[2:21] Speaker 4: them the fact that you're a very disturbing person. Perhaps
[2:25] Speaker 4: that's my answer answer to what may I ask.
[2:28] Speaker 5: Why you phoned me the moment I returned from Bermuda.
[2:31] Speaker 5: I've been wondering why you're gonna plan me with a
[2:33] Speaker 5: football game, a dinner.
[2:35] Speaker 6: And a play.
[2:35] Speaker 3: Oh why not just relax and enjoy it?
[2:37] Speaker 5: I'd like to, particularly when I remember that last evening
[2:41] Speaker 5: we spent together in Bermuda.
[2:43] Speaker 6: Before you had to fly back to the States on
[2:46] Speaker 6: some nasty murder business or other.
[2:48] Speaker 3: Yes, there was quite an evening, wasn't it.
[2:51] Speaker 4: White. Do you know you're very beautiful?
[2:54] Speaker 6: I've always enjoyed your thinking.
[2:56] Speaker 4: So Simon, Well, inasmuch as I have a tremendous distaste
[2:59] Speaker 4: form are interfering with moonlight, I now intend.
[3:02] Speaker 3: To take up where we left off.
[3:04] Speaker 6: Little football game.
[3:06] Speaker 4: Oh well, it'll be a good game. As a matter
[3:08] Speaker 4: of fact, it had better be the trouble I had
[3:10] Speaker 4: digging up tickets for it. Well, here we are, anne, My, how.
[3:15] Speaker 6: Things have changed since I was in Bermuda.
[3:18] Speaker 5: Imagine then holding football games and cigar stores instead of stadium.
[3:22] Speaker 4: It happens to be Tony Kartago's little establishment. There's an
[3:26] Speaker 4: office inside where Tony conducts his main business, which consists
[3:30] Speaker 4: of handling bets and scalping tickets.
[3:32] Speaker 6: Oh you do know the loveliest people, Simon, for which
[3:36] Speaker 6: you should offer thanks.
[3:37] Speaker 4: We couldn't get any seats to today's game otherwise, Tony has.
[3:41] Speaker 3: A couple of points. Oh well, didn't your mother ever tell.
[3:45] Speaker 4: You there's not polite to go running into people.
[3:46] Speaker 6: That well, I'm terribly sorry I didn't see you.
[3:50] Speaker 4: My apology not bad nice manners too. Wonderfhy she came
[3:56] Speaker 4: tearing out of Tony's that way?
[3:58] Speaker 6: If you're interested, Tony can probably tell you. I wonder
[4:01] Speaker 6: where I've seen that girl before?
[4:03] Speaker 4: Some harpies, how while I am, oh, someplace?
[4:14] Speaker 5: I bet you couldn't buy cigars in here for love
[4:16] Speaker 5: of money.
[4:17] Speaker 4: And I'm not sucking enough to layouts against that. And
[4:20] Speaker 4: the real business is conducted right in here?
[4:24] Speaker 6: Are you?
[4:24] Speaker 3: Tony?
[4:25] Speaker 4: I want you to hey, you let me stand back in?
[4:29] Speaker 4: My old grandmother would often say.
[4:30] Speaker 5: Yes, I see he's been shot, hasn't be.
[4:34] Speaker 4: Afraid, so he's still alive, though, Tony, Tony, who did it?
[4:40] Speaker 3: Can you hear me? Tony? Who guns you?
[4:45] Speaker 4: No?
[4:46] Speaker 3: I didn't Duke.
[4:50] Speaker 4: He knows it's me, Tony Temper who shot you? Don't know?
[4:56] Speaker 4: Bun's affect when that uh uh.
[5:05] Speaker 6: Oh, Simon, he is, well.
[5:08] Speaker 4: There's nothing to do but call the police.
[5:10] Speaker 5: Why Simon, the saint calling in the police on a case?
[5:14] Speaker 6: What's happened to you?
[5:15] Speaker 4: It's very simple, and I'm much more interested in the
[5:18] Speaker 4: beautiful woman.
[5:19] Speaker 5: Oh thank you? Well, why don't you call them?
[5:28] Speaker 6: Oh a visiting?
[5:30] Speaker 4: Two visitors, darling, A man and a gun.
[5:32] Speaker 3: That won's getting kind of heavy and mister.
[5:35] Speaker 4: The phone, yes, he has, come to think of it,
[5:38] Speaker 4: he is kind of heavy at that.
[5:39] Speaker 3: I'll take care of it better.
[5:43] Speaker 4: You know, you're the second person we've met today who
[5:45] Speaker 4: should read Emily post.
[5:46] Speaker 3: Don't you know?
[5:47] Speaker 4: It isn't polite to point at people, particularly with a gun.
[5:50] Speaker 4: And it's also been polite to.
[5:51] Speaker 5: Tell you you see what he means, Darling, he wants
[5:55] Speaker 5: you to shut up?
[5:56] Speaker 4: Is that I wondered what he was driving? That's very fun.
[5:59] Speaker 4: So glad you liked it, so I have a better routine.
[6:02] Speaker 7: It goes im, Get up, Simon, you killed him just sleeping.
[6:14] Speaker 4: Maybe that gun over his head will learn him a
[6:16] Speaker 4: thing or two.
[6:17] Speaker 3: And if you're a smart you won't kick up any fuss.
[6:20] Speaker 3: They just as soon kiss you too.
[6:23] Speaker 4: Kiss me yeah, with the butt of my gun.
[6:27] Speaker 8: No lives baby, Simon, wake up, Simon, Wake.
[6:45] Speaker 3: Simon, wake d Let's leave it later. Call Simon all right, man, Hey,
[6:52] Speaker 3: what goes on here?
[6:53] Speaker 5: We're tired of Yes, he thought would be more tractable
[6:57] Speaker 5: that way.
[6:58] Speaker 3: You know something, He's right? Where are we? How'd we
[7:02] Speaker 3: get here? Uh?
[7:02] Speaker 6: Pete.
[7:03] Speaker 5: He's a guy who counked you, and a buddy of
[7:06] Speaker 5: his named Louis brought us here. It's a warehouse of
[7:08] Speaker 5: some kind. We're in one of the storage bins on
[7:11] Speaker 5: the first floor.
[7:12] Speaker 4: I'm nice.
[7:13] Speaker 3: We stored away for the window. No.
[7:15] Speaker 5: No, with a little luck, we'll be out of here
[7:17] Speaker 5: in five minutes.
[7:18] Speaker 3: Mistaken identity. And I'm not superman.
[7:21] Speaker 4: And these ropes are pretty tight and.
[7:23] Speaker 5: Strong, darling yours maybe, but mine I I've had them
[7:27] Speaker 5: loose enough to throw off of fifteen minutes. I was
[7:29] Speaker 5: just waiting for you to wake up.
[7:30] Speaker 3: No, don't tell me you're a superwoman.
[7:32] Speaker 5: No, no, I owed all to dear sweet Louis. Well.
[7:37] Speaker 5: I looked at him piteously out of my big blue eyes.
[7:40] Speaker 5: He just couldn't tie me up too tightly. I worked
[7:43] Speaker 5: myself free while you were sleeping soundly in the corner.
[7:46] Speaker 4: Never again, Will I underestimate the persuasive powers of women?
[7:50] Speaker 3: And see what you can do about getting me loose.
[7:52] Speaker 4: Hi, there's a little knife in my vest pocket that
[7:54] Speaker 4: might help this a right.
[7:57] Speaker 5: I've got it, you know, Simon. I just remember who
[8:01] Speaker 5: that girl was we saw running out of Tony's place.
[8:04] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[8:04] Speaker 4: Who is she?
[8:05] Speaker 6: Betty Streeter?
[8:06] Speaker 5: She ah, there, I fixed up your hands.
[8:09] Speaker 4: Thanks, let's have the nice I'll get my legs loose myself.
[8:13] Speaker 4: Betty's Streeter, the luscious lollipop, who's picture has been in
[8:16] Speaker 4: the newspapers lately over an engagements home.
[8:19] Speaker 5: Yes, that's right, she's engaged to Jack Lynn as an
[8:21] Speaker 5: old boyfriend of mine.
[8:23] Speaker 6: Oh, lucky girl. Jack is so handsome, and.
[8:29] Speaker 4: That's very interesting.
[8:32] Speaker 3: There the legs loose. Now, let's see if I can
[8:35] Speaker 3: stand up there?
[8:36] Speaker 4: How do you feel outside of.
[8:38] Speaker 3: That bomb burst in my head and.
[8:40] Speaker 4: The fact that my legs are apparently cut off of
[8:42] Speaker 4: the Kia?
[8:43] Speaker 6: Simon, someone's coming.
[8:45] Speaker 4: Spit those ropes over you. Lie down the floor quick
[8:48] Speaker 4: when he comes in, make with those baby blues and
[8:50] Speaker 4: attract his attention for a minute. I'll be behind the door. Well,
[8:53] Speaker 4: I won't be dealing a hand of cannastic.
[9:00] Speaker 6: Whoa, hello, Pee? How do you feel?
[9:04] Speaker 4: Just come back?
[9:06] Speaker 3: I had a boyfriend worthy here.
[9:07] Speaker 4: I am Pete with a peachy pea.
[9:12] Speaker 6: Now that's what I call more like it.
[9:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, better pick up pop. I know it's got here.
[9:20] Speaker 6: That's the first sensible thing you've said today. Let's what's
[9:25] Speaker 6: that noise, Sona?
[9:26] Speaker 4: I don't know, but it sounds like my head feels.
[9:29] Speaker 4: There's no time to delve into strange noises. Now, come on,
[9:32] Speaker 4: let's go quiet.
[9:34] Speaker 3: And I wonder if louis the other mug is hanging around.
[9:37] Speaker 5: No no, After Pete searched you and didn't find anything.
[9:41] Speaker 6: I heard him say he was going to report to
[9:42] Speaker 6: the boss.
[9:43] Speaker 4: Because he's still reporting, then he seems deserted. Oh look
[9:48] Speaker 4: there's the front door, and let's head for it.
[9:55] Speaker 6: Well, it's certainly nice to be out of there.
[10:00] Speaker 3: What was the name of that girl again?
[10:02] Speaker 5: Girl?
[10:03] Speaker 6: Oh Betty Streeter.
[10:04] Speaker 4: Why look at the sign on this building?
[10:07] Speaker 5: Sign Simon, it says Streeters ware House.
[10:12] Speaker 4: Yeah that's what it says, doesn't it. Come on, man,
[10:15] Speaker 4: let's find out what this is all about.
[10:17] Speaker 5: Simon Darling, I thought you were going to call the police.
[10:20] Speaker 4: And Darling, that was before Pete hit me over the
[10:23] Speaker 4: head with his gun bow.
[10:24] Speaker 5: Oh, I was afraid of that. Okay, what's our first stop?
[10:28] Speaker 3: First we find ourselves a nice telephone directory.
[10:30] Speaker 6: Yeah, I ask why?
[10:32] Speaker 3: To find out what street the streeters live on? Yess?
[10:53] Speaker 6: Hello Jack? Remember me?
[10:56] Speaker 3: Remember you?
[10:57] Speaker 4: Oh?
[10:58] Speaker 3: And sweetheart, if you don't think so, get a load.
[11:00] Speaker 6: Of this.
[11:04] Speaker 1: Jack.
[11:05] Speaker 5: That's her rather warm greeting after all these years. Oh oh, yes, Simon,
[11:11] Speaker 5: I want you to meet an old friend of mine, Jack, Landers. Jack,
[11:14] Speaker 5: this is Simon template.
[11:16] Speaker 4: Glad to see a template, but not as glad as
[11:18] Speaker 4: you are to see Yeah, well not quite. Come on in,
[11:21] Speaker 4: thank you?
[11:22] Speaker 3: What are you folks doing here? Anyhow?
[11:24] Speaker 6: We came to see Betty Street here.
[11:26] Speaker 4: This is where she lives, isn't it, Belly, Yes, remember
[11:28] Speaker 4: the girl you're engaged to. Sure, but along she's in
[11:32] Speaker 4: the living room with her father. Say, by the way, Landers,
[11:35] Speaker 4: you got a handkerchief you here?
[11:37] Speaker 3: Of course? What well? I have heard that miss placed
[11:40] Speaker 3: lipstick is.
[11:40] Speaker 4: A better detonator for atomic blast than plutonium and before
[11:43] Speaker 4: the two balls?
[11:45] Speaker 3: Maybe all right? Template? Well Betty Simon, hell smoke?
[11:49] Speaker 4: What was that?
[11:50] Speaker 3: Malither? Betty's involved in a premature explorsion that they were
[11:53] Speaker 3: shot to.
[11:53] Speaker 4: Come on and see the living room tublets to the
[11:55] Speaker 4: left time, which is way back at Betty Kelly, what.
[11:59] Speaker 7: Jack shot through the windows?
[12:02] Speaker 3: Look after mister Streeter. Jack, I'll take care of the
[12:04] Speaker 3: guy at the window.
[12:05] Speaker 6: To be careful.
[12:05] Speaker 5: Simony may still be out of here.
[12:08] Speaker 4: How he tells what they got a crack on the template?
[12:12] Speaker 6: Did you get him Jack?
[12:13] Speaker 3: I think I got him in the leg.
[12:14] Speaker 4: He stumbled after the first shop, but he got away
[12:16] Speaker 4: in that car. And now that quiet has descended once again,
[12:19] Speaker 4: it might be pertinent to inquire as to the state
[12:21] Speaker 4: of mister Streeter's health.
[12:23] Speaker 5: Oh, it's nothing serious, just a slight flash woods like wood.
[12:27] Speaker 9: He was like my whole Dad rested, arm has been
[12:29] Speaker 9: torn off.
[12:30] Speaker 4: Any idea who was so interested in perforating the street
[12:33] Speaker 4: of skin?
[12:33] Speaker 3: Mister Streeter, I'll say I have.
[12:36] Speaker 6: He was one of Dad's. No need to talk like.
[12:38] Speaker 4: That now, brested, Betty, there's no reason for me to
[12:41] Speaker 4: hide things. That crook's been trying to chisel in on
[12:43] Speaker 4: my warehouse business for over a year.
[12:46] Speaker 3: He's taking one of them over already. You couldn't possibly
[12:49] Speaker 3: be talking about Duke Raymond, could you? That's right? Templon.
[12:53] Speaker 4: He's threatened mister Streeter before books has aw He sent
[12:55] Speaker 4: one of his gunman around and forced that spot.
[12:57] Speaker 6: Oh you've got to give in to him. Next time
[13:00] Speaker 6: you won't be so lucky.
[13:02] Speaker 5: You ought to realize now that he won't stop at anything.
[13:04] Speaker 4: Give in. I hate to sound mercenary, mister Streeter, but
[13:08] Speaker 4: how much would it be worth to you to get
[13:10] Speaker 4: your skirts cleared of Duke Raymond? How much would it
[13:13] Speaker 4: be worth? Who are you?
[13:15] Speaker 3: My name is Simon Templar.
[13:17] Speaker 4: If that means anything to the saint, confess it?
[13:20] Speaker 3: Has that started in, Miss Streeter?
[13:22] Speaker 4: Oh?
[13:22] Speaker 1: Why why? I know not at all?
[13:25] Speaker 6: I just didn't expect of.
[13:26] Speaker 4: Course, after all, only sinners need be frightened by saints.
[13:30] Speaker 3: From mister Streeter, what do you say? All right?
[13:33] Speaker 4: I'll make you an offer ten thousand dollars if you
[13:36] Speaker 4: get Duke Raymond out of the way. Nothing If you don't,
[13:39] Speaker 4: You've just made yourself a deal, Simon.
[13:41] Speaker 6: You taking money for a case.
[13:43] Speaker 4: The jury's award damages for broken hearts, and and you
[13:47] Speaker 4: have no idea how badly I feel about letting Cupid down? Well,
[14:07] Speaker 4: Miss Morley, this is our famous riverfront.
[14:09] Speaker 3: How do you like it I do. Now there's the
[14:11] Speaker 3: spot we're heading for.
[14:12] Speaker 5: You see, well, I see some speedboats more than a dock, if.
[14:15] Speaker 6: That's what you're talking about. Any particular reason for coming.
[14:18] Speaker 4: Here, the usual reason. We're going for a little boat ride.
[14:22] Speaker 3: How much for the ride, buddy?
[14:24] Speaker 4: Two miles four mars?
[14:27] Speaker 3: That's fair enough? Come on, then let's get it.
[14:29] Speaker 9: You tell them more.
[14:30] Speaker 5: I think about this, Simon the crazier, I think you are.
[14:33] Speaker 5: Why would anyone want to travel twelve miles out into
[14:36] Speaker 5: the ocean to see Duke Raymond?
[14:38] Speaker 3: Of course?
[14:39] Speaker 5: Oh I see, Hey, he's playing far the Neptune on
[14:43] Speaker 5: top of the weight.
[14:44] Speaker 3: I presume not exactly.
[14:45] Speaker 4: You'll see when we get out there, and I'll expect
[14:48] Speaker 4: a great big apology for those words when we get back.
[14:51] Speaker 4: You mean, if you get back. I see that.
[14:55] Speaker 3: Man's here again. Tell me pe D, my friend, what
[14:58] Speaker 3: are you doing here? You're coming along for a ye?
[15:00] Speaker 3: That's right? Uh? You know, after paying a buck for
[15:04] Speaker 3: twelve miles out and twelve.
[15:05] Speaker 4: Miles back, I think I've got a right to be
[15:07] Speaker 4: particular about the kind of company I have. Well, don't
[15:10] Speaker 4: let a body fella's gun in my hand makes us
[15:13] Speaker 4: equals besides, you better pen me half a buck.
[15:16] Speaker 6: Why only half a dollar, peach.
[15:18] Speaker 4: Because it's cheaper by the dozen. Right, Yeah, you'll get
[15:22] Speaker 4: the idea. Now, you may be going twelve miles out,
[15:26] Speaker 4: but I don't think you're ever coming back, you know, Pete,
[15:42] Speaker 4: this ride hasn't been very comfortable so far. That gun's
[15:45] Speaker 4: sticking in my back irritations. Yeah, it's too bad and sympathetic,
[15:50] Speaker 4: so aren't you. Well?
[15:51] Speaker 3: The ride's nearly over and there's Duke Raymond up ahead.
[15:55] Speaker 6: That's funny. I don't see anything but an old freighter
[15:57] Speaker 6: out there.
[15:58] Speaker 4: That said letting the black dude's the black juice weighting
[16:04] Speaker 4: the quaint ship. Gambling is a special thing.
[16:07] Speaker 6: And I always thought that was against.
[16:09] Speaker 4: The law, that when you're twelve miles out and your
[16:11] Speaker 4: Duke Raymond, it isn't you see.
[16:14] Speaker 6: There's not a cabin cruiser coming up behind it.
[16:17] Speaker 3: It's coming up fast too, and no lights on. I
[16:19] Speaker 3: don't like it. I don't like it at all.
[16:20] Speaker 5: Oh, don't worry, Pete, it's just pulling ahead of us.
[16:23] Speaker 3: I guess, hey, hey, what do you think of doing.
[16:27] Speaker 6: The botch hardest?
[16:28] Speaker 4: Go into it?
[16:30] Speaker 3: It's gonna rabbit?
[16:44] Speaker 4: How are you doing it all right?
[16:47] Speaker 9: So far not much, just a couple of mores, you'll
[16:52] Speaker 9: do it and a girl just two more?
[16:57] Speaker 4: Now, oh, I thought.
[17:04] Speaker 3: Must have been.
[17:07] Speaker 4: Climb on board. Okay, now that does it? Okay, give
[17:14] Speaker 4: me your hand. He does it.
[17:22] Speaker 6: Quite an experience, I'd say.
[17:25] Speaker 4: Where are We're in a speedboat more to the Black Deuse,
[17:30] Speaker 4: which reminds me it's time to go to work.
[17:33] Speaker 6: You're not actually going aboard that ship, are you?
[17:36] Speaker 3: That was my original intention, wasn't it.
[17:38] Speaker 4: Besides Keat and his boyfriend will drowned if I don't
[17:40] Speaker 4: get help out to him.
[17:41] Speaker 6: And you've got to earn that ten thousand.
[17:43] Speaker 4: Dollars I know, right as usually angels now listening closely,
[17:49] Speaker 4: Do you know how to run a speedboat? Yes? Yes
[17:51] Speaker 4: I do, and I've got a funny idea. You're going
[17:53] Speaker 4: to have to run one in a very few minutes.
[18:10] Speaker 3: I do, Oh you.
[18:12] Speaker 4: I'm Simon Temple, the man Pete was supposed to bring
[18:16] Speaker 4: in part in the wet.
[18:17] Speaker 3: Clothes this damn sea air, you know, worsh pate.
[18:20] Speaker 4: The last time I saw him, he was hanging on
[18:22] Speaker 4: to a wrecked speedboat a couple of hundred yards away,
[18:24] Speaker 4: hanging on, or come on, get out of the cases,
[18:28] Speaker 4: templer watch the racket, said, Duke, I have a funny
[18:31] Speaker 4: hunch you're gonna lay off Streeter's business, am I What
[18:35] Speaker 4: makes you think so? It's a possible murder? Rap kids talking?
[18:40] Speaker 4: Tony Kataker was bumped off. Why you're so smart you
[18:44] Speaker 4: wouldn't know? Maybe I do. I guess it was because
[18:48] Speaker 4: he knew too much about bonds. Yeah, you know, securities,
[18:53] Speaker 4: negotiable ones with a lot of dough.
[18:55] Speaker 3: Well, dice you get that idea from Tony? He talked
[18:58] Speaker 3: before he died.
[18:59] Speaker 4: He mentioned you and barn Tony always talk too much.
[19:04] Speaker 4: You talk too much too beginning to get what you mean?
[19:08] Speaker 4: I thought you would, you know, Duke, there you are
[19:11] Speaker 4: sitting behind that desk with a gun in your hand.
[19:14] Speaker 4: I wonder you wonder what I wonder how you'd look
[19:18] Speaker 4: with that desk on top of you. Too bad, Duke,
[19:22] Speaker 4: you miss me? Sorry, I can't do the same. Imagine that,
[19:28] Speaker 4: Duke Raymond sleeping during business hours. You're never going ahead
[19:32] Speaker 4: that way, Oh boy, Horatio Algae would positively frowl upon you.
[19:47] Speaker 4: Nice going, Anne, thank you kindly for picking me up
[19:49] Speaker 4: out of the water.
[19:50] Speaker 5: Might know what was gonna happen. I wouldn't have when
[19:53] Speaker 5: I saw you dive off that rail and all those
[19:55] Speaker 5: people started shooting at me.
[19:56] Speaker 3: Oh, just a necessary unpleasantness. Nice weeet, I had to get.
[20:00] Speaker 4: It's an information from Duke about bonds box.
[20:03] Speaker 3: You're going to play the market right now.
[20:05] Speaker 4: I'm playing the field and there's a murderer in it,
[20:08] Speaker 4: and I'm going to start at mister Streeter's.
[20:10] Speaker 3: Warehouse that way.
[20:32] Speaker 6: The warehouse is over to the left side.
[20:34] Speaker 3: Sure, but we're going next door.
[20:35] Speaker 6: And just what do you expect to find the issue?
[20:38] Speaker 3: A printing press? Of course?
[20:41] Speaker 4: There you see the Travers Printing Company.
[20:43] Speaker 6: Well, I see it, but I can't understand it. How
[20:46] Speaker 6: did you know this.
[20:46] Speaker 5: Place was here?
[20:47] Speaker 6: And why I look for?
[20:49] Speaker 3: Tony Cartaker told me to look for one just before
[20:51] Speaker 3: he died.
[20:52] Speaker 4: And as for this place, you remember the thumping noise
[20:55] Speaker 4: we heard as we were leaving the warehouse.
[20:56] Speaker 6: Why, of course it was made by a printing press.
[21:00] Speaker 4: That's what I thought.
[21:00] Speaker 6: Well, shall we go in this ho it's so dark,
[21:04] Speaker 6: nobody'll be in there.
[21:05] Speaker 4: Two facts would impress me no end. Now let me
[21:08] Speaker 4: see I should have some keys in my pocket.
[21:10] Speaker 6: Why bother that door is already partially open.
[21:14] Speaker 4: Right, Oh, this is blackest pitch in here. You can't
[21:25] Speaker 4: risk a light until we're sure it's empty.
[21:27] Speaker 6: There's a crack of light over.
[21:28] Speaker 5: There, seemed to come from a doorway into another room.
[21:31] Speaker 6: I'm wondering. I hit my foot against something. It's something soft.
[21:40] Speaker 4: You don't say. Suppose you look up at this evening
[21:43] Speaker 4: while I shine this pencil? Flash down? Oh, Sime perfectly expressed.
[21:50] Speaker 6: He's dead, isn't he?
[21:51] Speaker 4: If he's not, he's been tied up, gagged, strangled and
[21:54] Speaker 4: shot in the leg. Who is he? I think he's
[21:57] Speaker 4: the gentleman who tried to kill mister Street. How do
[21:59] Speaker 4: you because Jack shot him in the leg. Remember he's
[22:03] Speaker 4: probably mister Travers, the printer.
[22:06] Speaker 6: What is it silent? Why did you turn off the light?
[22:09] Speaker 4: Because that light in the other room just went out?
[22:11] Speaker 4: And I hate to be a non conformist. Where are
[22:15] Speaker 4: you going going to step over there and see what's up?
[22:17] Speaker 4: Be careful? You all right? I'm not sure, but I'll
[22:25] Speaker 4: risk it.
[22:25] Speaker 3: I'm going after him.
[22:26] Speaker 6: Look what's wrong?
[22:32] Speaker 3: Whoever it was locked and bolted this door, I'll have
[22:35] Speaker 3: to pick it down.
[22:39] Speaker 6: Someone may still be in there, and you.
[22:41] Speaker 4: Have the most pessimistic thoughts. May not find the light switching.
[22:48] Speaker 6: Wow, nobody's here. He must have gone out that window.
[22:51] Speaker 4: And if I hadn't been idiot enough to bump into
[22:53] Speaker 4: something in the darkest case, might have been over by now.
[22:56] Speaker 6: Either that or you'd have been danced. When are you using?
[23:01] Speaker 4: So that's the frame under that lead pot over there?
[23:04] Speaker 4: What's cookie prints?
[23:06] Speaker 3: Used them to melt their old line type slugs in?
[23:09] Speaker 6: But why would that be going?
[23:10] Speaker 3: Now?
[23:11] Speaker 6: Do you think the killer left?
[23:13] Speaker 4: There was a reason I wanted you along tonight?
[23:15] Speaker 3: You've just hit it.
[23:17] Speaker 4: There's the types, And see those engraved copper and zinc
[23:20] Speaker 4: plates on that work table. If we'd come in a
[23:22] Speaker 4: few minutes later, they'd have been in that lead pot.
[23:26] Speaker 3: I'm not so good at reading upside down and backwards.
[23:29] Speaker 4: But uh, six percent the venturous state of secured highway taxes.
[23:41] Speaker 3: So that's it.
[23:42] Speaker 6: What would you mind explaining, so, Dada darling.
[23:45] Speaker 4: First, I've got a little surprise party to prepare.
[23:48] Speaker 6: Surprise party.
[23:49] Speaker 4: Yeah, as soon as I removed the handkerchief gag from
[23:52] Speaker 4: mister Travis, send a message to Duke Raymond and make
[23:55] Speaker 4: a few phone calls.
[23:56] Speaker 3: We'll go to the scene of the party.
[23:57] Speaker 6: How nice. Now, what's gonna happen from there?
[24:00] Speaker 3: What usually happens at a surprise party?
[24:02] Speaker 6: Oh, don't tell me.
[24:03] Speaker 5: I know one very foxy murderer is going to get
[24:07] Speaker 5: a great, big surprise. So the surprise party is going
[24:23] Speaker 5: to be at Tony Carteko's place.
[24:25] Speaker 3: Right, you are in there, it is?
[24:26] Speaker 6: Now what's gonna happen? Simon? All I know is that
[24:29] Speaker 6: you call a lot of.
[24:30] Speaker 5: People in a disguised voice and told them something about
[24:32] Speaker 5: bonds and Tony's why.
[24:35] Speaker 3: And if you look inside the Sagar store, what do
[24:37] Speaker 3: you think?
[24:38] Speaker 5: There's a light inside?
[24:39] Speaker 4: Correct?
[24:40] Speaker 3: That must mean one of the guests is arrived.
[24:43] Speaker 4: Not quiet as we go in, I want to see
[24:45] Speaker 4: if that's an early bird or a word.
[24:54] Speaker 5: Seems to be awfully busy looking for something.
[24:57] Speaker 4: The poor soul find you?
[25:01] Speaker 3: Hello, Betty? Hello, what's the matter?
[25:04] Speaker 4: Betty?
[25:04] Speaker 3: Looking for some bonds?
[25:07] Speaker 4: Bond?
[25:07] Speaker 3: So the ones you were called about this morning?
[25:10] Speaker 6: I don't know what you're talking about at.
[25:12] Speaker 4: Betty, that'll never do. However, I wasn't the one who
[25:15] Speaker 4: called you this morning.
[25:17] Speaker 6: What did you know about that?
[25:19] Speaker 4: Hey?
[25:19] Speaker 3: Wait, tell the body jeff Hello there, all right, Jeffery.
[25:23] Speaker 4: What's just short about? Hello, gentlemen, nice of you to come,
[25:26] Speaker 4: mister Steeter, Jack, I was just talking to Betty about
[25:29] Speaker 4: that phone call of this morning.
[25:31] Speaker 3: What did you call her?
[25:31] Speaker 4: Say, Betty, something about your father's life being endangered over
[25:35] Speaker 4: some bonds and that you better get down here fast
[25:37] Speaker 4: to save him. My life in danger?
[25:40] Speaker 3: Kind of nonsense? Is that? It wasn't nonsense to Betty?
[25:43] Speaker 3: She came down here all right.
[25:44] Speaker 4: We walked in right after Betty left and found Tony
[25:47] Speaker 4: Cortego dead. Now just a minute, you're making a pretty
[25:50] Speaker 4: dangerous accusation. There temp weapons to be true, mister Streeter.
[25:54] Speaker 4: Duke Raymond forced you to sell him that warehouse next
[25:57] Speaker 4: to the Travis Printing Company, didn't he, Yeah, and it
[26:00] Speaker 4: took a lot of force. You ruined the business by
[26:03] Speaker 4: destroying merchandise, wrecking trucks, usual racketeering message.
[26:08] Speaker 3: I had to sell stop losing money.
[26:10] Speaker 4: Maybe you better not talk so much straight, Yeah, maybe
[26:14] Speaker 4: you won't be healthy well more, guess Duke Raymond and Pete. Yeah,
[26:18] Speaker 4: that's right, Zapper. What gives here?
[26:20] Speaker 3: And that's a rather silly questioned duke. You came here
[26:23] Speaker 3: looking for bonds, didn't you?
[26:25] Speaker 4: So your message was a frame at them only in
[26:28] Speaker 4: a manner of speaking. Chum, someone in this room mode
[26:30] Speaker 4: you money from gambling, didn't they do? And promised to
[26:33] Speaker 4: pay negotiable securities to be left until called for Here
[26:36] Speaker 4: at Tony Corka goes sure.
[26:38] Speaker 3: Story template keeps talking.
[26:40] Speaker 4: But when Pete came to pick up the bonds for you,
[26:42] Speaker 4: they were missing and Tony was dead.
[26:44] Speaker 3: It's lucky for you too.
[26:46] Speaker 4: If you tried to sell those.
[26:47] Speaker 3: Bonds, you'd have been arrested. They were forgeries, follies. You're
[26:51] Speaker 3: sure about that. I know it, and I can prove it.
[26:53] Speaker 6: I surprise, surprise.
[26:55] Speaker 3: What do you think of your gambling friend now, Duke.
[26:58] Speaker 4: A dirty jubble for with all that doe in the
[27:02] Speaker 4: family too? Oh, lon gonna.
[27:05] Speaker 3: You don't do it? Stop right there, he's got a gun.
[27:08] Speaker 6: I was thinking, Jack, Oh.
[27:11] Speaker 4: No, Jack, not you pretty sharp bunch of tepler got
[27:14] Speaker 4: it all figured out.
[27:15] Speaker 3: Oh, I've been known to get around landers anyway. It
[27:17] Speaker 3: was rather obvious to take it. After you kissed Anne, after.
[27:22] Speaker 6: He kissed me? What did that have to do with it?
[27:24] Speaker 4: Well, you see, and I get something to safe first.
[27:33] Speaker 2: He did, My dear, thanks for keeping him busy well,
[27:40] Speaker 2: I went to my gun.
[27:41] Speaker 3: Oh, think nothing of it, Pete. And to show my appreciation.
[27:44] Speaker 4: Here, what's the big guy did, Duke. Let's not be hasty,
[27:49] Speaker 4: shall we. I've got a gun too, the one I
[27:51] Speaker 4: borrowed from you. Aboard your ship. Get on the phone
[27:53] Speaker 4: and call the police for you, mister Streeter. Get out
[27:56] Speaker 4: your check book. The amount is ten thousand payable to
[27:59] Speaker 4: your face Favor charity, your friend, Duke Graymond won't bother
[28:02] Speaker 4: you again for a long long time. It's like another
[28:17] Speaker 4: drinking No.
[28:18] Speaker 5: Thank you, Simon, I suppose I should thank you for
[28:22] Speaker 5: a lovely day.
[28:24] Speaker 4: It had its points, but the football game might have
[28:26] Speaker 4: been more exciting. I doubt it.
[28:28] Speaker 6: But I still need some answers.
[28:30] Speaker 3: But don't you see?
[28:31] Speaker 4: And Jack was terrified when he couldn't pay Duke the
[28:34] Speaker 4: huge gambling daddy Odin, so he hit on the idea
[28:37] Speaker 4: of forging bonds. He had Travers print them.
[28:39] Speaker 6: But I still don't understand why he killed Trout.
[28:43] Speaker 4: He had to make sure the travers wouldn't talk, So
[28:45] Speaker 4: when Jack went to the print shop to destroy the
[28:47] Speaker 4: evidence of the forged plates, he destroyed Travers.
[28:50] Speaker 5: Duke, Yes, before I was Tony killed.
[28:52] Speaker 4: Tony held the bonds for Duke, but when he discovered
[28:55] Speaker 4: they were forged, he called the streeter home that he
[28:58] Speaker 4: got the message and hurried down to see what it
[29:00] Speaker 4: was all about.
[29:00] Speaker 3: She thought Tony was talking about her.
[29:02] Speaker 5: Fun and Jack was there over to the conversation and
[29:05] Speaker 5: beat her to Tony right, and he tried to kill
[29:08] Speaker 5: us with the cruise that to stop us from getting
[29:09] Speaker 5: dukestorem n oka after mind, I guess I've got it,
[29:15] Speaker 5: except for.
[29:15] Speaker 6: That crack about the kiss.
[29:18] Speaker 5: How come you knew Jack Landers was guilty because he
[29:20] Speaker 5: kissed me?
[29:21] Speaker 3: Lipstick? What?
[29:24] Speaker 6: Lipstick?
[29:24] Speaker 4: Yeah? Now you see after you kissed him, he had
[29:28] Speaker 4: lipstick all over his face. When I called it to
[29:31] Speaker 4: his attention, he wiped it off with his handkerchief. And
[29:34] Speaker 4: the handkerchief that gag travers had lipstick on it too.
[29:38] Speaker 6: Oh, and to think that just because he kissed me
[29:43] Speaker 6: he's dead.
[29:45] Speaker 4: I wouldn't feel that way about it if I were you.
[29:48] Speaker 4: Your kisses wouldn't kill anyone.
[29:50] Speaker 6: And I can prove it, can you, Simon?
[29:52] Speaker 3: Sure? Why there?
[29:57] Speaker 4: You see?
[29:58] Speaker 6: I guess you're right.
[30:00] Speaker 3: Please don't agree so quickly?
[30:01] Speaker 4: Why not? I'm seriously considering making a lifetime work out
[30:06] Speaker 4: of proving it.
[30:20] Speaker 2: You were listening to one other transcribed adventure of the
[30:22] Speaker 2: Saint the robin Hood of Modern Crime.
[30:24] Speaker 3: Now here's our starbands and Price, ladies and gentlemen.
[30:27] Speaker 4: In tonight's cast, you heard Charley Mitchell, Barbara Eiler, Jack Moyles,
[30:31] Speaker 4: Tom Brown, Edmund McDonald, and Anthony Barrett. This is Vincent
[30:35] Speaker 4: Price inviting you to join us again next week at
[30:37] Speaker 4: the same time for another exciting adventure of the Saint.
[30:41] Speaker 3: Good Night, Welcome Back.
[30:52] Speaker 1: Bess has to be considered an occupational hazard for dating
[30:57] Speaker 1: a great detective that a case will come up, but
[31:01] Speaker 1: I handed to Simon that overall it seemed like they
[31:04] Speaker 1: had a fun time and a good date, which you know,
[31:07] Speaker 1: when your life is in peril, that's kind of hard
[31:09] Speaker 1: to do, so hats off to him, and I have
[31:12] Speaker 1: to say this episode made me think back a little
[31:15] Speaker 1: bit to The Falcon, which we were playing last year,
[31:19] Speaker 1: about how it would have been interesting to have a case.
[31:23] Speaker 1: You know, because at the start of each episode Michael
[31:26] Speaker 1: Waring says, sorry, camp, go out on the date. It
[31:30] Speaker 1: would have been interesting to have an episode with The
[31:34] Speaker 1: Falcon actually on a date and having to solve the
[31:39] Speaker 1: mystery around that. Don't know if one of those actually exists.
[31:42] Speaker 1: A lot of lost episodes of that show, but I
[31:45] Speaker 1: think that would be interesting to hear. All right, well,
[31:48] Speaker 1: listener comments and feedback and a random Spotify user writes
[31:53] Speaker 1: in regarding the reflection on murder being a child of
[31:57] Speaker 1: the eighties, I can't believe you didn't mention Vincent Price
[32:01] Speaker 1: and the thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo. At the time,
[32:04] Speaker 1: that was the only thing I knew him for Now,
[32:06] Speaker 1: looking back, I can't believe they were able to obtain him. Well,
[32:10] Speaker 1: I will say that the series premiered back when I
[32:14] Speaker 1: was four, just set out on the road and didn't
[32:20] Speaker 1: have television, at least I don't remember having it, so
[32:24] Speaker 1: I missed that series. And when I caught Scooby Doo
[32:28] Speaker 1: when I was growing up, it was a pup named
[32:33] Speaker 1: Scooby Doo towards the end of the eighties, and then
[32:37] Speaker 1: I also saw some reruns of Scooby Do Where Are You?
[32:43] Speaker 1: The original series over on USA. Price's character, Vincent vang
[32:48] Speaker 1: Wool definitely left an impression on the franchise. Because there
[32:53] Speaker 1: was a series in the twenty tens of Scooby Doo
[32:57] Speaker 1: called Mystery Incorporating. I have to admit that I really
[33:02] Speaker 1: had not thought about Scooby Doo much at all since
[33:06] Speaker 1: I was I don't know, maybe eleven. There are franchises
[33:10] Speaker 1: that I was into as a kid that I maintained
[33:13] Speaker 1: some sort of interest in. This wasn't one of them.
[33:15] Speaker 1: But I heard about Mystery Incorporated and it was a
[33:19] Speaker 1: phenomenal series that had some fun with the original but
[33:24] Speaker 1: really respected the source material. And they included Vincent van
[33:30] Speaker 1: goul As a character voiced by the great Maurice Lamonche.
[33:34] Speaker 1: Not quite Bencent Price, but he does do his best
[33:38] Speaker 1: to create that effect. And I will added a bit
[33:41] Speaker 1: off topic that while I'm not generally a fan of
[33:45] Speaker 1: most twenty first century reboots, this was just a really
[33:50] Speaker 1: good series. So if you wanted some sort of family
[33:56] Speaker 1: based mystery with some good writing, some fun humor, and
[34:00] Speaker 1: a pretty satisfying conclusion, I can't recommend Mystery Incorporated enough.
[34:06] Speaker 1: All right, Well, now it's time to thank our Patreon
