[0:07] Speaker 1: Welcome to the Bible answer Man Broadcast with Christian Research
[0:11] Speaker 1: Institute President Hank Canagraph. Our mission at CRII is not
[0:15] Speaker 1: only to equip you with sound biblical teaching and spiritual discernment,
[0:20] Speaker 1: but to help you become a winsome and fruitful witness
[0:23] Speaker 1: of Jesus Christ. Because the credibility of our faith hinges
[0:27] Speaker 1: on the answers we provide to life's biggest questions, there's
[0:31] Speaker 1: often not a second chance to get those answers right,
[0:34] Speaker 1: to learn more, or to find resources to help you
[0:37] Speaker 1: grow in grace. Call eight eight eight seven thousand CRI.
[0:42] Speaker 1: That's eight eight eight seven thousand two seven four, or
[0:46] Speaker 1: go to our website at equip dot org. That's equip
[0:51] Speaker 1: dot org. The following program was pre recorded, and now
[0:57] Speaker 1: here's Hank Cannigraph.
[0:58] Speaker 2: Say for match Randy. We'll go to your questions. First.
[1:01] Speaker 2: Up David, he's listening on the web and reading Pennsylvania.
[1:05] Speaker 3: Hi David, Hey, Hank, how are you?
[1:08] Speaker 2: No, I'm doing good? How are you great?
[1:09] Speaker 3: Thank you? But I have a question. I having a
[1:16] Speaker 3: healthy debate with my friend who for the past three
[1:19] Speaker 3: days I got his mind changed about the guarantee of
[1:27] Speaker 3: divine healing in the Atonement, and how he believed that
[1:31] Speaker 3: physical healing is a guarantee with salvation in this present time,
[1:35] Speaker 3: in present world, and through biblical talking and debating he
[1:43] Speaker 3: opened up his eyes regarding Isaiah fifty three five and
[1:47] Speaker 3: one period two twenty four. Now he asked me a
[1:51] Speaker 3: question on Luke seventeen six, because he's really been in
[1:55] Speaker 3: the Word faith movement and he has struggled with the
[2:00] Speaker 3: positive confession aspect of it. Which he asked me about
[2:04] Speaker 3: Luke seventeen verse six, which states about I'm having.
[2:10] Speaker 2: You know, yeah, have faith in God. I mean that passage,
[2:15] Speaker 2: like other passages, points out that if you have faith
[2:20] Speaker 2: in God, what you hope will come to pass will
[2:25] Speaker 2: come to pass one hundred percent of the time in
[2:28] Speaker 2: accordance with the will of God. What subsumes the passage
[2:33] Speaker 2: is have faith in God, which is to say that
[2:38] Speaker 2: God can do anything. But if your faith is in
[2:42] Speaker 2: your own faith, it is merely credulity. In other words,
[2:47] Speaker 2: if you have faith in your own faith that you
[2:51] Speaker 2: can move a mountain and throw it in the middle
[2:53] Speaker 2: of the sea, that's credulity. But if you have faith
[2:57] Speaker 2: in God and it is his purpose and his plan
[3:01] Speaker 2: to move a mountain. It is a small thing for God.
[3:05] Speaker 2: The point here, again is the difference between biblical faith
[3:11] Speaker 2: and the faith manifested in the credulity of faith followers
[3:17] Speaker 2: who are taught not to have faith in God but
[3:20] Speaker 2: faith in their own faith, which is to say, from
[3:23] Speaker 2: their perspective, faith is a force. Words are the containers
[3:27] Speaker 2: of the force, and through the force of faith they
[3:30] Speaker 2: can create their own reality. That's not biblical faith. Biblical
[3:36] Speaker 2: faith is a channel of living trust between a human
[3:40] Speaker 2: being and their God, and as such, faith is only
[3:44] Speaker 2: as good as the object in whom it is placed. Therefore,
[3:48] Speaker 2: if it's faith in your own faith, it's ill placed faith.
[3:51] Speaker 2: If it is faith in God, you can be certain
[3:55] Speaker 2: that the purposes of God will come to pass every
[3:59] Speaker 2: single time in accordance with His sovereign will.
[4:02] Speaker 3: Right. So that's when in first time five four when
[4:04] Speaker 3: it says, this is the confidence that we have before
[4:07] Speaker 3: him that whenever we ask anything according to His will,
[4:10] Speaker 3: he hears us.
[4:10] Speaker 2: Yeah. And that's the one thing that faith teachers will
[4:13] Speaker 2: continually tell you. You should never pray Thy will be done.
[4:19] Speaker 2: That's not faith. That is the antithesis of faith in reality.
[4:25] Speaker 2: From a biblical perspective, that is precisely how our Lord
[4:29] Speaker 2: taught us to pray. The same thing is true if
[4:32] Speaker 2: you look at James four and five. James makes clear
[4:35] Speaker 2: that to pray in any way other than in accordance
[4:39] Speaker 2: with God's will is simple foolishness. It is precisely what
[4:45] Speaker 2: the world does. It is not what a biblical believer does.
[4:49] Speaker 3: Right, perfect, perfect, perfect, Thank you so much, Hank, you
[4:53] Speaker 3: got it, because while you were talking, I found in
[4:55] Speaker 3: Mark Mark explained Luke Mark eleven twenty two, what Jesus
[5:02] Speaker 3: replied to them, have faith in God. I assure you
[5:04] Speaker 3: if anyone says it amounts to be like, okay, I
[5:06] Speaker 3: just think it's right here. Perfect scripture does interprescripture exactly.
[5:11] Speaker 3: Thank you so much, Hank, you got it.
[5:13] Speaker 2: My friend. Want to go back to the phone line,
[5:14] Speaker 2: stalk next to Jim. He's listening on Westfield, New Jersey. Hi, Jim, Hi,
[5:18] Speaker 2: how are you? Thanks for taking my call, my pleasure.
[5:21] Speaker 4: My question was about the book Heaven Is for Real,
[5:25] Speaker 4: and I just wanted to see what you if you
[5:27] Speaker 4: have read it, what your thoughts were about it.
[5:31] Speaker 2: And I suppose the one thing that I would say
[5:34] Speaker 2: is really important, and this is a consistent principle that
[5:37] Speaker 2: we've been speaking about at the Christian Research Institute, is
[5:41] Speaker 2: that experiences are notoriously unreliable, and as such we always
[5:48] Speaker 2: must test our experiences in light of biblical truth, which
[5:54] Speaker 2: is to say that the Bible is the final court
[5:59] Speaker 2: of arbitration. As such, we test all things in light
[6:03] Speaker 2: a scripture, hold fast to that which is good. Particularly,
[6:08] Speaker 2: we test our esoteric experiences, because again, experiences are notoriously unreliable.
[6:19] Speaker 2: One thing we know for certain, as there's no biblical
[6:24] Speaker 2: warrant for seeing and petting the horse of Jesus in heaven,
[6:31] Speaker 2: particularly the rainbow colored horse that has talked about in
[6:36] Speaker 2: this book. There's no biblical precedent for suggesting that people
[6:41] Speaker 2: have wings in heaven. In fact, quite properly understood, Heaven
[6:48] Speaker 2: does not exist today as a place. Heaven exists today
[6:55] Speaker 2: as a person. My dad, for example, died nineteen NINETYI
[7:00] Speaker 2: absent from the body. He's present with the Lord, which
[7:05] Speaker 2: is to say that he is non physical. He is
[7:11] Speaker 2: in the presence of the Lord, but his physical body
[7:15] Speaker 2: has decayed in the grave. Heaven will be a place when,
[7:21] Speaker 2: as Hebrews puts it, the Lord returns a second time.
[7:27] Speaker 2: When he appears a second time, he will put all
[7:30] Speaker 2: things to right and paradise lost then will become paradise restored,
[7:40] Speaker 2: which is to say, at that time there will be
[7:44] Speaker 2: a physical place. Now there is not a physical place.
[7:51] Speaker 2: So again, the suggestion of people flying around with wings
[7:57] Speaker 2: may be cute, but it's not biblically correct. The idea
[8:05] Speaker 2: of having wings and halos, in fact, has more to
[8:09] Speaker 2: do with mythology than with Christianity. So again I caution people,
[8:15] Speaker 2: as you read books that are meant for popular consumption,
[8:19] Speaker 2: do the right thing. Test all things in light a scripture,
[8:24] Speaker 2: hold fast to that which is good.
[8:28] Speaker 4: All right, HENK, thanks a lot.
[8:29] Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
[8:30] Speaker 2: You got it. Thank you for your call back the
[8:32] Speaker 2: phone lines, Talctor Paul. He's listening on the web in
[8:35] Speaker 2: midwest Oklahoma. Hi, Paul, thank you.
[8:38] Speaker 4: For taking my call.
[8:39] Speaker 2: My pleasure.
[8:40] Speaker 4: I'm studying with the Jehovah witnesses and witnessing to them,
[8:44] Speaker 4: and I'm using Ron Rhodes literature against the Jehovah witnesses.
[8:48] Speaker 4: And he claims Jesus can't be the archangel Michael, because
[8:51] Speaker 4: angels aren't called sons of God, and he references Hebrews
[8:56] Speaker 4: one five the Jehovah witnesses referenced job once and claim
[9:00] Speaker 4: angels are called the sons of God. And Ron Rhodes
[9:03] Speaker 4: is there for a liar, And I didn't know how
[9:06] Speaker 4: to handle that objection.
[9:08] Speaker 2: Well, Ron Roads is obviously not a liar. He is
[9:11] Speaker 2: a person who is being used by God to reach
[9:15] Speaker 2: out or teach people to witness to the witnesses. But
[9:19] Speaker 2: beyond that, I think that specifically to your question, Hebrews
[9:24] Speaker 2: is designed to show the difference between Jesus and the angels,
[9:31] Speaker 2: which is to say, Jesus is utterly unique. In fact,
[9:37] Speaker 2: Jesus can legitimately demand worship, whereas an angel. When an
[9:43] Speaker 2: angel's worship, has to say no, worship God. This is clear,
[9:50] Speaker 2: for example, on the very last few pages of the
[9:53] Speaker 2: Book of Revelation, where John is shown a vision and
[9:59] Speaker 2: he bows down to an angel and the angel says,
[10:02] Speaker 2: do not do it. I'm a fellow servant with you
[10:04] Speaker 2: and the brothers the prophets worship God. So the uniqueness
[10:09] Speaker 2: of Jesus Christ is shown in the Book of Hebrews
[10:13] Speaker 2: and is a place where Paul equates the idea of
[10:18] Speaker 2: beginning with the resurrection and demonstrates that Jesus Christ is begotten,
[10:25] Speaker 2: not made. Jehovah's witnesses want to do exactly the inverse.
[10:29] Speaker 2: They want to say that Jesus Christ was created by
[10:32] Speaker 2: God and then became a junior partner in the creation
[10:37] Speaker 2: of all other things. And to do that they have
[10:41] Speaker 2: to tamper with the text in both John one and
[10:44] Speaker 2: most particularly in Colossians chapter one, beginning at verse fifteen,
[10:48] Speaker 2: where they insert the word other four times to make
[10:52] Speaker 2: Christ not the creator of all things, but rather the
[10:55] Speaker 2: creator of all other things. Will be right back in
[10:57] Speaker 2: just a few moments with more of the Bible answer

[12:09] Speaker 1: that no matter what we do in this life, only
[12:12] Speaker 1: unconditional love and joy await us in the world to come.
[12:16] Speaker 1: But our Lord warned that while the gate to Hell
[12:18] Speaker 1: is wide, the road to it broad, and those who
[12:21] Speaker 1: enter through it are many, the gate is narrow and
[12:24] Speaker 1: the way is hard that leads to life, and those
[12:27] Speaker 1: who find it are few. Your generous support, let's Hank
[12:30] Speaker 1: Hanograph and see Uri speak out against the lies that
[12:34] Speaker 1: lead to hell. In appreciation for your gift, today, we'll

[15:08] Speaker 1: canagraph very much.
[15:10] Speaker 2: Randy will go right back to our phone callers. Next
[15:12] Speaker 2: up as Judy. She's listening in Tupelow, Oklahoma.
[15:15] Speaker 1: Hi, Judy, Hi, Hank.
[15:19] Speaker 5: I listen to your charagrim every evening when I come
[15:23] Speaker 5: home from work, and I really enjoy listening to you.
[15:29] Speaker 5: But what I can't understand is about this Book of Nature.
[15:33] Speaker 5: I've never heard of it, and you're the only person
[15:35] Speaker 5: that I've ever heard mention it. What is this book about?
[15:39] Speaker 5: Who wrote it? And why do we need to read it?
[15:42] Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, the Bible writes about the Book of Nature,
[15:45] Speaker 2: and here's how you read about this. In Psalms nineteen,
[15:51] Speaker 2: the heavens declare the glory of God. The skies proclaim
[15:57] Speaker 2: the work of his hands. Day after day, they pour
[16:02] Speaker 2: forth speech, night after night. They proclaim knowledge. There's no
[16:07] Speaker 2: speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their
[16:11] Speaker 2: words go out and to the ends of the world.
[16:16] Speaker 2: So the point in Scripture is plain. From the creation
[16:22] Speaker 2: of the world, God's invisible qualities, his eternal power, his
[16:28] Speaker 2: divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what
[16:34] Speaker 2: has been made, so that men are without excuse. This
[16:40] Speaker 2: is the thing that animated Western civilization. The Greeks believed
[16:47] Speaker 2: in reason. Augustine, at the very embryonic stages of Western civilization,
[16:56] Speaker 2: made clear that reason, apart from revelation, always ends up
[17:02] Speaker 2: in the blind ditch of ignorance. Reason must always be
[17:08] Speaker 2: augmented by revelation. And we have in scripture special revelation,
[17:17] Speaker 2: whereas in nature we have general revelation. And you see
[17:25] Speaker 2: both very beautifully depicted in the Psalms of David, particularly
[17:31] Speaker 2: as I just mentioned in Psalm nineteen. Let's go back
[17:35] Speaker 2: to the phone lines. Talk next to Lee listening on
[17:38] Speaker 2: the World Wide Web in Virginia.
[17:40] Speaker 5: High Lee, Okay, what's going on?
[17:43] Speaker 2: How you doing?
[17:44] Speaker 6: I'm doing good. I actually got through them. Surprise, as
[17:47] Speaker 6: I got through I have a question. I was at
[17:52] Speaker 6: work and I have a discussion with one of my
[17:54] Speaker 6: coworkers about modern day apostles and profits. I wanted to
[17:57] Speaker 6: get your take on that.
[17:59] Speaker 2: Well, we have the Bible. It is the infallible repository
[18:04] Speaker 2: of redemptive revelation. And the Bible was written by the
[18:09] Speaker 2: apostles and the prophets, and those apostles and profits were
[18:15] Speaker 2: unique in human history. So those prophets and apostles will
[18:22] Speaker 2: never be restored in any sense in which we might
[18:26] Speaker 2: say there are super apostles or profits around today by
[18:30] Speaker 2: which we can receive revelation. No, we already have the
[18:35] Speaker 2: revelation by which we test all human revelation. The problem,
[18:41] Speaker 2: or I would say, even the bane of modern day controversialists,
[18:44] Speaker 2: is not only predicting the future, but also supposing that
[18:48] Speaker 2: we have modern day profits and apostles in our midst
[18:53] Speaker 2: and that their prophecies or their expositions are on horror
[19:00] Speaker 2: with the Word of God, and nothing could be farther
[19:02] Speaker 2: from the truth. We must always test their revelations in
[19:07] Speaker 2: light of the revelation we have already received.
[19:10] Speaker 6: Hmm, that's kind of how I felt. I kind of
[19:12] Speaker 6: really had no position on it. It's kind of made
[19:16] Speaker 6: me think we have in my church, but you have
[19:19] Speaker 6: an overseer who is an apostle, and I just kind
[19:23] Speaker 6: of iffy.
[19:25] Speaker 2: You know, well, look, here's one of the principles that
[19:29] Speaker 2: I talk about of the biblanches been broadcast all the time.
[19:31] Speaker 2: Words are not unifical. They are equivocal, which is to say,
[19:37] Speaker 2: they take on the meaning that the context allow. So
[19:39] Speaker 2: certainly there's a sense in which you can use the
[19:43] Speaker 2: words profit or apostle. Apostle could be used in the
[19:48] Speaker 2: sense of a church planter, in the sense of a missionary,
[19:52] Speaker 2: a pastor of pastors, or a prophet could be used
[19:55] Speaker 2: in the sense of a leader who inspires the church
[19:58] Speaker 2: with vision for its mission, or one who challenges the
[20:02] Speaker 2: church to a deeper commitment to Christ. But they may
[20:06] Speaker 2: not be used in the sense that is synonymous with
[20:11] Speaker 2: the first century apostles or the Old Testament. Profits.
[20:16] Speaker 6: Yeah, that's kind of how I felt, That's kind of
[20:18] Speaker 6: how I was explaining it to my coworker. I just
[20:21] Speaker 6: wanted to get your standpoint.
[20:23] Speaker 2: And I've also written about this in the Complete Bible
[20:26] Speaker 2: answer Book Collector's Edition, which is available through the Ministry
[20:29] Speaker 2: of the Christian Research Institute. Before we go to our
[20:31] Speaker 2: next caller, I want to pause for just a second
[20:33] Speaker 2: and mention that when you join the support team, I'll
[20:37] Speaker 2: personalize it to you a family member or a friend.
[20:41] Speaker 2: Check it out on the webit equipped dot org, or
[20:43] Speaker 2: as always, you can call our resource consultants. They're standing
[20:46] Speaker 2: by triple eight seven thousand CROI do remember. You can
[20:51] Speaker 2: also write me box eighty five hundred, Charlotte, North Carolina,
[20:55] Speaker 2: zip code two eight two seven to one. Let's go
[20:58] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines. We'll talk next to Evelyn
[21:01] Speaker 2: listening in New York, New York.
[21:02] Speaker 7: Hi, Evelyn, Hi, how are you.
[21:05] Speaker 2: I'm good.
[21:05] Speaker 7: I don't know if you remember me, but I met
[21:07] Speaker 7: you at Camp of the Woods years ago. If you
[21:10] Speaker 7: don't remember me, you probably remember my guide dog, a
[21:13] Speaker 7: Golden Retriever named Patty.
[21:15] Speaker 2: You know, Evelyn, I do remember you now that you
[21:19] Speaker 2: now that you make that association for me.
[21:22] Speaker 7: Yeah, it was really nice to meet you then. Likewise,
[21:27] Speaker 7: but I do have a question. I don't like the
[21:29] Speaker 7: Word of Faith movement, obviously, mostly because I'm visually impaired
[21:32] Speaker 7: and they're always attacking me about you know, healing and stuff,
[21:37] Speaker 7: or a lot of them anyway. But there are some
[21:40] Speaker 7: verses that seem to support it, and I guess it
[21:42] Speaker 7: kind of bothers me. I don't know what to make
[21:44] Speaker 7: of them. Like there are verses in the Gospels where
[21:48] Speaker 7: Jesus said that he could do few miracles. He like
[21:51] Speaker 7: limited himself because the people hadn't the faith. I think
[21:56] Speaker 7: in Copernium. I can't remember it exactly.
[22:01] Speaker 2: Yeah, but this doesn't limit Christ's ability. Remember that Jesus
[22:06] Speaker 2: Christ did not divest himself of a single attribute of deity.
[22:10] Speaker 2: He took on the limitations of humanity. So the text
[22:13] Speaker 2: is not intended to say that Jesus could not. It
[22:16] Speaker 2: is intended to communicate that Jesus would not. And again,
[22:21] Speaker 2: you have to exercise faith in God. The whole notion, Evelyn,
[22:26] Speaker 2: is not that we are not to exercise faith in God,
[22:30] Speaker 2: but rather that we should never exercise faith in our
[22:34] Speaker 2: own faith. In your particular condition, God could instantaneously heal
[22:40] Speaker 2: you if he wanted to. He created you, He knit
[22:44] Speaker 2: you together in your mother's limbs, so obviously he can
[22:46] Speaker 2: heal your eyes. But God has a purpose. God has
[22:52] Speaker 2: a plan, and all of us live in a fallen world,
[22:57] Speaker 2: and therefore Christianity has never been intended to give us
[23:01] Speaker 2: a peaceful way to come to terms with the maladies
[23:05] Speaker 2: or the difficulties of life. Rather, it is designed to
[23:09] Speaker 2: give us something far greater, a way to overcome them
[23:13] Speaker 2: through the power of Christ's resurrection. So we look forward
[23:18] Speaker 2: to a time in which we will see clearly, not
[23:22] Speaker 2: only with our physical eyes, but also with our spiritual eyes.
[23:27] Speaker 2: And you know, one of my heroes of the faith,
[23:29] Speaker 2: Evelyn is Johnny Arksentata, and she often says that she's
[23:34] Speaker 2: looking forward to the day that she will pull vault
[23:36] Speaker 2: the pearly gates, And it is a way of saying
[23:39] Speaker 2: that she's looking forward to the day that she will
[23:42] Speaker 2: be completely restored, no longer a quadriplegic. The same thing
[23:47] Speaker 2: is true with you. There comes a time when Jesus
[23:51] Speaker 2: appears a second time, and then that which is wrong
[23:54] Speaker 2: with this world will be put to right, including your eyes,
[23:59] Speaker 2: so you will fully see.
[24:00] Speaker 7: My question still is does he let himself not by
[24:04] Speaker 7: divesting his power? You can't do that. He can't do that,
[24:07] Speaker 7: I mean, you know what I mean, God, God doesn't
[24:10] Speaker 7: lose his power because we don't believe he has it
[24:12] Speaker 7: or something like that. But does he I mean it
[24:16] Speaker 7: sounds like he does sort of let himself be limited
[24:22] Speaker 7: when we don't have the faith that he can do something.
[24:26] Speaker 2: Well, that's right. I mean we have to expert. I
[24:28] Speaker 2: mean we're part of the process, aren't we. Which is
[24:30] Speaker 2: to say that we are called to have faith in God,
[24:34] Speaker 2: which is to say that there's nothing wrong with you
[24:37] Speaker 2: praying Lord, if it be thy will heal me and
[24:43] Speaker 2: give me back my sight. Nevertheless, not my will, but
[24:47] Speaker 2: Thy will be done. That is properly putting your faith
[24:52] Speaker 2: in Jesus Christ. The inverse would be to say, I
[24:57] Speaker 2: don't believe in the power of Jesus Christ, even though
[25:00] Speaker 2: he's displayed his power in many different ways. He's displayed
[25:03] Speaker 2: at the universe he created, he's displayed it in my
[25:06] Speaker 2: life over and over again. Yet I do not believe
[25:09] Speaker 2: in the power of Jesus Christ. If you take that position,
[25:12] Speaker 2: then you might as well be like the first century
[25:16] Speaker 2: people of whom Jesus said, I might as well wipe
[25:21] Speaker 2: the dust from my sandals and move on, because you
[25:25] Speaker 2: see my power, and yet you deny my power. So
[25:31] Speaker 2: we are called to have faith in Jesus Christ. Thanks
[25:35] Speaker 2: for tuning in. Look forward to seeing you right back
