[0:20] Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome back to the Game Informer Show, a

[0:26] Speaker 1: Thursday for discussion about the latest gaming news, reviews, and
[0:29] Speaker 1: exclusive reveals, alongside Game and Former staff and special guests
[0:33] Speaker 1: from around the industry. I'm one of your hosts today,
[0:36] Speaker 1: joined by Marcus Stewart.
[0:39] Speaker 3: How you doing, Marcus?
[0:40] Speaker 2: Good? Feeling spooky? So I gotta talk about a scary
[0:44] Speaker 2: game today.
[0:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, you're gonna be talking about Silent Hill f Later
[0:49] Speaker 1: on in the show. You went hands on with the game,
[0:52] Speaker 1: as well as Ninja guid in Rage Bound, which we'll
[0:54] Speaker 1: get into in a bit. But before that, we have
[0:57] Speaker 1: to introduce the newest member of Game Informer, our next
[1:01] Speaker 1: full time hire.
[1:02] Speaker 3: It's Eric Van Allen. Hello. Hello, no longer a guess,
[1:06] Speaker 3: now permanently a fixture of this Unike those guys and
[1:10] Speaker 3: pirates of the Caribbean that get like barnacled to the ship. Now,
[1:13] Speaker 3: I've been here too long and.
[1:15] Speaker 2: Were punched enough holes in your membership cards and you
[1:19] Speaker 2: could turn that in for full like employment. That's how
[1:23] Speaker 2: that's a.
[1:23] Speaker 1: Great membership card, I will say, really good or full
[1:28] Speaker 1: time employment.
[1:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little bit of fact about how the
[1:30] Speaker 2: industry works. That's just how you get hired anywhere. We
[1:32] Speaker 2: all have little cards when we guessed on other people's podcasts.
[1:36] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, he finally, he finally cashed in. Well, Eric, welcome.
[1:41] Speaker 1: You are our newest video editor, our second video editor.
[1:45] Speaker 1: It's great to have some company, So welcome officially. Do
[1:49] Speaker 1: you want to kind of like, let's before we get started.
[1:51] Speaker 3: I didn't.
[1:52] Speaker 1: I didn't tell you were going to talk about this,
[1:53] Speaker 1: but I figured, you know, why not, Let's give listeners
[1:57] Speaker 1: a little more detail about you. What is it is
[2:00] Speaker 1: the work that you've done in the industry, and then
[2:01] Speaker 1: tell us some of your favorite games and what makes
[2:05] Speaker 1: Eric tick.
[2:06] Speaker 3: Oh no, I have to talk about me? Oh no, Well,
[2:10] Speaker 3: if this is therapy hour, all right, Yeah, Hi, I'm Eric.
[2:14] Speaker 3: You might know me from Destructoid, from US Gamer. If
[2:18] Speaker 3: you've been following me for a long time, you might
[2:20] Speaker 3: know me from Compete. I kind of started out in
[2:23] Speaker 3: the competitive games realm and then moved my way into
[2:26] Speaker 3: games proper. But I've always kind of been a player
[2:29] Speaker 3: of either competitive games, League of Legends, DODA to stuff
[2:33] Speaker 3: like that, or RPGs, which feels like the Polar opposite
[2:37] Speaker 3: side of the spectrum. Yeah, long time chocolate and vanilla.
[2:41] Speaker 3: Yeah they go great together, well, chocolate and peanut butter
[2:43] Speaker 3: really when you think about it, because what is doda
[2:46] Speaker 3: of not a competitive RPG when you think about it, right,
[2:49] Speaker 3: Like that's the same thing. So yeah. I also am
[2:53] Speaker 3: a co host over on Acts of the Blood God,
[2:55] Speaker 3: an independent RPG podcast with Kat Bailey and Nautia Oxford,
[2:58] Speaker 3: and I also co host norm DFM with Kennis Shepherd,
[3:00] Speaker 3: which is a game club style podcast where we play
[3:04] Speaker 3: back through old games and kind of do critical dissections
[3:08] Speaker 3: of them. We've done everything from Mass Effect, which is
[3:10] Speaker 3: where we got our namesake, up through Final Fantasy ten,
[3:13] Speaker 3: the Last of Us cyberpunk stuff like that. So yeah,
[3:17] Speaker 3: I've kind of been a lot of places. As for
[3:21] Speaker 3: my favorite games, they do kind of hue towards either RPGs.
[3:26] Speaker 3: Final Fantasy ten has always held a very special place
[3:29] Speaker 3: in my heart, Mass Effect, especially the first one, or
[3:34] Speaker 3: I don't know, some like odd ball games, I love Shimmee,
[3:37] Speaker 3: Gammy Tense, Devil Survivor, I love The World Ends with You.
[3:41] Speaker 3: I really really like tactical games of Valkyria Chronicles or
[3:46] Speaker 3: even odd indie games. Sisson Sleeper is a pretty high one,
[3:50] Speaker 3: thirteen Sentinels agis rim. Just anything that feels a little
[3:54] Speaker 3: bit off the beaten path kind of catches my eye.
[3:58] Speaker 3: So yeah, that's with me.
[4:01] Speaker 1: I feel like you are kind of filling a space
[4:03] Speaker 1: that we've had open for a little while in terms
[4:06] Speaker 1: of some of those those games. So I'm sure listeners
[4:10] Speaker 1: will be happy to have a representative of the sicko,
[4:15] Speaker 1: weirdo games.
[4:16] Speaker 3: I think it'll be great. The siccos are going to thrive. Yeah,
[4:18] Speaker 3: I mean League of Legends, that's what I do.
[4:21] Speaker 2: You have a controversial video game take that you can
[4:24] Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, let's ge people can share. Yeah, we
[4:26] Speaker 2: need people, just get on it.
[4:28] Speaker 3: I do have one. I had to rescind recently because
[4:31] Speaker 3: I grew up so obviously RPGs in my life. Final
[4:34] Speaker 3: Fantasy ten was a huge one. When I was young,
[4:36] Speaker 3: I tried playing Final Fancy nine and I did not
[4:39] Speaker 3: vibe with it whatsoever. It was totally not my thing,
[4:42] Speaker 3: and so for eons I was like, oh, Final Fancy nine.
[4:45] Speaker 3: I don't know why anybody likes that one I have.
[4:47] Speaker 3: I recently started to play through, Like I'm talking two
[4:51] Speaker 3: weeks ago, started to play through a Final Fancy nine.
[4:54] Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's like a secret actual best one
[4:58] Speaker 3: it is, but it is pretty good.
[4:59] Speaker 2: It is.
[5:00] Speaker 3: It's pretty good. I'll give you all that.
[5:01] Speaker 2: It's anniversary, I.
[5:04] Speaker 3: Know, I know. Hey, you asked me for controversy, you
[5:07] Speaker 3: asked me for for heat. It is is better than
[5:10] Speaker 3: I thought it would be. But it is also made
[5:14] Speaker 3: me go back on a previous stance that I used
[5:17] Speaker 3: to take, which was I want to see fewer remakes remasters.
[5:21] Speaker 3: I want to see more spin offs, interesting new ideas
[5:24] Speaker 3: within IP. I rescind that take for Final Fantasy nine,
[5:29] Speaker 3: which absolutely needs a remaster of some kind. I tried
[5:33] Speaker 3: playing it on my switch and it runs like it's
[5:35] Speaker 3: running on the PS one. Man. That needs an update
[5:37] Speaker 3: asapp So if we can get on that, that'd be great.
[5:41] Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, Final Fantasy nine better than I thought
[5:45] Speaker 3: it was. That's my hot take.
[5:47] Speaker 2: That used to be the subtitle before they come back?
[5:49] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah was Final Fantasy nine? The was
[5:55] Speaker 1: that our preview that got clipped out on social media
[5:58] Speaker 1: and we called VV like mark or something like yes,
[6:01] Speaker 1: two thousand.
[6:02] Speaker 2: And one, none of us here, this is none of
[6:06] Speaker 2: us here before our time this is when the game.
[6:08] Speaker 1: I don't know actually I don't actually know who who
[6:11] Speaker 1: wrote that.
[6:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was when the game. I don't think it
[6:13] Speaker 2: had come out yet. I think it was.
[6:15] Speaker 3: No, it didn't.
[6:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't know anything about the characters, and so
[6:19] Speaker 1: some wise ass was it's trying to be funny a
[6:23] Speaker 1: different again, right.
[6:28] Speaker 3: Yeah we do.
[6:29] Speaker 1: I just yeah, it was bad, but it made me laugh.
[6:34] Speaker 3: So shout out to that relic.
[6:37] Speaker 1: Well, Eric, thank you for joining us on the show today.
[6:39] Speaker 1: We're excited to have you. I think you'll be a
[6:43] Speaker 1: recurring face on the show going forward. So try to
[6:48] Speaker 1: be cool, you know, just try to be chill.
[6:51] Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I've been doing my whole life.
[6:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, we keep it chill here on the game and
[6:56] Speaker 1: for cool as ice, we say. Listeners just want to
[7:03] Speaker 1: say thank you for the love on recent episodes. Saw
[7:06] Speaker 1: last week that our Bloodlines Too podcast was doing pretty
[7:10] Speaker 1: well on YouTube, so thank you all for your interest
[7:12] Speaker 1: in that. If we have any new listeners from the
[7:15] Speaker 1: reddit or the subreddit rather or other places you might
[7:19] Speaker 1: have found us from that video, thank you and welcome.
[7:22] Speaker 1: We normally have less of a preamble before we get
[7:24] Speaker 1: into the show. Who am a kid, and that's not
[7:27] Speaker 1: true at all, but we're gonna try to get.
[7:29] Speaker 3: Into it here in a second.
[7:30] Speaker 1: Just want to say this podcast is brought to you

[9:27] Speaker 1: working a Game Informer and to be a fan. So
[9:30] Speaker 1: thank you for sitting through that spiel. I'll just say
[9:34] Speaker 1: one more time, Game Informer dot com slash subscribe, if
[9:37] Speaker 1: you're interested in getting a magazine, let's get into the
[9:42] Speaker 1: show proper, guys. Marcus, I'm gonna throw it over to you.
[9:45] Speaker 1: You've been playing Ninja Guiden rage Bound. Wesley LeBlanc was
[9:49] Speaker 1: the one who published his review for us, and it
[9:54] Speaker 1: seems like he really liked it. But Wes is over
[9:56] Speaker 1: in China right now for work and can't join us
[10:00] Speaker 1: on the podcast, but I know that he was really
[10:03] Speaker 1: really impressed with it and gave it a nine point five. Actually,
[10:08] Speaker 1: not to kind of color our conversation here like that,
[10:10] Speaker 1: but just for readers, you know, it seems like this
[10:12] Speaker 1: is a pretty good, pretty good entry in that series.
[10:16] Speaker 1: So Marcus, I'll hand it over to you. Tell us
[10:19] Speaker 1: about Ninja Giden rage Bound.
[10:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, so I haven't played nearly as much as Wesley,
[10:24] Speaker 2: so I would definitely encourage listeners to read his review
[10:27] Speaker 2: to get a more sort of like a better idea
[10:30] Speaker 2: of the full scope of what the game has to offer.
[10:33] Speaker 2: I've only started it the night before, Like, I'm currently
[10:36] Speaker 2: in the second act of the game, where I'm playing
[10:40] Speaker 2: as the second protagonist, the Black Spider Clan Woman. But
[10:46] Speaker 2: the idea of the game is that So it's a
[10:47] Speaker 2: new two D Ninja Guiden game, going back to the series.
[10:50] Speaker 2: Roots on nes as part of the Year of the Ninja,
[10:53] Speaker 2: the Year of Ninja Guiden. Really this is the second
[10:56] Speaker 2: of what will be three Ninja Guiden releases this year,
[10:58] Speaker 2: following the Ninja Ga Into Black and at the beginning
[11:02] Speaker 2: of the year and Nina.
[11:03] Speaker 3: It's kind of hard to keep up with, honestly.
[11:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like in the Ninja Game four in like October,
[11:08] Speaker 2: and then like separately of those, there's the new Shenobi
[11:11] Speaker 2: game that comes out not too long from now, uh
[11:15] Speaker 2: like pretty soon, I believe. Uh so, yeah, this is
[11:19] Speaker 2: just we just need a Schweider to come back, and
[11:21] Speaker 2: this will like complete the year of the Ninja. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
[11:29] Speaker 2: I'll take.
[11:29] Speaker 3: That to kill for a newt shoe.
[11:32] Speaker 2: I mean, Sakaro is technically a new atten shoe. It
[11:34] Speaker 2: started as a ten shu game before it became Sekaro.
[11:37] Speaker 2: So it's got it's got a little bit of tensu
[11:39] Speaker 2: left in that game.
[11:40] Speaker 3: It's got some DNA. It's definitely not a.
[11:42] Speaker 2: Ten I mean you can tell that it was at
[11:45] Speaker 2: one point.
[11:45] Speaker 1: My favorite one was in the the Headless Ape came
[11:50] Speaker 1: back to kill me.
[11:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, after after I threw him a pork bun and
[11:52] Speaker 2: then he came back. Yeah. No, yes, Ninja Guid and
[11:56] Speaker 2: rache Mouth so new two D game set in the
[11:59] Speaker 2: the Yes timeline, like I believe, and correct me if
[12:02] Speaker 2: I'm wrong. I want to say it takes place after
[12:05] Speaker 2: Ninja guid In one on ne e s I believe.
[12:09] Speaker 3: We'll look it up.
[12:10] Speaker 2: Were you Hyabusa, who you do not play ass he
[12:14] Speaker 2: has to take off to America to basically go play
[12:18] Speaker 2: the sequels adventure? Did you guys? Did you look it up?
[12:22] Speaker 3: I thought you were going to say to go play volleyball,
[12:25] Speaker 3: because I will tell you that most of my understanding
[12:28] Speaker 3: of Reu Hyabusa is through Dead or Alive, because I
[12:31] Speaker 3: believe that is the debtor alive character. Correct to me,
[12:34] Speaker 3: that is the Dead or Alive character.
[12:36] Speaker 2: Just upset so many more people.
[12:38] Speaker 3: I know. I'm sorry, I believe. No from Dead or Alive,
[12:46] Speaker 3: the series of which the Okay, I played Dead or
[12:51] Speaker 3: Alive three and Dead or Alive five quite a bit.
[12:54] Speaker 2: Yes, I mean those are the games.
[12:56] Speaker 3: I did look it up for you. It's set alongside
[12:59] Speaker 3: the event of the first one.
[13:02] Speaker 2: Okay, so Ninja Goiden one, so that story is happening
[13:05] Speaker 2: parallel to this one. So when Reno runs off to
[13:08] Speaker 2: go deal with that, you play as sort of an
[13:11] Speaker 2: apprentice of his name Kate Kinji, and you are dealing
[13:15] Speaker 2: with a separate crisis as the Hayabusa village is attacked
[13:19] Speaker 2: by invadant demons and the military gets involved, and you
[13:23] Speaker 2: don't know what is happening, but you've kind of taken
[13:25] Speaker 2: it upon yourself to be like, well, for you, you
[13:27] Speaker 2: go do your stuff, go help your father. I think
[13:29] Speaker 2: I can hold things down here. And this is also
[13:32] Speaker 2: worth noting this is made by the blasphemous developer, oh
[13:38] Speaker 2: the game Kitchen. Yeah, so you know, any blasphemist fans
[13:41] Speaker 2: out there might want to pay attention to this, because
[13:45] Speaker 2: those games are good, the good metro Venas. This is
[13:48] Speaker 2: not a Metrovnia. This is just a straight up traditional
[13:50] Speaker 2: to the action game where yeah, you are running and
[13:54] Speaker 2: slicing demons apart in a way that you would in
[13:58] Speaker 2: a traditional ninja guiding game. It feels good, I will say,
[14:01] Speaker 2: like if he action feels very fluid and fast paced.
[14:04] Speaker 2: You've got a basic sword attack, but you can do
[14:07] Speaker 2: a dodge roll, you can kind of dodge jump, and
[14:10] Speaker 2: kind of one of the central mechanics is that you
[14:13] Speaker 2: have this sort of this double jump move that you
[14:16] Speaker 2: can use, like you can bounce off of projectiles, whether
[14:19] Speaker 2: it's a projectile attack or just maybe like a stage hazard.
[14:23] Speaker 2: But the game plays without a lot where they kind
[14:25] Speaker 2: of tasky, like, hey, get past this gap by maybe
[14:28] Speaker 2: jumping on top of this sure can that this guy's
[14:30] Speaker 2: thrown at you? Maybe time it okay? Or like hey
[14:33] Speaker 2: this this pit is shooting fireballs upwards at you, so
[14:36] Speaker 2: you need to time that so you can just like
[14:38] Speaker 2: kind of like hop across. Will also simultaneously maybe cutting
[14:43] Speaker 2: down a flying threat, whether it's like weird ninjas on
[14:47] Speaker 2: like jet packs or the hawks that Ninja Guidan has
[14:51] Speaker 2: always been notorious for.
[14:54] Speaker 1: Does it kind of slow down to give you time
[14:56] Speaker 1: to reflect a little bit? Like when you reflect, are
[14:59] Speaker 1: you like you know something like orient the Blind Forest? Right,
[15:01] Speaker 1: there's similar similar projectiles in that that you can kind
[15:05] Speaker 1: of use to kind of reflect off of. Oh no,
[15:09] Speaker 1: are you using them the platform or you're purely reflecting them?
[15:12] Speaker 2: No, you're using the platform? Like okay, Yeah, so like
[15:16] Speaker 2: time isn't slow at all, Like it's all happening and
[15:18] Speaker 2: I guess real time. Like you can also hit projectiles,
[15:22] Speaker 2: like if someone throws a shriggan atch you, you can hit
[15:24] Speaker 2: it with your sword, but it doesn't send it back
[15:25] Speaker 2: at them. It just sort of knocks it away.
[15:27] Speaker 3: It just kind of dumpsucks away. Yeah.
[15:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's just like another form of defense if
[15:31] Speaker 2: you can't just dodge it out right. But that seems
[15:34] Speaker 2: to be the crutch of just like how a lot
[15:36] Speaker 2: of the level design is. It's just like having really
[15:38] Speaker 2: deviously designed stages where it's like, Okay, can I how
[15:42] Speaker 2: am I supposed to get past this? There's a lot
[15:43] Speaker 2: of stuff coming at me at the same time, and
[15:46] Speaker 2: it's almost got like in at least from what I
[15:48] Speaker 2: see in these early hours, kind of the inn order
[15:51] Speaker 2: of operations to it, because some enemies you can just
[15:54] Speaker 2: destroy immediately, but then other more powerful enemies that have
[15:57] Speaker 2: this kind of blue glow around them, they can only
[15:59] Speaker 2: be killed with this I forget the name of it,
[16:02] Speaker 2: but it's essentially like a special charge attack, and you
[16:05] Speaker 2: can either attack certain enemies that have the glow that
[16:09] Speaker 2: are smaller, and then when you kill them, you absorb
[16:13] Speaker 2: their energy and your next attack is this charge attack
[16:16] Speaker 2: that can one shot the bigger kind of blue glowy enemies.
[16:22] Speaker 2: You can kill them the old fashion way, it just
[16:24] Speaker 2: takes longer, so it's kind of encouraged. I'm like, Okay,
[16:27] Speaker 2: there's a little floating skull here. He's got a blue glow.
[16:29] Speaker 2: I'm going to kill that guy, absorb the blue glow,
[16:32] Speaker 2: and then I'm going to use that power to kill
[16:34] Speaker 2: this bigger guy that's in my way. But you have
[16:36] Speaker 2: to do it quickly because the glow power fades after
[16:40] Speaker 2: a few seconds, so you kind of just got to
[16:41] Speaker 2: like act and then because of that, there is like
[16:44] Speaker 2: an order of operations like, Okay, there's three guys here.
[16:46] Speaker 2: One of them is a big glowy guy. There's another
[16:48] Speaker 2: smaller glowy thing here. I should probably kill that small
[16:51] Speaker 2: glowy guy first, use the few seconds I have to
[16:53] Speaker 2: kill the big glowy guy immediately, and then go back
[16:56] Speaker 2: and kill the guy that's just a normal enemy that
[16:58] Speaker 2: I can just take out. There's a tutorial in the
[17:00] Speaker 2: beginning with re you that sort of kind of helps
[17:05] Speaker 2: get you in the habit of doing that. Like there's
[17:07] Speaker 2: some like very quick but kind of well done combat
[17:10] Speaker 2: trials where they do pick you against different enemy combinations
[17:13] Speaker 2: and they just like, hey, you know, figure this out.
[17:15] Speaker 2: It's like it's like half puzzle almost because it's like
[17:19] Speaker 2: a time of it too, So that's that's pretty cool.
[17:22] Speaker 2: I like that so far. It sort of encourages you.
[17:24] Speaker 2: It's sort of like within the span of like a
[17:27] Speaker 2: second just quickly analyze the battlefield as you're moving around
[17:30] Speaker 2: and just sort of picking who you're going to attack
[17:33] Speaker 2: and win and what's like the optim way to do that.
[17:35] Speaker 2: On top of all been platforming at the same time too,
[17:39] Speaker 2: so it's got that nes Ninja guid in kind of
[17:42] Speaker 2: like franticness to it. But at the same time, like
[17:45] Speaker 2: the game is challenging, but at least in this the
[17:48] Speaker 2: first couple of acts it has it become like unbearably difficult,
[17:52] Speaker 2: and just reading Wesley's of the review, it doesn't seem
[17:55] Speaker 2: like it gets to that point, Like it seems like
[17:57] Speaker 2: it's hard, but it doesn't become like any as hard. Now,
[18:00] Speaker 2: granted that's that's different for every person. You know, Wes'
[18:03] Speaker 2: is like me, like him and I are kind of
[18:05] Speaker 2: like the two Souls people and staff and that not
[18:08] Speaker 2: that this is a Soul's game, but him and I
[18:09] Speaker 2: both like difficult games basically, so like his bar for
[18:13] Speaker 2: difficulty might be, like it might not be as higher
[18:18] Speaker 2: or as low for him as it is for others
[18:21] Speaker 2: that are a little more sure, yeah, averse to that stuff.
[18:25] Speaker 1: You're given the tools and it is fairly manageable in
[18:28] Speaker 1: your experience.
[18:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, Like every time I've died, it's been like a oh,
[18:32] Speaker 2: I took that jump wrong, I time that wrong, or
[18:35] Speaker 2: you know, it's sometimes it's like your pixel off, like
[18:38] Speaker 2: well if I I should have landed a little short
[18:41] Speaker 2: because you have like pretty decent air control, because like, okay,
[18:43] Speaker 2: if I bounce off this projectile and maybe land just
[18:45] Speaker 2: short of this guy and not on top of him,
[18:48] Speaker 2: I take damage because I can't attack downwards. You can
[18:50] Speaker 2: only attack straight ahead. See, you kind of have to
[18:53] Speaker 2: account for all that. And I think the first boss
[18:56] Speaker 2: fight is kind of a good test of sort of
[19:00] Speaker 2: managing your maneuverability on top of your just how quick
[19:04] Speaker 2: you are hitting that sword, because it's like if you
[19:06] Speaker 2: the faster you tap that salt that that attack button,
[19:08] Speaker 2: the more damage you'll do.
[19:10] Speaker 1: So but it looks it looks great, Like I'm looking
[19:13] Speaker 1: at the I'm watching like a stream on on Steam
[19:19] Speaker 1: above the the product page, and it's just like seeing
[19:22] Speaker 1: some of the character designs on display, like, uh, there's
[19:25] Speaker 1: a really cool like cyborg demon that shoots a giant
[19:27] Speaker 1: eyeball out of his stomach that looks like really fun
[19:30] Speaker 1: to mess with and to.
[19:32] Speaker 3: Have to dodge.
[19:33] Speaker 1: And also just like the environments are so detailed, have
[19:37] Speaker 1: you had any like standout biomes that you've really enjoyed
[19:40] Speaker 1: being in or or have you not really had a
[19:43] Speaker 1: chance to kind of see many of them since you're
[19:45] Speaker 1: only uh one act.
[19:47] Speaker 2: Deep or so yeah, like nothing that stands out yet,
[19:50] Speaker 2: like cetimony on act too, Like like the first actor
[19:53] Speaker 2: kind of just an high aboose of village, Like there
[19:55] Speaker 2: was a prologue, but it's it's in a force that
[19:57] Speaker 2: you eventually revisit in the first act with just like, oh,
[20:00] Speaker 2: it all looks good, but I haven't seen anything that's
[20:02] Speaker 2: like blown my mind yet. The other big thing with
[20:05] Speaker 2: this game is that there's two different protagonists. So there's
[20:07] Speaker 2: Kinji and then there is a woman who is part
[20:12] Speaker 2: of the Black Spider Clan, which is sort of the
[20:15] Speaker 2: rival clan to the Hyabusa clan. So she eventually becomes
[20:20] Speaker 2: your partner. And I only know this part because I
[20:23] Speaker 2: played the next vest demo where to kind of jump
[20:25] Speaker 2: you forward in the game and you get to play
[20:27] Speaker 2: kind of like what is the real game? Yeah, because
[20:30] Speaker 2: she's she kind of just like somehow just gets inside
[20:35] Speaker 2: of Kenji, and so she's just like in you and
[20:39] Speaker 2: almost like a like like in a ghost form for
[20:44] Speaker 2: lack of a better term, where you can kind of
[20:46] Speaker 2: use her power as Kinji and occasionally play as her
[20:51] Speaker 2: during designated sections because you'll hit like an item that
[20:55] Speaker 2: sort of like draws her around and she's like, I
[20:57] Speaker 2: can handle this, you stay back. And differences between them
[21:01] Speaker 2: is that she throws kunai, so she's entirely projectile based.
[21:04] Speaker 2: She can still do the like projectile kind of bounce
[21:07] Speaker 2: thing that Kinji can do, but other than that, as
[21:10] Speaker 2: far as I can tell, like range combat is her speciality.
[21:14] Speaker 2: And she also has the thing of like, oh, if
[21:16] Speaker 2: she attacks certain colored and amazing in her case it's pink,
[21:20] Speaker 2: she'll get like a charge attack for her next attack.
[21:25] Speaker 2: But yeah, I haven't gotten I haven't totally unlocked that
[21:27] Speaker 2: system yet, so I don't know how like deep that
[21:30] Speaker 2: goes in terms of how to gain utilize that.
[21:34] Speaker 3: So is it like Curse of the Moon, like Bloodstained
[21:36] Speaker 3: Curse of the Moon where you're just kind of like
[21:37] Speaker 3: doing a little poof and then like you swap to
[21:40] Speaker 3: a different character, Like I'm still caught up on the
[21:44] Speaker 3: physical consequences of the character swapping, like is it a
[21:48] Speaker 3: marble tag in or are we like just swapping, Like
[21:52] Speaker 3: are you just kind of like changing on a dime?
[21:55] Speaker 2: Kind of Yeah, I can only go again from the
[21:58] Speaker 2: demo and it's been months or however long it's been
[22:00] Speaker 2: since I played that demo. As far as I could tell,
[22:02] Speaker 2: her reminded me of like yeah, like like Kenji is
[22:07] Speaker 2: driving the ship and she is in the passenger seat
[22:11] Speaker 2: until you reach a certain area where you hit an item,
[22:14] Speaker 2: and then she takes over, but Kenji is like still
[22:17] Speaker 2: like he's it's not like she takes over his body
[22:19] Speaker 2: or anything. She just kind of comes out and Kenji
[22:21] Speaker 2: stays behind, and she has to do a little section
[22:23] Speaker 2: that only she can do until you get back to Kenji,
[22:25] Speaker 2: like she'll basically open up a path for him.
[22:27] Speaker 3: Oh okay, So so she is still like corporeal, like
[22:30] Speaker 3: she is still a person that is like going in
[22:33] Speaker 3: and doing stuff.
[22:35] Speaker 2: I yeah, as far as I can tell, I don't
[22:37] Speaker 2: know the narrative like sort of context for it, because
[22:40] Speaker 2: at the point that I'm at in the game, an
[22:42] Speaker 2: act too. When an introducer, she is still very much
[22:44] Speaker 2: her own person, like she has not met Kenji yet,
[22:47] Speaker 2: so they're kind of setting her up as like, oh,
[22:49] Speaker 2: this is what she's doing over here, and I assume
[22:52] Speaker 2: that's going to end with and then something happened to
[22:54] Speaker 2: her to where she and Kenji or actually they have met,
[22:58] Speaker 2: but then you get like a yeah, yeah, like maybe
[23:01] Speaker 2: she dies or something and she's like, listen, I need
[23:03] Speaker 2: to I need to put my soul in you or
[23:05] Speaker 2: something like that.
[23:06] Speaker 3: It's like Piccolo and Nail in the namic saga of
[23:10] Speaker 3: Dragon Ball Z. Now I'm winning, fans back, I'm winning.
[23:14] Speaker 3: It's like Piccolo and Nail. Yeah, okay, yeah, trying to
[23:18] Speaker 3: or farm like Piccolo, Yeah, exactly, yeah.
[23:21] Speaker 2: Or I wonder if it's even more like if we're
[23:23] Speaker 2: going to keep using anime comparisons, like is it like
[23:26] Speaker 2: a yu gi oh thing of like is she the
[23:28] Speaker 2: pharaoh to Kenji's Yugi and he she takes over during
[23:32] Speaker 2: special times, but otherwise it's Kinji driving.
[23:35] Speaker 3: The ship or Ugi and Sukina from j j K
[23:39] Speaker 3: something like that. I gotta drop, I gotta drop something
[23:42] Speaker 3: to give people on my side here an yeah, like we're.
[23:46] Speaker 2: Gonna need We're gonna need anime reference from you in
[23:48] Speaker 2: a second if we want to.
[23:49] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[23:51] Speaker 1: I was just thinking, is it like in Full Metal Alchemist,
[23:56] Speaker 1: you know how Alphonse's spirit is tied to a suit
[24:01] Speaker 1: of armor, but he is physically not there.
[24:04] Speaker 3: He is inside it, he's within it, but he does
[24:08] Speaker 3: not have a physical form. Okay, you know what I'm saying.
[24:11] Speaker 3: It's not as terrible as you on the spot.
[24:14] Speaker 1: Greed Greed was right there, like Greed, and Ling was like, yeah, yeah,
[24:20] Speaker 1: it's like Greed and and the General, you know, first act,
[24:26] Speaker 1: but the General's uh, I don't spoil anything again.
[24:30] Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm still working my way to get
[24:32] Speaker 2: to the to that point in the game, because once
[24:34] Speaker 2: you get to that point where they are actively working together,
[24:36] Speaker 2: like that is the bread and butter of what Rage
[24:39] Speaker 2: Bound has to offer. So, you know, probably by the
[24:42] Speaker 2: time I finished this act too, we'll probably when the
[24:46] Speaker 2: game will properly sort of start.
[24:48] Speaker 1: But I enjoyed It's really like a Gundam, you know,
[24:51] Speaker 1: with a pilot inside.
[24:53] Speaker 3: We're really all we're all the shinji Akari of our
[24:56] Speaker 3: own a Van Gellian. Yeah, if you think about it,
[24:59] Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, we're all the heroes of our own
[25:02] Speaker 3: Gundam Wing.
[25:03] Speaker 2: She's kind of like your digimond partner and Kanji like
[25:06] Speaker 2: is the tie to her augu malon?
[25:10] Speaker 3: Oh okay, yeah, I got Where does Chikachu go when
[25:12] Speaker 3: he goes in the pokeba Well, that's the thing he
[25:15] Speaker 3: doesn't though, he doesn't he hates poke balls. Oh, you're right,
[25:19] Speaker 3: you're right.
[25:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's seeming good reason whatever's on the other side
[25:22] Speaker 2: it is probably not good. Yeah, he's like the pokeball
[25:24] Speaker 2: truth because the other Pokemon or no have no problem
[25:26] Speaker 2: with him. He's the one telling him, like, no, you
[25:28] Speaker 2: don't understand what's actually going on here, you guys, get
[25:31] Speaker 2: like the inside of poke balls is people. You need
[25:34] Speaker 2: to stay out. It's the soiling green of the Pokemon universe.
[25:37] Speaker 3: Pikachi is posting on like Pika Sky like wake up people, vocabaka.
[25:46] Speaker 2: It's the most adorable conspiracy theory you've ever heard.
[25:51] Speaker 3: But yes, it.
[25:52] Speaker 2: Gets back on track. It is fun so far. I
[25:54] Speaker 2: love to the action games. I'm a big Ninja Guidance
[25:56] Speaker 2: fan and as of now, like I it's it's clicking
[26:00] Speaker 2: the boxes for me, like it plays extremely well, which
[26:03] Speaker 2: I guess shouldn't be surprising because of the pedigree of
[26:06] Speaker 2: the game kitchen, the studio involved, but this seems like
[26:08] Speaker 2: a really fun like it just seems like a fun
[26:11] Speaker 2: sort of retro throwback for the series, because when was
[26:14] Speaker 2: the last two D Ninja guid in, Because you know,
[26:16] Speaker 2: we've been getting the three D ones that Team Ninja
[26:18] Speaker 2: has been made, but hasn't been since the nes since
[26:20] Speaker 2: like like Benja Guiden three.
[26:22] Speaker 1: Basically, surely there's probably someone game Boy or DS.
[26:26] Speaker 2: Maybe unless I'm just blanking on any but it's it's
[26:28] Speaker 2: felt refreshing to see the series go back to its roots.
[26:31] Speaker 2: Like I'm enjoying it so far. I think I think
[26:33] Speaker 2: I was like in the mood for something like this.
[26:37] Speaker 3: You know.
[26:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat, although
[26:42] Speaker 1: I think I'm more in like a Metroidvana mood maybe
[26:45] Speaker 1: than than like traditional like two D platform or kind
[26:50] Speaker 1: of stuff.
[26:50] Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm in the mood for something that's like
[26:52] Speaker 3: a little more simple.
[26:55] Speaker 2: Yeah see, I think I'm kind of like that tours,
[26:57] Speaker 2: Like I love metro Venas, but like every two D
[26:59] Speaker 2: actually game tends to be a Metroidvania now, Like I
[27:01] Speaker 2: feel like we don't get that off of just like
[27:04] Speaker 2: side scroller, Like you're allowed to just do a side
[27:07] Speaker 2: scroller and doesn't have to be amaze.
[27:09] Speaker 3: That it's totally fair. I feel like there's been a
[27:11] Speaker 3: hunger for it since The Messenger. I feel like The
[27:14] Speaker 3: Messenger came out and people were like, oh right, this
[27:17] Speaker 3: was a style of action game that used to exist.
[27:20] Speaker 3: We used to have a lot of them, and we
[27:21] Speaker 3: don't see a lot of them anymore, or they tend
[27:23] Speaker 3: to just be in the Metroidvania bucket because that's a
[27:28] Speaker 3: way of doing that style of game that people are
[27:30] Speaker 3: very accustomed to. But with the rise of things like
[27:33] Speaker 3: Beat them Ups and other older genres kind of getting
[27:36] Speaker 3: new refreshes nowadays, it's been cool to see like this
[27:40] Speaker 3: style of two D action game, specifically Get in Upgrade,
[27:44] Speaker 3: get brought into a new light to new audiences who
[27:47] Speaker 3: maybe didn't grow up with that stuff, who only know
[27:49] Speaker 3: of Reu Hayabusa because of fighting games in a volleyball game.
[27:53] Speaker 2: So yeah, it's kind of like how I feel. I
[27:55] Speaker 2: have similar feelings about the action genre, or it feels
[27:57] Speaker 2: like every action game has to be a Soul's like
[27:59] Speaker 2: and can't be and action games like you guys, we
[28:02] Speaker 2: can just do Devil May Cry or something. You know,
[28:05] Speaker 2: it doesn't always have to be it doesn't not everything
[28:07] Speaker 2: has to have soul like souls like mechanics. Like, just
[28:10] Speaker 2: make an action game. It's it's cool, I'll play it probably. Yeah,
[28:14] Speaker 2: metro Venous. Metro Venus and souls like have been so
[28:16] Speaker 2: in vogue that they tend to They're both very oversaturated
[28:21] Speaker 2: subgenres at this point, so I like going back to
[28:24] Speaker 2: the to the old days, you know, just keeping it simple.
[28:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I was.
[28:29] Speaker 1: I was looking up Marcus just to see if there
[28:32] Speaker 1: were other two D releases. There wasn't a Nintendo DS game,
[28:37] Speaker 1: but it was. It was kind of like a three
[28:39] Speaker 1: D three D graphics Dragon Sword. What was it called again,
[28:42] Speaker 1: Dragon Dragon Sword?
[28:44] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, that's right. And it kind of had like
[28:46] Speaker 3: on the left.
[28:47] Speaker 1: Side of the screen was like a top down map
[28:49] Speaker 1: and on the right side is the kind of put
[28:52] Speaker 1: the screen in a funny way.
[28:53] Speaker 3: Oh did they do the you have to hold it
[28:55] Speaker 3: on it's like vertical or like like up and down,
[28:59] Speaker 3: like like hotel style. It looked I'll have to.
[29:02] Speaker 1: Look deeper into it, but I was just kind of
[29:04] Speaker 1: like doing a cursory glance.
[29:06] Speaker 2: Do you want to guess that before you get the
[29:09] Speaker 2: Dragon Sword? Do you want to get or lean dragon Sword?
[29:11] Speaker 2: Do you want to guess the game and former review
[29:13] Speaker 2: score for it?
[29:14] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, let me let me just like take
[29:16] Speaker 1: a look at like some screenshots real quick.
[29:18] Speaker 3: It was you have to hold it like a book.
[29:20] Speaker 3: I love those DS games. It makes no sense, no
[29:24] Speaker 3: sense for a ninja guy, and they should it this way.
[29:26] Speaker 2: But they should have poured it in mobile because now
[29:28] Speaker 2: we have those phones that fold out like books, so
[29:30] Speaker 2: you can make it happy.
[29:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so they did do the book fold How
[29:34] Speaker 1: would you play that?
[29:35] Speaker 3: Because then, like the control stick is down here and
[29:39] Speaker 3: the buttons are up here. So are you doing this?
[29:42] Speaker 3: If it just stylist?
[29:45] Speaker 2: You have to play like a ninja, Eric, that's how
[29:47] Speaker 2: ninja's play games.
[29:48] Speaker 3: You're right, yeah, like books like that works really well
[29:52] Speaker 3: for a Hotel Dusk specifically, but I don't know that
[29:55] Speaker 3: it works for ninja guy.
[29:57] Speaker 1: All right, I'm going to look up a quick gameplay.
[30:02] Speaker 2: This wass to be like an all in the spot
[30:04] Speaker 2: like you have to get you're doing research.
[30:06] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I'm watching some gameplay.
[30:09] Speaker 3: I'll put a number in without looking at anything but
[30:11] Speaker 3: two screenshots. I'm going six point twenty five. Okay, I'm
[30:19] Speaker 3: going I'm going to five out of ten.
[30:23] Speaker 2: Okay, Eric's closer. It was actually a seven point seventy five.
[30:27] Speaker 2: That's not a bad score, you know, like just shy
[30:30] Speaker 2: hi an eight. So it turns out who wrote that review,
[30:34] Speaker 2: so we can chame them. I'm looking at the Wikipedia page.
[30:37] Speaker 2: I don't think they quoted us. I'm looking at the
[30:40] Speaker 2: quotes from other outlets. You probably the search on the website.
[30:44] Speaker 1: I'll go go through the magazine archive to find it.
[30:46] Speaker 2: Yeah. That's a good that's a good, uh, you know,
[30:49] Speaker 2: way to to promote the fact that you can read
[30:51] Speaker 2: every issue of Game and Former magazine if you become
[30:53] Speaker 2: a free member on the site.
[30:55] Speaker 1: Just saying, you know, yep, every issue from nineteen ninety
[30:58] Speaker 1: one to twenty twenty four. Dole for free Game Informer
[31:01] Speaker 1: dot com.
[31:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, well cool. Yeah, there was a game Boy game,
[31:05] Speaker 3: but it was it was Ninja Got in Shadow.
[31:09] Speaker 2: Don't know that.
[31:11] Speaker 1: Yeah that was art looks it looks cool? Is in
[31:16] Speaker 1: we did to release nineteen eighty five. He was a
[31:18] Speaker 1: licensed edit of a proposed Ninja guid in game Boy
[31:22] Speaker 1: port and serves as a pretty cool to the original game,
[31:24] Speaker 1: set in a retro futuristic version of nineteen eighty five.
[31:27] Speaker 3: Oh sorry, it wasn't released. It was.
[31:30] Speaker 1: One I saw nineteen eighty five, but that was part
[31:34] Speaker 1: of the story.
[31:35] Speaker 2: The game is set in nineteen eighty five.
[31:37] Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, but uh, thanks Wikipedia, I appreciate you,
[31:42] Speaker 1: and I'm playing Wikipedia. Hey, I donate to Wikipedia. We
[31:46] Speaker 1: need we need Wikipedia as a resource. Uh and in
[31:49] Speaker 1: the age that we are entering. But well, cool, that
[31:53] Speaker 1: was a Ninja Guiden rage bound.
[31:56] Speaker 3: I think we're walking through that or not today.
[32:00] Speaker 2: It's out like this week as of we're recording.
[32:03] Speaker 3: It.
[32:03] Speaker 2: Might be it's probably already out by the time we're
[32:04] Speaker 2: listening to it, honestly, or listening to us. But yeah,
[32:08] Speaker 2: it's on everything pretty much switch to well I don't think,
[32:13] Speaker 2: I don't say that switched too, but switch. Yeah. It's
[32:16] Speaker 2: out tomorrow, July thirty. First, at the time that we're recording.
[32:20] Speaker 3: Oh wait, I guess I got to get used to
[32:23] Speaker 3: between the two. It is. It is Joe Joe Juba.
[32:30] Speaker 3: I believe that is a Joe jubiter because he was
[32:33] Speaker 3: the he was the action like stylish action guy. We
[32:37] Speaker 3: were only doing first name bylines on this one, so
[32:39] Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to go all the way back to
[32:41] Speaker 3: the mask to verify there wasn't another Joe. Okay, if
[32:45] Speaker 3: it's your jew, I trust you, Joe.
[32:48] Speaker 2: In twenty ten, it would have to be Jubo.
[32:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is Joe Juba.
[32:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, I trust Joe Juba. All right, yeah, all right,
[32:56] Speaker 1: I guess we're I guess we won't roast him.
[32:59] Speaker 2: Somebody else, so my old boss Joju. But we can't
[33:02] Speaker 2: roast them.
[33:03] Speaker 3: No.
[33:05] Speaker 1: Well cool, let's get into Wildgate, which Eric and I
[33:09] Speaker 1: have been playing. It's a I talked about it a
[33:12] Speaker 1: few months ago on the podcast. I think actually Eric
[33:15] Speaker 1: might have guessed on that episode of the show, but
[33:18] Speaker 1: it is I think, like you know, the Quick, kind
[33:21] Speaker 1: of Quick and Dirty comparison is Sea of Thieves in space.
[33:25] Speaker 1: You are piloting a variety of different ships, so you
[33:31] Speaker 1: can kind of unlock a few of them and kind
[33:34] Speaker 1: of pick before you go into the match. Each of
[33:36] Speaker 1: them have their own kind of quirks and benefits to them,
[33:39] Speaker 1: and they're all a little structurally different, so you kind
[33:43] Speaker 1: of have to get used to where things are placed
[33:45] Speaker 1: in the ships but zooming out.
[33:47] Speaker 3: It is a PvP V style game where you are.
[33:55] Speaker 1: Loading into the nebula the the I think they call it.
[33:59] Speaker 3: There's an actual proper noun for it.
[34:01] Speaker 1: But you're loaded into like the space along with four
[34:04] Speaker 1: or five other ships, all with like full human teams,
[34:10] Speaker 1: so you are working together with up to three other people,
[34:16] Speaker 1: so four people team, four person teams, and you're all
[34:22] Speaker 1: trying to find something called the Artifact, which is this
[34:25] Speaker 1: cool glowy.
[34:28] Speaker 3: It looks like the precursor orbs from Jack and Daxter. Oh,
[34:32] Speaker 3: you're right, it looks just like them. I think about
[34:34] Speaker 3: it every time. Yeah, wow, that's a good call.
[34:38] Speaker 1: Yeah. And you are trying to identify where this artifact
[34:43] Speaker 1: is within the map while all the other ships and
[34:46] Speaker 1: teams are doing the same thing. Identifying it. You have
[34:48] Speaker 1: to sort of get through a go through a gauntlet
[34:51] Speaker 1: that's somewhat challenging and long, and once the artifact has
[34:56] Speaker 1: been found and taken by you, everyone else is alerted
[35:00] Speaker 1: of its whereabouts and so you then have to wait
[35:05] Speaker 1: enough time for the wild gate, which is you.
[35:08] Speaker 3: Know the namesake. Yeah, in the game.
[35:12] Speaker 2: Is it weird that every time you say the name
[35:14] Speaker 2: it makes me want I want to hear you say
[35:16] Speaker 2: it in the wild Thing like melody, like wow, Like
[35:23] Speaker 2: I just my brain wants you to say it like that.
[35:27] Speaker 1: I was thinking where the wild Things are and I
[35:29] Speaker 1: was like, what, there's a is there a quote from
[35:31] Speaker 1: the movie that you really like?
[35:36] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[35:36] Speaker 1: So the Wildgate is on a timer and sometimes you
[35:39] Speaker 1: can find the artifact and you have to wait a
[35:41] Speaker 1: while for the wildgate to open, and everyone on the
[35:44] Speaker 1: map can. Once you've found the Wildgate, you can kind
[35:46] Speaker 1: of see what the percentage is at before it opens,
[35:49] Speaker 1: and then once the Wildgate is open, it is a
[35:53] Speaker 1: sort of free for all to see who can get
[35:55] Speaker 1: the artifact on their ship and escape to the wild
[35:58] Speaker 1: Gate before they are destroyed. It's an extraction game basically,
[36:03] Speaker 1: behind kind of kind of I don't want that to
[36:07] Speaker 1: scare people off.
[36:08] Speaker 3: It is, yeah, you can take it away. The thing
[36:11] Speaker 3: that I think while Gay does that's really really smart
[36:15] Speaker 3: is it eschees a lot of the things that other
[36:18] Speaker 3: extraction shooters try to do. One of them is kind
[36:21] Speaker 3: of the in game progression, out of game progression. So
[36:25] Speaker 3: in a game like Tarkov where you get cool stuff
[36:28] Speaker 3: and you extract it and then you can bring it
[36:29] Speaker 3: back into another whatever. The opposite of an extraction is
[36:34] Speaker 3: like an interaction in an incursion, and that's a good word.
[36:40] Speaker 3: That's that's a ten dollars word right there. That's you're
[36:44] Speaker 3: not really doing that. It has more of the cadence
[36:47] Speaker 3: of just kind of a traditional shooter game where you're
[36:52] Speaker 3: picking a character, you're loading in. You have different ships
[36:55] Speaker 3: that you can unlock by choosing your battle you set
[36:58] Speaker 3: like kind of a battle pass progress type thing. I
[37:01] Speaker 3: don't think there is actually a battle pass in this.
[37:06] Speaker 3: Their progression tracks that you earn XP on and get
[37:11] Speaker 3: more skins, more self Valeriant works. Actually, people played Valorous, select.
[37:15] Speaker 1: A hero and as you prioritize, no matter who you're playing,
[37:19] Speaker 1: you're kind of investing in their progression system, and then
[37:23] Speaker 1: as you go you will unlock items and cosmetics as
[37:27] Speaker 1: you go.
[37:28] Speaker 3: And that's kind of similar to how Wildgate work, right,
[37:30] Speaker 3: So I stress all that because you're not trying to
[37:33] Speaker 3: get something and get out necessarily, you're trying to either
[37:37] Speaker 3: be the last crew standing or get the artifact and
[37:40] Speaker 3: extract with it. And instead of having it be like, oh,
[37:44] Speaker 3: I'm trying to get my stuff and get out and
[37:45] Speaker 3: deal with players and kind of do that sort of
[37:48] Speaker 3: social side of things in that respect, which can be
[37:51] Speaker 3: cool in its own way, but can also lead to
[37:53] Speaker 3: a lot of griefing, a lot of just trying to
[37:57] Speaker 3: scrounge what you can and get out really fast type
[37:59] Speaker 3: game play. Instead, you are really focused on the action,
[38:04] Speaker 3: and specifically the action that your team is capable of doing,
[38:07] Speaker 3: because they have tried. The team has tried to put
[38:11] Speaker 3: together this set of different skills and abilities and ship
[38:15] Speaker 3: types and weapons that might, you know, incentivize you to
[38:19] Speaker 3: want to play certain ways. Maybe you're running a faster ship,
[38:22] Speaker 3: it's a little bit sneakier, can move a little bit,
[38:25] Speaker 3: has better maneuverability, and so maybe you don't want to
[38:27] Speaker 3: try and be the last crew standing. Maybe you want
[38:31] Speaker 3: to get the artifact and get out before some of
[38:34] Speaker 3: the larger warships can beat you in a straight on fight.
[38:38] Speaker 3: But I think the other cool thing is that while
[38:40] Speaker 3: there is shooting, and the shooting is really fun because
[38:43] Speaker 3: there's a lot of zero g in this game and
[38:46] Speaker 3: a lot of really cool space physics. If you've played
[38:49] Speaker 3: say Outer Wilds, you might get really into the idea
[38:52] Speaker 3: of moving bodies within a zero G environment and the
[38:55] Speaker 3: sort of trajectories and thought process and planning you have
[38:58] Speaker 3: to do in that environment. But also you have these cannons,
[39:02] Speaker 3: and you have piloting the ship, and you have different
[39:04] Speaker 3: systems that you can loot. So when you go into
[39:07] Speaker 3: a POI a point of interest and you clear it,
[39:10] Speaker 3: you do kind of the sub objective in there. Maybe
[39:12] Speaker 3: kill some creeps, take out some eggs, fix some engines,
[39:16] Speaker 3: or repair some things, loop pops out, and you can
[39:19] Speaker 3: get cannons, which are great. They make your ship stronger.
[39:22] Speaker 3: You have better weapons. You can actually get special weapons
[39:25] Speaker 3: that are limited ammos, so maybe like a super powerful
[39:27] Speaker 3: sniper rifle or something like that. But then you also
[39:30] Speaker 3: get little gadgets like a clampjet, which is one of
[39:34] Speaker 3: my favorites, that you can stick on somebody's ship or
[39:36] Speaker 3: on your own ship, and then you shoot it and
[39:38] Speaker 3: it basically fires, and it's like hitting a fire extinguisher
[39:41] Speaker 3: with a handgun, where it just takes off really fast.
[39:45] Speaker 3: And so we were in a fight with a ship
[39:47] Speaker 3: and I was like, hold on, and I grabbed a
[39:49] Speaker 3: clamp jet and I jumped out the air lock, scooted
[39:53] Speaker 3: my way down to the enemy ship, stuck a clamp
[39:55] Speaker 3: jet on the top of it and then shot it,
[39:57] Speaker 3: and it just rocketed them down into an asteroid field,
[40:01] Speaker 3: like out of control, and the whole time they're like,
[40:04] Speaker 3: oh my god, what's happening, what's happening. It's like cool
[40:07] Speaker 3: moments like that that feel very interactive and very different
[40:10] Speaker 3: from what you would expect from a traditional first person
[40:14] Speaker 3: extraction shooter type game. And I think those interactions are
[40:18] Speaker 3: what make this game so interesting is that you're not
[40:21] Speaker 3: just kind of playing a traditional shooter. You have lots
[40:23] Speaker 3: of moments where you're honestly panicking, You're freaking out. There's
[40:28] Speaker 3: two ships coming at you from different directions. The artifacts
[40:32] Speaker 3: been found. You're trying to figure out how you maneuver
[40:34] Speaker 3: through an asteroid field and block cover or get into
[40:37] Speaker 3: a nebula cloud and hide and lay low or repair things.
[40:41] Speaker 3: And it's just constant action. But there's a great rise
[40:45] Speaker 3: and fall to it too, where you have those moments
[40:48] Speaker 3: of looting those areas and bringing stuff back and being like, Okay,
[40:51] Speaker 3: do we feel ready to fight? Do we feel ready
[40:53] Speaker 3: to do stuff? Get on the probes, use these probes
[40:55] Speaker 3: to fly around and scan things and scout people out oh,
[40:58] Speaker 3: I see somebody probing us. They came from that direction.
[41:00] Speaker 3: We need to look out for that, and just so
[41:03] Speaker 3: many cool little things. There was a game I played
[41:07] Speaker 3: a long time ago on Unreal Tournament two thousand and
[41:10] Speaker 3: four that was a modrout two thousand and four where
[41:14] Speaker 3: you were on these hot air balloon zeppelins and they
[41:18] Speaker 3: all had cannons on them, and you had to manually
[41:20] Speaker 3: load the cannons with different AMMO types and then light
[41:24] Speaker 3: the fuse and then aim the cannon and fire it.
[41:27] Speaker 3: And so if you matched up with a good crew
[41:29] Speaker 3: of people, we'd be on voicecomms and like I'd be
[41:33] Speaker 3: manning the cannon and aiming it, and somebody else would
[41:35] Speaker 3: be loading it and lighting the fuse, and I'd be
[41:37] Speaker 3: trying to track it. I'd be like, all right, ready, fire, firefire, Okay,
[41:41] Speaker 3: give me give me the missile round. Stop putting cannonball
[41:43] Speaker 3: in there. Let's do a different round that'll work better
[41:45] Speaker 3: at this distance. And stuff like that. You have to
[41:48] Speaker 3: lead shots because they're moving targets within that space, and
[41:52] Speaker 3: it's it's so interesting because of that. It's so fascinating
[41:55] Speaker 3: because of that, And so I think CEA thieves becomes
[41:58] Speaker 3: the comparison, not just because cause you're in this sort
[42:01] Speaker 3: of survival environment with a crew of people on a ship,
[42:05] Speaker 3: but because it has that feeling of big maneuvering almost
[42:08] Speaker 3: lumbering bodies in a space and that works so well.
[42:14] Speaker 2: Is this is it? Is it viable or even possible
[42:17] Speaker 2: to play this by yourself like that?
[42:19] Speaker 3: You can solo cue, But I don't think you can
[42:22] Speaker 3: hop in with a ship just by yourself. Yeah you can,
[42:27] Speaker 3: you can do no phil.
[42:28] Speaker 1: So I have played with three people actually, as playing
[42:31] Speaker 1: with Leovader and one of our friends, Samir, and we
[42:37] Speaker 1: got a team bonus for only having three people on
[42:40] Speaker 1: our team, and so the game introduced a few So
[42:43] Speaker 1: one of the mechanics in the game, or one of
[42:45] Speaker 1: the systems rather is your ship has a frost. It's
[42:50] Speaker 1: you use you got and collect samples of like these
[42:53] Speaker 1: ice trunks from space and bring them back and deposit
[42:56] Speaker 1: them in your ship's repository, and then you can Every
[43:02] Speaker 1: ship is powered by a reactor, and so the reactor
[43:05] Speaker 1: has two functions. Number one, the enemy team can come
[43:08] Speaker 1: onto your ship or you can go on theirs. And
[43:12] Speaker 1: if you hold down the interact button, you can set
[43:15] Speaker 1: off the enemy team's reactor and it starts a countdown
[43:19] Speaker 1: and the ship will self destruct after I think it's
[43:21] Speaker 1: something like twenty or thirty seconds. And then the other
[43:24] Speaker 1: function that it serves is that when you're losing health
[43:28] Speaker 1: when your ship is being shot, and once they have
[43:30] Speaker 1: penetrated your shields, which recharge over time, they can then
[43:34] Speaker 1: hit your actual hole and if your haul is hit,
[43:38] Speaker 1: you take direct damage. And like every ship has a
[43:40] Speaker 1: health bar, and every I want to say like ten
[43:43] Speaker 1: to fifteen seconds, there's a button on your reactor you
[43:46] Speaker 1: hit and if you have ice in your repository then
[43:50] Speaker 1: it will heal the ship.
[43:51] Speaker 3: I think like ten points.
[43:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, And there are some modifiers you can get in
[43:56] Speaker 1: terms of like how much health your ship has. If
[43:58] Speaker 1: you blow up another ship and you go to their
[44:02] Speaker 1: kind of the graveyard of the ship, you can extract
[44:05] Speaker 1: their ship corp and install it in yours for extra health.
[44:09] Speaker 1: I think it's like ten percent more health on your ship.
[44:12] Speaker 3: And a lot of those, like.
[44:14] Speaker 1: Dynamics can also be at play mid fight, so you know,
[44:19] Speaker 1: having people board your ship or sending Eric go and
[44:22] Speaker 1: try to steal one of their guns out of their ship.
[44:24] Speaker 3: I boarded a ship at one point took out the
[44:27] Speaker 3: pilot and two of the gunners and then tore a
[44:31] Speaker 3: cannon off of one of their cannon inmplacements, and you
[44:34] Speaker 3: can use a button to teleport back to your ship
[44:36] Speaker 3: after a short cool down. So I took the canon,
[44:39] Speaker 3: teleport it back, installed it on our gun like arsenal,
[44:44] Speaker 3: and then just started firing on them with their own cannon,
[44:48] Speaker 3: which was so cool and feels like you're kind of
[44:52] Speaker 3: playing this again pirates outlaws. This this sort of no
[44:58] Speaker 3: laws out here. There's no chivalr code that we have
[45:00] Speaker 3: to abide by in the way that we're fighting with
[45:02] Speaker 3: each other while just trying to get the artifact and
[45:05] Speaker 3: get out or be the last crew around. And you
[45:08] Speaker 3: can do so much cool stuff with that, and there's
[45:11] Speaker 3: a lot of roles to fill on the ship.
[45:13] Speaker 1: There's six or seven different characters that you can you
[45:18] Speaker 1: can play with, and they each have they kind of fulfill.
[45:22] Speaker 1: One of them is more of like a I think
[45:25] Speaker 1: his name is Adrian. He has a jet pack that's
[45:28] Speaker 1: his like core ability that lets him get places like
[45:32] Speaker 1: really quickly, and he can kind of he's like your
[45:35] Speaker 1: explorer guy, like if you need to get if you
[45:37] Speaker 1: want to attack another ship and board them, he can
[45:39] Speaker 1: get there really quickly. There's another character she can do
[45:44] Speaker 1: like a long range teleport.
[45:47] Speaker 3: There's a go this like.
[45:48] Speaker 1: Badass looking goat guy, and he's like a ship defender
[45:52] Speaker 1: and he has a lot of perks, so like when
[45:53] Speaker 1: people board your ship, he can see their outline through
[45:57] Speaker 1: the walls. And he also has a couple other when
[46:00] Speaker 1: he's on the ship. So I think if somebody comes
[46:03] Speaker 1: on the ship and the goat guy kills them, he
[46:06] Speaker 1: gets like regenerative health. And there's a lot of different characters.
[46:10] Speaker 1: There's several different characters. One is a robot who doesn't
[46:13] Speaker 1: have to worry about managing oxygen, whereas the other characters there,
[46:18] Speaker 1: you have an oxygen meter you have to worry about.
[46:20] Speaker 1: And so if your ship gets blown up in certain
[46:23] Speaker 1: places and the vacu the seal is broken, you will
[46:27] Speaker 1: no longer have oxygen in your ship until you repair
[46:31] Speaker 1: that part of your ship.
[46:32] Speaker 3: And so there's a lot of that kind of at play.
[46:35] Speaker 1: While you'll explore certain pois and there'll be certain challenges that, oh,
[46:40] Speaker 1: this area in the map, you it especially drains your
[46:44] Speaker 1: your oxygen consumption, and so you have to kind of
[46:47] Speaker 1: manage going and completing these objectives while also like, oh,
[46:52] Speaker 1: I need to get to this oxygen event to make
[46:54] Speaker 1: sure that I don't die on this little excursion. And
[46:58] Speaker 1: Eric kind of talked about it. There's a lot of
[47:00] Speaker 1: different there's a lot of variety in the cannons that
[47:03] Speaker 1: you can equip to your ship. Yeah, one of them,
[47:05] Speaker 1: I love the sniper one. It's like super long range.
[47:08] Speaker 1: There's another one that is sort of like a big
[47:11] Speaker 1: charge shot and the further the further you are away
[47:15] Speaker 1: from them, the more damage it does. And so you're
[47:19] Speaker 1: kind of like incentivized to kind of keep distance and
[47:22] Speaker 1: hit these big shots. There's the quad cannon, which is
[47:26] Speaker 1: just kind of like you're kind of almost like a shotgun,
[47:29] Speaker 1: kind of like just like your kind of.
[47:31] Speaker 3: Mid range short to mid range. It's it's begun too,
[47:35] Speaker 3: you know. If you start with gun one, it's gun too,
[47:38] Speaker 3: and then yeah, it becomes just like a better improvement.
[47:41] Speaker 3: I think my favorite one that I've had so far,
[47:43] Speaker 3: I haven't found it in the release yet, but when
[47:45] Speaker 3: we were playing the beta while back, I had found
[47:48] Speaker 3: one that was you could basically you'd shoot and then
[47:52] Speaker 3: the projectiles you shot would follow your crosshair as you
[47:55] Speaker 3: dragged it on the screen, and so you could kind
[47:58] Speaker 3: of curve shots. So if there was an enemy trying
[48:01] Speaker 3: to like hide behind asteroids or something, you could kind
[48:03] Speaker 3: of curve your shots around there. That's cool.
[48:05] Speaker 1: It was.
[48:05] Speaker 3: It was really neat.
[48:07] Speaker 1: I think my favorite one is the bomb one where
[48:10] Speaker 1: it takes two people. So you should have this big
[48:13] Speaker 1: bomb and it sticks to the ship, and then your
[48:15] Speaker 1: other teammate can be on a different cannon and detonate
[48:21] Speaker 1: the bomb that you hit. And you can kind of
[48:22] Speaker 1: target different systems, so you can target You can shoot
[48:26] Speaker 1: at their turrets to like knock out their turrets. You
[48:29] Speaker 1: can shoot at their engines if you're behind them, and
[48:32] Speaker 1: so they won't be able to accelerate as fast. There's
[48:35] Speaker 1: a lot of different yeah, a lot of different interactions
[48:39] Speaker 1: within and on the exterior of the ships. And all
[48:42] Speaker 1: of the ships have these things called hard points, and
[48:45] Speaker 1: that's where you like kind of lock in your equipment.
[48:47] Speaker 1: So you could get, oh, we have a storm barrier,
[48:49] Speaker 1: so now we can go into the cosmic storm and
[48:53] Speaker 1: we can fight people or hide in there and our
[48:55] Speaker 1: ship won't take damage, whereas without that attachment, you can't
[48:58] Speaker 1: do that. There's another one that like a fire shield,
[49:00] Speaker 1: so we can kind of get close to certain asteroid
[49:03] Speaker 1: clusters that will normally like set fire to your ship.
[49:07] Speaker 1: And there's a lot of like different perks and abilities
[49:09] Speaker 1: that you're kind of equipping and to your ship and
[49:13] Speaker 1: kind of like trading off to I want. This is
[49:16] Speaker 1: what's kind of our strategy this game. What ship do
[49:19] Speaker 1: we spawn in with? What are our pois? Are we
[49:22] Speaker 1: more gadget heavy right now?
[49:23] Speaker 2: Are we?
[49:24] Speaker 1: And all these things kind of inform your decision making
[49:27] Speaker 1: to where you're going to go next and whether or
[49:30] Speaker 1: not you want to fight. Do you want to kind
[49:32] Speaker 1: of try to catch somebody by surprise, Do you want
[49:34] Speaker 1: to third or fourth party a big dog fight that's happening.
[49:38] Speaker 3: Do you want to play more passive?
[49:39] Speaker 1: It's it's got that like really that back and forth
[49:43] Speaker 1: that you find in a lot of really great competitive games.
[49:46] Speaker 3: And despite it kind of being this kind of extraction.
[49:52] Speaker 1: Shooter in in kind of like the multiplayer format, you
[49:55] Speaker 1: don't really have to worry about that stuff. Like Eric said,
[49:58] Speaker 1: like there's no like meta game that you're worrying about.
[50:00] Speaker 1: The meta game is just level after characters and unlocking
[50:05] Speaker 1: new there is a meta and it is laser ra discussion.
[50:12] Speaker 1: Sorry yeah, sorry, I should meta metagame metagame progressions.
[50:18] Speaker 3: There's a meta and it's called the andaser Look look,
[50:23] Speaker 3: wild Gate Depths. If you're listening. Uh, first of all,
[50:27] Speaker 3: thank you for tuning in. Uh we we we like
[50:30] Speaker 3: your game. But but laser ram is crazy. That thing
[50:34] Speaker 3: goes absolutely bonkers every time I see it.
[50:38] Speaker 2: Uh.
[50:39] Speaker 3: That that's the one thing that I'm like, there's something
[50:42] Speaker 3: about that specific weapon, or it's not even a weapon.
[50:45] Speaker 3: I think that's maybe part of it is that it's
[50:47] Speaker 3: a hard point thing and it ends up being this
[50:50] Speaker 3: real game changing attachment. It's a giant laser sword that
[50:54] Speaker 3: just juts out of your ship that you can ram
[50:56] Speaker 3: into people and it does disgusting amounts of damage. It
[51:00] Speaker 3: also makes it really hard to kind of get unstuck
[51:04] Speaker 3: from an opponent because usually kind of the push and
[51:06] Speaker 3: pull that you have is you move slower if your
[51:09] Speaker 3: shields are up, and so dropping your shields is a
[51:12] Speaker 3: potential way to risk taking damage to create more distance. Well,
[51:17] Speaker 3: if you drop your shields when there's a laser ram
[51:20] Speaker 3: inside of your ship killing everyone, it's a bad time.
[51:24] Speaker 3: And if you don't then you're just kind of going
[51:27] Speaker 3: slowly and you might not be able to get away
[51:29] Speaker 3: from something. So that's like the one tiny thing that
[51:33] Speaker 3: I kind of wish. I hope it a future balance
[51:35] Speaker 3: update addresses. But that being said, I think the highest
[51:39] Speaker 3: praise I can give this game, it's a really high
[51:42] Speaker 3: bit of praise, is that the foundation here is just perfect.
[51:46] Speaker 3: It is. It makes so much sense for what any
[51:51] Speaker 3: anywhere the team could want to take wild Game from here.
[51:54] Speaker 3: I think it would work because you have such a good,
[51:56] Speaker 3: solid core idea of ship's crew whose guns I take out,
[52:02] Speaker 3: the artifact and the Wildgate. You could do a deathmatch mode,
[52:06] Speaker 3: you could do sort of a respawning, domination mode, King
[52:10] Speaker 3: of the Hill mode, stuff like that. It would all
[52:12] Speaker 3: work because the core function of these crews and the
[52:16] Speaker 3: ships and the way that they interact with each other
[52:18] Speaker 3: works so well that I could imagine tons of different
[52:22] Speaker 3: things working in this space. And I think that is
[52:26] Speaker 3: the best sign that this has some life in it.
[52:29] Speaker 3: And you know, in an era where live service games
[52:33] Speaker 3: they come and go pretty fast, I would like to
[52:36] Speaker 3: see Wildgate live for a while because I think it's
[52:38] Speaker 3: got a really really strong concept it's putting forward one
[52:42] Speaker 3: that feels different from everything else that's out there right now.
[52:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, and you say live service game, but it is
[52:47] Speaker 2: like it is a premium problem, Like you pay. It's
[52:50] Speaker 2: like thirty bucks. Like it's not like a free to
[52:52] Speaker 2: play game or anything.
[52:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's like a store and that sort of thing.
[52:57] Speaker 1: Like I think they eventually will I don't know who's
[53:00] Speaker 1: to say where they take it, but it does have
[53:02] Speaker 1: that kind of there is a live service feel in
[53:06] Speaker 1: some ways, like and I think just in general, multiplayer
[53:09] Speaker 1: developers are trying to get that lightning in a bottle
[53:14] Speaker 1: regardless of like the monetization method. But yeah, like you said, Marcus,
[53:19] Speaker 1: it is a premium game, like you're paying money for it.
[53:23] Speaker 1: And the cosmetics are like I will say, like I
[53:27] Speaker 1: wish like some of the baked in cosmetics that you
[53:29] Speaker 1: can unlock in the character tracks, I wish they are
[53:32] Speaker 1: a bit more had some more flair to them. And
[53:36] Speaker 1: so there they have like a store that is like
[53:38] Speaker 1: honestly pretty reasonably priced if you want. I know, like
[53:41] Speaker 1: one character skin was like five bucks. There was a
[53:45] Speaker 1: ship skin that you could get that's ten bucks. And
[53:48] Speaker 1: we'll see how that kind of shakes out. But all
[53:51] Speaker 1: in all like what you're getting for that that full
[53:55] Speaker 1: price is feels really worthwhile.
[53:59] Speaker 3: I think meaningful and easy comparison point is hell Divers too,
[54:03] Speaker 3: a game that is also you buy into it, but
[54:06] Speaker 3: has been so well supported as a live service game
[54:10] Speaker 3: with constant updates. And if the wild Gade team takes
[54:14] Speaker 3: a similar tack and goes for a same you know
[54:17] Speaker 3: kind of set up and drive, I think it's going
[54:19] Speaker 3: to be pretty successful the way that Hell Divers has
[54:22] Speaker 3: been pretty successful, So I hope that is the route
[54:25] Speaker 3: they take. Yeah, I'm constantly surprised this publisher, Dreamhaven, I believe, Yeah,
[54:33] Speaker 3: which is a lot of ex Blizzard folks and stuff
[54:36] Speaker 3: like that is Mike Morheim. Yeah, they also put out
[54:42] Speaker 3: Sunderfolk earlier this year. There's been some really cool stuff
[54:46] Speaker 3: coming out of that publisher, specifically in a way that
[54:50] Speaker 3: has made me take notice because I do think the
[54:54] Speaker 3: multiplayer space hasn't just needed something like this, It's needed
[54:57] Speaker 3: a publisher that won to kind of push the ideas
[55:03] Speaker 3: forward a little bit rather than kind of look at
[55:05] Speaker 3: what is around and imitate or kind of use blueprints
[55:10] Speaker 3: to build their thing. Instead, we see like a publisher
[55:13] Speaker 3: that's putting out some pretty fresh ideas, some pretty cool ideas,
[55:16] Speaker 3: and I.
[55:17] Speaker 2: Really like that.
[55:17] Speaker 3: I'm really excited for it, and both Underfolk and Wildgate
[55:21] Speaker 3: have been huge surprises for me this year.
[55:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, there are definitely one to watch going forward. I'm
[55:29] Speaker 1: having a lot of fun with this. I'm trying to
[55:32] Speaker 1: just real quick see which platforms it's on so I
[55:35] Speaker 1: can point people in that direction. I'll say it's cross play.
[55:37] Speaker 1: It's actually cross progression as well, so if you link
[55:39] Speaker 1: your accounts and you want to play on PC or
[55:42] Speaker 1: console or whatever, you can kind of carry your progress over.
[55:46] Speaker 1: It's on Xbox, PS five and Steam for those For
[55:51] Speaker 1: those interested. I'm really enjoying it. I'm going to keep
[55:53] Speaker 1: playing it. I actually kind of want to play some tonight.
[55:57] Speaker 1: I can convince Eric and.
[55:58] Speaker 3: The squad my arm man coome on. Yeah, but we
[56:03] Speaker 3: will hand it back to you. Marcus.
[56:05] Speaker 1: You have been playing roughly what five hours of Silent
[56:09] Speaker 1: Hill F.
[56:10] Speaker 2: Yeah. I about two weeks ago, I took a trip
[56:12] Speaker 2: to Tokyo to visit a Konami's like esports office, which
[56:17] Speaker 2: I didn't realize is the thing that.
[56:18] Speaker 3: They had Silent Hill E Sports. Let's go.
[56:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, the F stands for.
[56:26] Speaker 3: Hmmm, faker fakers in this one.
[56:30] Speaker 1: Yeah that's a guy, right, yeah, yeah, yess sports person.
[56:36] Speaker 2: Yeah he's a human male, we can confirm. But yes,
[56:41] Speaker 2: I we for a special media event. We got to
[56:45] Speaker 2: play the first five hours of the game, and so yeah,
[56:51] Speaker 2: which is very exciting. I love horror, I love survival horror.
[56:54] Speaker 2: But I'm only a recent Silent Hill. I don't know
[56:57] Speaker 2: if converse the word I'm want to use, because I
[56:59] Speaker 2: suggested I was like had something against the series, but
[57:02] Speaker 2: I was I came to it late. Like I was
[57:04] Speaker 2: always a resident evil guy and there was no like
[57:08] Speaker 2: Shade to Silent Hill. It wasn't like residenteval all the way.
[57:10] Speaker 2: Screw Silent Hill. I just never got around to playing
[57:15] Speaker 2: in the Silent Hill games. You know that happened sometimes.
[57:17] Speaker 2: And there's like two very similar franchises.
[57:19] Speaker 1: And then you picked up with me with Splinter Celling
[57:21] Speaker 1: metal Gear. I was always a splinter Cell.
[57:23] Speaker 2: I was the same way, but I was metal Gear.
[57:25] Speaker 2: And I was saying with like I was a rationing
[57:27] Speaker 2: clank kid or not even kid, teenager really by that point.
[57:30] Speaker 2: But like got around to Jacket.
[57:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, like I played, I was Jack over Ratchet. Yeah yeah.
[57:36] Speaker 2: And then the real ones played Slight Cooper, which I
[57:38] Speaker 2: also played.
[57:40] Speaker 3: Hell yeah, there's like there's a dozen people out there
[57:42] Speaker 3: who took that route. Yeah, Kenny Shepherd, much love.
[57:45] Speaker 2: To you, very much like a Slight Cooper of the
[57:49] Speaker 2: ninety eighth Degrees to the Battery Boys and in syncram.
[57:51] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
[57:54] Speaker 2: So it really wasn't until like, technically my first Silent
[57:58] Speaker 2: Hill game was pt which was originally going to be
[58:01] Speaker 2: Silent Hills, and then but after that, if we want
[58:05] Speaker 2: to count like a full game. Weirdly enough, it was
[58:07] Speaker 2: that free Silent Hill game that came out last year.
[58:10] Speaker 2: Was it the short message the one that they like
[58:12] Speaker 2: shadow dropped during after a Silent Hill transmission? Like I
[58:16] Speaker 2: streamed that entire games. It's like two three hours I
[58:20] Speaker 2: think it takes to get through it. And then I
[58:22] Speaker 2: played Silent Hill two, not the remake, but the original
[58:26] Speaker 2: Silent Hill two last year for the first time ahead
[58:29] Speaker 2: of the remake, because I wanted to play the remake
[58:31] Speaker 2: when informed opinion, and then I sat in, well I
[58:34] Speaker 2: guess then before that I didn't play it, but I
[58:35] Speaker 2: sat in for the entirety of our Silent Hill won
[58:38] Speaker 2: Super replay that we did a couple of years ago,
[58:40] Speaker 2: but Kylon myself, so I've seen everything that happens in
[58:44] Speaker 2: Silent Hill.
[58:45] Speaker 3: One.
[58:45] Speaker 2: That is all to say that Silent Hill f is
[58:48] Speaker 2: a great jumping on point if you're like me and
[58:51] Speaker 2: maybe don't have as complete of a Silent Hill history
[58:54] Speaker 2: as maybe like more hardcore fans. Because one, it's set
[58:58] Speaker 2: in the nineteen sixties, so like, wait before anything else
[59:01] Speaker 2: happened really in the series. And also it takes place
[59:03] Speaker 2: in Japan for the first time. It doesn't take place
[59:06] Speaker 2: in Silent Hill the town itself. It is set in
[59:09] Speaker 2: a fictional town that I'm not even going to attempt
[59:12] Speaker 2: to pronounce because it's a it's a mouthful, but it's
[59:16] Speaker 2: basically like it is a small kind of secluded town
[59:20] Speaker 2: out in the countryside, kind of a rural little.
[59:22] Speaker 3: Village Ibusu Gayoka.
[59:25] Speaker 2: That's probably correct. That's yeah. It's like I know it
[59:28] Speaker 2: started with an E.
[59:30] Speaker 3: Yeah. I was like, let's I'll take a stab at
[59:32] Speaker 3: this one. I took Japanese class in high school.
[59:36] Speaker 2: Okay, nice, well more than me. I I did learn
[59:40] Speaker 2: how to count the ten of Japanese ahead of this trip.
[59:42] Speaker 2: I can do that, oh perfect, Yeah, to be I
[59:44] Speaker 2: didn't get to use it though, But yeah, like we
[59:49] Speaker 2: got to also speak to the We did like group
[59:52] Speaker 2: interviews with kind of the the the inner circle to
[59:54] Speaker 2: the top brass there because you know, this is a
[59:57] Speaker 2: economy publish game of course, but this is developed by Neobards,
[1:00:00] Speaker 2: which is a separate studio. Is no internal Yeah, Konami
[1:00:04] Speaker 2: is not developing this internally. They've given us to another studio.
[1:00:09] Speaker 3: Huh okay, yeah.
[1:00:11] Speaker 1: Oh they worked on some DLC for Resident Evil Resistance. Yes,
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: they like helped collaborate on some of that. Yeah, which
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: is a game that I totally completely forgot about.
[1:00:21] Speaker 3: I played that thing. It was interesting, if I remember correctly.
[1:00:25] Speaker 3: Ryukishi O seven is also writing on this one.
[1:00:29] Speaker 2: Yes, he's the head writer who is a Are you
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: familiar with his work because he's kind of like an acclaim.
[1:00:34] Speaker 3: Visual novel author. Yeah, time for me to really expose
[1:00:38] Speaker 3: the sicko stuff. Higurashi when They Cry and umen Eko
[1:00:41] Speaker 3: are are pretty well known in visual novel spaces, and
[1:00:44] Speaker 3: that was definitely something that made people take notice when
[1:00:48] Speaker 3: the first announcement for Silent HILLF went out and Ryukishi's
[1:00:51] Speaker 3: name was in there. That's Higurashi is a very well
[1:00:55] Speaker 3: known horror visual novel and umen Eko. I don't. I
[1:01:00] Speaker 3: haven't played all of umen Eko, so I'm sorry. I'm
[1:01:02] Speaker 3: maybe like a quarter of the way through it and
[1:01:04] Speaker 3: I never went back to it. I want to at
[1:01:05] Speaker 3: some point. It's like the ivan Ho of visual novels.
[1:01:09] Speaker 3: It's huge, it's massive, or the Ulysses, but it's UH.
[1:01:16] Speaker 3: I think that was definitely if you look at just
[1:01:19] Speaker 3: themes ideas and the sort of vibe of previous work. R.
[1:01:23] Speaker 3: Yukishi has definitely worked in that sort of rural horror
[1:01:27] Speaker 3: in Japan UH space before UH to success.
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: So I think there was You just took me on
[1:01:33] Speaker 1: a trip, Eric, you said umin Eko. I heard bluemin Echo,
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: and then my brain went to bluemin Onion.
[1:01:39] Speaker 3: I was a different world.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: Wow, bluemin Onion. I was in a different space. I'm
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: back though, I came back.
[1:01:47] Speaker 2: You came from.
[1:01:48] Speaker 3: Would you would you go to Silent Hill for a
[1:01:51] Speaker 3: bluemin Onion. That's that's the real problem. Definitely not. I
[1:01:55] Speaker 3: wouldn't even order a bloomin Onion at outback.
[1:01:58] Speaker 2: Probably have an outback. It is an American town, so
[1:02:00] Speaker 2: there's probably an outback in there.
[1:02:02] Speaker 3: Somewhere, yet I used to work in it.
[1:02:04] Speaker 2: Out back, so I've I have served more than my
[1:02:07] Speaker 2: fair share of bluemin onions.
[1:02:08] Speaker 3: Does that mean there's like a cheesecake factory in Silent Hill.
[1:02:11] Speaker 3: There's gotta be right, there's always one. I feel like
[1:02:15] Speaker 3: there's a cheesecake factory in all Americas.
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: Oh my god, Salent Hill f Silent Hill Factory.
[1:02:22] Speaker 3: I was going to ask the F. Did you get
[1:02:25] Speaker 3: confirmation for what the F stands for? Because it looks
[1:02:27] Speaker 3: like the musical symbol for THEE, and so that's always
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: what I've thought the implication was.
[1:02:32] Speaker 2: So it was definitely asked in the group interview we did,
[1:02:36] Speaker 2: and unfortunately they are being very tight lipped about it,
[1:02:40] Speaker 2: like they gave us the vague kind of like, well,
[1:02:42] Speaker 2: you know, we could mean a lot of things. You're
[1:02:44] Speaker 2: just gonna have to play the game to see and
[1:02:46] Speaker 2: maybe interpret it for yourself, but we're gonna we're gonna
[1:02:49] Speaker 2: pass on that question. So I still don't know what
[1:02:52] Speaker 2: the F means exactly. But uh, when I did ask
[1:02:57] Speaker 2: them sort of like what when they looked at previous
[1:03:00] Speaker 2: Silent Hill games, like what was kind of maybe the
[1:03:03] Speaker 2: entries that maybe served as the biggest inspirations for this game,
[1:03:07] Speaker 2: and the creative director over at neobar as al Yang
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: responded by saying that it was definitely Silent Hill one
[1:03:14] Speaker 2: and two, which probably isn't super surprising, but then he
[1:03:18] Speaker 2: also said Silent Hill for the room was a big
[1:03:22] Speaker 2: inspiration specifically for combat in Silent Hill F So to
[1:03:28] Speaker 2: set the table, you play as a like high school
[1:03:31] Speaker 2: teenage girl named uh Heiniko who is a sort of
[1:03:37] Speaker 2: like rebellious teenager. She's kind of described as being like
[1:03:41] Speaker 2: very masculine, like kind of a tomboy because she won
[1:03:45] Speaker 2: her childhood best friend as a boy. She kind of
[1:03:49] Speaker 2: rebels against sort of the feminine norms of the time,
[1:03:53] Speaker 2: mainly because she has kind of like a very rough
[1:03:57] Speaker 2: home life, Like she has an abusive father who who
[1:04:00] Speaker 2: is always kind of like terrorizing, you know, herself and
[1:04:04] Speaker 2: her mother, and unfortunately her mother is like very subservient
[1:04:08] Speaker 2: to their father, Like she doesn't really like Niko resents
[1:04:12] Speaker 2: her mom like she hates her dad, but resents her
[1:04:15] Speaker 2: mom because her mom apparently does nothing to sort of
[1:04:18] Speaker 2: stop their dad from being abusive. And I think that
[1:04:21] Speaker 2: sort of like forms her sort of like, well, I'm
[1:04:24] Speaker 2: going to rebella just against the concepts of just like
[1:04:26] Speaker 2: gender norms pretty much of like you know, the woman
[1:04:29] Speaker 2: has to just sort of answer to the man no
[1:04:31] Speaker 2: matter what and put up with all kinds of like
[1:04:33] Speaker 2: bs and kind of The only person that she likes
[1:04:37] Speaker 2: in her family is her older sister, Like they sort
[1:04:39] Speaker 2: of portray her as like, Oh, she's like my hero.
[1:04:42] Speaker 2: I love her. She's always been there for me. But
[1:04:43] Speaker 2: unfortunately her sister has been since been married and has
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: moved out, So she's stuck in this this terrible home
[1:04:51] Speaker 2: life by herself without that support system anymore, and so
[1:04:55] Speaker 2: she has to rely on sort of her her friends.
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: Like I mentioned, she has a best friend named Shu
[1:05:00] Speaker 2: who she's in friends with childhood, and they have this
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: very sort of like like ride or die kind of
[1:05:06] Speaker 2: relationship because he always treated her as an equal of like, oh,
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: I don't care if you're a girl, like you're my
[1:05:11] Speaker 2: like his his his big trade is that he keeps
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: calling her partner, because that was like sort of exemplifies
[1:05:16] Speaker 2: like no, no, you're not my sidekick, You're you're my partner.
[1:05:19] Speaker 2: Like we're you know, even Stevens on everything. We're gonna
[1:05:21] Speaker 2: go take over the world together, and then she has
[1:05:24] Speaker 2: two other like female friends like like Sokka go well
[1:05:27] Speaker 2: you might remember in one of the trailers where she
[1:05:29] Speaker 2: calls uh he to go a trader at one point,
[1:05:32] Speaker 2: and then another friend named Rinko. And so very quickly
[1:05:37] Speaker 2: you're you're going into this small town and as you're
[1:05:40] Speaker 2: hanging out with your friends, all of a sudden, without
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: really any warning or explanation, a familiar fog rolls through
[1:05:48] Speaker 2: the town and you see these like crimson red kind
[1:05:51] Speaker 2: of like vein like vines just kind of snake and
[1:05:53] Speaker 2: take over everything, and everyone in a town other than
[1:05:57] Speaker 2: you and your friends is it just vanishes like it's
[1:06:00] Speaker 2: like early quiet, and then you become separated. Some other
[1:06:05] Speaker 2: gnarly stuff happens that I won't spoil them, but very
[1:06:09] Speaker 2: quickly you are thrown into like, oh, the town has
[1:06:11] Speaker 2: just kind of been shaped into a nightmar's version of yourself,
[1:06:14] Speaker 2: and you need to go find your other friends who
[1:06:17] Speaker 2: may or may not be dead, and just kind of
[1:06:20] Speaker 2: find a way to escape and also figure out like
[1:06:22] Speaker 2: what is even happening here. So what I like about
[1:06:25] Speaker 2: the game in terms of the design is that, unlike
[1:06:31] Speaker 2: like Silent Hill one or two, where you're kind of
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: exploring the town, which is like really big, wide spaces,
[1:06:35] Speaker 2: like monsters are roaming around freely, like you got the
[1:06:39] Speaker 2: weird kind of like fleshy mannequin looking creatures that you've
[1:06:41] Speaker 2: seen in other Silent Hill games, but any older games.
[1:06:44] Speaker 2: I always thought that the kind of wide design trivialized
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: them as a threat because you could easily just kind
[1:06:49] Speaker 2: of run past them, like very easily, like unless you
[1:06:53] Speaker 2: were inside of a building, anytime you had to run
[1:06:56] Speaker 2: outside and get to the next building, it was kind
[1:06:58] Speaker 2: of just like I'm just gonna run away from this guy,
[1:07:02] Speaker 2: Ben Hill, Yeah, yeah, and they give up pretty easily.
[1:07:05] Speaker 2: Where in this game, everything is a lot more narrow
[1:07:08] Speaker 2: and corda focused because the town is a lot of
[1:07:10] Speaker 2: like narrow alleyways and streets, so you can't really do
[1:07:13] Speaker 2: that as well. So a lot of times you'll have
[1:07:16] Speaker 2: to go down like a pathway and there's a guy
[1:07:19] Speaker 2: right in front of you, and you're like, I I
[1:07:22] Speaker 2: have to go past that guy, like there's no other
[1:07:24] Speaker 2: way around him. And so the way you kind of
[1:07:27] Speaker 2: circumvent that, like you can fight enemies if you want to.
[1:07:30] Speaker 2: And going back to Neobar's Silent Hill for inspiration. Apparently
[1:07:35] Speaker 2: I've not played Silent Hill for but they were saying
[1:07:37] Speaker 2: how that game had a lot more melee focused action,
[1:07:40] Speaker 2: and so they took that here where you're never going
[1:07:42] Speaker 2: to use a gun. There's no range combat at all apparently,
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: which makes sense because Haniko is just like a kid basically,
[1:07:49] Speaker 2: So all the combat is melee focus and you're picking
[1:07:51] Speaker 2: up pipes and bats and knives and weapons also degrade,
[1:07:57] Speaker 2: so if you use something for too long, it'll bring
[1:08:00] Speaker 2: You can repair them with like toolkiss that you can find,
[1:08:03] Speaker 2: but you're always kind of making the decision of Okay,
[1:08:06] Speaker 2: I've got this bat that's pretty powerful, but do I
[1:08:09] Speaker 2: want to wear it down on this enemy that's right
[1:08:11] Speaker 2: in front of me? Or can I try to like
[1:08:12] Speaker 2: circumvent them in a way because I just don't want
[1:08:14] Speaker 2: to deal with that. And so if you choose the
[1:08:18] Speaker 2: escape option, you have a dodge that you can do
[1:08:21] Speaker 2: to sort of evade attacks, and it's all dictated by
[1:08:24] Speaker 2: a staminameter that you have, So when you dodge, if
[1:08:29] Speaker 2: you do like a perfect dodge or like the last second,
[1:08:32] Speaker 2: you'll automatically replenish the meter. But other than that, it's
[1:08:35] Speaker 2: just sort of functions as just like a you know, like, oh,
[1:08:38] Speaker 2: I'm just gonna get out of the way, just a
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: little dodge there, and it kind of teaches you to
[1:08:41] Speaker 2: sort of read the enemy movements, which are really quick
[1:08:44] Speaker 2: and really erratic in a way that is just kind
[1:08:46] Speaker 2: of like not only challenging from a gameplay perspective, but
[1:08:49] Speaker 2: just kind of just disturbing, just kind of raises your
[1:08:51] Speaker 2: hair to just how things animate in the game. The
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: other meter that you have is sanity, so sanity based
[1:09:00] Speaker 2: goes it takes hits from psychological damage. And the way
[1:09:04] Speaker 2: that this works is that you have a ability called focus,
[1:09:08] Speaker 2: where if you decide to engage in a combat, so
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: you have light and heavy attacks, and it's very slow
[1:09:14] Speaker 2: and deliberate and almost clumsy in a way that fits
[1:09:17] Speaker 2: the character of like she's not a fighter by any stretch.
[1:09:19] Speaker 2: She's just a girl with a pipe just swinging for
[1:09:22] Speaker 2: the fences basically, So it feels not is like, it
[1:09:26] Speaker 2: feels slow and not refined in a way that makes
[1:09:28] Speaker 2: sense thematically. So you can just smash things on your
[1:09:35] Speaker 2: own and just sort of like get by, But if
[1:09:37] Speaker 2: you focus, you can sort of like really lock in
[1:09:40] Speaker 2: on an enemy and it makes it easier to see
[1:09:44] Speaker 2: vulnerabilities that you can counterattack in. And the way you
[1:09:48] Speaker 2: can tell is that during certain animations, the enemy we're
[1:09:51] Speaker 2: kind of almost like like emit this sort of like glow.
[1:09:55] Speaker 2: I don't even know if glows the word. It's almost
[1:09:57] Speaker 2: like a weird, like stuttery little effect, but it's like
[1:10:01] Speaker 2: really quick, but it is like noticeable, and if you
[1:10:04] Speaker 2: attack them, when that happens, it like automatically stuns them
[1:10:08] Speaker 2: and they can't move for like a second, and you
[1:10:09] Speaker 2: can either whale on them or use it as an escape,
[1:10:12] Speaker 2: you know, just to run away, but you can only
[1:10:15] Speaker 2: and if you use focus it makes this opening a
[1:10:18] Speaker 2: lot more clear and maybe lasts longer. But the longer
[1:10:21] Speaker 2: you focus, the more you drain your stamina meter. So
[1:10:24] Speaker 2: you're again you're kind of making a choice of what
[1:10:26] Speaker 2: like is it worth using this resource on something? And
[1:10:29] Speaker 2: I guess, like the I think contextually, I guess the
[1:10:32] Speaker 2: idea is like, oh, you're forcing yourself to stare at
[1:10:34] Speaker 2: this really scary, disturbing thing, so it's going to freak
[1:10:37] Speaker 2: you out the more you're looking at it. You also
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: have a focus attack, which is basically if you hit
[1:10:43] Speaker 2: the attack button. While you're focusing, you'll do this really
[1:10:46] Speaker 2: powerful attack, like it's the most powerful version of your attack,
[1:10:49] Speaker 2: but it costs you chunks of stamina to hit. But
[1:10:52] Speaker 2: sometimes you can one shot a weaker enemy with it,
[1:10:55] Speaker 2: or at least severely damage a stronger enemy. But it's
[1:10:58] Speaker 2: dangerous because if there is like a lined up to it,
[1:11:00] Speaker 2: and if you get hit while you're doing this focused attack,
[1:11:04] Speaker 2: not only will you lose sanity, but the sanity bar
[1:11:07] Speaker 2: itself gets lowered, So now you have less overall stamina
[1:11:11] Speaker 2: even if you refill it, So you really have to
[1:11:13] Speaker 2: kind of consider, like do I want to use a
[1:11:15] Speaker 2: focus attack right now? So this game in almost a
[1:11:19] Speaker 2: and almost a weirdly souls ish way between that, like
[1:11:23] Speaker 2: how important it is to read animations and also manage
[1:11:26] Speaker 2: a stamina meter. It's got a soul's ish kind of
[1:11:28] Speaker 2: vibe to it that makes it adds to the intensity
[1:11:33] Speaker 2: and sort of the it like the survival aspect and
[1:11:36] Speaker 2: a sense of like not only are you managing you know,
[1:11:39] Speaker 2: health items and weapon repair items in the way that
[1:11:42] Speaker 2: you would in any other survival horror game, but also
[1:11:45] Speaker 2: you're managing just sort of like your physical abilities, like okay,
[1:11:49] Speaker 2: I don't want to run out of stamina. I don't
[1:11:51] Speaker 2: run a run out of sanity. I need to make
[1:11:53] Speaker 2: sure these things are all tip top. It's really fascinating,
[1:11:58] Speaker 2: but I think it it works for the most part.
[1:12:01] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:12:02] Speaker 2: I do have a couple of like misgivings with the combat, though,
[1:12:06] Speaker 2: mainly regarding the stamina meter. I think the stamina recovers
[1:12:11] Speaker 2: a bit too slowly for how fast the enemies are
[1:12:15] Speaker 2: compared to your movements. Like, so not only like the stamina,
[1:12:21] Speaker 2: even if you don't completely drain it, like let's just say,
[1:12:23] Speaker 2: you know, you just you just use a chunk of it,
[1:12:25] Speaker 2: there's like a like a good second second and a
[1:12:29] Speaker 2: half pause before it starts to refill. And that's like
[1:12:32] Speaker 2: really slow for a staminameter in my opinion, because one
[1:12:36] Speaker 2: a lot of your movements do take out a drained
[1:12:39] Speaker 2: stamina meter pretty quickly, and also running drain your stamina.
[1:12:44] Speaker 2: So if you're just trying to just get away from something,
[1:12:46] Speaker 2: you are having to watch your stamina meter. And there
[1:12:48] Speaker 2: were a lot of times where it drains so fast
[1:12:50] Speaker 2: it takes someone to recover that. I I just was
[1:12:52] Speaker 2: vulnerable to things, and Hannako is pretty fragile as a character,
[1:12:57] Speaker 2: like she goes down pretty quick, and so there be
[1:12:59] Speaker 2: times were like, oh, I took a swing at something
[1:13:01] Speaker 2: and then just so that you get out of the
[1:13:03] Speaker 2: way and I need to run pass and like, oh,
[1:13:05] Speaker 2: I'm out of stamina and I can't move, and then
[1:13:07] Speaker 2: all of a sudden, this thing retaliates and just cuts
[1:13:09] Speaker 2: me down immediately, where it like the more it happened
[1:13:13] Speaker 2: to more it felt like it feels a little unfair,
[1:13:15] Speaker 2: just because it seems like, if you're going to give
[1:13:17] Speaker 2: me the option to run away, I feel like this
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: needs to be a little bit more forgiving to do that,
[1:13:21] Speaker 2: like I'm running out of breath off it. And also
[1:13:25] Speaker 2: even just narratively because like I don't know how many
[1:13:28] Speaker 2: other media people did this, But you have a journal
[1:13:31] Speaker 2: in the game, it's like Hanako's journal. She fills it out,
[1:13:33] Speaker 2: that's kind of It's basically serves as like, oh, here's
[1:13:36] Speaker 2: here's your profile, and all the characters you made, here's
[1:13:38] Speaker 2: the story thus far, that kind of thing. And she
[1:13:41] Speaker 2: writes an entry about herself and she mentions that like, yeah,
[1:13:44] Speaker 2: I used to run track in school, and I'm like,
[1:13:47] Speaker 2: you should have some fantastic standard why are you running
[1:13:51] Speaker 2: out of bread doubling over every two seconds?
[1:13:52] Speaker 3: She didn't say she was good at running track, to
[1:13:55] Speaker 3: be fair, she just said she did it.
[1:13:58] Speaker 2: That's a good point. I remember say, like I was
[1:14:00] Speaker 2: winning gold medals left and right. Yeah, though she probably
[1:14:04] Speaker 2: wouldn't say that because she doesn't have the highest opinion
[1:14:06] Speaker 2: of herself, like one of her injuries, like the first
[1:14:08] Speaker 2: sentence that she described herself as something along the lines
[1:14:11] Speaker 2: of there's nothing extraordinary about me whatsoever, Like she's pretty.
[1:14:16] Speaker 2: Her self esteem needs some work basically, So maybe she
[1:14:18] Speaker 2: was great, but she's like, nah.
[1:14:19] Speaker 3: It was trash.
[1:14:21] Speaker 2: But yeah, her lack of her lack of lungs is
[1:14:24] Speaker 2: a bit concerning. It's like, man, you should be better
[1:14:26] Speaker 2: than this. But this, the whole stamina issue definitely came
[1:14:29] Speaker 2: to a head in a very big boss fight. That
[1:14:31] Speaker 2: happens that like presentation wise, looks amazing, Like this thing
[1:14:35] Speaker 2: that you're fighting done, I'm not gonna spoil it looks
[1:14:37] Speaker 2: just you look at that thing and you're just like,
[1:14:39] Speaker 2: oh my god, what is that is that? Like, don't
[1:14:42] Speaker 2: like that? Get that? And they had It's funny because
[1:14:44] Speaker 2: in the demo room they had a physical model of
[1:14:47] Speaker 2: it that was just like looming over us the whole time,
[1:14:49] Speaker 2: just like and I was like right next to it,
[1:14:51] Speaker 2: so I was like, this is a creepy thing to happen.
[1:14:52] Speaker 3: Next to me. Yeah. I dislike those so much. Every
[1:14:56] Speaker 3: time there was a was it the elden Ring Shadow
[1:14:59] Speaker 3: of the Earth Tree event where they had a giant
[1:15:02] Speaker 3: recreation of Mikola's hand coming out of the giant flesh,
[1:15:07] Speaker 3: remember that, Oh it was? It was Did you touch it?
[1:15:11] Speaker 2: I hugged it.
[1:15:13] Speaker 3: It's a picture of m Yeah. No, I definitely took
[1:15:17] Speaker 3: a picture of like next to the arm with like
[1:15:19] Speaker 3: it like next to my face, being like ah, and
[1:15:21] Speaker 3: then I was like, oh, this is disgusting. So then
[1:15:24] Speaker 3: every time I saw it, I was like, at least
[1:15:27] Speaker 3: that was an arm. This thing is is far worse.
[1:15:30] Speaker 3: How many how many arms are we talking on this one?
[1:15:33] Speaker 3: Normal arms?
[1:15:34] Speaker 2: But normal let's say it's it looks like a child,
[1:15:40] Speaker 2: but like the child had its mouth ripped off and
[1:15:44] Speaker 2: just had like a gaping, fleshy thing and had a
[1:15:47] Speaker 2: lot of pins, like really sharp pins just sticking out
[1:15:49] Speaker 2: of it at different places, and its eyes were missing,
[1:15:53] Speaker 2: and yeah, it just looks like yeah, just just nightmare
[1:15:56] Speaker 2: fuel pretty so a little like hell Razor esque kind
[1:15:59] Speaker 2: of little bit, but also a little like angelic too,
[1:16:02] Speaker 2: because it's wearing like priest robes okay, okay, yeah, and
[1:16:07] Speaker 2: it's carrying like a big old hammer and that there's
[1:16:08] Speaker 2: also like covered in.
[1:16:09] Speaker 3: Spikes that it swings at you. Oh that seems bad, okay, yeah.
[1:16:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, So you're fighting this thing later in the game,
[1:16:17] Speaker 2: and this fight was unbelievably frustrating, and I knew it
[1:16:22] Speaker 2: wasn't just me because I would look around in other
[1:16:25] Speaker 2: media people like, you know, it's the journalists and influencers playing,
[1:16:28] Speaker 2: and everyone was stuck on this fight for a while.
[1:16:30] Speaker 2: Like it became like and I was talking to people afterwards,
[1:16:32] Speaker 2: like how long did it take you to beat that
[1:16:34] Speaker 2: weird demon girl? And they were like, it took me
[1:16:36] Speaker 2: an hour, and that was like the common like like
[1:16:39] Speaker 2: the average light it took me like forty tries, and
[1:16:41] Speaker 2: a lot of the everyone seemed to have the same
[1:16:44] Speaker 2: thing of like, yeah, I just felt like I just
[1:16:45] Speaker 2: kept getting tired constantly, like I didn't have the stamdina
[1:16:47] Speaker 2: because it again, it is a very Soul's esque fight
[1:16:50] Speaker 2: of like having to dodge attacks in succession, which drained
[1:16:55] Speaker 2: your stamina, and because it takes forever to recover the
[1:16:58] Speaker 2: moment you run out, you're just like bone for way
[1:17:00] Speaker 2: too long. And that thing retaliates so quickly that and
[1:17:03] Speaker 2: it hits so hard, it's like two hits, you're done.
[1:17:05] Speaker 2: And you know, so you're trying to dodge like let's
[1:17:08] Speaker 2: say three attacks in a row and then have enough
[1:17:10] Speaker 2: to try to get some damage in. And you know,
[1:17:14] Speaker 2: it was a fight that just dragged on too long,
[1:17:17] Speaker 2: and it felt like your stamina just could not handle
[1:17:20] Speaker 2: what was being thrown at you. And by the time
[1:17:23] Speaker 2: I beat it, it was just like I felt like
[1:17:25] Speaker 2: I just kind of eked it out a little bit,
[1:17:27] Speaker 2: like it didn't feel totally like yeah, yeah, I learned
[1:17:29] Speaker 2: my lesson and got good. It's just like I just
[1:17:32] Speaker 2: did the best of what I had and then had.
[1:17:33] Speaker 2: I felt like some degree of luck involved. The only
[1:17:37] Speaker 2: other things that you can use to sort of like
[1:17:38] Speaker 2: turn it tide in your favor that you can collect
[1:17:40] Speaker 2: these equippable charms called a omamori, Like you can only
[1:17:44] Speaker 2: equip one at a time, but they basically give you
[1:17:46] Speaker 2: passive like perks of like oh maybe you're I don't know,
[1:17:50] Speaker 2: you do a little bit more attack damage, or maybe
[1:17:52] Speaker 2: your stamina at your dodge window is a little wider
[1:17:54] Speaker 2: like stuff like that. So I was trying to swap
[1:17:58] Speaker 2: through all the ones I had try to make this
[1:18:00] Speaker 2: fight a little more bearable. Yeah, it was. It was rough,
[1:18:05] Speaker 2: and it also sucked because at least in my specific case,
[1:18:08] Speaker 2: I didn't have all the healing items I could have,
[1:18:10] Speaker 2: just because I I just entered the fight when I
[1:18:14] Speaker 2: had run through this already hellish gauntlet to get to it,
[1:18:17] Speaker 2: and then I had like maybe two heels left, and
[1:18:19] Speaker 2: it didn't replenish my heels because you just load your
[1:18:21] Speaker 2: last save instead of just starting the fight from like
[1:18:24] Speaker 2: like a fresh slate. So I was like, oh, man,
[1:18:25] Speaker 2: is it if I had no like heels when I've
[1:18:29] Speaker 2: more or less saved myself into a corner and had
[1:18:30] Speaker 2: to reload like a away earlier save and then try
[1:18:34] Speaker 2: to run through a large section again with most of
[1:18:37] Speaker 2: my items intact, Like that seems like that could potentially
[1:18:40] Speaker 2: be a problem. So yeah, like that, it almost was
[1:18:43] Speaker 2: like that's a little maybe two old school survival whore
[1:18:46] Speaker 2: in that case. But yeah, other than that, when you're
[1:18:50] Speaker 2: not fighting and running away from stuff, I do like
[1:18:54] Speaker 2: the like I love the atmospheric to gain, like I
[1:18:57] Speaker 2: love the level design. I do like that everything's a
[1:18:59] Speaker 2: little bit more corridor focus because it makes it scary
[1:19:01] Speaker 2: that you kind of have to throw yourself in front
[1:19:03] Speaker 2: of things a little more often. There's like cool optional
[1:19:06] Speaker 2: things that you can find because like in between, like
[1:19:10] Speaker 2: like you know, you have a big map that kind
[1:19:11] Speaker 2: of just tells you at all times, like you know, hey,
[1:19:13] Speaker 2: this is what you need to go to, Like it
[1:19:14] Speaker 2: does the silent hill two thing of like oh, if
[1:19:16] Speaker 2: you hit a dead end, it marks like as an
[1:19:18] Speaker 2: X on the map, and then your objectives always painted
[1:19:21] Speaker 2: in like a circle or whatever. But in between heading
[1:19:24] Speaker 2: to wherever you need to go, you can find like
[1:19:25] Speaker 2: certain buildings that are open and there might be like
[1:19:28] Speaker 2: side little puzzles or stories. Like I went into like
[1:19:31] Speaker 2: a doctor's office at one point that had like a
[1:19:33] Speaker 2: little self contained like puzzle and like enemy that was
[1:19:37] Speaker 2: in there that like got me an item once I
[1:19:39] Speaker 2: solved it, and then like little war bits of like
[1:19:41] Speaker 2: oh what happened to this doctor? Like he's the town doctor.
[1:19:43] Speaker 2: Everybody knows what who he is, what's up with him?
[1:19:46] Speaker 2: Is he all right? Like that stuff I love and
[1:19:49] Speaker 2: whenever you are inside of a building, that is when
[1:19:52] Speaker 2: it gets the most silent Hillie. Like I there's like
[1:19:56] Speaker 2: towards the end of my demo, you go to your
[1:19:58] Speaker 2: old middle school, and that was probably my favorite, and
[1:20:01] Speaker 2: when I talk to other media people, that seem to
[1:20:04] Speaker 2: be their favorite parts, because that's when it just becomes like, Okay,
[1:20:07] Speaker 2: this is like straight up classic silent hill survival whore
[1:20:10] Speaker 2: of Like you're in this middle school. They're a locked doors,
[1:20:13] Speaker 2: you're trying to find keys, You're solving these little puzzles
[1:20:16] Speaker 2: in there. Enemies show up at a certain point, but
[1:20:19] Speaker 2: in really like creative ways, and it's like, oh yeah,
[1:20:22] Speaker 2: this school sequence, like it's pretty cool, and there's like
[1:20:25] Speaker 2: really cool moments outside of that, Like there's a point
[1:20:27] Speaker 2: where you're like exploring the farm and at like a
[1:20:31] Speaker 2: farm at some point and dealing with like these these
[1:20:35] Speaker 2: like scarecrow mannequins and solving a puzzle where you're trying
[1:20:38] Speaker 2: to find like the correct scarecrow and like a bunch
[1:20:43] Speaker 2: of them, but they some of them are alive and
[1:20:45] Speaker 2: you don't know which ones we're alive, and because they
[1:20:47] Speaker 2: all they all look like they're going to come alive
[1:20:49] Speaker 2: and kill you, but you don't know which ones they are,
[1:20:51] Speaker 2: and then if you find the right one, it points
[1:20:52] Speaker 2: to you in the right direction, because it does like
[1:20:54] Speaker 2: a Lost Woods kind of thing of like, oh, you're
[1:20:57] Speaker 2: in a foggy area, if you just run through the
[1:20:59] Speaker 2: fogg you're gonna wind up back where you were seeming
[1:21:01] Speaker 2: to find a correct route. Like that stuff is cool,
[1:21:05] Speaker 2: And all the puzzles I did find, they were all,
[1:21:06] Speaker 2: for the most part, generally like pretty clever and like
[1:21:09] Speaker 2: fun to solve. There's only a couple that I was like,
[1:21:12] Speaker 2: I don't know if I totally understood what I was
[1:21:14] Speaker 2: supposed to do, and I sort of bumbled my way
[1:21:16] Speaker 2: through it. But those are definitely at least in the
[1:21:18] Speaker 2: batch that I played, like the minority. And then this
[1:21:22] Speaker 2: story stuff seemed interesting, like you do meet up with
[1:21:27] Speaker 2: your friends eventually, like this isn't a spoiler, like it's
[1:21:30] Speaker 2: pretty soon, And a lot of the sort of drama
[1:21:33] Speaker 2: comes with kind of the interpersonal relationships within them, like
[1:21:37] Speaker 2: your friend Shoe, who is like your best friend, Like
[1:21:39] Speaker 2: it's implying that he might have a bit of a
[1:21:41] Speaker 2: crush on you, but Hanniko is seemingly not interested and
[1:21:46] Speaker 2: then but you have another friend like Rinko who is
[1:21:48] Speaker 2: like maybe a little obsessed with Shoe and wants to
[1:21:53] Speaker 2: be in a relationship, and maybe he resents you a
[1:21:55] Speaker 2: little bit because you're his closest friend and he seemingly
[1:21:58] Speaker 2: isn't interested in Rinko, but you're not interested in Shoo,
[1:22:02] Speaker 2: and she's annoyed that, like he likes you but you
[1:22:05] Speaker 2: don't care, and it's like not fair, you know. So,
[1:22:09] Speaker 2: which is like another like Silent Hill thing of like
[1:22:12] Speaker 2: meeting these weird characters that have some like personal hang
[1:22:14] Speaker 2: ups that seem like, you know, I've only scratched the
[1:22:17] Speaker 2: surface of what's going on with them, but you can
[1:22:20] Speaker 2: kind of see a little bit of like, Okay, there's
[1:22:21] Speaker 2: some there's some stuff here as well as like Hannik's
[1:22:24] Speaker 2: own like personal trauma.
[1:22:27] Speaker 1: I will say this is I I really got stuck
[1:22:31] Speaker 1: on what the Silent Hill F could mean, and I.
[1:22:36] Speaker 3: Have done a van Aiken has been palace.
[1:22:41] Speaker 1: And while I don't know what the F stands for,
[1:22:43] Speaker 1: I did find some really fun facts.
[1:22:46] Speaker 2: Is that the stands for fun facts?
[1:22:48] Speaker 1: I think in this episode it does. The setting Silent
[1:22:53] Speaker 1: Hill F, according to Capcom, is drawn the Bisu Gyoka
[1:23:00] Speaker 1: is inspired by the real town of Kanayama in the
[1:23:05] Speaker 1: Gifu Prefecture, and there is some they kind of shared
[1:23:09] Speaker 1: some some screenshots. Is like, oh, that looks really familiar
[1:23:12] Speaker 1: to the game. So I went and looked up some
[1:23:15] Speaker 1: stuff about Kanayama and the Gizu Prefecture, and there is
[1:23:20] Speaker 1: actually a section of the town that is called the
[1:23:25] Speaker 1: Konkatsu alleyways, and they are if you look up the
[1:23:29] Speaker 1: Kankantsu alleyways, they look like they could be like screen
[1:23:35] Speaker 1: grab some silent hill. And I found a travel guide
[1:23:38] Speaker 1: about Kankatsu and it's visit Gifu dot com. But Kinkantsu,
[1:23:46] Speaker 1: I'm reading this quote. By the way, quote Kinkantsu is
[1:23:49] Speaker 1: the loku Kanayama phrase that's used for narrow alleyways that
[1:23:53] Speaker 1: intertwine so intricately that they resemble the muscles and the
[1:23:57] Speaker 1: bones of the human body. And I found out that
[1:24:01] Speaker 1: the kanayama uh sorry that kankatsu the term literally means
[1:24:06] Speaker 1: sinew and bones, and it's used to refer to the
[1:24:10] Speaker 1: backstreets of Hia Kanayama. And he's I'm reading from a
[1:24:15] Speaker 1: Kietsuno Japan dot com, which is a travel blog. These
[1:24:18] Speaker 1: narrow intertwined backstreets are said to resemble the sinews and
[1:24:22] Speaker 1: bones of the human body. Nostalgic scenery remain around the
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: Kanayama Juku rest stop at the Hita Kaido Road, which
[1:24:30] Speaker 1: is flourished as a post town since the Edo period.
[1:24:34] Speaker 1: Immerse yourself in a retro feeling. It's like being on
[1:24:36] Speaker 1: a movie set and enjoy a rustic dining experience at
[1:24:39] Speaker 1: a Japanese confectionery shop.
[1:24:41] Speaker 3: I love that this was the journey that you were
[1:24:44] Speaker 3: on this entire time, like you were playing hide over here,
[1:24:50] Speaker 3: like we're we're here, like, oh, Silent Hill, Yeah, let's
[1:24:53] Speaker 3: talk about that. And you're like, well, if you look
[1:24:55] Speaker 3: at where Mary Magdalen is sitting in the final well,
[1:24:59] Speaker 3: I found we could we should the next time we
[1:25:01] Speaker 3: go to town, I have.
[1:25:05] Speaker 1: Like found we got to do a video in this place,
[1:25:08] Speaker 1: the Konkatsu footpath within Kanayama, inside of the Geekoo Prefecture.
[1:25:13] Speaker 3: It's Silent Hill.
[1:25:14] Speaker 1: Alf Man because originally it started I was like, Talent Hill,
[1:25:17] Speaker 1: af could it mean Fuji which is a town in Chizuoka,
[1:25:21] Speaker 1: which is a seaside town I've been to that I
[1:25:23] Speaker 1: was looking at and looking at the screenshots from the game,
[1:25:26] Speaker 1: and I was like, this looks I feel like I've
[1:25:27] Speaker 1: been here, and then I got let down this this
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: this path.
[1:25:31] Speaker 2: I mean, I wonder if it's like like one of
[1:25:34] Speaker 2: the big themes with this game that they that would
[1:25:37] Speaker 2: be I hope not. It's so obvious that it's like, man,
[1:25:41] Speaker 2: I'd be Silent Hill fog. Yeah, you know this new
[1:25:45] Speaker 2: idea we're trying, what if there was fog in Silent Hill.
[1:25:49] Speaker 2: One of the big things with this game they were
[1:25:50] Speaker 2: talking about, and one of the reasons they said in
[1:25:51] Speaker 2: Japan was that they they wanted to go back to
[1:25:54] Speaker 2: like traditional Japanese horror, and they felt like with subsequent
[1:25:57] Speaker 2: entries over the years, they felt like every time on
[1:26:00] Speaker 2: Hill since the first one lost a bit of that
[1:26:02] Speaker 2: because it's said in you know, Western in America. So
[1:26:07] Speaker 2: they were like one of the big things that sort
[1:26:08] Speaker 2: of defines Japanese whore is like like basically like grotesque beauty,
[1:26:14] Speaker 2: where like it's a terrifying looking place, but there's also
[1:26:17] Speaker 2: something like beautiful about it. Of like like and Silent
[1:26:20] Speaker 2: Hill I aff has that where like the weird kind
[1:26:21] Speaker 2: of red growth that takes over everything it like it
[1:26:25] Speaker 2: looks disgusting, but it looks kind of pretty because it
[1:26:27] Speaker 2: kind of looks like flower blossoms a bit so like
[1:26:29] Speaker 2: a lot of the especially like the bigger kind of
[1:26:31] Speaker 2: like boss zombies. They kind of look like these moving
[1:26:34] Speaker 2: like yeah, like evil flower things that are like gross,
[1:26:40] Speaker 2: but they're like covered in like red blossoms and you
[1:26:42] Speaker 2: kind of look at it like ill. But then also, huh,
[1:26:45] Speaker 2: you know that's a in a different context. This is
[1:26:48] Speaker 2: kind of like, I don't know, have pleasants the word
[1:26:50] Speaker 2: I want to use, but like I could be pretty,
[1:26:53] Speaker 2: you know, if it wasn't swinging like a giant blade
[1:26:55] Speaker 2: at me, I could appreciate this.
[1:26:57] Speaker 3: You also have the dynamic between the two character that
[1:27:00] Speaker 3: you mentioned earlier. It could be Silent Hill friend Zone.
[1:27:03] Speaker 3: You never know that, you know, it could be that.
[1:27:05] Speaker 2: True Si still friends we made along the way that
[1:27:09] Speaker 2: that one doesn't ring truepo No, okay, yeah it's not
[1:27:12] Speaker 2: friend zone.
[1:27:13] Speaker 3: I think it's just Silent Hill Fog. It's Silent Hill Fog. Yeah.
[1:27:17] Speaker 3: I like Forte, all right. I like when musical influence
[1:27:21] Speaker 3: arrives in video games. It makes me happy. I'm going
[1:27:24] Speaker 3: to pretend it's Forte.
[1:27:25] Speaker 2: I can't confirm the music I heard very good, but
[1:27:28] Speaker 2: you know you got composer, you know, long time confers
[1:27:31] Speaker 2: Akira Yamaoka on it.
[1:27:32] Speaker 1: Are we kind of getting like the post rock guitar
[1:27:34] Speaker 1: vibe of like Silent Hill two.
[1:27:36] Speaker 2: No, not really, it's a lot more a little bit
[1:27:40] Speaker 2: more traditional Japanese or like we were asking him, like,
[1:27:43] Speaker 2: you know, how he changed the sound design for this game.
[1:27:45] Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, I kind of have to rethink everywhere
[1:27:47] Speaker 2: everything one because of a time period and also that
[1:27:50] Speaker 2: it's just set in Japan proper at this time. So
[1:27:53] Speaker 2: he's kind of like, you know, I wanted something. I
[1:27:55] Speaker 2: want the game to sound distinctly Japanese in that way,
[1:27:58] Speaker 2: but also like that of vote the sixties era, which
[1:28:01] Speaker 2: you know, their sixties is a lot different than you
[1:28:03] Speaker 2: know what we think of it of the sixties.
[1:28:05] Speaker 3: In the US.
[1:28:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, fun fact, they also had a like in the room,
[1:28:09] Speaker 2: they had snacks that were specifically from the sixties, like
[1:28:14] Speaker 2: they that we could eat. They were like, Oh, we
[1:28:15] Speaker 2: want you to kind of like immerse yourself. So here's
[1:28:17] Speaker 2: all these like traditional like these were the snacks of
[1:28:19] Speaker 2: the era that still exist today that you can try.
[1:28:23] Speaker 2: So I tried a little bit of everything I was like, oh,
[1:28:25] Speaker 2: this is fun. They're like, yeah, you know, this is
[1:28:27] Speaker 2: what kids were eating back.
[1:28:27] Speaker 3: Then, you know, yeah, but it was the best one
[1:28:31] Speaker 3: was your favorite?
[1:28:32] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[1:28:32] Speaker 3: What what limited edition Oreo flavors did they have back
[1:28:36] Speaker 3: They had.
[1:28:36] Speaker 2: These little mini donuts that were pretty good. I got
[1:28:39] Speaker 2: like two it. Oh they were like sacks of like
[1:28:40] Speaker 2: little four mini donuts or kind.
[1:28:42] Speaker 1: Of like donuts are my favorite dessert by the way, Really,
[1:28:45] Speaker 1: I don't think I knew that.
[1:28:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, OK, I love donuts.
[1:28:47] Speaker 2: It's weird because you can't donut as a dessert, Like
[1:28:50] Speaker 2: you can't go to a restaurant and say, I have
[1:28:51] Speaker 2: like a doughnut at the end of this place.
[1:28:53] Speaker 3: I think if somebody told me like, name desserts, I
[1:28:57] Speaker 3: think I would get through a lot of foods before
[1:28:59] Speaker 3: I got to I.
[1:29:00] Speaker 1: Mean, you're in Austin, eric like voodoo doughnuts.
[1:29:05] Speaker 3: But that's that's a that's a breakfast item. Yeah, but
[1:29:10] Speaker 3: if you save them.
[1:29:11] Speaker 1: They're also growing up on the East Coast, we had
[1:29:15] Speaker 1: a lot of We had a Krispy Creams and you
[1:29:17] Speaker 1: could hit the late night drive through. You could one
[1:29:20] Speaker 1: twelve twelve am hitting the Krispy Kream.
[1:29:23] Speaker 3: It hits man's I mean, yeah, I guess the thing
[1:29:30] Speaker 3: about a Krispy Creame is it's really good for like
[1:29:33] Speaker 3: the three minutes after it comes out from the oven,
[1:29:36] Speaker 3: and then it turns into just sugar bread, like stale
[1:29:40] Speaker 3: sugar good.
[1:29:41] Speaker 2: I mean, you want it hot, but it's still good
[1:29:43] Speaker 2: when it's like.
[1:29:43] Speaker 1: You can make a little bread pudding, put a little
[1:29:45] Speaker 1: milk in there, put it on the south Back to
[1:29:47] Speaker 1: Life yourself.
[1:29:50] Speaker 3: Reconstituted doughnuts is my favorite dessert. You put on, put
[1:29:54] Speaker 3: on the bear attire, and now you're acting like Krmie
[1:29:57] Speaker 3: over here. Ye I constituted Krispy Kreme.
[1:30:04] Speaker 2: I'll also add one of the big things that was
[1:30:06] Speaker 2: revealed during our time here was that the game A
[1:30:09] Speaker 2: Silent Hill f has multiple endings, you know, in classic
[1:30:12] Speaker 2: Silent Hill fashion. I believe they said it's five total,
[1:30:15] Speaker 2: including the classic. Oh yeah, and you added to the
[1:30:20] Speaker 2: list Silent Hill five endings. Maybe it's five boroughs, who knows,
[1:30:25] Speaker 2: but also one of the boroughs it's also so one
[1:30:33] Speaker 2: of the endings is that they're doing the UFO ending again,
[1:30:36] Speaker 2: which is like a classic like silly sort of like
[1:30:40] Speaker 2: Silent Hill ending. But what's also interesting is that so
[1:30:44] Speaker 2: the first playthrough of this game, everyone gets the same ending.
[1:30:49] Speaker 2: It's not till you beat the game once that you
[1:30:51] Speaker 2: can then have the ability to get the other endings.
[1:30:54] Speaker 2: So basically where they they want you like they have.
[1:30:56] Speaker 2: They were telling a focused story the first time around,
[1:30:59] Speaker 2: but they're like after that, if you want to replay
[1:31:01] Speaker 2: the game, then all the things you do in terms
[1:31:04] Speaker 2: of like I don't know, I don't know what the
[1:31:08] Speaker 2: decisions are like. There was no choice driven dialogue or
[1:31:11] Speaker 2: anything like that, like if you played like Silent Hill
[1:31:13] Speaker 2: two for example. It was a lot more like what
[1:31:15] Speaker 2: determine how you got the different endings was sort of
[1:31:18] Speaker 2: like how you engaged with certain puzzles or when you
[1:31:22] Speaker 2: did certain things. I assume it's like that, so, but
[1:31:27] Speaker 2: it was hard for me to get a sense in
[1:31:29] Speaker 2: his first five hours of like things that I did
[1:31:31] Speaker 2: that I would think, like, oh, in the second play through,
[1:31:34] Speaker 2: maybe this was like a diverging point, you know what
[1:31:37] Speaker 2: I mean? But maybe the only thing I could think
[1:31:40] Speaker 2: of was there was one point where I went to
[1:31:42] Speaker 2: a location outside of the like the objective, and I
[1:31:47] Speaker 2: got like a little cutting that play that. Basically, the
[1:31:49] Speaker 2: characters were like, hey, you're not supposed to be here.
[1:31:51] Speaker 2: This isn't where we're going, And it was like a
[1:31:53] Speaker 2: little bespoke moment. I was like, Oh, could I have
[1:31:55] Speaker 2: not seen this if I didn't just go over here?
[1:31:57] Speaker 2: And I was talking to other people that are like, oh,
[1:31:58] Speaker 2: did you go to this place first before you went
[1:32:00] Speaker 2: to the other place? Like it was like it was
[1:32:02] Speaker 2: like the home of another of one of your friends
[1:32:04] Speaker 2: basically yeah, And they're like, yeah, I got that cut
[1:32:07] Speaker 2: scene too, But I'm trying to find someone that did
[1:32:10] Speaker 2: the objective first and then went back to that place,
[1:32:12] Speaker 2: and I didn't find anyone, But I'm wondering if that
[1:32:16] Speaker 2: could be a point, like having that interaction would maybe
[1:32:19] Speaker 2: play into one of the endings. But yeah, that's I
[1:32:22] Speaker 2: think that's a cool idea of the idea of like
[1:32:23] Speaker 2: I don't have to I'm one of those people that
[1:32:25] Speaker 2: like can sometimes feel a little not stressed. But when
[1:32:29] Speaker 2: you know that you're not gonna there isn't like one
[1:32:32] Speaker 2: true ending, you kind of wonder when you do get
[1:32:34] Speaker 2: your ending, like did I get shorted? Like is this
[1:32:38] Speaker 2: a bad ending, especially with Silent Hill, or like have
[1:32:41] Speaker 2: I missed anything that the game ends sooner than it
[1:32:44] Speaker 2: could have and I'm just not aware yet until I
[1:32:47] Speaker 2: see the other endings, you know what I mean. So
[1:32:48] Speaker 2: it kind of makes you one like second guess the
[1:32:50] Speaker 2: things that you do. They also made a point of
[1:32:53] Speaker 2: saying they don't describe the endings as good or bad,
[1:32:56] Speaker 2: like they're like, none of the endings are like that.
[1:32:58] Speaker 2: It's all up to interpretation what you make out of them.
[1:33:02] Speaker 2: So at least don't feel bad about like, oh man
[1:33:06] Speaker 2: and goes head it got chopped off because I got
[1:33:08] Speaker 2: the bad ending.
[1:33:09] Speaker 3: But it's not about the ending. It's about the silent
[1:33:12] Speaker 3: hill friends we made along the way. That's what That's
[1:33:16] Speaker 3: what I was saying.
[1:33:17] Speaker 2: You're on you're on board? Yeah, yeah, let us know

[1:33:43] Speaker 2: Do you think you have changes at the end? And
[1:33:46] Speaker 2: it just says I don't know?
[1:33:49] Speaker 3: Is actually the whole time? Yeah, I don't know?
