[0:07] Speaker 1: You're just in time for the Bible answer Man broadcast
[0:10] Speaker 1: with Hank Canagraph, the radio outreach of the Christian Research Institute.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Our purpose here at CRII is to equip Christians to
[0:19] Speaker 1: provide Biblical answers to life's most important questions, to read
[0:23] Speaker 1: the Bible for all it's worth, and counter the teachings
[0:26] Speaker 1: of cults and world religions that deviate from the plumb
[0:30] Speaker 1: line of God's word, because life and truth matter. For
[0:35] Speaker 1: more information, to order resources or donate, call eight eight
[0:38] Speaker 1: eight seven thousand CROI, or go online to equip dot org.
[0:44] Speaker 1: That's equip dot org. The following program was pre recorded.
[0:50] Speaker 1: Now here's the president of the Christian Research Institute, Hank Canagraph.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Thank you very much for Randy. Let's go right to
[0:56] Speaker 2: the phone lines now. Kevin listening on Charlotte, North, Carol, Hi,
[1:02] Speaker 2: how are you okay?
[1:05] Speaker 3: I have a question, and I want to be very
[1:10] Speaker 3: careful how I stayed at all because I don't want
[1:13] Speaker 3: to upset anybody or you know, I want to be
[1:16] Speaker 3: respectful to everybody. But I have some neighbors. They just
[1:21] Speaker 3: moved here from a different state. I knew them when
[1:24] Speaker 3: they were in that state. Also, we were friends, We
[1:28] Speaker 3: were the same religion. We went to a Pentecostal church.
[1:34] Speaker 3: They moved here and in that time they converted over
[1:38] Speaker 3: to Messianic Jews. Now I know that some of that religion,
[1:44] Speaker 3: I believe it's Christian, But what I believe there's parts
[1:47] Speaker 3: of it, and some other small churches that don't make
[1:52] Speaker 3: a book, the bigger congregation and that probably are teaching falsely.
[1:57] Speaker 3: But what I'm having in trouble with is that I'm
[2:00] Speaker 3: constantly being attacked, not me personally because they don't have
[2:04] Speaker 3: courage to come and talk to me, but they attack
[2:06] Speaker 3: my wife daily and the way they attack her, well,
[2:09] Speaker 3: you should do this. I think you guys should switch
[2:12] Speaker 3: over and you should hold a sabbath. You should do this,
[2:15] Speaker 3: you should do that. And it's getting to a point
[2:19] Speaker 3: where I can't stand it anymore, and I want to
[2:22] Speaker 3: approach them. I want to tell them about it. And
[2:24] Speaker 3: what I told them is I believe they're stuck in
[2:27] Speaker 3: a cult. From what it looks like, it's not a religion.
[2:29] Speaker 3: What they're doing because on Saturday they're not allowed to
[2:32] Speaker 3: do anything, but on Sunday they call us and, oh,
[2:38] Speaker 3: don't you guys want to come over?
[2:40] Speaker 4: Here.
[2:40] Speaker 3: Don't you want to do that? And they know that
[2:41] Speaker 3: we go to church all the time. We respect theirs,
[2:45] Speaker 3: but they never respect our set of the equation. You
[2:51] Speaker 3: know what I mean?
[2:51] Speaker 2: Yea? And what you're communicating actually was dealt with in
[2:56] Speaker 2: an article in the Christian Research Journal, which I'll get
[2:59] Speaker 2: out to you. But Messianic Judaism has a wide spectrum,
[3:05] Speaker 2: which is to say, there are mainstream Messianic Jewish congregations,
[3:11] Speaker 2: but there are also cultic Messianic Jewish congregations, so they
[3:17] Speaker 2: again fall in a continuum, and the cultic ones they
[3:21] Speaker 2: are stressing all the wrong things. In other words, you
[3:25] Speaker 2: have to go back to the types and shadows which
[3:29] Speaker 2: are fulfilled in Jesus Christ, including the Sabbath. So you
[3:34] Speaker 2: have to go back to Sabbath worship and all the
[3:37] Speaker 2: civilian ceremonial laws surrounding it in an Old Testament theocratic system.
[3:42] Speaker 2: So again this runs the spectrum, and it sounds like
[3:46] Speaker 2: this particular couple or these former acquaintances of yours that
[3:51] Speaker 2: are harassing your wife are in the cultic fringe of
[3:55] Speaker 2: Messianic Judaism. But the article that we have in the
[3:58] Speaker 2: Christian Research Journal, I think would be extraordinarily helpful, so
[4:02] Speaker 2: that you can use their deviations as springboards or opportunities
[4:06] Speaker 2: for sharing the gospel. And I think that's really what
[4:09] Speaker 2: needs to happen here. You need to recognize that God
[4:11] Speaker 2: has placed you in a situation to make a difference.
[4:15] Speaker 2: So don't look at it as harassment, but look at
[4:18] Speaker 2: it as an opportunity, an opportunity to reach people who
[4:22] Speaker 2: have fallen into a trap.
[4:25] Speaker 3: Yes, that's exactly how I look at it, and I explained,
[4:29] Speaker 3: and this week actually I made a you know, I
[4:32] Speaker 3: said I couldn't take it any more because I wanted
[4:34] Speaker 3: to respect them, and in the beginning, I wanted to
[4:37] Speaker 3: see exactly what it was about. And now that I understand,
[4:41] Speaker 3: because the minute they come to me and they say, well,
[4:43] Speaker 3: you can eat pork. They also have all different kind
[4:48] Speaker 3: of they're American, pure American. Now they have those little
[4:53] Speaker 3: heads and they have the thing hanging from the pants
[4:58] Speaker 3: on the side of the pants like the Jewish people have,
[5:01] Speaker 3: and they're trying to act like they were born Jewish.
[5:04] Speaker 3: And now they're looking back in the ancestry and they're
[5:07] Speaker 3: trying to say this somewhere part a long twenty generations down,
[5:11] Speaker 3: they were Jewish.
[5:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, they've fallen off the deep end for sure. And
[5:15] Speaker 2: of course, as we know in Christ it's not a
[5:17] Speaker 2: matter of ethnicity. It's not a matter of genealogy or
[5:21] Speaker 2: tracing your genealogy, because it really doesn't matter whether you're
[5:25] Speaker 2: Jew or Greek, whether you're male or female in the
[5:29] Speaker 2: Old Testament sense, someone who is a servant or someone
[5:33] Speaker 2: who is free. No, Rather, we are the seed of
[5:38] Speaker 2: Abraham and heirs according to the promise, because we are
[5:43] Speaker 2: in Jesus Christ. So it's never a matter of race.
[5:46] Speaker 2: It's always a matter of relationship. Hang on, we can
[5:50] Speaker 2: send you the article. We'll to go back to the
[5:52] Speaker 2: phone lines. We'll talk to Will next listening in Springfield, Missouri.
[5:55] Speaker 5: Hi Will, Hello, Hank, I have a question for you.
[6:00] Speaker 5: I'd like to know if the earth is thousands of
[6:03] Speaker 5: yours goold or billion.
[6:06] Speaker 2: Well. The answer that question, of course, is found by
[6:10] Speaker 2: looking at the Word of God. There we see his
[6:12] Speaker 2: eternal power, divine nature being clearly understood by that which
[6:17] Speaker 2: has been made so that we are without excuse. So
[6:21] Speaker 2: as Christians, we are to look at the world around us,
[6:26] Speaker 2: and that gives us some answers to the questions with
[6:30] Speaker 2: respect to the age of the earth as well as
[6:32] Speaker 2: the age of the universe. But I think it's improper
[6:36] Speaker 2: to ask that question of the Biblical text because I
[6:40] Speaker 2: don't find that the Biblical text gives us an answer
[6:44] Speaker 2: to the question of age. And I think that the
[6:48] Speaker 2: problem has been that a lot of Christians are so
[6:52] Speaker 2: desperate to find an answer there that they are embracing
[6:57] Speaker 2: herald camping like mythologies. So you see all this stuff
[7:01] Speaker 2: on the internet. I was appulled when I did some
[7:03] Speaker 2: research on this was a Saturday. I came in early
[7:08] Speaker 2: and sixteen hours later I was pulling my hair out,
[7:11] Speaker 2: and I don't have that much hair to pull out anymore.
[7:14] Speaker 2: You see this mythology on the web about a t
[7:18] Speaker 2: Rex bone, unfossilized found and there's hemoglobin and red blood
[7:24] Speaker 2: cell evident, and as a result of that, we know
[7:29] Speaker 2: t Rex walked at the same time as man. Now,
[7:31] Speaker 2: whether t Rex did or did not is one issue.
[7:35] Speaker 2: The other issue, of course, is is this a myth
[7:42] Speaker 2: being circulated, an urban legend that Christians are circulating in
[7:46] Speaker 2: the name of truth, or is it really true. Turns
[7:50] Speaker 2: out it's just an urban legend, it's mythology being spread
[7:55] Speaker 2: by people who should know better. And this is one
[7:59] Speaker 2: of the problems in modern day evangelicalism. We are spreading
[8:04] Speaker 2: urban legends when we are the ones that say we
[8:08] Speaker 2: stand for the one who says he's the way, the truth,
[8:12] Speaker 2: and he's the life. No one comes to the Father
[8:15] Speaker 2: but by him. I think that we do well to
[8:17] Speaker 2: look at things like the speed of light, or star life,
[8:24] Speaker 2: or sequential layers in the formation of ice cores in
[8:27] Speaker 2: places such as Antarctica and Greenland in order to answer
[8:32] Speaker 2: the question of age.
[8:34] Speaker 5: Okay, so then the genealogies and Genesis are not to
[8:40] Speaker 5: be taken as a direct genealogy from father to son
[8:45] Speaker 5: or well.
[8:45] Speaker 2: That's a different question. First of all, the one thing
[8:48] Speaker 2: we know for certain. Anyone that's taken a little time
[8:52] Speaker 2: in reading Genesis and understanding its literary prowess and the
[8:56] Speaker 2: masterpiece that it is, recognizes that the genealogists are not sequential.
[9:02] Speaker 2: You can remember them. You remember all the highlights with
[9:04] Speaker 2: your ten fingers. That's how the mosaic to use a
[9:07] Speaker 2: pun is laid out. But they're not sequential. But it's
[9:10] Speaker 2: still a different question, because no one doubts that the
[9:15] Speaker 2: advent of Adam and Eve was very recent in history.
[9:21] Speaker 2: Even the evolutionist will concede that point. Now they won't
[9:27] Speaker 2: go back only six thousand years, but relatively recent in
[9:33] Speaker 2: the history of Earth or the history of the universe
[9:37] Speaker 2: is the advent of the first man and the first woman.
[9:41] Speaker 2: So that's a completely different question.
[9:44] Speaker 4: That's I would.
[9:44] Speaker 5: Disagree with that. I think it's the same question.
[9:47] Speaker 2: Why is it the same question?
[9:48] Speaker 5: Well, because God created the earth and he created Adam
[9:52] Speaker 5: and even the same week.
[9:55] Speaker 2: Well how do you know that.
[9:56] Speaker 5: Because it says so in Genesis.
[9:59] Speaker 2: Well, okay, but you have to read the Bible in
[10:01] Speaker 2: the sense in which it's intended. When you read that
[10:04] Speaker 2: God tips over the water pots of heaven, does that
[10:08] Speaker 2: give you some kind of information on how rain is produced?
[10:15] Speaker 2: And if we start reading the Bible in the sense
[10:18] Speaker 2: in which it is intended, I think we're going to
[10:21] Speaker 2: come up with a literary masterpiece. But if we don't,
[10:25] Speaker 2: we're going to come up with herald Camping type prognostications
[10:30] Speaker 2: on when the rapture is going to take place. We
[10:32] Speaker 2: need to learn how to read the Bible for all
[10:34] Speaker 2: it's worse. So I appreciate your question very much. My
[10:38] Speaker 2: real passion is to read the Bible literally, in other words,
[10:41] Speaker 2: to recognize that it is the infallible repository of redemptive revelation,
[10:46] Speaker 2: and that it is literature inspired literature. We should read
[10:49] Speaker 2: it as such.
[10:50] Speaker 1: If you were going into combat, what would be more
[10:53] Speaker 1: important the number of those who were for you or
[10:56] Speaker 1: the number of those who were with you? Now apply
[10:59] Speaker 1: that question to today's battle for the hearts and minds of
[11:02] Speaker 1: literally millions of people at home and abroad. That's what
[11:06] Speaker 1: makes members of CRI's support teams so vital. They're not
[11:11] Speaker 1: simply for CRI's critical mission. They're standing with CRI each
[11:16] Speaker 1: and every day. If you want your voice and your
[11:19] Speaker 1: values to be heard twenty four to seven through the
[11:21] Speaker 1: outreaches of the Christian Research Institute, become a member of

[12:10] Speaker 1: Or are they, in fact the very words of God himself.
[12:15] Speaker 1: Three years in the making and based on two decades
[12:18] Speaker 1: of research and reflection, Hank Henagraph's monumental book Has God
[12:23] Speaker 1: Spoken answers what is surely the most important question facing
[12:27] Speaker 1: our world. In Has God Spoken? Memorable Proofs of the
[12:31] Speaker 1: Bible's Divine inspiration, Hank counters the contentions of the Bible
[12:35] Speaker 1: attackers and clearly shows that belief in the Holy Scriptures
[12:38] Speaker 1: is not a guess or wishful thinking. It is the
[12:41] Speaker 1: only logical conclusion after an honest examination of overwhelming evidence.

[13:02] Speaker 1: surrounding the Christian flock is growing, and they relish nothing
[13:05] Speaker 1: more than Docile's sheep, utterly incapable of defending themselves from
[13:10] Speaker 1: militant secularists at home to militant Islamists abroad. The assaults
[13:15] Speaker 1: on Biblical Christianity are growing dangerously, but Christian Research Institutes
[13:20] Speaker 1: support team members aren't in favor of feeding these wolves. Instead,
[13:24] Speaker 1: each day they're making possible an array of outreaches that
[13:28] Speaker 1: defang these wolfpacks with solid arguments and evidence that have

[14:01] Speaker 6: Hank Hannagraph has dedicated his life to defending truth because
[14:05] Speaker 6: truth matters. However, his life and ministry were radically transformed
[14:09] Speaker 6: by another three word phrase, Life matters more. Truth matters
[14:13] Speaker 6: because Christianity is rooted in history and evidence. Life matters
[14:17] Speaker 6: more because it.
[14:18] Speaker 7: Is the experience of union with God. The goal of
[14:21] Speaker 7: Christian life is union with God. All attempts to understand
[14:25] Speaker 7: Christianity from a solely rational perspective put us in danger
[14:29] Speaker 7: of devolving into a transactional rather than transformational relationship with God.
[14:34] Speaker 7: Truth matters, Life matters more will equip you to move

[15:07] Speaker 8: And now here's Hank canagraph thank you very much, or
[15:10] Speaker 8: Indy and just a couple of comments. I couldn't tell
[15:13] Speaker 8: whether the last caller was a Old Earth creationist or
[15:17] Speaker 8: a Young Earth creationist.
[15:18] Speaker 2: I can only guess. But the problem in either case
[15:21] Speaker 2: is that the seven days of creation are taken and
[15:26] Speaker 2: either rendered as literal twenty four hour days or day ages.
[15:30] Speaker 2: And I think that if the caller was a progressive creationist,
[15:34] Speaker 2: like a Young Earth counterpart, he would face significant challenges
[15:39] Speaker 2: from both science and scripture. The unbridled quest to find
[15:44] Speaker 2: maximal harmony between science and scripture has left all kinds
[15:51] Speaker 2: of forced interpretations of both. On the one hand, scripture
[15:55] Speaker 2: is harmonized with science through the contention that the sun
[16:00] Speaker 2: and stars were created prior to Day one rather than
[16:04] Speaker 2: on Day four, While the other science is harmonized with
[16:09] Speaker 2: scripture through a strained explanation which allows vegetation to thrive
[16:15] Speaker 2: during a geological age in which there's no direct sunlight.
[16:23] Speaker 2: In order to harmonize scripture with modern science, Old Earth
[16:28] Speaker 2: creationists repudiate the moral significance of natural evil. As such,
[16:35] Speaker 2: they ascribe all morally meaningful evil to that which takes
[16:41] Speaker 2: place after the initial human sin. Though progressive creationists have
[16:47] Speaker 2: acknowledged that animals manifest attributes of mind and will and emotions,
[16:56] Speaker 2: and are uniquely endowed with the capacity to form relationships
[17:00] Speaker 2: with each other and with humans. The whorees of suffering, death,
[17:05] Speaker 2: and extinction are then said to be part and parcel
[17:08] Speaker 2: of God's very good creation. From a progressive creationist perspective,
[17:16] Speaker 2: even Eden was not immune to the havoc of animal
[17:21] Speaker 2: death and infection and natural catastrophe. Eve herself suffer the
[17:28] Speaker 2: ravages of pain, which only increase, they say, as a
[17:33] Speaker 2: result of her sin. Look to put it bluntly, there
[17:38] Speaker 2: never was a perfect paradise. Worse yet, in their view,
[17:45] Speaker 2: there is not only not a perfect paradise, but God
[17:49] Speaker 2: is implicated in using disease and decay and destruction and
[17:53] Speaker 2: even death, which they often dub random wasteful inefficiencies, as
[18:00] Speaker 2: the means by which to bring about a very good world.
[18:07] Speaker 2: In which you've experienced pain. The difficulty with all of this,
[18:15] Speaker 2: which is made throughout Old Earth creationist literature, is that
[18:20] Speaker 2: natural evil becomes simply a tool for furthering God's ends
[18:26] Speaker 2: rather than a consequence of human sin. So Old Earth
[18:32] Speaker 2: creationism that looks at the week of Creation quite literally
[18:39] Speaker 2: and says these are literal day ages ends up opening
[18:46] Speaker 2: God to the charge of inflicting pain to advance a
[18:52] Speaker 2: divine agenda. And the reality is this, there is simply
[18:57] Speaker 2: no need for far fetched special pleading. A proper reading
[19:03] Speaker 2: of the Book of Nature reveals natural evil before Adam. Likewise,
[19:09] Speaker 2: a proper reading of Sacred Scripture reveals an infinite God
[19:13] Speaker 2: who redeems humankind by acting across time. Just as the
[19:20] Speaker 2: effects of the Cross are retroactive, so to the effects
[19:24] Speaker 2: of the Fall are retroactive. So there are problems with
[19:31] Speaker 2: both the Young Earth creationist view and the Old Earth
[19:35] Speaker 2: creationist view. And I think beyond that a real problem
[19:41] Speaker 2: in that as Christians we have neglected to recognize the
[19:50] Speaker 2: stupendous beauty of the Genesis account of creation. The more
[19:58] Speaker 2: you memorize Genesis, the more you read through Genesis, the
[20:04] Speaker 2: more you see divine fingerprints all over it. Of course,
[20:09] Speaker 2: if you don't know how to read literature for all
[20:12] Speaker 2: its worth, it ends up becoming an absurdity. And you
[20:17] Speaker 2: have the bart Urmans of the world making fun of
[20:20] Speaker 2: the Genesis account of creation because they see a contradiction
[20:23] Speaker 2: between Genesis one and Genesis two. But this is either
[20:27] Speaker 2: fundamentalism from the left or fundamentalism from the right. It's
[20:31] Speaker 2: time we learn to read the Bible for all its worth.
[20:34] Speaker 2: Let's go back to the phone lines. Talk to John
[20:36] Speaker 2: listening in Jackson, Tennessee. Hi, John, thanks for taking my golf.
[20:41] Speaker 4: I ain't question was there's a few churches in my
[20:44] Speaker 4: area that I know are King James probably and put
[20:48] Speaker 4: it signs up to push King James onlyism, And I
[20:51] Speaker 4: just wondered what.
[20:52] Speaker 5: Should do on that?
[20:53] Speaker 2: Was Well, again another abomination, isn't it? Because the problem
[20:58] Speaker 2: here is that the KJV only people want to take
[21:02] Speaker 2: the KJAV and make it an autographer, make it the
[21:05] Speaker 2: original it came down from Mount Sinai hot off the plates,
[21:11] Speaker 2: which is simply untrue. The autographer is housed within the
[21:18] Speaker 2: textual evidence that God has supernaturally preserved for us, such
[21:24] Speaker 2: that through the tenacity of the text the autograph emerges,
[21:28] Speaker 2: you can compare text with text and be absolutely certain
[21:34] Speaker 2: that what we have in our modern day Bibles is correct.
[21:39] Speaker 2: But we have an advantage that King James the First
[21:42] Speaker 2: didn't have, which is when he first demanded this translation
[21:51] Speaker 2: in sixteen oh four, completed in sixteen eleven, there wasn't
[21:55] Speaker 2: the kind of textual evidence that we have today. And
[22:00] Speaker 2: our understanding of the ancient languages has improved. Language has
[22:05] Speaker 2: gone through a transition, and we have newer and better manuscripts.
[22:12] Speaker 2: You ask a KJV only guy, what does it mean?
[22:16] Speaker 2: Where Paul says an axe? From thence we fetched a compass.
[22:21] Speaker 2: I've tried it. They have narya clue. It means from
[22:25] Speaker 2: there we circled around, or ask him what the original
[22:32] Speaker 2: KJV meant and saw them four? How long will you
[22:37] Speaker 2: love vanity and seek after leasing? This doesn't have anything
[22:43] Speaker 2: to do with leasing an apartment. Leasing meant falsehood and
[22:49] Speaker 2: the newer versions so render the text. Or where Jesus
[22:54] Speaker 2: says in Matthew nineteen, suffer little children to come into me,
[22:58] Speaker 2: What in the world does that mean? Suffer? Well, happens
[23:02] Speaker 2: to be Let the children come unto me? And you
[23:07] Speaker 2: can go on and on, and look at the renderings
[23:10] Speaker 2: in the original KJV. They make little sense to us today.
[23:15] Speaker 2: And so what the modern translators do is they take
[23:18] Speaker 2: that which is connotative, that which has taken on the
[23:22] Speaker 2: barnacles of time, and make a denotative again. Not only so,
[23:28] Speaker 2: you have to ask the KJV only person, which KJV
[23:33] Speaker 2: are you talking about? Are you talking about the one
[23:36] Speaker 2: that says in Matthew twenty six, then cometh Judith when
[23:42] Speaker 2: it should read then cometh Jesus, or the seventh commandment
[23:46] Speaker 2: that read thou shalt commit adultery instead of thou shalt
[23:51] Speaker 2: not commit adultery, or the one that has in Luke
[23:55] Speaker 2: twenty Philip denying Jesus rather than Peter denying Jesus. Which
[24:01] Speaker 2: sixteen eleven KJV are you talking about? Because the KJV
[24:06] Speaker 2: went through some transitions in sixteen eleven. Is the KJV
[24:11] Speaker 2: a wonderful translation, yes? Is it one that withstood the
[24:15] Speaker 2: test of time for four hundred years? Yes? Is it
[24:20] Speaker 2: one in which we can find the authoritative word of God? Yes?
[24:25] Speaker 2: But is it infallible No? In fact, no Christian claims
[24:31] Speaker 2: infallibility for the translations. We claim infallibility for the autograph.
[24:36] Speaker 2: And the beauty is the autograph is not under glass
[24:41] Speaker 2: at the Vatican. The photographer is housed within the textual
[24:46] Speaker 2: evidence itself. So through the science of textual criticism, the
[24:50] Speaker 2: autograph emerges. You can't think of a more brilliant way
[24:55] Speaker 2: to preserve the Word of God than that, And of
[24:57] Speaker 2: course that's our God. That's one of the reasons you
[25:01] Speaker 2: can have such great trust in the Bibles we have today.
[25:08] Speaker 2: They are taking our understanding of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek
[25:15] Speaker 2: and applying it such that we now know that pim
[25:19] Speaker 2: has a meaning that is altogether different from the meaning
[25:23] Speaker 2: ascribed by the KJV authors. Archaeology came to the rescue.
[25:28] Speaker 2: We are in a very privileged position. Now, did the
[25:32] Speaker 2: KJV compromise anything when it came to faith in practice? No?
[25:36] Speaker 2: But was it an autograph? The answer is also no,
[25:40] Speaker 2: it was not an autograph. It is a translation. And
[25:44] Speaker 2: we now just have better textual evidence and so some
[25:47] Speaker 2: of the minor difficulties with the KJV have been reversed. Now,
[25:52] Speaker 2: I guess that's the theme of the show today. There's
[25:54] Speaker 2: a lot of misinformation circulating around the world today, and
[25:58] Speaker 2: as Christians, we need to be lovers of truth. We're
[26:02] Speaker 2: on the air because truth matters. If you love the
