[4:14] Speaker 10: it's Michaelangelo.
[4:17] Speaker 4: Here's your memory paper.

[4:31] Speaker 7: With half a million dollars.
[4:35] Speaker 4: I'd like to.
[4:35] Speaker 10: Kiss it, kissing it's all right, but keep this stuff
[4:39] Speaker 10: close to you long enough and you'll become radioactive and die.
[4:45] Speaker 10: Don't you ever touch this statuette without a pair of
[4:48] Speaker 10: these special gloves.
[4:49] Speaker 11: I won't even kiss him.
[4:51] Speaker 9: But mister Martinham found guys you're in touch with, will
[4:54] Speaker 9: they pay you up in their own door? Good old
[4:56] Speaker 9: United States, Green Banks Stubby.
[4:58] Speaker 10: You and I have lived in this Dayanke town, fifty
[5:01] Speaker 10: miles from the atomic plant for two years, planning and working.
[5:06] Speaker 10: Finally success. We're going to be paid plenty in the
[5:09] Speaker 10: United States.
[5:10] Speaker 11: Green Bank.
[5:11] Speaker 9: That was a slick Stunn, all right, getting this uranium
[5:13] Speaker 9: compound out of the gate and stuck in the dog's
[5:16] Speaker 9: long hair with adhesive tape.
[5:18] Speaker 11: The dog was so low and ran so fast.
[5:22] Speaker 9: Even the gey got counter at the gate didn't register. Boy,
[5:26] Speaker 9: I had done good when I hooked up with you,
[5:27] Speaker 9: mister Morton. You get more brains in all them bank
[5:30] Speaker 9: heisters and counterfeiters I ever worked with.
[5:33] Speaker 11: But now we got this stuff.
[5:35] Speaker 9: Mister Morton, how do we get the statue out of
[5:37] Speaker 9: the country.
[5:38] Speaker 11: You'll have a guess study or will anybody out? Yeah,
[5:42] Speaker 11: have to be some way, like nobody ever thought of him.
[5:46] Speaker 10: Remember every Sunday the past two months I drove over
[5:49] Speaker 10: to that mountain resort one hundred miles west.
[5:52] Speaker 11: So at the big hotel.
[5:55] Speaker 10: There's a certain guests I've been studying, wealthy Mexican gentleman
[6:01] Speaker 10: named Juan Satillo, about forty seven, good character and.
[6:06] Speaker 7: Very relitious.
[6:08] Speaker 11: Yeah, he's visiting over the resort.
[6:10] Speaker 10: But his home is in Acapulco, Mexico, the famous beach resort,
[6:16] Speaker 10: beach and an ideal place for us to catch a
[6:19] Speaker 10: ship Europe.
[6:20] Speaker 4: So maybe we could stay a while.
[6:22] Speaker 10: There's the uranium compound will be discovered any minute.
[6:27] Speaker 11: We've got to get it.
[6:28] Speaker 10: To Acapulco fast. That's where the Mexican gentleman, Senor.
[6:32] Speaker 11: Sattillo is going to help it.
[6:34] Speaker 7: I don't get you.
[6:35] Speaker 11: We're going over to visiting study.
[6:37] Speaker 4: Get the car.
[6:46] Speaker 10: Only about ten miles more to the hotel where Senor
[6:49] Speaker 10: Satillo is staying study. And what do we do then,
[6:51] Speaker 10: mister Morton, every evening about dusk he walks along the
[6:56] Speaker 10: shore of a little lake in the back of the hotel.
[6:59] Speaker 11: There are on the lake. I'm going to be rowing
[7:03] Speaker 11: in one of them. Oh look, I hate rowing.
[7:04] Speaker 10: Want to be with me study. I want something to happen.
[7:08] Speaker 10: So this statue of Saint Cecilia will mean a great
[7:12] Speaker 10: deal to him, so that he won't part with it
[7:14] Speaker 10: under any condition.
[7:15] Speaker 4: Look, mister Martin, you hired me to help you.
[7:17] Speaker 9: I've been with your two years, most of the time
[7:19] Speaker 9: with my mouth hanging open.
[7:20] Speaker 11: And what you do with onont you explain to me
[7:23] Speaker 11: about the boat and stuff.
[7:25] Speaker 10: Don't see the sailing study. No matter what happened, don't
[7:29] Speaker 10: come to me in the boat. That's what I want,
[7:32] Speaker 10: Senor sil walking on the lake shore. All right, that's
[7:54] Speaker 10: the time.
[8:00] Speaker 4: Oh okay, well.
[8:02] Speaker 11: Oh.
[8:25] Speaker 10: H m hm, listens a tale. I'm the man you
[8:31] Speaker 10: said from drowning last day.
[8:33] Speaker 7: Oh yes, Senor Martin, come in.
[8:39] Speaker 4: A tell.
[8:40] Speaker 11: I brought you a gift appreciation. Let me show it
[8:44] Speaker 11: to you.
[8:48] Speaker 10: No, it's beautiful, a statue of Saint Cecilia that belonged
[8:54] Speaker 10: to my mother before she died.
[8:56] Speaker 7: Please take no, no, Senor mort and I I could
[8:59] Speaker 7: not accept such a could you say my life? I
[9:03] Speaker 7: want you to have it, I insist I would juish it. Senor.
[9:10] Speaker 7: I realized how dear it must be to you. Are
[9:16] Speaker 7: you staying in the States And no, I am starting
[9:18] Speaker 7: to my home in a copol for Mexico tomorrow.
[9:21] Speaker 4: I am driving down.
[9:23] Speaker 11: I'll be happy to know, sir, that my statue of
[9:25] Speaker 11: Saint Cecilia will.
[9:26] Speaker 4: Be going with you.
[9:28] Speaker 7: Thank you, mister Martine. Why you stake on deals? An
[9:32] Speaker 7: English one would say, May God be with you.
[10:02] Speaker 4: Helena.
[10:03] Speaker 12: While I've been waiting here at the missional afternoon.
[10:13] Speaker 7: It is a long drive here from Tennessee, Elena, and
[10:17] Speaker 7: I have five hundred miles more to drive to my home.
[10:20] Speaker 8: One.
[10:20] Speaker 7: I hope perhaps this time he would stay. I promised
[10:26] Speaker 7: you that while I was in the States, I would
[10:28] Speaker 7: think about us and come to a decision. I love
[10:31] Speaker 7: you very much, one. I love you very much too, Elena.
[10:36] Speaker 7: But listen and try to understand. You know I'll do
[10:40] Speaker 7: whatever you say. Your father is a fine man, a
[10:43] Speaker 7: proud man, and you are all eslea I do in
[10:48] Speaker 7: my way. I am a proud man, and and I
[10:52] Speaker 7: know he does not want you to marry.
[10:54] Speaker 11: Me, but we will tell him.
[10:55] Speaker 7: My life does not belong to him anymore. It belongs
[10:57] Speaker 7: to you, Elena. I am much older than you. Your
[11:02] Speaker 7: father wants you to be the wife of a younger man.
[11:06] Speaker 7: And because I am older than you, I know something
[11:10] Speaker 7: you do now. If you defy your father, he will
[11:14] Speaker 7: die of bitter and shame, and you could never forgive
[11:19] Speaker 7: yourself or whe you're a fine man. There is no
[11:28] Speaker 7: other man, maew Elena. I have something in the car here,
[11:36] Speaker 7: something I want you to have. His statue of Celia
[11:42] Speaker 7: given to me by a man whose life I said
[11:45] Speaker 7: it was very dear to him. What better could I
[11:48] Speaker 7: do than give it to the one I love as
[11:51] Speaker 7: our parting. I would keep it at the head of
[11:56] Speaker 7: my bed always. I will never part with it. I
[12:00] Speaker 7: should pray every morning and night that she will watch
[12:03] Speaker 7: over you and protest you by any good bye, one,
[12:21] Speaker 7: good bye.
[12:24] Speaker 8: I love you for it.
[12:42] Speaker 7: Mhm mhm, m hmm.
[12:47] Speaker 4: That is a tar.
[12:47] Speaker 7: Huh what are you doing here in my patia?
[12:51] Speaker 11: Don't you recognize me? Then?
[12:54] Speaker 7: You're Mortin, the man whose life I saved.
[12:57] Speaker 13: Didn't you tell this is Stubby, a man who works
[13:02] Speaker 13: for How do you do mill that statuette of since
[13:07] Speaker 13: Cecilia I gave you in the state I need it back?
[13:11] Speaker 7: I do?
[13:12] Speaker 8: Where is it?
[13:13] Speaker 7: I'm sorry, but I can't tell you.
[13:15] Speaker 11: Why can't you tell you?
[13:17] Speaker 7: I cannot say that.
[13:19] Speaker 10: Maybe just gone will make you think a little differently, mister,
[13:26] Speaker 10: if you don't want to be shot right this minute,
[13:30] Speaker 10: walk up front to our car.
[13:40] Speaker 4: Oh no, can you hear me.
[13:48] Speaker 11: Again?
[13:48] Speaker 4: I ask you, where's that statuette?
[13:53] Speaker 8: I will not tell you?
[13:54] Speaker 4: Okay, study, yeah, you.
[14:00] Speaker 11: Know more than I can take it.
[14:11] Speaker 4: Listen to me.
[14:13] Speaker 11: The reason you won't say where that statue of Saint Cecilia.
[14:16] Speaker 8: Is is it?
[14:18] Speaker 10: Because you might hurt somebody if you did. Now we're
[14:23] Speaker 10: getting somewhere. Who is that person?
[14:26] Speaker 7: I would never tell, not if you beat me for
[14:29] Speaker 7: a hundred years.
[14:30] Speaker 10: Does that person have the statuette? Listen to til I
[14:37] Speaker 10: gave you that statuette so you would bring it down
[14:39] Speaker 10: here to Acapulco. I knew with your reputation no one
[14:44] Speaker 10: would suspect you. But hidden in that statue it's half
[14:49] Speaker 10: a million dollars worth of a certain uranium compound. What
[14:53] Speaker 10: the statue is not lead? If anyone has it who
[14:57] Speaker 10: doesn't know how to handle it, that person who will
[15:00] Speaker 10: become radioactive and die.
[15:04] Speaker 7: Joy you try to frighten me with lice you overhead.
[15:08] Speaker 11: Of the effects of the atom bomb. The radioactivity will
[15:12] Speaker 11: just cause death.
[15:13] Speaker 7: I will go and get the statue.
[15:14] Speaker 11: Tell me where it is and we'll get it.
[15:16] Speaker 14: No, no, Benja must promise not to follow me, all right?
[15:21] Speaker 14: I probably on your word upny, Yes, on my word
[15:24] Speaker 14: of I must drive five hundred miles.
[15:27] Speaker 4: I would start now, five hundred miles.
[15:29] Speaker 7: I'll get to my feet. I will be back in
[15:31] Speaker 7: three days.
[15:34] Speaker 4: On my aunt.
[15:34] Speaker 8: You better hurry.
[15:36] Speaker 4: Yes, I must Hurney.
[15:39] Speaker 8: I must.
[15:51] Speaker 2: Back to counterspy in a moment, but first hits the collar,
[15:55] Speaker 2: hit the spot.
[15:56] Speaker 13: Two full glasses that lot more value, a lot more desk.
[16:00] Speaker 2: Why take less when Pepsi's been more and more among
[16:03] Speaker 2: fellows and girls, among mothers and dads. You hear that
[16:05] Speaker 2: sane and sensible question. Why take less when pepsi is bet?
[16:10] Speaker 2: No budget, no allowance ever had a better friend than tangy,
[16:13] Speaker 2: sparkling pepsicola. Because one big, twelve out pepsi bottle gives
[16:17] Speaker 2: you two delicious drinks that's twice as much tangy taste,
[16:21] Speaker 2: twice as much delicious pepsi to go just twice as far.
[16:25] Speaker 2: That's why more and more families say, why take less
[16:29] Speaker 2: when pepsi is bet? Yes, family is like yours and
[16:32] Speaker 2: mine family is Hollo for America. They're all saying, why
[16:36] Speaker 2: take less when pepsi is bet?
[16:39] Speaker 4: Pepsi cola so delicious and its bottle makes to drinks.
[16:42] Speaker 2: It is certainly a cola for the purchaser who thinks
[16:45] Speaker 2: everybody's drinking.
[16:46] Speaker 8: Pepsi does compare it with the rest.
[16:48] Speaker 11: So much more and so much finer.
[16:50] Speaker 4: Why take less when pepsis.
[16:51] Speaker 2: Beest today tomorrow. Always get America's biggest cola value. Take
[16:56] Speaker 2: home a carton of six big big Pepsi bottles. Insist
[17:00] Speaker 2: don pepsi at the store, and say pepsi at the fountain,
[17:04] Speaker 2: Say pepsi at a fan, Say pepsi whenever you reach
[17:09] Speaker 2: for refreshment. Remember why take less when pepsi bed? And
[17:14] Speaker 2: now back to counterspy. In the dim main room of
[17:30] Speaker 2: a luxurious Mexican haucienda, two men tensely face each other.
[17:36] Speaker 15: Senor Sortio, I must ask you to leave my house.
[17:39] Speaker 7: At once, Senor appuiness, I beg of you to let
[17:42] Speaker 7: me see your daughter.
[17:43] Speaker 8: I will not.
[17:44] Speaker 7: You are right to be angry, but believe me, I
[17:48] Speaker 7: would not come without a good reason.
[17:50] Speaker 15: You are a man of honor.
[17:51] Speaker 7: Signor.
[17:52] Speaker 11: You told her an you would never see her again.
[17:55] Speaker 4: I am her father.
[17:57] Speaker 11: I forbid you to see.
[17:58] Speaker 7: Her now, Senor, with all respect, by Mossie Elena, and
[18:04] Speaker 7: I shall before I leave this house. Her life depends
[18:07] Speaker 7: on her life.
[18:09] Speaker 15: Do you say you must have great reason indeed to
[18:13] Speaker 15: come here now to use such words too? I am
[18:19] Speaker 15: sorry you could not have knowne none. I must remember
[18:26] Speaker 15: even now that you loved her deeply. That is the
[18:30] Speaker 15: door to her room.
[18:32] Speaker 7: Her room is she in?
[18:36] Speaker 15: The doctors do not understand it, but they say there
[18:40] Speaker 15: is no hope for her. No hope she is. She's dying.
[18:48] Speaker 15: Senor Statio, that is her room. You may go in.
[18:56] Speaker 8: H h kah.
[19:05] Speaker 15: H h.
[19:15] Speaker 7: Helena one, what are you wea here? Yess Elena? I

[19:33] Speaker 7: terribly sad. On the table here your statue of Saint Cecilia.
[19:40] Speaker 15: It has been near me all the time.
[19:43] Speaker 16: Right.
[19:45] Speaker 7: I don't know what to say. I am so happy
[19:48] Speaker 7: in your car, Elena. I'm going to take the statue
[19:52] Speaker 7: right away, very well. If you must for a moment,
[20:02] Speaker 7: hold it where I can see it, and you m h.
[20:11] Speaker 15: I'll be waiting for you.
[20:13] Speaker 7: What sometimes some who are I promise and my word

[20:27] Speaker 15: I'll be waiting.
[20:36] Speaker 8: H m hm.
[20:50] Speaker 4: Huh say away what? Oh, Senor Martin, you had a statuette,
[20:56] Speaker 4: give it today?
[20:57] Speaker 10: You promise you would not follow me if I have
[20:58] Speaker 10: a million dollars at stake, stubby, Let you have it
[21:01] Speaker 10: so I can't talk.
[21:02] Speaker 12: Oh, yes, this is coming throughus in mister Harding Secretary. No,
[21:17] Speaker 12: mister Harding's not here. He flew out this morning. He's
[21:20] Speaker 12: already at the atomic plant in Tennessee.
[21:28] Speaker 3: Naturally, mister Harding, the theft of uranium compound from this
[21:31] Speaker 3: atomic plant doesn't matter for the compass binder. Well, doctor Corning,
[21:34] Speaker 3: what section of the plan do you believe it was
[21:36] Speaker 3: stolen from right from this laboratory section, mister Harding. It's
[21:39] Speaker 3: highly radioactive, isn't it. Unless precautions are taken, it can
[21:44] Speaker 3: be fatal. Partly, mister Harding bir yes, what, yes, yes, yes,
[21:52] Speaker 3: of course, Well that's awful, awful, Yes, I'll tell mister
[21:56] Speaker 3: Harting at once.
[21:57] Speaker 4: What is the doctor?
[21:59] Speaker 3: One of our young chemist, cell would Parks, that just
[22:01] Speaker 3: shot himself over his house home, and he left a
[22:03] Speaker 3: suicide note addressed to you.
[22:06] Speaker 4: Let's get over there as fast as we can.
[22:07] Speaker 8: Doctor.
[22:08] Speaker 4: I want to read that note.
[22:16] Speaker 17: I am killing myself because I committed trees and blackmailed
[22:20] Speaker 17: by a man whose identity I never learned, but I
[22:23] Speaker 17: followed his orders. I stole the uranium from the laboratory.
[22:28] Speaker 17: Out in the yard, I picked up the yard cat.
[22:31] Speaker 17: The man was on the outside of the gate with
[22:33] Speaker 17: a Collie shepherd dog. He let the dog run in
[22:37] Speaker 17: through the gate and there was a fight of all
[22:40] Speaker 17: the fiendishlyles schemes. I petted the dog, but as I
[22:44] Speaker 17: did so, I hid the vial under the collie's stomach
[22:46] Speaker 17: with adhesive tape. The dog's owner whistled, the dog ran
[22:50] Speaker 17: out of the gate. Looks unnatural. The guard paid no attention.
[22:55] Speaker 17: What a trick to Now I cannot live on as
[22:58] Speaker 17: a trader. My children, forgive me? What a name for
[23:06] Speaker 17: young Zellno, it could have given us just one clue
[23:09] Speaker 17: to the identity of the man. Maybe he did Peters
[23:11] Speaker 17: without realizing it. In this part of the country, people
[23:14] Speaker 17: prefer hounds, and not many have Collie shepherd dogs. I
[23:18] Speaker 17: want you to locate every Collie shepherd dog within one
[23:20] Speaker 17: hundred miles of this plant were outside the town. Peters,
[23:33] Speaker 17: you can drop the sirn Now, go ahead and tell me.
[23:37] Speaker 17: We've located one hundred and nineteen college shepherd dogs within
[23:40] Speaker 17: one hundred miles of the atomic plant. The owner's all
[23:43] Speaker 17: students fiction. The only odd situation is this family were
[23:45] Speaker 17: going to visit Six weeks ago. A man named mort
[23:49] Speaker 17: said he was going to Mexico and gave them his dog.
[23:52] Speaker 17: That's worth investigating. I'm glad you brought along the Geiger
[23:55] Speaker 17: counter too. With so much uranium compound taped to the
[23:57] Speaker 17: body of the dog, even though it was only on
[23:59] Speaker 17: him for a few minute, it may have made him radioactive.
[24:02] Speaker 17: And there are some trucks I had, Peter Sounder, siren
[24:04] Speaker 17: time country, Easy, easy, boy, this isn't gonna hurt all
[24:22] Speaker 17: set with the counter.
[24:23] Speaker 8: Day.
[24:23] Speaker 4: Move a dog over this way, father, Peter, Boy, come on,
[24:29] Speaker 4: let's try the Geiger counter. Oh that's normal. Swing a
[24:38] Speaker 4: dog over a little, father, Come on boy, here you
[24:40] Speaker 4: doing good? Boy?
[24:47] Speaker 17: He sure is radioactive. This is the dog, without any question, Peters,
[24:52] Speaker 17: look at that needle. This dog will never live. Sorry,
[24:57] Speaker 17: old boy. Look at his eyes. I think he knows
[25:02] Speaker 17: the too, Peter. As you say, the woman who has
[25:04] Speaker 17: this dog now says that the man who gave it
[25:05] Speaker 17: to her mentioned flying to Mexico. Yes, I'll check any
[25:09] Speaker 17: plane reservations made recently from around here to Mexico and
[25:12] Speaker 17: contact the Mexican police. The thieves are going to want
[25:14] Speaker 17: to get that Gurini into some foreign country.
[25:16] Speaker 4: Just as soon as they can.
[25:35] Speaker 9: To mister Morton, I'm sure glad to see that boat study.
[25:39] Speaker 9: I'll be glad to get out of rockapool coat too.
[25:43] Speaker 10: Not too happy about our disguise, as though, whereas the
[25:47] Speaker 10: best we could do. You got the tickets ice one
[25:49] Speaker 10: study for Europe.
[25:51] Speaker 4: And a half a million books per your fame.
[25:53] Speaker 8: Hey, well, we aren't going.
[25:56] Speaker 10: To Europe for that little tob That's only the lighter
[25:58] Speaker 10: to take passengers out of the ship.
[26:00] Speaker 9: He's anchored way out. Don't let that suitcase get out
[26:03] Speaker 9: of your hands. Feather have a line. We have to
[26:06] Speaker 9: show our tickets.
[26:15] Speaker 7: You know, I got a laugh.
[26:16] Speaker 4: Watching right in my hands. Enough you rained him come shopping.
[26:22] Speaker 4: Here's the guy taking the pickets. Tickets, please please show
[26:27] Speaker 4: your tickets.
[26:28] Speaker 18: There you are you two gentlemen, brs, two gentlemen. I
[26:31] Speaker 18: want to port it for that banks And okay, very well, that.
[26:39] Speaker 8: The moment we're delaying a lie.
[26:41] Speaker 4: Let's keep going. Stand where you are A gun and
[26:45] Speaker 4: another one right behind your boy. Walk through that door?
[26:52] Speaker 4: What is it? And I say, counter five Peters, I've
[26:55] Speaker 4: got the covered. See they have guns.
[26:58] Speaker 16: We're one each. But the honey, I protest that treatment.
[27:02] Speaker 16: If I am wrong, I'll apologize. Peter in the table,
[27:10] Speaker 16: WO bring the gager counter closer.
[27:13] Speaker 17: Yeah, no, let's see paper, books, shirts, ties, toilet. Martin
[27:27] Speaker 17: wants this wrapped in flannel.
[27:29] Speaker 11: Just h thatt your wet.
[27:34] Speaker 8: Hear that.
[27:36] Speaker 4: The gager counter tells us that whatever is in this
[27:38] Speaker 4: plannel is radioactive. Open up, Peters, let's see.
[27:41] Speaker 11: But I well.
[27:45] Speaker 4: That's your weather thinks? Is cee you? Martin? Is this
[27:48] Speaker 4: where you hit the uranium compound you stole from the
[27:50] Speaker 4: Atomic plan.
[27:51] Speaker 11: I don't know what you're talking about.
[27:52] Speaker 4: You blackmailed a man, and you're helping you get it
[27:54] Speaker 4: up with your own Cali dog.
[27:56] Speaker 11: You're out of your mind.
[27:57] Speaker 4: I never owned a dog in my life. Just the moment,
[27:59] Speaker 4: I have another way to make a test. Come not
[28:02] Speaker 4: tell me my wife. He's jumping all over.
[28:06] Speaker 11: It doesn't mean anything.
[28:07] Speaker 4: The dog hasn't forgotten. You had all the people here.
[28:10] Speaker 4: He picked you right out. You killed him. Now he's
[28:13] Speaker 4: putting a finger on you.
[28:30] Speaker 2: When your friends drop in, be generous, but he's thrifty too.
[28:33] Speaker 2: Serve plenty of delicious pepsicola. Pepsi's big twelve hour bottle
[28:38] Speaker 2: gives you not just one sparkling glassful, but two. Get
[28:41] Speaker 2: a cart in the six and serve twelve delicious drinks. Yes,
[28:45] Speaker 2: pepsi is America's biggest cole of value. You get twice
[28:48] Speaker 2: the tangy taste, twice the refreshment, twice the pepsi, So
[28:52] Speaker 2: why take less when pepsi is dead. Whenever you reach
[28:56] Speaker 2: for a refreshment, remember pepsicklah spot twofold glasses, battle, lot lots.
[29:02] Speaker 4: More value, lot lots more value, lots more death.
[29:06] Speaker 8: Py take that when.
[29:07] Speaker 2: Testy said, Tune and every Tuesday and Thursday, same time,
[29:11] Speaker 2: same station to counter spy. Listen on Thursday for the
[29:15] Speaker 2: exciting counter spy case of the Desert explosions.
[29:19] Speaker 17: The man eating birds of prey that were used to
[29:21] Speaker 17: execute a betrayer, the worldwide smuggler who used geometry and
[29:26] Speaker 17: action to test salesmen of information, and the three pennies
[29:31] Speaker 17: worth of sulfur that were used to trick the killer
[29:33] Speaker 17: the Law Couldn't touch. Be sure to be listening on Thursday,
[29:37] Speaker 17: day after Tomorrow to Case of the Desert Explosions on Counterspy.
[29:50] Speaker 17: The night's counter Spy program originated in New York and
[29:53] Speaker 17: featured Don McLaughlin and Mandel Kramer, with music by Jesse Crawford.
[29:58] Speaker 17: Counter Spy is a Philip Floyd production for Pepsi Cola.
[30:02] Speaker 17: Enjoy some Pepsi ice Cold tonight, Welcome back.
[30:19] Speaker 1: Well, this was an interesting case as far as it went,
[30:24] Speaker 1: but a bit of a bummer. I felt so bad
[30:27] Speaker 1: for Senior Setillo, as he really did seem to be
[30:31] Speaker 1: a stand up guy in every way, and Elena, and
[30:35] Speaker 1: of course the poor Tommy the Holy Shepherd. The sad
[30:40] Speaker 1: thing is that Morton and Stubby probably will have a
[30:44] Speaker 1: more pleasant fate than any of them. In terms of
[30:48] Speaker 1: the episodes statement about dog ownership in Tennessee in nineteen
[30:54] Speaker 1: forty nine, it was pretty accurate. This was based the location,
[31:01] Speaker 1: likely inspired by an actual facility that was in East Tennessee,
[31:06] Speaker 1: and hounds far more popular than other dogs, although coley
[31:13] Speaker 1: shepherd is probably much more a colloquial term before a
[31:17] Speaker 1: lot of our language about various breeds became more standardized.
[31:24] Speaker 1: All right, Well, listener comments and feedback now, and we
[31:27] Speaker 1: have an email from Ken who riots was traveling so
[31:31] Speaker 1: couldn't send this sooner. The Counterspy episode The Case of
[31:34] Speaker 1: the Poison Peddler is the latest examples of shows taking
[31:39] Speaker 1: on issues in the forties and fifties that still exists today.
[31:44] Speaker 1: That particular episode takes on individuals in the community recruiting
[31:48] Speaker 1: and warping the minds of young people with hatred towards others,
[31:52] Speaker 1: something we see happening today. Previous episodes of Counterspy, The
[31:56] Speaker 1: Silent Men, The Man Called X, and Dangers a Sign
[32:00] Speaker 1: and also have had our heroes taking on issues of
[32:02] Speaker 1: that time period that either still exist or have raised
[32:05] Speaker 1: their head again in modern times. You should consider pointing
[32:08] Speaker 1: that out in your commentaries in the future. In addition
[32:12] Speaker 1: to these being good stories, I enjoy contrasting the way
[32:16] Speaker 1: life existed seventy to eighty years ago with the different
[32:19] Speaker 1: and in my opinion, better use of language, and how
[32:22] Speaker 1: the issues of the time have changed or not. Thank
[32:25] Speaker 1: you for providing us this entertainment, Ken Well, thank you
[32:29] Speaker 1: so much, Kin, and I guess I would also mention
[32:34] Speaker 1: a couple of the programs that The Adventures of Superman
[32:39] Speaker 1: with their series on intolerance going on for about two
[32:44] Speaker 1: hundred and three hundred episodes, and then you actually had
[32:48] Speaker 1: another Phillips Lord series that we played that's not particularly
[32:53] Speaker 1: well remembered, particularly when compared to Counterspy, District Attorney, and Gangbusters,
[33:02] Speaker 1: but he had a series called Treasury Agent, and actually
[33:06] Speaker 1: the first episode it's something like that now. It included
[33:12] Speaker 1: an original racist song that was written for the episode
[33:18] Speaker 1: that got stuck in my head, so that was a challenge,
[33:21] Speaker 1: but he was trying to address the issues. I do
[33:24] Speaker 1: think it's always a fine line in terms of my commentary,
[33:29] Speaker 1: because where I will try to explain something is where
[33:36] Speaker 1: it might be unclear to some listeners, like this is
[33:40] Speaker 1: actually relevant to our times, but it's a bit more obscure,
[33:45] Speaker 1: so I need to bring this out a bit and
[33:48] Speaker 1: research and come up with the contexts. But sometimes an
[33:53] Speaker 1: old time radio program is speaking to events in our
[34:01] Speaker 1: time and it is plain, and in those cases I
[34:05] Speaker 1: tend to really lean in more towards a less is
[34:11] Speaker 1: more approach, because there is a danger where you can
[34:16] Speaker 1: become really on the nose and can almost militate against
[34:22] Speaker 1: the point by aggressively pointing out and being like get it,
[34:27] Speaker 1: get it, which I think can end up alienating people
[34:31] Speaker 1: and make them feeling like you're using the show as
[34:36] Speaker 1: a platform to express your own opinion. So I tend
[34:41] Speaker 1: to think it's best just to let the programs speak
[34:44] Speaker 1: for themselves on those sort of points. But I do
[34:47] Speaker 1: appreciate your comment. Thank you so much. Can I really
[34:51] Speaker 1: appreciate it? Well, now it's time to think. Our Patreon supporter.
[34:55] Speaker 8: Of the day.
[34:56] Speaker 1: Thank you to Nancy, Patreon supporter since March twenty sixteen,
