[0:00] SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Everything Apple Home.
[0:02] SPEAKER_00: This week it's all about Home OS and the rumoured Apple Home hardware like Apple TV, HomePad, and HomePod.
[0:09] SPEAKER_00: Let's get straight into it.
[0:10] SPEAKER_00: Apple's long rumoured smart home hub could finally be getting close to launch, and alongside it, we could see a new operating system designed specifically for the home.
[0:19] SPEAKER_00: But this story actually goes back much further than you think.
[0:22] SPEAKER_00: If you've been following this story, reports that Apple was exploring a homepad style device with a display dates all the way back to actually 2021.
[0:31] SPEAKER_00: By 2022 and 23, those reports have become a bit more specific, pointing towards an iPad-like smart display.
[0:38] SPEAKER_00: So in one form or another, we've actually been talking about this device for over five years.
[0:43] SPEAKER_00: The latest rumors suggest it will combine a 6-7 inch display with a home pod-like speaker and possibly a mounted option.
[0:50] SPEAKER_00: And the software could just be as interesting as the hardware.
[0:53] SPEAKER_00: According to Mark German, Apple is developing a new operating system that combines elements of TV OS, Watch OS, and iOS that run the new homepad or whatever it's going to be called.
[1:04] SPEAKER_00: The new interface is expected to feature a grid of apps, widgets, and customizable clock faces designed specifically for a device that sits permanent within your home.
[1:13] SPEAKER_00: And this new operating system could potentially be called Home OS, based on trademark activity that may be connected to Apple that first appeared last year.
[1:22] SPEAKER_00: And there's also been other rumors linked to this.
[1:25] SPEAKER_00: One of the most interesting reported features is facial recognition.
[1:28] SPEAKER_00: The home pod could recognize which member of your household is looking at it and automatically display information personalized that person.
[1:35] SPEAKER_00: And if you remember when John Turnos, the new CEO of Apple, said that the iPhone was the personal hub, then this could make sense for the rumoured homepad to be positioned as the home or family hub.
[1:44] SPEAKER_00: And of course, Siri and Apple Intelligence are expected to sit around the centre of all of this.
[1:48] SPEAKER_00: The homepad can be a dedicated way of controlling your smart home accessories, viewing security cameras and accessing personal information around your home.
[1:56] SPEAKER_00: But it potentially goes much more further than that.
[1:58] SPEAKER_00: It's reportedly going to have calendar, Apple music, podcasts, reminders and notes, and also FaceTime and photos and music.
[2:05] SPEAKER_00: So rather than simply just being an Apple home controller, this could become a completely new category of Apple device designed to sit at the center of your home.
[2:13] SPEAKER_00: I actually talked about this in another video and this being the end goal for Apple if they do release this device.
[2:19] SPEAKER_00: This could be like a family hub, and we're already seeing efforts from the likes of Anchor into this space that are combining family style sharing features with smart home control and AI.
[2:28] SPEAKER_00: And then there's Apple TV.
[2:29] SPEAKER_00: Apple TV is already a key part of Apple Home acting as a home hub and on supportive models a threadboarder router.
[2:35] SPEAKER_00: So with Apple apparently building an entire new hardware platform around the home, the relationship between Apple TV, HomePod, and the new HomePad is going to be very interesting to watch.
[2:45] SPEAKER_00: And then we also have the HomePod Mini to complete the lineup, with more references found in code in Audio OS 27 to the new Siri going to be added that adds further weight, we could see something fairly soon.
[2:55] SPEAKER_00: So after five years of waiting and rumors, we might not have long to wait.
[2:59] SPEAKER_00: According to German, Apple could unveil this new Smart Home hub and other home devices as soon as October 26.
[3:06] SPEAKER_00: And if that happens, it could be the beginning of a much bigger new chapter for Apple Home and the wider home experience.
[3:12] SPEAKER_00: So that's everything for Apple Home this week.
[3:14] SPEAKER_00: For deeper coverage on everything, visit AppleHomeAuthority.com and make sure you're following because if Apple does announce new smart home devices next month, I'll have everything you need to know.
[3:23] SPEAKER_00: Thanks very much.
[3:24] SPEAKER_00: I'll speak to you next week.
