[2:54] Speaker 4: not intelligent. Oh you're being modest, I am not. I'm sorry.
[2:58] Speaker 4: You are beautiful, though.
[3:00] Speaker 5: Let you say that to all the beautiful girls you meet.
[3:02] Speaker 5: Do you like to ski?
[3:03] Speaker 6: No?
[3:04] Speaker 5: Why are you on the ski train?
[3:06] Speaker 4: Because of the telegram you sent me?
[3:08] Speaker 5: Then you are Simon Templary. I kind of thought you
[3:11] Speaker 5: looked like one.
[3:12] Speaker 4: Thank you. Your telegram sounded desperate. What do you want
[3:16] Speaker 4: me to do?
[3:17] Speaker 5: A very small thing? Yes, I like you to be
[3:20] Speaker 5: my husband. Why are you married so well? But nobody
[3:23] Speaker 5: will mind if you're my husband, and.
[3:25] Speaker 4: Nobody will mind.
[3:26] Speaker 5: Look, Peggy, I said, only for a while. None of
[3:29] Speaker 5: my husbands was ever able to say I stayed my.
[3:32] Speaker 4: Welcome, none of your, Peggy, How many husbands have you had?
[3:37] Speaker 7: I have a terrible memory. I do remember a Smith
[3:40] Speaker 7: and and Joe, so of course very easy name.
[3:42] Speaker 4: Yeah, look, and may I ask you why you want
[3:45] Speaker 4: me to be your husband, so nobody.
[3:46] Speaker 5: Will murder me.
[3:49] Speaker 4: Easy.
[3:51] Speaker 7: If Charlie thinks I'm married to the saint, he'll think
[3:54] Speaker 7: twice before beating my brains out, which would be the
[3:56] Speaker 7: neatest trick of the year, he said, on account of
[3:58] Speaker 7: I don't have any.
[3:58] Speaker 4: Brains, I'm acording to who is Charlie?
[4:01] Speaker 5: He's in the car of ahead with a blond.
[4:04] Speaker 4: Oh? Oh, he's a friend of yours.
[4:06] Speaker 5: Oh no, he used to be my last husband. I
[4:08] Speaker 5: mean he was my husband live.
[4:10] Speaker 4: I think I understand. And why should he want to
[4:12] Speaker 4: kill you? Alimony did you get from him? It doesn't
[4:17] Speaker 4: seem much of a motive.
[4:18] Speaker 5: It's a lot of alimony. Also, he doesn't like my
[4:21] Speaker 5: following him around.
[4:22] Speaker 4: You follow him around?
[4:23] Speaker 7: Why to make sure Vicky doesn't kill him? VICKI that's
[4:26] Speaker 7: a blonde she married, Charlie.
[4:29] Speaker 5: Asked me.
[4:30] Speaker 4: And she wants to kill him.
[4:31] Speaker 7: Well, who wouldn't side She doesn't even like him, But
[4:35] Speaker 7: she's crazy about money and if she kills him, she'll
[4:37] Speaker 7: get all the money and I won't get any alimony.
[4:40] Speaker 7: So I know a girl isn't supposed to be forward,
[4:44] Speaker 7: and that's the man to be her husband anyway, not
[4:47] Speaker 7: the first time they meet. After all, this is a
[4:50] Speaker 7: matter of a life and death.

[13:35] Speaker 5: I wouldn't say that.
[13:36] Speaker 4: Take e the still hu The snow is completely flat.
[13:40] Speaker 4: Where the snowman wasn't sleigh Mark's right next to the spot.
[13:45] Speaker 5: I'm cold, silent. Why are you more interested in that
[13:49] Speaker 5: snowman than you are.
[13:50] Speaker 4: Me thought he had a kind face. Hey, let's go
[13:54] Speaker 4: back to the hotel and get warm.

[14:25] Speaker 4: around mister Thompson, Oh yes, oh no, oh, yes, I
[14:28] Speaker 4: don't know what.
[14:29] Speaker 12: I was merely remarking that I know who mister Thompson is,
[14:32] Speaker 12: and I have not seen him around. As a matter
[14:34] Speaker 12: of fact, missus Thompson was asking about him too.
[14:36] Speaker 4: I see, thank you. The things seem to be disappearing
[14:43] Speaker 4: around here. The snowman, Charlie Thompson, thank you. We're not
[14:46] Speaker 4: going on stairs. We're going out again to look for Charlie. No,
[14:51] Speaker 4: the snowman.
[14:59] Speaker 8: Simon, and the resemblance between me and Eskimos no coincidence.
[15:04] Speaker 5: It sly I'm freezing. They've been all over time looking
[15:08] Speaker 5: for that time thing.
[15:09] Speaker 4: It's only a little more ground to cover. We're working
[15:12] Speaker 4: our way around to the back of the hotel.
[15:14] Speaker 5: I know what time I'm finding a snowman.
[15:16] Speaker 7: In the middle of all the snow. It's like looking
[15:19] Speaker 7: for a needle in a haystack.
[15:20] Speaker 4: The difficulty of that has always been overrated. There's an
[15:24] Speaker 4: easy way of finding a needle in a haystag. How
[15:27] Speaker 4: we just sit down on a haystack.
[15:29] Speaker 7: That's the end.
[15:32] Speaker 5: What I just said, Sid, it was a joke.
[15:35] Speaker 4: Yeah, let's keep the conversation on a higher level.
[15:39] Speaker 5: Sad straight ahead middle trees there is.
[15:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't seem to have been damaged much. He's
[15:49] Speaker 4: frozen silent. We're about one hundred yards from the hotel,
[15:54] Speaker 4: and she'd have a woodpile here, which is just what
[15:57] Speaker 4: we need. Some nice dry wood, I.
[16:00] Speaker 5: Mean a nice hot bath as good.
[16:02] Speaker 4: As wood burns. I'm gonna build a fire.
[16:05] Speaker 10: Oh.
[16:05] Speaker 7: I appreciate your worrying about me, Simon, but it.
[16:07] Speaker 5: Would be even warmer with motel.
[16:09] Speaker 4: I'm not building the fire for one. I'm building it
[16:12] Speaker 4: because I want to give that snowman a hot foot, Simon.
[16:28] Speaker 7: That's a very pretty fab Why do you keep staring
[16:32] Speaker 7: at that snowman? Oh, I'm waiting for it to know
[16:35] Speaker 7: now that isn't a nice thing to do to take
[16:37] Speaker 7: his looks.
[16:38] Speaker 5: WIT's begin the mails already.
[16:40] Speaker 3: Oh.
[16:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And now we know why the snowman was smooved,
[16:48] Speaker 4: don't you.
[16:50] Speaker 5: That's jolly. He was getting the snow. Oh Simon.
[16:56] Speaker 4: If he pard, he's very dead. But he beat his
[17:00] Speaker 4: head in. Sheriff will be over a little while, Peggy,
[17:15] Speaker 4: as soon as he gets these gloshes on.
[17:17] Speaker 7: I hate to think of Charlie lying out there.
[17:19] Speaker 4: In the snow.
[17:20] Speaker 5: It was never an outdoor man, Peggy.
[17:24] Speaker 4: Maybe you better run upstairs to your ro It's just
[17:27] Speaker 4: that I wanted to get over to Sagate studio before
[17:30] Speaker 4: the sheriff gets there.
[17:31] Speaker 5: Do you think killed Charlie and put him in the snowman?
[17:34] Speaker 4: It's possible Charlie's death makes Vicky a very rich widow
[17:38] Speaker 4: who Surga might approve of that. I'd like to ask Peggy.
[17:43] Speaker 7: Wife's places at her husband's.
[17:45] Speaker 4: Signed and it looks still weird?
[17:47] Speaker 5: Not a word, and I'll know you're right out here
[17:50] Speaker 5: in the lobby.
[17:51] Speaker 4: Never mind, let's go get ourselves a sleigh.
[18:08] Speaker 9: This here's the studio, folks.

[18:25] Speaker 5: Okay, Oh the studio looks like it.
[18:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, the Prince of Graustof should be inside, but it
[18:32] Speaker 4: won't be. Let the windows three fourths cover to a snow.
[18:40] Speaker 6: He ain't answering too quick.
[18:42] Speaker 4: Uh huh the doors open, Come on, it's so dark.
[18:48] Speaker 4: Wait a minute, find the knights getting that window? Say
[18:54] Speaker 4: what's going on here?
[18:56] Speaker 12: All right?
[18:58] Speaker 6: Hey, that's my sway?
[19:01] Speaker 4: That was your sleigh?
[19:04] Speaker 6: All right?
[19:06] Speaker 9: Now, what are we gonna do?
[19:07] Speaker 6: Well? Phone town?
[19:08] Speaker 4: Anyone see one? O?

[19:42] Speaker 4: Charlie Thompson was wearing one red sock and one green one.
[19:46] Speaker 4: Somebody may have walked off with a mate to one
[19:48] Speaker 4: of them. Well, come on, everybody, let's start walking.
[19:52] Speaker 6: It's gonna take us about a week to walk back
[19:54] Speaker 6: to the hotel.
[19:55] Speaker 9: Snow's kind of deep out there.
[19:57] Speaker 4: May not be back for hours and month.
[20:00] Speaker 5: Simon. There a couple of pairs of skis in the
[20:01] Speaker 5: corner of the door.
[20:05] Speaker 4: Very decorative.
[20:06] Speaker 5: People go from place to place on ski.
[20:08] Speaker 4: Sure, sure people who can ski.
[20:10] Speaker 5: I almost read a book, Simon. They said. Skiing is
[20:12] Speaker 5: really very simple.
[20:14] Speaker 4: It died.
[20:15] Speaker 9: Don't look at me. I ain't getting on them. Wouldn't
[20:18] Speaker 9: death trap?
[20:19] Speaker 4: All right, you stay here, we're sending for you. Do
[20:21] Speaker 4: you mind, don't mind at all you pegging out. I'll
[20:24] Speaker 4: help you get those skis trapped on.
[20:26] Speaker 8: I hope it's downhill all the way, Simon.
[20:43] Speaker 5: You're such a liar. You ski beautifully.
[20:46] Speaker 4: Yes, this is wonderful, just right, Yeah, as long as
[20:50] Speaker 4: you stay on your feet hungry. Well, when we get
[20:53] Speaker 4: back to town.
[20:54] Speaker 5: And I like, what a salami sandwich, Peggy.
[20:58] Speaker 4: People get shot for jokes like shots came from the
[21:05] Speaker 4: pump of trees down the slope. Tay, you do you
[21:08] Speaker 4: know what bad little boys do? I think we can
[21:11] Speaker 4: get under the smoke here, get to some rocks.
[21:16] Speaker 5: Next, now ball with rocket.
[21:18] Speaker 4: Yeah, he can't get us. Let he gets a lot closer.
[21:21] Speaker 4: I can't see what it is moving in you to
[21:24] Speaker 4: come out and to be open. Okay, I've got one ready,
[21:28] Speaker 4: all right, Now he's moving out. Here goes Simon.
[21:34] Speaker 7: You hit him for the next him again?
[21:40] Speaker 11: Oh, Simeon, No, I know how be go to you?
[21:56] Speaker 5: Gosh, I'm so glad to get back to the hotel.
[21:58] Speaker 12: Oh, mister Temper, Oh yeah, the sheriff said he wanted
[22:01] Speaker 12: to see you as soon as you came in. He's
[22:03] Speaker 12: in the manager's office to your left.
[22:05] Speaker 4: Thank you. Would you send someone out to mister Popoff
[22:08] Speaker 4: studio who's left the slave drivers standard there? I'll take
[22:11] Speaker 4: care of it, sir.
[22:12] Speaker 5: Thanks Simon. Do you know who killed Charlie and Charlotte?
[22:16] Speaker 4: Well, I'm not sure, but I think it isn't going
[22:18] Speaker 4: to take much longer to find out. I mean, hello, sheriff,
[22:24] Speaker 4: I'm Simon Templar. I know, mister Templar, the satan. This
[22:28] Speaker 4: is a great pleasure, Thank you, and this is Peggy Snith,
[22:32] Speaker 4: Jones and so forth. Glad to meet you. My name's Hudson.
[22:35] Speaker 13: That statement from mister Thompson the sculpler fellow, mister templar.
[22:39] Speaker 4: I thought you might have something dead, Yes I have.
[22:42] Speaker 4: It might be better if you got them in here, though,
[22:44] Speaker 4: and we cleaned up the whole thing at once.
[22:46] Speaker 13: Hold right in the next room. Hold on, would you
[22:50] Speaker 13: mind stepping in here, boots? I am disgusting. Is this
[22:55] Speaker 13: the word to spending?
[22:57] Speaker 5: Maybe several long?
[23:00] Speaker 4: When your husband arrived at the hotel, what was the
[23:02] Speaker 4: first thing he did?
[23:03] Speaker 5: Well? He said he was going to take a shower.
[23:05] Speaker 5: I left him upstairs.
[23:07] Speaker 4: I see, excuse me a desk, Oh, clerk, will you
[23:13] Speaker 4: get me a sprig of holly with berries on it?
[23:17] Speaker 4: I noticed the florist shop in the lobby. No, I
[23:19] Speaker 4: know it isn't Christmas yet. No, it's not for a gag.
[23:24] Speaker 4: It's for a noose.
[23:34] Speaker 10: Confidential, everybody, this Simon, he's crazy.
[23:37] Speaker 4: For miss I kissed the girl under a missiletoe, no difference. Oh,
[23:43] Speaker 4: come in.
[23:44] Speaker 6: Here you are, mister Temper.
[23:46] Speaker 4: Oh, thank you. Would you please hand me that vase
[23:49] Speaker 4: on the table, sir, thank you again? Very nice fig
[23:56] Speaker 4: the berries are green? Now? Why? Why? Just a minute, Peggy.
[24:02] Speaker 4: Look like when a man wants a sprig of Hollywood berries,
[24:04] Speaker 4: he wants red berries. Now, you go right out and
[24:07] Speaker 4: get me what I want.
[24:08] Speaker 12: I'm sorry about the berries being green.
[24:11] Speaker 4: I guess they aren't right yet. I'll go right now.
[24:14] Speaker 4: Oh no, excuse my boss.
[24:18] Speaker 5: You broke the ball.
[24:19] Speaker 10: He's also breaking the head the clerky.
[24:23] Speaker 4: I just wanted to make sure he wouldn't try playing
[24:25] Speaker 4: games with his gun share and done. Yes, Peggy, the
[24:28] Speaker 4: one he tried to kill us with.
[24:30] Speaker 5: But if he was the one, and he must have
[24:33] Speaker 5: been the one.
[24:34] Speaker 4: Who killed Thompson, he is, But why.
[24:36] Speaker 7: I don't what reason would he have to kill John?
[24:39] Speaker 4: I think you'll tell us. Seems to be with us again.
[24:43] Speaker 4: Good evening. I hope you slept well. You listen, Thank you, Sheriff.
[24:49] Speaker 4: Charlie Thompson was killed in his shower. Then he was dressed,
[24:52] Speaker 4: dragged out of the hotel, and planted inside the snowman.
[24:55] Speaker 4: That's why you moved the snowman. Wasn't it so that
[24:59] Speaker 4: you wouldn't have to carry the body so great a distance.
[25:01] Speaker 4: I never touched Charlie Thompson, and I know you did
[25:04] Speaker 4: how temper. Thompson's corpse was wearing one red sock and
[25:08] Speaker 4: one green. It meant whoever had dressed him was color blind. Yes, yes,
[25:12] Speaker 4: in the business with the holly proved that the berries
[25:15] Speaker 4: were really red. But when I told our friend here
[25:17] Speaker 4: that they were greeny had to take my word for it.
[25:19] Speaker 4: He couldn't tell the difference.
[25:20] Speaker 5: Why why you gavil Man Simon. He must have been
[25:24] Speaker 5: the one who kicked me over the head in my room.
[25:27] Speaker 5: M m.
[25:27] Speaker 4: That's why I knew missus Thompson hadn't killed her husband.
[25:30] Speaker 4: What do you mean You wouldn't have had to hit
[25:32] Speaker 4: Peggy over the head and in order to get into
[25:34] Speaker 4: your husband's room. And I couldn't suspect mister popall. Why not?
[25:38] Speaker 4: Some of my best friends are suspecting me because you
[25:41] Speaker 4: would never have left Thompson's empty wallet in your own studio.
[25:44] Speaker 4: It was the clerk Peggy, and I surprised planting it
[25:47] Speaker 4: there after. Of course he had taken all the money
[25:49] Speaker 4: out of it. But that's why Thompson was killed, mister Poppa.
[25:53] Speaker 4: He always carried lots and lots of money in his wallet.
[25:56] Speaker 4: If Peggy supplied that information, you mean this clerk.
[25:59] Speaker 10: He tried to frame me, so I am looking like
[26:01] Speaker 10: a what tho?
[26:05] Speaker 6: And men who tried to.
[26:06] Speaker 5: Choosel on a chiseler.
[26:16] Speaker 7: Simon, real long, Oh there we are, Simon. Did you
[26:24] Speaker 7: know that some people cannot sez she?
[26:29] Speaker 4: There must be a moral in that. Someday I'm immoral.
[26:34] Speaker 5: Simon. We're not really married, but you could kiss me.
[26:40] Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
[26:41] Speaker 5: Nice Simon.
[26:55] Speaker 2: You've been listening to another transcribed adventurer of the Saint
[26:58] Speaker 2: the robin Hood of modern Crime.
[27:00] Speaker 4: Here's our style, ladies and gentlemen, this is Dincent Price
[27:02] Speaker 4: inviting you to join us again next week at the
[27:05] Speaker 4: same time for another exciting adventure of the Saint. Good
[27:08] Speaker 4: Night then. Script was written by Lewis Vidies. This is NBC,
[27:21] Speaker 4: the National Broadcasting Company.
[27:29] Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, great to have Vincent Price back. Somewhat
[27:33] Speaker 1: unusual in that we have a killer who is just
[27:39] Speaker 1: hotel staff operating on a robbery motive. Not the type
[27:43] Speaker 1: of thing you expect from these top of shows, but
[27:46] Speaker 1: it's a bit of a twist now. Of course, this
[27:49] Speaker 1: is not the first time that we've heard the Saint
[27:52] Speaker 1: U's color blondness as a clue. If you'll recall color
[27:57] Speaker 1: blindness was the key to Simon and solving a murder
[28:03] Speaker 1: on a cruise ship back during the nineteen forties when
[28:07] Speaker 1: the series was airing on Mutual. That portrayal really kind
[28:12] Speaker 1: of went over the top in the way that it
[28:16] Speaker 1: showed colorblindness. I mean, in that case, the killer, who
[28:22] Speaker 1: was this professional man, couldn't match his own clothes, and
[28:29] Speaker 1: it's this very pervasive, cartoonish sort of colorblindness. Here are
[28:34] Speaker 1: things very much more grounded, maybe not perfect, but still
[28:40] Speaker 1: close enough for radio. And really what gives him away
[28:45] Speaker 1: is that he doesn't just disclose being colorblind. He was
[28:50] Speaker 1: obviously aware of being colorblind and may have been afraid
[28:55] Speaker 1: that somehow or another that could be a cloe. Maybe
[29:00] Speaker 1: it's into too many mystery stories, all right, Well, now
[29:03] Speaker 1: listener comments and feedback, and we start on YouTube with
[29:08] Speaker 1: a comment regarding the horrible hamburger, and Jeffrey writes, not
[29:17] Speaker 1: to be nitpicking, but we have huckleberries here in Wyoming.
[29:21] Speaker 1: Daughter canned a bunch of it into gym for us.
[29:24] Speaker 1: Good show. Thanks well, thank you, Jeffrey. And that's definitely
[29:29] Speaker 1: not nitpicking. That's providing some valuable additional details and learn
[29:35] Speaker 1: more about the huckleberries, and yes, there are huckleberries in Wyoming,
[29:42] Speaker 1: the same sort of mountain huckleberry variety that's available in
[29:47] Speaker 1: Montana and also in the Pacific Northwest. But in the
[29:53] Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest they have other varieties of huckleberry. In addition,
[29:59] Speaker 1: they're there are huckleberries in Colorado. These are very different
[30:04] Speaker 1: as they grow close to the ground and so you
[30:08] Speaker 1: really have to be looking for them. And then I
[30:12] Speaker 1: came across an interesting article from Oregon where, according to
[30:17] Speaker 1: a professor of horticulture at the Oregon State University, Bernadine Strick,
[30:28] Speaker 1: huckleberries as we know them in the West are not
[30:31] Speaker 1: technically huckleberries. She said that what we commonly called huckleberry
[30:37] Speaker 1: in the West are native blueberry species, and all the
[30:42] Speaker 1: different huckleberries that we have here are the same genis
[30:47] Speaker 1: as commercial huckleberries, and also the same genus as other
[30:53] Speaker 1: native blueberry species in other states and regions of the country,
[30:58] Speaker 1: although they don't call their berries huckleberries. She identifies the
[31:07] Speaker 1: true huckleberries as actually only growing in New England, the
[31:13] Speaker 1: black huckleberry. Now, during my research, I came across a
[31:18] Speaker 1: sixteen year old blog entry by a lady in Colorado
[31:25] Speaker 1: who reported that she ate some huckleberries in New Hampshire
[31:33] Speaker 1: and to her they tasted like blueberries, And that would
[31:38] Speaker 1: actually make sense of the joke. Now, according to Professor Beck,
[31:45] Speaker 1: the black huckleberry looks very much like a blueberry. It's
[31:51] Speaker 1: got these ten large seeds which make it stand out.
[31:57] Speaker 1: So I think in some ways the original joke could
[32:02] Speaker 1: make more sense if the writer was thinking about the
[32:05] Speaker 1: New England huckleberry. Might even have been on vacation somewhere
[32:11] Speaker 1: in New England ordered a huckleberry pie and notice, hey,
[32:16] Speaker 1: this tastes us like a lot like the blueberry pie,
[32:20] Speaker 1: so I appreciated another bite at the apple or I
[32:25] Speaker 1: guess maybe I should say the huckleberry. And this has
[32:29] Speaker 1: me thinking that maybe a huckleberry eating tour might be
[32:34] Speaker 1: a good vacation. We'll have to say about that one
[32:37] Speaker 1: of these days. All right, Well, now it's time to
[32:40] Speaker 1: thank our Patreon supporter of the day. But thanks so
[32:44] Speaker 1: much for the comment. Now it's time to thank our
