[1:49] Speaker 2: might be With Larry Thor as Detective Danny Colbert, it
[2:06] Speaker 2: comes to every street, and it comes to Broadway a
[2:08] Speaker 2: single moment. When daytime dies one night is just across
[2:12] Speaker 2: the street. The Great shadow blows in from the river, scatters,
[2:16] Speaker 2: finds a corner, a doorway, a face, layers them with
[2:20] Speaker 2: chill and darkness, and then it happens, the drench of
[2:24] Speaker 2: neon and spinning lights and flare, and for those who
[2:27] Speaker 2: need it, high above stars of the city moon Broadway,
[2:31] Speaker 2: flips a cigarette into the gutter and runs into the night.
[2:40] Speaker 2: The night was hours old. Where I was, it came
[2:43] Speaker 2: sooner and stayed longer basement apartments was forty nine and
[2:47] Speaker 2: the simple statement from a flightened, man, I.
[2:50] Speaker 3: Don't care what you think that girl lang, I didn't
[2:53] Speaker 3: kill her.
[2:54] Speaker 2: I didn't strain the fact that you call the police.
[2:56] Speaker 2: Mister lehis a point in your favor. But how do
[2:58] Speaker 2: you think I'm playing with your game? I think a
[3:00] Speaker 2: point in my favorite point? What are you talking about?
[3:02] Speaker 2: Points for? I didn't kill her? Now, this girl is sure,
[3:05] Speaker 2: I go Irene Hall. She can entertain it? Oh what
[3:09] Speaker 2: do you mean Hall? What about it?
[3:10] Speaker 3: I know an entertainer that makes me a murderer.
[3:13] Speaker 2: It was a cute personality and she attackted me. So
[3:15] Speaker 2: I made a date with it.
[3:16] Speaker 4: How did it happened to find her, mister LEI?
[3:18] Speaker 3: I had a herd date to eleven o'clock. I had
[3:20] Speaker 3: half hour ago. I knocked on the door. I heard
[3:23] Speaker 3: her crying out like she was being hurt. I kicked
[3:25] Speaker 3: in the door.
[3:26] Speaker 2: Come here, come on, I want to step around here
[3:29] Speaker 2: on that pocket book on the floor.
[3:30] Speaker 3: Yes, ladies, face part of my shoes already from that miss.
[3:36] Speaker 2: Feel her cheek for him colder. I'm going to tell
[3:40] Speaker 2: you something. This girl's been dead for a couple of
[3:42] Speaker 2: hours at least that long.
[3:45] Speaker 3: You're trying to trick me or something.
[3:46] Speaker 2: I'm telling you. I heard her cry out.
[3:48] Speaker 3: She was yelling for help.
[3:50] Speaker 4: You don't believe me doing it.
[3:51] Speaker 2: You guys, forget a bang out of roughing up stranger,
[3:54] Speaker 2: for nobody's roughing up. I'm just asking a few questions,
[3:56] Speaker 2: that's all, Like how long you've been a stranger in.
[3:59] Speaker 3: Town from Cleveland? The contention pat medison voice. I'm inviting
[4:03] Speaker 3: them in concentrate. And this girl entertained at one of
[4:05] Speaker 3: your meetings, is that right?
[4:06] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[4:07] Speaker 3: Te night after the magician last night, she did a
[4:09] Speaker 3: Queen of Sheba got rolled out in the rug, a
[4:12] Speaker 3: real cute personality. And look, mister whoever has killed little Ireen.
[4:17] Speaker 5: Walked right out of that back door. That caught you high,
[4:19] Speaker 5: But then he walked away.
[4:22] Speaker 3: Please don't ask me any more questions.
[4:25] Speaker 2: We mean a long night.
[4:25] Speaker 3: I gotta have time to adjust my thoughts.
[4:32] Speaker 2: Then the intrusion of those sounds of night that are
[4:34] Speaker 2: ten violence, a furtive gathering of cloud outside the base
[4:37] Speaker 2: of the apartment, and the sudden shriek of a woman's
[4:40] Speaker 2: laughter from a party upstairs, that for an instant stills
[4:43] Speaker 2: the night. Then first drift the streets. In the streets
[4:47] Speaker 2: that is the arrival of the official probers into death
[4:49] Speaker 2: and their entrance into the apartment. Watched them briefly as
[4:53] Speaker 2: they pry, they lift possessions of the dead girl, hold
[4:56] Speaker 2: them up to the light. Then as they bend over
[4:59] Speaker 2: the spilled pocketbook finger its contents, scraped the filled powder
[5:02] Speaker 2: off the floor in the small envelopes. Then leave them
[5:06] Speaker 2: and lead myron Lehigh through out of there. And the
[5:09] Speaker 2: girl in the crowd touches his coat here is close
[5:11] Speaker 2: into his face, grins, lets him go, and at headquarters
[5:23] Speaker 2: book myron Lehigh on suspicion of murder, given the knight
[5:26] Speaker 2: to adjust his thoughts. Then in the squadroom, throw a
[5:30] Speaker 2: blanket over the cot and dream of sleep. Somewhere dreams,
[5:34] Speaker 2: then the voice that breaks him up.
[5:36] Speaker 5: Danny, up right is the morning, so rise and shine
[5:40] Speaker 5: alongside up, Danny.
[5:43] Speaker 2: I heard you, you know I heard you.
[5:45] Speaker 5: There surprises this day that his bond has in store
[5:48] Speaker 5: for you, Danny. The surprises like what like a container
[5:54] Speaker 5: steamy coffee, like a frosty color, which I sneak out
[5:57] Speaker 5: in the corner to get for you. Once information was past,
[6:00] Speaker 5: to meet you slumbered on a steel cotton We go
[6:03] Speaker 5: to the card table there, Danny, I laid it out
[6:05] Speaker 5: for you.
[6:06] Speaker 2: You know, taste good? Thanks again, Hm. A flower across
[6:18] Speaker 2: the color.
[6:19] Speaker 5: I thought it an added touch to start your day.
[6:22] Speaker 5: A baby blue bachelor button to sport in your wrinkled lapel.
[6:25] Speaker 4: You're very thoughtful, you know.
[6:27] Speaker 5: I try well. You are sufficiently cleared of cobwebs, Danny
[6:31] Speaker 5: to indulge me in the events that have passed in
[6:33] Speaker 5: the night.
[6:34] Speaker 2: Got ahead, Thank you.
[6:36] Speaker 5: According to our good doctor Sinski, you will indeed correct
[6:39] Speaker 5: in your diagnosis. Irene Hall had indeed been dead for
[6:42] Speaker 5: a couple hours before your arrival. That's by strangulation, bruises
[6:46] Speaker 5: on the throating or the like symptoms.
[6:48] Speaker 4: And what else?
[6:49] Speaker 6: What else is that the deceased.
[6:50] Speaker 5: Irene Hall is an entertainer who was booked out of
[6:53] Speaker 5: the Wentworth Theatrical Agency on West forty seven as Mother
[6:57] Speaker 5: Van was on night watch last night. He gathered his
[6:59] Speaker 5: infra from various sources.
[7:01] Speaker 2: What else did he gether?
[7:02] Speaker 5: The note barriers of our good detectives have made on
[7:05] Speaker 5: the questioning of the people at the party upstairs and
[7:07] Speaker 5: the killing.
[7:08] Speaker 6: All had alibis, as had the other tenants.
[7:11] Speaker 2: They are all sad Miss Hall is dead.
[7:13] Speaker 6: She was a cute girl.
[7:14] Speaker 2: They said. Worth Margamn now waiting for your back and

[7:21] Speaker 4: Oh, yes, you know I enjoyed the breakfast you laid
[7:24] Speaker 4: out for me.
[7:37] Speaker 2: Tires go. What's that supposed to do for you?
[7:39] Speaker 3: Mister Lehi comes up, the system gives you the old
[7:43] Speaker 3: peppinsin That's why it had a seat. Then, mister Lehigh
[7:46] Speaker 3: was just telling me about the patent mediciney pedals.
[7:48] Speaker 6: It's called tired go because it makes you happy.
[7:51] Speaker 3: I could stand the whole bottle of the large economy
[7:53] Speaker 3: size right now. You think it's fun spending at night in.
[7:56] Speaker 2: Shape you were a married man, mister Lehigh.
[7:59] Speaker 6: Tellmous Lee, I told you, didn't I the kid going
[8:02] Speaker 6: to college in the scholarship.
[8:03] Speaker 2: Then yeah, A nice time have a kid like that.
[8:06] Speaker 2: What do you want?
[8:07] Speaker 4: Now?
[8:08] Speaker 2: Start all over Againstlee? I tell us about last night.
[8:11] Speaker 3: I told him I just finished telling Detective Muggeton.
[8:13] Speaker 4: The tenant closer wasn't here.
[8:15] Speaker 6: I repeat the story very badly.
[8:17] Speaker 3: You telling I had a date with Irene Hall. I
[8:20] Speaker 3: looked to lead her at her apartment at eleven o'clock.
[8:23] Speaker 3: I knocked on the door. Irene screamed. I kicked in
[8:26] Speaker 3: the door. Ireen was dead. I called up.
[8:28] Speaker 2: What did you do last evening before you went to
[8:30] Speaker 2: miss Hall's place? Walked around?
[8:32] Speaker 4: You know?
[8:32] Speaker 2: No, I don't know.
[8:34] Speaker 3: Do you know Danny walked around? That's what I'm telling
[8:37] Speaker 3: you I did. I don't know what else to call
[8:39] Speaker 3: it in Cleveland, to be called walking around, walking.
[8:41] Speaker 2: Around doing what peddling? Tired do or what?
[8:43] Speaker 3: Look, mister, we don't peddle. We sell direct to cut

[8:47] Speaker 6: What time did you have dinner?
[8:50] Speaker 2: Early five o'clock? Then what did you do?
[8:52] Speaker 6: And don't tell us you were walking around?
[8:54] Speaker 3: I had dinner and I went next door and I
[8:56] Speaker 3: had a drink, one drink, and I went to another bar,
[8:59] Speaker 3: or had another or worry at nine o'clock.
[9:01] Speaker 2: How do I know?
[9:02] Speaker 6: You better know, mister Lehigh. Nine o'clock is when your

[9:10] Speaker 2: It's important.
[9:12] Speaker 3: I was in a bar, I was drinking what bar.
[9:14] Speaker 3: I was in a lot of bars, and broadly I
[9:16] Speaker 3: didn't look at their names. You heard that girl cry out, Yeah,
[9:20] Speaker 3: I heard. What do you think I'm lying to it?
[9:24] Speaker 3: You still think that? Don't look well as I got
[9:28] Speaker 3: a wife and a nice daughter.
[9:29] Speaker 6: You've told us, mister lee High, you got a scholarship
[9:32] Speaker 6: to come. Your family must be real proud.
[9:38] Speaker 2: And leave him. Leave the man who's tacting of a
[9:40] Speaker 2: city has been distilled into violence and death, the accusation
[9:43] Speaker 2: of murder. Leave him in a room whose walls have
[9:46] Speaker 2: been scarred with chalk protests the derision of the guilty
[9:50] Speaker 2: of the innocant, And leave him with the image of
[9:53] Speaker 2: a girl a city of promised him and whose death
[9:56] Speaker 2: was an end to the promise. Going out of the
[10:04] Speaker 2: Wentworth Theatrical agency on West forty seven, assist the night
[10:08] Speaker 2: particles of a girl's life that had spun her dying,
[10:11] Speaker 2: to assemble the shadows that have touched.
[10:13] Speaker 6: Her and passing. Maybe you could do that here in.
[10:16] Speaker 2: The office fashioned out of a brownstone hall bedroom, here
[10:19] Speaker 2: were the pictures of sparkling personalities clustered on yellowing walls,
[10:23] Speaker 2: and the messages of love and gratitude scrawled on them.
[10:26] Speaker 2: Glaury went Worth, the sweetest stagent of them all, glory,
[10:31] Speaker 2: all of the best, glory without whom.
[10:34] Speaker 6: And Laurie Preening, purring in the warm floor. That all my.

[10:51] Speaker 7: I try a convention in his town a largely to
[10:54] Speaker 7: a few specialties to raise money for funds. I spent

[11:18] Speaker 2: Where she came from, how she came to you, who
[11:21] Speaker 2: her friends were, things like that.
[11:22] Speaker 7: Well, where she came from I never asked. All I
[11:25] Speaker 7: know is one day, you know, maybe three years ago,

[11:31] Speaker 7: like she didn't know what the door right to come in.
[11:33] Speaker 7: I took her hand in mine. I told her it
[11:36] Speaker 7: was all right. Then she showed me the pictures she
[11:38] Speaker 7: carried under her arm. And well I signed her right office,
[11:42] Speaker 7: and not too long after, entertainment committees called me as
[11:46] Speaker 7: for her. Didn't care what else I gave him long
[11:48] Speaker 7: as I gave him.
[11:49] Speaker 4: Irene, that's all you know about her?
[11:51] Speaker 7: Well, I know I should never have booked her for
[11:53] Speaker 7: that patent medicine blow off. Then my Irene wouldn't be
[11:56] Speaker 7: dead at the hands of a medicine mess.
[11:58] Speaker 2: Nothing more.
[11:59] Speaker 7: Well, I know she didn't make the date I booked
[12:02] Speaker 7: for her last night, a little private affair dinner party.

[15:31] Speaker 2: ham So wait for it on the corner, kid, hold
[15:35] Speaker 2: it close. It can slip right through your fingers. For
[15:43] Speaker 2: the girl sprawled across her bed, the day offers only
[15:45] Speaker 2: her dying in the desolate room, the streakings of sunlight
[15:49] Speaker 2: and shadow that pattern her body, the wind that takes

[17:56] Speaker 2: fella who thought of Jessica Lana stay all the way
[17:59] Speaker 2: down from headquarters, and they swarmed and they photographed and

[18:19] Speaker 2: library and the sitters, the students scanning the required reading
[18:23] Speaker 2: oldsters with eyes closed, the warming suns and park the
[18:28] Speaker 2: car and to the drugstore. RAN's shirt is rummaging to
[18:33] Speaker 2: a table mark any item in this display. Ten just looking.
[18:36] Speaker 2: I'm waiting for I'm waiting for Danny Clover. What was
[18:39] Speaker 2: all that mystery over a phone? She's dead? He's talking
[18:43] Speaker 2: so last night? How can you stand there and tell
[18:46] Speaker 2: I asked you she's dead and I was with her
[18:48] Speaker 2: last night? Can I lock me up? We'll see. Well,
[18:51] Speaker 2: I told you I was with her working. She never
[18:53] Speaker 2: life for me to cook. I'm away. She likes me
[18:55] Speaker 2: tables where she worked last night, and matter if he
[18:57] Speaker 2: walks her No, no, no, no, no, edthing it. She
[19:00] Speaker 2: had a crazy notion. I saw she didn't like me
[19:02] Speaker 2: coming around for her, afraid somebody will recognized me. Or
[19:04] Speaker 2: was a waiter and river she goes out with a waiter.
[19:07] Speaker 2: She was entertaining last night. Yeah, doing an Ashieva bit
[19:10] Speaker 2: for the coup. Hey, her friend Irene was strangled too
[19:14] Speaker 2: last night too, And I waited a minute. Don't get
[19:17] Speaker 2: me to make now, Irene, I met her once or
[19:19] Speaker 2: twice or so. All right, you picked Barbara up last night?
[19:23] Speaker 2: What did you do about the same or like? What
[19:26] Speaker 2: went for a ride?
[19:27] Speaker 4: Parked along the river? Did you drink? She did?
[19:31] Speaker 2: She liked it. I brought along a bottle. She liked him, mister,
[19:35] Speaker 2: I was her date. I brought along a bottle.
[19:39] Speaker 4: You know something, I as good as killed it. Wow.
[19:42] Speaker 2: Well, she asked me to come up to her place
[19:44] Speaker 2: and finish the bottle. I didn't go.
[19:46] Speaker 6: She was loaded.
[19:46] Speaker 4: She needed a night to sleep it off.
[19:48] Speaker 2: If I hadn't gone home, she'd be alive right this minute.
[19:53] Speaker 4: You're not crazy about my story. I gotta go downtown. Yeah,
[19:59] Speaker 4: let's go.
[20:17] Speaker 2: Danny Cloba speaking the lieutenant Danny CLOVERA garden, Yes, I
[20:23] Speaker 2: pleasure you remember the garden from Texas. Come on down here, lieutenant.
[20:27] Speaker 2: You need help. When you close that door, smile, lieutenant,
[20:46] Speaker 2: like you're happy and you're going to beat happy. How
[20:49] Speaker 2: you got Tony Gordon man? Aren't you even going to
[20:52] Speaker 2: ask how I am today? How I feel? How I
[20:55] Speaker 2: slept last night? Whether I'm happy here amongst all my
[20:58] Speaker 2: extensive equipment. All how are you a happy?
[21:00] Speaker 4: Gordon?
[21:01] Speaker 2: Listen, Lieutenant, you run around the lot, you meet a
[21:05] Speaker 2: lot of people, all kinds of people. We've been working
[21:08] Speaker 2: together for a long time. What am I calling you
[21:12] Speaker 2: a lieutenant for?
[21:13] Speaker 4: Danny?
[21:13] Speaker 2: What do you want? Happens? A friend of mine's coming
[21:17] Speaker 2: in from out of town. I've been writing in what
[21:20] Speaker 2: a good time can be had in New York. I
[21:23] Speaker 2: gotta show them a good time, Dan Hand. You're trying
[21:27] Speaker 2: to bake me. Lieutenant. In the squadron, they tell me
[21:29] Speaker 2: you've got a little black book, Gordon. Just the other
[21:31] Speaker 2: day you're explaining the code beside the names. You're not
[21:34] Speaker 2: going to help me. You're gonna let me make a
[21:36] Speaker 2: joke out of myself in front of my friends. What
[21:38] Speaker 2: did you call me down here for? Gordon?
[21:42] Speaker 4: I'll show you.
[21:43] Speaker 2: Come here three microscopes. You want a peek or you
[21:50] Speaker 2: want me to handle it for you, Lieutenant? You tell
[21:53] Speaker 2: me on the stage of microscope one face powder spilled
[21:58] Speaker 2: on the floor in the apartment of Irene hall On.
[22:00] Speaker 2: Two face powder taken from the face of Irene Hall On.
[22:03] Speaker 2: Three face powder from the base of Barbara Landon. What
[22:07] Speaker 2: about them?
[22:10] Speaker 4: What about him?
[22:11] Speaker 2: The lieutenant says the lieutenant who gets around? I'll tell
[22:15] Speaker 2: you what about him? One in three match one and two.
[22:18] Speaker 2: Don't then the powder spilled out of that purse wasn't Irene's,
[22:22] Speaker 2: it was Barbara's. When then do you mind? If I
[22:28] Speaker 2: had something?
[22:30] Speaker 4: You don't mind?
[22:32] Speaker 2: I spilled powder on the floor and Irene Hall's apart
[22:35] Speaker 2: and didn't come out of Irene's purse. It was that
[22:37] Speaker 2: other girl, Barbara's. Thanks Guard, you helped a lot to
[22:41] Speaker 2: see what I mean. You've been around lots of girls.
[22:46] Speaker 2: What about my out of town friend Danny? Any boy?
[22:50] Speaker 4: He didn't help that much?
[23:04] Speaker 2: Okay? This well, God open up? Thanks south Wall.
[23:08] Speaker 4: If I want you in here, Uss, are you giving
[23:11] Speaker 4: me a cell mate?
[23:12] Speaker 2: Inside? Like I'm mister Lei, come on, come on, get up.
[23:19] Speaker 4: I want you to meet somebody.
[23:21] Speaker 2: This is a russ Field, mister Lehigh. What do I
[23:24] Speaker 2: have to meet him for? Who am I getting out
[23:27] Speaker 2: of here? You choose you, mister Lehigh, I'm not. You
[23:30] Speaker 2: two have got something in common. Both of you are
[23:32] Speaker 2: being held for a double murder, and of the same
[23:34] Speaker 2: two girls.
[23:35] Speaker 3: I'm here, mister Field. Let me shake your hand, brother,
[23:38] Speaker 3: and I'm glad to see you. And it really goes
[23:41] Speaker 3: to a crazy fast around here. Clothing they get used
[23:44] Speaker 3: to a kid because if one of us killed two girls,
[23:46] Speaker 3: it's gotta be you, because it wasn't me.
[23:47] Speaker 2: He's the killing cloth. I so I saw him on
[23:49] Speaker 2: out of that crazy stink. Hear what I said?
[23:53] Speaker 5: He said he saw him.
[23:54] Speaker 2: Didn't he tell me this before, mister LEI, I just
[23:56] Speaker 2: saw him coming out of Irene's apartment. I didn't seeing
[24:01] Speaker 2: I was lying.
[24:03] Speaker 4: Come on, Clover, let me get out of here.
[24:05] Speaker 2: You've got your boy.
[24:06] Speaker 3: Wait a minute, Wait a minute.
[24:07] Speaker 6: But you said there were two girls?
[24:09] Speaker 5: What two girl?
[24:10] Speaker 2: Irene Holland what two girl? Friend of Irene's name was
[24:13] Speaker 2: Barbara Lanbdham.
[24:14] Speaker 3: See see, I don't even.
[24:16] Speaker 2: Know how could I kill her anyhow?
[24:18] Speaker 5: I was in chain.
[24:19] Speaker 2: You were in jail at midnight last night. Irene was
[24:21] Speaker 2: killed about nine o'clock last night. Barbara Landon was killed
[24:24] Speaker 2: at eleven. Well, I didn't still eye.
[24:28] Speaker 1: This isn't it?
[24:30] Speaker 4: Okay? Yeah, old guy?
[24:33] Speaker 2: What am I saying?
[24:34] Speaker 5: A killer?
[24:34] Speaker 2: And I call him? Poor guy? Okay, Clover, I met
[24:37] Speaker 2: your boy. You've had your fun. Let's get out of
[24:39] Speaker 2: here us. Tell me again, how you're out with Barbara
[24:42] Speaker 2: last night?
[24:43] Speaker 4: What you did? Well?
[24:44] Speaker 2: Sure mat her park? She got loaded? I took her home.
[24:47] Speaker 2: You met her from work?
[24:48] Speaker 6: Uh?
[24:49] Speaker 4: Sure, just like I thought, no stops anywhere, just to park, shortstop.
[24:53] Speaker 4: She got loaded fast.
[24:55] Speaker 2: You gotta believe me. You gotta believe me.
[24:57] Speaker 3: But my wife, my kid going to cop But you
[25:00] Speaker 3: want a scholarship.
[25:01] Speaker 2: You don't think the father of a smart kid like that.
[25:04] Speaker 6: I didn't know what I didn't.
[25:06] Speaker 2: I didn't killer, but that what kind of killer are you?
[25:12] Speaker 4: Rush?
[25:14] Speaker 2: But Barbara Landon was at Irene's.
[25:16] Speaker 4: Apartment last night, mister Lehi, what do you want?
[25:22] Speaker 2: You tell me what happened last night? I had a
[25:25] Speaker 2: date with Irene Hall.
[25:27] Speaker 3: I was to meet her at her apartment at eleven o'clock.
[25:29] Speaker 2: I knocked on the door. Irene screamed. I kicked in
[25:32] Speaker 2: the door. I e was dead. I called the Belie.
[25:34] Speaker 2: I had a date with Irene wall. I was in
[25:36] Speaker 2: the Irene you heard screaming with Barbara. Our technical department
[25:40] Speaker 2: showed me proof that Barbara was there. God go home,
[25:51] Speaker 2: mister LEI.
[25:52] Speaker 4: Get back to Cleveland.
[25:54] Speaker 6: Oh, I did have a date with Go home?
[26:00] Speaker 4: H well am I trying to go home. Now, huh,
[26:16] Speaker 4: I don't met her.
[26:18] Speaker 2: We've got a few more things to talk about.
[26:21] Speaker 4: What you didn't like Barbara, did you?
[26:26] Speaker 6: No?
[26:28] Speaker 4: Now, she got drunk. She she always got drunk. She
[26:31] Speaker 4: was no fun. But Irene was different and nice girl.
[26:35] Speaker 4: Then why did you kill her? You didn't kill her
[26:39] Speaker 4: us didn't she like him? You didn't mean to kill her. No,
[26:49] Speaker 4: you killed her and you stayed with her.
[26:54] Speaker 2: I'll tell you. I tell you why I was talking
[26:58] Speaker 2: to her. I was trying to tell her I didn't
[27:00] Speaker 2: mean it. I was thinking there just to make myself
[27:02] Speaker 2: believe it didn't happen. And then when Barbara rang the bell,
[27:06] Speaker 2: you didn't meet her after work. And when Barbara came
[27:10] Speaker 2: and rang the bell, I opened the door and tried
[27:12] Speaker 2: to explain it to her. When I was talking, someone
[27:15] Speaker 2: else knocked on the door.
[27:16] Speaker 4: It must have been that little guy who was just here.
[27:19] Speaker 2: Barbara started the screen. I hit her, She fell down,
[27:21] Speaker 2: spilled everything all over the place, and lay eyes started
[27:23] Speaker 2: to kick in the door.
[27:24] Speaker 4: You dragged Barbara away?
[27:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I strangled her in my car and poured
[27:30] Speaker 2: booze all over her and took her home.
[27:33] Speaker 4: Then I went home and I went to sleep. That's
[27:35] Speaker 4: the way. It was just like I told you. I
[27:38] Speaker 4: swear it was just like that. No magian, Goanna let
[27:45] Speaker 4: me out of you, Now let me out.
[28:07] Speaker 2: It's the street of a hunter, this Broadway, and the
[28:11] Speaker 2: smileless dropped at the tip of a hat, and the
[28:14] Speaker 2: lights are flung from windows, out of doorways, and you
[28:17] Speaker 2: walk a pavement spangled the thousand colors. But between the lights,
[28:22] Speaker 2: that's where darkness is. It's Broadway, the gaudius, the most violent,
[28:31] Speaker 2: the lonesomest.
[28:33] Speaker 6: Mile in the world.
[28:35] Speaker 2: Broadway, My Beat, Broadways, My Beat stars Larry Thor as
[28:56] Speaker 2: Detective Danny Clover, with Charles Calvert Asked to Taglia and
[28:59] Speaker 2: Jack Pruscian as Mugaban. The program was produced and directed
[29:03] Speaker 2: by Elliott Lewis, with musical score composed and conducted by
[29:06] Speaker 2: Alexander Courage and Tonight's story Hiefbach was heard as rust
[29:10] Speaker 2: Field and Herb Butterfield as myrat Leehide. Featured in the
[29:14] Speaker 2: cast were Martha Wentworth, ed Max and Junius Matthews. This
[29:23] Speaker 2: is only a rumor, but they say the Secretary of
[29:26] Speaker 2: the Treasury recently visited Jack Benny's underground Fault to reassure
[29:30] Speaker 2: himself that there's a healthy cash reserve in case the
[29:33] Speaker 2: government runs short.
[29:35] Speaker 4: This much as.
[29:35] Speaker 2: Certain America's in no danger of running short of lasts,
[29:38] Speaker 2: just as long as Jack Benny Time keeps rolling along.
[29:41] Speaker 2: Sunday Nights on CBS Radio, Bill Anders Speaking and Remember
[29:51] Speaker 2: my friend Hermo Live and Joy Sundays on the CBS
[29:54] Speaker 2: Radio Network.
[30:48] Speaker 1: Welcome back, Myron Lahai. Maybe the most scared we've heard
[30:54] Speaker 1: a suspect on Broadways My Beat, although I don't know
[30:58] Speaker 1: whether it was for the fact of finding himself charged
[31:03] Speaker 1: with murder, which I'm kind of lean towards, or just
[31:06] Speaker 1: not wanting to be found out back in Cleveland. You know,
[31:11] Speaker 1: if they ever did do an episode where a recurring
[31:15] Speaker 1: character on Broadways My Beat was the murderer, you know,
[31:20] Speaker 1: it would be Gordon. And you have to feel that
[31:23] Speaker 1: Danny probably never felt so good about turning anyone down.
[31:28] Speaker 1: I mean, you have to admire, in a way, the
[31:33] Speaker 1: total lack of self awareness of Gordon asking for a favor.
[31:38] Speaker 1: It's like, come on, Danny, I'm being extra condescending this
[31:42] Speaker 1: week just for you help a guy out. Now we
[31:47] Speaker 1: turn to listener comments and feedback, and we start with Mary, who,
[31:51] Speaker 1: along with her donation rights, thank you for the continued
[31:54] Speaker 1: great work. And then we turn to Spotify, where we
[31:58] Speaker 1: have a couple of comments re guarding the episode the
[32:01] Speaker 1: John Elgin murder case, and a random Spotify user riots, wow,
[32:08] Speaker 1: I would have put twenty dollars on James Rnass playing
[32:12] Speaker 1: ray Ford, but I'm not a gambling man. Well, James
[32:16] Speaker 1: Arness was one of those actors who, as far as
[32:19] Speaker 1: we know, didn't do very much radio. There is, interestingly
[32:24] Speaker 1: enough a record at the Radio Gold Index indicating that
[32:30] Speaker 1: he recorded the pilot for a series called Bag Jim McLain,
[32:37] Speaker 1: which was based on a movie which had starred John
[32:42] Speaker 1: Wayne in the same role, with McClane being an investigator
[32:47] Speaker 1: for the House on American Activities Committee. The pilot never aired,
[32:52] Speaker 1: and it's not one of those that are in circulation
[32:55] Speaker 1: as far as I know. And of course Arnas would
[32:58] Speaker 1: go on to bigger things. The role of a lifetime
[33:02] Speaker 1: playing Matt Dillon on television Mechanics sixty six rides good
[33:06] Speaker 1: catch by the doctor. I think Denny could have used
[33:10] Speaker 1: a prescription for volume. He was wound a bit too tight.
[33:14] Speaker 1: Thanks for the comment, and now it's time to thank

[33:53] Speaker 1: for dragnetwere well.
[33:55] Speaker 10: Like I said, I was through at the Elis. I
[33:57] Speaker 10: stopped by the place and had a couple of beers for.
[34:00] Speaker 3: Anything else, a few nicolas.
[34:01] Speaker 10: They'd pay me lucky to get enough to eat.
[34:03] Speaker 4: The way things are going, Yeah, that's pretty rough. I
[34:05] Speaker 4: know what the pitcher got Dave.
[34:07] Speaker 10: While I was sitting there having a beer in a
[34:08] Speaker 10: couple of those new faces were sitting next to me,
[34:10] Speaker 10: So I put my ear out tried to pick up
[34:12] Speaker 10: some of the tall Yeah. I couldn't get all of it,
[34:14] Speaker 10: but I did get enough to make out there's gonna
[34:16] Speaker 10: be a big game tonight. From what I could get,
[34:18] Speaker 10: there's gonna be a lot of scratch floating.
[34:19] Speaker 4: Now you hear what's gonna be there?
[34:21] Speaker 2: Now?
[34:21] Speaker 3: I had to play it careful, you know, it couldn't
[34:23] Speaker 3: be too nosy.
[34:23] Speaker 10: Yeah, sure, I uh said, and had another beer in
[34:26] Speaker 10: one of this new monks. Heard the other guy call
[34:28] Speaker 10: him Mike. I think he has the bartender for change
[34:30] Speaker 10: to make a phone call. He got the change, went
[34:32] Speaker 10: over the wall phone. I got up and drifted over
[34:34] Speaker 10: that way and made out like I was watching the
[34:36] Speaker 10: shuffle board.
[34:37] Speaker 6: I caught some of the tall Now what was that?
[34:40] Speaker 10: Well, he was talking about some big game to night.
[34:42] Speaker 10: I heard him say the guy on the other end
[34:43] Speaker 10: not to show up before.
[34:44] Speaker 4: Eleven thirty could get an address.
[34:46] Speaker 10: Yeah, he said he'd be back of an empty store
[34:49] Speaker 10: building down on Gibbons Avenue.
[34:50] Speaker 6: And you get the number nine one two two.
[34:53] Speaker 4: What was that again? Nine? Yeah, Gibbons.
[34:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty sure. As soon as I got out
[34:58] Speaker 2: of the place, I wrote.
[34:59] Speaker 10: It down withamen, I got s let's see, yeah, nine
[35:04] Speaker 10: one two two Gibbons's.
[35:05] Speaker 2: Now, this fellow that made the phone call, you say
[35:07] Speaker 2: his name was Mike, is it right?
[35:09] Speaker 10: Yeah, that's what I heard his partner call him.
[35:11] Speaker 4: He's kind of a.
[35:12] Speaker 10: Short guy of thirty five, forty six on the fat side, black.
[35:15] Speaker 4: Hair, Mike Filmer, No, yeah, we've had Anye on him.
