[2:31] Speaker 6: This is a record of valorous men who served without
[2:33] Speaker 6: uniforms or medals or acclaim.
[2:36] Speaker 5: This is a story of the OSS.
[2:42] Speaker 3: The Second World War was already six months old when
[2:45] Speaker 3: a presidential directive careerated the Office of Predesious Services, the.
[2:49] Speaker 6: Famous OSS, a super secret intelligence service, the first espionage
[2:53] Speaker 6: system in the history of our nation. By the early
[2:56] Speaker 6: part of nineteen forty four, it had already trained sixty
[2:59] Speaker 6: sevent teams.
[3:00] Speaker 3: Boss agents, now a new class group sixty eight.
[3:03] Speaker 6: After careful and exhausted screening is taken under tight security
[3:07] Speaker 6: to a beautiful country club near Washington.
[3:09] Speaker 5: Threw up. That group are Jeff Lassiter and Bill O'Connell. Hey,
[3:13] Speaker 5: this is quite a place. Huh you luckie or your man?
[3:17] Speaker 3: Luxurious?
[3:17] Speaker 5: They said, we got to fund tune to the room.
[3:20] Speaker 5: Say you picked the roommate yet? No? Oh no that yeah, okay,
[3:23] Speaker 5: you got one. Name is Jeff Lassida Bill O'Connell.
[3:25] Speaker 4: Shake, all right, he's introduction party, then I am.
[3:30] Speaker 5: Isn't it a beauty for small all in a lot
[3:32] Speaker 5: of duty? They said, for personal assessment and further training. Rugged,
[3:36] Speaker 5: I should say so. The lounds like this k Leavit
[3:40] Speaker 5: Care Books magazine. We even got a backgammon set. That's right,
[3:44] Speaker 5: you play? Yeah? You want to take me on for
[3:47] Speaker 5: double games?
[3:47] Speaker 6: Sure?
[3:48] Speaker 5: I'm nice. I was vouched. I've always wanted to them
[3:50] Speaker 5: that game. Hey, look lad today, what do you say
[3:54] Speaker 5: we make it interesting? I just played for fun. O'conon, Well,
[3:57] Speaker 5: let's tell you what bound in the game. No, let's
[4:01] Speaker 5: make it up mediate all right, I'm gonna get it final? Sure,
[4:06] Speaker 5: what about it? I think that's crazy. As they play,
[4:14] Speaker 5: two other men are sitting in an office upstairs, Charles Gibson,
[4:17] Speaker 5: right hand man of the OSS Chief, and Bob Shunky,
[4:20] Speaker 5: former All American in charge of training. Get him started tomorrow, Bob,
[4:24] Speaker 5: in three months. They've got to be in shape to go.
[4:26] Speaker 5: They'll be in shape. That's my assignment. That's one of them.
[4:29] Speaker 5: What do you mean twenty two potential OSS agents.
[4:32] Speaker 7: All of them speak trains, one of them can speak German. Well,
[4:36] Speaker 7: you're good to find out who it is. Yeah, not
[4:39] Speaker 7: as easy as to sound fine, because one of your
[4:42] Speaker 7: students is a gemin agent.
[4:49] Speaker 8: All right, now, all right, I've got a couple of
[4:53] Speaker 8: things to say before you begin your active training from here.
[4:56] Speaker 8: In this work, pressure is on that right now. And
[5:00] Speaker 8: the use of the cover story a lot to lie
[5:02] Speaker 8: about who you are and what you're doing. This is
[5:05] Speaker 8: your most important defensive weapon. The enemy cracks your story
[5:09] Speaker 8: when you're in the.
[5:09] Speaker 5: Field, you'll be tortured. If you get a break, you'll
[5:14] Speaker 5: be shot. The average American is a good sport. He
[5:18] Speaker 5: plays for the rules. Well, no secret agent is a
[5:20] Speaker 5: good sport. That is no living agent.
[5:22] Speaker 8: He's going to be tough to kill, cheap, to rob,
[5:25] Speaker 8: to lie, and everything you learn is told.
[5:27] Speaker 5: One of death is just one, that's all. That's the
[5:30] Speaker 5: depth of your mission. Their praise, doubts, years of decency
[5:35] Speaker 5: you get all.
[5:36] Speaker 8: About him, are turning your suit because the enemy can
[5:39] Speaker 8: forget and has.
[5:42] Speaker 5: Okay, let's get the work. Got a lot to do
[5:44] Speaker 5: in the next three.
[5:45] Speaker 9: Months, long too, and I can hardly believe my own years.
[5:59] Speaker 5: You weren't the only one. Surprise Getty's for the.
[6:02] Speaker 8: Way they've been paying on twelve fourteen hours a day, hiking, swimming, lenning, how.
[6:07] Speaker 5: To kill and rob and steel out of send a
[6:09] Speaker 5: wireless message cold, how to make a Paris you jump,
[6:12] Speaker 5: And I'm getting your cover story down, patt. If I'm
[6:15] Speaker 5: not sure my name is last Year anymore, It's sure
[6:18] Speaker 5: it is again. I guess this means a lot to you. Man.
[6:22] Speaker 5: Getting back to France last I will find out them.
[6:26] Speaker 5: I've waited so long selling Coca mun gi U will
[6:38] Speaker 5: never give up. Yeah there, we've got an hour dinner.
[6:42] Speaker 5: How about the game? Sure? How much do you now?
[6:46] Speaker 5: Fifteen millions when I'm chopping at dog fifteen. I'll dig
[6:50] Speaker 5: you on this. The government will take most of the time.
[6:53] Speaker 5: Go ahead, Yeah You've got sorry man, that'll laugh away. Shucky,
[6:57] Speaker 5: what's up?
[6:58] Speaker 8: An hour early tonight start the field problem first stay
[7:01] Speaker 8: in the morning.
[7:06] Speaker 7: Do you think you found the master Bob, Yes, I'm
[7:09] Speaker 7: sure I have all right, who's the germination Mello O'Connell.
[7:13] Speaker 8: How does he know number one man in the class?
[7:16] Speaker 8: That was the tip off last night. I had him
[7:18] Speaker 8: trying to pump the bushot, trying to find out.
[7:20] Speaker 5: If she expected to go back to friends.
[7:22] Speaker 8: Then the field problem clinched it rather report. Yeah, that
[7:27] Speaker 8: tests design for them to make mistakes. They learned more
[7:29] Speaker 8: that way, but O'Connell didn't make any mistakes. Done through
[7:33] Speaker 8: it all before.
[7:35] Speaker 5: Name is cunsul. I'd bet five one of the best.
[7:38] Speaker 8: When you want to pick him up, I don't what,
[7:40] Speaker 8: and you mustn't know he's even suspected.
[7:42] Speaker 7: We had him paid for a long time. He got
[7:45] Speaker 7: the sentence book. What wouldn't be kinsled information? The second print?
[7:49] Speaker 5: We think, so where and when? Yes, they like to know.
[7:54] Speaker 5: That's a big shot. The German high commander is counting
[7:56] Speaker 5: on information. So we've got to arrange points of at
[8:00] Speaker 5: it the wrong information, and we've got to let him
[8:03] Speaker 5: take it back to them.
[8:04] Speaker 7: I see the plan will include a logical way for
[8:07] Speaker 7: him to make his to stay. It must be cleverly staved.
[8:10] Speaker 7: Remember we're dealing with a very smart man.
[8:13] Speaker 5: When do we start? When we get to England. I'll
[8:15] Speaker 5: leave tomorrow. You can follow with the group within a
[8:22] Speaker 5: few days.
[8:22] Speaker 8: Group sixty eight is gone to England and quarried in
[8:24] Speaker 8: the country house not far from London.
[8:26] Speaker 10: They are held there under tight security, leaving their assignments
[8:30] Speaker 10: and the plan of proceeds.
[8:32] Speaker 5: Okay, how old do you know Alan, I lived there
[8:35] Speaker 5: for two years. I know it very well. I thought so.
[8:39] Speaker 5: Oh currently, pictures change change. How do you mean you
[8:44] Speaker 5: read the papers there? Want to talk about a second front?
[8:47] Speaker 5: Everyone knows there's going to be one. You think of
[8:51] Speaker 5: contem but I think that can't come. That's somebody else's job.
[8:55] Speaker 5: We get to Bay Orders. Oh yes, for sure. I
[8:59] Speaker 5: haven't given a job. I need help.
[9:01] Speaker 8: Someone with a proper background, someone who's pools. He can
[9:03] Speaker 8: come through in a pinch.
[9:05] Speaker 5: You want to go to work. I didn't go through
[9:07] Speaker 5: all their training to be in English country gentlemen.
[9:10] Speaker 8: Okay, pack your dear. We're going up to London now
[9:12] Speaker 8: in ten minutes. No goodbye, is nothing, no word to
[9:14] Speaker 8: anyone about what I've said. Under tight security starting right now.
[9:18] Speaker 5: That clear, Yes, it's clear. Who do you think, Bob,
[9:25] Speaker 5: would you take the boot? I think so Gibson. I
[9:29] Speaker 5: put him in with undival. I'm intelligence, opened up everything to.
[9:32] Speaker 8: The maps, plans of forts, all our agents, and I
[9:35] Speaker 8: put six plans at his disposal.
[9:37] Speaker 5: He makes a break break and one of them. We're
[9:39] Speaker 5: okay this. He makes a break. Who's the pick for
[9:41] Speaker 5: the ruler job? Last day? The girl. They're on their
[9:45] Speaker 5: way down here. Now you're booking yourself good the afternoon last.
[9:57] Speaker 5: This is it.
[9:58] Speaker 8: This is the payoff already, I think so good. You're
[10:03] Speaker 8: going to France, you too, be dou The shod as
[10:05] Speaker 8: lack of it is communicated. I'll make it as brief
[10:08] Speaker 8: as I can. The Nancy's in a terrific new rocket
[10:10] Speaker 8: bomber carry the warhead with two tons of explosives.
[10:13] Speaker 5: For the last six months they've been.
[10:15] Speaker 8: Building up a huge stop, saving all our resources for
[10:17] Speaker 8: just one thing, the invasion version.
[10:21] Speaker 5: The bomb depot is somewhere between Cain and Lahart. That's
[10:24] Speaker 5: all we know. Even if Ich Underground hasn't been able
[10:26] Speaker 5: to spoduct for us, that's our job to find the
[10:29] Speaker 5: bomb people. Now that's a part of it.
[10:30] Speaker 8: To destroy it, we must know every detail of its construction.
[10:34] Speaker 8: One man can help us without her, Monsieur du bois.
[10:37] Speaker 8: This is his picture, then that name and picture on
[10:40] Speaker 8: your mind.
[10:42] Speaker 5: The success of your mission, possibly of the entire invasion,
[10:46] Speaker 5: is lint to that man. What's his collection of the
[10:50] Speaker 5: bomb people design and built? We want to talk to him.
[11:00] Speaker 8: Hey, hey, you well, I didn't know you were down
[11:06] Speaker 8: here in London where you walked off in the middle
[11:08] Speaker 8: of the life.
[11:08] Speaker 5: I know I had to live in a hurry. Oh
[11:12] Speaker 5: so John Peppy? Not much action though, it looks like
[11:15] Speaker 5: I'm grounded. What are you doing here? S pepping for
[11:18] Speaker 5: a mission?
[11:19] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[11:19] Speaker 5: Sorry, I can't tell you what I always knew you
[11:23] Speaker 5: were a bad investment. Wow you now thirteen million?
[11:27] Speaker 3: Fourteen?
[11:28] Speaker 5: I'll whittle it down when I get back. When are
[11:31] Speaker 5: you leaving? All for sure? And I wish I were
[11:34] Speaker 5: going with the kid me too? Well, I got a
[11:37] Speaker 5: run now I'm gonna seeing you bring me back a souvenir.
[11:39] Speaker 5: We don't paying you back. What about a Connor?
[11:46] Speaker 8: Do you think he's sold?
[11:47] Speaker 5: Set up so well? Trying to think Holland was the
[11:50] Speaker 5: right place myself.
[11:52] Speaker 8: He's playing his real stuff the quests coming from agents
[11:55] Speaker 8: and Holland before the request.
[11:56] Speaker 5: The suppliers gets there. He got to believe it, but
[11:59] Speaker 5: he hasn't lived. No we gets explained, could go anytime.
[12:06] Speaker 5: How do you feels be too hot that we're watching him?
[12:08] Speaker 5: We started, we might pick him off maybe, but in
[12:11] Speaker 5: a few days it'll be too late. Who's got to
[12:13] Speaker 5: get that misinformation back? Now? Of course? Uh? Wow? Those
[12:20] Speaker 5: we wants him to make his breaking send him? Is
[12:24] Speaker 5: what his chance in a silver platter? Oh? The logical
[12:28] Speaker 5: reason to leave?
[12:29] Speaker 8: Maybe maybe we even send them ourselves, send them on
[12:34] Speaker 8: a pawnee mission. We're getting information account of it. We
[12:43] Speaker 8: aren't getting enough. The Germans think we're going to France.
[12:45] Speaker 8: That's fine, but what do they expect about Holland?
[12:49] Speaker 5: Not stupid? You know, we must know if that there
[12:52] Speaker 5: bearing Holland too would where We've got to send someone
[12:55] Speaker 5: over there to find out for it. Yes, good man,
[12:58] Speaker 5: that's we have some one who knows Holland as well
[13:02] Speaker 5: as you do.
[13:03] Speaker 8: I know the man who me.
[13:05] Speaker 5: Oh that doesn't make sense. I need to hear you talk.
[13:07] Speaker 5: Is important. It's more important to have the right man
[13:10] Speaker 5: over there. If I get it, it's impossible and I
[13:14] Speaker 5: don't know. I got to have that information. Let me go.
[13:18] Speaker 5: I'll get it for you.
[13:20] Speaker 8: I could take over your work here, I guess directly
[13:24] Speaker 8: in touch with me by radio O'Connor. I think I'll
[13:28] Speaker 8: take a chance.
[13:29] Speaker 5: I need some help.
[13:30] Speaker 8: I need a team, another man and a communicator will
[13:32] Speaker 8: be want plaster lady wi rafida.

[13:59] Speaker 5: same room with for months. It's crazy. I don't do
[14:02] Speaker 5: bad about it, laughing.
[14:03] Speaker 8: He's smart, one of the smartest men they have A
[14:06] Speaker 8: long time O'Connor alias Kuncil fooled me too. You understand
[14:12] Speaker 8: the entire fight up, Yes, sir, okay, I'll come to
[14:16] Speaker 8: the rabbit pot like the rest is easy.
[14:19] Speaker 5: We can go. Connel is sold. If we're right, we'll
[14:22] Speaker 5: make his break. We'll never see him again. But he's
[14:25] Speaker 5: not sold.
[14:26] Speaker 8: We should in any ways, suspect you on a double mission.
[14:29] Speaker 8: You're going to play it his way, his way? What's
[14:32] Speaker 8: that if he doesn't make his break or if he
[14:35] Speaker 8: tries to follow you, you're going to shoot him, Shoot
[14:39] Speaker 8: him and be sure it's for Keith.
[14:41] Speaker 5: Oh that's wrong, that's that's war O'Connor could do it,
[14:46] Speaker 5: can you? You know I can do it.
[14:51] Speaker 2: I can do it.
[15:09] Speaker 6: And so the curtain comes down on Act one now

[17:46] Speaker 8: The question is what did things Will know because he
[17:50] Speaker 8: had known about Lassiter's mission. No, they probably picked up
[17:54] Speaker 8: Lassiter's papers. He knows the gating fishy credentials. More than that,
[17:58] Speaker 8: he knows the Holland invasions upon me. Well, I wouldn't
[18:01] Speaker 8: have killed after day. I've done a great job, though
[18:05] Speaker 8: I stucked into the pitch and swung my brain down.

[19:30] Speaker 6: Now?
[19:31] Speaker 5: Your paper police your authority? Thanks, thank you to stop it?
[19:36] Speaker 13: Oh all right, but that paper is a nuisance that
[19:41] Speaker 13: holds up business here here am i gabal Savat Insurance
[19:47] Speaker 13: claims the jestice for the brand descriptions, signature.
[19:52] Speaker 5: Yes, those things an order. And then if you don't
[19:54] Speaker 5: mind that seven minutes? Now, what else where was your
[19:59] Speaker 5: grandfather buried? That's one on your father's side, the family cemetery.
[20:06] Speaker 5: To run anything else? No, I hope you like your rule.
[20:17] Speaker 5: I followed it. Throw myself up conc I had headquartered
[20:20] Speaker 5: at Brulan. Check the city file. There's no shabbat buried
[20:23] Speaker 5: in the Saint Maurice cemetery. There there's times go on.
[20:27] Speaker 5: It is a small thing, but not a natural mistake
[20:30] Speaker 5: for a Frenchman. If the small ones could come, what else?
[20:33] Speaker 5: I followed him. When he left the hotel, he went
[20:36] Speaker 5: to the Mayor's office. One of my men got to
[20:38] Speaker 5: picture of him as he went up the steps.
[20:39] Speaker 11: You got a picture with him. But yeah, concern. He
[20:42] Speaker 11: had no idea that it is shaky. So one deho
[20:51] Speaker 11: like Kana Big to see the mayor.
[20:58] Speaker 3: Monsieur, the man was here to see you yesterday from
[21:03] Speaker 3: the pack with a compulsory day.
[21:07] Speaker 5: Papers and that commission, Pady, Why more men from the
[21:12] Speaker 5: village have you give him any monsieur? My people will
[21:18] Speaker 5: no longer follow me.
[21:19] Speaker 1: Look this paper, you.
[21:20] Speaker 5: See what it says, Yes to the German collaborator. All
[21:25] Speaker 5: day long, I have found me in my car, in
[21:27] Speaker 5: my office, every where I got it. They do not understand.
[21:31] Speaker 5: I have only done with a purpose, right, I want
[21:34] Speaker 5: hope to avoid advertisers. Where is this man who came
[21:36] Speaker 5: to see you? Yes disappeared on the ground. You will
[21:41] Speaker 5: never be found. I do my best, and the people
[21:45] Speaker 5: do not understand. There's a company of God stationed here, yes, Sir,
[22:00] Speaker 5: at the hotel there order him up. That was part
[22:08] Speaker 5: of the plan that brought out to every last minute detail.
[22:11] Speaker 5: The moment the hotel is left without a God, A
[22:13] Speaker 5: small group of men's within quietly through the battle. They
[22:16] Speaker 5: go directly to a room, running up a floor and
[22:18] Speaker 5: then open the door. Come along the bis. You're going
[22:22] Speaker 5: to England.
[22:25] Speaker 10: A plane is waiting in a secret place. Davoirs put aboard.
[22:28] Speaker 10: The plane takes off. Shocky remains behind. He had work
[22:32] Speaker 10: still to do. He doesn't know that his picture has
[22:35] Speaker 10: been given to every German agent in the coastal Sanction.
[22:38] Speaker 5: And two days later, in Gibson's office in London, we
[22:41] Speaker 5: just got a transmission to the shots. They've got mister Shark.
[22:48] Speaker 5: They're taken him to a halt thirteen room, Madeline shocking.
[22:55] Speaker 5: Did he get a right? No, sir, take him a love.
[23:08] Speaker 5: Just three questions, Shocky, that's all? What was your mission?
[23:14] Speaker 5: Where's the invasion coming? When? We will make you tell?
[23:21] Speaker 5: You know that shocking. You know a man can take
[23:25] Speaker 5: only so much punishment. Remember you taught me fair play,
[23:32] Speaker 5: years of decency. That's out. Remember you've done you a job.
[23:39] Speaker 5: Now I'll accomplish my mission. Where is shaky? Where are
[23:45] Speaker 5: they coming in?
[23:47] Speaker 8: And so I'm glad you're remembered of it, and I
[23:50] Speaker 8: touch you're a top man in a crash.
[23:53] Speaker 5: But enough, Yeah, I'm all right, hand Shot, you just
[24:02] Speaker 5: made a bad escape. Take him downstairs. We'll make him talk. Gentlemen,
[24:15] Speaker 5: new pilots have been chosen for your special qualifications. You've
[24:18] Speaker 5: been asked for attempt a hazardous mission.
[24:20] Speaker 8: The blast of target is zero peep. You'll be risking
[24:24] Speaker 8: their lives. You've got to write to know why they're targetive.
[24:27] Speaker 8: That their headquarters LAHA thirteen rule, Madeline.
[24:31] Speaker 5: They're holding an American agent there. If the talks it
[24:34] Speaker 5: may cost too moan American lives. You won't talk, not.
[24:37] Speaker 7: As long as you can stand the punishment they're giving him.
[24:41] Speaker 7: Only no human body can stand it too long.
[24:45] Speaker 5: I know, Bob Shot, you would rather die than talk.
[24:50] Speaker 5: Be sure that no one in that house escapes. Uh?
[25:03] Speaker 5: Where shocky? Where?
[25:08] Speaker 4: Where?
[25:09] Speaker 5: H fairly shocky? Where where I am way? Where? Where
[25:24] Speaker 5: are they coming over? Where?
[25:27] Speaker 9: Where?
[25:27] Speaker 5: Where? I think?
[25:30] Speaker 4: So?
[25:32] Speaker 5: You're ready talking?
[25:33] Speaker 8: You're ready to talk?
[25:35] Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm ready completed. I was a humfortable gut.
[26:06] Speaker 12: William Lundigan, John Beale and Leon Name will return to

[26:17] Speaker 5: Now in the spirit of the day.
[26:18] Speaker 3: A final word of thanks Dwan Stars for a most
[26:21] Speaker 3: enjoyable and exciting half hour.

[27:57] Speaker 3: greatest Stars and the greatest stories brought here by Kemmel's Cigarettes.
[28:03] Speaker 3: This is Burns Best Freaking.
[28:12] Speaker 8: This is NBC's the National Broadcasting Company.
[28:16] Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, definitely a more ram story than OSS,
[28:24] Speaker 1: and then your typical episode of Cloak and Dagger, really
[28:28] Speaker 1: showing everything that could go wrong and reflecting the risk
[28:33] Speaker 1: that was taken if you chose service in the OSS,
[28:37] Speaker 1: as well as some of the tough decisions made in Wartime.
[28:41] Speaker 1: Of course, a lot of this very much condensed from
[28:45] Speaker 1: the movie, but it does remain in effective wartime tale. Now,
[28:51] Speaker 1: we do have some comments regarding our encore episodes. We
[28:58] Speaker 1: start with bullets or ballots where mechanics sixty six rits.
[29:03] Speaker 1: It should have been extremely obvious he was still a cop,
[29:06] Speaker 1: as Bogie said, all the trouble started when he joined.
[29:10] Speaker 1: Also asking to meet the guys in charge after being
[29:13] Speaker 1: in the gang a few days was a dead giveaway.
[29:15] Speaker 1: It cracks me up every time that Joe Friday does
[29:19] Speaker 1: that when he goes under cover in Joe Friday's defense,
[29:23] Speaker 1: The big difference between the dragnet stories of bullets or
[29:28] Speaker 1: ballots is usually Friday is undercover not as someone who
[29:33] Speaker 1: wants to join the gang, but particularly when interacting with
[29:39] Speaker 1: the narcotics world, he is pretending to be a drug
[29:43] Speaker 1: pusher who wants to make a big buy and therefore
[29:47] Speaker 1: wants to talk to someone higher up the food chain,
[29:51] Speaker 1: which is a bit more plausible. I think does require
[29:55] Speaker 1: more suspension of belief in bullets or ballots, given that
[30:00] Speaker 1: at Edward G. Robinson's character was known to be a
[30:04] Speaker 1: cop and you started having all these troubles with the
[30:08] Speaker 1: operation when he joined. So a little different for Sergeant Friday,
[30:13] Speaker 1: but I think a fair point. And then Brian says
[30:18] Speaker 1: never saw this movie, going to have to find it
[30:21] Speaker 1: after this. I love finding the differences between the radio
[30:24] Speaker 1: and film versions. Sometimes I'll forget all about either and
[30:27] Speaker 1: end up wondering why I know what exactly is going
[30:31] Speaker 1: to happen next. Anyway, these are lots of funds on
[30:35] Speaker 1: long road trips. Well, thanks so much, Brian, and then
[30:38] Speaker 1: Harrison comments on suspicion, I've always wanted to watch this movie,
[30:43] Speaker 1: but never got around to it. I was also expecting
[30:46] Speaker 1: it to take a dark turn at the end since
[30:48] Speaker 1: it was a Hitchcock movie, and was extra surprised by
[30:51] Speaker 1: how it turned out. It made me like the story
[30:54] Speaker 1: even more. Then we have some comments regarding Operation Flur
[30:58] Speaker 1: de Lee. Harrison writes, Wow, I didn't expect the climax
[31:02] Speaker 1: between Renee and Duke to play out the way it did.
[31:05] Speaker 1: Besides hearing one episode of Pat Novak, this is one
[31:08] Speaker 1: thing I've seen Jack webbing outside of Dragonet, if my
[31:11] Speaker 1: memory serves me right. So it was a real trait
[31:15] Speaker 1: doctor who done it. Wrote Joe Friday flirting, I suffered
[31:19] Speaker 1: second hand embarrassment. It's definitely a challenge for an actor
[31:24] Speaker 1: being associated with a role, and in this case, the
[31:27] Speaker 1: escape episode came two years before Joe Friday, but the
[31:32] Speaker 1: association is definitely there for many listeners. And then Mechanic
[31:38] Speaker 1: sixty six rites. Harry Bartel was good as the major
[31:41] Speaker 1: as a young French resistance fighter, not very convincing, good story,
[31:47] Speaker 1: and Harrison chummed in, I'm just glad we didn't get
[31:50] Speaker 1: to also hear Harry Bartell as Harry Bartell selling Petrie
[31:54] Speaker 1: whyt Well. I was never too bothered by Harry Bartel's
[32:01] Speaker 1: performance in that because the French character he was playing
[32:07] Speaker 1: was a bit naive, and even though he was very
[32:13] Speaker 1: sure of himself, he was inexperienced and didn't know what
[32:18] Speaker 1: he was doing. And so even if the accent wasn't precise,
[32:22] Speaker 1: I think Bartel got the essence of the character, and
[32:27] Speaker 1: the weakness of the accent I tended to interpret as
[32:31] Speaker 1: a somewhat boyish uncertainty. So I need to blend it
[32:36] Speaker 1: all with the character. But the dialect is definitely not
[32:39] Speaker 1: something you get away with today. All right, Well, now
[32:43] Speaker 1: it's time to think our Patreon supporter of the day,
[32:48] Speaker 1: and I want to thank k Pass, Patreon supporter since
