[0:07] Speaker 1: You're just in time for the Bible answer Man broadcast
[0:10] Speaker 1: with Hank Canagraph, the radio outreach of the Christian Research Institute.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Our purpose here at CRII is to equip Christians to
[0:19] Speaker 1: provide Biblical answers to life's most important questions, to read
[0:23] Speaker 1: the Bible for all it's worth, and counter the teachings
[0:26] Speaker 1: of cults and world religions that deviate from the plumb
[0:30] Speaker 1: line of God's Word, because life and truth matter. For
[0:35] Speaker 1: more information, to order resources or donate, call eight eight
[0:38] Speaker 1: eight seven thousand CROI, or go online to equip dot org.
[0:44] Speaker 1: That's equip dot org. The following program was pre recorded.
[0:50] Speaker 1: Now here's the President of the Christian Research Institute, Hank Canigraph.
[0:55] Speaker 2: And thank you for what Randy. It is absolutely incredible
[0:58] Speaker 2: to think that this is the first of June, the
[1:02] Speaker 2: sixth month of the year. The year is flying by,
[1:08] Speaker 2: and this is the most critical month of our fiscal year.
[1:13] Speaker 2: It's the end of our fiscal year, and so I
[1:15] Speaker 2: want to take a moment to speak to those who
[1:18] Speaker 2: support the ministry prayer fully and financially, and as I do,
[1:22] Speaker 2: I want to invite others to consider supporting us financially
[1:28] Speaker 2: as well. The role that those who support this ministry
[1:32] Speaker 2: have played in the ministry has been absolutely critical, and
[1:37] Speaker 2: now it could be more crucial than ever before. Let
[1:43] Speaker 2: me briefly explain just two reasons why why I believe
[1:49] Speaker 2: that your help today could be pivotal to the battles
[1:53] Speaker 2: that we fight on an ongoing basis. Well, first, it
[1:58] Speaker 2: will come as no surprise that Ceri's mission of equipping
[2:01] Speaker 2: Christians to think and to live christianly is crucial. This
[2:08] Speaker 2: mission and all of our outreaches are arguably more important
[2:13] Speaker 2: right now than ever before. And I say that because
[2:17] Speaker 2: current trends in the US, in Canada, indeed much of
[2:21] Speaker 2: the Western world point to a protracted civilizational suicide. And
[2:28] Speaker 2: where once a nation largely grounded in biblical truth could
[2:33] Speaker 2: effectively stem the tide, now biblical literacy has dangerously evaporated.
[2:41] Speaker 2: Consider the fact that fewer than half of all American
[2:46] Speaker 2: adults can name the Four Gospels. Many professing Christians cannot
[2:53] Speaker 2: even identify more than two or three of the Disciples.
[2:59] Speaker 2: More than half of all Americans cannot name five of
[3:04] Speaker 2: the Ten Commandments. Twelve percent of adults, well, they believe
[3:10] Speaker 2: that Joan of arc was Noah's wife, and a survey
[3:13] Speaker 2: of graduating high school seniors revealed that more than fifty
[3:17] Speaker 2: percent thought that Sodom and Gomorrah were a husband and wife,
[3:23] Speaker 2: and a considerable number of respondents to one poll indicated
[3:26] Speaker 2: that Billy Graham preached the Sermon on the Mount. Now,
[3:30] Speaker 2: if the implications of this biblical illiteracy weren't so spiritually
[3:36] Speaker 2: and culturally deadly, those statistics would be worth while a
[3:41] Speaker 2: hearty laugh. Instead, their enough to make caring Christians weep.
[3:48] Speaker 2: And what really makes the current situation so acute is
[3:52] Speaker 2: that just as the spiritual pillars of our nation are
[3:57] Speaker 2: crumbling from the corrosis of acids of secularism, a cultural
[4:03] Speaker 2: storm lots of hurricane force winds is battering us on
[4:08] Speaker 2: all sides. In the US, for example, only three of
[4:12] Speaker 2: ten Americans are now practicing Christians. And so strident are
[4:18] Speaker 2: the efforts to silence the voices for traditional values that
[4:23] Speaker 2: even hinting that you don't support same sex marriage can
[4:29] Speaker 2: evoke howls of bigotry and hate mongering. And while the
[4:34] Speaker 2: assaults on decency, civility, and our religious freedoms are reaching
[4:42] Speaker 2: once unimagined levels, many Christians span a continuum from clueless,
[4:50] Speaker 2: to helplessness, to wanting to make a difference, but simply
[4:55] Speaker 2: not knowing how. And that takes me to the second
[4:59] Speaker 2: reason your support this month, the month of June, is
[5:03] Speaker 2: so vital and why I'm praying that this month you
[5:07] Speaker 2: can join other friends in making what we like to
[5:11] Speaker 2: refer to as an ABCD gift, an above and beyond
[5:17] Speaker 2: the call of duty gift, and that gift to help
[5:21] Speaker 2: meet a pressing financial need. June needs to witness a
[5:26] Speaker 2: genuine rally in giving if we are to avoid cutting
[5:30] Speaker 2: back on the ministries so many depend on, both here
[5:34] Speaker 2: and around the world. You see, just as the value
[5:39] Speaker 2: of vaccines increases during the outbreak of a deadly disease,
[5:43] Speaker 2: so also when assaults on our faith and freedom's mount,
[5:49] Speaker 2: the outreaches of the Christian Research Institute become that much
[5:54] Speaker 2: more crucial, and that in turn makes believers like you,
[5:58] Speaker 2: those who are willing to stand up to speak up,
[6:02] Speaker 2: that much more critical. Very simply, there's nothing that CIRI
[6:10] Speaker 2: does that would be possible without partners like you. From
[6:16] Speaker 2: broadcasts to podcasts, from the Christian Research Journal to ciri's
[6:21] Speaker 2: vast website, resources accessed from America to Zimbabwe, there's no
[6:26] Speaker 2: exaggeration to say that these would all quickly disappear without
[6:31] Speaker 2: friends like you. And again, because June is our second
[6:36] Speaker 2: most important month of the year, next to December, the
[6:39] Speaker 2: most important month of the fiscal year, because it's the
[6:43] Speaker 2: month that ends the fiscal year, We're praying for a
[6:47] Speaker 2: serious rally and outpouring of support. The thought of ever
[6:53] Speaker 2: having to curtail any of our outreaches is a painful thought,
[6:57] Speaker 2: especially when the need for these outreaches has never been greater,
[7:03] Speaker 2: and because an increasingly militant, intolerant, and hostile secularism would
[7:08] Speaker 2: love to silence us. I'll simply ask you to do
[7:11] Speaker 2: all that you can this month to help turn up
[7:14] Speaker 2: the volume for all that your partnership means at this
[7:19] Speaker 2: critical time as we strive to stand courageously for life
[7:24] Speaker 2: and truth. I am deeply grateful because of the challenge
[7:30] Speaker 2: we're facing. I'm praying for a real outpouring of support
[7:36] Speaker 2: and trusting I can hear from friends like you right
[7:39] Speaker 2: away in our stand together for life and truth. Check
[7:43] Speaker 2: it out on the webitquip dot org is simply write
[7:46] Speaker 2: me at box eighty five hundred, Charlotte, North Carolina, ZIP
[7:49] Speaker 2: code two eight two seven one. First up to day
[7:53] Speaker 2: John listening in Neptune, New Jersey. Hi, John, Hi, Heck,
[7:59] Speaker 2: how are you? I'm doing great?
[8:00] Speaker 1: How are you good?
[8:02] Speaker 3: Thanks? I have my question, Hank. I read in the Bible,
[8:06] Speaker 3: in you know, Psalms and Proverbs, you read a lot
[8:10] Speaker 3: about what it says fearing the Lord. Does it actually
[8:14] Speaker 3: mean being afraid or does it need something different?
[8:17] Speaker 2: No, it means reverential awe. And you're right. Solomon talks
[8:21] Speaker 2: often about the fear of the Lord. In fact, in
[8:25] Speaker 2: Proverbs one, verse seven, Solomon says that the fear of
[8:30] Speaker 2: the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. But fools despise
[8:34] Speaker 2: wisdom and instruction. So the fear of the Lord, the
[8:38] Speaker 2: reverential awe of God, is the beginning of knowledge. And
[8:43] Speaker 2: you think about the holiest man in Israel, Isaiah. He
[8:47] Speaker 2: gets one glimpse of the glory of God, and he
[8:50] Speaker 2: comes apart of the seams. Why because when we start
[8:54] Speaker 2: to understand or get a glimpse even of who God is,
[9:00] Speaker 2: everything changes. In fact, we're no longer fear things in
[9:06] Speaker 2: the traditional sense, because we know that that God loves
[9:10] Speaker 2: us so much that he has invited us into the
[9:13] Speaker 2: fellowship of the Trinity, a God that loves us that much,
[9:18] Speaker 2: cares for every single detail of our life. There's not
[9:23] Speaker 2: a single heir that falls from our head that He
[9:26] Speaker 2: does not know about it. That awe of God casts
[9:31] Speaker 2: out fear, and as Solomon says, it is the beginning
[9:35] Speaker 2: of knowledge. And that on the other hand, those that
[9:39] Speaker 2: do not have a reverential awe of God are those
[9:43] Speaker 2: that despise wisdom and instruction. So again, the fear of
[9:47] Speaker 2: the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of
[9:49] Speaker 2: the Lord occurs eleven times in the Book of Proverbs.
[9:53] Speaker 2: I'm very very grateful that you referenced the Book of Proverbs.
[9:59] Speaker 2: To refuse to the fear the Lord is to refuse
[10:02] Speaker 2: to acknowledge the Holy, the righteous, the loving character of
[10:08] Speaker 2: our God, to not trust and serve and worship him.
[10:13] Speaker 2: Now I should add there's also a debilitating kind of fear.
[10:18] Speaker 2: So words take on the meaning that the context allows
[10:23] Speaker 2: them to have. So this debilitating fear is a fear
[10:26] Speaker 2: which Christ rescues us from. In fact, the apostle John says,
[10:31] Speaker 2: there is no fear in love, but perfect love drives
[10:35] Speaker 2: out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The
[10:39] Speaker 2: one who fears is not made in perfect love. So
[10:42] Speaker 2: it's beautiful that the gospel writers tell us about a
[10:47] Speaker 2: debilitating fear and how we're rescued from that debilitating fear.
[10:53] Speaker 2: We'll be right back with more answers to your questions
[10:55] Speaker 2: right here on the Bible Answer Man Broadcast again. The
[10:58] Speaker 2: resources I talk about on the broadcast you can find

[11:04] Speaker 1: Every CRII outreach, our broadcast, podcast, website, resources, the Christian
[11:10] Speaker 1: Research Journal, and more is made possible only because of
[11:14] Speaker 1: friends like you. Your partnership matters. What kind of impact
[11:19] Speaker 1: has your partnership had an impact for time and for eternity.
[11:24] Speaker 1: Stand with Hank Hanagraph and the Christian Research Institute during

[11:48] Speaker 1: God bless you. We'll be back in just a moment
[11:52] Speaker 1: with more from Hank Hannagraph. Winston Churchill once declared you
[12:02] Speaker 1: may have to fight when there is no hope of victory,
[12:05] Speaker 1: because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.
[12:09] Speaker 1: Churchill sought to awaken those who were reluctant to fight
[12:12] Speaker 1: against the advancing Nazi war machine. Today, a spiritual battle
[12:17] Speaker 1: is taking place. Atheism advances in the West, and slavery
[12:21] Speaker 1: to secularity is imprisoning more and more hearts and minds
[12:25] Speaker 1: in the United States. For this reason, crii's ministry is critical,
[12:30] Speaker 1: but we need people willing to stand for truth along
[12:33] Speaker 1: with the financial provisions to accomplish its mission. Stand with
[12:37] Speaker 1: Hank Hanigraph and the Christian Research Institute during the month

[14:04] Speaker 4: Truth Matters, Yet, an encounter with Christians in the underground

[15:07] Speaker 1: Now back to the Bible answer Man broadcast and your
[15:10] Speaker 1: host and canagraph.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Thanks so much, Randy, and back to the phone lines.
[15:14] Speaker 2: We'll talk to John and New Albany, Indiana. Hi.
[15:18] Speaker 5: John, Hey, good afternoon.
[15:20] Speaker 2: Hang.
[15:20] Speaker 5: Thank you so much for your considered answers to our questions.
[15:23] Speaker 5: I hope God continues to strengthen you.
[15:25] Speaker 1: Brother.
[15:27] Speaker 5: I have a oh this is not a very weighty question,
[15:32] Speaker 5: but it's found in Acts eleven. That's the prophet Acvius
[15:35] Speaker 5: when he prophesies about a worldwide famine to the Saints.
[15:40] Speaker 5: The considered decision among the apostles was to take up
[15:45] Speaker 5: a collection from the outskirts of Judea and send money
[15:49] Speaker 5: to I guess to Jerusalem. And it just seems a
[15:53] Speaker 5: strange request one, what would giving money do in restraining
[15:59] Speaker 5: worldwide famine or severe famine? And two, it just seems
[16:04] Speaker 5: that in some sense that either they if there was
[16:12] Speaker 5: going to be a worldwide famine, it would affect the
[16:15] Speaker 5: people to whom Agabus was speaking just as much as
[16:18] Speaker 5: the people in Jerusalem.
[16:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's an interesting passage. And one of the things
[16:23] Speaker 2: I would say as a prologue to answering that question
[16:26] Speaker 2: is we know for a certainty that Luke was a
[16:32] Speaker 2: meticulous historian. That's pretty much universally acknowledged even today by
[16:39] Speaker 2: people who oftentimes doubt the credibility of the Bible. But
[16:44] Speaker 2: in context, what we have is during this time, a
[16:49] Speaker 2: particular time, a particular epic in the first century, some
[16:53] Speaker 2: prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch, and some of
[16:58] Speaker 2: them were making a prophecy in the vein that you
[17:02] Speaker 2: are talking about, including Agabus, who stood up and through
[17:07] Speaker 2: the spirit of God, predicted that a severe famine would
[17:11] Speaker 2: spread over the entire Roman world. And we are told
[17:16] Speaker 2: that this happened during the reign of Claudius. And if
[17:21] Speaker 2: you go to outside sources there is cooperation for this.
[17:25] Speaker 2: For example, Josephus, I think in Antiquities twenty refers to
[17:30] Speaker 2: a famine that corresponds to this time period. So the
[17:35] Speaker 2: import of this being communicated and acts is that the
[17:38] Speaker 2: disciples and you alluded to this, each according to his ability,
[17:42] Speaker 2: decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea.
[17:46] Speaker 2: And this they did, sending their gifts to the elders
[17:51] Speaker 2: by Barnabas and Saul. So this great famine, it took
[17:56] Speaker 2: place somewheres around I think forty four through fifty, if
[18:00] Speaker 2: I recall, it begins in Judea, and then it spreads
[18:04] Speaker 2: to Greece and to Italy. And the point of the
[18:08] Speaker 2: passage is that the principle of giving each according to
[18:11] Speaker 2: his ability is a principle that was applied in the
[18:17] Speaker 2: church there, and it continues to be a principle that
[18:21] Speaker 2: we ought to apply in the Church in this epic
[18:24] Speaker 2: of time as well.
[18:26] Speaker 5: I agree. It just seems strange to me that money
[18:31] Speaker 5: would be the remedy for a famine, and too that
[18:35] Speaker 5: if it were going to eventually work its way through
[18:39] Speaker 5: the whole of the Roman world, that the money would
[18:43] Speaker 5: be just as useful there where it was being collected
[18:45] Speaker 5: in Antioch.
[18:47] Speaker 2: Well, yes, but here is a text in which we
[18:52] Speaker 2: don't know all of the situations in the church. I mean,
[18:56] Speaker 2: we simply don't have the details in terms of exactly
[18:59] Speaker 2: what's going on. So there are people who have resources
[19:03] Speaker 2: that can be used to help other Christians, and within
[19:06] Speaker 2: that millu they would have known about it in a
[19:09] Speaker 2: way that I couldn't off the tip of my tongue
[19:12] Speaker 2: tell you about. I simply wouldn't know. I mean, I'm
[19:15] Speaker 2: not saying it couldn't be known, I simply don't know.
[19:19] Speaker 5: I think it's interesting the emotional component to our giving,
[19:23] Speaker 5: and not to denigrate emotional appeals necessarily, but sometimes that's
[19:29] Speaker 5: all we have to go by. I think one of
[19:32] Speaker 5: the broader points there in the scripture is that there
[19:35] Speaker 5: was such compassion that was exercise throughout the church, that
[19:39] Speaker 5: everybody was willing to consider their brother's burden and give
[19:44] Speaker 5: a hand where they could. And yet in this particular instance,
[19:51] Speaker 5: you know, there was nothing but the word of a
[19:54] Speaker 5: prophecy that directed the saints to give in such a manner.
[19:59] Speaker 2: Yeah, but remember that. But the text itself says that
[20:01] Speaker 2: the disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide
[20:07] Speaker 2: help for the brothers, so as they were able as
[20:10] Speaker 2: the Lord enabled them, they decided purposed in their hearts
[20:15] Speaker 2: to provide help, and this was for those living in Judea,
[20:20] Speaker 2: and they did that. And so this is a historical
[20:23] Speaker 2: narrative talking about something that actually happened, and there is
[20:28] Speaker 2: an application for us in the present day world as well. Great.
[20:33] Speaker 5: Yeah, well, not to give an improper plug, but giving
[20:36] Speaker 5: the CRI is a very tangible means of disseminating truth
[20:40] Speaker 5: to our country and people overseas, and it's something that
[20:45] Speaker 5: my wife and I are going to consider doing as
[20:46] Speaker 5: soon as I get off this phone.
[20:48] Speaker 2: Thank you so much, John, I appreciate your call. I
[20:53] Speaker 2: wanted to mention an answer to a question that I
[20:56] Speaker 2: think is important, and that is a question I got
[21:00] Speaker 2: on Facebook, which is about whether or not the Bible
[21:04] Speaker 2: states that a Christian must go to church in order
[21:07] Speaker 2: to go to heaven. And this is a question that
[21:10] Speaker 2: I desire very much to answer on today's edition of
[21:14] Speaker 2: the Bible answer Man Broadcast, because when someone becomes a
[21:19] Speaker 2: follower of Jesus Christ, they're baptized into Christ and they
[21:24] Speaker 2: become members of His body. Now it is within the
[21:29] Speaker 2: body of Christ that we receive the graces by which
[21:35] Speaker 2: we become by grace what God is by nature. We
[21:40] Speaker 2: become gods by grace. We become God's by participation. This
[21:47] Speaker 2: is not to say that we become gods in the
[21:49] Speaker 2: sense of the Word of Faith movement, where God looks
[21:55] Speaker 2: like us and we look like God. We are again
[21:59] Speaker 2: not God's by no nature. We are God's by participation,
[22:04] Speaker 2: participating in the divine nature. As Peter puts it, it
[22:10] Speaker 2: is within the body of Christ again that we receive
[22:14] Speaker 2: the graces by which we become by grace what God
[22:17] Speaker 2: is by nature. We emulate the early Christians who devoted
[22:22] Speaker 2: themselves to the apostles, teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking
[22:27] Speaker 2: of bread, to prayer within the community, the fellowship of
[22:33] Speaker 2: the saints, and far from being born again. Therefore as
[22:38] Speaker 2: rugged individualists, we are born into a body of believers
[22:44] Speaker 2: of which Christ is the head. And therefore, therefore, as
[22:50] Speaker 2: Hebrews commends us, let us not give up meeting together
[22:57] Speaker 2: as some are in the habit of dear I took
[23:02] Speaker 2: the time a number of years ago to memorize Romans
[23:06] Speaker 2: chapter twelve, and the reason I did is this whole
[23:11] Speaker 2: chapter is focused on how we are to use our
[23:16] Speaker 2: gifts within the community of faith. Christ is building his church,
[23:22] Speaker 2: He is perfecting his bride, He is perfecting the full
[23:27] Speaker 2: complement of God's people expressed within a community of faith. Again,
[23:34] Speaker 2: the church is the spiritual gymnasium. It is the place
[23:39] Speaker 2: where we have the great privilege every single week to
[23:44] Speaker 2: partake of the body and blood of our Lord and Savior,
[23:48] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, his broken body, his shed blood, his pure body,
[23:55] Speaker 2: his precious blood, and that gives us an energy to
[24:02] Speaker 2: live our lives, not by might nor by power, but
[24:06] Speaker 2: by His spirit. When we partake of Christ, we partake
[24:12] Speaker 2: of uncreated energy, for only God is uncreated, and in
[24:19] Speaker 2: that circumstance we experience something that's far beyond the biological
[24:26] Speaker 2: not by us, but we experience zoetic energy. This is
[24:32] Speaker 2: the kind of energy that rewired the circuits of the apostles.
[24:39] Speaker 2: Peter James John on the Mount of Transfiguration saw the
[24:46] Speaker 2: resurrected Christ transformed, and when they saw the transformation of Christ,
[24:56] Speaker 2: they themselves were transformed. Suddenly they recognize that there was
[25:03] Speaker 2: a realm and a reality far beyond the biological sphere,
[25:08] Speaker 2: and that they could partake in that reality. And ultimately,
[25:14] Speaker 2: this is the power, the power alone that allows us
[25:19] Speaker 2: to be reproducing disciple makers, because on our own energy
[25:26] Speaker 2: we are going to eventually simply well just run out.
[25:34] Speaker 2: But his energy, It's like plugging your laptop into a
[25:38] Speaker 2: source that is inexhaustible. When we tap in to the
[25:46] Speaker 2: spiritual graces available within the church. Now we live not
[25:50] Speaker 2: by might nor by power, but by His spirit. Out

[27:15] Speaker 1: of the battle and ultimately the war. The lesson is
