[22:17] Speaker 4: So I'm worried. What about me?
[22:20] Speaker 7: I don't think it's safe for us to meet. It's
[22:21] Speaker 7: such a public place.
[22:22] Speaker 4: For I got a seven in my pocket. It's just
[22:26] Speaker 4: a new mistakesis president. The papers are full of pictures
[22:30] Speaker 4: of the wreck I got killed two days ago.
[22:32] Speaker 9: Remember, Joe Brust will be wanting to see the fakes too,
[22:34] Speaker 9: And then there the other man.
[22:38] Speaker 13: Yeah, wouldn't the platform, it's such, that's right next morning.
[22:42] Speaker 13: So Peak Williams was the guy I met last night
[22:47] Speaker 13: right here, the baristat shooting up.
[22:49] Speaker 4: It's not about racing drivers getting a little log of him.
[22:52] Speaker 4: It turns out to be an all right guy. He's
[22:54] Speaker 4: in the same record.
[22:54] Speaker 7: He's sure, he's all right.
[22:56] Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's a lot of the same people
[22:57] Speaker 4: I do o the tay see they're going over to
[22:59] Speaker 4: Bruce the apartment, Davy. I'll call you late it okay,
[23:03] Speaker 4: so wrong, honey, hellout, Pete? What goes? I got a
[23:21] Speaker 4: tip for a guy. What guy? A guy named Joe Stacey.
[23:25] Speaker 4: Joe Stacey's dead. I read in the paper.
[23:28] Speaker 12: If he isn't already Maybe he's going to be what's
[23:31] Speaker 12: the tip? The finger is getting put on him by
[23:34] Speaker 12: his boy?
[23:35] Speaker 4: But what if I got says the boss.
[23:38] Speaker 12: I already figured out it wasn't Jill Stacy in that wreck,
[23:41] Speaker 12: but a bird named George Lusade. He figures it with Stacy.
[23:45] Speaker 12: How do you know that boss has been trying to
[23:48] Speaker 12: contact a couple of tiggurements in Chicago?
[23:51] Speaker 4: Why are you telling me? I hate hot tips to
[23:55] Speaker 4: go to win? Can I reach you later? Saying about
[23:58] Speaker 4: an hour?
[23:59] Speaker 7: I mean?
[23:59] Speaker 4: Will you want me to be matter? What here? What
[24:01] Speaker 4: will you do for me? I'll come back and get you.
[24:05] Speaker 4: It's sober? Sure? H Hello, oh honey, it's Joe. Listen.
[24:23] Speaker 4: You were right to be leery of that guy Pete
[24:25] Speaker 4: Williams to try to taper on me. But he tells
[24:28] Speaker 4: me Bruce the court On of the rector. He's not
[24:30] Speaker 4: hiring guys to take care of me. What did Jeric?
[24:33] Speaker 4: How do you figure? Well? How do you have Bruce
[24:36] Speaker 4: the court On already? You know about it, wouldn't you? Well,
[24:39] Speaker 4: wouldn't you?
[24:41] Speaker 7: I've been thinking I've got a scheme boy to get
[24:44] Speaker 7: for the Bruce, to get some bill and take care
[24:46] Speaker 7: of your friends tonight.
[24:47] Speaker 4: Always want Dave Peters, I've landed Stacy. Did he reveal
[25:04] Speaker 4: who the boss is? No, but he's pulling in on
[25:06] Speaker 4: his scheme of revenge on the boss. We're going to
[25:09] Speaker 4: hold him up. Then Stacy plans to kill him. He
[25:12] Speaker 4: goes behind you with one of our mobile squads. We'll
[25:15] Speaker 4: break it up in time. Well, it may not be
[25:16] Speaker 4: easy day. The boss lives in a penthouse and has
[25:19] Speaker 4: some tricky system to control the elevator. Stacy's girlfriend is
[25:23] Speaker 4: on the double. Cross the boss and let us in.
[25:26] Speaker 4: Then you'll have to find some way of letting out
[25:27] Speaker 4: to him. When's the job said for eleven o'clock to night?
[25:51] Speaker 7: What time was that? Mister Bruce?
[25:53] Speaker 4: Hey elever, do you see him restless love board with
[25:58] Speaker 4: your johns?
[26:00] Speaker 7: To believe me, I was never less forward with it.
[26:03] Speaker 4: Someone's in the yelement, not expecting anyone. I'll find out
[26:09] Speaker 4: who it is.
[26:10] Speaker 7: Bruce, stay away from that in the car or.
[26:13] Speaker 4: What's the meaning of that Gun's Laura's as you said,
[26:23] Speaker 4: sut down by the desk, Laura, what is the meaning
[26:25] Speaker 4: of this? Shut up in a flash? I thought you
[26:31] Speaker 4: then Laura told let they act Bruce. I know about
[26:34] Speaker 4: the wood. You were trying to get the running out
[26:35] Speaker 4: rough you what I tell you? I thought you were dead.
[26:37] Speaker 4: You're a lion Brews Bay See who is this other man?
[26:40] Speaker 4: Said Williams. The guy put a finger on you for
[26:42] Speaker 4: putting a finger on me. Now this man is tricking you.
[26:44] Speaker 4: I sweat.
[26:45] Speaker 7: Wait, maybe Bruce is telling the truth. Maybe he did.
[26:49] Speaker 7: We're going to find out meantime. I'm holding the gun
[26:55] Speaker 7: in the right hand draw of the desk accommodation of
[26:57] Speaker 7: the Stay.
[26:59] Speaker 4: Bruce, take a little trip. Just stay in here, Laura.
[27:02] Speaker 4: You can't leave me for this cheap bud. All right?
[27:09] Speaker 4: Take it open.
[27:10] Speaker 7: Yeah, that's just over there on the wall. Chase Now
[27:14] Speaker 7: I can turn that music off of good.
[27:21] Speaker 4: Borrow.
[27:21] Speaker 7: What's the brother? Someone's in the elevator.
[27:25] Speaker 4: I gotta choo, get out of the way.
[27:30] Speaker 2: The elevator.
[27:31] Speaker 4: Come, how do we get out back to the roof?
[27:33] Speaker 4: Come on, you don't sus run? How do you know
[27:36] Speaker 4: who it is?
[27:37] Speaker 7: What? He's right? We'll play where it is. We invite
[27:41] Speaker 7: and we put the street the girl by the way.
[27:43] Speaker 7: You've done, mom, Yeah, you go get by the elevators.
[27:47] Speaker 4: Now hold everything.
[27:52] Speaker 10: There is nobody in the elevator, so quick, all everything,
[27:55] Speaker 10: all of you, Colifie, don't move over with you?
[27:58] Speaker 4: All right? Boys for every door and went off. Okay,
[28:03] Speaker 4: oh right, Peter Hunting. But I wish I'd known you
[28:06] Speaker 4: were coming in from the terrace. Looks like a good
[28:08] Speaker 4: haul you made. This is Joe Stacey, murderer about ready
[28:13] Speaker 4: to have a stroke lost up and this I take
[28:16] Speaker 4: it as a girlfriend.
[28:17] Speaker 7: Not yours. Cuff Take your hands off.
[28:20] Speaker 4: Gladly after I get these handcuffs on you.
[28:24] Speaker 11: Here are cold behind the desk, mister Hunting, the big
[28:27] Speaker 11: fish Andrew Brewster, used car dealer in hot car recative Peter.
[28:32] Speaker 4: He looks so peaceful.
[28:33] Speaker 11: I almost hate to wake him up and give him
[28:35] Speaker 11: all the bad news he got coming to him. But
[28:37] Speaker 11: on second thought, I think it'll be a real pleasure.
[28:40] Speaker 11: Let's get to a theater when your friends drop in.
[28:54] Speaker 11: Be generous, but be thrifty too, sir, Putty up delicious pets.
[28:58] Speaker 11: The Cola Pepsie see twelve out bottle gives you not
[29:02] Speaker 11: just one sparkling glassful, but two. Get a carton of
[29:05] Speaker 11: stick and serve twelve delicious rates. Yes, Pepsi is America's
[29:10] Speaker 11: biggest hold about you. You get twice, the tangy case twice,
[29:13] Speaker 11: the refreshment twice, the PETSI, the why take less when
[29:18] Speaker 11: Petsy's best. Whenever you reach for refreshments, remember.
[29:22] Speaker 4: The call on glasses. Lot lots more value, a lot
[29:27] Speaker 4: more deaths.
[29:28] Speaker 2: Take lest when Testy says, Tune and every Tuesday and Thursday,
[29:32] Speaker 2: same time, same station to Counterspy. Listen next Tuesday for
[29:36] Speaker 2: the exciting Counterspy case of the Postal pirates, the little
[29:41] Speaker 2: black box that caught the revolver in mid air, the
[29:44] Speaker 2: one fingered typist who punctuated sentences with bullets, and the
[29:48] Speaker 2: double crosser who tasted their own medicine and died as
[29:52] Speaker 2: a resultant case of a Postal Pirates on counter Spive.
[30:04] Speaker 2: The Night's Counterspy program, originated in New York, was directed
[30:08] Speaker 2: by William M. Sweet and featured Don McLaughlin and Mandelle Kramer,
[30:12] Speaker 2: with music by Deasy Cropper. Counterspy is a Philip State
[30:16] Speaker 2: Laurd production for Pepsicola. Enjoy Some pepsi Ice Cold Tonight,
[30:35] Speaker 2: Welcome Back.
[30:37] Speaker 1: I enjoyed Laura's character being really proactive and taking the
[30:43] Speaker 1: story in a direction that you wouldn't have expected and
[30:47] Speaker 1: it is up turning the tables on her boss. Of course,
[30:52] Speaker 1: she had to be captured by Counterspy, but the story
[30:57] Speaker 1: gave her that one moment of trying. There were few
[31:01] Speaker 1: sound effects more satisfying than her breaking that record. To
[31:06] Speaker 1: be clear, it's actually a fine piece of music from
[31:10] Speaker 1: Act four of the opera Less Contest de Hoffmann at four.
[31:17] Speaker 1: But I might not feel so warmly about it if
[31:21] Speaker 1: I was having to listen to it on repeat for
[31:24] Speaker 1: months on end as part of a somewhat creepy romantic advance.
[31:30] Speaker 2: So the writer said, yeah, she's.
[31:31] Speaker 1: Got to go to jail, but first we'll let her
[31:33] Speaker 1: break the record. And the boss is the type of
[31:36] Speaker 1: person who sets this whole elaborate system with the elevator
[31:40] Speaker 1: but doesn't think about somebody coming through the terrace, which
[31:45] Speaker 1: was a good improvisation by David Hardy. Peters might have
[31:50] Speaker 1: wanted to know before he risked his life trying to
[31:54] Speaker 1: get the elevator there. But then again, that's the type
[31:57] Speaker 1: of thing you have to expect when we're looking for Counterspy.
[32:02] Speaker 1: We have an email from Lawrence who rides High Adam
[32:05] Speaker 1: and the last David Harding adventure that you played. They
[32:07] Speaker 1: didn't provide a complete cast list, and this is in
[32:10] Speaker 1: reference to the Courageous Come On, but I'm pretty sure
[32:14] Speaker 1: the only woman character in that episode was Mercedes McCambridge.
[32:18] Speaker 1: She had such a unique and distinctive, distinctive voice continued success. Well,
[32:24] Speaker 1: thank you very much, appreciate the alment, and I think
[32:29] Speaker 1: you might be right. When I first encountered Mercedes mc cambridge,
[32:35] Speaker 1: it was through the series we played on The Great
[32:38] Speaker 1: Detectives Defense Attorney, and there's a lot to that voice
[32:43] Speaker 1: into that character. I think it's close to her natural
[32:48] Speaker 1: performing voice, but she does very a little bit, and
[32:53] Speaker 1: there are subtler characters she does and I find those
[32:58] Speaker 1: hard to call for sure, but that would have been
[33:01] Speaker 1: the right era for it. And then some comments on
[33:05] Speaker 1: the same episode on Facebook Matthew Wrights, I love these,
[33:09] Speaker 1: David said, Adam, thanks for the shout after the show
[33:12] Speaker 1: this week, I remind listeners to be mindful of inflation
[33:15] Speaker 1: and up their Patreons donations a couple bucks. I started
[33:19] Speaker 1: at the seven fourteen level in twenty nineteen, and earlier
[33:22] Speaker 1: this year I got to thinking that is not as
[33:25] Speaker 1: much buying for The Great Detectives as it used to be.
[33:28] Speaker 1: It was easy to go into the app and revise
[33:31] Speaker 1: the number. Well, David, I appreciate that, and it's a
[33:34] Speaker 1: fair point. The costco hot dog and the great detectives
[33:39] Speaker 1: of old time Patreon memberships are things that you can
[33:44] Speaker 1: get for the same price as you could back in
[33:46] Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. Really appreciate folks who choose to increase their pledge,
[33:53] Speaker 1: but it's certainly not an expectation I have. My goal
[33:58] Speaker 1: is to find more Patreons, which helps out with inflation.
[34:03] Speaker 1: There are some aspects of the Patreon program I'm going
[34:08] Speaker 1: to look at or I would like to. We've not
[34:12] Speaker 1: changed a whole lot in eleven years, and some of
[34:15] Speaker 1: the goals and benefits that we had when we set
[34:18] Speaker 1: up are rarely used and I don't think are particularly motivating.
[34:24] Speaker 1: So that is on my big list of things that
[34:28] Speaker 1: I would like to get to. But at any rate,
[34:31] Speaker 1: thank you so much. Appreciate your com thought, David. And
[34:34] Speaker 1: now it is time to think our Patreon supporter of
[34:38] Speaker 1: the day, and I want to thank Dinah, Patreon supporter
[34:41] Speaker 1: since October twenty twenty five, currently supporting the podcast at
[34:46] Speaker 1: the secret agent level of four dollars or more per month.

[34:52] Speaker 1: do it for today. If you're enjoying the podcast, please

[35:17] Speaker 1: Old Time Radio and Tarzan. In the meantime, do send
[35:21] Speaker 1: your comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net.
[35:25] Speaker 1: From Boise, Idaho, this is your host, Adam Graham signing off.
