[1:23] Speaker 2: You rarely ever see you on the Game and Former show.
[1:27] Speaker 1: Holy hell, look I can touch Yeah, we're here in person.
[1:32] Speaker 3: Video editors wobble, but they don't fall down.
[1:34] Speaker 2: Your little box can't save you now?
[1:36] Speaker 3: Oh god?
[1:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, hello, Eric van Allen, Hi, I'm here.
[1:39] Speaker 3: We're We're actually present and in each other's lives. Look
[1:42] Speaker 3: at this, we all live in the same place for
[1:45] Speaker 3: five days.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, well we just we are recording this at
[1:50] Speaker 1: the end of Summer Game Best, but we've been recording
[1:53] Speaker 1: for several days. We've got special guests throughout the show. Today,
[1:57] Speaker 1: we've got folks like Jason Schreier, Miles of Benza, Gianna
[2:01] Speaker 1: Garcia One, Jill Groad, former Game Informer editor. A ton
[2:06] Speaker 1: of people came through this week and we had an
[2:09] Speaker 1: excellent podcast. So I'm excited for to get into that
[2:13] Speaker 1: and a little bit. We're gonna finally take some time
[2:16] Speaker 1: and start the show off by talking about the games
[2:18] Speaker 1: we played here at Summer Game Fest and all we
[2:20] Speaker 1: thought of the experience as a whole. I do want
[2:23] Speaker 1: to say that this year was I think one of
[2:27] Speaker 1: my favorite sgfs. It was, you know, a little interesting
[2:32] Speaker 1: in some ways, but I think all in all, it
[2:34] Speaker 1: was just nice to see people, nice to see and
[2:37] Speaker 1: work with people that I love and care about. And
[2:40] Speaker 1: we saw some good games. I think, you know, high
[2:43] Speaker 1: up on my list is something like a Blood Dungeon,
[2:47] Speaker 1: which we'll talk about later in the show, as well
[2:49] Speaker 1: as Slap out of It, which is I think every
[2:53] Speaker 1: That was my first or second appointment of the show,
[2:55] Speaker 1: and I proceeded to tell every person I saw that
[2:58] Speaker 1: should go and play it. But I want to hear
[3:01] Speaker 1: what you guys thought about the show, and and you know,
[3:04] Speaker 1: maybe Kick Up kicks off with some games you played. Marcus,
[3:08] Speaker 1: Let's start with you.
[3:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a great time. This is my third SGF,
[3:13] Speaker 2: but I thought this might also be my favorite. Like
[3:15] Speaker 2: I thought the energy was great this year. It was
[3:18] Speaker 2: the biggest ever been. I mean, Nintendo was here, which
[3:20] Speaker 2: I think is the first time they've ever had like
[3:22] Speaker 2: a proper real presence at the show.
[3:24] Speaker 3: It was a third party presence, which was really interesting.
[3:27] Speaker 3: It was it was a lot of stuff out here,
[3:30] Speaker 3: that's definitely. I attended it for GI and it was
[3:33] Speaker 3: a lot of stuff that was on switches, but we
[3:35] Speaker 3: didn't see any like Star fux or anything like that.
[3:38] Speaker 3: But it was cool to see like a banner, a
[3:40] Speaker 3: Nintendo banner here.
[3:41] Speaker 2: Yes, but yeah, I thought that the game in terms
[3:46] Speaker 2: of the variety of it was very strong this year.
[3:48] Speaker 2: A lot of really fun demos, a lot of surprises
[3:52] Speaker 2: in terms of just when I would talk to you guys,
[3:54] Speaker 2: would talk to colleagues about like what was cool with
[3:58] Speaker 2: the show and just getting like some surprising answers that
[4:00] Speaker 2: I just let either games I wasn't on my radar
[4:03] Speaker 2: or was but there was like, oh is this better
[4:05] Speaker 2: than I maybe gave it credit for. Okay, that's cool,
[4:07] Speaker 2: but yeah, yeah there like I've had a blast being here.
[4:11] Speaker 2: I'm dog tired. Yeah, at this point, I've been here
[4:15] Speaker 2: longer than you.
[4:16] Speaker 1: Guys, though you have your on day nine.
[4:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been here. I had two other events that
[4:20] Speaker 2: I flew out to LA ahead of you guys showing up.
[4:24] Speaker 2: So I've been here. It'll be a total ten days
[4:26] Speaker 2: by the time I leave.
[4:27] Speaker 1: Really.
[4:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm I'm about ready to head back to
[4:32] Speaker 2: the beautiful state of Florida.
[4:34] Speaker 1: But yeah, you got to go get ready for GTA six.
[4:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I got to get the state ready.
[4:39] Speaker 1: Got a lot of prep work. I imagine I got to
[4:41] Speaker 1: talk to DeSantis. Yeah, yeah, everybody's everybody's on this. Yeah, Eric,
[4:49] Speaker 1: how about you? How's your show?
[4:51] Speaker 3: It's been interesting. I agree with the sentiment that I
[4:53] Speaker 3: think it's probably my favorite SGF that I can think
[4:56] Speaker 3: of off the top of my head, barring maybe my
[4:58] Speaker 3: my second second was pretty good too. Yeah, but it's
[5:02] Speaker 3: been a really good one this year. I mean, you've
[5:04] Speaker 3: talked with people, you know in general on trying to
[5:06] Speaker 3: practice a little bit of gratitude. In our last segment,
[5:10] Speaker 3: Alex is going to say something similar that that I
[5:13] Speaker 3: think has really kind of resonated with a lot of
[5:15] Speaker 3: us this weekend, is that, you know, we're here to
[5:17] Speaker 3: do some really really cool stuff and show off some
[5:20] Speaker 3: you know that the media can be a filter, that
[5:23] Speaker 3: media can be a recommendation engine, that media can be
[5:26] Speaker 3: a place where interesting thought and discussion happens, and we
[5:30] Speaker 3: can act as that that medium to help that happen.
[5:32] Speaker 3: So getting back into that, doing a lot of this work,
[5:35] Speaker 3: a lot of the video interviews, a lot of the
[5:37] Speaker 3: stuff we're doing here has been really really cool. And
[5:39] Speaker 3: then we've also been seeing a lot of cool games
[5:41] Speaker 3: that I have to constantly check my phone for to
[5:44] Speaker 3: make sure that I know what the embargo is.
[5:46] Speaker 1: Yes, if you see us checking our phones, it's it's embargos.
[5:49] Speaker 4: I know.
[5:50] Speaker 2: I know.
[5:50] Speaker 3: Some sometimes people get on my case because I'll be
[5:52] Speaker 3: looking off screen during the GI show and normally that's
[5:55] Speaker 3: me just checking to make sure that OBS is not exploded.
[5:59] Speaker 2: During the show. Guess what, my phone is not on me.
[6:02] Speaker 2: So I'm gonna be a loose cannon boy this time.
[6:05] Speaker 2: It is.
[6:05] Speaker 1: I can't wait to edit this.
[6:08] Speaker 3: Well, you can't wait to it?
[6:09] Speaker 5: Yeah?
[6:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, he said it.
[6:11] Speaker 3: He said it. He has to do it now. Yeah, no,
[6:14] Speaker 3: it some really really cool stuff. I mean, I think
[6:17] Speaker 3: a lot of my personal games, all of the stuff
[6:19] Speaker 3: I took was not the higher profile stuff that kind
[6:22] Speaker 3: of fell to some of the more senior members of
[6:24] Speaker 3: the crew. I'm not complaining, I promise. It was more
[6:28] Speaker 3: like I got to chase after some of the really cool,
[6:31] Speaker 3: uh more niche or surprising things. And at the show,
[6:35] Speaker 3: I think Alex took up a lot of those indieanpoyments.
[6:37] Speaker 3: You actually took a lot too, and stuff like that.
[6:40] Speaker 2: So yeah, I got a lot they have. I think
[6:43] Speaker 2: I've probably spent the most time with Anna Perna just
[6:46] Speaker 2: based on my schedule, like I was there, I think
[6:48] Speaker 2: at least once every day, it felt like. But saw
[6:52] Speaker 2: a couple of theater showings, played a couple of small
[6:55] Speaker 2: games that they're publishing. Yeah.
[6:57] Speaker 6: Nice.
[6:57] Speaker 2: They had a pretty big presence this year.
[7:00] Speaker 1: One one game that I want to talk about that
[7:03] Speaker 1: I don't want to forget about is some of the
[7:05] Speaker 1: developers of split Gate and split Gate two Border Wars
[7:09] Speaker 1: ten forty seven games. It's called Impulse, and guys, it's
[7:14] Speaker 1: probably the closest thing we're going to get to titan
[7:16] Speaker 1: Fall two for a long time. Titan Fall to multiplayer, Yeah,
[7:20] Speaker 1: where and you are like a pilot running around wall running, sliding,
[7:30] Speaker 1: doing all sorts of stuff and then grappling around with
[7:32] Speaker 1: a grapple hook. And then instead of fighting for control
[7:35] Speaker 1: of power weapons like a sniper or like a you know,
[7:39] Speaker 1: a rocket launcher or something, there will be a notification
[7:42] Speaker 1: that like people see that it's time to fight over
[7:45] Speaker 1: a mech, and a mech is about to spawn, and
[7:48] Speaker 1: it's kind of a race to see who can pilot it.
[7:51] Speaker 1: And then once you once you do have it, of course,
[7:54] Speaker 1: you have your your kind of power level increases significantly.
[7:58] Speaker 1: When you're powering that thing. It's got like a gatling gun.
[8:03] Speaker 1: You can of course just kind of like run over people.
[8:06] Speaker 1: It's got like a if you press I was playing
[8:07] Speaker 1: a mouse and keyboard, if you press and shift, then
[8:10] Speaker 1: you would kind of like sprint forward like dashed forward,
[8:13] Speaker 1: which is a fun feeling in a mech And I
[8:15] Speaker 1: think they really kind of nailed the Titan Fall feel
[8:17] Speaker 1: of like kind of being in that uh, you know,
[8:22] Speaker 1: you are on this massive, like hulking machine, but there's
[8:27] Speaker 1: like almost like a a looseness to it that feels
[8:31] Speaker 1: really good. That it's kind of like juxtaposed with like
[8:34] Speaker 1: being inside this giant, you know machine. But yeah, I
[8:38] Speaker 1: really I really enjoyed it. I thought it it felt
[8:41] Speaker 1: really good to play the They kind of set up
[8:43] Speaker 1: a few different loadouts and I just had a I
[8:46] Speaker 1: was just playing it against bots, so I was I
[8:49] Speaker 1: was in a little playground, you know, just having a blast.
[8:53] Speaker 2: Is it a multiplayer only game or is there any
[8:55] Speaker 2: single player?
[8:56] Speaker 1: It is? It is a multiplayer only, I believe. Yeah.
[8:59] Speaker 1: But they've got this like they're grenades they call paints,
[9:03] Speaker 1: and there's like some in universe language, but you essentially
[9:07] Speaker 1: throw a grenade that is like think of it as
[9:09] Speaker 1: almost like a splatoon grenade or something, where like you
[9:12] Speaker 1: throw it and it affects you know, the walls, the floor,
[9:15] Speaker 1: the ceilings of you know, whatever's in the blast radius.
[9:18] Speaker 3: And then you can sing into it and swim.
[9:21] Speaker 1: Not quite, but you can customize what that paint does
[9:25] Speaker 1: depending on which one you've equipped. So one of them
[9:27] Speaker 1: is like a simple it's like a slow it's like
[9:29] Speaker 1: almost like a sticky paint, and so that's really good
[9:32] Speaker 1: for locking down like a mech that you don't have
[9:34] Speaker 1: control of, and everyone's secondary weapon is are hammers, and
[9:39] Speaker 1: you literally just take hammers and beat the hell out
[9:41] Speaker 1: of the mechs as you do. They also have like
[9:44] Speaker 1: a weak point in the center of their cockpit. But
[9:47] Speaker 1: like it's so fun to like be zipping around and
[9:50] Speaker 1: like hammering mech.
[9:51] Speaker 2: Hey guys, let's go beat up that gund Yeah exactly,
[9:54] Speaker 2: like mugging energy.
[9:55] Speaker 1: So this is yeah, gundas existed when I was a
[9:58] Speaker 1: kid with hammer Let's kill the yeah, yeah exactly. And
[10:03] Speaker 1: so like you can use like the sticky grenade of
[10:06] Speaker 1: sorts you can use. There's one that's like just kind
[10:08] Speaker 1: of a straightforward like this deals explosion damage, but it does.
[10:12] Speaker 1: It's like a more of a dot and it's like
[10:14] Speaker 1: depending on when you are standing in it or touching it,
[10:17] Speaker 1: it will do different damage depending on the timeline of
[10:20] Speaker 1: like when it was thrown in stuff. I think one
[10:22] Speaker 1: of the more interesting ones is like a it's like
[10:24] Speaker 1: a essentially a jump paint that you can like go
[10:28] Speaker 1: into it and you get this huge you get a
[10:30] Speaker 1: huge jump boost. But like it's all serving like the
[10:33] Speaker 1: purpose of like enhancing your kit and your strategy. And
[10:38] Speaker 1: I just think this game has excellent flow and it's
[10:42] Speaker 1: just like one of those Listen if you if my movement,
[10:45] Speaker 1: like moment to moment movement feels fun, Like that's that's
[10:50] Speaker 1: what I'm looking for in a game, right, Like is
[10:52] Speaker 1: it fun to move? You know, later later on the
[10:54] Speaker 1: g I Show, you know, some folks will talk about
[10:57] Speaker 1: like the importance of like making movement fun, right, and like,
[11:01] Speaker 1: you know, I'm not just holding a stick forward and
[11:03] Speaker 1: sprinting right and waiting to see annemy. I'm always kind
[11:06] Speaker 1: of doing something to get to a higher vantage point,
[11:09] Speaker 1: get get around this corner and try to get the
[11:12] Speaker 1: jump on people. And it felt really good. I was
[11:15] Speaker 1: actually really impressed. They've been working on this for about
[11:18] Speaker 1: I think like a year and a half, a little
[11:20] Speaker 1: over year since they wrapped on splic Gate two. I
[11:26] Speaker 1: did really want to ask the developer about his infamous
[11:30] Speaker 1: make FBS grates again.
[11:32] Speaker 2: I noticed him over by his booth and he had
[11:35] Speaker 2: a different hat.
[11:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you wouldn't believe it, Yeah, I yeah, yes,
[11:41] Speaker 1: And so I was prepared to ask some of that,
[11:43] Speaker 1: and then he was pretty disarming because he's a big
[11:46] Speaker 1: game and former fan, which of course every appointment, like
[11:49] Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan, but I was like, I think
[11:51] Speaker 1: he really is. And I was like, you guys, I
[11:52] Speaker 1: will say, He's like, maybe we can grow, we can
[11:54] Speaker 1: all change it.
[11:55] Speaker 2: I will say in his defense, I interviewed him a
[11:57] Speaker 2: couple of times for the original splic Gate and he
[12:00] Speaker 2: was like, you seem like a genuinely like nice guy.
[12:03] Speaker 1: I think maybe it was a very bad move that
[12:06] Speaker 1: maybe he thought was gonna land differently that yeah, yeah,
[12:11] Speaker 1: that's maybe a charitable way of interpreting that, or you know,
[12:14] Speaker 1: but you know, people, people contain multitudes. But he was
[12:18] Speaker 1: a really nice guy. I think he's his team is
[12:20] Speaker 1: working on a on a good game and I'm excited
[12:23] Speaker 1: to play it. I think there's like either a BETO
[12:26] Speaker 1: or early access coming like later this month. But it's
[12:28] Speaker 1: Impulse with an E an E impulse. I'm an impulse
[12:32] Speaker 1: by Impulse. By the way, I've got a wild game
[12:36] Speaker 1: to talk to you all about. Yeah, the one that
[12:38] Speaker 1: I had to check the embargo for. I guided a
[12:42] Speaker 1: hands off demo of The Wolf among Us two.
[12:46] Speaker 3: Oh, that was a really interesting one. I basically sat
[12:49] Speaker 3: on the couch. Yeah, this game, this game is real.
[12:53] Speaker 3: It was, it was in development, it was in progress
[12:56] Speaker 3: in many ways. But I sat down with the creative
[13:01] Speaker 3: director of the game, sat on the couch next to me,
[13:03] Speaker 3: and just kind of drove the session as I made
[13:07] Speaker 3: choices for it. And it was really interesting to go
[13:12] Speaker 3: through that because I think I never finished the first
[13:15] Speaker 3: Wolf among Us, but I played a pretty good chunk
[13:17] Speaker 3: of it back when it first came out, and that
[13:19] Speaker 3: was years and years ago with the original Telltale crew,
[13:24] Speaker 3: and obviously a lot of time has passed. The makeup
[13:28] Speaker 3: of what Telltale is has changed over time. I mean
[13:30] Speaker 3: Telltale has literally died and come back in that time.
[13:34] Speaker 3: Shout outs to game companies that die and come back
[13:38] Speaker 3: and there's sense a mixture of kind of old Telltale
[13:43] Speaker 3: folks and new folks working at this new studio trying
[13:46] Speaker 3: to make essentially a Wolf among Us that picks up
[13:49] Speaker 3: six months after the first game ends, and I was
[13:54] Speaker 3: fascinated by the challenge of having to approach that kind
[13:59] Speaker 3: of thing, I think, especially because it's such a beloved
[14:02] Speaker 3: Telltale game. But I was really impressed by what I saw.
[14:06] Speaker 3: I saw a section that was kind of at the
[14:08] Speaker 3: end of the first episode, they told me it is
[14:12] Speaker 3: a singular game that will still be broken up into episodes.
[14:15] Speaker 3: I feel like that's kind of where a lot of
[14:16] Speaker 3: these adventure games have gone over over the years, is
[14:19] Speaker 3: that the episodic format does fit it, and even stuff
[14:23] Speaker 3: like Dispatch will kind of do a you know, here's
[14:26] Speaker 3: one every so often. But even that was a very
[14:28] Speaker 3: condensed schedule compared to you know, think of Life as
[14:31] Speaker 3: Strange one and how long that took to fully release.
[14:36] Speaker 3: But it was basically a locked room where Big B
[14:40] Speaker 3: and this NYPD cop who has kind of been swept
[14:43] Speaker 3: up in these murders that are happening, or trying to
[14:45] Speaker 3: solve this puzzle to get out. And I was really
[14:49] Speaker 3: impressed by how much there was, there were puzzles, there
[14:53] Speaker 3: were actual solving, there were they explicitly wanted to show
[14:57] Speaker 3: off in this demo the amount of signposting you can
[15:02] Speaker 3: or cannot opt into, which I thought was really interesting
[15:05] Speaker 3: because on recently in the g I slack and also
[15:09] Speaker 3: in many other forums, I have lamented the rise of
[15:13] Speaker 3: the talking head who tells you how to solve the
[15:16] Speaker 3: puzzle the second you walk into a room. When you know,
[15:19] Speaker 3: you walk into a room and you're looking around, You're
[15:22] Speaker 3: just trying to take in the scenery and look at things, and.
[15:25] Speaker 2: Example, perhaps a controversy.
[15:27] Speaker 3: Those brother you get on the box over there and
[15:29] Speaker 3: I hit the switch. It's I get really tired of
[15:34] Speaker 3: that stuff.
[15:34] Speaker 1: And so that happened to me, by the way, I
[15:37] Speaker 1: won't say which came. I was demo in a game
[15:40] Speaker 1: this week Get Play Days.
[15:41] Speaker 2: Oh this is real.
[15:42] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and the person kept interrupting me and telling
[15:48] Speaker 1: me how to solve the puzzle, and I was like,
[15:49] Speaker 1: I'm literally I'm having zero issues right now, Like I
[15:53] Speaker 1: can tell you how I'm doing that literally yeah yeah, yeah, God.
[15:59] Speaker 3: Forbid, I catch a b I've inside this puzzle room.
[16:01] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, like haut I know God, and I was
[16:05] Speaker 1: mad because I ended up finishing like early. I was like,
[16:08] Speaker 1: you were rushing me for no reason.
[16:10] Speaker 3: But they were telling me that they have these strikingly
[16:13] Speaker 3: diegetic ways of introducing that where one of the examples
[16:17] Speaker 3: they showed was there was a puzzle that I was
[16:19] Speaker 3: trying to solve, or that they were trying to solve
[16:22] Speaker 3: using different sliding things that would ultimately form an image,
[16:26] Speaker 3: and they said, you know, there's an option to basically
[16:29] Speaker 3: ask your cop friend Fay for a picture that she
[16:33] Speaker 3: had taken of said image. And they were saying, depending
[16:37] Speaker 3: on choices made earlier, that image could come from somewhere
[16:39] Speaker 3: else or something like that, we actually have different ways
[16:41] Speaker 3: of introducing this hint in order to kind of make
[16:44] Speaker 3: it fit diegetically. And I thought that was really novel.
[16:48] Speaker 3: I really dug that. A lot of it feels like
[16:52] Speaker 3: there's a lot of thought going into how they approach what,
[16:57] Speaker 3: you know, a quote unquote Telltale style adventure came it
[17:00] Speaker 3: because we have seen so much iteration on that genre
[17:04] Speaker 3: over the years, as both the original Telltale works and
[17:08] Speaker 3: similar works have kind of tackled the what I would
[17:12] Speaker 3: call the new adventure game. The three D walk around
[17:16] Speaker 3: adventure game, and it really does feel like they're trying
[17:18] Speaker 3: to do something that feels like it is both rekindling
[17:22] Speaker 3: a lot of that old magic while trying to move
[17:26] Speaker 3: it up to modern standards. And I'm very surprised by
[17:29] Speaker 3: One of the coolest things they told me was that
[17:30] Speaker 3: they built a custom renderer for Unreal to try and
[17:33] Speaker 3: mimic as much of the original art style of Yeah,
[17:36] Speaker 3: there's some really cool stuff in there that you can
[17:38] Speaker 3: check out on our article on gamefore dot com for more.
[17:41] Speaker 3: But there they did some really really cool stuff to
[17:44] Speaker 3: make that all work. They would not tell me if
[17:48] Speaker 3: any choices from The Wolf among Us one would carry
[17:51] Speaker 3: over into The Wolf among Us two, though the most
[17:54] Speaker 3: I got was maybe and stay tuned, so we will see.
[18:00] Speaker 1: But if I'm thinking maybe, we might still be figuring
[18:02] Speaker 1: this out.
[18:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, the fact that they are making the remastered version,
[18:07] Speaker 3: which I believe is coming out this October, it makes
[18:11] Speaker 3: me think that it might be tied to that. But
[18:14] Speaker 3: that is that is my spectaculation, that's my speculation. That's night.
[18:18] Speaker 1: But yes, cool, Yeah, Marcus, what do you want to
[18:21] Speaker 1: talk about game ones?
[18:22] Speaker 2: You know what I'm gonna be first and foremost, I
[18:25] Speaker 2: just noticed that my sunglasses that I thought were missing
[18:27] Speaker 2: are actually right in front of me, just off camera
[18:29] Speaker 2: and the table. So that makes me very happy I
[18:31] Speaker 2: did that.
[18:31] Speaker 1: Would you like to put them on? Would that make
[18:33] Speaker 1: you feel better?
[18:34] Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing, because I'm gonna go in a
[18:38] Speaker 2: cool guy mode here because.
[18:39] Speaker 1: I'm going to play. Somebody needs to do the game I'm.
[18:41] Speaker 2: Going to talk about. Technically, I did not play it
[18:43] Speaker 2: s GF. I played before SGF, which many people didn't
[18:48] Speaker 2: get to do.
[18:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, cool games before s g I don't want to.
[18:54] Speaker 2: I don't wanna somebody plays video games.
[18:56] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:58] Speaker 2: But speaking of Anna Perna, I actually to go to
[19:01] Speaker 2: Annapurna's like headquarters in La like theyre where their film studio,
[19:06] Speaker 2: I guess is based, to go check out an like
[19:09] Speaker 2: a big event for Control Resonance about an hour. I
[19:14] Speaker 2: actually more an hour. I think like two hours of
[19:17] Speaker 2: Control Resident from like the very beginning of the game
[19:20] Speaker 2: to a section a few chapters in the Control Resident
[19:25] Speaker 2: was at SGF, But when I was talking to people
[19:26] Speaker 2: that played it sounds like they stopped right before the
[19:28] Speaker 2: second half that I got to continue at this event.
[19:31] Speaker 2: But I'm a huge fan of Control. I think that
[19:35] Speaker 2: first game is incredible. It's one of my favorite worlds
[19:38] Speaker 2: I've ever been in. Like, I just love everything about
[19:41] Speaker 2: that game. And when I saw the sequel one, I'm
[19:44] Speaker 2: exciting sequel. But also the sort of like character action
[19:47] Speaker 2: direction that they're going in speaks to me because I'm
[19:50] Speaker 2: a huge like stylist action like domic cry ban, I
[19:53] Speaker 2: don't give me all that stuff. I love it. So
[19:55] Speaker 2: I was really curious to see how Remedy woul nailed
[19:57] Speaker 2: at because that is not the kind of games that
[19:59] Speaker 2: they make. They pretty much just the third person shooters.
[20:02] Speaker 2: Really think of it between Max Kaine. Well, and there
[20:05] Speaker 2: was Crossfire, but I mean that's a shooter.
[20:08] Speaker 3: See.
[20:08] Speaker 1: By the way, I just thought that new Crossfire game
[20:10] Speaker 1: from That's no Moon.
[20:11] Speaker 2: I mean I can talk about that too because you
[20:14] Speaker 2: saw that too. That was my first event.
[20:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think we need them.
[20:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, but yes for Control. So, uh, long story short,
[20:24] Speaker 2: the game is awesome so far. Yeah, like, uh, Dylan Faden,
[20:30] Speaker 2: the character in that game, he controls incredibly well. The
[20:35] Speaker 2: action in that game again for being Remedy's first stab
[20:38] Speaker 2: at that style of action game, I'm not going to
[20:40] Speaker 2: say it matches the kind of like action game Nirvana
[20:43] Speaker 2: of like the best of DMC or being at UP,
[20:46] Speaker 2: but it's not terribly far off, which is still a
[20:49] Speaker 2: great mark to hit for your first time out. The
[20:53] Speaker 2: combats a lot deeper than I maybe expected it to
[20:57] Speaker 2: be because the weapon that you have the apparant which
[20:59] Speaker 2: is kind of the transforming like pretty much it's like
[21:02] Speaker 2: Jesse's the surface weapon in the first game, whereas transforming gun,
[21:05] Speaker 2: he just has like a transforming like metal rod that
[21:07] Speaker 2: can turn into like a scythe or a whip or
[21:11] Speaker 2: whatever he wills it to be basically, but each transformation
[21:14] Speaker 2: kind of offers a different play style. Like when I
[21:17] Speaker 2: started the game, I had the one handed acts, which
[21:19] Speaker 2: was kind of the more balance in terms of like
[21:21] Speaker 2: the speed of attacks, but it also had at least
[21:23] Speaker 2: would have described as robust combo potentials. But you're using
[21:27] Speaker 2: your standard melee weapon, but you also have a sidearm,
[21:30] Speaker 2: which is basically like a sub transformation that you can use,
[21:33] Speaker 2: so you actually can turn it into like a whip
[21:36] Speaker 2: or you can turn it into a big hammer for
[21:38] Speaker 2: like heavy swings. But then also Dylan has superpowers because
[21:41] Speaker 2: he's super powerful, and that's why he was locked away
[21:45] Speaker 2: in the FBC headquarters for so long, so he can
[21:48] Speaker 2: at least then the demo I had, he could kind
[21:50] Speaker 2: of like summon a bunch of rubble around him shield.
[21:54] Speaker 2: That was felt really cool to like block attack Suddenly.
[21:58] Speaker 2: Is he an earth bender? Is that what we're talking about?
[22:00] Speaker 2: He pretty he does do a lot of earth bending
[22:02] Speaker 2: because he has another ability where he just like kind
[22:05] Speaker 2: of wills earth in the ground and just like oos
[22:07] Speaker 2: it at people.
[22:09] Speaker 1: I Okay, don't hate me. I I've only watched like
[22:14] Speaker 1: a few episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender.
[22:16] Speaker 3: You can't hate me for my turtle takes anymore like that.
[22:19] Speaker 2: I yes, I think that's more offensive than not. Yeah,
[22:22] Speaker 2: because I'm in different towards nature turtles in.
[22:26] Speaker 1: I will say I have enjoyed what I watched that show, Okay,
[22:30] Speaker 1: because there has been a Turtles show for every gy
[22:33] Speaker 1: I made it to the Fire Temple.
[22:36] Speaker 2: That's like the Fire the Fire Nation Fire.
[22:40] Speaker 1: No.
[22:40] Speaker 3: No, there's there's a part at the beginning specific episode.
[22:43] Speaker 2: There's there's a.
[22:44] Speaker 3: Part at the beginning of the first season where they
[22:46] Speaker 3: go to uh a fire temple during I think it's
[22:49] Speaker 3: like one of the equinoxes or something. Yeah, he can
[22:52] Speaker 3: only talk to him one of his past selves. I
[22:55] Speaker 3: swear I'm not this into Avatar. I just recently rewatched
[22:58] Speaker 3: this series and so I know whatpisode Alex talking about.
[23:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's why I stopped. I was like, this
[23:03] Speaker 1: is great, can't wait to watch more, and then I
[23:05] Speaker 1: got busy. But my point being, I always thought the
[23:09] Speaker 1: Earthbenders are awesome. O.
[23:11] Speaker 3: The Earthbenders are the cool.
[23:12] Speaker 1: Like back in City of Heroes, back in the day,
[23:14] Speaker 1: I would play an Earth controller when you like like
[23:18] Speaker 1: some of like rock tombs and stuff around people and
[23:21] Speaker 1: like that. I love that kind of fantasy. Like, uh,
[23:24] Speaker 1: even as a kid, when like I was outside of
[23:26] Speaker 1: my friends and we were like, well I'm going to
[23:27] Speaker 1: control water, I'm a control fire. I would be the
[23:29] Speaker 1: Earth guy.
[23:30] Speaker 2: So I'm like your Kwame and Captain Planet.
[23:32] Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. Yeah. So it sounds like this is up
[23:35] Speaker 1: my alley.
[23:36] Speaker 2: And if you want to see the best of Earthbending
[23:37] Speaker 2: watching the live action Avatar movie.
[23:39] Speaker 1: Uh.
[23:40] Speaker 2: Anyways, the uh Dylan has these kind of like three
[23:45] Speaker 2: kind of like core tiers of abilities that you're mixing
[23:48] Speaker 2: and matching between. You can switch between them when you
[23:52] Speaker 2: go to a. It's basically this game's version of the
[23:55] Speaker 2: Mind Palace more or less from All and Way two. Okay,
[23:57] Speaker 2: it's called the Gap. You can access it anytime. It's
[24:00] Speaker 2: basically the space where you can change out your loadouts,
[24:02] Speaker 2: you can upgrade your ability trees. There's even a training
[24:04] Speaker 2: room if you want to kind of test your load
[24:06] Speaker 2: out see if it does what you want to do.
[24:08] Speaker 2: But just the myriad of combinations that are available is
[24:11] Speaker 2: pretty impressive. And also the game kind of encourages you
[24:15] Speaker 2: to not stick with anything because certain enemies have vulnerabilities.
[24:17] Speaker 2: Are like, oh, these guys can really only take damage
[24:20] Speaker 2: to like blunt weapons like a hammer, and like, oh
[24:22] Speaker 2: I don't have a hammer right now, so you could
[24:23] Speaker 2: still kill them, it's just gonna be harder. So you
[24:25] Speaker 2: might be like, maybe I'll bring a hammer for this section.
[24:27] Speaker 2: I don't know, that'll be my excuse to play it.
[24:30] Speaker 2: But like the actions good. The sort of like more
[24:34] Speaker 2: open area of New York looks awesome because you know,
[24:37] Speaker 2: the HSS have escaped and they have pretty much turned
[24:40] Speaker 2: New York into this like warped, nightmarish version of itself.
[24:44] Speaker 2: For like streets are suddenly taking like ninety degree plunges,
[24:50] Speaker 2: Like there's tons of just citizens floating in the sky
[24:53] Speaker 2: like they were in the float in the Oldest House
[24:55] Speaker 2: and in the first game.
[24:56] Speaker 3: Wait, when are you gonna start describing the part of
[24:58] Speaker 3: New York that is in like New York that all
[25:00] Speaker 3: sounds about right that though, yeah, yeah.
[25:05] Speaker 2: But one of the coolest ones. I don't know why
[25:07] Speaker 2: it has popped me, but like there's a section when
[25:09] Speaker 2: you early on where you just see a flock of
[25:12] Speaker 2: birds and they're just like suspended and animation and they
[25:16] Speaker 2: keep flickering in and out of existence. Like it kind
[25:19] Speaker 2: of reminded me of Spider Verse, like the Parker was
[25:22] Speaker 2: like glitching out and stuff. So like, visually it looks awesome,
[25:28] Speaker 2: but it's like like the uh, the action's great. It's challenging,
[25:33] Speaker 2: but it isn't. I wouldn't say it's like maybe like
[25:36] Speaker 2: deble may Cry challenging, but it does get pretty tough.
[25:39] Speaker 2: I fought one boss.
[25:41] Speaker 1: Uh.
[25:42] Speaker 2: I think they've shown the trailer's a kind of like
[25:44] Speaker 2: hiss that just looks like a giant woman's head with
[25:46] Speaker 2: her jaw missing and her hair is kind of like
[25:49] Speaker 2: snake like and she's like throwing all kinds of stuff
[25:53] Speaker 2: at you, Like she just looks really freaky and she's
[25:55] Speaker 2: like like just roaming around all over the map, but
[25:59] Speaker 2: she has a fun fight. And there were sections later
[26:01] Speaker 2: on where you're like going through like this kaleidoscopic it's
[26:04] Speaker 2: like apartment Like it's like it used to be an
[26:06] Speaker 2: apartment building, but it's just now this series of like
[26:09] Speaker 2: repeating floors and you're going room to room and you
[26:13] Speaker 2: can walk on the walls, you can walk in the ceiling,
[26:16] Speaker 2: and you're getting in the fights there and you're having
[26:18] Speaker 2: to jump between the walls and the ceiling, and reminded
[26:21] Speaker 2: me a lot of the hotel scene and Inception Mmmm
[26:24] Speaker 2: in a way. I was like, this is really cool.
[26:27] Speaker 2: So I'm so excited to see just now that they
[26:30] Speaker 2: have a bigger playground to play with with Manhattan or
[26:33] Speaker 2: I don't know if it extends beyond Manhattan, but regardless,
[26:36] Speaker 2: I think that there's a lot of like potential for
[26:38] Speaker 2: a really cool level design and uh sort of environmental
[26:42] Speaker 2: tricks cool top of just how good the action is.
[26:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, really really quick because we need to kind of
[26:48] Speaker 1: get onto our other segments, cross Fire, the whole thing.
[26:52] Speaker 1: I think the coolest thing, the coolest thing to me
[26:55] Speaker 1: was like that that it seemed like they're doing something
[26:57] Speaker 1: cool with the cover, the way they were moving between.
[27:00] Speaker 2: Yeah. So the first event I went to was visiting
[27:03] Speaker 2: vatsnow Moon's development studio, their team of veteran developers here
[27:08] Speaker 2: in Los Angeles. Actually their studio. Apparently they ever given
[27:12] Speaker 2: us a tour. It used to be the motion capture
[27:15] Speaker 2: studio that Naughty Dog used for all the Uncharted games. Interesting,
[27:19] Speaker 2: and they're using that studio for all their motion capture
[27:21] Speaker 2: for this game. But yeah, Crossfire. So it's a reimagining
[27:25] Speaker 2: of the Crossfire like multiplayer game like apparently Smilegate, the
[27:32] Speaker 2: IP holder and developer of the OG game, basically gave
[27:34] Speaker 2: their blessing to say you can do whatever you want.
[27:37] Speaker 2: So they're telling a single player, no multiplayer whatsoever, like
[27:43] Speaker 2: story driven, cinematic just campaign about these two soldiers, one
[27:50] Speaker 2: of which is played by an actress from the Boys
[27:55] Speaker 2: whose name I forget. She plays a character named like
[27:58] Speaker 2: Victoria bag guy. I've never seen the Boys. Oh, yes, soon,
[28:01] Speaker 2: it's Claudia do.
[28:05] Speaker 3: The Yeah. I don't want to say who it is
[28:07] Speaker 3: because it's really easy to spoil, but yes, I know
[28:09] Speaker 3: what you're talking about.
[28:09] Speaker 2: Okay, but yeah, she plays a character nam Leila in
[28:13] Speaker 2: a game. She's the actual playable protagonist. The other character
[28:17] Speaker 2: is a soldier named Delroy I believe, who's also played
[28:21] Speaker 2: by another actor named Ricky Whittle, who I believes is
[28:26] Speaker 2: I think the only credit they gave is like, he's
[28:27] Speaker 2: in American Gods. But the idea is like the there's
[28:30] Speaker 2: the two soldiers that are diametrically opposed to each other
[28:33] Speaker 2: because they have just completely different beliefs, like Leyla apparently
[28:37] Speaker 2: is very much like, hey, I believe in change and
[28:40] Speaker 2: being progressive, and the other guy's like, no, I don't
[28:45] Speaker 2: like that. I like status quo things should say the same.
[28:48] Speaker 2: I don't know where they'll go with that. They didn't
[28:49] Speaker 2: really a man exactly. They didn't really in context for
[28:54] Speaker 2: like what they actually believe and sort of like what
[28:56] Speaker 2: do they apply to those beliefs to They just got
[28:59] Speaker 2: like kind of keeping that the vest so on the surface,
[29:02] Speaker 2: I'm like, Okay, that's kind of lame, but also I
[29:04] Speaker 2: don't know what let's see what the how that plays
[29:08] Speaker 2: into the story. But they kind of get forced to
[29:11] Speaker 2: work together because there's some sort of strange threat that
[29:15] Speaker 2: has fallen on Earth something that is clearly like not
[29:18] Speaker 2: human because despite looking like an average military shooter, they
[29:22] Speaker 2: say that this is actually a sci fi game, but
[29:25] Speaker 2: it's drownded sci fi, so, like I believe in the
[29:28] Speaker 2: trailer they showed this, but we got to watch a
[29:31] Speaker 2: love gameplay demonstration where Delroy, who was an AI controlled
[29:34] Speaker 2: companion but he's with you the whole game. He has
[29:37] Speaker 2: like a cloaking ability so he can kind of he
[29:39] Speaker 2: has like some sort of tech where he just goes
[29:40] Speaker 2: full like world combat reptile and can like sneak around.
[29:44] Speaker 2: I did not see leyla use this, so I'm not
[29:46] Speaker 2: sure if she can do it or if the demo
[29:48] Speaker 2: or just didn't do it. But yeah, you have kind
[29:52] Speaker 2: of a mix of like conventional weapons and like weird
[29:56] Speaker 2: tech like that.
[29:56] Speaker 1: It was like a ghost recon future soldier or something.
[30:00] Speaker 3: Would believe neither one of you are saying ghosts in
[30:02] Speaker 3: the shell. This is messed up. This is it's a
[30:06] Speaker 3: ghosts in the shell. They're doing ghosts in the shell. Yeah,
[30:09] Speaker 3: we'll go with that ghost in the shell, but it's
[30:12] Speaker 3: literally a story about a character.
[30:15] Speaker 2: Was like, I don't operative.
[30:18] Speaker 1: I told you, I told you, I don't like horror.
[30:21] Speaker 1: I don't do ghosts.
[30:22] Speaker 3: I gotta leave. That's the flight tomorrow.
[30:28] Speaker 2: But so yeah, to your point, they're the centerpiece feature
[30:32] Speaker 2: for this game is this system called a dactive cover
[30:35] Speaker 2: where their big pitch for this is basically, we want
[30:37] Speaker 2: to evolve the cover based shooter because for so long,
[30:42] Speaker 2: taking covering games meant hiding behind an obvious box.
[30:45] Speaker 1: It's the Gears of War, you know. Yeah, we're still
[30:47] Speaker 1: doing it two decades later.
[30:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, you go in the room, you clearly know where
[30:51] Speaker 2: you can hide where they wanted the They because this
[30:54] Speaker 2: game is built in on refined that are like, oh,
[30:56] Speaker 2: using that tech, it much has the ability to create
[31:00] Speaker 2: like natural geometry, like if you like they demoed it
[31:04] Speaker 2: was kind of like in a canyon which has a
[31:05] Speaker 2: bunch of like rocks and boulders laying around naturally, And
[31:08] Speaker 2: they're like, oh, basically we can have it so that
[31:10] Speaker 2: the characters can automatically they're animated away with the organically morph.
[31:16] Speaker 1: To the mesh.
[31:18] Speaker 2: And in a way that makes sense and basically is
[31:22] Speaker 2: the way a real person would if you were taking
[31:24] Speaker 2: cover basically using whatever was around you.
[31:27] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[31:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, so they showed us like a gray box sort
[31:30] Speaker 2: of like a wireframe breakdown of this that kind of
[31:34] Speaker 2: helped sell or explain what the tech did. But yeah,
[31:38] Speaker 2: it looks cool. Like just seeing the character just move
[31:43] Speaker 2: and crawl through the rocks the way a real person
[31:45] Speaker 2: would it was pretty impressive just animation wise. And again
[31:48] Speaker 2: it makes the firefights more interesting because you go into
[31:51] Speaker 2: an area, it's not always clear where you can hide,
[31:53] Speaker 2: but you just take whatever you think will hide you
[31:56] Speaker 2: best and provide some sort of advantage in terms of
[31:59] Speaker 2: like okay, can I show them but they can't shoot me?
[32:02] Speaker 2: But I kind of I like the thought behind that.
[32:04] Speaker 2: Because this game is a stealth forward game. They are
[32:07] Speaker 2: very clear that like it's very easy to die. You
[32:09] Speaker 2: take a few shots and you're down. They're trying to
[32:11] Speaker 2: like like realistic lethality, and ideally you want to sneak
[32:15] Speaker 2: up on people or flank them instead of just outright
[32:18] Speaker 2: getting into firefights. You can do that. It's just gonna
[32:20] Speaker 2: be really hard. But between that and having a stamina
[32:23] Speaker 2: meter that you have to manage for, you don't really
[32:25] Speaker 2: see him shooters very often. Yeah, and also you have
[32:29] Speaker 2: like armored that you can equit, but it can shatter
[32:32] Speaker 2: when it takes too much damage, and the sound, as
[32:35] Speaker 2: I would say, it was really good. Like the bullets.
[32:37] Speaker 2: Every bullet felt impactful, every gun shot felt impactful. The
[32:41] Speaker 2: game looks really nice, just fidelity wise, like I think
[32:44] Speaker 2: the I was worried about this at the time, and
[32:47] Speaker 2: then my fear was confirmed. We're like, I don't think
[32:49] Speaker 2: the Summer Games Fest trailer really sold what that game's
[32:53] Speaker 2: actually trying to do because it's kind of just hard
[32:56] Speaker 2: to convey through like a cinematic trailer like you would
[32:58] Speaker 2: mee the devs go out there and explain like, hey,
[33:00] Speaker 2: actually here's how this works.
[33:02] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[33:03] Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm I'm like interested in that game. I
[33:07] Speaker 2: need to see more of it. I'm curious more about
[33:09] Speaker 2: the story stuff and how the characterization evolves. But the
[33:13] Speaker 2: tech behind it seems really cool, awesome.
[33:15] Speaker 1: I'm right there with you. Well, we've got a full show,
[33:19] Speaker 1: so we're gonna toss it over. Eric is gonna get
[33:22] Speaker 1: in the hot seat and host what. We've got a
[33:26] Speaker 1: swath of excellent guests to many grade show sat a
[33:30] Speaker 1: swath yes, Allegian.
[33:32] Speaker 3: Allegian, Yes, michadro a school.
[33:35] Speaker 1: Well, thank you everybody for watching, and we hope that
[33:39] Speaker 1: you enjoyed the rest of the podcast. All right, we'll
[33:43] Speaker 1: bear back right after this.
[33:52] Speaker 3: Welcome back to the Game Informer Show Here at the
[33:54] Speaker 3: Game Informer SGF studio, brought to you powered by Road.
[33:58] Speaker 3: Thank you Road for the awesome boom arms and mics
[34:00] Speaker 3: and stuff that we have powering our studio here at
[34:03] Speaker 3: Summer Game Fest twenty twenty six, and here to talk
[34:05] Speaker 3: about the state of things, the games, the fest, the everything,
[34:10] Speaker 3: and the Jeff. We have an excellent panel of wonderful
[34:14] Speaker 3: guest here to discuss all our thoughts about Summer Game
[34:16] Speaker 3: Fest so far. We're actually recording this on the Sunday,
[34:19] Speaker 3: so we have not experienced all of what summer game
[34:21] Speaker 3: fests may hold for us. But I feel like we
[34:24] Speaker 3: can get a good idea so far, starting on my
[34:28] Speaker 3: closest side here, John Cars.
[34:29] Speaker 7: Hello, Hey, it's day two. It is day feels like
[34:34] Speaker 7: it's day thirty. It's been a long arduous SGF, so.
[34:39] Speaker 3: We always call it like day minus one, day zero,
[34:44] Speaker 3: and it always feels like a misnomer because day two
[34:46] Speaker 3: really does feel like you've already run half the marathon.
[34:49] Speaker 7: I thought I'd be good today and then it's like
[34:52] Speaker 7: I've had two red bulls. In the last couple of
[34:54] Speaker 7: hours and I'm like barely up to.
[34:56] Speaker 3: Two Red Bulls. Yeah, okay, so we'll need the cardiac
[35:00] Speaker 3: It powered by Road all stand by. Yeah, no, they don't,
[35:06] Speaker 3: they don't. Miles, please introduce yourself for the folks at home.
[35:10] Speaker 6: Hello.
[35:10] Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm Miles of Ben's I'm a freelance writer. And yes,
[35:13] Speaker 8: my third SGF. Like you were saying, it's day two
[35:17] Speaker 8: but not. Actually, my first apployment was like Thursday morning
[35:21] Speaker 8: and I've just been NonStop ever since.
[35:23] Speaker 6: But yeah, happy to be here, Thanks for the invite.
[35:25] Speaker 3: And we've got Jason Shire. Jason, please introduce yourself for
[35:27] Speaker 3: the folks at home.
[35:28] Speaker 9: Well, you just did. I'm Jason Tryer YouTube personality Jason Tryer.
[35:34] Speaker 9: I have an issue. Well, I feel like we got
[35:37] Speaker 9: the game, we kind of got the fast, but it's
[35:40] Speaker 9: not summer. So it's like this.
[35:42] Speaker 2: Is I don't know what.
[35:45] Speaker 9: Sweat and game fest, like late spring game kind of fest. Sure,
[35:52] Speaker 9: late spring game event as I may call it.
[35:56] Speaker 3: I guess it was. It was sweltering. I almost burned
[35:58] Speaker 3: the other day at Summer game.
[36:00] Speaker 9: Fest is just like a festival.
[36:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so just just started all off like How
[36:08] Speaker 3: are we feeling about Summer game Fest this year? This
[36:10] Speaker 3: is what the fifth year I believe of Summer Game
[36:13] Speaker 3: Fest total and alex fan Aikan waters into this spen
[36:19] Speaker 3: for a chair and it kind of feels like the
[36:23] Speaker 3: sentiment I've heard from people is that, okay, that maybe
[36:26] Speaker 3: the novelty has worn off. We are no longer in
[36:29] Speaker 3: the this is the new and we're trying to figure
[36:31] Speaker 3: out is this how we get kind of the legs
[36:33] Speaker 3: of the traditional summer apparatus under us because the games
[36:37] Speaker 3: industry loves to operate in its cycles, and we usually have,
[36:41] Speaker 3: now fully commanded by Jeff Keeley, we have the Winter
[36:45] Speaker 3: of Game Awards and the Summer of Game Fest. Jason,
[36:50] Speaker 3: how are you feeling about where things are at with
[36:52] Speaker 3: Summer Game Fest? Do you think like this is kind
[36:54] Speaker 3: of filling a gap that we needed filled right now?
[36:57] Speaker 9: Well, I guess it's always been there, right because it
[36:59] Speaker 9: was E three and then there was a tiny hiatus
[37:01] Speaker 9: maybe a year now. Actually Killy jumped in even when
[37:04] Speaker 9: E three was still going away. This one Summer games Best,
[37:07] Speaker 9: so it's always been here. It's interesting, I think from
[37:10] Speaker 9: a player perspective, it's a little more confusing than E
[37:14] Speaker 9: three was.
[37:15] Speaker 3: It's kind of.
[37:15] Speaker 9: A disparate collection of events. But from a media perspective,
[37:20] Speaker 9: it's actually a little bit better than E three in
[37:23] Speaker 9: a lot of ways because what E three traditionally was
[37:26] Speaker 9: a series of press conferences and media people would shepherd
[37:30] Speaker 9: around Los Angeles going to these press conferences, and then
[37:32] Speaker 9: afterwards you would go to the Los Angeles Convention Center,
[37:35] Speaker 9: which is right across the street from us, and you
[37:37] Speaker 9: would attend the show for which was packed full of
[37:39] Speaker 9: thousands of people. You had to kind of navigate the
[37:41] Speaker 9: seas of people and like add an extra fifteen minute
[37:44] Speaker 9: buffer to every appointment to just get through people and
[37:47] Speaker 9: get across all the holes. And it was a spectacle
[37:50] Speaker 9: and that had its advantages. But what we have now
[37:54] Speaker 9: is instead of that convention center portion, we have a
[37:58] Speaker 9: what's called play Days, which is a very small campus
[38:01] Speaker 9: that is much easier to navigate, much easier to get around,
[38:04] Speaker 9: much easier to have appointments for press. So in that way,
[38:07] Speaker 9: it's it's kind of better, I think from the fan perspective,
[38:11] Speaker 9: it's a little bit different from but from our perspective here,
[38:13] Speaker 9: it's kind of like a similar structure, but a better
[38:16] Speaker 9: media experience.
[38:18] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, these these details always feel granular and almost
[38:21] Speaker 3: maybe like inside baseball, but I think they end up
[38:24] Speaker 3: being illustrative of the shifts in the industry as well,
[38:27] Speaker 3: because E three was always a spectacle in and of itself, right,
[38:31] Speaker 3: there was kind of a huge industry gathering that would
[38:33] Speaker 3: bring in these giant booths, and there was almost an
[38:36] Speaker 3: air of like, you've got to be here. E three
[38:38] Speaker 3: is where it's happening, and SGF does feel a little
[38:40] Speaker 3: bit subdued by comparison. It's like the difference between a
[38:44] Speaker 3: massive tech industry convention and like a south By Southwest
[38:47] Speaker 3: where it kind of takes over the downtown of a city,
[38:49] Speaker 3: and we're not even there yet. We just have kind
[38:51] Speaker 3: of a tiny campus in LA and that's that's kind
[38:54] Speaker 3: of where, you know, the crux of it is outside
[38:56] Speaker 3: some outside events, but Miles like, like, what is your
[38:59] Speaker 3: takeaway been of this year's SGF. Do you feel like
[39:02] Speaker 3: it's it's a solid year. Do you feel like we
[39:04] Speaker 3: have a lot of stuff going on? Or yeah, So.
[39:06] Speaker 8: I'm actually like, relatively, I've only been doing this for
[39:09] Speaker 8: like five years, so I don't I can't compare this
[39:11] Speaker 8: to E three because I've never been My first E
[39:13] Speaker 8: three that I was approved for was the year it
[39:16] Speaker 8: actually got killed. Yeah, but no, like, yeah, this is
[39:23] Speaker 8: my third and like play days is cool, but it's
[39:27] Speaker 8: not the only thing happening. And so your your question was,
[39:30] Speaker 8: like where does it go from here? I think a
[39:33] Speaker 8: lot of UH studios have kind of figured out that
[39:37] Speaker 8: they might not always need to like work with Jeff
[39:39] Speaker 8: Keeley all the time, and they can just do the
[39:41] Speaker 8: stuff off off site completely related to just schedule stuff
[39:45] Speaker 8: around this time. That was what my appointment was on Thursday.
[39:47] Speaker 8: It was they know everyone's in town, but it's not related. Yeah,
[39:53] Speaker 8: I mean, I I'm still enjoying it. Again, I don't
[39:55] Speaker 8: have much to compare it to. You guys are gonna
[39:59] Speaker 8: have a lot more in site on that than Mesold. Uh, yes, no, no,
[40:05] Speaker 8: but I mean it's it's it's fun. I'm just glad
[40:08] Speaker 8: that like we still have stuff like this for us
[40:10] Speaker 8: to have work and then for dives to get their
[40:13] Speaker 8: games out in the world.
[40:14] Speaker 3: John. Any thoughts on on where SGF, like the size
[40:17] Speaker 3: of SGF is at right now.
[40:18] Speaker 7: Yeah, Like I've gone the last three years and it's
[40:23] Speaker 7: occupying the same space for the last three years. Yes,
[40:25] Speaker 7: there's like those outside like Xbox as their their thing outside.
[40:30] Speaker 7: There's only a couple of those events outside the wall
[40:33] Speaker 7: of the hollowed walls.
[40:34] Speaker 3: Of the floral walls.
[40:40] Speaker 7: I think it does need to grow a little bit more.
[40:43] Speaker 7: The one thing I missed from E three is having
[40:45] Speaker 7: a bunch of just like play kiosks, to just like
[40:48] Speaker 7: walk up and play a game.
[40:51] Speaker 3: Here.
[40:51] Speaker 7: It's very like you you need an appointment for something.
[40:54] Speaker 7: If you don't have that connection to something, like, you're
[40:57] Speaker 7: not going to be able to play that, Like I'm
[41:00] Speaker 7: not going to be able to play like Star Wars
[41:03] Speaker 7: Race or if I can. Yeah, So like there's there's
[41:08] Speaker 7: stuff that's there that I can't even access, even though
[41:12] Speaker 7: it's right there in front of me, and there's plenty
[41:14] Speaker 7: of machines there. But if I could just like walk
[41:17] Speaker 7: up and play something, I think that's what it's really
[41:20] Speaker 7: missing for attendees.
[41:23] Speaker 3: It's an interesting dynamic because like I've covered this thing
[41:25] Speaker 3: for sites and I've covered it as a freelancer, and
[41:29] Speaker 3: there is a kind of disparity, especially when there is
[41:32] Speaker 3: a limit to how many, you know, PlayStations you could
[41:35] Speaker 3: fit and not not like PlayStations but like actual places
[41:39] Speaker 3: you can play a game, how many you can put
[41:41] Speaker 3: in a room, how many people can afford to put
[41:43] Speaker 3: in a room. And that is one of the things
[41:46] Speaker 3: I think has been coming up a lot around SGF
[41:48] Speaker 3: is the question of cost. How much money it costs
[41:50] Speaker 3: to be here, how much manpower it costs to be here,
[41:53] Speaker 3: how much hardware it costs to be here. And I
[41:56] Speaker 3: think that is always kind of a concern for people
[42:00] Speaker 3: and for devs on on their side, is how much
[42:03] Speaker 3: is SGF worth it?
[42:04] Speaker 10: Uh?
[42:05] Speaker 3: Even for us on the media side, we ask ourselves,
[42:07] Speaker 3: you know, sending people out here, how much is that
[42:10] Speaker 3: worth it. I do still think that the summer game
[42:12] Speaker 3: Fest and and a lot of the content we end
[42:15] Speaker 3: up creating around it is really exciting, and we can
[42:17] Speaker 3: get some cool insight and stuff like that, but it
[42:22] Speaker 3: is just always this thing that feels caught somewhere between
[42:25] Speaker 3: where E three was and and I don't know, something
[42:29] Speaker 3: like a PAX or something like that. I've seen a
[42:31] Speaker 3: lot more creators around this year. I've seen a lot
[42:33] Speaker 3: more content creators influencers. Jason, do you feel like maybe
[42:37] Speaker 3: that's a are we seeing the specter of content creation
[42:41] Speaker 3: coming up? And and being like this is kind of
[42:44] Speaker 3: where the industry is going here.
[42:46] Speaker 9: Asking maybe because I'm a content creator.
[42:47] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and noted content creator.
[42:50] Speaker 9: First of all, you you when you're talking about the
[42:52] Speaker 9: space of PlayStations and have the play stations and have
[42:56] Speaker 9: me thinking that so much, make so much to make
[43:00] Speaker 9: theme park. But for Summer games Fest, where you have
[43:03] Speaker 9: to design your own video game convention and figure out
[43:06] Speaker 9: how many kiosks you can fit in, and then every
[43:08] Speaker 9: so often Jeff Keeley comes and takes a tribute from
[43:11] Speaker 9: you attack to be.
[43:13] Speaker 3: There, the sewing occurs, I think, I mean, I think
[43:19] Speaker 3: what you're seeing is more reflection of the state of
[43:21] Speaker 3: media than anything.
[43:23] Speaker 9: I mean, they are fewer and fewer outlets. Some of
[43:25] Speaker 9: many of those outlets have been eviscerated. I mean just
[43:29] Speaker 9: this time last year, I was having dinner with some
[43:34] Speaker 9: friends who were a Polygon and they are no longer
[43:36] Speaker 9: at Polygon. So it's that I think that the rise
[43:39] Speaker 9: of the tiktokors and the YouTubers, I think is more
[43:43] Speaker 9: a reflection of where the media space is than anything
[43:47] Speaker 9: on the money end. I mean, it's interesting. I think
[43:49] Speaker 9: that for game developers being in one of these showcases
[43:54] Speaker 9: can change their lives in a big way. It can
[43:56] Speaker 9: lead to metrics that they can then show two potential funders.
[44:01] Speaker 9: It can lead to obviously sales. It can lead to
[44:03] Speaker 9: a lot of things like if you guys, a good
[44:05] Speaker 9: example which is at the Game Awards in December of
[44:10] Speaker 9: twenty twenty four, So not quite summer game sets, but
[44:12] Speaker 9: winter game sests let's call it, or not even winter,
[44:15] Speaker 9: let's call it, or late Fall games.
[44:16] Speaker 3: Fest, late Spring games Fest. You're getting very specific about
[44:19] Speaker 3: the seasonality.
[44:20] Speaker 9: I just think I think we should be accurate with
[44:23] Speaker 9: our non inflate trees.
[44:24] Speaker 3: The Tumble Equinox Fest.
[44:26] Speaker 9: Exactly, the game war is. In twenty twenty four, the
[44:30] Speaker 9: people at ad Hoc Studio announced a game called Dispatch,
[44:33] Speaker 9: and at that point when they announced it, they did
[44:35] Speaker 9: not have funding secured for that game. They announced it
[44:38] Speaker 9: suddenly got this huge influx of attention and it helped
[44:41] Speaker 9: them get a deal that they wound up signing with
[44:43] Speaker 9: Critical Role and making sure that that all that they
[44:45] Speaker 9: were able to finish the game and had enough funding
[44:47] Speaker 9: to do it led to a massive success. So I
[44:51] Speaker 9: do think there is benefit to being in one of
[44:53] Speaker 9: these things and getting a lot of eyeballs on your game.
[44:56] Speaker 9: That said, one of the problems that I was kind
[44:58] Speaker 9: of hinting at early with this disparate nature of some
[45:02] Speaker 9: against us is that there are something like twenty showcases
[45:05] Speaker 9: and everybody has just kind of sprung up to be
[45:07] Speaker 9: like we have the showcase that is like about whatever,
[45:10] Speaker 9: Like every single genre has a showcase, and that risks
[45:15] Speaker 9: just kind of in the same way that having twenty
[45:17] Speaker 9: thousand games on theme every year is a problem. That
[45:19] Speaker 9: can be a problem too, because I don't know how
[45:21] Speaker 9: many eyeballs all those showcases are getting.
[45:24] Speaker 3: That's it.
[45:24] Speaker 9: I mean, it is good generally. I think to have
[45:28] Speaker 9: a nexus point like a weekend when a lot of
[45:31] Speaker 9: people are paying attention to games and gaming news, I
[45:34] Speaker 9: think that's good for everybody.
[45:36] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, the media can act as a filter function
[45:38] Speaker 3: in a lot of situations like this where we can
[45:40] Speaker 3: come in and do that in honor of that, let's
[45:43] Speaker 3: filter right now. And Carson, I'm curious to hear what
[45:46] Speaker 3: you've seen so far that you can talk about, which granted,
[45:49] Speaker 3: part of the thing about SGF is that there's many
[45:51] Speaker 3: embargoes at SGF. They love to show us things and
[45:55] Speaker 3: then say you can't talk about this for a little bit,
[45:57] Speaker 3: so within the bounds of what you can talk about
[46:01] Speaker 3: what has really struck you.
[46:03] Speaker 7: Yeah, thankfully this show goes up after some of those impartment.
[46:09] Speaker 3: After the time traveling here.
[46:12] Speaker 7: But yeah, like I saw like Stranger than Heaven earlier today,
[46:15] Speaker 7: and I think that was that's gonna be a very
[46:18] Speaker 7: interesting game, Like people are gonna talking about did not
[46:22] Speaker 7: see to Everybody's asked me if I fought Tupac in it,
[46:25] Speaker 7: and it's like I would have lost.
[46:28] Speaker 3: No.
[46:29] Speaker 7: I think that that game has like a very interesting
[46:31] Speaker 7: combat style and that's really what they focused on during
[46:34] Speaker 7: during that demo. That's gonna be maybe devisive a bit
[46:39] Speaker 7: because it's not as simple as Yakaza. It's no, it's
[46:44] Speaker 7: I don't know if you want me to dive into
[46:46] Speaker 7: this absolutely so combat in Stranger than Heaven. You're using
[46:52] Speaker 7: the bumpers and the triggers, and you have your working
[46:55] Speaker 7: the left side of your body in the right side
[46:57] Speaker 7: of your body.
[46:57] Speaker 3: Like very techn almost in that way.
[46:59] Speaker 9: Yeah.
[46:59] Speaker 7: Yeah, And it's not always like the bumpers are your
[47:03] Speaker 7: hands and the triggers are your legs. It's sometimes the
[47:07] Speaker 7: triggers are your legs and sometimes it's a more powerful attack.
[47:10] Speaker 7: You also have weapons that change how you're how you're
[47:15] Speaker 7: utilizing those buttons, but it's always left and right. The
[47:19] Speaker 7: interesting stuff that they do is when you have other
[47:22] Speaker 7: when you have enemies coming in and like grabbing you,
[47:25] Speaker 7: Like let's say they grab your right arm, you have
[47:27] Speaker 7: to use your left arm to like knock them off
[47:29] Speaker 7: of you, or just like find openings on people and
[47:34] Speaker 7: try to swing at them in the appropriate place. It's
[47:38] Speaker 7: probably needs a little bit of tuning. Still, it's very,
[47:40] Speaker 7: very hard, and kind of the thing I was having
[47:45] Speaker 7: trouble get wrapping my head around is I've played like
[47:48] Speaker 7: three third person action games during during the show, and
[47:52] Speaker 7: all of them have different like controller configurations, and so
[47:57] Speaker 7: I'm trying to like dodge with b but be's block
[48:01] Speaker 7: or like attack with certain buttons, and like really getting
[48:03] Speaker 7: your your mind around that within like a half hour
[48:06] Speaker 7: session is it's tough.
[48:08] Speaker 3: So I've been having that all week with UH. I'll
[48:12] Speaker 3: play something on an Xbox controller and I'll know where
[48:15] Speaker 3: X and Y are and I'll go demo something on
[48:17] Speaker 3: a switch Pro controller and mine nex are flipped and
[48:20] Speaker 3: it keeps happening over and over and over again, we
[48:22] Speaker 3: need to we need to standardize the button mappings across
[48:25] Speaker 3: the board. Stranger the Paradise, Yeah, it is a curious
[48:30] Speaker 3: thing because I feel like strangers a fantasy on the mind. Yeah, yeah,
[48:35] Speaker 3: Stranger of Paradise, Stranger than Heaven. Is an interesting thing
[48:38] Speaker 3: because I this does feel like a Yakuza adjacent game.
[48:43] Speaker 3: There's a lot of hinting that it is kind of
[48:45] Speaker 3: a Yakuza style, like like it is involved in the
[48:48] Speaker 3: yaka Is continuum.
[48:49] Speaker 2: Yep.
[48:50] Speaker 3: But uh yeah, there's just been so much stuff around
[48:52] Speaker 3: it from the showcases. I mean, the Tupac thing I
[48:56] Speaker 3: think is what kind of maybe tilted the cup a
[48:58] Speaker 3: little far in now water is pouring out where people
[49:02] Speaker 3: are going You really need to do that? Do you
[49:05] Speaker 3: have to do that? But but you're saying on the
[49:07] Speaker 3: game side, it does feel like it's it's coming together
[49:09] Speaker 3: the way you would expect.
[49:10] Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, it always it always looked like like playing
[49:14] Speaker 7: it was a little bit more complex than the Yakasi had.
[49:16] Speaker 7: Actually getting my hands on it, it absolutely is. It
[49:18] Speaker 7: takes them getting used to You really need to be
[49:20] Speaker 7: very deliberate. Was everything that you're doing just like mentally
[49:23] Speaker 7: not always.
[49:24] Speaker 3: The same as like you just kind of run around
[49:27] Speaker 3: and in spaccas like.
[49:27] Speaker 7: Yeah, dodge and stuff like you really need to consider
[49:32] Speaker 7: some things and you're when you're going into a.
[49:34] Speaker 3: Scuffle the miles what about you.
[49:37] Speaker 8: Yeah, it's interesting. This year is a lot more hands
[49:40] Speaker 8: off stuff than the last couple of years. So I've
[49:42] Speaker 8: seen a lot of presentations for like is it the
[49:46] Speaker 8: Lost Wild?
[49:47] Speaker 3: It's basically it's not the Lost World. It's not level.
[49:53] Speaker 8: Multiples, but it's basically but it's basically alien isolation with
[50:02] Speaker 8: dinosaurs and looks. But I didn't get to play it.
[50:04] Speaker 8: The same thing with Silent Hell Townfall. It was all
[50:08] Speaker 8: just like a half hour presentation where they just kind
[50:11] Speaker 8: of showed off like the first person like sneaking and
[50:14] Speaker 8: combat and you have this like CRT radio that it's
[50:17] Speaker 8: kind of like the main gay play mechanic where you
[50:19] Speaker 8: you scan it and then you look. It's like your compass,
[50:22] Speaker 8: I guess, but if we're talking hands on, I did
[50:26] Speaker 8: play it about an hour with Tony Musha Weigh the
[50:29] Speaker 8: Sword with You.
[50:30] Speaker 6: Actually it was very good.
[50:32] Speaker 8: So the second time I played it, I believe the
[50:36] Speaker 8: demo that's out publicly was the one we played at packs. Yes,
[50:40] Speaker 8: this last Yeah, this one is a new boss fight
[50:43] Speaker 8: is pretty challenging. It's like this creepy like face hand
[50:47] Speaker 8: guy you yeah, yeah.
[50:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like a demon.
[50:50] Speaker 7: That's uh, the whole the whole thing is this town
[50:54] Speaker 7: has a god that is granting people what they want,
[50:58] Speaker 7: but at a cost. So I there's a lady who
[51:01] Speaker 7: doesn't want to play her instrument anymore, so he takes
[51:04] Speaker 7: her fingers. Yeah it's creepy, so she doesn't have to
[51:07] Speaker 7: play her instrument.
[51:09] Speaker 3: How would she want it? Yeah, you gotta be careful
[51:11] Speaker 3: about how you were these things.
[51:14] Speaker 8: But the fight itself is interesting, Like it's not just
[51:16] Speaker 8: like dodge perry and deflect your attacks that, Like there's
[51:20] Speaker 8: more mechanics involved. So there's all of that. But then
[51:23] Speaker 8: he's tethered to this like you know fountain thing you
[51:26] Speaker 8: can attach or sorry, you can attack that and break
[51:29] Speaker 8: it to where he's like weaker and he doesn't hit
[51:31] Speaker 8: his hard. Yeah, it's challenging. It's not like souls like
[51:36] Speaker 8: hard where like I mean it it is, but the
[51:39] Speaker 8: checkpoints are pretty forgiving compared to.
[51:42] Speaker 6: Stuff like that.
[51:43] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, and for.
[51:44] Speaker 8: Someone like me who's not good at stuff like that,
[51:47] Speaker 8: it's it's it's nice to be able to play it
[51:49] Speaker 8: die and just start right right back over. It took
[51:51] Speaker 8: me five tries beat it and then like it was interesting.
[51:55] Speaker 8: We we were talking about this earlier. The voice acting
[51:58] Speaker 8: was kind of rough if you play in English, but
[52:02] Speaker 8: the duds are good.
[52:04] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I enjoyed it a lot.
[52:06] Speaker 7: That gave us a lot of like combat options, like
[52:09] Speaker 7: you're like your Perry's and your blocks like do different things,
[52:13] Speaker 7: but they can kind of result in similar outcomes for
[52:17] Speaker 7: what you want them to. And there's this like excessive
[52:21] Speaker 7: ability option to like have the button prompt on screen,
[52:24] Speaker 7: but it's kind of sure misleading because it's not a QTE.
[52:29] Speaker 7: It's just like you should hit this button, but it
[52:30] Speaker 7: doesn't tell you the time you can turn that off.
[52:33] Speaker 7: Because I found it kind of uh yeah, pretty distracting.
[52:36] Speaker 7: It can be, ye, would you think of it, Jason?
[52:40] Speaker 9: I thought it was cool, definitely hard. I died more
[52:44] Speaker 9: than five times. I won't say it's embarrassing. I don't
[52:48] Speaker 9: want to say on film that.
[52:51] Speaker 3: We each get like a number above our heads it's
[52:53] Speaker 3: like how many times we.
[52:53] Speaker 9: Died, because it's like I feel like, I mean, I
[52:58] Speaker 9: played all of Veldering. I beat everybody in that game.
[53:00] Speaker 9: I feel like I'm decent at these games. And then
[53:02] Speaker 9: I'm standing there and these cap Gun people were watching
[53:04] Speaker 9: me and just laughing.
[53:05] Speaker 6: There's a lot of pressure when they're just staring at you.
[53:07] Speaker 7: Yeah, they're laughing with you, Jason, They're laughing with me.
[53:10] Speaker 9: Yeah. But I'm looking forward to that game. It's funny
[53:14] Speaker 9: that you guys are catching me the day before most
[53:17] Speaker 9: of my hands on appointments tomorrow, like doing the day
[53:19] Speaker 9: of stuff. But I'll give a shout out to two
[53:21] Speaker 9: indie games that I really enjoyed this week and so far.
[53:24] Speaker 9: One it's called Bad Magpie and it is the bird
[53:27] Speaker 9: game that was announced that Xbox from an indie game
[53:30] Speaker 9: studio called Milk Tooth. It's kind of like untitled Goose game,
[53:34] Speaker 9: but like a little bit easier, a little bit more
[53:36] Speaker 9: kind of friendly on the controls and until Goose game,
[53:40] Speaker 9: but still a fun little rockus go you'reless little pigeon
[53:43] Speaker 9: that is causing all sorts of or I guess Magpie
[53:45] Speaker 9: that is called any May that is causing all sorts
[53:49] Speaker 9: of ruckous in this little town collecting gems. And then
[53:53] Speaker 9: the other game that I really enjoyed is called slap
[53:57] Speaker 9: slap out of it. I believe it's.
[53:59] Speaker 7: That's what I was talking with bretet Groom about that,
[54:01] Speaker 7: and that looks awesome.
[54:02] Speaker 9: Very cool game. It's it's a puzzle game. It's got
[54:06] Speaker 9: an art style that's very reminiscent of bug Snacks, these
[54:10] Speaker 9: kind of deformed cartoon characters, and it is essentially a
[54:14] Speaker 9: series of almost like Escape Room esque puzzles, adventure game puzzles.
[54:19] Speaker 9: But there's this core mechanic where your arms extend and
[54:23] Speaker 9: slap things, and everything in the game can be slapped.
[54:26] Speaker 9: Every character in the game can be slapped, and you
[54:28] Speaker 9: can just use your arms to interact with the world
[54:30] Speaker 9: in these hilarious ways. It's extremely fun. They've designed the
[54:33] Speaker 9: physics in a way that makes it very satisfying to
[54:36] Speaker 9: just slap everything you see.
[54:38] Speaker 3: Like what kind of like a slap I feel is
[54:40] Speaker 3: in two parts, because there's the initial smack, but then
[54:44] Speaker 3: there's like the reverb that comes afterwards, so they get
[54:46] Speaker 3: the good reverbs, so it has that big like yes.
[54:48] Speaker 9: And think of it in terms of objects, so you're
[54:51] Speaker 9: not like leaving marks on people's faces. It's more that
[54:55] Speaker 9: like you'll see you'll see a I don't know a
[54:59] Speaker 9: trash bin, and so you can reach out in your
[55:01] Speaker 9: hand extends like twenty feet and slaps the trash.
[55:03] Speaker 3: Man and then it ruffles and things come out.
[55:05] Speaker 9: Yeah, and you're using and you press the triggers to
[55:08] Speaker 9: control your two arms, so you can do both arms,
[55:10] Speaker 9: and then you're using this to solve all sorts of puzzles,
[55:12] Speaker 9: and some of them are clever and fun, and I'm
[55:15] Speaker 9: very excited for the real thing that game. Believe. I
[55:18] Speaker 9: believe both of those games I just mentioned come out
[55:20] Speaker 9: next year.
[55:21] Speaker 3: Those sound they sound great. The indies have been really
[55:24] Speaker 3: surprising me. I spend some time in a particular booth
[55:28] Speaker 3: earlier playing a bunch of them. And one that really
[55:30] Speaker 3: stuck out to me that I did not I mean
[55:33] Speaker 3: obviously didn't see coming at all when it was announced,
[55:35] Speaker 3: and also I didn't expect to get me as much
[55:38] Speaker 3: as it did is the among Us single player game
[55:43] Speaker 3: among Us Story, where it's a single player murder mystery
[55:50] Speaker 3: where you're kind of set up. There's a framing device
[55:52] Speaker 3: we don't need to go too far into, but basically,
[55:54] Speaker 3: in the section I played, you're playing as a guard
[55:57] Speaker 3: character who's investigating them of a crewmate suspected there is
[56:02] Speaker 3: an imposter among you, and a lot of it just
[56:05] Speaker 3: plays so deeply into the among us stuff. There's jokes
[56:08] Speaker 3: about the swipe card never working on the first go.
[56:12] Speaker 3: There's jokes about events. There's a really good bit of
[56:15] Speaker 3: writing where they say the vents are the hallways of
[56:19] Speaker 3: criminals or something like that. And I was talking to
[56:23] Speaker 3: the team behind it. One of the writers on the
[56:26] Speaker 3: crew is actually a trick Weeks from BioWare, formerly back
[56:30] Speaker 3: on Dragon Age and things like that, so there's actually
[56:32] Speaker 3: some really interesting writing talent working on this. You can
[56:35] Speaker 3: see it play out in just sort of the little
[56:38] Speaker 3: quips and jokes that feel really you're getting a good
[56:42] Speaker 3: mix of both among us references and also the character
[56:44] Speaker 3: and the internal monologue you're getting as you play this
[56:47] Speaker 3: game from the Guard is very hard boiled, detechnive detective noir,
[56:51] Speaker 3: where you're just going, like these streets reek of crime today.
[56:56] Speaker 3: I'm here on this ship to cook eggs and fight crime.
[57:00] Speaker 3: I'm all at it eggs and stuff like that, and
[57:02] Speaker 3: it's it's delightful. It is absolutely delightful in a way
[57:06] Speaker 3: that I really like because Jason, you know I I well,
[57:11] Speaker 3: well noja. But in general, I love a good puzzle
[57:16] Speaker 3: game and I love a good murder mystery.
[57:18] Speaker 9: How compares to.
[57:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah you. You and I have gone back and
[57:23] Speaker 3: forth about many of like like your Donkan Rampas, your
[57:25] Speaker 3: zero Escapes and things like that, and one of the
[57:29] Speaker 3: two by two I Can't.
[57:30] Speaker 9: Wait, which I think is secretly Before. That's my theory.
[57:34] Speaker 9: Times Before finished that with the third game, right, so.
[57:40] Speaker 3: We we can't turn this into a V three spoiler cast.
[57:43] Speaker 3: We'll be here all night. But the thing about those
[57:46] Speaker 3: games is they're they're very you know, gratuitous, They're very excessive.
[57:50] Speaker 3: Even stuff like one hundred line is very over the top,
[57:53] Speaker 3: and I love them for it. But I really like
[57:55] Speaker 3: the idea of a kind of surelock who done It?
[57:59] Speaker 3: Type game that you can play with, you know, that
[58:01] Speaker 3: families could play together, that kids could enjoy that you're
[58:04] Speaker 3: not going to be worried about putting on the switch
[58:05] Speaker 3: and saying, you know, like, oh little Timmy is playing
[58:07] Speaker 3: Dangan Rampa. No, Timmy don't play Dagon Rampau. So it
[58:12] Speaker 3: was it was just delightful. I was. I was really
[58:14] Speaker 3: taken aback that, you know, this hasn't been done before.
[58:18] Speaker 3: Because it does feel like an immediately perfect fit for
[58:21] Speaker 3: this story and for this style of gameplay, and these
[58:25] Speaker 3: these jokes work so so well.
[58:27] Speaker 9: When is that coming out?
[58:28] Speaker 3: They they just told us it's in development. Is one
[58:33] Speaker 3: of the ones where it kind of has a vibe
[58:35] Speaker 3: of when it's ready. It's ready, but what I played
[58:39] Speaker 3: felt very ready so far, And also I poked around
[58:42] Speaker 3: a few others there. One that also surprised me was
[58:45] Speaker 3: Armatus Armatuse, from the developers of Godfall. If you remember
[58:52] Speaker 3: that that game from years back. They're they're making a
[58:55] Speaker 3: third person roguelike shooter and it. Yeah, Godfall had some
[59:01] Speaker 3: sauce at some cookery and they have relocated the sauce
[59:05] Speaker 3: with this game. It's got some really great combat, lots
[59:08] Speaker 3: of dashing and shooting and getting cool upgrades for your guns,
[59:12] Speaker 3: and it's very punchy, it's very animated, it's very you
[59:17] Speaker 3: kind of get into the mix. I still haven't played Returnal.
[59:19] Speaker 3: I've not played Sorrows or Returnal, sure, but when I
[59:22] Speaker 3: was playing that game, my first thought was, this is
[59:25] Speaker 3: kind of what I thought it would feel like to
[59:26] Speaker 3: play Returnal, like in a positive way, like this is
[59:29] Speaker 3: it's got that sort of one one more go, one
[59:32] Speaker 3: more run. Get these cool upgrades, attach them to your gun,
[59:36] Speaker 3: find new ways to blast through enemies. I had this
[59:39] Speaker 3: awesome scythe that I would, you know, you build up
[59:41] Speaker 3: your special meter, your special abilities by shooting and hitting things,
[59:44] Speaker 3: and once they fill up, then you have it to use.
[59:48] Speaker 3: And they were telling me they really want to throw
[59:50] Speaker 3: enemies at the player to encourage them to not just
[59:53] Speaker 3: sit on abilities, but you want to use them constantly,
[59:55] Speaker 3: don't hoard your resources. And so I had this site
[59:58] Speaker 3: that I was flinging out and it would ricochet back
[1:00:00] Speaker 3: and forth and boomerang and petrify everything in its path,
[1:00:03] Speaker 3: and then when I shot things, they would explode into
[1:00:05] Speaker 3: stone that would ricochet around and hit other enemies to
[1:00:08] Speaker 3: do damage. It just felt very satisfying. It felt very
[1:00:11] Speaker 3: like really good to play. I was playing on a
[1:00:14] Speaker 3: pro controller on a switch to that was hooked up
[1:00:16] Speaker 3: to a TV, and it was running spectacularly. I think
[1:00:20] Speaker 3: that one is honestly one of my biggest surprises, because
[1:00:22] Speaker 3: I think, on paper, third person shooter, rogue Light, you've
[1:00:26] Speaker 3: seen it before, but this one, I think really took
[1:00:29] Speaker 3: me by surprise and nailed the concepts to kind of
[1:00:33] Speaker 3: wrap things up. You know, we talked about SGF as
[1:00:36] Speaker 3: an entity earlier, but for y'all's SGF this year. Are
[1:00:39] Speaker 3: you are you feeling good about what you've seen? Are
[1:00:41] Speaker 3: you feel good about where the industry is heading? Just
[1:00:42] Speaker 3: based off of the games you've been playing and the
[1:00:44] Speaker 3: discussions you've been having here as we've been hanging out
[1:00:47] Speaker 3: at places, talking to developers, talking to publishers, talking to media,
[1:00:50] Speaker 3: Are you feeling positive right now? Are you feeling okay?
[1:00:53] Speaker 3: You know's how's the sentiment?
[1:00:56] Speaker 8: I think like the quality of games is continue to
[1:01:00] Speaker 8: get better, and like as as as an art form,
[1:01:02] Speaker 8: I think it's just always going to continue to get better,
[1:01:04] Speaker 8: you know, when people make them not robots, But that's
[1:01:09] Speaker 8: that's kind of.
[1:01:12] Speaker 6: Not even half of what our industry is.
[1:01:15] Speaker 8: I feel good about where we're going artistically and like
[1:01:18] Speaker 8: how mechanics continue to evolve, But it's everything else around
[1:01:22] Speaker 8: it that's kind of It's been a hard couple of years.
[1:01:25] Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, yeah, it's definitely been difficult. Carson. You
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: look like you're deep in thought. I am, because because like, yes,
[1:01:31] Speaker 3: there are.
[1:01:32] Speaker 7: There are ways where the industry is like I think
[1:01:36] Speaker 7: getting better at tackling the technical limitations that we're about
[1:01:42] Speaker 7: to be facing with with like hardware prices. Yes, yeah,
[1:01:46] Speaker 7: just making games like run better and and and do
[1:01:49] Speaker 7: some pretty creative things there. But a lot of the
[1:01:52] Speaker 7: stuff that's at the show too feels like a lot
[1:01:54] Speaker 7: of the stuff that's been at the show for a
[1:01:56] Speaker 7: couple of years.
[1:01:57] Speaker 6: Yeah, Like, I.
[1:02:00] Speaker 7: Don't know, it doesn't feel all that all that fresh
[1:02:03] Speaker 7: to me right now. There's like little glimmers of hope
[1:02:05] Speaker 7: here and there.
[1:02:06] Speaker 6: But I mean there's a lot of third person action games.
[1:02:10] Speaker 2: There, the whole lot.
[1:02:11] Speaker 3: Yes, yes, but those do sell those Yes, that's true.
[1:02:14] Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's not that's not to say that I'm
[1:02:17] Speaker 7: not liking the things that I'm that I'm playing and
[1:02:19] Speaker 7: seeing there, but like there's nothing that's like.
[1:02:22] Speaker 3: Really blowing my mind.
[1:02:24] Speaker 2: Nothing.
[1:02:25] Speaker 7: I don't feel like we're moving forward significantly.
[1:02:28] Speaker 3: So yeah, Jason, what about you.
[1:02:31] Speaker 9: I was thinking about how in twenty nineteen I was
[1:02:34] Speaker 9: at E three and it felt like it was dying
[1:02:38] Speaker 9: and it was like half empty Sundays. It was really
[1:02:41] Speaker 9: really weird to real and it felt like E three
[1:02:45] Speaker 9: was on its way out, even before a global pandemic
[1:02:48] Speaker 9: came and put a put a wrench in everything and
[1:02:51] Speaker 9: accelerated its demise. And similarly, it feels like the video
[1:02:56] Speaker 9: game industry was dying before a mass of memory chip
[1:03:00] Speaker 9: crisis came along and put a wrench in everything. So
[1:03:04] Speaker 9: I mean, I am very pessimistic. I would like to
[1:03:08] Speaker 9: not be, but it's hard to be optimistic about the
[1:03:11] Speaker 9: state of the industry. And I think that, like as
[1:03:15] Speaker 9: two miles this point, the quality of video games has
[1:03:17] Speaker 9: never been better. There's never been more of a variety
[1:03:20] Speaker 9: of great games. We're still seeing new genres get invented
[1:03:25] Speaker 9: and pushed and like the boundaries are going to push
[1:03:28] Speaker 9: in all sorts of cool ways. But at the same time,
[1:03:31] Speaker 9: the industry as we know it is going through like
[1:03:33] Speaker 9: irreversible changes and I don't really know what the next
[1:03:37] Speaker 9: few years looks like there, but it's gonna be shocking
[1:03:43] Speaker 9: for a lot of people, I think, unfortunately.
[1:03:46] Speaker 3: Well, the one good thing that we have here is
[1:03:48] Speaker 3: a lot of great coverage from the folks here in
[1:03:50] Speaker 3: this room. Happy to have you on real quick before
[1:03:52] Speaker 3: we bounce out again, I might have you all plug
[1:03:54] Speaker 3: your stuff real quick. Jason, where can the folks find you?
[1:03:56] Speaker 3: And the wonderful things you do? On the internet.
[1:03:58] Speaker 9: You can find me on the Trip Click Podcasts, which
[1:04:01] Speaker 9: is a podcast about video games.
[1:04:04] Speaker 3: Excellent, excellent, Miles what about You.
[1:04:06] Speaker 8: You can find me on Blue Sky at Miles of Benza,
[1:04:08] Speaker 8: and find a lot of my games work at a
[1:04:10] Speaker 8: Temple of Geek. Also freelance that like most of these websites.
[1:04:14] Speaker 8: Heck yeah, and John Carson.
[1:04:15] Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean Blue Sky, you find me in John Carson,
[1:04:18] Speaker 7: I'm for SGF. You can find my work at bay though,
[1:04:22] Speaker 7: at MMO RPG dot com. And then I'm gonna be
[1:04:27] Speaker 7: shopping around a few other things that will hopefully land somewhere.

[1:06:35] Speaker 3: so much Road for getting us these awesome mike boom
[1:06:38] Speaker 3: arms and other equipment that we are using to bring
[1:06:41] Speaker 3: all this down. We've got a great studio set up here.
[1:06:43] Speaker 3: We're talking about the games that we played this week
[1:06:45] Speaker 3: and some are game Fest itself, and we've brought a
[1:06:48] Speaker 3: great panel in to continue that conversation. Let's start with
[1:06:51] Speaker 3: my left here. Jess introduce yourself for the folks at home.
[1:06:54] Speaker 11: Hey, I am Jessica coxsle and I am an editor
[1:06:57] Speaker 11: over at GameSpot, and we.
[1:06:59] Speaker 3: Got im raw and who are our game and former
[1:07:01] Speaker 3: fans are probably familiar with For those who don't know,
[1:07:03] Speaker 3: you know, I.
[1:07:05] Speaker 10: I think I've been giving for more like every year
[1:07:07] Speaker 10: since being laid off from gaming for her, so like
[1:07:10] Speaker 10: it's like I never.
[1:07:11] Speaker 3: Left games games media, always passing that same five dollars.
[1:07:14] Speaker 10: Or But yeah, I'm im ron Con. I am a
[1:07:18] Speaker 10: staff writer for We Start Not Run.
[1:07:21] Speaker 3: And we got Jesse over on the end. Introduced yourself.
[1:07:23] Speaker 4: Please going on, I'm Jesse Vittelli, everybody. I also work
[1:07:26] Speaker 4: at Restart dot Run. I think my official titles associate editor.
[1:07:29] Speaker 9: I don't actually know what.
[1:07:30] Speaker 10: My dad, I have two different titles in the back end.
[1:07:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm social editor and then staff writer and also
[1:07:35] Speaker 4: associate editor. I don't know which one I am.
[1:07:37] Speaker 11: I have to say something so important. I've known you
[1:07:39] Speaker 11: for so long.
[1:07:41] Speaker 12: It's Vitelli.
[1:07:42] Speaker 4: Okay, let's let's let's clear this up right now. My
[1:07:44] Speaker 4: mom says Vitelli, my dad says Vitelli, and nobody knows.
[1:07:47] Speaker 12: Yeah, I say, Jesse Vittelli.
[1:07:49] Speaker 10: You can say whatever you want to cause my wife
[1:07:51] Speaker 10: like a crisis of consciousness when like you told remember that, Yeah,
[1:07:54] Speaker 10: she was like she got mad at you.
[1:07:56] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, she really thought I was like gaslighting here forever.
[1:07:58] Speaker 10: And the truth is, I don't know.
[1:08:00] Speaker 3: I say, Jesse Viddley. Here we are, we're talking about
[1:08:05] Speaker 3: Summer game Fest. Jesse will start with you. What's the
[1:08:08] Speaker 3: vibe of Summer game Fest this year for you? How
[1:08:10] Speaker 3: are you feeling about it?
[1:08:11] Speaker 4: I feel tired, which I think a lot of people
[1:08:13] Speaker 4: have probably said it's a good time. I always call
[1:08:17] Speaker 4: it video game block party. I think that's like the
[1:08:20] Speaker 4: most apt description I can come up with. It does
[1:08:22] Speaker 4: feel a little more block party this year, with like
[1:08:24] Speaker 4: the giant statue heads and the pool.
[1:08:26] Speaker 3: To be clear, there's no water.
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: In the pool.
[1:08:27] Speaker 4: It's just like a stat It's just an empty pool,
[1:08:29] Speaker 4: empty pool with like a fake diving board. The games
[1:08:32] Speaker 4: are cool, that people are great as always, That's why
[1:08:35] Speaker 4: I love coming here. But otherwise it's like a little
[1:08:38] Speaker 4: it feels weird. I know how to describe it.
[1:08:40] Speaker 10: I do feel like there are more influencers and other
[1:08:42] Speaker 10: people giving photo ops in places now. Yes, Like when
[1:08:45] Speaker 10: I was at a demo today and like at the
[1:08:47] Speaker 10: registration booth, somebody was like taking photos posing. I'm like
[1:08:51] Speaker 10: at the registration booth, yeah, like the check in.
[1:08:54] Speaker 11: Both I was like, oh, that's funny, cool.
[1:08:57] Speaker 3: I get like that.
[1:08:57] Speaker 10: Because there were tweeting I'm in line for like this
[1:09:02] Speaker 10: demo show, you.
[1:09:03] Speaker 9: Know, I do.
[1:09:03] Speaker 11: So I think that there are definitely more influencers this year.
[1:09:06] Speaker 11: I have to say that part of me finds this
[1:09:08] Speaker 11: stuff really cute because I'm always like what if this
[1:09:11] Speaker 11: is like like this is probably their.
[1:09:12] Speaker 12: First time doing it, you know what I mean.
[1:09:13] Speaker 11: Like to them, they're like, holy shit, I made it
[1:09:15] Speaker 11: like I'm doing the thing because like we've all had
[1:09:17] Speaker 11: moments where we walk in a room and we have
[1:09:19] Speaker 11: that feeling, and so I don't know, it's cool to
[1:09:21] Speaker 11: kind of see stuff like that play out now.
[1:09:23] Speaker 10: I'm happy for them, as long as it does not
[1:09:25] Speaker 10: get in the way of me doing much.
[1:09:28] Speaker 3: I've been really excited to see. I feel like I've
[1:09:30] Speaker 3: seen a few influencers around who are definitely more on
[1:09:32] Speaker 3: the specialized side, and that has been really exciting to
[1:09:34] Speaker 3: see of people who kind of do specialized youtoo content,
[1:09:38] Speaker 3: who play certain game genres and stuff like that. I
[1:09:40] Speaker 3: believe we're having one on as a guest in our
[1:09:43] Speaker 3: next segment, so that'll be a fun discussion topic. But like,
[1:09:46] Speaker 3: I think that's a really cool thing to see because
[1:09:48] Speaker 3: that's something that as games media, I feel like we
[1:09:50] Speaker 3: always have a very generalist approach. We kind of have
[1:09:52] Speaker 3: to show up here, and there's certainly a level of
[1:09:56] Speaker 3: take appointments that feel right for you that you want
[1:09:59] Speaker 3: to do, but there are always some that are like,
[1:10:01] Speaker 3: this is a big game, this is a notable game.
[1:10:03] Speaker 3: We need to go play it, somebody has to go
[1:10:05] Speaker 3: play it. And I've really enjoyed seeing some of the
[1:10:08] Speaker 3: more specialized YouTubers and how they approach some of the
[1:10:11] Speaker 3: stuff because they go in with a beat and a
[1:10:13] Speaker 3: drive and they know what they're talking about, and they
[1:10:15] Speaker 3: go to appointments and you can immediately tell who is
[1:10:17] Speaker 3: showing up and like knows ball about what they're talking about.
[1:10:20] Speaker 9: Thousand.
[1:10:20] Speaker 11: I'm so glad that you said, because it's actually so true.
[1:10:22] Speaker 11: I remember one of the first years, like maybe the
[1:10:25] Speaker 11: second year I went to it, Like I saw someone
[1:10:28] Speaker 11: who is an influencer named cozy Ka and she does
[1:10:30] Speaker 11: a lot of like cozy game coverage. She's all over
[1:10:33] Speaker 11: Instagram and she's amazing, Like she just seems like such
[1:10:35] Speaker 11: a sweetheart. And I saw her and I was like,
[1:10:38] Speaker 11: that is so cool, Like that is so cool that
[1:10:39] Speaker 11: they are reaching out to the right people who know
[1:10:42] Speaker 11: how to serve like these very like I don't want
[1:10:44] Speaker 11: to say niche because cozy games aren't really niche, but
[1:10:46] Speaker 11: like it's a specific category of games, and I'm really
[1:10:50] Speaker 11: happy that that representation exists.
[1:10:52] Speaker 10: It'd be funny if cozy Gabe havoted to like Doom.
[1:10:55] Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean that was.
[1:10:57] Speaker 4: I remember when h is at the Saw game right now.
[1:11:01] Speaker 11: When Silent Hill came out because like f because it
[1:11:03] Speaker 11: had uh I guess like it had it had sexy
[1:11:06] Speaker 11: fox guy.
[1:11:07] Speaker 12: And it also.
[1:11:09] Speaker 11: Was just like more more focused on like feminism. I
[1:11:12] Speaker 11: saw a lot more like cozy gamers and like like
[1:11:15] Speaker 11: female streamers and stuff like that who don't typically play
[1:11:18] Speaker 11: horror start playing that game.
[1:11:19] Speaker 3: I was like, fuck, we can bleep it.
[1:11:24] Speaker 12: And I was like, yeah.
[1:11:26] Speaker 10: Antony used to get very mad at me because I would,
[1:11:27] Speaker 10: like you, like, I knew we're not supposed to curse,
[1:11:30] Speaker 10: but it was gonna happen.
[1:11:31] Speaker 3: Yeah, We're we're technically supposed to keep it within bounds,
[1:11:34] Speaker 3: so but you know you can't control it.
[1:11:36] Speaker 2: You guys get one.
[1:11:38] Speaker 10: Have you guys talked about the Saw robot?
[1:11:41] Speaker 3: Yes, yeah we have not. So the last segment we
[1:11:44] Speaker 3: had on with the wonderful John Carson, Males of Benza
[1:11:47] Speaker 3: and Jason Tryer all fantastic, we kind of talked more
[1:11:50] Speaker 3: broadly about where Summer Game fit Fest fits within the
[1:11:53] Speaker 3: industry and how, you know, does it reflect the industry
[1:11:56] Speaker 3: back at itself? And those are all great, like heady
[1:11:59] Speaker 3: philosophic topics, but we only talked about the fact that
[1:12:01] Speaker 3: there was a tiny jigsaw riding around on a bike. Yeah,
[1:12:06] Speaker 3: like about gag Yeah yeah yeah, riding around on a
[1:12:10] Speaker 3: bike with no explanation. And my first inclination that I
[1:12:15] Speaker 3: legitimately did have to hold myself back from was field
[1:12:18] Speaker 3: goal kicking. That thing is through the goalposts of heaven.
[1:12:22] Speaker 3: I strongly disliked that puppet. Yeah, I don't.
[1:12:25] Speaker 10: I don't like it. It's creepy looking. We did feed
[1:12:28] Speaker 10: it a cookie.
[1:12:28] Speaker 2: At one point.
[1:12:29] Speaker 3: We feded a cookie.
[1:12:30] Speaker 10: Yes, we have it on video.
[1:12:31] Speaker 2: We fedded a cookie.
[1:12:32] Speaker 3: Where where does the cookie go? It the mouth opens, So, okay,
[1:12:39] Speaker 3: this is maybe not the thing I'm asking that. How
[1:12:42] Speaker 3: does it process the cookie?
[1:12:44] Speaker 10: It could really just drop it out.
[1:12:46] Speaker 4: To be fair, the humans couldn't process the cookie either,
[1:12:48] Speaker 4: because the cookie was like not, there's something wrong with it.
[1:12:50] Speaker 4: It was like spongy and like it could bend in
[1:12:54] Speaker 4: a way that cookies shouldn't be able to roll about.
[1:12:56] Speaker 4: Put the cookie in the mouth and like closed, and
[1:12:58] Speaker 4: the kokie did not break. That should tell you what
[1:13:00] Speaker 4: the texture, okay, and then it ran over the cookie
[1:13:02] Speaker 4: with the tricycle and it also didn't break.
[1:13:04] Speaker 11: You know what those reminds me of you know, those
[1:13:05] Speaker 11: like hydraulic press video. Yes, yes, okay, so there is
[1:13:08] Speaker 11: a person.
[1:13:09] Speaker 12: Now what's funny.
[1:13:10] Speaker 11: I've only seen a couple of them, but they're starting
[1:13:11] Speaker 11: to pop up on Instagram and it's like a pair
[1:13:14] Speaker 11: of like fake teeth and like a hydraulic thing, and
[1:13:16] Speaker 11: it's like biting into things that you wish you could
[1:13:18] Speaker 11: bite into. Like the first one was like a hornet's nest,
[1:13:22] Speaker 11: and then somebody did like a candle, and then chaps
[1:13:24] Speaker 11: and so like I've seen all of these videos and
[1:13:26] Speaker 11: I'm like, that sounds It's like shit just goes everywhere.
[1:13:29] Speaker 11: It looks deeply unpleasant. But that's that's kind of.
[1:13:32] Speaker 10: What this agree with Chapstick and like, what was the
[1:13:35] Speaker 10: other thing?
[1:13:35] Speaker 5: A candle?
[1:13:36] Speaker 2: A candle?
[1:13:40] Speaker 3: It wasn't good.
[1:13:41] Speaker 9: It wasn't good.
[1:13:41] Speaker 3: It's terrible. I understand the drive. Yeah, okay, Jesse knows this.
[1:13:47] Speaker 3: Aboucon we talked about it, We talked about the showcase. Yeah.
[1:13:51] Speaker 3: I have a weird thing where sometimes I see something
[1:13:53] Speaker 3: in a video game and I'm like I just kind
[1:13:55] Speaker 3: of want to eat it, like just about wild. No, wait,
[1:13:58] Speaker 3: what's in Breath of the Water. You can't like you can't.
[1:14:00] Speaker 10: Use those its ingredients like not hornets and specifically like
[1:14:04] Speaker 10: a lobster claws and like there's like a wasp nest looking.
[1:14:07] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I know this is this is about me
[1:14:09] Speaker 3: playing Final Fantasy fourteen and wanting to see what the
[1:14:12] Speaker 3: like ether rightes taste like because they look like giant
[1:14:16] Speaker 3: pieces of rock candy. And then we saw Gotta War
[1:14:18] Speaker 3: Laufe at this at the state of play, and I
[1:14:23] Speaker 3: want to eat I want to eat the cube, like
[1:14:25] Speaker 3: not eat the cube, not wholly eat.
[1:14:26] Speaker 10: The cube, but like the corner yeah yeah, yeah, and like.
[1:14:30] Speaker 3: Not pull a corner like I do. Kind of want
[1:14:32] Speaker 3: to bite it, like I want to leave like a
[1:14:33] Speaker 3: cartoon bite in the corner. There's something about it.
[1:14:37] Speaker 10: If if Jeff Keeley put a chocolate statue of something
[1:14:41] Speaker 10: in Semer Games Fest, how long do you think it
[1:14:43] Speaker 10: would go before somebody bit it?
[1:14:45] Speaker 3: I would bite it on site.
[1:14:50] Speaker 1: Wine one.
[1:14:52] Speaker 3: I used to literally do not think I have the
[1:14:55] Speaker 3: self control to.
[1:14:56] Speaker 11: Not do Okay, this this is a really good question, though,
[1:15:00] Speaker 11: What does everybody think the cube from Laufe taste?
[1:15:02] Speaker 3: Like?
[1:15:03] Speaker 4: We actually discussed this check we asked question.
[1:15:05] Speaker 3: This is a good question, I say, I said, cucumber
[1:15:08] Speaker 3: lime gatorade. Oh that was my immediate takeaway.
[1:15:12] Speaker 10: It's kind of like these bubble like they're stars or something, right,
[1:15:15] Speaker 10: but like it has a fizzy look to it, So
[1:15:17] Speaker 10: I feel like it would taste like sprite.
[1:15:19] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, like it would have kind of a Seltzery
[1:15:21] Speaker 3: type taste to it, like there'd be some carbonation inside.
[1:15:24] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:15:24] Speaker 4: I feel like it's like an ocean, like a sea
[1:15:27] Speaker 4: salt or like some sort of it's the word I'm
[1:15:30] Speaker 4: looking for. I don't know. I went blue raspberry originally,
[1:15:32] Speaker 4: but then I kind of moved into the sort of
[1:15:34] Speaker 4: ocean vibe, of some sort of sea salt coconut type vibe.
[1:15:39] Speaker 11: I I picture like if you had that what's the
[1:15:42] Speaker 11: light blue gatorade like our Glacier freez Glacier if you.
[1:15:45] Speaker 12: Had like jello of that, That's what I'm feeling. That's
[1:15:49] Speaker 12: the vibe.
[1:15:50] Speaker 4: I guess wait, can you Sorry this is a little
[1:15:51] Speaker 4: off topic, but to point to piggyback off of Glacier Freeze,
[1:15:55] Speaker 4: could you not just freeze gatorade like Glacier Freeze Gatorade.
[1:15:57] Speaker 3: And ice cube freeze Gatorade And then just like what
[1:16:00] Speaker 3: I should freezepops. You can make popsicles for sure.
[1:16:03] Speaker 10: Yeah.
[1:16:03] Speaker 4: No, I want to make ice cubes so like put
[1:16:04] Speaker 4: them in my other drinks.
[1:16:05] Speaker 3: Oh. Absolutely, there's nothing sotobbing you from freezing things up.
[1:16:11] Speaker 10: For Jeff, this is like bad for everybody.
[1:16:14] Speaker 3: Actually, you actually definitely got a ninja creamy if I remember.
[1:16:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been using that.
[1:16:20] Speaker 3: What has the tech been for the creamy tech?
[1:16:22] Speaker 4: The text for the creamy is almond milk, bunk fruit
[1:16:25] Speaker 4: sweetener xanthum gum, which I've been playing around with. That that
[1:16:29] Speaker 4: stuffs dangerous, be very careful, makes everything very sticky, a
[1:16:33] Speaker 4: crushed oreo, and then you jam it in the ninja
[1:16:37] Speaker 4: creamy and it like spins it all up. You have
[1:16:39] Speaker 4: to freeze it for like twenty four hours and then
[1:16:41] Speaker 4: it makes you ice cream that's like one hundred calories.
[1:16:42] Speaker 6: It's crazy.
[1:16:44] Speaker 4: But I keep messing it up and it becomes it
[1:16:45] Speaker 4: comes out like uh, shaved ice.
[1:16:48] Speaker 6: So I gotta figure out what I'm doing wrong.
[1:16:49] Speaker 11: I do you want me to tell you what I
[1:16:51] Speaker 11: suspect what almond milk? Almond milk is like, have you
[1:16:55] Speaker 11: tried a different type of milk?
[1:16:56] Speaker 1: No?
[1:16:57] Speaker 11: It separates a lot and it just kind of freeze.
[1:17:00] Speaker 11: Doesn't get like that, like that chippy frost bitten type.
[1:17:03] Speaker 12: That can be almond milk. That would be my suggestion.
[1:17:07] Speaker 4: Maybe.
[1:17:07] Speaker 12: I oh, I was gonna.
[1:17:08] Speaker 9: Say oat milk.
[1:17:09] Speaker 3: I mean I could go to Whole Milk.
[1:17:10] Speaker 2: I just I'm milk I've had was in the in
[1:17:13] Speaker 2: the fringe.
[1:17:13] Speaker 6: It's gonna go bad.
[1:17:14] Speaker 3: You know what else doesn't go bad is video games
[1:17:18] Speaker 3: at summer games.
[1:17:19] Speaker 10: Many of them do anina.
[1:17:22] Speaker 9: I know this was an ice cream fun I took
[1:17:25] Speaker 9: the reins and have a transition.
[1:17:27] Speaker 10: There's a but does the like ice cream? There is
[1:17:30] Speaker 10: his name, but does the soft serve? And I was like,
[1:17:32] Speaker 10: that's a pretty goods good.
[1:17:36] Speaker 3: I feel like I never eat at Summer Game Fest.
[1:17:38] Speaker 3: There is food at Summer Game Fest for those who
[1:17:40] Speaker 3: have wondered, uh, there are food trucks even, but I
[1:17:44] Speaker 3: feel like I never go over there because I never
[1:17:47] Speaker 3: have time to. It's it's so far away at the
[1:17:49] Speaker 3: end of campus. And they did have I had Barbie
[1:17:52] Speaker 3: lemonade today and that was pretty good, But otherwise I
[1:17:54] Speaker 3: just haven't been over there at all.
[1:17:55] Speaker 11: The best thing that they ever had was one year
[1:17:58] Speaker 11: they had like you know those Yankee Sonic that the
[1:18:03] Speaker 11: ones like the green like like they had those and
[1:18:06] Speaker 11: that was wonderful.
[1:18:07] Speaker 3: I never had one before that bone, Yeah, it was.
[1:18:10] Speaker 3: It was pretty magical. Yea, what is a Barbie lemonade?
[1:18:12] Speaker 3: It's it's just lemonade?
[1:18:13] Speaker 2: Is it lemonade?
[1:18:15] Speaker 3: No, this was This was just lemonade, straight lemonade. They
[1:18:19] Speaker 3: just it might have been like it was supposed to
[1:18:22] Speaker 3: be bank. I feel like it might have been like
[1:18:23] Speaker 3: supposed to be bank, but I think they were just
[1:18:25] Speaker 3: they just gave me a glass of lemonade and then
[1:18:27] Speaker 3: told me that there's a new Barbie game coming up.
[1:18:29] Speaker 10: But walked by the like twenty year old girls that
[1:18:32] Speaker 10: are like staffing that booth. We're like, great shirt. I'm like,
[1:18:36] Speaker 10: this reference is so much older.
[1:18:40] Speaker 11: It's so funny though, that because some of the stuff
[1:18:42] Speaker 11: that is there is literally just like normal thing with
[1:18:45] Speaker 11: branding attached to it. There's a whole coffee shop, and
[1:18:47] Speaker 11: the coffee shop is actually really good. The on site
[1:18:50] Speaker 11: coffee shop, it's so good every year like they nail it.
[1:18:52] Speaker 11: But this year it was sponsored by Warframe and Soul
[1:18:55] Speaker 11: Frame and so all of the names of every it
[1:18:57] Speaker 11: was just like the likest Momo sci Fi and so
[1:19:02] Speaker 11: I would go up there and I'm like, I just
[1:19:04] Speaker 11: want a chi with Oatmelk and like I got you.
[1:19:06] Speaker 12: I understand, I got you.
[1:19:08] Speaker 3: Every morning I've walked in there and just been like,
[1:19:10] Speaker 3: I like a dirty chie, please, we got you?
[1:19:12] Speaker 2: Okay?
[1:19:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I've been on the chie like that.
[1:19:16] Speaker 12: Let's fay it. I literally got a dirty hie today.
[1:19:18] Speaker 3: It's so good, it's excellent.
[1:19:19] Speaker 10: I'm glad I dragged us back to food.
[1:19:21] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you know what else is good?
[1:19:24] Speaker 2: Whatever?
[1:19:24] Speaker 3: Jesse Vittelli has been playing lately? What have you been
[1:19:26] Speaker 3: enjoying at SGF? Oh?
[1:19:28] Speaker 4: I feel like I have played nothing, which is untrue.
[1:19:30] Speaker 4: I've played a lot. The thing I've been thinking about
[1:19:32] Speaker 4: the most though, is Clutch, the racing game from Maverick Games,
[1:19:36] Speaker 4: the one that ends with you shooting like a harpoon
[1:19:38] Speaker 4: through a helicopter. That game's cool. I saw like an
[1:19:41] Speaker 4: hour presentation of it in the hottest room in the
[1:19:43] Speaker 4: entire world. But it was the game was cool enough
[1:19:47] Speaker 4: to keep me cool, you know what I'm saying. And
[1:19:49] Speaker 4: so what's really neat about it is it's exports Horizon
[1:19:52] Speaker 4: devs who are making a game and they're like, what
[1:19:55] Speaker 4: if we made Forts the Horizon better. And I mean
[1:19:58] Speaker 4: that like sincerely, because I just reviewed Forts Horizon six
[1:20:01] Speaker 4: whatever a couple of months ago, right or a month
[1:20:03] Speaker 4: ago when however, time doesn't matter. And my problem is
[1:20:06] Speaker 4: I think we've butt like up against how much you
[1:20:10] Speaker 4: can interact with an open world through a car, like
[1:20:13] Speaker 4: you we do the Barn Finds, you jump off a cliff,
[1:20:15] Speaker 4: you drive a car, right, this game is like what
[1:20:17] Speaker 4: if you did that but you had an oil slick
[1:20:19] Speaker 4: you could like sprat behind you, or a grappling hook,
[1:20:21] Speaker 4: so a jet booster, Batman.
[1:20:23] Speaker 10: What if you were like, what if you had the
[1:20:25] Speaker 10: James Bond car and you could do cool?
[1:20:26] Speaker 1: What was that?
[1:20:27] Speaker 2: Game?
[1:20:27] Speaker 3: Is like Spy Hunt or something? Yeah? Yeah, is it
[1:20:31] Speaker 3: kind of like that? I mean nobody else has played
[1:20:32] Speaker 3: Spy Hunter for the game cube.
[1:20:35] Speaker 10: Spying Over for the game a reboot of the original Spy.
[1:20:38] Speaker 4: Inter Clutch is really interesting because it has all this
[1:20:41] Speaker 4: like weird tech that makes the cars like really fun
[1:20:42] Speaker 4: to play, but it also drives like Forts the Horizon,
[1:20:45] Speaker 4: and it has he's even got like the drive line
[1:20:47] Speaker 4: and all this stuff. But it's a narrative driven game,
[1:20:50] Speaker 4: so there's like there are characters in this world that
[1:20:53] Speaker 4: you know, tragedy befalls them when one of their racing
[1:20:56] Speaker 4: comebah whatever whenever their racers dies, gets explosion in a
[1:21:01] Speaker 4: race or whatever.
[1:21:02] Speaker 3: And then they're like, we gotta get revenge.
[1:21:03] Speaker 6: We got to find out what happened to them.
[1:21:05] Speaker 4: And then now you're just like driving and you're like
[1:21:07] Speaker 4: walking into people's houses. You get to get out of
[1:21:08] Speaker 4: the car in certain areas and like explore this person's
[1:21:11] Speaker 4: like apartment, and then you steal their car and drive
[1:21:13] Speaker 4: it off a cliff and then shoot at harpoon through
[1:21:15] Speaker 4: a helicopter.
[1:21:16] Speaker 11: This game is crazy, Like, okay, outside of Diddy Kong racing,
[1:21:19] Speaker 11: I really don't care about racing game.
[1:21:21] Speaker 2: Oh this is cool.
[1:21:22] Speaker 12: I hear that, and I'm like, you know what I'm in.
[1:21:25] Speaker 3: I do want to steal a car.
[1:21:27] Speaker 4: It's really interesting because they have this two split where
[1:21:30] Speaker 4: it's like at night you do street races and you
[1:21:33] Speaker 4: do it for your like Instagram followers, and you have
[1:21:35] Speaker 4: this chat that's like asking you to do things, and
[1:21:37] Speaker 4: you're doing things while you're racing for like donations and stuff,
[1:21:40] Speaker 4: and then during the day it's you're doing like more
[1:21:43] Speaker 4: normal sort of like professional races and it all takes
[1:21:46] Speaker 4: place in Monaco, and so you're you're just driving around,
[1:21:49] Speaker 4: you know whatever, the south of France chilling.
[1:21:51] Speaker 3: I mean this genuinely. Are there actual live streams out
[1:21:56] Speaker 3: there that are like that of people doing illegal street
[1:21:59] Speaker 3: races on things?
[1:22:00] Speaker 12: I bet you there are, though.
[1:22:02] Speaker 1: There are probably.
[1:22:04] Speaker 3: I know what's doing tonight.
[1:22:06] Speaker 11: Because like I feel like the racing community, not that
[1:22:10] Speaker 11: I'm at all adjacent to it, but like I just like,
[1:22:13] Speaker 11: like guys I know who are really into like cars
[1:22:15] Speaker 11: and racing, they're really into it.
[1:22:17] Speaker 12: Like I guarantee you they're watching some sort of stream.
[1:22:19] Speaker 3: Okay, it's got to exist, all right, Well, we'll look
[1:22:22] Speaker 3: up those streams later. Imron, what have you been enjoying? Uh?
[1:22:26] Speaker 10: Earlier today? I'm talking about Ellice that I played today,
[1:22:29] Speaker 10: Both of them are. I just finished Stranger than Heaven
[1:22:32] Speaker 10: that demo.
[1:22:33] Speaker 3: You finished Stranger finished that game?
[1:22:35] Speaker 10: It was a real long demo that I played today,
[1:22:39] Speaker 10: A real short game. Yeah, that's rgg's new game. Where
[1:22:45] Speaker 10: they are I would say, stepping on some rakes here
[1:22:48] Speaker 10: and there, but like the not in the last chaniel
[1:22:52] Speaker 10: or the like the big trailer they came out of
[1:22:54] Speaker 10: a couple of months ago with at the like Xbox
[1:22:57] Speaker 10: presents whatever that I think. I looked at that, I said, Okay,
[1:23:00] Speaker 10: they are going for a generational leap in their yakaza ideas,
[1:23:03] Speaker 10: and they are. That ambition is certainly there. Whether it
[1:23:08] Speaker 10: succeeds for you, I think is going to really depend
[1:23:10] Speaker 10: on the type of person you are. I was talking
[1:23:12] Speaker 10: to a mutual friend of ours who did not like it.
[1:23:14] Speaker 10: They were a big yak as a fan, but they
[1:23:16] Speaker 10: were not feeling this. I feel differently. I think it
[1:23:19] Speaker 10: actually works pretty well. It is their attempt at turning
[1:23:23] Speaker 10: yakaza into a kind of a soul's like. In terms
[1:23:27] Speaker 10: of combat, this demo is purely combat. For the record,
[1:23:30] Speaker 10: I did not get to walk around or do stories
[1:23:32] Speaker 10: over now on that. So like it is a if
[1:23:36] Speaker 10: you are surrounded by four people, you will probably get
[1:23:39] Speaker 10: kit like the crap beating out of you. But you
[1:23:43] Speaker 10: have your right arm and your left arm and they
[1:23:46] Speaker 10: are on the shoulder, buttons of triggers, and so if
[1:23:49] Speaker 10: like a guy grabs your right arm, what do you do.
[1:23:51] Speaker 10: You start trying to punch him with your left arm,
[1:23:53] Speaker 10: or you're trying to punch the guy next to him
[1:23:55] Speaker 10: with your left arm, or if you are trying to
[1:23:58] Speaker 10: like alternate your fists up to get better combos, or
[1:24:01] Speaker 10: one as a weapon, so like you should make sure
[1:24:03] Speaker 10: that the weben arm is the one that you're blocking with.
[1:24:06] Speaker 3: We had Carson on here earlier talking about it, and
[1:24:09] Speaker 3: it reminded me I mentioned tech in at the time,
[1:24:11] Speaker 3: that that's kind of the same philosophy tech And takes
[1:24:14] Speaker 3: with its buttons. Also, I just remember now Absolver, if
[1:24:18] Speaker 3: you're yes, had a very similar idea. But that is,
[1:24:22] Speaker 3: you know, Yakuza a game that is a little bit
[1:24:25] Speaker 3: more known for your standard like third person action brawler
[1:24:29] Speaker 3: set up, and even at that a little bit more
[1:24:32] Speaker 3: spectacle than challenge, and this one, is it leaning more
[1:24:35] Speaker 3: towards that challenge side and like trying to push you
[1:24:37] Speaker 3: a little bit more.
[1:24:38] Speaker 10: I think it's definitely trying to. Like, So the way
[1:24:41] Speaker 10: that demo was set up is they put you at
[1:24:42] Speaker 10: a beginner phase, then you beat that, and you go
[1:24:45] Speaker 10: to like a more intermediate one and you beat that.
[1:24:47] Speaker 10: They go essentially what is a demo version of a
[1:24:49] Speaker 10: super boss? And they like, I don't know how many
[1:24:53] Speaker 10: people in that demo station beat that, but I didn't
[1:24:55] Speaker 10: know I had a crowd around me. That went from
[1:24:57] Speaker 10: enthusiasm that I kept losing to pity and that does
[1:25:01] Speaker 10: never feels good. But I did eventually beat that thing,
[1:25:04] Speaker 10: And yeah, I can see if they go more that direction,
[1:25:08] Speaker 10: that that is the like they are trying to hit
[1:25:11] Speaker 10: a challenge thing they are trying to be at zo.
[1:25:13] Speaker 10: You will get better at this game and you will
[1:25:16] Speaker 10: like understand the boss's timing and you will understand what
[1:25:19] Speaker 10: moves are doing. So this buzz in particular, had a
[1:25:22] Speaker 10: thing where if they kneel down and they will either
[1:25:27] Speaker 10: like attack you if you are trying to attack them,
[1:25:29] Speaker 10: drink sake and cover their health, or they will run
[1:25:32] Speaker 10: at you and like kill you in one hit. The
[1:25:35] Speaker 10: killing made one hit thing happened to me several times.
[1:25:39] Speaker 10: But like it. As I was playing, I just learned
[1:25:42] Speaker 10: more and more of him doing that one time he
[1:25:44] Speaker 10: needed to be in a condent or in a combo.
[1:25:46] Speaker 10: And like even the reps around like wow, I've never
[1:25:49] Speaker 10: seen that before, Like great, fantastic, awesome.
[1:25:52] Speaker 11: Favorite things when you're previewing something like wow, I've never
[1:25:54] Speaker 11: seen that before.
[1:25:55] Speaker 12: Awesome, that's great.
[1:25:58] Speaker 3: Sometimes it's just good I've never seen before. Sometimes it's
[1:26:00] Speaker 3: a bad. I've never seen that before. It's a uh oh, But.
[1:26:05] Speaker 10: Honestly, it's really interesting if, like the if the story
[1:26:10] Speaker 10: can keep up with what they're trying to do with
[1:26:12] Speaker 10: the combat, I think that's going to be an interesting game.
[1:26:16] Speaker 10: Obviously there are other aspects of that game that are disagreeable,
[1:26:20] Speaker 10: but well, we'll see what happens when that game actually
[1:26:23] Speaker 10: comes out.
[1:26:23] Speaker 3: I sum we'll see whether we will hit him up,
[1:26:25] Speaker 3: hit them up or not. Yeah, Jess, how about you?
[1:26:30] Speaker 9: Yeah?
[1:26:30] Speaker 11: So I guess you know. One that I would want
[1:26:33] Speaker 11: to talk about today. The one that I saw this
[1:26:35] Speaker 11: morning that stood out to me is Silent Hill Town Fall.
[1:26:38] Speaker 12: Did anybody else see it?
[1:26:39] Speaker 3: I really wanted to.
[1:26:42] Speaker 12: It's so okay.
[1:26:42] Speaker 11: This was it was all hands off and it was
[1:26:44] Speaker 11: only about fifteen minutes or so of actual like gameplay.
[1:26:49] Speaker 11: It's first person, which is a first for the series.
[1:26:53] Speaker 11: So if you're looking for like something to like scratch
[1:26:57] Speaker 11: the pt itch that we were hoping would one day
[1:27:00] Speaker 11: be scratched, this is probably it. And because it's in
[1:27:03] Speaker 11: first person, I feel like it's very eerily grounded, like
[1:27:09] Speaker 11: when you're walking through some of the houses like it.
[1:27:10] Speaker 11: It feels very very very real and.
[1:27:16] Speaker 12: I don't know's it's.
[1:27:17] Speaker 11: I'm excited for it, Like I think that based off
[1:27:20] Speaker 11: of what I've seen, it looks like it might be
[1:27:22] Speaker 11: the scariest one, which makes me a little nervous because
[1:27:24] Speaker 11: I'm kind of a baby sometimes. But it's the atmosphere
[1:27:29] Speaker 11: and what's going on with it is interesting enough to
[1:27:31] Speaker 11: where I'm like, I gotta I gotta be brave.
[1:27:33] Speaker 3: What sets it apart as like a Silent Hill game,
[1:27:36] Speaker 3: because I feel like Silent Hill you had kind of
[1:27:37] Speaker 3: the continuity for a long time of the mainline games.
[1:27:41] Speaker 3: Now there's been a lot of branching off with Silent
[1:27:43] Speaker 3: Hill F and now Soilent Hill Town Fall. What is
[1:27:45] Speaker 3: the sort of like not gimmick but like thing that
[1:27:47] Speaker 3: this one does that makes it its own Silent Hill game.
[1:27:50] Speaker 11: So I think it's hard to tell right now because
[1:27:52] Speaker 11: I think what they are going for with like the
[1:27:53] Speaker 11: defining thing that makes Silent Hill a Silent Hill game
[1:27:57] Speaker 11: is just this element of being trapped in a prison
[1:28:02] Speaker 11: of your own making, like that is kind of like
[1:28:04] Speaker 11: the true Silent ill It is whether it's guilt, whether
[1:28:08] Speaker 11: it's like in Silent Hill F, like her whole thing
[1:28:10] Speaker 11: is being a woman who is trapped between wanting independence
[1:28:16] Speaker 11: and wanting to adhere to societal norms and like kind
[1:28:19] Speaker 11: of essentially like losing her mind because of it. And
[1:28:23] Speaker 11: so a lot of it is whether it's something like
[1:28:26] Speaker 11: James and Silent Hill too, where like he was.
[1:28:28] Speaker 12: A person who did something pretty fuck.
[1:28:31] Speaker 11: I can't say this where you know, like James, where
[1:28:33] Speaker 11: it's like he was the person who who did something
[1:28:36] Speaker 11: that was.
[1:28:37] Speaker 3: Not good next to you and I'm a mom. I'm
[1:28:43] Speaker 3: a mom.
[1:28:44] Speaker 12: I'm not supposed to be, but I like.
[1:28:45] Speaker 10: I haven't I heard a kid cursed before, and it
[1:28:48] Speaker 10: is very funny.
[1:28:50] Speaker 11: Ye that sounds right, especially God, I need to work
[1:28:54] Speaker 11: on maybe a genius swear jar. But no, it's like,
[1:28:56] Speaker 11: so you have you know, like James, who it's of
[1:29:00] Speaker 11: his own volition, and then you have Hinko who's kind
[1:29:03] Speaker 11: of forced by society. And in this one we don't
[1:29:06] Speaker 11: know what it is yet. The main character's name is Simon.
[1:29:08] Speaker 11: He's very meek and something that I like that they're doing.
[1:29:13] Speaker 11: Is a lot of times, and especially in horror games,
[1:29:15] Speaker 11: it can be really weird when you have a protagonist who,
[1:29:17] Speaker 11: like you're trying to be stealthy. You don't want to
[1:29:20] Speaker 11: be heard by something that's going to instantly kill you,
[1:29:22] Speaker 11: and then like they do something, you're like, oh that
[1:29:24] Speaker 11: was rough, you know, and it's like, well, like what
[1:29:26] Speaker 11: you why are you talking to yourself? So instead of
[1:29:28] Speaker 11: talking to himself because he is a quiet, reserved kind
[1:29:30] Speaker 11: of guy, there's just like little texts that pops up
[1:29:33] Speaker 11: on the side like every so often. It's like an
[1:29:35] Speaker 11: internal monologue. You know, it'll be like, oh, like you know,
[1:29:37] Speaker 11: I don't know what like what this does, and it
[1:29:40] Speaker 11: kind of serves as a way to where you're not
[1:29:42] Speaker 11: just getting like an annoying, like new objective pop up,
[1:29:44] Speaker 11: but you're also not getting like the chatty protagonist and
[1:29:47] Speaker 11: a like that doesn't make sense.
[1:29:48] Speaker 12: So I feel like they are.
[1:29:51] Speaker 11: I don't know, they're they're sticking to what's making all
[1:29:54] Speaker 11: of the recent Silent Hill games like really good, because
[1:29:57] Speaker 11: I mean too remake phenomenal, f phenomenal. They are on
[1:30:00] Speaker 11: kind of a role right now, and I think this
[1:30:02] Speaker 11: one looks really different from both of those, which they
[1:30:07] Speaker 11: were distinct from one another too, but they're still doing
[1:30:09] Speaker 11: something that like works with what they're doing with the
[1:30:12] Speaker 11: series and seems interesting.
[1:30:14] Speaker 3: Interesting. Yeah, I Silent Hill really seems like it has
[1:30:17] Speaker 3: found a second win. I mean, Konami in general seems
[1:30:19] Speaker 3: to have suddenly found a second wind of we're going
[1:30:22] Speaker 3: to get some of these series back to where they
[1:30:24] Speaker 3: used to be. We're going to stop letting them you know,
[1:30:28] Speaker 3: my round and nothing. And it's been kind of interesting.
[1:30:31] Speaker 10: Yeah, Castloveedia was like the most exciting thing I saw today. Yeah, yeah,
[1:30:34] Speaker 10: I don't want to play that game. But also it's like,
[1:30:36] Speaker 10: if you told me five years ago Stalin Hill is
[1:30:38] Speaker 10: going to become Yearly and they're all going to be good,
[1:30:41] Speaker 10: you'll be like you're insane.
[1:30:43] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Well it's.
[1:30:44] Speaker 11: So this is kind of like a funny, cool story
[1:30:46] Speaker 11: because it was one of the first times where I
[1:30:48] Speaker 11: went to an event and I was I was like
[1:30:49] Speaker 11: having a conversation with developers that felt like really cool,
[1:30:54] Speaker 11: you know what I mean.
[1:30:55] Speaker 12: Like it's not nothing like that.
[1:30:56] Speaker 11: It's like that they're all great conversations, but I was like,
[1:30:59] Speaker 11: I feel like I I'm like in it right now,
[1:31:01] Speaker 11: and it's I went to Konami. I've been to the there,
[1:31:06] Speaker 11: like gone to Japan and seen the last couple of years.
[1:31:08] Speaker 11: So I saw them for Silent Hell too. I saw
[1:31:10] Speaker 11: them for Silent Hell f and we've gotten to know
[1:31:12] Speaker 11: each other a little bit more. But I remember the
[1:31:14] Speaker 11: first time that I was out there, they were like,
[1:31:16] Speaker 11: so we look at Capcom and they even brought up Capcom.
[1:31:19] Speaker 11: They're like, we look at Capcom and we look at
[1:31:20] Speaker 11: Resident Evil, and like, you guys are really loving this
[1:31:23] Speaker 11: in America, like.
[1:31:24] Speaker 12: You're loving what they're doing.
[1:31:25] Speaker 11: It seems like they're doing everything right, like they're and
[1:31:27] Speaker 11: I like, I think I even said, like they're going
[1:31:29] Speaker 11: through like a bit of like a like a renaissance
[1:31:30] Speaker 11: right now, and they're like, that's what we want to capture.
[1:31:33] Speaker 12: Like they even said that. They're like that is like
[1:31:35] Speaker 12: like we have And I even.
[1:31:36] Speaker 11: Told them Tom, like, you guys have so many good
[1:31:38] Speaker 11: like franchises, like you you truly do in like the
[1:31:40] Speaker 11: least like cynical corporate way, but like you have so
[1:31:43] Speaker 11: many series that people deeply care about, and so I
[1:31:46] Speaker 11: think that all you really have to do is invest
[1:31:48] Speaker 11: in those rather than Pachinko idiots, and like you've you've
[1:31:51] Speaker 11: probably got some winners, right, And I think that like
[1:31:54] Speaker 11: that's been their strategy, and they really are investing, particularly
[1:31:58] Speaker 11: in Silent Hill, and they've been really.
[1:31:59] Speaker 3: Good yeah, Yeah, Salinel has been really on an uptick
[1:32:04] Speaker 3: over the last few years. It's been cool to see.
[1:32:06] Speaker 3: Closing thoughts, we'll start back with you, like, where do
[1:32:10] Speaker 3: you think SGF is at, Like, do you think we're
[1:32:12] Speaker 3: at a good place with how SGF kind of fits
[1:32:14] Speaker 3: within the industry. Do you think it's kind of serving
[1:32:16] Speaker 3: the need that needs to serve?
[1:32:18] Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean I think that it.
[1:32:20] Speaker 11: It's hard because like I can really kind of only
[1:32:22] Speaker 11: speak for myself because I think that as of right now,
[1:32:27] Speaker 11: it's still it's a really great press event, you know
[1:32:30] Speaker 11: what I mean. It is not like your fan fest.
[1:32:32] Speaker 11: It is not an eth like the public E three.
[1:32:34] Speaker 9: It is not.
[1:32:35] Speaker 11: Something that like is this public like hype event that
[1:32:41] Speaker 11: feels like a real, big like celebration of video games.
[1:32:43] Speaker 11: It feels like a press event. And for someone who
[1:32:47] Speaker 11: is working in the press, it's really great for me
[1:32:50] Speaker 11: because I feel like, I it's small enough to where
[1:32:52] Speaker 11: I can get what I need to get done.
[1:32:55] Speaker 12: I wish that they had more areas to actually write.
[1:32:58] Speaker 11: That would be really I wish they had more like
[1:33:00] Speaker 11: chairs outpower in.
[1:33:02] Speaker 10: The media were which they had last year, but didn't
[1:33:06] Speaker 10: this even.
[1:33:06] Speaker 11: At the end this year, they took away all the
[1:33:08] Speaker 11: chairs and the areas with the tables to write.
[1:33:11] Speaker 3: Jeffrey Keely, if you are, if you're watching this, if
[1:33:14] Speaker 3: you're listening to this, Uh, it is kind of wild.
[1:33:17] Speaker 3: How Yeah. The media room has like no outlets in it,
[1:33:20] Speaker 3: and it's.
[1:33:21] Speaker 10: Also incredibly hot.
[1:33:22] Speaker 4: There's like no air conditioning in the back of it.
[1:33:23] Speaker 3: And the cafe for some reason has a bunch of
[1:33:26] Speaker 3: tables and no chairs.
[1:33:29] Speaker 12: And I'm glad that you.
[1:33:30] Speaker 11: Brought up like the hot thing too, because so they
[1:33:32] Speaker 11: added this year, there was an expansion. It used to
[1:33:34] Speaker 11: end there's like this this it's so inside baseball, but
[1:33:37] Speaker 11: there's like a coffee shop, and then it kind of
[1:33:38] Speaker 11: like ended right there. But now they've extended it because
[1:33:42] Speaker 11: it's growing in size, like each year it's consistently getting larger,
[1:33:45] Speaker 11: and they added like additional rooms and they have like
[1:33:47] Speaker 11: this trailer. And I was talking to some of the
[1:33:49] Speaker 11: developers that somebody like walked up to me and they're like,
[1:33:52] Speaker 11: I hate it. I hate it so much. It's so
[1:33:54] Speaker 11: hot in there. I'm dripping with sweat. It doesn't even
[1:33:56] Speaker 11: feel safe. And like also they had one of the
[1:33:58] Speaker 11: PC's crash and like somebody who was playing, could no
[1:34:02] Speaker 11: longer play because they had to restart everything because they overheated.
[1:34:04] Speaker 12: Everything was too hot in the room.
[1:34:06] Speaker 11: And he's like, yeah, like we're definitely gonna have to
[1:34:08] Speaker 11: leave feedback or something because like we can't, we can't
[1:34:10] Speaker 11: do it if it were any hotter this year, like
[1:34:12] Speaker 11: we straight up would have to be like no, like
[1:34:14] Speaker 11: we have to shut down.
[1:34:16] Speaker 3: Can I give my cynical take real quick?
[1:34:17] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that the media lounge lash.
[1:34:20] Speaker 3: This is like real inside Baseball.
[1:34:21] Speaker 2: Sorry.
[1:34:22] Speaker 4: I think the media lounge last year was really good
[1:34:24] Speaker 4: and everybody stayed in it, and all the pictures and
[1:34:27] Speaker 4: videos from the event looked like no one was at it.
[1:34:29] Speaker 4: When you're in that main strip, it looks like just
[1:34:31] Speaker 4: an alleyway with nobody there because everybody's inside, sitting.
[1:34:33] Speaker 9: Down doing anything.
[1:34:34] Speaker 10: I think they did not want this this year.
[1:34:36] Speaker 4: I think they wanted everybody out and about and taking
[1:34:38] Speaker 4: photos so that when the drone flies over, it gets
[1:34:40] Speaker 4: the drone shot. All the people are actually outside and
[1:34:42] Speaker 4: not sitting tucked away in some media lounge writing. And
[1:34:45] Speaker 4: I think it's at odds with one another because there's
[1:34:46] Speaker 4: a creator event and there's a press event, and creators
[1:34:48] Speaker 4: are obviously out and about doing their thing, which is
[1:34:50] Speaker 4: great and super cool. I love doing that, and press
[1:34:53] Speaker 4: are trying to do their job, and there needs to
[1:34:54] Speaker 4: be a happy medium where they can sit down and
[1:34:56] Speaker 4: write for an hour or two when they need to,
[1:34:57] Speaker 4: and then they can.
[1:34:58] Speaker 7: Go out and look around and do whatever.
[1:35:00] Speaker 4: I think they maybe have swung the fence or swung
[1:35:01] Speaker 4: the needle the other way.
[1:35:02] Speaker 3: Shit.
[1:35:02] Speaker 10: But also it's a weird thing because like this SGF
[1:35:05] Speaker 10: more than like I think any in my memory, everything's
[1:35:10] Speaker 10: a bargain. Yeah, I can't write anything because like there's
[1:35:14] Speaker 10: nothing to write this week.
[1:35:15] Speaker 4: Even so all the appointments are double the length that
[1:35:17] Speaker 4: they were last year.
[1:35:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, I at at least one appointment will not be named.
[1:35:22] Speaker 3: But it was just like, you can't publish anything from this,
[1:35:25] Speaker 3: and I was like, like in perpetuity, and I was
[1:35:28] Speaker 3: like I cancel it because I was like, I why
[1:35:33] Speaker 3: would I do that. I'm here to share information about
[1:35:35] Speaker 3: video games and it's been interesting. I feel like people
[1:35:39] Speaker 3: are continuing to figure out what they get from Summer
[1:35:43] Speaker 3: Game Fest. Because Tryer was on here on the last
[1:35:46] Speaker 3: segment saying a lot of devs can still show up
[1:35:49] Speaker 3: at something like the Game Awards or Summer Game Fest
[1:35:51] Speaker 3: and have a life changing moment, have a completely like
[1:35:57] Speaker 3: career shifting moment of launching their game or their project
[1:36:01] Speaker 3: into a place where they can get their funding, they
[1:36:02] Speaker 3: can get a publisher, they get in front of the
[1:36:04] Speaker 3: public size, and all those things still exist. But Summer
[1:36:08] Speaker 3: Game Fest itself, the apparatus still feels a little strange
[1:36:11] Speaker 3: to me, like it's kind of in between two worlds.
[1:36:14] Speaker 10: I kind of wonder if, like this year is an aberration,
[1:36:17] Speaker 10: like Agta six size aberration of people just being like,
[1:36:21] Speaker 10: we know that at a certain point in the year
[1:36:24] Speaker 10: there will just be nothing else that anyone is talking about,
[1:36:26] Speaker 10: so we have to just like really play this in
[1:36:29] Speaker 10: a certain way. But also, like, I don't know, man,
[1:36:32] Speaker 10: I asked two questions about Code Veronica today, and I
[1:36:36] Speaker 10: would love to be able to like just write an
[1:36:38] Speaker 10: article about those questions, but I can't because we're all
[1:36:41] Speaker 10: waiting till Wednesday to do it. But at the Wednesday
[1:36:44] Speaker 10: that was before this airs, I guess.
[1:36:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so Wednesday two days pass, read those articles, Yeah,
[1:36:49] Speaker 3: got these articles speaking of let's run down the coush
[1:36:52] Speaker 3: one more time, Jesse, where can the folks find you?

[1:37:15] Speaker 10: We have a Spotify now do we have Spotify?
[1:37:16] Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, that's the other thing we've been doing.
[1:37:18] Speaker 4: We've been asking a lot of our devs what song
[1:37:20] Speaker 4: is like, what's been their song of their development cycle.
[1:37:22] Speaker 3: We got a couple good answers out of that. That's
[1:37:25] Speaker 3: making an SGF playlist. That's wonderful, Amron, same for.
[1:37:28] Speaker 10: You almost everything he just said. But also if you
[1:37:32] Speaker 10: want to find me on social media, it's imoroncon dot

[1:37:56] Speaker 3: across two different nights, but don't go far. The GI

[1:38:36] Speaker 1: been an excellent, an excellent show. It's been exciting to
[1:38:39] Speaker 1: have so many awesome guests, and we are running out
[1:38:42] Speaker 1: the show with another excellent panel of guests. Hi yah, Yeah,
[1:38:46] Speaker 1: I will start on the end. Former Game Informer now
[1:38:49] Speaker 1: Indianformer dot Com Chill Groat. Hello, Hello everybody.
[1:38:53] Speaker 5: I love that we got the blue arms just to
[1:38:56] Speaker 5: match our outfits.
[1:38:58] Speaker 13: Yes, yes, except mine because I didn't get them lujeans.
[1:39:04] Speaker 1: Blue jeans, come on, yeah, Gianna Garcia, Hello, min Max Hi.
[1:39:08] Speaker 14: Excited to be here.
[1:39:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, excited to have you. And lastly, YouTube creator.
[1:39:13] Speaker 12: Yes, lit's the last what's the last?
[1:39:15] Speaker 1: Hello? How are you?
[1:39:16] Speaker 12: YouTuber?
[1:39:17] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[1:39:18] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[1:39:19] Speaker 1: Good?
[1:39:19] Speaker 2: Good?
[1:39:20] Speaker 1: Uh so yeah, last day of SGF was today. It
[1:39:24] Speaker 1: was a pretty light day for me. It was kind
[1:39:26] Speaker 1: of awesome.
[1:39:26] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[1:39:27] Speaker 1: So I played a lot this weekend. I think Slap
[1:39:30] Speaker 1: Out of It was probably one of my highlights. I
[1:39:32] Speaker 1: was the first, the first game I played at the show,
[1:39:34] Speaker 1: and I think probably my favorite. But listen, what about you?
[1:39:38] Speaker 1: What have been some of your favorites? This is your
[1:39:40] Speaker 1: first SGF, I think you were telling me the other night.
[1:39:42] Speaker 13: Maybe, yes, this is my very first time attending. Yes, yeah,
[1:39:46] Speaker 13: there was. I think from what I heard from other people,
[1:39:49] Speaker 13: a lot more YouTuber creators type of you know people
[1:39:53] Speaker 13: like that this year, and I feel like I was
[1:39:55] Speaker 13: a part of that little wave. So I felt really
[1:39:58] Speaker 13: honored and excited to come in, show up and get
[1:40:00] Speaker 13: to play a lot of really amazing demos. One of
[1:40:03] Speaker 13: my favorite things that I played was probably Pedal Runner.
[1:40:06] Speaker 14: Yeah, Oh my gosh.
[1:40:07] Speaker 12: It was so great.
[1:40:08] Speaker 13: It was like essentially their spiel and their pitch was Pokemon.
[1:40:13] Speaker 13: But if the battles were warrior Ware mini games.
[1:40:16] Speaker 1: I love Warrio.
[1:40:17] Speaker 13: Where the second that that started happening to me, I
[1:40:21] Speaker 13: was like, whoa, Oh my gosh, this is so great
[1:40:23] Speaker 13: because I didn't know about this game before I showed up,
[1:40:26] Speaker 13: and so yeah, that was a really pleasant surprise. It
[1:40:29] Speaker 13: was actually the very first thing that I played when
[1:40:31] Speaker 13: I arrived, so the first day that was great.
[1:40:34] Speaker 5: I really wanted to get your opinion on Grave Seasons.
[1:40:37] Speaker 5: Did you get a chance?
[1:40:38] Speaker 13: Oh yes, yes, that's actually like the main reason I
[1:40:41] Speaker 13: wanted to come. I've been watching that game forever. I
[1:40:45] Speaker 13: actually I refer to your article all the time.
[1:40:48] Speaker 7: This is not a game.
[1:40:48] Speaker 13: Yeah yeah, fan growling over here, yes, but yeah, no,
[1:40:53] Speaker 13: I admire your work and I really appreciate that article
[1:40:56] Speaker 13: as well. And I just was always excited for Grape
[1:41:01] Speaker 13: Seasons because it seemed like it was doing a little
[1:41:03] Speaker 13: bit more of a transformative thing with the farming sim genre,
[1:41:07] Speaker 13: adding on the creepy horror elements and the murder mystery.
[1:41:12] Speaker 13: I have been anticipating this for years, so finally getting
[1:41:15] Speaker 13: my hands on it, I enjoyed the demo.
[1:41:17] Speaker 14: I thought it was great.
[1:41:18] Speaker 13: It's really hard to showcase a game that you have
[1:41:21] Speaker 13: to sink, you know, a good five in game days
[1:41:25] Speaker 13: to really get into the meat and potatoes and you know,
[1:41:30] Speaker 13: not getting to know the characters before the.
[1:41:33] Speaker 12: Inciting incident happens.
[1:41:35] Speaker 13: Essentially that might be yes, whatever that might be. It
[1:41:39] Speaker 13: was a little bit like, Okay, yeah, no, we're we're.
[1:41:42] Speaker 13: The purpose of this demo is to kind of just
[1:41:43] Speaker 13: get a feel of the art style and the game,
[1:41:46] Speaker 13: and you know, I think a lot of people are
[1:41:49] Speaker 13: very familiar with farming sims, but maybe aren't keeping up
[1:41:52] Speaker 13: with the genre very much.
[1:41:53] Speaker 5: I'm so ready to talk about this because I had
[1:41:56] Speaker 5: a friend at the mix. He played and he didn't
[1:42:00] Speaker 5: know what Grave Seasons was. So he's playing and he
[1:42:04] Speaker 5: was like, oh, yeah, I'm enjoying the I'm farming and
[1:42:07] Speaker 5: I'm fishing. And I'm like, oh, you don't know what's
[1:42:10] Speaker 5: about the hash. So I'm just like sitting back and
[1:42:14] Speaker 5: and kind of cackling. He's like, why are you Why
[1:42:17] Speaker 5: are you laughing like that? And then we got to
[1:42:19] Speaker 5: the I don't know if I want to spoil it,
[1:42:21] Speaker 5: but like the moment the moment, and he was WHOA, yes,
[1:42:27] Speaker 5: and I think I got it on Gama. So it's
[1:42:29] Speaker 5: going up somewhere.
[1:42:30] Speaker 13: It's so interesting and I'm excited for it because I'm
[1:42:33] Speaker 13: just looking for something fresh, you.
[1:42:35] Speaker 1: Know, totally there's this one. I get this one confused
[1:42:37] Speaker 1: with Never Way.
[1:42:38] Speaker 9: Yeah.
[1:42:39] Speaker 15: Yeah, they are like two games, like a very similar style,
[1:42:42] Speaker 15: but never Ways first person.
[1:42:43] Speaker 5: Yes, this Way is kind of more top down.
[1:42:48] Speaker 1: Okay, there's It's been interesting how there's a couple of
[1:42:51] Speaker 1: different lines. There's a couple like horror farming and games.
[1:42:53] Speaker 14: Now you might be thinking it never ends his way
[1:42:56] Speaker 14: never ended, Yeah, but mixed.
[1:42:58] Speaker 15: They're like in that cozy horror like genre, which I
[1:43:02] Speaker 15: feel like that's definitely gained a lot of popularity in
[1:43:04] Speaker 15: the last like year or so, kind of like what
[1:43:06] Speaker 15: else can we do with this formula and thinking of
[1:43:08] Speaker 15: like ways to switch it up, but you know, with
[1:43:10] Speaker 15: great Seasons. I really liked that they it's kind of
[1:43:13] Speaker 15: spliced up their demo, at least they did last year.
[1:43:14] Speaker 15: I assume it might have been the same this year,
[1:43:16] Speaker 15: kind of showing you a lot like at once and
[1:43:20] Speaker 15: not just giving you like a slice of the game.
[1:43:21] Speaker 15: I think, yeah, it's way more work for the developer.
[1:43:24] Speaker 15: But like you know, we talk about this all the
[1:43:25] Speaker 15: time on indie council, Like, there's such a benefit to
[1:43:27] Speaker 15: making like a specific build for like demo purposes because
[1:43:31] Speaker 15: you have such little time, you know, It's it's hard
[1:43:33] Speaker 15: to like get a big.
[1:43:34] Speaker 14: Sense of someone's game, especially one like that.
[1:43:36] Speaker 13: Yeah, something you kind of got to like really sit
[1:43:38] Speaker 13: down and wait for it to yea heat up a
[1:43:41] Speaker 13: little bit. It's like, how do you show this off
[1:43:43] Speaker 13: in thirty minutes?
[1:43:44] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:43:45] Speaker 13: Luckily, like I was already there, so hype and so excited,
[1:43:48] Speaker 13: and so just getting my hands on it for the
[1:43:50] Speaker 13: first time was really cool.
[1:43:52] Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, speaking of the creepy cozy emergence that's coming out,
[1:43:56] Speaker 5: I played Ractored Blooms Okay, oh, I don't are really fun.
[1:43:59] Speaker 6: I don't know this one.
[1:44:01] Speaker 5: It is essentially a little creepier on the onset in
[1:44:06] Speaker 5: Grave Seasons, and it is a more naturalistic style. But
[1:44:11] Speaker 5: it is the one that I played this year at
[1:44:15] Speaker 5: Summer Game Fest. I at one point was so happy
[1:44:20] Speaker 5: to return to a creepy church because where I'd just
[1:44:23] Speaker 5: come from freaking out so bad?
[1:44:25] Speaker 1: Is this the one from the developer who made that
[1:44:28] Speaker 1: game about the Fox? Am I making any sense? From
[1:44:32] Speaker 1: like twenty seventeen, No, Okay, there was like a breakout.
[1:44:37] Speaker 1: I'm like obsessed with devlogs on YouTube, and there was
[1:44:41] Speaker 1: one of the like breakout early devlog creators. I'm blanking
[1:44:46] Speaker 1: on his name, but he released I think it was
[1:44:48] Speaker 1: called like the Last at the Last Campfire. Oh n no,
[1:44:53] Speaker 1: it's all right, just sit here and we guess I know, right.
[1:44:58] Speaker 13: Hey, yeah, all of our brains must be broken up.
[1:45:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, because there should really be a journalist in the
[1:45:03] Speaker 1: room to the other thing. Okay, but I think I
[1:45:09] Speaker 1: think they like they had gone and made like one
[1:45:12] Speaker 1: of these horror kind of farming games. But yeah, it's
[1:45:17] Speaker 1: just it's interesting to see, like you said, Janet, like
[1:45:20] Speaker 1: it's starting to evolve. I do think it's funny, how Like,
[1:45:22] Speaker 1: obviously these games have been years in development, so like
[1:45:25] Speaker 1: they all kind of came to the conclusion on their own,
[1:45:28] Speaker 1: but it's funny to see them kind of come to
[1:45:30] Speaker 1: light around a similar time. But I'm excited to see
[1:45:34] Speaker 1: how I love life Sims, you know, I I tend
[1:45:38] Speaker 1: to do more of like the enjoy the Animal Crossings
[1:45:42] Speaker 1: more than like a Stardo. I love and respect started.
[1:45:46] Speaker 1: But like I think I just like the the gameplay
[1:45:49] Speaker 1: a little bit more like an animal crossing, but it's
[1:45:52] Speaker 1: cool to see kind of a bunch of different takes
[1:45:54] Speaker 1: on it. Did any of you play a game called bub.
[1:45:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, I wanted.
[1:46:03] Speaker 2: That.
[1:46:03] Speaker 3: That is.
[1:46:05] Speaker 5: One of those games that you walk out and you're like,
[1:46:08] Speaker 5: this was a game to see. And it's got really
[1:46:11] Speaker 5: word of mouth because I think when we were going in,
[1:46:13] Speaker 5: not a lot of people like had it on their radar.
[1:46:16] Speaker 1: No, no, not at all.
[1:46:17] Speaker 5: But it is so like the story behind the developer
[1:46:22] Speaker 5: is very inspiring as well, because the developer got sick
[1:46:26] Speaker 5: while making this game and is now making it as
[1:46:31] Speaker 5: much as he can with a fumbly developer and it's
[1:46:34] Speaker 5: just a two developer team. The game itself is so.
[1:46:41] Speaker 1: Art Yeah, I mean, I mean it's like it's like
[1:46:44] Speaker 1: it seems like it's paper craft that has been stand in.
[1:46:47] Speaker 5: No, it's like every single art form you can think of.
[1:46:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, rush.
[1:46:53] Speaker 5: It's got like glass. It's literally every scene is a
[1:46:58] Speaker 5: different art style and it's all really like evocative and lovely.
[1:47:03] Speaker 5: For the story. The story that we saw so far
[1:47:05] Speaker 5: in this demo was a young boy just kind of
[1:47:10] Speaker 5: narrating his early childhood.
[1:47:12] Speaker 3: Life and yeah, he makes music.
[1:47:15] Speaker 1: It seems like it's like a music studio in his basement.
[1:47:17] Speaker 5: Yeah, he's like an artist York, and he's thinking back
[1:47:20] Speaker 5: to his childhood and he's he's talking about an incident
[1:47:24] Speaker 5: where a young boy died who was in his school
[1:47:28] Speaker 5: or in his neighborhood, and then his mother realizing, oh,
[1:47:33] Speaker 5: I could lose my children at any time, and having
[1:47:37] Speaker 5: that like realization and starting to like get a stronger
[1:47:41] Speaker 5: grip on her kids because of it, and how that
[1:47:45] Speaker 5: was sort of affecting him, and just the whole time.
[1:47:48] Speaker 5: It's not like you're playing the story. It's just like
[1:47:52] Speaker 5: really lovely art evocative scenes that are like when he
[1:47:57] Speaker 5: was talking about, oh, the boy drowned.
[1:47:59] Speaker 1: And I teared up at this scene, and that that
[1:48:02] Speaker 1: that scene in that final sequence when you're like kind
[1:48:05] Speaker 1: of riding the bike and the music hits. I asked
[1:48:09] Speaker 1: the developer like if he was doing the music, because
[1:48:12] Speaker 1: I kind of got that sense. But it turns out
[1:48:14] Speaker 1: it's actually just like an indie pop artist that he
[1:48:19] Speaker 1: really loves the music of. And they have like a
[1:48:21] Speaker 1: bartering system, so the developer will make music videos for
[1:48:25] Speaker 1: the indie artist and then in exchange for using the
[1:48:29] Speaker 1: music and in their game Yeah, it was like really touching.
[1:48:33] Speaker 1: I I I it hit very hard, it was very poignant,
[1:48:38] Speaker 1: but in a total surprise, Like I just it's like
[1:48:42] Speaker 1: really nice when you there's like a gentle game experience
[1:48:46] Speaker 1: that shows like this, Yeah, because there's so much you know,
[1:48:49] Speaker 1: like I played tomb Raider and like all these like more.
[1:48:54] Speaker 2: You know, action and blood.
[1:48:56] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and there's like a lot of really cutesy games.
[1:48:59] Speaker 1: But then it's like it's rare and it's it's a
[1:49:01] Speaker 1: nice kind of experience when you get to like kind
[1:49:05] Speaker 1: of escape into one of these, which is it's cool.
[1:49:08] Speaker 1: But Janet, what what was your favorite game of the
[1:49:12] Speaker 1: show or one one that you want to dig into
[1:49:14] Speaker 1: you more.
[1:49:15] Speaker 15: I guess it's tough. I feel like you bringing up
[1:49:18] Speaker 15: the like Papercraft element. I do want to shout out
[1:49:20] Speaker 15: out of words because that also, which is like another
[1:49:23] Speaker 15: I mean everyone's kind of like mimicking and being inspired
[1:49:26] Speaker 15: by like so many different people. And I feel like
[1:49:28] Speaker 15: we were also seeing a lot of like handcrafted indie
[1:49:31] Speaker 15: games come out where it's like what if we were
[1:49:33] Speaker 15: like a little bit more creative with the medium and
[1:49:35] Speaker 15: did stuff like in real life and then kind of
[1:49:37] Speaker 15: scanned it in or did stop motion or whatever, so
[1:49:40] Speaker 15: like bub is in that veame of like a mixed
[1:49:42] Speaker 15: media game and out of words is like they like
[1:49:45] Speaker 15: handcraft like the creatures, and then it's all like stop
[1:49:48] Speaker 15: motion and it looks really nice and it feels.
[1:49:50] Speaker 14: Like comfortable to play.
[1:49:52] Speaker 15: The closest thing I can compare it to you, like
[1:49:54] Speaker 15: mechanically is sort of a more low key version of
[1:49:57] Speaker 15: like Unravel, which is to say, okay, it's almost more
[1:50:00] Speaker 15: of like an experiential platform er, like I don't think
[1:50:02] Speaker 15: it's going to be like pushing back a lop and
[1:50:03] Speaker 15: its co op, and it had like they shot off
[1:50:05] Speaker 15: this like really fun gravity flip mechanic where you like
[1:50:08] Speaker 15: would toss a little guy like between the two of
[1:50:10] Speaker 15: you to give each other the ability to flip, and
[1:50:13] Speaker 15: like that kind of in the sequence they showed us
[1:50:15] Speaker 15: culminated in like a moment where you're essentially flying to
[1:50:18] Speaker 15: the sky with each other by like tossing it back
[1:50:20] Speaker 15: and forth, and it's like just a really nice like
[1:50:22] Speaker 15: way of Hey, you played the level probably verbalizing things
[1:50:25] Speaker 15: to each other, and now you get to the point
[1:50:26] Speaker 15: where you can just like play, you know, whether it's
[1:50:28] Speaker 15: couch co op or online and just like get a
[1:50:31] Speaker 15: sense of the rhythm.
[1:50:32] Speaker 14: And I thought that was like really nice, really beautiful.
[1:50:34] Speaker 15: It's so tough to make a game that has like
[1:50:36] Speaker 15: a really striking art style but also like feels good
[1:50:39] Speaker 15: on the sticks. And I know sometimes people downplay like
[1:50:42] Speaker 15: the mechanics of games that are more like in that
[1:50:44] Speaker 15: artsy realm, but like it's so important to like have
[1:50:46] Speaker 15: a good walk feel and a game if your game
[1:50:48] Speaker 15: is about walking, you know, and that's hard to do.
[1:50:50] Speaker 15: And I think they like really nailed it on that.
[1:50:52] Speaker 15: So that's when I want to shut out for sure.
[1:50:55] Speaker 5: Well, I want to talk about out of word spe
[1:50:59] Speaker 5: I asked them what they made. There were like a
[1:51:01] Speaker 5: bunch of sand dooms, and I couldn't place them, Like
[1:51:04] Speaker 5: is that clay. They'd literally taken knives to books and
[1:51:08] Speaker 5: just like hit the pages down and then put sand over.
[1:51:11] Speaker 5: That's gorgeous. I love that. That was one of my
[1:51:15] Speaker 5: absolute favorite games.
[1:51:16] Speaker 1: I just imagine like some like dilapidated scanner in an
[1:51:20] Speaker 1: office that has just been like blown to bits with
[1:51:23] Speaker 1: like you know, pain and sand, and I imagine that's
[1:51:26] Speaker 1: how they get into the game. Oh, I guess they
[1:51:27] Speaker 1: could be like photography or something.
[1:51:29] Speaker 3: But yeah, it's kind.
[1:51:30] Speaker 15: Of like it's almost that they create like stages like
[1:51:32] Speaker 15: in My Life, Oh got it film, I wanted to.
[1:51:34] Speaker 5: Be just a paper copier.
[1:51:38] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:51:38] Speaker 15: I mean that was another one where like to their credit,
[1:51:40] Speaker 15: they like cut something very specific for like that show
[1:51:42] Speaker 15: where they're like, here's this level, here's like a later level,
[1:51:45] Speaker 15: here's a middle, and it's like you don't have to
[1:51:46] Speaker 15: show your game like chronologically, like you can show it
[1:51:49] Speaker 15: however you feel best conveyed.
[1:51:52] Speaker 14: Like what makes your game special?
[1:51:53] Speaker 15: And I you know, again, extra work, you know, extra funny,
[1:51:56] Speaker 15: extra time. But like if you can do that, like
[1:51:58] Speaker 15: it can go such a long way.
[1:51:59] Speaker 9: Yeah.
[1:52:00] Speaker 5: On the other end of games where it's not like
[1:52:05] Speaker 5: action blood sort of game, I want to shout out
[1:52:08] Speaker 5: Mister Records.
[1:52:09] Speaker 12: That was the Grandpa game. I wanted to play that.
[1:52:13] Speaker 14: Like everyone's talk about miss Records.
[1:52:15] Speaker 5: I think it was a lot of people missed out
[1:52:17] Speaker 5: on it because I missed out on I suspected it
[1:52:19] Speaker 5: was going to be in the day of the devs
[1:52:21] Speaker 5: section because it was in the day of Viv's showcase.
[1:52:26] Speaker 5: But it is so fantastic. It's got like the art
[1:52:30] Speaker 5: of the Plucky Squire. It's that kind of beautiful pop cartoon.
[1:52:36] Speaker 5: And then the gameplay is split between like it's not
[1:52:41] Speaker 5: really Guitar Hero, but like adventure Guitar Hero, I guess
[1:52:45] Speaker 5: you could say, and then store management because you're running
[1:52:50] Speaker 5: a record shop. So every record that you get for
[1:52:54] Speaker 5: the shop, you play through this like imaginary world of
[1:52:58] Speaker 5: music where everything's to the rhythm and you're like kicking
[1:53:02] Speaker 5: ghosts and jumping over things like to the beat, and
[1:53:05] Speaker 5: it's just absolutely beautiful. I'm not great at it. I'm
[1:53:09] Speaker 5: not gonna lie. So I unlocked one hard level and
[1:53:13] Speaker 5: I was like, try this, immediately died. I'm like, okay,
[1:53:16] Speaker 5: never mind.
[1:53:17] Speaker 2: Never mind, I'm going back to the easy.
[1:53:20] Speaker 5: So it is just every single song is amazing, and
[1:53:26] Speaker 5: they've got so many different songs styles as well, like
[1:53:29] Speaker 5: blues and funk and rap, and it's all just fantastic.
[1:53:33] Speaker 5: And then once you've like completed a level, you then
[1:53:36] Speaker 5: get the record to put into your store. You open
[1:53:39] Speaker 5: up in the morning, people come in and there it's
[1:53:41] Speaker 5: kind of hey, I want a game, or I want
[1:53:47] Speaker 5: to music that I remember for my childhood. It's like
[1:53:50] Speaker 5: an old woman, so you're looking for clues as to
[1:53:54] Speaker 5: what they want. So you can give it to them
[1:53:56] Speaker 5: so you can make more money to buy more records.
[1:53:58] Speaker 5: When you get more records, you open up more levels
[1:54:01] Speaker 5: and you go from there and it's a really really
[1:54:03] Speaker 5: satisfying game loop as far as I can see so far.
[1:54:06] Speaker 1: Love it. Lets what about you most another one of
[1:54:10] Speaker 1: your favorites?
[1:54:13] Speaker 3: I don't think can we talk about orbitals?
[1:54:15] Speaker 5: No?
[1:54:16] Speaker 1: No?
[1:54:16] Speaker 12: Yeah, No, that's like way late.
[1:54:18] Speaker 1: Yeah that's a bummer.
[1:54:20] Speaker 9: Yeah.
[1:54:22] Speaker 1: Or actually I'd like to ask you like more about like, uh,
[1:54:25] Speaker 1: what's it like been like your first year sgief, Because
[1:54:28] Speaker 1: for me, I felt like last year was a little stagnant,
[1:54:32] Speaker 1: Like the show kind of continued to like get physically bigger,
[1:54:36] Speaker 1: but I felt like it wasn't filled. Yeah, and this
[1:54:39] Speaker 1: year it's been so lively and honestly really nice, seeing
[1:54:42] Speaker 1: so much energy in the room. But I'm curious, like,
[1:54:45] Speaker 1: from your perspective, what that's been like.
[1:54:48] Speaker 14: It was amazing. I really loved it.
[1:54:51] Speaker 13: I loved how many opportunities there were to play games
[1:54:55] Speaker 13: and how the whole thing was set up. It just
[1:54:59] Speaker 13: felt like a very well run event that it was
[1:55:03] Speaker 13: like the most amount of games that you can play
[1:55:05] Speaker 13: in a day. You know, It's really great because you
[1:55:08] Speaker 13: really can get to so much instead of like a
[1:55:12] Speaker 13: typical convention when you're walking around and you got to
[1:55:14] Speaker 13: go stand in the lot and stuff. Right, So that
[1:55:17] Speaker 13: was something that I noticed right off the bat that
[1:55:19] Speaker 13: I was like, wow, I really enjoyed this experience because
[1:55:22] Speaker 13: it also led me to open myself up a bit
[1:55:24] Speaker 13: more to genres that I don't typically play. So I
[1:55:27] Speaker 13: was able to like, you know, kind of come out
[1:55:30] Speaker 13: of my comfort zone a little bit. But also in general, like,
[1:55:34] Speaker 13: everybody's really nice, everybody's really sweet and cool, and yeah,
[1:55:40] Speaker 13: navigating it as a creator was kind of interesting as well,
[1:55:44] Speaker 13: because I would like talk to some of my creator
[1:55:46] Speaker 13: friends that were there and they're like, oh, yeah, I'm
[1:55:48] Speaker 13: skipping out on the show because I'm going to record
[1:55:51] Speaker 13: from home and get a video out as soon as possible.
[1:55:54] Speaker 13: I'm like, oh, that's like a really good idea, So dang,
[1:55:57] Speaker 13: I should have thought of that mebe So my first
[1:56:00] Speaker 13: year it was a little rough around the edges where
[1:56:02] Speaker 13: it's like, oh, man, I should have maybe been doing
[1:56:05] Speaker 13: more stuff in the moment to be more topable. But
[1:56:10] Speaker 13: I learned a lot right of just like you know,
[1:56:14] Speaker 13: what I would do next year.
[1:56:16] Speaker 1: Totally I mean I feel that on the press side
[1:56:19] Speaker 1: of things, right, Eric off screen and I have been like, oh, man,
[1:56:23] Speaker 1: like how do we like? It's always it's a constant
[1:56:26] Speaker 1: battle of like I'm sure you too relate to this, like, oh,
[1:56:30] Speaker 1: I've got all this stuff to talk about, Sullivan's bargo embargoed.
[1:56:34] Speaker 1: Some of it's not, but I have to like keep
[1:56:36] Speaker 1: the engine rolling to get more content.
[1:56:38] Speaker 6: But when do I put it up?
[1:56:40] Speaker 13: Yeah, it was a delicate balance. But the best part
[1:56:44] Speaker 13: was definitely meeting new people and going out there and
[1:56:48] Speaker 13: playing all the games.
[1:56:49] Speaker 5: Yeah, wonderful experience.
[1:56:53] Speaker 9: Yeah, it's good to hear.
[1:56:54] Speaker 3: Jane.
[1:56:54] Speaker 1: What do you think about the show this year?
[1:56:56] Speaker 14: Yeah, I think it was like a stronger year.
[1:56:57] Speaker 15: I mean I think, you know, some years are just
[1:56:59] Speaker 15: like bigger on like at least the Triple A front. Obviously,
[1:57:01] Speaker 15: like there's always like gonna be good indie games coming out. Sure,
[1:57:05] Speaker 15: there are like years that have like the marquee indie title,
[1:57:08] Speaker 15: like you know this year with look Me to.
[1:57:09] Speaker 2: The Hollower Road.
[1:57:10] Speaker 15: It's like there are always like big indies that like
[1:57:12] Speaker 15: take the spot out of a year. But for Triple A,
[1:57:14] Speaker 15: I felt like there's definitely been a lot more like
[1:57:16] Speaker 15: Capcom has really been on a roll. So like them
[1:57:18] Speaker 15: having a presence there, I think it's really interesting that
[1:57:21] Speaker 15: Nintendo has.
[1:57:21] Speaker 14: Had a presence here for the first time. I think
[1:57:23] Speaker 14: that Yeah.
[1:57:24] Speaker 15: Kind of to me, that says like, okay, like where
[1:57:27] Speaker 15: are they at, like strategy wise, Like you know, obviously
[1:57:29] Speaker 15: they were just showing like third party, but it's like, Okay,
[1:57:32] Speaker 15: they're kind of making that effort.
[1:57:33] Speaker 14: It's year two of switch to where are we at
[1:57:36] Speaker 14: with this console?
[1:57:37] Speaker 15: I know, like on the player side, Like from my perspective,
[1:57:40] Speaker 15: I feel like we kind of maybe need a little
[1:57:42] Speaker 15: bit more of.
[1:57:43] Speaker 14: An oom from Nintendo.
[1:57:45] Speaker 15: So maybe this is them trying to say, hey, you
[1:57:47] Speaker 15: know again intenda thirty five support. I've been hearing about it,
[1:57:49] Speaker 15: I'm saying for as long as there've been a Nintendo fan.
[1:57:52] Speaker 15: So it's like, Okay, they're making that effort of trying
[1:57:54] Speaker 15: to like, you know, be here and be in this space.
[1:57:56] Speaker 14: They're also like notably, you know, they're one of the
[1:57:59] Speaker 14: Big three.
[1:57:59] Speaker 15: So there's always that question of like when we think
[1:58:01] Speaker 15: of what made E three three, it's the participation of
[1:58:03] Speaker 15: all these big publishers SGEF has never quite had that
[1:58:07] Speaker 15: like we've had PlayStation here.
[1:58:08] Speaker 1: At times the Horizon.
[1:58:10] Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, whatever was that last year that it came out?
[1:58:15] Speaker 15: Years but yeah, it's like, okay, it's kind of like,
[1:58:17] Speaker 15: will will we get to that point to eventually build
[1:58:19] Speaker 15: it up where it would be like the major publishers
[1:58:22] Speaker 15: are there on campus or you know, and obviously Xbox
[1:58:25] Speaker 15: does do stuff, but they do it off campus, so
[1:58:26] Speaker 15: it's not you know, seeing how the show evolves and
[1:58:28] Speaker 15: how much publishers are paying attention to the fact that
[1:58:30] Speaker 15: the Nintendo's here, I think is a good sign for
[1:58:33] Speaker 15: SGF because it says that they cared enough about this
[1:58:35] Speaker 15: show to say, like we want to have a presence there.
[1:58:38] Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, for saving Direct.
[1:58:42] Speaker 15: Yeah yeah, I definitely like like a little a little
[1:58:45] Speaker 15: bit of underwhelming of like a vibe because it is
[1:58:48] Speaker 15: just like a lot of you know, multiplatform stuff things
[1:58:50] Speaker 15: in other places. But like the fact that they're there
[1:58:52] Speaker 15: like does say something. It means they like, yeah in
[1:58:56] Speaker 15: the show. So yeah, it's interesting.
[1:58:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, Joe, what about you.
[1:59:01] Speaker 5: I was listening to you talk about like I'm going
[1:59:03] Speaker 5: to know for for next year and just thinking about
[1:59:05] Speaker 5: all of the like the lessons I learned last year
[1:59:08] Speaker 5: that I don't pay attention.
[1:59:10] Speaker 15: I'll like write down like in my notes, like I'll
[1:59:12] Speaker 15: do like a little postmart for myself, and then I
[1:59:14] Speaker 15: like never rew.
[1:59:16] Speaker 13: So it's like if you can just reread, just say
[1:59:19] Speaker 13: right now, never scheduling anything back to back ever again.
[1:59:22] Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's horrible.
[1:59:27] Speaker 13: Yes, so yeah, I know that was really rough because
[1:59:31] Speaker 13: I didn't know where anything was.
[1:59:33] Speaker 1: So yeah, and they change it every year.
[1:59:36] Speaker 7: You know, Oh my gosh.
[1:59:38] Speaker 13: Yeah no, so yeah, definitely never doing that again. And
[1:59:41] Speaker 13: a couple other little lessons.
[1:59:42] Speaker 14: Yeah, like I.
[1:59:43] Speaker 13: Didn't know Xbox was going to be primarily off campus.
[1:59:46] Speaker 14: Yeah yeah, mis ideat Xbox, which can be confusing. This
[1:59:50] Speaker 14: part of my ex is there.
[1:59:51] Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, so that's like, oh, keep on the lookout, right.
[1:59:54] Speaker 5: Yeah, speaking of that id at Xbox area, there are
[1:59:57] Speaker 5: a lot of really good games. We had Blood Dungeon there.
[2:00:03] Speaker 3: Blood Dungeon.
[2:00:03] Speaker 1: I think it's just like a slap in the face
[2:00:06] Speaker 1: to like the concept, the notion that like, oh I
[2:00:09] Speaker 1: have to rely on like AI too, because I like
[2:00:11] Speaker 1: and obviously very talented developers have worked on this. They
[2:00:13] Speaker 1: made wheel World, they made nid Hog, like, these are
[2:00:17] Speaker 1: excellent game developers, but even somebody, yeah, this was my
[2:00:20] Speaker 1: game that I worked on when I was like winding
[2:00:22] Speaker 1: down at night and I just was like it was
[2:00:24] Speaker 1: kind of a relaxing experience. Then I found a musician
[2:00:27] Speaker 1: to do that this it's actually the real world. Uh yeah,
[2:00:31] Speaker 1: composer who's like doing audio direction. But like the game
[2:00:34] Speaker 1: itself has this vibe not quite like pain, yeah, but
[2:00:40] Speaker 1: like it reminds me of like the early days of
[2:00:43] Speaker 1: like Xbox Live Arcade totally, and the game itself is
[2:00:47] Speaker 1: like really excellent, but it's like you can put a
[2:00:50] Speaker 1: game out and it can be incredible preview incredible at least,
[2:00:54] Speaker 1: because I think it's probably my maybe my game of show. Yeah,
[2:00:58] Speaker 1: and you know for a like AI slop like we've
[2:01:01] Speaker 1: seen in the Triple A space. So many companies, Like
[2:01:04] Speaker 1: I mean there are companies here that I don't know
[2:01:07] Speaker 1: if I can talk about doing embargo, but yeah.
[2:01:11] Speaker 3: Just like.
[2:01:13] Speaker 1: Relying on that shit.
[2:01:14] Speaker 15: Yeah, those are so many ways to make a game,
[2:01:16] Speaker 15: and like it should be you know, something that somebody
[2:01:18] Speaker 15: developers have, like that personality and that passion of like
[2:01:20] Speaker 15: what's specific to them and like what speaks to them.
[2:01:22] Speaker 15: And it's nice to play something that feels you know,
[2:01:24] Speaker 15: authored and like intentional and yeah, like Blood Dungeon was incredible.
[2:01:29] Speaker 15: I'm not the biggest like Vampire Survivors like fan necessarily
[2:01:33] Speaker 15: I've played Vampire Survivors.
[2:01:34] Speaker 1: Obviously, we play.
[2:01:35] Speaker 15: Goobies all the time, which is like kind of like
[2:01:38] Speaker 15: in that style as well. But this is like Vampire
[2:01:40] Speaker 15: Survivors meets platforming, and I love platforming and I'm really
[2:01:44] Speaker 15: good at platforming, so this.
[2:01:46] Speaker 14: Was like very smooth. But also it's like pretty friendly
[2:01:48] Speaker 14: even if.
[2:01:48] Speaker 15: You're not into platforming, because you can the fact that
[2:01:50] Speaker 15: you can kind of grapple and crawl on everything, like
[2:01:53] Speaker 15: on the walls, and they have like the ability to
[2:01:55] Speaker 15: climb on at least the level that they suggest that
[2:01:57] Speaker 15: everyone play, like the first one. They have those cages
[2:01:59] Speaker 15: from like Mario World, and it's like, oh literally, that's
[2:02:02] Speaker 15: like one of my favorite things to do in a
[2:02:04] Speaker 15: video game ever, is to be on those cages. So yeah,
[2:02:07] Speaker 15: it was just super fun, chaotic, really fun art and
[2:02:12] Speaker 15: and a great like you know in the in classic
[2:02:14] Speaker 15: Vampire Survivor style, like a great constant like Dopamine unlock,
[2:02:18] Speaker 15: Like yeah, it would be unlocking stuff like all the time.
[2:02:20] Speaker 15: It was great to like experiment with my bills I'm
[2:02:23] Speaker 15: kind of getting more into the rogue genre as well.
[2:02:25] Speaker 15: So yeah, I just really like found me at the
[2:02:27] Speaker 15: perfect time. And yeah, I really loved it. I think like, mechanically,
[2:02:31] Speaker 15: it's just such an instant click.
[2:02:32] Speaker 5: So yeah, mechanically so professional and polished. It kind of
[2:02:36] Speaker 5: belies the like the look of the deo finness kind
[2:02:39] Speaker 5: of look. Yeah, but it's so smooth, exactly the way
[2:02:42] Speaker 5: it needed to be. I was also worried about the
[2:02:46] Speaker 5: amount of just things that are going off, projectiles and things.
[2:02:50] Speaker 5: I'm like, is this going to start to show problems
[2:02:52] Speaker 5: because you know it's a demo, it's an early demo.
[2:02:54] Speaker 5: You never know if those things are going to be
[2:02:56] Speaker 5: a problem. But nothing ever slowed down, and you were
[2:02:58] Speaker 5: constantly going I loved that. At one point I found
[2:03:03] Speaker 5: a gun where I could shoot spiderwebs and I could
[2:03:05] Speaker 5: make my own. Oh so nice to like worry about
[2:03:11] Speaker 5: being trapped anywhere. Yeah, and just the synergies that they
[2:03:14] Speaker 5: had for the different things of like there were items
[2:03:18] Speaker 5: that I found that you shoot more when you're going faster,
[2:03:22] Speaker 5: and then you're getting items that make you go exactly sure, Yeah,
[2:03:25] Speaker 5: and so many different situations like that.
[2:03:28] Speaker 15: So great, which too to like clarify for people, Like
[2:03:30] Speaker 15: it's the structure is like you have like a general
[2:03:33] Speaker 15: like level, like an like almost like an arena that
[2:03:35] Speaker 15: you're going up and down. There's like ladders, there's walls,
[2:03:38] Speaker 15: and then there's also like door like kind of doorways
[2:03:41] Speaker 15: that have keys, so you have to like look and
[2:03:42] Speaker 15: find the key and then sort of trying to remember, Okay,
[2:03:45] Speaker 15: I have the green key, now where might the green
[2:03:46] Speaker 15: door be?
[2:03:48] Speaker 14: And you're just like progressing more to like find chests.
[2:03:50] Speaker 15: Some of them are just available, some of them are
[2:03:52] Speaker 15: locked behind, like the currency that's in the game, like
[2:03:54] Speaker 15: getting enough coins, and that's like the.
[2:03:57] Speaker 14: General like loop of it.
[2:03:58] Speaker 15: But the other thing that was really cool is just
[2:03:59] Speaker 15: like the anime work is very like fun and silly,
[2:04:02] Speaker 15: Like there's different characters you can choose, but like the
[2:04:04] Speaker 15: like kind of default character, like.
[2:04:05] Speaker 1: The main guy.
[2:04:06] Speaker 14: He's his arm just kind of wave like NonStop, and.
[2:04:10] Speaker 1: Like all new grounds.
[2:04:12] Speaker 15: Just like a lot of like smart little design choices
[2:04:14] Speaker 15: like this is very like almost like a last Super
[2:04:17] Speaker 15: Meat Boy. But like when you're done with like a session,
[2:04:20] Speaker 15: they mark your path because again it's like if you
[2:04:22] Speaker 15: were to zoom out, it's not the sick, but it
[2:04:25] Speaker 15: will like show like where you start and like, oh,
[2:04:27] Speaker 15: you went up the wall and then you came down,
[2:04:28] Speaker 15: then you went back up, then you went back and
[2:04:29] Speaker 15: it kind.
[2:04:30] Speaker 14: Of just like it.
[2:04:31] Speaker 15: It just feels really good to look at that and
[2:04:33] Speaker 15: see like what you've done. It also kind of takes
[2:04:35] Speaker 15: this thing out of like no matter what happens, whether
[2:04:37] Speaker 15: you like won or lost, it's like satisfying to see
[2:04:40] Speaker 15: your process. And like, I appreciate a developer that can consider,
[2:04:44] Speaker 15: like how can I make a lost condition still feel good?
[2:04:47] Speaker 15: I feel like that's a real rarity in games, and
[2:04:49] Speaker 15: this does that. So even though I didn't lose, because
[2:04:51] Speaker 15: I was really good except for the question the second.
[2:04:53] Speaker 14: Time I hear it, So yeah.
[2:04:55] Speaker 1: Yeah, I had like a supremely broken build at my
[2:04:59] Speaker 1: final eye, I got my ass whopped a couple of times,
[2:05:01] Speaker 1: but then I lucked out and I got this ability
[2:05:04] Speaker 1: that I had a jet pack. I had a button
[2:05:07] Speaker 1: that I left fire trails below. I had the fire
[2:05:10] Speaker 1: trail as well, and so that com out of the jetpack,
[2:05:12] Speaker 1: I was just raining fire and then I had fifty
[2:05:14] Speaker 1: percent extra damage when you're above an enemy, and then
[2:05:19] Speaker 1: the I could take three frames of damage for free.
[2:05:24] Speaker 1: So I was just like cruising around the map. It
[2:05:27] Speaker 1: was so fun. But yeah, Blood Dungeon, I'm a fan. Yeah,
[2:05:33] Speaker 1: I think people should go and check it out. I
[2:05:35] Speaker 1: think it'll I'm sure I think there might be like
[2:05:37] Speaker 1: a Steam demo up or I'm sure there will be
[2:05:40] Speaker 1: soon if not, but definitely wanted to look out for.
[2:05:43] Speaker 1: But let's kind of get to our closing thoughts lists overall,
[2:05:49] Speaker 1: closing thoughts on SGF.
[2:05:51] Speaker 13: Overall, I of course am just so thrilled and so
[2:05:56] Speaker 13: everything was just amazing. I felt like I played a
[2:06:01] Speaker 13: lot of things that I typically wouldn't be downloading the
[2:06:04] Speaker 13: Steam demo for just you know, for the sake of time,
[2:06:07] Speaker 13: and so it was really really great to come to
[2:06:09] Speaker 13: an event and have all of this time dedicated to
[2:06:13] Speaker 13: experiencing a little bit.
[2:06:14] Speaker 15: Of what's your like typical like genre preference and what
[2:06:17] Speaker 15: kind of thing did you like take a risk on
[2:06:18] Speaker 15: that ended up like paying off like this weekend.
[2:06:21] Speaker 13: For me, personally, I play a lot of just like
[2:06:23] Speaker 13: a general Nintendo but you know, I am really huge
[2:06:27] Speaker 13: into the farming sim genre and in general life sims.
[2:06:32] Speaker 13: I played a little bit of horror and I can't
[2:06:35] Speaker 13: recall one of them.
[2:06:36] Speaker 1: I'm too much of a baby for that.
[2:06:37] Speaker 14: I don't like horror games at all.
[2:06:39] Speaker 13: There's very specific things that I will maybe play, but
[2:06:43] Speaker 13: so not my vibe.
[2:06:46] Speaker 14: I just yeah, I get too scared and then.
[2:06:48] Speaker 13: My heart starts beaten and I'm like, okay, I gotta
[2:06:50] Speaker 13: goal lay down.
[2:06:51] Speaker 12: It's just not my favorite.
[2:06:52] Speaker 13: So yeah, I played one that was a It was
[2:06:54] Speaker 13: called Don't Fret You're Sentient Guitar, and the whole game
[2:06:58] Speaker 13: is themed to about music and a lot of like
[2:07:01] Speaker 13: the puzzles were music, but then it's also a horror
[2:07:04] Speaker 13: game and your chase was a big scary cassette thing
[2:07:07] Speaker 13: monster and I thought that was silly and fun, and
[2:07:11] Speaker 13: then I was reminded why I don't really love those
[2:07:14] Speaker 13: type of games, because I get scar Yeah, my heart
[2:07:17] Speaker 13: was raised and I had to go sit down after
[2:07:19] Speaker 13: that one. Uh and was late to my next appointment.
[2:07:21] Speaker 14: Because I was like, I can't even walk right.
[2:07:25] Speaker 13: Yeah, but uh no, yeah, getting out of my wheelhouse
[2:07:27] Speaker 13: a little bit and just trying a bunch of different things,
[2:07:30] Speaker 13: and yeah, I think, uh, for me, you know, I
[2:07:34] Speaker 13: I don't cover a lot of wide variety of games
[2:07:38] Speaker 13: and genres on my channel, so it's really nice to
[2:07:41] Speaker 13: sort of, you know, just experience a little bit of
[2:07:44] Speaker 13: a the other side of games.
[2:07:46] Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah about you.
[2:07:48] Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean another another year down, you know, another
[2:07:52] Speaker 15: year closer.
[2:07:53] Speaker 14: To the end of everything.
[2:07:54] Speaker 15: No, I mean yeah, like it's we've it's interesting to
[2:07:57] Speaker 15: be like somewhere on the ground floor in a way.
[2:08:00] Speaker 15: You know, I went to the last D three that
[2:08:02] Speaker 15: they had like E three twenty nineteen, and now to
[2:08:05] Speaker 15: like be at SGF and get to see it like
[2:08:07] Speaker 15: go and change and develop. Like I think it's easy
[2:08:09] Speaker 15: to be negative about the game space. You know, there's
[2:08:12] Speaker 15: obviously been like many reasons to be like layoffs, closures,
[2:08:16] Speaker 15: Like it's inherently you know, not a like super well
[2:08:19] Speaker 15: paying industry, Like there's many struggles. But for all of that,
[2:08:22] Speaker 15: like it's nice to be reminded that, like there's still
[2:08:24] Speaker 15: newness to be celebrated, Like there's new games coming out,
[2:08:27] Speaker 15: there's new studios being formed, there's new people trying things.
[2:08:30] Speaker 15: There's new you know, independent outlets like popping up and
[2:08:33] Speaker 15: people who were like out here repping their blogs, like
[2:08:36] Speaker 15: doing freelance, but also saying like hey here's something I
[2:08:38] Speaker 15: made myself and like putting themselves out there, and like,
[2:08:41] Speaker 15: as much as it is kind of easy to be
[2:08:43] Speaker 15: cynical about something like SGF, it is cool to be like,
[2:08:45] Speaker 15: I was here from the start. I don't know how
[2:08:47] Speaker 15: long SGF will be here, but it's cool to like
[2:08:49] Speaker 15: get to have those stories, even as like, you know,
[2:08:51] Speaker 15: some people would doublest like one of the not later
[2:08:54] Speaker 15: generations of games media, but you know, there's kind of
[2:08:56] Speaker 15: been tiers of people that have gone through games still
[2:08:59] Speaker 15: aren't that old, and for there to be still like
[2:09:01] Speaker 15: a new show that like, I like to think that
[2:09:03] Speaker 15: years from now, you know, we can all say oh, yeah,
[2:09:05] Speaker 15: I was there at as she Have twenty twenty six
[2:09:07] Speaker 15: and have that be like, oh my god, that was
[2:09:09] Speaker 15: so long ago. And to have that and to be
[2:09:11] Speaker 15: part of that history, I think that's really cool. So
[2:09:14] Speaker 15: I agree, Yeah, it's a nice thing to think about.
[2:09:17] Speaker 5: Yeah, to be a little more pessimistic.
[2:09:20] Speaker 1: No, I'm gonna on a positive notes.
[2:09:24] Speaker 5: Cut it over, Nodard, just cut me out why it's
[2:09:26] Speaker 5: still not in this No, no, no dumbing over.
[2:09:29] Speaker 14: I agree with Chann Okay.
[2:09:31] Speaker 5: Thinking about time for one of the Xbox indies, the
[2:09:35] Speaker 5: PR person who was wrapping them came up to me,
[2:09:37] Speaker 5: it was like these kids who are making this game
[2:09:39] Speaker 5: and they're full of grown adults but weren't around for
[2:09:43] Speaker 5: the E three era. I'm like, oh no, I'm getting
[2:09:47] Speaker 5: way too old. But that was bad Magpie, which.
[2:09:52] Speaker 14: I'm also a really cool game.
[2:09:54] Speaker 15: Yeah, I like.
[2:09:55] Speaker 5: Super excited for that. But yeah, I think it is
[2:09:58] Speaker 5: just like you were saying, coming here, there's an energy there.
[2:10:01] Speaker 5: It's seeing other people and reminding yourself like, oh, this
[2:10:05] Speaker 5: is why we do this. Everybody here has that kind
[2:10:09] Speaker 5: of passion, whether it's making games or writing about games,
[2:10:12] Speaker 5: making content. Like we're all excited to be here and
[2:10:17] Speaker 5: to see each other, and it like refills my tank
[2:10:20] Speaker 5: for like the rest of the year.
[2:10:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, totally agree. I think, you know, I've been
[2:10:26] Speaker 1: really I mean, game Informers shut down in twenty twenty
[2:10:29] Speaker 1: four and then we all got rehired and like we
[2:10:32] Speaker 1: were back. We were at SGF. I guess we haven't
[2:10:34] Speaker 1: missed an SGF because of the timing of it all.
[2:10:37] Speaker 1: But last year we were like a month or two
[2:10:39] Speaker 1: back and it all was like, oh, I don't you know,
[2:10:42] Speaker 1: is this going to be our last one? And then
[2:10:44] Speaker 1: of course we've like Game of four is doing very well,
[2:10:48] Speaker 1: and it's just like I'm in a place of gratitude.
[2:10:52] Speaker 1: Like I don't you know, games media is in a
[2:10:53] Speaker 1: I mean media in general is in a very precarious
[2:10:56] Speaker 1: place with you know, search engine AI's replace, you know,
[2:11:00] Speaker 1: stealing content. You know, ad views are in the toilet,
[2:11:05] Speaker 1: or ad revenues in the toilet. But there are cool
[2:11:09] Speaker 1: people making cool things and finding new ways to fund
[2:11:13] Speaker 1: themselves through patrons or YouTube memberships or what have you.
[2:11:18] Speaker 1: And yeah, so I kind of just returned to a
[2:11:21] Speaker 1: place of gratitude, you know. And I feel like I
[2:11:25] Speaker 1: feel very with what you said, Joe. I feel like
[2:11:27] Speaker 1: very filled up and kind of centered. It's like, man,
[2:11:30] Speaker 1: I worked my ass off this weekend. I got no sleep,
[2:11:33] Speaker 1: but I did it with the best people.
[2:11:35] Speaker 5: Yeah, are broken, but our hearts are exactly Yeah.
[2:11:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
[2:11:40] Speaker 1: So yeah, that's kind of how I'm ending my my SGF.
[2:11:43] Speaker 1: But I do want to say if you enjoy, if
[2:11:47] Speaker 1: you well, if you it's not over yet, but if
