Dr. Adam Brockman opens the hour with a story that reframes prevention as one of the smartest investments you'll ever make— then dives straight into your questions. A listener wonders if a small hernia is safe to live with, or a ticking time bomb. Another shares the "most horrific pain" of his life — a kidney stone — and wants to know how to make sure it never happens again. And a caller's forgotten bottle of Vitamin B6 sparks a bigger conversation about what the B vitamins actually do for your body. Real questions, real answers, and the small daily habits that add up to a healthier — and wealthier — you.

[3:22] Speaker 2: can call us anytime at eight hundred six zero six
[3:25] Speaker 2: eight eight two to two. Today, I want to start
[3:29] Speaker 2: by sharing some recent comments that I found interesting. By
[3:33] Speaker 2: now you may have seen the headlines doctor medmand Oz,
[3:37] Speaker 2: who now sits at the helm of the Centers for
[3:40] Speaker 2: Medicare and Medicaid Services. He made a rather bold claim recently.
[3:46] Speaker 2: He said in essence that if Americans simply got healthier,
[3:51] Speaker 2: the ripple effect on our economy could be staggering. We're
[3:55] Speaker 2: talking about potentially adding a trillion dollars, that's with a
[4:00] Speaker 2: t trillion to the nation's economic output. Now, before you
[4:06] Speaker 2: assume that this is some kind of political talking point.
[4:10] Speaker 2: Let's set that aside entirely, because the underlying health principle
[4:15] Speaker 2: is one we've been shouting from the rooftops for years
[4:18] Speaker 2: and has nothing to do with party lines. It has
[4:21] Speaker 2: everything to do with how we as a country treat prevention.
[4:29] Speaker 2: So here's the core of what doctor Oz pointed out,
[4:32] Speaker 2: and it's worth sitting with for just a moment. He said,
[4:36] Speaker 2: the most expensive kind of healthcare isn't the kind of
[4:40] Speaker 2: care that costs the most upfront. It's poor quality care.
[4:45] Speaker 2: If it's that, think about that. A misdiagnosis, a skip screening,
[4:50] Speaker 2: a chronic condition that goes unmanaged until it becomes a
[4:54] Speaker 2: health crisis. That's not just a personal tragedy at that point,
[5:00] Speaker 2: it's an economic one. And it's multiplied across millions of
[5:04] Speaker 2: households here in the United States. When we let small
[5:10] Speaker 2: manageable issues snowball into complications, we pay for it twice,
[5:15] Speaker 2: once in dollars and once in years of life and vitality.
[5:21] Speaker 2: We didn't have to lose. And that's the most important thing,
[5:24] Speaker 2: your health's that is more important than anything that you
[5:29] Speaker 2: can buy with dollars. And here's here's the number that
[5:34] Speaker 2: really got my attention. Fewer than half of medicare beneficiaries,
[5:40] Speaker 2: the folks who are entitled to completely free annual wellness visits,
[5:45] Speaker 2: they actually use it. We're talking about half, and we're
[5:48] Speaker 2: talking about free visits they're paid for. They're sitting right
[5:53] Speaker 2: there waiting to be claimed in more than half of
[5:57] Speaker 2: eligible Americans just go Now, I understand why life gets busy.
[6:06] Speaker 2: The waiting room feels like a chore. Maybe the last
[6:10] Speaker 2: visit didn't feel like it accomplished much. But friends, that
[6:16] Speaker 2: one visit a year is often the single the opportunity,
[6:21] Speaker 2: the earliest opportunity we have to catch something quietly that's
[6:25] Speaker 2: brewing in our bodies. You know, the blood pressure that's
[6:29] Speaker 2: creeping up, the blood sugar that's drifting into pre diabetic territory,
[6:35] Speaker 2: or a cholesterol panel that's starting to tell more of
[6:38] Speaker 2: a story. If you catch it early and it's a
[6:42] Speaker 2: conversation and a lifestyle tweak. But if you miss it
[6:47] Speaker 2: for five years, then it becomes a cardiac event or
[6:51] Speaker 2: a hospital stay. And this is where the economics in
[6:56] Speaker 2: the biology start to shake hands. A healthy your population
[7:01] Speaker 2: isn't just a nicer to have a population that's a
[7:06] Speaker 2: population that works longer, it contributes longer, and it spends
[7:12] Speaker 2: less on late stage disease management, and frankly enjoys more
[7:17] Speaker 2: years of feeling good. That's what we all want, right,
[7:22] Speaker 2: So doctor Oz his argument is essentially this health isn't
[7:28] Speaker 2: a cost center, and it shouldn't be. It's an investment.
[7:32] Speaker 2: And like any investment, the earlier that you put your
[7:36] Speaker 2: energy into it, the bigger the compounding return becomes. So
[7:41] Speaker 2: here's my take. I love this conversation because it validates
[7:46] Speaker 2: something we talk about on this show constantly, that natural,
[7:51] Speaker 2: proactive preventative care isn't some fringe idea. It's not alternative,
[7:59] Speaker 2: it's foundational. Whether it's showing up for that annual checkup,
[8:06] Speaker 2: it's moving your body daily, it's eating real food instead
[8:12] Speaker 2: of ultra process convenience, it's managing your stress before it
[8:17] Speaker 2: manages you. And it's simply getting enough sleep. Those aren't
[8:23] Speaker 2: your nice to haves. They are quite literally trillion dollar
[8:29] Speaker 2: habits when you add them up across an entire nation.
[8:34] Speaker 2: So I want to add one more layer to what
[8:36] Speaker 2: doctor Oz touched on the role of technology in AI
[8:41] Speaker 2: in healthcare delivery. We're entering this era, where predictive tools
[8:46] Speaker 2: can flag risk before symptoms even show up, where that
[8:51] Speaker 2: remote monitoring can catch a problem while you're still at home,
[8:55] Speaker 2: not in an emergency room. That's not imagining what's happening
[9:01] Speaker 2: a decade from now anymore. That's this year's toolkit. So
[9:05] Speaker 2: if you combine smarter technology with a public that actually
[9:10] Speaker 2: shows up for prevention, and you start to see how
[9:13] Speaker 2: a trillion dollars isn't that far fetched. It's just math,
[9:19] Speaker 2: and it's something that doctor Oz brought up. It's something
[9:21] Speaker 2: that we touch on. So here's my ask for you today,
[9:26] Speaker 2: and it's simple. If you have a wellness visit sitting
[9:29] Speaker 2: on your table, scheduled or not, go get it. If
[9:33] Speaker 2: you've been putting off that screening because you're too busy
[9:37] Speaker 2: or you feel fine, this is your nudge. Health isn't
[9:41] Speaker 2: just about avoiding illness. It's about buying yourself more good years,
[9:47] Speaker 2: more birthdays, more grandkids, recitals, more mornings where you wake
[9:53] Speaker 2: up and you actually feel like getting up and doing something.
[9:57] Speaker 2: That's the real return on the investment. Nobody puts on
[10:01] Speaker 2: a balance sheet, but we all feel it with our health. Okay,
[10:06] Speaker 2: so this hour, we've got your your calls coming up,
[10:09] Speaker 2: your emails, and health related questions and comments. But first,
[10:13] Speaker 2: let's take a quick break. When we come back, we're

[13:01] Speaker 2: the resources, the deeper dives on today's topic. They live
[13:06] Speaker 2: at Healthtalkamerica dot com. That's health talk America dot com.
[13:12] Speaker 2: And if you've got a question of your own that's
[13:14] Speaker 2: burning a hole in your pocket, I don't want you
[13:16] Speaker 2: to sit on it. I want you to call us
[13:18] Speaker 2: at eight hundred six zero six eight A two two.
[13:22] Speaker 2: That's eight hundred six zero six eight A two to two.
[13:25] Speaker 2: That line is open around the clock. And yes, we
[13:28] Speaker 2: do listen to every single voicemail that comes in or
[13:32] Speaker 2: voice question which brings us to today's caller. We've got
[13:37] Speaker 2: a question from Victoria in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Victoria, Hot Spring, Darkansas,
[13:49] Speaker 2: Love the show. I have a small hernia above my
[13:53] Speaker 2: right pubic bone.
[13:56] Speaker 3: Doesn't bother me.
[13:58] Speaker 1: I've cut back on my physical act too.
[14:00] Speaker 4: Just wanted to get some advice.
[14:02] Speaker 2: Can I continue to live with it if it doesn't
[14:04] Speaker 2: grow or bother me?
[14:06] Speaker 4: Or do I have to be concerned about it exploding
[14:08] Speaker 4: and killing me? Thank you so much, have a great day.
[14:14] Speaker 2: All right. That was Victoria in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and
[14:18] Speaker 2: thank you for your call. Here's roughly what she said.
[14:21] Speaker 2: She noticed a small hernia above her right pubic bone.
[14:25] Speaker 2: It doesn't hurt, it doesn't seem to be growing. She's
[14:29] Speaker 2: cut back on her physical activity out of caution. And
[14:34] Speaker 2: her real question is this, Can she just live with
[14:38] Speaker 2: it if it's not bothering her? Or does she need
[14:40] Speaker 2: to worry about it? Exploding and becoming life threatening. So
[14:46] Speaker 2: I love this question honestly because it lets us bust
[14:50] Speaker 2: a myth and also give some useful guidance along the way.
[14:54] Speaker 2: So let's start with the myth. Hernias don't explode. I
[14:59] Speaker 2: promise you there is no scenario where a hernia is
[15:03] Speaker 2: quietly sitting there and then suddenly detonates like a bomb.
[15:07] Speaker 2: That's just not how the anatomy works. But and this
[15:12] Speaker 2: is important, but that doesn't mean a hernia is something
[15:16] Speaker 2: that you should just quietly ignore for the rest of
[15:19] Speaker 2: your life. Either. There's a middle ground here, and that's
[15:23] Speaker 2: exactly where I want to spend our time for just
[15:26] Speaker 2: a second. First, let's talk about what's actually happening physically.
[15:33] Speaker 2: A hernia occurs when the internal tissue, often a portion
[15:38] Speaker 2: of intestine or fatty tissue, it pushes through a weak
[15:43] Speaker 2: spot in the surrounding muscle or the connective tissue wall
[15:47] Speaker 2: above the pubic bone. This is very commonly what is
[15:52] Speaker 2: called an inguinol hernia or sometimes a femoral hernia, and
[15:57] Speaker 2: that's depending on the exact location and structure that's involved.
[16:01] Speaker 2: These these are very common, and they're more common than
[16:04] Speaker 2: people realize. And yes, they do occur in women as
[16:08] Speaker 2: well as men. Even though that's a persistent myth in
[16:11] Speaker 2: itself that hernias are a guide problem, they're not. Now
[16:16] Speaker 2: to answer her specific question, can she simply live with
[16:22] Speaker 2: it if it's small, if it's stable and asymptomatic. In
[16:26] Speaker 2: many cases, yes, at least for a period of time
[16:30] Speaker 2: under medical supervision. This is actually a recognized clinical approach
[16:36] Speaker 2: that's called watchful waiting. If hernia isn't causing pain, it
[16:42] Speaker 2: isn't growing, it isn't showing signs of a problem. Some
[16:47] Speaker 2: physicians and patients they do choose to monitor it rather
[16:51] Speaker 2: than to rush into surgery, especially if there are other
[16:57] Speaker 2: health factors that may make surgery or it's less desirable
[17:02] Speaker 2: at that particular moment. But, and here's the piece I
[17:07] Speaker 2: really want every listener to hear clearly, watchful waiting is
[17:12] Speaker 2: not the same as ignore it forever and hope for
[17:16] Speaker 2: the best. This needs to be watched by a professional,
[17:21] Speaker 2: not just watched by you, get it formally evaluated by
[17:26] Speaker 2: a general surgeon, and not just noted and left alone.
[17:31] Speaker 2: Why Because the real danger with any hernia isn't the
[17:38] Speaker 2: spontaneous explosion. It's something that's called strangulation or incarceration. That's
[17:46] Speaker 2: when the protruding the tissue gets trapped in its blood
[17:50] Speaker 2: supply gets cut off. That is a true medical emergency,
[17:55] Speaker 2: and it can escalate very quickly. So here's what I
[17:59] Speaker 2: want you, Victoria and everyone listening with a similar question
[18:04] Speaker 2: to watch for. If you ever notice that in the
[18:08] Speaker 2: area becomes suddenly painful, if it's red, or it's warm
[18:13] Speaker 2: to touch, or it's rapidly swollen, that is no longer
[18:19] Speaker 2: a wait and see moment. That is a go to
[18:22] Speaker 2: the emergency room now moment. The same goes for nausea, vomiting,
[18:28] Speaker 2: or a bulge that suddenly won't push back in the
[18:30] Speaker 2: way it used to, or maybe have a fever, or
[18:34] Speaker 2: a general feeling that something has shifted from stable to wrong.
[18:39] Speaker 2: Those are the signs of a possible strangulation, and time
[18:44] Speaker 2: matters enormously in that scenario. So outside of those red
[18:49] Speaker 2: flags and those symptoms, here's my practical advice, Victoria. One,
[18:56] Speaker 2: get a baseline evaluation from a general surgeon. If you're
[19:00] Speaker 2: not ready to consider repair. You want a professional assessment
[19:05] Speaker 2: of the size that location in the risk, not just
[19:10] Speaker 2: your own observation in the mirror. Two as specifically whether
[19:16] Speaker 2: your hernia is considered reducible, meaning it can be gently
[19:21] Speaker 2: pushed back into place, versus non reducible, which carries more concern. Three,
[19:29] Speaker 2: don't be afraid to ask about elective repair timing the
[19:34] Speaker 2: many hernias they eventually do require surgical correction. In doing
[19:39] Speaker 2: it electively on your own schedule under controlled circumstances is
[19:46] Speaker 2: almost always preferable to doing it in an emergency situation.
[19:51] Speaker 2: And finally, regarding the activity that you're modifying that you
[19:56] Speaker 2: mentioned that to decreased physical activity, that's reasonable in the
[20:01] Speaker 2: short term, but chronic underactivity has its own cost. We're
[20:06] Speaker 2: talking about deconditioning, weight changes, cardiovascular decline. So this shouldn't
[20:12] Speaker 2: become a permanent lifestyle switch or shift without a surgeon's
[20:17] Speaker 2: blessing on what's actually safe for you to do. So
[20:22] Speaker 2: the big lesson here, and this is for all of us.
[20:25] Speaker 2: It's this. The body gives us information constantly, and our
[20:30] Speaker 2: job isn't to panic over every signal. But it's also
[20:34] Speaker 2: not to dismiss it just because it isn't painful today.
[20:38] Speaker 2: The thought it doesn't bother me is not the same
[20:42] Speaker 2: as it's not a medical issue. Get it looked at
[20:46] Speaker 2: you professional's eyes on it and let a doctor help
[20:51] Speaker 2: you decide the right path and wants you to watch it,
[20:55] Speaker 2: monitor it, or repair it based on your specific anatomy
[20:59] Speaker 2: and basically what your guidance is. So to Victoria in Arkansas,
[21:07] Speaker 2: thank you for trusting us with this question and having
[21:09] Speaker 2: the courage to ask something that so many people are
[21:12] Speaker 2: probably wondering right now and maybe not say it out loud.
[21:16] Speaker 2: That's exactly what this show is here for. And to
[21:20] Speaker 2: the rest of you listening, if you have a question
[21:23] Speaker 2: that's s rattling around, whether it's about something physical, something
[21:27] Speaker 2: in your blood work, or something you're just playing confused about,
[21:33] Speaker 2: I want you to call us eight hundred six zero
[21:35] Speaker 2: six eight eight two to two. Again, it's eight hundred
[21:38] Speaker 2: six zero six eight eight two to two. You can

[21:43] Speaker 2: answered right here on air. We've got more ground to

[23:40] Speaker 2: eight A two two. That's eight hundred six zero six
[23:42] Speaker 2: eight A two two. You can call day or night,
[23:45] Speaker 2: and everything from today's show lands afterward at Healthtalkamerica dot com. Okay,
[23:53] Speaker 2: before we get to the next question, I want to
[23:57] Speaker 2: take a few moments to tell you about something I've
[24:00] Speaker 2: come to appreciate, and that's a hair loss solution in
[24:04] Speaker 2: one easy to swallow pill. You know, I get asked
[24:09] Speaker 2: constantly as the host, as a physician, and as someone
[24:14] Speaker 2: who talks about health for a living. People ask doctor
[24:17] Speaker 2: Brockman what actually works, not what's trendy, not what's marketed,
[24:24] Speaker 2: but what actually works. And when it comes to hair thinning,
[24:28] Speaker 2: that's a question I used to dodge because so much
[24:32] Speaker 2: of that market is noise. So let me tell you
[24:36] Speaker 2: why lock Lab has earned a spot on this show.
[24:40] Speaker 2: And I don't say that lightly because it means when
[24:43] Speaker 2: I put my name behind something, I've actually looked under
[24:47] Speaker 2: the hood. First with lock Lab, what stood out to
[24:52] Speaker 2: me wasn't flashy packaging or bold promises. It was the
[24:57] Speaker 2: ingredient list. This isn't a miss street blend that's hiding
[25:01] Speaker 2: behind a proprietary label. Lock Lab is built around clinically
[25:07] Speaker 2: studied compounds that target hair thinning at the level that
[25:12] Speaker 2: ingredients should be designed to support that hair growth cycle
[25:17] Speaker 2: and strengthen the follicle environment and help to reduce the shedding.
[25:22] Speaker 2: So many of us start to notice as the years
[25:25] Speaker 2: go on. So here's here's the thing about hair loss.
[25:29] Speaker 2: It's rarely just cosmetic. It's tied to that follicle health,
[25:34] Speaker 2: the hormonal shifts of the body, the blood flow to
[25:38] Speaker 2: the scalp in nutrient delivery right where it matters. So
[25:43] Speaker 2: lock Labs formulation it approaches all of that rather than
[25:48] Speaker 2: just slapping a fragrance on a bottle and hoping that
[25:52] Speaker 2: it works. That's the difference between a product that's built
[25:55] Speaker 2: on a marketing team and a product that's built on
[25:58] Speaker 2: a formulation team. And look, I'll be I'll be straight
[26:02] Speaker 2: with you. Nothing works overnight hair cycles. They're slow. They
[26:08] Speaker 2: they're the biology is slow behind hair growth and anyone
[26:13] Speaker 2: who tells you otherwise is just selling you a fantasy.
[26:17] Speaker 2: But the consistency with the right ingredients, like that's in
[26:22] Speaker 2: lock Lab over the weeks and the months it actually
[26:25] Speaker 2: takes hair to respond. And this is where lock Lab
[26:30] Speaker 2: has has really impressed me. So here's here's what I
[26:33] Speaker 2: want you to do. I want you to head over
[26:35] Speaker 2: to our YouTube channel to search for the entire episode
[26:40] Speaker 2: I recently did with the Dimusio Brothers. Those are the
[26:43] Speaker 2: experts behind lock Lab where we got more in depth
[26:48] Speaker 2: breakdowns of how this actually works in the body. And
[26:51] Speaker 2: I want you to go check out locklab dot co.
[26:55] Speaker 2: That's l O C K l A B dot co
[27:00] Speaker 2: where you can order this affordable hair loss solution. So
[27:04] Speaker 2: if thinning hair has been quietly bothering you, lock Lab
[27:08] Speaker 2: is worth your attention, check them out again at locklab
[27:12] Speaker 2: dot co and tell them doctor Brockman sent you. All right,
[27:17] Speaker 2: let's get to today's further into the Day's conversation with
[27:21] Speaker 2: an email question because this is close to home for
[27:25] Speaker 2: a lot of you listening right now. This comes from
[27:28] Speaker 2: Kelly in Logan, Ohio. He says, I'm sixty three and
[27:33] Speaker 2: recently had to go to the er for a kidney stone.
[27:37] Speaker 2: A CT was done and they found only one stone.
[27:41] Speaker 2: I was sent home with tams loosen and told to
[27:44] Speaker 2: take ibuprofen for the pain. My question is how do
[27:48] Speaker 2: I prevent this from happening again. They gave me a
[27:51] Speaker 2: list of foods not to eat, which was about everything.
[27:56] Speaker 2: That was the most horrific pain I've ever sperienced in
[28:00] Speaker 2: my life, and I do not want to ever go
[28:02] Speaker 2: through that again. Please help, Okay, thank you again for
[28:06] Speaker 2: your question, Kelly. First, let me validate this completely. Kidney
[28:11] Speaker 2: stones are consistently described by patients, including plenty who have
[28:15] Speaker 2: given birth, as some of the most severe pain the
[28:19] Speaker 2: human body can produce. So if you've been listening and
[28:23] Speaker 2: this is you, you have my full sympathy. And if
[28:28] Speaker 2: you haven't, I experienced kidney stones, I want you to
[28:31] Speaker 2: counter blessings. Let's first talk about the medications. If amseloson
[28:38] Speaker 2: works by relaxing the smooth muscle and the uriner, which
[28:42] Speaker 2: helps a stone to pass more easily with less discomfort,
[28:46] Speaker 2: it's very standard, a very reasonable prescription for this, I'd
[28:50] Speaker 2: be profit helps with both pain and inflammation around the
[28:54] Speaker 2: passing stone, So nothing unusual there. Now to prevention, because
[28:58] Speaker 2: this is where the real value is. The single most
[29:01] Speaker 2: powerful thing anyone can do is to stay well hydrated.
[29:06] Speaker 2: We're talking about enough of water that your urine runs
[29:09] Speaker 2: light yellow to clear, which for most adults means somewhere
[29:13] Speaker 2: about two to three liters of water daily, so that's
[29:16] Speaker 2: roughly eight to twelve cups. I want you to keep
[29:20] Speaker 2: a water bottle with you constantly. Make it a physical habit,
[29:24] Speaker 2: not just a mental one. Second your diet, and here's
[29:28] Speaker 2: where I want to correct that overwhelming list that Kelly
[29:32] Speaker 2: was handed. If your stones are the common calcium oxalate type,
[29:38] Speaker 2: you don't need to eliminate high oxalate foods like spinach, beats, almonds,
[29:44] Speaker 2: or chocolate completely. You need to balance and use portion awareness,
[29:50] Speaker 2: and here's a detailed people they miss constantly. Don't cut
[29:54] Speaker 2: out calcium from your diet to compensate. Get calcium from
[29:58] Speaker 2: food like yogurt or cheese, and this actually helps because
[30:02] Speaker 2: it binds oxalate in the gut before it ever reaches
[30:05] Speaker 2: your kidneys. Third, I want you to dial back your
[30:09] Speaker 2: salt in your added sugars, both of which they increase
[30:14] Speaker 2: that stone risk. And always discuss supplementation with your physician
[30:20] Speaker 2: because magnesium and vitamin B six have some supporting evidence
[30:25] Speaker 2: for reducing risk in stone prone individuals and potassium citrate
[30:31] Speaker 2: or even natural citrate sources like lemon or lime in
[30:35] Speaker 2: your water can help keep your urine the chemistry there
[30:39] Speaker 2: less favorable for that kidney stone formation. In one caution,
[30:44] Speaker 2: if you're prone to stones, go easy on high dose
[30:48] Speaker 2: vitamin C since it can increase that oxalate production in
[30:52] Speaker 2: some people. So to sum it up for Kelly and
[30:56] Speaker 2: everyone else not in the lung right now, hydrate consistently
[31:02] Speaker 2: moderate rather than eliminate. Keep your calcium, the intake of
[31:08] Speaker 2: it at steady, and ease up on salt and sugar,
[31:13] Speaker 2: and have an honest conversation with doctor about targeted supplementation.
[31:17] Speaker 2: That combination is protective and it's a lot more manageable
[31:23] Speaker 2: than the list that seems to ban half the grocery store. Okay, well,
[31:28] Speaker 2: thanks again Kelly for your question, and folks, don't go anywhere.
[31:32] Speaker 2: We've got more on Health Talk America coming up right
[31:35] Speaker 2: after the short break. I'm doctor Adam Brockman. Our number

[32:11] Speaker 2: actually works. Here's what I tell my listeners. The science

[32:18] Speaker 2: it all in one daily pill. Lock Lab combines three

[32:26] Speaker 2: hormone that's literally killing your hair follicles, and it's also
[32:29] Speaker 2: got monoxidal. It increases oxygen and nutrients to the scalp
[32:33] Speaker 2: to stimulate real regrowth in biotin, the essential vitamin your
[32:37] Speaker 2: hair needs to grow thick and strong. The result, lock
[32:41] Speaker 2: Lab is ninety seven percent effective at stopping hair loss
[32:45] Speaker 2: in ninety percent effective at improving hair coverage. For just

[32:57] Speaker 6: That's l ock l Ab dot Co and get started today.
[33:14] Speaker 2: And we're back. You're locked in with Health Talk America.
[33:18] Speaker 2: I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and I've got to tell you
[33:22] Speaker 2: today's next question is one of my favorite kinds because
[33:27] Speaker 2: it's the kind of thing that is sitting in half
[33:30] Speaker 2: of the medicine cabinets in America right now. It's unopened,
[33:34] Speaker 2: it's unused, and it's quietly gathering dust. So if this
[33:38] Speaker 2: sounds familiar, I want you to keep listening. And here's
[33:42] Speaker 2: your quick reminder before we dive in that our call
[33:45] Speaker 2: in line never closes, and that is at eight hundred
[33:49] Speaker 2: six zero six eight A two two. And if you
[33:52] Speaker 2: want to dive deeper on anything that we cover today,
[33:55] Speaker 2: it's all archived for you over at Healthtalkamerica dot com
[34:00] Speaker 2: get us eight hundred six or O six eight A
[34:02] Speaker 2: two two or our website which is Healthtalkamerica dot com.
[34:08] Speaker 2: All right, next up, we have a question from Jack.
[34:14] Speaker 4: Okay, my name is Jack, and I'm calling you to
[34:17] Speaker 4: I have a product Hive Health Market B six vitamins,
[34:25] Speaker 4: and I want to find out what the benefit of
[34:29] Speaker 4: taking a beech it is. I bought it some time ago,
[34:34] Speaker 4: I've never taken it, and I'd like to know whether
[34:37] Speaker 4: it's wortriped for me to take it or not take it.
[34:41] Speaker 4: B six health Market Meditation.
[34:46] Speaker 2: Thank you, Okay, thanks for your question, Jack, And it's
[34:52] Speaker 2: a refreshingly honest, is this something that is worth actually
[34:56] Speaker 2: taking or should he just let it keep collecting. I
[35:01] Speaker 2: can appreciate that kind of question because it means he's
[35:03] Speaker 2: not just blindly popping pills. He wants to understand the
[35:07] Speaker 2: why before committing. That's exactly the right instinct and why
[35:13] Speaker 2: the show exists to answer your questions. So let's talk
[35:18] Speaker 2: and start with B six specifically, and I want to
[35:22] Speaker 2: zoom out then on the whole vitamin family, because they
[35:27] Speaker 2: really do work as a team. So vitamin B six,
[35:30] Speaker 2: it's involved in more than a hundred enzyme reactions in
[35:34] Speaker 2: the body. That alone tells you it's not some minor player.
[35:38] Speaker 2: It's essential for protein metabolism, meaning your body needs it
[35:43] Speaker 2: to break down and use the protein that you eat.
[35:46] Speaker 2: It plays a major role in red blood cell production,
[35:51] Speaker 2: so adequate B six helps prevent a certain time of anemia.
[35:57] Speaker 2: It's involved in neurotransmitter synthesis. You're talking about things like
[36:03] Speaker 2: serotonin and dopamine, which affect your mood, your sleep, and
[36:08] Speaker 2: your mental clarity. And it supports a healthy immune system
[36:12] Speaker 2: and also a healthy nervous system. So there's a lot
[36:15] Speaker 2: of functions here with B six. Now here's the honest
[36:20] Speaker 2: the balance answer to whether he should take it. So
[36:23] Speaker 2: if you eat a reasonably very diet of like poultry, fish, potatoes, chickpeas, bananas,
[36:32] Speaker 2: fortified cereals, you're likely getting adequate B six already, since
[36:39] Speaker 2: a true deficiency is relatively uncommon and otherwise healthy adults. However,
[36:45] Speaker 2: there are specific groups who often benefit more directly from supplementation,
[36:50] Speaker 2: and we're talking older adults since the absorption tends to
[36:54] Speaker 2: decline with age, or people with certain kidney or autoimmune conditions,
[37:00] Speaker 2: those on specific medications that deplete the body's B six,
[37:04] Speaker 2: including some blood pressure medications in also long term antibiotic use,
[37:11] Speaker 2: and people with restrictive diets who may not be getting
[37:14] Speaker 2: consistent sources in it. So one important caution. B six
[37:19] Speaker 2: is one of the few water soluble vitamins we're taking.
[37:23] Speaker 2: Too much over a long period can actually cause nerve
[37:27] Speaker 2: related side effects such as as tingling or numbness in
[37:31] Speaker 2: the hands and feet. So this isn't necessarily a more
[37:34] Speaker 2: as always better situation. A standard daily value dose is
[37:39] Speaker 2: typically safe and it's reasonable. The mega dosing without medical
[37:43] Speaker 2: guidance is where I'd urge that caution. So now let's
[37:47] Speaker 2: let's zoom out because I don't want to leave this
[37:50] Speaker 2: in isolation. The B vitamins as a family are foundational
[37:54] Speaker 2: to how your body. You're an ear tire body runs.
[37:58] Speaker 2: B one helps convert food into usable energy and supports
[38:03] Speaker 2: nerve function. B two, known as ribal flavor, supports energy
[38:08] Speaker 2: production and cellular health. B three is niosin and that
[38:11] Speaker 2: supports cholesterol metabolism and skin health. B five supports hormone production.
[38:17] Speaker 2: B nine, which is FOLL eight, is critical for DNA
[38:20] Speaker 2: synthesis and especially vital during pregnancy for preventing those neural
[38:25] Speaker 2: tube defects. And B twelve works hand in hand with
[38:28] Speaker 2: B six and FOL late to support red blood cell
[38:32] Speaker 2: formation and nervous system health. In B twelve deficiency in
[38:36] Speaker 2: particular becomes much more common as we age, especially in
[38:41] Speaker 2: anyone on long term acid reducing medications or following a
[38:46] Speaker 2: plant based diet. So my recommendation for Jack and anyone
[38:51] Speaker 2: in a similar spot with a lonely bottle in the cabinet,
[38:54] Speaker 2: it's this, Rather than deciding on isolation, take a look
[38:57] Speaker 2: at whether a B complex sub implement might actually serve
[39:01] Speaker 2: you better than an isolated B six A quality B
[39:06] Speaker 2: vitamin complex gives you the full teamworking together, rather than
[39:10] Speaker 2: just one player on the field by itself, and for
[39:13] Speaker 2: most adults, it's safe and it's a sensible way to
[39:16] Speaker 2: fill in those dietary gaps. So that said, if you
[39:19] Speaker 2: have a specific reason you believe that you're low in
[39:22] Speaker 2: B six, say certain medications or dietary patterns, then yes,
[39:27] Speaker 2: the bottle that you already own is absolutely worth using
[39:31] Speaker 2: and taken at the standard recommendation that is used to
[39:35] Speaker 2: the dose for that not anymore. And as always, my
[39:39] Speaker 2: blanket advice applies here. It's if you're on any prescription medication,
[39:43] Speaker 2: run any new supplement by your physician or pharmacist first,
[39:47] Speaker 2: just to be sure that there's no interaction, even though
[39:49] Speaker 2: that's rare and nothing to worry about there. So it's
[39:52] Speaker 2: a great question, Jack, and keep those questions coming. We've
[39:55] Speaker 2: got to take a short break here on Health Talk
[39:57] Speaker 2: America and we'll be right back.

[42:04] Speaker 2: What's wrong within, What's wrong within? Content in That's our
[42:14] Speaker 2: hour here on health Talk America and friends. Thank you
[42:18] Speaker 2: for spending it with me. I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and
[42:21] Speaker 2: before we sign off, I want to circle back to
[42:24] Speaker 2: where we started today because it ties in everything else
[42:28] Speaker 2: that we cover into one simple thread. Remember the story
[42:34] Speaker 2: that we opened with the idea that if Americans simply
[42:38] Speaker 2: got healthier and actually use the preventative care already available
[42:43] Speaker 2: to them, it could add something like a trillion dollars
[42:49] Speaker 2: back into our economy. Well, think about everything else we
[42:53] Speaker 2: talked about in between, that hernia that needed a professional
[42:58] Speaker 2: set of eyes instead of a quiet worry, a kidney
[43:02] Speaker 2: stone that could very likely be prevented next time with
[43:07] Speaker 2: better hydration and smarter, not stricter eating, or a forgotten
[43:12] Speaker 2: bottle of B six that turned into a real conversation
[43:16] Speaker 2: about what your body actually needs. Every single one of
[43:21] Speaker 2: these moments and these questions is prevention and action, small
[43:26] Speaker 2: decisions that are made consistently that keeps you out of
[43:31] Speaker 2: the emergency room and in charge of your own health story.
[43:37] Speaker 2: That's just good medicine, and it starts with you. Now.
[43:42] Speaker 2: A heartfelt thank you to everyone who called and wrote
[43:46] Speaker 2: in the show. Your questions are the entire engine of
[43:50] Speaker 2: the show. And without them, doctor Bob and I are
[43:54] Speaker 2: just two people talking into microphones. With them, we're a
[43:58] Speaker 2: community that's figuring us out together. So to everyone who
[44:03] Speaker 2: trusted us with something personal today, thank you. Keep those
[44:07] Speaker 2: calls in, those emails coming in, because chances are if
[44:12] Speaker 2: you're wondering and you're worried about it, thousands of other
[44:16] Speaker 2: listeners are wondering about the exact same thing. Before I
[44:22] Speaker 2: let you go, here's your health tip to carry into
[44:26] Speaker 2: the rest of your day. I want you to pick
[44:28] Speaker 2: one preventative step that you've been putting off maybe that's
[44:32] Speaker 2: that annual wellness visit, that the follow up on a
[44:37] Speaker 2: nagging symptom or a supplement conversation that you need to
[44:41] Speaker 2: have with your doctor. And I want you to schedule
[44:44] Speaker 2: it this week, not someday, not when you get around
[44:49] Speaker 2: to it. I want you to do it this week.
[44:51] Speaker 2: Prevention only works if you actually act on it, and
[44:56] Speaker 2: today is as good a day to start as And
