[1:12] Speaker 1: That's 800-606-8822. This is Health Talk America.
[1:27] Speaker 2: Welcome to Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman, and
[1:30] Speaker 2: for the next hour, we are going to talk about
[1:33] Speaker 2: something you use every waking moment and almost never think
[1:38] Speaker 2: about it until it starts to fade. I'm talking about
[1:41] Speaker 2: your eyesight. I want you to think about it. Your
[1:45] Speaker 2: eyes deliver roughly 80% of the information that you take
[1:48] Speaker 2: in about the world. Faces of your grandchildren, the road
[1:53] Speaker 2: ahead of you, the expiration date on the milk. And yet,
[1:58] Speaker 2: most of us give our pets more attention than we
[2:01] Speaker 2: give our own eyes. We insure our cars and our
[2:05] Speaker 2: phones and our appliances. But the only pair of eyes
[2:10] Speaker 2: that you'll ever get, we just hope for the best.
[2:14] Speaker 2: So here's how this hour will unfold. First, I'll bring
[2:18] Speaker 2: you a story out of the world of ophthalmology that
[2:22] Speaker 2: touches millions of Americans and it involves one of the
[2:25] Speaker 2: most talked about drug classes around the globe. Then, for
[2:29] Speaker 2: the rest of the hour, I'm joined by a guest
[2:31] Speaker 2: who has spent decades educating people on how to protect
[2:35] Speaker 2: and improve their vision. And we will get into your
[2:39] Speaker 2: questions about cataracts, floaters, dry eyes, and more. Before we
[2:44] Speaker 2: go any further, here's how you can reach us. The
[2:47] Speaker 2: toll-free hotline into the show is 800-606-8822. That's 800-606-8822. And
[2:54] Speaker 2: I want you to visit healthtalkamerica.com for show notes and
[3:01] Speaker 2: behind the scenes content. That's healthtalkamerica.com. And you can find
[3:06] Speaker 2: us on our YouTube channel and across the social networks
[3:09] Speaker 2: by searching for Health Talk America or myself, Dr. Adam Brockman.
[3:14] Speaker 2: I want you to follow, share, and call in. Now,
[3:18] Speaker 2: let's talk about your eyes. If you've been anywhere near
[3:22] Speaker 2: the news or a doctor's office or a family dinner lately,
[3:27] Speaker 2: you've heard about GLP-1 drugs. These are the medications used
[3:32] Speaker 2: for diabetes and increasingly for weight loss. Millions of Americans
[3:38] Speaker 2: are taking them. And at an annual meeting of the
[3:41] Speaker 2: American Academy of Ophthalmology, a new study put a spotlight
[3:46] Speaker 2: on something that deserves our attention. And I want to
[3:49] Speaker 2: walk you through it. It involves a rare condition with
[3:53] Speaker 2: a very long name, non-arteriatic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. Doctors
[4:02] Speaker 2: call it NAION. Now, let's translate that. It is essentially
[4:09] Speaker 2: a stroke of the optic nerve in your eye. The
[4:13] Speaker 2: optic nerve doesn't get enough blood flow, and the result
[4:16] Speaker 2: is sudden, painless loss of vision in one eye. Sudden, painless.
[4:22] Speaker 2: That's what makes it so dangerous. There's no warning ache.
[4:25] Speaker 2: There's no Red flag, a person wakes up one morning
[4:30] Speaker 2: and part of their world is simply missing. Again, that's
[4:33] Speaker 2: no pain, no warning, just a patch of the world
[4:36] Speaker 2: that's suddenly gone. That's why this condition I wanted to
[4:40] Speaker 2: discuss today. NAION usually strikes one eye, but it can
[4:47] Speaker 2: strike the second. Researchers note that roughly 15% of patients
[4:51] Speaker 2: will develop it in the other eye within five years
[4:54] Speaker 2: of the first diagnosis. quick, the back-to-back involvement of both
[4:59] Speaker 2: eyes is typically less common. And here's where the story
[5:03] Speaker 2: gets interesting. It began with a clinical hunch. An ophthalmologist
[5:08] Speaker 2: noticed a cluster of patients arriving over a short span
[5:12] Speaker 2: of time with NAION in both eyes, one right after
[5:17] Speaker 2: the other, and occasionally at the same time. And every
[5:21] Speaker 2: one of them was taking a GLP-1 medication. So the
[5:26] Speaker 2: team did what good scientists do. They went to the data.
[5:30] Speaker 2: Using a large national database of health records, they compared
[5:35] Speaker 2: about 1,400 GLP-1 users who had NAION in both eyes
[5:43] Speaker 2: against roughly 20,000 people who weren't taking the drugs. They
[5:48] Speaker 2: tracked how long it took for the second eye to
[5:51] Speaker 2: be affected. And the difference was striking. Among GLP-1 users,
[5:57] Speaker 2: 57% of the second eye events happened within six months
[6:02] Speaker 2: of the first. Among non-users, that number was about 40%.
[6:07] Speaker 2: In other words, the second eye was hit sooner in
[6:10] Speaker 2: people on these medications. Now, I want to go ahead
[6:15] Speaker 2: and slow down because this is where the headlines get
[6:19] Speaker 2: a little bit dangerous. The researchers themselves were careful to
[6:24] Speaker 2: say this, that it's an association, not proof of cause
[6:29] Speaker 2: and effect. And there's an important wrinkle in this. The
[6:32] Speaker 2: GLP-1 users in the study had higher average blood sugar
[6:37] Speaker 2: levels measured by A1c by a full percentage point or more.
[6:44] Speaker 2: That means more severe diabetes, not maybe the drug itself,
[6:49] Speaker 2: could be explaining some or even all of what they saw.
[6:53] Speaker 2: The data was also aggregated rather than drawn from individual
[6:58] Speaker 2: patient records, which limits what the study can conclude. So
[7:03] Speaker 2: let me say this. do not stop taking your medication
[7:07] Speaker 2: because of this study. And that's not me just saying that.
[7:12] Speaker 2: That's the research team message to patients as well. These
[7:15] Speaker 2: drugs can carry meaningful benefits for diabetes, obesity, and heart health,
[7:20] Speaker 2: and nobody should abandon them just based off of this presentation.
[7:26] Speaker 2: What the researchers are asking for is vigilance, not alarm.
[7:31] Speaker 2: So what would vigilance look like? For ophthalmologists, it means
[7:36] Speaker 2: treating GLP-1 use as an important part of the medication
[7:39] Speaker 2: history for anyone that comes in with NAION, especially when
[7:45] Speaker 2: consulting a patient after that first eye event. And for you,
[7:50] Speaker 2: it means know the warning signs, that sudden, the painless
[7:54] Speaker 2: vision loss or a new area of missing vision. If
[7:57] Speaker 2: that happens, you do not wait for your next appointment.
[8:01] Speaker 2: You not sleep on it. You need to seek prompt evaluation.
[8:06] Speaker 2: And here's why I wanted to tell you this story.
[8:09] Speaker 2: And it goes beyond the drug itself. This is how
[8:13] Speaker 2: medicine is supposed to work. A doctor notices something unusual
[8:17] Speaker 2: in the exam room. He or she doesn't dismiss it.
[8:20] Speaker 2: The question the doctor asks, is this real? Then he
[8:23] Speaker 2: or she goes to the data to test it. And
[8:26] Speaker 2: when the numbers come in, the researchers don't oversell them.
[8:31] Speaker 2: They lay out the limits right alongside the findings. So
[8:36] Speaker 2: that is what we talk about with transparency and also accountability.
[8:41] Speaker 2: Good science shows you its homework, including the parts that
[8:45] Speaker 2: complicate the story. And it underscores something else. The eye
[8:50] Speaker 2: is a window into that whole body. Blood flow, blood sugar, medications, nutrition,
[8:57] Speaker 2: all of it shows up in your vision. When something
[9:00] Speaker 2: is off in the body, the eye is often one
[9:03] Speaker 2: of the first to tell us. Now, I don't want
[9:06] Speaker 2: to leave you on a worrying note because there is
[9:09] Speaker 2: some encouraging news from the same meeting. Ophthalmologists reviewed what
[9:13] Speaker 2: the evidence actually shows about nutrition and in the eye,
[9:17] Speaker 2: and some of it is very strong. They highlighted solid
[9:21] Speaker 2: evidence for nutrition's role in managing dry eye disease and
[9:25] Speaker 2: age-related macular degeneration. Dietary patterns rich in lutein and omega-3
[9:31] Speaker 2: fatty acids were associated with a significantly lower risk of
[9:36] Speaker 2: macular degeneration progression. The reported range was roughly 20 to
[9:41] Speaker 2: 56 percent, depending on the study. They also noted that
[9:45] Speaker 2: diets rich in green leafy vegetables are associated with a
[9:49] Speaker 2: lower risk of glaucoma, while higher caffeine and alcohol intake
[9:53] Speaker 2: have been associated with a greater risk. So the spinach
[9:57] Speaker 2: on your plate may be doing more for your eyes
[9:59] Speaker 2: than you think. Your grandmother, she told you to eat
[10:03] Speaker 2: your carrots. The research suggests she should have also said
[10:07] Speaker 2: eat your greens as well. So your eyes are fed
[10:10] Speaker 2: by your fork and every plate can be your prescription.
[10:15] Speaker 2: All right, when we come back, my guest today is
[10:18] Speaker 2: Leslie Burke, a vision health expert who has spent years
[10:21] Speaker 2: educating people on how they can protect and improve their
[10:25] Speaker 2: eyesight based on the latest research. We'll talk about cataracts, floaters,
[10:30] Speaker 2: dry eyes, and what you need to know. and how
[10:33] Speaker 2: to look after your vision. And if you have any
[10:35] Speaker 2: questions along the way about your eyes, start thinking about
[10:39] Speaker 2: them now. The hotline is 800-606-8822. That's 800-606-8822. You're listening

[12:43] Speaker 2: and across places. the social media networks by searching Health
[12:46] Speaker 2: Talk America or myself, Dr. Adam Brockman. Now, I promised
[12:51] Speaker 2: you a guest today, and I'm delighted to welcome her
[12:54] Speaker 2: back to the program. Ms. Leslie Burke is a vision
[12:57] Speaker 2: health expert with a focus on educating people on how
[13:01] Speaker 2: to protect their health. vision, and improve it, drawing on
[13:05] Speaker 2: the latest research. Leslie served on the U.S. liaison for
[13:10] Speaker 2: the Hemholtz Research Institute for Ocular Disease, where clinical research
[13:15] Speaker 2: was conducted that led to the development of a cataract
[13:19] Speaker 2: eyedrop based on N-acetylcarnosine. She was responsible for introducing these
[13:25] Speaker 2: drops through CanSee eyedrops to the United States. She is
[13:29] Speaker 2: the long-term CEO of Wise Choice Medicine, which continues to
[13:34] Speaker 2: offer solutions that are aimed to supporting vision health. Leslie,
[13:38] Speaker 2: welcome to Health Talk America.
[13:41] Speaker 4: Well, thank you for having me on, doctor. Good to
[13:43] Speaker 4: be here.
[13:44] Speaker 2: Well, thanks, Leslie. I know the idea of using a
[13:49] Speaker 2: topical application of N-acetylcarnosine for the eye was first presented
[13:54] Speaker 2: at an anti-aging conference in London by a keynote speaker.
[13:59] Speaker 2: It's Dr. Mark Bazyshev of Moscow. Dr. Bob was at
[14:05] Speaker 2: that conference and shortly after he ordered K & C
[14:10] Speaker 2: eye drops from you for his own existing cataract condition.
[14:14] Speaker 2: And since then, he has told listeners for years that
[14:17] Speaker 2: he was so impressed by the improvement in his vision
[14:20] Speaker 2: that he has recommended your company and so have I,
[14:24] Speaker 2: your products ever since then. So I'm also aware that
[14:29] Speaker 2: further work has been done here in the United States,
[14:32] Speaker 2: resulting in another brand of N-acetylcarnosine eye drops called Oclamed.
[14:38] Speaker 2: We have talked about it on the show in recent months.
[14:41] Speaker 2: It contains... a slightly higher dose of N-acetylcarnosine and then
[14:47] Speaker 2: several other complementary peptides intended to further support its effect
[14:53] Speaker 2: in the eyes. So, just to confirm, Wise Choice Medicine
[14:57] Speaker 2: offers both the original Can-C formulation and then the newer
[15:01] Speaker 2: Aquamed formula as well?
[15:03] Speaker 4: That's correct.
[15:04] Speaker 3: And.
[15:06] Speaker 4: Both have their merits, but the bottom line is that
[15:10] Speaker 4: you are getting N-acetylcarnosine, that mouthful of a word that
[15:13] Speaker 4: we all have to say over and over again. You
[15:17] Speaker 4: are getting it effectively reestablished, and I use the term reestablished.
[15:22] Speaker 4: I think that's so critical for people to understand that
[15:24] Speaker 4: this is something that's naturally present in young, healthy eye tissue.
[15:30] Speaker 4: And that was the huge breakthrough was discovering that eyes
[15:35] Speaker 4: that had become diseased had this gross deficiency that was
[15:42] Speaker 4: quite distinct from young healthy eye tissue. And that's where
[15:45] Speaker 4: this all began. So and then finding a way to
[15:50] Speaker 4: reestablish that in the eyes, which, as you know, the
[15:54] Speaker 4: eyes are very complicated. They're actually part of the brain.
[15:58] Speaker 4: The blood brain barrier protects all the bad stuff from
[16:01] Speaker 4: getting in, but it also protects a lot of the
[16:03] Speaker 4: good stuff from getting to the eye. So it's always
[16:06] Speaker 4: been kind of a tricky challenge, you know, how to
[16:09] Speaker 4: support eye health. And we still don't really understand how
[16:13] Speaker 4: the eyes work. You know, this is why the research
[16:15] Speaker 4: has to continue and still is continuing in all these venues.
[16:20] Speaker 2: Well, good. So we got the two options in one
[16:23] Speaker 2: family through Wise Choice Medicine. So let's go ahead and
[16:26] Speaker 2: get into some of the questions. Leslie, can you give
[16:30] Speaker 2: us just a brief overview of how N-acetylcarnosine, the eye drops,
[16:35] Speaker 2: came about and how they actually work to improve your vision?
[16:39] Speaker 4: Yes. It's really an interesting story because the initial research,
[16:44] Speaker 4: as you know, was done in Russia. at one of
[16:46] Speaker 4: the leading ocular research institutes in the world. It's where
[16:49] Speaker 4: LASIK surgery was actually developed. And they just allocate funds
[16:55] Speaker 4: annually to these different research institutes. They are not funded
[17:00] Speaker 4: by pharma companies, kind of like our research is conducted here.
[17:03] Speaker 4: And so it's just pure science. And so they were
[17:07] Speaker 4: simply looking at the distinctions between healthy eye tissue and
[17:10] Speaker 4: unhealthy eye tissue. And that's where they found this discrepancy.
[17:14] Speaker 4: and began to find ways to reestablish carnosine into the eye,
[17:19] Speaker 4: which was the ingredient that they found was deficient. And
[17:23] Speaker 4: they started out with rodent trials. They then went on
[17:26] Speaker 4: to canine studies, and I know those are awful, but
[17:29] Speaker 4: it's Russia, and that's the way they do research, and
[17:32] Speaker 4: we do too. But anyway, they just had such dramatic
[17:37] Speaker 4: results at every level. They went on and actually did double-blind,
[17:40] Speaker 4: placebo-based clinical trials on humans. And they did multiple studies
[17:47] Speaker 4: and the results were just phenomenal. I mean, we're talking
[17:50] Speaker 4: up to, you know, from 80 to 100 percent of
[17:53] Speaker 4: the participants had improvement. And they had cataracts that had
[17:56] Speaker 4: been present in people's eyes for 20 years. And then,
[18:00] Speaker 4: you know, they had earlier cataracts as well. So they
[18:02] Speaker 4: did the whole gamut. Most of the participants were over 60.
[18:07] Speaker 4: And so when Dr. Babachea began to present this information
[18:12] Speaker 4: that they found, he had no intention of building a product.
[18:15] Speaker 4: He wasn't even thinking commercially. They were on to the
[18:17] Speaker 4: next science project for the following year. And when he
[18:22] Speaker 4: presented that information, he was being pursued by pharma companies
[18:26] Speaker 4: and all these people. And he was totally out of
[18:29] Speaker 4: his depth. You know, he wasn't even interested in making
[18:32] Speaker 4: a product. He wanted to do his next research. So
[18:36] Speaker 4: they finally got him, you know, a pharmacist from Britain
[18:40] Speaker 4: finally got a hold of him and nailed it down
[18:42] Speaker 4: and got this product made. So It's been available here
[18:46] Speaker 4: in the United States since early 2000s now. And so
[18:51] Speaker 4: I was one of the first ones. I just happened
[18:53] Speaker 4: to be in the right place at the right time,
[18:55] Speaker 4: met the pharmacist who was working with Dr.
[18:57] Speaker 2: Babachiff.
[18:58] Speaker 4: And I actually got to know him very well. And
[19:01] Speaker 4: we actually flew him out. He did trainings and seminars
[19:04] Speaker 4: for our staff and for our team. Just an amazing guy,
[19:09] Speaker 4: just a genius, a little different, you know, as a
[19:13] Speaker 4: Russian genius might be, but absolutely brilliant. And so we
[19:19] Speaker 4: have been helping people with cataract conditions, glaucoma conditions, you
[19:24] Speaker 4: name it. It seems to address it because it really
[19:28] Speaker 4: just gives the eye back what it had when it
[19:30] Speaker 4: was young. So the eye is about the most amazing
[19:34] Speaker 4: healing machine in our body. And what Dr. Babajayev told
[19:37] Speaker 4: me was that the healing response in the eye is
[19:40] Speaker 4: 500 times that of any other system in the body.
[19:44] Speaker 4: So the cellular repair rate in the eye is that
[19:47] Speaker 4: much faster in the eye, which is why if you
[19:49] Speaker 4: get an injury in the eye it does heal very
[19:52] Speaker 4: quickly the downside of that is that if there's an
[19:56] Speaker 4: imbalance in the eye the decline of health can happen
[19:59] Speaker 4: also rapidly right so keeping that equilibrium where it needs
[20:05] Speaker 4: to be is so critical And so this is where
[20:09] Speaker 4: something like this comes in and understanding, you know, the
[20:11] Speaker 4: pH of the eye, not stressing our eyes. We're under
[20:16] Speaker 4: so much stress on our computer screens. We're depleting all
[20:19] Speaker 4: the natural resources of the eye. And so having a
[20:23] Speaker 4: tool like this to use to prevent the onset of
[20:26] Speaker 4: eye conditions.
[20:27] Speaker 2: Yeah. And Leslie, we do got to step away for
[20:30] Speaker 2: a short break. And folks, if you want to learn more,
[20:34] Speaker 2: Leslie's company, again, is Wise Choice Medicine. And their website

[20:46] Speaker 2: toll-free number is 800-861-4936. That's 800-861-4936. And here's something special

[21:32] Speaker 2: help you. And when we come back, we're going to
[21:34] Speaker 2: continue this conversation with Leslie Burke and dig into the
[21:37] Speaker 2: conditions people ask about most, cataracts, floaters, glaucoma, dry eyes,
[21:43] Speaker 2: and macular degeneration. I want you to stay with us.
[21:45] Speaker 2: You're listening to Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman,
[21:48] Speaker 2: and we'll be right back. And welcome back to Health
[22:11] Speaker 2: Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman, and we are continuing
[22:14] Speaker 2: with Leslie Burke, a vision health expert and the CEO
[22:17] Speaker 2: of Wise Choice Medicine. Leslie, thanks again for staying with us.
[22:21] Speaker 2: I got a question that we get asked quite often.
[22:24] Speaker 2: People hear about N-acetylcarnosine drops, and they ask, why would
[22:29] Speaker 2: one product be associated with so many different eye conditions?
[22:33] Speaker 2: And again, talking cataracts, floaters, glaucoma, dry eyes, macular degeneration.
[22:39] Speaker 2: Can you discuss why these drops seem to be of
[22:42] Speaker 2: interest across this wide range of eye conditions?
[22:44] Speaker 4: Well, yes, such a good question. All of these eye
[22:49] Speaker 4: conditions are brought on by a similar problem or imbalance,
[22:54] Speaker 4: you might say. Just with aging, you know, 40s is
[22:57] Speaker 4: when we start having problems, right? And so we're getting
[23:00] Speaker 4: more inflammation. We have insulin resistance. We know that glycation, sugar,
[23:06] Speaker 4: is a real problem for the eyes. This is why
[23:08] Speaker 4: diabetics have so many eye problems. So the same problem,
[23:13] Speaker 4: the same imbalance is what leads to each of these conditions. Now,
[23:17] Speaker 4: With that said, the N-acetylcarnosine that is being delivered to
[23:21] Speaker 4: the eyes is like, we always say this word, antioxidant,
[23:26] Speaker 4: but it's reversing the result of that inflammation that's happening
[23:30] Speaker 4: in the body and that sugar, you know, escalation. And
[23:33] Speaker 4: so all these little proteins in the eyes start sticking
[23:36] Speaker 4: together and clogging things up, to put it very simply, okay?
[23:39] Speaker 4: They call it cross-linking of the proteins. So these things
[23:42] Speaker 4: are getting sticky. They're sticking to the front of the
[23:44] Speaker 4: lens and the eye. They're building up everywhere in the eye.
[23:47] Speaker 4: They're blocking the outflow pathway in glaucoma patients. They're causing
[23:52] Speaker 4: problems in the back of the eye, in the retina.
[23:55] Speaker 4: So when you restore this balance back to the eye
[24:00] Speaker 4: where you are effectively addressing that glycation problem, then you're
[24:07] Speaker 4: just getting the culprit out of the way. And like
[24:08] Speaker 4: I said earlier about the eye having an incredible healing response, well,
[24:12] Speaker 4: you're getting the blocker out of the way. And then
[24:15] Speaker 4: the eye is actually doing all the work itself. it's
[24:17] Speaker 4: actually repairing itself because it's doing what it already wants
[24:21] Speaker 4: to do. It's just no longer being inhibited. So we
[24:25] Speaker 4: had so many people who would be using the product
[24:28] Speaker 4: for their cataracts and they'd find that their eye pressures
[24:30] Speaker 4: were getting better or their floaters were going away. So,
[24:34] Speaker 4: you know, it's, it's, It's really so simple in such
[24:37] Speaker 4: a complicated environment. You know, I try to keep it
[24:41] Speaker 4: as simple as I can in explaining it for people,
[24:44] Speaker 4: but it really is a simple concept. That's the beauty
[24:47] Speaker 4: of it, I think.
[24:48] Speaker 2: And there's a lot going on in the eyes, and that's,
[24:51] Speaker 2: you said what I love to discuss on the show.
[24:53] Speaker 2: I've been in regenerative medicine for years, and this is
[24:57] Speaker 2: just one thing that fits right in there. When you
[24:59] Speaker 2: said the regeneration, restoring, The eye health is so important.
[25:04] Speaker 2: So we get a lot of questions on these eye conditions.
[25:07] Speaker 2: So I want to go through as many as we
[25:09] Speaker 2: can with you. So let's go ahead and just start
[25:13] Speaker 2: with cataracts, that clouding of the eye's natural lens. Can
[25:18] Speaker 2: you describe that and how N-acetylcortisone will help with that?
[25:23] Speaker 4: Well, I'll explain to you the way Dr. Babachev explained
[25:26] Speaker 4: it to me. He just said that all these little
[25:28] Speaker 4: sticky proteins, again, are sticking to each other. They're attaching
[25:31] Speaker 4: themselves to the lens. And in the beginning, they're just random.
[25:34] Speaker 4: They're here and there, and it's not really affecting your
[25:37] Speaker 4: vision very much. But all of a sudden, when that
[25:40] Speaker 4: surface gets rough, they have something to grab onto. And
[25:43] Speaker 4: all of a sudden, it's really going fast. And it's
[25:46] Speaker 4: like somebody started turning out the light. You start noticing
[25:49] Speaker 4: all of a sudden your night vision is going. It
[25:51] Speaker 4: happens fast. And so when you start applying N-acetylcarnosine and
[25:57] Speaker 4: it starts reversing that glycation index, that sugar problem that's
[26:02] Speaker 4: causing them to stick, they actually start detaching from one another.
[26:06] Speaker 4: They start detaching from one another slowly. It's a very
[26:09] Speaker 4: slow process. He says, it's like you took a piece
[26:11] Speaker 4: of gauze and put it in front of your mouth,
[26:12] Speaker 4: your eyes, and you started pulling it apart. In the beginning,
[26:16] Speaker 4: you would hardly be able to see through it. But
[26:18] Speaker 4: as you pull it apart further and further, pretty soon
[26:20] Speaker 4: you don't see the threads anymore, even though the threads
[26:23] Speaker 4: are there. So that's kind of how it works. It's
[26:26] Speaker 4: very simple. The natural waste system of the eye is
[26:29] Speaker 4: removing those particles very slowly. And typically within three months,
[26:34] Speaker 4: people are seeing brightness, color clarity improvements. They're able to
[26:40] Speaker 4: read road signs better from a distance. Those are the
[26:43] Speaker 4: things we tell people to really look for. Night vision improvements,
[26:47] Speaker 4: things of that nature. So it's not something you have
[26:50] Speaker 4: to just take and hope is working like we do
[26:52] Speaker 4: with vitamin C, for example. You know, we think it's
[26:55] Speaker 4: helping us. We never know for sure. But with this,
[26:59] Speaker 4: you can actually see the improvements. And so it gets
[27:03] Speaker 4: a lot more, we have a lot of compliance because
[27:06] Speaker 4: people see the improvement. So then they get really excited
[27:09] Speaker 4: about continuing to take.
[27:11] Speaker 2: And this is what spurred Dr. Bob's interest in the first,
[27:17] Speaker 2: you know, when you guys first initially met was the
[27:20] Speaker 2: help with what you just described, the night vision and such.
[27:24] Speaker 2: Is that correct? Mm-hmm.
[27:26] Speaker 4: And he went to his eye doctor who he'd been
[27:28] Speaker 4: going to faithfully for years and years and years. And
[27:31] Speaker 4: his doctor just kind of casually said to him, oh, yeah,
[27:33] Speaker 4: you've got cataract. You're going to need to have cataract
[27:36] Speaker 4: surgery here in a little while. And he was like, what?
[27:40] Speaker 4: How come I didn't hear about this before? And part
[27:43] Speaker 4: of the problem is, is that doctors are so used
[27:46] Speaker 4: to seeing it. And one doctor's cataract is another doctor's
[27:50] Speaker 4: aging eye lens. You can go to three different doctors,
[27:52] Speaker 4: get three different diagnoses. Because the lens does thicken with aging.
[27:56] Speaker 4: And then there's the clouding up part of cataract too.
[27:59] Speaker 4: There are two different parts kind of of what is
[28:01] Speaker 4: diagnosed as cataract. But he was devastated. And he had
[28:05] Speaker 4: been to that conference in Monaco where Dr. Babachev had
[28:09] Speaker 4: presented that information. So when he got that diagnosis, he
[28:12] Speaker 4: started searching and he found me. And I shot him
[28:16] Speaker 4: over a box of eye drops because I knew who
[28:21] Speaker 4: he was. He was so excited. He was telling everybody
[28:24] Speaker 4: about it for years before I ever even came on
[28:26] Speaker 4: his show.
[28:27] Speaker 1: So.
[28:28] Speaker 2: Yeah. And again, it's a great product. We're talking about
[28:32] Speaker 2: the can see eye drops initially. And now now the
[28:36] Speaker 2: research that you've been a part of and help to
[28:39] Speaker 2: get the Aquamed on the on the market as well. Leslie,
[28:43] Speaker 2: I we got a minute or so before break. I
[28:45] Speaker 2: want to hit a couple more of these if we can.
[28:46] Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and talk about glaucoma, which can be
[28:49] Speaker 2: that silent the thief of sight.
[28:52] Speaker 4: Yes, with glaucoma, it's kind of a similar concept. So
[28:55] Speaker 4: there is something called the trabecular meshwork, which is sort
[28:59] Speaker 4: of the outflow pathway of the eye that releases the pressure.
[29:03] Speaker 4: It actually is a meshwork. So if you think of
[29:05] Speaker 4: a big pipe with a mesh on the end of it,
[29:07] Speaker 4: that's kind of what it looks like. And so the
[29:10] Speaker 4: same oxidation that's clogging up and getting those little sticky
[29:13] Speaker 4: proteins on the front of the lens is what's also
[29:16] Speaker 4: clogging up that outflow pathway in the eye. So it's
[29:20] Speaker 4: the same concept. We had, you know, Dr. Babachev had
[29:23] Speaker 4: told me years ago that they had noted in the
[29:26] Speaker 4: trials that there was improvement in eye pressure, but they
[29:29] Speaker 4: hadn't gone on and done additional studies just targeting glaucoma.
[29:33] Speaker 4: I sure wish they had. But since that time, we've
[29:36] Speaker 4: had so many people who have used the product for
[29:39] Speaker 4: their cataract. and then they're reporting to us that all
[29:42] Speaker 4: of a sudden their eye pressures are better. I have
[29:44] Speaker 4: one guy who had glaucoma since he was a child.
[29:48] Speaker 4: And he had his eye pressures were running about 24
[29:52] Speaker 4: and 25, which if you know, that's pretty high. And
[29:55] Speaker 4: he was on three different meds. So, you know, and
[29:58] Speaker 4: then he got improvement. So he was just thrilled. He
[30:00] Speaker 4: still orders from us to this day, every day, every month.
[30:04] Speaker 4: I mean, I see his order come through.
[30:05] Speaker 2: Well, great. Well, great. Yeah. And that's what we want everybody.
[30:10] Speaker 2: Be proactive. Get your regular eye exams. Protect your eyes.
[30:14] Speaker 2: Nourish them. And then use the supportive products like CanSee
[30:17] Speaker 2: and Aquamed. alongside that professional care. And folks, if you'd
[30:22] Speaker 2: like to explore the NAC eye drops from Wise Choice Medicine,

[30:38] Speaker 2: I will cover side effects, what to do if you've
[30:41] Speaker 2: already had cataract surgery, medication concerns and how many drops
[30:46] Speaker 2: to use each day. I want you to stay with us.
[30:47] Speaker 2: You're listening to Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman
[30:50] Speaker 2: and we'll be right back. Welcome back to Health Talk America.
[31:12] Speaker 2: I'm Dr. Adam Brockman, and we're continuing our conversation with
[31:15] Speaker 2: Leslie Burke of Wise Choice Medicine. Leslie, we've covered a
[31:19] Speaker 2: lot of ground already, so let's go ahead and get practical.
[31:22] Speaker 2: Are there any side effects to take into consideration with
[31:25] Speaker 2: Can-C or Aquamed?
[31:27] Speaker 4: There are no negative side effects. In the 20 years
[31:30] Speaker 4: that I've been working with the product, Of course, if
[31:33] Speaker 4: somebody has extreme chemical sensitivities, you know, there are those cases.
[31:38] Speaker 4: And if you have extremely irritated eyes, you know, they're
[31:42] Speaker 4: like over the top dry and irritated. You might notice
[31:45] Speaker 4: something in the beginning when you first start using the product.
[31:48] Speaker 4: But as soon as the carnosine levels are reestablished in
[31:51] Speaker 4: the eye, that all goes away. And you get nice
[31:55] Speaker 4: homeostasis in the eye. They're happy campers.
[31:57] Speaker 2: So.
[31:58] Speaker 4: No is the answer to your question.
[32:00] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. That's great. That's great. So, Leslie, some of
[32:04] Speaker 2: our listeners have already had cataract surgery. What about them?
[32:09] Speaker 2: What if you already have had that cataract surgery? How's
[32:14] Speaker 2: the timeline fit in with everything here?
[32:16] Speaker 4: Well, it's important to note that about 70% of people
[32:18] Speaker 4: who have cataract surgery end up having to have a
[32:21] Speaker 4: secondary procedure done a few years later because of the
[32:24] Speaker 4: trauma to the lens that developed something called a subcapsular cataract.
[32:28] Speaker 4: So using Can-C, actually Dr. Babache, I've recommended this highly, post-surgery,
[32:33] Speaker 4: of course, after you're done with all your medications and everything,
[32:36] Speaker 4: and per your doctor's okay, is a wonderful way to
[32:41] Speaker 4: ensure that you don't have any secondary issues manifest. Because
[32:46] Speaker 4: that is quite a trauma to the eye, even though
[32:48] Speaker 4: it goes quickly and you feel great afterwards, the eye
[32:51] Speaker 4: does not like trauma. We always call the eye the
[32:53] Speaker 4: canary in the cave. is not a happy camper. You know,
[32:58] Speaker 4: you can get a car wreck and hit your head
[33:00] Speaker 4: and get a cataract the next, you know, week or so.
[33:02] Speaker 4: So keeping it happy and relaxed and supported is one
[33:07] Speaker 4: of the best things you can do to ensure you're
[33:08] Speaker 4: going to have long-term good results after surgery.
[33:12] Speaker 2: Great. And that's an excellent point. It deserves the emphasis here.
[33:15] Speaker 2: So after the cataract surgery, your surgeon will give you
[33:19] Speaker 2: a specific drop regime, usually an antibiotic. And Anti-inflammatory drops
[33:24] Speaker 2: for a few weeks. So, again, follow that. And then,
[33:29] Speaker 2: you know, have that conversation. And, you know, another fact
[33:33] Speaker 2: that you were talking about, even after a successful surgery,
[33:36] Speaker 2: some people develop that hazy film behind the lens, that
[33:41] Speaker 2: artificial lens, sometimes referred to as that secondary lens. cataract. So, again,
[33:47] Speaker 2: all these things are into consideration after the surgery and,
[33:50] Speaker 2: you know, timing is important. Leslie, are there any medications
[33:55] Speaker 2: that conflict with KNC or Aquamed?
[33:59] Speaker 4: No, there are no medications that conflict. Of course, again,
[34:02] Speaker 4: I have to keep saying this, check with your doctor.
[34:05] Speaker 4: Of course, if you're on heart meds and have complicated
[34:08] Speaker 4: health conditions, you definitely want to run it by your doctor.
[34:11] Speaker 4: But to my knowledge and my experience, there has been
[34:14] Speaker 4: no conflict with any medications whatsoever.
[34:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, great, great. So again, our suggestion, bring your full
[34:22] Speaker 2: medication and supplement list as well to your eye doctor
[34:27] Speaker 2: and also your pharmacist. And that's especially true if you
[34:31] Speaker 2: are taking blood thinners, you have diabetes, or you use
[34:34] Speaker 2: other prescription eye drops. And then, Leslie, as far as
[34:39] Speaker 2: how many drops a day would you use if you're
[34:43] Speaker 2: taking Can-C or Aquamed?
[34:45] Speaker 4: Well, in the beginning, you're doing higher dosing. So with Can-C,
[34:49] Speaker 4: it's four drops daily to each eye. So that's a
[34:52] Speaker 4: total of eight drops, right? If you're treating both eyes.
[34:55] Speaker 4: And with Oclamed, it's three drops daily. It's a little
[34:58] Speaker 4: higher percentage of N-acetylcarnosine in Oclamed. And so you use
[35:03] Speaker 4: a little less of the product, okay? So, and this
[35:07] Speaker 4: is just in the beginning. As soon as you start
[35:09] Speaker 4: seeing notable improvements in your vision, we know that you've
[35:12] Speaker 4: reestablished the carnosine levels in the eye, at which time
[35:16] Speaker 4: you can reduce your dosing Because just keeping the levels
[35:20] Speaker 4: there allows the healing response to continue. And you will
[35:23] Speaker 4: continue to have improvement using less of the product. And Dr.
[35:27] Speaker 4: Babachev was very much a minimalist. He felt that, you know,
[35:30] Speaker 4: giving the eye a break from the product every now
[35:33] Speaker 4: and then was a good idea. He thought, you know,
[35:35] Speaker 4: he said, we want to confuse the eye is what
[35:37] Speaker 4: he said to me. You know, just kind of mixing
[35:40] Speaker 4: it up a little bit so the eye can find
[35:41] Speaker 4: its optimal balance. And we recommend that to all of
[35:46] Speaker 4: our customers still to this day.
[35:49] Speaker 2: And again, if you're taking the eye drops for the
[35:52] Speaker 2: first time, how long would you say it will take
[35:55] Speaker 2: before you see that improvement?
[35:57] Speaker 4: Well, initial improvements typically within 90 days. You're going to
[36:00] Speaker 4: notice something. Now, the initial improvements may not be cataract reversal,
[36:05] Speaker 4: but your eye is being supported so beautifully that your
[36:09] Speaker 4: focusing response improves. Your eyes just feel happier. And so
[36:13] Speaker 4: and it's really checking that sugar index in the eye,
[36:16] Speaker 4: you know, so you're focusing everything gets better. So I've
[36:19] Speaker 4: had people call me weeks later and say, Oh, I
[36:21] Speaker 4: think my cataracts going away. Well, no, you're looking more
[36:24] Speaker 4: at a six month effort to really start seeing improvement
[36:28] Speaker 4: in in the depth of the cataract or the density
[36:31] Speaker 4: of the cataract, if you will. But you will gain
[36:33] Speaker 4: other visual improvements, you know, earlier than that. And, of course,
[36:37] Speaker 4: once you've really achieved good results, then you're down to
[36:40] Speaker 4: maybe one drop a day just to maintain. We call
[36:43] Speaker 4: it our maintenance dose. And, again, taking a little break
[36:47] Speaker 4: every now and then. If you're going on vacation for
[36:49] Speaker 4: a week, don't use your Can-C or your Oclemed for
[36:52] Speaker 4: that week. And then start up again because that changing
[36:55] Speaker 4: it up really improves the long-term outcome of use of
[36:58] Speaker 4: the product.
[36:59] Speaker 2: Yeah. And that goes across the board for fitness or
[37:02] Speaker 2: anything else. You got to change that routine.
[37:04] Speaker 4: I know I'm singing to the choir with your audience.
[37:07] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Well, we hope everybody and that's sometimes reinforcement
[37:10] Speaker 2: is what is what really helps. And folks, if you'd

[37:47] Speaker 2: and a few final thoughts on keeping your vision strong

[37:52] Speaker 2: listening to Health Talk America, and we'll be right back.
[37:59] Speaker 2: I'm Dr. Adam Brockman, host of Health Talk America, the
[38:02] Speaker 2: nation's number one health talk radio show. And today, I
[38:05] Speaker 2: want to talk to men who are watching their hair
[38:07] Speaker 2: disappear and wondering if anything actually works. Here's what I
[38:11] Speaker 2: tell my listeners. The science on hair loss is solid,
[38:14] Speaker 2: and Lock Lab has put it all in one daily pill.

[38:59] Speaker 2: started today. And welcome back to the final segment of
[39:13] Speaker 2: this hour of Health Talk America. I'm Dr. Adam Brockman,
[39:16] Speaker 2: and I'm still here with Leslie Burke, vision health expert
[39:19] Speaker 2: and the CEO of Wise Choice Medicine. Leslie, we covered
[39:24] Speaker 2: a great deal in this hour, how N-acetylcarnosine eye drops,
[39:28] Speaker 2: they came about, what the research suggests, and how to
[39:31] Speaker 2: use them in the importance of working alongside your eye doctor.
[39:36] Speaker 2: And before we let you go, I have one last question.
[39:38] Speaker 2: If a listener could do just one thing to protect
[39:41] Speaker 2: their vision for the long term, what would it be?
[39:45] Speaker 4: Well, I think checking your stress levels, you know, is
[39:50] Speaker 4: very important. And in this world, I know that's a
[39:52] Speaker 4: tall order. It's impossible. We live in a very stressful world.
[39:55] Speaker 4: But I've had experience with people who've been caring for
[39:59] Speaker 4: a loved one for a long time and they end
[40:00] Speaker 4: up with retinal detachment afterwards. That cortisol protection in the,
[40:05] Speaker 4: you know, from the pineal gland really wreaks havoc on
[40:10] Speaker 4: our eyes. Cortisol is synthesized through the retina. So it's
[40:15] Speaker 4: very important to kind of think about that third eye, pray,
[40:18] Speaker 4: do what you need to do, but watch that stress
[40:22] Speaker 4: level because it is a killer. And then the second
[40:24] Speaker 4: one would be, of course, sugars, carbohydrates, glucose, you know,
[40:29] Speaker 4: those are the enemy. We get more calls for people
[40:32] Speaker 4: with serious eye problems right after Christmas than any other
[40:37] Speaker 4: time of the year. So, you know, you notice that
[40:39] Speaker 4: some mornings you wake up and you feel like your
[40:41] Speaker 4: vision looks pretty good today. And then sometimes you wake
[40:43] Speaker 4: up and you think, what the heck is the matter
[40:45] Speaker 4: with my eyes? Well, think about what you ate the
[40:46] Speaker 4: night before. It's probably a piece of cake before bed
[40:49] Speaker 4: or something. So those are two real big preventive tips.
[40:54] Speaker 4: And of course, using Can-Z and Aquamed to give you
[40:58] Speaker 4: that extra boost to protect your vision for the rest
[41:00] Speaker 4: of your life.
[41:01] Speaker 2: Well, there you go. Sugar and stress. That's a good
[41:04] Speaker 2: place to start to try to reduce those and use
[41:07] Speaker 2: Can-C and Aclamed when you need to. So I couldn't
[41:11] Speaker 2: set it better. Get the exam, feed your eyes and
[41:13] Speaker 2: protect them. Your eyes, they'll give you decades of service.
[41:17] Speaker 2: All you got to do in return is, you know, again,
[41:20] Speaker 2: get that exam, eat some spinach and some drops for
[41:23] Speaker 2: protection when you need it. Leslie, thanks again for joining us,
