[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we're kind of sort of
[0:07] Speaker 1: thinking football is a little back. There's eight teams practicing
[0:12] Speaker 1: on a football field on Monday, OTAs starting a couple
[0:16] Speaker 1: more teams starting later in this week, and you know
[0:21] Speaker 1: the week is back when we're finding out things we learned.
[0:24] Speaker 1: We got sixteen things we learned this week, Shook. That's
[0:27] Speaker 1: actually a few less things than last weekend when we
[0:29] Speaker 1: did this Monday show.
[0:30] Speaker 2: Nobody is better at finding things we learned at this
[0:34] Speaker 2: time of year than you, the SIKO himself, Greg Rosenthal.
[0:37] Speaker 1: Okay, I mean, I know you were busy celebrating the
[0:40] Speaker 1: Calves Game seven victory, but I'm out here in the streets.
[0:44] Speaker 1: And yeah, we got a lot of responses last week
[0:47] Speaker 1: that people like these offseason shows. Most people they kind
[0:49] Speaker 1: of want to tune out for football. So it's just
[0:51] Speaker 1: going to be a quick and dirty way to kind
[0:53] Speaker 1: of get up to speed on what's going on in
[0:55] Speaker 1: the NFL. We might do another show just like this
[0:58] Speaker 1: later this week, me and you, Shooky. But we had
[1:01] Speaker 1: some big news over the weekend. Not a surprise that
[1:04] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers is back with the Steelers, but he officially
[1:08] Speaker 1: signed with Pittsburgh in advance of their first OTA, so
[1:13] Speaker 1: the timing of it not a coincidence. There he is
[1:15] Speaker 1: on the field taking first team reps. More on that
[1:18] Speaker 1: in a second. I thought the finances were interesting. He
[1:21] Speaker 1: does get a pretty significant raise over what he had
[1:24] Speaker 1: last year. The base salaries about twenty two twenty three
[1:27] Speaker 1: million dollars. Incentives can go up to twenty five million dollars.
[1:33] Speaker 1: We have reached the end of the Aaron Rodgers Willier
[1:37] Speaker 1: won'ty section of the offseason. And that's again another reason
[1:40] Speaker 1: why you can indicate football is back.
[1:43] Speaker 2: This is what I now like to refer to as
[1:46] Speaker 2: our great long national perennial nightmare is over. Finally we
[1:51] Speaker 2: can stop spending weeks months asking Steelers ownership and you
[1:56] Speaker 2: know general manager Omar Khan and now Mike McCarthy the
[1:59] Speaker 2: new coach. Is Aaron Rodgers going to be there? What's
[2:02] Speaker 2: the timeline? Look like? We can stop filling some time
[2:05] Speaker 2: with is he gonna come back and play football? Or
[2:08] Speaker 2: is he done? It always felt like this was the case.
[2:10] Speaker 2: This is how they always planned it. They kind of
[2:12] Speaker 2: hedged against it a little bit by drafting Drew Aller,
[2:14] Speaker 2: which kind of creates a long gym now that Aaron
[2:16] Speaker 2: Rodgers is there that I'm sure we're going to get into.
[2:18] Speaker 2: But ultimately we get the solution that we needed so
[2:20] Speaker 2: that we could all move forward. I wouldn't call it closure.
[2:23] Speaker 2: I would say we finally checked the box. We buckled
[2:25] Speaker 2: our seatbelt. Now let's drive down the road already.
[2:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think it's a bad idea. I thought
[2:30] Speaker 1: it was a bad idea last year. He was a
[2:33] Speaker 1: little better a year ago than I expected. And that's
[2:36] Speaker 1: why I thought it was a bad idea, because even
[2:39] Speaker 1: though he was a little better, he was so limited.
[2:42] Speaker 1: Some stats for you shook and Steelers fans and especially
[2:46] Speaker 1: the guys who seemed to be closer to Rogers and
[2:48] Speaker 1: the Steelers media keep making the case that he's like
[2:51] Speaker 1: an average starting quarterbacker better, that he did a lot
[2:54] Speaker 1: of good things for them last year, and I'm like,
[2:57] Speaker 1: he just didn't want his career to end with a
[2:58] Speaker 1: pick six against the Texans. Here are some of his stats.
[3:01] Speaker 1: Thirty third in the league in average depth of target,
[3:03] Speaker 1: so just a limited menu of how he's going to
[3:06] Speaker 1: throw the ball, twenty third in the league in EPA
[3:08] Speaker 1: per play, twenty sixth in success rate, here's the one
[3:13] Speaker 1: that really stuck out to me. This was from Ben
[3:14] Speaker 1: Solac When pressured, his off target rate was the fourth
[3:20] Speaker 1: worst of any quarterback in any season in five years.
[3:25] Speaker 1: And those were the numbers that I really went to
[3:28] Speaker 1: when pressured. His EPA per play any other stat success
[3:31] Speaker 1: rate was down there with Flacco and cam Ward as
[3:35] Speaker 1: the worst two quarterbacks in the league. So do you
[3:38] Speaker 1: think ultimately that the Steelers are making a mistake by
[3:42] Speaker 1: making this their off season plan.
[3:45] Speaker 2: No, and it's because they backed themselves into this corner
[3:49] Speaker 2: and this was their only option. I thought that they
[3:52] Speaker 2: should have made a push for Malik Willis that obviously
[3:54] Speaker 2: didn't pan out. I thought that would be a better
[3:55] Speaker 2: long term play for them than going back to Aaron Rodgers.
[3:58] Speaker 2: But it felt like this was always going to be
[3:59] Speaker 2: what they were going to do. You and I understand
[4:02] Speaker 2: Kyler was out there. I don't think that there was
[4:05] Speaker 2: a real shot at that either. I think that the
[4:07] Speaker 2: Kyler Kevin O'Connell connection, that he was on a one
[4:10] Speaker 2: way track to Minnesota that happened really quickly too. I
[4:14] Speaker 2: understand why Steelers fans and maybe some of the beat
[4:17] Speaker 2: think that he was an average quarterback because their frame
[4:19] Speaker 2: of reference is not great. They had to deal with
[4:21] Speaker 2: Kenny Pickett, they had to deal with the Russell Wilson
[4:23] Speaker 2: and Justin Fields experience, and Rogers was better than all
[4:26] Speaker 2: of those guys, and he played well enough for me
[4:29] Speaker 2: to think he could probably do it one more time.
[4:31] Speaker 2: It's not that he's elevating them to some new level though,
[4:34] Speaker 2: He's just bringing them up to competence offensively. And the
[4:37] Speaker 2: bar was very low. So I understand why they looked
[4:39] Speaker 2: at this market. They looked at this draft class and
[4:42] Speaker 2: they thought, all right, well, let's run it back with
[4:43] Speaker 2: him one more year if there's mutual interest. Plus you
[4:45] Speaker 2: have the history with Mike McCarthy. Do I think it's
[4:47] Speaker 2: actually going to produce anything better than what they got
[4:48] Speaker 2: last year? No, I don't, and it's because of what
[4:50] Speaker 2: you just explained. You talk about how bad he was
[4:54] Speaker 2: when he was pressured. He never was pressured though, and
[4:57] Speaker 2: when he was pressured, it was only because there was
[4:59] Speaker 2: nobody open. He was doing the get the ball out
[5:02] Speaker 2: in like two point three seconds consistently. I was just
[5:04] Speaker 2: actually pulling up the next ten in stats because I
[5:06] Speaker 2: wanted to see time to throw. And I know he
[5:08] Speaker 2: was near the top of the league when he came
[5:11] Speaker 2: to shortest time to throw, and it's because that was
[5:13] Speaker 2: the way their entire offense was designed, which I think
[5:16] Speaker 2: if you look at last season, you probably feel, well,
[5:18] Speaker 2: they kind of underutilized DK Metcalfs save for that game
[5:21] Speaker 2: in Dublin, and that's because they never gave him time
[5:23] Speaker 2: to get down the field really unless it was third
[5:25] Speaker 2: and long, and they had to because they were such
[5:27] Speaker 2: a quick, get the ball out offense because they knew
[5:29] Speaker 2: he was limited in how he was able to navigate
[5:31] Speaker 2: the pocket like he used to do with the Packers.
[5:33] Speaker 2: So again, lower ceiling. But I understand given the circumstances
[5:37] Speaker 2: around this, why they do it. I just don't think
[5:39] Speaker 2: it's going to be any better than it was last year.
[5:41] Speaker 1: Here's the case for it. Obviously, he'd have to just
[5:43] Speaker 1: play better at what forty three years old, which is
[5:46] Speaker 1: hard to do. The offensive line could be pretty promising.
[5:51] Speaker 1: It's a young, improving offensive line. Max Ianachor might be
[5:55] Speaker 1: stepping in there at one of the tackle spots. You
[5:58] Speaker 1: have Fautanu Frasier in the middle. It's intriguing. Michael Pittman
[6:04] Speaker 1: is now your wide receiver two. That is a huge
[6:07] Speaker 1: upgrade on Calvin Austin or whoever they were throwing out
[6:11] Speaker 1: there last year. Jeremy Bernard. It's a rookie from Alabama
[6:15] Speaker 1: that you never know, but at least in terms of
[6:17] Speaker 1: his draft profile and what he does, seems like a
[6:20] Speaker 1: pretty good fit with the Aaron Rodgers, like a reliable,
[6:23] Speaker 1: going to be in the right spot, player that you
[6:27] Speaker 1: can throw to over the middle. So the other argument
[6:30] Speaker 1: would be the defense is just better, which kind of
[6:33] Speaker 1: gets me at my point about the Steelers, like I
[6:36] Speaker 1: almost see the win now vision. They just need a quarterback.
[6:39] Speaker 1: Like when Mike McCarthy was hired, I think he sold
[6:43] Speaker 1: them on like we can win with this team, and
[6:45] Speaker 1: if they actually, let's say, you put Jordan Love on
[6:49] Speaker 1: this team, just while I'm thinking of former Rogers teammates,
[6:52] Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, I could see that team making some
[6:55] Speaker 1: real noise, and the defense could be better and Mike
[6:59] Speaker 1: McCarthy could be a better offensive coach to help get
[7:02] Speaker 1: the most out of Aaron Rodgers. It's just wild to
[7:04] Speaker 1: me that it's twenty twenty six and we're doing Mike
[7:07] Speaker 1: McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers again, and the only man quoted
[7:12] Speaker 1: in the Pittsburgh press release about this was not Mike McCarthy,
[7:16] Speaker 1: was not Aaron Rodgers. It was a man by the
[7:18] Speaker 1: name of Tom Arth. Be familiar with Tom Arth.
[7:21] Speaker 2: I am very familiar with Tom Arthy. Tom Arth went
[7:24] Speaker 2: to Cleveland State, Nation's high school, played football at John
[7:26] Speaker 2: Carroll University, which is in University Heights, just outside of Cleveland,
[7:30] Speaker 2: and was the head coach of the University of Akron
[7:32] Speaker 2: for three years before he went to the NFL.
[7:34] Speaker 1: He was once on the roster with Aaron Rodgers, which
[7:38] Speaker 1: I don't remember. He was like the f I don't
[7:39] Speaker 1: remember that either, or I think he was in a
[7:42] Speaker 1: training camp or something like that. And so a former teammate,
[7:46] Speaker 1: we should have known this. You know, a former teammate
[7:48] Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers who I don't even think made the Packers.
[7:51] Speaker 1: He was like a practice squad or got cut type
[7:53] Speaker 1: of guy back with McCarthy. And that is the guy
[7:56] Speaker 1: who's given quotes about how great Rogers is going to be.
[7:59] Speaker 1: And yeah, I think they have a chance to be
[8:01] Speaker 1: competitive because I think if Rogers just plays about at
[8:04] Speaker 1: the level that he was a year ago, the defense
[8:06] Speaker 1: has a chance to be better. And I do think
[8:08] Speaker 1: McCarthy is actually an upgrade on Arthur Smith. So we'll
[8:12] Speaker 1: see someone's gonna be the odd man out. Though you
[8:14] Speaker 1: mentioned the quarterback situation, Will Howard was taking QB two reps.
[8:19] Speaker 1: This is how I know football's back. They were telling
[8:22] Speaker 1: me the order of the reps at Monday's otis. I
[8:25] Speaker 1: don't put anything into that, but Will Howard was two
[8:28] Speaker 1: and Mason Rudolph was three, and then Drew Aller of
[8:32] Speaker 1: the rookie was four.
[8:33] Speaker 2: Wow.
[8:34] Speaker 1: So actually that kind of maybe tells me a little
[8:36] Speaker 1: bit of something that Mason Rudolph is not long for
[8:40] Speaker 1: this roster. I just feel like he's probably the odd
[8:42] Speaker 1: man out.
[8:43] Speaker 2: I think it depends on who you talk to who
[8:45] Speaker 2: follows the Steelers closely, because there's I think a split
[8:48] Speaker 2: in that group right now between Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.
[8:51] Speaker 2: Because you think about if it's a win now approach,
[8:54] Speaker 2: then you won a veteran like Mason Rudolf behind Aaron
[8:57] Speaker 2: Rodgers in case of emergency. You don't want to have to
[8:59] Speaker 2: lean on a sixth round pick who didn't see the
[9:01] Speaker 2: field last year or a rookie third round pick as
[9:03] Speaker 2: your backups to Aaron Rodgers. But I also believe that
[9:07] Speaker 2: the Steelers are also looking at this in the longer
[9:09] Speaker 2: term picture because they have their stop gap at quarterback
[9:12] Speaker 2: in Rodgers. They understand this is the best that they
[9:14] Speaker 2: could do. But they talked very highly about Will Howard
[9:17] Speaker 2: and they really pumped him up, and I didn't buy it,
[9:19] Speaker 2: and drafting Drew Aler tells me that maybe it was
[9:22] Speaker 2: kind of a little bit of smoke. But I think
[9:25] Speaker 2: that when they look at their franchise planning, they would
[9:27] Speaker 2: like to have both of those options to develop, especially
[9:30] Speaker 2: under McCarthy, as opposed to keeping Mason Rudolph. So as
[9:33] Speaker 2: it stands right now, if I had to lean in
[9:35] Speaker 2: one direction, I would say they're going to try to
[9:37] Speaker 2: find a trade partner for Mason Rudolph at one point
[9:40] Speaker 2: this summer, unless Will Howard is just terrible in camp
[9:43] Speaker 2: because Aler's not going anywhere. By the way, Also, I
[9:45] Speaker 2: looked it up real quick. Rogers last year time to
[9:48] Speaker 2: throw the fastest of any quarterback with two hundred and
[9:51] Speaker 2: more dropbacks two point five nine seconds. That was their
[9:54] Speaker 2: shortened offense right there. So maybe with the improved offensive
[9:57] Speaker 2: line they could be a little bit longer. But I
[9:58] Speaker 2: think they're still limited.
[10:00] Speaker 1: And the reason why his numbers were so bad when pressured,
[10:03] Speaker 1: because for the most part, he just wasn't even trying
[10:05] Speaker 1: just throwing them all away. I mean, he would kind
[10:07] Speaker 1: of throw it somewhat near someone occasionally, and there were
[10:11] Speaker 1: times when he would try to make plays, and that
[10:14] Speaker 1: was where he kind of had the oh, I'm older,
[10:19] Speaker 1: and then he kind of just stopped even trying. And
[10:22] Speaker 1: so there's a route to this team being competitive and
[10:26] Speaker 1: being interesting. It's it's just a smaller route than you want.
[10:30] Speaker 1: Mason Rudolfs to about three million dollars this year. I
[10:33] Speaker 1: could see them putting him on the practice squad and
[10:37] Speaker 1: seeing if anyone doesn't take them, and then they can
[10:39] Speaker 1: just keep four quarterbacks that way. It wouldn't surprise me,
[10:43] Speaker 1: all right. So that was our second point, just that
[10:44] Speaker 1: someone would be the odd man out. That's one thing
[10:47] Speaker 1: we learned. And I kind of mentioned our first point
[10:50] Speaker 1: at top. It was just a larger global league point
[10:53] Speaker 1: for people wondering where we are in the schedule. Like
[10:56] Speaker 1: I mentioned, ten teams doing OTAs this week. Eight are
[10:58] Speaker 1: starting on Monday. We're gonna have some more action. I
[11:01] Speaker 1: have some more quotes. Basically the next five weeks is
[11:05] Speaker 1: OTA season. Almost all the teams will be back by
[11:09] Speaker 1: next week, and so that that's just where we're at.
[11:12] Speaker 1: And I just wanted to get your thoughts of the
[11:14] Speaker 1: fact that Kid Cuddy is at the Bengals OTAs today,
[11:18] Speaker 1: God of all days to show up first day of
[11:21] Speaker 1: OTA's Kid Cutty. I don't know why. Maybe he's a
[11:23] Speaker 1: Kid Cuddy.
[11:23] Speaker 2: He's notably a Shaker Heights resident or not resident, but
[11:27] Speaker 2: a native. That's a neighborhood just outside of Cleveland, a
[11:30] Speaker 2: very diverse neighborhood. He's proud of that. He talks about
[11:33] Speaker 2: the land all the time. And then he decides to
[11:35] Speaker 2: go to Bengals Ota in a Bengals jersey, which makes
[11:37] Speaker 2: no sense. So I looked up his tour, thinking, well,
[11:39] Speaker 2: maybe he's playing a show in Cincinnati. It's crossed from sure.
[11:42] Speaker 2: Now his next show is in Saint Louis tomorrow. This
[11:46] Speaker 2: makes no sense. I don't know why he's.
[11:48] Speaker 1: There, and he's wearing an eighty four jersey. Yeah, okay,
[11:55] Speaker 1: eighty four.
[11:56] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[11:57] Speaker 1: I can't even recognize guys the name on the back.
[12:01] Speaker 1: It makes no sense to me. I should have done
[12:03] Speaker 1: a little more research. There, but eighty four, I don't know.
[12:07] Speaker 2: Eighty four as Jack injuries tight end from Texas a rookie.
[12:11] Speaker 1: Oh you know, Oh it's Huschman Zada of course.
[12:13] Speaker 2: Okay, it's a new Hushman's addres. They didn't wear that
[12:15] Speaker 2: style of Jers.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's an old school Housh jersey. So we're back
[12:20] Speaker 1: and like I mentioned, the Steelers are practicing our fourth
[12:25] Speaker 1: nugget that we learned just with that Broderick Jones who's
[12:27] Speaker 1: had these neck back injuries that could potentially sideline him
[12:32] Speaker 1: going into the season. He's not doing everything at their OTAs,
[12:35] Speaker 1: but he's out there doing little warm ups and moving around.
[12:38] Speaker 1: So that's a good sign for Broderick Jones. For now
[12:40] Speaker 1: Ianachar who is their first round pick. They have him
[12:43] Speaker 1: on the third team. But that's a battle we'll be
[12:45] Speaker 1: talking about a little more as we get to train.
[12:47] Speaker 2: And a position changed because you know, he spent his
[12:50] Speaker 2: entire career at Arizona State on the right side and
[12:52] Speaker 2: Jones's left tackle. So something demon that's actually very intriguing
[12:55] Speaker 2: in OTAs.
[12:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll see, we'll see where he ends up
[12:59] Speaker 1: landing Keisha on booty not at Patriots workouts over the
[13:04] Speaker 1: last few weeks. That was according to Mike Reese of ESPN,
[13:08] Speaker 1: who just noted that all the Patriots receivers have been
[13:10] Speaker 1: there helping Romeo Dobs get up to you know, up
[13:13] Speaker 1: to speed. They're not even you know, they're just about
[13:15] Speaker 1: to get onto the field. But they're not even on
[13:17] Speaker 1: the field. They're just lifting weights. Normally, I wouldn't bother
[13:19] Speaker 1: to mention this, but the fact that Kaishon Boody is
[13:22] Speaker 1: the only receiver not there, it does have me wondering
[13:25] Speaker 1: if he's in this AJ Brown trade. I'm gonna put
[13:28] Speaker 1: you on the spot. What do you think the aj
[13:31] Speaker 1: Brown trade terms are now? I mean, it could be
[13:34] Speaker 1: because Kishon Boody wants a new contract. It could just
[13:36] Speaker 1: be because he wants to participate elsewhere. But I'm I'm
[13:39] Speaker 1: not usually a conspiracy theorist, shook. I wouldn't be surprised
[13:42] Speaker 1: if they told him like, hey man, you know, if
[13:47] Speaker 1: you don't want to come, you don't have to come.
[13:49] Speaker 2: Kind of work out on your own because we're gonna
[13:52] Speaker 2: trade you on June first.
[13:54] Speaker 1: He want, you know, like they just gave him the
[13:56] Speaker 1: score and then he was like okay, I'm not gonna come.
[13:59] Speaker 2: So this is a weird trade because I think if
[14:02] Speaker 2: there was some sort of like time element to it,
[14:06] Speaker 2: like an urgency, that I think the Eagles would probably
[14:09] Speaker 2: get more for it in an AJ Brown trade to
[14:11] Speaker 2: the Patriots. And yet I feel like this has been
[14:14] Speaker 2: so drawn out that they probably lose a little bit
[14:17] Speaker 2: of leverage. Still I would I mean, if it's me,
[14:19] Speaker 2: I'm giving up a first rounder. I don't know if
[14:21] Speaker 2: they get a first rounder for him. And if you
[14:23] Speaker 2: were to consider throwing Booty into a trade there, which
[14:26] Speaker 2: the Eagles really don't have all that much room in
[14:27] Speaker 2: the receiver room after what they've done this offseason, but
[14:30] Speaker 2: use him they would like to take him, of course,
[14:32] Speaker 2: then I think that that pick drops to a second
[14:34] Speaker 2: rounder or something like that. I mean, a J. Brown
[14:36] Speaker 2: is still a highly valuable receiver. It's just that he
[14:38] Speaker 2: and the Eagles can't work things out. So I'm going
[14:41] Speaker 2: to eliminate a first rounder from the discussion, and it's
[14:45] Speaker 2: going to disappoint me. And I don't know though, how
[14:47] Speaker 2: he's involved. This is tough. This is tough because I
[14:49] Speaker 2: feel like how he would extract maximum value when you
[14:51] Speaker 2: would get a first rounder we're in that range.
[14:55] Speaker 1: I think it's a twenty twenty eight first rounder. You
[15:00] Speaker 1: have to wait for the future and Booty going on
[15:04] Speaker 1: because like Booty's in a contract year, I think him
[15:07] Speaker 1: and Brown are a little duplicative as ball winners. He's
[15:11] Speaker 1: a good player. He's never put up like monster stats
[15:13] Speaker 1: in a season, but I think he's better than the
[15:16] Speaker 1: numbers indicate. At the end of last season, me and
[15:19] Speaker 1: Ali Connolly had him on our kind of all underrated
[15:22] Speaker 1: type of team or just like hitting gems like. He's
[15:25] Speaker 1: a good player, and which is why I think the
[15:27] Speaker 1: Eagles could absolutely use him. Yes, they have Mackay Lemon
[15:31] Speaker 1: and Dantavian Wicks and Hollywood Brown behind Devonte Smith. None
[15:35] Speaker 1: of those guys are really you know, sideline X kind
[15:39] Speaker 1: of one on one winners, good red zone guy, and
[15:42] Speaker 1: so Booty I think, who makes a lot of contested catches,
[15:46] Speaker 1: could could fill a nice role for them. By the way,
[15:50] Speaker 1: the A. J. Brown Beck when he was traded to
[15:52] Speaker 1: the Eagles, it was for the eighteenth and the one
[15:54] Speaker 1: hundred and first pick. Remember they took Treylon Burks for
[15:59] Speaker 1: that eighteenth pick, but that was like for the current draft.
[16:03] Speaker 1: So I think just kicking it out into the future.
[16:05] Speaker 1: I'm guessing how he gets that first It's twenty twenty
[16:08] Speaker 1: eight plus just a little extra for Kashan Boody, and.
[16:11] Speaker 2: Like an extra year, it increases the likelihood of getting
[16:14] Speaker 2: a first round pick.
[16:14] Speaker 1: So I like that number six on our list things
[16:18] Speaker 1: we learned. Jason Light spoke to the media and that's
[16:22] Speaker 1: the Bucks GM and talked about their running back situation
[16:26] Speaker 1: and said that Bucky Irving will be quote the chair
[16:31] Speaker 1: of the Buccaneers running back committee, which also includes Kenny
[16:36] Speaker 1: Gainwell and Sean Tucker, something I don't think I've talked
[16:39] Speaker 1: about on the show. I'm curious if you had any thoughts, Like,
[16:42] Speaker 1: Bucky Irving had a bad year last year. His numbers
[16:45] Speaker 1: were just not as effective on a per snap basis,
[16:48] Speaker 1: success rate, yards per carry, Azrashad White or Shan Tucker
[16:52] Speaker 1: actually in that backfield. So what do you think about
[16:55] Speaker 1: the Buccaneers backfield Irving, gain Well, in Tucker.
[17:01] Speaker 2: This is also a Buccaneers offense that relied heavily on
[17:03] Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield early in the season for explosives and then
[17:05] Speaker 2: once that fell off a cliff, they just had nowhere
[17:07] Speaker 2: to go. They finished twenty first in total yards and
[17:09] Speaker 2: twenty first and rushing, So like that doesn't surprise me
[17:11] Speaker 2: that Bucky was part of that. Bucky was also kind
[17:12] Speaker 2: of dinged up at times, right, so it's difficult to
[17:16] Speaker 2: really distill exactly what last season meant for him. But
[17:19] Speaker 2: I think he's earned the chair. I like the use
[17:21] Speaker 2: of the chair of the committee. We talk about backfield
[17:24] Speaker 2: committees all the time, not often that we have somebody
[17:26] Speaker 2: anointed with the chair. So congrats, it's not thrown, it's
[17:30] Speaker 2: a chair. Bucky Irving gets the chair. I also like
[17:32] Speaker 2: this backfield for the addition of Kenny game Well. We
[17:35] Speaker 2: both love Kenny gain Well. We love what he did
[17:36] Speaker 2: for the Steelers last year, especially even as a pass catch,
[17:39] Speaker 2: which I think is a very underrated element in his game.
[17:41] Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of Sean Tucker. He's been of a throwback.
[17:44] Speaker 2: He's a hard runner, and I like the diversity of
[17:47] Speaker 2: this backfield. But it's got to start with Bucky.
[17:48] Speaker 1: Irving making a sneaky amount of money Sean Tucker because
[17:53] Speaker 1: if you remember, there was interest in him as a
[17:55] Speaker 1: restricted free agent elsewhere, believe with Seattle, and so he
[18:00] Speaker 1: ends up getting three point five million dollars and they
[18:03] Speaker 1: decided to pay that up. He had seven touchdowns a
[18:06] Speaker 1: year ago, and so he's going to be used in
[18:09] Speaker 1: short yardage. To me, that's a fantasy stay away type
[18:12] Speaker 1: of situation. But I go to the money and I
[18:15] Speaker 1: go to what I saw on the field. Kenny Gainwell
[18:17] Speaker 1: was a better player than Bucky Irving last year. Bucky
[18:19] Speaker 1: was such a creative, exciting rookie player. I think he
[18:23] Speaker 1: can get it back, but it seemed like he was
[18:25] Speaker 1: just like looking for big plays and you know, Todd
[18:28] Speaker 1: Bowles and then the offense that they're running, they might
[18:31] Speaker 1: be looking for someone who's a little more consistent, and
[18:33] Speaker 1: that to me is Gainwell and Tucker. So I would
[18:36] Speaker 1: be selling my Bucky Irving as the chair of the committee.
[18:39] Speaker 1: Stock are definitely selling, but getting him in fantasy.
[18:42] Speaker 2: Sells fantasy stock definitely.
[18:43] Speaker 1: Yeah. Also in that division, Bryce Young got his fifth
[18:48] Speaker 1: year option picked up the fifth year, not this year.
[18:50] Speaker 1: It's it's not until twenty twenty seven. Joseph Person of
[18:53] Speaker 1: the Athletic said more clearly and confirmed what I expected,
[18:58] Speaker 1: but that we haven't heard from the team, which is
[19:00] Speaker 1: that do not expect a Bryce Young extension this offseason.
[19:06] Speaker 1: That he doesn't think the Panthers are going to seriously
[19:09] Speaker 1: consider or negotiate with Bryce. What do you think about
[19:13] Speaker 1: Bryce Young kind of getting set up for a prove
[19:16] Speaker 1: it twenty twenty sixth season in terms of a long
[19:19] Speaker 1: term contract.
[19:21] Speaker 2: I think this is exactly where he is on his
[19:23] Speaker 2: career path. We're still not that far removed from him
[19:26] Speaker 2: getting benched and then reclaiming his role. Last year, he
[19:29] Speaker 2: was just very up and down. It's just dependent on
[19:31] Speaker 2: the week whether you got the Bryce Young that would
[19:32] Speaker 2: throw for four hundred in an overtime win over the
[19:34] Speaker 2: Falcons or the Bryce Young who couldn't crack two hundred
[19:36] Speaker 2: the next week or the week prior. Like, it's just
[19:38] Speaker 2: it's too inconsistent, and I think that before they're going
[19:41] Speaker 2: to commit any sort of long term money outside of
[19:43] Speaker 2: the rookie deal, and you have that fifth year option
[19:44] Speaker 2: at your disposal, they just need to see more. So
[19:46] Speaker 2: this is absolutely approval year for him. The fifth year
[19:49] Speaker 2: option was always going to be picked up and I
[19:51] Speaker 2: and no extension expected before the season. I wouldn't be
[19:54] Speaker 2: surprised if they didn't do one at all this year
[19:55] Speaker 2: and just let him figure out now and then attack
[19:57] Speaker 2: it next year.
[19:58] Speaker 1: I think the only way he gets one this year
[20:01] Speaker 1: is if he is playing at a Pro Bowl or
[20:05] Speaker 1: top ten to twelve quarternecks level, pretty big jump, yeah,
[20:08] Speaker 1: which is a which is possible, and then he gets
[20:11] Speaker 1: it sometime in November or anything. You know. The awkward
[20:14] Speaker 1: situation is if it doesn't work out and then he's
[20:17] Speaker 1: making twenty five million dollars, which is the bottom end
[20:21] Speaker 1: of starting quarterback money. Is what Aaron Rodgers is making essentially,
[20:26] Speaker 1: but they're like starting to kind of look at other
[20:28] Speaker 1: options next offseason. By the way, people that said that,
[20:31] Speaker 1: like Aaron Rodgers is making too much money like that,
[20:34] Speaker 1: that's the one part of that deal I have no
[20:36] Speaker 1: problem with. I think he actually went out of his way.
[20:38] Speaker 1: I want to see them number to get just over
[20:42] Speaker 1: Malik Willis in terms of average salary, so that he
[20:46] Speaker 1: is not the lowest paid veteran starting quarterback for Week one,
[20:51] Speaker 1: I guess you got to include Jacoby Brissett or Gardener Minshew.
[20:54] Speaker 1: We don't know who's they're going to be. But other
[20:55] Speaker 1: than that, if you're talking about guys on veteran contracts,
[20:58] Speaker 1: the two lowest paid starting Week one quarterbacks are actually
[21:01] Speaker 1: Malik Willis and Aaron Rodgers, and they're pretty far below
[21:04] Speaker 1: number three on that list, which is like Baker or
[21:07] Speaker 1: something waits.
[21:08] Speaker 2: What's Rogers annual value?
[21:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, now it's like twenty two and a half twenty three.
[21:13] Speaker 2: R Bakers thirty three, which that contract looks great now,
[21:16] Speaker 2: by the way.
[21:17] Speaker 1: And he might get a contract this offseason. We will see,
[21:19] Speaker 1: all right. So that's our seventh point eight through ten
[21:23] Speaker 1: are some owners meeting points. It's kind of a lighter
[21:26] Speaker 1: owners meetings this week. It includes voting on international games.
[21:31] Speaker 1: The owners are going to vote to expand the maximum
[21:35] Speaker 1: amount of international games up to eleven. This year it
[21:39] Speaker 1: was eight plus one, includes the Jaguars Wembley game, which
[21:43] Speaker 1: I didn't even realize. The Jaguars just run that themselves.
[21:46] Speaker 1: It's not technically like run by the NFL as an
[21:48] Speaker 1: international game. So it's eight plus one, and they're voting
[21:52] Speaker 1: to make it ten plus one. By the way, next year,
[21:56] Speaker 1: the Jaguars might be playing three home games in London.
[22:00] Speaker 1: Actually expect that to happen because they're going to be
[22:02] Speaker 1: moving stadiums and so that'll just be a weird wrinkle
[22:06] Speaker 1: of the season. And so eleven international games next year. Potentially,
[22:12] Speaker 1: and I assume they would vote for that. They're also
[22:15] Speaker 1: voting to make Nashville the host of the twenty thirty
[22:19] Speaker 1: Super Bowl shook. What do you think about Nashville getting
[22:23] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl potentially?
[22:24] Speaker 2: I think it's interesting to designate in a not yet
[22:27] Speaker 2: completed stadium as a super as a host site of
[22:30] Speaker 2: a Super Bowl game like in the future, because we
[22:34] Speaker 2: did run into problems with this with so far and
[22:35] Speaker 2: they're delayed construction by year, which is how Tampa got
[22:37] Speaker 2: back into the rotation because it was too rainy in
[22:40] Speaker 2: LA that year, which is hilarious because it's how often
[22:43] Speaker 2: is it ever rainy in LA? But based on the
[22:45] Speaker 2: renderings and the projections and everything else, for Nashville, which
[22:47] Speaker 2: is the city that is exploding with growth, it makes
[22:50] Speaker 2: all the sense in the world. Do you build a
[22:51] Speaker 2: new stadium, build a state of the art dome where
[22:53] Speaker 2: you're not worried about the weather, Come on, get a
[22:55] Speaker 2: Super Bowl. That's people here in Cleveland. They broke ground
[22:57] Speaker 2: on the Browns new stadium and they're like, we're going
[22:59] Speaker 2: to get Super Bowl and I'm like, you need more
[23:01] Speaker 2: hotels first. So Nashville's already got that part covered.
[23:04] Speaker 1: Also it's cold, well, they could give it to them once.
[23:07] Speaker 1: I guess, you know, if it's everybody gets one, right,
[23:10] Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if Buffalo is going
[23:11] Speaker 1: to get one. I don't I don't think Buffalo.
[23:13] Speaker 2: Is going to get one.
[23:14] Speaker 1: But yeah, in Nashville, that gives us a new goal.
[23:16] Speaker 1: You know. Initially, when I first started working at Pro
[23:18] Speaker 1: Football talknbcsports dot Com, it was my goal to get
[23:22] Speaker 1: to the twenty twelve Super Bowl, stay in the business,
[23:25] Speaker 1: keep my job long enough to get to go to
[23:29] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl in New Orleans where I went to school,
[23:32] Speaker 1: like get and then it was kind of like like
[23:35] Speaker 1: Sean McVay felt after winning the Super Bowls, like, oh, well,
[23:38] Speaker 1: now what do I do? It's like I've already achieved
[23:41] Speaker 1: my greatest my greatest goal. And then we got back
[23:43] Speaker 1: to New Orleans. So maybe now our new goal shook
[23:45] Speaker 1: me and you NFL Daily twenty thirty Nashville. I've never
[23:48] Speaker 1: been in Nashville.
[23:49] Speaker 2: Okay, I can get down with that. And you know,
[23:52] Speaker 2: we talked about the International Games. I feel like we're
[23:54] Speaker 2: going to expand that schedule out further to the point
[23:57] Speaker 2: where like every team's going to get an international game
[23:58] Speaker 2: before long and your target date on national is twenty thirty.
[24:02] Speaker 2: The target date on what's the type, is it not
[24:05] Speaker 2: supersonic or whatever it is? The flight you know, the concord,
[24:08] Speaker 2: Remember that old plane that they stopped running. The target
[24:11] Speaker 2: for those to be reintroduced into commercial flight is twenty
[24:13] Speaker 2: twenty nine. So we get a lot of goals for
[24:15] Speaker 2: the end of this decade because if that's introduced, then
[24:17] Speaker 2: it makes the International Games a lot more feasible.
[24:19] Speaker 1: Yes, I might be making a campaign onto Munich this year,
[24:24] Speaker 1: might be pushing for a Munich thing, and yeah, it
[24:26] Speaker 1: would be great if you could make that. Like I
[24:29] Speaker 1: like a trip to Veg Okay, I've been love never
[24:32] Speaker 1: been to Germany.
[24:33] Speaker 2: Great great city.
[24:33] Speaker 1: We'll see, we'll see. But yeah, they're going to keep
[24:36] Speaker 1: expanding though, and and I'm always surprised by the people.
[24:39] Speaker 1: It's like, you know, JJ Watt is like, well, we've
[24:41] Speaker 1: turned this into you know, instead of like just an
[24:44] Speaker 1: occasional you know trip overseas, now it's like a traveling circus.
[24:48] Speaker 1: It's like it's like nine games out of two seventy
[24:52] Speaker 1: and you're just watching everything on TV, like Spread the Love.
[24:55] Speaker 1: It's it's not that big. We have enough football. It's
[24:58] Speaker 1: it's not that big of a deal.
[24:59] Speaker 2: Nobody, nobody hates change more than old football guys.
[25:04] Speaker 1: Fine, it's fine. It's like a tiny fraction. Just just
[25:09] Speaker 1: let them have some fun. By the way, we did
[25:10] Speaker 1: the schedule last week the release. One thing I didn't know,
[25:16] Speaker 1: which I wish I had when I said how the
[25:19] Speaker 1: Saints and the Falcons had a primetime game in Week four,
[25:23] Speaker 1: which caught my eye, I thought it was like surprising.
[25:26] Speaker 1: I did say, Okay, well the Falcons got one. That's cool.
[25:28] Speaker 1: It's the only Saints primetime game that is close to
[25:33] Speaker 1: the twentieth anniversary of the Steve Gleason game, which the
[25:37] Speaker 1: Falcons did not want to be a part of. They
[25:39] Speaker 1: did not want this to be in Monday Night Football.
[25:41] Speaker 1: They you know, because they're essentially like the opponent for
[25:44] Speaker 1: the Harlem Globetrotters on that night. But I tell you
[25:48] Speaker 1: this Falcons chance for a little revenge. But very cool
[25:52] Speaker 1: that Roger Goodell reportedly kind of, you know, stood on
[25:57] Speaker 1: the table and said, like we're doing this game. I
[25:59] Speaker 1: don't care ESPN or whoever what you want, Like, we're
[26:03] Speaker 1: going to do this game around the anniversary of the
[26:05] Speaker 1: Steve Gleason moment, which was maybe the best moment of
[26:07] Speaker 1: Paul Tagliview's run because he helped keep that team in
[26:11] Speaker 1: New Orleans, maybe even more than the owner Tom Benson.
[26:14] Speaker 1: So very cool that they're doing a memory kind of
[26:17] Speaker 1: of that game, and I'm sure they're going to blow
[26:20] Speaker 1: it out and Steve Gleason will be there and that'll
[26:22] Speaker 1: be a really cool night.
[26:23] Speaker 2: Yeah. The one thing that I think among the many
[26:26] Speaker 2: things that the NFL has been very good at over
[26:27] Speaker 2: the last ten years in terms of growth is capitalizing
[26:31] Speaker 2: on anniversaries and holidays and really like blowing it out
[26:36] Speaker 2: and making it a spectacle and not avoiding it or
[26:38] Speaker 2: just having it as like a tertiary detail, but like
[26:40] Speaker 2: that is the focus of it. Like we're playing a
[26:42] Speaker 2: football game and it's on this date, and it's important
[26:45] Speaker 2: because of this, and we're going to run headfirst into
[26:47] Speaker 2: it and really expand it and you know, popularize it.
[26:50] Speaker 2: And they're great at the league is great at ten
[26:52] Speaker 2: pole events, They're great at doing everything like that. The
[26:54] Speaker 2: spectacle has never been bigger than it is right now
[26:57] Speaker 2: in this league.
[26:59] Speaker 1: And that, of course was the first game for the
[27:02] Speaker 1: Saints at home after Hurricane Katrina, which was a Monday
[27:06] Speaker 1: night football game, and I believe it was a Tariko
[27:10] Speaker 1: on the call for ESPN back then, and very cool.
[27:15] Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to that. So those were points eight
[27:18] Speaker 1: through ten, just some allotted stuff. And then while we're
[27:21] Speaker 1: talking Saints, I'm going to move a couple of my
[27:24] Speaker 1: Saints ones up in the order and we're going eleven
[27:27] Speaker 1: and twelve for some Mickey Loomis Kellen Moore talk from Monday.
[27:30] Speaker 1: They're back on the field and they answered some questions.
[27:34] Speaker 1: Number one non committal about Alvin Kamara, but said something
[27:38] Speaker 1: is coming soon. June first is an important date there.
[27:43] Speaker 1: My guess is that they're cutting Alvin Kamara. Kellen Moore said,
[27:46] Speaker 1: we're getting close to an answer when it comes to
[27:49] Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right, but June
[27:53] Speaker 1: first is a date where they would more easily be
[27:56] Speaker 1: able to cut him. They changed this contract up little bit,
[28:00] Speaker 1: so just something to watch there. Also, Mickey Loomis said
[28:03] Speaker 1: there is an out offer out to Cam Jordan. They
[28:05] Speaker 1: are interested in him coming back. Cam Jordan's made it
[28:08] Speaker 1: clear that he's not happy with what they are offering,
[28:12] Speaker 1: and he remains unsigned and Taysom Hill there is no
[28:14] Speaker 1: offer out to him. I think Taysom hills career is
[28:17] Speaker 1: probably over and so that just a lot of changes
[28:20] Speaker 1: coming with the Saints. Those are three guys that have
[28:22] Speaker 1: been there a long time. We'll see about Kamara, but
[28:25] Speaker 1: one thing that might not be changing. This would be
[28:27] Speaker 1: my next point would be Loomis said that they want
[28:30] Speaker 1: a contract done with Chris o'lava quote sooner than later.
[28:34] Speaker 1: When just when they say that, that's a really good
[28:36] Speaker 1: sign that actually something could get done and a Lave
[28:39] Speaker 1: is in the building, participating in all the off season activities,
[28:44] Speaker 1: So what do you think about, like giving o lave
[28:46] Speaker 1: a big long term money after the injuries, the concussions
[28:50] Speaker 1: and everything he's gone through as a same.
[28:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's mostly been concussions, which is just really unfortunate.
[28:55] Speaker 2: And you also know that with concussions your career timeline
[28:59] Speaker 2: is usually a little bit shortened because you know the
[29:01] Speaker 2: risk of the next one could be the one that
[29:03] Speaker 2: you're like, all right, I'm done. So it's interesting that
[29:05] Speaker 2: they would offer or at least consider such a contract
[29:08] Speaker 2: with him. But when he's healthy, he's an excellent player,
[29:09] Speaker 2: He's been an excellent player since he was at Ohio State.
[29:11] Speaker 2: I thought he was neck and neck with Garrett Wilson
[29:13] Speaker 2: coming out of Ohio State. And he just hasn't been
[29:14] Speaker 2: able to stay on the field consistently, especially in twenty
[29:16] Speaker 2: twenty four. I mean when he's played you know, fifteen
[29:19] Speaker 2: sixteen games, he's broken a thousand receiving yards every year.
[29:22] Speaker 2: And that's with you know, the constant turnover at quarterback
[29:24] Speaker 2: in the post Drew Brees era with the Saints. And
[29:26] Speaker 2: it's funny because all these things are connected with this team.
[29:29] Speaker 2: You know, this is a Saints team that for the
[29:31] Speaker 2: longest time as a franchise, they were hanging on to
[29:34] Speaker 2: being competitive with Drew Brees and Sean Payton and they
[29:37] Speaker 2: finally had to let it go. And now they're under
[29:40] Speaker 2: this you know, new leadership. Still same GM with Mickey Loomis,
[29:43] Speaker 2: you know, made of teflon going to be there forever.
[29:45] Speaker 2: But Kellen Moore, the coach, has kind of invigorated this
[29:48] Speaker 2: group and Tyler Schuck has a lot to do with that.
[29:50] Speaker 2: So it makes sense to you know, secure the players
[29:54] Speaker 2: around Tyler Shuck, Guys like Chris Olave. You spend a
[29:57] Speaker 2: risky first round pick on Jordan Tyson. But if everything
[30:00] Speaker 2: he goes right, you got two really good receivers in
[30:02] Speaker 2: that room and you continue to work towards your ultimate goals.
[30:04] Speaker 2: So it makes sense. But I just hope that Olave
[30:08] Speaker 2: can find a way to stay available more often than
[30:10] Speaker 2: he's been able to. I mean for the most of
[30:12] Speaker 2: his career. He still played double digits and three of
[30:14] Speaker 2: his four seasons, but it just feels like he's missed
[30:16] Speaker 2: a lot of time.
[30:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, he said it took about a while to get
[30:18] Speaker 1: over that concussion, but that helps to explain why his
[30:21] Speaker 1: numbers were way better with Shock. He had three one
[30:24] Speaker 1: hundred yard games last season. They're all with Shock. He
[30:26] Speaker 1: had one hundred and fifty six targets, but they were
[30:28] Speaker 1: a great combination and kind of seeing proof of concept there.
[30:32] Speaker 1: I think is going to help o'lave and get paid.
[30:34] Speaker 1: And yeah, like I mentioned, if he's there, he's feeling
[30:36] Speaker 1: good about that. A favorite son of New Orleans, Eli Manning,
[30:41] Speaker 1: went out of podcast. We're going back to the Eli
[30:44] Speaker 1: Manning draft. That's when you know, maybe we're not learning
[30:46] Speaker 1: as many things about the current teams. But I found
[30:49] Speaker 1: this interesting shook that he said, and this was as
[30:54] Speaker 1: honest as he's ever been about this, that it was
[30:57] Speaker 1: really him that essentially chose not to go to the
[31:00] Speaker 1: Chargers back in his draft of two thousand and four,
[31:05] Speaker 1: not Archie. Archie got totally blamed for it, as like
[31:09] Speaker 1: the father who was just steering his kind of quiet
[31:12] Speaker 1: son away from that situation. And Eli Manning talked about
[31:17] Speaker 1: a weird dinner with the Chargers where it seemed like
[31:22] Speaker 1: the GM AJ Smith at the time and Marty Schottenheimer
[31:25] Speaker 1: were like fighting at the dinner and they ate at
[31:28] Speaker 1: a restaurant in the Marriott in New Orleans, and part
[31:32] Speaker 1: of the reason they were fighting was Schottenheimer being like,
[31:35] Speaker 1: We're in New Orleans and we're eating at a restaurant
[31:37] Speaker 1: in the Marriott Hotel and him and AJ Smith are bickering,
[31:41] Speaker 1: and he and Eli just got the vibe and he
[31:44] Speaker 1: was right that there wasn't a lot of synchronicity between
[31:47] Speaker 1: ownership GM and the coach and they did hate each
[31:50] Speaker 1: other back back then, and Schottenheimer got fired after they
[31:53] Speaker 1: had like a one seed and so he said, Eli
[31:56] Speaker 1: Manning was really the one that wanted no part of
[31:59] Speaker 1: the San Diego Chargers, and like a good dad. I
[32:04] Speaker 1: respect Archie Manning who decided to kind of take the
[32:07] Speaker 1: public hits to you know, really reduce the negativity on
[32:12] Speaker 1: Eli Manning. And it was pretty significant back then of
[32:14] Speaker 1: like who does this kid think he is? He got
[32:17] Speaker 1: his way to the Giants. I think everyone ended up happy.
[32:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Philip Rivers ends up with the Chargers.
[32:21] Speaker 2: I think that season Schottenheimer got fired. They went fourteen
[32:24] Speaker 2: to two, but they just couldn't get over the hump
[32:27] Speaker 2: to the super Bowl because they kept running into you know,
[32:29] Speaker 2: the Patriots, And yeah, it all worked out for everybody.
[32:32] Speaker 2: Eli's got a couple of rings. Rivers, you know, had
[32:34] Speaker 2: a great career and you know, Eli is a favorite
[32:37] Speaker 2: son in New York as well for his time with
[32:38] Speaker 2: the Giants, who loved him so much that they tried
[32:41] Speaker 2: to draft his carbon copy clone and Daniel Jones to
[32:44] Speaker 2: replace him.
[32:46] Speaker 1: That was unbusting with the boys, by the way the podcast,
[32:48] Speaker 1: I wanted to give them credit. True, Yeah, getting a
[32:52] Speaker 1: little bit of a getting a little bit of a
[32:54] Speaker 1: scoop there. I was thinking back, like it worked out
[32:57] Speaker 1: for everyone. The only exception Philip Rivers would totally disagree.
[33:04] Speaker 1: He was so good, like he could have won some
[33:06] Speaker 1: Super Bowls with the Giants. I know the Chargers team
[33:08] Speaker 1: was actually more Chargers team the funny The funny thing
[33:12] Speaker 1: is the Chargers team was pretty loaded in the in
[33:15] Speaker 1: the long run and won a lot with the Chargers,
[33:18] Speaker 1: but the ownership coach GM all the dynamics ELI was
[33:22] Speaker 1: right about. I think if you had put Rivers with
[33:25] Speaker 1: the Giants, I think they have more regular season success.
[33:28] Speaker 1: Maybe he gets a title too. If you put Eli
[33:30] Speaker 1: with the Chargers, I don't know if Eli is going
[33:32] Speaker 1: to be good enough to overcome some of the things
[33:34] Speaker 1: that Rivers did. Speaking of quarterbacks who some people think
[33:40] Speaker 1: are a little overrated, Deshaun Watson Todd Monkin reportedly these
[33:46] Speaker 1: two men have hit it off. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler,
[33:50] Speaker 1: this is on the heels of a couple of reports
[33:52] Speaker 1: that kind of indicated that Watson was now the favorite.
[33:56] Speaker 1: It just feels like, at the very least, Watson's camp
[34:00] Speaker 1: is maybe putting this out there that Watson and Monkin
[34:04] Speaker 1: kind of hit it off. If you do look at
[34:05] Speaker 1: what Monkin has done in the past, it fits pretty
[34:09] Speaker 1: well with the best version of Deshaun Watson that we
[34:13] Speaker 1: saw in the NFL. The problem is, we haven't seen
[34:15] Speaker 1: that version in so long I can't believe that it
[34:19] Speaker 1: still exists. But that these two men have hit it off,
[34:22] Speaker 1: how does that make you feel?
[34:24] Speaker 2: Not at all surprised, also not excited by it, because
[34:26] Speaker 2: this is just another step in their pr campaign to
[34:28] Speaker 2: make Browns fans convinced that Watson is their guy and
[34:31] Speaker 2: to forget about Shudor Sanders and relegate him to back
[34:33] Speaker 2: up status. This has been an effort that this club
[34:36] Speaker 2: has undertaken since they hired Todd Munkin. So this stuff's
[34:40] Speaker 2: going to continue to come out four months the whole
[34:42] Speaker 2: preseason training camp. It's going to be all about Deshaun
[34:44] Speaker 2: Watson looking the best he's been in Cleveland and everything else.
[34:47] Speaker 2: But here's the thing. You're absolutely right. We haven't seen
[34:49] Speaker 2: that version of him and we don't know if the
[34:51] Speaker 2: Houston version of him can ever show up again, partly
[34:54] Speaker 2: because the glenoid fracture that he suffered in his shoulder
[34:56] Speaker 2: is a really difficult injury to come back from, and
[34:58] Speaker 2: his arm did not look good the last time he
[35:00] Speaker 2: was on the field. Not to mention the achilles had
[35:03] Speaker 2: a couple of repairs associated but the Browns are in
[35:05] Speaker 2: a position now where they got Watson in one year
[35:07] Speaker 2: left in that deal. They've restructured it multiple years into
[35:10] Speaker 2: the future. They got to get something out of it.
[35:12] Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna don't.
[35:14] Speaker 1: They don't. I mean, I'm already cringing at the source
[35:18] Speaker 1: off between the Shudar Sanders camp and the Watson camp.
[35:21] Speaker 1: You have Dione Sanders talking about how Shoudur's life was
[35:25] Speaker 1: hell and how he wants to talk to Todd Mike.
[35:29] Speaker 1: It's just tooch.
[35:31] Speaker 2: The Browns are really good at inviting drama that's completely
[35:34] Speaker 2: completely avoidable.
[35:36] Speaker 1: All right. That was our number fourteen point of the
[35:39] Speaker 1: things we learned over the weekend. Number fifteen was a
[35:41] Speaker 1: sad item of news. Just rest in peace to SHERM.
[35:44] Speaker 1: Lewis if you're not familiar. Longtime assistant. Was a great
[35:47] Speaker 1: players as a collegiate at Michigan State, but really got
[35:52] Speaker 1: known more as an assistant with the Bill Walsh forty
[35:55] Speaker 1: nine ers. He was also the offensive coordinator for Mike
[35:59] Speaker 1: Holmgren in the Green Bay Packers when they won that
[36:02] Speaker 1: Super Bowl with Brett favre So. He won four Super
[36:05] Speaker 1: Bowls as an assistant. Unfortunately, I think of him used
[36:09] Speaker 1: as an example of the type of coach that never
[36:13] Speaker 1: got a chance and helped to push the league to
[36:16] Speaker 1: enact the Rooney rule back in the day. Really well
[36:20] Speaker 1: respected and beloved coach for those old forty nine ers
[36:23] Speaker 1: teams and then the Packers. So rest in peace to
[36:26] Speaker 1: Sherm Lewis And we finished on a weird note, but
[36:31] Speaker 1: one that feels just. Nick urban Meyer has lost a
[36:36] Speaker 1: thirty million dollar lawsuit against the Jaguars looking for all
[36:40] Speaker 1: the money they never paid him because they fired him
[36:43] Speaker 1: with cause, and he says that was unfair. He wanted
[36:46] Speaker 1: his thirty million dollars back. It's weird to be on
[36:49] Speaker 1: the side of a billionaire in this case and say no,
[36:53] Speaker 1: the Jaguars should keep this money. But the arbitration ultimately
[36:57] Speaker 1: lost for urban Meyer. They do not have to pay
[37:00] Speaker 1: him thirty million dollars. The reason it made this show
[37:03] Speaker 1: is because there was a like a trial essentially, and
[37:06] Speaker 1: the witnesses included urban Meyer, Jaguars long snapper Russ Mattisik,
[37:11] Speaker 1: Jaguars punter Logan Cook, former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambeau, who
[37:17] Speaker 1: urban Meyer was accused of kicking after calling him a
[37:23] Speaker 1: couple bad words, and just being upset that he kicked
[37:26] Speaker 1: I'm trying to avoid Eric, you know, having to use
[37:29] Speaker 1: any beeps here on a day he just wants to
[37:32] Speaker 1: get out of the office and watch Game seven of
[37:34] Speaker 1: the Savers and Trent Balk also in this trial. I
[37:38] Speaker 1: would have paid twenty dollars to watch this far. This
[37:42] Speaker 1: would have been fun.
[37:43] Speaker 3: Of course, yeah, I was like, I'm not going higher
[37:46] Speaker 3: than twenty dollars, but I would have loved to watch
[37:49] Speaker 3: this trial of why urban Meyer was such a piece
[37:52] Speaker 3: of garbage as the coach of the Jaguars.
[37:54] Speaker 2: And the testimony would have just been riveting to hear
[37:57] Speaker 2: from these foreign players who clearly disliked him. Look when
[38:01] Speaker 2: they made this higher, I was like, that's a terrible decision.
[38:03] Speaker 2: I think he was a desperation move at the time.
[38:05] Speaker 2: And erbin Meyer very quickly presented himself as the opposite
[38:09] Speaker 2: of a sympathetic figure with the Jaguars. And this is
[38:12] Speaker 2: one of those rare instances in which you're right, you
[38:14] Speaker 2: do side on the side of a billionaire, because that's
[38:17] Speaker 2: how bad erbin Meyer was as a coach with the Jaguars.
[38:19] Speaker 2: He's much better on television than he is coaching in
[38:21] Speaker 2: the NFL.
[38:22] Speaker 1: He's not good on television. He's terrible. I hate the
[38:25] Speaker 1: fellow bars immediately, don't. I don't really watch him. I
[38:29] Speaker 1: just don't love the fact that he immediately gets a
[38:33] Speaker 1: job a cushy gig after kind of showing himself to
[38:37] Speaker 1: be not knowing ball, Like he didn't know players in
[38:40] Speaker 1: the NFL. He didn't know his players.
[38:42] Speaker 2: He didn't even travel home with the team one time,
[38:44] Speaker 2: he didn't know Aaron Donald.
[38:45] Speaker 1: Yes, when not traveling home with the team and then
[38:48] Speaker 1: being caught on camera grinding on some co ed at
[38:52] Speaker 1: a college. Bar was fairly low on the objectionable things
[38:55] Speaker 1: that you did as a head coach. You know. It
[38:57] Speaker 1: was a rough tenure. So good on the Jaguars for
[39:00] Speaker 1: winning that one. That was the sixteen thing we learned
[39:03] Speaker 1: over the weekend. Shookie, I want you back later in
[39:06] Speaker 1: the week. I haven't even told you this. Are you
[39:08] Speaker 1: available on Wednesday? We need you, buddy, of course, talk.
[39:11] Speaker 1: I always take myself available. Come on, I put some
[39:14] Speaker 1: pressure on him. We will be back in the studio
[39:16] Speaker 1: though on Tuesday. Be myself. It'll be everyone's favorite co
[39:24] Speaker 1: host at least for that day. It's Patrick Claybahan back
[39:27] Speaker 1: in the studio. We're going to do underrated players in
[39:29] Speaker 1: the AFC. We will see them
