[0:07] Speaker 1: You're just in time for the Bible answer Man broadcast
[0:10] Speaker 1: with Hank Anagraph, the radio outreach of the Christian Research Institute.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Our purpose here at CRII is to equip Christians to
[0:19] Speaker 1: pursue sound doctrine, to discern truth and error, and to
[0:23] Speaker 1: become faithful disciples of Christ because life and truth matter.
[0:28] Speaker 1: For more information, to order resources or donate, call eight
[0:32] Speaker 1: eight eight seven thousand CROI or go online to equip
[0:37] Speaker 1: dot org. The following program was pre recorded. Now here's
[0:42] Speaker 1: the President of the Christian Research Institute, Hank Canagraph.
[0:46] Speaker 2: Favorite March Randy is always great to be in studio
[0:49] Speaker 2: as we answer your questions throughout the United States and Canada.
[0:52] Speaker 2: The importance of a central Christian doctrine can hardly be overstated.
[0:57] Speaker 2: To begin with these or the very doctrines that form
[1:01] Speaker 2: the line of demarcation between the Kingdom of Christ and
[1:06] Speaker 2: the Kingdom of the Cults, a central Christian doctrine is
[1:11] Speaker 2: the north star by which the course of Christianity is set.
[1:17] Speaker 2: As the north star is an unchanging reference point, a
[1:22] Speaker 2: point by which sailors safely guided their ships. So a
[1:27] Speaker 2: central Christian doctrine has safely guided the Church through the
[1:31] Speaker 2: doctrinal storms that have sought to sink it. Essential Christian
[1:36] Speaker 2: doctrine is the foundation on which the Gospel of Jesus
[1:42] Speaker 2: Christ rests, from his deity to the es catological certainty
[1:47] Speaker 2: that He will appear again a second time to judge
[1:51] Speaker 2: the living and the dead. Assential Christian doctrine is foundational
[1:55] Speaker 2: to the Gospel. All other religious constructs they comper, they confuse,
[2:02] Speaker 2: they contradict asential Christian doctrine. Muslims, for example, dogmatically denounce
[2:08] Speaker 2: the doctrine of Christ's unique deity as the unforgivable sin
[2:13] Speaker 2: of shirk. They readily affirm the sinlessness of Christ, but
[2:18] Speaker 2: adamantly deny his sacrifice on the cross, as well as
[2:23] Speaker 2: his subsequent resurrection as the only hope of salvation. In
[2:29] Speaker 2: order to internalize what you believe, in other words, essential
[2:34] Speaker 2: Christian doctrine the main and plain things of the Bible,
[2:39] Speaker 2: I've organized them around a memorable acronym. It is the
[2:44] Speaker 2: acronym doctrine. To master why you believe what you believe,
[2:49] Speaker 2: I've organized the supporting evidence into easy to assimilate points.
[2:56] Speaker 2: Check it out on the web at equip die, or
[3:00] Speaker 2: let's go right to the phone lines, a lot of
[3:02] Speaker 2: you hanging on. First up as Pam. She's listening on
[3:05] Speaker 2: the web in due west, South Carolina.
[3:08] Speaker 3: Hi, Pam, Hello Hank. I'm so glad to talk to you.
[3:12] Speaker 4: Uh.
[3:13] Speaker 3: I just discovered your ministry about four or five months ago,
[3:16] Speaker 3: and I have learned so much. But I just have
[3:19] Speaker 3: become a Christian I guess maybe two years ago. Oh well,
[3:22] Speaker 3: and you have really clear some things up. But one
[3:26] Speaker 3: question on Proverbs twenty seven, verse fourteen, where it says
[3:31] Speaker 3: a blessing given loudly and cheerfully in the morning, why
[3:36] Speaker 3: is that considered a curse? I don't understand that verse.
[3:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, remember that proverbs are truisms, they're generally true. And
[3:46] Speaker 2: what is being communicated in Proverbs at this point by
[3:50] Speaker 2: Solomon is that if a man loudly and the emphasis
[3:54] Speaker 2: there is on the word loudly, blesses his neighbor early
[3:58] Speaker 2: in the morning, it will be taken as a curse. Well,
[4:02] Speaker 2: why would that be? Well? Think about it. Timing, we
[4:05] Speaker 2: might say, is everything the wrong time for a wonderful
[4:12] Speaker 2: action is still a woeful thing. You don't want to
[4:18] Speaker 2: curse someone loudly, nor do you want to bless someone loudly,
[4:24] Speaker 2: particularly if it's early.
[4:25] Speaker 5: In the morning, blessing as a curse.
[4:28] Speaker 2: Right, No, No, I'm just saying either case, if you're
[4:30] Speaker 2: doing something loudly in the morning, it's going to be
[4:33] Speaker 2: taken as a curse. And I think this is related
[4:37] Speaker 2: to what you read in Ecclesiastes. There's a time for everything,
[4:42] Speaker 2: a season for every activity under heaven. A time to
[4:46] Speaker 2: be born, a time to die, a time to plant,
[4:50] Speaker 2: a time to uproot, a time to kill, a time
[4:52] Speaker 2: to steal, a time to tear down, a time to build,
[4:55] Speaker 2: a time to weep, a time to laugh. There's a
[4:58] Speaker 2: time for everything. Of that, of course, has to be contextualized.
[5:02] Speaker 2: You can, for example, lie, but only if it's a
[5:05] Speaker 2: greater good. In other words, rayhab purpose to lie to
[5:10] Speaker 2: save the Israelites from certain destruction. So the greater good
[5:15] Speaker 2: was the saving of life. So there's a time for everything.
[5:18] Speaker 2: If you do something at the wrong time, it still
[5:21] Speaker 2: will be considered a curse. That's the point.
[5:24] Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I just didn't understand that, But you've
[5:27] Speaker 3: cleared it up for me. And may God continue blessing you.
[5:31] Speaker 3: I really appreciate and love listening to you.
[5:34] Speaker 2: Thank you Pam, appreciate your call. And I was going
[5:36] Speaker 2: to say, what's probably going on as well, is there's
[5:39] Speaker 2: some reason to suspect the motive here. It's probably a hypocrite,
[5:43] Speaker 2: someone going to great lengths to create the impression of
[5:48] Speaker 2: friendship when in reality there's no real friendship intended. There's
[5:52] Speaker 2: a lot we can read into the possible meaning of
[5:55] Speaker 2: that proverb. Want to go back to the phone lines now,
[5:57] Speaker 2: talk to Robert in Sacramento, California, and.
[6:00] Speaker 6: Yeah, Hi Robert, Hi, Hey, thanks for taking my call.
[6:03] Speaker 6: My call revolves around the topics of a divorce and remarriage. Yeah,
[6:10] Speaker 6: so about five years ago, while I was still an unbeliever,
[6:14] Speaker 6: I obtained a divorce, and from what I understand from
[6:18] Speaker 6: talking to my pastor, that was under illegitimate grounds for divorce.
[6:23] Speaker 6: I mean, there was any sexual reasons. We just decided
[6:27] Speaker 6: we're no longer compatible and want to work on it.
[6:31] Speaker 6: So we decided to be divorced. And then we were
[6:36] Speaker 6: divorced about several months later. You know, we talked a
[6:41] Speaker 6: little bit about or I approached the subject of reconciling.
[6:45] Speaker 6: She wasn't interested. And you know, about a year after that,
[6:49] Speaker 6: and so I became a believer at point, what obligations
[6:55] Speaker 6: do I have to her if any, in terms of
[6:58] Speaker 6: like trying to reconcile and marriage.
[7:00] Speaker 2: Is she remarried, she is.
[7:03] Speaker 6: Not remarried, and she is still an unbeliever.
[7:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think as long as the door to reconciliation
[7:10] Speaker 2: remains open, I would pursue reconciliation. I would do it
[7:15] Speaker 2: in a way that's glorifying to God, because as a
[7:18] Speaker 2: new believer, you are a new creation in Christ. In fact,
[7:23] Speaker 2: as a new believer, when you're baptized, you're symbolizing that
[7:26] Speaker 2: you were buried to your old life, raised in newness
[7:29] Speaker 2: of life through His resurrection power. And that needs to
[7:32] Speaker 2: be manifest to your ex wife that there has been
[7:37] Speaker 2: a change in you, a change that is not just
[7:40] Speaker 2: articulated by the words you speak, but a change that
[7:45] Speaker 2: is demonstrated by both your life and your love. So again,
[7:50] Speaker 2: I would pursue reconciliation. Obviously, you cannot force it. You
[7:54] Speaker 2: can't force anyone else to reconcile. Reconciliation, at the end
[7:58] Speaker 2: of the day, is always going to be a two ways.
[8:00] Speaker 2: It takes someone that is willing to forgive and someone
[8:03] Speaker 2: that is wanting to be forgiven. If those two aspects aren't,
[8:06] Speaker 2: their reconciliation doesn't take place. But I think that as
[8:10] Speaker 2: long as the door to reconciliation remains open, I would
[8:15] Speaker 2: pursue that. Once that door is closed, if it's closed
[8:19] Speaker 2: through death or remarriage, well then you can unscramble the egg.
[8:24] Speaker 2: But right now there's still a possibility, and I think
[8:27] Speaker 2: as a Christian, you want to pursue that possibility.
[8:31] Speaker 6: Okay, from my understanding, it's contrary to marry a non believer.
[8:37] Speaker 6: Now that I am a believer. How do I make
[8:41] Speaker 6: sense of that?
[8:42] Speaker 2: Well? Yeah, I mean I think you could use that
[8:44] Speaker 2: as a sort of an obstacle or an excuse for
[8:48] Speaker 2: failing to reconcile. I don't think at this point, having
[8:53] Speaker 2: been married to your ex wife, that I would look
[8:56] Speaker 2: at that as a significant obstacle. I would more look
[9:01] Speaker 2: at the possibility of having her heart changed, because look,
[9:05] Speaker 2: if her heart isn't changed, there isn't going to be
[9:08] Speaker 2: reconciliation anyway, and likely only reconciliation will take place if
[9:15] Speaker 2: she becomes yoked to Christ and as a result of
[9:18] Speaker 2: that sees the possibility of being reoked to you.
[9:23] Speaker 6: Okay, So if I now it sounds like the ball
[9:27] Speaker 6: is in my court to pursue reconciliation. Is there any
[9:31] Speaker 6: sort of like time frame I need to give her,
[9:33] Speaker 6: like maybe write her a letter, give her some time
[9:36] Speaker 6: to think about it. And after Safety responds and I
[9:40] Speaker 6: understand I should work towards reconciliation. However, she says, you know,
[9:45] Speaker 6: I'm not interested. It's over between us. What would my
[9:48] Speaker 6: stance be at that point, Well, I.
[9:50] Speaker 2: Think this is a fluid situation. There's going to be
[9:52] Speaker 2: all kinds of converging factors, and as a result of that,
[9:55] Speaker 2: I think it's ill advised for me to give you
[9:58] Speaker 2: specific detail advice. If she does this, I'll do this.
[10:03] Speaker 2: If she does this, I'll do that. I think that
[10:05] Speaker 2: would be a mistake on my part. I think what
[10:08] Speaker 2: is necessary is someone who can deal with you specifically
[10:13] Speaker 2: in a very fluid situation, which is to say, within
[10:17] Speaker 2: the context of a church, A pastor or gifted Christian
[10:23] Speaker 2: laymen who are expert at dealing in these kinds of
[10:27] Speaker 2: circumstances would be a great deal of help to you.
[10:30] Speaker 2: It's analogous to having boots on the ground, people that
[10:34] Speaker 2: love you, that are a support network that can help
[10:37] Speaker 2: you through a very difficult situation. I can give you
[10:40] Speaker 2: general principles, but getting into the specificity I think would
[10:43] Speaker 2: be dangerous because again it's a fluid situation, which requires
[10:47] Speaker 2: counselors that are with you in that fluid situation.
[10:51] Speaker 6: I understand. Thank you so much for your time and
[10:54] Speaker 6: your help.
[10:54] Speaker 4: Appreciate it up. Let you you got it.
[10:56] Speaker 2: Thank you so much for your call as well.

[14:15] Speaker 1: in the making and based on two decades of research

[14:24] Speaker 1: what is surely the most important question facing our world.

[14:32] Speaker 1: Hank counters the contentions of the Bible attackers and clearly
[14:36] Speaker 1: shows that belief in the Holy Scriptures is not a

[15:09] Speaker 1: and your host and canagraph.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Andy. You want to go
[15:13] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines now, I talk to Andrew.
[15:16] Speaker 2: He's listening in Saint Louis, Missouri. Hi Andrew, Hi, how
[15:20] Speaker 2: are you. I'm good, good talking to you.
[15:22] Speaker 7: They're talking to you too. Me and my mom have
[15:24] Speaker 7: both the Bible answer.
[15:26] Speaker 2: Books, so oh great, Thanks Andrew.
[15:30] Speaker 5: I had a question.
[15:30] Speaker 7: Do you know that show Ghost Hunters?
[15:32] Speaker 2: Yes?
[15:34] Speaker 7: Do you think that things are actually happening or do
[15:38] Speaker 7: they plant stuff for the media, because I thought when
[15:41] Speaker 7: people died they either go to heaventerpurgatory or are they
[15:45] Speaker 7: just like demons messing with people.
[15:48] Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. From a Biblical perspective, absent from
[15:51] Speaker 2: the body is present with the Lord, or as Jesus
[15:55] Speaker 2: Christ depicted in Luke sixty and being in a place
[15:58] Speaker 2: of torment awaiting the time that Jesus Christ returns. So
[16:01] Speaker 2: the notion that the spirits of human beings can come
[16:05] Speaker 2: back to this time space continuum and trouble people is
[16:10] Speaker 2: mythological there's no biblical basis for it whatsoever. So from
[16:15] Speaker 2: our perspective, ghosts or poltergeist are a figment of people's
[16:20] Speaker 2: fertile imagination. And you know, of course the media exploits
[16:23] Speaker 2: it with movies like Ghost Hunters, and you know, all
[16:27] Speaker 2: kinds of sensationalistic television programs and specials and so forth.
[16:31] Speaker 2: But the reality is there's no warrant for this biblically,
[16:35] Speaker 2: So as people living in a biblical worldview, we reject
[16:38] Speaker 2: the notion of ghosts.
[16:40] Speaker 5: Okay, cool, fair enough, fair enough.
[16:44] Speaker 2: Okay, appreciate your call back to the phone lines. We'll
[16:47] Speaker 2: talk next to Brian in Valencia, California.
[16:51] Speaker 4: Hi, Brian, Hi, I just had a quick question about
[16:56] Speaker 4: the woman that Jesus met at the well in John's
[16:59] Speaker 4: Goods in chapter four. Yeah, John wrote that she was
[17:03] Speaker 4: a Samaritan woman and she'd asked Jesus flipper the business
[17:08] Speaker 4: was being a Jew talking to her as a Samaritan.
[17:11] Speaker 4: There's two things. One usually guys that correct me if
[17:15] Speaker 4: I'm wrong. Didn't really have any dealings or public speakings
[17:18] Speaker 4: with women. And secondly, Jews, as she stated, to't that
[17:22] Speaker 4: much connection with Samaritans. But she mentioned later on that
[17:28] Speaker 4: something about Jacob being her father and not being her
[17:31] Speaker 4: well that she was at Where am I missing the
[17:34] Speaker 4: connection between her having validity in her claim stating that
[17:38] Speaker 4: was her father as well well.
[17:40] Speaker 2: First of all, I think you've assessed the situation correctly.
[17:43] Speaker 2: I think it's right to say that there's a point
[17:47] Speaker 2: being made here, that point being for a Samaritan to
[17:51] Speaker 2: speak of Jacob as our father would have been offensive
[17:57] Speaker 2: to an ancient Jew, an ancient Jew who viewed his
[18:03] Speaker 2: or herself as the true children of Jacob. While the
[18:07] Speaker 2: Samaritans were considered an impure people or half breeds. You
[18:12] Speaker 2: have to remember how they came about with the exile
[18:15] Speaker 2: and annihilation of the Northern Kingdom. What happened was there
[18:19] Speaker 2: were some people who were left, and they were generally
[18:24] Speaker 2: considered by the Assyrians to be dregs of society. The
[18:27] Speaker 2: Assyrians then repopulated the Northern Kingdom were that territory, and
[18:33] Speaker 2: as a result of interbreeding you have the Samaritans. So
[18:36] Speaker 2: from a Jewish standpoint, the Samaritans were considered nothing but dogs.
[18:41] Speaker 2: Not only that, but ancient civilizations, including the Jewish civilization,
[18:48] Speaker 2: put women on a substandard level. In other words, they
[18:53] Speaker 2: were on the lowest level of the socioeconomic ladder. But
[18:58] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ rem member sees things as they are. He
[19:03] Speaker 2: is the creator of male and female. He is the
[19:07] Speaker 2: one who inspired Paul's words that in Christ there's neither
[19:12] Speaker 2: male nor female. There's neither slave nor free, and there's
[19:17] Speaker 2: neither Jew nor Greek. So from Christ's perspective, no problem
[19:22] Speaker 2: whatsoever speaking to a woman, nor does he consider her
[19:29] Speaker 2: anything less. In fact, in his words, he is an
[19:33] Speaker 2: essence breaking down all of the stereotypes, because if you
[19:36] Speaker 2: look at the content of what he's saying, she's wondering
[19:40] Speaker 2: whether you worship in a templean garrism or whether you
[19:43] Speaker 2: worship in a temple in Jerusalem, and the temple not
[19:47] Speaker 2: built by human hands, ironically, is standing in front of
[19:51] Speaker 2: her right.
[19:52] Speaker 4: And that's why he said that you guys don't know
[19:55] Speaker 4: what you worship, but we worship what we do know.
[19:58] Speaker 4: My question is, so, is it because of what Assyria
[20:01] Speaker 4: had done while taking occupancy of the Northern Kingdom? Does
[20:05] Speaker 4: she have I mean, not that it really matters. Is
[20:07] Speaker 4: this something that caught my eye? Does she have validity
[20:12] Speaker 4: in saying that this is my father as well? Or
[20:14] Speaker 4: is it just because a mutilation of tradition.
[20:18] Speaker 2: No, she's got absolute right to say that. In the
[20:21] Speaker 2: truth of all censes, remember Jacob, his name was changed
[20:25] Speaker 2: to Israel, and he had twelve tribes, and Jesus Christ
[20:27] Speaker 2: is of the tribe of Jacob through lineage. Jesus Christ, however,
[20:33] Speaker 2: is true Israel, and true Israel is always reckoned, not
[20:39] Speaker 2: by race, but rather by relationship. So the Jews who
[20:45] Speaker 2: viewed Samaritans as dogs or half breeds were simply wrong.
[20:50] Speaker 2: They were no more dogs or half breeds than Raeb was.
[20:54] Speaker 2: Rahab was a Canaanite, Ruth was a Moa Bite, the
[20:59] Speaker 2: arch enemy of Israel. And yet in the lineage of
[21:02] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, why not by ethnicity, but rather by relationship.
[21:08] Speaker 2: And this is the thing that many people miss. In
[21:11] Speaker 2: the Old Testament, people are related to God as a
[21:16] Speaker 2: result of spirituality, not in terms of genealogy. Means it's faith, Yes,
[21:24] Speaker 2: it's always a means of faith. Yeah. In fact, look,
[21:26] Speaker 2: if you look at the I think it's a last
[21:28] Speaker 2: verse in Esther chapter eight, but I don't remember off
[21:31] Speaker 2: the top of my head. If you go to the
[21:32] Speaker 2: last verse, you will see that the people are looking
[21:36] Speaker 2: at Esther as she is being sovereignly raised up to
[21:40] Speaker 2: save the Jews from certain destruction under Hayman. And as
[21:43] Speaker 2: they look on, they see how God has sovereignly used Esther.
[21:47] Speaker 2: And what the text tells us is that on that
[21:51] Speaker 2: day many different people from many different nations became Jews.
[21:56] Speaker 2: Well how do they do that? They didn't do that
[21:59] Speaker 2: by changing their birth mother. They did that because they
[22:03] Speaker 2: believed in Yahweh, the God of Viscrael, and therefore they
[22:07] Speaker 2: were brought into all the types and shadows pointing forward
[22:10] Speaker 2: to Christ.
[22:11] Speaker 4: As Paul I think said, one is not a Jew
[22:14] Speaker 4: outwardly where the circumcision is done by man's hands, but
[22:17] Speaker 4: done by the hand of God.
[22:19] Speaker 2: On the heart precisely. Yes, yes, not the circumcision of
[22:23] Speaker 2: the flesh, but the circumcision of the heart. Yeah.
[22:25] Speaker 4: I find it interesting. He never rebuked her before making
[22:28] Speaker 4: that claim, but he challenged her and what she worshiped. Yes,
[22:32] Speaker 4: thank you for your time.
[22:33] Speaker 2: Hank, Hey, you got it, and thank you for your
[22:35] Speaker 2: insights as well. Appreciate your call. Let's go back to
[22:38] Speaker 2: the phone lines. Talk to Ezekiel. He's listening in Lincoln, Nebraska. Hi, Ezekiel, Hi,
[22:44] Speaker 2: how you doing, egg, I'm doing well, Thank you.
[22:47] Speaker 5: Hey. My question is how can you witness to a
[22:50] Speaker 5: person that's got Alzheimer's. She's in her eighties, her relatives
[22:58] Speaker 5: go to a Christian church, but she was only involved,
[23:03] Speaker 5: you know, as religiously, not not as a believer.
[23:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, well, a couple of things. First of all, treat
[23:09] Speaker 2: her with love and dignity and respect, care for in
[23:13] Speaker 2: all ways. Testify to her by your life and by
[23:17] Speaker 2: your love. It may be that she cannot remember or
[23:21] Speaker 2: recognize your words, but she can sense and feel and
[23:25] Speaker 2: experience your love. As far as a relationship to the
[23:29] Speaker 2: Lord is concerned, Also, remember that anyone that desires a
[23:34] Speaker 2: relationship with the Lord, the Lord knows about that, He
[23:38] Speaker 2: knows the intense of the heart, and he will never
[23:41] Speaker 2: cast that person away. So I don't think that we
[23:44] Speaker 2: can presume to be the judge. What we can presume
[23:47] Speaker 2: to do is be faithful in our interactions with anyone,
[23:51] Speaker 2: regardless of their condition.
[23:54] Speaker 5: I think, now just quit. If a person you know
[23:57] Speaker 5: like she has Alzheimer's, does she need to urbally confess,
[24:03] Speaker 5: you know, do the confession of faith in order to
[24:07] Speaker 5: be saved? Or is that you know, totally out because
[24:11] Speaker 5: she's got that disease.
[24:14] Speaker 2: Well, remember, Christianity is not a magical religion where you
[24:18] Speaker 2: have to have exactly the right incantation and then you're saved.
[24:23] Speaker 2: That's not the Christian worldview at all. You are saved
[24:27] Speaker 2: by God's grace through faith on account of Jesus Christ.
[24:30] Speaker 2: And you recognize always that it is Jesus Christ that
[24:33] Speaker 2: knows the heart. We look on the exterior. God knows
[24:36] Speaker 2: the heart. We cannot bring into factoring every single converging
[24:42] Speaker 2: condition in a person's life, but God can do that.
[24:45] Speaker 2: And so we leave that person in the hands of
[24:48] Speaker 2: an infinitely just and infinitely merciful God, knowing that he
[24:52] Speaker 2: will not reject anyone that wanted a relationship with him.
[24:58] Speaker 2: We can't sort it all o out here, but in
[25:00] Speaker 2: the greatest size, with people from every tongue and tribe
[25:03] Speaker 2: of nation, we will see that the judge of Heaven
[25:07] Speaker 2: and Earth does right. And we will then say, oh,
[25:11] Speaker 2: my goodness, he was able to take into consideration every
[25:16] Speaker 2: single converging factor. His justice is absolutely pure, pristine, and
[25:22] Speaker 2: you will glory in his righteousness in that day.
[25:26] Speaker 5: All right, thank you very much.
