[8:01] Speaker 5: him in the meanwhile, I wish you commit and give
[8:03] Speaker 5: me a report. Yes, this is going to be a
[8:06] Speaker 5: tough enough to crack at to haunting half a million
[8:09] Speaker 5: four gasoline coupons. Bud counterfeiting or offering gasoline coupons just
[8:13] Speaker 5: as bad now as counterfeiting money.
[8:15] Speaker 3: That's worse. I have a hunt of This is even
[8:19] Speaker 3: more serious than it appears on the surface.
[8:21] Speaker 5: How do you mean I'm afraid that this gas is
[8:24] Speaker 5: being obtained by counterfeit coupons to be used to lead
[8:27] Speaker 5: you animy submarines.
[8:30] Speaker 8: Do you think it goes that deep?
[8:35] Speaker 5: Hard and turning those one hundred counterfeit gasoline coupons I
[8:38] Speaker 5: gave you to analyze well, all our coupons planted on
[8:42] Speaker 5: the same type of paper. Yes, with you're hiding they
[8:44] Speaker 5: were printed on Wilson's paper made with coopermonium hydroxide instead
[8:48] Speaker 5: of the zook kloride.
[8:49] Speaker 3: I'm seeing how many concerns manufacture that certain type of paper.
[8:53] Speaker 3: The counterfeits of your sports or two in the South,
[8:56] Speaker 3: one of the North, and the actual paper company out.
[8:58] Speaker 5: With check every one of these companies with the hard
[9:00] Speaker 5: I want the names and addresses of all shipments of
[9:02] Speaker 5: any size made during the past.
[9:04] Speaker 3: Year of that type of paper. Yes, mister Maxter's waiting
[9:10] Speaker 3: outside ha him committ him. Yes, it was very serious. Yes,
[9:19] Speaker 3: but it does.
[9:24] Speaker 7: Mister Haney.
[9:25] Speaker 8: I took the liberty of bringing this sixty along with me.
[9:27] Speaker 5: God you, mister, what do you mean, mister handing a
[9:31] Speaker 5: CONVID coupons they gave you to analyze?
[9:33] Speaker 3: Were they all printed on the same counterfeiting plate.
[9:35] Speaker 6: They were into harding.
[9:37] Speaker 3: Can you tell me about the kind of plate the
[9:39] Speaker 3: conifeitor used. Well, the printing was probably done on a
[9:42] Speaker 3: vertical press paper hunting.
[9:43] Speaker 12: I took the liberty of passing the competented gasoline coupons
[9:47] Speaker 12: on the mister pix people in Canaalosy.
[9:49] Speaker 8: He has some very interesting reports.
[9:52] Speaker 3: What is your ink analysis of these count offit gasoline coupons, will.
[9:55] Speaker 12: Mister Hani and now it's this shows the increased compounds
[9:58] Speaker 12: of hydotolic solutions of gallery Cantannic iron salts with the
[10:01] Speaker 12: usual sugar and gun Maravic persons applying a reagent of
[10:05] Speaker 12: three percent of selic acid neither counterfeit. His ink disappears
[10:09] Speaker 12: well negos to any ink of the genuine couponds with
[10:12] Speaker 12: unated How many concerns manufacture a certain type of ink?
[10:17] Speaker 12: Three one of the very small ones themselves almost entirely
[10:20] Speaker 12: in northern New England.
[10:22] Speaker 5: Topically cover all of the ink manufacturers who use this
[10:25] Speaker 5: compound the hydrochloric pollution of Gallican panic iron salt in
[10:27] Speaker 5: the ranks and take all their shipments over the past
[10:30] Speaker 5: nine months. Give me the address of every shipment that
[10:32] Speaker 5: they've made. Yes, party thinking, get me commander Army Base Airfields.
[10:47] Speaker 5: But fact to see Kate and meet me at eleven
[10:48] Speaker 5: to night at the base airfields. Yes, goals for a
[10:52] Speaker 5: warm climate or coals at.
[10:53] Speaker 3: The party, hot.
[11:05] Speaker 7: Wells Jahanti.
[11:06] Speaker 3: Now that the rush is over, someone, where.
[11:09] Speaker 5: Are we flying to the border Everglades, we the land
[11:13] Speaker 5: of Miami and proceeds south like a What did you
[11:16] Speaker 5: find out for those statistical reports? A lot of patistical
[11:19] Speaker 5: department is reported, but that a number of shipments of
[11:22] Speaker 5: gasoline have been made by six different companies to a
[11:25] Speaker 5: certain gasoline launch supply station along the main road in
[11:28] Speaker 5: the Everglade. We also found out at a certain ship
[11:31] Speaker 5: of the Willison's paper was also be into this gasoline station.
[11:35] Speaker 5: You probably recall the Fort's coupons were printed.
[11:38] Speaker 3: On Willisdon paper.
[11:39] Speaker 5: Yes, and also eight similar to that used on the
[11:42] Speaker 5: counter offitted coupons was also tipped.
[11:44] Speaker 3: To this gasoline station.
[11:45] Speaker 5: Hey, that's hot.
[11:47] Speaker 3: Exactly what kind of a filling station is it? The
[11:49] Speaker 3: JAHRTI are you familiar with the Everglades?
[11:51] Speaker 6: Wet Oh, No, I'm not.
[11:53] Speaker 3: There was one main road which has been built up
[11:55] Speaker 3: a artificial ground and piling one for nearly one.
[11:57] Speaker 5: Hundred and twenty miles acrowse of peninsula goes over about
[12:00] Speaker 5: forty different little islands.
[12:03] Speaker 3: On a few of these are gasoline stations. This gasoline
[12:06] Speaker 3: station in question is just about one hundred feet.
[12:08] Speaker 5: Off the main road services automobiles and also fishing boats, Yes,
[12:14] Speaker 5: but how can.
[12:14] Speaker 3: A service in the enemy submarine? People are driving over
[12:17] Speaker 3: that world constantly.
[12:18] Speaker 6: Mu's see some neighbors down there.
[12:20] Speaker 3: That's the catch. That's what you and I've got to
[12:22] Speaker 3: find out. But there anything wrong is going on down there.
[12:26] Speaker 3: A mighty clever device is being used.
[12:28] Speaker 6: What's your plans?
[12:30] Speaker 5: Well, in the morning, the land of Miami, we'll get
[12:31] Speaker 5: an oil fuck fill it full of gasoline and find
[12:34] Speaker 5: out when the delivery is supposed to be made in
[12:36] Speaker 5: this gasoline station. Then you and I will make the delivery.
[13:01] Speaker 3: Now back to David Harding. I'm the counters guy.
[13:15] Speaker 11: I've written in things more comfortable than this gasoline costs
[13:19] Speaker 11: good for In addition, but that light ahead eye think
[13:24] Speaker 11: that's where we go off.
[13:27] Speaker 5: You know, it's strange if they insisted we delivered the
[13:29] Speaker 5: gasoline knife as in the whole sentence, amising or getting
[13:33] Speaker 5: just got to wait to see what they've wanted.
[13:37] Speaker 3: Here where we kind of like lot of a primitive
[13:47] Speaker 3: looking claim that you can see others so.
[13:51] Speaker 5: Good, I take it easy and comes a man out
[13:53] Speaker 5: of that shack.
[13:55] Speaker 3: You're from the NATO oil. Finally in Miami, a trust
[13:58] Speaker 3: buddy drive out on the little dock. They get flocks
[14:03] Speaker 3: and yours that's been out there. Fight go ahead, Okay,
[14:07] Speaker 3: we go through. It will be off here and we'll
[14:09] Speaker 3: not George.
[14:25] Speaker 8: You make quick time?
[14:26] Speaker 3: Yeah, wept he always Miami. Sure it's the dog god. Yeah,
[14:31] Speaker 3: I use my fall right. What do we put this guy?
[14:38] Speaker 3: You got a tank under the dock?
[14:40] Speaker 6: That that I find the elected.
[14:41] Speaker 3: Okay, I need to ring now we're gonna show a
[14:45] Speaker 3: cat at your hands.
[14:48] Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, man, that all one up, one of a hole.
[14:56] Speaker 3: Okay, let the guys come fall if you are oh
[15:03] Speaker 3: into the thing to tell you I want to do list. Sure,
[15:07] Speaker 3: not supposed to touch it while I'm on duty, but.
[15:09] Speaker 5: I guess the little one wouldn't hid man in the
[15:12] Speaker 5: bottle have become thanks like I only carried two bottles,
[15:18] Speaker 5: one per foe.
[15:19] Speaker 3: One for myself. I'll make a little net out of mine.
[15:24] Speaker 5: A day.
[15:25] Speaker 3: Up is the you guys, no boy one month fool
[15:30] Speaker 3: I am. What you do will drop your bottom and more.
[15:33] Speaker 5: It's like a hit on the top of the iron
[15:34] Speaker 5: standing and bucket. Yare and have to have a the
[15:37] Speaker 5: finer tell the bottle and yeah, I do understand the
[15:43] Speaker 5: living down here. Nobody for five mins on.
[15:47] Speaker 3: Either side of you. Yeah, one pad alligated. Got one
[15:57] Speaker 3: of the navy.
[16:04] Speaker 5: Harding calling JA farm Beach, Florida. You get contact hardly
[16:09] Speaker 5: calling j a Palm Beach. Not if on counters fires
[16:13] Speaker 5: on Florida East and West Coast to investigate all ocean
[16:17] Speaker 5: going tugs check the last five or six feet.
[16:19] Speaker 3: Of their rope harbors.
[16:20] Speaker 7: I broke a bottle of.
[16:21] Speaker 5: Nitric acid on I am sanch in which boardmarks of
[16:24] Speaker 5: a rope harbor having been tied to it.
[16:26] Speaker 3: This acid will burn hemp fibers of harbor. Not if
[16:29] Speaker 3: I immediately if any tug having harbor burned that.
[16:31] Speaker 5: In heaporting a hooding. Miami counters by the headquarters. I
[16:41] Speaker 5: vote Jana.
[16:41] Speaker 8: Louise out of gate City and there showing.
[16:44] Speaker 5: ASID contact me immediately listens that tug leaves and returns
[16:48] Speaker 5: to a home birth. Want exact times of leaving in returns.
[16:56] Speaker 4: Jay counters by reporting a hoodie bout ten.
[17:00] Speaker 8: Louise left birth seven.
[17:01] Speaker 6: Thirty five last night, returned five thirty five this morning.
[17:06] Speaker 8: Average speight went up.
[17:07] Speaker 4: Toy is fourteen miles at all.
[17:10] Speaker 5: All right, Bob, this is the information we've been waiting for. Now,
[17:14] Speaker 5: let's look at this chart of the west coast of Florida.
[17:16] Speaker 5: To a little figuring, the end of Louis's homeport is
[17:20] Speaker 5: twenty three miles from this gasoleene station in question. She
[17:23] Speaker 5: cruises at fourteen miles an hour. That'd take her one
[17:26] Speaker 5: hour and forty five minutes to get from her home
[17:28] Speaker 5: to the gasoleen station. Correct, one hour and forty five
[17:30] Speaker 5: minutes for a return from the Gatholeen station back to
[17:33] Speaker 5: her home bir the entire time being three hours and
[17:36] Speaker 5: a half.
[17:36] Speaker 3: But she was going ten hours. That leaves six and
[17:38] Speaker 3: a half hours of her time to be accounted.
[17:40] Speaker 5: For it right, six and one and a half hours. Now,
[17:44] Speaker 5: Suppose she hook onto a ten thousand gallum barge at
[17:47] Speaker 5: the gasoleene station in question and tote it up the
[17:49] Speaker 5: sea to meet a submarine to take two hours download
[17:53] Speaker 5: the ten thousand gallums. After she met this up, which
[17:55] Speaker 5: leads two and a half hours for it tow the
[17:57] Speaker 5: loaded barge out and.
[17:58] Speaker 8: The emptyople arched back.
[17:59] Speaker 6: Right now.
[18:01] Speaker 3: I checked with the Navy.
[18:02] Speaker 5: In a tug which makes fourteen miles an hour by itself,
[18:05] Speaker 5: it slowed to twelve miles an hour when she's towing
[18:07] Speaker 5: an empty bar. When she's throwing a loaded bar to
[18:11] Speaker 5: ten thousand gallons, she'd be slow to eight miles an hour.
[18:14] Speaker 5: Her average is therefore be ten miles an hour two
[18:18] Speaker 5: and one half hour phillicot of four. That means in
[18:21] Speaker 5: two and one half hours the sub could cover twenty
[18:23] Speaker 5: five miles, So she'd be meeting a sub twelve and
[18:28] Speaker 5: one half miles off of southern Florida coat. That's beautiful deduction,
[18:31] Speaker 5: mister Harding, good reasoning, But where does it get its
[18:34] Speaker 5: What makes you think she did pick up a ten thousand.
[18:36] Speaker 6: Gallons BArch at the gasoline fish in questioned.
[18:39] Speaker 3: Where was the BArch? But I haven't been entirely honest
[18:43] Speaker 3: with you. I kind of suspected it, did you know what?
[18:45] Speaker 5: Button the night when I put the nozzle of the
[18:47] Speaker 5: gasoleene hose into that pipe, the pipe was just flushed
[18:51] Speaker 5: with the ducks.
[18:52] Speaker 6: Oh, I didn't.
[18:53] Speaker 5: Well, it took us forty five minutes to put the
[18:56] Speaker 5: gas in. When I took the nozzle out of the pipe,
[18:59] Speaker 5: the pipe was four inches lower than the.
[19:02] Speaker 3: Level of the dock.
[19:03] Speaker 6: Oh.
[19:06] Speaker 5: Then the tank under the dock with a floating tank
[19:08] Speaker 5: that was up and down with the time The dock
[19:11] Speaker 5: was really a disguised oil barge with just the shell
[19:14] Speaker 5: of a dock over the camouflage exactly and before morning
[19:17] Speaker 5: that brings the empty barge back and it's shoved under
[19:20] Speaker 5: the dock again.
[19:21] Speaker 3: What's our next move?
[19:23] Speaker 5: Tap up a signal through the commers by headquarters Washington,
[19:25] Speaker 5: have the contact relay to our field testing lavatory and
[19:28] Speaker 5: get me tex Walker texas an extport chemist on gasoline
[19:31] Speaker 5: and all fuel oil. The next time a submarine refueled
[19:34] Speaker 5: with that gasoline, they're going to have a surprise coming
[19:37] Speaker 5: to them.
[19:47] Speaker 3: Let us a shop off motor sports.
[19:51] Speaker 7: Speed ahead, I said, first straight ahead?
[19:55] Speaker 3: Why sorry?
[19:55] Speaker 8: The motor so you're having formed of the motives or
[19:59] Speaker 8: Cometa has stopped entirely.
[20:01] Speaker 7: You started taking it apart.
[20:02] Speaker 5: The hole inside the spear unders if they were acid
[20:05] Speaker 5: in the gatine that cannot beat.
[20:07] Speaker 7: How long will it take the repair wait sor it's
[20:09] Speaker 7: beyond repair? And the other more is giving his troubles
[20:12] Speaker 7: thousand tears, don't.
[20:14] Speaker 6: What to do?
[20:15] Speaker 7: Who turn not a light?
[20:16] Speaker 12: Switch out the life You're food Sophia having the same tublet,
[20:19] Speaker 12: but a gatherine generators switch the car to the battery.
[20:22] Speaker 8: You must repair them we'll get the mercy of the Americans.
[20:25] Speaker 3: Are you sure it's troubled in the gasoline?
[20:27] Speaker 6: Yes.
[20:27] Speaker 12: The Carbaret and Phillis and the Gatherine lines have always
[20:31] Speaker 12: been eaten away by.
[20:31] Speaker 13: Atis to Maluda, or if I hear him at once

[23:17] Speaker 7: I don't the most speakable of it. What's the matter
[23:19] Speaker 7: with done of the poor.
[23:20] Speaker 6: Paris We who have you been letting put acids?

[23:37] Speaker 5: the last three submarines you refuel, that motors has spoiled
[23:40] Speaker 5: the helpless, You ruined them. I have an already here
[23:44] Speaker 5: from Heima himself. My own life isn't worth two cents.
[23:48] Speaker 5: I have failed because of you stupid picks. Now you
[23:53] Speaker 5: are going to pay for your chilly products.
[23:56] Speaker 7: Book.
[23:57] Speaker 6: Don't shoot You'll know how they just stopped.
[24:00] Speaker 7: Oh Sam, I don't call me.
[24:10] Speaker 6: He was Tony.

[24:14] Speaker 7: Stop that fighting.
[24:15] Speaker 5: She's a good look at Tony.
[24:18] Speaker 7: He's dead.
[24:19] Speaker 14: Take a good look at a cops, because that is
[24:22] Speaker 14: what you are going to feed you right now. I pa,
[24:31] Speaker 14: I don't know that I have ever done anything.
[24:34] Speaker 6: It is given me more pleasure.
[24:38] Speaker 3: Don't you get both?
[24:40] Speaker 5: Please pell saw its food for alligators to shocks.
[24:49] Speaker 6: Won't they are going to get you.
[24:59] Speaker 3: I wouldn't.
[25:02] Speaker 5: And I wouldn't reach for that gun on the table.
[25:03] Speaker 5: Tachment for you hiding see the United States counter Prize.
[25:08] Speaker 5: If you make one move, you won't have to worry
[25:10] Speaker 5: about the get STOPO getting you.
[25:13] Speaker 3: You'll be just as dead as all two countrymen of yours.
[25:15] Speaker 3: You get killed.
[25:16] Speaker 6: Don't shoot, I won't move.
[25:19] Speaker 3: But the hands up in the air treatment a little higher.
[25:23] Speaker 3: That's as high as you can get them. So you
[25:25] Speaker 3: are the one who was putting access to catheline. I
[25:28] Speaker 3: was just one teachment, one of five thousand counter prize
[25:32] Speaker 3: taking every move you're get stoppo, mate.
[25:34] Speaker 6: Don't shoot.
[25:36] Speaker 3: I do exactly what you say.
[25:38] Speaker 7: You just want me to move so you can kill
[25:40] Speaker 7: me right now.
[25:41] Speaker 14: But I am not going to get through the chance.
[25:45] Speaker 3: I do exactly what you.
[25:49] Speaker 5: All right. Tachment starts for the door, but be careful
[25:53] Speaker 5: that you're two countrymen. Don't trip you again.
[26:13] Speaker 3: Next week David Harding and concert fires back again at
[26:17] Speaker 3: the same time. I'm hond us her brands. Heis a date.
[26:24] Speaker 3: Let's meet the case of the murdered commers, brother versus
[26:28] Speaker 3: brother death in the laboratory that the King delights. Look
[26:34] Speaker 3: through the strain makeup the speaker of the parted hair.
[26:39] Speaker 3: Next week, looking counterfire.
[26:52] Speaker 15: Welcome back a solid case. Once again.
[26:56] Speaker 1: David Harding makes sound deductions out a situation such as
[27:02] Speaker 1: this not being a domestic counterfeiting operation, and then leverages
[27:09] Speaker 1: his own intellect plus the pure size of his operation,
[27:14] Speaker 1: in order to bridge victorious. I think everything is very
[27:19] Speaker 1: well reasoned out here. Now there are a few points
[27:22] Speaker 1: you could nitpick, or you might wonder about. What I
[27:26] Speaker 1: was curious about was the whole bit at the beginning
[27:31] Speaker 1: about giving out weather conditions being prohibited. It kind of
[27:37] Speaker 1: is a bit of an overstatement, but it was restricted.
[27:41] Speaker 1: The Office of Censorship wrote, a few drops of brain
[27:45] Speaker 1: at Alpasso, high winds in Kansas City and a snowfall
[27:50] Speaker 1: in Detroit will indicate to enemy ships which part of
[27:54] Speaker 1: the coast will have rough weather or fog A day
[27:57] Speaker 1: or two later, and this information comes from April White's
[28:04] Speaker 1: really solid article in Popular Science. On September nineteenth of
[28:10] Speaker 1: last year, even Eleanor Roosevelt, the First Lady, got a
[28:16] Speaker 1: letter from the Office of Censorship rebuking her for complaining
[28:21] Speaker 1: about the weather in her column. Now, this created some
[28:26] Speaker 1: real problems. There were some crops that were destroyed because
[28:32] Speaker 1: of a lack of access to information, and there were
[28:37] Speaker 1: some areas that were found unprepared for major storm, including
[28:44] Speaker 1: a tornado in Tennessee and a hurricane in the Gulf
[28:50] Speaker 1: region of the South. The censorship rules were rightly relaxed
[28:58] Speaker 1: in a non teen forty three in the fall of
[29:02] Speaker 1: nineteen forty three, because even though the war wasn't over,
[29:08] Speaker 1: the essential conclusion was that the benefits of these restrictions
[29:16] Speaker 1: were far outweighed by all of the people who and
[29:22] Speaker 1: industries that were put in a disadvantage by the lack
[29:26] Speaker 1: of weather reporting. And I think by nineteen forty three
[29:31] Speaker 1: it was pretty clear that the Axis weren't ready anytime
[29:37] Speaker 1: in the near future to open another front on the
[29:41] Speaker 1: continental United States. So some of these restrictions which were
[29:47] Speaker 1: in place in countries in Europe, did not make a
[29:52] Speaker 1: whole lot of sense in the United States. Now, in
[29:55] Speaker 1: the context of the episode, it establishes the DA tone,
[30:01] Speaker 1: But if you think about it a little, there's a
[30:04] Speaker 1: bit of silicon seat to it, because the idea is
[30:10] Speaker 1: that the announcer cannot say where exactly this is happening
[30:16] Speaker 1: because it might be overheard by an Axis spy.
[30:22] Speaker 15: But as I was listening to it, I said, this
[30:25] Speaker 15: sounds a lot like Florida.
[30:28] Speaker 1: If you're going to avoid saying where this is to
[30:33] Speaker 1: in theory, protect the information from the Axis, it seems
[30:39] Speaker 1: like you shouldn't make it so obvious it's Florida. And
[30:42] Speaker 1: then David Harding goes ahead and says specifically that is Florida.
[30:48] Speaker 1: So can the Nazis spies only hear the announcer nothing else.
[30:55] Speaker 1: I'm a little bit unclear on the logic of this.
[30:58] Speaker 1: It's an interesting aspect of World War two history, and
[31:01] Speaker 1: it always seems like I'm learning something I didn't know
[31:05] Speaker 1: about that era before. It's just kind of an odd
[31:08] Speaker 1: way to takes it as in the context of a
[31:12] Speaker 1: fictional radio show. Also, the sub would not likely be
[31:20] Speaker 1: sending requests for assistance to Himmler. Himler had a very
[31:26] Speaker 1: large portfolio in the Nazi government, but kind of handling
[31:31] Speaker 1: these submarine operations wasn't.
[31:33] Speaker 15: Really part of it.
[31:34] Speaker 1: But what Himmler was already in nineteen forty two was
[31:41] Speaker 1: a malevolent figure who had perpetrated monstrous evil on the
[31:48] Speaker 1: human race. Already he was central to the establishment of
[31:55] Speaker 1: the Secret Police and the construction of the first concentration camps.
[32:02] Speaker 1: He was also one of the principal architects responsible for
[32:07] Speaker 1: the Holocaust. Although in nineteen forty two the full scale
[32:13] Speaker 1: of his evil was not known by the American public,
[32:19] Speaker 1: they already knew enough to know that you could signal
[32:24] Speaker 1: ruthless evil by having the bad guys of your peace
[32:32] Speaker 1: report to Himmler. All right, well, now it's time to
