[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal holl.
[0:05] Speaker 2: That for me, I'm a man, I'm forty.
[0:08] Speaker 1: I've heard so many players say, well, I want to
[0:10] Speaker 1: be happy.
[0:10] Speaker 2: You want to be happy for Dake Edo State?
[0:13] Speaker 1: Is that whoo whoo?
[0:14] Speaker 2: And now Den and tie.
[0:18] Speaker 1: Dan Rubinstein, welcome back. It is week nine. Yes, if
[0:23] Speaker 1: you can believe that, my friend, welcome back.
[0:24] Speaker 2: How are you?
[0:25] Speaker 1: I'm terrific.
[0:27] Speaker 3: I've long said this that the very beginning moments of
[0:30] Speaker 3: week one are an incredible feeling. Right, college football is back.
[0:34] Speaker 3: You get that full Saturday slate, my number one full
[0:38] Speaker 3: weekend in terms of pure college football. It depends on
[0:41] Speaker 3: the matchups. We're a week shy, we're a week short,
[0:44] Speaker 3: it's week ten. But there is something building in me, Settle.
[0:49] Speaker 3: There is something building where I have this like crazy
[0:53] Speaker 3: anticipation for knowing a good amount about so many teams,
[0:57] Speaker 3: which I guess some listeners might suggest otherwise. Sure, but
[1:01] Speaker 3: knowing as much as I'm going to know about a
[1:03] Speaker 3: good number of teams heading into like that nine ten
[1:07] Speaker 3: weeks nine ten eleven part of the year where the
[1:10] Speaker 3: air is finally shifted.
[1:12] Speaker 1: Here it's a little bit chillier.
[1:14] Speaker 3: You're getting into some big heavyweight rivalry type matchups, not
[1:18] Speaker 3: the biggest, but you know, there is that scar tissue,
[1:21] Speaker 3: there is the emotion involved in a lot of these matchups.
[1:24] Speaker 3: I just think we're in the middle of such a
[1:26] Speaker 3: wonderful football jacuzzi and I just want to stay here
[1:30] Speaker 3: for like six months, if that's okay with you. I
[1:33] Speaker 3: love this time completely in agreement.
[1:35] Speaker 1: I love it. Welcome back, one and all. We're going
[1:39] Speaker 1: to talk through week nine. Go back and listen to
[1:42] Speaker 1: the Tuesday episode where we previewed some of the three
[1:46] Speaker 1: big games this week. I say some of the three
[1:50] Speaker 1: because that sounds awkward, because I didn't mean that, because
[1:53] Speaker 1: there are a bunch of games that we need to
[1:55] Speaker 1: talk about today. Yeah, and I'm excited to go through
[1:59] Speaker 1: them with you. Dan. Of course, with the Verbalerhood, we
[2:02] Speaker 1: would encourage everybody to head on out to verbalers dot
[2:05] Speaker 1: com and sign up for run the Board. We're gonna
[2:08] Speaker 1: give away a two hundred dollars gift card this week
[2:10] Speaker 1: to our friends over at home Field. Not a sponsor
[2:13] Speaker 1: could be get in on the action by going to
[2:16] Speaker 1: verballers dot com and signing up for any tier. We
[2:20] Speaker 1: will talk through some of the games that you will
[2:23] Speaker 1: be picking momentarily. Dan. On today's episode, of course, a
[2:27] Speaker 1: bunch of previews we're going to talk through. When you
[2:30] Speaker 1: can go out and be amongst the people, Dan, I
[2:32] Speaker 1: know you're going to be amongst the people.
[2:33] Speaker 2: We will I'm gonna be amongst the people.
[2:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get to that at some point. How are
[2:37] Speaker 1: you feeling, though, more broadly about this week from a
[2:41] Speaker 1: thematic standpoint.
[2:43] Speaker 2: Glad you asked. So.
[2:44] Speaker 3: As I was going through these matchups, I started noticing
[2:48] Speaker 3: something that I'm sure has happened other times of the season,
[2:51] Speaker 3: but I noticed something with some of these bigger matchups.
[2:54] Speaker 3: And the thing I noticed was there are a number
[2:57] Speaker 3: of teams on the road again, a second consecutive road
[3:03] Speaker 3: trip right that year, on the road last Saturday, fly home,
[3:06] Speaker 3: back out on the road, and as we're dealing with injuries,
[3:09] Speaker 3: as we're dealing with depth, that seems meaningful to me
[3:12] Speaker 3: that I have less confidence. We saw that with this
[3:16] Speaker 3: is a trigger warning for Nebraska fans. We saw with
[3:18] Speaker 3: Nebraska fans, right and that was a short week, but
[3:21] Speaker 3: they had gone to Maryland and a great comeback and
[3:23] Speaker 3: won that game against the Terps, flown home and immediately
[3:26] Speaker 3: back on the road for a Friday night game against Minnesota,
[3:29] Speaker 3: and I just think that's tough. Unless you are built
[3:32] Speaker 3: with a three deep that is just bulletproof, it's a
[3:35] Speaker 3: tough ask. And so when I looked at this week's
[3:37] Speaker 3: schedule and the following team's Baylor, TCU and Cincinnati Ole,
[3:42] Speaker 3: Miss Georgia, now Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky now Mississippi State, MISSOO
[3:47] Speaker 3: Auburn and now Vandy SMU Fumpson and now Wake Temple,
[3:51] Speaker 3: the surprise of the American should have beaten undefeated Navy
[3:55] Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, Charlotte and Tulsa. So I
[3:58] Speaker 3: have this as seat belt Saturday, a colon turbulence ahead.
[4:02] Speaker 1: I like this, Did you make that sound yourself? You
[4:07] Speaker 1: definitely make that sound your did You're like the teacher
[4:13] Speaker 1: and Charlie Brown. Yeah.
[4:15] Speaker 3: Well, I'm always wearing noise canceling headphones, so that's all
[4:17] Speaker 3: it sounds like to me as I'm watching whatever.
[4:20] Speaker 2: On my laptop or iPad or something.
[4:22] Speaker 1: So yeah, it is seat belt Saturday. I'm going to
[4:30] Speaker 1: try not to yell as much, Okay on this episode.
[4:35] Speaker 1: I've been told from the for ballerhood that I'm yelling more.
[4:38] Speaker 1: Maybe it's because I'm in my feels a little bit more.
[4:41] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[4:42] Speaker 1: Week nine I think brings out the best in all
[4:45] Speaker 1: of us. Hopefully it brings out the best in me.
[4:47] Speaker 1: As you are going to be away this coming Saturday
[4:52] Speaker 1: and I'm going to be doing the midnight stream alone.
[4:55] Speaker 1: Yeah you are, so, you could definitely make a strong
[4:58] Speaker 1: case for a solo Saturday. Of course, seat belts Saturday
[5:02] Speaker 1: is a little bit bigger. Actually buckle up your seat
[5:04] Speaker 1: belts because I don't know what the solo show is
[5:05] Speaker 1: going to sound like. But would welcome everybody support Dan.
[5:08] Speaker 1: If you want to call in on the rever bline
[5:10] Speaker 1: at eight five to five verbal three, I know some
[5:13] Speaker 1: people that can make sure that your voice message gets through.
[5:16] Speaker 2: I can't wait.
[5:18] Speaker 1: We did cover the ole Miss Oklahoma game as well
[5:22] Speaker 1: as the BYU Iowa State game, as well as the
[5:25] Speaker 1: Texas A and m LSU games on the Tuesday episode.
[5:30] Speaker 1: We did a deep dive of all of them. There
[5:32] Speaker 1: are clips out there on the YouTube channel. If that's
[5:34] Speaker 1: all you care about, it doesn't matter, Okay, those are
[5:37] Speaker 1: the games that we talked about in I guess greater
[5:41] Speaker 1: detail on the Tuesday episode. I don't know if you
[5:45] Speaker 1: have had any one to eighty any about face since
[5:50] Speaker 1: we discussed those games on Tuesday. I have definitely been
[5:53] Speaker 1: wavering a little bit on which on some of my picks,
[5:57] Speaker 1: the LSU, Texas A and M gaming particular, because I'm
[6:01] Speaker 1: just terrified of Tiger Stadium at night. Yeah, and I
[6:05] Speaker 1: went in on Texas A and M. And you know,
[6:09] Speaker 1: I've also been on the sly kind of building this
[6:11] Speaker 1: little betting model that i'll talk about here. I need
[6:14] Speaker 1: something because the picks am in bad, So I've been
[6:17] Speaker 1: building this thing, and my model has been telling me
[6:20] Speaker 1: that some of the picks that I made early are
[6:24] Speaker 1: the wrong ones. So I guess this will be an
[6:27] Speaker 1: interesting test for it. But yeah, LSU at Night at
[6:31] Speaker 1: Home to me is interesting. I feel good about the
[6:34] Speaker 1: BYU pick, even though I think we disagreed on that one,
[6:37] Speaker 1: and I still feel pretty good about the old Miss
[6:40] Speaker 1: Oklahoma pick. But the A and M one, I'm definitely
[6:44] Speaker 1: having a little bit of second thoughts.
[6:46] Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'm quadrupling down. I like Texas A and
[6:49] Speaker 3: M a lot more than I like where LSU is
[6:51] Speaker 3: at as a team as a program right now, I
[6:53] Speaker 3: think they're better coached. I think by and large they
[6:55] Speaker 3: perform better. I didn't love the A and M run
[6:58] Speaker 3: defense in that first half against Arkansas and defense overall,
[7:02] Speaker 3: but all the same LSU and that defense, which I'm
[7:06] Speaker 3: almost positive is really good at home as an underdog
[7:11] Speaker 3: in front of what should be a frenzied crowd in
[7:13] Speaker 3: a big emotional matchup. I'm just I'm gonna stick to
[7:17] Speaker 3: my guns here. I'm gonna stick to my line of thinking,
[7:20] Speaker 3: my credo, and I'm sticking with LSU and riding that
[7:24] Speaker 3: defense until Brian Kelly manages to break that as well.
[7:29] Speaker 1: Three point thirty ESPN. It is number fifteen Missouri. It
[7:35] Speaker 1: is number ten. Vanderbilt Vandy is a two and a
[7:37] Speaker 1: half point home favorite. We got messages from people out
[7:42] Speaker 1: on the YouTube saying, hey, I looked at the time
[7:45] Speaker 1: code of the Tuesday episode. I did not see any
[7:49] Speaker 1: mention of this game. That's because we're going to talk
[7:51] Speaker 1: about it today. We're gonna talk about right now, Okay, everybody,
[7:54] Speaker 1: and I feel like everybody, and I'm gonna yell, I
[7:57] Speaker 1: don't care.
[7:58] Speaker 2: It's okay.
[7:59] Speaker 1: It's really high right now, as they should be. As
[8:02] Speaker 1: they should be if you go through, if you look
[8:04] Speaker 1: at the results, of the verball Or poll. You got
[8:06] Speaker 1: some really interesting votes for Vandy that are coming in.
[8:09] Speaker 1: Pretty much everybody's got him in the top twelve at
[8:11] Speaker 1: this point, and I think rightfully, so continue absolutely, but
[8:16] Speaker 1: it is a spectrum for where people feel Vandy should
[8:20] Speaker 1: be within that top twelve. We've had some as high
[8:22] Speaker 1: as three, We've had others as low as twelve. I
[8:25] Speaker 1: don't think we had anybody left him out of the
[8:27] Speaker 1: top twelve. But there are a lot of folks that
[8:30] Speaker 1: I think are really feeling Bandy right now. And I
[8:32] Speaker 1: get it. We both picked in the cover last week.
[8:34] Speaker 1: They won outright. I thought they looked really good. I
[8:39] Speaker 1: love this team, I love this story. I think most
[8:42] Speaker 1: people listening right now feel the same. Okay, so I
[8:46] Speaker 1: think now is the right time. I think now is
[8:50] Speaker 1: the right time to say hello to the bad guy Dan.
[8:53] Speaker 2: Okay.
[8:54] Speaker 1: Hell, So, I had an evil laugh sound that I
[8:59] Speaker 1: apparently didn't pulled down onto this computer that I was
[9:01] Speaker 1: going to play right here.
[9:07] Speaker 3: That's pretty good, right, that approximates evil?
[9:10] Speaker 1: I think it is. Yeah, it's all white as evil
[9:12] Speaker 1: as the laugh that I pulled off YouTube. But it's good.
[9:15] Speaker 1: Give me it one more time, please, If I can
[9:21] Speaker 1: establish my reputation as sort of like an edgy bad guy.
[9:25] Speaker 1: What would that do for the show?
[9:28] Speaker 3: I think a lot of people would have a very
[9:30] Speaker 3: difficult time believing that you have a drop of evil
[9:33] Speaker 3: in your body?
[9:35] Speaker 1: Has Vandy played a real offense other than Alabama? I mean,
[9:39] Speaker 1: Alabama's is almost as real as it gets. Right, Other
[9:42] Speaker 1: than Alabama? They lost by two scores. Have they played
[9:46] Speaker 1: a real offense other than Alabama?
[9:49] Speaker 3: I'm looking right now, I'll wait, I can wait. Okay,
[9:53] Speaker 3: Virginia Tech has struggled, South Carolina has struggled, Georgia State
[9:57] Speaker 3: has struggled. Ut hold on, let me look at the
[10:02] Speaker 3: official number. But I feel like they've been scoring points,
[10:04] Speaker 3: albeit you know, not the craziest schedule you TUTA status
[10:08] Speaker 3: is around top forty in terms of points per drive.
[10:11] Speaker 2: Okay, I think they scored a little bit against Vandy, Right.
[10:13] Speaker 1: Keep going, got wait? I can I got nothing but time?
[10:16] Speaker 3: Okay, Well, no, we're not going to do a two
[10:17] Speaker 3: hour episode and then LSU if we're leaving Bama aside? Okay,
[10:22] Speaker 3: So Bama by far the best, Utah State likely the
[10:26] Speaker 3: second best in terms of actual production. LSU has struggled
[10:29] Speaker 3: to score more than lowish twenties.
[10:33] Speaker 1: Just to refresh, Yeah, the memories of the reballer hood.
[10:38] Speaker 1: Vandy lost that game on the road at Alabama by
[10:42] Speaker 1: sixteen points. It really wasn't that close. It was competitive
[10:45] Speaker 1: for a chunk. I would say, I'm on Miszoo here dog, Okay,
[10:51] Speaker 1: I'm on Missouri. I think they're good enough on offense
[10:53] Speaker 1: to pound the ball on the ground. I think they're
[10:55] Speaker 1: good enough on defense to not get paviaed. Yeah, because
[11:00] Speaker 1: I was looking through some of the stats on the
[11:02] Speaker 1: Missouri side, Missouri has played three quarterbacks that I view
[11:07] Speaker 1: at least as really talented scramblers, good runners of the
[11:12] Speaker 1: football at the quarterback position, Jalen Daniels, Lenoras Sellers and
[11:16] Speaker 1: Jackson Arnold. If you add up all of their rushing yardage,
[11:22] Speaker 1: how many rushing yards do you think combined those quarterbacks
[11:26] Speaker 1: have had on the ground against Missouri. Probably not many
[11:30] Speaker 1: judging by your tone. Eleven it's pretty great three quarterbacks
[11:35] Speaker 1: eleven yards. Do you know how many times those three
[11:38] Speaker 1: quarterbacks were sacked by Missouri?
[11:42] Speaker 3: So is your number incorporating sack yardage or is this
[11:46] Speaker 3: independent of sack yardage?
[11:48] Speaker 1: The number one was incorporating sackyard.
[11:49] Speaker 3: Okay, besides, I don't know eight or nine times total, Well,
[11:54] Speaker 3: damn eleven yards, twelve sacks. Gimme Miszoo twenty eight to
[11:59] Speaker 3: seven teen is the final. They are not getting paviaed.
[12:02] Speaker 3: They are going to get a big win here on
[12:04] Speaker 3: the road, despite the fact that they're a dog. Okay,
[12:08] Speaker 3: I mean you're highlighting the defense now of Miszoo because
[12:11] Speaker 3: the offense of Vanderbilt has been incredible and I actually
[12:16] Speaker 3: this is I have a triple nugget here, a analytics nugget. Sure,
[12:22] Speaker 3: Vanderbilt is one of the most improved offenses in America
[12:25] Speaker 3: right now, all right, I can turn off the robot,
[12:26] Speaker 3: the analytics robot. Vandy this season has been outstanding. And
[12:31] Speaker 3: it's not like they were bad last year on offense,
[12:34] Speaker 3: but they've improved to such a crazy degree. Their downset
[12:38] Speaker 3: conversion rate in terms of like how often are they
[12:41] Speaker 3: generating a new set of downs is incredible. Their rushing
[12:45] Speaker 3: attack has been so much better. They went from like
[12:48] Speaker 3: one oh three to like number one in terms of
[12:50] Speaker 3: expected points added per attempt. They've been great. They overhauled
[12:55] Speaker 3: their offensive line. They sort of flipped their left tackle
[12:58] Speaker 3: and right tackle and right guard and left guard, depending
[13:00] Speaker 3: on the strong weak side. It's a very old school thing.
[13:02] Speaker 3: I was texting with our fuddy Jeff Schwartz about it
[13:04] Speaker 3: and what Vandy does. They just have some ass kickers
[13:07] Speaker 3: up front. So I'm not saying Miszoo can't overwhelm Vandy upfront.
[13:11] Speaker 3: I'm just saying, you look at that tape against LSU
[13:14] Speaker 3: and Vanderbilt was just mashing on the ground against a
[13:17] Speaker 3: good LSU front. So I'm going with Vandy here because
[13:22] Speaker 3: I think you evaluate. I'm gonna get personal here, Ty,
[13:25] Speaker 3: I've mentioned this recently. I think you evaluate too often
[13:28] Speaker 3: in a vacuum that you're saying this is what Miszoo
[13:31] Speaker 3: is and can be and who they are. And so
[13:34] Speaker 3: I think they're going to do this even though they
[13:36] Speaker 3: just took two overtimes to score twenty two points or
[13:39] Speaker 3: something against Auburn last week on the road in a
[13:42] Speaker 3: big emotional win, and now go to Vanderbilt another road
[13:47] Speaker 3: test for them, And so I'm not falling for this.
[13:51] Speaker 3: Let's think of a Tyson vacuums, Dyson vacuums. Tie, Ty,
[13:55] Speaker 3: don't it's almost too close. Yeah, I'm not falling for
[13:58] Speaker 3: your your your trickery here, Ty, I'm going Vandy to
[14:01] Speaker 3: cover and win against a very good Missou team. I
[14:05] Speaker 3: just think again, situationally, Vandy's riding high and maybe there's
[14:08] Speaker 3: a letdown spot. You know, one of the biggest wins
[14:10] Speaker 3: ever at home against LSU. I just think Vandy is
[14:14] Speaker 3: built to beat this team. And I don't trust Bo
[14:17] Speaker 3: Brabulah on the road here. He did struggle last week
[14:21] Speaker 3: against Auburn with some turnover stuff and wasn't big downfield.
[14:24] Speaker 3: I have Vandy here twenty seven to twenty three.
[14:28] Speaker 1: Either way, it looks like a really good matchup in
[14:30] Speaker 1: the trenches. You know, to your point about what Vanderbilt's
[14:34] Speaker 1: done along the offensive line, and I think, to my point,
[14:37] Speaker 1: what I'm getting at is what Missouri has done along
[14:40] Speaker 1: the defensive line. That matchup is going to decide this game.
[14:44] Speaker 1: I think we can agree on that for sure. It's
[14:46] Speaker 1: just a matter of, you know, can Vanderbilt get Diego
[14:49] Speaker 1: Pavia going? He is clearly the catalyst, the engine for
[14:53] Speaker 1: this offense. And if they can't, if Miszoo can do
[14:57] Speaker 1: to Pavia what they have done to some other quarterbacks
[14:59] Speaker 1: who are and who can be used in that capacity,
[15:03] Speaker 1: then I think it favors them. If Vanderbilt can continue
[15:07] Speaker 1: doing what they've done on the ground with their line,
[15:10] Speaker 1: get Pavia into positions where he can make plays, they're
[15:12] Speaker 1: gonna win the game. So it should be a great game.
[15:15] Speaker 1: It's a fascinating matchup, and not just because it's a
[15:18] Speaker 1: Vanderbilt team that is now in the top ten. I
[15:21] Speaker 1: think there are some real interesting matchups here, positional matchups
[15:26] Speaker 1: on the field that make this one pretty cool. So
[15:27] Speaker 1: I'm excited. I'm excited to see it's a three point
[15:29] Speaker 1: thirty again on ESPN. My sense is that we're gonna
[15:33] Speaker 1: have a bunch of folks out there who have hot
[15:35] Speaker 1: takes on this one because Vandy's involved. And again Vandy
[15:38] Speaker 1: is like this, darling, right now, let's say hello to
[15:41] Speaker 1: the bad guy. Dan, give me that sound one more time.
[15:50] Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough.
[15:51] Speaker 1: I like doing that voice. It's pretty good.
[15:53] Speaker 3: You get into a little bit of the I'm trying
[15:56] Speaker 3: to remember the name of the guy who did all
[15:57] Speaker 3: the old trailers, the trailer voiceover, Yeah, yeah, Don la Fonte,
[16:02] Speaker 3: And there it is.
[16:02] Speaker 2: I have to google real quick.
[16:03] Speaker 1: I can do a bane voice or I'm burn I
[16:06] Speaker 1: can do that. I'm getting better.
[16:07] Speaker 3: It's too muppety. It's too muppety to muppety. Yeah, you do.
[16:11] Speaker 3: Like if there were a Batman Muppet movie, which, by
[16:14] Speaker 3: the way, would watch, Yeah, would see in the theaters.
[16:17] Speaker 1: Would the boys watch that? They would watch that?
[16:19] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[16:20] Speaker 3: I don't think they have a Muppet or Batman reference
[16:22] Speaker 3: point yet. They're still kind of young, but I would
[16:24] Speaker 3: take them. Sure, you just did, like I'm burn burn Nope,
[16:28] Speaker 3: just not not there yet, not there. Keep keep work shopping. Okay,
[16:34] Speaker 3: next game, we got a bunch of games. Are gonna
[16:36] Speaker 3: go rapid fire through a bunch of these. Okay, Okay,
[16:38] Speaker 3: high new in ESPN two. This is a big one
[16:40] Speaker 3: on the G six level. This is number eighteen South Florida.
[16:45] Speaker 3: This is unranked Memphis. South Florida is a five point
[16:49] Speaker 3: road favorite.
[16:50] Speaker 1: I think Memphis was so busy thinking about this game,
[16:53] Speaker 1: too busy thinking about winning the American maybe making the playoff.
[16:57] Speaker 1: It says here they lost to U A B. And
[17:00] Speaker 1: we confirm this, Dan, Yeah, watched all of it actually
[17:03] Speaker 1: on Monday. Like there are bad losses and then there
[17:05] Speaker 1: are losses to a UAB team that just fired its coach. Yes,
[17:09] Speaker 1: Bill Connolly, our friend grades uab's defense as the one
[17:13] Speaker 1: hundred and thirty fourth best in the land, and that's
[17:16] Speaker 1: after last week. So it is a very bad defense.
[17:20] Speaker 1: This is a very bad loss for Memphis. Clearly, you
[17:23] Speaker 1: know where I stand on USF. At this point, I
[17:26] Speaker 1: am all in. I push my chips all in on USF.
[17:30] Speaker 1: I am officially committed to the Birom asylum.
[17:34] Speaker 2: The Byram asylum. I like that. That's a good job, right,
[17:38] Speaker 2: that's good.
[17:39] Speaker 1: Where are you at on this game?
[17:41] Speaker 3: I actually really like USF as well. I was impressed
[17:44] Speaker 3: with their road tests. This scares me now. I was
[17:46] Speaker 3: impressed with their road test against North Texas in arguably
[17:49] Speaker 3: the biggest North Texas home game of the modern era,
[17:52] Speaker 3: and the second half where they just poured it on.
[17:54] Speaker 3: It was a slower start for USF there in I
[17:56] Speaker 3: think Denton Texas. The thing that's concerning to me about Memphis,
[17:59] Speaker 3: and it's not necessarily the UAB result, because they absolutely
[18:02] Speaker 3: had the opportunity to win that game. At the end,
[18:04] Speaker 3: they weren't demonstrably worse than a terrible team in UAB.
[18:08] Speaker 3: But it's that they haven't really played anybody that would
[18:13] Speaker 3: prove something about Memphis in this moment, and they played Arkansas.
[18:17] Speaker 3: They beat Arkansas, that is a worthwhile thing, but they
[18:20] Speaker 3: haven't really played a defense that has tested the Memphis offense.
[18:24] Speaker 3: Even if Arkansas is the best team that they've played
[18:25] Speaker 3: and they won, the Arkansas defense has been largely terrible
[18:29] Speaker 3: this year. And I have come away in the limited
[18:32] Speaker 3: time I've watched Memphis and looked at Memphis numbers saying
[18:35] Speaker 3: to myself, Okay, if they're legitimately good their numbers, their
[18:38] Speaker 3: performances would look a lot more legit would be a
[18:42] Speaker 3: lot more impressive against this schedule. And now they're taking that, well,
[18:47] Speaker 3: they're staying at home, but they're taking that in a
[18:49] Speaker 3: game against USF. I just think USF is more tested,
[18:53] Speaker 3: They're more prepared for this moment. I think they have
[18:55] Speaker 3: the best collection of offensive skill in this game. So
[18:59] Speaker 3: I have shootout in mind here, but I think there
[19:02] Speaker 3: are just more ways for USF to win. And I
[19:04] Speaker 3: like their defense a little bit, but I think it's
[19:06] Speaker 3: been tested more So I have UYS have winning this
[19:09] Speaker 3: game forty one to thirty three.
[19:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's right. I think there are gonna
[19:14] Speaker 1: be a lot of points. Yeah, I do. So what
[19:16] Speaker 1: you're saying is that you're gonna strap on the street
[19:19] Speaker 1: jacket and join me in the byrom asylum.
[19:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm right there with you. Yep, padded walls and all.
[19:25] Speaker 1: I stand by what I said at the beginning of
[19:27] Speaker 1: the year. I think they're winning the American. I think
[19:31] Speaker 1: you are one hundred percent right. Yes, this is a
[19:33] Speaker 1: shootout with a lot of points. I am taking USF
[19:37] Speaker 1: minus five. Okay, same, we agree with five e's if
[19:42] Speaker 1: you care about Group of six football. By the way,
[19:47] Speaker 1: there's football. Memphis is gonna be fun as hell the
[19:51] Speaker 1: rest of the year. How do they play a bunch
[19:53] Speaker 1: of teams that are in the running for the American.
[19:55] Speaker 1: They've got USF this week, They've got too Lane on
[19:58] Speaker 1: the schedule. They still got Navy on the schedule. Navy
[20:01] Speaker 1: is having a great season so far. Memphis is going
[20:05] Speaker 1: to be right there, a very gumpy schedule where they're
[20:08] Speaker 1: just gonna be kind of everywhere, and they're definitely gonna
[20:11] Speaker 1: have a lot to say about who wins this conference,
[20:15] Speaker 1: maybe who makes the playoff, even if they don't, so Memphis.
[20:19] Speaker 1: Keep your eye on Memphis, even if you don't like
[20:22] Speaker 1: them to win this game or any of those games,
[20:23] Speaker 1: They're definitely going to be in close proximity to relevance
[20:29] Speaker 1: at a minimum. Dude.
[20:30] Speaker 3: By the way, just however it worked out with the
[20:32] Speaker 3: American in November. It's just banger after banger after bank.
[20:35] Speaker 1: It really is.
[20:36] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great November to watch American football. And
[20:40] Speaker 3: it's like Navy is the big highlight, which I guess
[20:42] Speaker 3: makes sense given that's called the American North Texas on
[20:44] Speaker 3: the road, Notre Dame on the Road, USF A bye,
[20:47] Speaker 3: and then at Memphis. Yep, there's just I don't know,
[20:50] Speaker 3: it's must watch twelve.
[20:52] Speaker 1: O'clock on TNT. Kansas State at Kansas Dan.
[20:56] Speaker 3: Big rivalry here, Kansas State at Kansas Sunshine.
[21:00] Speaker 1: Some flower showed out seuse me? Yeah, yeah, Kansas is
[21:04] Speaker 1: favored by a field goal. I sat down for about
[21:07] Speaker 1: a half hour last night and I was trying to
[21:09] Speaker 1: figure out what the hell's going on with the k
[21:11] Speaker 1: State because the stat profile is wild. It is wild.
[21:15] Speaker 1: It is all over the map, and I've seen other
[21:18] Speaker 1: teams like this. We've been doing this a long time.
[21:21] Speaker 1: They're certainly not unique in that aspect, but it's just
[21:25] Speaker 1: all over the place. A They've been really inefficient on
[21:29] Speaker 1: offense in part because they've had like no pop on
[21:32] Speaker 1: the ground. B they've given up a ton of big
[21:35] Speaker 1: plays and like some combination of that has really harmed them.
[21:41] Speaker 1: I think the point spreads about right three points in
[21:44] Speaker 1: favorite Kansas at home. I think I trust Kansas more
[21:48] Speaker 1: here because there's really no reason to trust Case State.
[21:52] Speaker 1: I've got something like twenty seven to twenty one Kansas
[21:54] Speaker 1: win in this one at home.
[21:56] Speaker 3: I have Kansas as well. I think it's higher scoring.
[21:58] Speaker 3: I think it's like thirty eight thirty four or something
[22:01] Speaker 3: like that. This, by the way, is a JB Long
[22:03] Speaker 3: Mike Golick junior game. Okay, cool, cool. I think good
[22:07] Speaker 3: excitable announcers in this one for a good excitable game,
[22:10] Speaker 3: this one should be good entertainment. I'm with you. I
[22:13] Speaker 3: like Kansas here. Kansas State on the road hasn't done
[22:15] Speaker 3: much for me. This is Kansas coming off of a
[22:17] Speaker 3: bye at home in the fresh, overhauled stadium. I like
[22:22] Speaker 3: the Jayhawks pop on offense. I don't love their defense.
[22:25] Speaker 3: But I just there's something about Kansas State week to
[22:27] Speaker 3: week that I'm just I mean, you've used this word
[22:29] Speaker 3: week and we get week out. I just I'm not there.
[22:32] Speaker 3: Trust wise with them, I know they're still beat up.
[22:34] Speaker 3: Everybody's beat up at this point, and Kansas State is
[22:37] Speaker 3: also coming up off of coming off of a bye.
[22:39] Speaker 3: The TCU win was really nice, but I just you know,
[22:43] Speaker 3: the loss in Arizona earlier, the way they lost at Baylor.
[22:46] Speaker 3: I just think if it's close and emotional in a rivalry,
[22:49] Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with the home team late. So yeah,
[22:51] Speaker 3: I'm going Jayhawks here, as the wise profit.
[22:53] Speaker 1: Says true, Yeah, we both trust Kansas a little bit more.
[23:00] Speaker 1: Number four Alabama on the road at South Carolina. Alabama
[23:05] Speaker 1: is a twelve point road favorite. Dan Rubistein you may
[23:09] Speaker 1: recall South Carolina made a switch at offensive line coach.
[23:14] Speaker 1: I believe before a last game against Oklahoma, they gave
[23:17] Speaker 1: up six sacks. Fans of this team have to be irate.
[23:23] Speaker 1: I don't see any way around it. You've got Lenora Sellers,
[23:26] Speaker 1: a generational, perhaps first round quarterback talent. They can't block
[23:32] Speaker 1: for them. They cannot block for him. There is definitely
[23:35] Speaker 1: a bit of this that feels like they are wasting
[23:38] Speaker 1: his talent on this team.
[23:39] Speaker 3: It kind of feels like in Alabama minus anything, I
[23:42] Speaker 3: do hesitate a little bit just because of the spot
[23:45] Speaker 3: there and coming off of a big win against Tennessee
[23:48] Speaker 3: in a rivalry spot last week, and then you go
[23:51] Speaker 3: going on the road and it's a good quarterback at
[23:53] Speaker 3: South Carolina. But when you watch his game Cock team,
[23:56] Speaker 3: you think you just feel bad for him. You feel
[23:57] Speaker 3: bad for Lenora Sellers that you can't just take a
[24:00] Speaker 3: drop back and step into a pocket and find a receiver.
[24:03] Speaker 3: I don't love their receivers. The defense in South Carolina
[24:07] Speaker 3: is not bad. It's a decent enough defense. It's a
[24:10] Speaker 3: defense good enough to win SEC games and a defense
[24:14] Speaker 3: good enough to be half of a bowl team coming
[24:16] Speaker 3: out of the SEC. But the offense is just such
[24:20] Speaker 3: a nightmare. The offensive line is such an like there's
[24:23] Speaker 3: just there's nothing to be done here. The adjustments haven't
[24:25] Speaker 3: been there, and so I'm going bam my minus anything.
[24:29] Speaker 3: By the way, I did check because for some reason
[24:32] Speaker 3: I remembered, you know, when we do our preview shows
[24:34] Speaker 3: in August, we're going to be wrong about so much.
[24:37] Speaker 3: We're going to be wrong for yourself. So many team
[24:39] Speaker 3: speak for yourself. But I remember the South Carolina fan
[24:43] Speaker 3: base being a gast that we had serious questions about
[24:47] Speaker 3: South Carolina this season. They were like, I don't know, man,
[24:50] Speaker 3: they lost a lot couple yeah, and it was I
[24:53] Speaker 3: just went back and looked at it, and again, I
[24:54] Speaker 3: am no different if somebody says something bad about my
[24:57] Speaker 3: team in any sport, I'm like, you don't know what
[24:59] Speaker 3: you're talking about.
[25:00] Speaker 2: You're not paying.
[25:01] Speaker 1: Attention to the details here.
[25:03] Speaker 3: But there was a lot of like this offense has
[25:06] Speaker 3: a lot more electric playmakers than you realize.
[25:08] Speaker 1: There's so much.
[25:09] Speaker 3: They're so stacked on offense in a way that you
[25:11] Speaker 3: can't comprehend anything less than ten and two is insane.
[25:15] Speaker 3: Likes comments like that, And I look back and I
[25:17] Speaker 3: was like, you know what, God bless. I love the emotion.
[25:20] Speaker 3: I love the spirit, but I didn't understand it then.
[25:23] Speaker 3: But I was open to it. And it has not
[25:25] Speaker 3: worked out. So I hope they can get it figured out,
[25:28] Speaker 3: because I like people talk about like big programs like
[25:32] Speaker 3: oh with college football.
[25:33] Speaker 2: Is better when Nebraska's good, when Florida's good.
[25:35] Speaker 3: I don't know. I love South Carolina. I want South
[25:37] Speaker 3: Carolina to be good. That stadium rocket, I always say
[25:40] Speaker 3: it on this show, the electricity of Williams Price, That's
[25:43] Speaker 3: what I want out of my college football South Carolina
[25:45] Speaker 3: doing weird stuff every week.
[25:47] Speaker 1: Are you familiar with the movie Independence Day? No?
[25:50] Speaker 2: Go on, Nope.
[25:52] Speaker 1: There is a scene in Independence Day towards the end
[25:54] Speaker 1: when like the aliens come down and Will Smith and
[25:58] Speaker 1: Harry Connick Junior of like flying through the Grand Canyon
[26:01] Speaker 1: or wherever you remember that you know what it' see
[26:03] Speaker 1: I'm talking about, of course, And there's a moment where
[26:07] Speaker 1: on the radio, Harry Connick Junior says to Will Smith,
[26:12] Speaker 1: I'm going to try something here, yeah, and Will Smith
[26:15] Speaker 1: says harrtt no, No, you can't bank at that speed. And
[26:19] Speaker 1: then he tries it and he gets blown up by
[26:20] Speaker 1: the aliens because he captain Jimmy Wilder. Yeah, I should
[26:23] Speaker 1: have pulled the sound, but this just came to me
[26:25] Speaker 1: as we're talking through here. Yeah, I'm going to try
[26:30] Speaker 1: something here, Dan, Okay, do it. We've heard a lot
[26:34] Speaker 1: about Lenora Sellers, Yeah we have.
[26:37] Speaker 3: And look they were augusta wind away from winning this
[26:40] Speaker 3: game last year in Tuscaloosa.
[26:41] Speaker 1: Have we seen him truly take a game over yet
[26:44] Speaker 1: this season? No?
[26:46] Speaker 2: But has not had you know, the opportunity.
[26:49] Speaker 1: BAMA does not create a ton of pressure. Bamma does
[26:53] Speaker 1: not blitz in order to try and force the issue
[26:57] Speaker 1: with creating pressure right a lot of zone. In fact,
[27:01] Speaker 1: about eighty percent of the time they're playing zone. Good
[27:04] Speaker 1: to know they played one quarterback remotely similar to Leonora's
[27:08] Speaker 1: Sellers back in Week one, and he had them on
[27:11] Speaker 1: skates and they lost Tommy Castellanos.
[27:13] Speaker 3: I mean, Diego Pavia can move, man, even Gunnar Stockton
[27:17] Speaker 3: can move, bo Purbula can move.
[27:19] Speaker 1: Then more quarterbacks who can move than not. Leonora's Sellars
[27:24] Speaker 1: is cut from a different Oh he's different. I under
[27:26] Speaker 1: I get that, but it's different. Okay, you can compare
[27:29] Speaker 1: it to all those guys if you want to. Yes,
[27:30] Speaker 1: they can move.
[27:31] Speaker 3: This is not a bunch of like Drew Bledsoe's on
[27:33] Speaker 3: the schedule. No, No, they played one guy who I
[27:39] Speaker 3: think rises to this level of mobility. Okay, okay, sure,
[27:44] Speaker 3: and yes Pavia, they can put Pavi on the move,
[27:46] Speaker 3: But Leonoris is different, man, he is different. Pavi is
[27:50] Speaker 3: not getting drafted in the first round, final game of October,
[27:56] Speaker 3: biggest remaining home game for South Carolina, would.
[28:00] Speaker 1: You say to Facto National Championship.
[28:02] Speaker 3: Not at this point, I think people will be excited
[28:05] Speaker 3: for this game. But I think the reality of twenty
[28:08] Speaker 3: twenty five is set in on the South Carolina fan
[28:11] Speaker 3: base so that it's not just it's just not going
[28:13] Speaker 3: to be as hyped up place.
[28:14] Speaker 1: As it would be if they were pretty good. Has
[28:17] Speaker 1: Bama looked mortal away from Tuscaloosa.
[28:22] Speaker 2: This season?
[28:23] Speaker 3: Alabama away from Tuscaloosa has lost at Florida State. Beat
[28:28] Speaker 3: Georgia on the road, That's pretty difficult to do. Beat
[28:31] Speaker 3: Miszoo on the road, difficult to do, but very quick,
[28:34] Speaker 3: it's demolished. These are top fifteen teams, though, except for Florida.
[28:39] Speaker 1: State, there is one South Carolina game every year that
[28:41] Speaker 1: makes zero sense, and this is that game. South Carolina
[28:48] Speaker 1: is going to win this game outright, twenty six to
[28:50] Speaker 1: twenty four.
[28:52] Speaker 2: I love this from you.
[28:54] Speaker 1: Where's my sound the Yakus Dog of the week.
[29:04] Speaker 3: By the way, sidebar here, because we've just been talking
[29:06] Speaker 3: about Diego Pavia a bunch this episode so far. Diego
[29:10] Speaker 3: Pavia is going to be the most famous and legendary
[29:16] Speaker 3: Montreal Alouette of all time. I'm calling my shot right now.
[29:21] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[29:22] Speaker 1: If I were Lenora Sellers, I'd be offended that you
[29:26] Speaker 1: compared him to those other quarterbacks.
[29:29] Speaker 3: I'm sorry, successful mobile SEC quarterbacks.
[29:32] Speaker 1: Lenoris is different man. Norris might be the first overall pick.
[29:36] Speaker 2: That's fine, get out of here.
[29:39] Speaker 1: They are mobile. I get what you're saying, but I
[29:41] Speaker 1: just I think this guy's different, and I think there
[29:44] Speaker 1: is gonna be a game this year. This is gonna
[29:46] Speaker 1: be the win.
[29:46] Speaker 3: This guy's not mobile enough to win games in twenty
[29:48] Speaker 3: twenty five. Apparently he is going to put the team
[29:50] Speaker 3: on his back.
[29:51] Speaker 1: They're gonna win this game out right. This is going
[29:53] Speaker 1: to be a shocker of Week nine. And I'm gonna
[29:55] Speaker 1: have to talk about it without you because you're going
[29:56] Speaker 1: to a fall wedding.
[29:58] Speaker 3: Listen, you told me I need to all in and
[30:00] Speaker 3: do a reverb or I'm gonna send in a video
[30:02] Speaker 3: that you can play in the beginning of the episode.
[30:04] Speaker 3: And if Alabama went, what time is this game? Cack
[30:09] Speaker 3: three thirty Eastern times, so it'll be long over it
[30:11] Speaker 3: to night wedding. I will on video in my formal
[30:15] Speaker 3: war admit defeat.
[30:17] Speaker 1: Also at three thirty Big ten Network number twenty three.
[30:20] Speaker 1: Illinois on the road at Washington, Washington is favored by
[30:25] Speaker 1: four and a half points. I've been really high on
[30:29] Speaker 1: Washington this year and then I've been reading a lot
[30:32] Speaker 1: on social media of what Washington fans have to say
[30:35] Speaker 1: about Washington, and I've detected much frustration, at least among
[30:39] Speaker 1: the very online segment of Huskies fans. So I have
[30:44] Speaker 1: definitely taken a second look at the Huskies. I am
[30:48] Speaker 1: curious to get your thoughts on this game.
[30:50] Speaker 3: Dan, I would like Washington a lot more if part
[30:54] Speaker 3: of the Washington story this year and recently, if it
[30:58] Speaker 3: didn't include the amount of offensive line injuries that Washington
[31:02] Speaker 3: is trying to play through. And so I don't love
[31:05] Speaker 3: Illinois's defense. Illinois is down at least a couple of
[31:08] Speaker 3: key contributors on defense, including I think their best dB.
[31:11] Speaker 3: But I think there's just more on Washington that's known
[31:17] Speaker 3: in terms of how to corral this offense. We saw
[31:20] Speaker 3: last week the run game completely disappear, you know, Demon
[31:25] Speaker 3: Williams is a big part of that. Jonah Coleman is
[31:27] Speaker 3: the run game. Uh, and they weren't able to do
[31:29] Speaker 3: anything against Michigan's defense on the road. Illinois defense is
[31:32] Speaker 3: not Michigan's defense. But I just think the book on
[31:35] Speaker 3: Washington has more chapters in terms of how to play
[31:39] Speaker 3: the Huskies and so that their defense isn't anything special
[31:44] Speaker 3: and below average thus far, I generally think Mike. A
[31:48] Speaker 3: part of my rubric is if I think Washington's decent.
[31:51] Speaker 3: I think they're pretty good. And it's a distance to
[31:54] Speaker 3: travel for Illinois. It's golf a bye week for the
[31:57] Speaker 3: Alli and I, but it's a distance to travel. The
[32:00] Speaker 3: home field advantage of Washington, I think can be significant.
[32:04] Speaker 3: We saw Ohio State buy up like half of that stadium, though,
[32:07] Speaker 3: but I don't think Illinois is gonna travel in that
[32:09] Speaker 3: same way. I'm taking the Ali and I here, and
[32:15] Speaker 3: I don't love it. I think they're gonna be a
[32:17] Speaker 3: ton of points, is how I'm kind of coming down
[32:19] Speaker 3: in this game, like I think somebody's winning this game.
[32:21] Speaker 3: Thirty one, twenty seven, thirty five, thirty one somewhere in there.
[32:25] Speaker 3: I don't know what the total number is here in Vegas,
[32:29] Speaker 3: but I wouldn't hate taking the over in the in
[32:33] Speaker 3: this one.
[32:33] Speaker 1: So got it?
[32:34] Speaker 3: And to take Illinois for me, what's the number number? Okay,
[32:40] Speaker 3: I'll look it up. So what's your reasoning.
[32:43] Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be able to throw in Washington.
[32:47] Speaker 1: I think Luke Altmeyer's quietly had a great season. Yep,
[32:50] Speaker 1: I think he's gonna go off in this one. And
[32:53] Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying about the offensive line stuff
[32:55] Speaker 1: on Washington. I mean again, all you gotta do is
[32:59] Speaker 1: go online. You could read a lot the same stuff.
[33:01] Speaker 3: Oh, fifty four and a half, fifty five and a half,
[33:03] Speaker 3: fifty three and a half is somewhere in there.
[33:05] Speaker 1: I I go over thirty three twenty seven. I've got
[33:07] Speaker 1: Illinois winning this one with a lot of points.
[33:10] Speaker 3: Same a little a little damp by the way in
[33:12] Speaker 3: Seattle for this one. I did look that up, But
[33:14] Speaker 3: when is it not at this time?
[33:16] Speaker 1: Also at three thirty CBS, the Floyd of Rosedale game, Dan.
[33:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, Baby, A play for a pig Trophy.
[33:25] Speaker 1: Minnesota on the road at Iowa. Iowa is a nine
[33:29] Speaker 1: point favorite, nine points. So interestingly enough, these teams are
[33:37] Speaker 1: exact opposites when it comes to how they do against
[33:42] Speaker 1: the point spread. Iowa is seventy one point four percent
[33:46] Speaker 1: against the spread. Minnesota is twenty eight point six percent
[33:51] Speaker 1: against the spread.
[33:52] Speaker 2: Together, they're keeping it one hundred.
[33:54] Speaker 1: As a kid, say, but nine points, nine points is
[34:00] Speaker 1: nine points telling us that Vegas knows something that I
[34:03] Speaker 1: don't because that felt like a lot of points to
[34:06] Speaker 1: me when I first saw it, or does nine points
[34:08] Speaker 1: feel about right too?
[34:11] Speaker 3: It feels like a big number, which kind of I mean,
[34:13] Speaker 3: there's not crazy weather. They're both in like arguable letdown spots.
[34:17] Speaker 3: Iowa beating a sort of obviously hobbled Penn State by
[34:20] Speaker 3: a point at home, but beating Penn State, even if
[34:23] Speaker 3: it's not beating a top five Penn State, it's a
[34:25] Speaker 3: big deal to do in front of your home crowd.
[34:28] Speaker 3: And obviously Minnesota with there went against Nebraska last Friday
[34:32] Speaker 3: was a big deal, so arguable letdown spot for both
[34:35] Speaker 3: of these teams. It does seem like a big number.
[34:37] Speaker 3: One thing I did consider when looking at this is
[34:40] Speaker 3: Iowa was scoring points without a passing game.
[34:43] Speaker 1: No pass They're like Navy of the Midwest.
[34:46] Speaker 3: They're managing to score points and win field position and
[34:49] Speaker 3: give themselves short fields. They're doing really advantageous things week
[34:52] Speaker 3: to week. I think they beat where they beat Wisconsin
[34:54] Speaker 3: thirty seven to nothing, scored twenty five against Penn State,
[34:58] Speaker 3: which you know if you do that and dog gears,
[35:00] Speaker 3: it's seventy three points for Iowa in a matchup like
[35:04] Speaker 3: what Penn State's defense usually is.
[35:08] Speaker 2: PJ.
[35:09] Speaker 3: Fleck never wins this game, basically, I think they've lost
[35:13] Speaker 3: nine of ten or eleven of twelve or something. Iowa
[35:15] Speaker 3: just always wins this and so that's something I considered here.
[35:20] Speaker 3: I just if the line seems strange in one direction,
[35:24] Speaker 3: I'm going to lean in and I think Iowa wins
[35:26] Speaker 3: this by a couple touchdowns twenty eight thirteen something like that.
[35:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, a little model I've been working on as Iowa
[35:33] Speaker 1: minus seven. Okay, So to that end, I'm gonna go points.
[35:39] Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Minnesota plus the points. But this does
[35:42] Speaker 1: look like a slugfest to me where Iowa wins. What
[35:45] Speaker 1: time is kickoff? Three thirty? Okay, I've got it at
[35:49] Speaker 1: like seventeen thirteen, And I'm with you. The fact that
[35:53] Speaker 1: Iowa has now fully committed to the ground game I
[35:56] Speaker 1: think has made them better. Like they're not even trying
[35:59] Speaker 1: to hide, They're just gonna run. And Mark Ronowski as
[36:02] Speaker 1: a runner has been much better than when they tried
[36:05] Speaker 1: to make them a passer, which is tough when you're
[36:07] Speaker 1: a quarterback. But it's tough, but he's good at it,
[36:09] Speaker 1: you know. I Mean, that's part of why they brought
[36:11] Speaker 1: him over. That was part of the appeal. They're just
[36:13] Speaker 1: steering way more into that than they are his arm.
[36:17] Speaker 1: Minnesota was great last week. They killed Nebraska's line. I
[36:21] Speaker 1: just think it's a different matchup this week. It's a
[36:23] Speaker 1: different matchup this week. They're not going to have as
[36:26] Speaker 1: much success against Iowa as they did against Nebraska. I
[36:30] Speaker 1: will be rooting for my beautiful, beautiful Golden Gophers to
[36:33] Speaker 1: take back Floyd. Sure, but I'm I think iowall win
[36:39] Speaker 1: seventeen thirteen. Give me those points.
[36:41] Speaker 3: You just made the body blow sound unintentionally. Ooh ooh, yeah,
[36:46] Speaker 3: it's great. Yeah, I'm gonna give the points. Iowa is
[36:49] Speaker 3: just they're winning in very Iowa ways once again, and
[36:54] Speaker 3: I feel good about it at home. And I think
[36:56] Speaker 3: the Minnesota win was very nice against Nebraska. But I
[37:00] Speaker 3: think beating up on a team with no trench strength is,
[37:07] Speaker 3: you know, not the most impressed trench strength.
[37:09] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[37:09] Speaker 3: Their offensive line doesn't protect their quarterback all that often,
[37:12] Speaker 3: and they can't stop the run. So I don't know,
[37:15] Speaker 3: beating Nebraska's nice, but it's not beating a top twenty team.
[37:19] Speaker 1: Right now, four o'clock ESPN two Baylor at number twenty
[37:24] Speaker 1: one Cincinnati, Cincinnati favored by four and a half points.
[37:28] Speaker 1: Dan and I'm thinking a lot of points that feel
[37:35] Speaker 1: right to you, A lot of points it does. Yeah,
[37:38] Speaker 1: I've got this one at thirty seven thirty one Cincinnati,
[37:42] Speaker 1: and I graded this one out at about Cincinnati minus
[37:46] Speaker 1: six on the aforementioned model that may or may not
[37:50] Speaker 1: have any scientific quality two whatsoever. Yeah, neither team plays
[37:54] Speaker 1: past defense. The difference that I see is that Baylor
[37:57] Speaker 1: also doesn't play any defense. They don't stop the run
[38:00] Speaker 1: at all, and Cincinnati's been very good at that. So
[38:03] Speaker 1: I think Cincinnati is a better team. I think everybody
[38:05] Speaker 1: is sleeping on the Bearcats right now. I think they're
[38:07] Speaker 1: a pretty good squad, and I think this will give
[38:09] Speaker 1: them another opportunity to show it. But they're going to
[38:12] Speaker 1: need to score a lot of points. Because I think
[38:14] Speaker 1: Baylor's going to score a lot of points. This is
[38:16] Speaker 1: going to be a fun game in the middle of
[38:17] Speaker 1: the day.
[38:18] Speaker 3: I'm going to take the points here. I think Cincinnati
[38:20] Speaker 3: wins this game. The thing you have to remember with
[38:22] Speaker 3: Baylor is they are dead set on torturing their own
[38:24] Speaker 3: fans this season. They are absolutely dead set on torturing
[38:29] Speaker 3: their own fans. They neither win big nor lose big.
[38:32] Speaker 3: They were down I don't know seventeen twenty twenty one
[38:35] Speaker 3: points or something against TCU and came back made it
[38:37] Speaker 3: look closer than it actually was likely. They win close,
[38:40] Speaker 3: they lose close. They win in dumb ways, they lose
[38:43] Speaker 3: in dumb ways. And I think that trend continues here.
[38:46] Speaker 3: I think the defense will let them down to your point,
[38:48] Speaker 3: but I think it's going to be a nice back
[38:50] Speaker 3: and forth. Let's go thirty eight to thirty five.
[38:54] Speaker 1: Sincey I just jotted down for Tuesday's episode, we need
[38:58] Speaker 1: to do a bit on the most tortured fan bases
[39:01] Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. I think that'd be fun. If
[39:04] Speaker 1: you've got a suggestion, solid verbol adgmail dot com, let
[39:06] Speaker 1: us know. Will include you Baylor's in that conversation, Baylor Nebraska. Uh,
[39:14] Speaker 1: there's a point we'll think about Arkansas. Auburn, Oh my god, Auburn.
[39:18] Speaker 3: Well, yeah, Auburn continues in the acc this year tortured
[39:25] Speaker 3: fan base Tuesday saying I'm just I'm giving some considerations.
[39:29] Speaker 3: Florida State gave themselves a lot of hope after week won.
[39:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think they passed the point of torture.
[39:36] Speaker 1: Now I think the fan base is essentially dead for
[39:39] Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five season. But yeah, early going, Yeah
[39:43] Speaker 1: until people, by the way, I got what was going on.
[39:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, we've had some reversals too, so it's like seemed
[39:48] Speaker 3: tortured and now has hope the UCLA reverse that's unusual.
[39:54] Speaker 1: Cincinnati. Cincinnati lost to Nebraska in week one and this
[39:57] Speaker 1: since looked really good.
[39:58] Speaker 3: But there's I mean, so lost to UNLV in New
[40:01] Speaker 3: Mexico and Northwestern. Sure, uh yeah, that's a good Yeah,
[40:07] Speaker 3: submit your team, submit your application, be for your fan base.
[40:11] Speaker 1: Seven thirty NBC. It is Michigan number twenty five on
[40:15] Speaker 1: the road, a fourteen point favorite against little brother Dan
[40:20] Speaker 1: Michigan State. Not my words, my card's words.
[40:23] Speaker 2: That's true. It was a long time ago.
[40:25] Speaker 1: Fourteen points Is that too many in a rivalry? No?
[40:29] Speaker 3: Because this defense is that bad and this is a
[40:32] Speaker 3: game that Michigan is always going to want to win
[40:34] Speaker 3: by ninety three points.
[40:35] Speaker 1: Like, the question is what are you betting on? If
[40:37] Speaker 1: you side with Michigan State, what are you betting on
[40:40] Speaker 1: right now? Because Michigan's not perfect.
[40:43] Speaker 2: Right, it's any Lansing, Right, Yeah.
[40:45] Speaker 1: It's any sancing to me, though, this looks like the
[40:47] Speaker 1: kind of gamer. Michigan can just bully the crap out
[40:50] Speaker 1: of the Spartans. They can play bully ball for sixty minutes,
[40:54] Speaker 1: they can win comfortably, they can push them around because
[40:56] Speaker 1: Michigan State's defense has not gotten better, right, which is
[41:00] Speaker 1: a real problem, and that conversation is going to extend
[41:03] Speaker 1: probably beyond this season. But I just I don't know
[41:07] Speaker 1: what I'm betting on other than the rivalry aspect, Other
[41:10] Speaker 1: than the fact that this game has kind of been
[41:12] Speaker 1: weird in the past, I'm just not seeing it. I
[41:14] Speaker 1: gotta go Michigan minus whatever.
[41:17] Speaker 3: Okay, So Michigan with a couple of high profile games
[41:22] Speaker 3: in a row, Washington and then on the road at
[41:24] Speaker 3: USC the week before that. Michigan on the road this
[41:27] Speaker 3: season has lost to Oklahoma, gotten by Nebraska though there
[41:31] Speaker 3: was a late touchdown, there was a three point final win,
[41:33] Speaker 3: and then demolished essentially by USC, pushed around by USC
[41:38] Speaker 3: on the road that maybe there's something about Michigan on
[41:42] Speaker 3: the road. Admittedly, those three defenses are a step at
[41:46] Speaker 3: least ahead of Michigan State. I'm going to Michigan minus
[41:48] Speaker 3: anything here. So I have Michigan winning this thirty four
[41:53] Speaker 3: to thirteen covering. Okay, and didn't Michigan State just get
[42:00] Speaker 3: absolutely demolished by Indiana as well.
[42:03] Speaker 2: That's tough.
[42:04] Speaker 1: I think we're in agreement here. Nice go Michigan's go
[42:07] Speaker 1: under the radar games.
[42:08] Speaker 2: I got some good ones here, Okay.
[42:12] Speaker 1: I put these under the radar games on the document
[42:15] Speaker 1: because there's a reason to care. Might not be obvious,
[42:19] Speaker 1: but there's a reason to care. Maybe we've got a
[42:22] Speaker 1: I don't know, upset potential. Maybe there's another storyline that
[42:26] Speaker 1: needs to be surfaced here for the verballer hood. Maybe
[42:29] Speaker 1: it's a seatbelt Saturday game. Maybe it's a seatbelt Saturday
[42:32] Speaker 1: game high noon on the seedp SMU on the road
[42:37] Speaker 1: at Wake Forest. SMU is only a three and a
[42:41] Speaker 1: half point road favorite. Now SMU is unranked, but they
[42:45] Speaker 1: are five and two. They're at three and zero conference.
[42:49] Speaker 1: If all the projected favorites win out from here on
[42:52] Speaker 1: out in the ACC, which won't happen, I know. But
[42:56] Speaker 1: if it goes super Chalk, your ACC title game would
[43:00] Speaker 1: be Georgia Tech versus SMU. Yeah, but that said, Wake
[43:07] Speaker 1: Forest is a pain in the ass. They play whistle
[43:10] Speaker 1: to whistle, they're gonna fight him, and SMU's got Miami
[43:14] Speaker 1: on deck. So perhaps a little bit of a look
[43:16] Speaker 1: ahead spot here?
[43:17] Speaker 3: Let down look ahead? Who did SMU beat last week?
[43:21] Speaker 3: They beat Clemson? Did they not be Clemson?
[43:23] Speaker 1: Dan? Let down look ahead sandwich? Here? I will take
[43:27] Speaker 1: wake Forest plus the points. I don't know if they
[43:29] Speaker 1: went out right, but this to me feels like every
[43:33] Speaker 1: bit the reason why we came up with a let
[43:35] Speaker 1: down look ahead sandwich?
[43:36] Speaker 3: And so is it also not a seatbelt Saturday? Right Turby?
[43:39] Speaker 3: That game was at Clemson, so SMU was flying unless
[43:42] Speaker 3: they're hanging around the East coast, flying to South Carolina,
[43:46] Speaker 3: flying back to Dallas, flying now to Winston Salem.
[43:50] Speaker 2: Or wherever they're actually flying into a North Carolina.
[43:53] Speaker 3: Uh, wake Forest coming off of bye yes BLUs the points?
[43:58] Speaker 2: Strong defense?
[43:59] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[44:00] Speaker 3: Are they one of my nuggets? Oh my god, they
[44:02] Speaker 3: absolutely are. Wake Forest from one of the worst to
[44:06] Speaker 3: one of the best. Now, schedule is what it is,
[44:09] Speaker 3: but they're performing like a really strong defense or strong
[44:13] Speaker 3: defensive improvement team should be performing. They're way better in
[44:16] Speaker 3: forcing three and outs, they're great in the red zone.
[44:19] Speaker 3: They don't allow anything through the air. Again, the quarterback's
[44:21] Speaker 3: face is not incredible. They're getting a ton of pressure
[44:24] Speaker 3: thanks to two big edge transfers. I just I like
[44:29] Speaker 3: where Wake is at in this one. I'm gonna say
[44:32] Speaker 3: wake in and upset. This is again, this is part
[44:34] Speaker 3: of my credo. This is a good defense at home
[44:38] Speaker 3: as a home dog. I don't know if the environment's crazy,
[44:40] Speaker 3: but coming off of bye means something to me.
[44:43] Speaker 2: So I like Wake out right here. Twenty eight, twenty seven.
[44:47] Speaker 1: Also at high noon, ACC Network number sixteen, Virginia on
[44:54] Speaker 1: the road at North Carolina. The point spread is ten
[44:57] Speaker 1: and a half in favor of Virginia. I think there
[45:01] Speaker 1: is a chance that North Carolina gets absolutely crushed in
[45:07] Speaker 1: this game.
[45:08] Speaker 2: Do you think so?
[45:09] Speaker 1: Look of the week? They are terrible, Dan, I don't
[45:15] Speaker 1: think the fan base cares about this team. I don't
[45:19] Speaker 1: think the fan base cares about a game against Virginia.
[45:21] Speaker 1: Even though Virginia is very, very good, Virginia is not
[45:24] Speaker 1: a traditional power. I think Virginia is going to go
[45:27] Speaker 1: limb from limb and annihilate UNC in this game.
[45:33] Speaker 2: Gay's at North Carolina, right some what so? I mean,
[45:39] Speaker 2: so what.
[45:41] Speaker 1: North Carolinaginia and Tony Elliott and Chandler Morris are afraid
[45:45] Speaker 1: of a checkerboard end zone or an argyle end zone.
[45:48] Speaker 1: I don't think, so give me the hoo.
[45:50] Speaker 3: They likely Okay, so North Carolina likely because of a fumble.
[45:55] Speaker 3: They should have beaten Cal on the road last week.
[45:57] Speaker 2: Right, Okay, that would have.
[45:59] Speaker 3: Been a step forward, and Virginia likely should have lost
[46:02] Speaker 3: to Wazoo.
[46:03] Speaker 2: Right.
[46:03] Speaker 1: Obvious look ahead spot here with North Carolina.
[46:06] Speaker 3: Obvious look ahead spot with North Carolina. I don't love
[46:12] Speaker 3: your confidence here. I'm taking Virginia, but I don't love.
[46:15] Speaker 1: Your Virginia is going to maul North Carolina.
[46:18] Speaker 3: Okay, I don't, I don't. I would stay away from
[46:22] Speaker 3: this game completely, honestly.
[46:24] Speaker 1: Twall forty five sec network Auburn at Arkansas. Here we go, Yes,
[46:29] Speaker 1: here we go. A battle of one team that fired
[46:31] Speaker 1: their coach and another that probably will fire their coach.
[46:35] Speaker 1: Arkansas is one point home favorite. You have to think
[46:38] Speaker 1: that the stakes are pretty high for Hugh Freeze because
[46:41] Speaker 1: if he doesn't win this one, they're probably missing a
[46:43] Speaker 1: bowl and that would be really bad. Yeah, so I
[46:46] Speaker 1: think Hugh Freeze back to the wall. Give me Auburn.
[46:49] Speaker 2: I'm gonna take Arkansas.
[46:53] Speaker 3: Why, Okay, I don't like with Auburn the twenty twenty
[46:57] Speaker 3: five SEC season riding with all just brings sadness to
[47:01] Speaker 3: the Masks.
[47:02] Speaker 1: All right, listen, Yeah, do you agree with me when
[47:06] Speaker 1: I say that Auburn is good enough on the ground
[47:11] Speaker 1: to roll out the Notre Dame playbook against Arkansas?
[47:14] Speaker 2: I guess.
[47:15] Speaker 3: And those are two different teams though.
[47:17] Speaker 1: They're yeah, obviously, but I'm saying I think Auburn is
[47:21] Speaker 1: good enough on the ground that they can force the issue.
[47:24] Speaker 1: They can run the ball, they control the clock, they
[47:28] Speaker 1: can avoid getting into too much of a shootout, because
[47:30] Speaker 1: this one's got shootout written all over it. Sure, I
[47:33] Speaker 1: do like Auburn's defense. I think it's something like thirty
[47:37] Speaker 1: four twenty three Auburn wins.
[47:41] Speaker 3: So they're gonna score twice as many points as their
[47:44] Speaker 3: highest scoring SEC output this year against Arkansas.
[47:47] Speaker 1: I'm sorry, does Arkansas playinny defense? It doesn't matter.
[47:51] Speaker 3: They're gonna score more points than they They're gonna score
[47:53] Speaker 3: more than seventeen points. Yeah, No, I know, I'm agreeing
[47:58] Speaker 3: with you.
[47:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't think they're gonna double it up.
[48:00] Speaker 3: So Okay, I'm taking Arkansas to win this one in
[48:03] Speaker 3: a heartbreaker, heartbreak twenty seven to twenty four Hogs.
[48:06] Speaker 1: Bobby Patrino wants that job. Hugh Freeze is playing a
[48:10] Speaker 1: stay in his job. Bobby Patrino is playing to get
[48:13] Speaker 1: it full time.
[48:14] Speaker 3: Actually, that's a lot of points for Arkansas. It's a
[48:17] Speaker 3: good defense. It'll let down Spot losing overtime to Miszoo.
[48:24] Speaker 3: I'm gonna say twenty to seventeen the seventeen street continues
[48:29] Speaker 3: or the seventeen number continues.
[48:31] Speaker 1: Four fifteen sec Network number twenty two. Texas on the
[48:34] Speaker 1: road at Mississippi State. Texas is a seven point road favorite.
[48:39] Speaker 3: Dan, Yeah, will you picking I'm won in Mississippi State here.
[48:44] Speaker 1: I knew it. I knew it, I knew you. I
[48:47] Speaker 1: do know this.
[48:48] Speaker 3: I don't love it. But they've acquitted themselves. Other than
[48:54] Speaker 3: the A and M game, they've quitted themselves really well
[48:57] Speaker 3: against quality teams this year. They don't back down from anybody.
[49:00] Speaker 3: Texas coming off of the seatbelt Saturday performance going into
[49:04] Speaker 3: a seatbelt Saturday performance after sneaking by Kentucky and overtime
[49:08] Speaker 3: double overtime, scoring almost seventeen points in the process right,
[49:13] Speaker 3: sixteen magic sec number. Yeah, yeah, nearly seventeen. Almost got
[49:18] Speaker 3: the seventeen. There's just nothing about this game being in
[49:23] Speaker 3: Starkville that hasn't be confident in this Texas offense solving issues.
[49:28] Speaker 3: It's not the Kentucky defense isn't incredible. Texas made a
[49:32] Speaker 3: ton of mistakes on offense. I think Mississippi State. This
[49:36] Speaker 3: is going to be a juiced up crowd for Texas,
[49:39] Speaker 3: for Arch, for sark you name it. It's going to
[49:41] Speaker 3: be low scoring. But I have Mississippi State winning this game.
[49:44] Speaker 1: Wow outright? Seventeen to fourteen. Yeah, yeah, Statistically Mississippi State
[49:51] Speaker 1: actually is better offense than Texas.
[49:53] Speaker 2: Doesn't take much.
[49:55] Speaker 1: I mean, nobody had that one on the Bengo card
[49:57] Speaker 1: back in August when.
[49:57] Speaker 3: Everybody just I think Texas just moved a freshman receiver
[50:01] Speaker 3: to running back. Yeah, because they're they've gotten exceptionally thin
[50:05] Speaker 3: there as well.
[50:07] Speaker 1: Nobody had that one back in August that Mississippi State
[50:10] Speaker 1: statistically would be better than Texas on offense. Everybody's picking
[50:14] Speaker 1: Texas to be in the final four. You had it
[50:17] Speaker 1: in the National Championship. I had him playing Penn State,
[50:19] Speaker 1: which we won't talk about that. But for sure, this
[50:23] Speaker 1: is potentially a sneaky upset pick if you are a
[50:25] Speaker 1: feeling as dangerous as Dan Rubenstein.
[50:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, I just thrown with Texas.
[50:29] Speaker 1: Defense is too much for Mississippi State.
[50:32] Speaker 2: Oh, They're not going to score that much on them.
[50:34] Speaker 1: I've got it at something like twenty four to thirteen
[50:37] Speaker 1: Texas with the win. Okay, I actually really like Texas
[50:41] Speaker 1: in this matchup.
[50:44] Speaker 3: Missisippi State's defense is solid. They're not great, They're okay.
[50:47] Speaker 1: Mississippi State has been a great story this year.
[50:50] Speaker 3: M h.
[50:50] Speaker 1: But I think the Texas defense is gonna be a
[50:53] Speaker 1: little bit too much for him. Okay, seven sec Network
[50:58] Speaker 1: number seventeen to see a nine point road favorite at Kentucky.
[51:03] Speaker 1: Dan two teams in a bit of a letdown spot.
[51:06] Speaker 1: They big games a week ago, right Kentucky. Obviously, we
[51:10] Speaker 1: just talked about what they did against Texas. That was
[51:13] Speaker 1: an overtime game. Tennessee was on the road in Tuscaloosa.
[51:19] Speaker 1: Kentucky has gotten increasingly better quarterback play since they made
[51:24] Speaker 1: the switch over to Cutter Bully. Yeah, they still lost
[51:27] Speaker 1: three straight though, right South Carolina and Georgia Texas, but
[51:31] Speaker 1: the quarterback position has definitely improved. I think there has
[51:34] Speaker 1: been some good progress there. I still think I like
[51:38] Speaker 1: Tennessee in this matchup. I'm not crazy about Kentucky giving points,
[51:42] Speaker 1: giving the points.
[51:43] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[51:44] Speaker 3: Is there something about Tennessee and the SEC that has
[51:48] Speaker 3: shown that they can win something comfortably?
[51:50] Speaker 1: No?
[51:51] Speaker 3: No, so this would be a first there aren't. They
[51:53] Speaker 3: have a seatbelt Saturday matchup right, correct? Alabama on the road,
[51:57] Speaker 3: now Kentucky on the road. I think Tennessee wins this game.
[52:02] Speaker 3: I think the number is too big. I final score
[52:07] Speaker 3: twenty seven to nineteen, something like that.
[52:10] Speaker 1: And finally, eight pm ESPN two, it is Houston. It
[52:14] Speaker 1: is Arizona State. Arizona State, number twenty four team in
[52:17] Speaker 1: the land, a seven and a half point home favorite.
[52:20] Speaker 1: So here is my thing here, Okay.
[52:22] Speaker 2: I'm ready.
[52:24] Speaker 1: I think Houston is better than you think, the better
[52:27] Speaker 1: than people think, especially on defense. They are three and
[52:30] Speaker 1: one in conference. The remaining schedule is gettable, so this
[52:35] Speaker 1: is a very big game for them.
[52:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[52:38] Speaker 1: And if you believe that this is a letdown spot
[52:41] Speaker 1: for ASU, I think you could build like a little
[52:45] Speaker 1: bit of a logic maze to get yourself to picking
[52:49] Speaker 1: Houston plus the points. I don't think I can take
[52:53] Speaker 1: them out.
[52:53] Speaker 3: Right, So Sam Levitt hasn't lost in Tempe, right, No, Okay, continue.
[52:59] Speaker 1: I just don't know if there is such thing as
[53:03] Speaker 1: a letdown game for ASU, and I don't know how
[53:08] Speaker 1: many times throughout the course of this here podcast we
[53:11] Speaker 1: have encountered this scenario with ASU, right, But it seems
[53:16] Speaker 1: to me, if you go back to what happened last year,
[53:19] Speaker 1: ASU doesn't have letdown games. ASU builds on the big games.
[53:25] Speaker 1: They only get better after the big games. They build momentum,
[53:29] Speaker 1: whereas many of the other teams in college football tend
[53:31] Speaker 1: to peter out. We were waiting for ASU to peter
[53:33] Speaker 1: out all last year. They never They didn't. They almost
[53:37] Speaker 1: want a playoff game against Texas. So I think if
[53:40] Speaker 1: we learned anything from that experience, they tend to feed
[53:43] Speaker 1: off the big wins. They tend to get better after
[53:45] Speaker 1: the big wins. I think ASU wins this one going
[53:48] Speaker 1: away because of that. Even though I like Houston a
[53:51] Speaker 1: lot and I think Houston deserves a lot more respect,
[53:53] Speaker 1: I think ASU is going to feed off of the
[53:55] Speaker 1: win from a week ago over Texas Tech. They had
[53:59] Speaker 1: Sam Levitt back definitely looked much more himself. I think
[54:03] Speaker 1: as he wins this one. I think they are again
[54:04] Speaker 1: going to start building towards season's end.
[54:08] Speaker 2: I think Asu wins. I think Houston keeps it real close.
[54:10] Speaker 3: Houston's another one of my teams that I have the
[54:13] Speaker 3: sort of daticks for the d analytics. Yeah, Houston's been
[54:16] Speaker 3: a really quiet good story this year. You mentioned the defense.
[54:19] Speaker 3: They've been really good at preventing big plays, forcing three
[54:22] Speaker 3: and outs. But in terms of offensive improvement, they're one
[54:24] Speaker 3: of the top ten I think most improved offensive teams
[54:27] Speaker 3: in terms of points per drive. Tanner Coozial big deal.
[54:31] Speaker 3: Why the tight end transfer coming in along with Amaro
[54:34] Speaker 3: Thomas the receiver transfer. There's just been a huge uptick
[54:37] Speaker 3: in terms of offensive success. They were a nightmare on
[54:40] Speaker 3: offense last year. They have the dudes.
[54:42] Speaker 1: This year.
[54:43] Speaker 3: They're way better on third down, They're playing faster at times.
[54:46] Speaker 3: The offensive line has been sort of an up and
[54:48] Speaker 3: down thing, but especially on the inside, it's been solidified
[54:51] Speaker 3: by those transfers. So Houston's a success story in that
[54:56] Speaker 3: they're not incredible anywhere on their roster, but like not
[54:59] Speaker 3: even even mentioned Connor Wigman's name. He's been a stabilizing
[55:02] Speaker 3: force at quarterback, you can actually throw the ball down
[55:05] Speaker 3: the field some, so they haven't had that in Willie
[55:08] Speaker 3: Fritz's short time there. Houston's in a really good place.
[55:11] Speaker 3: I just think there are more ways for ASU to win.
[55:13] Speaker 3: I like that they're at home. I don't love Jordan
[55:15] Speaker 3: Tyson's injury. We'll see how he is.
[55:17] Speaker 1: I know, I know I'm watching that pretty closely as well.
[55:20] Speaker 3: But if Houston can stop the bigger plays and makes
[55:23] Speaker 3: Arizona State really drive down the field, it could limit
[55:26] Speaker 3: possessions here. So I have ASU winning this game, but
[55:29] Speaker 3: real tight. I' something like twenty four to twenty three.
[55:31] Speaker 1: Are there any other games on your radar that I
[55:35] Speaker 1: did get?
[55:36] Speaker 2: Portion?
[55:38] Speaker 3: Well, We've got the Dakota Marker, by the way, number
[55:40] Speaker 3: one against number two FCS snick game.
[55:43] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[55:44] Speaker 3: South Dakota State North Dakota State. First year coach. South
[55:47] Speaker 3: Dakota State quarterback Chase Basins beat up. North Dakota State
[55:51] Speaker 3: down a couple huge playmakers. At least one big playmaker
[55:53] Speaker 3: on defense got hurt last week the Bison. I'm going
[55:58] Speaker 3: to North Dakota State here. Okay, maybe it's just because
[56:01] Speaker 3: I've been there. I've been to a game I've loved it.
[56:05] Speaker 3: I think North Dakota State in this Dakota marker gets
[56:07] Speaker 3: it done. I have not watched the Bison yet. Usually
[56:10] Speaker 3: they're a December team. For me, Bison.
[56:12] Speaker 1: That was one of the coolest experiences I think that
[56:14] Speaker 1: we've had since doing it was great going out to
[56:17] Speaker 1: that playoff game. I mean it was cold.
[56:19] Speaker 2: That was cold.
[56:21] Speaker 1: People out there who tailgate for the Bison are cut
[56:25] Speaker 1: from a different cloth. It's great experience, innovative, I think
[56:29] Speaker 1: at a minimum, with how they build kind of their
[56:32] Speaker 1: little forts with jet engines inside to keep things warm.
[56:38] Speaker 1: That was an incredible experience. I'll never forget that.
[56:41] Speaker 3: Northwestern Nebraska. We already heard Matt Rule talk about it like.
[56:43] Speaker 2: In Northwestern is better.
[56:44] Speaker 3: There's gonna be a lot of Nebraska fans in this
[56:47] Speaker 3: crowd the games at Nebraska. Yes, who are going to
[56:50] Speaker 3: begin the game with this temperament? All right, let's see
[56:56] Speaker 3: that's the whole thing.
[56:58] Speaker 1: All right.
[56:59] Speaker 3: Let's see it's against Northwestern Nebraska should likely win as
[57:03] Speaker 3: a touchdown favorite, but Nebraska's in a weird, uncomfortable Jacouzi
[57:08] Speaker 3: right now, and see if they can get out NC
[57:12] Speaker 3: State pitt This is a take care business game for
[57:14] Speaker 3: pitt if they are something they should take care of
[57:16] Speaker 3: business against the Wolfpack at home, they're around a touchdown
[57:19] Speaker 3: favorite Fresno San Diego State, to me feels pretty large, beautiful,
[57:23] Speaker 3: beautiful aztecs my beautiful assex. On the road, I'm traveling
[57:27] Speaker 3: to San Diego. They're heading to the San Joaquin Valley.
[57:31] Speaker 3: Fresno State a home dog here. I think this could
[57:34] Speaker 3: go a long way. Santio State has not played a
[57:35] Speaker 3: robust schedule. I think I like San Diego State at home,
[57:39] Speaker 3: excuse me, San Diego State on the road. I don't
[57:41] Speaker 3: trust Fresno through the air to stay clean. Wisconsin Oregon
[57:46] Speaker 3: Man thirty Wisconsin spread.
[57:49] Speaker 1: Thirty five point dog man.
[57:52] Speaker 3: Wisconsin has not scored two offensive touchdowns in a game
[57:56] Speaker 3: against a Power conference opponent this year. The game against
[58:00] Speaker 3: Bama featured a kickoff return touchdown.
[58:02] Speaker 1: Somebody put together their drive chart, Oh my god, over
[58:06] Speaker 1: the last couple weeks, and I mean it's just a disaster.
[58:09] Speaker 1: It's an absolute disaster. I am a little bit disappointed
[58:13] Speaker 1: in you that you have not picked up on this
[58:14] Speaker 1: to do a dramatic drive chart reading.
[58:17] Speaker 3: I might save it for after this Oregon game on
[58:19] Speaker 3: our Monday show. I might submit a Wisconsin drive chart
[58:24] Speaker 3: video of myself doing this from the dance floor if
[58:27] Speaker 3: it goes terribly. The Wisconsin offense, I think they have
[58:30] Speaker 3: a buy after this game, but Luke Fickle seems to
[58:33] Speaker 3: have a vote of confidence from the ad. This game
[58:36] Speaker 3: is going to be ugly. Wisconsin's got some pretty good
[58:38] Speaker 3: guys on defense, but they're just not gonna be able
[58:40] Speaker 3: to hold up because the offense just can't do anything.
[58:43] Speaker 3: So Oregon should likely limb from limb rip apart Wisconsin.
[58:48] Speaker 3: Louisville's in a letdown spot but should be okay Miami.
[58:51] Speaker 3: Stanford should not be okay for Stanford traveling across the country,
[58:55] Speaker 3: but the Stanford defense quietly improved this season. Ye turned
[58:59] Speaker 3: to a back quarterback though. TCU should take care of
[59:03] Speaker 3: business on the road against West Virginia, but a letdown
[59:05] Speaker 3: spot after they beat Baylor. You mentioned Houston, ASU, I
[59:09] Speaker 3: think oh and Colorado Utah is interesting to me. Colorado
[59:14] Speaker 3: can move the ball. There hasn't been a significant drop
[59:16] Speaker 3: off offensively even without she Door Sanders and Travis Hunter.
[59:19] Speaker 3: The problem with Colorado is they have not been able
[59:22] Speaker 3: to stop the run, and that is the Utah. M O,
[59:25] Speaker 3: So I think I have Utah winning this game comfortably.
[59:27] Speaker 3: They're like at two touchdown favorite here.
[59:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw that. It's a pretty big favorite.
[59:30] Speaker 3: Yeah, I have Utah thirty seven to twenty. I think
[59:35] Speaker 3: they cover so Dan.
[59:42] Speaker 1: If you're looking at week nine and wondered, when can
[59:44] Speaker 1: I go out and be amongst the people, there are
[59:48] Speaker 1: obviously some extenuating circumstances. You've got one of your best
[59:51] Speaker 1: friends in the entire world getting married and you have
[59:53] Speaker 1: no choice getting married on the day of the week nine,
[59:56] Speaker 1: then you gotta go. You gotta do. Not preferable, but
[59:59] Speaker 1: you do. You gotta do for all adults here, do
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: what you gotta do. So I'll be doing the show
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: solo Saturday night on the YouTube channel. Would encourage people
[1:00:09] Speaker 1: to stop on, buy and egg me on, yell at me,
[1:00:13] Speaker 1: try to be nice. I've never done that before. I
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: have no idea how this is going to go. Be horrible,
[1:00:17] Speaker 1: so I apologize in advance, but we're gonna give a shot.
[1:00:20] Speaker 3: Well, you also have to do it knowing people are
[1:00:21] Speaker 3: going to listen to the show as a podcast but
[1:00:24] Speaker 3: also watch it. It's easier when you're just having a conversation. Right,
[1:00:27] Speaker 3: you're just having a filmed podcast. But now this is
[1:00:29] Speaker 3: a broadcast. It's a broad Kail.
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: I can't just wear a funny hat and expect that
[1:00:34] Speaker 1: everybody will kind of, you know, gloss over it. If
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: it's bad, worth a shot. It's where I might wear
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: a funny hat. We'll see for the rest of you, though.
[1:00:43] Speaker 1: Most of the big games are in the SEC. So
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: what I would say is run the read option. You
[1:00:49] Speaker 1: can opt to either watch the early game okay, Old
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: Miss Oklahoma or the lake game, which is Texas A
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: and M and LSU. Build your day around one one
[1:01:00] Speaker 1: of those two time slots. The rest of it. The
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: rest of it you could take or leave it. Okay. Now,
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: I would say, there's a wonderful quad opportunity.
[1:01:10] Speaker 2: And my question to you is how bad you really.
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: Want place in the middle of the afternoon. You've got
[1:01:16] Speaker 1: like eight games.
[1:01:18] Speaker 2: That's a lot.
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: You could put two quads together if you want. Yeah,
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: you've got Miszoo Andy, You've got Alabama, South Carolina, You've
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: got BYU Iowa State, and you've got Illinois Washington, which
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: I think will be really interesting in the three thirty block.
[1:01:30] Speaker 1: You've also got the aforementioned San Diego State Fresno game,
[1:01:33] Speaker 1: which could be fun, Minnesota Iowa traditional rivalry, Baylor Cincinnati
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: if you want points, and Texas Mississippi State if you
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: want upset potential. Actually, if you want upset potentially, you
[1:01:44] Speaker 1: also have Alabama South Carolina. That's just me speaking, Okay,
[1:01:48] Speaker 1: so you can run the Reid option. I would say,
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: if you've got no other way out for plans this weekend,
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: pick one of those games early game, late game. If
[1:02:01] Speaker 1: you are gonna be in front of the TV all day,
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: build yourself a nice little quatter two in the middle
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: of the day.
[1:02:06] Speaker 2: Oh I like that? Okay, your fair enough.
[1:02:10] Speaker 3: By the way, you should for your solo performance. You
[1:02:14] Speaker 3: should see the degree to which you can create the biggest,
[1:02:19] Speaker 3: most beautiful straw men in your broadcast, because look, you're
[1:02:23] Speaker 3: just gonna be buying time, right, You're not gonna like,
[1:02:25] Speaker 3: all right, well those are my eleven minutes.
[1:02:27] Speaker 2: So you're so.
[1:02:28] Speaker 3: I've listened to a lot of sports radio solo hosted
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: sports radio. So what you're gonna have to learn to
[1:02:33] Speaker 3: do is lean on the phrase I hear what you're saying,
[1:02:37] Speaker 3: but tye, what about that? Is gonna be your key
[1:02:41] Speaker 3: to stretch this. Your Hamburger Helper performance is going to
[1:02:45] Speaker 3: be the straw man with every single result. But Ty,
[1:02:49] Speaker 3: I hear what you're saying, but tennessee blah blah blah,
[1:02:51] Speaker 3: and then you're gonna respond to nobody saying what you
[1:02:55] Speaker 3: actually said. That I think is gonna be the miracle
[1:02:58] Speaker 3: of your Saturday night.
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: Performance, the mayor of my Saturday Night performance. If anybody
[1:03:02] Speaker 1: out there has any tips or tricks, but my advice
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: if you've done this before, sliverble at gmail dot com
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: or hit me up on social media if you're out.
[1:03:13] Speaker 3: Or you'll say something like, but where are all those
[1:03:15] Speaker 3: people who are saying.
[1:03:19] Speaker 1: You don't hear from them anymore?
[1:03:21] Speaker 2: I think I just did that with South Carolina fans
[1:03:23] Speaker 2: to start the episode.
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: I think I think you did.
[1:03:25] Speaker 2: But I think you have I think you have it
[1:03:27] Speaker 2: in you.
[1:03:28] Speaker 3: Speaking of having it in you, time, will you drop
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: that egg stanky shaking quaking.
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: Drum and five shaking it's quaking high noon, Georgetown four
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: and three on the road at Bucknell four and four. Dan,
[1:03:52] Speaker 1: you're gonna be in California. You're gonna miss all these
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: paligue games. Man, I know it's a shame.
[1:03:57] Speaker 3: Give me Georgetown here on the what about the Hoya
[1:04:00] Speaker 3: season all, I'm taking.
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: Them away from multi sports field.
[1:04:03] Speaker 3: I think they've grown in a way that not a
[1:04:05] Speaker 3: lot of people can comprehend, myself included.
[1:04:07] Speaker 1: Continue one pm. It is the Lehigh Mountain Hawks seven
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: and zero and number seven in your latest FCS poll.
[1:04:15] Speaker 2: That is right.
[1:04:17] Speaker 1: They're on the road at Fordham. Fordham has also played
[1:04:20] Speaker 1: seven games they've won, won. They are one and six.
[1:04:23] Speaker 1: Give me them Engineers, baby, give me the le High
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: Mountain Hawks. They are going straight to the top.
[1:04:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going Engineers here and.
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: Last, but not least, it's a light slate here in
[1:04:34] Speaker 1: the Patriot League this week. We've got Colgate at two
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: and five. We've got holy Cross at one and six.
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: Somebody's got to win. It's a bad football game, Dan,
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: I have not looked at the point spread, but I'd
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: be inclined to go Gators here on the road.
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: I'm gonna go Gators as well.
[1:04:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, if you've made it this far, perhaps we can
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: get folks little easter egg Dan. Oh, it's been a
[1:04:59] Speaker 1: hot minute since we did a secret verbal.
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: Oh.
[1:05:02] Speaker 1: I like this, and I've had a couple of requests
[1:05:05] Speaker 1: come in, particularly on the discord, people asking me reaching
[1:05:09] Speaker 1: out privately. Sam. Whatever happens is secret verbals. You have
[1:05:14] Speaker 1: gotten in trouble for some secret verbals in the past,
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: but not but we've also made friends. Yeah, I've got
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: a target here that I think is a perfect subject
[1:05:26] Speaker 1: for our secret verbal. Okay, can you remind folks what
[1:05:29] Speaker 1: the secret verbal is?
[1:05:30] Speaker 3: Okay, the secret verbal is going on. I guess in
[1:05:33] Speaker 3: this case it would be, uh, Twitter or X the
[1:05:36] Speaker 3: everything app or X call in the Everything app.
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: Yes, but is that what it's called. I think he
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: wants to call it that, but I don't think X
[1:05:45] Speaker 1: call in the Everything app. Sure, yeah, I am not
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: submitting payments on the Everything app. FYI.
[1:05:51] Speaker 3: So you go on whatever you call it, Twitter, X,
[1:05:55] Speaker 3: and we are going to indicate a person that you
[1:05:58] Speaker 3: are going to tweet at, and you're going to tweet
[1:06:00] Speaker 3: at them a very specific message, but without a trace
[1:06:03] Speaker 3: of where it originated from. This show, right, and the
[1:06:07] Speaker 3: message is meant to confuse and titillate and or make
[1:06:11] Speaker 3: somebody curious. That is correct, why they're being inundated with
[1:06:14] Speaker 3: this message.
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: You do not tell the subject who prompted you to
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: send the message. You do not indicate anything otherwise, you
[1:06:24] Speaker 1: do not even get into a conversation. Right, this is
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: just sort of a random stream of tweets, posts, zets,
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: whatever that come into that person's mentions, and they have
[1:06:36] Speaker 1: no idea where they came from.
[1:06:38] Speaker 2: Right.
[1:06:38] Speaker 1: It is not intended to be destructive. It is not
[1:06:40] Speaker 1: intended to be cruel or mean.
[1:06:42] Speaker 2: Correct.
[1:06:43] Speaker 1: Our subject on this secret verbal is Tim Brando. I
[1:06:48] Speaker 1: like that. Obviously a long time announcer, Tim Brandou for
[1:06:51] Speaker 1: CBS calls some of the late games. I have a
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: sense that if we do this right, Tim Branda will
[1:06:57] Speaker 1: have no idea where any of these are coming from.
[1:07:00] Speaker 1: His name on Twitter X is simply Tim Brando, Tim
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: b r a n d O Dan, national sports commentator
[1:07:08] Speaker 1: for Fox Sports. Yeah, has a healthy following. What are
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: we tweeting at him?
[1:07:13] Speaker 3: Okay, so you're gonna tweet at Tim Brando. Hey, I
[1:07:17] Speaker 3: know this is a little bit out of nowhere, but
[1:07:20] Speaker 3: were you at Eurovision twenty thirteen to see cascada? Is
