[0:07] Speaker 1: You're just in time for the Bible answer Man broadcast
[0:10] Speaker 1: with Hank Anagraph, the radio outreach of the Christian Research Institute.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Our purpose here at CRII is to equip Christians to
[0:19] Speaker 1: pursue sound doctrine, to discern truth and error, and to
[0:23] Speaker 1: become faithful disciples of Christ because life and truth matter.
[0:28] Speaker 1: For more information, to order resources or donate, call eight
[0:32] Speaker 1: eight eight seven thousand CROI or go online to equip
[0:37] Speaker 1: dot org. The following program was pre recorded. Now here's
[0:42] Speaker 1: the President of the Christian Research Institute, Hank Canagraph.
[0:46] Speaker 2: Thanks ver much, Randy, and it is great to be
[0:49] Speaker 2: in studio today to talk to all of you, to
[0:51] Speaker 2: answer your questions and to bring up an issue. It's
[0:55] Speaker 2: an issue with respect to why God would allow bad
[0:58] Speaker 2: things to happen. And there is, at first blush as
[1:03] Speaker 2: many responses to that question as there are religions, but
[1:10] Speaker 2: in reality there are only three basic answers. Pantheism, philosophical naturalism,
[1:18] Speaker 2: and theism. Pantheism denies the existence of good and evil,
[1:22] Speaker 2: because in that view, God is all and All is God.
[1:29] Speaker 2: Philosophical naturalism, which is the worldview that undergirds evolutionism, presupposes
[1:35] Speaker 2: that everything is a function of random processes. Therefore, there
[1:41] Speaker 2: is no such thing as good and evil. For a
[1:45] Speaker 2: philosophical naturalist, theism alone has a relevant answer, and only
[1:51] Speaker 2: Christian theism can answer the question satisfactorily. Christian theism acknowledges
[1:57] Speaker 2: that God created the potential for evil because God created
[2:02] Speaker 2: human beings with freedom of choice. We choose to love,
[2:06] Speaker 2: we choose to hate, we choose to do good, we
[2:09] Speaker 2: choose to do evil, and the record of history bears
[2:14] Speaker 2: eloquent testimony to the fact that humans, of their own
[2:19] Speaker 2: free will have actualized the reality of evil through their choices.
[2:26] Speaker 2: Without choice, however, love is rendered meaningless. God is neither
[2:32] Speaker 2: a cosmic rapist who forces love on people, nor a
[2:38] Speaker 2: cosmic puppeteer who forces people to love him. Instead, God,
[2:45] Speaker 2: who is the personification of love, grants us the freedom
[2:51] Speaker 2: of choice that renders evil possible. But without such freedom
[3:00] Speaker 2: we would be little more than preprogrammed robots. The fact
[3:05] Speaker 2: that God created the potential for evil by granting us
[3:09] Speaker 2: freedom of choice ultimately will lead to the best of
[3:14] Speaker 2: all possible worlds, a world in which there'll be no
[3:18] Speaker 2: more death or mourning or crying or pain. Because the
[3:22] Speaker 2: older things will have passed away. Those who choose Christ
[3:29] Speaker 2: will be redeemed from evil by the goodness of Christ,
[3:35] Speaker 2: and will forever be able not to sin. Whenever we
[3:41] Speaker 2: have tragedies, it brings us immediately in touch with our morality.
[3:49] Speaker 2: It also brings us in touch with our mortality. What
[3:55] Speaker 2: do we believe, what do we think? And how do
[3:59] Speaker 2: we act in the world? And do we recognize that
[4:03] Speaker 2: life is but a vapor here today and gone tomorrow,
[4:09] Speaker 2: that eternity is forever, and that we are but a
[4:14] Speaker 2: heartbeat away from eternity. I have an interesting habit, and
[4:21] Speaker 2: that is I look at the obituary pages virtually every day,
[4:27] Speaker 2: and I see the names in the faces sixty eight,
[4:31] Speaker 2: fifty six, eighty six, occasionally ninety six. You have people
[4:38] Speaker 2: who live short lives and people who live long lives.
[4:44] Speaker 2: But the reality is, even if you live to be
[4:46] Speaker 2: one hundred, your life is short with respect to eternity.
[4:52] Speaker 2: And therefore I think it's crucial that we come to
[4:56] Speaker 2: a true valuation of things are poured out in new
[5:02] Speaker 2: and better fashion. If you are a believer, you need
[5:08] Speaker 2: to make your life count to build on the foundation
[5:11] Speaker 2: of Christ with gold and costly stones and silver. And
[5:17] Speaker 2: if you are a non believer, it means that you
[5:21] Speaker 2: should take seriously the reality that God created the universe,
[5:26] Speaker 2: that Jesus Christ is God, and that the Bible is
[5:30] Speaker 2: divine as opposed to merely human in origin. These are
[5:37] Speaker 2: life and death issues that impact every single person listening
[5:42] Speaker 2: to my voice right now. Prepare yourself and as a believer,
[5:51] Speaker 2: always be ready to give an answer or reason for
[5:53] Speaker 2: the hope that lies within you, with gentleness and with respect.
[5:57] Speaker 2: A lot of you hanging on will go right to
[5:59] Speaker 2: the phone. First up today is Mike. He's listening on
[6:03] Speaker 2: the web in Trinidad, Colorado.
[6:06] Speaker 3: Hi Mike, Hey, thanks for taking my call. I need
[6:08] Speaker 3: to define a term before I answer my question. I'm
[6:12] Speaker 3: using the Dictionary definition of the word lie, which is
[6:16] Speaker 3: basically any intentional deception. Okay, So based on that, how
[6:24] Speaker 3: could you say how could you say that, you know,
[6:30] Speaker 3: when God convinced Abraham that he was going to have
[6:32] Speaker 3: to kill his son, I mean, wasn't that an intentional deception?
[6:37] Speaker 2: Well, not at all. And I think one of the
[6:39] Speaker 2: things you have to recognize at the outset of answering
[6:42] Speaker 2: a question like that is that the Bible deals with
[6:46] Speaker 2: divine condescensions to us as human beings, because if the
[6:51] Speaker 2: Bible did not do so, then we simply would not
[6:55] Speaker 2: get it. So we don't want to take language like
[6:59] Speaker 2: God asking Adam and Eve where are you and try
[7:02] Speaker 2: to pour that language into a woodenly literal labyrinth as
[7:06] Speaker 2: though somehow or other we're going to come out with
[7:08] Speaker 2: a good answer. Secondly, I would say this, this is
[7:12] Speaker 2: not a normative situation. This is a one of and
[7:17] Speaker 2: it was necessary to test a patriarch's faith, and it
[7:21] Speaker 2: was fundamental to his position in the history of faith.
[7:26] Speaker 2: In other words, it has direct ramifications for us. And
[7:31] Speaker 2: of course, the question of whether God would ask for
[7:35] Speaker 2: human sacrifice is settled by the fact that God himself
[7:40] Speaker 2: prevented human sacrifice and provided another sacrifice, which is the
[7:48] Speaker 2: only sacrifice ever permitted, which is the sacrifice of his son.
[7:55] Speaker 2: And you can read in Hebrews that Abraham had faith,
[7:59] Speaker 2: and Abraham's faith was such that he knew that even
[8:04] Speaker 2: if he were to sacrifice Isaac, God would bring Isaac
[8:11] Speaker 2: back from the dead. That's how Abraham was reasoning. So
[8:16] Speaker 2: this was a very unique situation which ultimately was a
[8:23] Speaker 2: type pointing forward to an antotype. And so if you
[8:26] Speaker 2: take all of the historical milieu into consideration, where did
[8:30] Speaker 2: this happen Mount Mariah? Where was the temple built? Where
[8:34] Speaker 2: was Jesus Christ sacrificed? All of this was typological fulfilled
[8:41] Speaker 2: in an antetype Jesus Christ, the type that points to spiritual,
[8:48] Speaker 2: living sacrifices, which is precisely what Abraham was called to
[8:53] Speaker 2: do and what you and I today are called to do.
[8:58] Speaker 2: To offer our as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.
[9:04] Speaker 2: This is our spiritual act of worship. But again, the
[9:08] Speaker 2: question of whether God would ask for human sacrifice is
[9:11] Speaker 2: settled by the fact that God himself prevented human sacrifice. Again,
[9:17] Speaker 2: I think it's important to read Hebrews eleven in this regard.
[9:21] Speaker 2: Let's go back to the phone lines. We'll talk next
[9:24] Speaker 2: to Susan. She's listening on Arizona.
[9:26] Speaker 4: Hi, Susan, Hello, thank you for taking my call.
[9:30] Speaker 2: Oh, it's my pleasure.
[9:31] Speaker 4: My mom just started a Bible study and she said
[9:34] Speaker 4: that it was from a guy. I don't remember his name,
[9:37] Speaker 4: but apparently he's been passed on for a couple of years.
[9:40] Speaker 4: So she said that the teaching was that they are
[9:42] Speaker 4: little Jesus. And I remembered hearing something on your program
[9:46] Speaker 4: about somebody else saying, you know that we're little gods
[9:49] Speaker 4: in other words, little Jesus, since Jesus is God. And
[9:52] Speaker 4: I didn't remember what you had said about where that's
[9:56] Speaker 4: coming from. And I looked on your website and I
[9:59] Speaker 4: couldn't find a write up on it to pass that
[10:01] Speaker 4: on to her.
[10:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, well, the best resource in this regard is a
[10:05] Speaker 2: book that I wrote called Christianity in Christis twenty first century,
[10:08] Speaker 2: which you should be able to find on the webit
[10:10] Speaker 2: equipped dot org. But the bottom line here, I think
[10:13] Speaker 2: is words are not unifical, they're equivocal. So you want
[10:17] Speaker 2: to know what people mean by what they say. If
[10:20] Speaker 2: a Mormon says you are going to be a God,
[10:25] Speaker 2: they mean that God was once a man, he is
[10:28] Speaker 2: now a God. And just as God is now a God,
[10:31] Speaker 2: you a man, can become a God. The same thing
[10:35] Speaker 2: is true in the Word of Faith movement. The Word
[10:38] Speaker 2: of Faith Movement says we are little gods because we
[10:43] Speaker 2: can exercise the force of faith as God exercises the
[10:47] Speaker 2: force of faith. Thus we can call into existence things
[10:51] Speaker 2: that are not That, of course, is a regurgitation of
[10:55] Speaker 2: new thought metaphysics dressed up in Christian language. But we're
[10:58] Speaker 2: right back with more of your questions, so please don't
[11:01] Speaker 2: touch that dial.
[11:03] Speaker 1: The famous British apologist GK. Chesterton once noted, the true
[11:08] Speaker 1: soldier fights not because he hates what is in front
[11:11] Speaker 1: of him, but because he loves what is behind him.
[11:13] Speaker 1: Because at CRII, we love what is behind us, our faith,
[11:17] Speaker 1: our families, and our freedoms. We will never retreat quietly
[11:21] Speaker 1: from the growing assaults on life and truth, even when
[11:24] Speaker 1: the costs are great. We will stand to join like
[11:28] Speaker 1: minded friends in making a difference at home and around

[11:51] Speaker 1: Hank Canigraph will return in a few moments. Breaking the code.
[12:04] Speaker 1: If the Book of Revelation has become an international obsession,
[12:07] Speaker 1: the result has been rampant misreading of scripture, bad theology,
[12:11] Speaker 1: and even bad politics and foreign policy. In the Apocalypse Code,
[12:16] Speaker 1: find out what the Bible really says about the end
[12:18] Speaker 1: times and why it matters today. Hank Canagraph argues that
[12:22] Speaker 1: the key to understanding the Last Book of the Bible
[12:25] Speaker 1: is the other sixty five books of the Bible, not
[12:28] Speaker 1: current events or recent history. The Apocalypse Code offers sane
[12:32] Speaker 1: answers to some very controversial questions such as what does
[12:36] Speaker 1: it mean to take the Book of Revelation literally? Who
[12:39] Speaker 1: are the Antichrist and the Great Horror of Babylon? And
[12:42] Speaker 1: what is the real meaning of six hundred and sixty six.

[15:36] Speaker 2: way of saying thank you to those who become partners
[15:40] Speaker 2: with this ministry. We need many of you. Without you,
[15:44] Speaker 2: we simply cannot do what we do. We are in
[15:48] Speaker 2: many cases a lone voice crying in the wilderness. The
[15:52] Speaker 2: voices of sophistry and sensationalism continue to crowd out the
[15:59] Speaker 2: voices of and unfortunately, having lost discernment skills standing in
[16:05] Speaker 2: the shadow of the Bible, we no longer know how
[16:09] Speaker 2: to sort out the sophistry from genuine science of scriptural interpretation.
[16:19] Speaker 2: So we need you to stand with us, and we
[16:21] Speaker 2: ask you to do that in a safe, secure fashion.

[16:28] Speaker 2: to do is go to the web equip dot org,

[16:38] Speaker 2: online form. I want to go back to the phone
[16:41] Speaker 2: lines now. Talk to Maryland listening on the web in Washington.
[16:45] Speaker 5: Him Maryland, Hi, Henk, thank you for taking my call.
[16:49] Speaker 2: Pleasure.
[16:50] Speaker 5: Some people don't appreciate or don't care for the Schofield
[16:54] Speaker 5: reference Bible, and I was wondering.
[16:56] Speaker 2: Why, Well, I'm one of them. As far as Sea
[16:59] Speaker 2: Ice Goldfield is concerned, he was one of those who
[17:03] Speaker 2: popularized John Nelson Darby's rapture theories. And he started with
[17:09] Speaker 2: a presupposition, and that is that God has two distinct people,
[17:14] Speaker 2: and because God has two distinct people, he has two
[17:18] Speaker 2: distinct plans, necessitating two distinct timings of the second coming
[17:24] Speaker 2: of Jesus Christ, a secret coming, a seven year rapture,
[17:29] Speaker 2: and then a second coming. So he started with a
[17:33] Speaker 2: flawed premise, that premise being that God has two distinct people.
[17:36] Speaker 2: God has always ever had one people. True Israel has
[17:44] Speaker 2: always been true Israel, not by genealogy, not by ethnicity,
[17:52] Speaker 2: but always as a result of relationship. That's why we
[17:56] Speaker 2: find rayhap in a privileged psi in the lineage of
[18:01] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. It's why Ruth, a Moabite, the arch enemy
[18:06] Speaker 2: of Israel, was in a privileged position in the lineage
[18:11] Speaker 2: of Jesus Christ. It's why, by the way, many people
[18:16] Speaker 2: became Jews after seeing God sovereignly use Esther to save
[18:24] Speaker 2: the Jewish people from certain destruction under Hayman, it says
[18:30] Speaker 2: in the text. And I believe the passages Esther chapter eight,
[18:33] Speaker 2: and I think it's the last verse. Many different people
[18:37] Speaker 2: from many different nations became Jews. Now how did they
[18:42] Speaker 2: do that? Did they change their birth mother? They were
[18:46] Speaker 2: brought into all the types and shadows that pointed forward
[18:49] Speaker 2: to Jesus Christ. So true Israel is always true Isral.
[18:53] Speaker 2: God has always had one chosen people, beautifully connected by
[19:00] Speaker 2: the cross and illustrated by a cultivated olive tree in
[19:06] Speaker 2: the New Testament. So the premise he had I think
[19:09] Speaker 2: was wrong. But even beyond that, Schofield said that as
[19:15] Speaker 2: a dispensation, grace begins with the death and resurrection of
[19:20] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. The point of testing, he said, is no
[19:24] Speaker 2: longer legal obedience as the condition of salvation, but acceptance
[19:32] Speaker 2: or rejection of Christ with good works as a fruit
[19:37] Speaker 2: of salvation. So the point for Schofield was that there
[19:42] Speaker 2: was a time where people were not saved by God's
[19:44] Speaker 2: grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that is simply wrong.
[19:48] Speaker 2: In the Old Testament, people looked forward to Jesus Christ
[19:51] Speaker 2: through types and shadows. We look back at Jesus Christ
[19:55] Speaker 2: every time we take communion. We remember what Jesus Christ
[19:59] Speaker 2: did on the cross, and of course it's more than
[20:03] Speaker 2: just a memorial. But the reality is we are brought
[20:06] Speaker 2: face to face with the Cross in the sacraments. So
[20:12] Speaker 2: the idea that grace is some kind of a New
[20:15] Speaker 2: Testament thing is simply wrong.
[20:19] Speaker 5: I see. Okay, thank you. I didn't get a chance
[20:23] Speaker 5: to ask the person who said that at the time,
[20:26] Speaker 5: and I knew you would be able to give me
[20:29] Speaker 5: a good answer.
[20:30] Speaker 2: Well, I've read about this in several places, including my
[20:33] Speaker 2: book The Complete Bible answer Book Collector's Edition, as well
[20:37] Speaker 2: as The Apocalypse Code. Find out what the Bible really
[20:39] Speaker 2: says about the end times and why it matters today.
[20:43] Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, thank you very much.
[20:46] Speaker 2: You got it. Thank you so much for your call
[20:48] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines. Let's talk next to Steve.
[20:51] Speaker 2: He's listening on Hammond Louisiana. Hi Steve, Hey, Hey, thanks.
[20:55] Speaker 6: For taking my call. I've got a quick question about
[20:58] Speaker 6: how the different theories on the rapture, especially the pre
[21:03] Speaker 6: trib and even it's my understanding there's a few out
[21:06] Speaker 6: there to believe in a mid trib rapture, how they
[21:09] Speaker 6: developed quick history in any scriptural basis for it.
[21:13] Speaker 2: Well, there's no scriptural basis from my perspective. From my perspective,
[21:18] Speaker 2: people have taken the great and glorious truths of resurrection
[21:23] Speaker 2: and they've substituted the idea of a pre tribulational rapture
[21:28] Speaker 2: and prior to the time of the people I was
[21:29] Speaker 2: talking about just earlier, prior to the time of C. I.
[21:32] Speaker 2: Schofield and John Nelson Darby, all Christians futurists included, believe
[21:37] Speaker 2: that the rapture slash Second Coming were simultaneous. So this
[21:44] Speaker 2: idea of a pre tribulational rapture is very modern. Now,
[21:48] Speaker 2: the fact that it's new doesn't mean it's not true,
[21:50] Speaker 2: but I think the fact that it's new should caution
[21:54] Speaker 2: us to examine it very carefully in light of the evidence.
[22:00] Speaker 2: We don't think any of the passages that are typically
[22:03] Speaker 2: brought forward to support the rapture actually support the rapture.
[22:07] Speaker 2: If you talk to people like Tim la Hay, the
[22:10] Speaker 2: author of the wildly popular Left Behind series, or the
[22:14] Speaker 2: co author Tim la Hay will tell you that you
[22:17] Speaker 2: can find the pro tribulational rapture in John chapter fourteen,
[22:21] Speaker 2: or you can find it in First Thessalonians chapter four.
[22:24] Speaker 2: But if you read First Thessalonians four, or better yet,
[22:28] Speaker 2: memorize First Thessalonians chapter four, the thing you immediately realize
[22:32] Speaker 2: is First Thessalonians four has nothing whatsoever to do with
[22:35] Speaker 2: a pre tribulational rapture. Paul says, brothers, I don't want
[22:39] Speaker 2: you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep and
[22:43] Speaker 2: to grieve like the rest of those who have no hope.
[22:45] Speaker 2: We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so
[22:48] Speaker 2: we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who
[22:51] Speaker 2: fall asleep in him. So he is talking about the
[22:56] Speaker 2: great and glorious hope of resurrection, not a prea tribulational rapture.
[23:00] Speaker 2: And remember that, Paul says, Jesus is going to come
[23:04] Speaker 2: down with a loud command, with the voice of the
[23:08] Speaker 2: archangel with the trumpet call of God. That hardly sounds
[23:14] Speaker 2: like a secret rapture or a secret coming before the
[23:18] Speaker 2: Second Coming seven years later. Would this be.
[23:21] Speaker 6: Sort of analogous to the prosperity Gospel, to where the
[23:27] Speaker 6: theory that Christians shouldn't have to go through the tribulation,
[23:30] Speaker 6: which I find ridiculous.
[23:32] Speaker 2: Well, perhaps there are some connections, but I wouldn't necessarily
[23:37] Speaker 2: suppose that those connections are a result of the pro
[23:41] Speaker 2: tribulational rapture of view, because I know a lot of
[23:44] Speaker 2: people that hold that view. Dear brothers and sisters in
[23:46] Speaker 2: the Lord, they don't hold to the prosperity Gospel at all.
[23:51] Speaker 6: Right, right, yeah, I understand. But thanks, thank I appreciate it.
[23:57] Speaker 2: You got it. Thanks for your call. I want to
[23:58] Speaker 2: go back to the phone lines now. And talked to Alice.
[24:01] Speaker 2: She's listening in Houston, Texas. Hi, Elis, how are you good?
[24:06] Speaker 2: How are you?
[24:07] Speaker 7: I'm good. I just came back from my book club
[24:11] Speaker 7: and I was hearing from my friend about a little
[24:14] Speaker 7: thing called pantheism, because I suppose her daughter had babbled
[24:18] Speaker 7: in it or was talking about it, and some words
[24:21] Speaker 7: were exchanged and I didn't really know what she was
[24:24] Speaker 7: talking about. So could you shed some light on what
[24:26] Speaker 7: that is?
[24:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, In an Eastern worldview, humanity's goal is always, always,
[24:33] Speaker 2: always to become one with nature because nature is God,
[24:39] Speaker 2: and in that sense, the Eastern worldview is pantheistic. In
[24:45] Speaker 2: other words, God is All and all is God. Now,
[24:51] Speaker 2: if you can trast that with Christianity, Christianity teaches that
[24:54] Speaker 2: man is created in the image and likeness of his creator,
[24:58] Speaker 2: and as such is distinct from both nature and God.
[25:04] Speaker 2: So I think it's important for us to recognize that
[25:08] Speaker 2: this becomes a wonderful springboard or an opportunity to take
[25:13] Speaker 2: a deviation and use it as an opportunity to share
[25:18] Speaker 2: the grace and love and peace that only Jesus Christ
[25:22] Speaker 2: can bring to the human life. Because the reality is
[25:26] Speaker 2: we're never going to escape the body. The body's not evil.
[25:32] Speaker 2: The reality is the body is going to be resurrected,
[25:37] Speaker 2: and we're going to live in a renewed universe, in
[25:42] Speaker 2: resurrected bodies with a resurrected Lord, and forever explore the
[25:48] Speaker 2: glory and grace of the One who saved us, who
[25:53] Speaker 2: redeemed us, who loved us, so much that He made
[25:57] Speaker 2: a way for us to be reconciled to Him for
[25:59] Speaker 2: time and for eternity. Unfortunately amount of time for this

[27:03] Speaker 1: the Code. If the Book of Revelation has become an
[27:06] Speaker 1: international obsession, the result has been rampant misreading of scripture,
[27:10] Speaker 1: bad theology, and even bad politics and foreign policy. In
[27:14] Speaker 1: the Apocalypse Code, find out what the Bible really says
[27:18] Speaker 1: about the end times and why it matters today. Hank
