On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (06/15/26), Hank comments on the amazing contentment Paul describes in Philippians chapter 4, and the generosity of the church at Philippi whose gifts were a fragrant offering to the Lord. This wonderful example of giving shows the biblical model is not giving to get, but rather participating in the advance of the gospel through giving. Hank also answers the following questions: I lost my son to cancer. Should the promises in Jeremiah 29:11 be taken literally? If so, was there a chink in my faith armor that allowed this to happen? Warren - Edmonton, AB (2:53) As a Millennial, how can I stand strong against homosexuality and same-sex marriage? Are there Scriptures to support this? Leigh - AR (6:13) Why did God stop giving us inspired writings? Tammy - OK (15:47) What is a prophet, and how is that office expressed today? Karen - BC (21:41)

[0:11] Speaker 1: This is the Bible answer Man Broadcast. Your host for
[0:15] Speaker 1: the program is Hank Cannagraph, President of the Christian Research Institute.
[0:20] Speaker 1: We're on the air because life and truth matter. For
[0:24] Speaker 1: more information resources or to donate to CRI, call eight
[0:29] Speaker 1: eight eight seven thousand CRI, or go online to equip
[0:34] Speaker 1: dot org. That's equip dot org. The following program was
[0:39] Speaker 1: pre recorded to start today's Bible answer Man broadcast. Here's
[0:44] Speaker 1: your host, Hank Canagraph.
[0:46] Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
[0:47] Speaker 1: Brandy.
[0:47] Speaker 2: Is always great to be in studio as we answer
[0:49] Speaker 2: your questions throughout the United States and Canada, indeed around
[0:52] Speaker 2: the world. I was reading earlier on today Philippians chapter four,
[0:57] Speaker 2: where the apostle Paul says, I read, joice greatly that
[1:02] Speaker 2: at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed,
[1:06] Speaker 2: you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to
[1:10] Speaker 2: show it. I'm not just saying this because I am
[1:13] Speaker 2: in need, because I've learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
[1:18] Speaker 2: I know what it is to be in need, I
[1:20] Speaker 2: know what it is to have plenty, but I've learned
[1:23] Speaker 2: the secret of being content in any and every situation,
[1:27] Speaker 2: whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or want,
[1:32] Speaker 2: because I can do everything through Him who gives me
[1:36] Speaker 2: the strength. And yet it was so good of you
[1:39] Speaker 2: to share in my troubles. Moreover, as you Philippians know
[1:43] Speaker 2: the early days of your acquaintance with the Gospel, when
[1:45] Speaker 2: I sit out from Macedonia, not one single church shared
[1:51] Speaker 2: with me in the matter of giving and receiving except
[1:53] Speaker 2: you only for even when I was in Fessalondaica, you
[1:58] Speaker 2: sent me aid again and again when I was in need.
[2:01] Speaker 2: Not that I'm looking for your gift, but I am
[2:04] Speaker 2: looking for what may be credited to your account. Paul
[2:09] Speaker 2: never talks about a give to get scheme, But what
[2:12] Speaker 2: he does talk about is participation in the Gospel. And
[2:18] Speaker 2: what he makes clear, not only here but elsewhere, is
[2:21] Speaker 2: that while you can't take what you have with you,
[2:26] Speaker 2: you can send it on ahead. We're talking about His
[2:30] Speaker 2: laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and
[2:33] Speaker 2: rust do not corrupt, and where thieves do not break
[2:36] Speaker 2: in and steel. For where your treasure is there, your
[2:39] Speaker 2: heart will be Also. We're asking you to stand with
[2:43] Speaker 2: us all this month's shoulder to shoulder in the battle
[2:45] Speaker 2: for life and truth. You can do just that in
[2:47] Speaker 2: a say secure fashion on the web at equip dot org.
[2:52] Speaker 2: We'll go right to the phone lines. Warren. He's listening
[2:56] Speaker 2: in Canada, Edmonton, Alberta High Warren.
[3:00] Speaker 3: I don't want to get too much into my testimony,
[3:02] Speaker 3: but my son went through a six year battle with
[3:04] Speaker 3: cancer and ended up going home to the Lord. And
[3:07] Speaker 3: one of the things I've struggled with is like in
[3:09] Speaker 3: Jeremiah twenty nine to eleven, you know his plan to prospress,
[3:13] Speaker 3: or in the Psalms where it talked about delight in
[3:16] Speaker 3: me and I'll fulfill all your desires? Should those things
[3:19] Speaker 3: be taken literally? And if so, then do I look
[3:23] Speaker 3: at that as a reflection of a chink in my faith?
[3:26] Speaker 3: Aren't her type of thing? Or what's the best way
[3:28] Speaker 3: if you've interpret that?
[3:29] Speaker 2: Sure? And I don't think that any Christian can look
[3:32] Speaker 2: at life from merely a temporary perspective. One of the
[3:37] Speaker 2: realities that we have is that we live in a
[3:41] Speaker 2: fallen world. In that fallen world, the death rate is
[3:45] Speaker 2: one per person. Everyone is going to make it. We
[3:48] Speaker 2: all get sick, eventually, we all die. That is the
[3:53] Speaker 2: reality of the life that we live in, this temporary flesh.
[4:00] Speaker 2: And so Christianity doesn't come along anywhere and give us
[4:04] Speaker 2: a peaceful way to come to terms with the maladies
[4:07] Speaker 2: of life, but rather something far greater away to overcome
[4:12] Speaker 2: them through resurrection. So are we promised a panacea. No,
[4:20] Speaker 2: what we're promised is peace. My peace, I give unto you,
[4:24] Speaker 2: not as the world gives peace in the midst of
[4:28] Speaker 2: the storm. And so we don't give to curry favor
[4:32] Speaker 2: from God. We give because there are real needs in
[4:38] Speaker 2: the world that we can meet as embassadors for Jesus Christ.
[4:43] Speaker 2: And certainly the war generation understood just that. They knew
[4:50] Speaker 2: what it meant to catch the contagious joy of giving,
[4:55] Speaker 2: and as a result, they were empowered to spread the
[4:58] Speaker 2: gospel around the globe. They fed the hungry, they clothed
[5:03] Speaker 2: the naked, they cared for the sick, They founded centers
[5:08] Speaker 2: of Christian education, hospitals, relief organizations. They left an indelible
[5:16] Speaker 2: mark on their generation. When you think about why we
[5:20] Speaker 2: are today losing the culture wars, its lack of commitment,
[5:26] Speaker 2: its lack of sowing seeds for a harvest, and oftentimes
[5:32] Speaker 2: it is the horrifying notion that giving is for temporary
[5:39] Speaker 2: prosperity or for financial prosperity. If we give, we will
[5:45] Speaker 2: be prosperous and successful. But we do not measure success
[5:50] Speaker 2: and prosperity the way that the world does. The point
[5:54] Speaker 2: is is that we view wealth with eternity in mind.
[6:00] Speaker 2: The scriptures teach us to lead our lives here below
[6:02] Speaker 2: as responsible stewards, whether we have a little or a lot,
[6:07] Speaker 2: so that one day at the judgment God himself will
[6:11] Speaker 2: richly reward us. So go back to the phone lines
[6:14] Speaker 2: and talk to Lee. He's in Arkansas, High Lee.
[6:18] Speaker 4: Hi, Hello, I was wondering if you could help me
[6:21] Speaker 4: with something that a lot of us struggle with, especially
[6:23] Speaker 4: the younger generation. The homosexual agenda is bombarding us all
[6:28] Speaker 4: the time, and I'm wondering if maybe you could use
[6:32] Speaker 4: a little bit of scripture to help us. You know,
[6:34] Speaker 4: make sure, because we ask all the time, you know,
[6:36] Speaker 4: are we doing the Ryan thing by standing against the
[6:38] Speaker 4: homosexual agenda of the same sex marriages? Because there's a
[6:42] Speaker 4: lot of progressive Christianity out there, and it can be
[6:45] Speaker 4: very confusing when you have you know, so called Christians
[6:49] Speaker 4: that stand, you know, in favor of this stuff. You know,
[6:52] Speaker 4: it seems like it's really starting to wear us down.
[6:55] Speaker 4: I was wondering if you had some scripture to encourage
[6:57] Speaker 4: us to keep standing strong against that kind of candice.
[7:01] Speaker 2: I mean, I think you have to look at the
[7:02] Speaker 2: broader issue, and that is participating in the principles of
[7:06] Speaker 2: the Kingdom. This is what we're called to teach people about.
[7:11] Speaker 2: The King has landed in disguise, and he is calling
[7:15] Speaker 2: all of us to a great campaign of sabotage.
[7:19] Speaker 5: As C. S.
[7:19] Speaker 2: Lewis put it, So we are those who are to
[7:23] Speaker 2: say to the world, the King has landed. We can
[7:27] Speaker 2: be co labors with Christ in changing this world. So
[7:32] Speaker 2: it's not about a we they siege mentality against the world.
[7:37] Speaker 2: It's not us boycotting the world. We can't do that.
[7:41] Speaker 2: We're in the world, we're not of the world, and
[7:45] Speaker 2: we transform the world through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
[7:51] Speaker 2: And we're not even encumbered with results. What we are
[7:57] Speaker 2: called to is simply faithful. Now, in terms of biblical clarification,
[8:05] Speaker 2: the Bible teaches us the principles of the King and
[8:07] Speaker 2: the Kingdom, and in fact, the Bible tells us that
[8:11] Speaker 2: those principles when it comes to same sex sexuality are
[8:14] Speaker 2: so clear that even gentiles without access to direct revelation
[8:20] Speaker 2: a scripture have enough evidence in the natural realm to
[8:23] Speaker 2: discover God's aversion to homosexual behavior. And that's why in
[8:28] Speaker 2: the Book of Romans, Paul describes both the perversion and
[8:31] Speaker 2: the penalty. And I think that we do well to
[8:34] Speaker 2: recognize that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality in some
[8:38] Speaker 2: kind of capricious fashion. It carefully defines the borders of
[8:43] Speaker 2: human sexuality so that our joy may be complete. It
[8:47] Speaker 2: doesn't require an advanced degree in physiology to appreciate the
[8:51] Speaker 2: fact that the human body is not designed for homosexual relationships.
[8:56] Speaker 2: So whatever the slogans in the sound bites, they don't
[8:59] Speaker 2: change the sciencecientific reality that same sex sexuality are devastating,
[9:04] Speaker 2: not only from a psychological but also from a physiological perspective.
[9:09] Speaker 2: So what are we to do? Are we to create
[9:12] Speaker 2: some kind of a we they siege mentality. The LGBT
[9:16] Speaker 2: community has donned an iron boot, seeking to crush anyone
[9:23] Speaker 2: that stands in their way. And so we say, okay,
[9:25] Speaker 2: you're going to do that. We're going to show you
[9:27] Speaker 2: we have economic clout and power too, and We're going
[9:31] Speaker 2: to put on an iron boot and we'll crush you back. No,
[9:35] Speaker 2: we ultimately recognize is that the way that culture is
[9:43] Speaker 2: changed is by changing the heart. And we recognize even
[9:48] Speaker 2: more that the problem for lack of transformation in the
[9:53] Speaker 2: culture is that we have not been salt in light
[9:57] Speaker 2: in the culture. Well, we've been a essentially is a
[10:01] Speaker 2: microcosm of the culture. So what we do is we
[10:05] Speaker 2: tell people that they can become believers. Every eye closed,
[10:08] Speaker 2: every head bowed, raise your hand, I saw your hand.
[10:13] Speaker 2: You're now a believer. But if the appetites of the
[10:16] Speaker 2: body do not change, then what you become is a
[10:19] Speaker 2: baptized secular humanist, an imitator of the culture as opposed
[10:26] Speaker 2: to a cultural transformational change agent. And then we divide ourselves.
[10:35] Speaker 2: You wonder why the salt doesn't permeate the water. It's
[10:40] Speaker 2: in ziplock bags, and quite a few of them were compartmentalized.
[10:44] Speaker 2: So we're not affecting the culture. And now when the
[10:48] Speaker 2: culture is going in a different direction, we say, well,
[10:50] Speaker 2: we're going to boycott the culture. I don't think that's
[10:52] Speaker 2: what we want to do. What we want to do
[10:55] Speaker 2: is give ourselves afresh to not just an intellectual head fake,
[10:59] Speaker 2: but rather to the transformational process that not only changes culture,
[11:07] Speaker 2: but first changes us so that we become imitators of Paul,
[11:12] Speaker 2: as he is an imitator of our Lord and Savior,
[11:15] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. Be right back and with more answers.
[11:18] Speaker 1: As the erosion of truth and hostility against Christians continues
[11:23] Speaker 1: to gain momentum, Christians must stand together for life and truth,

[12:06] Speaker 6: from his long defensive truth to his discovery that life
[12:09] Speaker 6: matters more. Essentially, two books in one. Part one equips
[12:13] Speaker 6: Christians to defend the essential truths of the historic Christian faith.
[12:17] Speaker 6: Part two explains why truth is necessary but hardly sufficient,
[12:22] Speaker 6: that the map is not the territory the menu is
[12:24] Speaker 6: not the meal. We are created to experience life to
[12:28] Speaker 6: the full through union with God in Christ. Is there
[12:31] Speaker 6: more to the Christian life than what you are experiencing?

[14:00] Speaker 1: Winston Churchill once declared, you may have to fight when
[14:03] Speaker 1: there is no hope of victory, because it is better
[14:06] Speaker 1: to perish than to live as slaves. Churchill sought to
[14:10] Speaker 1: awaken those who were reluctant to fight against the advancing
[14:13] Speaker 1: Nazi war machine. Today, a spiritual battle is taking place.
[14:18] Speaker 1: Atheism advances in the West, and slavery to secularity is
[14:22] Speaker 1: imprisoning more and more hearts and minds in the United States.
[14:26] Speaker 1: For this reason, CRI's ministry is critical, but we need
[14:30] Speaker 1: people willing to stand for truth along with the financial
[14:34] Speaker 1: provisions to accomplish its mission. Stand with Hank Hanigraph and

[15:44] Speaker 2: thousand and the letters CRI. Back to the phone lines,
[15:47] Speaker 2: we'll talk to Tammy. She's listening in Oklahoma. Hi Tammy,
[15:51] Speaker 2: Hi Hank.
[15:51] Speaker 7: How are you today?
[15:52] Speaker 2: I'm good? Thank you.
[15:54] Speaker 7: I listen to your show all the time when i'm driving,
[15:56] Speaker 7: which is ninety percent of my workday, and it's very
[16:01] Speaker 7: thought provoking, which has brought me to this call today.
[16:06] Speaker 7: I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God.
[16:10] Speaker 7: Breathed by God. My question is why is there not more?
[16:16] Speaker 7: Why did it stop when it stopped? I mean, why
[16:20] Speaker 7: did God quit communicating with us in written form? He
[16:25] Speaker 7: inspired all the writings, and then it just stopped. I
[16:28] Speaker 7: mean they were written on parchment and scrolls and whatnot.
[16:34] Speaker 7: We progress to the age of cell phones and internet.
[16:39] Speaker 7: I mean, why did God stop writing when he did?
[16:41] Speaker 7: Do you what's your thought on that?
[16:43] Speaker 2: Yeah? And of course you can get the Bible on
[16:45] Speaker 2: your cell phone today, on a smartphone, so it's not
[16:49] Speaker 2: just on parchment or papyrus. But yeah, I mean what's
[16:53] Speaker 2: important to realize is that God continues to speak to us.
[16:57] Speaker 2: I mean, the Bible says the heavens declare the glory
[17:00] Speaker 2: of God. The skies proclaim the work of his hands.
[17:04] Speaker 2: Day after day. They pour forth speech night after night.
[17:08] Speaker 2: They proclaim knowledge. There's no speech or language where their
[17:12] Speaker 2: voice is not heard. Their words go out to the
[17:15] Speaker 2: ends of the earth. So God continues to speak to us,
[17:19] Speaker 2: but he will never speak to us in a way
[17:22] Speaker 2: that's other than what He's already given to us, something
[17:27] Speaker 2: that we have a basis for verification with. So what
[17:34] Speaker 2: we have is the very real issue here of authority,
[17:40] Speaker 2: God himself sets up the conditions by which new revelations
[17:45] Speaker 2: must be ratified, and that is confirmation by those who
[17:50] Speaker 2: were eye witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And
[17:54] Speaker 2: therefore with the death of the apostles, there can be
[17:58] Speaker 2: no new revelations. God can reveal things from what He
[18:04] Speaker 2: has already given to us. And let me say that
[18:07] Speaker 2: that is an inexhaustible treasure chest. I continue to dig
[18:13] Speaker 2: into that treasure chest and learn more and more, and
[18:18] Speaker 2: quite frankly, as I go through the scriptures each day
[18:22] Speaker 2: I find out how little I already know about what
[18:26] Speaker 2: could be known. So here I have been studying the
[18:29] Speaker 2: Bible all these years, and I have just a little
[18:32] Speaker 2: wisp of what could be known in the full scope
[18:36] Speaker 2: of things that God has already given to us. So
[18:39] Speaker 2: I don't think it's a matter of having more and more,
[18:42] Speaker 2: but it's taking what we have and applying that in
[18:48] Speaker 2: our lives, knowing it, memorizing it, but not just being
[18:53] Speaker 2: familiar with the menu. You know, you could come up
[18:57] Speaker 2: with new menus, but we have a menu that's inexhaustible
[19:01] Speaker 2: to begin with. But it's not just about knowing that menu.
[19:04] Speaker 2: It's recognizing that that menu points to a meal, and
[19:08] Speaker 2: that's really where the payoff is. The payoff is to
[19:13] Speaker 2: experience the living God. So Christ did not only save
[19:20] Speaker 2: us by his death, he saved us into his life.
[19:24] Speaker 2: He's come that we might have life and have life
[19:27] Speaker 2: more abundantly. So while we're focused rightly on truth, we
[19:32] Speaker 2: must also recognize that life matters more, that we can
[19:37] Speaker 2: have life and have it to the full. And I
[19:41] Speaker 2: think that's where people are missing out. It's not as
[19:44] Speaker 2: though we don't have enough revelation. It is that we
[19:46] Speaker 2: are not taking that revelation and seeing where it points
[19:50] Speaker 2: and then partaking of where it points. And you know
[19:53] Speaker 2: the other thing that's kind of interesting when you think
[19:56] Speaker 2: about this, how in the world would we know know
[20:00] Speaker 2: that someone is authentic unless we had something to test
[20:04] Speaker 2: them by. I was reading through Charisma magazine and quite frankly,
[20:09] Speaker 2: it put me into almost a state of depression. I
[20:14] Speaker 2: just could not believe the truckloads of heresy in one magazine.
[20:20] Speaker 2: And I kept thinking as I was reading through that magazine, Wow,
[20:26] Speaker 2: if only people would test what is being said in
[20:31] Speaker 2: light of what God has already said. Now, the new
[20:36] Speaker 2: sightseers of today's generation. I mean, they say all kinds
[20:40] Speaker 2: of crazy things, but if you look at the Apostles,
[20:44] Speaker 2: we don't say what they say is crazy, because, first
[20:47] Speaker 2: of all, there's a perspicuity, there's a clearness and consistency
[20:53] Speaker 2: within itself. When you look at the scriptures, you also
[20:58] Speaker 2: have those who were eye witnesses of Christ's majesty in
[21:03] Speaker 2: contestify to the main and plain things, the fact that
[21:06] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ is God, the fact that Jesus rose from
[21:11] Speaker 2: the dead, that Jesus Christ is coming again. How many
[21:15] Speaker 2: people today know the Ten Commandments or the twelve Apostles
[21:20] Speaker 2: much less, wanting more and more sensational stuff. You know.
[21:24] Speaker 2: Remember the big blood Moon's phase. I mean everybody is
[21:27] Speaker 2: talking about that. Maybe big deal out of it, and
[21:30] Speaker 2: that phase will pass it up. It's this titillation that
[21:33] Speaker 2: really distracts people. It's not that we don't have enough. Okay,
[21:39] Speaker 2: well tell me appreciate your call. Back to the phone lines.
[21:41] Speaker 2: We'll talk to Karen as she's listening in British Columbia.
[21:43] Speaker 2: Candidate Hi, Karen, Oh, okay, thank you for taking my call.
[21:47] Speaker 2: You're welcome, Karen.
[21:48] Speaker 5: It sounds to me is if you might have partially
[21:50] Speaker 5: answered my question actually when you were talking to the
[21:53] Speaker 5: ladies just previously called uh huh. My question has to
[21:56] Speaker 5: do with what is a prophet in your understanding of
[22:00] Speaker 5: and what they do. I'd like to know, like, who
[22:02] Speaker 5: is the prophets, what do they do, when are they
[22:05] Speaker 5: in a lifetime, and where are they generally located.
[22:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, that's.
[22:10] Speaker 2: A good question. I would say that the New Testament
[22:13] Speaker 2: has an idea of prophecy that's different from what you
[22:17] Speaker 2: find in the Biblical revelation. So in the Biblical revelation,
[22:21] Speaker 2: you have prophets in the Old Testament like Jeremiah or
[22:25] Speaker 2: Isaiah or Ezekiel, and they were spokespersons for God. They
[22:31] Speaker 2: would speak in God's word, would be on their tongue
[22:34] Speaker 2: as it were, and they were ratified within the context
[22:39] Speaker 2: of history. So if Isaiah said something would happen, it
[22:43] Speaker 2: happened precisely as he said it would happen. And you
[22:46] Speaker 2: know that God was speaking through these prophets, because as
[22:50] Speaker 2: God himself said, I told you these things before they happen,
[22:54] Speaker 2: so when they happen, you would believe. So the apostle
[23:00] Speaker 2: and the prophets of the Old and the New Testament
[23:04] Speaker 2: were infallible, and because they were infallible, and because you
[23:09] Speaker 2: can't take what they said and punted off to good
[23:12] Speaker 2: guessing or common sense or luck, we can have great
[23:16] Speaker 2: assurance that these are the words of God. Now in
[23:19] Speaker 2: the New Testament, Paul also talks about prophesying, but now
[23:24] Speaker 2: he's not saying, let's be another little Isaiah or Ezekiel.
[23:29] Speaker 2: He's saying, what we need to do is prophesy in
[23:34] Speaker 2: the sense of strengthening, encouraging, equipping, edifying, exhorting the body
[23:43] Speaker 2: of Christ. So what we do is we speak God's
[23:48] Speaker 2: words after him or think his thoughts after him, as
[23:54] Speaker 2: opposed to coming up with some new prophecy about what's
[23:59] Speaker 2: going to happen in the So prophecy is not foretelling
[24:04] Speaker 2: the future. It is forth telling. So we already know
[24:08] Speaker 2: that the Bible is true because it corresponds to reality.
[24:12] Speaker 2: What God said would happen did happen, So we have
[24:14] Speaker 2: a reliable source. God, however, is not telling us anything
[24:19] Speaker 2: about what's going to happen in the future. So we
[24:22] Speaker 2: don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. We don't know
[24:24] Speaker 2: what's going to happen next month. We don't know when
[24:26] Speaker 2: Jesus is going to appear again a second time. God
[24:29] Speaker 2: doesn't tell us any of that. What he tells us
[24:32] Speaker 2: to be faithful, to continue to forthtell to encourage, exhort
[24:37] Speaker 2: at a fine equip.
[24:39] Speaker 5: Okay, well, that answers my question for now, and I
[24:41] Speaker 5: really appreciate that. Thank you so much.
