Give Me the Ball Podcast — Episode 4: "WHO IS THE BEST PG OAT?" DJ and Yo are back for episode 4, and they're diving straight into a point guard debate — putting five elite point guards head to head to figure out who's really the best to ever do it at the position. Primes, peaks, rings, and pure skill all get weighed as the Yo makes his case for his pick. From there, Yo breaks down LeBron's free agency by going straight to the numbers, walking through his career stats and what they say about where he stands as he weighs his next move. Then DJ doesn't hold back on the Western Conference Finals, letting his hate for the Thunder fly as they break down how that series played out. The NBA Finals talk brings some tough love too, with the guys getting into DeAaron Fox's underperformance on the big stage and what it means for him going forward. They wrap things up by shifting overseas, previewing the final four games of the World Cup and giving their picks for who's going all the way. Point guard debates, LeBron stat lines, Thunder hate, Finals disappointment, and World Cup predictions — Episode 4 has it all. ## Transcript

DJ: We back, man. It's been a minute. I feel like it's been two years since we recorded the last episode.
Yowan: They'll be back. I know. I know, it feels like two years man. How you doing brother?
DJ: Can't complain, bro. God is good. Keeping me busy. Busy in a good and a bad way, I guess. I mean, I drove halfway across the country and I've been been working a lot. So good, good and bad, busy. And I've also been busy doing a whole lot of nothing as well. It's kind of been a weird, weird time in my life. But what about you? How you been doing?
Yowan: You Like you said, you know, back to work, know, do what you gotta do, normal, regular father life, you know, taking care of family, you know, just boring, boring, essential stuff.
DJ: I know. Hey, we started the podcast at a at a very unique time. So we started the podcast while both of us were were at home. So I had just had a ⁓ my third kid, Yowan was off work and we we had all this time to do nothing. We said let's start the podcast. So we started it and ⁓ now real life is has smacked us in the face and we've been ch We've been trying to find time to say consistent, but hey, we figuring out.
Yowan: I know.
DJ: We're figuring it out 'cause this is something that we're gonna be doing for real, man. Y'all y'all better get used to it. Cause we ain't going nowhere.
Yowan: We ain't going nowhere man, we here at the state.
DJ: real, bro. Hey. I saw something online this past week that I was like, man, I have to bring this up to Yowan. And I was talking about it. I drove out here with my dad. I was talking about it. We were having this little debate about it in the the car the whole time. But I saw this thing online and I and I just have to ask you. So there's there's five point guards. One of them has to go. Alright. You got Dame.
Yowan: Mm. Okay, yeah.
DJ: Russ, all in their primes, all in their primes. Dame, Russ, Steph, Kyrie, or D Rose? Who you got? Who has to go?
Yowan: man who has to go i'm gonna be really biased on this because and those names are players that i really like i'm gonna go off play style i'm gonna go off play styles and they they all did things on there you know i'm saying if i go off like
DJ: Who has to go? You're scaring me. You're actually scaring me. Off playstyle? What do you mean by that?
Yowan: you, I know you, I know, look, I know you already. I know you're a big fan of Russell Rezbook, so he's gonna stay for you. But, look, listen, listen, let me go, let me go, let me be, let me be, like, let me tell you, one's how to go. Bro, Dame Lillard bro, every time I even watch a player, I watch, damn, I like the way he play.
DJ: Bro, what?
Yowan: I like his style, man he's a killer. You get what saying? That's one. Damn little have to stay from me. Damn. I'm going best of like, that's just what I like. I'm just saying, listen. Dame Lillard have to stay for me. Undeniable Steph Curry have to stay. The first player I ever, when ⁓ was playing soccer in the past, the first player I ever, ever even so playing, was like, yo, I like it.
DJ: ⁓ my no no no, I agree, I agree, I agree. Mm-hmm.
Yowan: Like I like like when the first time I even watched the basketball video with Steph Curry. I say how this guy doing it? Like he shoot from man, you know what saying? He really made me like really pick up a basketball so he have to stay. Everybody that know me man, Kyle Irving bro like I talked about it in the episode. listen, listen, listen. Well, Kyle, we.
DJ: Y Yoan.
Yowan: I know he's a He plays stars. Crazy. You know, people say he's the most skilled point guard in the league. People say that. So Kyrie stay for me. So I got what, I Dame listen, got Dame Steph Kyrie, right? And then you have D Rose and listen, and then you have D Rose and Westbrook left, right? And you got D Rose and Westbrook left. Hey, listen, man, I was watching a podcast of somebody that was talking about Rose ⁓ and he said, ⁓ You knew D-Rose wanted to drive but you can't stop him. Like he's just gonna go and dunk the ball on you. And he just came in and bro I ain't gonna lie if it was not cause of Andre D-Rose would have be some some some stuff in the league but but listen listen listen listen for me for me I would take Westbrook over D-Rose. I'll take Rez Book over D-Rose. So D-Rose will have to go. I will stay with Rez Book because honestly, a lot of people, and I'm with that, a lot of people for some reason, I don't know why, are downplaying what my boy Rez Book was doing.
DJ: Wait, one hundred percent agree with you. That's why you had me scared. You had me thinking you was gonna say Westbrook. I thought you were gonna leave him out. I was about ready to start fighting, man. Nah, 'cause there's no way
Yowan: Why? Wait. No. Listen like people I don't know man Westbrook man. Hey bro Westbrook is crazy like he's a like he's man
DJ: He's ridiculous. He's we're never gonna see a point guard like that ever again. Him and Steph Curry are two players, two point guards specifically, that we probably won't ever see. Ever s ever see again. I I won't say that because who knows how long they'll be playing basketball after we're gone. But those are like once-in-a-lifetime players, quite literally.
Yowan: They tough. They tough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I agree. I agree, man. Westbrook, man, I ain't gonna lie. I was even watching damn little like one time in the post-cats he was saying, bro, every time he play Westbrook, he just know he was on timing. Like there's no way, every player that said that, when you see Westbrook, like because he's just gonna go, at you He ain't go, you know what saying? He's going, and bro, man, there was a time, I don't wanna mess up the numbers, bro. He was a triple, double, hey, Westbrook, in the league.
DJ: Mm-hmm. Average a triple double three times.
Yowan: What the? Yeah, it book stay for me and he's still and everyone now he's still playing all in those teams I know why did look and you know, I don't I didn't even keep his on the court. Yeah, this is crazy to me
DJ: I know. Hey, let me tell you your list so far, I mean you gave me the list That's not my list, but the like the fact that you kept the two most important players, in my opinion, in the list in your four is valid. And so I just don't get I'm with you with the Russ slander. I've never understood it. He's always played hard. He could be playing the worst basketball of his life, but he's playing as hard as he possibly can every single game.
Yowan: Yeah. there. Yeah, not for sure.
DJ: There was that period of time where he was with the Clippers and the Lakers. Lakers specifically is when he was really getting a lot of a lot of hate. When he couldn't make a shot to save his life. And Lakers fans were booing him, bro. But he was still going out every single game, playing as hard as he could. Like he was still the MVP of the league. How can you like as a basketball player, and I'm sure as a coach and as a as a as a player?
Yowan: Mm. Hehehe. Yeah.
DJ: When you see that as a teammate, when you see that, it's like why would I not want this guy on my team?
Yowan: Yeah, no, play hard, Play hard.
DJ: Doesn't make sense. It does not make sense to me. He's he gets so much hate for no reason. All because all because he's gone through shooting slumps in his career, people want to hate on him. Like the man's average a triple double three times. What are we talking about?
Yowan: But you know. It's true and then most of the people that hate him actually are the people that really don't know basketball and never played basketball. You know how the fans are man. They don't even know, they probably play tennis and they'll ask you and they'll boo on you for doing something that you do. Do get what saying? yes, you know what saying? These people they just dare to hate. They don't even mean what they really like. don't like mean what they say. They dare to yap and just.
DJ: Mm-hmm. Or or couch potatoes.
Yowan: with this negativity but yeah I ain't gonna lie man Westbrook man there's a lot of vet that's getting contract right now I don't know why Westbrook is not getting something bro I don't know I might be wrong maybe it's signing something right now but I don't know do you know if it's signed already?
DJ: Mm-mm. I don't I don't think so, but I saw something about the Thunder trying to to sign him on a on like a one year vet deal. Yeah. And to be honest with you, I don't like the Thunder right now. I used to I used to be okay with the Thunder back when they had KD and Russ in in that team, even after KD left and it was just Russ. Just 'cause I like I'm a big Russ guy. Big Russ fan. And so ⁓ when I when he was on the Thunder Thunder guy, every team he's played on.
Yowan: Thunder? Yeah.
DJ: I'll cheer for him. I hope they win. You know what mean? But if he goes back to the Thunder, even with the team they have now, the team that I absolutely despise.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: Hey, go thunder, man.
Yowan: So why you despise them? Tell me. I just want to know why you just don't like them.
DJ: ⁓ I mean, everybody knows. I don't think I need to they're just ⁓ it's just so hard to watch them play basketball. I I feel like
Yowan: Hehehehehe Why? they
DJ: Well it's not even just that. It's 'cause I don't care about that. Everybody flops. But not ⁓ not everybody can get away with what they're able to get away with on the defensive end.
Yowan: Everybody, yeah, a lot of people.
DJ: Like it's it's so bad to watch sometimes. Like they were out there playing football sometimes, bro. And while while their opponent can't even breathe on their jersey without getting the without getting a foul. Like I remember I remember and then even in the conference finals, the Western Conference Finals, I felt like it was ⁓ well officiated for the most part. I still think it was garbage officiating as far as in favor of the Thunder.
Yowan: Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: But there was even times like SGA, because they weren't giving him as much as they would give him in the regular season as far as the s the stupid foul baiting shots and whatever. But there was at one point where and he got the foul on this, but it was one point in game seven, I think, he was in the corner and he shot faked Vassell. Vassel jumped and turned to go to SGA's left side. So he's jumping on the side of SGA and SGA jumps.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: All the way like three feet to the left into Vassell to shoot the ball, they call the foul. Three shots. I'm like And then they always talk about well it's not a natural shooting motion, that's why so and so couldn't get the call. In the first round, Devin Booker got an offensive foul on a natural shooting motion against the Thunder.
Yowan: Yeah, every time they play you play against a tinder they have this kind of file.
DJ: And SGA's over here. ⁓ SGA's over here shot faking, jumping over to the right three feet to get into a foul, jumping over to the left three feet to get a foul. Jumping two feet forward to get a foul. Like what? How is that a natural shooting motion? Or he's like bringing the ball up this way, not even trying to shoot the ball. He's just trying to act like he's shooting the ball. I'm like, yo, how are we giving him these calls? So it's just and it's not just him. I think they play ridiculously dirty on defense as well. They just traded Lou Dort and I think he's the culprit. So I'm glad he's gone. But now he's now he's in the east. He's going to Atlanta. And so now he's gonna terrorize the Celtics. ⁓ so that sucks. But I'm I just I couldn't stand watching them play. I do like a lot of the players they have now. So ⁓ like they just drafted Bennett Starts from Iowa, they just drafted Mara from Michigan.
Yowan: Where's it going? ⁓ ATL?
DJ: And they drafted, I believe, ⁓ I can't remember who else they drafted. It might have been the dude from BYU, Richie Saunders. I think they drafted him too. But they they got some and I like Jared McCain. I like AJ Mitchell. I like most of their team. I just hate how dirty that that they were allowed to play. So I guess it wasn't entirely their fault. But I don't care whose fault it was, it wasn't fun for me to watch at all whatsoever. And I was very, very, very happy to see them lose. But if they get Russell Westbrook.
Yowan: Yeah, it was not fun.
DJ: I need him to get a ring before he retires, even if it's at the expense of my Celtics, bro. And I I'm saying it. Even if it's Thunder, if Russ signs with the Thunder and it's Thunder Celtics, I might actually hope that the Thunder win. Because I would I would much rather see Russ go out on on a championship. Because I know the Celtics are gonna get more championships in the future. And we've won the most in the NBA history. So I'm like, we can donate one to Russ. You feel me? Not in a bad way. Like he's gonna earn it, but we can get
Yowan: Hahaha. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: We can give one to Russ. So that's why that's why I am there. I just the Thunder Man. And my wife's a big Thunder fan, so she rubs it in my face all the time. But that's where I'm at with the Thunder. Nah, crazy s crazy side story. We were watching the playoffs this year.
Yowan: I am. Mm-hmm.
DJ: And I Bro, when I tell you I would have her mad at me after the games.
Yowan: What'd do?
DJ: Bro, like dead like you know you know when when ⁓ your wife is mad at you or you guys are like mad at each other and you don't talk, like you just you just don't talk and you kinda act like you're avoiding each other and you wait for them to say something or you wait for them to apologize, like you get the silent treatment basically. Bro, when I tell you after these playoff games, after every single game, every other night, I'd be I'd I'd have to get in the bed, I'd be like, baby, like I'm sorry. And she'd be like, No, don't talk to me.
Yowan: Cause you just don't talk, yeah. Yeah.
DJ: Don't talk to me. I can't watch these games with you. Straight up after every single game, if the Thunder were playing. She would say that to me. That would happen after every game. It got to the point where I told her, I was like, okay, look, I'm not gonna say anything. I'm just gonna call the game how I see it. Because at first, I'm not gonna lie, I would talk crap about the Thunder. I'd be like, man, he's trash, he's trash, he's trash. And I'd be saying all that while they're playing. And so I get why she was kind of upset with me. I wouldn't rub it in her face, but I would make comments all the time.
Yowan: Hahaha. Yeah. Oh, it's just, ah!
DJ: And so I'd be okay, I won't do it anymore because I love watching basketball with you. I love that you love to watch basketball. And so I'm not gonna ru I'll try not to ruin that. So I won't I won't s talk crap about them, but I'm gonna call the game how I see it. If that's a foul that should have been called, or a foul that shouldn't have been called, I'm going to say something. And even then, it didn't work out very well. But luckily they didn't make the finals or else we probably wouldn't have been able to watch the finals. So
Yowan: Yes. Man, if they pass, it would be crazy, The internet would be crazy if the thunder would have passed. I ain't gonna lie, you know that for sure. But you think if the thunder would have passed, the Knicks would have won?
DJ: I know. I no, this was this was actually crazy 'cause this is what my thought process was. Is I thought that the Knicks had a better chance to beat the Thunder than the Spurs. And the reason I thought that is because I felt like the matchup was better. Cause when you have Wemby and guards that shoot lights out like the the Spurs were in the Western Conference Finals, it's like, bro, a team that hot cannot be stopped. Well, we saw otherwise. And I just thought Wemby, ⁓
Yowan: Okay. Hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: Obviously great player. But I just thought he underperformed in the in the finals, as well as Darren Fox, who in my opinion had more pressure on him than Wimby did. ⁓ so I think I think that was ⁓ a very big disappointment to Spurs fans. I know the the media ate De'Aaron Fox up after the playoffs.
Yowan: I was about to talk about the arm fox too man is Man, I still see some mem about him right now. I'm like, yo.
DJ: the so World Cup was today. I seen a meme in I seen a meme of him in a Messi jersey. ⁓
Yowan: I'm just a dancing crazy yo. Oh, ha ha ha. Yo, man.
DJ: gotta go. The DeAaron Fox gotta go. But nah, they're gonna keep him and they're they're paying him a bag, bro. It's crazy. But nah.
Yowan: They're keep him. And I see also, what's his name? Victor also taking a pay cut, the whatever pay cut they say. I don't know if I'm, it was a what? was a what? 5 % less or something? I don't want to be wrong.
DJ: No, I think it was no, no, no. I think it was ⁓ I think it was actually twenty five percent pay cut. So it was a good amount. It wasn't it wasn't ⁓ Jalen Brunson pay cut, but it was a pretty good pay cut. So
Yowan: 25 % so can keep his team. They gonna be scary bro, I ain't gonna lie to you. But teams got better, man, teams got better.
DJ: A. Spurs. Yeah, no, everybody got better on in this offseason. Except the Celtics. I know. Everybody but the Celtics got better. Yeah. I think LeBron I think LeBron's going to the Celtics. I think LeBron's going to the Celtics.
Yowan: We're still trying to see where ⁓ BronBron going man. Except the Celtics? He said everybody but the Celtics. Come on man, was shit on my boy man. Dick man. Yeah, yeah man, he ain't even gonna land there man. What you about? Yeah, my... What's the... Yeah, no. Yo.
DJ: I'm not even I'm I'm not even lying to you. I think the ch I think the chance is this bit I think it's this this much of a chance that he goes to Boston. But I but I could see it. Am I delusional for thinking he's going to Boston?
Yowan: Yeah, go on. is not gonna go. Yeah, he's not going to bust him. just, I don't think he's going to bust him, No.
DJ: But tell me, like why? Why wouldn't he go to Boston? Why would he go 'cause I know there's a lot of Philly talk. Why would he go to Philly before he goes to Boston?
Yowan: Well, it's not only Philly Talk Show, so they talk about what Cleveland knows, right?
DJ: Okay, here here's my actual okay, like realistically, where do I think LeBron's gonna end up? Realistically, I think LeBron James is going to I'm pretty sure they've already narrowed it down to Eastern Conference teams. I don't think he's flirting, for lack of better term, with the Warriors anymore. So I think he's only looking in the East. And so realistically, I think it's gonna be Miami or Cleveland.
Yowan: Mm. Yeah. I like Miami though. I like Miami for him. I ain't gonna lie DJ, I like Miami. I like that. I like that. Wait, who they got? Yo, I ain't gonna lie, I like that. He can play point there.
DJ: That could be very, very scary. That'd be dangerous. Yeah, no. It's a crazy thing. Cause that's what they need.
Yowan: Yes, he can't play point there. ⁓ I like Miami, ⁓ But, ⁓ was also, I'm because just thought about if he going to Cleveland, then James Harden gotta go
DJ: Ayy, that's what I'm thinking about. But I think That's what I was saying. Like, people were like, he's gonna go to Cleveland or he's gonna go to Miami or he's going to Philly. And I'm like, Why would he go to Philly? I don't I don't get why he would go to Philly, 'cause if you think about Philly right now
Yowan: Yeah.
DJ: I'll be surprised, like, and this isn't just me being a butthurt Celtics fan. Maybe it is, I don't know. But I just we've seen teams like this get put together and they fall apart.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: So and I and this the thing, I love Jalen Brown, and I think he's a good enough player, and he's played with Jason Tatum long enough to know that if like how to play with another superstar. It's not like the Celtics were his team and only his team forever. In fact, the Celtics were only his team this year. You know what I mean? And so I think he's comfortable with playing with another superstar. And obviously Tyrese Maxie and Joel Embiid are comfortable playing with each other. But I also think Joel and Bede has a really, really big ego.
Yowan: Yeah.
DJ: And that could get in the way of Maxie, Jalen Brown, and Edgecomb all working together. Does that make sense?
Yowan: Yeah does make sense but me for Philly it does make sense I agree with that me for Philly I'm more scared about the rookie what's his name Edgecomb Did I say that right? Edgecomb VJ Edgecomb that's his name yeah I'm more scared about him I gonna lie you he's shining first year and you know how it goes you bring another 20 plus it's a 20 plus point per game and somebody got to somebody got to give up something
DJ: Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. No. Well, it's that's what I'm saying, and then you add LeBron to that equation, and what happens?
Yowan: I just believe like if you see Lebron go to Philly I said yeah he's you already know he's just gonna be like yeah vet really vet he's gonna be like a vet for real but look Lebron say on ⁓ I forgot what's his name what's the indie point guard Halliburton whatever I don't want to say his name wrong he said he can average 10 points in the league until he's 65
DJ: Yeah. Who, LeBron? I believe it.
Yowan: That's what Lebron said. Yeah. He said he can average 10 points in the league until he's 60. Like they asked him the question and he said, yeah, I can average 10 points in the league until I'm 65. So Lebron.
DJ: I believe in. I think watching LeBron play, watching him play the past few seasons, like like once he hit that twenty season mark, and you look at all the other players who who who've hit that mark, like Vince Carter or ⁓ Mike Conley or Kobe, excuse me, like they've kinda had a a a dip in their performance. Some of them very extreme dip in their performance.
Yowan: no disrespect to Mike but ⁓ sorry but I'm so sorry just got it my my brain I just got to bring it up when you say Mike Conley ⁓ Mike Conley and then Conley right after I don't know in my brain my brain was like I ain't gon lie why those two names with the same sentence ⁓ yeah
DJ: No, but listen. But listen, they're both guys who've reached that 20 year mark. That's why. Same with ⁓ same with ⁓ Al Horford now, I believe he's at he's hit twenty years. But like you see you see like from their primes to where they are or where they were when they hit the twenty year mark, it's like significant decrease. And they were having trouble winning games.
Yowan: Yeah, yeah, okay.
DJ: I mean Mike Conley was on a really, really good team. Al Horford was on a really, really good team. So that's the exception. But you have Kobe Bryant, who's still expected to be the guy on his team in LA, who wasn't really making things happen. The Lakers weren't very good. LeBron was kind of I mean, you could argue they're building around Lu I mean, now they are clearly gonna build around Luka and Austin Reeves, but LeBron was still the guy. He was the only one who could stay healthy.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: And he did w he did what he was supposed to. And he's still averaging twenty plus in the league.
Yowan: Tough man.
DJ: Bro, and no signs of slowing down. So it's like whoever picks up LeBron is gonna be good for the at least this next season. And if he decides to play after that, at least that next season as well. I don't really see him I see him being able to average twenty points in the NBA for at least five more years, if he if that's something he wanted to do.
Yowan: What's crazy to me is sometimes I know you watch on the line every time people are asking question when do you retire and he's always making jokes about oh I'm a family guy I always want to go play golf or whatever and then you see him next day dunking the ball like he got 20 more years left I'm like man who is this guy man like in the lane like I'm saying yo
DJ: Mm-hmm. It's crazy.
Yowan: That's crazy.
DJ: And some of his dunks this year were like na Like that one he had on who was it? There who was it? Luke Cornette. He dunked on Luke Cornette this year when they played the Spurs. Bro. Nasty. Nasty, bro. Like, and you're looking and you're watching him and you're like, this man is 41, 42 years old. There's an there's no possible way. And then people still have the nerve to sit here and say he's not the GOAT. But that's another conversation that we we don't we don't really have to dig into. We don't really gotta dig into it.
Yowan: Damn, it's man. Yeah, we know.
DJ: That's another conversation for another episode. If somebody's bold enough to ask us that, 'cause we're I know we're both LeBron guys. At least I think you are, right? Okay. Okay, good.
Yowan: for sure. Yeah, I'm a big, yeah, big LeBlanc guy. Because honestly, yeah, we talk about, know, man, look, I see LeBlanc, Like, yeah, we talk about, you know, I didn't see, you can go and watch highlights of Michael Jordan, highlights of other players, and man, they undeniably tough. LeBron James man, roll in the ⁓ I don't go lie, man. It's just tough. ⁓ I don't think, honestly, there's nothing else.
DJ: Hey, there's nothing else a there's nothing else that needs to be said about LeBron, bro. If you if you just can't if you it's just at this point, it's just coping with the fact that there's a new goat. And I wouldn't even say a new goat, but because he's been the goat for a while. But I think it's hard for people to I guess come to terms with that when they've only known one person to be the goat. You know what mean? For it for since since the nineties it was or
Yowan: see you soon.
DJ: Yeah, since the nineties, it was Michael Jordan. That's the GOAT. You know what I mean? So I think it's it's hard for people to really like see past. I think when LeBron retires, it's gonna be easier for a lot of people to really like see what he's done over the past however many seasons it would have been at that point that he's played, and be like, wow. Like that was a a bro, and like you think about this, people always bring up I sent you that video earlier today of like
Yowan: Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
DJ: The my the Michael Jordan fans, they always their only argument is six rings, like six and though in the finals or whatever. But like you have to think about this. Like, what did Michael Jordan play? Fifteen seasons? Something like that.
Yowan: I think you play something like that. Yeah.
DJ: Michael Jor ⁓ LeBron has played, he's going on his twenty second, I believe. And he's made the finals ten times. So you think about that. He's been in the finals almost half of his career, eight times in a row.
Yowan: Yeah man, I was watching
DJ: Like that that's insane to think about.
Yowan: It's really insane. ⁓ One time I saw a meme I posted. It was kind of funny, but really interesting. So we take the rings out and I want to see what you think about it. We take the rings out. Who's the best player? Michael Jordan, Kobe or LeBron?
DJ: I'm Braun. Braun.
Yowan: We take the ring zone Why?
DJ: He because you look at him and he's doing everything. He's not like he's not just scoring the ball. He's getting his teammates involved. He's leading the team in assists. Not only is he scoring and leading the team in assists, but he's out rebounding everybody else as well. And not only is he doing that, but he's like the second leading blocker on the team. And not only is he doing that, but he's leading the team in steals. Or he's second in seals. You know what I mean?
Yowan: Yeah. That is soon.
DJ: Like I'll take that over the guy like you have like ⁓ you have LeBron scoring thirty points, eight rebounds, six assists, or eight rebounds, or eight assists and six rebounds, or whatever the case may be. Almost a triple double every game. And then you look at Michael and Kobe, who are out here scoring, yeah, maybe they're scoring forty, forty five, which don't act like LeBron never scored forty or forty five points before. But maybe they're scoring 45 points or 40 points, but then you look at their rebounds and assists and who somebody else on the team is is leading in rebounds or assists. LeBron's gonna be the guy who you bring in, who you know is gonna do everything really, really, really well.
Yowan: Yeah. And you know what's crazy? I don't know. I don't know if I, I think I'm right. I think I was watching it the other day. I just was curious and I just wanted to see how much he, what was his percentage on his whole career on field goal and things like this. I think it was 50%.
DJ: That's my His field goal percentage?
Yowan: thinking I think so or to let me see cuz I was it was something like this in his whole career it's crazy to me you level
DJ: That sounds high. That sounds that sounds high. But it's LeBron. So yeah, look that up. Look that up. But while you're looking that up, I did also see another stat that was talking about
Yowan: Do you think that's... Do you think that's... Let me see. I think I'm not wrong. Yeah.
DJ: Like ⁓ not stat, but like another fact about LeBron's stats. And he has more forty point playoff games than or he has more playoff wins by himself than the Bulls have as a franchise.
Yowan: Yeah. crazy and that is true is averaging
DJ: He has he has more go ahead.
Yowan: is already 50.7 % DJ. DJ. How many years you say LeBron DJ?
DJ: I think he's going into twenty he got drafted in ⁓ three. So this would be twenty third season.
Yowan: You! You!
DJ: Yeah, that's d that's disgusting.
Yowan: DJ that's crazy! You have to know basketball to really know that this thing is crazy. Yeah it's okay.
DJ: Fifty percent. That means that means that means basically one out of every two shots is going in over the course of twenty three years. Ha ha ha.
Yowan: I have to check for Lebron, for Michael Jordan and Kobe because in my mind I feel like everybody talk about those things. But then at the same time they can all talk about, he was taking more shots or whatever, He was there for a long time too. He was taking actually more shots in the game between like, that is asking to take more shots in the game. You know, between those two. Because it's a factor too. You know what saying?
DJ: Mike. Mike, there was that stat there's that stat there's ⁓ there's stats that literally show at each point marker, so five thousand points, ten thousand points, fifteen thousand points, twenty thousand points, LeBron achieved it at a younger age and on less shots than Michael Jordan did.
Yowan: Join us. ⁓ shoot. Crazy, that's crazy.
DJ: So hey, I'm just saying, man. I'm just saying I think people it's gonna take it's gonna take him to retire. And you know when he retires, they're gonna show everything he's done in his career. They're gonna put it up on a list in front of people's faces where you can actually see it in front of your face when he retires. And people are gonna read that list and they're not even gonna be able to finish it by the time they take it down. And they're gonna be like, dang, I wasn't even done with the list of things that this man accomplished in his career.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah? Yeah? It's gonna be crazy.
DJ: It's gonna be crazy. I'm just saying, and and like I said, I'm I don't even claim myself as a LeBron fan. Like I'm not gonna go out of my way to cheer for LeBron James. I never really have, to be honest with you. But I can't deny the facts when they're right in front of my face. That's just that's the only thing. And now that I think now that I've acknowledged him as the greatest player of all time.
Yowan: Yeah, that's 100 % right.
DJ: I think I'm starting to appreciate him more and therefore I like to watch him play more. Because it's like we don't know how much longer he's gonna be playing. So when he's playing, of course I wanna watch him play. This demand this is the greatest player ever. Why would I not wanna watch him play? So that's my thing. And if he gets another ring, I don't care what people say, that's five rings out of eleven tries.
Yowan: Yeah, he's tough, Yeah.
DJ: That means six second place rings or ⁓ not rings, but s six runner-ups. Like he's made the finals ten times in his career.
Yowan: Yeah, it is ridiculous. also that's a debate that a lot of people talking about it. And I know we probably did, I probably did talk to you about it, but I just want to now when we on the podcast, I think it's going to be a good thing. What do you think about ⁓ the competition that was planned against compared to what LeBron James is playing now? I know we probably did talk about it a lot, but we never did on the podcast. What you think Michael Jordan was playing against, Kobe playing against, LeBron James playing against? I already know the answer, Brian. But go ahead.
DJ: That's ridiculous. I don't I hate and the reason I hate answering this question is because obviously I don't want to like I don't want people to think I'm disrespecting anyone because people like basketball there's people who have paved the way for basketball to be basketball today. That includes Mike Michael Jordan being one of those people that includes every single basketball player who was in the NBA in the nineties. All those guys, whether they were good or not, were Paving the way for future players, right? So I don't say this in a disrespectful way because I really don't want it to sound that way. Cause I know a lot of people don't care, but I respect the game enough to acknowledge those are some of the greats, right? But when you look at the speed, the athleticism, the strength, I know people always compare the strength of the two generations, and I don't know what they're looking at, but I think people in today's NBA are
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: Way stronger as well. The only thing that today's game is less has less of than it did back then is the physicality. Is there's not as much hard fouls being allowed. There's not as much hard fouls in general. Right? Right, right. And so I'll say that in the nineties, they didn't really there wasn't a whole lot of protecting players.
Yowan: Mm. Yeah, they're protecting the players now, more.
DJ: I mean, if you go back and watch Michael Michael Jordan definitely got a protective whistle. I don't know where that narrative came from that he didn't, but he literally did. ⁓ especially after they saw how teams were beating him up, like the Pistons, they started really protecting him, to be honest with you. Like that's just a fact. But I think the competition now is is it's way harder to be a good player in today's NBA than it was back then. If that makes sense.
Yowan: Hmm. Hmm. Yeah.
DJ: Now Kobe's a different story because Kobe got the best of both worlds. So not only did Kobe play in the in the late nineties in the NBA, because he got drafted in ninety six, I believe. So not only did he have that taste of the nineties basketball and the physicality and and ⁓ what those players had to offer, but he also crossed over into the early two thousands and even mid two thousands when he'd retired. ⁓ but like you look at that even And it's like Kobe Kobe dominated in both eras. Right? And you could argue because his age, he wasn't as dominant at the end of his career. That's obviously plays a huge factor. But I think it also is because you have guys coming into the NBA who are becoming more skilled, much more skilled, much more athletic, ⁓ much more just better players in general. Like guys who can do more things than they could back then.
Yowan: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
DJ: If you if you drafted a center in the nineties, like people were building teams around big men typically. So you have these centers, Hakeem Lajiman, Patrick Ewing, ⁓ Shaq, ⁓ in the nineties. You know what I mean? You have these guys that they're building teams around because that's what dominated the game back then was a big, strong center. ⁓ David Robinson, like the list goes on. But I think once once you got to that point of guards starting to take over the game is when you saw centers
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: Developing into big guards. You know what I mean? And then that's when the game just completely shifted. That's when you get a Wimby. That's when you get a Jokic. That's when you get an Embiid. That's when you get Giannis. That's when you get those guys. And then it's just wrapped from there. You can't really do much. You put Giannis or Jokic in the 90s. Dude, that's ridiculous what they're doing. Jokic, bro?
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they kill him.
DJ: Jokic is already a top five player of all time and that's not a debate anymore, I don't think. Shouldn't be.
Yowan: That's not, yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, it's crazy. He literally can't.
DJ: go. ⁓ them them dudes go, man. But Steph, Jokic, Bron those are three of top five players of all time, in my opinion. So
Yowan: Yeah, tough. No, can't. Yeah, I can't go against Jokic, man. Crazy, man. It's crazy, They're crazy to know that he's just going back overseas and watching his horse and come back and dominating the league, That's insane to me, bro. I ain't gonna lie, man. He got to give us a secret, man. I think I'm gonna have to go and watch horse too. Like what's going on, man? Yo.
DJ: Not not horse watching. I don't think that's a secret, bro. I think the secret is being seven foot two with a amazing feel for the game of basketball. That's what the secret is.
Yowan: haha It's so funny because talking about the summer league, ⁓ I just want to bring about a summer league. I just saw a post when it was two, five, seven guard playing against each other. It was Noel. What's his name? Noel? I don't want to mess up his name. Is Marcus Noel? And then who? And then Yu-Ki and the other one.
DJ: ⁓ yeah yeah yeah. Yeah, Marquise Noel. Marquise Noel. I can't remember the Yuki the little Asian dude. I can't remember his name.
Yowan: Yeah, they both go at it. Like one's got 14 points, the other one got five points. was angle-out. was, yeah, apparently, based on the highlights, that's she was putting Yuki to the bar. Yeah.
DJ: Hey, hey, let me tell you, bro. Marquise Noel is the NCAA legend, bro. I don't know if I don't know if did you s did you know did you know him did you know about him at Kansas State?
Yowan: That run was the way. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, in college, yeah. Kill him. Kill him. As a smoker, you have to know him. Man. Man. He's tough. Highlights machine.
DJ: Bro. Shout out to small guards, man. Shout out to all the small guards. He was filthy. I'm talking about, bro, the one play, the one play I think of is when he's sitting at like half court and he's arguing with his coach. He's acting like he's arguing with his coach. He's like, nah, he ain't running the play right. Through the lob up, bro said, like, what? Bro, I remember watching that game. I was like.
Yowan: Hmm. I that, I saw that, I saw that. I saw that, I saw that. And Doug that, yeah. I saw that, I saw that. That was crazy.
DJ: WHAT?!
Yowan: But imagine it's still, that's how you know the league now building people different. They have their team, they have the mindset now. A guy like this still don't have a real good spot in the league.
DJ: And he got drafted. ⁓ my light just went out.
Yowan: Yeah, but now if you're not 6'6", you're not 6'6", they can bring the ball up. They can, you know what saying, shoot the ball at least a 40%. I ain't gonna lie, man. As a point guard, yeah, you might have to go to the G. Or you might have to go to China. Or you might have to go with...
DJ: Tragedy. Hey, that's where he's been too. That's where he's been. Learn Chinese. Get ready to learn Chinese, buddy. That's what they say. Shish yeah. That's the only word I know. Shish yeah.
Yowan: Hey, did I did did did? Hey, did they? You remind me when they say do our folks?
DJ: ⁓ my gosh, bro. Deer and Fox of the Shanghai Sharks. Hey, that's where he that's where he needs to go.
Yowan: That's enough!
DJ: No
Yowan: Yo, you it to me too, said, ⁓ there's no way, they gotta chill on him,
DJ: Nah, that Photoshop picture of him d dribbling the ball with the Shanghai Sharks.
Yowan: Oh, he got personal history. Next year he got, man, I ain't gonna lie. He got to prove people, he got to prove the wrong. Like he, like, yeah.
DJ: Well, you know what's crazy? Nobody's gonna care what he does in the regular season this year, this next season. He could he could literally win MVP and nobody will give a you know what I'm about to say, a fudge. will care if he wins MVP. Nobody cares what he does until playoffs come because they got to see, bro, how are you gonna perform when it actually matters? ⁓ because I'm not gonna lie, he was hooping.
Yowan: Yeah. I I know, know, ay. Going out to the matters, yeah. Yeah.
DJ: He was a hooping all year. Their whole team, obviously, they were a two seed. They were hooping, bro. Hooping. And this man gets to the playoffs and acts like he never played before. I'm telling you, I posted it after every game. After every game. And I had been texting people, all my friends, all the group chats I'm in. I had been trying to tell people that if they lose, I'm I'm not it's obviously basketball's a team sport, it's a team effort. But when you in the NBA, it's a business.
Yowan: Yeah.
DJ: And when you have the fattest paycheck, there's more responsibility on you and you're expected to perform, and that's just what it is. And he didn't.
Yowan: Yeah. Especially when you have a decent amount, if you have a decent amount of ball in your hands also. You get what I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: That's what I'm saying. He's the point guard. And he did not do what he was supposed to do at all. Not even close. He gave him one good game in the finals. Or in the playoffs, period. And it was against the Thunder, I believe. He had one good game. After that. After him, he got hurt a little bit before that. But after that, bro, he was he was toast. And people are trying to say, ⁓ he had an ankle injury. ⁓ this and that. If he can't play good, if if his ankle's bothering him that bad at this stage. You cannot play him then.
Yowan: When you got Dylan Harper, yeah, when you got Dylan Harper, like if you really can't play, man, what's up with you? But I don't know. A lot of people jump on the couch too.
DJ: Dylan Harper was hoopin'. Yeah, bro. Hey, but no, it's it's true though. It's true. Because why was Darren Why was he getting all these minutes when Dylan Harper was clearly outplaying him? Now I get it though, because it's a business and he is financially your most valuable asset. He's making more than any player on your team. And you have to play him because now what does it look like? He's the coach. He doesn't run the show. Right? His job is controlled by somebody else, too. So imagine the man.
Yowan: That would put jump on the coach too. Mm-hmm.
DJ: Who ⁓ signs De'Aaron Fox's paycheck and the coach's paycheck? Imagine he sees Darren Fox isn't playing. And now he's like, Why am I paying this man fifty million dollars a year if he's not gonna play? It's the coach's fault. So now what happens to the coach? The coach loses his job because Darren Fox doesn't play, because De'Aaron Fox is making fifty million dollars a year. No way.
Yowan: I'm back on the other phone. My bad, brother. I was out all day. Let me see.
DJ: Should I should I keep with this one? ⁓ it's up to you, bro. We've done good on this one. We don't have much editing to do and we are at forty six minutes. Forty six minutes? I think we probably have like maybe a minute of editing. Maybe. So far. For this one? Yeah. So we're at like a forty five minute episode. So if you wanna keep it if you wanna keep it on that phone for the next ten minutes or if you want to ⁓
Yowan: Should I keep with this one? 46 minutes. for this one.
DJ: Wait for your other one to charge and then finish recording, it's up to you. I think we can was the camera. I just want to figure out Try to flip it so the screen goes big. I can't think the camera But you can't plug your mic into that one, right?
Yowan: I think the camera, how's the camera look? just want to figure it Yeah, I'm trying to take the thing off because... I cannot. I mean, I can, I think. ⁓ yeah, yeah, I can.
DJ: Yeah.
Yowan: I can't because I have the thing. Remember last time I just didn't have my AirPods.
DJ: I can't because I have the thing. Remember last time I just didn't have my opening.
Yowan: Who do you know? I heard that you're going, going, going, going, who do you know?
DJ: Yeah. That's how I scratch my throat.
Yowan: ⁓ pause.
DJ: Look, look, no, no, no, no pause. Listen. Dun dun dun dun dun mm.
Yowan: I thought he was talking about African language, man.
DJ: Mm mm mm mm mm mm.
Yowan: Wait, how's the camera look right now?
DJ: You gotta flip it. Is your phone locked?
Yowan: Number four and slip.
DJ: The the screen you're like sideways.
Yowan: so I gotta flip it, okay, wait give me a second. I'm put the thing like this.
DJ: You know how you you know how you swipe down to like s to put your brightness up and stuff?
Yowan: how for some reason how this one is fully charged and the other one because I lifted yeah this phone is fully charged like 80 86 percent how my man phone not charged like this
DJ: What? Bro. You gotta flip your camera, gang.
Yowan: Keep it again.
DJ: Try to so hey, listen, you know how the camera like locks how the iPhone can lock your screen?
Yowan: I know what he's talking about.
DJ: if you can if if that's on.
Yowan: That's not all.
DJ: It's not thing.
Yowan: I'm on a different... it's still showing the black part, kind of.
DJ: Yeah, it is. Andrew likes sideways.
Yowan: I like sideways.
DJ: Yeah, so like it's the black bar that's like vertical like this with the black on the side and when you flipped it you're you're you were just like sideways in the middle of it.
Yowan: Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Can you hear me?
DJ: Yeah, I can hear you.
Yowan: see if I can
DJ: Bro, episode five, that means one month.
Yowan: I like the episode, I like it. The way it's flowing, it feels better.
DJ: Just thought about that.
Yowan: I'll really put this on in charge real quick.
DJ: Alright. Put your main hole on the on the charger.
Yowan: Yeah, put them in a little.
DJ: Ha ha ha.
Yowan: Man, that's crazy. I was literally, look, was about to say, yo, DJ, let me check my phone. I was about to say Riverside, I was just waiting for you, you know?
DJ: Ha ha ha ha.
Yowan: I was just waiting for you to like stop so can say Riverside so when we go edit it, won't be bad, you know? And then I'll smooth out the body size same.
DJ: Yeah. Bro, you were stuck like this. Look, let me show you. You were like this.
Yowan: you Well, what was that? It's all...
DJ: And I was explaining I was exp I was explaining something to you using my hands and everything.
Yowan: I know the only thing is that, it'll boom and it'll disappear. But we getting better at it, man. We getting better. We back, we got back every day.
DJ: And then And then you were like this. Dude, I have to pee so bad.
Yowan: You what I'm Go pee man, we go out. You go pee, I'm gonna put you some toilet
DJ: Yo, this lighting this lighting makes me look like a like a ultra light skin.
Yowan: But like now you like kind of, almost the whole time, you was kind of blurry. When we go edit it will be like cool, you know what I'm It'll be good. I gotta go get a haircut. My hair is going fast, man.
DJ: Yeah, I'm cooked. I'm just gonna cut all my hair off.
Yowan: You're not cooked, What are you talking about, you're cooked. How much you weigh now? I remember you used to be like 190 something.
DJ: Mm-hmm. I'm probably the same. I went back up, brother. I'm not gonna lie after that season ended.
Yowan: Like 200?
DJ: Nah, I'm like one ninety something. But I just I'm back in the I'm back in the lab. Don't worry about it.
Yowan: way then i don't know why i'm just a baby way man i'll probably like you know more than 165 or maybe 168 or something
DJ: What are you, one sixty? Yeah, but the thing about you, Yoan, is your your body fat is probably like twelve percent.
Yowan: Yeah, my body fat is low. It's not like a lot.
DJ: So you're gonna be you're gonna look because you still look like big. You still look big. But your body fat is so low. So you don't have a lot of fat. So you're you l you weigh less, but you are like way more toned. Like me. Like me, I have to probably I probably like twenty two percent body fat and a hundred and ninety something pounds. And so I gotta cut that body fat down to where I get like
Yowan: Yeah, it makes sense.
DJ: Like you, like twelve percent body fat. And then I'll probably weigh if I kept the muscle, if I didn't grow any more muscle or lose any muscle, and I cut down to like ten percent body fat or twelve percent body fat, I would probably weigh like one s one seventy, one seventy five, but I would look bigger than I look now, as far as like jacked wise. Does that make sense? Yeah. Probably, yeah.
Yowan: or you ⁓ would look bigger because the muscle would be bigger and bigger things like this.
DJ: Yeah, the you'd be able to see the muscles more, so I would just look bigger. Kinda like you, how you can see like your shoulders.
Yowan: Yeah. me when I see myself, feel like I'm too skinny. I don't know. When I see myself in the mirror, I'm like, I'm too skinny. But people will look at me like, oh, you're good, man. You're good. When I look at myself in the mirror, I'm like, man, I look too skinny. But I've been in a lot, man. I ain't gonna lie. Look, I work out like a lot, man. I'm not gonna lie.
DJ: In your abs, like Nah. No. Trust me now. That's how I feel.
Yowan: and given our time away and plus the 10 hours also, crazy.
DJ: Bro, you're on. Real talk, bro. We gotta move to the same city.
Yowan: So it's easier for us to record. So we get our studio, he's like chilling, you know.
DJ: Not even just that. We just gotta move to the same city.
Yowan: Yeah, it will go faster. But the thing is me, my wife got everything here. My parents here, my parents got a house here.
DJ: I know. Well that's w that's the same as me. That's literally the same situation I'm in now.
Yowan: Like they used to tell me, you know what mean? They used to tell me they were right footed to me. I think I'm just screwing my wife. This is a photo of my wife and everybody you
DJ: That's how it is for me, bro. That's why I said that's why I told my wife the other night. I told her I was 'cause I was talking to her about it. I felt bad, but I also like wanted obviously you wanna be honest, you know.
Yowan: I dance, but...
DJ: But I just told her, I was like, you know what, I'm not gonna lie, like I thought I was gonna like living here in this city, but I don't. Just because just because she grew up here and she dated a lot of guys, and like I just feel awkward, like if I accidentally bump into one of them and I don't even know it. And like they know me though, because obviously they're all butthurt that she's not with them no more. They know me.
Yowan: for you know.
DJ: From IG stocking her or whatever. But I have no idea who they are. And I'll give you an example. Right after we got married, ⁓ one of her best friends, her her husband, plays church ball every like Wednesday. And he invites me to come play with him. And it's actually really good runs. Like that that time I went, there was a pro guy that was there. So it's like pretty decent runs. And it's a lot of
Yowan: Yeah. Hey, those children bro, those children bro, I'm gonna lie to be nasty.
DJ: Yeah. So I pulled up and it was like the last the last day I was gonna be in town before we moved to Virginia. But I still pulled up anyway. I like, I bet, 'cause I just wanted to hoop. And so I pull up, I play, I go home, and she was like, ⁓ my gosh, this is so awkward and I was like, What? And her friend so like I said, it's her friend's husband who invited me. He's the one who puts it on for his church. And so her friend was there. And obviously her husband was there and I'm playing with them and her her friend's watching. And so her friend, I guess, was texting her my my wife while I was gone. So I get home and she's like, ⁓ my gosh, she texted me that my ex was there and I guess you guys were playing together. I was like, What? She's like, Yeah, my ex was there and you were playing with him. I was like, nah, see now I just feel weird. You know what I mean? 'Cause I 'cause like I didn't even know.
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: And I just and I was playing. Like I could I could go down the street to the store 'cause her school, the the high school she went to is right around the block, which means all the kids that she went to high school with live close to here. And so I'm like, I could go down the block and this n this nigga can see me and he'll he'll know who I am. I have no idea who he is. You know what I'm saying? It's just weird for me to think like it. Like I like the area, it's a cool area. There's a lot to do here. The th ⁓ NBA team thirty minutes away. Like it's cool. But and da Yeah, OKC is the Thunder. We're we're thirty minutes away from I know, but still though, still though, I can go watch a game. It's cool.
Yowan: Yeah, I feel you. I'm being a team, hold on, put it in the- Man, your enemies? Your enemies? Yeah. Yeah.
DJ: ⁓ but th that like they're thirty minutes away. Dallas is three hours away. Like we're in a good little spot. But I'm just like, man, like I don't it's just weird, you know.
Yowan: Nah, I you, it's real man, I ain't gonna lie. Especially with yellow spray.
DJ: And and low key bro low key I was in my feelings a little bit too. It was just one of like my bad days. You know how like we don't really trip and show our show our emotions too much. But bruh, that was just one of them days where I just couldn't hold it in for some reason. And I just I was low key in my feelings a little bit, but like I don't think I I don't think I hate it here as much as I made it sound. Like I'm cool with living here. But like it is just weird sometimes. And then trying to find a job just sucks right now.
Yowan: It's normal. It's normal. Yeah. It's normal.
DJ: And but I was thinking, I was like, man, I don't even wanna like obviously I've I've like joked with you about moving, but like I didn't really want to bring it up again because I was like, I don't want him to feel like I'm actually pressing him to move. But I have been thinking a lot about it. I'm like, bro, what if we just lived in the same city, worked at the same job?
Yowan: That would be fun. I ain't gonna lie. It'd be fun to me.
DJ: But I told her, I'm like, 'Cause my wife, she's ⁓ her ⁓ her ⁓ she has like anxiety and depression like pretty bad sometimes and I told her I was like, I would like to move to Olympia but I know it'd be hard for me and it'd be hard for you because the weather and the the seasons up there are just s so messed up when it comes to like your your mood and stuff, you know.
Yowan: and
DJ: And I was like, So we probably wouldn't be able to move to Washington or the or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. But I was like, Where could we move? That'd be closer.
Yowan: Sorry, I don't really know what she said.
DJ: I don't know. I mean we don't really we haven't really thought. We just we
Yowan: K-K-K-K-
DJ: You said what? I know he is. You told me that. Is he married now? Did they get did they get married?
Yowan: We didn't. And they got married. They're married on paper. But they would get married, they would go in Mexico. They would get married in Mexico.
DJ: Okay, so he is married. Dang, let's go. I'm gonna have to in twenty twenty seven, right?
Yowan: Hopefully I can get my paper right that time.
DJ: No, me too.
Yowan: See if I my picture right, I'm going to try and make it. I ain't trying to miss my, I ain't trying to miss my, I don't like to miss my brother's weddings, man. Especially yours, man, I'm alive. Do you know what I was asking Robin to borrow me money? I was asking, yeah, was asking Robin, please, like, can you borrow me Robin money, man? I just want to go there. And he was well at the same time. I think I was working at the same time. It was multiple things that was trying to make me.
DJ: I'm I'm probably gonna try anyway, bro. Really?
Yowan: I was stopping. Money was one part. I was like, hey, Robin, please. Can you help me work and pay? I think she was like, oh, I can just give you that. I was trying to find money over there, also, things like this. What happened again? Hey, man, I don't know. No, we can't do that, man. I can't, I can't, I I can't, I know. You can't do that.
DJ: Bro, you should have just asked me. Telling you. Yes. Pass is the past, but you should have straight up because I would have been like, Hey, you're here to tomorrow, your flights tomorrow. Get ready.
Yowan: And I think maybe it was at a time when I even like, it was probably recently when I even stopped working, When I, was like, cause I didn't have my work position, but I have my work position later on. Let me take my phone. I almost touched your phone. Do you know how French people that work with me? Yeah, I'm from Congo. now the airports want to die. Bro.
DJ: Mm. Mm-hmm. Really? Like like white people or ⁓ black people?
Yowan: ⁓ my gosh, bro.
DJ: You good, bruh. It's straight, it's straight.
Yowan: bucks life is life but look no it's gonna be fun because if we was living right next to us or for somehow one time me and you were living close then now we can think about having like a little like maybe depends on how much we go but even if we don't look you invest first you know what i'm we can have like can you can you can you can hear me yeah we can have like a loose two-door you know i'm saying like one room that we might rent
DJ: It is.
Yowan: We mix it, we get the Goku thing, know, that you show me the Goku Naruto. Hey, it's tough. We put this, you know what saying? We got our chair, you know what saying? We relax, we buy a couch, you know I'm saying? Put some couch, like a two good couch, like, and that's our safe zone. We call this our safe zone, you know what I'm saying? We get there, you know, and people in the city, if they want to be, if they have guests, have their thing. We just like, natural, we buy cameras.
DJ: Bro, that stuff was dope, huh? Telling you.
Yowan: Angles, you know I'm you have to
DJ: telling you, I've been I've dead I've been seriously thinking about it. I'm like where can where can I how c first of all, how can I convince you that it'd be a good idea? And how could we make it actually work? That's like things I've genuinely been thinking about. But
Yowan: Yeah. Before even me and my wife were being here, I was talking to her. I was talking about moving. I didn't like this stick and how expensive this thing was and I wanted to detach myself for a second and then I felt like yeah, you know, women's bro, like especially with them. I can't take a family away from her. This is just, you know what saying? Like I feel sometimes I think, yeah.
DJ: Bro, I'll tell you. I will say this when it comes to affordability, Oklahoma is a very affordable state.
Yowan: compared to here. I know. You're to see 2-0-1 in a minute.
DJ: I'm just letting you know.
Yowan: I can join both... both of them?
DJ: Yeah, but I'd kick w I'd get off on one of ⁓ just so we don't have three cameras on.
Yowan: Let me get off your hook.
DJ: Alright.
Yowan: Hey, they say, they say recording stop. What they mean by that? Check if the recording keep going.
DJ: It is. Mine's so going. Bro, what the heck? Why is your camera not flipping now?
Yowan: community.
DJ: Yeah. I need this camera to flip though.
Yowan: Okay. Yeah, we might have to do it like this. I'll wait a second so my thing can't... But you can hear me good, right? Like this. yeah the b-ball basketball guy talked to me yeah I saw the message I I didn't log in yet to see his response but he asked me to talk about we should speak in French I told him my guy my brother
DJ: Ha ha
Yowan: More free. First and foremost, I'd to support the two givers but
DJ: What are you doing, bro?
Yowan: No, that's what I'm trying to explain. know, sometimes when you talk to an African guy, you gotta be really explicit, you know what saying? So... Me... Me friends... Me friends... They put it good there. Me friends speak English. Me speak French English. How you gonna speak French English?
DJ: read it. I read what you said to him. I put it in Google Translate. Reno. He said, he he responded and he said, ⁓ well that's okay. He said that's all right or something, he said.
Yowan: Yeah, but of course that's alright. What do mean? We know!
DJ: He said he said he said, ⁓ okay then or something like that.
Yowan: He texts me personally, he's doing great things for the country, he's exposing players and things like this.
DJ: Hey, that man got what? 15K followers? Gotta post us. She it.
Yowan: So I'm saying, send us something, man. Send us people. I'm going to talk to him. I say, I say, he talked to me. He's like, if I have a video or things like this that I want him to share, like, just let him know. I said, I bet. Share this with podcast. That's what I said, man. Bring us the 50k, man. We need that, man. They might not understand anything, but we need the support,
DJ: ⁓ Straight up. Straight up.
Yowan: So should we, should should we? Oh, let me see. Should we keep doing like, we?
DJ: Bro, your camera's blurry, but I don't know if it'll stay blurry like that.
Yowan: My look, okay? Yours is kinda pretty.
DJ: Okay, we'll leave it. We'll leave it. We'll just see how it goes in the recording.
Yowan: Okay, I'll talk like this. how it feels. We were saying what we saying before the thing cut off or like in general? Yes, I got 20%. We got to go fast now.
DJ: Okay. What were you saying? Sorry before I cut you off again. I was talking about Darren Fox. But we can what what Okay, we can segue in. I'll ask you about the World Cup and what you think about it. Unless you don't want me to, we can keep talking about Darren Fox and then.
Yowan: Okay. No, we can talk about a workout.
DJ: Okay, I'll just ask you, so the last few games of the World Cup happened recently, championship happened today. What do you I'll say, you just you asked me so many questions today, I just gotta ask you before before we jump off. What do you think of the World Cup? The final was today, blah blah blah blah blah blah. All right.
Yowan: Okay. Yeah.
DJ: All right, I'll count us in and then I'll just hopefully it works. If not, they'll know we're just trying to segue.
Yowan: Okay.
DJ: All right, three, two, one. The NBA is a business at the end of the day, and he really just he wasn't doing his job, but the coach was, I think, scared of his j scared for his job at the same time. And that's why Darren Fox, in my opinion, was playing more than Dylan Harper. When it he when he should have never been playing more than Dylan Harper. And I think everybody knows that. But nah, man. So before before we cut this, before we jump off this ⁓ episode, I just wanted to ask you, because I know you ⁓ You a big football guy. And the last four matches of the World Cup have now passed. We know who the winners are. Spain. Spain with the dub over Argentina. France taking fourth place. England taking third place. What were your thoughts on the games? There was four games, I believe. I know you probably didn't get to watch much. You've been a busy man this week. But from what you saw, from the highlights, from what people were saying, what do you think about it, man?
Yowan: Yeah, football. Yeah. Well ⁓ going to the final a lot of people that I talked to was talking about like Messi was the nephew of the FIFA They said Messi is the nephew of the people just because saying that every game they're trying to give him fouls, trying to give him a penalty and things like this. So, and it was a big favorite. I wanted Argentina to win the game, right? And I know at one point when the friends got eliminated, was, I think in Bapig I scored eight goals and Messi I scored eight. There was both I think I ate, if I'm not wrong. Then the...
DJ: A Yep.
Yowan: And then they played against England for the third place. Then I think Mbappe scored. Did Mbappe score a goal twice?
DJ: Yep, he had two.
Yowan: Cause it was a crazy game. was like Like 6-5 or something? 6-4 you see?
DJ: Six four, bro. And England England was putting belt to France, bro. I so I was asleep. I was asleep when the game started and I woke up, I said, Babe, put put the game on. Twenty minutes twenty minutes into the game, England had two goals. It was four ⁓ at halftime.
Yowan: to me. That's crazy. Yeah, it was a crazy game, bro. I was out working, people told me this. They gave me up like this, man. What's going on? Because France was favorite to win at all. So I was really surprised when they got that. Yeah. man, ⁓ I was talking about how...
DJ: Yes. But anyway, sorry, keep going. It was w Mm-hmm. Them in Spain.
Yowan: day there was a lot of my people was saying that they will do I had somebody make a prediction of the following and say it would be first go for Spain at the at the first half second half won't go for Argentina and then at the last minute of like 89 minutes penalty for Messi and then Argentina will win that's what I wanted to say but it was funny to see how people who was saying that but man Spain got a dub I ain't gonna lie to you, bro. When my African countries got out, man, yeah, I got out too, I was like, yeah, man, they got it, man. Like, it was just, cuz, cuz.
DJ: That's fair. Hey but bruh, half them people playing for ⁓ for France and Spain and even England are be African.
Yowan: That's another topic too for another episode. It's be crazy things that be happening. You know what saying? But yeah, man, shout out to Spain. They do what they gotta do. ⁓ Now we're gonna see, we're gonna get the, I thought definitely Mbappe now got the most goal, right? So.
DJ: Yeah, he's got the he's got the golden boot, bruh.
Yowan: has got this so ⁓ i know missy was emotional
DJ: He's they said he's the first player they said he's the first player ever in World Cup history to get back to back golden boots.
Yowan: Shout out to you man. Shout out to you Mbappe. I'm not a big Mbappe fan bro, I ain't gonna lie to you. But you know, it's tough and shout out to him but what's his teammates, what's his story, Oli whatever? Yeah Oli says like, what's going on man? Apparently he...
DJ: I don't know why. That's my guy right there. O Lise The man the man's the man sold them, bruh. He missed two wide open goals against England. Nah, but I know what you mean though. I know what you mean though. He was he was making it all happen. He was he was giving Messi's or Mbappé great assists like the whole time. So
Yowan: Well, as of you being me, then, yeah, it... ⁓ yeah, he was playing great the whole tournament. ⁓ But yeah, man, I really got no much to say about that World Cup, man. And one thing I will say is just now, and you can tell me if I'm wrong. There's a lot of things that happened in this World Cup that in my personal opinion was now, right? And it was a lot of money involved in things and even in picking. I will say in picking. to pass because you know making sure fans will come watch because I didn't understand how my personal my African countries would dominate almost the whole first half and just ended up losing in my mind was like and it's I heard a lot of people saying it was money involved talking about if some African countries were to pass they would have no money because we have no we have no fans that will come and watch the game so they will actually lose money and that's that's not subject or I can even call conspiracy. That's how you say it, conspiracy, yeah, so yeah, man, but what you got, what you got,
DJ: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Conspiracies. I just thought ⁓ first of all, big Mbappe guy. I love Mbappe. And I like Jude Bellingham. So it's cool to watch them play against each other. Teammates playing against each other. ⁓ and I will say this about Jude Bellingham, bro. He really surprised me because obviously he's a midfielder. He's not really the one scoring goals most of the time. But bro, he led England in goals in this World Cup. So I think he had seven. So that was great to watch. I thought that was pretty, pretty cool to watch England's run that they had. I thought Mbappe. I really wish that they would have played in the final, but they played the winners. They played Spain. And Spain, bro, Spain, when it came to those last two games, you know when when to to flip it to basketball real quick, you know when you're playing a team with one good player and you know the game plan is just don't let him score. Don't let him touch the ball and you win. Bro, Spain did that perfectly. I'm not saying that France only had one good player, because as we just mentioned, They're they were clearly stacked. ⁓ same with same with Argentina. It's good good teams, but when they eliminate that one player, it just shows you how different the game can be, even in even in soccer or football. And that's what Spain did perfectly the last two games. Their defense was unbelievable. Argentina didn't even get a shot, Yowan They didn't even shoot until extra time.
Yowan: Yes. Yeah. Yeah, that was crazy. I saw that. That was crazy. This one was crazy when I saw that.
DJ: And I will say Spain had control of the ball obviously like the whole game. I looked at it, they I don't know what they finished with, how many passes they end up finishing the game with, but at one point in extra time it was seven hundred and twenty passes to Argentina's three hundred and twenty passes.
Yowan: ⁓ my, look at the gap. Crazy.
DJ: So they're gonna win. ⁓ it was just it was just a matter of when, you know. But I I really enjoyed it. It was really the first World Cup personally that I've ever like fully sat through and watched. ⁓ I watched almost ⁓ there's I probably watched eighty five to ninety percent of the games. So it was it was awesome. I loved it. I'm super happy that I was able to to do that. ⁓ and yeah, bro, I mean I
Yowan: Yeah.
DJ: I'm a very big Mbappe fan, even before the World Cup, because I watched La Liga, like I told you, and I've just I've always liked watching them play. So I think it was it was just awesome to see different players from even like teammates, you know, teammates from other countries playing against each other, representing their own countries. ⁓ and still seeing the competitiveness that doesn't get taken out of it. My my father in law related it to an all star game, but they're actually trying. It's the best players in the world playing against each other and they're putting in everything they have to win because it just means that much to them. And I thought that was just it was just the greatest thing I think you can watch is is people actually competing and and still being what's the word? I guess good sports and still even cheering for their teammates after they maybe were were beat by them, you know? So I think that that's it was just really cool to see how really
Yowan: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
DJ: that event, how how much it truly does bring the world together, is pretty crazy. So so but I loved it, man. I had a great time watching the World Cup and I I plan on going to the World Cup in twenty thirty with my boy Yoan. We hidden up Morocco. We already talked about this.
Yowan: Yeah, that is true. Yeah, 100%. My bad. Yeah, for sure. 2030. Man, why I'm covering like this,
DJ: Nah, you straight man. But nah, you you got anything else you wanna you want to mention before we hop off?
Yowan: Man, it's been a long week. ⁓ I just wanna... cough. Yeah, but you know, ⁓ yeah, man, I would say like, so far, it's episode, we've been recording a lot of episodes, and I just wanna bring it back, ⁓ the fact that I'm really enjoying doing this with you, you know? ⁓ It's an honor, you know, being able to have people in your life that you can see and just have and just create conversation, you know, sharing knowledge and thoughts on everything and the news and creating things that happen right now. It's like, it's my escape room. It's my free zone. You know what saying? Where I can just come and talk to my brother and and you know, enjoying the time. A lot of people can say they have that in their life. And I feel like I know what we're doing and we have goals to do it. But it's always good to remember that it's a blessing to be a boy in a position to do what we're doing right now. I just want to put it out there. Yeah. I'm glad that we're doing it and I'm glad I'm doing it with you, my brother. So yeah, shout out to you, brother. Yeah.
