[12:46] Speaker 2: Oh well, what, how? How could it?
[12:50] Speaker 4: I don't know.

[13:38] Speaker 2: if you're here in connection with the death of mister Parkinson, well,
[13:42] Speaker 2: in addition to representing Amalgamated Life Association, and the claim

[13:49] Speaker 2: I know that well. I'm also the car and I hereabouts.
[13:54] Speaker 2: Then it was you who pronounced his death as accidental. Yep,
[13:57] Speaker 2: after doctor Herbert examined the body for me. All right,
[14:00] Speaker 2: now listen to me. Mister Parkinson was an old man.
[14:02] Speaker 2: Mister Dolla had trouble with his feet. Eyesight wasn't so
[14:06] Speaker 2: good either, mister Bottomley, so when he tripped against that
[14:09] Speaker 2: old railing on the bridge the other night and the

[14:42] Speaker 2: is out the door, mister Dolla, around the side of
[14:44] Speaker 2: the building. Then you wouldn't have seen him. If Jimmy
[14:47] Speaker 2: went out there to make a phone call. Only one
[14:49] Speaker 2: might have seen him, is old Lucius Weather bay Lush's
[14:52] Speaker 2: web the town Drunk. Wait a minute, you're talking about
[14:56] Speaker 2: that old character sitting out front. I've asked him not

[15:13] Speaker 2: to collect the insurance? Jimmy saw him? What was the bottomley?
[15:16] Speaker 2: I have a few questions. I'd like to ask that

[19:18] Speaker 2: I believe he was a distant relative of mister Parkinson.
[19:21] Speaker 2: What does he do? Where does he live? He does nothing? Really?
[19:24] Speaker 2: He was always trying to beg money from mister Parkinson.
[19:27] Speaker 2: Never got it though anybody else. I asked you, where
[19:30] Speaker 2: can I find him? Where does he live? Wither? When
[19:33] Speaker 2: that's right on the old farm out on Winter Avenue.
[19:36] Speaker 2: You can tell it by all the new machinery out front. Okay,
[19:39] Speaker 2: I'll see you, lady.
[19:40] Speaker 7: Oh changed.
[19:49] Speaker 2: On the way out to Harvey Woman's farm, I suddenly
[19:52] Speaker 2: realized that, for once in my life, I'd forgotten to
[19:54] Speaker 2: bring along a gun. Judging by all the equiment out front,
[19:57] Speaker 2: Woman must have gone through the Alice Charmer's catalog and
[19:59] Speaker 2: had every but the farmhouse was nothing but a one
[20:04] Speaker 2: story clavered check half him at the back of it
[20:06] Speaker 2: was a petup hol scenat. Come on, open up, hopping up, Jimmy, Jimmy,
[20:18] Speaker 2: all right, woman, open up this door. I'll break it down. Woman. Okay, brother,
[20:24] Speaker 2: you asked for it. Hey, Jimmy, Jimmy, are you okay?
[20:34] Speaker 2: Where's heart stack at the door? I was afraid the
[20:39] Speaker 2: kid got that phone call through to you. Too bad
[20:43] Speaker 2: for you? He did, all right, Look.
[20:48] Speaker 3: I know he will, Jimmy.
[20:51] Speaker 2: She's still in the kid's right dollar up against the wall.
[20:56] Speaker 2: Place the wall. Put your hands hie against they go ahead.
[21:03] Speaker 2: I'm not carrying a gun woman, that's what you're worried
[21:06] Speaker 2: about it. That's something I'm going to find out for myself. Yeah, yeah,
[21:13] Speaker 2: that would be a mistake. Ju jitsu. Huh not this one?
[21:30] Speaker 2: Oh well? Oh hey, hey hey Jimmy, Hey, Jimmy, it's okay. Now,
[21:41] Speaker 2: everything's okay. Look you you, You and I kind of
[21:48] Speaker 2: stopped in this tracks, didn't we. And you know something, Jimmy,
[21:52] Speaker 2: Now you're a real hero because this time you trapped
[21:55] Speaker 2: a killer for me, Adam six forty fifty for a
[22:09] Speaker 2: new sports jacket without holes in it. Yeah, Harvey Woolman
[22:13] Speaker 2: had managed to get off that one shot. I had
[22:15] Speaker 2: him seven sixty one dollars even a brand new bike
[22:18] Speaker 2: for Jimmy. Why because he saved the company from having
[22:21] Speaker 2: to pay double indemnity expense account total including manager my
[22:25] Speaker 2: car one hundred and seventeen dollars. Unless you'd like to
[22:28] Speaker 2: tack on a little extra fee, yours truly, Johnny Dollar,
[22:45] Speaker 2: Our star will return in just a moment. If your
[22:48] Speaker 2: nineteen fifty seven income was more than five thousand dollars
[22:51] Speaker 2: last year, when you filed your federal income tax report,
[22:54] Speaker 2: you had to use Form ten forty the long form.
[22:57] Speaker 2: Those who were in five thousand or less were permitted
[22:59] Speaker 2: to use the short form Form ten forty A if
[23:01] Speaker 2: they chose. This year, the Internal Revenue Service is offering
[23:05] Speaker 2: taxpayers a new form ten forty A, a simplified form of
[23:09] Speaker 2: only fifteen lines to fill out. The most important difference
[23:12] Speaker 2: about this new form is that those whose nineteen fifty
[23:15] Speaker 2: eight incomes were ten thousand dollars or less and if
[23:17] Speaker 2: you take only standard deductions, you are not permitted to
[23:20] Speaker 2: file your return on the new short form ten forty A.
[23:23] Speaker 2: If you earned over ten thousand dollars during nineteen fifty eight,
[23:26] Speaker 2: or intend to itemize your deductions or other income variations,
[23:29] Speaker 2: the long form ten forty must be used. The Revenue
[23:32] Speaker 2: Service again reminds you to be sure to attach all
[23:35] Speaker 2: W two with holding tax certificates pertaining to your earnings
[23:38] Speaker 2: to the form you intend to file. Send your return
[23:41] Speaker 2: to the district Director of Internal Revenue at the appropriate
[23:44] Speaker 2: district office. Now Here is our star to tell you

[25:44] Speaker 2: hundred mile radius at Mantell's of Latham, south of the
[25:47] Speaker 2: Latham Shopping Center open until ten pm by thirty.
[25:54] Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, this has been one whose toddle always
[25:57] Speaker 1: stands out for the reason that this name of this
[26:01] Speaker 1: character also happened to be the name of a naval
[26:07] Speaker 1: reserve officer and peanut farmer in the state of Georgia
[26:11] Speaker 1: who would go on to be elected to the state Senate,
[26:15] Speaker 1: governor and become the thirty ninth President of the United States.
[26:19] Speaker 1: But as an episode, it does illustrate the big strength
[26:25] Speaker 1: of the Johnstone era, which is its quontinuity. This episode
[26:31] Speaker 1: and its premise is a deep cut because there are
[26:35] Speaker 1: certain characters big, larger than life characters that it's not
[26:40] Speaker 1: particularly surprising if they show up again, you know, Alvin Cartwright, Sure,
[26:47] Speaker 1: La Chugery okay, Durango Laramie, Yeah yeah, you'll be back
[26:53] Speaker 1: Meg from Meg's Palace, Okay, Yeah, all very believable and
[27:00] Speaker 1: what you would expect. But Johnston said, I bet you
[27:03] Speaker 1: forgot about the little boy who drew a picture that
[27:09] Speaker 1: helped Johnny solve a case involving burglary from a not
[27:16] Speaker 1: technically almish furniture factory. But they were kind of amish.
[27:21] Speaker 1: So this is the most obscure character to make a
[27:25] Speaker 1: comeback that Johnstone ever wrote. I mean, if he continued
[27:30] Speaker 1: this long enough, you'd probably have had Hey, you remember me,
[27:33] Speaker 1: like six years ago you came into my gas station
[27:37] Speaker 1: and asked for directions. Oh yeah, back in that long
[27:41] Speaker 1: murder case I was on. Well, I just thought I
[27:43] Speaker 1: would call you, and I don't think he ever quite
[27:46] Speaker 1: got to that point. It also showcases some of the
[27:50] Speaker 1: more frustrating aspects of Johnstone's writing, in my opinion, and
[27:55] Speaker 1: that is a pacing and some unnecessary conversations. The entire
[28:02] Speaker 1: phone call to Pat McCracken could have been just summarized
[28:08] Speaker 1: in a sentence or two. Jimmy Carter being in danger
[28:12] Speaker 1: really did set up a kind of ticking time bomb
[28:16] Speaker 1: that Johnny had to get to, and the more we
[28:19] Speaker 1: kind of dealt with like bureaucracy and that sort of thing,
[28:23] Speaker 1: the less urgent it felt. It just it didn't serve
[28:27] Speaker 1: the story well. To add to that pacing, they also
[28:32] Speaker 1: included in this episode regurgitating things that happened before the
[28:38] Speaker 1: commercial break, which to me doesn't make a whole lot
[28:42] Speaker 1: of sense. There are cases for doing those sort of things.
[28:46] Speaker 1: For example, a lot of serialized television shows would start
[28:52] Speaker 1: with the scene from the previous episode or a soap
[28:55] Speaker 1: opera something like that, where there's been some passage of time. Here,
[29:00] Speaker 1: the commercial breaks are are really not all that long.
[29:03] Speaker 1: You've got, you know, a minute maybe a little more,
[29:07] Speaker 1: little less commercial break, and then you're back to the show.
[29:11] Speaker 1: You don't need a rehaf really like where was I
[29:15] Speaker 1: a minute and a half ago? And yeah, I think
[29:19] Speaker 1: that there's also a little bit of a tonal issue
[29:21] Speaker 1: because you've got a child in peril and then you've
[29:24] Speaker 1: got a comedy drunk that's not all that funny. So
[29:29] Speaker 1: this wasn't horrible, but it's a weaker episode. Well, now
[29:34] Speaker 1: it's time to think are Patreon supporters of the day,
[29:39] Speaker 1: and we are thanking those who have been supporting the

[30:50] Speaker 8: Why do you think I had to set up house
[30:52] Speaker 8: here with that kid of my brothers.
[30:54] Speaker 4: It's about something goes wrong at Doctor Franklin can't do
[30:57] Speaker 4: anything for you.
[30:58] Speaker 2: I've read all about him. He can, but if he
[31:02] Speaker 2: suspects something.
[31:03] Speaker 8: If you played your part all right for the last
[31:05] Speaker 8: two years, he won't as far as he's concerned. I'll
[31:08] Speaker 8: be just Bill Gordon turning home to his beloved wife Mary,
[31:12] Speaker 8: that cute little niece.
[31:14] Speaker 4: Man, don't have descriptions of you all over the country
[31:16] Speaker 4: by now he may recognize you.
[31:18] Speaker 2: So down they'll live the.
[31:19] Speaker 8: Ledge flow down nothing, Hang on, we'll go over the edge.
[31:28] Speaker 2: Did that purposely? Marry? So the cops and see the
[31:30] Speaker 2: skid marks.
[31:36] Speaker 8: Uh huh, yeah, it's perfect, Marry. I can work myself
[31:42] Speaker 8: down to that ledge. You know what to do with
[31:44] Speaker 8: the car. Don't forget to leave it and hide here
[31:47] Speaker 8: before you jump. I spent three years in a pen
[31:50] Speaker 8: for that dough I snatched away. I'm not going to
[31:53] Speaker 8: lose out on it for three hours of pain.
[31:56] Speaker 2: When I get through working over my face.
[31:57] Speaker 8: With my knife, even you won't recognize me.
[32:00] Speaker 1: I hope you'll be with us then in the meantime.
