[0:28] Speaker 1: Welcome to Howard Mcneerweek from Boise, Idaho. This is your host,
[0:33] Speaker 1: Adam Graham. Well, I continue my recording break and the
[0:37] Speaker 1: next six encores focus on an actor who has never
[0:43] Speaker 1: played the lead in any of our episodes. However, he
[0:47] Speaker 1: has made his presence felt, whether playing the perpetrator or
[0:53] Speaker 1: a suspect, the sidekick, or a supporting character. Many listeners
[0:58] Speaker 1: eagerly await his appearances, and this week will be a
[1:02] Speaker 1: special trait for them, as every episode includes a part
[1:06] Speaker 1: for Howard mcneir. While he is best known for playing
[1:11] Speaker 1: Floyd the Barber on The Andy Griffiths Show and Doc
[1:15] Speaker 1: Adams on the radio version of Gun Smoke, I think
[1:19] Speaker 1: it's appropriate this week to focus on his contribution to
[1:23] Speaker 1: detective programs. Today's program, along with each episode being presented,
[1:29] Speaker 1: was recorded many years ago, and he offers or information
[1:33] Speaker 1: in the episode are not valid unless reflected on our
[1:36] Speaker 1: Great Detectives of Old Time Radio website. Here now is
[1:39] Speaker 1: an old time radio detective program featuring Howard mcneir. Wow,

[2:32] Speaker 1: time for this week's episode of the Adventures of Bill Lance.
[2:36] Speaker 1: The original air date October twelfth, nineteen forty seven, and
[2:41] Speaker 1: the title is Death Wears a New Dress.
[2:52] Speaker 2: The American Broadcasting Company challenges you to a startling puzzle
[2:56] Speaker 2: and crime The Adventures of Bill Lance starring Gerald Moore
[3:05] Speaker 2: with Alard mcneer's professor Ulysses Higgins. Hello, I'm Bill Lance.
[3:20] Speaker 2: I'm primarily a composer, also a criminologist. F's it's more
[3:25] Speaker 2: accurate to call me a student of human nature. You know.
[3:28] Speaker 2: I believe that crime is the result of a delinquent society,
[3:31] Speaker 2: that the criminal mind is a sick mind, and that
[3:34] Speaker 2: the symptoms of that sickness are always apparent in the
[3:36] Speaker 2: behavior of the criminal. Therefore, if you would expose a criminal,
[3:40] Speaker 2: look for fingerprints on the doorknob, but also look for
[3:43] Speaker 2: imprints on the human mind. In short, human emotions are
[3:47] Speaker 2: my clues. Oh yes, I also played a piano. You
[3:59] Speaker 2: can say a lot of things that way. Sometimes it's
[4:02] Speaker 2: an accompaniment to thinking, particularly when you're trying to unravel
[4:06] Speaker 2: some of the tangles of human behavior, helping to bring
[4:10] Speaker 2: some kind of order into the chaos which people seem
[4:12] Speaker 2: to create so easily. Why, for instance, when when everybody
[4:16] Speaker 2: was so curious, if not furious, about the new friend
[4:19] Speaker 2: and fashions, should death choose to wear a new dress?
[4:25] Speaker 2: Never can tell how swiftly a familiar human problem can
[4:27] Speaker 2: build into a tragic snarl of emotions. As a matter
[4:33] Speaker 2: of fact, even my friend, Professor Ulysses Higgins, seemed to
[4:36] Speaker 2: be building himself up through a passionate fury. And I
[4:39] Speaker 2: had all started and just because I felt like going
[4:41] Speaker 2: a little work on my concerto.
[4:43] Speaker 3: M gCO two plus c O H two equals m
[4:48] Speaker 3: G O H two plus H no no no no
[4:52] Speaker 3: no U.
[4:53] Speaker 2: C c L two. That's if I modulate into H
[4:57] Speaker 2: shop in this phrase.
[4:59] Speaker 3: But if you had cal some hydroxide to magnesium chloride,
[5:02] Speaker 3: you precipitate the magnesium.
[5:03] Speaker 2: As a hydrate. Maybe a progression of chords ending with
[5:06] Speaker 2: the diminished seven mg c L.
[5:08] Speaker 3: Two plus t A O H two equals mg.
[5:11] Speaker 4: Oh.
[5:11] Speaker 2: Oh, you're speaking to me.
[5:17] Speaker 3: I'm merely trying to equate chemical compoigns in my mind.
[5:21] Speaker 3: What's left on my mind?
[5:22] Speaker 2: But that's infernal noise noise, my dear professor. What strikes
[5:28] Speaker 2: your tin ear as noise? Maybe heavenly music to a
[5:31] Speaker 2: more discriminating order.
[5:33] Speaker 3: Even if you're proposition with true your premises fault, you
[5:36] Speaker 3: cannot call that piano chinkering music.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Touchet, let's argue the point. Huh he saved by the bell?
[5:44] Speaker 2: Wouldn't dream of taking you away from your magnesium and hydrates? Hello? Oh, hello?
[5:54] Speaker 3: Do you remember?
[5:55] Speaker 2: Maybe you didn't start by saying guess who's so? Must
[5:58] Speaker 2: be somebody I like JOm tyling. It's been over a year.
[6:03] Speaker 2: Where have you been? Hello? Still in fiction?
[6:08] Speaker 5: I got myself?
[6:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't think of a nicer figure for it.
[6:14] Speaker 2: It happened to where Oh, very she she? You're always
[6:22] Speaker 2: different from what would you always would give me good addie. Oh,
[6:27] Speaker 2: it's sometimes I talk too much for my own good.
[6:31] Speaker 2: Oh where are you living? Now? I can ride over it?
[6:33] Speaker 2: I can't tomorrow, then, Oh good, I'll see you there.
[6:40] Speaker 2: I don't think why not.
[6:42] Speaker 6: I've been wanting to get a look.
[6:43] Speaker 2: At the new style, to give every woman's figure a
[6:45] Speaker 2: gen kind of nice.
[7:01] Speaker 7: There has been much too much idle conversation about the
[7:04] Speaker 7: new trends and miladies fashions. As long as I mean,
[7:07] Speaker 7: the world can stand still. No, as we change within,
[7:12] Speaker 7: we must change.
[7:13] Speaker 2: Without without was talking about clothes without clothes, But I
[7:19] Speaker 2: all red.
[7:20] Speaker 8: Look to the future, and in the future, I see
[7:24] Speaker 8: the past, and in both I see today's.
[7:26] Speaker 2: Woman, the need the week. I'velady told fortunes before I
[7:29] Speaker 2: got into this racket.

[7:47] Speaker 8: no accentuations of shoulders, no accentuations of the waistline, in fact,
[7:53] Speaker 8: no situations at all.
[7:54] Speaker 2: In fact no good. Where next the triangle in swimmering red.
[8:04] Speaker 8: Well there with gracefully sloped shoulders, swinging simply but dramatically
[8:09] Speaker 8: to the low and white blung.
[8:10] Speaker 3: Hen it must swing and swing low.
[8:13] Speaker 2: Swing low sweet cherry.
[8:16] Speaker 9: Yes, and now and now dramatic file the watch with
[8:22] Speaker 9: the diminished shoulders, the petted boozoom, the rounded, hiplined, and
[8:26] Speaker 9: the pinched waist.
[8:28] Speaker 3: Yes, now that that's more like.
[8:29] Speaker 2: Say that reminds me of my grandmother. It does better

[9:28] Speaker 3: she was there.
[9:29] Speaker 5: I won't she she was upset, but she came perfectly well.
[9:31] Speaker 2: Didn't tell you why she was upsets? Were you close friends?

[10:27] Speaker 2: I came here to find out what trouble caught up
[10:30] Speaker 2: with a first? Uh, you think it's maybe suicide?
[10:33] Speaker 5: Suicide?
[10:34] Speaker 2: Yes, I know, Miss Weston, you're thinking the same thing.
[10:37] Speaker 2: I am. Joan wasn't that kind of a girl. Huh

[14:17] Speaker 11: couple of days ago, Missus Randolph comes in buying something.
[14:22] Speaker 11: So naturally I asked her how she likes the bracelet.

[15:21] Speaker 2: Oh how can you.
[15:22] Speaker 3: Waste your time on a drunken pool like that?
[15:25] Speaker 2: Oh? Wasted time?
[15:26] Speaker 4: Then I don't start.
[15:27] Speaker 3: Building a case on a lot of idol. Talk about
[15:28] Speaker 3: a bracelet? He didn't even know who mister Randolph gave
[15:31] Speaker 3: it to.

[16:12] Speaker 3: You wouldn't even know that there was a Sandra Weston
[16:15] Speaker 3: after all?
[16:16] Speaker 2: iPhone? Why professor I didn't know your kid? Why didn't
[16:21] Speaker 2: you say something? I had a chance to speak to
[16:23] Speaker 2: you about it? I tell you what I'll do. I'll
[16:25] Speaker 2: put in a good word for you. Hell Sandra, and
[16:38] Speaker 2: a microphone's under the table. Nobody's even looking this way.
[16:43] Speaker 2: You can now speak freely.
[16:44] Speaker 5: What do you want to know?
[16:47] Speaker 2: Just what do you think of the broken down hemline
[16:49] Speaker 2: in the droopy skirt?
[16:51] Speaker 3: That isn't a fair question.
[16:53] Speaker 2: I make a living showing how fashion's changed, honey. This
[16:56] Speaker 2: is no change. Is the revolution that.
[16:58] Speaker 3: Doesn't excite me.
[16:59] Speaker 5: I've been through too many at alres. You ought to
[17:02] Speaker 5: give me a pension.
[17:02] Speaker 3: I've been that so long.
[17:03] Speaker 4: You think I'm one of the six shoes.
[17:05] Speaker 2: Maybe anytime you want to break your contract, that could
[17:07] Speaker 2: be interested.
[17:08] Speaker 11: That's a nice speech, miss Lance, But you are not
[17:12] Speaker 11: in the dress, didness?
[17:12] Speaker 3: And you didn't ask me to lunch just talk shop?
[17:15] Speaker 3: Did you?
[17:16] Speaker 2: Would you say, Joan Adams is shop talk? I can't
[17:19] Speaker 2: get Joan out of my mind. I I've got somebody
[17:22] Speaker 2: else on my mind now, No tell her named Randolph.
[17:27] Speaker 2: Oh you know a little.
[17:31] Speaker 5: Well, then I suppose there's no reason for my trying
[17:33] Speaker 5: to cover up with.
[17:34] Speaker 2: Joan and Walden. Yeah, I wondered why you didn't say
[17:36] Speaker 2: anything what Joan did with your own affair.
[17:39] Speaker 5: No she's well, why thought in any ugly gods?
[17:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, what was Joan really worried about?
[17:46] Speaker 4: Yesterday morning?
[17:47] Speaker 5: Missus Randolph called her and asked to have lunch.
[17:49] Speaker 2: Oh that explains the cocktail. Well, she had a couple
[17:52] Speaker 2: of drinks with Missus Randolph, that's all she tell you.
[17:55] Speaker 3: How the meeting turned off when she got back to
[17:56] Speaker 3: the shop before I did.
[17:57] Speaker 5: But when I started to go into our dressing room,
[17:59] Speaker 5: I I'm had are calling.
[18:00] Speaker 2: Someone to recognize the boys blues rner.
[18:05] Speaker 5: But that doesn't bruve anything, doesn't.
[18:07] Speaker 2: Oh yes, it does proves something very important. Who's how
[18:11] Speaker 2: lucky I am lucky? Yeah? Well this hadn't happened, I
[18:16] Speaker 2: wouldn't have messed you.
[18:17] Speaker 5: Oh heaven, I'm lucky too.
[18:21] Speaker 2: Now you've made me an honest man. I don't have
[18:23] Speaker 2: to play detective anymore. Just make a date with you tonight.
[18:26] Speaker 2: Well that's a slight conflict. Can I God break it?
[18:29] Speaker 5: That might lead to a complication.
[18:31] Speaker 2: Oh, I can be so discreet.
[18:33] Speaker 5: But it's a friend of you.
[18:34] Speaker 2: Oh that even makes it easier. Who is it you list?
[18:42] Speaker 5: Well, what do you know? When did he make the deed?
[18:45] Speaker 5: He called us before you picked me up?
[18:47] Speaker 2: Played the two timing double. I second thought, more power
[18:51] Speaker 2: to it. Right now, he and I have some shopping
[18:53] Speaker 2: to do in Beverly Hills, mister man, I would be
[19:02] Speaker 2: only too willing to help you.
[19:04] Speaker 3: But of course it is completely unnecessary, now is it?
[19:08] Speaker 2: Oh?
[19:08] Speaker 3: I have talked with the inspector Alund. It is very sad.
[19:12] Speaker 3: Poor girl destroyed herself.
[19:14] Speaker 2: I wonder why? Who knows?
[19:16] Speaker 3: There's so many reasons why one can despair. Of course
[19:19] Speaker 3: I didn't know poor John very well. Well well enough
[19:23] Speaker 3: she she had been with me only a few months.
[19:25] Speaker 3: But that does not mean that I don't suffer as
[19:27] Speaker 3: though she had been with.
[19:28] Speaker 2: Me for years. No, of course. Incidentally, did you know
[19:31] Speaker 2: that Bruce Randolph came to talk to Johnes just before? Why? Why?
[19:37] Speaker 3: He's a very old and valued part on my solo?
[19:40] Speaker 2: He was saying, leaving Jon's dressing room just before the
[19:42] Speaker 2: fashion show?
[19:43] Speaker 4: Unpossible?
[19:45] Speaker 2: Who she last?
[19:46] Speaker 3: May I give you some advice?
[19:48] Speaker 2: What has been has been?
[19:50] Speaker 3: Digging into the past will do nobody any good.
[20:00] Speaker 2: I want to apologize, I must have been pretty far
[20:03] Speaker 2: gone last night to.
[20:04] Speaker 9: BARGINGI on you that way.
[20:05] Speaker 2: I don't apologize, George, you were very cute.
[20:08] Speaker 3: Mister Kincaid, you took an intensive discribe to me.
[20:10] Speaker 4: Oh were you there? I don't remember you.
[20:13] Speaker 2: I must have been a mess. How are you talking of?
[20:15] Speaker 2: Told us a very sad story about a birthday and
[20:17] Speaker 2: a bracelet. Drunkn nonsense, Bill, drunk, no nonsense.
[20:20] Speaker 4: Uh do me your favor?
[20:22] Speaker 2: Will you to get it?
[20:23] Speaker 4: Oh?
[20:23] Speaker 2: But there are a couple of things I'd like to
[20:24] Speaker 2: ask you about. Bruce Randolph. Bill, mister Randolph has been
[20:28] Speaker 2: a very good customer of mine for years. What I
[20:31] Speaker 2: told you you should ever get out? I'm a dead duck.
[20:43] Speaker 3: Bill. Why don't you just give up and admits that
[20:45] Speaker 3: you made a mistake. Oh, I know what's on.
[20:47] Speaker 2: Your mind, but there's nothing to it.
[20:50] Speaker 3: And if you won't listen to me, we'll listen to
[20:51] Speaker 3: the others. Inspector Harland Henri Kincaid.
[20:55] Speaker 2: I've listened to them.
[20:57] Speaker 3: Well I can't see I haven't tried. Would you mind
[21:00] Speaker 3: dropping me off here?
[21:01] Speaker 6: I have more important things to do.
[21:04] Speaker 2: Okay, you listen. I wouldn't want to break your dates.
[21:07] Speaker 2: And anyway, you're not interested in what Missus Randolph may
[21:10] Speaker 2: have to say.
[21:10] Speaker 3: Missus Randolph, No, No, I'm not well, I'm second thought.
[21:15] Speaker 3: I guess I do have time after it.
[21:18] Speaker 2: Stop kidding, Professor. You know in the end, you always
[21:20] Speaker 2: come along for the ride. Uh, cozy little shack. Isn't
[21:34] Speaker 2: it very pretty? This is very pretty?
[21:37] Speaker 3: I always did think that the twenty four rooms was
[21:40] Speaker 3: I'm a love.
[21:41] Speaker 2: No, I don't know in a tin she could turned
[21:43] Speaker 2: his living room into a nice skating rink. Yes, oh,
[21:49] Speaker 2: missus Randolph, my name is Bill Lance. This is my friend,
[21:52] Speaker 2: Professor Higgins.
[21:54] Speaker 5: Oh was it something connected with the university?
[21:57] Speaker 3: No, I am not here in my official catactulus.
[22:00] Speaker 5: But my busser said you had an appointment with me.
[22:03] Speaker 5: I don't remember making any sense.
[22:04] Speaker 2: Oh you didn't. Actually, I took the liberty of coming
[22:06] Speaker 2: here to ask you a few questions about a friend
[22:08] Speaker 2: of mine, Oh, Joan Adams.
[22:11] Speaker 5: Joan Adams. I'm sorry, I don't understand.
[22:15] Speaker 2: Well, she was a very close friend of your husband's.
[22:19] Speaker 2: That's that will identify her for you.
[22:21] Speaker 5: Who are you, mister Lenz?
[22:23] Speaker 2: Don't you know Ulysses and missus Randolph. I thought you'd
[22:28] Speaker 2: appreciate my coming to see you before the police do police,
[22:32] Speaker 2: mister Randolph was rather deeply involved with miss Adams.
[22:35] Speaker 5: Yes, I I'm aware of it.
[22:39] Speaker 2: Perhaps you don't realize how deeply.
[22:41] Speaker 5: But what has that to do with the police.
[22:43] Speaker 2: John Adams died yesterday afternoon. I'm sorry she was murdered.
[22:50] Speaker 2: Your husband happened to be in her dressing room at
[22:52] Speaker 2: Anrie's yesterday afternoon. There was an argument. He left suddenly
[22:55] Speaker 2: and angrily, and almost immediately afterward, Joan collapsed. She died
[22:59] Speaker 2: of poison. Poison Bruce, I was the quarrel about how
[23:04] Speaker 2: far had he committed him going?
[23:05] Speaker 5: But he couldn't have done it. She took the poison
[23:07] Speaker 5: herself or missus Randolph.
[23:09] Speaker 2: I knew Joan Adams may have been foolish, but she
[23:12] Speaker 2: never ran away. What did she have to gain by
[23:15] Speaker 2: killing herself? But your husband was in a real jam.
[23:18] Speaker 2: It wasn't very discreet. You know all our reason knew
[23:21] Speaker 2: about him and Joan.
[23:22] Speaker 5: Mister Lance, I'm going to tell you something you don't know.
[23:26] Speaker 5: I had luncheon with Joan Adams yesterday.
[23:29] Speaker 2: Please.
[23:31] Speaker 5: I've never had any illusions about my husband, but I
[23:34] Speaker 5: love him, so I accepted his romantic indulgences. I've even
[23:39] Speaker 5: felt sorry for some of the girls, especially when they
[23:42] Speaker 5: took him too seriously. That's why I wanted to speak
[23:46] Speaker 5: to Joan Adams. Do you understand that.
[23:48] Speaker 2: Mister Lane, she took him too seriously?
[23:50] Speaker 5: Uh, I had to find out she laughed at me.
[23:56] Speaker 5: How good a young girl like that? I know what
[23:58] Speaker 5: a home means? How could she know how a wife feels?
[24:03] Speaker 5: How could she understand? You don't just give up everything
[24:07] Speaker 5: that has meaning because of a whim. You think my
[24:11] Speaker 5: husband killed her? No, mister Lance, I was the one
[24:15] Speaker 5: who had to get rid of her.
[24:17] Speaker 2: Oh uh less violent waves of handling? That kind of
[24:20] Speaker 2: a situations is Randolph?
[24:21] Speaker 5: You told me the police would be coming here.
[24:24] Speaker 2: Yes, I'm quite willing to.
[24:26] Speaker 5: Tell them what I've told you. And now, mister Lance,
[24:30] Speaker 5: would you leave?
[24:30] Speaker 2: Please?
[24:32] Speaker 5: I assure you that I'll be here when the police arrives.
[24:40] Speaker 2: Well, now I've seen everything, not a nerve in her body.
[24:44] Speaker 3: Why she made me feel like she was doing us
[24:45] Speaker 3: a favor by confession?
[24:47] Speaker 2: Quite a girl. Well somebody's got to stick around make
[24:50] Speaker 2: sure she doesn't change her mind. Uh huh, as I guess, Well,
[24:53] Speaker 2: goodbye there. We'll wait a minute. I've got to call
[24:56] Speaker 2: Inspector Holland, and I've got to run and catch Randall
[24:58] Speaker 2: before he leaves his office. Why Randall, don't you think
[25:00] Speaker 2: you might like to know what's happening.
[25:01] Speaker 3: That's none of my mind to be a word about
[25:03] Speaker 3: your date forget me?
[25:04] Speaker 4: Oh no, no, Ulysses.
[25:06] Speaker 2: I'll guarantee that you keep your date, even if I
[25:08] Speaker 2: have to deliver Sondra to you personally. John Adams, No
[25:20] Speaker 2: afraid not. But let me give you the idea on you.
[25:23] Speaker 2: I had him an other things, mister Randolph's bracelet. I
[25:27] Speaker 2: thought you might want it. After all, didn't you bias
[25:30] Speaker 2: for your wife's birthday? Where did you get this from Joan?
[25:33] Speaker 2: After she died that she was poisoned? So because I
[25:39] Speaker 2: gave her that bracelet, you came here to blackmail me. Well, no, no,
[25:44] Speaker 2: that isn't why I came here. I just wanted to
[25:46] Speaker 2: tell you that your wife had luncheon with Joan yesterday.
[25:49] Speaker 2: She learned about the bracelet. They talked about you over
[25:53] Speaker 2: a couple of drinks. I thought she'd like to know also,
[25:56] Speaker 2: that your wife has just confessed that she murdered Joan Lance.
[26:01] Speaker 2: I'm a don't apologize, but I've always been able to
[26:05] Speaker 2: get away with it, always been able to go back home,
[26:08] Speaker 2: and until this time, this time I had lost my
[26:11] Speaker 2: head in Jones dressing room yesterday afternoon. Yes, yes, she's
[26:15] Speaker 2: written me my wife, I went a little crazy. Oh
[26:20] Speaker 2: so now you're confessing to the murder of John Adam. Yes, yes,
[26:22] Speaker 2: of course, yeah, that's it. Well and Randolph, in that case,
[26:26] Speaker 2: i'd high tailed out to your house.
[26:27] Speaker 6: The police are on their way now to pick up
[26:29] Speaker 6: your wife.
[26:45] Speaker 3: Oh what did you do with the professor?
[26:50] Speaker 2: Well, he didn't really need to stand you up. He was.
[26:52] Speaker 2: He was delayed due to circumstances beyond his control. Oh,
[26:56] Speaker 2: we got on murdering. Was it really murdered? Tell you
[26:59] Speaker 2: all about it on the way out.
[27:01] Speaker 5: How are we going?
[27:02] Speaker 2: I promise Ulysses would take him up. We can always
[27:05] Speaker 2: get him later.
[27:14] Speaker 8: Well.
[27:15] Speaker 3: Well, well, missus Weston, I hope William has explained.
[27:19] Speaker 5: Oh, yes, he has, Professor Higgins your forgift.
[27:22] Speaker 2: Well, it's very nice.
[27:24] Speaker 3: It's very nice. Bill. The Randolphs are in the living
[27:27] Speaker 3: room with Inspector Harland. You won't be needing us any longer.
[27:31] Speaker 2: Keep your shirt on, old boy. We can all go
[27:33] Speaker 2: out together later. You don't mind her, you, Sandra, take
[27:36] Speaker 2: us a minute or two. Come on, Inspector, it's quite
[27:43] Speaker 2: unnecessary to make my wife endure this any longer.
[27:46] Speaker 6: I've already told.
[27:48] Speaker 10: You that I did it, and I don't see you.
[27:49] Speaker 2: It would prove you know it well, Lace just in
[27:54] Speaker 2: time to solve the solution I got one. Might I
[27:57] Speaker 2: read so many It's not like you to complain when business.
[28:00] Speaker 2: This is so good, inspector. But I think we can
[28:02] Speaker 2: set to us very quickly, Elli, mister Randolph, Missus Randolph. Oh, oh, yes,
[28:06] Speaker 2: I nearly forgot. Oh it's Sondra. Come on in. You
[28:09] Speaker 2: both know Sandra Weston of course. No, wait a minute,
[28:13] Speaker 2: I couldn't be mistaken. You do know one another, or
[28:16] Speaker 2: did once. As a matter of fact, that's why I
[28:19] Speaker 2: brought Sondra here to help us with that little problem.
[28:22] Speaker 2: What do you mean you know what she got to
[28:24] Speaker 2: do with our list? Well, she knows mister and missus
[28:26] Speaker 2: Randolph better than we do. Perhaps she can decide which
[28:29] Speaker 2: one is telling the truth.
[28:31] Speaker 5: I wouldn't want to take that responsibility.
[28:34] Speaker 2: Oh, just for a moment, imagine yourself as Joan Huh
[28:37] Speaker 2: open it yet, Think back a little while when you
[28:40] Speaker 2: were in a very similar position, weren't you. If you're
[28:44] Speaker 2: wondering how I found out, well it's pretty hard to
[28:46] Speaker 2: keep a secret around the place like Anoree's, when you
[28:49] Speaker 2: get expensive gifts from the jeweler like Kinkaid. Mister Randolph
[28:52] Speaker 2: has always been very generous to his lady friends. Here's me.
[28:55] Speaker 5: You never asked me about that girl life. I would
[28:57] Speaker 5: have told you it's over anyway.
[29:00] Speaker 2: Don't you agree with me that it's pretty hard to
[29:01] Speaker 2: imagine Missus Randolph killing Joan. She didn't care you and
[29:05] Speaker 2: you were involved with her husband. And when mister Randolph
[29:08] Speaker 2: had a little trouble shaking you off after it became
[29:10] Speaker 2: interested in Joan, he didn't kill you either. Have all
[29:14] Speaker 2: the answers you told me about the luncheon date with
[29:16] Speaker 2: Missus Randolph, about hearing mister Randolph and Joan's dressing room.
[29:19] Speaker 2: You knew why Joan was agitated. The stage was all set.
[29:22] Speaker 2: Joan had a headache, didn't she. Yes, you were very helpful.
[29:25] Speaker 2: She wanted some aspirin and so Phil inspector.
[29:28] Speaker 5: Would you like another consents?
[29:30] Speaker 2: Sandra?
[29:30] Speaker 3: You were oh, rue, Sorry, you wouldn't believe me.
[29:34] Speaker 4: I don't never let anyone else, hey man.
[29:39] Speaker 2: It changed to one night, three confessions, only one score inspected,
[29:44] Speaker 2: A two don't count.
[29:55] Speaker 3: And at least you could have told me about Sandra.
[30:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, I wasn't too sure myself until Randolphs were cleared.
[30:03] Speaker 3: You mean they were cleared when they confessed.
[30:05] Speaker 2: Oh, sure, that eliminated them. You see, in shielding each other,
[30:08] Speaker 2: they showed how they would behave in a crisis, and
[30:11] Speaker 2: they got a motion for them rising. But if either
[30:13] Speaker 2: one of them had murdered Joan, they wouldn't have left
[30:16] Speaker 2: that bracelet on her arms, That dazzling bit of evidence
[30:19] Speaker 2: would have inevitably committed one or both of them with
[30:21] Speaker 2: a murder.
[30:23] Speaker 3: But what first made you think it might be?
[30:25] Speaker 2: Send Sandra herself? She told me she'd been with Henre
[30:30] Speaker 2: a long time, and Henri told me Randolph had been
[30:33] Speaker 2: an old customer. She recognized his voice in Joan's dressing room.
[30:37] Speaker 2: She called him Bruce, and then caught herself. Well, once
[30:41] Speaker 2: I knew that, it was comparatively easy to check up
[30:43] Speaker 2: on history and find out more about Randolph and Sandra,
[30:46] Speaker 2: and then I had the motive. Yes, but Sandra, why
[30:50] Speaker 2: did it have to be sent? Oh ulysses? Underneath that
[30:55] Speaker 2: solown au Steer mask of yours is a heart just
[30:59] Speaker 2: palpitating Roman. Two Vega dream girls turned out to be
[31:04] Speaker 2: Lacrisia Borger. You have been listening to another in a
[31:14] Speaker 2: series of intriguing mysteries starring Gerald Morris, Bill Lance, with
[31:17] Speaker 2: Howard McNair's Ulysses Higgins. Tonight's supporting cast included Cliff Clark
[31:21] Speaker 2: as Inspector Holland, Georgia Alisis, Sandra leam Blascusenri Lauris Corbet's
[31:26] Speaker 2: Missus Randolph, Paul mcvayhus Mister Randolph, Charles Calvert as Kincaid.
[31:30] Speaker 2: Music composed and played by Rex Cory. Join us again
[31:35] Speaker 2: next week, same time, over most of these same ABC stations,
[31:38] Speaker 2: when we bring you another of Bill Lance's strange experiences
[31:41] Speaker 2: in a story titled Special Delivery. This Bill Lance Adventure
[31:48] Speaker 2: Death Rears a New Dress was written by Barbara and
[31:50] Speaker 2: Milton Merlin and directed by Dwitehauser. Now here's a special
[32:04] Speaker 2: program note. David Harding steps into a hot better intrigue
[32:09] Speaker 2: in the case of the phony passport paper. Don't miss
[32:12] Speaker 2: David Harding. Cant us by this afternoon on his name
[32:15] Speaker 2: ABC station. This is ABC, the American Broadcasting Company.
[32:19] Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, I enjoyed this one. I did think
[32:23] Speaker 1: that his solution that if either the husband or the
[32:29] Speaker 1: wife had committed the murder, they would have taken the
[32:32] Speaker 1: bracelet with them. It's kind of making a big bet
[32:35] Speaker 1: on people thinking clearly in a very emotional situation. Criminals
[32:41] Speaker 1: do make these sort of mistakes in real life. I
[32:45] Speaker 1: think it's tricky in fiction because you don't want to
[32:48] Speaker 1: rely too much on your criminal being stupid or making
[32:53] Speaker 1: a dumb mistake. But you also want to have that
[32:56] Speaker 1: realism with that criminals do make mistakes. But other than that,
[33:00] Speaker 1: this episode was a lot of fun. I continue to
[33:03] Speaker 1: enjoy just the relationship between Bill and Ulysses. And of
[33:08] Speaker 1: course Howard mcneer is always a lot to listen to,
[33:12] Speaker 1: and this is a recurring role where he's able to
[33:15] Speaker 1: play to the eccentricity that so many of his characters possess,
[33:24] Speaker 1: you know, even in the one shots where he's playing
[33:27] Speaker 1: suspects on something like let George do It or Yours
[33:31] Speaker 1: Truly Johnny Doller. Also we got to hear Leon Blasco
[33:37] Speaker 1: in something other than The Man called Acts. That was
[33:40] Speaker 1: a question you know, Bill asked like a few months back,
[33:43] Speaker 1: and so it was nice to be able to illustrate
[33:46] Speaker 1: that on the program. The idea of a criminologist using
[33:50] Speaker 1: psychological clues to solve crimes was not unheard of. During
[33:55] Speaker 1: the Golden Ajor Radio we played a series a few
[33:58] Speaker 1: years back called The Crime Files of Lamond. However, I
[34:02] Speaker 1: think this series is actually a bit more enjoyable to
[34:06] Speaker 1: listen to. It's got quite a bit more charm and
[34:09] Speaker 1: the music element works well too. All right, well, now
[34:13] Speaker 1: I want to go ahead and thank our Patreon supporter
[34:15] Speaker 1: of the day. Thank you to Vincent, Patreon supporter since
[34:19] Speaker 1: June of twenty nineteen, currently supporting us at the rookie

[34:26] Speaker 1: much for your support, Vincent, and that will do it
[34:29] Speaker 1: for today. A reminder that if you do enjoy the podcast,
