[0:05] Speaker 1: Welcome to the Great Adventurers of Old Time Radio from
[0:10] Speaker 1: Boise Idahol. This is your host, Adam Graham. In a moment,
[0:15] Speaker 1: we're going to be in our journey into the world
[0:17] Speaker 1: of Tarzan. But first I do want to encourage you,
[0:21] Speaker 1: if you're enjoying the podcast, to please follow us using
[0:25] Speaker 1: your favorite podcast software. And I am cross posting this
[0:30] Speaker 1: to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio for those
[0:33] Speaker 1: who would lack a preview. And if you do enjoy this,
[0:38] Speaker 1: please follow along at the Great Adventurers to find out
[0:44] Speaker 1: future chapters in this series. Tarzan is one of the
[0:48] Speaker 1: most iconic and recognizable literary heroes of the twentieth century,
[0:56] Speaker 1: also inspired plenty of imitators, such as Marvel comics, Kazar
[1:02] Speaker 1: character or parodies such as George of the Jungle. Tarzan's
[1:08] Speaker 1: basic origin is fairly well known as a child whose
[1:14] Speaker 1: parents died and was subsequently raised by apes, and in
[1:20] Speaker 1: a way, you can almost see Tarzan as a forerunner
[1:24] Speaker 1: of all the sort of orphan heroes that would populate
[1:29] Speaker 1: popular entertainment in the twentieth century. Tarzan started out in
[1:37] Speaker 1: the books of Edgar Rice Burrows with the first Tarzan
[1:41] Speaker 1: novel in nineteen eighteen, the character made the leap onto
[1:46] Speaker 1: the screen with a series of silent films, and in
[1:51] Speaker 1: talkies would become even more popular. There were many actors
[1:57] Speaker 1: who played the role of Tarzan, and in some cases,
[2:02] Speaker 1: as occurred with a few Hollywood characters, different studios got
[2:07] Speaker 1: the rights to different stories featuring Tarzan, so you would
[2:11] Speaker 1: have actors who's run as the character would overlap. But
[2:16] Speaker 1: Johnny Weissmuller emerged as the definitive Tarzan, his distinct Tarzan
[2:24] Speaker 1: yell becoming a really big part of the character going forward,
[2:29] Speaker 1: and of course Tarzan came to radio. The first series
[2:34] Speaker 1: starred James Pearce, who played Tarzan in the silent film
[2:40] Speaker 1: Tarzan and the Golden Lion, and featured Pearce's wife and
[2:47] Speaker 1: Burrow's daughter, Joan Burrows, in the role of Jane. Now
[2:55] Speaker 1: there are surviving episodes of that series. However, there's a
[3:01] Speaker 1: big storyline that is not complete in the extant episodes,
[3:07] Speaker 1: and it doesn't break down nicely into serialized stories like
[3:13] Speaker 1: one adventure right after another in the same way that
[3:17] Speaker 1: Superman Light. So we won't be playing that. We'll start
[3:20] Speaker 1: with the follow up series, which was heard in two
[3:26] Speaker 1: serials that were each thirty nine episodes in length, and
[3:31] Speaker 1: they starred Carlton Kadell. Long time listeners to The Great
[3:35] Speaker 1: Detectives podcast will be somewhat familiar with mister Cadell's work.
[3:41] Speaker 1: Although a slightly different role than Tarzan. Kadell played Jonathan Kig,
[3:48] Speaker 1: the ever vigilant and eager to offer his services for free.
[3:53] Speaker 1: A meekis Carrie I created by Earl Stanley Gardner. There
[3:57] Speaker 1: were two separate serials, The Diamond of Ashore and The
[4:03] Speaker 1: Fires of Tour, and will be playing the Diamonds of
[4:07] Speaker 1: Ashore now. One thing that's worth noting is that in
[4:12] Speaker 1: nineteen forty, because this was syndicated and was re aired
[4:19] Speaker 1: on different stations repeatedly, Burrows had an advertisement added encouraging
[4:26] Speaker 1: people to get the novel Tarzan and the Forbidden City. Now,
[4:33] Speaker 1: Tarzan in the Forbidden City was serialized in Argacy and
[4:38] Speaker 1: released as a novel in nineteen thirty eight. It's not
[4:42] Speaker 1: necessary to understand it to understand this story, because it
[4:50] Speaker 1: was released after this serial and so seems to be
[4:55] Speaker 1: a novelization of sort. I will try to check it
[4:58] Speaker 1: out and kind of see where it might diverge from
[5:02] Speaker 1: the serial or where Burrows, taking advantage of the novel format,
[5:08] Speaker 1: is able to add some more detail. With thirty nine episodes,
[5:13] Speaker 1: we will be bringing you three episodes per week, which
[5:17] Speaker 1: means that this serial will take thirteen weeks to get through,
[5:20] Speaker 1: as well the next one and after that there are
[5:24] Speaker 1: self contained half hour episodes of Tarzan. So I expect
[5:28] Speaker 1: that we will be listening to this character for the
[5:33] Speaker 1: next couple of years. But now let's get into today's episodes.
[5:38] Speaker 1: From May fourteenth, May sixteenth and May eighteenth, nineteen thirty four,
[5:47] Speaker 1: here are to this week's episodes Mistaken Identity, the Map
[5:52] Speaker 1: and a Wolf among the Sheep.
[6:01] Speaker 2: Arsan and the di'mond The Bars Chair. The following inaugural
[7:25] Speaker 2: chapter of the new Tarzan Radio series brings to radio
[7:28] Speaker 2: and to Tarzan's many thousands of friends highly new story
[7:31] Speaker 2: of strange and thrilling adventure. Jane Porter, her father, Samuel T. Falander,
[7:38] Speaker 2: and Cecil Clayton have left Africa. Clayton subsequently has confessed
[7:42] Speaker 2: that he is not the true Lord Greystoke and has
[7:45] Speaker 2: died of board ship, and so Tarzan of the Apes,
[7:48] Speaker 2: Mighty Hunter, Lord of the Jungle has come into his
[7:51] Speaker 2: name and title John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, Tarzan and his
[7:55] Speaker 2: friend Paul Darnold, French naval lieutenant of the African Patrol Service.
[8:00] Speaker 2: I've traveled up the coast to low Ango, a French
[8:02] Speaker 2: African port, where Darno is awaiting a ship to take
[8:05] Speaker 2: him back to France. To night, we find the two
[8:08] Speaker 2: friends at the close of dinner in the grille of
[8:11] Speaker 2: the Metropoli, discussing future plans.
[8:18] Speaker 3: Happy Antarza mun Ami. Now that you have become an
[8:21] Speaker 3: English lord, what are you going to do?
[8:23] Speaker 4: My title, Lord Greystoke means nothing, gives me another name.
[8:27] Speaker 4: I have no use for the estates and fortune I
[8:30] Speaker 4: can do without.
[8:30] Speaker 3: But you, except to return to the Gngle. Why not?
[8:34] Speaker 4: It's my home, the only home I know and love. No, Donald,
[8:39] Speaker 4: I'll stay here. I'm going to miss you, my friend.
[8:42] Speaker 3: Yes, and I shall miss you. Who why not return
[8:45] Speaker 3: to Paris with me? Eh, the lakes, the boulevards, the
[8:48] Speaker 3: Musique calm com you can well afford it now.
[8:51] Speaker 4: I don't enjoy the comforts of civilization as you call it.
[8:55] Speaker 4: What I've seen of it and the people who live
[8:57] Speaker 4: by its laws, which I don't understand, are shallow, false
[9:02] Speaker 4: My boulevards are the elephant trails, my lights, the sun,
[9:06] Speaker 4: moon and the stars.
[9:08] Speaker 3: I'll stay here, hm, and I cannot say that I
[9:11] Speaker 3: blame you. But this Greystoke fortune, your fortune? Now? What
[9:15] Speaker 3: are you going to do with it? I don't know.
[9:18] Speaker 3: I hadn't thought about it, but you must Tarzan. May
[9:22] Speaker 3: I offer a suggestion, what is it? Why not use
[9:25] Speaker 3: the fortune in establishing a plantation here in Africa? If
[9:29] Speaker 3: you insist on remaining in the genre a plantation?
[9:32] Speaker 4: What for all Africa is mine, all that has not
[9:36] Speaker 4: been spoiled at the tarmangany Tarmangani.
[9:40] Speaker 3: You do not admire the ways of the white man,
[9:42] Speaker 3: do you? But what about Mademoiselle Jane Jane? What about
[9:46] Speaker 3: her abieen? Now that Clayton is dead, she is free
[9:49] Speaker 3: to marry you. You will marry her? Eh?
[9:53] Speaker 4: She wants time to convince her friends that she is
[9:55] Speaker 4: not bearing the Greystoke title in marrying me. I don't
[9:58] Speaker 4: understand her reasons, but I'll go to America in the
[10:01] Speaker 4: year and grastow.
[10:03] Speaker 5: Here are lady and gentlemen who are asking for you.
[10:06] Speaker 5: Some friends of yours in London suggested they look you up.
[10:09] Speaker 5: May I present mister Gregory and his daughter, Miss Gregory,
[10:12] Speaker 5: Lord Greystoke and Lieutenant Donna.
[10:14] Speaker 3: How do you doing? Shown well? Daughter? Have you lost
[10:18] Speaker 3: your voice?
[10:18] Speaker 6: Mister Mitchell has presented Lord Greystoke and Lieutenant Donoh to you.
[10:22] Speaker 7: Oh, I beg your pardon, gentlemen, But good grief dead.
[10:26] Speaker 7: Don't you see the resemblance Lord Greystoke looks enough like
[10:30] Speaker 7: Brian to be his twin brother.
[10:32] Speaker 3: Why bless me so he does?
[10:35] Speaker 6: Excepting for that scar on your forehead, Greystove, pardon my
[10:38] Speaker 6: mentioning it you might very easily pass with my son.
[10:40] Speaker 5: By jove, Yes, remarkable, what I knew him rather well?
[10:45] Speaker 5: He offered it here at low Angle for his tip
[10:47] Speaker 5: into the interior, and that's the last we ever heard
[10:49] Speaker 5: of it.
[10:50] Speaker 8: You wanted to see me, mister Gregory. Won't you sit down?
[10:53] Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you?
[10:55] Speaker 6: Well, you see it's like this. We stopped at the
[10:58] Speaker 6: Ritz in London a chance to meet him. Maud and
[11:00] Speaker 6: Lady Tennington when they learned that daughter and I were
[11:03] Speaker 6: coming out to Africa, they insisted that we look you
[11:06] Speaker 6: up as being the.
[11:07] Speaker 3: Only man who might help us.
[11:08] Speaker 8: Lord and Lady Tennington now are very good friends.
[11:10] Speaker 3: Le'd on when they are.
[11:11] Speaker 8: Indeed, I'll be glad to help you in any way
[11:14] Speaker 8: I can.
[11:14] Speaker 6: Well, Greystoke, we've come out to investigate the disappearance of
[11:18] Speaker 6: my son Brian.
[11:19] Speaker 7: You see, my brother came to Africa two years ago
[11:22] Speaker 7: with an expedition sent out by the Field Museum of Chicago.
[11:25] Speaker 7: Chicago is my home, you know, And they went into
[11:27] Speaker 7: the Belgian Congo specimens of gorillas.
[11:30] Speaker 9: Yes, it's been a year since his last letter.
[11:33] Speaker 7: He wrote they were outfitting here in lu Ango for
[11:35] Speaker 7: a second trip, and that they were on the track.
[11:38] Speaker 9: Of smoking eights.
[11:39] Speaker 6: Talking apes was in sounds ridiculous, doesn't it, gentlemen. But
[11:43] Speaker 6: Brian was pretty level headed and he wouldn't go trapsing
[11:46] Speaker 6: off into the jungle unless he had some idea of
[11:48] Speaker 6: what he was going after.
[11:49] Speaker 7: Well, anyway, when the expedition returned to Chicago, they reported
[11:53] Speaker 7: Brian as missing.
[11:54] Speaker 6: They didn't report him as dead, No, Greystoke simply as missing.
[11:59] Speaker 6: Four of the original expedition died or killed on the
[12:02] Speaker 6: last trip into the jungle corillas, However, they were accounted for.
[12:08] Speaker 3: My son simply vanished.
[12:10] Speaker 6: The trace of him or a particle of his clothing
[12:13] Speaker 6: was ever found, though they searched for days.
[12:15] Speaker 3: Said they trangh strange. Now it would be logical to
[12:19] Speaker 3: assume that if a wild beast had been because of
[12:21] Speaker 3: his death, traces of his torn clothing would most selftinly
[12:24] Speaker 3: have been found. Me.
[12:26] Speaker 7: Yes, well, that's exactly what we think, Lord Grace too,
[12:29] Speaker 7: and that fact has convinced us that Brian is.
[12:31] Speaker 3: A lie bottom more Madmoiselle, Yes, boy, what is it?
[12:35] Speaker 9: A note for the sipe?
[12:36] Speaker 3: There a note for me?
[12:38] Speaker 9: Yes, sa the then Scipe. She pointed to Master and said,
[12:41] Speaker 9: give note.
[12:42] Speaker 3: To big side. A woman? Who is she? All right here?
[12:47] Speaker 3: That'sh for you. It's funny, darnold. I don't know any
[12:51] Speaker 3: women in long Ago can't be openly paper and read it.
[12:56] Speaker 5: Excuse me, miss Gregory, listen to this, arnold. I am
[13:03] Speaker 5: waiting in the little salon beside the main entrance. I
[13:07] Speaker 5: must see you immediately, extremely urgent.
[13:10] Speaker 3: Margra magre mag a most peculiarly are a big Perhaps.
[13:17] Speaker 8: I don't know.
[13:18] Speaker 5: This isn't meant for me. There are many big men
[13:21] Speaker 5: in the room. I'll return it to the womay back
[13:23] Speaker 5: in a minute.
[13:24] Speaker 3: You will excuse me. A moment.
[13:31] Speaker 4: A page brought me your message madam. He insisted it
[13:34] Speaker 4: was for me. Of course there has been a mistake.
[13:37] Speaker 4: I return it to you. Oh but there is a mistake,
[13:40] Speaker 4: then what do you want?
[13:41] Speaker 10: Is it possible that you do not remember me?
[13:44] Speaker 9: Magra?
[13:45] Speaker 11: Strange that Brian Gregory is so soon forgets his friend.
[13:49] Speaker 3: What did you say, Brian Gregory?
[13:53] Speaker 11: But Brian Gregory, you cannot fool Magra. We have not
[13:57] Speaker 11: seen each other for a long time, yet mag has
[14:00] Speaker 11: not forgotten.
[14:01] Speaker 5: I'm sorry, but I've never seen you before that moment.
[14:05] Speaker 8: And my name is not Brian Gregory, so you are.
[14:07] Speaker 11: Not Brian Gregory. I am so sorry, but do not
[14:12] Speaker 11: turn out. It would be dangerous for you. Lu'll task
[14:17] Speaker 11: you cannot have forgotten him. Also, he's directly behind you,
[14:21] Speaker 11: and I know his knife. He's touching your back.
[14:24] Speaker 3: Say cat quiet, Margra, what do you want? H That
[14:29] Speaker 3: is better.
[14:30] Speaker 12: We want only that you go with Margra where she
[14:34] Speaker 12: will take you very well.
[14:37] Speaker 11: No, you're around, Please we will cross the lounge as
[14:41] Speaker 11: the old friends we are.
[14:43] Speaker 3: And be careful.
[14:44] Speaker 12: Gregory, make no sign or do not stop to talk
[14:49] Speaker 12: with anyone.
[14:49] Speaker 4: Put your knife away. I'll ask if that's your name.
[14:52] Speaker 4: I'll go with a woman without the knife in my back.
[14:55] Speaker 3: We go where to a room on.
[14:57] Speaker 11: The floor above, where you will meet Anna the old friend,
[15:01] Speaker 11: and where we may talk quietly without interruption.
[15:06] Speaker 10: Come Brian Grigory. It has been a long time since
[15:12] Speaker 10: we have seen you, my friend.
[15:13] Speaker 11: Now, Brian Gregory, you have changed somehow, and Margaret like
[15:19] Speaker 11: you better as you are.
[15:21] Speaker 3: I don't know what you are talking about.
[15:24] Speaker 10: On these stairs. This way, A few steps and we
[15:29] Speaker 10: are there.
[15:29] Speaker 4: I have friends waiting for me downstairs. Let's get this
[15:32] Speaker 4: over as soon as possible.
[15:33] Speaker 11: That will depend entirely upon you, Brian Gregory.
[15:38] Speaker 9: Here is the room.
[15:39] Speaker 10: One moment and there, please, Brian Gregory. We have brought
[15:53] Speaker 10: Brian Gregory to you.
[15:54] Speaker 12: Attan Tom, you have done well, Margrat and you all
[15:59] Speaker 12: task be seated.
[16:01] Speaker 3: Brian Gregory.
[16:03] Speaker 4: You two think I'm Brian Gregory. Eh, Now you've all
[16:06] Speaker 4: made the same mistake. I tried to explain to these two,
[16:09] Speaker 4: but they insisted. However, loll Task's knife was unnecessary.
[16:13] Speaker 12: Perhaps, but I did not wish to accept the chance
[16:15] Speaker 12: of a refusal.
[16:18] Speaker 3: But it is beside the point. You are here, and
[16:21] Speaker 3: you are Brian Gregory.
[16:23] Speaker 8: All right, have it your own way. Now, what do
[16:26] Speaker 8: you want need?
[16:26] Speaker 3: There? Be any doubt as to that.
[16:28] Speaker 12: Come the point, as you wish, I am prepared to
[16:32] Speaker 12: offer you ten thousand pounds sterling for the map.
[16:35] Speaker 3: The map? What map? Come come? Brian Gregory?
[16:39] Speaker 12: Do you take me at antone for a fool? You
[16:42] Speaker 12: know very well that I speak of the map showing
[16:44] Speaker 12: the location of the city of.
[16:46] Speaker 4: Our Share, and you are willing to give ten thousand
[16:49] Speaker 4: pounds for it.
[16:50] Speaker 3: Ten thousand pounds sterling not enough?
[16:54] Speaker 5: Twenty my friend, you would be safe in offering me
[16:57] Speaker 5: twenty millions.
[16:59] Speaker 12: I've never heard of so nor map. So you are
[17:02] Speaker 12: not Brian Gregory. You have never heard of our Share
[17:06] Speaker 12: and know nothing of any map.
[17:09] Speaker 3: Remarkable.
[17:10] Speaker 4: It's plain you've all mistaken me for someone else. I'm
[17:13] Speaker 4: sorry I can't help you, but I am not Brian Gregory.
[17:15] Speaker 4: I've never heard the name before tonight.
[17:17] Speaker 12: It is useless to deny your identity. Brian Gregory. To
[17:20] Speaker 12: one knows you so well. Have you forgotten that I
[17:23] Speaker 12: witnessed a fight between you and Gomez in which you
[17:26] Speaker 12: received that scar on your forehead.
[17:28] Speaker 3: Eh.
[17:29] Speaker 4: I received this scar and a fight with bulgun with
[17:33] Speaker 4: a gorilla minutes ago.
[17:34] Speaker 12: Gomez was strong, Gregory almost as strong as a and
[17:37] Speaker 12: yet you killed him, and very soon after vanished from
[17:41] Speaker 12: the expedition. They thought a lion at Maul gomezin that
[17:46] Speaker 12: you've also been killed. But I knew differently. You went
[17:50] Speaker 12: alone to search for the city of our share.
[17:53] Speaker 4: Very interesting, though. I'll go on about my business now
[17:57] Speaker 4: and leave you to yours.
[17:57] Speaker 12: One moment, my friend, your identity and refuse my offer,
[18:01] Speaker 12: possibly because you wish to keep the Father of diamonds
[18:04] Speaker 12: for yourself when you find it, eh, But I am
[18:06] Speaker 12: determined to have the diamond myself now.
[18:11] Speaker 3: You will not refuse this.
[18:13] Speaker 8: No, don't worry, mar I'm not afraid of his gun.
[18:17] Speaker 3: There is an easier waymaster, and one less noisy. Loll
[18:23] Speaker 3: tasks knife lolld tasks knife. Yes, yeah, that is better.
[18:33] Speaker 12: A shot might possibly be heard outside this room, even
[18:36] Speaker 12: though the gun has a silence.
[18:42] Speaker 3: Unless you produce the map at once, you will not
[18:45] Speaker 3: leave this room alive. I shall count three and then.
[18:53] Speaker 12: Loll task knife one two.
[19:07] Speaker 2: Donald, meanwhile, worried at the prolonged absence of his friend,
[19:10] Speaker 2: learns from Mitchell, the hotel manager, that Tarzan was seen
[19:13] Speaker 2: mounted the stairs in the company of a man and
[19:15] Speaker 2: a woman.
[19:16] Speaker 3: A man and a woman, Monsieur Mitchell. Yes, by Joe,
[19:19] Speaker 3: and looks she was to lieutenant. Please come with me,
[19:22] Speaker 3: Monsieur Mitchell. Lord Greystoke would not remain away from his
[19:25] Speaker 3: friends unless for a very good reason. You don't think
[19:28] Speaker 3: there's anything wrong. I don't think I know, Mitchell.
[19:33] Speaker 5: Listen by jove By say there seems to be a
[19:37] Speaker 5: Bali rawan there in two hundred and four.
[19:41] Speaker 3: On No open the door, Tarzan, it is locked.
[19:46] Speaker 5: Come on, Mitchell, right, old Chat, now together, turn on
[19:52] Speaker 5: the Lightesta quick breast What in the name of ten
[19:56] Speaker 5: thousand devils the window?
[19:57] Speaker 8: This must be on the brand, but there is. They
[20:01] Speaker 8: can't be very far all the manager for bally ra
[20:04] Speaker 8: I didn't see you, Mitchell. I've had a little argument
[20:06] Speaker 8: with some of your guests.
[20:07] Speaker 5: Argument Great Scott Greystoke. It sounded more like a war
[20:10] Speaker 5: of extermination. And by Joe it looks worse. Who's that
[20:13] Speaker 5: you got there? One of your guests. He tried to
[20:16] Speaker 5: knife me and you better get him to a hospital,
[20:18] Speaker 5: of course, old Chat. But what happened This fellow and
[20:20] Speaker 5: some others got me up here thinking I was Brian Gregory.
[20:23] Speaker 8: They threatened me, and well I had to fight my
[20:25] Speaker 8: way out.
[20:25] Speaker 5: That man on the floor, I've never seen him. This
[20:28] Speaker 5: room is assigned to a gentleman by the name of Tom.
[20:31] Speaker 3: Well, it's all over.
[20:32] Speaker 8: Get this fellow to a hospital and I'll question him later.
[20:34] Speaker 3: May Tarzan. There is more to it than that.
[20:37] Speaker 8: No, all there was to it, Darno. I'll handle this
[20:40] Speaker 8: my own way.
[20:40] Speaker 3: I understand what I mean.
[20:42] Speaker 4: Then we'll rejoin our friends in the grill and Mitchell
[20:45] Speaker 4: say nothing about my being mistaken for Gregory's son.
[20:47] Speaker 5: Of course, dot old chat and you say you know
[20:49] Speaker 5: best how to handle the situation.
[20:51] Speaker 4: And you look after this fellow. Yes, I'm on, Darno.
[20:54] Speaker 4: Let's go downstairs.
[20:55] Speaker 3: Hello Moo. What is this all about?
[20:58] Speaker 4: I don't understand it myself, but there's some connection between
[21:01] Speaker 4: these people and Brian Gregory. I stopped you from talking
[21:04] Speaker 4: about the note and the woman before Mitchell, Well, she
[21:07] Speaker 4: tried to help me, help.
[21:08] Speaker 3: You after deceiving you. How did you get into that room.
[21:12] Speaker 4: When they kept on insisting I was Brian Gregory? I
[21:15] Speaker 4: went out of curiosity.
[21:16] Speaker 3: But who is that man upstairs with Mitchell? He was
[21:19] Speaker 3: most certainly or the combat.
[21:20] Speaker 5: They call him Lal toss lal tas Yes, love cask
[21:25] Speaker 5: a Mongolia or Tippeton.
[21:27] Speaker 3: But how do you suppose the others got away so quickly?
[21:30] Speaker 8: There's a stairway leading down to the garden from the
[21:32] Speaker 8: side baranda.
[21:32] Speaker 3: Of course, your compond and the men who got away
[21:35] Speaker 3: with the woman who was he Atan Tom.
[21:39] Speaker 8: He appeared to be their chief Artan.
[21:43] Speaker 3: Why if I am not mistaken, Aartan means chief in
[21:46] Speaker 3: the ancient Egyptian or Kaldian language. And so you see
[21:51] Speaker 3: this woman try to help you after getting you into
[21:53] Speaker 3: the difficulty strange moon.
[21:56] Speaker 4: I mean, yes, she called a home not to shoot
[21:58] Speaker 4: when he threatened me with the gun and switched off
[22:00] Speaker 4: the lights.
[22:02] Speaker 3: I'll tell you all about it later, I know.
[22:03] Speaker 8: Remember not a word to the Gregory's.
[22:07] Speaker 5: I'm sorry to kept your waiting, mister Gregory, but you
[22:09] Speaker 5: see some of Greystoke's friends who were so delighted to
[22:13] Speaker 5: see him, they did not wish to let him go.
[22:16] Speaker 3: But suppose we step into the alcohol where we may
[22:18] Speaker 3: be alone. Eh Now, you were saying, Mademoiselle Gregory, when
[22:21] Speaker 3: we left, I was.
[22:22] Speaker 7: Saying that, because no visible trace was found of Brian,
[22:25] Speaker 7: we think he must be still alive.
[22:26] Speaker 8: I wouldn't bank too heavily on that. It's possible, but
[22:29] Speaker 8: not probable. What do you intend doing.
[22:31] Speaker 6: It's my intention to organize an expedition immediately go in
[22:34] Speaker 6: search of myself.
[22:36] Speaker 8: You, miss Gregory, I'm going with dead.
[22:37] Speaker 3: Of course, I.
[22:38] Speaker 4: Strongly advise against such a plan. I think you should
[22:41] Speaker 4: return to London or await the outcome of the expedition
[22:43] Speaker 4: in Nairobi.
[22:44] Speaker 6: I've done my is to keep Helen out of this,
[22:46] Speaker 6: but she's a chip off the old block. I suppose
[22:48] Speaker 6: once her mind's made up, there's no stopping at.
[22:52] Speaker 5: Have you any idea, Gregory, as to what part of
[22:54] Speaker 5: the country your son was in or making for when
[22:56] Speaker 5: he disappeared.
[22:57] Speaker 6: All I can tell you is that he was somewhere
[23:00] Speaker 6: the junction of the Ubangi and Congo rivers, at least
[23:03] Speaker 6: that's where his last letter to Helen said he was going.
[23:05] Speaker 8: Where was that letter.
[23:06] Speaker 7: Posted right here in Lulango. It was the last letter
[23:08] Speaker 7: we had the souvenir. He sent me a map of
[23:11] Speaker 7: the country he was going into a map sort of map. No,
[23:14] Speaker 7: I don't imagine it's at all accurate, because it's one
[23:16] Speaker 7: he sketched himself, but we thought it might help.
[23:19] Speaker 8: Are there any towns or cities marked on.
[23:21] Speaker 7: Yes, there was a place called a Jacker at the
[23:24] Speaker 7: bottom of the map. Then there was a Ubangi River
[23:26] Speaker 7: with several places named, and a range of hills and mountains.
[23:30] Speaker 7: And oh yes, on the other side of a circle
[23:33] Speaker 7: marked two en Baker extinct volcano, there was a cross
[23:36] Speaker 7: with the words under it, A share must be about here.
[23:39] Speaker 9: I'll go up to our rooms and get the mat.
[23:41] Speaker 4: Never mind, I look at it in the morning. You're
[23:44] Speaker 4: sure that cross was marked our share?
[23:46] Speaker 9: Oh yes, positive, Lord Greystoke, do you know the place?
[23:50] Speaker 4: I I've heard of it, and not long ago. Did
[23:54] Speaker 4: your brother in that last letter mention any friends such
[23:57] Speaker 4: as Magra or lal Task or Home Tom Tom?
[24:03] Speaker 6: Why Randolph one of the men who was with the
[24:05] Speaker 6: expedition mentioned that name and his report when they returned
[24:08] Speaker 6: to Chicago.
[24:10] Speaker 3: A man by the name of Tom and a.
[24:12] Speaker 6: Woman supposedly his daughter joined the expedition on this second trip.
[24:17] Speaker 3: You don't mean to tell us, you know, Lord Greystoke.
[24:19] Speaker 8: I've had the.
[24:21] Speaker 3: Pleasure of meeting them once.
[24:31] Speaker 2: In a heavily curtained back room of a musty and
[24:33] Speaker 2: insignificant curio shop close by the hotel. Margra and Artan
[24:37] Speaker 2: Tom discussed the latter's unsuccessful attempt to gain possession of
[24:40] Speaker 2: the Map of Our Share from the supposed Brian Gregory.
[24:44] Speaker 3: No, Margaret, there is no doubt about it.
[24:46] Speaker 12: The man's voice build even the scar on his forehead,
[24:49] Speaker 12: proved him beyond all doubt to be Brad Gregory.
[24:52] Speaker 10: Then why should he wish to conceal his identity?
[24:55] Speaker 13: Diamond of our Share answers that question that you do
[24:57] Speaker 13: not think he has a but he has something of
[25:00] Speaker 13: equal value, the map showing the location of the mountain
[25:03] Speaker 13: of Tuanbaka, in which the city of our Share, according
[25:06] Speaker 13: to the legend, is located.
[25:08] Speaker 3: The father of diamonds, Macra.
[25:11] Speaker 10: Is in our share, But how can you be sure
[25:13] Speaker 10: that anti map is.
[25:15] Speaker 12: Gregory was with mccombo, the greatest of the House of
[25:18] Speaker 12: Witch Doctors, when.
[25:19] Speaker 3: The old man died.
[25:20] Speaker 12: He tended mcumbo to the last and received through the
[25:23] Speaker 12: old one's gratitude the legend of the hess Syrians and the.
[25:28] Speaker 3: Great Diamond and the Map.
[25:30] Speaker 14: Macomber drew a sand map for Gregory, which Gregory copied
[25:34] Speaker 14: on the height of a leopard with his own blood,
[25:37] Speaker 14: and later recopied with the story of the legend in
[25:40] Speaker 14: his diary.
[25:41] Speaker 10: And which without his knowledge you found and read. Why
[25:44] Speaker 10: did you not make a copy of the map?
[25:46] Speaker 3: I had no time. Gregory was suspicious of everyone.
[25:49] Speaker 9: You spoke two nights ago.
[25:50] Speaker 10: You knew he had been to the city of last
[25:52] Speaker 10: year and had a skipped.
[25:55] Speaker 3: That was a shot in the dark. After the body
[25:58] Speaker 3: of Gomez was found prison.
[26:00] Speaker 12: Probably killed by wild beasts, Gregory vanished. Gregory killed Gomez
[26:05] Speaker 12: because he tried to steal them up and the diary
[26:07] Speaker 12: containing the legend of the Hessipharians.
[26:10] Speaker 10: And you think Brian Gregory went alone in to the
[26:13] Speaker 10: city of Ashi.
[26:14] Speaker 12: Yes, that is why I abandoned the expedition and left
[26:17] Speaker 12: you a new movie in I returned to search for
[26:21] Speaker 12: Gregory with his map, I would have found this city
[26:24] Speaker 12: and the diamond.
[26:25] Speaker 11: What if Grian Gregory has from the city, why should
[26:28] Speaker 11: he be here now?
[26:29] Speaker 12: He probably discovered that he could not enter a share
[26:32] Speaker 12: single handed, so he returned to organize an expedition. You, Margraham,
[26:38] Speaker 12: must manage to join that expedition and get the map.
[26:43] Speaker 3: Understand Magra understands.
[26:51] Speaker 2: In the Metropold Grill, Helen Gregory and her father are
[26:54] Speaker 2: discussing their proposed expedition with Tarzan and Donald, with the
[26:57] Speaker 2: hope of finding, if not their brother and son, at
[27:00] Speaker 2: least some place of him.
[27:03] Speaker 4: This man Tom. Did he and his daughter return to
[27:06] Speaker 4: America with the expedition, Gregory?
[27:08] Speaker 6: No, Randav said they left the expedition shortly aft to
[27:11] Speaker 6: Brian disappeared.
[27:12] Speaker 8: They left the safari in the jungle alone.
[27:13] Speaker 3: I believe.
[27:14] Speaker 5: So.
[27:14] Speaker 3: Of course, they took a few bearers rather an unusual
[27:17] Speaker 3: procedure in this part.
[27:18] Speaker 4: So I was thinking, and when do you want to
[27:20] Speaker 4: start with the interior, Gregory, Just as soon.
[27:22] Speaker 6: As possible, your advice, Grace still could be unbearable.
[27:26] Speaker 3: According to Lord and Lady Tennington, there's no one who
[27:28] Speaker 3: knows the jungle.
[27:29] Speaker 6: Better excepting a man whom they referred to as Tarzan.
[27:34] Speaker 3: Tarzan.
[27:35] Speaker 9: Yes a peculiar name, isn't it?
[27:36] Speaker 7: But Lord Tennington said, if we could get this from
[27:38] Speaker 7: Tarzan to take charge of our expedition, we'd have no
[27:41] Speaker 7: trouble and we would find Brian, if he is still alive.
[27:44] Speaker 8: Whether he'll go with you or not, I can't say.
[27:47] Speaker 3: What do you think, Donald Muship, it is perceived. I
[27:50] Speaker 3: may even say it is very probable.
[27:52] Speaker 9: Do you know him to Lieutenant.
[27:53] Speaker 3: Mademoiselle Gregory, I can say that Tarzan is the best
[27:56] Speaker 3: friend I have or ever shall have. Yes, I know
[28:00] Speaker 3: him very well. When can we see him Graystow? Is
[28:02] Speaker 3: he town now?
[28:03] Speaker 4: Yes, he happens to be in long Ago. I'll have
[28:06] Speaker 4: him here in the morning. They'll take breakfast with you. Now,
[28:09] Speaker 4: Lieutenant Donna and I have some business. You'll pardon this,
[28:11] Speaker 4: will say good night.
[28:12] Speaker 9: Good night, Lord Grastowe. Don't forget your friend ard a breakfast.
[28:15] Speaker 3: He'll be here good night. But gus on what business
[28:21] Speaker 3: can we have at this time of night?
[28:23] Speaker 8: We're going to the hospital.
[28:24] Speaker 4: I want to question, Ah, I see.
[28:30] Speaker 5: Both.
[28:30] Speaker 8: The hospital's right over there, and we'll be back in
[28:32] Speaker 8: a little while.
[28:33] Speaker 3: Okay, why did you tell Madmoiselle Mishell Gregory that you
[28:36] Speaker 3: are Tarzan? I don't know why didn't you tell them
[28:40] Speaker 3: the same reason? I imagine it would have ruined a few
[28:43] Speaker 3: very amusing moments at breakfast tomorrow. But here is the hospital.
[28:47] Speaker 3: Shall I go in with you? Yes? Good even, gentlemen.
[28:56] Speaker 3: What can I do for you?
[28:57] Speaker 4: A man was brought here from the metropol a little
[28:59] Speaker 4: while ago, where you came to see him?
[29:00] Speaker 15: Oh, yes, yes, mister Trosk gets something like that, but
[29:05] Speaker 15: it's pretty late to see patients.
[29:06] Speaker 4: Now, this man is a police patient to be held
[29:08] Speaker 4: for questioning. That's why we're here.
[29:10] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[29:10] Speaker 3: Oh, in that case, it comes this white place.
[29:14] Speaker 15: He was brought over by a couple of hotel porters,
[29:17] Speaker 15: but there was nothing said about his being a police patient.
[29:21] Speaker 8: We put him in his end room.
[29:22] Speaker 15: Here, mister Trosk, someone to see you, say, mister Trosk,
[29:29] Speaker 15: he's probably a sleep set mister Trosky.
[29:32] Speaker 4: Wake up, one woman, doctor low Task, wake up, oh, doctor,
[29:41] Speaker 4: this man is dead dead.
[29:44] Speaker 8: Is this the man who was brought from the hotel.
[29:46] Speaker 3: He's the only patient to come in tonight.
[29:48] Speaker 4: Well, either someone else was brought in his place, or
[29:49] Speaker 4: our man escaped, probably through that window.
[29:52] Speaker 8: This man is not low Task.
[29:59] Speaker 2: The greg no the ape Man only as Lord Greystoke,
[30:02] Speaker 2: and question him regarding Tarzan, who has been recommended to
[30:05] Speaker 2: them by Lord Tennington, as being the only man in
[30:08] Speaker 2: Africa to help them withholding the fact that he himself
[30:11] Speaker 2: is the man for whom they have inquired, The ape
[30:13] Speaker 2: Man promises to present Tarzan to them at breakfast next morning.
[30:18] Speaker 2: As the scene opens, we find Tarzan and Darno preparing
[30:20] Speaker 2: to descend to the breakfast room.
[30:22] Speaker 3: Hello, I me, I would not miss this morning for
[30:25] Speaker 3: all the golden Opah. Why not have you forgotten our
[30:28] Speaker 3: breakfast engagement with monsieur Mademoiselle Gregory. Oh, that to mi,
[30:32] Speaker 3: Lord Greystoke will be very amusing when they meet Tarzan.
[30:36] Speaker 3: But you have been out this morning already where I slept?
[30:39] Speaker 4: Yes, I have been to the hospital Lal Task has
[30:42] Speaker 4: definitely disappeared.
[30:43] Speaker 3: So and what about the dead man we found in
[30:46] Speaker 3: Task sped and oriental?
[30:48] Speaker 8: No identification on him and body knows him?
[30:50] Speaker 3: Pray dear hm? And what are the woman?
[30:52] Speaker 8: Magra and Tom both vanished?
[30:56] Speaker 3: What do you think? I don't know?
[30:58] Speaker 4: I would certainly like to understand the connection between Dan Gregory,
[31:01] Speaker 4: Margaret and Tom.
[31:02] Speaker 3: Do you suppose they could have been on friendly terms
[31:05] Speaker 3: at one time?
[31:05] Speaker 4: No doubt about that, at least as far as Margaret's concerned.
[31:09] Speaker 4: Tom spoke last night as though I, or rather Brian
[31:12] Speaker 4: Gregory had been in this city of our share, had
[31:15] Speaker 4: seen a diamond which he called the father of diamonds
[31:18] Speaker 4: and escape.
[31:18] Speaker 3: And did you mention the talking apes? Yes? He called
[31:21] Speaker 3: us share the place of the talking apes. Have you
[31:24] Speaker 3: ever heard of such a tribe of apes in Africa.
[31:27] Speaker 8: To me, they are all talking apes.
[31:29] Speaker 4: The language of the apes of Kerchak is understood by
[31:32] Speaker 4: Menu the Manky, as well as by Borgani the gorilla.
[31:34] Speaker 3: And that note Ami sent you by Margra simply a
[31:38] Speaker 3: means of getting you up to that room.
[31:39] Speaker 4: Man, I've been thinking about that. Why should she do that?
[31:43] Speaker 4: Then try to help me.
[31:44] Speaker 3: Later whipa woman the eternal Enigma. She is strangely contradictory
[31:49] Speaker 3: at times. But if you already we shall join Mammoiselle
[31:52] Speaker 3: Gery and her father, a very shunning young lady, Mademoiselle Gregory. Yes,
[31:58] Speaker 3: I suppose she is. Yeah, then they are probably awaiting us.
[32:04] Speaker 3: Do you think this man Tarzan will take charge of
[32:07] Speaker 3: the Gregory Safari.
[32:08] Speaker 4: I've been thinking about that too, Donald. Those people know
[32:11] Speaker 4: nothing about the jungle will be murdered to let them
[32:14] Speaker 4: go alone, especially since Tennington and Hazel sent them to me.
[32:17] Speaker 3: Yet, I suppose they could get competent guides.
[32:19] Speaker 4: With your help, who would desert them, probably at the
[32:22] Speaker 4: first opportunity or sign of trouble.
[32:23] Speaker 3: We there is always that possibility. Ah, our friends are
[32:27] Speaker 3: already at table.
[32:31] Speaker 7: What's happened to our friend, Lieutenant Lord Based promised.
[32:34] Speaker 3: To have you for breakfice, and Lord Greystock, Mademoiselle has
[32:37] Speaker 3: kept his work. He is here, Mademoiselle Monsieur Gregory, to
[32:41] Speaker 3: present my very good friend Tarzan.
[32:45] Speaker 5: Well, Lord grist what you Lord Gristo Tarzan? So you
[32:51] Speaker 5: are Tarzan himself? Are you no? Whener Tennanton and his
[32:54] Speaker 5: wife appear to be amused, Well, so you are Tarzan?
[32:59] Speaker 3: Sit down?
[33:00] Speaker 7: Oh how can you ever forgive me, Lord Greystoke? I
[33:03] Speaker 7: thought Tarzan was a native.
[33:05] Speaker 8: You don't need to apologize.
[33:07] Speaker 4: It's no insult to be taken for a native of
[33:08] Speaker 4: Africa because I am just that. And last night, well,
[33:13] Speaker 4: I couldn't spoil Tinton's fun. I enjoyed it myself.
[33:16] Speaker 3: It was very Amusingum I almost made away last night
[33:20] Speaker 3: when you mentioned Tarzan.
[33:21] Speaker 7: Tarzan, it sounds nice as though it might have a meaning.
[33:25] Speaker 9: What does it mean, Lord Greystoke?
[33:27] Speaker 5: It means white skin, Miss Gregory, in the language of
[33:30] Speaker 5: the great A certain tribe of jungle inhabitants.
[33:33] Speaker 9: Tarzan white skin? Is that what the natives call you?
[33:37] Speaker 8: Yes, in certain parts of Africa?
[33:39] Speaker 9: Oh tell me how did you get the name?
[33:41] Speaker 4: It was given me by my my foster mother.
[33:45] Speaker 8: My name is John Clayton.
[33:46] Speaker 9: Oh, that's interesting.
[33:47] Speaker 4: Your foster mother was a native of Africa, Miss Gregory.
[33:50] Speaker 4: She was the only mother I ever knew. She gave
[33:53] Speaker 4: her life from me.
[33:54] Speaker 9: Oh, I'm sorry forgive me out of course.
[33:58] Speaker 3: But mademoiselle, you have reconsidered about going into the jungle
[34:02] Speaker 3: with your father.
[34:03] Speaker 9: No, not at all, Lieutenant. I'm going with dead.
[34:06] Speaker 7: He couldn't get along without me. That question's definitely settled.
[34:09] Speaker 3: That is that memoide.
[34:11] Speaker 4: I am going into the interior, Gregory. If you like,
[34:13] Speaker 4: I'll take charge of your expedition as Tarzan. As Tarzan.
[34:18] Speaker 6: That's fine. If you really mean that, you'd throw out
[34:21] Speaker 6: appreciate it. I'm new at all is having the faint idea.
[34:24] Speaker 6: How where to begin?
[34:25] Speaker 7: How are we going to know you though, as Lord
[34:27] Speaker 7: gray Stoke or Tarzan in the jungle.
[34:29] Speaker 5: Miss Gregor, I am known only as Tarzan. Then Tarzan
[34:32] Speaker 5: shall be.
[34:33] Speaker 7: And somehow it seems more in keeping with the spirit
[34:35] Speaker 7: of the jungle.
[34:36] Speaker 3: Gentlemen, Wolf and Larson are in the lobby.
[34:39] Speaker 6: Oh, yes, a couple of guides Mitchell hired to get
[34:41] Speaker 6: our supplies and equipment.
[34:43] Speaker 3: Whether we take them or not's up to you, Grace Stowe.
[34:45] Speaker 3: Both experts and they know the jungles.
[34:47] Speaker 5: Send them in right, holl just a moment, Mitchell, what
[34:50] Speaker 5: have you done about Barritt? Oh that's all arranged, and
[34:53] Speaker 5: they'll be waiting for you at Bonger, prepared for an
[34:55] Speaker 5: immediate start.
[34:56] Speaker 7: And now, if you gentlemen will excuse me, I have
[34:58] Speaker 7: several things to buy. I know you want to talk
[35:01] Speaker 7: business alone.
[35:01] Speaker 6: Better get one of the hotel boys to go with
[35:03] Speaker 6: your daughter. I don't like the idea of your tricking
[35:05] Speaker 6: around by yourself.
[35:06] Speaker 3: If Mademoiselle will permit.
[35:08] Speaker 9: Me over, I mustn't impose it.
[35:10] Speaker 3: And no imposition, Mademoiselle part de two, I shall.
[35:12] Speaker 9: Be shot, all right, come on, then we'll see you later.
[35:15] Speaker 3: Fine, fellow, that frenchman here's more than that. I'm active
[35:18] Speaker 3: duty here is he?
[35:19] Speaker 4: Yes, the African Coastal Service usually, but right now he's
[35:22] Speaker 4: waiting for the ship to take him back to France.
[35:25] Speaker 16: Ah, good Morgan here correctly, if he came to tell
[35:28] Speaker 16: you that the equipment and supplies are ready for.
[35:31] Speaker 6: Shipment, good morning, Wolf Larsen. Then yeah, that's fine. This
[35:36] Speaker 6: is mister Tarzan.
[35:38] Speaker 3: He's taking charge of our expedition, he spurted me. He's
[35:41] Speaker 3: been pleased to meet you.
[35:43] Speaker 5: You men know the Belgian Congo above the junction of
[35:45] Speaker 5: the Ubankian Congo rivers.
[35:47] Speaker 12: Yeah sure, hevans up there three times, Shan Shafari.
[35:51] Speaker 3: I know that.
[35:52] Speaker 8: Are you partners?
[35:54] Speaker 3: It's never traveled.
[35:55] Speaker 4: If that's what you mean, well, as long as you've
[35:58] Speaker 4: already been hired, it's settled.
[36:00] Speaker 8: Believe for Bong as soon as possible.
[36:01] Speaker 16: Yeah sure, I am ready to go on an hour's notice.
[36:13] Speaker 2: Meanwhile, in an obscure corner of a dingy coffee shop,
[36:16] Speaker 2: thom and lautask Are didjusting certain hues which the former
[36:19] Speaker 2: had just heard that morning.
[36:21] Speaker 3: Every Wolf will verify my guess.
[36:24] Speaker 12: They are going up the Congo into Belgian territory.
[36:28] Speaker 3: It was not difficult to buy Wolf, Henry, you will die.
[36:33] Speaker 12: Yes, Magra and Wolf will be with a gregory expedition
[36:37] Speaker 12: between them.
[36:38] Speaker 3: They should get the map.
[36:39] Speaker 10: You believe Margra will be able to join them?
[36:42] Speaker 3: What excuse will she? That is her fair? If she fails,
[36:47] Speaker 3: there will still be Wolf.
[36:48] Speaker 12: I've offered him enough money to ensure his loyalty, and
[36:51] Speaker 12: he knows the country he comes.
[36:54] Speaker 3: Say nothing about last night.
[36:55] Speaker 16: Well, mister Tom agreed definitely that I go with the
[36:59] Speaker 16: Gregory EXPERTI issue, Yeah, sit down where they're going. Note
[37:03] Speaker 16: of the yupengis junction with the congo. Yeah, at least
[37:08] Speaker 16: doesn't ask me if I knew that man. He he
[37:12] Speaker 16: is the man in charge of the Gregory outfit.
[37:15] Speaker 3: It's a stranger to me.
[37:17] Speaker 8: He got the chop.
[37:18] Speaker 3: I was figuring on greg who knows that country so well?
[37:23] Speaker 3: Is someone else in charge of his safari?
[37:27] Speaker 16: If that old cook knows the Belgian congo? I am
[37:30] Speaker 16: a chinaman.
[37:31] Speaker 3: Or you say Gregory is an old man, he's sixty
[37:36] Speaker 3: if he's a day on fresh from the state.
[37:39] Speaker 12: This is his first trick into the blue and there
[37:42] Speaker 12: was no one else with Gregory son.
[37:44] Speaker 3: Perhaps when you spoke to him.
[37:46] Speaker 16: His son, Why that's what he's going into the jungle
[37:49] Speaker 16: for to look for trace of his lost son. The
[37:53] Speaker 16: young fellow disappeared a year ago up into that.
[37:57] Speaker 3: His last son. Very interesting.
[38:02] Speaker 16: When they're leaving, I believe by tonight's rivers, steam of
[38:05] Speaker 16: Fonga SAPARi will stop from there.
[38:08] Speaker 12: They seemed to be in somewhatever to leave low Ango whatever,
[38:13] Speaker 12: or there will be a woman on that steamer tonight,
[38:16] Speaker 12: from whom you will take your orders. She will make
[38:18] Speaker 12: herself known to you through the world our cage. She
[38:21] Speaker 12: will lend you what helps she can in locating and
[38:23] Speaker 12: gaining possession of the map.
[38:25] Speaker 3: But how to temple? Am I going to get a
[38:27] Speaker 3: map from a man who is not on the boat?
[38:30] Speaker 3: Will be the out.
[38:30] Speaker 12: Gregory's son, the man for whom they are supposedly searching,
[38:34] Speaker 12: will be on that boat Wolf. He will very probably
[38:37] Speaker 12: remain out of sight until they leave the steamer for
[38:40] Speaker 12: the Junger. He will have the map I see, and
[38:44] Speaker 12: the young fellow is not lost.
[38:47] Speaker 3: What's the game?
[38:49] Speaker 12: It is enough for you to know that by bringing
[38:51] Speaker 12: me that map you will receive for your work one
[38:54] Speaker 12: thousand pounds.
[38:56] Speaker 16: That map must be prett available if you're willing to
[38:59] Speaker 16: pay a thousand dollars ounds for it?
[39:01] Speaker 3: What is it? Very sure? Maybe you are laboring and
[39:06] Speaker 3: thinking delusion work? No, it is not treasure.
[39:09] Speaker 12: Are all archaeologists seeking the forbidden city of our share?
[39:14] Speaker 12: That map shows its location. I merely want the honor
[39:18] Speaker 12: of being its discovery.
[39:20] Speaker 3: That is all.
[39:21] Speaker 16: Well, it's never heard of any name of a sure.
[39:25] Speaker 16: But one never knows what to expect in Africa.
[39:29] Speaker 3: You know young Gregory. I I know him very well.
[39:32] Speaker 3: You might describe him, and I could know him when
[39:35] Speaker 3: I see him.
[39:36] Speaker 12: And Gregory as tall, strong as a water buffalo, and dark.
[39:41] Speaker 12: He can when occasion demands, with a speeding grace of
[39:44] Speaker 12: a leopard.
[39:45] Speaker 3: He has a broad white scar on his forehead.
[39:48] Speaker 16: What that is shown, Gregory to choke is on you
[39:53] Speaker 16: to exactly you have described Tarsan Tarsan.
[39:58] Speaker 8: Listen, both of you.
[39:59] Speaker 3: I see through last game a moment ago. Would you
[40:02] Speaker 3: ask me what the game was? I shall tell you.
[40:04] Speaker 12: Ryan Gregory tries to conceal his true identity under the
[40:08] Speaker 12: assumed name of Tarzan because he realizes that I know
[40:12] Speaker 12: he has the map of a Share and that he
[40:14] Speaker 12: is outfitting.
[40:15] Speaker 3: To go there. And does he know that you want
[40:17] Speaker 3: to me? Yes?
[40:19] Speaker 12: He also knows that once it is in my hands,
[40:21] Speaker 12: his life is not worth that.
[40:23] Speaker 3: You are sure he is Bran Craigory to old Man's son.
[40:27] Speaker 3: You heard me say so, did you not?
[40:29] Speaker 16: Oh?
[40:29] Speaker 3: I help you say?
[40:30] Speaker 12: Sul Magrey is a clever woman. She will get the
[40:34] Speaker 12: map by a strategy if possible.
[40:37] Speaker 3: If she fails, and you.
[40:39] Speaker 12: Will, But until the map is in your hands, no bloodshed.
[40:43] Speaker 16: Mark that I understand, but you told Mark this. I
[40:49] Speaker 16: do not mind putting someone out of today for the price,
[40:53] Speaker 16: but I must be sure it is the right man.
[40:56] Speaker 17: You are taking orders from me, Orf or orders will
[41:00] Speaker 17: be a bit to the letter, or this is your
[41:04] Speaker 17: last fatty welcome back.
[41:08] Speaker 1: Okay, Well, with all due respect, Wolf, I don't think
[41:12] Speaker 1: of you as a rival to Tarzan. Most likely you're
[41:17] Speaker 1: just gonna be an annoyance to him. But overall I
[41:20] Speaker 1: felt these were a solid three episodes. Did a great
[41:24] Speaker 1: job introducing the characters, establishing the settings, and really getting
[41:30] Speaker 1: us interested by raising so many questions what happened to
[41:37] Speaker 1: Brian Gregory? And what is the father of diamonds? And
[41:43] Speaker 1: add in Tom's statement that it wasn't treasure really does
[41:47] Speaker 1: make me wonder about it. Is it really treasure which
[41:52] Speaker 1: the father of diamonds would be?
[41:54] Speaker 8: That would be my.
[41:54] Speaker 1: First thought, and he just doesn't want someone as greedy
[41:58] Speaker 1: as Wolf to be aware of it?
[42:01] Speaker 3: Or if not, what is it?
[42:02] Speaker 10: Again?
[42:03] Speaker 1: Really good questions and does a great job drawing the
[42:08] Speaker 1: listener in. Now, if there were anything I would really nitpick,
[42:14] Speaker 1: I think that Tarzan looking like Brian Gregory. It was
[42:19] Speaker 1: a bit of a coincidence. Certainly, these sort of things
[42:23] Speaker 1: were not unheard of in radio programs of this era
[42:28] Speaker 1: and other types of fiction as well. But given the
[42:31] Speaker 1: way that it's resolved, it seems that the only reason
[42:37] Speaker 1: for having them look alike is to quickly get Tarzan
[42:42] Speaker 1: drawn into the adventure. But given all the adventures of Tarzan,
[42:46] Speaker 1: it seems like there'd be a less implausible way to
[42:51] Speaker 1: do it. But I will give this to the writers
[42:53] Speaker 1: that it does get him involved quickly, and that might
[42:57] Speaker 1: be the priority of the writers because this is a
[43:01] Speaker 1: jungle adventure and they want to get this story out
[43:04] Speaker 1: into the jungle and hang about in what's really the
[43:09] Speaker 1: setup for the story more than anything else. Tarzan was
[43:13] Speaker 1: adopted by a she ape named Kula, and her killing
[43:18] Speaker 1: became one of those keystones in his life. The way
[43:23] Speaker 1: he talks about it in this episode probably gives some
[43:28] Speaker 1: key insight as to where he's at and how he
[43:34] Speaker 1: viewsed the Gregories. It shows that Tarzan understands that this
[43:40] Speaker 1: is not something that most humans are going to relate to,
[43:45] Speaker 1: and it also reflects where he views his relationship with
[43:50] Speaker 1: the Gregory's at this point. Yes, he wants to help them,
[43:53] Speaker 1: they seem like decent people, but at this point he's
[43:57] Speaker 1: going to keep the information about himself that he shares
[44:01] Speaker 1: with them very limited. We'll see how that changes throughout
[44:05] Speaker 1: the serial. I also think it's safe to say that
[44:09] Speaker 1: Helen Gregory is not set up as a potential love
[44:13] Speaker 1: interest for Tarzan because of the backstory we did and
[44:18] Speaker 1: how his relationship with Jane at this point is a
[44:22] Speaker 1: bit unresolved. All right, Well, now it is time to
[44:25] Speaker 1: think our Patreon supporter of the day, and I want
[44:29] Speaker 1: to go ahead and thank Rick, Patreon supporter since March
