[1:07] Speaker 1: free number to call with your health related question or
[1:10] Speaker 1: to make a health related comment is eight hundred six
[1:14] Speaker 1: zero six eighty eight twenty two. Eight hundred six zero
[1:18] Speaker 1: six eighty eight twenty two. That's eight hundred six zero
[1:23] Speaker 1: six eighty eight twenty two. This is Health Talk America.
[1:27] Speaker 2: Well, hello and welcome to Health Talk America. I'm doctor
[1:31] Speaker 2: Adam Brockman, and I'm flying solo with you this hour,
[1:35] Speaker 2: which means it's just us, So I want you to
[1:37] Speaker 2: buckle up. I want to start with something that happened
[1:41] Speaker 2: in my clinic recently, because it's the exactly that moment,
[1:46] Speaker 2: that kind of moment that reminds me why we do
[1:49] Speaker 2: this show every single week. I had a patient came
[1:52] Speaker 2: in mid forties, active and thinks of herself as healthy,
[1:58] Speaker 2: but she was frustrated. She's read three different headlines the
[2:03] Speaker 2: same morning on three different apps that seem to contradict
[2:07] Speaker 2: each other. One said that a certain medication was a miracle,
[2:12] Speaker 2: one said it was a risk, one said a totally
[2:17] Speaker 2: unrelated habit was secretly hurting her heart. So she looked
[2:21] Speaker 2: at me and said, doctor Brockman, I don't know what
[2:25] Speaker 2: to believe anymore. I just want someone to tell me
[2:29] Speaker 2: what's actually true, and that right there is the entire
[2:35] Speaker 2: reason that this show exists. Because health information today it
[2:40] Speaker 2: doesn't come to you in context. It comes to you
[2:44] Speaker 2: in fragments, algorithm sorted and they're stripped of nuanced, and
[2:50] Speaker 2: they're designed to grab your attention for six seconds and
[2:54] Speaker 2: then vanish, so you're left holding a headline with no
[2:58] Speaker 2: idea what to do with it. It's not information, that's
[3:02] Speaker 2: noise that's stressed up as information. So every week we
[3:07] Speaker 2: like to do something different on the show. Let's slow
[3:11] Speaker 2: down and walk through the headlines ourselves together. I want
[3:16] Speaker 2: to give you the context, the skepticism, and yes, occasionally
[3:21] Speaker 2: the enthusiasm that those six seconds scrolls just never gave you.
[3:27] Speaker 2: Think of it as a headline triage. We take the
[3:31] Speaker 2: noise and we turn it into something that you can
[3:34] Speaker 2: actually use. And if today's tour leaves you wanting the
[3:39] Speaker 2: fuller story on any of these topics, and I suspect
[3:43] Speaker 2: at least some of them will, that's exactly what Health
[3:47] Speaker 2: Talk America is built for. Again, it's Healthtalkamerica dot com.
[3:52] Speaker 2: Every headline that we cover, every study we reference, it's
[3:57] Speaker 2: there and it's waiting whenever you want to go a
[4:00] Speaker 2: little bit deeper than the time on the show allows,
[4:03] Speaker 2: it's Healthtalkamerica dot Com. And I also encourage you to
[4:07] Speaker 2: call in with your own health related questions or comments.
[4:11] Speaker 2: The number into the show is eight hundred six zero
[4:14] Speaker 2: six eight eight two to two. Again, it's eight hundred
[4:17] Speaker 2: six zero six eight a two to two, or head
[4:20] Speaker 2: over to Healthtalkamerica dot com. So let's go ahead and
[4:25] Speaker 2: get into it with our health headlines this week. Our
[4:36] Speaker 2: first headline, America's death rate just hit its lowest point
[4:41] Speaker 2: on record. So I want you just sit with that
[4:43] Speaker 2: for a second, because it's easy to breeze past a
[4:46] Speaker 2: statistic like this. The overall death rate in this country
[4:50] Speaker 2: has fallen to the lowest level ever recorded. It's driven
[4:54] Speaker 2: largely by a meaningful decline in overdose debts. That is
[5:00] Speaker 2: good news, and it deserves to be said out loud
[5:03] Speaker 2: because we spend so much energy talking about what's going wrong,
[5:09] Speaker 2: then sometimes we forget to notice what's going right. So
[5:12] Speaker 2: my take this is proof that public awareness, expanded treatment access,
[5:19] Speaker 2: and people simply talking more openly about addiction actually moves
[5:24] Speaker 2: that needle. We know, heart disease and cancer. They remain
[5:28] Speaker 2: the top two killers, which tells you exactly where our
[5:32] Speaker 2: personal prevention energy needs to be going. But an overdose
[5:36] Speaker 2: decline at this type of scale is a real It's
[5:40] Speaker 2: a hard one win. Okay, next headline it keeps staying
[5:45] Speaker 2: in the headlines. It's the GLP one medications have gone
[5:49] Speaker 2: from niche to mainstream, and it happened fast. So these
[5:53] Speaker 2: new polls show that roughly fifteen percent of American adults
[5:58] Speaker 2: have now used a GOLP one medication for weight loss,
[6:02] Speaker 2: and that's up sharply from just a couple of years ago.
[6:05] Speaker 2: Alongside that climb, the national obesity rate is actually ticking
[6:10] Speaker 2: downward for the first time in a very long time.
[6:14] Speaker 2: So here's what I think, and I'll be direct. These
[6:17] Speaker 2: drugs they're a tool, not a substitute, for the foundation.
[6:21] Speaker 2: And when I say foundation, I mean movement, whole foods, sleep,
[6:25] Speaker 2: stress management. But when the glp ones are used responsibly
[6:30] Speaker 2: under medical guidance, they're helping millions of people get a
[6:34] Speaker 2: foothold they couldn't get otherwise. So the real story isn't
[6:39] Speaker 2: the drug. It's that we finally have a population level
[6:43] Speaker 2: intervention that's working in the right direction, and that ripples
[6:47] Speaker 2: into heart disease, diabetes, joint health and everything else downstream.
[6:54] Speaker 2: Next up, we have gum disease, maybe doing more damaged
[6:57] Speaker 2: than your dentist ever warned you about. Out there's new
[7:01] Speaker 2: research is drawing a direct link between paradontal disease and
[7:05] Speaker 2: calcified a ortic valve stenosis, and that's hardening of the
[7:10] Speaker 2: hearts valve and that's through bacterial driven inflammation. So in
[7:16] Speaker 2: plain English, the bacteria that's living in inflamed gums may
[7:21] Speaker 2: be quietly contributing to a serious heart condition. And I've
[7:25] Speaker 2: said this before on the show, and I'll say it again.
[7:28] Speaker 3: Your mouth is.
[7:29] Speaker 2: Not a separate organ system from the rest of your body. Inflammation,
[7:33] Speaker 2: it doesn't respect borders. It if you're putting off that
[7:39] Speaker 2: dental cleaning off or changing up your habits, this is
[7:42] Speaker 2: your sign. And this is what we talk about on
[7:44] Speaker 2: the show often why we recommend the Spry dental defense
[7:48] Speaker 2: system that's powered by xylotol. And I'm talking about the toothpaste,
[7:52] Speaker 2: the gum, the mints, the mouth rens. All of that
[7:55] Speaker 2: helps to control that gateway which is your mouth. And
[7:59] Speaker 2: also kay O Lick, the heart formulas, the cardiovascular formulas
[8:03] Speaker 2: which helped to guard your heart in your vascular system.
[8:07] Speaker 2: You know, go look those up on our website Hell
[8:09] Speaker 2: Talk America. They're both great products to add to your arsenal.
[8:15] Speaker 2: Up next, and this one made me smile. It's the
[8:17] Speaker 2: scent of chocolate may improve your workout. Researchers found that
[8:23] Speaker 2: participants who simply inhaled the aroma of chocolate, no eating involved,
[8:29] Speaker 2: performed more repetitions during exercise in a reported feeling less
[8:34] Speaker 2: hungry afterwards. So I'm not prescribing a chocolate bar for
[8:38] Speaker 2: your next gym session. But this is a fun reminder
[8:42] Speaker 2: that health isn't only macros and mileage. It's that the
[8:46] Speaker 2: mind is involved in every decision that your body makes.
[8:51] Speaker 2: Next headline, we got Measles are climbing again in the
[8:55] Speaker 2: vaccination gaps may be the driver, so we're on pace
[8:59] Speaker 2: to exceed last year's measles the amount of cases nationwide,
[9:05] Speaker 2: and that's concentrating communities with lower vaccination coverage. So I'll
[9:09] Speaker 2: stay squarely in the scientific lane here. Measles is one
[9:14] Speaker 2: of the most contagious diseases known to medicine, and coverage
[9:17] Speaker 2: above ninety five percent in a community is what keeps
[9:21] Speaker 2: outbreaks from taking hold. So this isn't about politics, It's
[9:26] Speaker 2: about the math in the immunology. If you have questions
[9:31] Speaker 2: about vaccination for your family, that's a conversation worth having
[9:35] Speaker 2: with your physician, and finally a global lens. The World
[9:40] Speaker 2: Health Organization is projecting new cancer cases worldwide could nearly
[9:45] Speaker 2: double by twenty fifty, with a huge disparity in survival
[9:51] Speaker 2: between high income and lower income regions, and nearly forty
[9:55] Speaker 2: percent of these cases are tied to preventable risk factors.
[10:00] Speaker 2: We're talking tobacco, infections, obesity among some of these risk factors.
[10:07] Speaker 2: So that statistics should sit with you the same way
[10:10] Speaker 2: our first headline did, but point the other direction. It's
[10:15] Speaker 2: a call to action, not a call for despair. Prevention
[10:21] Speaker 2: is still overwhelmingly in our hands.
[10:25] Speaker 3: Now coming up.
[10:25] Speaker 2: Later this hour, we've got our health Alternative of the week.
[10:29] Speaker 2: It's a natural approach that's worth putting on your radar.
[10:32] Speaker 2: And later one of our health mysteries, the kind of
[10:36] Speaker 2: case that sounds almost unbelievable until you hear.
[10:39] Speaker 3: The science behind it.
[10:40] Speaker 2: Trust me, you'll want to stick around for both of those.
[10:43] Speaker 3: You don't want to miss either one.
[10:45] Speaker 2: But right now we've got to take a break, so
[10:47] Speaker 2: I which is stay with us Health Talk America will
[10:50] Speaker 2: be right back. Doctor Adam Brockman here, You've heard us
[11:02] Speaker 2: say it before. Your mouth is the gateway to your
[11:05] Speaker 2: body's health. But what if your dental problems could actually
[11:08] Speaker 2: be repaired, not just patched. If you're struggling with painful gums,
[11:14] Speaker 2: jawbone loss, implant failure, are chronic dental infections, don't settle
[11:18] Speaker 2: for more drilling or medications that just mask the problem.
[11:22] Speaker 2: At American Holistic Care Center, healing starts from the inside out.
[11:27] Speaker 2: Imagine regenerating healthy gum and bone tissue, eliminating toxic materials,
[11:33] Speaker 2: in restoring balance to your entire body, starting with your smile.
[11:37] Speaker 2: Call now to schedule your consultation at eight seven seven
[11:41] Speaker 2: two zero seven zero eight two four. That's eight seven
[11:45] Speaker 2: seven two zero seven zero eight two four, or visit
[11:49] Speaker 2: Americanholisticcare dot com because your smile is more than cosmetic,
[11:55] Speaker 2: it's a reflection of your whole body health. American Holistic
[11:59] Speaker 2: Care dot com and we are back on Health Talk America.
[12:42] Speaker 2: I'm doctor Adam Brockman. I'm solo at the microphone this hour,
[12:46] Speaker 2: and I appreciate you writing along with me. If you're
[12:49] Speaker 2: just tuning in or you want to revisit anything that
[12:52] Speaker 2: we've already covered. Remember, Healthtalkamerica dot com is always open.
[12:58] Speaker 2: That's the place that you go to when you want
[13:00] Speaker 2: to dive a little bit deeper behind anything that you
[13:03] Speaker 2: hear in this hour. Again, that's Healthtalkamerica dot com. Also
[13:08] Speaker 2: to leave your health related question or comment, you can
[13:11] Speaker 2: dial in our toll free hotline, which is eight hundred
[13:14] Speaker 2: six zero six eight eight two two. That's eight hundred
[13:17] Speaker 2: six zero six eight eight two two. All right, Speaking
[13:22] Speaker 2: of things worth a deeper dive, with another dominated headline,
[13:26] Speaker 2: I want to talk about something that's become one of
[13:30] Speaker 2: the more significant food stories of this year, and it's
[13:34] Speaker 2: called cyclosporasis, and right now it's spreading across more states
[13:42] Speaker 2: than most outbreaks ever reached. So let's start with what
[13:46] Speaker 2: it actually is. Cyclosporasis is caused by a microscopic parasite.
[13:53] Speaker 2: So it's not a virus, it's not a bacteria. It's
[13:56] Speaker 2: a single celled parasite that gets into your almost always
[14:01] Speaker 2: through contaminated food or water, most commonly fresh produce. And
[14:07] Speaker 2: this year, health departments across the Midwest, Michigan and Ohio
[14:12] Speaker 2: especially have seen cases climb into the thousands, spreading into
[14:18] Speaker 2: more than thirty states total. So to put that in perspective,
[14:23] Speaker 2: a typical year sees a small handful of cases in
[14:28] Speaker 2: any given state this year. The numbers aren't just elevated,
[14:33] Speaker 2: they're a different order of magnitude entirely. So a quick
[14:39] Speaker 2: word on why this particular parasite is so tricky. Unlike
[14:43] Speaker 2: many food borne pathogens that show up fast and hit hard,
[14:47] Speaker 2: Cyclospora has an incubation period that can stretch out for
[14:51] Speaker 2: a week or more before those symptoms even begin. So
[14:56] Speaker 2: that delay is part of what makes the outbreaks this
[15:00] Speaker 2: so hard to trace. By the time someone gets sick,
[15:03] Speaker 2: they've often forgotten exactly what they ate a week and
[15:06] Speaker 2: a half earlier, so investigatators they have to reconstruct a
[15:11] Speaker 2: person's diet, almost like a memory exercise, so they cross
[15:16] Speaker 2: reference it against dozens of other patients to find this
[15:19] Speaker 2: common threat. It's slow, it's methodical, and it's part of
[15:24] Speaker 2: why identifying this exact source of an outbreak like this
[15:28] Speaker 2: it can take weeks rather than days. Now here's why
[15:32] Speaker 2: I want to frame this as a family story and
[15:35] Speaker 2: not just a headline, because this is exactly the kind
[15:38] Speaker 2: of outbreak that catches households off guard. It doesn't announce itself.
[15:43] Speaker 2: Nobody thinks about parasites when they're making a salad for
[15:47] Speaker 2: dinner or packing lunch for the kids. But that bag
[15:51] Speaker 2: of pre washed greens, the container of fresh herbs, that
[15:56] Speaker 2: salad bar at the grocery store, any of it could
[15:59] Speaker 2: be this vector. And the frustrating truth is that health
[16:04] Speaker 2: investigators are still working to pin down the exact source
[16:08] Speaker 2: that's actually normal in outbreaks like this, tracing us to
[16:12] Speaker 2: this parasite back through the supply chain, farm by farm
[16:16] Speaker 2: or shipment by shipment. It can take time, but normal
[16:20] Speaker 2: doesn't mean that you should wait around and not protect
[16:24] Speaker 2: your family. So what does this look like if it
[16:27] Speaker 2: hits your household. The symptoms are unmistakably there once they start,
[16:34] Speaker 2: So we're talking about watery diarrhea sometimes described as explosive diarrhea,
[16:40] Speaker 2: along with the loss of appetite, crampy nausea, fatigue in
[16:45] Speaker 2: a low grade fever. So here's the part that catches
[16:48] Speaker 2: people off guards. These symptoms can wax and wane, so
[16:52] Speaker 2: you may feel better for a day and think that
[16:55] Speaker 2: you've turned a corner, and then it comes right back.
[16:58] Speaker 2: So left untreated illness can drag on for weeks and
[17:02] Speaker 2: in some cases, over a month. So that's not a
[17:05] Speaker 2: stomach bug that you power through with ginger rail or crackers.
[17:10] Speaker 2: That's a level of gi distress and disruption that can
[17:14] Speaker 2: genuinely do rail a family's routine. We're talking about miss work,
[17:19] Speaker 2: missed school, dehydration risk for younger kids and older relatives especially,
[17:25] Speaker 2: and because the fatigue associated with this illness can be profound.
[17:30] Speaker 2: Often those who assume that they would simply just run
[17:35] Speaker 2: down or they were stressed, when in fact the body
[17:37] Speaker 2: was finding out a parasitic infection for weeks without them
[17:40] Speaker 2: even realizing it. So the good news, it's treatable and
[17:45] Speaker 2: it's rarely life threatening. A course of antibiotics it clears
[17:50] Speaker 2: it effectively. In most cases, hospitalizations have occurred primarily related
[17:57] Speaker 2: to dehydration, but remain rare. So it's not a panic story.
[18:04] Speaker 2: This is a preparedness story. So here's my advice for
[18:09] Speaker 2: your family in plain terms. First, wash your produce, even
[18:14] Speaker 2: the pre washed stuff. I know that sounds redundant, but
[18:18] Speaker 2: this parasite is notoriously resistant to a quick rent. It
[18:22] Speaker 2: can survive on the surface of leafy greens and herbs
[18:26] Speaker 2: even after commercial washing because its outer shell is built
[18:31] Speaker 2: to withstand exactly that kind of light exposure. So a
[18:34] Speaker 2: thorough rents under running water, a gentle scrub on firmer
[18:39] Speaker 2: produce is your best defense, and for particularly delicate greens
[18:45] Speaker 2: or herbs, a cold water soap followed by a rents
[18:48] Speaker 2: adds another layer of protection. Second, if anyone in your
[18:53] Speaker 2: household develops watery diarrhea that persists more than a couple
[18:58] Speaker 2: of days, especially on side fatigue or low grade fever,
[19:03] Speaker 2: don't just wait it out. See a physician and mentioned
[19:06] Speaker 2: that this outbreak that you've read about or heard about
[19:11] Speaker 2: because standard stool tests don't always catch this parasite on
[19:15] Speaker 2: the first try. It sometimes takes a specific request to
[19:18] Speaker 2: the lab using specialized straining techniques designed to identify it.
[19:26] Speaker 2: And third, hydration is your frontline defense while you're waiting
[19:31] Speaker 2: for treatment to take hold. So electrolyte replacement and not
[19:35] Speaker 2: just water. Of course, increase your water and this is
[19:38] Speaker 2: especially true for kids and older adults, whose smaller reserves
[19:43] Speaker 2: make them more vulnerable to this rapid fluid loss. So
[19:47] Speaker 2: here's the bigger picture in the lesson I want to
[19:51] Speaker 2: walk away with. This outbreak is a reminder that food
[19:54] Speaker 2: safety isn't someone else's job. Yes, it's the response ability
[20:00] Speaker 2: of the farms and the grocery stores, or the regulators.
[20:03] Speaker 2: They all have a role in this, but you do
[20:05] Speaker 2: as well, so it's also a household habit. The families
[20:10] Speaker 2: who come through outbreak seasons in particular this with the
[20:15] Speaker 2: least disruption are usually the ones who built those food
[20:20] Speaker 2: safety instincts into their kitchen routine long before an outbreak.
[20:25] Speaker 3: Ever, makes this news.
[20:27] Speaker 2: So wash produce, thoroughly, store it properly, pay attention when
[20:31] Speaker 2: something tastes or smells off.
[20:34] Speaker 3: Trust your gut.
[20:35] Speaker 2: Literally, when your body's telling you something's wrong, pay attention.
[20:40] Speaker 2: So I also want to say this clearly. If you
[20:45] Speaker 2: or your family member gets sick and you believe it
[20:47] Speaker 2: may be linked to a specific product, a store or restaurant,
[20:51] Speaker 2: report it to your local health department. I know this
[20:55] Speaker 2: feels like an extra step when you're not feeling well,
[20:58] Speaker 2: but that's exactly how investigators eventually trace outbreaks back to
[21:03] Speaker 2: the source, one household, one report at a time. So
[21:07] Speaker 2: you're not just a patient in the story. You're part
[21:10] Speaker 2: of how it gets solved. In every report adds a
[21:15] Speaker 2: point data to this, and it could be connecting those
[21:19] Speaker 2: dots for investigators.
[21:21] Speaker 3: So keep this on your radar this summer.
[21:23] Speaker 2: It's not the outbreak that makes headlines like a pandemic does,
[21:27] Speaker 2: but for the families, it touches, and it's absolutely real,
[21:32] Speaker 2: and it's absolutely disruptive, and a little extra villigence this
[21:36] Speaker 2: summer in your kitchen could spare your household weeks of misery.
[21:42] Speaker 2: All Right, We've got more ahead this hour, including our
[21:44] Speaker 2: health alternative of the week and a health mystery you
[21:47] Speaker 2: don't want to miss. But first let's take a quick break.
[21:50] Speaker 2: Stay right there. Health Talk America is coming right back.
[21:53] Speaker 2: I'm doctor Adam Brockman.
[22:13] Speaker 3: And welcome back to Health Talk America.

[22:19] Speaker 2: with us, I'm glad to have you here. A reminder
[22:22] Speaker 2: that everything we talk about on this show, this hour,

[22:30] Speaker 2: stand behind, you can revisit anytime at Healthtalkamerica dot com.
[22:36] Speaker 3: It's there.
[22:37] Speaker 2: It's built for exactly the kind of follow up questions
[22:41] Speaker 2: that this hour tends to generate. It's Healthtalkamerica dot com
[22:44] Speaker 2: and you can also leave a health related question or
[22:47] Speaker 2: comment there or through our hotline, which is eight hundred
[22:51] Speaker 2: six zero six eight A two two and it's eight
[22:54] Speaker 2: hundred six zero six AA two two. Now, before we
[22:59] Speaker 2: get to our health alternative of the week, I want
[23:02] Speaker 2: to take a moment to talk about something a lot
[23:04] Speaker 2: of men deal with quietly and don't always get good
[23:08] Speaker 2: answers for. You know, one of the things I take
[23:11] Speaker 2: seriously on the show is putting my name behind something.
[23:15] Speaker 3: That I actually believe in.
[23:17] Speaker 2: I endorse products because I've looked at the science, i
[23:21] Speaker 2: understand the ingredients, and I believe it genuinely helps people.
[23:26] Speaker 2: So when I tell you about lock Lab today, I
[23:29] Speaker 2: want you to understand that's exactly where I'm coming from.
[23:33] Speaker 2: Hair Loss affects roughly two thirds of men by age
[23:37] Speaker 2: thirty five, two out of three, and what I've seen
[23:41] Speaker 2: over the years, both in my practice and from listeners
[23:45] Speaker 2: who call in, is that most guys either give up
[23:49] Speaker 2: or they accept it, or they go chasing gimmicks. I'm
[23:52] Speaker 2: talking shampoos and topical sprays and gummy vitamins that do
[23:57] Speaker 2: absolutely nothing. They money, they feel frustrated, and they stop
[24:03] Speaker 2: believing anything works. Here's the problem with that approach. The
[24:08] Speaker 2: real science on hair loss has been available for decades.
[24:12] Speaker 2: We know what causes male pattern the hair loss it's DHT,
[24:17] Speaker 2: a derivative of testosterone that attacks the hair follicle over time,
[24:22] Speaker 2: and we know the clinically proven compounds that stop it.
[24:27] Speaker 2: The challenge has always been that nobody combine them properly
[24:32] Speaker 2: in a single a convenient and.
[24:34] Speaker 3: Affordable treatment until lock Lab.
[24:37] Speaker 2: Lock Lab is a once daily pill with three active
[24:41] Speaker 2: ingredients that work together. Vinesteride at one point one milligrams.
[24:47] Speaker 2: That's actually a slightly higher dose than you'll find in
[24:51] Speaker 2: most generic formulations, and it directly blocks DHT at the source.
[24:56] Speaker 2: It stops the hormone from doing the damn in the
[25:00] Speaker 2: first place. Oral monoxidil is at five milligrams in lock lab,
[25:05] Speaker 2: and that increases blood flow and oxygen in nutrient delivery
[25:11] Speaker 2: directly to the hair follicle, and oral monoxidil has been
[25:15] Speaker 2: shown to be significantly more effective than topical versions that
[25:20] Speaker 2: people have tried for years. And bioten at one milligram
[25:26] Speaker 2: rounds out the formula to support hair structure, the thickness, and.
[25:30] Speaker 3: The overall follicle health.
[25:32] Speaker 2: Lock Lab is ninety seven percent effective at stopping further
[25:36] Speaker 2: hair loss and ninety percent effective at producing visible improvement
[25:41] Speaker 2: and hair coverage. Those aren't marketing numbers. Those are clinically
[25:45] Speaker 2: significant and clinically studied numbers, and most men they see
[25:50] Speaker 2: meaningful results between three to six months. And the price
[25:54] Speaker 2: is thirty five dollars a month with free shipping. It's
[25:58] Speaker 2: prescribed by a US license physician, and it's online, so
[26:02] Speaker 2: no awkward office visits required. You fill out a quick questionnaire,
[26:07] Speaker 2: a doctor reviews it, and it gets shipped to your door.
[26:10] Speaker 2: So if you're a man who's been watching the hairline
[26:13] Speaker 2: move the wrong direction and you've been waiting for something
[26:16] Speaker 2: that actually works, this is it. I've looked at the ingredients,
[26:20] Speaker 2: I've looked at the clinical data, and Locklab has earned
[26:23] Speaker 2: my recommendation. Go to locklab dot Co. That's Locklab dot
[26:29] Speaker 2: co and take the two minute consultation today your future hairline. Well,
[26:35] Speaker 2: thank you again, lock Lab spelled l ock lab dot
[26:41] Speaker 2: co for lock Lab today. All right, let's go ahead
[26:46] Speaker 2: and shift gears and get to our health alternative of
[26:48] Speaker 2: the week. I get asked about this constantly, especially when
[27:03] Speaker 2: dealing with colds or sinus infections and stubborn bugs and
[27:08] Speaker 2: now parasites. They start making their rounds and people ask,
[27:12] Speaker 2: what can you do about it? Well My health alternative
[27:15] Speaker 2: of the week is a regano oil. Now, I want
[27:18] Speaker 2: to be precise here because aregno oil gets thrown around
[27:22] Speaker 2: casually as a cure all and that's not how I
[27:26] Speaker 2: want to present it to you. What I want to
[27:28] Speaker 2: talk about is the actual science behind why this has
[27:31] Speaker 2: earned a real seat at the table in natural antimicrobial support.
[27:37] Speaker 2: The active compound doing the heavy lifting is called kervola
[27:41] Speaker 2: crawl and oregano oil, particularly oil derived from wild Mediterranean oregano,
[27:48] Speaker 2: can contain anywhere from sixty to eighty percent of this
[27:53] Speaker 2: curvaricrawl concentration, and that compound has been studied for its
[27:57] Speaker 2: ability to disrupt the cell and brains a certain bacteria,
[28:01] Speaker 2: essentially compromising their structural integrity. There's also research that look
[28:07] Speaker 2: at the activity against some anti biotic the resistance strains,
[28:13] Speaker 2: which is exactly why it's earned the nickname the natural
[28:16] Speaker 2: antibiotic in the wellness circles. Though I want to be
[28:21] Speaker 2: careful with that label because it's not a replacement for
[28:24] Speaker 2: prescribed antibiotics when you have a serious bacterial infection. The
[28:29] Speaker 2: context matters here where I see the best use in
[28:33] Speaker 2: the best case for regular oil is that the earliest
[28:36] Speaker 2: signs of something brewing. You're talking about that scratchy throat,
[28:40] Speaker 2: the first signs of sinus pressure, in that feeling that
[28:44] Speaker 2: you're about to go down. Used at that right moment there,
[28:48] Speaker 2: in the right form, it can be a useful tool
[28:52] Speaker 2: in your defense arsenal. So a few practical notes if
[28:56] Speaker 2: you want to try it. First, look for the product
[28:58] Speaker 2: that specifies its carvaricrawl percentage on the label. That's your
[29:03] Speaker 2: marker for potency and quality. Second, regual oil is potent,
[29:07] Speaker 2: and I mean very potent, and it should never be
[29:11] Speaker 2: taken undiluted. Most quality products come pre diluted in a
[29:16] Speaker 2: carrier form, as in an enterra coded capsule designed to
[29:21] Speaker 2: survive stomach acid and release further down in the digestive track,
[29:25] Speaker 2: which is genuinely the form I recommend for internal use.
[29:29] Speaker 2: And Third, and this is not something to take indefinitely.
[29:33] Speaker 2: Short courses the typical five to ten days are the
[29:38] Speaker 2: standard approach, and it's similar to how you think about
[29:41] Speaker 2: a course of antibiotics. So a word of caution here.
[29:46] Speaker 2: Reginal oil can interact with blood thinners and certain medications,
[29:49] Speaker 2: and it's not appropriate during pregnancy. And as always, if
[29:54] Speaker 2: you're on prescription medications or managing a chronic condition. Loop
[29:58] Speaker 2: in your physician before adding to your routine. But for
[30:01] Speaker 2: most listeners dealing with seasonal bugs, the run of the mill,
[30:06] Speaker 2: sizus irritation, or the parasite that's hidden in the pantry.
[30:11] Speaker 2: And this is a way to support your body's natural
[30:14] Speaker 2: defenses without reaching immediately for the pharmacy shelf. A regular oil,
[30:20] Speaker 2: when used correctly, is one of the most evidenced based
[30:24] Speaker 2: tools nature has handed us. It's not flashy, it's not new,
[30:28] Speaker 2: but it's earned its place in my own recommendations for
[30:32] Speaker 2: a reason.
[30:33] Speaker 3: A regue oil.
[30:33] Speaker 2: This has been this week's health alternative of the week,
[30:37] Speaker 2: and keep it in your back pocket for the next
[30:39] Speaker 2: time something's trying to knock you down. And we've got
[30:42] Speaker 2: more on Health Talk America coming up right after the break,
[30:45] Speaker 2: So don't go anywhere.
[30:46] Speaker 3: We'll be right back.

[34:18] Speaker 2: Today we're going to get into a mystery, a health mystery,

[34:39] Speaker 2: at our hotline which is eight hundred six or O
[34:42] Speaker 2: six eight A two two. Again, it's eight hundred six
[34:45] Speaker 2: zero six eight A two two. Okay, this next story
[34:48] Speaker 2: involves something that sounds almost impossible. People who wake up
[34:54] Speaker 2: one day speaking in an accent that isn't theirs. It's
[34:58] Speaker 2: an accent that they've never had from a place that
[35:01] Speaker 2: they probably never even visited. So let's go ahead and
[35:05] Speaker 2: get into this week's health mystery. It's about a woman
[35:13] Speaker 2: who woke up speaking French, without speaking French. So I
[35:18] Speaker 2: want you to imagine going to sleep sounding exactly like yourself,
[35:21] Speaker 2: and waking up sounding like you've spent your entire life
[35:25] Speaker 2: somewhere else.
[35:26] Speaker 3: Entirely. It's not a joke, This isn't a put on.
[35:30] Speaker 2: It's an accent so convincing that friends and family genuinely
[35:35] Speaker 2: don't even recognize your voice. That's exactly what happened to
[35:39] Speaker 2: a woman in Texas years ago who suffered a severe migraine,
[35:44] Speaker 2: and when she came out of it, was speaking with
[35:48] Speaker 2: what sounded unmistakenly like a British accent. She never lived
[35:52] Speaker 2: in the UK, never studied there, had no connection to
[35:57] Speaker 2: the UK whatsoever.
[35:58] Speaker 3: And in a sept.
[36:01] Speaker 2: Documented case, this American woman recovering from a stroke began
[36:07] Speaker 2: speaking what sounded like a French accent, despite again having
[36:12] Speaker 2: no personal history with the language. Or the country of France.
[36:18] Speaker 2: This condition is called foreign accent syndrome, and it is
[36:22] Speaker 2: exactly as strange as it sounds. It's a medically recognized
[36:28] Speaker 2: neurological phenomenon. It is first formally described in the medical
[36:32] Speaker 2: literature dating back to the nineteen forties, and it's documented
[36:37] Speaker 2: in dozens of cases worldwide since then. Here's the mechanism,
[36:42] Speaker 2: and it's a beautiful illustration of just how precise and
[36:46] Speaker 2: specialized certain regions of the brain really are. So speech
[36:51] Speaker 2: isn't produced by one single speech center. There's different brain
[36:56] Speaker 2: regions that control the rhythm of your speech, the pitch,
[37:00] Speaker 2: the placement of your ton and lips, and the timing
[37:03] Speaker 2: between syllables, and the stress you place on certain sounds.
[37:09] Speaker 2: All of that combines to create what we recognize as
[37:13] Speaker 2: your unique accent. It's built up over a lifetime of
[37:17] Speaker 2: hearing and mimicking the speech patterns that are around you,
[37:21] Speaker 2: and when someone suffers damage to this, very specific areas
[37:25] Speaker 2: that are involved in that orchestration of your voice, often
[37:29] Speaker 2: from a stroke affecting a particular region of the frontal
[37:33] Speaker 2: or a temporal lobe, sometimes from a traumatic brain injury,
[37:39] Speaker 2: and occasionally remarkably triggered by nothing more than a severe
[37:44] Speaker 2: migraine episode, the brain can lose its fine motor control
[37:48] Speaker 2: over some of those speech components while others remain untouched.
[37:54] Speaker 2: The result isn't garbled or broken speech. It's often fluent,
[37:59] Speaker 2: even correct speech that's just produced with an altered rhythm,
[38:04] Speaker 2: an altered vowel placement, and an altered tone that the
[38:10] Speaker 2: pattern that listeners immediately interpret as a foreign accent because
[38:16] Speaker 2: the closest match their ear can find for that new
[38:20] Speaker 2: pattern coming from this individual that they've known probably their
[38:23] Speaker 2: whole life. And here's what I find most fascinating the
[38:28] Speaker 2: person experience. It isn't choosing an accent or faking one,
[38:33] Speaker 2: or even necessarily aware that anything has changed until someone
[38:37] Speaker 2: else points it out. Their brain has simply reorganized how
[38:42] Speaker 2: it's executing a skill that they've had since childhood, and
[38:46] Speaker 2: what comes out sounding foreign to everyone else around them,
[38:51] Speaker 2: including often to themselves when they hear a recording of
[38:55] Speaker 2: their own voice. Recovery varies considerably from case to case.
[39:01] Speaker 2: Some people regain their original speech pattern within weeks as
[39:05] Speaker 2: swelling from the injury subsides, or the brain reroutes that
[39:10] Speaker 2: function through nearby healthy tissue. Others carry that altered accent
[39:16] Speaker 2: for months, occasionally longer. In speech therapy focused on rhythm
[39:21] Speaker 2: and the tone patterns can help retrain some of that
[39:25] Speaker 2: lost precision. So I want to bring you this story
[39:28] Speaker 2: because it's just something that's profound about the identity in
[39:34] Speaker 2: the brain. So much of who we feel ourselves to
[39:40] Speaker 2: be is wrapped up in the sound of our own voice.
[39:43] Speaker 2: In foreign accent syndrome shows us just how fragile and
[39:47] Speaker 2: how specific that neurological wiring behind it really is a
[39:53] Speaker 2: handful of damaged cells in exactly the wrong spot in
[39:57] Speaker 2: a lifetime of familiar speech concent like someone else entirely,
[40:02] Speaker 2: while everything about the person underneath remains completely unchanged. It's
[40:08] Speaker 2: a powerful reminder of something we return to again again
[40:12] Speaker 2: on the show. The brain is not just one organ
[40:15] Speaker 2: doing its job. It's millions of tiny, specialized systems working
[40:20] Speaker 2: in this coordination, and sometimes illness reveals just how remarkable
[40:26] Speaker 2: that coordination really is. And by showing us exactly what
[40:30] Speaker 2: happens when one small piece shifts out of place, that
[40:34] Speaker 2: is the strange true story of foreign accent syndrome this
[40:40] Speaker 2: week's health mystery, and it's proof that the brain can
[40:42] Speaker 2: surprise us in wayte that are stranger than fiction. We've
[40:47] Speaker 2: got more to talk about here on health Talk America.
[40:50] Speaker 3: Coming up right after the.
[40:51] Speaker 2: Break, something big is happening, and I want you to
[41:07] Speaker 2: be the first to know. The Doctor Bob Martin Show,

[42:00] Speaker 2: Healthtalkamerica dot com today, and that's our hour here on
[42:26] Speaker 2: Health Talk America. It's been a great ride. We opened
[42:29] Speaker 2: with the health headlines, the good, the strange in those
[42:32] Speaker 2: that are important, from record low death rates to a
[42:36] Speaker 2: chocolate scented workout boost. We dug into the food safety
[42:41] Speaker 2: story that's been spreading through kitchens across the country, one
[42:45] Speaker 2: that I hope sends you straight to your sink to
[42:47] Speaker 2: give that lettuce and extra rents. Today we talked about
[42:51] Speaker 2: hair loss science, we talked.
[42:53] Speaker 3: Uh oregano oil.
[42:56] Speaker 2: Then we closed out with one of the strangest, one
[42:58] Speaker 2: of the truest medical mystery that is out there, proof
[43:02] Speaker 2: once again that the human body is capable of things
[43:05] Speaker 2: that are stranger than anything Hollywood could write. And if
[43:09] Speaker 2: any of this sparked questions for you, or you want
[43:12] Speaker 2: to go back and revisit a detail you have caught
[43:16] Speaker 2: while driving, remember Healthtalkamerica dot com is built exactly for that.
[43:22] Speaker 2: Healthtalkamerica dot com. Every story, every source, every reference from
[43:27] Speaker 2: the show lives there. It's waiting whenever curiosity strikes. I
[43:31] Speaker 2: also want to give our toll free hotline, which is
[43:34] Speaker 2: eight hundred six zero six eight eight two to two,
[43:37] Speaker 2: for your own health questions and comments that you have. Again,
[43:41] Speaker 2: that's eight hundred six zero six eight eight two to two.
[43:44] Speaker 2: I want to say something to you directly before we
[43:46] Speaker 2: wrap up, and that's thank you. Thank you for spending
[43:49] Speaker 2: this hour with me, for the questions that you send in,
[43:53] Speaker 2: for the stories that you share, and for trusting this
[43:56] Speaker 2: show to bring you real health information instead of just noise.
[44:00] Speaker 2: That trust is not something that I take lightly, and
[44:03] Speaker 2: it's the reason we keep doing this week after week. Now,
[44:07] Speaker 2: before I let you go, a quick health tip, and
[44:10] Speaker 2: this one takes less than a minute. It's called box
[44:14] Speaker 2: breathing and it's used by everyone from Navy seals to
[44:18] Speaker 2: surgeons to calm the nervous system on command. And here's
[44:22] Speaker 2: how it works. Breathe in slowly for account of four,
[44:26] Speaker 2: hold that breath for account of four, exhale slowly for
[44:30] Speaker 2: account of four, then hold again empty for account of four.
[44:35] Speaker 2: Repeat that cycle three or four times. What you're doing
[44:39] Speaker 2: is activating your vegus nerve and shifting your body out
[44:43] Speaker 2: of that low grade fight or flight state so many
[44:47] Speaker 2: of us live in without realizing it. And there's no equipment,
[44:51] Speaker 2: no app no cost, just sixty seconds anywhere, anytime you
[44:57] Speaker 2: feel your stress creeping out, box breathing. So that's my
[45:02] Speaker 2: challenge for you. Try one round of box breathing before
[45:06] Speaker 2: your next stressful moment. Today or this week, and notice
[45:10] Speaker 2: the difference. This has been health talk America. I'm doctor
[45:14] Speaker 2: Adam Brockman, and I'm grateful you spent this hour with me.
[45:17] Speaker 2: Keep the questions coming, keep paying attention to what your
[45:20] Speaker 2: body is telling you, and keep showing up for your
[45:23] Speaker 2: own health, because that consistency, more than any single headline
[45:28] Speaker 2: or product, is what actually changes lives. Be well, stay curious,
[45:34] Speaker 2: and we'll talk again soon
