Doctors talk about gut feelings, but what happens when intuition becomes a trained skill? Certified Medical Intuitive Practitioner Wendie Colter, president of the National Organization for Medical Intuition, joins Dr. Adam Brockman to explain what medical intuition is and what it is not. They also look at what the early research shows and where the science still needs to catch up. It's an honest, open-minded look at a topic that will make some listeners lean in and others raise an eyebrow.

[2:04] Speaker 1: So I want to go ahead and start with a question.
[2:06] Speaker 1: Has a doctor ever said to you, I can't explain why,
[2:10] Speaker 1: but something told me to order that test? Or have
[2:14] Speaker 1: you ever walked into a room yourself, you looked at
[2:17] Speaker 1: someone and thought, something isn't right, before you could put
[2:21] Speaker 1: a reason behind it? If you have, you've experienced intuition.
[2:26] Speaker 1: And if you work in healthcare, I'd wager that you've
[2:29] Speaker 1: seen it at the bedside more times than you can count.
[2:33] Speaker 1: Experienced clinicians talk about it openly in the break room,
[2:38] Speaker 1: even if they don't put it in the chart. They
[2:40] Speaker 1: call that the gut feeling, a sixth sense. or clinical intuition.
[2:46] Speaker 1: So say, a nurse who knows a patient is about
[2:49] Speaker 1: to crash before the monitor says so. A physician who
[2:52] Speaker 1: senses a patient is holding something back. Intuition, it's quietly
[2:58] Speaker 1: run through the art of healing for thousands of years,
[3:01] Speaker 1: and we've all heard stories of lives saved because someone
[3:05] Speaker 1: listened to it. Now, today's healthcare system is built for speed,
[3:10] Speaker 1: short visits, long checklists, a mountain of paperwork. Practitioners are
[3:17] Speaker 1: burnt out, and patients often feel unheard. Millions of Americans
[3:23] Speaker 1: live with symptoms that nobody can explain, or conditions that
[3:28] Speaker 1: haven't responded to treatment, and many of them are asking
[3:33] Speaker 1: the simple question, is anyone looking at the whole person?
[3:37] Speaker 1: There's also a growing body of evidence that when something
[3:42] Speaker 1: happens in our lives that It shows up in our bodies.
[3:46] Speaker 1: Chronic stress, unresolved grief, and long-term emotional strain are linked
[3:52] Speaker 1: with higher blood pressure and poor sleep, digestive trouble, immune resilience,
[3:58] Speaker 1: all things that we talk about on the show. Most
[4:01] Speaker 1: practitioners know this. Few have the time to explore it
[4:05] Speaker 1: in a 15-minute appointment. So when a patient says, I
[4:09] Speaker 1: think this is connected to what I've been going through,
[4:13] Speaker 1: The best practitioners listen. The question is how to listen
[4:18] Speaker 1: well and how to do it in a way that's
[4:21] Speaker 1: responsible and also grounded. And this is the space that
[4:26] Speaker 1: our guest today works in. So today we're going to
[4:29] Speaker 1: talk about medical intuition. It's a topic that will make
[4:34] Speaker 1: some of you lean forward and make others raise an eyebrow.
[4:38] Speaker 1: Both reactions are welcome here. I'm a physician who believes
[4:43] Speaker 1: in keeping an open mind in a critical one at
[4:45] Speaker 1: the same time. So we're going to ask questions. What
[4:49] Speaker 1: is medical intuition? What it is and what it is not?
[4:53] Speaker 1: What does the research show and what it does not show?
[4:57] Speaker 1: And how might it fit alongside conventional care and also
[5:02] Speaker 1: not replace it? So I want to go ahead and
[5:05] Speaker 1: be clear about what we're going to discuss today. Medical intuition,
[5:09] Speaker 1: as our guest describes it, it's not a substitute for
[5:13] Speaker 1: licensed medical care. If you have a symptom that worries you,
[5:17] Speaker 1: see a practitioner. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing,
[5:22] Speaker 1: or any emergency, call 911. Think of what we discussed
[5:26] Speaker 1: today as an exploration of a complementary tool and weigh
[5:32] Speaker 1: it the way that you'd weigh anything, with curiosity, with questions,
[5:37] Speaker 1: and with your own good judgment. And one more note,
[5:41] Speaker 1: our guest does not perform readings during media interviews, so
[5:45] Speaker 1: please don't call in asking for one. What we can
[5:49] Speaker 1: do is learn from her expertise and ask about the
[5:53] Speaker 1: research and how it can help you. So let me
[5:56] Speaker 1: go ahead and introduce her. Wendy Coulter is a certified
[6:00] Speaker 1: medical intuitive practitioner and a master certified wellness coach. She
[6:05] Speaker 1: is the founder and CEO of The Practical Path. That's
[6:09] Speaker 1: an organization that presents intuitive development programs for healthcare professionals
[6:14] Speaker 1: in the public. She's also the president of the National
[6:17] Speaker 1: Organization for Medical Intuition. Her accredited certification program, Medical Intuitive Training,
[6:25] Speaker 1: has helped integrative and healthcare practitioners alike, including doctors, nurses,
[6:31] Speaker 1: and wellness practitioners, in developing their own medical intuition. She's
[6:36] Speaker 1: also been in private practice for more than 20 years,
[6:39] Speaker 1: and she's been teaching intuitive development for 15. Wendy is
[6:44] Speaker 1: an invited presenter at prominent health and education organizations, including
[6:49] Speaker 1: the Academy for Integrative Health and also the Dr. Andrew
[6:53] Speaker 1: Wells Center for Integrative Medicine. Her research on medical intuition
[6:58] Speaker 1: has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she's the author
[7:02] Speaker 1: of an award-winning book, Essentials of Medical Intuition, A Visionary
[7:07] Speaker 1: Path to Wellness. Wendy, welcome to Health Talk America. How
[7:10] Speaker 1: are you today?
[7:12] Speaker 3: Thank you, Dr. Adam. I'm wonderful. So great to be here.
[7:15] Speaker 3: Thank you so much for having me.
[7:17] Speaker 1: Well, it's a pleasure to have you here. So I
[7:19] Speaker 1: want to go ahead and get started with the question
[7:21] Speaker 1: I suspect a lot of our listeners have. When you
[7:25] Speaker 1: tell someone at a dinner party that you've got medical intuition,
[7:30] Speaker 1: what happens? What's the conversation like?
[7:33] Speaker 3: Usually it's a pretty wonderful conversation because the first question
[7:37] Speaker 3: people ask is, what's that? Right. So it's a conversation starter, really.
[7:42] Speaker 3: And it's wonderful. And I love speaking with doctors. I
[7:46] Speaker 3: work directly with doctors, as many medical intuitives do. And
[7:52] Speaker 3: many of them come and take my programs as well.
[7:56] Speaker 1: Well, this is a good place to begin because, you know,
[7:59] Speaker 1: I want to get into some of this definition with it.
[8:02] Speaker 1: So if we're looking before we get into a lot
[8:05] Speaker 1: of detail, tell us a little about who comes to you.
[8:09] Speaker 1: Who is the typical person or the practitioner who seeks
[8:12] Speaker 1: this out?
[8:14] Speaker 3: Well, there's two different. The clients are typically the people
[8:18] Speaker 3: that you discussed in the beginning, that you mentioned, folks
[8:21] Speaker 3: who have felt that the medical world has not given
[8:26] Speaker 3: them what they need to heal. That's typical for medical intuitives.
[8:30] Speaker 3: We're almost the last stop on the train sometimes for
[8:33] Speaker 3: folks that really feel like they haven't gotten the answers
[8:37] Speaker 3: they need to heal whatever's going on for them. So
[8:40] Speaker 3: that's typically been our clientele. I'm happy to say that
[8:45] Speaker 3: that's changing in that we still, of course, get those
[8:48] Speaker 3: folks because Western medicine, conventional medicine has some gaps in it.
[8:52] Speaker 3: We can all agree on that, right? And what we do,
[8:56] Speaker 3: which I'll explain in a bit, really can help guide
[9:00] Speaker 3: and create a roadmap for folks. In terms of the
[9:03] Speaker 3: people that come and take my programs or are interested
[9:06] Speaker 3: in it as to become medical intuitives themselves, you know,
[9:09] Speaker 3: over the years I've been teaching, it's been wonderful to
[9:12] Speaker 3: see the integrative and functional and holistic healthcare communities really
[9:17] Speaker 3: start to gravitate here. What you said in the beginning, Dr. Adam,
[9:20] Speaker 3: was perfect in that every time I go and give
[9:23] Speaker 3: a lecture or a presentation at a healthcare conference or
[9:27] Speaker 3: something like that, there's a line of physicians, nurses, practitioners
[9:32] Speaker 3: of all kinds, providers of all kinds saying, I know
[9:35] Speaker 3: exactly what you're talking about. This happened to me. And
[9:39] Speaker 3: it helped my patients. So it's not unheard of. As
[9:43] Speaker 3: a matter of fact, what doctors have told me is
[9:45] Speaker 3: what you're talking about, Wendy, or what you're teaching is
[9:48] Speaker 3: the art of medicine. And I love that.
[9:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great place to start this conversation. So
[9:56] Speaker 1: we just got a minute or so before break. And
[9:58] Speaker 1: so I want to take this up on the other side,
[10:02] Speaker 1: describing in general terms what a session is like. So
[10:05] Speaker 1: this curiosity, I love it. And I always say it's
[10:10] Speaker 1: with a critical eye, and that's exactly the spirit that
[10:13] Speaker 1: we like here on the show with our listeners. And
[10:15] Speaker 1: we've got a lot to cover. We're going to talk
[10:17] Speaker 1: about what medical intuition actually is, the research behind it,
[10:21] Speaker 1: her book, and what she sees for the future. And
[10:24] Speaker 1: if you've got questions as we go along today, I
[10:27] Speaker 1: want you to call us at 800-606-8255. 888-888-8822. Coming up,
[10:32] Speaker 1: we'll define medical intuition in language for everyone, hear what
[10:37] Speaker 1: drew Wendy to this work, and walk through the studies
[10:40] Speaker 1: that have been published. So whether you're a believer, a skeptic,
[10:44] Speaker 1: or somewhere in between, I want you to stay with
[10:46] Speaker 1: us this hour. This is Health Talk America, and we'll
[10:48] Speaker 1: be right back after this short break. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman,
[11:01] Speaker 1: host of Health Talk America, the nation's number one health
[11:04] Speaker 1: talk radio show. And today, I want to talk to
[11:06] Speaker 1: men who are watching their hair disappear and wondering if
[11:09] Speaker 1: anything actually works. Here's what I tell my listeners. The
[11:13] Speaker 1: science on hair loss is solid, and Lock Lab has
[11:16] Speaker 1: put it all in one daily pill. Lock Lab combines
[11:20] Speaker 1: three clinically proven ingredients. Finasteride that blocks DHT, the hormone
[11:25] Speaker 1: that's literally killing your hair follicles. And it's also got minoxidil.
[11:29] Speaker 1: It increases oxygen and nutrients to the scalp to stimulate
[11:32] Speaker 1: real regrowth. And biotin, the essential vitamin your hair needs
[11:37] Speaker 1: to grow thick and strong. The result, Lock Lab is
[11:41] Speaker 1: 97% effective at stopping hair loss and 90% effective at
[11:45] Speaker 1: improving hair coverage for just $ 35 a month with free shipping.
[11:50] Speaker 1: No mess, no multiple products, one pill once a day.
[11:54] Speaker 1: Visit locklab.co, that's L-O-C-K-L-A-B.co and get started today.
[12:02] Speaker 2: Music Thank you.
[12:14] Speaker 1: Welcome back to Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman,
[12:17] Speaker 1: and my guest this hour is Wendy Coulter, a certified
[12:21] Speaker 1: medical intuitive practitioner. And if you're just joining us, our
[12:25] Speaker 1: phone lines are open at 800-606-8822. That's 800-606-8822. And you
[12:32] Speaker 1: can find us at healthtalkamerica.com or on our YouTube channel
[12:36] Speaker 1: by searching Health Talk America and myself, Dr. Adam Brockman. Okay,
[12:40] Speaker 1: so Wendy, before the break, we're talking about intuition and
[12:45] Speaker 1: really haven't got into the science behind this as well.
[12:49] Speaker 1: So I want to go ahead and get started out
[12:52] Speaker 1: of the gate here by explaining really what medical intuition
[12:56] Speaker 1: is and what maybe a typical session may look like
[12:59] Speaker 1: if a practitioner wants to learn more or the patient
[13:04] Speaker 1: or listener themselves.
[13:06] Speaker 3: Very good. So, you know, when I talk about medical intuition,
[13:10] Speaker 3: sometimes it's better to start with what it isn't. And
[13:13] Speaker 3: in the introduction, you correctly said it's not diagnosis. It's
[13:17] Speaker 3: not meant to replace medical care. It's meant to support
[13:21] Speaker 3: medical care of all kinds. So it's not an interventional process.
[13:27] Speaker 3: It is an informational process, which is really interesting. because
[13:31] Speaker 3: there's a ton of information. And the premise of medical
[13:34] Speaker 3: intuition is that the physical body holds, and our biofield,
[13:38] Speaker 3: if we can go there, which is the energy field
[13:42] Speaker 3: that surrounds and permeates our body, it holds all kinds
[13:46] Speaker 3: of information, physical, emotional, mental, even spiritual. And that information
[13:52] Speaker 3: can be discerned by a qualified and trained medical intuitive
[13:57] Speaker 3: or someone who knows what they're doing, right? And it
[14:00] Speaker 3: The accuracy rates that we've found are pretty phenomenal. We
[14:03] Speaker 3: can talk about that when we talk about the research.
[14:06] Speaker 3: But that information is designed to help our client or
[14:10] Speaker 3: patient learn more about what the issue is physiologically, right,
[14:16] Speaker 3: in anatomy and physiology, what's going on mentally, emotionally, because
[14:22] Speaker 3: we know about the mind-body connection and how that works.
[14:26] Speaker 3: I can talk more about that as well. And also...
[14:30] Speaker 3: why something manifested, and the root cause of that manifestation.
[14:35] Speaker 3: In healthcare, people like to talk about root cause a lot,
[14:39] Speaker 3: but medical intuitives really do deal with where something began,
[14:43] Speaker 3: and it may not be an obvious thing, typically it isn't,
[14:46] Speaker 3: to the client or patient, because these things have a
[14:50] Speaker 3: long history, right? I can go off on a lot
[14:54] Speaker 3: of places here, but I'll say that that's also in
[14:56] Speaker 3: the science. adverse childhood experiences, ACEs, is very well known now,
[15:03] Speaker 3: which means that in early life, if there are traumas,
[15:06] Speaker 3: very often or sometimes it can lead to health imbalances
[15:12] Speaker 3: later in life of all kinds. So when, you know,
[15:15] Speaker 3: that research came out, I'll just give you a little
[15:17] Speaker 3: gem here, Dr.
[15:18] Speaker 1: Adam.
[15:19] Speaker 3: When that research came out some years ago, my colleagues
[15:22] Speaker 3: and I kind of looked at each other and went, well, duh,
[15:25] Speaker 3: you know, it's like we've been seeing this forever. And
[15:28] Speaker 3: it's really wonderful to see science catch, this is going
[15:31] Speaker 3: to sound a little facetious, but science kind of catch
[15:34] Speaker 3: up with the intuitive perspective. Yeah.
[15:37] Speaker 1: Yeah. So I talk often on the show about cognitive
[15:42] Speaker 1: behavioral therapy and, you know, the benefits to that, you know, basically,
[15:49] Speaker 1: you know, talking through some of these issues. So how
[15:52] Speaker 1: would you say that these compare or contrast?
[15:58] Speaker 3: Yeah. What's really interesting about medical intuition is that it's
[16:01] Speaker 3: supportive of any and every healthcare field and modality and method.
[16:07] Speaker 3: It's not something separate from that. It's something you use
[16:11] Speaker 3: as a foundational skill set to work with patients. So
[16:14] Speaker 3: in my programs, this really speaks it. I teach medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists,
[16:23] Speaker 3: from every walk, including massage therapists who work on somebody's
[16:28] Speaker 3: body and get all these intuitive hits.
[16:30] Speaker 1: They're almost like psychologists in the room themselves. They got
[16:34] Speaker 1: an hour with somebody.
[16:37] Speaker 3: And a lot of Chinese medicine, acupuncturists and things like that,
[16:40] Speaker 3: which also work the energy of the body. So it
[16:43] Speaker 3: really spans every sector of healthcare. And I'm delighted with
[16:48] Speaker 3: that because that's what it's meant to do. It's meant
[16:50] Speaker 3: to support your practice for your patients. And for me,
[16:55] Speaker 3: my clients, right?
[16:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. So you mentioned the word And I think
[17:03] Speaker 1: that's probably the word that comes up most often when
[17:07] Speaker 1: we're talking about this topic. So for some listeners, that
[17:12] Speaker 1: word might be a doorway. For others, it might be
[17:15] Speaker 1: a sign of caution. So how do you talk about
[17:19] Speaker 1: it in a way that makes sense to somebody that's
[17:22] Speaker 1: maybe the science-minded person? How do we bridge that gap?
[17:27] Speaker 3: You know, I would say go to PubMed and look
[17:29] Speaker 3: up biofields. Because believe it or not, there's many, many
[17:35] Speaker 3: years of wonderful research on the nature of the quote biofield.
[17:41] Speaker 3: And of course, in Chinese medicine, those are the meridian system.
[17:45] Speaker 3: There's a lot of research there as well. And, you know,
[17:49] Speaker 3: this is not unusual to human nature. We kind of
[17:52] Speaker 3: understand it without understanding it, you know, without putting a
[17:55] Speaker 3: label on it. We get a sense, we get a
[17:58] Speaker 3: gut feeling, we get a hunch. You mentioned that in
[18:00] Speaker 3: the beginning and you're right on. Some of us get
[18:04] Speaker 3: little hits, you could say, of just knowing this, right?
[18:07] Speaker 3: And there's all kinds of ways to talk about that. But,
[18:10] Speaker 3: you know, you do have to, to some degree, allow
[18:15] Speaker 3: that to occur in your experience for it to grow.
[18:19] Speaker 3: Intuition is hardwired into human beings. It just is. We're
[18:23] Speaker 3: born with it. Every human has it. The question is,
[18:26] Speaker 3: do you want to develop it for a reason, right,
[18:30] Speaker 3: for a purpose? And what I teach is a method
[18:34] Speaker 3: that develops it for healthcare providers so that they can
[18:37] Speaker 3: work with their patients and really get to the root
[18:39] Speaker 3: causes quickly, as a matter of fact, and go from
[18:43] Speaker 3: there and let it inform their treatment plans, their testing options,
[18:50] Speaker 3: their differential diagnoses, et cetera. You know, I don't diagnose.
[18:53] Speaker 3: Medical intuitives are not allowed to. We're not you know,
[18:56] Speaker 3: unless we have that license. But the skill set is
[19:00] Speaker 3: such that you can really gain just a lot of
[19:04] Speaker 3: information on whatever's happening for your patient.
[19:09] Speaker 1: Well, let me add this. I've seen firsthand how much
[19:13] Speaker 1: healing can start with a patient when they feel heard,
[19:18] Speaker 1: So the research on that patient practitioner relationship, it's consistent.
[19:23] Speaker 1: People who feel listened to, they tend to follow their
[19:27] Speaker 1: care plans more closely, and then they tend to be
[19:30] Speaker 1: more satisfied overall. And I think this is a good
[19:33] Speaker 1: place to start with that, the medical intuition of this
[19:37] Speaker 1: and the mechanism behind it to see that whole person.
[19:41] Speaker 1: So I want to talk a little bit more on
[19:44] Speaker 1: that and what led you to develop your medical intuitive programs.
[19:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, you said it, you nailed it, Dr. Adam. It's
[19:54] Speaker 3: not just being heard by, you know, acknowledging somebody because
[19:57] Speaker 3: that's wonderful too, especially if it's your doctor. Typically we
[20:00] Speaker 3: get what, seven to 15 minutes with our providers, like,
[20:05] Speaker 3: you know, and you're right about that. It's called narrative medicine.
[20:08] Speaker 3: I think they call it out there.
[20:09] Speaker 4: In the world.
[20:10] Speaker 3: It is wonderful, but it's not the full story when
[20:12] Speaker 3: it comes to medical intuition. Medical intuition is a standalone,
[20:17] Speaker 3: it can be, a standalone process of observing the physical
[20:23] Speaker 3: body and the biofield. And I can give you a
[20:25] Speaker 3: case study about this that can make some sense. about that.
[20:29] Speaker 3: It sounds very woo-woo and frankly it is a very
[20:32] Speaker 3: advanced version of intuition. So what's interesting about medical intuition
[20:37] Speaker 3: is that a medical intuitive, we can do this work remotely,
[20:41] Speaker 3: we don't need to be with the patient and we
[20:42] Speaker 3: certainly don't need to have an interaction with the patient.
[20:45] Speaker 3: All the research shows that. But what I do is
[20:48] Speaker 3: I look at not only their physiology, their energy field,
[20:51] Speaker 3: but also their life history. So when I look at
[20:55] Speaker 3: life history, and I see something that was potentially a
[20:59] Speaker 3: root cause for a client's imbalance, I'll let them know
[21:02] Speaker 3: what I see. Now, these are people I don't know.
[21:03] Speaker 3: I don't know their lives. They've never told me about it.
[21:07] Speaker 3: But being heard, because that's what you brought up, is
[21:10] Speaker 3: really fascinating in the medical intuitive paradigm because we're seeing
[21:15] Speaker 3: things or explaining things that we would have no prior
[21:20] Speaker 3: knowledge of. That is, if you want to feel heard,
[21:23] Speaker 3: that's a great way to feel heard. It's very powerful
[21:26] Speaker 3: for people.
[21:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. And so let's go ahead and take
[21:29] Speaker 1: a pause there because we're about to get into that
[21:33] Speaker 1: research and some case studies. So we'll be right back
[21:37] Speaker 1: with more from Wendy Coulter. This is Dr. Adam Brockman,
[21:41] Speaker 1: and you're listening to Health Talk America. And you are
[22:20] Speaker 1: back with Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman. My
[22:23] Speaker 1: guest this hour is Wendy Coulter, the president of the
[22:27] Speaker 1: National Organization for Medical Intuition. And if you want to
[22:31] Speaker 1: join the conversation, our toll-free hotline is 800-606-8822 for your
[22:38] Speaker 1: health questions and comments. Our website is healthtalkamerica.com, and you
[22:43] Speaker 1: can also watch the follow-up video on our YouTube channel
[22:46] Speaker 1: or follow along by searching Health Talk America or myself, Dr.
[22:50] Speaker 1: Adam Brockman, on social media. So, Wendy, before the break,
[22:53] Speaker 1: we talked about what medical intuition is and how you
[22:58] Speaker 1: came to this work. And I want to expand on
[23:01] Speaker 1: that because I think you have a great story that
[23:04] Speaker 1: you were mentioning at break. So let's go ahead and
[23:07] Speaker 1: expand on that, please.
[23:09] Speaker 3: So people do ask me how I develop these gifts
[23:13] Speaker 3: or whatever you want to call them. I used to
[23:17] Speaker 3: do a lot of energy healing work. That's where I
[23:19] Speaker 3: began studying energy work, Reiki and things like that. And
[23:23] Speaker 3: I would have my clients come in and I would
[23:25] Speaker 3: notice that sometimes they would be able to release a
[23:28] Speaker 3: lot of stuff in their physical body and energy field.
[23:31] Speaker 3: And sometimes they wouldn't. And I was curious to know
[23:34] Speaker 3: why people were not healing. That was sort of like
[23:37] Speaker 3: a real question for me. As I did that work,
[23:41] Speaker 3: like many, many folks who work with the body and
[23:43] Speaker 3: with the energy field, I was getting a lot of
[23:46] Speaker 3: what we call hits, just flashes of insight and information
[23:49] Speaker 3: that you talked about at the beginning. I was getting
[23:54] Speaker 3: so many of them and they were so powerful. I mean,
[23:58] Speaker 3: I could literally see into someone's body, literally, intuitively see
[24:02] Speaker 3: like their rib cage and their heart. And it was
[24:05] Speaker 3: like this kind of information is coming through. And I
[24:08] Speaker 3: will never forget, I asked a client, can I just
[24:10] Speaker 3: sit down for a minute, not work on you, just
[24:12] Speaker 3: sit down and just see what I can see and
[24:15] Speaker 3: tell you what I see? And they said, sure.
[24:17] Speaker 1: Sure.
[24:17] Speaker 3: I think that went on for, you know, hour and
[24:19] Speaker 3: a half or something. It went on for quite a while.
[24:22] Speaker 3: And then I stopped and they were like looking at
[24:24] Speaker 3: me with their jaw dropped. How did you know all that?
[24:26] Speaker 3: And I said, I don't know. I just discerned it somehow.
[24:30] Speaker 3: I worked on them and they were letting go of
[24:33] Speaker 3: things that 10 years worth of, you know, holding on
[24:37] Speaker 3: to something was starting to change, right? And release. And
[24:41] Speaker 3: I started doing that before I did my healing method.
[24:45] Speaker 3: That really taught me a lot. Because the level of
[24:49] Speaker 3: help or support or whatever, the clients came back to
[24:52] Speaker 3: me and said, oh my gosh, that session was incredible.
[24:54] Speaker 3: What you told me made a huge difference. And then
[24:57] Speaker 3: they started telling their healthcare providers, who started calling me,
[25:01] Speaker 3: to look at their patients and see what I could discern.
[25:04] Speaker 3: And again, I didn't know what I was doing. I
[25:08] Speaker 3: read Carolyn Mace's book, Anatomy of the Spirit, at one point.
[25:10] Speaker 3: I said, oh, I guess that's what I'm doing. So...
[25:15] Speaker 3: What I realized was that over the years that this
[25:18] Speaker 3: was such an important skill in healthcare for patients to
[25:22] Speaker 3: start to make changes and receive the information that can
[25:26] Speaker 3: really help them heal from all sectors, not just conventional medicine,
[25:32] Speaker 3: that I realized I really wanted to teach this to
[25:35] Speaker 3: healthcare providers because it looked like and felt like, and
[25:39] Speaker 3: to be honest, is a missing piece in healthcare. the emotional, mental, spiritual,
[25:46] Speaker 3: plus physical. That's really important. You have to start there.
[25:49] Speaker 3: And I say to folks, if you're a medical intuitive,
[25:52] Speaker 3: you have to read the body. You have to see
[25:53] Speaker 3: what's going on. So there's that origin story for me.
[25:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great. And I think that's a great place
[26:03] Speaker 1: to start the conversation that you were also involved in
[26:06] Speaker 1: a study on medical intuition with the University of California,
[26:10] Speaker 1: San Diego that showed showed strong results. So tell us
[26:14] Speaker 1: about that as well. Yeah, actually, there's been a couple
[26:17] Speaker 1: of studies. I'll talk about the new one as well.
[26:20] Speaker 3: That was done in 2020, published in 2020. And I
[26:24] Speaker 3: worked with a colleague at University of California, San Diego.
[26:28] Speaker 3: We were looking to see if the graduates of my program,
[26:31] Speaker 3: to be very blunt about it, could actually do what,
[26:35] Speaker 3: you know, their clients were saying they were doing in
[26:38] Speaker 3: a research environment, right? You know, much more finely controlled.
[26:44] Speaker 3: So what we did was we had five of my grads,
[26:48] Speaker 3: we had 67 participants from the community. They were all self-selected,
[26:53] Speaker 3: but we did have some folks from UCSD Medical Center,
[26:57] Speaker 3: some patients there that joined us. And it was all very,
[27:02] Speaker 3: it was blinded, meaning the medical intuitives had no access
[27:05] Speaker 3: to their health records. These were people we never met before.
[27:08] Speaker 3: And And they also had their eyes closed, so there
[27:12] Speaker 3: was no visual cues. That's important, because that's a bit
[27:16] Speaker 3: of a misunderstanding about intuition, that we're getting body language
[27:19] Speaker 3: or that kind of thing. That's not really true or
[27:23] Speaker 3: pure intuition. So the results of the study were delightful,
[27:27] Speaker 3: to be honest. We didn't expect to get such good results.
[27:31] Speaker 3: The participants did a Likert scale survey after, and they
[27:38] Speaker 3: rated the medical intuitives as 94% accurate in the location
[27:43] Speaker 3: and evaluation of their health, primary health issue. Now, again,
[27:47] Speaker 3: we call these cold reads, you know, it's like we
[27:49] Speaker 3: don't know nothing. That was a lovely stat to get.
[27:53] Speaker 3: They also said the medical intuitives were able to explain
[27:59] Speaker 3: life history, you know, stories about their life, information about
[28:03] Speaker 3: their life that related to their health issues. We got
[28:05] Speaker 3: 98% accuracy there. We also had, by the way, 100%
[28:09] Speaker 3: accuracy in secondary health issues. That's what they said. When
[28:14] Speaker 3: it came to their diagnoses that they'd received from their doctors,
[28:19] Speaker 3: which we didn't know anything about, of course, 93% consistency
[28:25] Speaker 3: in the descriptions with their known diagnoses. Now, that last
[28:30] Speaker 3: piece of data made all the doctor's ears perk up.
[28:34] Speaker 3: They said, well, how did you do that? And it
[28:37] Speaker 3: was a wonderful result. That's on PubMed, and you can
[28:41] Speaker 3: find it on my website as well. And that kind
[28:45] Speaker 3: of kick-started things. And I'll tell you one thing, Dr. Adam.
[28:47] Speaker 3: I'm very proud of that study because there's very, very
[28:50] Speaker 3: little research on medical intuition out there, and most of
[28:54] Speaker 3: it is inconclusive. There's some very good studies, mostly very small.
[28:58] Speaker 3: And that was the first in, I would say, about
[29:01] Speaker 3: 20 years that showed the effectiveness of medical intuitions.
[29:05] Speaker 1: Wow. So you're blazing a trail here. So I want
[29:09] Speaker 1: to explain this for somebody that's listening and they say, oh,
[29:15] Speaker 1: is this a psychic reading? Explain what the difference between
[29:19] Speaker 1: medical intuition is and say your psychic reading that you
[29:23] Speaker 1: might have for mental. entertainment purposes?
[29:27] Speaker 3: It's a really good question. You know, in essence, there's
[29:31] Speaker 3: not a lot of difference between, say, remote viewing or
[29:34] Speaker 3: psychic readings or all that. But the intention of the
[29:36] Speaker 3: session is really the difference. What I do, and I
[29:39] Speaker 3: can give you a case study about this, is I
[29:41] Speaker 3: look at the physiology of the body, the anatomy, how
[29:45] Speaker 3: things are working, how they're not working. That is medical
[29:49] Speaker 3: intuition in a nutshell. And that's the difference. And so
[29:53] Speaker 3: my intention is to see what the body is asking for. That's, again,
[29:58] Speaker 3: really important. The body really can talk. It can speak.
[30:02] Speaker 3: So I'm going to talk to your liver and say, hey, liver,
[30:04] Speaker 3: what's going on and what do you need? It'll show
[30:07] Speaker 3: me all kinds of things. And that, I would say,
[30:10] Speaker 3: is the difference. Also, there's ethical considerations here that may
[30:14] Speaker 3: not be as apparent in other forms of intuitive use.
[30:18] Speaker 3: Of course, you know, if we do not diagnose, we
[30:21] Speaker 3: don't prognose and we don't prescribe, you know, that's up
[30:24] Speaker 3: to their healthcare practitioners. So there's a level of ethics
[30:28] Speaker 3: we really do have to follow as medical intuitives.
[30:31] Speaker 1: So for everyone to stay curious, but with those safeguards.
[30:35] Speaker 1: And so I'll take that. So we'll continue this conversation
[30:38] Speaker 1: after the short break with the story behind Wendy's book
[30:42] Speaker 1: and a look at the organization that she leads. I
[30:46] Speaker 1: want you to stay with us. This is Health Talk America.
[31:04] Speaker 4: If you're a big sports fan like me, sometimes the
[31:07] Speaker 4: best part about watching a football game are the pre-
[31:09] Speaker 4: and post-game shows. Well, it's the same for probiotics. The
[31:12] Speaker 4: most important part of probiotics are the prebiotics and postbiotics
[31:16] Speaker 4: that come along. Not all probiotics have this superior combination.
[31:19] Speaker 4: That's why I only buy Dr. O'Hara's probiotics. You see,
[31:23] Speaker 4: prebiotics feed the probiotic colonies in your intestines, and postbiotics
[31:27] Speaker 4: are the organic nutrients produced by Dr. O'Hara's three-year fermentation
[31:31] Speaker 4: process that become the foundation for long-term colonization of the
[31:35] Speaker 4: good bacteria in your body.
[31:37] Speaker 1: This is so important.
[31:38] Speaker 4: No other probiotic formula has this. As I get older,
[31:41] Speaker 4: I want to protect my health the best I can
[31:43] Speaker 4: and use only the best supplements that are available. So
[31:46] Speaker 4: score a touchdown for your health.
[31:48] Speaker 1: Get Dr.
[31:48] Speaker 4: O'Hara's probiotics today.
[31:50] Speaker 1: Touchdown!
[31:53] Speaker 4: Dr.
[31:53] Speaker 1: O'Hara's probiotics. Available at Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, and
[31:57] Speaker 1: other natural health retailers nationwide. Because I'm happy.
[32:01] Speaker 4: Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.
[32:05] Speaker 2: Because I'm happy.
[32:07] Speaker 3: Clap along if you feel like that's what you want.
[32:11] Speaker 1: Welcome back to Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman
[32:14] Speaker 1: speaking today with Wendy Coulter. And if you have a question,
[32:19] Speaker 1: the toll-free line is 800-606-8822. You can catch up with
[32:24] Speaker 1: the show at healthtalkamerica.com and on social media by searching
[32:29] Speaker 1: for Health Talk America or myself, Dr. Adam Brockman. So Wendy,
[32:33] Speaker 1: we've covered the definition and a little bit of the research.
[32:37] Speaker 1: So let's go ahead and talk about your book. Why
[32:41] Speaker 1: did you write your book? And that's the book titled
[32:44] Speaker 1: Essentials of Medical Intuition, A Visionary Path to Wellness.
[32:49] Speaker 3: Well, I wrote my book for a number of reasons.
[32:52] Speaker 3: There are a number of books out there on medical intuition.
[32:55] Speaker 3: Most of them come from the personal perspective of the intuitive,
[32:58] Speaker 3: which is very varied in across the board in terms
[33:02] Speaker 3: of how people work, I wanted to write more of
[33:05] Speaker 3: a research book. And there's a lot of studies and
[33:09] Speaker 3: a lot of data in the book, in the bibliography,
[33:12] Speaker 3: of course. But I wanted to talk about the history
[33:15] Speaker 3: of it, which goes back to the, in modern history,
[33:18] Speaker 3: it goes back to the 1700s, 1800s through modern times.
[33:23] Speaker 3: And I wanted to talk about the uses of it
[33:26] Speaker 3: in healthcare specifically. So that's what I did. And I'm
[33:30] Speaker 3: very pleased to say that it's in the bookstores of
[33:33] Speaker 3: many universities at this point and hope to develop a
[33:37] Speaker 3: university course about this as well.
[33:40] Speaker 1: Great, great. So for someone that's picking up the book
[33:44] Speaker 1: for the first time. So is it best suited for
[33:47] Speaker 1: for somebody at the university setting or is it can
[33:50] Speaker 1: a skeptic read it, a curious beginner or is it
[33:53] Speaker 1: mainly for for practitioners?
[33:55] Speaker 3: It's for everybody. And I made sure that it was
[33:58] Speaker 3: for everybody. I didn't want to write, you know, a
[34:00] Speaker 3: pure textbook, but I'm delighted that it's being used in
[34:03] Speaker 3: that way. No, it's a really fun read, frankly, if
[34:06] Speaker 3: I can say that. There's a lot of case studies
[34:08] Speaker 3: in there. There's a lot of information about intuition, a
[34:12] Speaker 3: lot of information about how you can develop your intuition
[34:15] Speaker 3: as well, which is something that everybody wants and asks for.
[34:18] Speaker 3: And so it's got a lot.
[34:21] Speaker 1: Great, great. Well, I got to ask, where can people
[34:25] Speaker 1: find your book?
[34:26] Speaker 3: Barnes & Noble, Amazon, pretty much wherever books are sold,
[34:31] Speaker 3: it's being sold. There's also a page on my website
[34:33] Speaker 3: where you can go and look for it.
[34:35] Speaker 1: Okay. And your website?
[34:37] Speaker 3: Is thepracticalpath.com.
[34:39] Speaker 1: Okay. So let's go ahead and share. I know you
[34:44] Speaker 1: got lots of case studies out there. Can you share
[34:48] Speaker 1: a great case study or even some of the research
[34:51] Speaker 1: that you've been doing?
[34:54] Speaker 3: Let me talk first about the research. The case studies
[34:57] Speaker 3: will probably take a little longer than our segment time here.
[35:01] Speaker 3: The other piece of research that I did want to
[35:02] Speaker 3: bring forward just got published in June of this year, 2026.
[35:06] Speaker 3: And it was done in collaboration. We did this with
[35:10] Speaker 3: the Institute of Noetic Sciences. We had six doctors, 40
[35:15] Speaker 3: of their individual patients that had chronic issues that were
[35:19] Speaker 3: not resolving, and five medical intuitives. And I just want
[35:23] Speaker 3: to say this is the first one we've done with
[35:25] Speaker 3: a group of doctors for study. All of the doctors
[35:29] Speaker 3: said that the medical intuitives positively influenced their diagnostic practice,
[35:35] Speaker 3: their own practice, that what they heard was useful to
[35:39] Speaker 3: them in supporting and helping their patient, which was phenomenal.
[35:43] Speaker 3: They all said that they would continue to work with
[35:45] Speaker 3: medical intuitives and that they would recommend them to their colleagues.
[35:49] Speaker 3: that their accuracy levels were very high. So the results
[35:53] Speaker 3: just blew us out of the water and we were
[35:55] Speaker 3: delighted to see that. And we hope that that's a
[35:57] Speaker 3: way through the door for us, for the medical community
[36:03] Speaker 3: to understand the value of medical intuition.
[36:05] Speaker 1: So if someone's listening and they're saying, hey, this is
[36:10] Speaker 1: something I could really benefit from, how would they find
[36:15] Speaker 1: someone that practices medical intuition?
[36:18] Speaker 3: Well, there's two ways that I can recommend. One is
[36:20] Speaker 3: the graduates of my program. Again, they come from all
[36:23] Speaker 3: sectors of healthcare. If you come to the website, thepracticalpath.com,
[36:27] Speaker 3: Look at the blog and many of them, not all
[36:29] Speaker 3: of them, but many of them have individual pages. The
[36:33] Speaker 3: other place to go is the National Organization for Medical Intuition.
[36:38] Speaker 3: That's nomemedicalintuition.org. We have a find a practitioner section on
[36:44] Speaker 3: the website, which gets a lot of traffic, by the way.
[36:47] Speaker 3: A lot of people come through there. And again, these
[36:49] Speaker 3: are not all my students or my graduates, but many,
[36:52] Speaker 3: many medical intuitives from all over the world. and you
[36:55] Speaker 3: can find someone to work with there, and they all
[36:57] Speaker 3: have their own unique flavor and way they work.
[37:01] Speaker 1: Great, great. So go ahead and explain what the National
[37:05] Speaker 1: Organization for Medical Intuition is and what maybe some of
[37:09] Speaker 1: the goals might be for that, obviously to help to
[37:12] Speaker 1: spread the word and to find practitioners, but explain a
[37:16] Speaker 1: little bit more what it is.
[37:18] Speaker 3: Sure. The National Organization for Medical Intuition was formed 2021,
[37:23] Speaker 3: a group of my colleagues and I got together and said,
[37:26] Speaker 3: you know, we're all seem to practice the same way
[37:29] Speaker 3: in that, you know, we work with doctors very under
[37:32] Speaker 3: the radar. Is there any way that we can have
[37:36] Speaker 3: medical intuition recognized and understood as a valuable support to medicine?
[37:41] Speaker 3: Because we all were doing that work. The very first
[37:45] Speaker 3: research that we did as an organization, we're nonprofit, by
[37:48] Speaker 3: the way, was to query all of the self-identified medical
[37:53] Speaker 3: intuitives out there to find out how they work. What
[37:56] Speaker 3: we found was 82% of those we surveyed said that
[38:00] Speaker 3: they also work directly with licensed healthcare providers with their
[38:05] Speaker 3: medical intuition services, which we were blown away by. And
[38:08] Speaker 3: of course, many, many more of them receive referrals the
[38:10] Speaker 3: way I did for many years and do. The national
[38:13] Speaker 3: organization has research, white papers, reports, articles, blogs, all kinds
[38:21] Speaker 3: of wonderful things and resources for the public and for
[38:24] Speaker 3: health care providers to look at and find their practitioners,
[38:28] Speaker 3: but also learn more about what the skill set is.
[38:32] Speaker 1: And what was that website again?
[38:35] Speaker 3: Nomi, N-O-M-I, medicalintuition.org.
[38:41] Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you. We'll be right back with Wendy Coulter,
[38:45] Speaker 1: and we're going to take a look at the future.
[38:47] Speaker 1: This is Health Talk America. Stay with us. Dr. Adam
[39:00] Speaker 1: Brockman here. If you've ever wished that medicine focused on
[39:04] Speaker 1: restoring health instead of managing disease, there's a place just

[40:19] Speaker 1: we're back with the final moments of this hour of
[40:22] Speaker 1: Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman, and I've been
[40:25] Speaker 1: talking with Wendy Coulter, a certified medical intuitive practitioner and
[40:30] Speaker 1: the president of the National Organization for Medical Intuition. So, Wendy,
[40:36] Speaker 1: I want to thank you for a great conversation. It
[40:39] Speaker 1: was very open and very honest. We covered a lot.
[40:42] Speaker 1: We talked about what medical intuition is, how it might
[40:47] Speaker 1: serve patients and practitioners alike. You gave some research, your book,
[40:52] Speaker 1: the organization you lead, and I appreciate that you welcome
[40:56] Speaker 1: some of the tough questions about the science aspect for it. So, So, Wendy,
[41:01] Speaker 1: today I got one last question for you, and I
[41:04] Speaker 1: think it's a big one. What do you see as
[41:07] Speaker 1: the future of medical intuition?
[41:10] Speaker 3: Well, you know, this is me on my soapbox now, Dr. Adam.
[41:13] Speaker 3: I would like to see medical intuitives, and so does
[41:16] Speaker 3: the national organization. Our goal is to integrate medical intuitives
[41:20] Speaker 3: into mainstream health care openly and as the use that
[41:25] Speaker 3: we can bring. So I see medical intuitives in the hospital,
[41:29] Speaker 3: in the ER. in clinics as adjuncts and support. I
[41:35] Speaker 3: see it being taught at universities and medical centers. And,
[41:40] Speaker 3: you know, I see it being that missing piece, so
[41:44] Speaker 3: to speak, in healthcare that can help people heal, that
[41:48] Speaker 3: can help doctors work with their patients and physicians work
[41:52] Speaker 3: with their patients. That's what I see. It's a pretty
[41:55] Speaker 3: big picture, I'll be honest with you, right? But it
[41:58] Speaker 3: is really... Once people get to understand what it does
[42:01] Speaker 3: and how it can help, you really kind of don't
[42:05] Speaker 3: want to live without it. You want it in your life.
[42:08] Speaker 1: And you have some great things on the horizon. And
[42:12] Speaker 1: even just in a few months, can you elaborate on
[42:15] Speaker 1: that briefly?
[42:17] Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely. My website, if you go to the website,
[42:21] Speaker 3: you can see all the programs that are available for
[42:23] Speaker 3: healthcare practitioners. And we are launching a self-study program for
[42:27] Speaker 3: everyone to learn how to work with your own body-mind experience, right?
[42:33] Speaker 3: Medical Intuition for Healing and Self-Care, where I'll walk you
[42:37] Speaker 3: step-by-step through exercises where you can develop your intuition to
[42:41] Speaker 3: learn how to connect with your own body and ask
[42:44] Speaker 3: it what it wants. people love that and it really works.
[42:48] Speaker 1: Great. And your website one more time?
[42:50] Speaker 3: Thepracticalpath.com.
[42:52] Speaker 1: All right, great. Thepracticalpath.com. So we got a future built
[42:58] Speaker 1: on research standards and collaboration. That's one I think many
[43:04] Speaker 1: of us could get behind and support. So Wendy, thank
