On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/14/26), Hank concludes his overview of the days of Holy Week, arriving at Pascha—also known as Easter. It is the day in which the body of Christ worldwide celebrates the ultimate game-changer—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “If I face hardships in life for merely human reasons,” wrote Paul in his first letter to the Corinthian Christians, “what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’ If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.” Without resurrection, Christianity crumbles. Thus, in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, the apostle Paul provides a four-part argument underscoring the irrevocable reality of Christ’s resurrection. Of one thing Hank has become certain—if twenty-first-century Christians would grasp the reality of resurrection like first-century Christians did, their lives would be totally transformed.

[0:07] Speaker 1: Welcome to the Bible Answerman Broadcast with your host, Hank Anigraph.
[0:12] Speaker 1: The Bible answer Man is the radio ministry of the
[0:15] Speaker 1: Christian Research Institute designed to equip believers to defend their
[0:19] Speaker 1: faith and become true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ,
[0:23] Speaker 1: because life and truth matter. Our phone number is eight
[0:27] Speaker 1: eight eight seven thousand CRII. You can find us on
[0:31] Speaker 1: the internet at equip dot org. The following program was
[0:35] Speaker 1: pre recorded, and now to begin today's broadcast, here's Hank
[0:40] Speaker 1: Canagraph and.
[0:41] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Andy. You can also contact
[0:43] Speaker 2: us via the mail at Box City five hundred, Charlotte,
[0:47] Speaker 2: North Carolina, zip code two eight two seven one. The
[0:52] Speaker 2: resources that we talk about on the Bible answer Man
[0:54] Speaker 2: broadcast can be found on the web at equipp dot org.
[0:59] Speaker 2: And at length to remind everyone that I finished a
[1:03] Speaker 2: series of Bible answer Man YouTube videos, and these videos
[1:09] Speaker 2: chronicle Holy Week from the Resurrection of Lazarus all the
[1:18] Speaker 2: way through the Last Supper, Christ's crucifixion, his descent into Hades,
[1:27] Speaker 2: and his resurrection, which is precisely what I want to
[1:31] Speaker 2: talk about on this broadcast because on Pasca on Easter
[1:39] Speaker 2: we find the culmination of the holiest week of the year,
[1:46] Speaker 2: the week that marks the capstone in the arch of Christianity.
[1:53] Speaker 2: Nothing more important. And you and I, I, along with
[2:01] Speaker 2: the body of Christ worldwide, celebrate this day as the
[2:09] Speaker 2: ultimate game changer. If I face hardships in this life
[2:15] Speaker 2: for merely human reasons, said Paul in his first letter
[2:20] Speaker 2: to the Corinthian Christians, what in the world am I gaining?
[2:27] Speaker 2: If the dead are not raised? Why not just eat
[2:31] Speaker 2: and drink for tomorrow we die? In other words, says Paul,
[2:39] Speaker 2: if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile.
[2:46] Speaker 2: You are as yet in your sin. Then those also
[2:52] Speaker 2: who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only
[2:58] Speaker 2: for this life we have in Christ, well you might
[3:03] Speaker 2: as well be pitied more than anyone who has ever
[3:08] Speaker 2: walked upon the face of the earth. The bottom line
[3:13] Speaker 2: is this, without resurrection, Christianity crumbles. And thus, in First Corinthians,
[3:22] Speaker 2: chapter fifteen, the apostle Paul provides a four part argument
[3:29] Speaker 2: which underscores the irrevocable reality of our Lord's resurrection. And
[3:38] Speaker 2: this is so important today. If I have some time
[3:43] Speaker 2: to get to this in the second part of the program,
[3:46] Speaker 2: I will. It's important for many reasons, including something that
[3:51] Speaker 2: happened just a few years ago. This was on the
[3:55] Speaker 2: day before Good Friday. It was Uncomedy Central featured best
[4:01] Speaker 2: selling author Bart Ermin making light of Christ's agony on
[4:06] Speaker 2: the Cross. And of course, if Christ did not suffer
[4:11] Speaker 2: fatal torment, there's no need whatsoever to talk about resurrection.
[4:20] Speaker 2: And that's why Paul begins by passing on a credle
[4:25] Speaker 2: affirmation that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.
[4:32] Speaker 2: And again, this is not only a well established fact
[4:36] Speaker 2: of antiquity, but in our modern age of scientific enlightenment,
[4:41] Speaker 2: there is virtual consensus among New Testament scholars, both conservative
[4:48] Speaker 2: and liberal, that Christ died on the cross, that he
[4:53] Speaker 2: was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, and
[4:58] Speaker 2: that his death drove his disciples to despair. So the
[5:04] Speaker 2: first part of the argument is that Christ did indeed
[5:08] Speaker 2: suffer fatal torment. Secondly, Paul argues that Jesus was buried
[5:16] Speaker 2: and that he was raised on the third Day according
[5:20] Speaker 2: to the scriptures. In point of fact, the earliest Jewish
[5:26] Speaker 2: response to the resurrection of our Lord presupposes the empty tomb,
[5:35] Speaker 2: and in the centuries following the resurrection of our Lord.
[5:40] Speaker 2: The fact of the empty tomb was forwarded by the
[5:45] Speaker 2: friends and foes of our Lord alike. Of one thing,
[5:51] Speaker 2: we can be absolutely positive. Early Christianity could not have
[5:59] Speaker 2: survived an identifiable tomb that contained the relics of our
[6:05] Speaker 2: Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ball's third argument is that
[6:11] Speaker 2: the apostles did not merely propagate Christ's teachings. They were
[6:18] Speaker 2: absolutely positive that He had appeared to them in the
[6:22] Speaker 2: flesh after his death and after his resurrection, and as such,
[6:28] Speaker 2: he points out that Christ appeared to more than five
[6:33] Speaker 2: hundred of the Brothers at the same time, most of
[6:36] Speaker 2: whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. It
[6:41] Speaker 2: would have been one thing to attribute these supernatural experiences
[6:47] Speaker 2: to people who had already died, quite another to attribute
[6:53] Speaker 2: them to multitudes alive in subject to cross examination. The
[7:01] Speaker 2: fourth and perhaps the most important reason given by the
[7:07] Speaker 2: apostle Paul is transformation, and Paul begins by drawing attention
[7:15] Speaker 2: to how he himself was transformed. He abdicated his position
[7:21] Speaker 2: as an esteemed Jewish leader, as a rabbi, as a pharisee,
[7:29] Speaker 2: one who had in fact studied under Gamelion, the leading
[7:36] Speaker 2: authority of the Sanhedrin. He gave up his avowed mission
[7:41] Speaker 2: to stamp out every vestige of what he considered at
[7:47] Speaker 2: that time to be the insidious heresy of Christianity, and
[7:53] Speaker 2: in the end he paid the ultimate price for his faith.
[8:01] Speaker 2: He was martyred. Moreover, in the span of just a
[8:05] Speaker 2: few hundred years, a band of seemingly insignificant believers succeeded
[8:15] Speaker 2: in turning an empire right side up. Well. While it's
[8:20] Speaker 2: conceivable that the disciples would have faced torture and vilification
[8:24] Speaker 2: and even cruel death for what they fervently believed to
[8:29] Speaker 2: be true, it is inconceivable that they would have been
[8:35] Speaker 2: willing to die for what they knew to be a lie.
[8:41] Speaker 2: And I think it's also worth noting here that the
[8:44] Speaker 2: Jewish rits of Passover and baptism were radically transformed by
[8:51] Speaker 2: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In place of the Passover meal,
[8:57] Speaker 2: believers celebrated the Lord's Supper. Think about it, Jesus had
[9:05] Speaker 2: just been slaughtered in grotesque and in humiliating fashion, and yet,
[9:13] Speaker 2: and yet the disciples partook of the pure body of
[9:18] Speaker 2: the precious blood of Christ with great joy. Only the
[9:23] Speaker 2: Resurrection can account for that. Baptism, too, was radically transformed.
[9:30] Speaker 2: Prior to the Resurrection, Gentile converts to Judaism were baptized
[9:36] Speaker 2: in the name of the God of Israel. After the Resurrection,
[9:42] Speaker 2: converts to Christianity were baptized in the name of Jesus,
[9:47] Speaker 2: and in doing so they equated Jesus with the God
[9:53] Speaker 2: of Israel. Of one thing, I have become absolutely certain.
[10:00] Speaker 2: If twenty first century Christians would grasp the reality of
[10:04] Speaker 2: resurrection like first century Christians did, their lies would be
[10:10] Speaker 2: totally transformed. Christ's resurrection was a historical event that took
[10:16] Speaker 2: place in our time space continuum, and likewise, your resurrection
[10:22] Speaker 2: will be a historical event that takes place when Christ
[10:27] Speaker 2: physically returns and transforms our mortal bodies. When we come
[10:34] Speaker 2: back from the break to deal with some of the
[10:38] Speaker 2: ridicule which has been heaped upon the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
[10:45] Speaker 2: remember you and I are called to be always ready
[10:49] Speaker 2: to give an answer, a reason for the hope that
[10:51] Speaker 2: lies within us, the hope of resurrection, and to do
[10:54] Speaker 2: so with gentleness and with respect. Would be right back
[11:00] Speaker 2: with more of the Poplansvent broadcast.
[11:03] Speaker 1: The famous British apologist GK. Chesterton once noted, the true
[11:08] Speaker 1: soldier fights not because he hates what is in front
[11:11] Speaker 1: of him, but because he loves what is behind him.
[11:13] Speaker 1: Because at CRII, we love what is behind us, our faith,
[11:17] Speaker 1: our families, and our freedoms. We will never retreat quietly
[11:21] Speaker 1: from the growing assaults on life and truth, even when
[11:24] Speaker 1: the costs are great. We will stand to join like
[11:28] Speaker 1: minded friends in making a difference at home and around
[11:31] Speaker 1: the globe, and to equip fellow believers to stand their

[11:53] Speaker 1: a few moments. Anyone who's been paying attention knows there's
[12:03] Speaker 1: a war going on, not just on traditional morality, civility,
[12:07] Speaker 1: and decency, but even more fundamentally on historic notions of truth.
[12:12] Speaker 1: And the enemy isn't just the onslaught of fake news,
[12:15] Speaker 1: facilitated by a post truth culture and turbocharged by growing
[12:19] Speaker 1: legions of ideological spinductors. Note the real enemies of truth
[12:23] Speaker 1: range from postmodernist convictions that there is no objective truth
[12:28] Speaker 1: to militant scientism that claims that only science can determine
[12:32] Speaker 1: truth and religion is little more than primitive superstitions. But

[15:12] Speaker 2: And thank you Randy. We're talking about the resurrection of
[15:15] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, something that we celebrated in the Eastern Church
[15:20] Speaker 2: just two days ago and in the Western Church a
[15:25] Speaker 2: week ago Sunday. At any rate, this is something that
[15:29] Speaker 2: you and I, as I mentioned in the first segment
[15:32] Speaker 2: of the broadcast, must be prepared to defend because it
[15:37] Speaker 2: is the very essence of the Christian faith. Christ suffered
[15:44] Speaker 2: fatal torment. The tomb was indeed empty. Christianity cannot survive
[15:51] Speaker 2: an identifiable tomb containing the relics of Messiah. Christ appeared
[15:58] Speaker 2: and gave many convincing proofs that he had indeed risen
[16:03] Speaker 2: from the grave. And finally, as a result of the
[16:08] Speaker 2: post resurrection appearances of Christ, the disciples were utterly transformed.
[16:15] Speaker 2: Neither Ponce de Leon nor Alexander the Great ever discovered
[16:22] Speaker 2: the Fountain of youth. It does exist, however, Jesus said,
[16:28] Speaker 2: I am the Resurrection. I am the Life. He who
[16:33] Speaker 2: believes in Me will live even though he dies, And
[16:39] Speaker 2: who ever lives and believes in Me will never die. Truly,
[16:45] Speaker 2: for all who are in Christ, the Fountain of youth awaits. Now,
[16:52] Speaker 2: that's something that I hold dear as a follower of
[16:57] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. It is my of eternity. It is what
[17:02] Speaker 2: preserved me in the midst of a three year battle
[17:07] Speaker 2: with stage four mental sell lymphoma. It is the assurance
[17:13] Speaker 2: that gave me hope and joy in the midst of
[17:18] Speaker 2: life's storms. And yet, and yet this is ridiculed in
[17:25] Speaker 2: today's popular culture. Just this morning, I opened Time magazine
[17:33] Speaker 2: and there I saw a full page ad, an ad
[17:39] Speaker 2: on a video series, a DVD, How Jesus Became God?
[17:45] Speaker 2: You can save two hundred and twenty dollars. The ad says,
[17:49] Speaker 2: if you get this video right now, it's a seventy
[17:52] Speaker 2: five percent savings. The ad goes on to say that
[17:57] Speaker 2: the early Christian claim that Jesus of Nazareth was God
[18:02] Speaker 2: completely changed the course of Western civilization, and for that reason,
[18:07] Speaker 2: the question of how Jesus became God is one of
[18:11] Speaker 2: the most significant historical questions, and in fact a question
[18:17] Speaker 2: that some believers have never thought to ask. What exactly happened?
[18:23] Speaker 2: What happened such that Jesus came to be considered God? Well,
[18:29] Speaker 2: in twenty four provocative lectures, the head goes on. Professor
[18:35] Speaker 2: bart d Erman of the University of North Carolina Chapel
[18:40] Speaker 2: Hill takes you deeply into the process by which the
[18:44] Speaker 2: divinity of Jesus was first conceived of by his followers,
[18:50] Speaker 2: and in the middle of that series he takes dead
[18:54] Speaker 2: aim at the resurrection of Jesus Christ, resurrection which he
[19:02] Speaker 2: believes to be an absolute hoax. In fact, according to
[19:09] Speaker 2: bart Ermin, the Bible is a dishonest book, littered with
[19:14] Speaker 2: deceptions and errors, and he says outright lies. He is
[19:20] Speaker 2: very proud of the fact that some of his students
[19:23] Speaker 2: resist for a long time, secure in their knowledge that
[19:26] Speaker 2: God would not allow any falsehoods like the Resurrection into
[19:29] Speaker 2: a sacred book. But before long, as studentsy more and
[19:33] Speaker 2: more the evidence, many of them find that their faith
[19:36] Speaker 2: in the inerrancy and absolute historical trustworthiness of the Bible
[19:41] Speaker 2: begins to waver. Well, Our faith ought never to waver, never,
[19:49] Speaker 2: not in the midst of ridicule, not in the midst
[19:55] Speaker 2: of faulty reasoning, as I was saying in the first
[20:00] Speaker 2: part of the broadcast. A few years ago, on the
[20:02] Speaker 2: day before Good Friday, Comedy Central featured Barterman making light
[20:09] Speaker 2: of Christ's agony on the cross to the delight of
[20:13] Speaker 2: his audience, and it was delight He and host Stephen
[20:17] Speaker 2: Colbert ridiculed Mark and Luke for contradicting one another respecting
[20:24] Speaker 2: the death of Christ and Mark's gospel, Jesus goes to
[20:30] Speaker 2: his death in deep agony over what's happening to him
[20:34] Speaker 2: and doesn't seem to understand what's happening to him, says Ermine. Conversely,
[20:42] Speaker 2: when you read Luke's gospel, he's not an agony at all. Well.
[20:47] Speaker 2: Number one too, suggests that in Mark's account, Jesus doesn't
[20:53] Speaker 2: seem to understand what is happening to him is hardly
[20:57] Speaker 2: humorous or accurate. His mark made clear Jesus knew precisely
[21:05] Speaker 2: what would happen to him and precisely why it was
[21:10] Speaker 2: happening to him. Jesus explained during the Last Supper, this
[21:15] Speaker 2: is my blood of the Covenant, which is poured out
[21:20] Speaker 2: for many, or as he put it, just prior to
[21:24] Speaker 2: entering Jerusalem, the son of Man came to give his
[21:29] Speaker 2: life as a ransom for many. Jesus had in fact
[21:35] Speaker 2: repeatedly predicted his suffering, his death, his resurrection, and to
[21:41] Speaker 2: say otherwise is an insult to Christ, in fact, an
[21:47] Speaker 2: insult to common sense. Secondly, only a biblically illiterate studio
[21:55] Speaker 2: audience would snicker at the assertion that in Luke's Gospel,
[22:02] Speaker 2: Christ is not in agony at all. As documented by
[22:07] Speaker 2: doctor Luke, Christ's torment actually began long before the cross
[22:14] Speaker 2: in the garden of Gitsemine. Being in agony. There Jesus
[22:21] Speaker 2: prayed earnestly. Then his sweat became like great drops of
[22:28] Speaker 2: blood falling to the ground. To suggest that, according to Luke,
[22:36] Speaker 2: Jesus is not in agony at all takes more than
[22:42] Speaker 2: a little gall The third point at make in this
[22:47] Speaker 2: regard is a point which drives a nail into the
[22:51] Speaker 2: heart of bart Erman's methodology, because unless biographers such as
[22:59] Speaker 2: Mark and Luke say precisely the same thing in precisely
[23:06] Speaker 2: the same way, Ermine stands ready to crucify them on
[23:12] Speaker 2: the pretense of contradiction. Here's how he regurgitates his shop
[23:20] Speaker 2: worn charge on Comedy Central. What people have done is
[23:26] Speaker 2: they've taken Mark's Gospel and Looks gospel and combine them
[23:30] Speaker 2: together into one big gospel, which is not like either
[23:35] Speaker 2: Mark or Luke. Says Ermine well in sober reality, the
[23:41] Speaker 2: very nature of biography is to choose those elements of
[23:46] Speaker 2: a congruent story that the biographer wishes to emphasize. And
[23:53] Speaker 2: one of the most amazing realities with respect to the
[23:57] Speaker 2: composite biography of Jesus Christ presented by the Gospel writers
[24:04] Speaker 2: is that they were empowered to present a living portrait
[24:10] Speaker 2: of the most interesting, complex and significant human being, the anthropist,
[24:18] Speaker 2: the god man who has ever walked among us, and
[24:23] Speaker 2: these writers did so without contradiction and without collusion. The
[24:34] Speaker 2: kinds of invective cast towards Christ are simply mind numbing.
[24:40] Speaker 2: In an age of scientific enlightenment. Ermine has said so
[24:46] Speaker 2: many things, and his rhetoric is becoming popular in the culture.
[24:52] Speaker 2: According to Butt Rman, Jesus was a false apocalyptic prophet.
[25:00] Speaker 2: Jesus could not have been God. Why well, according to Rman,
[25:05] Speaker 2: because he did not know that a black orchard seed
[25:09] Speaker 2: was smaller than a mustard seed. Part Hermann needs to
[25:16] Speaker 2: be countered because he's making such an impact in the culture.
[25:23] Speaker 2: I've done that in various places, including my book Has
[25:27] Speaker 2: God Spoken? I have a whole section on answering what
[25:31] Speaker 2: are supposed contradictions in the Bible and in the accounts
[25:38] Speaker 2: that buttress the resurrection of Christ. In the Complete Bible
