College Football Week 7 is here, and the schedule is absolutely loaded. We've got top-five showdowns, historic road trips, heated rivalries and a Saturday where survival might be the name of the game. We're making our picks for more than 20 matchups, and things could get wild in a hurry. We start with Ohio State at Indiana in a massive Big Ten showdown. Are the defending champion Hoosiers still the team to beat, or can the Buckeyes expose some cracks? Then it's Notre Dame at BYU for a historic top-10 matchup in Provo. Can the Cougars turn their home-field advantage into something special, or will Notre Dame's increasingly dangerous offense be too much? We also break down Alabama-Tennessee, Missouri-Ole Miss, Mississippi State-LSU and Oklahoma State-Houston, with some strong opinions and a few surprising predictions along the way. Then we work our way through a packed Saturday schedule, including Florida-Texas, Penn State-Michigan, Kentucky-Oklahoma, Florida State-Miami and Nebraska-Oregon. We debate which favorites are vulnerable, which underdogs have a fighting chance, and which games could get downright ugly. Plus, our Locks of the Week, under-the-radar games worth watching, and a new Saturday nickname inspired by the animal kingdom. Join us for our Ohio State-Indiana watchalong and Saturday night reaction stream! [0:42] Speaker 1: the Solid Verbal.
[0:43] Speaker 2: The Solid Verbal.
[0:44] Speaker 1: Come after me. I'm a man. I'm 40.
[0:47] Speaker 3: I've heard so many players say, well, I want to
[0:49] Speaker 3: be happy.
[0:50] Speaker 1: You want to be happy for a day? Eat a steak.
[0:52] Speaker 1: It's that woof, woof. And now, Dan and Ty. Dan Rubenstein,
[0:58] Speaker 1: I have a very important question for you. Are you ready?
[1:02] Speaker 1: I'm always ready for those, Ty. Can you believe it's
[1:05] Speaker 1: week seven? Can you believe it is college football week seven?
[1:10] Speaker 1: I can. Yes, I can. I can absolutely believe it's
[1:13] Speaker 1: week seven.
[1:14] Speaker 3: I truly was so sad last week, nothing to do
[1:18] Speaker 3: with Oregon's performance against UCLA, so sad to have missed
[1:22] Speaker 3: the ability to react in live time With you. It
[1:26] Speaker 3: turns out my internet speed would have been terrific at
[1:28] Speaker 3: the hotel I was staying at.
[1:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, your internet speed at the hotel was better than
[1:31] Speaker 1: my old internet speed before they upgraded us here. Just
[1:33] Speaker 1: kind of nuts.
[1:35] Speaker 3: Shout out to Los Alamos, California. The beautiful, I think
[1:38] Speaker 3: it's in the Santa Ynez Valley, wine country up there
[1:40] Speaker 3: above Santa Barbara. After I had seen all of the
[1:44] Speaker 3: games on Sunday, after I had caught up, and I
[1:46] Speaker 3: had seen scores and I had seen clips, but after
[1:48] Speaker 3: I had fully caught up on Sunday... Like a lightning
[1:52] Speaker 3: bolt of sadness hit me that I wasn't able to
[1:54] Speaker 3: react in live time with you. So I'm glad to
[1:57] Speaker 3: be back in the rhythm of the season in week seven.
[2:01] Speaker 1: Well, it is a pleasure to have you back. We
[2:03] Speaker 1: are now back in full force alongside the Verbalerhood. Thank
[2:07] Speaker 1: you to one and all for downloading, for listening, for
[2:09] Speaker 1: supporting what we do. We have a massive run the
[2:15] Speaker 1: board contest this weekend. You are playing for a $ 500
[2:18] Speaker 1: Home Depot gift card. I will talk about that, the
[2:23] Speaker 1: details around that, in just a little bit. Sorry. Not
[2:27] Speaker 1: a sponsor. Could be. Yeah. But we have to play
[2:30] Speaker 1: the sound. Of course, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's
[2:32] Speaker 1: just what we do here. Brick by brick. That being said,
[2:35] Speaker 1: normally we do the game for people who are paying subscribers.
[2:39] Speaker 1: Certified premium for ballers out of forballers.com. As of yesterday afternoon,
[2:44] Speaker 1: I switched on the free trial option, meaning for those
[2:49] Speaker 1: of you out there who aren't necessarily sure if you
[2:53] Speaker 1: want to jump in, but you would like to play
[2:56] Speaker 1: for the gift card. You would like to see what
[2:58] Speaker 1: the Verballer portal is all about. If you're going out
[3:00] Speaker 1: to Verballers.com. If you go through to the join button
[3:04] Speaker 1: right there, you'll see it. When you go to the site,
[3:06] Speaker 1: you can sign up for a seven day free trial.
[3:08] Speaker 1: If you sign up for the free trial, you get
[3:09] Speaker 1: access to play in this week's game for week seven
[3:12] Speaker 1: for the $ 500 gift card.
[3:14] Speaker 3: So it's, it's not a full commitment, but if, if
[3:18] Speaker 3: you and the increasingly sentient for ballers.com website want to
[3:23] Speaker 3: nibble on each other's ears, who are we to stop you?
[3:27] Speaker 1: If we're giving you the opportunity, free trial, free to play,
[3:32] Speaker 1: This week, perhaps this week only. We'll see how this
[3:34] Speaker 1: thing goes. But for Ballers.com, in case you are interested,
[3:37] Speaker 1: if not, we can still be friends. Please do rate, review,
[3:42] Speaker 1: and subscribe. Yes. What do we got this weekend, Dan?
[3:46] Speaker 1: How are we looking?
[3:47] Speaker 2: Oh, man.
[3:47] Speaker 1: We're looking real good, Ty. So, look.
[3:49] Speaker 3: You look across the matchups of Week 7. And you
[3:52] Speaker 3: look at the underlying emotion. You look at the... Not
[3:56] Speaker 3: so underlying stakes to all of these games because we're
[3:58] Speaker 3: getting into the thick of it, right?
[3:59] Speaker 1: This is mid-October.
[4:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[4:01] Speaker 1: This is when it gets violent. This is when it
[4:03] Speaker 1: gets dangerous.
[4:04] Speaker 3: This is when it gets sort of natural in the
[4:07] Speaker 3: nature way is what I'm talking about, Ty. You know
[4:10] Speaker 3: what I'm saying here. Look what we have here. We
[4:12] Speaker 3: have Ohio State, Indiana. What do we have as two
[4:14] Speaker 3: teams in the Big Ten? Apex Predators.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Yes? We can agree? Yeah, yeah. We have Mississippi State, LSU.
[4:21] Speaker 1: Tiger versus Tiger. Tiger. No, excuse me.
[4:25] Speaker 3: We got Bulldog versus Tiger, but you know what I'm
[4:27] Speaker 3: saying here.
[4:28] Speaker 1: I gotcha. Yeah, we got Tigers on Tigers on Tigers.
[4:29] Speaker 1: Bulldogs can be mean. They're called Bulldogs. This is true.
[4:32] Speaker 3: We've got Herd Elephants versus Potential Poachers. If you look
[4:36] Speaker 3: at the old Tennessee logo, Alabama.
[4:39] Speaker 1: Is that a stretch? Potentially. It's a little bit of
[4:41] Speaker 1: a stretch, yeah. Potentially. Tigers on the chase.
[4:45] Speaker 3: Ole Miss hosting Mizzou and trying to get Trinidad Chambliss down.
[4:49] Speaker 1: Yes. Okay. Notre Dame BYU. Where are we going with this?
[4:54] Speaker 1: Cougars defending their den. Correct? Cougars defending their den once
[5:00] Speaker 1: again with Houston. Okay. Welcome, Ty, to Serengeti Saturday.
[5:06] Speaker 2: There is food in great quantity.
[5:11] Speaker 1: Once again, Serengeti Saturday.
[5:14] Speaker 2: There is food in great quantity.
[5:19] Speaker 1: Thank you to the Attenborough family. That's a wonderful nickname
[5:22] Speaker 1: for week seven. I love it. Yeah, absolutely. I love it.
[5:26] Speaker 1: We're out here scavenging for food. Yeah. Trying to find
[5:32] Speaker 1: a way to make it from one end to the
[5:33] Speaker 1: other without getting eaten by the critters running out of water.
[5:37] Speaker 3: I mean, we can go Gators versus wildebeests. That's the
[5:40] Speaker 3: stretch for Texas. Wildcats hunting with Northwestern on the road.
[5:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot here. There is indeed. Give us
[5:49] Speaker 1: a call as you are watching all the games that
[5:51] Speaker 1: we are set to discuss here. 855-VERBAL-3. I'll be putting
[5:55] Speaker 1: the reverbs together this week. Shay's out of commission. Is
[5:59] Speaker 1: he in Osaka once again? Parts unknown. Is he in Singapore?
[6:03] Speaker 1: Parts unknown. Shay, just living that dream life. Let's get
[6:07] Speaker 1: into it, man. Let's do it. Okay. Damn. Time. Help.
[6:12] Speaker 2: I need pics of the week.
[6:15] Speaker 1: We have a loaded slate. It's huge. Huge slate this week. Okay.
[6:20] Speaker 1: Get fired up. Pause the recording if you have to.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Shake it out a little bit. Deep breaths. We don't
[6:27] Speaker 1: want to hyperventilate. We got a lot of ground to cover.
[6:29] Speaker 1: There's a lot. Over the next hour, we're going to
[6:33] Speaker 1: go longer than an hour for this. We just have to. Yeah.
[6:36] Speaker 1: High Noon on Fox. Number four, Ohio State. A three
[6:41] Speaker 1: and a half point road favorite. squaring off in Bloomington
[6:45] Speaker 1: against No. 5 Indiana defending champs. A wonderful matchup to
[6:51] Speaker 1: kick off your Serengeti Saturday. This is clearly the biggest
[6:56] Speaker 1: home football game ever in the history of the Indiana
[6:59] Speaker 1: Hoosiers football program. It is a very big deal. Everyone
[7:03] Speaker 1: is going to be fired up. It is a great
[7:05] Speaker 1: college town. For our part, Dan Rubenstein, we will be
[7:08] Speaker 1: doing a watch-along for this game out on our YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Facebook, Twitter.
[7:15] Speaker 1: I'll see about Instagram. I don't know how that works yet.
[7:17] Speaker 1: I know you said you were working on your OnlyFans.
[7:20] Speaker 1: Have you figured that part out yet or no? OnlyDans?
[7:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:23] Speaker 3: Oh, that's been a hit for a few years running now, Ty.
[7:26] Speaker 3: You can't even imagine the depraved things that happen on
[7:30] Speaker 3: that site.
[7:30] Speaker 1: Continue. In case anyone was wondering, just to put a
[7:33] Speaker 1: bow on this, I did accept your challenge to make
[7:35] Speaker 1: a Tecmo Bowl-themed scoreboard that I will be unveiling for
[7:38] Speaker 1: this watch-along video. It will blow everyone's mind, I promise.
[7:42] Speaker 3: It's not even a Tecmo Bowl themed scoreboard. It's a
[7:45] Speaker 3: Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Super Bowl, Tecmo Bowl, whatever, themed replay
[7:50] Speaker 3: reenacting visualizer.
[7:52] Speaker 1: That's correct.
[7:53] Speaker 3: Because the rest of the scoreboard is just like a
[7:55] Speaker 3: very clean, nice way to follow along with the game
[7:57] Speaker 3: and with our conversation.
[7:59] Speaker 1: I've done it. I've created this. I've made it. You're
[8:02] Speaker 1: an insane person. I... Kind of am. Yeah. Yeah. All right.
[8:06] Speaker 1: Let's talk about this game. As someone who picks games
[8:10] Speaker 1: in our run the board contest, as a college football
[8:13] Speaker 1: fan in general, I feel like there has been an
[8:17] Speaker 1: Indiana trap these last three weeks. The trap being that
[8:23] Speaker 1: you saw the game against Northwestern wasn't necessarily the type
[8:26] Speaker 1: of performance that's going to knock you over. You saw
[8:29] Speaker 1: what happened a week ago. They won by the skin
[8:32] Speaker 1: of their teeth. You come away from watching those games
[8:36] Speaker 1: feeling as a fan, whether you root for Indiana or not,
[8:39] Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. This is a college football fan. Maybe
[8:43] Speaker 1: the defending champs are more beatable. Maybe they're not that impressive.
[8:47] Speaker 1: You and I have had this conversation, right? Sure.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[8:50] Speaker 1: And I'm saying this, by the way, as someone currently
[8:52] Speaker 1: caught in the trap, because that's how I feel. I
[8:55] Speaker 1: think they're... maybe was something of a look ahead factor
[8:59] Speaker 1: at play last week with the Nebraska matchup. But on
[9:02] Speaker 1: the whole, I've come out of some of these Indiana
[9:04] Speaker 1: performances feeling as though they are far more beatable, definitely
[9:10] Speaker 1: more gettable than they were a year ago, which is,
[9:13] Speaker 1: you know, not even necessarily a derogatory statement because they
[9:17] Speaker 1: were unstoppable a year ago. No, they weren't.
[9:19] Speaker 3: First of all, they weren't. I totally disagree. Were they
[9:23] Speaker 3: unstoppable against Penn State? Iowa, Oregon, those games all came
[9:27] Speaker 3: down to it in the fourth quarter, right?
[9:28] Speaker 1: True.
[9:29] Speaker 2: They did.
[9:30] Speaker 1: They were excellent. I got a different feeling from the
[9:33] Speaker 1: offense last year than I do this year. Yes, but.
[9:37] Speaker 3: That was also a developmental thing, right? He got stronger
[9:40] Speaker 3: as the season went on and peaked, certainly, in the
[9:43] Speaker 3: college football playoff late season with the, now this is
[9:45] Speaker 3: a rematch of the Big Ten championship game last year
[9:47] Speaker 3: that Indiana handled well.
[9:49] Speaker 1: But they didn't win every week 35-7 last year. This
[9:52] Speaker 1: is very true. They were playing tight games in the
[9:54] Speaker 1: fourth quarter. Okay. So I guess, I guess my question
[9:57] Speaker 1: that on the heels of that is what we are
[9:59] Speaker 1: a now a continuation of the dominance we saw on
[10:03] Speaker 1: display a year ago? It's just maybe not as sexy
[10:07] Speaker 1: and we haven't seen him play any great teams to
[10:10] Speaker 1: really judge what they're made of. Or do we think
[10:13] Speaker 1: there is actually something of a step back that we
[10:16] Speaker 1: should consider given the magnitude of this game? It's a
[10:18] Speaker 1: top five matchup in Bloomington with Ohio State coming to town.
[10:22] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's totally reasonable to say Indiana looks
[10:25] Speaker 3: with how they performed last week on the road.
[10:27] Speaker 1: Tough place. It was windy.
[10:29] Speaker 3: They were god awful on key downs, third and fourth down.
[10:32] Speaker 3: The running game wasn't there for large swaths against Indiana.
[10:34] Speaker 3: what I think is going to be a very good
[10:36] Speaker 3: Nebraska defense all season long. But even still, it seems
[10:40] Speaker 3: like an Indiana team that has shown an ability to
[10:43] Speaker 3: coach and perform at a higher level than Nebraska has recently.
[10:45] Speaker 3: And that was a very tight game.
[10:47] Speaker 1: For four quarters.
[10:50] Speaker 3: I like Indiana here. I like Indiana here not because
[10:53] Speaker 3: I dislike Ohio State. I like Ohio State plenty. I
[10:55] Speaker 3: think Indiana, with their defense, especially up front, may have
[10:58] Speaker 3: a certain advantage against Ohio State up front. It has
[11:01] Speaker 3: not been the best year for ball security for Julian Sayen,
[11:06] Speaker 3: I would say. Now, you're picking nits here, but he's
[11:09] Speaker 3: fumbled a few times. The focus on the offense is
[11:13] Speaker 3: rightfully on Jeremiah Smith, but Indiana can win with Jeremiah
[11:17] Speaker 3: Smith going for 173, right? That there's... not the depth
[11:23] Speaker 3: of proven receiver, proven star power on this Ohio State offense.
[11:29] Speaker 3: And defensively, I just, I think there is enough up
[11:32] Speaker 3: in the air with what Ohio State kind of hasn't
[11:35] Speaker 3: faced in terms of offenses this season that I don't
[11:39] Speaker 3: doubt their excellence. I'm just curious what it looks like
[11:42] Speaker 3: against a couple of receivers like Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker.
[11:45] Speaker 3: And if I'm going to repeatedly plant my flag of
[11:49] Speaker 3: an underdog with a good defense at home, is that
[11:51] Speaker 3: what we're dealing with.
[11:52] Speaker 1: Here indiana's got a good defense and they are at
[11:55] Speaker 1: home correct i don't.
[11:57] Speaker 3: Know how to what degree i believe in this indiana
[11:59] Speaker 3: secondary in the way that i believed in them last
[12:01] Speaker 3: year but they return enough pieces and the front should
[12:04] Speaker 3: be as good as ever for indiana with a beat
[12:08] Speaker 3: up ohio state offensive line i think the the evident
[12:12] Speaker 3: the excellence excuse me of both of these teams is
[12:14] Speaker 3: sort of self-evident i'm not questioning i don't think any
[12:16] Speaker 3: one of these teams is overrated especially with what ohio
[12:19] Speaker 3: state mostly did against texas on the road I just
[12:26] Speaker 3: feel as if right now, Indiana is operating, especially on
[12:31] Speaker 3: defense in a, in a manner in which I think
[12:35] Speaker 3: they can win close against Ohio state.
[12:39] Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a close game as well.
[12:41] Speaker 1: I'm with you on that front for Indiana though. I like,
[12:45] Speaker 1: I worry, I'm wondering if you worry about maybe an
[12:48] Speaker 1: over-reliance on big plays. Sure. Last week, that was very
[12:52] Speaker 1: much the deal. They needed two of them from Nick
[12:54] Speaker 1: Marsh to win. Otherwise, like you said, the running game
[12:57] Speaker 1: didn't really get going. They were one of 10 on
[12:59] Speaker 1: third downs. They've got two really good receivers, two really
[13:03] Speaker 1: good NFL caliber receivers in Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh. Yeah.
[13:07] Speaker 1: And so how they get them the ball, what it
[13:08] Speaker 1: looks like, I would say against better coverage, which they
[13:11] Speaker 1: will face on the Ohio State side. All that stuff
[13:13] Speaker 1: is sort of up in the air to me. But
[13:16] Speaker 1: for sure, I think they'll be able to move the ball.
[13:18] Speaker 1: on Ohio state. I don't think it's going to be
[13:20] Speaker 1: any kind of offensive explosion on either side of this one.
[13:23] Speaker 1: And to your point on the Ohio state side, I
[13:25] Speaker 1: do worry about whether they can protect Julian saying, cause
[13:28] Speaker 1: this is a really good Indiana front. They're great at
[13:30] Speaker 1: getting pressure, especially the right side of that Ohio state
[13:34] Speaker 1: line where they've been very gettable. I think I saw
[13:37] Speaker 1: Philip Daniels, the right tackle is going to be back
[13:39] Speaker 1: for this game, which should give them something of a lift,
[13:41] Speaker 1: but they are still kind of nicked up on that side.
[13:43] Speaker 1: And I think it's a fair question to ask. Just
[13:47] Speaker 1: from a stat standpoint, Julian Sane has targeted Jeremiah Smith
[13:52] Speaker 1: 66 times. That is 45 more than the next closest,
[13:57] Speaker 1: which is Devin McEwen. Who is like health questionable right
[14:01] Speaker 1: now in this moment, I believe. And so I guess
[14:04] Speaker 1: maybe to zoom out a little bit, everyone knows Julian
[14:08] Speaker 1: Sane is going to throw it to Jeremiah Smith. He's
[14:11] Speaker 1: going to need some time for those roots to develop.
[14:14] Speaker 1: Indiana has been in this position before. They clearly know
[14:18] Speaker 1: what they're up against with this guy. I don't think
[14:21] Speaker 1: anyone can really stop him, but can they contain him enough,
[14:24] Speaker 1: to your point, to get the dub? I think that's fair.
[14:28] Speaker 1: I think it's absolutely something that they can do. I'm
[14:30] Speaker 1: going to take the points here because I believe it's
[14:33] Speaker 1: a close game. I do think this is going to
[14:36] Speaker 1: be a real challenge for Ohio State, if only because
[14:39] Speaker 1: of the pressure that they're going to face up front,
[14:42] Speaker 1: but also because What Indiana has on offense? It's a
[14:44] Speaker 1: good Indiana offense. I don't think we've fully seen how
[14:47] Speaker 1: good it can be quite yet. I still have some
[14:50] Speaker 1: questions about Josh Hoover. What will he look like from
[14:54] Speaker 1: a consistency standpoint in a big game of this magnitude?
[14:57] Speaker 1: For his part, he's been outstanding statistically this year. I
[15:01] Speaker 1: do watch him and wonder, is there any more meat
[15:03] Speaker 1: on the bone? What more can they get out of
[15:06] Speaker 1: Josh Hoover? I'm familiar with his previous work at TCU
[15:10] Speaker 1: where he was something of a turnover machine. We haven't
[15:12] Speaker 1: seen that at all. yet so maybe it's the offense
[15:15] Speaker 1: maybe he's learned maybe you know i last year's not
[15:18] Speaker 1: this year but um i'm a little bit worried on
[15:25] Speaker 1: the indiana side some of those big plays dry up
[15:27] Speaker 1: and that was the thing that was really stuck in
[15:29] Speaker 1: my craw the most as i was trying to break
[15:31] Speaker 1: this down i think it's lower scoring i think it's
[15:35] Speaker 1: close i think it's something like 24 21 ohio state
[15:38] Speaker 1: outright I think because I trust Julian's say in a
[15:43] Speaker 1: smidge more, I think because that Jeremiah Smith matchup is
[15:47] Speaker 1: such a problem, it's going to have to pull resources
[15:50] Speaker 1: away from other aspects of that defense such that it
[15:54] Speaker 1: probably opens up opportunities for others. If we know it
[15:58] Speaker 1: and if Indiana knows it, surely Ohio State knows it
[16:02] Speaker 1: as well and they will have a game plan for that. Yeah.
[16:05] Speaker 1: That's what I am banking on here. I think it's
[16:07] Speaker 1: a great game though. I'm thrilled we're doing the watch along. Yeah,
[16:10] Speaker 1: all of our channels. So we'd encourage everybody to stop
[16:12] Speaker 1: on by, if only to see our little Tecmo thing
[16:14] Speaker 1: that we made. But 24-21 is where I'm at. I'm
[16:17] Speaker 1: going Ohio State outright, but Indiana with the points.
[16:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, at first I said to myself, like,
[16:22] Speaker 3: can you Josh Hoover your way into a win against
[16:25] Speaker 3: Ohio State? But then I reminded myself, you can Arch
[16:28] Speaker 3: Manning your way into a win against Ohio State. Technically speaking,
[16:31] Speaker 3: there was a lot more at play than just Arch
[16:33] Speaker 3: in that game. But he was able to improvise late
[16:34] Speaker 3: and make plays. And there were plays to be made.
[16:38] Speaker 3: that he had. Um, that would be my concern. I mean,
[16:42] Speaker 3: they didn't score a touchdown until fourth quarter against Nebraska.
[16:45] Speaker 3: And as you said, the reliance on the big plays
[16:47] Speaker 3: last week is not the totality of the Indiana experience,
[16:50] Speaker 3: a tough place to play against a good defense. Uh,
[16:52] Speaker 3: and they pulled out a win in a losable moment,
[16:54] Speaker 3: which I think very good teams do. I don't know
[16:57] Speaker 3: what Indiana's ceiling is.
[16:58] Speaker 1: No.
[16:58] Speaker 3: And that, that to me is the question that like
[17:01] Speaker 3: when you're doing three quarterbacks in three years and you're,
[17:04] Speaker 3: you're not starting at square one, obviously with Josh Hoover's experience, but,
[17:08] Speaker 3: He's new there. This is going to be his first
[17:11] Speaker 3: truly huge game for Indiana. That would be a little
[17:16] Speaker 3: bit of my concern, but I have 0.0 level of
[17:21] Speaker 3: concern about Indiana's readiness and preparation for this game. It
[17:25] Speaker 3: is going to be a talent and what happens in
[17:30] Speaker 3: those 50-50 moments. The key fourth and two in plus
[17:33] Speaker 3: territory for either one of these teams. That's what we
[17:36] Speaker 3: saw last year in the Big Ten Championship game, that
[17:38] Speaker 3: Indiana was able to come through in those moments in
[17:40] Speaker 3: a way that Ohio State wasn't. And so because the
[17:43] Speaker 3: game is at home, I do give that very, very
[17:46] Speaker 3: slight edge. And I'm going to go 21-20 Indiana.
[17:49] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:49] Speaker 1: I mean, we're both kind of... It's at a razor's edge. Yeah.
[17:53] Speaker 1: Of similar mind, I think these are two very even teams. Yeah.
[17:57] Speaker 1: which is part of why I'm taking the points. I
[17:59] Speaker 1: just don't have a strong lean one way or the other.
[18:01] Speaker 1: I have a very, very slight lean in the direction
[18:03] Speaker 1: of Ohio State, and that might only be because we've
[18:05] Speaker 1: been a little bit, at least I've been a little
[18:07] Speaker 1: bit higher on Ohio State.
[18:08] Speaker 3: This is also us recording it days before the final
[18:11] Speaker 3: injury report, too, and these are two dinged-up teams, as
[18:14] Speaker 3: we've seen the past couple weeks, that who is and
[18:17] Speaker 3: isn't on the field, like every other game, is going
[18:20] Speaker 3: to go a long way towards, okay, how are we
[18:22] Speaker 3: adjusting now that their secondary is this or their offensive
[18:25] Speaker 3: line is this or their available receivers are that? I
[18:28] Speaker 3: think that's going to be a huge thing here, but
[18:30] Speaker 3: all things being equal, since everybody's dinged up, I'll go
[18:33] Speaker 3: with coaching excellence and defense at home.
[18:36] Speaker 1: Let's move on. Also at high noon on ESPN, it's
[18:39] Speaker 1: another ranked matchup. Number 16, Mississippi State on the road
[18:43] Speaker 1: at number 22, LSU. LSU favored by 14 points, Dan.
[18:47] Speaker 1: 14 American points here. Yeah, let's be clear. These are
[18:52] Speaker 1: domestic points. Domestic points, correct. I'm worried this is a mismatch.
[18:59] Speaker 1: I know the point spread indicates as much. There are
[19:02] Speaker 1: health questions about Camario Taylor. There are questions about what
[19:06] Speaker 1: kind of workload they can put on Fluff Bothwell. Mississippi
[19:10] Speaker 1: State needs Camario Taylor at full speed, especially against a
[19:16] Speaker 1: defense like this. It does not sound like they are
[19:19] Speaker 1: likely to have him. That is a problem.
[19:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, so he went to the tent against Mizzou a
[19:26] Speaker 3: few weeks ago now. and obviously was struggling, looked to
[19:30] Speaker 3: be struggling physically against Bama recently as well.
[19:33] Speaker 1: I want to be higher on Mississippi State. I'm not
[19:37] Speaker 1: sure I can get there. Can you talk me through
[19:40] Speaker 1: a scenario in which Mississippi State wins without Camario Taylor?
[19:44] Speaker 3: I mean, LSU is missing a number of key pieces.
[19:47] Speaker 3: LSU is increasingly trying to play pickleball on offense without
[19:50] Speaker 3: trade as green and with Sam Levitt I think still
[19:53] Speaker 3: not recovering but still getting in the the flow of
[19:56] Speaker 3: things as he gets back from hamstring issues um there
[20:01] Speaker 3: were times where the offense faded last week against Kentucky
[20:05] Speaker 3: there's also a letdown effect with how that game ended
[20:08] Speaker 3: against Kentucky, and I don't think it's nothing that LSU
[20:14] Speaker 3: has soft points on their own defense, which has been
[20:16] Speaker 3: very good, but you look at the middle of that defense,
[20:18] Speaker 3: especially a linebacker, no wit weak, speed up, like, there
[20:24] Speaker 3: are places where LSU can be had as good as
[20:27] Speaker 3: they appear to be on both sides of the ball.
[20:29] Speaker 3: I don't think LSU has that gravity on offense, especially
[20:32] Speaker 3: at receiver right now with the injuries that they have
[20:34] Speaker 3: at hand, and so when you are forced to string
[20:38] Speaker 3: together 9, 10, 11, 13 play drives more often, there's
[20:42] Speaker 3: a holding here. There's an unsupportive conduct there, right? There's
[20:46] Speaker 3: an offensive pass interference. There's just more opportunity for ticky-tack
[20:52] Speaker 3: mistakes or important mistakes. The problem is Camario Taylor's foot
[20:57] Speaker 3: is what it is.
[20:58] Speaker 1: Foot, toe, whatever.
[20:59] Speaker 3: I know there's conflicting reports on what exactly is going
[21:01] Speaker 3: on lower extremity-wise with Camario Taylor.
[21:04] Speaker 1: A lower body injury, if you want to be specific.
[21:08] Speaker 3: Um, they're led as, as great as he can be
[21:12] Speaker 3: with his arm. They are led by the rushing attack,
[21:14] Speaker 3: which he's also a major part of. And it's hard
[21:17] Speaker 3: to see it happening against LSU right now on the road.
[21:20] Speaker 1: That's a big number though. Interestingly enough, we got a
[21:23] Speaker 1: lot of pushback on keeping LSU in the top 25. Really?
[21:28] Speaker 1: We did. Yeah. We had them at 22. They ended
[21:30] Speaker 1: up at 22 in the final poll when that came out.
[21:34] Speaker 1: I'm not saying this to be mean. I think some
[21:36] Speaker 1: people have a very warped view of, of our college
[21:38] Speaker 1: football reality right now. I had a guy out there
[21:41] Speaker 1: telling me he'd rather play LSU than James Madison. We've
[21:45] Speaker 1: got some broken brains out there. To each his own. Yeah.
[21:49] Speaker 1: LSU had plenty of chances to win that game against Kentucky.
[21:51] Speaker 1: They are certainly not a perfect team. Their inability to
[21:54] Speaker 1: win that game, I think, speaks volumes that they're not
[21:59] Speaker 1: as good as I thought they were going to be. Right.
[22:02] Speaker 1: They're still a pretty good team with a good defense.
[22:05] Speaker 1: I just don't understand how Mississippi State's going to win
[22:08] Speaker 1: this game or cover the spread if they don't have
[22:11] Speaker 1: Camario Taylor.
[22:12] Speaker 3: Well, he's not going to be healthy, even if he's
[22:14] Speaker 3: out there. Either way, either way, either way. So I'm
[22:17] Speaker 3: with you. I don't think I can do it. I
[22:20] Speaker 3: think I can ride. I think was Dylan Jones the
[22:23] Speaker 3: leading receiver for LSU last week? So he's turning into
[22:27] Speaker 3: more of an all-purpose weapon, whether he should be or not,
[22:31] Speaker 3: given how good Lane Kiffin's offense has been with receivers
[22:34] Speaker 3: and tight ends over the year. But that's the reality
[22:36] Speaker 3: of the injury situation at LSU. I think I'm going
[22:39] Speaker 3: to give the points at home. I think with what
[22:42] Speaker 3: they put on display against A & M a couple
[22:44] Speaker 3: weeks ago and Mississippi State without a healthy Kamario Taylor
[22:49] Speaker 3: or healthy Fluff Bothwell, even if they're on the field,
[22:51] Speaker 3: I acknowledge, but if they're really limited, they can't run
[22:55] Speaker 3: in the same way if they have to turn to
[22:56] Speaker 3: I think it's Billy Puckett is the likely backup for
[22:59] Speaker 3: Mississippi State it's hard to see them scoring it's hard
[23:03] Speaker 3: to see them getting enough stops to keep this competitive
[23:06] Speaker 3: for four full quarters so yeah I have this as
[23:10] Speaker 3: like 35-17 LSU 35-14 LSU I think I think I
[23:18] Speaker 3: just have to go in that direction. I, if you're
[23:20] Speaker 3: going to make the case, it's going to be like, well,
[23:22] Speaker 3: it's back and forth and Jeff Levy is good offensive. I,
[23:25] Speaker 3: I don't see it. I still think there's enough on
[23:27] Speaker 3: this LSU roster to distance themselves from a beat up team.
[23:31] Speaker 1: Mississippi State's going to be an eight and four team.
[23:34] Speaker 1: An amazing story at that. An amazing story. And I'm
[23:37] Speaker 1: not even saying that to talk down to them. Given
[23:39] Speaker 1: where they came from, given expectations coming into the year,
[23:42] Speaker 1: if they finish with eight wins, even seven wins, they
[23:45] Speaker 1: go to a bowl game. Which seems likely at this point.
[23:49] Speaker 1: Incredible story. One of the best stories of the year.
[23:52] Speaker 1: Speaking personally, I think they're going to end up as
[23:54] Speaker 1: an 8-4 team. Looking at the schedule, looking at the
[23:57] Speaker 1: way this thing, I think, looks moving forward. Mark me
[24:01] Speaker 1: now for 8-4. I've got this game somewhere at like
[24:04] Speaker 1: 33-17-ish LSU. I think they're going to win going away.
[24:09] Speaker 1: I think they cover at home.
[24:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, I just, you look at some of the underlying numbers,
[24:13] Speaker 3: you watch the games, you're like, oh man, these quarterbacks
[24:15] Speaker 3: have too much time against the Mississippi State defense. And yeah,
[24:19] Speaker 3: I think Sam Levitt will eventually fill up the stat
[24:23] Speaker 3: book and be in a nice place by the end
[24:26] Speaker 3: of this one.
[24:28] Speaker 1: 3.30, ABC, number six, Alabama, minus eight and a half
[24:31] Speaker 1: on the road at number 14, Tennessee. This is a
[24:35] Speaker 1: rivalry game, Dan, yeah? It is. It absolutely is, yeah.
[24:39] Speaker 1: Big rivalry game here. What does the path to victory
[24:43] Speaker 1: look like for Tennessee?
[24:46] Speaker 3: George McIntyre got the picks out of his system last week.
[24:50] Speaker 1: Did he?
[24:50] Speaker 3: Against Arkansas. I mean, that's the path. That's the hope, right?
[24:54] Speaker 3: That he obviously has clear upside, but the mistakes are concerning.
[25:00] Speaker 3: They could have the most dominant rushing attack in the
[25:05] Speaker 3: SEC at times, and they're going against an Alabama run defense,
[25:08] Speaker 3: which has not been super secure this year.
[25:12] Speaker 1: Yes.
[25:12] Speaker 3: Georgia was able to run and that's with backup running backs.
[25:15] Speaker 3: And there was no, correct me if I'm wrong. You
[25:17] Speaker 3: can fact check me. Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens were
[25:19] Speaker 3: not factors against Alabama.
[25:21] Speaker 2: Correct. No, that's correct.
[25:23] Speaker 3: That was Bo Walker and Dwight Phillips doing the majority
[25:26] Speaker 3: of that heavy lifting.
[25:27] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:27] Speaker 1: And Gunnar Stockton. Yeah.
[25:29] Speaker 3: And so if Tennessee can run and Tennessee can limit mistakes,
[25:33] Speaker 3: Tennessee's defense has been, I think for the most part, good.
[25:39] Speaker 1: That's not, that's not crazy to say.
[25:41] Speaker 3: No, I mean, I'm just telling you, if you can
[25:43] Speaker 3: run and play defense and you're playing at home, that's
[25:45] Speaker 3: not a crazy path.
[25:47] Speaker 1: I think the path to victory involves frustrating Keelan Russell
[25:50] Speaker 1: the way that Georgia did last week. And I think
[25:53] Speaker 1: they can probably do it to an extent, if I'm
[25:56] Speaker 1: being honest. To an extent. This is the number 18
[25:59] Speaker 1: defense in terms of pressure rate. They're the best in
[26:03] Speaker 1: the nation in terms of sacks per drop back. They
[26:05] Speaker 1: were very good against Texas when they played a couple
[26:08] Speaker 1: weeks ago. That might not be the best comp at
[26:10] Speaker 1: this point in time comparing Texas to Alabama, but that
[26:14] Speaker 1: being said, yeah, they've been pretty good at getting after
[26:17] Speaker 1: the quarterback. I guess my biggest question is if you
[26:21] Speaker 1: can do that and if you can somehow frustrate Keelan
[26:25] Speaker 1: Russell and the Alabama offense, then what for Tennessee? Because
[26:29] Speaker 1: you've got to score points. I have not been impressed
[26:32] Speaker 1: thus far by the George McIntyre experience. The three turnovers...
[26:37] Speaker 1: last week against Arkansas were concerning. That was a game
[26:40] Speaker 1: going into the fourth quarter. It was a game. If
[26:42] Speaker 1: memory serves, yeah. It was a game. They played it
[26:44] Speaker 1: pretty conservative with him in his first start, which is understandable.
[26:48] Speaker 1: It was on the road. They're just, they got to
[26:51] Speaker 1: take some shots downfield earlier in this game against Bama. Otherwise,
[26:56] Speaker 1: it's not going to work. If Bama can start loading
[26:59] Speaker 1: the box, if there's no threat of anyone running by them,
[27:02] Speaker 1: and if it seems apparent that they're again going to
[27:04] Speaker 1: play conservatively, I don't look for much out of the
[27:07] Speaker 1: Tennessee offense. That's what I'm worried about here.
[27:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, you're going to load the box and force George
[27:13] Speaker 3: McIntyre to beat you.
[27:14] Speaker 1: And to that point, exactly, through six weeks of this season,
[27:19] Speaker 1: what shows up on paper is if you're going to
[27:21] Speaker 1: try to attack Alabama, do it through the air because
[27:25] Speaker 1: one out of every five passes goes for more than
[27:26] Speaker 1: 20 yards, which is pretty low on the scale relative
[27:30] Speaker 1: to other FBS teams. It's a good defense. It's a
[27:32] Speaker 1: good team. but that's a thing. Tennessee's going to have
[27:36] Speaker 1: to do that. They absolutely are going to have to
[27:38] Speaker 1: do that. And I would suspect that they're going to
[27:39] Speaker 1: have to try it early. Otherwise, I don't think they've
[27:41] Speaker 1: got any shot of covering the spread of keeping this close.
[27:45] Speaker 1: Now also potential letdown spot for Alabama. Absolutely. Right. Big
[27:51] Speaker 1: game a week ago against Georgia. That one was within grasp.
[27:54] Speaker 1: They lost it still very much in the hunt, very
[27:57] Speaker 1: much in the conversation. It's a good team, but I,
[28:01] Speaker 1: There's got to be a little bit of a letdown,
[28:02] Speaker 1: I would say. Ryan Coleman Williams seems unlikely to play
[28:06] Speaker 1: in this matchup. I feel like if I trusted George
[28:09] Speaker 1: McIntyre a little bit more, I might be on the
[28:13] Speaker 1: points here just one week after a Georgia game, you know? Agree.
[28:19] Speaker 1: And I do think he gives him a higher floor,
[28:21] Speaker 1: maybe not quite as high a ceiling, but certainly a
[28:23] Speaker 1: higher floor than Faison Brandon. He just is a quicker processor.
[28:27] Speaker 1: He's good at getting the ball out in time. There's
[28:28] Speaker 1: a lot that he does better with his game that I,
[28:31] Speaker 1: that I like, but can they protect him? Can they
[28:36] Speaker 1: find a way to stretch Alabama? I'm just, I'm like
[28:39] Speaker 1: not confident in that at all. So I've got it
[28:41] Speaker 1: at 31, 21, Alabama. I have Tennessee winning. Oh, okay. Wow. Again,
[28:48] Speaker 1: we go back to the flag. Wow.
[28:52] Speaker 3: Tough defense outright at home.
[28:56] Speaker 1: As an underdog. Against an opponent.
[28:59] Speaker 3: Whose game of the year thus far was last week
[29:05] Speaker 3: in a storm that came down to it, and they lose.
[29:10] Speaker 3: I'm not saying Alabama won't be up for this game.
[29:11] Speaker 3: They're also down their biggest playmaker on the outside, yes?
[29:15] Speaker 3: Keelan Russell's most, I don't know if dependable is the
[29:17] Speaker 3: right word, but most electric option at receiver, Ryan Coleman-Williams. Again,
[29:25] Speaker 3: I'm not terribly confident in George McIntyre But enough here
[29:31] Speaker 3: is telling me this is the type of game that Tennessee,
[29:37] Speaker 3: provided they don't get like the Dylan Raiola version of
[29:39] Speaker 3: George McIntosh.
[29:40] Speaker 1: Oh, God.
[29:42] Speaker 3: This is going to be the toughest road environment of
[29:45] Speaker 3: Keelan Russell's young career. All due respect to Mississippi State
[29:48] Speaker 3: and Starkville. I think road environment plus defense is what
[29:52] Speaker 3: I'm saying here. So I think Tennessee wins this one.
[29:55] Speaker 3: I think Tennessee wins 24-21.
[29:59] Speaker 1: Man.
[29:59] Speaker 3: I don't know if we get, you know, another punt
[30:03] Speaker 3: return touchdown. I think we get some kind of short
[30:05] Speaker 3: field for Tennessee to get that 24 number, if not
[30:08] Speaker 3: like a pick six or something. I think Keelan Russell
[30:11] Speaker 3: is of Heisman caliber. This is not a commentary on
[30:13] Speaker 3: Alabama's ceiling here. I just think the spot is nice
[30:18] Speaker 3: for Tennessee.
[30:19] Speaker 1: It is a nice spot for Tennessee. I'll give you that.
[30:22] Speaker 3: I just, The vibes, the spot, the certain realities of
[30:26] Speaker 3: Alabama health-wise. I think Terrence Green is also hurt, who's
[30:28] Speaker 3: been a big deal in the middle of that defensive line.
[30:30] Speaker 3: I like Tennessee, who's got their own injury issues, obviously.
[30:36] Speaker 3: But I think quarterback is also a developmental position.
[30:38] Speaker 1: I can't get there. I can't get there with this one.
[30:42] Speaker 1: I'm going Tennessee. That's a spicy pick. All right. Stay
[30:47] Speaker 1: in the SEC. Let's go over to the SEC Network 330.
[30:51] Speaker 1: Number 13, Mizzou on the road at number nine. Ole
[30:54] Speaker 1: Miss Ole Miss favored by three points at home. Can
[30:56] Speaker 1: I ask a real quick question about Mizzou? I would
[30:58] Speaker 1: love to hear it. Before we really get into throws here. Yes.
[31:00] Speaker 1: Best win was against Florida.
[31:02] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[31:03] Speaker 1: I mean, look, we don't know. Well, we don't know.
[31:06] Speaker 3: Because I was told Florida was like, it was an
[31:08] Speaker 3: insult to put Florida at number eight or whatever they
[31:12] Speaker 3: ended up in in the AP.
[31:13] Speaker 1: What are these voters thinking? What? Malpractice? They're unranked. Like
[31:19] Speaker 1: an hour and a half later. So maybe. Best win,
[31:23] Speaker 1: I think, was against Florida. They destroyed Florida 45-17. The
[31:27] Speaker 1: next best win, probably A & M, 27-6 last week. Unclear.
[31:34] Speaker 1: Both those games were at home. Their only loss was
[31:37] Speaker 1: on the road to Mississippi State, a game that they
[31:39] Speaker 1: could have won but didn't. For Mizzou to win this game,
[31:44] Speaker 1: we are essentially saying, yes, they are a top 10
[31:46] Speaker 1: caliber team, we think. At this point. We think. So
[31:50] Speaker 1: how confident are you that Mizzou is actually that good?
[31:55] Speaker 1: Pretty confident.
[31:56] Speaker 3: Able to win through injuries on defense, able to take
[32:00] Speaker 3: advantage of flawed teams, able to immediately have a decent
[32:04] Speaker 3: amount of success with a brand new portal quarterback and
[32:08] Speaker 3: succeed on offense without the clear MVP of this offensive
[32:11] Speaker 3: roster and Ahmad Hardy not playing.
[32:14] Speaker 1: Right. Right.
[32:15] Speaker 3: So playing through the changes, Oh, completely starting over on
[32:18] Speaker 3: defense in terms of what the two deep look like. Um,
[32:22] Speaker 3: and being able to, we don't know what they look
[32:24] Speaker 3: like against the best of the conference against the best
[32:26] Speaker 3: of the country, but I am confident that they are
[32:29] Speaker 3: of ranked quality of clear ranked quality.
[32:33] Speaker 1: I am worried that this is a battle of two mirages. Okay.
[32:39] Speaker 1: And you know, we've had these conversations the last couple
[32:41] Speaker 1: of weeks. Um, specifically with where we're ranking Ole Miss,
[32:47] Speaker 1: are we ranking them too high? Mm-hmm. You know I
[32:50] Speaker 1: wasn't sold on Mizzou at the start of the year.
[32:52] Speaker 1: I've come around to Mizzou. I've had no choice but
[32:54] Speaker 1: to come around to Mizzou. Yeah. So that concerns me.
[33:00] Speaker 1: I'm primarily looking at Mizzou's rushing attack in this game, though,
[33:04] Speaker 1: because the recent production from Jamal Roberts has been impressive,
[33:09] Speaker 1: but still their success rates as a rushing team are
[33:13] Speaker 1: very low. They will have an opportunity here against Ole Miss,
[33:18] Speaker 1: which is not great against the run by that same metric.
[33:23] Speaker 1: And I think they are going to need to get
[33:25] Speaker 1: it going on the ground if they want to win
[33:26] Speaker 1: this game. Though they can score, I do not like
[33:30] Speaker 1: the idea of them getting into a track meet where
[33:33] Speaker 1: everyone is throwing the ball 50 times against Trinidad Chambliss.
[33:36] Speaker 1: I think Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss win in that case.
[33:40] Speaker 1: So I think it's imperative on the Mizzou side that
[33:42] Speaker 1: they find a way to get that ground game going
[33:45] Speaker 1: and be a little bit more consistent again production aside
[33:48] Speaker 1: these last couple weeks for jamal roberts has been very
[33:50] Speaker 1: very good just saying as a team the statistics point
[33:54] Speaker 1: to the fact that they are not that successful on
[33:56] Speaker 1: the ground.
[33:57] Speaker 3: I think he's gotten better all right i agree with
[34:00] Speaker 3: that i think the full season statistics are not representative
[34:03] Speaker 3: of recent performance i'm just looking at the spreadsheet man
[34:06] Speaker 3: i know i know games are played on grass The
[34:09] Speaker 3: other thing that I would call out, there's, I think,
[34:11] Speaker 3: a bit of a misnomer on the Ole Miss side
[34:14] Speaker 3: of things.
[34:15] Speaker 1: This actually is not a very explosive offense. You know,
[34:18] Speaker 1: if you say Ole Miss to somebody out there, given
[34:20] Speaker 1: what we've seen these last few years with Lane Kiffin
[34:23] Speaker 1: and Charlie Weiss Jr. running the show, you tend to
[34:25] Speaker 1: think of explosion first with Ole Miss. They haven't really
[34:29] Speaker 1: gotten there yet. They're clearly a top 10 team or
[34:32] Speaker 1: ranked as such at this point. But Not only are
[34:35] Speaker 1: they not generating a ton of big plays, they're also
[34:38] Speaker 1: giving up a fair amount of big plays, which I
[34:40] Speaker 1: think could be an issue against Mizzou because Mizzou has
[34:44] Speaker 1: been a fairly explosive offense, which again could be a
[34:46] Speaker 1: bit of a misnomer if you're not watching these games.
[34:50] Speaker 1: So I think this is a fun game. I'm super
[34:53] Speaker 1: pumped for this one. I've got it at 38-30 in
[34:57] Speaker 1: favor of Mizzou. I like them outright. I came into
[35:00] Speaker 1: this one thinking that I was definitely taking Ole Miss,
[35:04] Speaker 1: and then I looked. And I looked and I probably
[35:06] Speaker 1: overthought it, as I am wont to do. Their defense
[35:10] Speaker 1: is better. It's a good matchup for their offense. Maybe
[35:14] Speaker 1: there's a little bit of extra motivation for Austin Simmons
[35:17] Speaker 1: going back to Oxford, try and get one over on
[35:20] Speaker 1: his former team. I am very slowly becoming a Mizzou believer.
[35:24] Speaker 1: And Caden Lee. And Caden Lee, right. Yeah. Very slowly
[35:28] Speaker 1: becoming a Mizzou believer. So I'm on 38-30 for them
[35:32] Speaker 1: to go on the road to win in Oxford. 31-28
[35:33] Speaker 1: Mizzou here. um, the worst thing in this game. And
[35:37] Speaker 1: it's hard to say that it's definitely the Ole Miss defense,
[35:40] Speaker 1: just in terms of the offenses that they've played that
[35:43] Speaker 1: represent the, the defensive numbers, right? It's a good Louisville offense.
[35:48] Speaker 1: It's a good LSU offense. It's a good, I'm totally
[35:51] Speaker 1: blanking in this mode, Florida, Florida. Yeah. Florida is a
[35:54] Speaker 1: good offense. Okay. So I don't know.
[35:56] Speaker 3: That's 60% of their schedule at this point. So, uh,
[36:01] Speaker 3: I think Ole Miss' defense is not as bad as
[36:03] Speaker 3: it looks at times on paper. And I just... There's
[36:10] Speaker 3: something more dependable about Mizzou on both sides of the
[36:13] Speaker 3: ball to me.
[36:13] Speaker 1: Okay. They don't go three and out like ever. No.
[36:17] Speaker 1: Which I appreciate. I think Chip Lindsey has called a
[36:19] Speaker 1: good offense this year.
[36:20] Speaker 3: I hope it sticks. It doesn't always with Chip Lindsey teams.
[36:23] Speaker 2: But.
[36:24] Speaker 3: I think there's something more dependable right now about Mizzou.
[36:28] Speaker 3: And Kiwan Lacy, we'll see on his health.
[36:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[36:30] Speaker 3: They look different when he's not, you know, at full go,
[36:33] Speaker 3: even if he's on the field.
[36:35] Speaker 1: So... I don't know.
[36:36] Speaker 3: Too many questions right now. If it's defense and running
[36:38] Speaker 3: are an open question with Ole Miss. I think Mizzou
[36:41] Speaker 3: is just checking more boxes. So Mizzou takes this one
[36:44] Speaker 3: on the road. 31-28 and a fun back.
[36:46] Speaker 1: We agree. We agree. Let's go to the night slate here. Yeah.
[36:50] Speaker 2: That is food in great quantity.
[36:54] Speaker 1: Just making sure. Don't forget. 730 ABC, it's number two,
[37:00] Speaker 1: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, minus 10.5 points on the
[37:03] Speaker 1: road at number eight, BYU. Did you know this will
[37:08] Speaker 1: be the first matchup ever in the history of Lavelle
[37:13] Speaker 1: Edwards Stadium, even if you want to go back to
[37:16] Speaker 1: Cougar Stadium before it? Okay. The first ever matchup in
[37:21] Speaker 1: this stadium between two AP top 10 teams. Ooh, I
[37:26] Speaker 1: did not know that. Ever. Also, on a personal note,
[37:33] Speaker 1: this is Notre Dame's first trip to BYU since they
[37:35] Speaker 1: lost back in 2004, 20-17. I have told the story
[37:41] Speaker 1: time and again over the years. I was watching this
[37:44] Speaker 1: game while drunk in the middle of the Rathskeller up
[37:47] Speaker 1: on Penn State, along College Avenue at Penn State. Okay.
[37:51] Speaker 1: And immediately after the game, I jumped up into the
[37:54] Speaker 1: air and I spiked my LG flip phone. Oh, this
[37:57] Speaker 1: is that game. Which was blown to smithereens and scattered
[38:01] Speaker 1: throughout a beer soaked floor.
[38:05] Speaker 3: So how much did that game cost you in terms
[38:07] Speaker 3: of just replacing your beautiful LG phone?
[38:10] Speaker 1: Well, in terms of the beer and the mixed drinks,
[38:14] Speaker 1: not that much. It was a college bar. Yeah. In
[38:16] Speaker 1: terms of replacing the phone. Yeah. A couple hundred bucks. Yeah. Oh, oh, oh.
[38:22] Speaker 1: It's a lot. It's a lot for a college kid.
[38:25] Speaker 2: Is that me?
[38:25] Speaker 1: Who was, what is that? Yeah, yeah, that is, that's,
[38:27] Speaker 1: that's Ty. Oh, oh, oh. I don't like that you're
[38:30] Speaker 1: doing this now. This is not good for me.
[38:32] Speaker 2: Whatever.
[38:36] Speaker 3: Slowly but surely, my soundboard is going to be all
[38:38] Speaker 3: just Ty saying things on a show featuring Ty.
[38:42] Speaker 1: So look, I got baggage with this matchup. I do.
[38:46] Speaker 1: I really do. I am excited about this game, though.
[38:49] Speaker 1: I'm excited we get to talk about Notre Dame playing
[38:53] Speaker 1: a top 10 caliber team. I'm excited we get to
[38:54] Speaker 1: talk about BYU being tested by a team like Notre
[38:58] Speaker 1: Dame coming to Provo. I have a lot to say
[39:01] Speaker 1: on this matchup, as you might expect. Where are you
[39:04] Speaker 1: at here?
[39:06] Speaker 3: Man, my big question is, what does this matchup mean
[39:08] Speaker 3: for the SEC? Sorry, I'm just auditioning for a number
[39:11] Speaker 3: of ESPN shows, and I just had to get that
[39:14] Speaker 3: out of my system.
[39:15] Speaker 1: I want that on tape. Um....
[39:17] Speaker 3: This should be great. I mean, I really wish LJ
[39:20] Speaker 3: Martin were healthy. He's not playing in this game. I
[39:22] Speaker 3: think the wording was no chance or something like that
[39:24] Speaker 3: from Kalani Sataki. So once again, that takes the explosion away.
[39:30] Speaker 3: and dynamic elements out of the the byu offense to
[39:34] Speaker 3: some degree you need to score against this notre dame
[39:38] Speaker 3: team and it's very difficult to do so uh no
[39:42] Speaker 3: matter where you're playing this game you're playing on the
[39:43] Speaker 3: moon you're playing in south bend you're playing in the
[39:45] Speaker 3: most difficult you know stadium in college football It'll be
[39:50] Speaker 3: very difficult when CJ Carr is throwing the ball downfield
[39:53] Speaker 3: like he's throwing it, and not even to, like, incredible receivers.
[39:58] Speaker 3: But he is that accurate. He is that much of
[40:01] Speaker 3: a playmaker. They have figured out what they want to
[40:04] Speaker 3: be on the ground, even if they're not where they
[40:06] Speaker 3: were talent-wise where they were last year with Jeremiah Love
[40:08] Speaker 3: and Darian Price. They figured out offensive line, it seems.
[40:13] Speaker 3: I know they're beat up, I think, more on defense, yes?
[40:15] Speaker 3: Or at least they were last week against Stanford.
[40:17] Speaker 1: Sure. which is a feather in BYU's cap.
[40:20] Speaker 3: My problem is when I look at the BYU offense
[40:23] Speaker 3: without LJ Martin and you're like, okay, is it going
[40:25] Speaker 3: to be bear Bachmeier.
[40:26] Speaker 1: Leading the way on your ground?
[40:27] Speaker 3: Can you bear Bachmeier your running game to a win
[40:30] Speaker 3: against the Notre Dame defense?
[40:31] Speaker 1: I wrote down that exact same line. Can you bear
[40:34] Speaker 1: Bachmeier your way to a win against the Notre Dame running? Well,
[40:37] Speaker 1: I'm saying specifically on the ground. Yeah. Right.
[40:39] Speaker 3: If there is no LJ Martin and there will not
[40:41] Speaker 3: be LJ Martin reportedly, uh, I don't love where BYU
[40:45] Speaker 3: is in terms of gravitational receiving options. I just don't
[40:49] Speaker 3: think there's that. I mean, legend Glasgow is good, but like,
[40:53] Speaker 3: is this passing offense overwhelming in a way that you
[40:56] Speaker 3: can beat Notre Dame at home? It's not obviously yes.
[41:00] Speaker 3: You know, maybe there's an elixir and, you know, fairy
[41:03] Speaker 3: dust that happens way up high altitude wise on, on
[41:07] Speaker 3: Saturday night. That to me is, the biggest question is like,
[41:11] Speaker 3: you probably need to score like 27 points to beat
[41:14] Speaker 3: Notre Dame just because there's enough pop there and they're
[41:16] Speaker 3: going to get enough stops to give their offense time.
[41:19] Speaker 3: I just, I'm not there that BYU is going to
[41:22] Speaker 3: be flirting with scoring 30 points against this Notre Dame team.
[41:25] Speaker 3: I have questions about Notre Dame still because we haven't
[41:28] Speaker 3: seen them against a team as talented and a team
[41:32] Speaker 3: with as much upside as BYU. And so we see
[41:34] Speaker 3: these scores of them like murdering Stanford or, or it
[41:37] Speaker 3: was reasonably close against North Carolina in a storm. But
[41:42] Speaker 3: that to me is the question is like, what does
[41:43] Speaker 3: Notre Dame look like when the competition actually gets fierce?
[41:45] Speaker 3: Because we're just going to have limited episodes of that
[41:48] Speaker 3: TV show.
[41:49] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[41:50] Speaker 1: And I think because of that, you will see some
[41:53] Speaker 1: early success from BYU. Okay. I have noticed that with
[41:57] Speaker 1: Chris Ashe running the defense, sometimes for whatever reason, and
[42:00] Speaker 1: we kind of saw this, by the way, against Wisconsin
[42:02] Speaker 1: last Sometimes it just takes a little bit for the
[42:05] Speaker 1: defense to settle in. Eventually they find their groove. They
[42:08] Speaker 1: win going away, but it takes a minute.
[42:10] Speaker 3: That was also week one at Lambeau. I mean, that's just,
[42:12] Speaker 3: I'm willing to wave off that specific stretch.
[42:15] Speaker 1: But my problem is the same as yours. I don't
[42:17] Speaker 1: think they can bear Bachmeier their way to a win.
[42:19] Speaker 1: It absolutely sucks that LJ Martin is out. If he
[42:22] Speaker 1: were available, I think it would have changed the calculus
[42:25] Speaker 1: to a degree. And that's not to say that bear
[42:27] Speaker 1: Bachmeier hasn't improved as a passer. I feel like he
[42:30] Speaker 1: has much better command of what he's doing out there.
[42:33] Speaker 1: Right now, they've got a top 20 offense. Right now,
[42:36] Speaker 1: it works primarily because of that run. And so when
[42:40] Speaker 1: we look at this matchup, Notre Dame's defense is good
[42:42] Speaker 1: enough to keep that part in check over 60 minutes.
[42:44] Speaker 1: They're not going to take it all the way down
[42:46] Speaker 1: to zero. Right. But keep it in check. Avoid being
[42:50] Speaker 1: killed by the BYU ground attack. Yeah, I think they're
[42:52] Speaker 1: good enough to do that. And again, BYU will sort
[42:55] Speaker 1: of put up some numbers. They're not going to get
[42:57] Speaker 1: completely shut out here. Aaron Roderick, their offensive coordinator, I
[43:00] Speaker 1: like him. I know sometimes there are mixed reviews on
[43:03] Speaker 1: Aaron Roderick, but I think he's creative. I think he
[43:05] Speaker 1: constantly finds ways to put guys in position to succeed.
[43:09] Speaker 1: It doesn't always look the same from week to week.
[43:11] Speaker 1: They're very good at using the personnel they have at hand. Yeah.
[43:14] Speaker 1: I like what they've built there. I just don't know
[43:16] Speaker 1: if they've got the horses to go up against Notre
[43:18] Speaker 1: Dame's defense for 60 minutes, do it successfully on the
[43:24] Speaker 1: ground enough that you have to make this defense worry
[43:27] Speaker 1: about someone running past you. which is not something that
[43:30] Speaker 1: I look at this roster and I see right away
[43:34] Speaker 1: on the BYU side of things.
[43:35] Speaker 3: Did you take into consideration what they look like against
[43:37] Speaker 3: Texas Tech last year when the competition?
[43:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit.
[43:40] Speaker 3: And it's not fully fair because different year, different team,
[43:43] Speaker 3: and I don't think either one of those games was
[43:45] Speaker 3: in Provo.
[43:46] Speaker 1: I think that's.
[43:47] Speaker 3: Definitely an item to consider in any BYU matchup, playing
[43:51] Speaker 3: at home in front of a frenzied crowd, especially that
[43:53] Speaker 3: this is, as you mentioned, this is the game of
[43:55] Speaker 3: the century of the century.
[43:56] Speaker 1: I mean, it's incredible. It's an incredible matchup. I'm glad
[43:58] Speaker 1: we get it. Yeah, I'm glad we get it. It'll
[44:01] Speaker 1: tell us a lot about both teams. And I think
[44:04] Speaker 1: BYU's physicality will be evident. But to your point, yeah,
[44:08] Speaker 1: I fear this game is going to be a little
[44:10] Speaker 1: bit like we saw last year against Texas Tech, where
[44:12] Speaker 1: they just didn't have the manpower to get it over
[44:15] Speaker 1: the hump. So I'm on the Notre Dame side of
[44:18] Speaker 1: this one. I am curious to see how the Notre
[44:21] Speaker 1: Dame ground attack, this new and improved ground attack, looks
[44:24] Speaker 1: against a real defense team. They've run for 241 and
[44:29] Speaker 1: 361 their last two games. Jonas Walton, the freshman, my guy,
[44:34] Speaker 1: baby Jadarian Price, as it were, basically the lead back now.
[44:38] Speaker 1: But they've also got Nolan James Jr. They've got Aeneas Williams,
[44:41] Speaker 1: both of whom they have rotated in and used, I think,
[44:44] Speaker 1: to great effect. Thus far, they're very dangerous compliments, if
[44:47] Speaker 1: nothing more. BYU is extremely physical. I am not expecting
[44:52] Speaker 1: them to give up 300 yards on the ground, but no,
[44:55] Speaker 1: I think the threat, the threat of a Notre Dame
[44:58] Speaker 1: ground attack is enough that at least early Notre Dame
[45:01] Speaker 1: is going to take some shots. Like I'm fully expecting
[45:04] Speaker 1: Notre Dame is going to come out there. They're opening
[45:06] Speaker 1: offensive possession and they're going to throw a bomb or
[45:08] Speaker 1: two down the sidelines just because the threat of the
[45:11] Speaker 1: ground attack is there now, whereas it wasn't to start
[45:14] Speaker 1: the season. So, um, I think there'll be some fireworks and,
[45:19] Speaker 1: I think it's going to be an interesting chess match
[45:21] Speaker 1: in the trenches. I'm curious to see what both ground
[45:23] Speaker 1: attacks look like in this one. I just think BYU
[45:26] Speaker 1: is a little too limited. And the ways that they
[45:29] Speaker 1: can score points against this Notre Dame defense are pretty
[45:35] Speaker 1: well known. Telegraphed. Okay. In a sense. They will also
[45:40] Speaker 1: likely be playing from behind for a chunk of this one.
[45:43] Speaker 1: And I'm not sure that this is a team necessarily
[45:45] Speaker 1: built to come from 10 to 14 points down if
[45:49] Speaker 1: that's how it ends up going. So I've got it
[45:50] Speaker 1: at 30 to 14. I don't think it's like a
[45:52] Speaker 1: blowout or anything like that, but I think it's a
[45:56] Speaker 1: mostly good game that Notre Dame, kind of like they
[45:59] Speaker 1: did against Wisconsin, they're able to assert themselves late. They're
[46:02] Speaker 1: able to ground and pound late. They're able to add
[46:04] Speaker 1: on a late touchdown or field goal to make this
[46:06] Speaker 1: one look like it's a little bit more out of hand. Okay.
[46:10] Speaker 1: I think Notre Dame wins this game. BYU home dog
[46:13] Speaker 1: of the week. I don't even have the sound ready.
[46:18] Speaker 1: I wasn't ready for that. Home dog of the week.
[46:21] Speaker 3: This is actually like a really nice Samoyed Saturday if
[46:24] Speaker 3: we were going to go in that direction.
[46:25] Speaker 1: The Yakuza. Home dog of the week. So.
[46:35] Speaker 2: Explain.
[46:36] Speaker 3: With as limited as I think the fireworks will be
[46:38] Speaker 3: for BYU. They're so good on third down. They're playing
[46:43] Speaker 3: at home as a good defense, as an underdog, against
[46:46] Speaker 3: a team who has not played a high level of
[46:48] Speaker 3: competition at night, at altitude. It just checks too many boxes.
[46:53] Speaker 3: 24-21 Notre Dame. I ultimately don't think BYU has the
[46:57] Speaker 3: pop to get to the 30-point threshold. But look what
[47:02] Speaker 3: Iowa State was able to do before they played BYU.
[47:05] Speaker 3: They go to Provo, silenced. Not that Iowa State's offense
[47:08] Speaker 3: is in any way comparable to Notre Dame, but this
[47:10] Speaker 3: is a good defense. I don't know if it's an
[47:11] Speaker 3: excellent defense. It's a good defense for BYU. They make plays.
[47:15] Speaker 1: It's a good defense, yeah.
[47:16] Speaker 3: With LJ Martin, it's the number one most successful rushing
[47:20] Speaker 3: attack in terms of success rate. Now, again, that's the caveat.
[47:24] Speaker 3: But I think BYU can ugly this one up enough
[47:28] Speaker 3: and slow it down enough. There are enough boxes to
[47:32] Speaker 3: check that they keep it tight enough But Notre Dame ultimately,
[47:36] Speaker 3: I mean, Notre Dame's without, they could be without Leonard Moore, right?
[47:39] Speaker 1: Right.
[47:41] Speaker 3: I'm going with BYU to keep this close enough.
[47:44] Speaker 1: Home dog of the week. Man, if it's 24-21, I'm
[47:46] Speaker 1: going to be breathing into a paper bag.
[47:49] Speaker 3: Look, I think Notre Dame players could be breathing into
[47:51] Speaker 3: a paper bag. They got to do their breath work
[47:53] Speaker 3: during the game and they'll be fine. Can you imagine like, oh,
[47:56] Speaker 3: hold on, the play's over.
[48:00] Speaker 1: It's tough. Altitude's tough. All right. All right, that's all.
[48:06] Speaker 1: So listen, here is the deal. You are playing run
[48:10] Speaker 1: the board this week for a $ 500 Home Depot gift
[48:13] Speaker 1: card from our friends out there at Newegg. We talked
[48:18] Speaker 1: about this a little bit last week. We are very
[48:20] Speaker 1: excited to have Newegg on board with us. It is
[48:23] Speaker 1: a pleasure being so you and I have been Newegg
[48:26] Speaker 1: customers for a while now. Newegg has stepped up to
[48:30] Speaker 1: bat here and they are helping supply us with gift
[48:34] Speaker 1: cards for all of our weeks of Run the Board.
[48:36] Speaker 1: Very kind of them. You probably know Newegg because of
[48:40] Speaker 1: the computers and the tech. They've got a lot more
[48:45] Speaker 1: than just that, whether it's home products, gaming gear, appliances, electronics,
[48:52] Speaker 1: even gift cards, like the one we're about to give
[48:54] Speaker 1: out here. Whatever you are into, we would encourage you
[48:57] Speaker 1: going out to Newegg.com. Check out their selection. There's a
[49:02] Speaker 1: lot more there than you might've expected. If you were
[49:05] Speaker 1: a previous customer, it certainly caught me by surprise. And
[49:08] Speaker 1: if you play and run the board, you get a
[49:09] Speaker 1: chance to win this $ 500 gift card. Oh, by the way,
[49:13] Speaker 1: you can sign up for a free trial to get
[49:16] Speaker 1: in on the game now. I believe on our last episode,
[49:19] Speaker 1: I said, this is going to be a monster week,
[49:21] Speaker 1: 17 games. Mm-hmm. It turns out that adding 17 games
[49:25] Speaker 1: to my portal would have broken the portal. Oh, no.
[49:29] Speaker 1: Which we didn't want to do on such a big week.
[49:30] Speaker 1: So where are we now? On a Serengeti Saturday. I know.
[49:33] Speaker 1: I don't want to break the thing. So we pulled
[49:36] Speaker 1: it back down to 12, right back where we started.
[49:40] Speaker 1: but it is still a monster week. Would encourage everybody
[49:44] Speaker 1: to go on out to verballers.com and learn a little
[49:46] Speaker 1: bit more about how you can get that free trial,
[49:48] Speaker 1: how you can get it in our run the board
[49:49] Speaker 1: pick up game. Not Samoyed Saturday, but kind of could be.
[49:54] Speaker 3: With what? Indiana, Tennessee, BYU. Interesting home dogs.
[50:02] Speaker 1: 730 on Fox, number 18, Oklahoma State. On the road
[50:05] Speaker 1: at number 20, Houston. Houston favored by four and one
[50:08] Speaker 1: half points. I love Love Oklahoma State. I also think
[50:13] Speaker 1: that Houston's been flying a bit under the radar, Dan.
[50:15] Speaker 1: You're beautiful, beautiful Cougars. I absolutely agree. I think this
[50:19] Speaker 1: should be a fun matchup. We got two contrasting styles.
[50:22] Speaker 1: We got Oklahoma State that I think can throw. We've
[50:24] Speaker 1: got Houston that I think would prefer to run. To me,
[50:28] Speaker 1: this one comes down to the fact that Houston does
[50:31] Speaker 1: some of the little things better. They're much better at
[50:35] Speaker 1: winning field position. They're the best team in the nation
[50:37] Speaker 1: on third downs. They've been really solid in the red zone.
[50:42] Speaker 1: My sense is that they're able to assert control on
[50:45] Speaker 1: the ground. They're able to push Oklahoma State around. It
[50:49] Speaker 1: wouldn't surprise me if we're talking about a game on
[50:51] Speaker 1: Saturday night where Houston ran for, say, 250 yards. I
[50:56] Speaker 1: think there's an opportunity here for this one to turn
[50:58] Speaker 1: into something of a shootout or a track meet. But
[51:01] Speaker 1: I ultimately favor Houston. I think Houston's the better team.
[51:04] Speaker 1: I think they've got more of a veteran presence. I
[51:07] Speaker 1: think we'll get a professional effort out of a Willie
[51:09] Speaker 1: Fritz team in a big game. There is an opportunity
[51:13] Speaker 1: here also for them to be in a look ahead spot,
[51:16] Speaker 1: given that they've got a big one against Utah on deck,
[51:21] Speaker 1: but I expect that we're going to get a nice
[51:22] Speaker 1: effort here out of Houston. So I'm going to lay
[51:24] Speaker 1: the points, but just barely. The story that I've told
[51:28] Speaker 1: myself is that Houston wins and covers 29 to 24
[51:32] Speaker 1: and after a failed two-point conversion trying to get it
[51:36] Speaker 1: to 31. Oh, okay. I like that. The full story
[51:41] Speaker 1: arc here. I like that. For the footballerhood.
[51:43] Speaker 3: I'm taking Houston as well. I think they win this
[51:45] Speaker 3: one by a touchdown. Ultimately, I think it is the
[51:48] Speaker 3: Houston defense at home.
[51:50] Speaker 1: It's at night. What time is kickoff here? 7.30 on Fox. Yeah,
[51:54] Speaker 1: 7.30 on Fox. I think it's the defense. I think
[51:58] Speaker 1: it's the running.
[51:58] Speaker 3: I think Oklahoma State has flown a little bit too
[52:01] Speaker 3: close to the sun recently with UCF and, what was it,
[52:04] Speaker 3: West Virginia a couple weeks ago. I don't think the
[52:06] Speaker 3: defense is where it will eventually be in Stillwater. So
[52:10] Speaker 3: on the road against Houston, I think I'm just going
[52:15] Speaker 3: Houston here. We talk sometimes about like, oh, this team is,
[52:18] Speaker 3: you know, incredible passing team and this team has an
[52:20] Speaker 3: incredible secondary and pass rush defending it, right? It's the
[52:23] Speaker 3: strength on strength. It's the like, oh, this team is
[52:26] Speaker 3: vulnerable here, but this team is excellent there. Houston is
[52:31] Speaker 3: bad in the red area on defense. Oklahoma State is
[52:35] Speaker 3: bad in the red area on offense. We get a fun,
[52:38] Speaker 3: weird little weakness versus weakness. I believe, if I'm looking
[52:41] Speaker 3: at this correctly, and I've watched correctly, that when Oklahoma
[52:45] Speaker 3: State has the ball closer to the Houston goal line,
[52:50] Speaker 3: who actually steps up and makes a play?
[52:53] Speaker 1: That could be interesting to me. Okay, so I do
[52:54] Speaker 1: have Houston winning this one 34-27. You want to do
[52:58] Speaker 1: some quads? Let's do it. My question to you is
[53:02] Speaker 1: how bad do you really want legs? We're going to
[53:06] Speaker 1: go through, Dan. We're going to talk through four games
[53:09] Speaker 1: in each time slot. Okay. Get you ready for the weekend.
[53:13] Speaker 1: My four games in the early quad. High noon ABC,
[53:17] Speaker 1: Florida at Texas. Texas favored by 10.5 points. High noon
[53:21] Speaker 1: on the C-Dub, we've got Virginia on the road at
[53:24] Speaker 1: number 24, SMU. SMU favored by 9.5 points. 12 o'clock
[53:29] Speaker 1: on PEA here on my sheet. That's Peacock. Number 25, Northwestern,
[53:35] Speaker 1: minus seven and a half on the road at Michigan
[53:37] Speaker 1: State in the Pat Fitzgerald Bowl. And I've also got
[53:41] Speaker 1: a big one in the Sun Belt. High noon ESPNU,
[53:45] Speaker 1: Georgia State on the road at JMU. James Madison favored
[53:50] Speaker 1: by 12 and a half points, Dan. Georgia State, one
[53:54] Speaker 1: of the stories of the season. Deltron, right in the ship.
[53:57] Speaker 1: Del McGee.
[53:58] Speaker 3: Um, Texas, Florida, 10 and a half points, 10 and
[54:02] Speaker 3: a half points, letdown spot for Texas.
[54:05] Speaker 1: Possibly.
[54:06] Speaker 3: I think the last few weeks have been a one
[54:08] Speaker 3: giant letdown spot for Florida as well.
[54:10] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[54:12] Speaker 3: I think I'm going Texas here and I hate it.
[54:14] Speaker 3: Their offense is so average too often. And I know
[54:17] Speaker 3: the defenses they've played are on a different kind of
[54:20] Speaker 3: level having played, but Ohio state, uh, having played Oklahoma,
[54:25] Speaker 3: having played Tennessee, like that's a, you know, a trifecta
[54:29] Speaker 3: that's that's difficult but Florida offensive line wise Philo wise
[54:36] Speaker 3: secondary wise if Florida's defense right now and I don't
[54:39] Speaker 3: think you have this sound at the ready you're just
[54:41] Speaker 3: not professional in that specific way okay all right do
[54:45] Speaker 3: we have the plop plop fizz fizz fizz fizz I
[54:49] Speaker 3: can probably find is that the cure for the common
[54:51] Speaker 3: offense yeah that's that's when we would drop that in
[54:54] Speaker 3: like 2010 yeah But the Florida defense might be the
[54:59] Speaker 3: cure for the common offense, which Texas very much has
[55:01] Speaker 3: for stretches here. So I'm going to take Texas to
[55:05] Speaker 3: win this one by 13, 34-21.
[55:07] Speaker 1: By 13. So you're going to lay those points, that
[55:10] Speaker 1: is what you're telling me. I am going to lay
[55:11] Speaker 1: the points. It's a lot.
[55:12] Speaker 3: Maybe not 34-21. I think that's a lot for the
[55:14] Speaker 3: Texas defense to give up. Let's call it 27-14.
[55:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, our friend Gator Dave over at Gators Breakdown, who
[55:22] Speaker 1: I listen to religiously, He points to some of that
[55:25] Speaker 1: trouble up front that you referenced, be it in pass
[55:28] Speaker 1: protection and run blocking. He sees it as one of
[55:32] Speaker 1: the main reasons for the precipitous drop off that we've
[55:35] Speaker 1: seen on the Florida side. And I think he's right.
[55:37] Speaker 1: If that is the case, Texas is a really bad matchup. Like,
[55:41] Speaker 1: say what you want about Texas in the offense, which
[55:43] Speaker 1: I would agree looks average at times. Yeah. but defensively
[55:47] Speaker 1: they'll eat you alive.
[55:48] Speaker 3: Colin Simmons, Colin Simmons and his friends have entered into this,
[55:52] Speaker 3: you know, the chat.
[55:53] Speaker 1: They will eat you alive. Yeah. So yeah, that's definitely
[55:58] Speaker 1: something to keep tabs on. This also could be a
[56:00] Speaker 1: get right game for Arch Manning to your point. Maybe
[56:07] Speaker 1: the cure for the common offense. Yeah, absolutely.
[56:10] Speaker 3: Could be, um, Arch trying to make the move from
[56:14] Speaker 3: like the seventh best SEC quarterback to number six.
[56:19] Speaker 1: I'm not sure Florida can do enough to pressure him
[56:21] Speaker 1: without exposing their secondary, which has kind of been leaky
[56:24] Speaker 1: all year. So I think this is a game Texas
[56:27] Speaker 1: should win going away. I've got it at 34-17. But
[56:32] Speaker 1: what does this matchup mean for the Dallas Cowboys? Ty,
[56:36] Speaker 1: the floor is yours. I am on SMU outright over Virginia.
[56:44] Speaker 1: Virginia's kind of wild to me. I know you were
[56:48] Speaker 1: way higher on them in the preseason than I was,
[56:50] Speaker 1: but we both expected them to sort of be like
[56:52] Speaker 1: Iowa East. Very physical on offense, good defense. It turns
[56:58] Speaker 1: out the ceiling has not quite been that high. In particular,
[57:01] Speaker 1: the line has given up a ton of pressure, especially
[57:03] Speaker 1: against five-man fronts. It also feels like after they get
[57:06] Speaker 1: through their initial script of plays, they don't know what
[57:08] Speaker 1: to do. Kind of goes a thousand different directions on offense.
[57:12] Speaker 1: So I don't really know what state they're in right now.
[57:16] Speaker 1: I like the fact that SMU is at home. I
[57:18] Speaker 1: think this is too many points. So I would probably
[57:20] Speaker 1: take Virginia plus the nine and a half, but I
[57:22] Speaker 1: got it at something like SMU 28-24. Yeah, it's on
[57:27] Speaker 1: the road.
[57:27] Speaker 3: Virginia hasn't been especially great outside of Charlottesville yet. I
[57:31] Speaker 3: think it's a fun, weird, sloppy game. I'm going to
[57:34] Speaker 3: give the edge to SMU at home. Both of these teams,
[57:36] Speaker 3: as you've alluded to, have been sloppy. SMU on offense
[57:40] Speaker 3: more than anything. And Virginia certainly on both sides of
[57:44] Speaker 3: the ball have come up short. But yeah, the SMU,
[57:48] Speaker 3: I guess Virginia potentially has an advantage running the ball
[57:51] Speaker 3: straight at SMU here, who've given up some longer runs,
[57:54] Speaker 3: have given up plays. But I don't trust Bo Pribula
[57:58] Speaker 3: and the ability to will this team to a win
[57:59] Speaker 3: on the road.
[58:00] Speaker 1: And then the other two games, I think, are going
[58:02] Speaker 1: to be the story of rushing attacks. Like, I think
[58:06] Speaker 1: Northwestern is going to annihilate Michigan State on the ground.
[58:08] Speaker 1: And it's going to run all over them. And I
[58:10] Speaker 1: think the same is going to be true with JMU
[58:13] Speaker 1: against Georgia State. Again, Georgia State's been a fabulous story.
[58:18] Speaker 1: James Madison's going to run all over them. So I've
[58:20] Speaker 1: got Northwestern minus the points. I've got James Madison minus
[58:23] Speaker 1: the points.
[58:24] Speaker 3: Also an Aiden Childs revenge spot aside from the Fitz.
[58:28] Speaker 1: Bowl of it all.
[58:31] Speaker 3: I think there's more to like about Northwestern and I
[58:33] Speaker 3: think they do too many little things correctly. Certainly not
[58:36] Speaker 3: a look ahead spot considering the stakes for Northwestern here. Yeah,
[58:40] Speaker 3: I'm going to go Cats by 13.
[58:44] Speaker 1: From Cats to Tom Platt. How about that? Welcome to
[58:47] Speaker 1: the pain zone. Let's go to the afternoon quads. I've
[58:52] Speaker 1: got these four games. 330, CBS, Penn State. Oh, my God.
[58:56] Speaker 1: At Michigan. Oh, my God. So this is somebody has
[58:59] Speaker 1: to win their first Big Ten game? Someone's going to
[59:01] Speaker 1: get a Big Ten win, Dan. Michigan favored by six
[59:04] Speaker 1: and a half points. We've got 330, CBS Sports Network,
[59:08] Speaker 1: UNLV minus 165. and a half on the road at
[59:11] Speaker 1: Air Force. So I find to be interesting matchup. We've
[59:13] Speaker 1: also got Arizona State at number 10, Texas Tech. Texas
[59:17] Speaker 1: Tech favored by 14 and a half points at home.
[59:20] Speaker 1: And to round out your afternoon quad, we've got on ESPN,
[59:25] Speaker 1: Auburn scoring off against number one, Georgia. Georgia favored by
[59:29] Speaker 1: about three touchdowns let me ask you an honest question
[59:32] Speaker 1: about this Penn State Michigan game.
[59:34] Speaker 3: Oh you see Michigan added guys to their roster like
[59:36] Speaker 3: fifth-year seniors I saw that Boise State somewhere else as
[59:40] Speaker 3: well continue.
[59:43] Speaker 1: Why would anyone bet on Penn State it's a good
[59:46] Speaker 1: question why would anyone I checked multiple sources just to
[59:51] Speaker 1: make sure I wasn't hallucinating here the overwhelming percentage of
[59:56] Speaker 1: the bets are on Penn State plus six and a
[59:58] Speaker 1: half Overwhelming. Like 75%, one site was telling me 80%.
[1:00:06] Speaker 1: It looked like they were updated recently. Clearly people betting
[1:00:10] Speaker 1: on this game have seen something I have not. I
[1:00:12] Speaker 1: just don't think people realize how bad the vibes are
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: right now with Penn State. Rocco Beck has not been good.
[1:00:19] Speaker 1: The defense has not been good, especially against the run.
[1:00:23] Speaker 1: Cooper Ebel, their linebacker, will absolutely find a play in
[1:00:27] Speaker 1: which he will take a terrible angle and get roasted
[1:00:29] Speaker 1: and go for a big play. Okay. And I just
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: keep thinking to myself, Kyle Whittingham, the adult in the room,
[1:00:38] Speaker 1: must have absolutely dirty thoughts looking at this game tape
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: from that Northwestern game. Or dirty thoughts looking at that
[1:00:46] Speaker 1: game from a week ago with USC. Oh, baby, we're
[1:00:49] Speaker 1: going to start to run the ball this season. Well,
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: in mid-October. Oh, baby. I just like I'm on Michigan, man.
[1:00:58] Speaker 1: Why am I been a Penn State? They've looked horrible.
[1:01:00] Speaker 3: I think also Kyle Whittingham looks at this game and
[1:01:03] Speaker 3: says to himself, I could have been in Cabo right now.
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: What am I doing? I don't know. And you know what? People,
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: Penn State people have already pushed back on me a
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: little bit because I've mentioned like, I don't think Rocco
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: Beck's been good. He hasn't been accurate all year. Well,
[1:01:16] Speaker 1: you didn't watch the Temple game. I I watched all
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: the games, guys. Okay. I don't think he looks that good.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: I was pretty excited about the week one victory. Is
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: Kobe Howard back? No. Okay. I was pretty excited about
[1:01:29] Speaker 1: week one, and I'll admit there was optimism after the
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: first couple weeks, but I just don't think the accuracy's
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: been there. I think against better teams, we've seen that.
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to get better anytime soon.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: I certainly don't think it's going to get better on
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: the road in the big house against Michigan. And I
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: don't really care that much for Michigan and their offense either,
[1:01:48] Speaker 1: but I know they play defense. I know they're at home.
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: I feel like they can do the thing that we
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: saw Northwestern do to a different degree, mind you. Michigan
[1:01:59] Speaker 1: didn't lose last week, right? Michigan didn't lose last week.
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: Michigan can run directly at Penn State and win this game.
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: So give me the Wolverines minus whatever.
[1:02:07] Speaker 3: Michigan lost to Minnesota. That doesn't make me feel good.
[1:02:11] Speaker 3: I don't feel good about anything in this game.
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: No, no. I don't want to watch this.
[1:02:15] Speaker 3: The case for Penn State is murkier on the road
[1:02:19] Speaker 3: with Michigan's defense coming off of a bye. Don't bet
[1:02:22] Speaker 3: this game. Or bet the under or a first quarter under.
[1:02:27] Speaker 3: Don't put yourself through it. Yeah, because then you're riding
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: plays financially.
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: Don't do this. Don't do this to yourself. Pick a
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: different game. There's like 100 other games. They're all more
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: fun than this one. I don't even want to watch
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: this game. The only reason I'm going to is because
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: I'm an alum and because it's part of the job.
[1:02:42] Speaker 3: I think it's likelier that Michigan scores in unconventional ways
[1:02:46] Speaker 3: than Penn State. So I am taking Michigan here. With
[1:02:50] Speaker 3: a bunch of their own injury questions, even aside from
[1:02:52] Speaker 3: the offensive questions, the vibes are a question. You talk
[1:02:55] Speaker 3: about the Penn State vibes being down bad. Vibes aren't
[1:02:58] Speaker 3: great in Hanover.
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: No, but it's... I don't know. It's going to be
[1:03:03] Speaker 1: like 16-14 Michigan. And then afterwards, we're going to get
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: the very deep, the very existential life lesson from Matt
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: Campbell in the postgame presser. Matt Campbell, who seems like
[1:03:16] Speaker 1: a nice gentleman, a good guy who everyone is rooting for.
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: But we're going to get the life lesson. You know,
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: this is what it means. It's not enough for our
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: fan base. We need to represent ourselves better. Again, maybe
[1:03:29] Speaker 1: there's a reason he was the eighth choice. Wondering that aloud, but.
[1:03:34] Speaker 1: We'll give them the grace of some time. This year
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: clearly isn't it. I don't think this game is it either.
[1:03:41] Speaker 3: Okay, I'm taking Michigan here. And I don't feel great
[1:03:44] Speaker 3: about it for all the reasons listed.
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: Well, no, hold on.
[1:03:47] Speaker 3: I think Michigan will win outright. I'm taking points for
[1:03:50] Speaker 3: the same reason that I take points.
[1:03:52] Speaker 1: No, no, no.
[1:03:53] Speaker 3: It's not for any sort of beautiful reason. Same reason
[1:03:56] Speaker 3: I take points in a shootout. Whatever the opposite of
[1:03:58] Speaker 3: a shootout is. A stab in.
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: 21-13, Michigan. 17-13 Michigan. I'm on Air Force. I think
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: the Air Force is a pretty good defense. I think
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: they went out right over UNLV.
[1:04:13] Speaker 3: Air Force doesn't have that good of a defense, but
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: it is a letdown spot for UNLV going to altitude
[1:04:18] Speaker 3: after beating North Dakota State. It's a better defense than
[1:04:20] Speaker 3: you would think. Let's put it that way. Yeah, it
[1:04:21] Speaker 3: was disastrous last year. It's just kind of below average now.
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: They ran 68 plays last week against NIU. They threw
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: it once. In typical Air Force fashion. So I'm on
[1:04:33] Speaker 1: Air Force there. At home plus the points. Yep. I
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: am on Arizona State plus the points against Texas Tech.
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: Don't do this to yourself.
[1:04:40] Speaker 3: I know Texas Tech has been down with regard to
[1:04:43] Speaker 3: where they were last year.
[1:04:44] Speaker 1: ASU's been bad, bad. But okay. I'm going to go points.
[1:04:50] Speaker 3: Do you know how hard it is for Baylor to
[1:04:51] Speaker 3: score dozens upon dozens of points in the modern era?
[1:04:55] Speaker 1: Apparently harder than it used to be, yeah.
[1:04:58] Speaker 3: Cutter Bully is, or the passing game for ASU, is
[1:05:02] Speaker 3: among the worst in the Big 12 and has been
[1:05:05] Speaker 3: all season long pretty much. I don't trust ASU at all,
[1:05:08] Speaker 3: let alone on the road in a difficult place to play.
[1:05:11] Speaker 3: I think Texas Tech, even as dinged up as they
[1:05:13] Speaker 3: are on offense, I think they're able to get this
[1:05:15] Speaker 3: done on both sides of the ball. They win this
[1:05:17] Speaker 3: by 17, 20 points.
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: And I'm on Georgia minus whatever against Auburn. Byron Brown
[1:05:25] Speaker 1: has not translated to the SEC yet. They're 3-2 right now. Yeah,
[1:05:31] Speaker 1: offense is broken. I think they're probably only favored in
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: two of their final seven games. So unless there's some
[1:05:39] Speaker 1: sort of letdown at play here for Georgia. It's a rivalry.
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: I don't think so. I guess, but even still, I'm
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: just not seeing an obvious way that Auburn's going to
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: score enough points to certainly contend in this game, but
[1:05:52] Speaker 1: maybe even cover. So I'm inclined to go Georgia minus
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: the points. I'm going Georgia minus whatever here. Yep. All right.
[1:06:00] Speaker 1: Night quads. My question to you is how bad do
[1:06:04] Speaker 1: you really want legs? 730 SEC Network, number 15, Kentucky,
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: on the road at Oklahoma. Oklahoma favored by a 7.
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: Also at 7 p.m., we've got ESPN, Florida State on
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: the road at number three, Miami, rivalry spot, Miami, 21
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: and one half American points. 730 NBC, we've got Wisconsin
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: on the road at number 12, UCLA, UCLA favored by
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: two and a half at home. And at 7 p.m.
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: on FS1, we've got TCU on the road at the
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: Baylor Bears. Baylor Bears and their nightmare of a defense
[1:06:38] Speaker 1: favored by six points. Yeah. Against the Horned Frogs, Dan Rubenstein.
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: I need help. Kentucky, Oklahoma is very difficult. I need help.
[1:06:50] Speaker 3: Two big letdown moments for these teams. Although Kentucky had
[1:06:53] Speaker 3: a letdown moment going into last week, and granted it
[1:06:56] Speaker 3: was at home against LSU, but after the South Carolina win,
[1:06:59] Speaker 3: the miracle at the end, or whatever it was, pulling
[1:07:02] Speaker 3: it out in the same way against LSU.
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: I don't know, man. They're built for drama. The cardiac cats, right?
[1:07:08] Speaker 1: I have... no idea who to pick in this game.
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: I don't know who's winning. I don't know who I'm
[1:07:14] Speaker 1: picking against the spread. This game to me was the
[1:07:18] Speaker 1: hardest one that I saw all weekend. I have no
[1:07:21] Speaker 1: idea who's winning this game. I have Oklahoma winning by three. Ugly.
[1:07:25] Speaker 3: I don't think it's a sustainable way to win for
[1:07:28] Speaker 3: either one of these teams. I think there is a shred,
[1:07:32] Speaker 3: a glimmer of hope with Oklahoma on the ground, at
[1:07:35] Speaker 3: least with Lloyd Avant. And what he was able to
[1:07:37] Speaker 3: do at times, getting some chunk plays against Texas. I'm
[1:07:41] Speaker 3: worried about the Kentucky defense. I'm worried about them on
[1:07:43] Speaker 3: the road in a difficult place to play. But if
[1:07:46] Speaker 3: you are going to be good enough to beat what
[1:07:49] Speaker 3: I believe to be a decent Kentucky team, they're top
[1:07:53] Speaker 3: 15 at the moment.
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: They are number 15.
[1:07:55] Speaker 3: I don't know about all that numbers, but that's okay.
[1:07:58] Speaker 3: That's okay. Winning is a skill. They have that skill.
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: They're winning.
[1:08:01] Speaker 3: They should be ranked. I think Oklahoma wins this game.
[1:08:04] Speaker 3: 18 to 15 at home. Yeah, a classic of the form.
[1:08:11] Speaker 3: 11 field goals? Is that what we got? I hope not,
[1:08:15] Speaker 3: but I also kind of secretly hope so. Kentucky has
[1:08:18] Speaker 3: kicking struggles. Oklahoma sometimes has kicking struggles, but I think
[1:08:22] Speaker 3: we get a good old-fashioned uggo between these two.
[1:08:27] Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
[1:08:28] Speaker 1: I'll take the points. I'm not even going to try
[1:08:31] Speaker 1: to lie to the people out there.
[1:08:32] Speaker 3: Oh, I just did the same thing. Oklahoma minus seven
[1:08:35] Speaker 3: is too big for me.
[1:08:36] Speaker 1: Yeah. I got no clue who's winning this game. I
[1:08:40] Speaker 1: have zero clue. So I'm going to take the points.
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: I don't, I'm just, I wish I could be stronger
[1:08:47] Speaker 1: minded and go one way or another, but I don't know.
[1:08:50] Speaker 1: I have no idea. I have no idea. It feels
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: very even to me.
[1:08:53] Speaker 3: I think you need to bring a stronger defense to
[1:08:56] Speaker 3: an Ugo type matchup than Oklahoma currently has. and for
[1:09:01] Speaker 3: that reason I think Oklahoma is able to eke out
[1:09:03] Speaker 3: just enough to get to stay clean to 18 how
[1:09:07] Speaker 3: about that.
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: I've got Miami minus the points against Florida State I
[1:09:11] Speaker 1: think they're gonna crush them.
[1:09:14] Speaker 3: But isn't this game always like oh yeah Miami's way
[1:09:16] Speaker 3: better final score 28-21 right.
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: Isn't that game always in this? Okay, so here's the
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: case for Florida State.
[1:09:24] Speaker 3: They're going to be up in a way that Miami
[1:09:26] Speaker 3: won't necessarily be because it's not like Miami needs to
[1:09:29] Speaker 3: prove something that they are worthwhile or something in the
[1:09:32] Speaker 3: way that Florida State does. The game's at Miami, yes?
[1:09:34] Speaker 2: Yep.
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: Okay. Florida State, this is the season. This is Mike
[1:09:39] Speaker 1: Norvell's job. This is everything, right?
[1:09:40] Speaker 3: It looked like they had, you know, an upswing potential
[1:09:43] Speaker 3: moment against Virginia a couple weeks ago and gave away
[1:09:46] Speaker 3: the game after starting fast against Louisville last week. Miami
[1:09:50] Speaker 3: is without. Possibly they're starting right guard and right tackle.
[1:09:53] Speaker 3: Beat up somewhat at edge. Malachi Toney isn't right. It
[1:09:58] Speaker 3: doesn't matter to me in a dramatic sense but they're
[1:10:02] Speaker 3: not at 100 and in terms of like if we're
[1:10:04] Speaker 3: going to list out like who texas has played or
[1:10:06] Speaker 3: who so-and-so has played miami and their experience against quality
[1:10:12] Speaker 3: offense is limited to all due respect wake forest who
[1:10:14] Speaker 3: has been one of the stories of the season i'm
[1:10:16] Speaker 3: you know thrilled for for the dekes here but we
[1:10:20] Speaker 3: don't really know what miami is in this moment right
[1:10:24] Speaker 3: that's the case for florida state i don't know how
[1:10:27] Speaker 3: worthwhile that case is to you I don't know.
[1:10:30] Speaker 1: I just think Miami is going to create so much pressure.
[1:10:33] Speaker 1: They're going to put Ashton Daniels in a box, something
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: of a torture chamber, and it's going to be tough
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: for them to figure out a way to move the ball. Now,
[1:10:42] Speaker 1: if they can resort to being effective on the ground
[1:10:46] Speaker 1: with Usman Chroma, with Ashton Daniels, as we have seen
[1:10:50] Speaker 1: on occasion these last couple weeks, then great. I think
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: that's at least one path forward. I just don't think
[1:10:56] Speaker 1: they can do it for 60 minutes against this Miami defense.
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: So I think there will be some points. Oh, same.
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: I don't think Florida State's going to be losing 38
[1:11:04] Speaker 1: to zip. I think they'll put up a fight. I
[1:11:07] Speaker 1: think it'll be interesting for a while. But I just
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: think over the long haul, Miami and the efficiency they
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: have right now in the passing game with Darian Mensah,
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: their ability as an offense to close out a game
[1:11:21] Speaker 1: running the rock the way that they do. I think
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: that makes for a really, really difficult matchup for Florida State.
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: I'll be with a huge point spread here, but I'm
[1:11:29] Speaker 1: still going Miami minus that number.
[1:11:31] Speaker 3: I'm going Florida State plus. Again, they've played arguably the
[1:11:37] Speaker 3: two most disappointing offenses in the ACC in Stanford and Clemson.
[1:11:41] Speaker 1: Yeah. That's not crazy to say. There's emotion in this game.
[1:11:45] Speaker 3: The game is always just closer than the experts say.
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
[1:11:51] Speaker 2: That is food in great quantity.
[1:11:54] Speaker 1: 30 to 20, Miami. Florida State covers. I am going
[1:12:02] Speaker 1: to go UCLA minus the number over Wisconsin. I know
[1:12:05] Speaker 1: they've got a backup quarterback in Ty Dieffenbach.
[1:12:09] Speaker 3: Oh, not just a backup quarterback, Ty. An average Cal
[1:12:12] Speaker 3: Poly quarterback starting for UCLA. But yes, there's a lot
[1:12:17] Speaker 3: of great vibes right now happening in Westwood.
[1:12:18] Speaker 1: Continue. I think the vibes are really strong. I don't
[1:12:22] Speaker 1: think they will continue undefeated now that Nico Iamaliava will
[1:12:25] Speaker 1: be done for the year. I think eventually Ty Dieffenbach
[1:12:28] Speaker 1: will catch up with them. I don't think this will
[1:12:30] Speaker 1: be that game, though. So I am on UCLA minus
[1:12:33] Speaker 1: the points. I am also on Baylor minus the points.
[1:12:39] Speaker 1: I expect the Baylor TCU game to be all sorts
[1:12:43] Speaker 1: of crazy. I think it's going to be crazy. Baylor
[1:12:47] Speaker 1: playing defense for the first time in what feels like
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: forever is definitely a new one here. was not expecting
[1:12:53] Speaker 1: it to this degree this season. I also think that
[1:12:58] Speaker 1: if you overlay what Baylor has done with what TCU
[1:13:03] Speaker 1: has done on offense, you can paint a pretty clear
[1:13:06] Speaker 1: picture that this is going to be a lower scoring
[1:13:08] Speaker 1: game than you might expect. TCU right now, 114th in
[1:13:12] Speaker 1: points per scoring opportunity. They need to find a way
[1:13:16] Speaker 1: to jumpstart that offense. I don't think they're going to
[1:13:19] Speaker 1: be able to do it against Baylor, I'm looking for
[1:13:22] Speaker 1: Baylor to score some points here. Their offense has not
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: been spectacular. Want to see what DJ Lagway looks like
[1:13:29] Speaker 1: after a high ankle sprain. Let's see what Baylor's line
[1:13:32] Speaker 1: looks like. There are a lot of qualifiers, I think
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: on the offensive side, but defensively they've been very good.
[1:13:37] Speaker 1: 17 to 10. Baylor wins and covers at home.
[1:13:42] Speaker 3: I have 30 to 17. Baylor winning this game and
[1:13:46] Speaker 3: covering at home at night, the revivalry, um, I think
[1:13:50] Speaker 3: I'm on Wisconsin pretty enthusiastically against UCLA.
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:13:54] Speaker 3: I think UCLA's offense is going to be one-dimensional. It's
[1:13:56] Speaker 3: a letdown spot. Wisconsin coming off of a bye as well.
[1:13:59] Speaker 3: And that's a travel, right? Or that's a travel. That's
[1:14:02] Speaker 3: a trip going from Madison to LA. I like Wisconsin there.
[1:14:06] Speaker 3: I like Baylor in that spot. Was there another night spot?
[1:14:11] Speaker 1: No, that was it. Of that quad. There is one
[1:14:13] Speaker 1: more night spot. I won't. Disagree. Disagree. I won't include
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: it in this quad, but it's sort of a quad
[1:14:18] Speaker 1: unto itself. 11 p.m., baby. Skip. Skip. On Fox, we
[1:14:23] Speaker 1: got the Dylan Raiola Bowl. Maybe. On the road.
[1:14:27] Speaker 2: Maybe.
[1:14:27] Speaker 1: On the road at your two loss Oregon Ducks favored
[1:14:33] Speaker 1: by seven and a half points. I'm going to give
[1:14:39] Speaker 1: you the floor. What? I'm going to give you the floor.
[1:14:42] Speaker 1: Just give me 30 seconds on this game. You will
[1:14:45] Speaker 1: speak more passionately. You will speak more knowledgeably about this
[1:14:49] Speaker 1: matchup than I ever could hope to. Nebraska, on the
[1:14:53] Speaker 1: road at Oregon. Your time starts now.
[1:14:56] Speaker 3: Okay, shout out Dwayne the Brock Johnson because I'm hoping
[1:14:59] Speaker 3: Brock Thomas starts this game for Oregon at quarterback. We
[1:15:03] Speaker 3: should have two good defenses on display, two teams who
[1:15:06] Speaker 3: are in a letdown spot of sorts. Nebraska thought they
[1:15:10] Speaker 3: had Indiana on the ropes. They very much did have
[1:15:12] Speaker 3: them on the ropes, but weren't able to close that game.
[1:15:14] Speaker 3: Oregon actually had a chance to close their game as
[1:15:17] Speaker 3: well in just a terrible offensive performance with Dylan Raiola.
[1:15:21] Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to start. I don't think
[1:15:23] Speaker 3: Dylan Raiola is going to start this game. That's just
[1:15:25] Speaker 3: a hunch based on nothing. If Oregon is able to approximate... 30%
[1:15:34] Speaker 3: of their offense, 42% of their offense against, again, I
[1:15:38] Speaker 3: think Nebraska, especially up front, Nebraska is one of the
[1:15:40] Speaker 3: best third down defenses in America. They should be able
[1:15:43] Speaker 3: to get stops against Oregon, no matter who the quarterback is.
[1:15:45] Speaker 3: If it's Dante Moore, I haven't heard anything about his
[1:15:47] Speaker 3: status yet. We'll know more by Friday. But if they're
[1:15:51] Speaker 3: able to get somewhere in that vicinity, I think they
[1:15:54] Speaker 3: should be able to win this game against Nebraska.
[1:15:56] Speaker 1: Am I picking Oregon? Absolutely not. Yeah.
[1:15:59] Speaker 3: Absolutely not I'm acknowledging I'm going to ride the fence
[1:16:02] Speaker 3: here I'm acknowledging that if Oregon is able to And
[1:16:06] Speaker 3: I don't know what kind of changes behind the scenes
[1:16:07] Speaker 3: Dan Lanning mentioned In his presser Monday night In terms
[1:16:11] Speaker 3: of play calling, in terms of structure of this offense
[1:16:14] Speaker 3: DeCorean Moore talked about The changes that they're making behind
[1:16:16] Speaker 3: the scenes As an Oregon fan I hope so, you
[1:16:21] Speaker 3: know But Nebraska's got their act together At least Behind
[1:16:26] Speaker 3: the scenes in a way that Oregon doesn't seem to
[1:16:27] Speaker 3: In this moment I am picking Nebraska, though I don't
[1:16:32] Speaker 3: believe in anything anymore as an Oregon fan, so don't
[1:16:34] Speaker 3: take my.
[1:16:34] Speaker 1: Word for it. Should I lock up Oregon? Would that
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: make you feel better? Yeah, that would be great. Thank you.
[1:16:40] Speaker 1: Do that, please. I'll take Oregon minus the number. I will.
[1:16:43] Speaker 1: I think they get right against Nebraska. I think there's
[1:16:45] Speaker 1: potentially a little bit of a letdown at play here
[1:16:47] Speaker 1: for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. That was a big game, obviously,
[1:16:52] Speaker 1: with Indiana in town, and it was within reach, and
[1:16:54] Speaker 1: they kind of let them have it. On the Oregon side,
[1:16:57] Speaker 1: obviously that was a bit of a stunner. Let's be real.
[1:17:00] Speaker 3: I just, I don't think in this moment there is
[1:17:03] Speaker 3: any way you can start Dylan Raiola in this game.
[1:17:06] Speaker 1: I saw something earlier that he's going to play. Maybe
[1:17:09] Speaker 1: he doesn't start.
[1:17:09] Speaker 3: I don't think there is any universe in which, like
[1:17:12] Speaker 3: you see the performance last week. I don't think there's
[1:17:15] Speaker 3: any universe in which if there's literally any other healthy
[1:17:18] Speaker 3: quarterback on the roster, you can start him.
[1:17:22] Speaker 1: It's as bad as it is. Trust me, Ty. Trust me.
[1:17:25] Speaker 1: Trust me, bro. Okay. What did I call myself? Sad
[1:17:29] Speaker 1: Merle Nimitz? Yeah. On the show on Monday? I'm an
[1:17:32] Speaker 1: expert now on college football sadness. Okay.
[1:17:36] Speaker 3: You cannot trot him out against a good defense. Against
[1:17:40] Speaker 3: even a pretty good defense.
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: You cannot. Run the Board is available for free for ballers.com.

[1:18:44] Speaker 1: the evening or Saturday night live stream. That will be
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: on the YouTube channel. That'll be... out on TikTok, out
[1:18:51] Speaker 1: on Twitter slash X the everything app. We do have
[1:18:54] Speaker 1: a couple under the radar games that I wanted to
[1:18:56] Speaker 1: give a shout out to. Please. Six of them to
[1:19:02] Speaker 1: be exact. Dan Rubenstein. We don't need picks. I just
[1:19:05] Speaker 1: want to put these on The radar 12 p.m. TNT
[1:19:09] Speaker 1: Cincinnati on the road at West Virginia. West Virginia favored
[1:19:14] Speaker 1: by a point and a half. There is a question
[1:19:16] Speaker 1: for me. This is why I'm interested in this game
[1:19:19] Speaker 1: as to whether or not since he can rebound after
[1:19:22] Speaker 1: losing to Arizona. They've got Texas Tech and Utah on
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: the docket. So Morgantown will be a nice little test
[1:19:32] Speaker 1: to see how well they hold up.
[1:19:35] Speaker 3: I mean, they both are trying to rebound after losing
[1:19:38] Speaker 3: to Arizona. West Virginia gave up so much exercise to
[1:19:40] Speaker 3: Arizona last week.
[1:19:41] Speaker 1: 12 o'clock, FS1. We've got the Sunflower Showdown, I believe,
[1:19:46] Speaker 1: between Kansas and Kansas State. Nice little rivalry. We've got
[1:19:49] Speaker 1: Kansas State favored by four and a half points. Kansas
[1:19:53] Speaker 1: will get yet another shot at ending the 17-game rivalry
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: streak that K-State currently holds. Meanwhile, the Wildcats are trying
[1:20:04] Speaker 1: to avoid an 0-3 Big 12 start. I think both
[1:20:07] Speaker 1: of them are 0-4 in the Big 12, right? That's right.
[1:20:09] Speaker 3: So they're both looking for their first conference win. Look,
[1:20:12] Speaker 3: Kansas State always wins this game. What my book presupposes
[1:20:17] Speaker 3: is maybe they won't this weekend.
[1:20:20] Speaker 1: I'm going Kansas. Break the streak. Rock Chalk. How about it?
[1:20:24] Speaker 1: 330 ESPN2. We got North Carolina. Duke. Duke favored by three. Yeah.
[1:20:30] Speaker 1: I'm going North Carolina, baby. I'm going Duke.
[1:20:33] Speaker 3: I know Duke lost to a pretty disappointing Georgia Tech
[1:20:35] Speaker 3: team last week. But at home, one of the most
[1:20:38] Speaker 3: improved defenses in the ACC. I think they get right
[1:20:41] Speaker 3: against North Carolina. I don't see the North Carolina defense
[1:20:45] Speaker 3: coming through for four quarters against Duke.
[1:20:47] Speaker 1: 8 p.m. ESPNU. We've got Navy at UTSA. Interesting matchup
[1:20:50] Speaker 1: in the American. UTSA favored by six and a half points.
[1:20:53] Speaker 1: They are roadrunners. Yeah. Yeah. Five and one. They've got
[1:20:57] Speaker 1: an unbeaten record in the American. squaring off against Navy
[1:21:00] Speaker 1: with the option, which always makes for an interesting contrast.
[1:21:04] Speaker 1: We'll see if UTSA can continue on and march toward
[1:21:08] Speaker 1: potentially a conference title championship appearance. And to close things out,
[1:21:14] Speaker 1: 1030 ESPN2, number 12, number 21, excuse me, Rick Forrest,
[1:21:19] Speaker 1: maybe number 12 after this week, who knows? Nine and
[1:21:22] Speaker 1: a half point favorite traveling cross country against the California
[1:21:25] Speaker 1: Golden Bears.
[1:21:27] Speaker 3: That one's tough to me, but I think Wake Forest
[1:21:29] Speaker 3: is an animal right now on this Serengeti Saturday.
[1:21:32] Speaker 2: There is food in great quantity.
[1:21:37] Speaker 3: Maybe a letdown spot for Cal after their win against
[1:21:39] Speaker 3: Virginia Tech. I don't know what the JKS status is
[1:21:43] Speaker 3: at the moment coming off of his injury. So I'm
[1:21:46] Speaker 3: going Wake Forest and Gio Lopez to keep rolling. Tough
[1:21:50] Speaker 3: spot on the road across the country.
[1:21:51] Speaker 1: Still going Wake. We have to give our locks of
[1:21:53] Speaker 1: the week, by the way. I think we forgot. My
[1:22:02] Speaker 1: lock is Texas minus the number against Florida. My lock
[1:22:07] Speaker 1: is Northwestern against Michigan State. I thought about doing that
[1:22:10] Speaker 1: one as well. Yeah. I like that a lot. Yeah.
[1:22:16] Speaker 1: All right. There you have it. Longer than usual show.
[1:22:19] Speaker 1: It's okay. More than the usual allotment of big games.
[1:22:24] Speaker 1: Week seven is an absolute monster. We would encourage everybody
[1:22:29] Speaker 1: again to go to overballers.com, sign up for the free trial,
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: play the game, compete for that prize. Please make sure
[1:22:36] Speaker 1: you rate, review, and subscribe if you have yet to
[1:22:37] Speaker 1: do so. We will be sending out our free newsletter
[1:22:43] Speaker 1: Thursday afternoon. Encourage you to go and sign up for
[1:22:46] Speaker 1: that as well. Learn something new about college football each
[1:22:49] Speaker 1: and every week. And as you are watching the games, 855-VERBAL-3,
[1:22:54] Speaker 1: be mindful of the fact that you will be talking
[1:22:56] Speaker 1: directly to me. I will be the one answering the phones. Uh-oh.
[1:23:00] Speaker 1: Not literally answering the phones. 610, keep going. I will
[1:23:03] Speaker 1: be listening to your messages. So be kind. Please call
[1:23:07] Speaker 1: early and often. Probably a little bit of an earlier
[1:23:11] Speaker 1: cutoff than usual since, you know, we got to do
[1:23:13] Speaker 1: the show and study and get ready for everything at night.
[1:23:15] Speaker 1: But give me a ring. 855-VERBAL-3.
[1:23:19] Speaker 3: By the way, Couple more things, and then we'll get
[1:23:22] Speaker 3: you out. One, there's a camper van I see every
[1:23:25] Speaker 3: so often around here with both a Washington and a
[1:23:28] Speaker 3: Purdue bumper sticker.
[1:23:30] Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, they play Friday night. It's a big moment
[1:23:34] Speaker 1: for the van.
[1:23:36] Speaker 3: If you told a Washington fan, like, hey, just so
[1:23:38] Speaker 3: you know, you're going to be underdogs against Purdue before
[1:23:41] Speaker 3: the season started. I almost feel bad for the Washington
[1:23:45] Speaker 3: Husky experience this year. I mean, this week, Jed Fish
[1:23:48] Speaker 3: was like, we're not paying our players anything. We're basically
[1:23:51] Speaker 3: last in the Big Ten in payroll. He was like, guys,
[1:23:53] Speaker 3: you gotta shh, shh, shh. I know he's saying that
[1:23:55] Speaker 3: to try to raise people's enthusiasm for paying behind the scenes, but...
[1:23:59] Speaker 3: Thanks to the Washington offense, the absolute disasters that are
[1:24:02] Speaker 3: the Oregon and Michigan offenses are not the biggest collapses
[1:24:06] Speaker 3: in the Big Ten offensively that belongs to Washington.
[1:24:09] Speaker 1: I like Purdue there. The other one I think should mention,
[1:24:12] Speaker 1: I mean, Memphis is if you're bored on Friday night,
[1:24:14] Speaker 1: Marcus Stokes has been lighting it up for Memphis. I
[1:24:17] Speaker 1: think West Florida transfer. That's your guy. On the road
[1:24:19] Speaker 1: at Tulane. You like Marcus Stokes. He's a fun watch. Yeah.
[1:24:23] Speaker 3: Checkered past in terms of how we ended up in Memphis.
[1:24:26] Speaker 3: And we'll see if he plays for another team next year.
[1:24:28] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:24:29] Speaker 3: I think he still has a year of eligibility, but
[1:24:30] Speaker 3: he's been lighting it up for the Tigers and, uh, uh,
[1:24:34] Speaker 3: a first season new head coach, uh, in, in Charles Huff. So,
[1:24:37] Speaker 3: I mean, that could be entertainment wise Friday. And then also,
[1:24:39] Speaker 3: if you just want to drop that big, stanky, slippery
[1:24:43] Speaker 3: drum and fife. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
[1:24:55] Speaker 1: That's two consecutive sound drops here where i hit the
[1:24:57] Speaker 1: button and nothing happened oh man i'm wearing these buttons
[1:25:01] Speaker 1: out man it's been too long doing this damn show
[1:25:03] Speaker 1: okay five count them five games in the pat league
[1:25:07] Speaker 1: this weekend on saturday 1 p.m we've got georgetown away
[1:25:11] Speaker 1: from multi-sport field uh-oh squaring off against colgate give me
[1:25:15] Speaker 1: colgate Give me Colgate. In Hamilton, New York? The Hamilton,
[1:25:18] Speaker 1: New York? The Hamilton, New York. Give me Colgate. Colgate, huge. Saturday,
[1:25:22] Speaker 1: 1 p.m., Holy Cross on the road at Harvard. Is
[1:25:26] Speaker 1: Holy Cross good this year? Uh.
[1:25:30] Speaker 3: Holy Cross is 2-4 Harvard.
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: A perfect 4-0.
[1:25:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta go Harvard, right? We're crazy for Crimson
[1:25:35] Speaker 3: on this show. Harvard beat Cornell 41-29 on the road.
[1:25:39] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[1:25:39] Speaker 3: Holy Cross, easy work early in the day. ESPN +,
[1:25:42] Speaker 3: give me Harvard. Saturday, 2 p.m., Lehigh at Cornell.
[1:25:46] Speaker 1: Give me Lehigh. Go Mountain Hawks. I think Lehigh as
[1:25:48] Speaker 1: well here. Yep. Saturday, 3 p.m., Lafayette on the road
[1:25:52] Speaker 1: at Bucknell. Give me the Yetis. Never picked them up.
[1:25:55] Speaker 3: Yetis 1-4, Bucknell 1-5, 0-5 combined in the Pat League.
[1:25:59] Speaker 3: I think getting away from the stresses of Easton, PA,
[1:26:02] Speaker 3: you're nearby.
[1:26:02] Speaker 1: You understand. Lafayette wins this one eking by. And finally,
[1:26:08] Speaker 1: last but certainly not least, Saturday, 3.30. Maybe put it
[1:26:12] Speaker 1: in your quad if you're into it. I don't know.
[1:26:16] Speaker 1: We got Villanova on the road at Fordham. Give me Supernova.
[1:26:20] Speaker 1: Give me Supernova. I'm ready.
[1:26:22] Speaker 3: I think Nova goes down in the murderous Moglia Stadium
[1:26:24] Speaker 3: at Jack Coffee Field in the Bronx. The boogie down Bronx.
[1:26:28] Speaker 3: Give me Fordham against Villanova here.
[1:26:31] Speaker 2: All right.
[1:26:31] Speaker 1: Week seven. At least the preview in the books. We've
[1:26:35] Speaker 1: got a very busy Saturday planned out here in the
[1:26:38] Speaker 1: Verbaler Hood. Livestream earlier in the day. Livestream late at night. Separated,
[1:26:44] Speaker 1: I guess, by 12 hours. Start to finish. And then
[1:26:48] Speaker 1: some if you want to count up all the hours
[1:26:49] Speaker 1: in between. There's going to be a lot going on
[1:26:51] Speaker 1: in our little world here. What's the easiest way to
[1:26:53] Speaker 1: find the live stream? It's just on our YouTube channel? Twitter?
[1:26:57] Speaker 1: It's on the YouTube channel. It's on all of our channels.
[1:26:59] Speaker 1: If you want to, and I know why you're asking this. Yeah, yeah.
[1:27:02] Speaker 1: If you want to, I can redirect Smell Ty's hair
[1:27:06] Speaker 1: to point to the live stream. Yeah. Do we own tywillmassageyou.gov?
[1:27:13] Speaker 2: No.
[1:27:13] Speaker 1: Is that? No? No. I don't want to register that.
[1:27:18] Speaker 1: All right. Fair. Dan Rubenstein, it's a pleasure as always.
[1:27:22] Speaker 1: A thrill to have you back with me now that
[1:27:25] Speaker 1: we're in week seven. It is a thrill to be
[1:27:28] Speaker 1: here with the Verballerhood offering a free trial of Verballers.com
[1:27:32] Speaker 1: if you want to help support the team. Yes. Play
[1:27:34] Speaker 1: for that $ 500 gift card. For that, go over there,
[1:27:36] Speaker 1: my good friend Dan Rubenstein. For myself over here, Ty Hildenbrand.
[1:27:39] Speaker 1: We will catch you all on Saturday. Peace.
