[0:07] Speaker 1: Heard all across the United States, Canada, and around the world.
[0:11] Speaker 1: This is the Bible answer Man Broadcast with Hank Annagraph.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Hank as President of the Christian Research Institute at CRI.
[0:19] Speaker 1: Our desire is to equip you not only to defend
[0:22] Speaker 1: the historic Christian faith, but to become a winsome witness
[0:26] Speaker 1: to a spiritually hungry but skeptical world because life and
[0:31] Speaker 1: truth matter. To learn more or to find resources to
[0:34] Speaker 1: help you grow in grace, call eight eight eight seven
[0:38] Speaker 1: thousand CROI or go online to equip dot org. That's
[0:43] Speaker 1: equip dot org. The following program was pre recorded and
[0:49] Speaker 1: now here's Hank Cannagraph.
[0:51] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Randy, and we'll go right
[0:53] Speaker 2: to our callers in just a moment. But I wanted
[0:55] Speaker 2: to mention how important it is for you to stand
[0:59] Speaker 2: with this mastry because truth matters. Of course, truth is
[1:02] Speaker 2: an aspect of the nature of God. Christianity is not
[1:06] Speaker 2: true because it works. That's pragmatism. It's not true because
[1:11] Speaker 2: it feels right. That's subjectivism. It's not true because it's
[1:18] Speaker 2: my truth. That's relativism. Christianity is true because it is
[1:24] Speaker 2: anchored in the person of Christ. Furthermore, it's important to
[1:31] Speaker 2: recognize that truth is anything that corresponds to reality. As such,
[1:38] Speaker 2: truth does not yield to the size and strength of
[1:44] Speaker 2: the latest lobby group, nor is truth merely a matter
[1:49] Speaker 2: of preference or opinion. Truth is true even if everyone
[1:55] Speaker 2: denies it, and a lie a lie even if everybody
[1:59] Speaker 2: affirms it, And truth, of course, is essential to a
[2:03] Speaker 2: realistic worldview. When sophistry, sensationalism, when supersition, when they together
[2:14] Speaker 2: sabotage truth, our view of reality becomes seriously skewed. And
[2:20] Speaker 2: that is precisely what is happening today with prophecy pundits
[2:27] Speaker 2: who are seriously skewing the reality of truth in the
[2:32] Speaker 2: minds of so many because they pretend that their truth
[2:39] Speaker 2: comes from the truth the final court of arbitration, when
[2:42] Speaker 2: in fact it comes from their own subjective flights a fancy.
[2:51] Speaker 2: And in the end, while sensationalism prevails for a moment,
[2:59] Speaker 2: the Savior's name in the end will be dragged through
[3:04] Speaker 2: the mud. That is why it is so important for
[3:08] Speaker 2: you to take this opportunity to equip yourself to always
[3:11] Speaker 2: be ready to give an answer. Again. We do what
[3:17] Speaker 2: we do because truth matters. We don't do what we
[3:21] Speaker 2: do because it's politically correct. We don't do what we
[3:26] Speaker 2: do because it's popular. We don't do what we do
[3:32] Speaker 2: to gain a bigger platform. We do what we do
[3:37] Speaker 2: because over the years I have recognized that people are
[3:41] Speaker 2: making life decision on the basis of the skin of
[3:46] Speaker 2: the truth stuffed with a great, big lie. Ideas have consequences.
[3:54] Speaker 2: We'll go right now to the phone calls. First up,
[3:59] Speaker 2: I want to talk to John listening in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hi.
[4:03] Speaker 3: John, Hey, hank Ai.
[4:05] Speaker 2: I'm well, good talking to you, good.
[4:07] Speaker 3: Talking you too. Just want to let you know that
[4:10] Speaker 3: I've been listening to your program since nineteen eighty eight,
[4:15] Speaker 3: five days a week. Well, thank you and my pleasure.
[4:19] Speaker 3: And you spoke here one time at the Curry Barracks
[4:22] Speaker 3: and I was in attendance there, and I also bought
[4:26] Speaker 3: your book Christianity in Crisis. That was amazing that it
[4:33] Speaker 3: was like I was being shot out of a canon
[4:36] Speaker 3: with my faith. Wow. And I really you know that
[4:39] Speaker 3: it's so foundational for a lot of believers to have
[4:43] Speaker 3: discernment to understand about the kingdom of the cults and
[4:47] Speaker 3: about these false preachers.
[4:50] Speaker 2: Well, thank you for the encouragement John, it means the
[4:52] Speaker 2: world to me.
[4:53] Speaker 3: The question I have for you, Hank is Joshua one
[4:58] Speaker 3: verse five. Now the Lord is speaking to Israel. Now
[5:04] Speaker 3: can we take that verse personally? I will never leave
[5:08] Speaker 3: you in nor forsake you. When he's speaking to Israel.
[5:10] Speaker 3: Can we take that personally or is it strictly to
[5:14] Speaker 3: the land of Israel.
[5:16] Speaker 2: Well, this is given within the context of a historical narrative,
[5:20] Speaker 2: so it is directed in a very poignant fashion to
[5:24] Speaker 2: a person as I was with Moses, So I too
[5:29] Speaker 2: will be with you. I will never leave you or
[5:31] Speaker 2: forsake you. So this has ramifications for Joshua, has ramifications
[5:36] Speaker 2: for Israel, but in principle it certainly has ramifications for
[5:40] Speaker 2: us as well. So imbued in this promise to a
[5:44] Speaker 2: pacific people and a specific person is a promise to
[5:49] Speaker 2: us as those who are heirs of the promise, those
[5:53] Speaker 2: of us who are in reality rightly called true Israel.
[5:58] Speaker 2: And remember, on the New Testament language that is used
[6:02] Speaker 2: for Old Testament Israel is recapitulated and used for us.
[6:07] Speaker 2: We are priests, We're a holy nation, We're a royal priesthood.
[6:12] Speaker 2: We're called out. So in principle this does apply specifically
[6:19] Speaker 2: and directly to us, although this is given in a
[6:22] Speaker 2: historical perspective to a person and a people perfect.
[6:27] Speaker 3: That's why I thought, Hank, thank you.
[6:29] Speaker 2: Very much, you got it. Thank you so much for
[6:31] Speaker 2: your call. I want to go back to the phone
[6:32] Speaker 2: lines now. Talk to Linda. She's listening in Ohio. Hi Linda, Hi,
[6:38] Speaker 2: how are you good? How are you?
[6:40] Speaker 4: My sister and I were talking one day. We were
[6:43] Speaker 4: talking about the possibility of when Jesus said that he
[6:48] Speaker 4: would be dead for three days and they were not
[6:51] Speaker 4: allowed to do anything on the Sabbath.
[6:53] Speaker 1: Is this a.
[6:54] Speaker 4: Possibility that God did raise Jesus prior to the three
[6:58] Speaker 4: days that he was walking the earth, and by the
[7:03] Speaker 4: time they could get to the Sabbath or the day
[7:07] Speaker 4: after the Sabbath was the third day when they were
[7:09] Speaker 4: allowed to do things.
[7:11] Speaker 2: No, the text specifically tells us that Jesus rose on
[7:15] Speaker 2: the third day, not before the third day nor after
[7:18] Speaker 2: the third day, but rather Matthew six day and tells
[7:22] Speaker 2: us specifically that Jesus rose on the third day. And
[7:26] Speaker 2: I think it's important too to recognize the days have significance.
[7:31] Speaker 2: Jesus died on Passover Day or Friday, to fulfill the
[7:36] Speaker 2: conditions of being our Pascal or our passover Lamb. Also
[7:42] Speaker 2: recognize that imbued in the whole chronology is a Jesus
[7:47] Speaker 2: who fulfills all the types in shadows, and therefore a
[7:51] Speaker 2: Jesus in whom we can have our sabbath rest. The
[7:56] Speaker 2: text tells us the Gospel specif they say that he
[8:02] Speaker 2: died and was buried the day before the Sabbath or Friday,
[8:08] Speaker 2: and rose on the day after the Sabbath or on Sunday.
[8:14] Speaker 2: So I think we have to take the text at
[8:15] Speaker 2: face value and then see the beauty that is imbued
[8:19] Speaker 2: in the text from a symbolic standpoint, because Jesus is
[8:24] Speaker 2: the passover Lamb, and from that point on no longer
[8:29] Speaker 2: is passover meaningful except in a historical perspective. So we
[8:34] Speaker 2: don't as Christians celebrate Passover, we celebrate the Lord's Supper.
[8:40] Speaker 2: Do this in remembrance of Me. Because the types and
[8:45] Speaker 2: shadows of temple, priests and sacrifice are fulfilled in His
[8:49] Speaker 2: sacrifice on the cross. Therefore, Jesus on the cross could
[8:53] Speaker 2: say it is finished, or to tell us die secular
[8:56] Speaker 2: coine great the language of the day, saying in essence
[9:00] Speaker 2: that the debt is paid in full.
[9:05] Speaker 4: Okay, thank you very much and goah bless you in
[9:08] Speaker 4: your ministry.
[9:09] Speaker 2: Thank you, Linda, appreciate your call. I want to go
[9:11] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines. We'll talk next to Anna Marie.
[9:15] Speaker 2: She's listening in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
[9:18] Speaker 3: High Animary, thank you for taking my call.
[9:22] Speaker 5: I was reading in First Summer, chapter twenty eight, and
[9:28] Speaker 5: God did not answer salt anymore. So he consulted a medium,
[9:32] Speaker 5: which brought up somewhere was this really Summer? Or what
[9:37] Speaker 5: was this a demon looking like samwe because God didn't
[9:40] Speaker 5: want to answer some salt anymore.
[9:44] Speaker 2: Well, I don't think there's any question whatsoever that this
[9:47] Speaker 2: was Samuel. If you read the account, it is clearly
[9:53] Speaker 2: Samuel who was brought back. But this is not done
[9:59] Speaker 2: by the a vendor. This is done in spite of
[10:05] Speaker 2: the witch of Vendor, and that is why she is
[10:08] Speaker 2: so amazed and also frightened when Samuel appears. So this
[10:13] Speaker 2: is not normative. This is a sovereign act of God
[10:18] Speaker 2: to judge the first king of Israel.
[10:22] Speaker 5: I'm glad you said that, because my friend said to me,
[10:26] Speaker 5: God doesn't caught people back out of paradise. And I said, well,
[10:30] Speaker 5: what about the transfiguration, you know when Elijah and Moses
[10:34] Speaker 5: came up, And he said, well, that's different, you know,
[10:37] Speaker 5: but I do believe that it was an act of
[10:40] Speaker 5: God in spite of that medium.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's right. And remember I use the
[10:45] Speaker 2: word normative. Your friend is partially right in saying that
[10:50] Speaker 2: God does not do this on a regular basis. So
[10:53] Speaker 2: when it does happen, such as what you find in
[10:57] Speaker 2: for Samuel twenty eight or on the mamount of transfiguration,
[11:02] Speaker 2: these are not normative experiences. Right.
[11:06] Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
[11:07] Speaker 2: You got it. Thank you so much for your call.

[12:13] Speaker 1: onslaught of fake news, facilitated by a post truth culture
[12:17] Speaker 1: and turbocharged by growing legions of ideological spinductors. Note the
[12:22] Speaker 1: real enemies of truth range from postmodernist convictions that there
[12:26] Speaker 1: is no objective truth to militant scientism that claims that

[14:01] Speaker 6: Hank Hannagraph has dedicated his life to defending truth because
[14:05] Speaker 6: truth matters. However, his life and ministry were radically transformed
[14:09] Speaker 6: by another three word phrase, Life matters more. Truth matters
[14:13] Speaker 6: because Christianity is rooted in history and evidence. Life matters
[14:17] Speaker 6: more because it.
[14:18] Speaker 7: Is the experience of union with God. The goal of
[14:21] Speaker 7: Christian life is union with God. All attempts to understand
[14:25] Speaker 7: Christianity from a solely rational perspective put us in danger
[14:29] Speaker 7: of devolving into a transactional rather than transformational relationship with God.

[15:57] Speaker 1: here's your host, Hank Kanagram.
[16:00] Speaker 2: Back to the phone lines. We'll talk next to Trey Canton, Georgia. Hi, Trey,
[16:06] Speaker 2: good evening.
[16:07] Speaker 8: I got your MOBL answer book from my parents for
[16:10] Speaker 8: Christmas and I'll join it ically.
[16:12] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[16:14] Speaker 8: My question is regarding a couple that's non married in
[16:19] Speaker 8: the church seeking baptismal. What kind of answer can they
[16:23] Speaker 8: expect from the pastor on that since they're not married.
[16:28] Speaker 2: Well, if the pastor is a genuine pastor of the church,
[16:32] Speaker 2: you'll see this as an opportunity to be a witness
[16:36] Speaker 2: to them. If they are not believers, then he has
[16:39] Speaker 2: an opportunity to communicate the Gospel, which will truly set
[16:42] Speaker 2: them free. If they are believers, of course, then they
[16:45] Speaker 2: are those who say they realize that they are sinners.
[16:49] Speaker 2: They've repented of their sin, which is to say that
[16:53] Speaker 2: they're taking a u turn on the road of life.
[16:55] Speaker 2: Is a change of heart, a change of mind, to
[16:57] Speaker 2: change of the will. They're now turning to follow Christ,
[17:01] Speaker 2: which is to say they're going to do it His
[17:03] Speaker 2: way rather than doing it their own way. So perhaps
[17:07] Speaker 2: he'll have an opportunity not only to baptize them but
[17:09] Speaker 2: marry them.
[17:11] Speaker 8: Okay, but if they have no intent of you know,
[17:16] Speaker 8: getting married in tom soon and then still plan on
[17:19] Speaker 8: living together, I mean you think he will still baptize
[17:21] Speaker 8: them anyway.
[17:22] Speaker 2: Well, I hope not, because again, baptism is a statement
[17:26] Speaker 2: that you become part of the body of Christ. And
[17:28] Speaker 2: when you become part of the body of Christ, you're
[17:31] Speaker 2: in a very tacit sense saying I don't want to
[17:34] Speaker 2: do it my way, I want to do it your way.
[17:36] Speaker 2: The idea of living together as husband and wife without
[17:42] Speaker 2: being married is a non biblical notion. And therefore, if
[17:47] Speaker 2: they want to subscribe to Jesus Christ as Lord, that
[17:51] Speaker 2: means they don't want to do it their own way anymore.
[17:54] Speaker 2: They realize that Jesus knows best for.
[17:56] Speaker 8: Them, so he may be condoning it in the sense
[17:59] Speaker 8: if he was to.
[18:01] Speaker 2: Indeed, in other words, you know, every single person that
[18:04] Speaker 2: is baptized is baptized as a sinner, and all kinds
[18:08] Speaker 2: of people who are baptized have besetting sins. But they
[18:11] Speaker 2: are willing to change. Doesn't mean that every room in
[18:15] Speaker 2: their life is swept clean. It means that they are
[18:18] Speaker 2: willing to change. They are willing for Jesus Christ to
[18:22] Speaker 2: become lord of every area of their life. Thus they
[18:27] Speaker 2: aren't going to continue doing it their way. They have
[18:29] Speaker 2: a plan to turn and follow Jesus Christ into it
[18:32] Speaker 2: his way. So a pastor who is one who knows
[18:36] Speaker 2: Jesus Christ will know that and see this as an
[18:38] Speaker 2: opportunity not only for regeneration, but perhaps for baptism after regeneration,
[18:45] Speaker 2: and as I said, after that, perhaps even an opportunity
[18:48] Speaker 2: to marry them. Great.
[18:49] Speaker 8: Thank you very much. I appreciate it. You got it.
[18:51] Speaker 2: Thank you so much for your call. Let's go right
[18:54] Speaker 2: back to the phone lines. We'll talk to Eric next.
[18:56] Speaker 2: He's listening Aboutklahoma. Hi.
[18:57] Speaker 9: Eric, Hi, thanks for taking my call. I've got a
[19:04] Speaker 9: question for you. I was wondering how do you reconcile
[19:08] Speaker 9: the two seemingly very conflicting ideas of predestination and free
[19:12] Speaker 9: will that both seem to be supported in the Bible,
[19:18] Speaker 9: especially citing the Exodus narrative where it says that God
[19:23] Speaker 9: hardened Pharaoh's heart and also, well, that would be predestination,
[19:32] Speaker 9: God choosing these things for Pharaoh and for free will.
[19:40] Speaker 9: Whenever Abraham was called to sacrifice Isaac. And it was
[19:47] Speaker 9: all the way up to the point that he had
[19:48] Speaker 9: the knife over his son that the Angel, that the
[19:52] Speaker 9: Angel of the Lord finally said, now I know that
[19:55] Speaker 9: you are faithful to me. Now I know that you
[19:58] Speaker 9: would trust me this much that you would sacrifice your
[20:01] Speaker 9: own son.
[20:02] Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, a couple of things. One thing gets back
[20:04] Speaker 2: to the art and science of biblical interpretation. The Bible
[20:07] Speaker 2: is replete with anthropomorphisms. They're heavenly condescensions. We have within
[20:13] Speaker 2: this not a normative circumstance, but rather a unique, a
[20:19] Speaker 2: one of kind of circumstance. Speaking of Abraham and the
[20:23] Speaker 2: sacrifice of Isaac and of course forever. This is an
[20:28] Speaker 2: exclamation point behind the sentiment that in a Christian worldview,
[20:33] Speaker 2: there is no place for sacrifices. There's only one sacrifice,
[20:38] Speaker 2: and that sacrifice is Jesus Christ. So again, this is
[20:41] Speaker 2: not a normative kind of situation. It's a historical narrative
[20:45] Speaker 2: that has significant import. A lot more could be said,
[20:48] Speaker 2: but as far as the basic question that you're asking,
[20:52] Speaker 2: remember that with Pharaoh, many things are being said. For example,
[20:57] Speaker 2: it is true that the text scripture tells us that
[21:01] Speaker 2: God hardened Pharaoh's heart. It's also true that the text
[21:05] Speaker 2: of Scripture says that Pharaoh hardened his own heart. From
[21:10] Speaker 2: the perspective of God hardening Pharaoh's heart, this is not
[21:14] Speaker 2: in the sense of hard determinism, because remember the fact
[21:20] Speaker 2: that God knows what is going to happen does not
[21:24] Speaker 2: militate against free will. We can know something in our
[21:28] Speaker 2: past with complete or exhaustive knowledge from a human perspective,
[21:35] Speaker 2: without having caused it. So those two ideas don't need
[21:38] Speaker 2: to be confabulated in any sense. But more to the point,
[21:41] Speaker 2: with respect to Pharaoh, what is the occasion for the
[21:46] Speaker 2: hardening of Pharaoh's heart? It was mercy. Every time Pharaoh
[21:52] Speaker 2: responded in disobedience, God exuded mercy and then Pharaoh would relent.
[22:02] Speaker 2: God would remove the plague, and then Pharaoh would once
[22:05] Speaker 2: again harden his heart. So mercy was the occasion for
[22:11] Speaker 2: the hardening of Pharaoh's heart. A lot more could be
[22:14] Speaker 2: said about this, but this takes a lot of explaining,
[22:17] Speaker 2: and for that reason, what we have done in the
[22:20] Speaker 2: Christian Research Journal is feature a debate between a Calvinist
[22:25] Speaker 2: and a non Calvinist, which allows you to grapple with
[22:29] Speaker 2: these issues by reading how they interact and then taking
[22:35] Speaker 2: their explanations, testing them in light a scripture, holding fast
[22:40] Speaker 2: to that which is good. Back to the phone lines,
[22:43] Speaker 2: we'll talk next to Lucien listing on the web in Lexington, Kentucky. Hi, Lucien. Good.
[22:50] Speaker 10: Yeah, Hey a lot as in southeast since she was
[22:53] Speaker 10: at a caverchapel over there and back in ninety five.
[22:57] Speaker 2: Wow.
[22:58] Speaker 10: Hey, My question is I strugly with forgiveness? And I
[23:02] Speaker 10: know what Bible says and forgives you know, seventy times seven.
[23:05] Speaker 10: And if you leave this world unforgiven, that means gonna
[23:09] Speaker 10: miss out on going to heaven.
[23:11] Speaker 2: Well, if you are a believer, you have been forgiven
[23:16] Speaker 2: a debt that cannot be quantified. And if you have
[23:21] Speaker 2: been forgiven a debt that cannot be quantified, it is
[23:24] Speaker 2: a horrendous evil to even consider keeping forgiveness away from
[23:31] Speaker 2: someone else. And Jesus makes that clear in his parables,
[23:35] Speaker 2: and one parable and specific underscores this in read letters.
[23:39] Speaker 2: So I would say that it's important for us to
[23:43] Speaker 2: recognize that we need to have the capacity to forgive
[23:50] Speaker 2: in this sense. We can't ultimately affect forgiveness because forgiveness
[23:56] Speaker 2: entails reconciliation, and thus is a two ways. It takes
[24:01] Speaker 2: someone who is wanting to be forgiven, it takes someone
[24:05] Speaker 2: who is willing to be a forgiver. And if you
[24:10] Speaker 2: have that, then you can have true reconciliation taking place.
[24:14] Speaker 2: And we don't suppose in any sense that our system
[24:18] Speaker 2: of forgiveness succeeds that of God. God objectively offers forgiveness
[24:23] Speaker 2: to all of us. It isn't realized until we subjectively
[24:26] Speaker 2: embrace his forgiveness. Then a reconciliation between God and man
[24:30] Speaker 2: takes place. The same thing is true of human beings.
[24:32] Speaker 2: They have to be someone who is willing to forgive,
[24:34] Speaker 2: someone who is wanting to be forgiven.
[24:37] Speaker 10: Right, Okay, you know because I struggled with forgiveness and stuff,
[24:40] Speaker 10: and I know I would say forgive and everything and
[24:43] Speaker 10: just like people to treat them in the past. And
[24:45] Speaker 10: then like I get some of the emails from even
[24:48] Speaker 10: the people that like saying you know, I love you,
[24:51] Speaker 10: or see any stuff about God. But is that appropriate
[24:54] Speaker 10: even if they even if they do that and they
[24:58] Speaker 10: that today wrongs you explain it to.
[25:00] Speaker 2: Me, Well, yeah, I think that there are people who
[25:04] Speaker 2: have wronged you and now they're reaching out to you,
[25:06] Speaker 2: and you have to have in your heart of willingness
[25:09] Speaker 2: to forgive them. And this is one of the most
[25:11] Speaker 2: beautiful things that can take place, not only in divine relationships,
[25:14] Speaker 2: but in human relationships that here you have an opportunity
[25:19] Speaker 2: to restore or reconcile. What a beautiful thing to someone
[25:23] Speaker 2: reaches out to you when you have an opportunity to
[25:25] Speaker 2: reach out your hand embrace that person and find in
[25:29] Speaker 2: forgiveness a freedom that is liberating, that is pure, and
[25:35] Speaker 2: that is ultimately divine because it is rooted in the
[25:39] Speaker 2: forgiveness that Jesus Christ has first given to us. I've
[25:43] Speaker 2: written about this in a book called The Prayer of
[25:45] Speaker 2: Jesus Secrets to Real Intimacy with God. It is a
[25:48] Speaker 2: book available through the ministry of the Christian Research Institute.
