[0:15] Speaker 1: We're on the air because life and truth matter. The
[0:18] Speaker 1: mission of the Christian Research Institute is to equip believers
[0:22] Speaker 1: to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone
[0:25] Speaker 1: who asks you, to give the reason for the hope
[0:27] Speaker 1: that you have, with gentleness and respect. For more information

[0:41] Speaker 1: The following program was pre recorded and now here's Bible
[0:46] Speaker 1: answer Man host Hank Canagraph.
[0:48] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Indian Before we go to
[0:50] Speaker 2: our callers, a quick word on annihilationism, answering the question,
[0:54] Speaker 2: of course is it biblical? And the reason I want
[0:59] Speaker 2: to spend just a moment on that before we go
[1:01] Speaker 2: to the callers is that just as universalism is the
[1:06] Speaker 2: rage in liberal Christianity, so too annihilationism is gaining momentum
[1:14] Speaker 2: in Christian circles. And therefore we are right to ask
[1:21] Speaker 2: is this indeed biblical? And I would say, first of
[1:26] Speaker 2: all that common sense dictates that a God of love
[1:33] Speaker 2: and justice does not arbitrarily annihilate the crowning jewels of
[1:41] Speaker 2: his creation. Far from rubbing us out, he graciously provides
[1:49] Speaker 2: us the freedom to choose between redemption and rebellion. It
[1:57] Speaker 2: would be a horrific evil to think that God would
[2:02] Speaker 2: create people with freedom of choice and then annihilate those
[2:06] Speaker 2: people because of the choices they made. Furthermore, I think
[2:13] Speaker 2: it's crucial to recognize that not all existence in Hell
[2:18] Speaker 2: is equal, so we can safely conclude that the torment
[2:24] Speaker 2: of Hitler's hell will greatly exceed the torment experienced by
[2:32] Speaker 2: a garden variety pagan. The point here is that God
[2:37] Speaker 2: is perfectly just, and therefore each person who spurns his
[2:44] Speaker 2: grace will suffer exactly what he or she deserves. Humans
[2:52] Speaker 2: are fashioned in the very image of God, and therefore,
[2:58] Speaker 2: from my perspective, to eliminate them would do violence to
[3:03] Speaker 2: his nature. The alternative to annihilationism is quarantine, and that
[3:10] Speaker 2: is precisely what Hell is. Without eternal separation, the very
[3:18] Speaker 2: nature of Heaven is polluted. Remember, this evil is contagious,
[3:26] Speaker 2: and therefore it must be quarantined, Otherwise, like a deadly plague,
[3:33] Speaker 2: it will continue to contaminate and corrupt if God did
[3:37] Speaker 2: not eventually separate the tears from the wheat, the tears
[3:42] Speaker 2: would choke out wheat. So the only way to preserve
[3:48] Speaker 2: an eternal place of good is to eternally separate all
[3:53] Speaker 2: evil from it. In other words, the only way to
[3:56] Speaker 2: have an eternal heaven is to have an eternal hell.
[4:03] Speaker 2: So is annihilationism biblical? Absolutely not. I think this is
[4:11] Speaker 2: an important point to make, an emphatic point to make
[4:16] Speaker 2: in a day and age in which Hell has fallen
[4:20] Speaker 2: into disrepute, as though there is no need for hell, indeed,
[4:25] Speaker 2: there is a need for Hell. An annihilationism, as well
[4:31] Speaker 2: as universalism, are distinctly unbiblical notions. A lot of you
[4:39] Speaker 2: hanging on we'll go right to our phone calls. First
[4:41] Speaker 2: step is Rob listening on the web in Gilsburg, Illinois.
[4:45] Speaker 3: Hi, Rob, Hey, Hank.
[4:47] Speaker 4: I appreciate you taking my call, and I really enjoy
[4:49] Speaker 4: your ministry. My question is in regard to Christian's drinking alcohol.
[4:54] Speaker 4: I grew up in a biblically conservative denomination, but as
[4:57] Speaker 4: soon now some thinking as a it's a right to
[5:00] Speaker 4: durn as long as if one doesn't get drunk or intoxicated.
[5:03] Speaker 4: And I was wondering biblically where you would point to
[5:06] Speaker 4: and what your opinion is on that.
[5:08] Speaker 2: Well, it's kind of interesting. I was born in Holland.
[5:10] Speaker 2: I'm very familiar with the practices in Holland. Even in
[5:14] Speaker 2: conservative churches, they drink alcohol. The prescription from a Biblical
[5:19] Speaker 2: perspective is not that you cannot drink alcohol. It is
[5:23] Speaker 2: that you cannot be drunk, just like the prescription is
[5:28] Speaker 2: that you can eat food, but you can't be one
[5:33] Speaker 2: who is a glutton. So the Bible speaks about wine,
[5:38] Speaker 2: bibbers and gluttons. Why because all those who gorge themselves
[5:44] Speaker 2: on meat or who drink too much wine, they are
[5:48] Speaker 2: those who are damaging both the metaphysical and the physical
[5:52] Speaker 2: aspects of their body. And so you have Proverbs twenty
[5:56] Speaker 2: three saying do not join those who drink too much
[5:58] Speaker 2: wine or gorge themself on meat, for drunkards and gluttons
[6:02] Speaker 2: become poor and drowsiness. Close them in rags. Or if
[6:07] Speaker 2: you go to the New Testament, Paul deals with the
[6:09] Speaker 2: same issue and says, do not get drunk on wine,
[6:13] Speaker 2: why because it leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with
[6:16] Speaker 2: the spirit. You do even have an example of Paul
[6:21] Speaker 2: giving a prescription, if you will, to Timothy to take
[6:24] Speaker 2: a little wine for a stomach. Now, some have said, well,
[6:27] Speaker 2: that doesn't mean that Paul was telling Timothy to drink wine.
[6:31] Speaker 2: It means that Paul was telling Timothy to rub a
[6:33] Speaker 2: little wine in the stomach. But that I think is
[6:35] Speaker 2: an absurd interpretation. Paul was telling Timothy to drink a
[6:40] Speaker 2: little wine for his stomach. The point is not that
[6:43] Speaker 2: there's something wrong with wine. The point is that there's
[6:47] Speaker 2: something wrong with being intoxicated. We have to be always
[6:52] Speaker 2: in a right frame of mind, not in an altered
[6:55] Speaker 2: state of consciousness.
[6:56] Speaker 4: Okay, well, thank you very much.
[6:58] Speaker 2: You're welcome. And so certainly there are a lot of
[7:01] Speaker 2: people who say I'm not going to drink anything because
[7:04] Speaker 2: if someone sees me drinking, they may draw the wrong conclusion,
[7:09] Speaker 2: and therefore I might cause one to stumble, and so
[7:12] Speaker 2: they don't drink for that reason. But it's not because
[7:15] Speaker 2: the Bible is against drinking alcohol. The Bible is against
[7:20] Speaker 2: gluttony in the same way it is against winebibbing. The
[7:26] Speaker 2: reason is that we are to be stewards of our mind,
[7:30] Speaker 2: just as we are to be stewards of our body.
[7:33] Speaker 2: Want to go back to the phone lines. Next up
[7:36] Speaker 2: is Rick listening in Menathee, California.
[7:39] Speaker 3: Hi, Rick, hi Yah.
[7:40] Speaker 5: What I was asking was about that six' sixty. Six
[7:44] Speaker 5: from WHAT i found, out that key is really like six,
[7:48] Speaker 5: hundred and THEN c is like sixty and but then
[7:52] Speaker 5: WHEN i look at the last one is sigma, sigma
[7:56] Speaker 5: turns OUT i find it's like two. Hundred AND i
[7:59] Speaker 5: was wondering how they come out with six on. That
[8:02] Speaker 5: there was another one called like, degama some Letter i've
[8:05] Speaker 5: never heard. Of they came out with a six like.
[8:08] Speaker 5: That so what's in the original text and how they
[8:11] Speaker 5: come about to get this six sixty.
[8:13] Speaker 2: Six, well first of, all you never come about to
[8:16] Speaker 2: get six six. Six it's six hundred sixty and. SIX
[8:21] Speaker 2: i suppose there's a sense in which you can look
[8:24] Speaker 2: at six six six in some symbolic, fashion in other,
[8:28] Speaker 2: words a repetition of six being three number short of
[8:32] Speaker 2: the number of, Perfection and in that way there's a
[8:35] Speaker 2: further parody of the beast in The. Lamb but the
[8:39] Speaker 2: real number that is in mind In revelation is six
[8:43] Speaker 2: hundred sixty and. Six And john is telling a first
[8:49] Speaker 2: century audience that with wisdom and, insight they'd be able
[8:53] Speaker 2: to calculate the number of the beast for its man's.
[8:58] Speaker 2: Number and what's going on in the first century is
[9:02] Speaker 2: very different than what goes on in the twenty first.
[9:06] Speaker 2: Century and the reason is we do not transform numbers
[9:12] Speaker 2: into names or names into. Numbers but that was a
[9:16] Speaker 2: very common practice in the first. Century, so for, example
[9:21] Speaker 2: in The lives of The Twelve, Caesars roman Historian sweetonius
[9:26] Speaker 2: Identifies nero by a numerical designation equal to what is
[9:32] Speaker 2: considered a nefarious. Deed and this is what's called an,
[9:36] Speaker 2: isocephism and it's encapsulated in the phrase count the numerical
[9:42] Speaker 2: values of the letters Of nero's name and and murdered
[9:46] Speaker 2: his own. Mother you will find the sum as the.
[9:49] Speaker 2: Same and that cryptogram reflected the widespread knowledge That nero
[9:56] Speaker 2: had killed his own mother well as related to the.
[10:01] Speaker 2: Number nero In greek actually totals one thousand and. Five
[10:09] Speaker 2: the reader Of john's, letter, however was familiar with The
[10:12] Speaker 2: hebrew language and could recognize that The greek spelling Of
[10:16] Speaker 2: Nero caesar was transliterated Into hebrew and then equalled six
[10:23] Speaker 2: hundred sixty and six and so the designation is less
[10:31] Speaker 2: important because of the actual number. Itself what's important is,
[10:38] Speaker 2: that with wisdom and, understanding those who understood the transliteration
[10:44] Speaker 2: could have Identified nero as being the parody as the
[10:48] Speaker 2: beast of the. Lamb i've written about this in detail
[10:51] Speaker 2: in a number of different. Places one is In The Last,
[10:55] Speaker 2: disciple which is a. Novel the second is in The
[10:59] Speaker 2: Complete bible Answer, book WHERE i deal with a far
[11:02] Speaker 2: more cryptic. Fashion not a play on words, here because
[11:05] Speaker 2: it is in a sense a. Cryptogram i'm up against the. Herd.

[15:08] Speaker 1: Canagraph thank very.
[15:10] Speaker 2: Much randy want to mention The Last disciples, series which
[15:13] Speaker 2: is our fiction series co authored With Sigmund. Brauer the
[15:17] Speaker 2: first of the three, books the three fiction books On.
[15:21] Speaker 2: ESCHATOLOGY i actually have the symbol for six hundred sixty and,
[15:28] Speaker 2: six and that symbol was a shorthand. Symbol it was
[15:33] Speaker 2: a symbol that must surely have had a visual impact on.
[15:39] Speaker 2: People the first letter key is the first letter Of
[15:45] Speaker 2: christ and it equals six hundred in terms of numerical.
[15:50] Speaker 2: Value the last letter is a double letter which begins
[15:56] Speaker 2: with The greek word for cross. Starus what you have
[16:00] Speaker 2: there is a, number that number being not two hundred but,
[16:08] Speaker 2: Six and the reason for that is there are two
[16:13] Speaker 2: sigmas In. Greek there's a sigma and a terminal, sigma
[16:20] Speaker 2: the sigma equaling two, hundred the terminal sigma equaling, six
[16:26] Speaker 2: and then the symbol of the, snake as it, were
[16:30] Speaker 2: at least from a visual, standpoint is trapped in the,
[16:33] Speaker 2: middle and that symbol must surely have sent chills up
[16:38] Speaker 2: the spine Of. Christians so all together this number six
[16:44] Speaker 2: hundred sixty and six has all kinds of, significance not
[16:49] Speaker 2: only in that it can be, transliterated so the number
[16:54] Speaker 2: equals the, name but you have one short of perfection in,
[17:03] Speaker 2: triplicate and then you have a visual symbol that had
[17:10] Speaker 2: profound significance as. Well and So nero becomes the quinn
[17:18] Speaker 2: essential beast who is trying to rub out the Embryonic,
[17:25] Speaker 2: church which is Saying christ Is lord in the epicenter
[17:31] Speaker 2: of A caesar cult commanded to Say caesar Is. Lord
[17:35] Speaker 2: and of course the gates of hell do not prevail
[17:38] Speaker 2: against The. Church The, church which starts, small becomes, large
[17:44] Speaker 2: The kingdom begins to fill the. Earth and we look
[17:47] Speaker 2: forward to the time where that is a glorified, reality
[17:54] Speaker 2: where The kingdom no longer has a mop up exercise
[17:58] Speaker 2: involved in, it but is the kingdom, indeed and that's
[18:05] Speaker 2: what we all look forward to no more, death, morning
[18:08] Speaker 2: crying or. Pain for the old. Order things will have
[18:11] Speaker 2: passed away the Old all things have become. New back
[18:16] Speaker 2: to the phone, lines we'll talk To. Eric he's listening
[18:19] Speaker 2: In Saint, Louis. Missouri Hi, Eric Hi, Hank how you.
[18:23] Speaker 2: Doing i'm. Well thank You.
[18:25] Speaker 6: Hey first, OFF i want to thank you for all
[18:26] Speaker 6: you do and for your. Ministry this is a great
[18:28] Speaker 6: way to be able to understand and do that ask,
[18:32] Speaker 6: Questions SO i thank you very.
[18:34] Speaker 2: Much you were.
[18:34] Speaker 6: Welcome my question is regarding predestination and free. WILL i
[18:40] Speaker 6: know it's a big. Topic i've been reading about it
[18:44] Speaker 6: And i've been praying on, it And i'm not SURE
[18:46] Speaker 6: i really understand. It AND i didn't know if there's
[18:49] Speaker 6: something that you could explain maybe in a, simple simple,
[18:53] Speaker 6: manner or if there's a resource out there that would
[18:57] Speaker 6: help me understand. It Because i've read so many different
[18:59] Speaker 6: articles and, BOOKS i don't know what to believe.
[19:02] Speaker 2: Anymore well tell you we have a terrific resource that
[19:05] Speaker 2: we can send out to you on this. Subject it
[19:09] Speaker 2: was actually a debate between A calvinist and a Non
[19:12] Speaker 2: calvinist that was in print. Form it's in The christian Research,
[19:17] Speaker 2: journal AND i will be happy to send that out to,
[19:20] Speaker 2: you or you can just go to the web at
[19:22] Speaker 2: equipped dot org and just download it from our.
[19:25] Speaker 6: Website, okay that would be, great very. GREAT i can
[19:28] Speaker 6: do that on your website then at equip dot. Org, okay,
[19:32] Speaker 6: Wonderful thanks very, Much.
[19:34] Speaker 2: Hank you are so. Welcome and, this of course is
[19:37] Speaker 2: a vigorous in house, debate and so what we wanted
[19:41] Speaker 2: to do is showcase a really Articulate calvinist and a
[19:45] Speaker 2: really articulate Non. Calvinist you can follow the debate in,
[19:50] Speaker 2: print and what's wonderful about it is you can then
[19:53] Speaker 2: have the time to actually take a quick look at the.
[19:57] Speaker 2: Arguments do these arguments really hold?
[19:59] Speaker 4: Up?
[19:59] Speaker 2: Well, you With bible in, hand can check out the
[20:02] Speaker 2: arguments and see which argument actually makes the best sense
[20:07] Speaker 2: in light of biblical, sense which is to, say The
[20:11] Speaker 2: bible is the infallible repository for redemptive. Revelation it becomes
[20:16] Speaker 2: the final court of. Arbitration and so in this process
[20:19] Speaker 2: you can learn and you can test all, things hold
[20:23] Speaker 2: fast to that which is, good all the while recognizing
[20:26] Speaker 2: that this, is at the end of the, day an
[20:29] Speaker 2: in house. Debate it's a very important. Debate but, nonetheless
[20:35] Speaker 2: it's not the debate that we have to separate ourselves
[20:38] Speaker 2: from one from the. Other and let me say very
[20:40] Speaker 2: quickly here that we have people on both sides of
[20:44] Speaker 2: the issue working at The Christian Research. Institute so the
[20:48] Speaker 2: debate carries on inside The Christian Research institute in a
[20:53] Speaker 2: very collegial, fashion where we love one, another we respect one,
[20:56] Speaker 2: another and we continue to learn from one. ANOTHER i
[20:59] Speaker 2: want to go right back the phone lines talked to
[21:02] Speaker 2: shack he In, Cortes. Colorado, Hi, Hi, hey you Doing?
[21:06] Speaker 2: Hey good? Her are you?
[21:08] Speaker 3: Good god bless?
[21:08] Speaker 4: You?
[21:09] Speaker 3: Hey my question is out Of Second. Corinthians When paul
[21:12] Speaker 3: is saying that he knew a man above fourteen years.
[21:16] Speaker 3: Ago he, says whether in the body or out of the,
[21:19] Speaker 3: body he couldn't. Tell is he talking about himself or
[21:22] Speaker 3: is he talking about somebody? Else and how do we?
[21:25] Speaker 2: Know, yeah we don't absolutely, know because the text doesn't tell. Us, many,
[21:30] Speaker 2: however do surmise that he is talking about, himself and
[21:35] Speaker 2: he's doing it in a way not to draw attention to.
[21:39] Speaker 2: Himself there are many people today who literally boast in
[21:43] Speaker 2: brag about trips to heaven or trips To. Hell But
[21:47] Speaker 2: paul was not prone to boast In. Bragg, rather he
[21:51] Speaker 2: was communicating with meekness and humility the experience that he,
[21:56] Speaker 2: had and, this of course would be the kind of
[21:59] Speaker 2: experience that you want to exercise a lot of meekness
[22:02] Speaker 2: and humility concerning.
[22:04] Speaker 3: Sure, okay thank, You you're.
[22:07] Speaker 2: Welcome AND i think implicit in this question is what
[22:09] Speaker 2: is the third? Heaven as? Well The bible speaks of
[22:13] Speaker 2: heaven in different. Ways you have the first heaven that
[22:16] Speaker 2: The bible deals with that would be perhaps analogous to
[22:20] Speaker 2: the atmosphere which surrounds the earth in that. SENSE i
[22:24] Speaker 2: think Of job pointing out that the frost and the
[22:26] Speaker 2: wind come from, heaven Or deuteronomy that says the dew
[22:31] Speaker 2: comes from, heaven or The psalms that say the clouds
[22:36] Speaker 2: are in the heavens. Now then you have The bible
[22:39] Speaker 2: dealing with the second heaven in the sense of the celestial,
[22:44] Speaker 2: heavens not in The mormon. Sense the heavens in that
[22:48] Speaker 2: sense are the realm of The, sun the, moon and
[22:51] Speaker 2: the stars Which god placed in the. Heavens and then
[22:55] Speaker 2: the third heaven is dealt. WITH i think in this
[22:58] Speaker 2: Passage Tewod corinthians chapter, twelve in the sense of the
[23:03] Speaker 2: dwelling place Of, god Whereas jesus taught us to pray Our,
[23:07] Speaker 2: father which art in. Heaven SO i think again The
[23:12] Speaker 2: bible can equivocate on the term heaven depending on the
[23:17] Speaker 2: context in which that particular term is. Used want to
[23:22] Speaker 2: go back to the phone, lines Doctor roseenext listening In,
[23:25] Speaker 2: Charlotte North, carolina.
[23:26] Speaker 7: AND i, rose, Hi, hank thank you for taking my call.
[23:29] Speaker 7: PLEASURE i am calling in reference to one particular, Scripture
[23:34] Speaker 7: matthew twenty, six verse thirty. Nine and the portion That
[23:39] Speaker 7: i'd like to anthesize is just that, reads let miscup
[23:42] Speaker 7: pass from. Me what is the biblical interpretation of that?
[23:47] Speaker 7: Expression And i'd also like to know if you, have
[23:51] Speaker 7: if you can suggest anything THAT i can read on my,
[23:55] Speaker 7: own also to give me a better understanding of what
[23:59] Speaker 7: it is that expression. Means and is there anything about the.
[24:04] Speaker 7: EXPRESSION i guess that would have to do with the
[24:06] Speaker 7: fact THAT i Think matthew was first written In. Hebrew
[24:09] Speaker 7: is there any connection there with the interpretation of that?
[24:13] Speaker 7: Expression and thank you again for your.
[24:17] Speaker 2: Explanation you're, Welcome. Rose AND i would say that cup
[24:21] Speaker 2: is symbolic of. Affliction it's symbolic of sorrow and, suffering
[24:27] Speaker 2: and as expressing human frailty about what he was about
[24:31] Speaker 2: to go. Through Jesus christ is the one who took
[24:36] Speaker 2: on the limitations of humanity without divorcing himself from a
[24:41] Speaker 2: single property of. Deity So Jesus christ was fully, divine
[24:47] Speaker 2: but he was also fully. Human it was one person
[24:51] Speaker 2: with two, natures fully, human one hundred percent, human one
[24:54] Speaker 2: hundred percent. Divine so you can imagine That Jesus, christ
[24:58] Speaker 2: in saying, coup is speaking about affliction of sorrow and.
[25:04] Speaker 2: Suffering he was about to suffer not only, physically but
[25:09] Speaker 2: he was also going to suffer, metaphysically which is to,
[25:13] Speaker 2: say he was going to bear the sin and suffering
[25:17] Speaker 2: of all humanity in his passion and The. Cross this
[25:22] Speaker 2: is an infinite being suffering for a finite. World and
[25:27] Speaker 2: when you think about all that that, entails you can
[25:31] Speaker 2: imagine That christ would talk about this, cup this symbolic
[25:36] Speaker 2: word for, affliction for, suffering for sorrow in a sense
[25:42] Speaker 2: that is beyond what we can fully relate, to but
[25:47] Speaker 2: at least in a symbolic, way we get some idea
[25:50] Speaker 2: of what's going. On, again words take on all kinds
[25:55] Speaker 2: of different meanings depending on the context in which there is.
[25:58] Speaker 2: Used cup obviously could mean a lot of different, things
[26:00] Speaker 2: but in this, SENSE i think it's clearly symbolic of,
[26:04] Speaker 2: affliction of sorrow and of. Suffering we're at a time
