[3:51] Speaker 4: in the Western Maritime at Property Insurance Company Beverly Hill's office,
[3:55] Speaker 4: following as the count of expenses incurred during my investigation
[3:58] Speaker 4: of the bal Darol matter. Expense account out of one
[4:06] Speaker 4: one hundred and forty six eighty five plane ticket.
[4:09] Speaker 2: To Los Angeles, Earl Forman was, who I just finished working.
[4:12] Speaker 4: On a case, drove me from Sarasota to the International
[4:15] Speaker 4: Airport in Tampa.
[4:17] Speaker 2: Well, I don't know why not, Johnny? Are you kidding?
[4:20] Speaker 4: In this day and age a bunch of bearded gorillas
[4:22] Speaker 4: stripped to the waves, bandanas wrapped around their heads, waving cutlers.
[4:26] Speaker 4: I didn't say that a long, John Silver. I suppose
[4:29] Speaker 4: leading the boarding party. Oh, or that kind of stuff
[4:32] Speaker 4: went on a couple of hundred years ago.
[4:33] Speaker 2: Sure, sure, But you remember that balatial yacht that was
[4:36] Speaker 2: boarded and taken over just to up San Salvador about
[4:39] Speaker 2: a year ago. Wow, Yeah, convicts from a prison colony
[4:43] Speaker 2: on the island of Isabella. They had control of that
[4:46] Speaker 2: yacht for three days, Johnny.
[4:48] Speaker 4: When they left, they took along everything of value.
[4:50] Speaker 2: They could get their hands out. Yeah, you don't call
[4:53] Speaker 2: that piracy? Well maybe so, you think that's what happened
[4:58] Speaker 2: in this case. There's only one way.
[4:59] Speaker 4: To The flight to Los Angeles was uneventful thanks to
[5:06] Speaker 4: the time zone differential. It was only four thirty PM
[5:09] Speaker 4: when I arrived. I had him two six dollars even
[5:11] Speaker 4: for a cab to the Beverly Hilton where I parked
[5:13] Speaker 4: my bags. I had him three ten cents for a
[5:15] Speaker 4: phone call to Arthur. Arthur, who, if I remember correctly,
[5:19] Speaker 4: was quite a character. Good insurance man, but well character.
[5:24] Speaker 4: I had him four seventy.
[5:25] Speaker 2: Five cents for a cab to his office on Wisha Boulevard.
[5:27] Speaker 2: Years it all happened somewhere off the coast of Mexico.
[5:32] Speaker 2: Mister Balgistin and his party would just cruise around. They
[5:35] Speaker 2: would just take a life. He eats Balston is the
[5:37] Speaker 2: owner of the arts. HB. Balston. Oh, he's a big
[5:41] Speaker 2: stock booker. He lives in Beverly Hills. It's thirty one
[5:43] Speaker 2: twenty four in the Roxbury Guns. And what's the name
[5:46] Speaker 2: of his youth, the Buldero. It is a tremendous ejo.
[5:50] Speaker 2: It's trom met over one hundred feet insteads wow feet long. Arthur,
[5:55] Speaker 2: where does he keep it? Now? We're just all with
[5:58] Speaker 2: his dark he's down in barber Or knew? Are balboy? Yes? Yes? Oh,
[6:02] Speaker 2: one of the nicest places by the ocean in all
[6:04] Speaker 2: of California. Why Johnny, if I ever were retired. The
[6:08] Speaker 2: guests on board, well, let me see his wife, of course,
[6:11] Speaker 2: and mister and missus Gerald Hooper and young Richard Spider
[6:15] Speaker 2: and Lee Wilway. Just cruising around. Yes, but they'd planned
[6:19] Speaker 2: to sail up to San Francisco for that big charity
[6:21] Speaker 2: ball out there on the thirty off. That's why they
[6:23] Speaker 2: all had their finest clothes, the most expensive jewelry with him. Oh,
[6:28] Speaker 2: three hundred and ninety four thousand dollars worth of jewelry stolen,
[6:34] Speaker 2: plus a few other things too, mostly silverware, things like that. Actually,
[6:38] Speaker 2: it was reported to me by one of the guests
[6:40] Speaker 2: on the yachts.
[6:41] Speaker 4: These these pirates simply pulled alongside the middle of the night,
[6:45] Speaker 4: held them at gunpoint, took the stuff and left.
[6:47] Speaker 2: That's right, I got it. There were two of them. My,
[6:49] Speaker 2: they must have been a horrid fellace. Just where off
[6:52] Speaker 2: the coast of Mexico did this happen? And I'm not
[6:54] Speaker 2: quite sure. Mister Baldiston Mozilla, well, he was kind of
[6:58] Speaker 2: vague about were it happy? He's kind of a vague.
[7:02] Speaker 4: Maybe I better talk to him. Yes, by all means, Johney,
[7:05] Speaker 4: Yeah right.
[7:06] Speaker 2: I'll see you later.
[7:11] Speaker 4: I had them five fifty bucks to parse it on
[7:13] Speaker 4: a rental car. I drove to the Baldiston's home or
[7:15] Speaker 4: North Roxburg. It was a tremendous place and one of
[7:18] Speaker 4: the most wealthy parts of Beverly Hills. A snansy looking
[7:21] Speaker 4: sports car was parked in the broad driveway, and as
[7:24] Speaker 4: I walked up to the front door, another.
[7:26] Speaker 2: Car, big sedan, pulled in the drive.
[7:28] Speaker 4: A heavy set, well dressed, rather nice looking man of
[7:31] Speaker 4: about fifty got out of it and came over to me.
[7:35] Speaker 4: Are you looking for someone, young man?
[7:38] Speaker 2: Well, I believe this is the Baldiston residence.
[7:40] Speaker 4: That's right, and I'm Harry Baldiston.
[7:42] Speaker 2: Oh well, my name is Dollar, mister Baliston.
[7:44] Speaker 4: Johnny Dollar, the insurance investigator of mister Arthur sent Fort.
[7:47] Speaker 2: That's right, sir, Well, come in, come in.
[7:49] Speaker 4: We'll have a cocktailor too. I understand it's that time
[7:53] Speaker 4: of day, and I'm sure you won't object. Not of
[7:55] Speaker 4: good and I'll tell you all about the unfortunate affair
[7:58] Speaker 4: aboard the Baldero. Happened just night before astronaut, So I understand,
[8:03] Speaker 4: but I'm not quite clear as to just exactly where
[8:05] Speaker 4: you were when it happened, down off the Mexican coast. Dollar,
[8:08] Speaker 4: that's down down nice.
[8:10] Speaker 2: Yes, it took us.
[8:11] Speaker 4: Nearly twelve hours to get back to Balbo and eleven knots. Well,
[8:15] Speaker 4: you can figure it out yourself.
[8:18] Speaker 2: Mary Lee. Yes, come on down, dear.
[8:22] Speaker 4: I want you to meet mister Johnny Dollar. Now I'll
[8:26] Speaker 4: pour us a drink and tell you all about it.
[8:31] Speaker 2: So he poured.
[8:32] Speaker 4: His wife joined us, and we talked, But I'm afraid
[8:35] Speaker 4: I didn't learn much more than I already knew. They'd
[8:38] Speaker 4: both been asleep when it happened. The so called pirates
[8:41] Speaker 4: had come aboard very quietly, bothly.
[8:44] Speaker 2: And their guests had been held in their.
[8:45] Speaker 4: Respective cabins by one of the men while the other
[8:48] Speaker 4: gathered the loot. The men had worn long oil skin raincoats,
[8:51] Speaker 4: had nylon stockings pull over their faces to conceal their identities.
[8:55] Speaker 2: Only one of the.
[8:56] Speaker 4: Guests, Lee Wilway, had even seen the boat they'd used,
[9:00] Speaker 4: so never did tell me definitely where it happened.
[9:03] Speaker 2: And the more I listened, the more suspicious I got. Yeah,
[9:07] Speaker 2: suspicious of him.
[9:12] Speaker 4: Act two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar. In a moment,
[9:17] Speaker 4: there goes a treasure car, there goes another, and another,
[9:23] Speaker 4: and one of them may be your car. Yes, folks,
[9:26] Speaker 4: you may have a Fram treasure hunt filter in your
[9:28] Speaker 4: car worth a thousand dollars and not.
[9:29] Speaker 2: Even know it.
[9:30] Speaker 4: A Fram filter worth one thousand silver dollars. A filter
[9:33] Speaker 4: change is important to today's cars, so important that Fram Corporation,
[9:37] Speaker 4: in conjunction with its silver Anniversary is paying sixty thousand
[9:41] Speaker 4: dollars in cash to get you to check your filters now.
[9:44] Speaker 4: Last year, ten thousand secretly numbered Fram filters were distributed
[9:48] Speaker 4: all over the United States and installed in cars during
[9:51] Speaker 4: regular servicings. These filters are worth from one dollar to
[9:54] Speaker 4: one thousand dollars. You may have one in your car
[9:56] Speaker 4: and not even know it. A Fram filter worth one thousand.
[9:59] Speaker 4: Still check your oil filter and the air filter.
[10:02] Speaker 2: Now. If there's a specially numbered Fram filter in your car,
[10:05] Speaker 2: you will win up to one thousand silver dollars and
[10:08] Speaker 2: your dealer will win the same amount. Get in on
[10:10] Speaker 2: Fram's big silver pressure hunt. Check your car filters now.
[10:14] Speaker 4: Now act too of yours truly, Johnny Dollar and the
[10:17] Speaker 4: ball Durrel matter.
[10:27] Speaker 2: Tell Dollar, it was hard to tell just where we were.
[10:30] Speaker 4: I keep an engineer on board, and he'd been at
[10:32] Speaker 4: the wheel most of the day, but you were anchored
[10:34] Speaker 4: for the night.
[10:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
[10:36] Speaker 4: You see, we were just killing time until it was
[10:38] Speaker 4: time to head north to San Francisco. And that the
[10:41] Speaker 4: charity ball the lady wanted to go to.
[10:43] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the charity ball, and after waiting two months,
[10:47] Speaker 3: Now I suppose we just have to forget it. With
[10:49] Speaker 3: all off, jewelry gone.
[10:50] Speaker 2: Didn't you check your position to find your way back
[10:52] Speaker 2: to Balboa?
[10:53] Speaker 4: Just headed east then follow the shoreline.
[10:55] Speaker 2: You say that one of your guests incidentally, I want
[10:58] Speaker 2: to check with them. Oh, by all means, I'll give
[11:00] Speaker 2: you that address.
[11:01] Speaker 4: Yes, there may have been details that we've forgotten overlooked.
[11:05] Speaker 4: After all, we were a bit upset over what had happened,
[11:07] Speaker 4: and probably more than a little confused.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Well, I know I was. You said that one of
[11:12] Speaker 2: your friends got to look at the boat these menus.
[11:14] Speaker 4: Yes, yes, Lee Willwei ran up on deck. Of course
[11:18] Speaker 4: it was dark and there was some fog, but Lee
[11:20] Speaker 4: said it was.
[11:21] Speaker 2: A black boat.
[11:22] Speaker 4: Well, now you're a long black speedboat.
[11:24] Speaker 3: Maybe by the time the rest of us got up
[11:27] Speaker 3: there and had completely disappeared.
[11:28] Speaker 4: When I had Beacon start the diesels and we made
[11:32] Speaker 4: the run back to Balboa.
[11:33] Speaker 2: You'll notified the coastguard, of course.
[11:35] Speaker 4: Not until he got in what Well, Lee had been
[11:38] Speaker 4: fooling with the radio earlier. The rest of us were
[11:41] Speaker 4: in the main cabin playing cards, and well when we
[11:45] Speaker 4: tried to send out a call, the transmitter wouldn't work.
[11:48] Speaker 2: Where I find this.
[11:49] Speaker 3: Lee will Way Here I've written down the address for
[11:51] Speaker 3: you and our other guests too, mister and missus Hooper
[11:54] Speaker 3: and Richard Speidal.
[11:55] Speaker 4: Thank you now, mister Dollar, mister Palleston, I'll see you lady.
[12:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[12:05] Speaker 4: There was something very funny about this whole thing, but
[12:08] Speaker 4: I wasn't quite sure just what I checked with mister
[12:11] Speaker 4: missus Hooper, elderly, very quiet and dignified. Their story was
[12:15] Speaker 4: the same as the baldistants, except in one thing. They
[12:18] Speaker 4: weren't it all sure? It had taken them many twelve
[12:20] Speaker 4: hours to get back to Ports. I drove to the
[12:23] Speaker 4: address of Lee Wilway. It was a small apartment below Wilshire.
[12:27] Speaker 4: After all of Lee was the only one awake and
[12:28] Speaker 4: alert enough to have taken a good look at the
[12:30] Speaker 4: pirates in their boats. Yeah, and what about the yachts
[12:33] Speaker 4: radio that wouldn't work after Lee had spent.
[12:35] Speaker 2: The evening fooling with it. Yeah, Oh, I beg well,
[12:41] Speaker 2: that is I'm looking for Lee Wilway Finley, Who are
[12:45] Speaker 2: you believe me? Charles of the Ritz would have been
[12:50] Speaker 2: proud of this one. A Levin doll twenty three or four.
[12:55] Speaker 2: She was tall, slim and a pretty face top with
[12:58] Speaker 2: red hair that looked oh so carefully this arrange. Yeah,
[13:02] Speaker 2: she was a beauty.
[13:03] Speaker 4: And yet as we talked, I couldn't quite picture this
[13:06] Speaker 4: gal on a yachting trip with the Balistons.
[13:09] Speaker 6: Gee, you No, I haven't the least idea where we
[13:11] Speaker 6: were when it happened, Johny. It could have been a
[13:12] Speaker 6: million miles out to see. But if Baldy, I mean
[13:17] Speaker 6: mister Baldiston says it took us twelve hours to get back,
[13:20] Speaker 6: it must have taken us twelve hours.
[13:21] Speaker 4: And you're sure you didn't recognize either of the men
[13:24] Speaker 4: who boarded the Yachtlie, huh.
[13:25] Speaker 6: I certainly didn't. But I saw the boat they had
[13:28] Speaker 6: was a long black one, solid black, solid black.
[13:31] Speaker 2: Did anyone else on board see that boat?
[13:33] Speaker 4: No?
[13:34] Speaker 2: They, I don't think. So what did you do after
[13:38] Speaker 2: they left?
[13:38] Speaker 6: Went up to the bridge to the radio.
[13:42] Speaker 2: Didn't they tell you to call a coast guard?
[13:44] Speaker 6: Yeah?
[13:44] Speaker 2: Surely they said. You were at the radio earlier, Yeah.
[13:49] Speaker 6: Just listening. But after it was over and I tried
[13:52] Speaker 6: to call the coastguard, well it just wouldn't work.
[13:55] Speaker 4: Like another drink, Johnny, the Baldistons and Hoopers were playing
[13:58] Speaker 4: bridge earlier.
[13:58] Speaker 6: Yes, look, Johnny, you yet.
[14:00] Speaker 2: Were the other guests. Dickie boy, Yes, sick. And what
[14:05] Speaker 2: did he do after you were bored and robs?
[14:07] Speaker 6: Uh? He was probably Donnie's cabin with his head under
[14:10] Speaker 6: the cover, scared the desk. He had any nerve he
[14:13] Speaker 6: could have stopped them too, What do you mean? Well,
[14:15] Speaker 6: his was the one cabin they didn't go into, They
[14:17] Speaker 6: didn't bother him, and he knew there was a rifle
[14:20] Speaker 6: they used for shooting sharks. You knew it was on
[14:22] Speaker 6: the rack just outside his door. And if he'd come
[14:24] Speaker 6: up shooting with it or those pirates would have jumped
[14:27] Speaker 6: overboard and run for home. I just bet they would.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Apparently you don't think much of the stick spidle, would you.
[14:33] Speaker 6: I mean acting like that, I mean doing nothing when
[14:36] Speaker 6: he could have accidentally.
[14:38] Speaker 4: When I stopped at the Baldistons, I saw a sports
[14:40] Speaker 4: car outside.
[14:41] Speaker 6: Oh yeah, isn't it a dream boat? It's Larry's.
[14:44] Speaker 2: Who's Larry, Larry Baldiston?
[14:48] Speaker 6: He's my Oh gee, Johnny, I'm getting hungry. Why don't
[14:52] Speaker 6: we have another drink and then have some dinner.
[14:54] Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm afraid of can't.
[14:57] Speaker 6: I'm not used to being turned down.
[15:00] Speaker 4: Well, I'm sorry, but there are a couple of people
[15:02] Speaker 4: I've got to see. Oh, like who your friend Dick
[15:05] Speaker 4: Spitle among others. Oh, I'll see you, ladily, I'll be here, Johnny.
[15:14] Speaker 4: I guess I'm not as familiar with the streets of
[15:16] Speaker 4: Los Angeles as I thought. It took me over a
[15:18] Speaker 4: half an hour to find Spidal's apartment.
[15:21] Speaker 2: It was one of those ultra swank.
[15:22] Speaker 4: Affairs, just off sweets of Avenue, below the famous sunset strip.
[15:26] Speaker 4: I parked under a big palm tree. Then as I
[15:28] Speaker 4: backed out of my car, another one roar it up
[15:30] Speaker 4: and stopped behind me, where the headlights partly blinded me.
[15:34] Speaker 4: Just a minute, you ah, Johnny Dollar, that's right, who
[15:38] Speaker 4: are you here? Act three of yours? Truly Johnny Dollar
[15:54] Speaker 4: in a moment, ever have trouble sleeping nights because of
[15:58] Speaker 4: acid indigestion, heartburn, nor gas, then remember, for acid indigestion,
[16:03] Speaker 4: nothing but Tom's work so fast to make you feel
[16:06] Speaker 4: so good. So long Toms work fast, get rid of
[16:09] Speaker 4: the burning excess acids that won't let you sleep. In
[16:12] Speaker 4: a matter of seconds, you begin to feel better, and
[16:15] Speaker 4: Tom's relief stays with you. You relax, go to sleep pleasantly
[16:19] Speaker 4: because toms bring complete relief, Get rid of burning excess
[16:23] Speaker 4: stomach acids completely. Nothing but Tom's work so fast to
[16:27] Speaker 4: make you feel so good, so long.
[16:29] Speaker 2: So when acid indigestion keeps you awake, take Toms.
[16:33] Speaker 4: Keep a handy roll of Tombs on the night table
[16:35] Speaker 4: within easy reach. And remember there's no mixing or fixing
[16:38] Speaker 4: with Toms. You don't even need to get out of bed.
[16:41] Speaker 4: Get the very best. Get Toms ten cents, three roll
[16:45] Speaker 4: pack a quarter, or get the new six roll pack
[16:48] Speaker 4: with free metal carrier only forty nine cents. Always carry Toms. Tums,
[16:53] Speaker 4: keep your tummy under Tom's control, and now act three
[16:58] Speaker 4: of yours, truly, Johnny Dollars. The headlights of my attacker's
[17:04] Speaker 4: car had partly blinded me, but I've seen enough of
[17:07] Speaker 4: it to know it was the same one i'd seen
[17:08] Speaker 4: at the home of mister Baldiston, Yeah, his son, Larry's.
[17:12] Speaker 4: But I came to to find myself far behind the
[17:14] Speaker 4: wheel of my own car, and lying on the seat
[17:16] Speaker 4: beside me were five CRISP hundred dollar bills and a note,
[17:22] Speaker 4: take this money and get out of town. It said,
[17:25] Speaker 4: you have no case anyway, because the things that were
[17:27] Speaker 4: stolen off the yacht have been returned, so you may
[17:32] Speaker 4: as well leave while you have your health no signature.
[17:40] Speaker 4: There was only one person in the world I wanted
[17:42] Speaker 4: to see at that moment, Larry Baliston. I felt a
[17:45] Speaker 4: bit rock since I was at the front door of
[17:47] Speaker 4: Dick's Spidal's apartment. Said I've really come to see him,
[17:50] Speaker 4: and if I was lucky, he might have a good
[17:52] Speaker 4: stiff drink heady feeling better.
[17:56] Speaker 7: Now, mister dollar, Yeah, yeah, I am THI stick it's
[18:00] Speaker 7: Richard if you don't mind.
[18:01] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, sure, but go on with what you were saying.
[18:05] Speaker 7: Well, the whole thing was absurd, of course, but the
[18:08] Speaker 7: only reason missus Baliston insisted on taking Lee on that
[18:11] Speaker 7: yachting trip under the charity affair, and of course I
[18:13] Speaker 7: was supposed to be her escort, was to shame.
[18:15] Speaker 2: Her to shore up. How do you mean? Well?
[18:18] Speaker 7: After all, in spite of her beauty, she is a
[18:21] Speaker 7: rather common person, not the cheap. So Missus Balalaston hopes
[18:25] Speaker 7: that facing her the ladies and gentlemen who attend the
[18:28] Speaker 7: ball would embarrass him and she'd realize she has no place.
[18:31] Speaker 2: Among people like ourselves. People like you were just too
[18:34] Speaker 2: good for her. Well, to put it, bluntly yes.
[18:38] Speaker 7: In any event, missus Baliston hoped it would break off
[18:40] Speaker 7: this rather sordid romance. Romance she and Lawrence Balsden That Larry,
[18:46] Speaker 7: she calls him, and Lee is only after his money.
[18:48] Speaker 2: But I take it Larry got wind of this little plan.
[18:51] Speaker 7: Lawrence said that he would prevent its being carried out
[18:53] Speaker 7: if it is the last thing he ever did.
[18:55] Speaker 2: So he stayed the piracy.
[18:57] Speaker 7: Oh, I'm sure it was he. He's always done stilly
[19:00] Speaker 7: things like that, mister dollar rich headstrong, spoiled.
[19:03] Speaker 2: As he is.
[19:04] Speaker 7: So when I heard the noise up on deck, I
[19:06] Speaker 7: simply locked myself in my cabin and refused to budge.
[19:08] Speaker 7: When he and whoever he had helping him board the yacht.
[19:12] Speaker 4: Or because you were scared, I thank your.
[19:15] Speaker 2: Pardon, thanks a lot. It's rich.
[19:19] Speaker 4: Ohincidentally, yes, you think Lee will Way was in on
[19:22] Speaker 4: it too, That that's why she spent so much time
[19:25] Speaker 4: on the ship's radio earlier.
[19:26] Speaker 7: In the evening injupiively so that she could guide him
[19:29] Speaker 7: to the yacht and his speedboat. His speedboat, of course,
[19:31] Speaker 7: there's all sorts of radio.
[19:32] Speaker 2: Equipment of bullet What color is that speedboat?
[19:35] Speaker 7: Mahogany?
[19:36] Speaker 4: We said the pirates were using a solid black boat,
[19:39] Speaker 4: which simply proved she was onto.
[19:41] Speaker 7: His plan and the stupid the wench was lying, that's all.
[19:46] Speaker 2: Maybe you're right. Thanks Dick, it's Richard.
[19:49] Speaker 5: If you don't.
[19:58] Speaker 2: Do come in, thank you. Miss.
[20:00] Speaker 3: My husband's on the telephone talking to the engineer of
[20:02] Speaker 3: our yacht down in Balboa.
[20:04] Speaker 2: And what do you think of that? I think I
[20:06] Speaker 2: can guess it's fine.
[20:07] Speaker 4: Just stay on watch and I'll be back down there
[20:10] Speaker 4: to pick those things up in the morning. Goodbye, It's true, Mary.
[20:14] Speaker 7: Be it's splendid.
[20:15] Speaker 4: Whoever took them from us returned everything to the boat.
[20:18] Speaker 4: Everything is Oh, mister Dollar, did you hear that?
[20:21] Speaker 2: Yes? I heard. Where is your son, Larry or Lawrence
[20:24] Speaker 2: or whatever you call him? Larry was a.
[20:26] Speaker 4: Matter of fact.
[20:26] Speaker 3: Dear boy came in just a little while ago.
[20:29] Speaker 7: Where is he in the study?
[20:31] Speaker 2: I believe he said he had a call.
[20:33] Speaker 3: To make on the other phone.
[20:34] Speaker 2: Thanks.
[20:34] Speaker 3: Why what's rough, mister mister?
[20:41] Speaker 2: Yes, I thought this was a window Lee trying to
[20:44] Speaker 2: make up to that guy Dollar. And let me tell
[20:46] Speaker 2: you this. Let me give you this, Clarry, Clarry, what
[20:52] Speaker 2: is it more? Larry? Well, if that's the.
[20:56] Speaker 6: Way you feel about it, you and that family if
[20:58] Speaker 6: yours can?
[21:01] Speaker 2: I said, do you want some more? Do you want
[21:02] Speaker 2: to start talking? Okay? Okay, I did it.
[21:07] Speaker 5: I read the whole thing, Jimmy driscoll and I because
[21:10] Speaker 5: I was fed up with the way mother was trying
[21:11] Speaker 5: to run my life. Yeah, but maybe she was right
[21:14] Speaker 5: about Lee after all, of course she was costa. But
[21:18] Speaker 5: now look, Dolly, if you think you can get away
[21:20] Speaker 5: with barging in here and slugging me, yeah, why go more?
[21:33] Speaker 2: Orry? Huh? You had enough? Yeah?
[21:37] Speaker 4: Okay, don okay, Sorry, it has to ball this then,
[21:40] Speaker 4: But I kind of owed it to him dollar. I've
[21:43] Speaker 4: been hoping somebody do that for a long time. Sure,
[21:48] Speaker 4: I I've spoil him too.
[21:50] Speaker 2: It's been my fault as much as his mother's.
[21:53] Speaker 4: But I never had any idea you carry things as
[21:56] Speaker 4: far as you did. Of course, if you like, sir,
[21:58] Speaker 4: I could prefer soap charges versus a tack.
[22:00] Speaker 2: On me earlier.
[22:01] Speaker 4: No, no, no, I don't think it will be necessary.
[22:04] Speaker 2: And how much obliged to you?
[22:06] Speaker 4: Just leave him alone? Mary Lee? I suppose you leave
[22:10] Speaker 4: us alone while I settle things with mister dollars.
[22:19] Speaker 2: He in this case, forget it.
[22:21] Speaker 4: The five hundred that Larry mistaken they tried to bribe
[22:23] Speaker 4: me with, plus a nice fat check from mister Balderston.
[22:27] Speaker 4: Well once is the thought of it hurts me. Let's
[22:30] Speaker 4: forget the expense account too. Okay, okay, yours truly, Johnny Dollar.
[22:48] Speaker 4: Our star will return in just a moment. Now here's
[22:52] Speaker 4: our star. I'll tell you about next week story next week.
[22:55] Speaker 4: Oh wait a minute, related congratulations the station WGLS and
[22:59] Speaker 4: Beckley Westvitche on its twentieth anniversary.
[23:02] Speaker 2: Next week, I really go fishing. Yeah for a body
[23:05] Speaker 2: in the middle of Lake ned join us, won't you?
[23:08] Speaker 2: Yours truly?
[23:09] Speaker 4: Shanny Doller, Yours truly Johnny Dollars, starring Bob Bailey, originates
[23:29] Speaker 4: in Hollywood and has written, produced and directed by Jack Johnstone.
[23:35] Speaker 4: Heard in our cast were Virginia Greg eleanor Ugly, Vic Pern,
[23:39] Speaker 4: Howard mcneer, Larry Dobkin, will Wright, Carlton G.
[23:43] Speaker 2: Young and Jack Edwards. Be sure to join us next.
[23:46] Speaker 4: Week, same time and station or another exciting story of yours, truly,
[23:51] Speaker 4: Johnny Dollar.
[23:54] Speaker 8: This is Dan Cubberly speaking.
[24:23] Speaker 1: Welcome back. I think the one thing that I struggled
[24:26] Speaker 1: to buy on this episode is Johnny not understanding how
[24:31] Speaker 1: modern day pirates work. That just doesn't make sense for
[24:36] Speaker 1: someone who works in the insurance industry, particularly to the
[24:40] Speaker 1: degree that Johnny does. I think it may have been
[24:44] Speaker 1: to give a point of information to the audience, but
[24:48] Speaker 1: this feels like this would have worked better as narration.
[24:51] Speaker 1: Other than that, I found this a pretty enjoyable story.
[24:56] Speaker 1: Other than getting knocked down, this was a pretty a
[25:00] Speaker 1: case for Johnny. He got to not only solve the case,
[25:04] Speaker 1: but punch out an entitled, rich kid and get paid
[25:08] Speaker 1: handsomely for it. Also, this did seem like a much
[25:12] Speaker 1: bigger cast than we've been getting in recent weeks. It
[25:16] Speaker 1: does make me wonder if there might have been some
[25:20] Speaker 1: increase in budget tied to the sponsor ads that appeared
[25:25] Speaker 1: in this episode. And this really reflected a broader industry
[25:31] Speaker 1: shift as we moved away from shows having single sponsors
[25:36] Speaker 1: or maybe two sponsors, which NBC did a couple of
[25:41] Speaker 1: times with a few shows in the early fifties. Here
[25:44] Speaker 1: you've got multiple sponsors, each buying a spot, and this
[25:50] Speaker 1: was becoming the norm on television as well. And so
[25:55] Speaker 1: this reminds me a lot of the structure of programming
[25:59] Speaker 1: when I was watching television when I was a kid.
[26:03] Speaker 1: Although I do think one thing that Johnny Dollar would
[26:07] Speaker 1: do is it would often have two frequent commercial breaks,
[26:12] Speaker 1: but only a single break each time. I personally prefer
[26:17] Speaker 1: fewer breaks but a little bit longer. I will also
[26:21] Speaker 1: say the fram oil filter commercial was really interesting, and
[26:25] Speaker 1: I would be checking my oil filter if the contest
[26:30] Speaker 1: hadn't ended twenty plus years before I was born. But
[26:35] Speaker 1: any rate, We turn now to listener comments and feedback,
[26:39] Speaker 1: and we start over on Facebook, where regarding the episode
[26:45] Speaker 1: The Blue Madonna Matter, Joey Wright's great to hear from
[26:48] Speaker 1: the Great cat again and looking forward to more episodes
[26:52] Speaker 1: with him. Well, he's not in a lot of episodes,
[26:57] Speaker 1: but he comes by every now and again, and we'll
[27:01] Speaker 1: definitely have some interesting times ahead. And then over on Instagram,
[27:08] Speaker 1: we have a comment Janine, who rites on Instagram, I'm
[27:14] Speaker 1: one hundred percent old time radio commercials. Please keep leaving
[27:18] Speaker 1: the man, appreciate the feedback, and I hope you enjoyed
[27:21] Speaker 1: this week's episode. And then our listener writes over on YouTube,
[27:27] Speaker 1: haven't even paid attention. You are knocking on twenty thousand subscribers.
[27:32] Speaker 1: Way to go, and As of this recording, we're getting close.
[27:36] Speaker 1: We're nineteen thousand, three hundred and ninety one subscribers on YouTube,
[27:41] Speaker 1: which isn't a huge YouTube channel by any means, but
[27:46] Speaker 1: given that we spent so many years under ten thousand,
[27:50] Speaker 1: it's great to see where it is. And I appreciate
[27:52] Speaker 1: all the folks who are listening and subscribing over on
[27:56] Speaker 1: YouTube for all of their support. And now it's it's
[28:00] Speaker 1: time to go ahead and thank our Patreon supporter of
[28:04] Speaker 1: the day, and I want to thank Larry, Patreon supporter

[28:32] Speaker 1: We'll be back in two weeks with another episode of
[28:37] Speaker 1: Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, but join us back here tomorrow
[28:41] Speaker 1: as we give way to the great adventurers of old
[28:43] Speaker 1: time radio and counterspy, where.
[28:47] Speaker 4: I know some of us here paid a little more
[28:49] Speaker 4: for our houses than the rest of it. A larger
[28:51] Speaker 4: house or more land. But whatever you paid, I think
[28:53] Speaker 4: we're all agreed that it was too much for what
[28:55] Speaker 4: we got, no question about that. Now, our individual complaints
[28:58] Speaker 4: are pretty similar, green woe, good flooded sellers, crumbling foundations,
[29:02] Speaker 4: poor flashings, bad drainage.
[29:03] Speaker 2: Well you know them as well as.
[29:04] Speaker 4: I do, perhaps better Andy, perhaps, But the point is
[29:07] Speaker 4: the majority of them can be repaired at those expense. Yeah, yeah,
[29:12] Speaker 4: I don't want to sink any any more money into
[29:14] Speaker 4: my house. You won't have to, Tommy, at least I hope not.
[29:17] Speaker 2: And who will, mister Gora.
[29:18] Speaker 4: If we all stick together, mister Bradley, I think we
[29:21] Speaker 4: can make the open up real estate company bear the expense.
[29:23] Speaker 2: What you've been drinking, Andy, No, I'm serious.
[29:27] Speaker 4: And yeah, but that's all it is, mister Hobbs. The
[29:30] Speaker 4: real estate company has only one interest in these houses now.
[29:34] Speaker 4: It's not repairing them. It's collecting on the mortgage, right, Tommy,
[29:37] Speaker 4: And that's our weapon. We refuse to pay those mortgages.
[29:41] Speaker 4: What until steps are taken to remedy our complaints.
[29:44] Speaker 2: What about foreclosure?
[29:46] Speaker 4: Well that is a possibility, mister Bradley, and we should
[29:49] Speaker 4: face it.
[29:49] Speaker 2: But if we all stick together.
[29:51] Speaker 4: I doubt that mister Hobbs will foreclose on forty five
[29:54] Speaker 4: houses at once. It would certainly be bad publicity if
[29:58] Speaker 4: he did. Whether or not that will buy, I don't know,
[30:01] Speaker 4: but not getting his money will hope.
