[2:36] Speaker 2: I want to be included in a sofa?
[2:40] Speaker 3: Mitch?
[2:41] Speaker 4: What have I done?
[2:42] Speaker 3: Why are you slapp me? Matt? Where are they they?
[2:46] Speaker 3: What is this day you speak of? I'm on that
[2:50] Speaker 3: we haven't got all day? Where are the plates for
[2:52] Speaker 3: the coupons? I've not started them near here? You see?
[2:56] Speaker 3: This is yet the design I've made up. Okay, Mat,
[2:59] Speaker 3: you can cut the fairy tale?
[3:01] Speaker 2: How much?
[3:01] Speaker 3: How much for work? We're gonna tip match you're back
[3:04] Speaker 3: in business again. We'll pay money, good money for that
[3:06] Speaker 3: set of plates?
[3:08] Speaker 1: How much?
[3:09] Speaker 3: I think you better leave? Of course, if money doesn't
[3:12] Speaker 3: make you talk matter, there are other ways like this child.
[3:17] Speaker 3: This is Steve Granger, private detective with a story about
[3:21] Speaker 3: a character who had ideas about going for killing. The
[3:24] Speaker 3: killing got there first. Just a moment, I'll take you
[3:27] Speaker 3: back to one of my most interesting cases. This is Granger.
[3:41] Speaker 3: I was seated in my office feeling calm, peaceful, full
[3:45] Speaker 3: of goodwill, why not. The rent had been paid for
[3:49] Speaker 3: two months in advance. Nobody had been using my thoughts
[3:52] Speaker 3: over a target.
[3:53] Speaker 2: Lately.
[3:55] Speaker 3: I had plans for pleasant evening. The plans disappeared in
[3:59] Speaker 3: the shrill of my oppone. Hello Granger, Yeah, who's that?
[4:09] Speaker 2: This is the printer?
[4:11] Speaker 3: What's wrong? Then come down here right away.
[4:14] Speaker 2: Twenty fourteen is thirteen in the basement and bring a doctor.
[4:28] Speaker 3: Matt, Holy what happened? They came and took them my plates.
[4:34] Speaker 3: You've got to get them back for the doc. Should
[4:37] Speaker 3: be here any minute. But you got to find those plates.
[4:41] Speaker 3: What plates? I always want to make a pair of
[4:44] Speaker 3: perfect ones.
[4:45] Speaker 2: I finished in this afternoon and made one print. Crincher,
[4:50] Speaker 2: I get it.
[4:52] Speaker 3: Cannot eat plates again.
[4:53] Speaker 1: You've got to get them back.
[4:55] Speaker 3: Grainger, I did it. Don't live for a hobby. That
[4:58] Speaker 3: kind of hobby got you ten years, and a ten
[5:02] Speaker 3: got you up like this. Matt who taught you? It
[5:05] Speaker 3: was Mitch? Mitch what's his last name? I don't know.
[5:09] Speaker 3: He's been coming around for some time. Found out that
[5:12] Speaker 3: what I was doing. Was he alone? Another man or
[5:18] Speaker 3: looked like big Man was his name, I don't know.
[5:23] Speaker 2: He just stood there and watched.
[5:26] Speaker 3: He was enjoying himself. I wonder what happened to that doctor.
[5:32] Speaker 3: Range got anything in the medicine chest. Maybe I can
[5:35] Speaker 3: ease your pain a little bit.
[5:36] Speaker 2: Nothing, Jersey's get get back my plates.
[5:49] Speaker 3: Knap the printer closed his eyes for the last time.
[5:52] Speaker 3: I picked up his phone, called the police department, and then,
[5:55] Speaker 3: because the government boys would be interested in NAT's plates,
[5:58] Speaker 3: had it called to a friend of mine named He
[6:01] Speaker 3: was there in five minutes. Hey, somebody really gave it
[6:05] Speaker 3: to him, didn't Hey, yeah, before he died. And that
[6:10] Speaker 3: mentioned one name, mitch Man. That doesn't mean much. He's
[6:15] Speaker 3: say anything else. He mentioned. There was another man in
[6:18] Speaker 3: the party, an older guy, looked like he had money.
[6:21] Speaker 3: No names, right, you look around this place. No, I thought,
[6:25] Speaker 3: I'd wait for you. It'll be your baby. If the
[6:27] Speaker 3: man of Stolea's plate starts using him another day, another
[6:31] Speaker 3: kind of there. Well, fellas you find out anything about
[6:34] Speaker 3: the crime?
[6:34] Speaker 2: Oh are you bad? And how did you get him?
[6:36] Speaker 3: One of the news I heard they might be young
[6:37] Speaker 3: down here, Well, there isn't I don't get me that.
[6:39] Speaker 3: Aren't you a government man? I said, there is no
[6:42] Speaker 3: story down here. And the guy in the couch looks
[6:45] Speaker 3: like he's suffering from me.
[6:46] Speaker 2: Looks bad. Get out of here.
[6:47] Speaker 3: We've got a lot to do on my paper. Not
[6:49] Speaker 3: worried about your paper now where you beat it?
[6:51] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[6:51] Speaker 3: Sure, if that's the way you feel, see it? Hey,
[6:56] Speaker 3: aren't you Granger?
[6:57] Speaker 2: The private eye?
[6:58] Speaker 3: Oh? What if? He quite a deal? The copp government men,
[7:01] Speaker 3: even a private eye goodbye. I always welcome a chance
[7:10] Speaker 3: to work with a government boys. So when Ed suggested
[7:12] Speaker 3: i'd check with him later in the day, I agreed. Also,
[7:15] Speaker 3: I wanted a chance to get next to this Mitch,
[7:17] Speaker 3: the man who tortured, not the printer. I'd liked going that,
[7:21] Speaker 3: even if he was a counterpet artist. However, I had
[7:25] Speaker 3: a conversation that was taking place in another part of
[7:28] Speaker 3: town just then. I might not have been so eager.
[7:31] Speaker 2: Well why did you find out?
[7:33] Speaker 3: I went back and pretended I was a newspaper man.
[7:35] Speaker 2: Wasn't that dangerous? I have no credential.
[7:37] Speaker 3: Who cares about credentials? I found out something that wasn't
[7:40] Speaker 3: dead when we left, But I thought, yes, so did I.
[7:43] Speaker 3: But he've been long enough to call that private detective
[7:45] Speaker 3: Steve Granger. Seems that that new Granger told him my
[7:49] Speaker 3: first name before he died.
[7:51] Speaker 2: We'll have to do something about Granger.
[7:52] Speaker 3: No more killing. We killed Granger, we could get the
[7:55] Speaker 3: trouble you got plenty of friends.
[7:57] Speaker 2: Don't worry. I think I know just how to handle
[8:00] Speaker 2: mister Granger.
[8:04] Speaker 3: I'll continue with this interesting story in a minute.
[8:17] Speaker 2: I was sitting in my office checking with people.
[8:19] Speaker 3: In Manhattan who might know somebody named Mitch. So far
[8:22] Speaker 3: had come up with fifty men by that name, none
[8:25] Speaker 3: of them the right one. Then the man walked in
[8:29] Speaker 3: strictly Wall Street, gray, business suit, Hamburg, and a million
[8:33] Speaker 3: dollars worth of a plum.
[8:34] Speaker 2: Mister Granger, you have been recommended to me.
[8:38] Speaker 3: Thanks who did the recommending? And why?
[8:40] Speaker 2: I have a delicate matter on my hands. It concerns
[8:43] Speaker 2: my daughter, Jijan Headstrom. She's in Philadelphia.
[8:47] Speaker 3: It's a nice combination.
[8:49] Speaker 2: I want her brought back to New York.
[8:50] Speaker 3: But tactfully, of course, it'll be more explicit. Mister.
[8:54] Speaker 2: My daughter is in love with a young man there.
[8:57] Speaker 2: Your youth is to come home. I want that brought back.
[8:59] Speaker 3: She over twenty one. I'm afraid she's mistress of her
[9:03] Speaker 3: own future. It's nothing you can do.
[9:05] Speaker 2: I thought that perhaps you could induce, So shall we
[9:09] Speaker 2: pay to return.
[9:10] Speaker 3: If I try to induce her as you say, and
[9:13] Speaker 3: she resented it, I could wind up in a Philadelphia poke.
[9:17] Speaker 3: I'm afraid I'll have to turn you down, dear me.
[9:19] Speaker 2: That's most importantly, couldn't I urge you to change your mind?
[9:24] Speaker 3: And not just this minute? No, however, I might reconsider
[9:29] Speaker 3: in case you should miss Granger my car goodbye. I
[9:37] Speaker 3: waited the proper length of time, after which I set
[9:40] Speaker 3: sailah stern of the portly gent. I stayed ten feet
[9:43] Speaker 3: behind him, keeping an eye on his humbering hat, which
[9:45] Speaker 3: stuck out of the rest of the crowd. Hey, Granger,
[9:48] Speaker 3: you're just the guy I want to see, Not now, reporter,
[9:50] Speaker 3: I got things to dobeat it, Papa, listen, I want
[9:52] Speaker 3: the answer to a very important question. Well you let
[9:54] Speaker 3: go of me. I'm trying to keep an eye on somebody.
[9:59] Speaker 3: A few seconds in which I was delayed by the
[10:00] Speaker 3: reporter enabled mister Hamburg had to be swallowed up in
[10:03] Speaker 3: the crowd, and when I turned round to do a
[10:05] Speaker 3: little verbal pasting in the reporter, he disappeared too. I
[10:12] Speaker 3: fished out the car the pompous character had left with me.
[10:15] Speaker 3: It gave the name of Henry Glazer, and the address
[10:17] Speaker 3: when I found it turned out to be an automobile dealers.
[10:21] Speaker 3: But it also turned out that Henry Glazer at that
[10:23] Speaker 3: address for no resemblance whatsoever, that the guy in the
[10:26] Speaker 3: Hamburg had. My deductive powers were really working that morning.
[10:30] Speaker 3: It didn't take me more than ten minutes to figure
[10:33] Speaker 3: out that I'd been fooled. I left the place wondering
[10:39] Speaker 3: why mister Hamburg had a lie to me. Then I
[10:41] Speaker 3: got that feeling up and down the spine and realized
[10:44] Speaker 3: I was wearing more tails than a minx stole. I
[10:48] Speaker 3: couldn't catch a glimpse of my follower, but I decided
[10:50] Speaker 3: to make a small detour on my way back to
[10:52] Speaker 3: the office and calling on my friend Cal Hendrix. Well, well,
[10:56] Speaker 3: how's a peripatetic private eye this fine morning? Hey, that's
[11:00] Speaker 3: twenty five dollar word. I'm only a twenty dollars defective.
[11:03] Speaker 3: Perapethetic simply means walking from place to place. Yeah, well,
[11:07] Speaker 3: walking is something I'm not too fond of right now,
[11:10] Speaker 3: I've got company someone on your tail? Yeah, I mean
[11:13] Speaker 3: keeping one eye over my shoulder, one across the street,
[11:15] Speaker 3: and one when I could spurred in front of me.
[11:17] Speaker 2: Something growing.
[11:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a call from Matha Frind. I's already
[11:21] Speaker 3: gone out of business. He has as of today. Somebody
[11:26] Speaker 3: wanted a set of plates you'd made, and they weren't
[11:29] Speaker 3: too squeamish about how they got them.
[11:31] Speaker 2: Don't tell me I've got a tended stomach.
[11:34] Speaker 3: Just keep your ears flapping and see what you can
[11:35] Speaker 3: pick up. Kel, my friend, you may have three eyes,
[11:38] Speaker 3: but I don't have fingers on my ears. However, I
[11:41] Speaker 3: should attempt class A team. Whatever information is available, well,
[11:44] Speaker 3: if you get it, they just be a good guy
[11:46] Speaker 3: and translate it before you pass it on. I was
[11:53] Speaker 3: feeling kind of dizzy from mister Hendrick's verbal gymnastics, so
[11:56] Speaker 3: I nearly walked straight into the lobby of my office
[11:59] Speaker 3: building without looking. It was lucky I didn't, because the
[12:02] Speaker 3: lobby was currently being inhabited by someone I didn't want
[12:05] Speaker 3: to meet, one of the local gun boys, and it
[12:07] Speaker 3: was a cinch I was his target for the day.
[12:13] Speaker 3: I beat it, run to the back entrance, hoping there
[12:15] Speaker 3: wasn't another one stashed there. There wasn't. I waited till
[12:18] Speaker 3: the gun boy moved towards the street entrance. Then I
[12:20] Speaker 3: made my break up The stairs into my office. I
[12:22] Speaker 3: made straight from my phone and put in a call. Hello, Ed,
[12:27] Speaker 3: this is Granger. Oh hi, gunshoo outther than a bride
[12:32] Speaker 3: burned broccoli? What's with me anyway?
[12:35] Speaker 2: Who hates me?
[12:36] Speaker 4: I don't be concerned.
[12:37] Speaker 3: Grant you.
[12:37] Speaker 2: You had a man at you, Davie if a we predicted.
[12:40] Speaker 3: You, mab any of the men who were after me.
[12:43] Speaker 3: Next time, here we go again. Hey, somebody's coming down
[12:48] Speaker 3: the hall head. Yeah, looks like a woman through the glass.
[12:53] Speaker 3: I listen. I'll unlock the door and let her in.
[12:55] Speaker 3: I'll put a paper over the telephone so she won't
[12:57] Speaker 3: notice it's off the hook. That way you can get
[12:59] Speaker 3: an ear for in case she's got anything to do
[13:01] Speaker 3: with the counterfeat place right in one second? Let me quick, sure, baby?
[13:16] Speaker 4: Why did you lock that.
[13:17] Speaker 3: Door for my own protection? What's on your mind?
[13:20] Speaker 4: There was something stolen today from a man named Nat.
[13:24] Speaker 4: Do I make myself clear?
[13:25] Speaker 3: You're doing the talking?
[13:26] Speaker 4: Would you like to get back what was stolen?
[13:29] Speaker 3: The lady before this oral Shenanigan goes an they father,
[13:32] Speaker 3: Let me explain, I'm not the literate type. Any talking
[13:35] Speaker 3: you do, do it in simple direct words. Now if
[13:39] Speaker 3: I want was stolen. You mean Counterfeat twenty dollars place?
[13:42] Speaker 3: Say so?
[13:44] Speaker 4: Suppose I do.
[13:46] Speaker 3: I don't want to suppose anything. You came up here.
[13:49] Speaker 3: You do the talking very well.
[13:53] Speaker 4: Would you like to get back to the Counterfeat place?
[13:55] Speaker 3: Have you got them? No?
[13:56] Speaker 4: But I can arrange for them to be handed to
[13:58] Speaker 4: you tonight.
[14:00] Speaker 3: This what part do you play?
[14:02] Speaker 4: I'm just a.
[14:03] Speaker 3: Messenger, Okay, beautiful, I'll take those plates tonight. If you
[14:07] Speaker 3: hand them to me in person.
[14:09] Speaker 4: Be done at Peer seven. You know where that is
[14:11] Speaker 4: off Cortland Street.
[14:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's twenty dark down there.
[14:15] Speaker 1: You won't be hurt.
[14:17] Speaker 4: Be there at eight o'clock.
[14:18] Speaker 3: That's a large pier in a special place, directly.
[14:21] Speaker 4: In front of the entrance. That shouldn't be hard to find.
[14:23] Speaker 3: Thanks, I'll see you then.
[14:25] Speaker 4: And by the way, the people who sent me told
[14:28] Speaker 4: me to tell you this. Don't tell anyone where you're going.
[14:31] Speaker 3: I wouldn't dream of it.
[14:34] Speaker 4: I'll see you at eight, By the way, who are you? Nobody?
[14:40] Speaker 4: So the night, mister Granger.
[14:44] Speaker 3: Friendly type. It's still a red Yeah, I got the lot.
[14:50] Speaker 5: Don't harry, we'll get those birds.
[14:58] Speaker 3: Ed sounded very confident. I wasn't so sure. The whole
[15:01] Speaker 3: setup felt phony. There were too many mysterious elements floating around.
[15:07] Speaker 3: There was one thing I don't like. It's a floating
[15:09] Speaker 3: mysterious element. You only have to hit it hard enough
[15:13] Speaker 3: and you're able to find yourself sunk. And just a minute,
[15:17] Speaker 3: I'll bring you the crimax of the case. I hung
[15:29] Speaker 3: up after talking to the government man, feeling that maybe
[15:31] Speaker 3: his confidence was not misplaced. Maybe tonight would tie up
[15:34] Speaker 3: this peculiar business of the missing counterfeit plates. But just
[15:38] Speaker 3: as I was thinking these happier thoughts, my door opened. Granger, Oh,
[15:42] Speaker 3: so you came back.
[15:43] Speaker 4: Our arrangement was that you wouldn't tell anyone where you
[15:46] Speaker 4: were going. I didn't, no, but it was very conveniently
[15:49] Speaker 4: to have the telephone hidden under the newspaper, so I
[15:52] Speaker 4: wouldn't notice it was off the hook. Oh I didn't
[15:55] Speaker 4: trust too, Granger. I came back and listened to the door.
[15:58] Speaker 4: It makes sense.
[16:00] Speaker 3: Oh what now, I don't know.
[16:03] Speaker 4: I'll have to make sure you keep your part of
[16:05] Speaker 4: the bargain. You may hear from me later.
[16:12] Speaker 3: I didn't know what the girl meant by a bargain,
[16:15] Speaker 3: so I got on the phone and told ed the
[16:16] Speaker 3: government man what had taken place. It was as despondent
[16:20] Speaker 3: as I that nothing could be done for the moment.
[16:23] Speaker 3: I killed several hours watching the minute hand on my
[16:25] Speaker 3: office clock make the rounds. At eight o'clock things started
[16:29] Speaker 3: to pop. Hello, s granger.
[16:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, will you give me your word that you won't
[16:35] Speaker 4: have yourself covered if I'm.
[16:36] Speaker 3: Make enough dates with you? Where when?
[16:39] Speaker 4: Oh?
[16:39] Speaker 3: No, your word first? Okay, you got it.
[16:44] Speaker 4: The same case I mentioned earlier.
[16:46] Speaker 3: One hour from now.
[16:48] Speaker 4: Walk down the street from the north towards the pier.
[16:51] Speaker 4: I'll be waiting.
[16:56] Speaker 3: When the girl hung up, I got out my gun,
[16:58] Speaker 3: looks it over carefully, and because I'm the cautious time,
[17:02] Speaker 3: I oiled a small pot here and there. Finally I
[17:05] Speaker 3: replaced all the cottages, and as an extra precaution, dropped
[17:09] Speaker 3: a few spears in my jacket pocket. Per seven was
[17:22] Speaker 3: occupied by a crater wearing rusty sides, dribbling a small
[17:26] Speaker 3: plume of smoke from a stack and dirty water from
[17:28] Speaker 3: the sign. As I neared the entrance, I could spot
[17:32] Speaker 3: an occasional figure moving about the day. I wondered if
[17:36] Speaker 3: the girl could have come from there.
[17:37] Speaker 4: Unger over here.
[17:43] Speaker 3: You've gone?
[17:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, take.
[17:45] Speaker 3: Them, thanks baby. The mind if I unwrap this package
[17:49] Speaker 3: and make sure you're not kidding Greg, But h okay,
[17:57] Speaker 3: because you are on a level, might explain why you
[18:00] Speaker 3: were turn these over.
[18:01] Speaker 4: To me, you know why? Goodbye, Grace.
[18:05] Speaker 3: Hey, hey, wait a minute, quick here, hurry. They shut
[18:11] Speaker 3: at me, and they shot at me too. Rose in
[18:14] Speaker 3: that doorway, two of them.
[18:15] Speaker 4: I couldn't get out of me.
[18:16] Speaker 3: I know you don't wear leaving together. There's a police
[18:21] Speaker 3: car heading this way. I should worry him enough to
[18:23] Speaker 3: give us our chance. As the police siren came nearer,
[18:38] Speaker 3: the guys in the doorways stopped shooting, took a chance,
[18:41] Speaker 3: beat it around the corner well, lucky enough to pick
[18:43] Speaker 3: up a passing cabin. Ten minutes later, we were in
[18:46] Speaker 3: a secluded booth the back of midtown restaurant. Now, baby,
[18:53] Speaker 3: what's all this about? Your pals try to shoot you down? Why?
[18:58] Speaker 4: I don't know, honestly, I don't. I did everything the
[19:02] Speaker 4: men told me.
[19:02] Speaker 3: Who are these men? How come they told you to
[19:05] Speaker 3: come to me?
[19:06] Speaker 4: They said that you were holding my uncle, that you
[19:08] Speaker 4: wanted to count of pat twenty dollars plate. But if
[19:11] Speaker 4: I gave him to you, you let him go.
[19:13] Speaker 3: Who is this uncle? Uncle? Nt uncle Net you mean
[19:17] Speaker 3: not the printer?
[19:18] Speaker 2: Of course, maybe, don't you read the newspapers.
[19:23] Speaker 3: Why Matt died this morning in his basement apartment on
[19:27] Speaker 3: Thirteenth Street. He didn't torture then knife, he said, when
[19:31] Speaker 3: you say they, it's one of them, an older man
[19:34] Speaker 3: who has a gray business suit in the Hamburg hat.
[19:36] Speaker 3: His name isn't Glazier. How did you know? And the
[19:39] Speaker 3: other one he called Mitch. Yes, the police want Mitch,
[19:42] Speaker 3: little lady, he's the one who killed your uncle, Matt.
[19:46] Speaker 3: Matt told me before he died.
[19:47] Speaker 4: You're not lying.
[19:48] Speaker 3: I can prove that.
[19:50] Speaker 4: Then why did they give back the plate? Why did
[19:52] Speaker 4: they shoot at me?
[19:59] Speaker 3: Why the two men that must have been the well
[20:01] Speaker 3: dressed older man and Mitch had tried to kill both
[20:04] Speaker 3: of us just as much of a mystery to me.
[20:07] Speaker 3: Rita Swanson and I got another taxicab and went down
[20:10] Speaker 3: to Church Street to see Ed. First, he printed the
[20:13] Speaker 3: counterfeit twenty dollar bill from the plates. I gave him. Well,
[20:17] Speaker 3: here's your sample. Oh no, Ed, not anything that bad.
[20:22] Speaker 3: I agree that the printer was a real craftsman. These
[20:26] Speaker 3: plates print like the engraver used a crowbar and that
[20:28] Speaker 3: thing so obviously phony. It wouldn't get past a five
[20:31] Speaker 3: year old child. That is bad. I'm as Swanson. I'll
[20:36] Speaker 3: get a stnargrapher any to take down your statement. Are
[20:40] Speaker 3: you willing? Of course? When Rita Swanson started talking, I
[20:47] Speaker 3: heard a lot of things that hadn't been explained before. Also,
[20:51] Speaker 3: the setup she revealed was a honey for passing counterfeit
[20:54] Speaker 3: money in New York, and the reason for killing the
[20:58] Speaker 3: girl and me became obvious. What are you talking about?
[21:01] Speaker 2: Greens?
[21:02] Speaker 3: The girl hands me the plates right and we're both
[21:04] Speaker 3: knocked off. The plates are in opposition when our bodies
[21:07] Speaker 3: are found. That puts on two friends and the clear
[21:10] Speaker 3: to stop using the plate's map made the good ones?
[21:14] Speaker 3: And what a place to pass counterfeit money? I feared
[21:17] Speaker 3: the ticketing they get away with that requires a license.
[21:20] Speaker 3: You know, one of my men's checking the license bureau.
[21:23] Speaker 3: Now I will get your ten and up licenses. They
[21:26] Speaker 3: never stand investigation.
[21:27] Speaker 2: Well that's not what bothers means.
[21:29] Speaker 3: But how to get them start passing the bills? Does
[21:32] Speaker 3: I think I got it?
[21:33] Speaker 5: In?
[21:34] Speaker 3: Miss Winston and I are at l W Hospital condition critical.
[21:37] Speaker 3: Guards at door go on issue a bullet into the
[21:40] Speaker 3: papers all of a sudden, we both take a turn
[21:42] Speaker 3: for the worse. We die. That disposes of the only
[21:46] Speaker 3: two witnesses. I get I'm it right away. I tell
[21:48] Speaker 3: the newspaper boys, I don't mind dying on paper. Ed
[21:58] Speaker 3: set the stage as carefully for a Broadway play. A
[22:02] Speaker 3: spotter watched the two men operate their theater ticket agency,
[22:06] Speaker 3: one located mainly to out of towner's. Two days later,
[22:11] Speaker 3: the trap was made. It it was late afternoon, after
[22:17] Speaker 3: the banks had closed. A government man, posing as a tourist,
[22:20] Speaker 3: approach the ticket agency. A big window opened on a
[22:24] Speaker 3: main hallway of the building. The agency occupied, how do
[22:31] Speaker 3: you do sir? And what can we do for you?
[22:33] Speaker 3: While I was wondering, what about some seats for my fair.
[22:37] Speaker 2: Lady, my fair lady, the ticket next summer?
[22:42] Speaker 3: All all but my wife and I will be here
[22:45] Speaker 3: only this week. I'd pay in almost anything, almost anything, ah, yes,
[22:56] Speaker 3: even scalpings prices.
[23:00] Speaker 5: Sorry, we are a licensed and recognize ticket agency. However,
[23:06] Speaker 5: under the circumstances I could ask around.
[23:11] Speaker 2: Perhaps I could obtain a pair slightly over normal pen
[23:17] Speaker 2: slightly about thirty five dollars, that is, thirty five dollars each.
[23:25] Speaker 3: Oh, my Oh yeah, well, my wife said not to
[23:33] Speaker 3: come back to the hotel without them, so I guess
[23:36] Speaker 3: i'd i'd better get.
[23:40] Speaker 2: Them very well, sir. That will be seventy dollars in advance.
[23:46] Speaker 2: In advance, yeah, thank you. The tickets will be waiting
[23:50] Speaker 2: here for you in one hour.
[23:52] Speaker 3: Thank you. Oh can't can you change one hundred?
[23:57] Speaker 2: One hundred? I certainly, sir.
[24:00] Speaker 5: Here you are, sir, your receipt presented when you pick
[24:03] Speaker 5: up the ticket, and your change ninety one?
[24:08] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[24:09] Speaker 2: Let's go just a minute.
[24:11] Speaker 3: Well, why, what's wrong in the United States government?
[24:14] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[24:14] Speaker 3: Let me see that twenty dollars bill? Standstill? Merlin, what
[24:17] Speaker 3: are you doing up? Crainger? Yeah, alive and aching to
[24:21] Speaker 3: be kicking you. You saw this bill pass, Changer, I did, Merlin,
[24:26] Speaker 3: you'll have to come with me. You're under arrest passing
[24:30] Speaker 3: counterfeit money.
[24:31] Speaker 5: Let's say, Merlin, I would.
[24:32] Speaker 3: Just go it. Cranger, Well, well, I'll report a friend Alia.
[24:35] Speaker 3: It's the mysterious mich I presume come here, Pal, I
[24:38] Speaker 3: want you. I don't think so.
[24:41] Speaker 1: I do.
[24:42] Speaker 3: Nice work, Granger, you're coming along with me and these
[24:45] Speaker 3: two birds. But obviously, well friends, that's the story. I'll
[24:55] Speaker 3: be back to wrap up the case in just a minute.
[25:07] Speaker 3: Merling the big one and Mitch the wounded one. We're
[25:09] Speaker 3: taking places by head. The government man and locked out.
[25:13] Speaker 3: I went along when things had been settled, got out
[25:15] Speaker 3: of there. I wanted to break the news to Rita Swanson.
[25:19] Speaker 4: Cranger did it work?
[25:21] Speaker 3: Went off like a three dollars alarm clock. Baby. Merling
[25:24] Speaker 3: and Mitche are in jail for uncle Nette murder, presently
[25:27] Speaker 3: for counterfeating. The government and the local police will not
[25:30] Speaker 3: I'd get together on no matter.
[25:32] Speaker 4: I hope they'd both go to the chair.
[25:34] Speaker 3: They were then walking distance. Now they look great up
[25:38] Speaker 3: in the witness chair.
[25:40] Speaker 4: Thanks, yes, sir, you'll do all right. I'd feel better
[25:45] Speaker 4: if I were occupying another chair right now, another chair
[25:49] Speaker 4: where in a restaurant. I'm hungry.
[25:53] Speaker 3: Oh, I think I get it, and I just love
[25:56] Speaker 3: to have you with me. I know, paying the check
[26:06] Speaker 3: Steve Granger again next time, welcome back. Well.
[26:23] Speaker 1: I know that it was not in line with his profession,
[26:28] Speaker 1: but Printernat should have taken a page from Barton Drake
[26:32] Speaker 1: and shows mystery rather than designing the perfect counterfeit plates
[26:38] Speaker 1: as his hobby. I personally prefer hobbies that won't land
[26:42] Speaker 1: me in a federal penitentiary for the rest of my life.
[26:45] Speaker 1: But that's just me.
[26:47] Speaker 3: Now.
[26:47] Speaker 1: This is one of those cases, and there're a lot
[26:51] Speaker 1: of them, where adding scenes with the criminals doesn't do
[26:55] Speaker 1: anything to add to the story. At least on Boston
[26:58] Speaker 1: Black your file of vans, you'd get colorful characters coming
[27:02] Speaker 1: up with some verbal tech because they can't stand no
[27:06] Speaker 1: mistakes or whatever. But here it just means the mystery
[27:11] Speaker 1: is getting somewhat blunted since we already know stuff about
[27:16] Speaker 1: the criminals involved here. Now, one might be tempted to
[27:21] Speaker 1: call out granger slang of a twenty five dollar word
[27:26] Speaker 1: as inaccurate, since the saying is usually a ten dollar word. However,
[27:33] Speaker 1: parapthetic is really a lot bigger than your typical ten
[27:38] Speaker 1: dollar entry, so I think it's warranted. I think it's
[27:40] Speaker 1: a twenty five dollar word. I think that if it
[27:45] Speaker 1: was a ten dollar word, you probably have to adjust
[27:47] Speaker 1: for inflation. Now. Also, while parapateetic originally referred to walking,
[27:54] Speaker 1: in the modern usage, it just means traveling from place
[27:58] Speaker 1: to place. In fact, I used to live a parapatetic
[28:02] Speaker 1: life when my dad was traveling all over the country
[28:06] Speaker 1: with us, and certainly we have many people listening who
[28:10] Speaker 1: are parapethetic, and now you can say that probably better
[28:15] Speaker 1: than I have been doing, all thanks to Cal wanting
[28:18] Speaker 1: to show off his education and vocabulary. On another linguistic
[28:23] Speaker 1: related note, I have to say that I have enjoyed
[28:28] Speaker 1: some of Granger's similes this week, not pat Novak for
[28:33] Speaker 1: higher level. They tend to be pretty solid, and my
[28:38] Speaker 1: favorite of this week was it went off like a
[28:41] Speaker 1: three dollars alarm clock, and in the mid nineteen fifties,
[28:45] Speaker 1: three dollars would buy you a decent alarm clock, so
[28:48] Speaker 1: that definitely works. I do want to go ahead and
[28:51] Speaker 1: let you know that we are actually nearing the end
[28:54] Speaker 1: of Danger with Granger. I believe we will be out
[28:59] Speaker 1: of episodes in about three weeks. It's a little bit
[29:02] Speaker 1: to tell because of the labeling of some of the programs,
[29:05] Speaker 1: but I think we are looking at three more episodes
[29:08] Speaker 1: and then coming in four weeks, we are going to
[29:11] Speaker 1: go through a series we've done previously, and my Patreon
[29:14] Speaker 1: supporters decided what Monday series we're doing again, and it
[29:19] Speaker 1: is going to be The Saint, So tune in for
[29:22] Speaker 1: that coming up in four weeks. The listener comments and feedback. Now,
[29:26] Speaker 1: and we start with Valerie, who writes, Hi, Adam, I
[29:29] Speaker 1: listen to your shows via my serious XM app, especially
[29:34] Speaker 1: like yours truly, Jonnie Dollar, Dragnet, Let George Do It,
[29:37] Speaker 1: Love Ball Bailey, Sherlock Holmes, and more. Thank you for
[29:41] Speaker 1: the great programs and interesting discussions. Thank you so much, Valerie.
[29:46] Speaker 1: And then I have a comment over on Spotify, and
[29:51] Speaker 1: this one comes from Mechanic sixty six rights regarding the
[29:56] Speaker 1: Seafarer Mystery. Two hundred and ten pounds isn't that big?
[30:01] Speaker 1: And the saying goes, the bigger they are, the harder
[30:04] Speaker 1: they fall. I think two hundred and ten pounds is
[30:08] Speaker 1: not particularly hefty today, but I think that both in
[30:13] Speaker 1: terms of muscle and in terms of being overweight big people. Today,
[30:22] Speaker 1: your average larger person is larger than the person who
[30:28] Speaker 1: would have been around in the nineteen forties and fifties.
[30:33] Speaker 1: So two hundred pounds lots of muscle probably a lot
[30:38] Speaker 1: more impressive in the mid nineteen fifties than today. And
[30:42] Speaker 1: then have a comment from say Soft regarding the episode
[30:49] Speaker 1: The Wandering Weapon Case. Hey, Adam, in addition to the
[30:53] Speaker 1: problems you sided with rank And there's another problem that's
[30:57] Speaker 1: common with a lot of old time radio detect shows.
[31:01] Speaker 1: It's that whenever there's a shooting and someone appears to
[31:04] Speaker 1: have been framed for it, nobody ever thinks to do
[31:06] Speaker 1: a paraffin test on the subject's hands to see if
[31:10] Speaker 1: you or see had recently fired a gun. I would
[31:12] Speaker 1: think that would be basic routine police work in these
[31:15] Speaker 1: type of cases, but apparently not in the world of
[31:18] Speaker 1: detective fiction. Fair point. The thing with a paraffin test, though,
[31:23] Speaker 1: is that you can fool it if you used blobs
[31:28] Speaker 1: when doing the shooting. In addition, the paraffin test is
[31:32] Speaker 1: really only effective for three days after the killing, so
[31:38] Speaker 1: there are big limits on it. Where I think it
[31:40] Speaker 1: could be very exculpatory is if you found fingerprints on
[31:46] Speaker 1: the gun and we're able to run the paraffin test
[31:50] Speaker 1: within a reasonable amount of time, and then you didn't
[31:53] Speaker 1: find paraffin residue. And certainly there are cases where it
[31:57] Speaker 1: could be suggestive of having fired a gun, but even
[32:02] Speaker 1: then that's not conclusive, particularly if you can come up
[32:05] Speaker 1: with some other reason that you might have the residue there,
[32:09] Speaker 1: like if you went to a shooting range. So I
[32:11] Speaker 1: think there are some limitations with that particular cast. Don't
[32:15] Speaker 1: know how much it would have told in this particular incidence,
[32:18] Speaker 1: but thanks so much for the comment. All right, well,
[32:21] Speaker 1: now it's time to thank our Patreon supporter of the day,
[32:24] Speaker 1: and I want to thank Andrew, Patreon supporter since August
[32:27] Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, currently supporting the podcast at the Shawmus
[32:30] Speaker 1: level of four dollars or more per month. Thanks so
[32:33] Speaker 1: much for your support, Andrew. And then we'll do it

[33:02] Speaker 2: We get out of that car. Pet your hands, okay,
[33:07] Speaker 2: step closerbody so I can see you.
[33:09] Speaker 3: I don't know what is this all about? Moriarity?
[33:13] Speaker 2: P Troman, Fred Moriarity, that's you.
[33:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, fine, sweat you gave me to here. I am
[33:20] Speaker 3: a reporter being held up by Kaine's Only Night cor Yeah,
[33:23] Speaker 3: and the guy that called a friendly cop Kinsky. I
[33:26] Speaker 3: didn't know with you? The matter with you? Moriarity, What
[33:29] Speaker 3: are you so trigger happy about? Well, there's a hoodlum
[33:31] Speaker 3: here in town. He's threatened to get me the cook
[33:33] Speaker 3: cutting for me.
[33:34] Speaker 1: Hold on, Oh, name's Leicester.
[33:36] Speaker 3: Steve Lester say, wait a minute. We got a tip
[33:38] Speaker 3: of there with some shooting here in Docaine.
[33:40] Speaker 2: You know anything about it, friend, No, no, I haven't
[33:42] Speaker 2: heard anything.
[33:43] Speaker 3: Why I jump in the car and I have a
[33:44] Speaker 3: look around. No, no, no, you go ahead.
[33:46] Speaker 2: I've got some business.
