[0:07] Speaker 1: Welcome to the Bible answer Man Broadcast with Christian Research
[0:11] Speaker 1: Institute President Hank Canagraph. Our mission at CRII is not

[0:31] Speaker 1: often not a second chance to get those answers right,
[0:34] Speaker 1: to learn more, or to find resources to help you
[0:37] Speaker 1: grow in grace. Call eight eight eight seven thousand CRI.
[0:42] Speaker 1: That's eight eight eight seven thousand two seven four, or
[0:46] Speaker 1: go to our website at equip dot org. That's equip
[0:51] Speaker 1: dot org. The following program was pre recorded, and now
[0:57] Speaker 1: here's Hank Cannagraph.
[0:58] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Indy, and let's go right
[1:00] Speaker 2: to our callers. First up, Joel listening on Fresno, California.
[1:03] Speaker 3: Hi, Joel, Hi, Thank thank you for taking my call pleasure.
[1:08] Speaker 3: I want to ask you a question about Luke sixteen,
[1:11] Speaker 3: about the rich Man in Lazarus, Yeah, on twenty four
[1:16] Speaker 3: when he tormented in the flame. Is that a metaphor?
[1:19] Speaker 3: Or is that a is he really in pain?
[1:21] Speaker 2: No, this is a metaphor with sharp teeth. It points
[1:26] Speaker 2: to a graphic reality. And the graphic reality is the
[1:30] Speaker 2: torment of being apart from God's goodness and his grace.
[1:36] Speaker 2: If you took this as literal fire, then you would
[1:40] Speaker 2: say that the fire would point to annihilation because fire consumes.
[1:48] Speaker 2: So we know that it is everlasting torment, and so
[1:53] Speaker 2: it's not as though you're annihilated or consumed, but you
[1:55] Speaker 2: are everlastingly in torment. And this is variously described in
[2:00] Speaker 2: the scripture. Sometimes it is as in Jude thirteen, Blackest
[2:05] Speaker 2: Darkness Forever. These are all graphic metaphors with sharp teeth
[2:11] Speaker 2: pointing to the reality of being in torment, not some
[2:16] Speaker 2: kind of torture. No, that's not what it has to
[2:18] Speaker 2: do with at all. What it has to do with
[2:20] Speaker 2: is the torment of being separated from the goodness and
[2:24] Speaker 2: grace of God because you don't want a relationship with him.
[2:28] Speaker 3: It speaks about the flames to it in Isaiah sixty six,
[2:32] Speaker 3: twenty four in Mark nine four, yeah and okay on
[2:38] Speaker 3: this one. On twenty four on Luke and he tells
[2:42] Speaker 3: them about dipping his finger in the water to cool
[2:44] Speaker 3: down his mouth. That sounds like he's in pain.
[2:48] Speaker 2: That's exactly right. Yeah, it is the torment of being.
[2:53] Speaker 2: In other words, again, this is a metaphor pointing to
[2:56] Speaker 2: a graphic reality. If I say it's raining cats and dogs,
[3:00] Speaker 2: the metaphor points to a graphic reality. It is raining
[3:06] Speaker 2: hard in the same way fire. You can imagine from
[3:09] Speaker 2: an earthly perspective what it would be if you were burned.
[3:16] Speaker 2: It's one of the most horrendous pains and torments you
[3:20] Speaker 2: can imagine. So that metaphor is used to point to
[3:25] Speaker 2: a far more ghastly and graphic reality, and that is
[3:31] Speaker 2: being separated from the goodness and grace of God. Again,
[3:35] Speaker 2: we do not want to take this metaphor and make
[3:37] Speaker 2: it walk on all four us. Otherwise we'll fall into
[3:41] Speaker 2: the error of annihilationism, because flames obviously consume.
[3:46] Speaker 3: When Abraham I was talking to him, was he there
[3:50] Speaker 3: with him talking to him?
[3:53] Speaker 2: Well, in this particular story, the story is about being
[3:57] Speaker 2: in Abraham's bosom or paradise. So Jesus is talking about
[4:02] Speaker 2: a situation where you have a rich man that dies
[4:06] Speaker 2: and a beggar Lazarus who lies by his gait. He
[4:10] Speaker 2: too dies the one had everything in this life, the
[4:14] Speaker 2: other nothing in this life, and then the roles are
[4:16] Speaker 2: reversed in eternity, and so you have the rich man
[4:19] Speaker 2: in torment, in Lazarus in the Abraham's bosom or paradise.
[4:24] Speaker 2: Abraham's bosom or paradise is a metaphor, right, It's a
[4:29] Speaker 2: metaphor which points to being in the presence of God.
[4:33] Speaker 2: So Jesus is using the metaphor in the language to
[4:39] Speaker 2: talk about the reality of separation from God for all eternity,
[4:44] Speaker 2: and the importance to not postpone repentance until it's too late.
[4:49] Speaker 2: And that's why, as the story goes on, the rich
[4:54] Speaker 2: man paying attention to Lazarus too late, and perceiving the
[4:58] Speaker 2: unbridgeable chasm be between Heaven and Hell too late, and
[5:02] Speaker 2: purposing to preach to his brothers too late. He heeds
[5:05] Speaker 2: the testimony, the law and the prophets too late. He
[5:08] Speaker 2: postpones repentance until too late. So that's the point that's
[5:13] Speaker 2: being driven across by the story that Jesus Christ is
[5:16] Speaker 2: telling here. I've written on Hell in great detail of
[5:19] Speaker 2: my book Resurrection, available through the Ministry of the Christian
[5:22] Speaker 2: Research Institute. Let's go right back to our phone calls.
[5:25] Speaker 2: Richard next listening on Fayetteville, North Carolina. Hi, Richard, Hey, how.
[5:30] Speaker 4: You doing, sir?
[5:31] Speaker 5: Thank you for taking my call.
[5:32] Speaker 2: You're welcome.
[5:34] Speaker 5: What does your take on predestination?
[5:37] Speaker 2: Well, all Christians believe in predestination because the Bible teaches predestination,
[5:41] Speaker 2: simple as that. And the debate in the Christian community
[5:44] Speaker 2: is not whether God predestines, but the basis on which
[5:48] Speaker 2: he predestines. There are some Christians that say that God
[5:52] Speaker 2: predestines based on his foreknowledge, so he looks down the
[5:54] Speaker 2: quarder of time, sees what you will do, and chooses
[5:56] Speaker 2: you on that basis. Other people say that no, God
[6:00] Speaker 2: predestines for his own unique, sovereign purposes and predilections. So again,
[6:06] Speaker 2: the debate is on what basis does God predestined? And
[6:10] Speaker 2: that is a pretty robust debate within the Christian community.
[6:14] Speaker 6: So you would say it's a in house debate.
[6:16] Speaker 2: Well it isn't in house debate. Yeah, we can debate
[6:19] Speaker 2: it vigorously. Ultimately, it's not a deal breaker, but it
[6:21] Speaker 2: is a very important debate because there are people who
[6:25] Speaker 2: believe in libertarian freedom and there are people who believe
[6:30] Speaker 2: in compatibilistic or circumstantial freedom, and those are very significant differences,
[6:35] Speaker 2: and therefore they should require our utmost attention. And this
[6:41] Speaker 2: is all part of learning to read the Bible for
[6:44] Speaker 2: all it's worth, because if you do, then you can
[6:46] Speaker 2: come to a true valuation of things on issues like this.
[6:50] Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, sir, I appreciate that.
[6:53] Speaker 1: Thank you, you got it.
[6:54] Speaker 2: Thank you so much for your call. Let's go. Running
[6:56] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines. Talk to Mark listening on Vancouver,
[6:59] Speaker 2: British Columbia can high Mark.
[7:01] Speaker 4: Hi, Hank. My question is about Christian morality in non
[7:06] Speaker 4: Western countries. I've heard it said before that in Western
[7:09] Speaker 4: countries the freedoms we have and is all built on
[7:13] Speaker 4: the DNA of the Bible, and that we have our
[7:16] Speaker 4: Christian heritage to thank for all the freedoms and things
[7:19] Speaker 4: we enjoy here and the fact that we're so civilized
[7:21] Speaker 4: is the result of that. And wondering how to answer
[7:25] Speaker 4: when people bring up countries such as Japan, for example,
[7:29] Speaker 4: which is a very very civilized country but in the
[7:32] Speaker 4: East and without any kind of Christian heritage, how do
[7:35] Speaker 4: we answer that?
[7:36] Speaker 2: Well, are a couple of things that you can say, truly,
[7:39] Speaker 2: we know that everyone, no matter where they live in
[7:43] Speaker 2: the world and what culture they find themselves, is without excuse.
[7:48] Speaker 2: The reason is is God has not only given us
[7:51] Speaker 2: an external witness, the heavens declaring the glory of God,
[7:54] Speaker 2: but also an internal witness, which is to say, God
[7:58] Speaker 2: has written a knowledge of himself upon the tablet of
[8:01] Speaker 2: our consciousness. And therefore we, as human beings, are without excuse.
[8:05] Speaker 2: We can't say, well, I didn't know any better. We
[8:08] Speaker 2: have that knowledge written on our hearts, and therefore we
[8:13] Speaker 2: are culpable for the knowledge we have. But it is
[8:17] Speaker 2: also true that biblical values, a biblical worldview, dramatically changed
[8:24] Speaker 2: the world. And we can see right now in the
[8:27] Speaker 2: West where we stand in the shadow of the Bible
[8:31] Speaker 2: as opposed to standing in the light of the Bible.
[8:34] Speaker 2: And as a result of that, many of the values
[8:38] Speaker 2: that we once held to are quickly being eroded. And
[8:43] Speaker 2: we're looking at the rise and fall of a civilization,
[8:49] Speaker 2: a civilization that rose and now is declining rapidly. Now
[8:53] Speaker 2: we can't say that it is axiomatic that the civilization
[8:57] Speaker 2: will decline. We can't look at the stock market drop well.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Because of that, we're doomed. The end discompany. No, we
[9:03] Speaker 2: don't know, because there can be times of revival as well.
[9:06] Speaker 2: But right now, many of the freedoms, many of the
[9:10] Speaker 2: dignities that women used to have in the West are
[9:13] Speaker 2: being eroded substantially as a result of standing outside of
[9:17] Speaker 2: the light of the Bible, in the shadow of the Bible.
[9:21] Speaker 2: Never forget that it was the application of Biblical principles
[9:26] Speaker 2: that caused Western women to be the most powerful women
[9:31] Speaker 2: on the planet, women who were considered ontologically equal to men,
[9:37] Speaker 2: and therefore men could no longer treat them as they
[9:40] Speaker 2: were treated in other civilizations. Think India, for example, where
[9:45] Speaker 2: you could burn a woman on a funeral pyre because
[9:49] Speaker 2: the moment a man died, she had no value. Her
[9:52] Speaker 2: value was associated to that of a man, so she
[9:55] Speaker 2: was the chattel of a man. That was true even
[9:58] Speaker 2: in first century Judaism, a woman was on the lowest
[10:01] Speaker 2: rung of the socioeconomic ladder. It is Biblical principles that
[10:06] Speaker 2: turn the tide there. So the fact is Biblical principles
[10:12] Speaker 2: and their application make all the difference in the world.
[10:15] Speaker 2: But that is not to say that someone in Japan
[10:18] Speaker 2: or someone in another culture that's involved in animism or
[10:21] Speaker 2: ancestor worship or some kind of world religion that doesn't
[10:25] Speaker 2: correspond to reality, is in a state of having an excuse. No,
[10:29] Speaker 2: they don't have an excuse because the law is written
[10:32] Speaker 2: upon the tablet of their consciousness.
[10:34] Speaker 4: So they've just been acting out in this society what
[10:37] Speaker 4: they already instinctively know, even though they don't have a
[10:40] Speaker 4: Christian heritage. Is that correct.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Yes, objective morals and values exist, and everyone, whether Christian
[10:46] Speaker 2: or Pagan, has access to these objective morals and values.
[10:51] Speaker 4: No, thank you very much to answer my question.
[10:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, get thank you so much for your call. We
[10:55] Speaker 2: are coming to a station break to be right back
[10:57] Speaker 2: with more of your questions. Please don't touch that dial.

[12:04] Speaker 1: If the Book of Revelation has become an international obsession,
[12:07] Speaker 1: the result has been rampant misreading of scripture, bad theology,
[12:11] Speaker 1: and even bad politics and foreign policy. In the Apocalypse Code,
[12:16] Speaker 1: find out what the Bible really says about the end
[12:18] Speaker 1: times and why it matters today. Hank Canagraph argues that
[12:22] Speaker 1: the key to understanding the Last Book of the Bible
[12:25] Speaker 1: is the other sixty five books of the Bible, not
[12:28] Speaker 1: current events or recent history. The Apocalypse Code offers sane
[12:32] Speaker 1: answers to some very controversial questions, such as what does
[12:36] Speaker 1: it mean to take the Book of Revelation literally? Who
[12:39] Speaker 1: are the Antichrist and the Great Horror of Babylon? And
[12:42] Speaker 1: what is the real meaning of six hundred and sixty six?

[15:12] Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Randy, and let's go right back
[15:14] Speaker 2: to the phone lines. Talk next to Ron in Indiana.
[15:18] Speaker 5: Hi, Ron, good talking to you, Hank, and God bless
[15:21] Speaker 5: your ministry.
[15:22] Speaker 3: Thanks.
[15:23] Speaker 5: I would ask could you share with this the position
[15:26] Speaker 5: in the Bible and abortion.
[15:28] Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I think, first and foremost, we have to
[15:30] Speaker 2: recognize what the Bible saysn' saw one point thirty nine.
[15:34] Speaker 2: You created my inmost being. You nit me together at
[15:37] Speaker 2: my mother's womb. I praise you because I'm fearfully and
[15:40] Speaker 2: wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well.
[15:45] Speaker 2: My frame was not hidden from you when I was
[15:47] Speaker 2: made in the secret place, when I was woven together
[15:50] Speaker 2: in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my
[15:53] Speaker 2: unformed body. In the Christian worldview, when a woman gives birth,
[15:58] Speaker 2: she doesn't give birth to a mere body. She gives
[16:01] Speaker 2: birth to a human being, which means a body soul unity,
[16:07] Speaker 2: and the moment of consumption you have a person. That
[16:11] Speaker 2: person doesn't have a fully developed personality, but does have
[16:17] Speaker 2: full personhood from the moment of conception. So we believe
[16:22] Speaker 2: as Christians on the basis of the Bible, that the
[16:25] Speaker 2: child who would be terminated through an abortion is the
[16:29] Speaker 2: product of human parents, has a totally distinct human genetic code,
[16:35] Speaker 2: and that child is a child and will grow into adult,
[16:42] Speaker 2: and that you are a human however, in all stages
[16:45] Speaker 2: of your development.
[16:47] Speaker 5: Yes, I agree with everything you said, and that it's
[16:52] Speaker 5: just sad that our country would be in the position
[16:55] Speaker 5: that we would support institutions that have abortion, and I
[17:01] Speaker 5: just wanted to bring that up. Thank you so much, Hank,
[17:04] Speaker 5: you got it.
[17:04] Speaker 2: And I want to make a couple of comments about that,
[17:07] Speaker 2: because this is a silent holocaust in our midst and
[17:11] Speaker 2: it shouldn't simply pass bias. We need to be aware
[17:17] Speaker 2: of what's going on. Those who continue to fight legislation
[17:22] Speaker 2: restricting abortion are in reality not pro choice. They're singularly
[17:27] Speaker 2: pro murdered. And while rhetoric has served to camouflage the
[17:32] Speaker 2: carnage of abortion, it remains the painful killing of an
[17:37] Speaker 2: innocent human being. I say abortion is painful in that
[17:42] Speaker 2: the methods employed to kill a preborn child involved burning, smothering, dismembering,
[17:49] Speaker 2: and crushing, and these procedures are executed on live babies
[17:55] Speaker 2: who have not been anesticized. Abortion involves killing the zygote,
[18:07] Speaker 2: which fulfills the criteria needed to establish the existence of
[18:11] Speaker 2: biological life in other words, as metabolism development, the ability
[18:17] Speaker 2: to react to stimuli cell reproduction, it is terminated and planned.
[18:27] Speaker 2: Parent had founder Margaret Sanger acknowledged this point when she said,
[18:33] Speaker 2: the most merciful thing a large family can do for
[18:36] Speaker 2: one of its infant members is kill it. Thankfully, in
[18:45] Speaker 2: God's economy, there's hope for those who have experienced the
[18:51] Speaker 2: ravages of abortion. Not only can we receive God's forgiveness
[18:56] Speaker 2: in the here and now, but they can yet look
[19:01] Speaker 2: forward to the ecstasy of reunited with their unborn loved
[19:06] Speaker 2: ones in eternity. We lost a little preborn child, baby Grace,
[19:15] Speaker 2: and because of the biblical paradigm that we embrace, we
[19:21] Speaker 2: had a full blown funeral for her though she was
[19:24] Speaker 2: a preborn child, and we know with certainty that one
[19:31] Speaker 2: day we will feel her embrace and she is a
[19:37] Speaker 2: part of our family and she will forever be a
[19:43] Speaker 2: person in eternity. The DNA that made Grace Grace is
[19:49] Speaker 2: the DNA that will make Grace Grace for all eternity,
[19:53] Speaker 2: and she will flower into the perfect person that she
[19:59] Speaker 2: was designed to be. That ultimately is the story of resurrection.
[20:05] Speaker 2: And during this broadcast, we talk about reading the Bible
[20:10] Speaker 2: for all it's worth and mining it for all its wealth.
[20:15] Speaker 2: And it's important to recognize that there is a time
[20:18] Speaker 2: coming for every one of us in which we will
[20:23] Speaker 2: be resurrected, not just believers, but unbelievers as well. They
[20:29] Speaker 2: will be resurrected physically. Jesus told us that emphatically, clearly,
[20:37] Speaker 2: without hesitation and without contradiction. But those who are resurrected
[20:43] Speaker 2: apart from Christ will experience a christless eternity, which is
[20:52] Speaker 2: what hell is. Those who are resurrected in Christ will
[21:00] Speaker 2: experience the physical Master, the one who died on our behalf,
[21:06] Speaker 2: to reconcile us to him. For time and for it.
[21:10] Speaker 2: We will physically experience him, We will commune with him,
[21:16] Speaker 2: we will grow to love him more, and we will
[21:20] Speaker 2: experience what He has prepared for us, a new heaven
[21:25] Speaker 2: and a new Earth. No more death, mourning, crying, or pain.
[21:32] Speaker 2: For the old order things will have passed away. Behold,
[21:35] Speaker 2: all things will have become new. And the picture Revelation
[21:40] Speaker 2: is poignant and profound. We see the river, the water
[21:44] Speaker 2: of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne
[21:46] Speaker 2: of God and of the Lamb, down the middle of
[21:49] Speaker 2: the great street of the city. On each side of
[21:52] Speaker 2: the river stood the Tree of Life, bearing twelve crops
[21:55] Speaker 2: of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves
[21:58] Speaker 2: of the tree are for the health of the nations.
[22:02] Speaker 2: The picture presented in Revelation is that of paradise lost
[22:08] Speaker 2: becoming paradise restored. That is the hope of the believer.
[22:17] Speaker 2: It is not the hope of the materialist. It is
[22:23] Speaker 2: the hope of the believer who does believe in the
[22:26] Speaker 2: material resurrection. I've written about this in my book Resurrection
[22:31] Speaker 2: as well as has God spoken back to the phone line.
[22:34] Speaker 2: We'll talk to Lewis next. He's listening in Houston, Texas.
[22:36] Speaker 6: Hi Lewis, Hi, mister Hank Hanigraf, how are you.
[22:39] Speaker 2: I'm good.
[22:41] Speaker 6: That's great. I had a question in regards to when
[22:44] Speaker 6: I was thirteen, I got saved and baptizing the name
[22:47] Speaker 6: and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Now I'm being
[22:51] Speaker 6: going to this Pentecostal church and they say I have
[22:54] Speaker 6: to be baptized in Christ name, and I got scared
[22:57] Speaker 6: and I did it, and they said the only way
[23:01] Speaker 6: to go to heaven is if you speak in tongues
[23:04] Speaker 6: and have the Holy Spirit in you. So I'm nervous.
[23:07] Speaker 6: I don't know if I'm going to write church or
[23:11] Speaker 6: anything like that. And they said there's no word called
[23:14] Speaker 6: the Trinity in the Bible, so I'm just kind of
[23:18] Speaker 6: confused as to what I'm doing.
[23:20] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:20] Speaker 2: Well, first of all, you're in occultic movement, and their
[23:24] Speaker 2: error is one that starts with another air. The belief
[23:28] Speaker 2: that one must be baptized only in the name of
[23:31] Speaker 2: Jesus leads these people to the further error that Jesus
[23:34] Speaker 2: is himself the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
[23:38] Speaker 2: So they don't hold to one God revealed in three
[23:40] Speaker 2: persons who are eternally distinct, but rather to three manifestations
[23:45] Speaker 2: of one God revealed in Jesus. And they also think
[23:49] Speaker 2: that the doctrine of the trinity is pagan polytheistic philosophy.
[23:54] Speaker 2: In truth, the word trinity isn't in the Bible, but
[23:57] Speaker 2: that's not the point. A trinity is a word that
[23:59] Speaker 2: you use to codify something that is in the Bible.
[24:02] Speaker 2: And what is in the Bible is that there's only
[24:05] Speaker 2: one God before me. No God was formed, nor will
[24:09] Speaker 2: there be one after me, says the God of the
[24:13] Speaker 2: Old Testament, which is the God of the Bible. And
[24:16] Speaker 2: then you also have, as you read through scripture, the
[24:20] Speaker 2: certainty that the Father is God, the Son is God,
[24:25] Speaker 2: and the Holy Spirit is God. And there are not
[24:27] Speaker 2: three manifestations of one God, but they are three persons
[24:33] Speaker 2: within the Godhead. In other words, the personal distinctions are
[24:39] Speaker 2: eternal distinctions. The Father never becomes a son and the
[24:43] Speaker 2: Son never becomes the Holy Spirit. But that is precisely
[24:46] Speaker 2: what they believe. Not only that, but as you've pointed out,
[24:50] Speaker 2: they hold to many legalistic prescriptions, including the test of
[24:54] Speaker 2: re baptism by their formula with evidence of speaking in tongues.
[24:58] Speaker 2: No tongues, no salvation, and that has placed tremendous socio
[25:02] Speaker 2: psychological pressure on adherence to conjure up the gift of
[25:06] Speaker 2: tongues because those who do not speak in tongues are
[25:09] Speaker 2: thought to be lacking in faith or even entirely unrepentant.
[25:14] Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's why I came in, because you know,
[25:16] Speaker 6: I got baptized and I don't speak in tongues. But
[25:20] Speaker 6: or so, I was like, I'm scared that I'm not
[25:22] Speaker 6: going to heaven.
[25:23] Speaker 2: Well, you're going to heaven if you believe that Jesus
[25:26] Speaker 2: Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. No
[25:28] Speaker 2: one comes to the Father but by me. If you
[25:31] Speaker 2: realize you're a sinner, repent of your sin, and receive
[25:34] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, then you're going to
[25:36] Speaker 2: heaven because your salvation is not based on our fickal feelings,
[25:42] Speaker 2: but rather on his certain promise.
[25:46] Speaker 6: Okay, should I stay in that church?
[25:48] Speaker 2: No? No, absolutely, do not stay in that church. Find
