On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank talks about the joy of contagious giving—the giving of time, talent, and treasure for the sake of the Kingdom. Every breath we have is held in the hollow of God's hand. May God grant that we use His resources wisely. Hank also answers the following questions: Given that even the Bible mentions other writings, how is it that the 27 books of the New Testament were canonized? James - Dallas, TX (9:15) Are we judged twice—once after death, and again at the time Christ returns? Janette - Omaha, NE (15:13) My mother has been widowed twice. What would her relationship be like with both of her husbands? Connie - St. Peters, MO (18:18) When or who must we forgive? Monica - Lincoln, NE (19:44) How do modern-day Jews handle atonement for their sins? Jason - Fresno, CA (22:17) Can you address the assertion that the Sahidic Coptic Version of John 1:1 supports the New World Translation? Gregory - Kansas City, MO (23:25)

[0:07] Speaker 1: Welcome to the best of the Bible answer Man Broadcast
[0:10] Speaker 1: with your host, Hank Hanagraph. Our mission is to equip
[0:14] Speaker 1: you with answers to share the hope that you have
[0:17] Speaker 1: within you because life and truth matter. Why because being
[0:23] Speaker 1: armed with truth will equip you to counter the corrosive
[0:26] Speaker 1: worldviews at work in our world today, while experiencing the
[0:29] Speaker 1: authentic Christian life will make you a winsome witness of
[0:33] Speaker 1: the purpose of life, which is to experience union with
[0:36] Speaker 1: God and Christ, both for today and for all eternity.
[0:41] Speaker 1: Our phone number is eight eight eight seven thousand CRI.
[0:45] Speaker 1: That's eight eight eight seven thousand CRII. You can find
[0:49] Speaker 1: us online at equip dot org. That's equip dot org.
[0:55] Speaker 1: The following program was prerecorded, and now to begin today's
[1:00] Speaker 1: this broadcast, here's Hank Anagraph.
[1:02] Speaker 2: Thank very much, Randy. I am delighted to be back
[1:05] Speaker 2: in studio. The first thing on my mind today is
[1:09] Speaker 2: our year end. We are approaching the end of our
[1:13] Speaker 2: fiscal year, and as I've said over the years, this
[1:18] Speaker 2: is one of those critical months in our history every
[1:22] Speaker 2: single year, so we ask people in a very special way.
[1:26] Speaker 2: We try not to overdo it, but we let people
[1:29] Speaker 2: know what the need is. If you don't ask, you
[1:31] Speaker 2: will not receive. And so we are asking people to
[1:35] Speaker 2: stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the battle for
[1:38] Speaker 2: life and truth. This ministry, beyond the peradventure of a doubt,
[1:43] Speaker 2: is making a difference in the lives of people all
[1:47] Speaker 2: over the globe. I see the testimonies myself. I got
[1:52] Speaker 2: a number of them handed to me today as I
[1:55] Speaker 2: came into the studio. David, for example, says in prayer
[1:58] Speaker 2: for you and Cri over two years ago, I had
[2:01] Speaker 2: hoped for a healing miracle, but prayed for God's will
[2:05] Speaker 2: to be done. Even though a healing miracle has occurred
[2:08] Speaker 2: in my life, I'm just as dependent upon his healing
[2:11] Speaker 2: hand as ever, because, as you have said, Jesus holds
[2:15] Speaker 2: are every breath in his hands, whether we have cancer
[2:19] Speaker 2: or not. So a word of encouragement, and these are
[2:24] Speaker 2: the kind of people that are standing shoulder to shoulder
[2:26] Speaker 2: with us in the battle for life and truth. And
[2:29] Speaker 2: we're asking you to join that team. We're not asking
[2:32] Speaker 2: you to give to this ministry, but we're asking you
[2:34] Speaker 2: to give through this ministry so that you might touch
[2:38] Speaker 2: the lives of people for time and for eternity. If
[2:42] Speaker 2: you have some of the Lord's resources and you can
[2:44] Speaker 2: give to this ministry, please do that. Our contact information
[2:48] Speaker 2: for those of you that want to give via the
[2:50] Speaker 2: mail box eighty five hundred Charlotte, North Carolina, zip code
[2:55] Speaker 2: two eight two seven one. You can also give via
[2:59] Speaker 2: the web equip dot org, or you can talk to
[3:03] Speaker 2: one of our resource consultant that number triple eight seven
[3:08] Speaker 2: thousand on the letters here. We also have many other
[3:12] Speaker 2: ways that we're reaching out to people through podcasts. If
[3:16] Speaker 2: you haven't gone to iTunes and subscribe to our podcast
[3:21] Speaker 2: there or wherever you consume your favorite podcasts, you can
[3:26] Speaker 2: do so, or you can listen on the web at
[3:29] Speaker 2: equip dot org as well. This is one of the
[3:33] Speaker 2: most enriching ways of touching your life that I can
[3:37] Speaker 2: think of. I'm talking to some of the brightest minds
[3:40] Speaker 2: in the Christian world. The conversations are all conversations you
[3:45] Speaker 2: want to listen in on, and you have the opportunity
[3:47] Speaker 2: to do that through the podcast, so please take advantage
[3:51] Speaker 2: of that. I want to say a little bit about
[3:53] Speaker 2: a biblical view of wealth, and then we'll go to
[3:56] Speaker 2: our callers. The first thing I want to mention is
[3:59] Speaker 2: that I am persua. And by the way, I'm not
[4:02] Speaker 2: just talking to you, I'm talking to myself. But I'm
[4:04] Speaker 2: persuaded that the Bible teaches responsibility associated with wealth, and
[4:11] Speaker 2: I suppose from the standpoint of the broader globe all
[4:15] Speaker 2: of us, where the vast majority to whom I'm speaking
[4:19] Speaker 2: right now, are wealthy. God's word encourages us to use
[4:23] Speaker 2: money for the sake of the kingdom. And it's not
[4:27] Speaker 2: just money. I don't mean to trivialize everything to what
[4:32] Speaker 2: you actually give, because the giving of your time, the
[4:36] Speaker 2: giving of your talent is very significant for kingdom purposes.
[4:41] Speaker 2: But obviously we ask that people support this ministry financially
[4:46] Speaker 2: as well. It's a very practical way in which you
[4:50] Speaker 2: can continue to standder to shoulder with us in the
[4:52] Speaker 2: battle for life and truth. Why well, it's crucial to
[4:55] Speaker 2: realize that the earth is the Lord's and everything in it,
[5:00] Speaker 2: the world and all who live therein So the bottom
[5:04] Speaker 2: line here, according to the text, is that God is
[5:07] Speaker 2: the Landlord. We are just tenants. We didn't arrive with anything,
[5:13] Speaker 2: and we will not take anything with us when we leave.
[5:17] Speaker 2: I mean, every single breath is held in the hollow
[5:21] Speaker 2: of the Lord's hand. We didn't come with anything, We're
[5:24] Speaker 2: not going to leave with anything. So in those moments,
[5:27] Speaker 2: you think, when I stand before you, Lord, are you
[5:29] Speaker 2: going to be pleased with how I used my time
[5:32] Speaker 2: and my talent and my treasure. So it's important to
[5:37] Speaker 2: view wealth with eternity and mind to lead our lives
[5:42] Speaker 2: here down below as responsible stewards, whether we have a
[5:47] Speaker 2: little or a lot, so that one day at the
[5:49] Speaker 2: judgment God himself will reward us. So ultimately, it's not
[5:54] Speaker 2: a bank statement on earth accounts, it's the one in heaven.
[5:58] Speaker 2: And I want to share just one verse with you
[6:01] Speaker 2: and then go on to the questions, and that is this.
[6:04] Speaker 2: The Bible chronicles the prayer of David, and I love
[6:08] Speaker 2: this prayer because David is thanking God for the very
[6:10] Speaker 2: privilege of being able to give to the work of
[6:13] Speaker 2: the Lord. So this is what David says, But who
[6:17] Speaker 2: am I and who are my people? That we should
[6:26] Speaker 2: be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes
[6:31] Speaker 2: from you, and we have given you only what comes
[6:36] Speaker 2: from your hand. And now I have seen with joy,
[6:41] Speaker 2: how willingly your people who are here have given to you.
[6:49] Speaker 3: And I think.
[6:49] Speaker 2: About that verse because as a result of the giving,
[6:55] Speaker 2: a temple is built, and that temple contained the glory
[6:59] Speaker 2: of God. And that temple remained significant to the children
[7:05] Speaker 2: of Israel because through that temple the priest gave sacrifices
[7:12] Speaker 2: pointing to an ultimate sacrificial lamb. So there was immense
[7:17] Speaker 2: significance to the temple. It had a huge, huge impact
[7:22] Speaker 2: on the world, in fact, only from the perspective of eternity,
[7:25] Speaker 2: where we fully know how huge that impact was. Of course,
[7:30] Speaker 2: when Christ came, there's no need for the temple, but
[7:32] Speaker 2: that temple was the way shower, as it were to Christ.
[7:38] Speaker 2: So Christ comes and that temple has made a huge
[7:41] Speaker 2: difference in the meantime. And so I suppose that what
[7:45] Speaker 2: I'm saying here is that there's no telling what could
[7:48] Speaker 2: be accomplished in our generation. If we too catch the
[7:52] Speaker 2: joy of contagious giving. We would be empowered to spread
[7:58] Speaker 2: the Gospel around the globe. We would be enabled to
[8:02] Speaker 2: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick,
[8:07] Speaker 2: and like our forefathers, our generation might yet leave an
[8:13] Speaker 2: indelible mark on this world. So what does Solomon say
[8:19] Speaker 2: in Proverbs, honor the Lord with your possessions and with
[8:23] Speaker 2: the first fruits of your increase, so that your barns
[8:26] Speaker 2: will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow
[8:30] Speaker 2: with new wine. In other words, the arm of the
[8:32] Speaker 2: Lord is longer than yours, and he will supply to
[8:35] Speaker 2: you as you supply to ministries. God ordains the ends
[8:39] Speaker 2: as well as the means. He doesn't need our money,
[8:41] Speaker 2: but he is teaching us something through giving, and so
[8:46] Speaker 2: give as you have been given. Give generously. If you
[8:48] Speaker 2: love this ministry, if this ministry has made a difference
[8:51] Speaker 2: in your life, if you're seeing the difference it's making
[8:53] Speaker 2: the lives of others. We're asking people to give and
[8:57] Speaker 2: give generously. You can do so again in a safe,
[9:00] Speaker 2: secure fashion on the webit equipped dot org. Again. You
[9:03] Speaker 2: can write me at Post Office Box eighty five hundred, Charlotte,
[9:05] Speaker 2: North Carolina, zip code two eight two seven one Resource
[9:09] Speaker 2: Consultants standing by triple eight seven thousand and the letters
[9:13] Speaker 2: c RII. Let's see if I can just so many
[9:17] Speaker 2: people hanging on, let me at least get one called in.
[9:20] Speaker 2: This will have to be very quick. James Dallas, Texas
[9:23] Speaker 2: listing on the web. Hi James, Hello Henk.
[9:27] Speaker 4: First of all, I don't say thank you to you
[9:28] Speaker 4: for your ministry, for you for your books you've written.
[9:30] Speaker 4: I've listened to you since the nineties and thousand high school,
[9:34] Speaker 4: and right now, your ministry, you and your family are
[9:37] Speaker 4: my prayers. But I had a quick question on the cannon.
[9:40] Speaker 4: I read in Luke where Luke Tostyopolis. Hey, you know
[9:44] Speaker 4: a lot of people have taken you an orderly account.
[9:46] Speaker 4: I'm gonna do the same thing to make sure that
[9:48] Speaker 4: you're certain of the things you've been taught. And then
[9:51] Speaker 4: in Corinthians Polices that he wrote another letter. So my
[9:54] Speaker 4: question is being that there's other sources and also the
[9:58] Speaker 4: theory of Q. What the the twenty seven books of
[10:01] Speaker 4: the New Testament canon?
[10:02] Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to have to give you a short
[10:04] Speaker 2: sound bite to be elaborated if you look on the web.
[10:08] Speaker 2: A lot of resources that we have on this subject,
[10:10] Speaker 2: but the sound bite. The early church fathers accepted books
[10:15] Speaker 2: as part of the canon on the basis that they
[10:19] Speaker 2: were widely used within the churches and ultimately traceable to
[10:24] Speaker 2: the authority of the apostles and the prophets. Much more
[10:29] Speaker 2: could be said. This is a deep well subject, but
[10:33] Speaker 2: unfortunately up against a time clock. Thanks for calling in
[10:38] Speaker 2: that again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
[10:40] Speaker 2: to those who are already standing with us, shouldered to
[10:43] Speaker 2: shoulder in the battle for life and truth. You're making
[10:45] Speaker 2: a difference not only for time, but also for eternity.
[10:49] Speaker 2: We'll be right back.
[10:50] Speaker 1: If you were going into combat, what would be more
[10:53] Speaker 1: important the number of those who were for you or
[10:56] Speaker 1: the number of those who were with you? Now apply
[10:59] Speaker 1: that question to today's battle for the hearts and minds of
[11:02] Speaker 1: literally millions of people at home and abroad. That's what
[11:06] Speaker 1: makes members of CRI's support teams so vital. They're not
[11:11] Speaker 1: simply for CRI's critical mission. They're standing with CRI each
[11:16] Speaker 1: and every day. If you want your voice and your
[11:19] Speaker 1: values to be heard twenty four to seven through the
[11:21] Speaker 1: outreaches of the Christian Research Institute, become a member of
[11:25] Speaker 1: CRI's support team today. Just call eight eight eight seven
[11:29] Speaker 1: thousand CRII to stand with CRII daily in the battle
[11:33] Speaker 1: for life and truth. And as our thanks, Hank Canagraph

[12:04] Speaker 1: Evan Alexandra's wildly popular near death experience book Proof of
[12:08] Speaker 1: Heaven assures us that no matter what we do in
[12:11] Speaker 1: this life, only unconditional love and joy await us in
[12:14] Speaker 1: the world to come. But our Lord warned that while
[12:18] Speaker 1: the gate to Hell is wide, the road to it broad,
[12:21] Speaker 1: and those who enter through it are many, the gate
[12:23] Speaker 1: is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life,
[12:26] Speaker 1: and those who find it are few. Your generous support,
[12:30] Speaker 1: let's Hank hanograph and see Uri speak out against the
[12:33] Speaker 1: lies that lead to Hell. In appreciation for your gift, today,

[13:29] Speaker 1: and many more issues vital to a better understanding of

[14:02] Speaker 1: won the Battle of Stalingrad. It appeared at first the
[14:05] Speaker 1: Nazi war machine would secure the victory, but the Soviets
[14:08] Speaker 1: battled back from near certain defeat with extraordinary courage and
[14:13] Speaker 1: resoluteness to turn the tide of the battle and ultimately
[14:16] Speaker 1: the war. The lesson is that both men and material
[14:20] Speaker 1: people and provisions played a critical role. Willingness to fight
[14:24] Speaker 1: and munitions in the arsenal were pivotal our contemporary battle
[14:29] Speaker 1: for truth against anti Christian secularists raises the stakes above
[14:33] Speaker 1: the significance of Stalingrad. CRI likewise needs military partners willing
[14:39] Speaker 1: to stand for truth, along with the financial means to
[14:42] Speaker 1: accomplish the mission. Stand with us during the key month
[14:46] Speaker 1: of June to end the fiscal year in a position
[14:48] Speaker 1: of strength. Call eight eight eight seven thousand CROI and
[14:52] Speaker 1: make a gift to support CRI's life changing outreaches or
[14:56] Speaker 1: visit equip dot org. Now back to the Bible answer
[15:08] Speaker 1: Man broadcast and your host and canagraph.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Randy, and let's get right back
[15:13] Speaker 2: to our phone callers. Jeanette listening in Omaha, Nebraska. Your
[15:17] Speaker 2: next Hi, Jeanette, Hi.
[15:20] Speaker 5: Hank, thank you for your ministry.
[15:22] Speaker 2: Well, thank you.
[15:23] Speaker 5: I'm just wondering if we are essentially judged twice, one
[15:28] Speaker 5: when we die and then again when Christ returns, And
[15:33] Speaker 5: if that's true, what are we being judged for the
[15:37] Speaker 5: second time if the first time we are judged for
[15:41] Speaker 5: our salvation.
[15:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think in a sense you can say we
[15:45] Speaker 2: are judged twice, but there is a qualitative difference. And
[15:48] Speaker 2: let me explain that there's a sense in which you
[15:52] Speaker 2: can see that there is judgment that takes place at
[15:55] Speaker 2: the moment of death. You see that in Luke chapter sixteen,
[16:00] Speaker 2: the rich man in Lazarus are both judged. The beggar
[16:05] Speaker 2: Lazarus ends up in Abraham's wisdom or paradise, so he
[16:10] Speaker 2: is found to be in relationship with God. He is
[16:15] Speaker 2: enjoying heavenly bliss, heavenly bliss being defined as being in
[16:20] Speaker 2: the presence of God. The rich man, however, ends up
[16:26] Speaker 2: in torments, so he is experiencing judgment. However, when the
[16:31] Speaker 2: Lord Jesus Christ appears the second time and puts all
[16:35] Speaker 2: things to right, there will be a judgment that takes place,
[16:39] Speaker 2: and everyone will receive according to what he has done,
[16:46] Speaker 2: which is to say, there are degrees of reward in
[16:49] Speaker 2: heaven and degrees of punishment in hell. Jesus said, behold,
[16:56] Speaker 2: I come quickly. My reward is with me, and I'll
[16:59] Speaker 2: give to everyone according to what he has done. The
[17:04] Speaker 2: Bible consistently teaches us that what we do now counts
[17:09] Speaker 2: for all eternity. As far as the unregenatorre concerned. We
[17:12] Speaker 2: can safely conclude that a garden variety pagan is not
[17:17] Speaker 2: going to suffer the same torment or receive the same
[17:21] Speaker 2: sentence as someone like Osama bin Laden or a Hitler
[17:26] Speaker 2: or a Paul Pott.
[17:29] Speaker 5: Okay, thank you.
[17:31] Speaker 2: You're welcome. I've written about this in a number of
[17:33] Speaker 2: different forums, including my book Resurrection. There's a chapter there
[17:37] Speaker 2: that is not often preached on by modern day pastors,
[17:41] Speaker 2: but you will see by my references that Jesus Christ
[17:46] Speaker 2: did speak often about the situation regarding rewards. Do not
[17:53] Speaker 2: lay up for yourselves, or do not store up for
[17:56] Speaker 2: yourselves treasures on earth, said Jesus, where moth and russ corrupt,
[18:01] Speaker 2: and where thieves break in and steel, But rather store
[18:06] Speaker 2: for yourself treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do
[18:09] Speaker 2: not corrupt, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
[18:13] Speaker 2: For where your treasure is there, your heart will be
[18:17] Speaker 2: also Next up as Connie listening in Saint Peter's Missouri.
[18:21] Speaker 6: Hi, Connie, Hi, thank you for taking my call a pleasure.
[18:26] Speaker 6: My mother has been widowed twice, both wonderful Christian men.
[18:31] Speaker 6: But when she gets to Heaven, what is the relationship
[18:35] Speaker 6: for them at that point? I mean they'll know each
[18:37] Speaker 6: other as brothers and sisters in Christ.
[18:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, widowed twice, who will she be married to? Well? Earth?
[18:44] Speaker 2: Is the breeding colony, Heaven is the homeland, and therefore
[18:48] Speaker 2: we can safely assume that in heaven we're going to
[18:52] Speaker 2: be like the angels, not in that we're going to
[18:54] Speaker 2: be non physical, but we're neither going to be married
[18:58] Speaker 2: nor be given in marriage. As such, your mom will
[19:03] Speaker 2: have a relationship with all the redeemed, but that relationship
[19:08] Speaker 2: will be far different. That does not mean in any
[19:12] Speaker 2: way diminished, but far different than the relationship in this
[19:17] Speaker 2: time space continuum. I love my wife and married to
[19:19] Speaker 2: my wife. I'm not going to be married to my
[19:22] Speaker 2: wife in heaven. The relationship I will have with Kathy
[19:28] Speaker 2: is going to exceed the greatest joy I have ever
[19:33] Speaker 2: experienced with her in this lifetime. That's what I've got
[19:37] Speaker 2: to look forward to. And so our relationships will be different,
[19:42] Speaker 2: not diminished, but better. We'll go make the phone lines.
[19:45] Speaker 2: Talk to Monica listening when Lincoln, Nebraska.
[19:47] Speaker 1: Hi, Monica, Hi, how are you?
[19:50] Speaker 2: I'm good?
[19:50] Speaker 7: Thank you, Thank you very very much for picking a call.
[19:54] Speaker 2: Oh, my pleasure.
[19:55] Speaker 7: I was wondering. I actually was reading in your Bible
[19:59] Speaker 7: answer book about forgiveness. Yeah, and I just was hoping
[20:04] Speaker 7: you could clarify and give me a little more understanding
[20:07] Speaker 7: on I guess my question is when or who you
[20:10] Speaker 7: have to forgive. I thought what I read implied or
[20:15] Speaker 7: said that forgiving someone isn't required if they aren't asking
[20:18] Speaker 7: for forgiveness, and then I kind of wondered if that
[20:20] Speaker 7: principle applies to God's forgiveness for us, you know, if
[20:26] Speaker 7: we don't actually verbalize please forgive me, or that I've
[20:32] Speaker 7: sinned or yeah.
[20:34] Speaker 2: And that's a good question, Monica. In fact, I think
[20:37] Speaker 2: the issue with God is very relevant to answering the question.
[20:40] Speaker 2: God objectively offers us forgiveness and the restoration of fellowship,
[20:46] Speaker 2: but that forgiveness is not subjectively realized unless we repent.
[20:52] Speaker 2: And I don't think we should set a higher standard
[20:56] Speaker 2: than the standard that God sets, and that is the
[20:59] Speaker 2: highest stand and that becomes the operative standard for us.
[21:04] Speaker 2: So my point is that forgiveness is always a two
[21:09] Speaker 2: way street. It takes someone who is willing to forgive
[21:13] Speaker 2: and someone who is wanting to be forgiven. Because if
[21:18] Speaker 2: you don't have both aspects, or both sides to the coin,
[21:22] Speaker 2: as it were, then restoration of relationship simply does not
[21:27] Speaker 2: take place. So from our perspective as Christians, we always
[21:33] Speaker 2: have to be willing to forgive. But on the other
[21:37] Speaker 2: side of the coin, you have to have someone who
[21:39] Speaker 2: is wanting to be forgiven. Because unless there is someone
[21:42] Speaker 2: who is wanting to be forgiven, reconciliation doesn't take place.
[21:46] Speaker 2: And that is true not only in personal relationships, but
[21:50] Speaker 2: certainly it is to the point of your prologue to
[21:54] Speaker 2: the question. It is true in our relationship with God.
[21:58] Speaker 2: God objectively offers us forgiveness, that forgiveness is not subjectively
[22:05] Speaker 2: realized unless we repent and embrace or receive Jesus Christ
[22:13] Speaker 2: as savior and Lord of our lives. Let's talk to
[22:17] Speaker 2: Jason next in Fresno, California.
[22:20] Speaker 8: Hi Jason, Hi Hank, how you doing today.
[22:23] Speaker 2: I'm well, thank you.
[22:25] Speaker 8: I just want to say, you know, God bless you
[22:27] Speaker 8: for your ministry. My question is, I was talking to
[22:30] Speaker 8: my father about this the other day. If the Jewish
[22:33] Speaker 8: people do not believe the Judaism that Jesus Christ is
[22:36] Speaker 8: the Messiah, and we understand that he is the atonement
[22:40] Speaker 8: for our sins and animal sacrifice used to be that
[22:44] Speaker 8: blood atonement for our sins, then how does Judaism atone
[22:47] Speaker 8: for their sins? Now?
[22:49] Speaker 2: Well, they don't which is to say that there is
[22:53] Speaker 2: no more temple. So Jews do not practice temple Judaism.
[22:58] Speaker 2: They practice Torah Judaism. So there are different strains of Judaism,
[23:05] Speaker 2: but Orthodox Jews are known for their strict dedication to
[23:11] Speaker 2: the Mosaic Law as reinterpreted by the Rabbi subsequent to
[23:15] Speaker 2: the fall of Jerusalem.
[23:17] Speaker 8: Yes, well, you know, thank you so much, Hank, and
[23:20] Speaker 8: God bless you, your family and everybody over there. You
[23:22] Speaker 8: have a good day, sir.
[23:24] Speaker 2: Thank you. Back to the phone lines, let's go to Gregory,
[23:27] Speaker 2: Kansas City, Missouri. Hi, Gregory, good afternoon.
[23:32] Speaker 3: Hey, I was actually just calling. I read an article
[23:35] Speaker 3: about the Sahitic Coptic version of John one one and
[23:40] Speaker 3: I just wanted to hear your take on that. Does
[23:42] Speaker 3: the fact that it's translated the same way the New
[23:45] Speaker 3: World translation is translated in Jononua one does that show
[23:49] Speaker 3: that that particular translation in Jomua one shouldn't be vilified
[23:53] Speaker 3: or that it's actually grammatically correct in it actually a
[23:58] Speaker 3: pretty decent interpretation of John one.
[24:01] Speaker 2: No, it doesn't mean that at all. In fact, there
[24:03] Speaker 2: is plenty of manuscript evidence that points in the opposite direction.
[24:08] Speaker 2: But more to the point that Jehovah's witness have a
[24:12] Speaker 2: very simplistic argument. What they say is if a definite
[24:16] Speaker 2: article does not appear before the noun, in this case
[24:21] Speaker 2: theos or God, then the noun has to be modified
[24:26] Speaker 2: by an indefinite article, and therefore they provide the rendering
[24:31] Speaker 2: in the New World translation the word was a God
[24:35] Speaker 2: as opposed to the word was God. But here's the point.
[24:41] Speaker 2: They don't even live up to their own rule, because
[24:45] Speaker 2: if they did, John one six would read there came
[24:51] Speaker 2: a man sent from a God. His name was a John.
[24:59] Speaker 2: It doesn't take an expert on Greek syntax to recognize
[25:03] Speaker 2: that this is utter nonsense, and their grammatical gyrations end
[25:10] Speaker 2: up obscuring the genius of John. The construction of John
[25:16] Speaker 2: is so brilliant in that he expresses an idea in
[25:21] Speaker 2: the most concise way that he could possibly have stated it,
[25:26] Speaker 2: the word was with God and yet was distinct from
[25:32] Speaker 2: the Father. The grammatical genius in and of itself is
[25:37] Speaker 2: often lost by the tampering that the Jehovah's witnesses due
[25:41] Speaker 2: to the text of scripture, and this is not only
[25:45] Speaker 2: in John. Certainly they do it in coloutions as well.
[25:49] Speaker 2: They add the word other four times following the fifteenth verse,
[25:54] Speaker 2: in order to make Jesus Christ a junior partner in
[25:57] Speaker 2: the creation of all other things, as opposed to the
[26:02] Speaker 2: one who spoke and the universe leapt into existence. Please
