[0:35] Speaker 1: This is your host, Adam Graham. In a moment, we're

[1:00] Speaker 1: of four dollars or more per month. Now, I think
[1:03] Speaker 1: one of the most natural things when you think about
[1:07] Speaker 1: and Sint Price playing The Saint is to associate it
[1:11] Speaker 1: to NBC in nineteen fifty and nineteen fifty one, and
[1:16] Speaker 1: really that's where the bulk of the recordings come from.
[1:20] Speaker 1: But Vincent Price's time playing Simon Templar actually began back
[1:25] Speaker 1: in nineteen forty seven over Canux Radio in Los Angeles.
[1:30] Speaker 1: Say the role for fifty one weeks, of which we
[1:33] Speaker 1: only have one episode available so here from October fifteenth,
[1:39] Speaker 1: nineteen forty seven is a case that I'm not going
[1:44] Speaker 1: to refer to by the more commonly known fan name,
[1:49] Speaker 1: but I'm going to use an existing alternate title. Here
[1:53] Speaker 1: is mister important.
[2:00] Speaker 2: Oh how it.
[2:12] Speaker 3: Thick and easy? Never easy?
[2:14] Speaker 2: It's easy to let trim with tin.
[2:20] Speaker 4: Then you're using your head to get ahead. When you
[2:23] Speaker 4: groom your hair with trim hair sonic or trim groomed
[2:26] Speaker 4: hair in a handsome, natural way sets you apart as
[2:29] Speaker 4: a man.
[2:30] Speaker 3: Who's going places.
[2:31] Speaker 4: And trim does more than merely groom your hair.
[2:34] Speaker 5: If the first and only hair.
[2:35] Speaker 4: Conic made with pure virgin olive oil, nature's finest hair
[2:39] Speaker 4: and scalp conditioner, So trim conditions your scalp as it
[2:43] Speaker 4: grooms your hair. Try this amazing new pepsidic conduct. Yes,
[2:48] Speaker 4: try trim hair sonics. The Saints, based on characters created
[3:10] Speaker 4: by Leslie Chakra and as the millions from books, magazines
[3:14] Speaker 4: and motion pictures, the robin Hood of modern crime now
[3:17] Speaker 4: comes to radio darling Hollywood Britain and telling actor.
[3:21] Speaker 3: Vincent Price as the Saints.
[3:26] Speaker 6: Come in.
[3:28] Speaker 3: Oh all it's you again, Yes, me again sayin' and

[3:34] Speaker 3: you what the answer would be, MCGD. I like this town.
[3:36] Speaker 3: I'm going to stick around a few more days and
[3:38] Speaker 3: finish up my business here, like I said, saying it
[3:41] Speaker 3: ain't your business, and the forces up the price to
[3:44] Speaker 3: five grand for you to skip five grand, Saint, just
[3:47] Speaker 3: to leave Donald forget you've ever been here. That's not
[3:49] Speaker 3: my price. My god, what do you want? Go make
[3:52] Speaker 3: an office? I want the man who killed John Daniels
[3:55] Speaker 3: Daniels STRACIY Department. God, Yes, what do you guy to
[3:59] Speaker 3: do with him? He is a friend of mine. I
[4:01] Speaker 3: want the boy or cut him down the gun and
[4:04] Speaker 3: he's one boy you ain't gonna get. Saint. Oh, oh,
[4:07] Speaker 3: the big shot did it himself. A big shot did
[4:10] Speaker 3: it himself. And then I'll settle for him. He's settling
[4:13] Speaker 3: your grave. First, you're gonna have to make an awful
[4:15] Speaker 3: lot of first down step across that goal line missed template. Oh,
[4:19] Speaker 3: I've got some tick plays. I expect to use detection
[4:23] Speaker 3: against power. It sometimes works, My guy, I always said
[4:27] Speaker 3: you were a smart fans. I guess I heard wrong.
[4:30] Speaker 3: He ain't gone tough tough enough. And just wait, you
[4:33] Speaker 3: see what you gotta go through before you even get
[4:35] Speaker 3: within hard calling distance of the big shots. Saint. Well,
[4:38] Speaker 3: you see, and to top it up, there ain't put
[4:40] Speaker 3: two guys in this County. But know who he is?
[4:42] Speaker 3: Who are the two mcgun goodbody Saint Martinian Shaw the
[4:47] Speaker 3: best undertakers? And who are the two guys who know
[4:49] Speaker 3: who the big shot is? Mcgarrett. I'll come no closer
[4:52] Speaker 3: to Saint. This gun spits poison. What poison? Now? That
[4:55] Speaker 3: gun looks good on you, mcgartt it thurt of rounds

[5:11] Speaker 3: piece of lethal hardware to my collection, the guard. And
[5:14] Speaker 3: if you don't start the sort of conversation piece I
[5:16] Speaker 3: want to hear, you go into my collection too. I
[5:19] Speaker 3: don't know, I know, but I'm not interested in your
[5:22] Speaker 3: lack of formal education. It's the name of two people
[5:24] Speaker 3: I'm concerned with. I don't know my arm. Look on
[5:28] Speaker 3: my name. It was a name she knew, mister. The
[5:32] Speaker 3: only thing I ever went for. Name name quite Rose
[5:36] Speaker 3: Crose tailor go away on other name kill me. I'll
[5:40] Speaker 3: kill you if you don't the other name hell Busby.
[5:46] Speaker 3: Let go very well, My god Rose Healing and alb

[6:32] Speaker 6: all right, So you're in. So what do we do now, Dan?
[6:35] Speaker 3: Yeah? Sure? Sing? Perhaps you couldn't buy a song from mate,
[6:39] Speaker 3: not even a little song. A man's name, the man behind,
[6:43] Speaker 3: the man behind the guns? Rose, mister important, that's no
[6:47] Speaker 3: small music, Mister, that's the whole opera. Are you afraid
[6:50] Speaker 3: of being two rows in this town?
[6:52] Speaker 6: The best way to stay healthy is to stay afraid.
[6:55] Speaker 3: I'm scared of everyone, mister, I'm even scared of you.
[6:58] Speaker 3: Maybe I should have taken off the puck and he
[7:00] Speaker 3: when Halloween was over, like the rest of the children.
[7:02] Speaker 3: You've got a bug buzn't inside your mister.
[7:05] Speaker 6: It's going to get you killed unless you stop it
[7:07] Speaker 6: from asking the wrong kind of questions. What's your target anyway, right.
[7:12] Speaker 3: Tiger the electric chair, and I intend to dump my
[7:15] Speaker 3: ammunition squarely in it. A man named John Daniels was
[7:19] Speaker 3: killed by a man I'm going to meet very soon.
[7:22] Speaker 3: You're dead, mister, You're all dead.
[7:25] Speaker 6: All that's needed to make it legal for the buzzers
[7:27] Speaker 6: and see you to lie down.
[7:29] Speaker 3: Oh you're dead. As long as I don't know it,
[7:31] Speaker 3: it won't hurt me.
[7:33] Speaker 5: You better go.
[7:34] Speaker 6: If anyone knew I was within ten yards of a
[7:36] Speaker 6: guy who's read hot as you, mister, they burned me
[7:38] Speaker 6: down to please go?
[7:40] Speaker 3: Where can I find the big shot?
[7:42] Speaker 6: I never heard tell of any big shot.
[7:45] Speaker 3: You're barking up the wrong tombstone.
[7:47] Speaker 7: Mister.
[7:48] Speaker 3: You're a morbid little girl, aren't you.
[7:50] Speaker 6: Like I said, in this town death, there's always looking
[7:53] Speaker 6: in on you.
[7:54] Speaker 3: Anyone you meet can be the butcher, even you now go.
[7:57] Speaker 3: I'm scared. What if someone tells you that you were
[8:01] Speaker 3: what you weren't you. Let's get into the fire escape
[8:06] Speaker 3: and don't get down. You don't work rose whoa, Yes, yes,
[8:21] Speaker 3: I was tailed too bad. You were the one who
[8:24] Speaker 3: had to be tagged. Well, mister Templar, I'm glad you
[8:42] Speaker 3: decided to visit the office of the district Attorney voluntarily.
[8:45] Speaker 3: It does save you the embarrassment of mind picking you up, yes,
[8:48] Speaker 3: mister Richards, but it also saves you the embarrassment of
[8:51] Speaker 3: trying to pick me up. Why this sudden desire to
[8:54] Speaker 3: entertain me, mister Richard, I'm not entertaining you, Saint. I'm
[8:58] Speaker 3: houlding you from murder. I repeat why you were in
[9:02] Speaker 3: the same room when Rose Taylor was killed. So the
[9:05] Speaker 3: least I can do to uphold my oath of office,
[9:06] Speaker 3: mister Templar, is to jug you as shall we say,
[9:10] Speaker 3: a material witness. It's nice material, mister Richards, but it
[9:14] Speaker 3: makes it badly sitting ensued. Why was she killed because
[9:18] Speaker 3: she was one of the two people who knew the
[9:20] Speaker 3: name of your local head crumb Bumb. She told you.
[9:24] Speaker 3: I wasn't given enough time to convince it that she
[9:26] Speaker 3: should before someone decided it was the fourth of July.
[9:30] Speaker 3: But there are other ways to search him out and
[9:32] Speaker 3: make sure he keeps his date. His date, mister Temple.
[9:36] Speaker 3: Yea with the chair that men sit in only once.
[9:40] Speaker 3: I thinking John Daniels was a friend of mine from childhood.
[9:44] Speaker 3: I was a pallbearer at his funeral mister Richards, and
[9:47] Speaker 3: so the bullet in his back made his coffin offully heavy.
[9:51] Speaker 3: It got heavier in retrospect when I heard the district
[9:53] Speaker 3: attorney had called the case close, I had to close.
[9:56] Speaker 3: I got up every alley and they were all dead end.
[9:59] Speaker 3: There were too many cases of my steps, I know,
[10:02] Speaker 3: so I'm playing it my way. I've gone up the
[10:04] Speaker 3: same blind alleys in the past few days. Now I'm
[10:07] Speaker 3: in an alley with a freeway at the end of it.
[10:10] Speaker 3: You mean you know who killed then, yes, it's the
[10:13] Speaker 3: number one, the big shot himself. Now all I have
[10:16] Speaker 3: to do is learn his name. It is little and
[10:20] Speaker 3: of course take him. I have to lock you up
[10:22] Speaker 3: for your own safety, and you should, but you won't.
[10:24] Speaker 3: In fact, you can't, no, no, because I took the
[10:27] Speaker 3: liberty to do a little pass agency what I told
[10:31] Speaker 3: the newspapers that I'd be here both today to have
[10:34] Speaker 3: a talk and tomorrow morning at ten o'clock to deliver
[10:37] Speaker 3: a murderer. The people in this town might not approve
[10:41] Speaker 3: of your not giving me the chance. All right, until
[10:46] Speaker 3: ten tomorrow, I'll expect you, mister Templar, with or without
[10:50] Speaker 3: ju victim, I'll be here. I know you'll be here,
[10:53] Speaker 3: mister Templar. The only question is will you be here
[10:57] Speaker 3: dead all the lot? Temper Oh, you stitled me. For
[11:18] Speaker 3: a moment I thought you were someone else, someone who
[11:22] Speaker 3: couldn't possibly walk up to me on the street. Who
[11:26] Speaker 3: are you her sister?
[11:28] Speaker 6: The late Rose Taylor system? Mister Templar, does one call
[11:32] Speaker 6: you things?
[11:33] Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
[11:34] Speaker 6: Why did you kill us?
[11:35] Speaker 3: There's only one possible answer to that. I didn't.
[11:37] Speaker 6: I don't believe you. No, don't reach into that pocket thing, nothingless.
[11:42] Speaker 6: You're completely bored with.
[11:43] Speaker 3: Life, bored. On the contrary, so far, my life with
[11:46] Speaker 3: you has been one continual round of excitement.
[11:49] Speaker 6: Next, I suppose you'll suggest we fly away to the castle.
[11:51] Speaker 3: Or something like that. Only I had the bar up
[11:54] Speaker 3: the street in mind as the place to fly away to.
[11:57] Speaker 6: I don't drink with people I don't trust, so let's
[11:59] Speaker 6: fly my way. Come and in case you're thinking of lingering,
[12:03] Speaker 6: remember I've got a hand on my pocketbook and a
[12:06] Speaker 6: finger danism convinced you didn't chow those I.
[12:08] Speaker 3: Bet it's a twenty five with the mother of pearl hammer.
[12:11] Speaker 6: You win the bet. It's a small gun, but when
[12:14] Speaker 6: the bullets hit they feel big.
[12:17] Speaker 3: Come where are we going?
[12:18] Speaker 6: Someone wants to see you?
[12:19] Speaker 3: And you were delegated to all me and a mere
[12:22] Speaker 3: girl with a mere twenty five.
[12:24] Speaker 6: I wasn't delegated. Do I bag for the job? Flash, Dolphy,
[12:28] Speaker 6: I'd beg for the job because I was hoping you'd
[12:29] Speaker 6: try not to come. Rose was my only sister.
[12:34] Speaker 3: Come on, come on, one more question before I decide
[12:37] Speaker 3: whether or not to be shot or hijack.
[12:39] Speaker 6: Whom are we calling on our Boston? I'm a secretary.
[12:44] Speaker 3: He wants to see you rest your tricker finger, lady.
[12:48] Speaker 3: That's exactly what I feel like doing too.
[13:04] Speaker 5: Hello, well, well, well my old body is saint. I
[13:09] Speaker 5: had Jackie bring you over because I want to warn
[13:11] Speaker 5: you to layoff scene.
[13:12] Speaker 3: At that time. You want me to lay off and
[13:14] Speaker 3: you want that serving.
[13:15] Speaker 5: Time, and I the smartened up scene. I don't bite
[13:19] Speaker 5: off more than I can swallow no longer. I wan's
[13:22] Speaker 5: making you over rich?
[13:23] Speaker 3: Who's the big boss? Alf? For? How much you mean
[13:26] Speaker 3: you'll tell for money?
[13:27] Speaker 5: Can you think of a better thing to get paid off?
[13:29] Speaker 3: In?
[13:30] Speaker 5: I those I'm smartened up. I don't squeeze triggers for
[13:33] Speaker 5: a living.

[13:36] Speaker 3: you specialize in.
[13:37] Speaker 5: Now and in charge of the big bosses books?
[13:40] Speaker 3: You mean there's pet hons and cat black money and
[13:43] Speaker 3: mad but that depends on how the books are kept.
[13:45] Speaker 5: See, I've got a system, and the only guy knows
[13:49] Speaker 5: who the big boy is, and the only guy knows what.
[13:52] Speaker 3: His take is.
[13:53] Speaker 5: It trusts me like a Siamese twin.
[13:55] Speaker 3: That you repay his dress by robbing you.
[13:58] Speaker 5: It's all in the record. I got been telling you
[14:00] Speaker 5: I was smartened up. Nobody knows that, saint, But your

[14:17] Speaker 5: it's the whisky, naturally, so the fortune to our uncle
[14:20] Speaker 5: and back tex stuff. Only our uncle don't know he's
[14:22] Speaker 5: got it coming. So I thought he should. Out of patriotism,
[14:26] Speaker 5: of course, yeah, out of patriotism. They always treated me
[14:30] Speaker 5: so nice and leven weight out of patriotism and ten

[18:13] Speaker 6: don't know.
[18:13] Speaker 3: It's amazing how few people in this town are admit
[18:16] Speaker 3: to knowing anything must be grasped in the public school system.
[18:21] Speaker 6: No fear the nervous system. The only thing people in
[18:27] Speaker 6: this town aren't afraid of is being arrest.
[18:30] Speaker 3: They've been cities like this before, Jackie, and in nine
[18:34] Speaker 3: cases out of ten, when the local Mussolini was eliminated,
[18:38] Speaker 3: the lesser rap scampered off the ship.
[18:41] Speaker 6: The big hunk is bit naughty yourself, Robin Hood. I
[18:44] Speaker 6: wonder if you can swallow through.
[18:49] Speaker 3: And I was beginning to enjoy our conversation. Also the
[18:53] Speaker 3: Chelle number five.
[18:54] Speaker 6: Any day I noticed you were.
[18:56] Speaker 3: Enjoying a well, where are you going?
[19:00] Speaker 6: I'm in a kind of safety zone. I'm leaving town.
[19:03] Speaker 6: Don't be surprised if you get a postcard or a
[19:04] Speaker 6: picture of the arts of triumph.
[19:07] Speaker 3: Goodbye, Jackie and Luck.
[19:09] Speaker 6: You're the one I needs a luck. How can you
[19:12] Speaker 6: get him?
[19:14] Speaker 3: Rose was a good kid. I'll get him. He was
[19:17] Speaker 3: a good chio. And thanks for the night.
[19:25] Speaker 6: I don't know what you're talking.
[19:29] Speaker 3: You where, missus Templer. How convenient of the newspaper to
[19:44] Speaker 3: keep its reference files open at night? Are you a
[19:46] Speaker 3: professional busybody or are you an ax to grind too?
[19:49] Speaker 3: I'm not a busy buddy, mister Templar, nor do I
[19:51] Speaker 3: have an extra grind nearly a gun to shoot, Mister Templar.
[19:54] Speaker 3: You know some days somewhere a man will come up
[19:57] Speaker 3: to me on a dark street merely ask me for
[19:59] Speaker 3: a light. I doubt it. I'm afraid your saintly stay
[20:01] Speaker 3: in this world of tears and chaos is going to
[20:03] Speaker 3: its close. Mister Templer, this time you've poked up the
[20:06] Speaker 3: wrong fire.
[20:08] Speaker 5: You seemed nervous.
[20:09] Speaker 3: Mister Templar, Who were you? Because it matter? We'll be
[20:11] Speaker 3: acquainted such a short time. Well, I'd just like to
[20:13] Speaker 3: know who it is that I am to come back
[20:15] Speaker 3: and hout very well. I am known to the exceedingly
[20:18] Speaker 3: few who know me as the professor. I've had guns
[20:23] Speaker 3: pulled on me by cop cranks, kirks and coroners. But
[20:26] Speaker 3: I believe you're the very first professor. I don't mean
[20:28] Speaker 3: to disillusion you, mister Templer, but I was merely an
[20:31] Speaker 3: assistant professor. If you don't mind the cars over there
[20:34] Speaker 3: and after you, please, no jokes, I assure you this
[20:38] Speaker 3: is the most serious matter. Come here we are you
[20:45] Speaker 3: will get him pleased. Oh ad to you? Oh no,
[20:47] Speaker 3: I forgot. You're not in much of a mood for joking,
[20:49] Speaker 3: are you? No, not unless the joke is mine like this? Oh,
[20:57] Speaker 3: I'm just a little hard to poish you. Could he
[20:59] Speaker 3: save you all, some fool? Can I tell you to
[21:00] Speaker 3: write the car, Stephen, not to offer suggestion? Okay, boys,
[21:03] Speaker 3: where to the country first? We'll go to the place, Stephen.
[21:05] Speaker 3: There are some questions I want mister Temper to answer,
[21:08] Speaker 3: questions that may require us sound to crue. Oh wake up,
[21:25] Speaker 3: mister templar. Oh so there really is someone like you.
[21:29] Speaker 3: I didn't think I deserved that bad a dream, bloody
[21:32] Speaker 3: but unbowed. Hey, mister Temper, for a moment I was
[21:35] Speaker 3: afraid I might have been a trip for two energetic
[21:36] Speaker 3: on your skull. I hate to both, Professor, for my
[21:39] Speaker 3: skull has increased before by experts. In fact, it has
[21:41] Speaker 3: more treads than it and good rich put than his tires.
[21:44] Speaker 3: In front of your little jokes, I see how unfortunate
[21:48] Speaker 3: they must be wasted on me. You see, I'm a
[21:50] Speaker 3: humorless man. So I've noticed I brought you here to
[21:52] Speaker 3: ask you some questions, mister Templa. They should have warned me, Professor.
[21:55] Speaker 3: I'm afraid I didn't come prepared for a quid. I
[21:58] Speaker 3: have various means of preparing, mister Templer, So to begin
[22:02] Speaker 3: to whom did you describe your suspicions concerning a certain
[22:05] Speaker 3: man's identity? Certain man you wouldn't be meaning the big man,
[22:09] Speaker 3: which is a head wracked I have reason to believe
[22:11] Speaker 3: you know who he is. Whom have you been tided
[22:14] Speaker 3: in not prepared? Perspect we either question? Once again? Yes,
[22:19] Speaker 3: but something tells me you'll never play me the sixty
[22:22] Speaker 3: four dollars. I can't tell you how impatient I am
[22:25] Speaker 3: for your answer, mister Templar. See after you finished talking,
[22:29] Speaker 3: I have other things planned for you have nice of
[22:31] Speaker 3: you to take me a mere stranger in tow like this.
[22:34] Speaker 3: I must remember to return all your courtesies when you
[22:37] Speaker 3: untie me. Talk right to the district. Yes, I read
[22:42] Speaker 3: about your books to emulate the Northwest Mounts by bringing
[22:44] Speaker 3: in your men to the district attorney. Pity you won't
[22:47] Speaker 3: keep the table. What is it, Stephen? I thought you
[22:50] Speaker 3: might be wanting. No Stephen, when I want to Stephen
[22:54] Speaker 3: the door? How many times? But I tell you to
[22:56] Speaker 3: keep it close? You're fool. Do you know how I
[22:58] Speaker 3: feel about an open door with notebooks? Came in bush? Effectically,
[23:01] Speaker 3: ain't any this time but year anyway, you'll tell me
[23:04] Speaker 3: a professor of entomology, Stephen three, but what before I
[23:08] Speaker 3: do something? We'll both be sorry for Okay, it's okay.
[23:11] Speaker 2: Ooh.
[23:12] Speaker 3: You know it took me a little time to catch
[23:14] Speaker 3: on to your particular type of insanity, Professor, But I
[23:17] Speaker 3: see it all now. You'll misterfector of entomology a the
[23:21] Speaker 3: study of insects, and you study them so hard. Professor,
[23:24] Speaker 3: you're cracked. You're not in the classroom now with your
[23:27] Speaker 3: students in your specimen babble, Professor, you're in the big leagues.
[23:30] Speaker 3: Now in the world series, Professor, you got to know
[23:33] Speaker 3: everything there was to know about insects, didn't you. You
[23:36] Speaker 3: knew them so well you became afraid of. Is something
[23:41] Speaker 3: to get afraid of when you turn your imagination loose
[23:44] Speaker 3: on the topic, Professor, When you consider how many millions
[23:47] Speaker 3: of insects there are for each human beings? Why on
[23:52] Speaker 3: your sleeve stomach? And I think I just almost style
[23:58] Speaker 3: stops physics un time me. If you want me to
[24:07] Speaker 3: help you, let's tell. You'll have to press tell your sing.
[24:26] Speaker 3: There's the first thing to do is to get all
[24:29] Speaker 3: these fall exciting things out of your mind. That's all
[24:34] Speaker 3: you have to do. Is looks like I'll be able
[24:41] Speaker 3: to keep my day with the district attorney, after all, Professor,
[24:45] Speaker 3: my old grandmother used to say that to you. So
[25:03] Speaker 3: you've kept your word. Mister Templar, you're here and the
[25:06] Speaker 3: last yes, I'm here, desprite the obstacle course death Brados,
[25:10] Speaker 3: I've run through it and diand that will talk. I'm
[25:13] Speaker 3: sorry to say, I don't see your prisoner, mister Templar.
[25:16] Speaker 3: As I recall you were to dish up the head crumbo.
[25:19] Speaker 3: I suppose you couldn't bring him in now. I couldn't
[25:21] Speaker 3: bring him in, you see, he already was. Then I
[25:25] Speaker 3: beg your pardon. Don't beg my pardon, Richard, the governor's
[25:28] Speaker 3: pardon you want, and you know I don't think you'll get.
[25:31] Speaker 3: Are you crazy? No, just slow with it. It seems
[25:34] Speaker 3: being a district attorney is a wonderful cover up for
[25:37] Speaker 3: a crumb bomb, isn't it. You're insane, am I You
[25:40] Speaker 3: sound insane, mister Templar, rushing in here, threatening to kill me,
[25:43] Speaker 3: calling me a crook, and demanding money. Oh oh, of course,
[25:48] Speaker 3: I'd be perfectly willing to forget all of these things
[25:51] Speaker 3: and the various other offenses. I find it so cozy
[25:53] Speaker 3: you'll dream up if you'll just quietly leave town to
[25:56] Speaker 3: pretend you we'llever here. You mean, just forced from my
[25:59] Speaker 3: memory some of the happiest moments of my life, mister
[26:02] Speaker 3: district attorney. Oh no, you're asking too much, and it
[26:05] Speaker 3: looks as though we've reached a stalemate, Templar, unless, of course,
[26:09] Speaker 3: one of us choosers to get violence. Once I catch
[26:11] Speaker 3: a murderer, mister Richards, I leave all further violence to
[26:14] Speaker 3: the state execution. Once you catch him Templar. Right now,
[26:16] Speaker 3: you seem to be in the disturbing position of the
[26:18] Speaker 3: hunter who caught a tiger for the tail. Put up
[26:20] Speaker 3: your hands. Huh oh, you mean over my head. You're
[26:23] Speaker 3: a bud crazy professor made me keep them at my side, templar,
[26:28] Speaker 3: who gave me away. It was a remark I heard,
[26:30] Speaker 3: mister Richards. I was told that the only thing in
[26:33] Speaker 3: this town people aren't afraid of is getting arrested. Oh
[26:38] Speaker 3: so I checked mister district Attorney's record in the newspaper files.
[26:42] Speaker 3: You have an abominable batting average Richards people. Your people
[26:46] Speaker 3: were literally getting away with murder. How clever of you
[26:51] Speaker 3: to control the gang because you could set them free,
[26:54] Speaker 3: and so you also control the wreck. I know, but
[26:57] Speaker 3: you still have to prove your story, mister Templar. Now
[26:59] Speaker 3: it's already done. Took the trouble to switch on your
[27:02] Speaker 3: intercom Riches. I'm afraid our conversation wasn't very proud. And
[27:06] Speaker 3: now mister Richard's our personal before the police get here.
[27:10] Speaker 3: Certainly is this high enough? Or shall I raise them
[27:13] Speaker 3: higher so I can reach this chandelier? Have a nice nap,
[27:22] Speaker 3: mister Richard's time. Sorry, I told up your chandelier. But
[27:25] Speaker 3: my old grandmother always taught me to put out the
[27:28] Speaker 3: lights before going to sleep. I'll saw Vincent Price will
[27:49] Speaker 3: be back in a moment.
[27:51] Speaker 4: If you're a man who's going places, you want to
[27:53] Speaker 4: look your best, So try new Trim hair Tonic. It

[28:16] Speaker 3: Ask for Trim.
[28:18] Speaker 4: It conditions your scalp as it grooms your hair, and
[28:22] Speaker 4: all vincent peiss ladies and gentlemen. It was Robert Blair
[28:26] Speaker 4: in the eighteenth century who best expressed the fate of
[28:28] Speaker 4: our greedy mister Richards when he wrote these words, Oh
[28:32] Speaker 4: cursed lust of gold, When for Thy's sake, the fool
[28:36] Speaker 4: grows up his interest in both worlds. He's lost in this,
[28:41] Speaker 4: condemned in that to come. I sencerely hope you enjoy
[28:44] Speaker 4: to night's show and will be with us again next
[28:46] Speaker 4: week for another adventure of the Saint good Night. That
[28:54] Speaker 4: story of the Saint was written by Michael Clairvoy's music
[28:58] Speaker 4: was composed unconducted by Bill Cinton. Price is appearing by
[29:02] Speaker 4: Curtiesy of Universal International Pictures, producers of Rides the Pink Horse.
[29:07] Speaker 4: Stay tuned in off with a whistler, which follows immediately
[29:09] Speaker 4: over most of these stations, and join us again next
[29:12] Speaker 4: week at the same time for another adventure of the Saints.
[29:16] Speaker 4: The robin Hood of Modern Crime brought for you by
[29:18] Speaker 4: Trim Haretonic and Yes, trim the first hair tonic with
[29:23] Speaker 4: pure olive oil. I am Trim conditions yourself as it
[29:27] Speaker 4: grooves your hair.
[29:28] Speaker 5: Gee.
[29:29] Speaker 3: I am Trim Hairtonic, quick and easy, never dread. It
[29:33] Speaker 3: is easy to do the trim with him.
[29:39] Speaker 4: Wendell Niles speaking, there's a CBS, the Columbia Broadcasting System.
[29:45] Speaker 1: Welcome back. I should know. First of all, this episode
[29:49] Speaker 1: is listed on most websites, and I think I even
[29:52] Speaker 1: toddled it that way because I didn't know how else
[29:55] Speaker 1: I could toddle it the first time through as the
[29:59] Speaker 1: gangster dish Attorney. I hate that title because it totally
[30:04] Speaker 1: spoils the episode to be fair. This may have been
[30:09] Speaker 1: an original title. It was actually mentioned in the newspaper
[30:13] Speaker 1: that way, which would be really odd because, as I said,
[30:18] Speaker 1: you're kind of spoiling the episode. But I used an
[30:22] Speaker 1: alternate title that's out there, mister Important. Still not great,
[30:26] Speaker 1: but at least I didn't give away who did it
[30:29] Speaker 1: when I announced the title of the episode. I actually
[30:34] Speaker 1: enjoyed this episode, even though it differed quite a bit
[30:38] Speaker 1: from the books, mainly in how action pace this is.
[30:44] Speaker 1: In the books, the Saint loved elaborate plans. Here, it's
[30:50] Speaker 1: just kind of confronting everybody head on. But you do
[30:54] Speaker 1: have a lot of the same sort of humor and
[30:58] Speaker 1: courage that you get from the Saint. And then, of
[31:01] Speaker 1: course there are Vincent Price's special touches. I love the
[31:05] Speaker 1: idea of him convincing the Professor that he had to
[31:12] Speaker 1: untie him because of the professor's extreme bug phobia. I mean,
[31:17] Speaker 1: that's a saint Vincent Price can play. But overall, a
[31:21] Speaker 1: very exciting story right from the word go. A lot
[31:24] Speaker 1: of snappy patter. You can definitely hear some of the
[31:28] Speaker 1: influence of the Hard Boiled Detectives in the way that
[31:32] Speaker 1: this is written. But this was often the case with
[31:37] Speaker 1: theories that were popular as books. They would be adapted
[31:41] Speaker 1: into other media, but in such a way as to
[31:44] Speaker 1: align with whatever the trend was at the moment. But
[31:48] Speaker 1: it's all carried off very well by Vincent Priss, who
[31:52] Speaker 1: really keeps this story moving along and turns in a
[31:57] Speaker 1: very solid performance. And we'll talk more about mister Price
[32:01] Speaker 1: in next week's episode. But now it's time to thank

[33:30] Speaker 7: The owner is dead long, its so called friend badly wounded,
[33:33] Speaker 7: the money, the bottle of wine has all this to it?
[33:36] Speaker 7: Can't you figure it out?
[33:37] Speaker 3: No? I can't. What's your idea? Well?
[33:40] Speaker 7: The great merceress stumped?
[33:42] Speaker 3: What do you know?
[33:44] Speaker 1: I say?
[33:45] Speaker 3: Lets you on a secret.
[33:48] Speaker 7: That man with.
[33:50] Speaker 1: Kill how.
[33:56] Speaker 7: How he says? How? Why your gun?
[33:59] Speaker 3: That's out? All?
[34:02] Speaker 1: Please?
[34:03] Speaker 3: Okay? Where does no joke it? Well?
[34:07] Speaker 7: There it is open and chut. The two of them
[34:11] Speaker 7: were friends, my all friends. They got any look right,
[34:15] Speaker 7: theren't too much to drink, got around of money and
[34:18] Speaker 7: so which got long long chut? We do as we
[34:23] Speaker 7: say on the bus up? Can I uh look around,
[34:28] Speaker 7: look around with of course, mister Mercer. Look around by
[34:31] Speaker 7: own means no doubt we overlook some special clue which
[34:34] Speaker 7: proves the murder was a left handed Irish.
