[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal hull. That for me, I'm
[0:06] Speaker 1: a man, I'm forty. I've heard so many players say, well,
[0:09] Speaker 1: I want to be happy.
[0:10] Speaker 2: You want to be happy for day Edo State? Is that?
[0:13] Speaker 1: Whoo whoo? And no Dan and tie Dan Rokenstein. As
[0:19] Speaker 1: we come on the airwaves tonight, the first round is
[0:24] Speaker 1: just about over. We will get to that and much
[0:27] Speaker 1: much more here over the next I don't know forty
[0:31] Speaker 1: five minutes, sixty minutes worth of podcasting. Thank you one
[0:35] Speaker 1: and all for stopping on by. Please hit follow, please
[0:37] Speaker 1: hit subscribe if you have to do so. It supports
[0:40] Speaker 1: what we do and it ensures that you will not
[0:43] Speaker 1: miss any of our episodes. We've got much to discuss here.
[0:46] Speaker 1: Of course, we had a big one on Friday night
[0:48] Speaker 1: with Alabama's comeback. We had the Slugfest in College Station Miami,
[0:53] Speaker 1: pulling that one out over Texas A and M. And
[0:56] Speaker 1: then we had two matchups later in the day today
[0:59] Speaker 1: Ole miss Tulane and as we are recording now, James
[1:03] Speaker 1: Madison against Oregon, both of which are runaway trains not
[1:07] Speaker 1: entirely unexpected, although I will admit it does bring up
[1:11] Speaker 1: some other conversations around the structure of the playoff and
[1:15] Speaker 1: the sport and what have you. It is really just
[1:17] Speaker 1: a blank canvas onto which you can project all that
[1:20] Speaker 1: ails you about college football. We will get to that
[1:24] Speaker 1: as well, Dan Rubinstein, are you able to give me
[1:27] Speaker 1: your undivided attention given that Orson I'm still playing, Yeah, Oregon,
[1:32] Speaker 1: Jamie is still going.
[1:33] Speaker 2: Oregon has I think it's fours in at least on defense,
[1:36] Speaker 2: and Jamu march down the field to score its twenty
[1:39] Speaker 2: seventh point. Oregon's up three touchdowns at the moment. I
[1:41] Speaker 2: don't know what's going to happen there. I assume Oregan's
[1:43] Speaker 2: gonna win going away, and things are going to continue
[1:46] Speaker 2: right now, and I guess we can find out at
[1:49] Speaker 2: the same time as the show progresses. If Jamu makes
[1:51] Speaker 2: a furious comeback and it gets weird, I don't know,
[1:54] Speaker 2: but Oregon seems to have it in hand. Good news,
[1:56] Speaker 2: bad news time. The good news is we get to
[1:58] Speaker 2: talk about college football. We get to espouse opinions if
[2:01] Speaker 2: I use the word to spouse correctly, and talk through
[2:05] Speaker 2: these games, talk through these moments and storylines, and you know,
[2:09] Speaker 2: form opinions about how we think things might go moving forward.
[2:13] Speaker 2: The bad news is I emptied our bank account to
[2:15] Speaker 2: pay fifty cent for ninety seconds of It's gonna.
[2:21] Speaker 1: Be a killer. I don't know.
[2:22] Speaker 2: I hopefully it goes better for us than it did
[2:25] Speaker 2: for Oklahoma bringing him in before the fourth quarter. Yeah,
[2:28] Speaker 2: but I think it's worth it. We'll see, we'll see.
[2:32] Speaker 1: That killed me when I saw him walking that thous
[2:34] Speaker 1: is that fitty? Okay? Okay, all right, cool, do whatever
[2:37] Speaker 1: it takes. I think it's creting.
[2:39] Speaker 2: It was a ReSpectacle. It was great get fifty cent
[2:42] Speaker 2: to Norman, Oklahoma for a college football game.
[2:46] Speaker 1: I think it's great. I love it. I love it. Well, Hey,
[2:49] Speaker 1: welcome back one and all. It is a pleasure going
[2:52] Speaker 1: to be with you again. Thank you for your sports
[2:53] Speaker 1: for danelady for listening the whole nine yards. Why don't
[2:57] Speaker 1: we go in chronological order. You mentioned the Friday night game.
[3:01] Speaker 1: This one was taking place in Norman, Oklahoma. It was
[3:03] Speaker 1: the number eight seed Oklahoma playing host to the number
[3:06] Speaker 1: nine seed Alabama. Was a rematch of a game that
[3:11] Speaker 1: took place about a month ago. Remember Oklahoma won that
[3:14] Speaker 1: one by a twenty three to twenty one final. Yes,
[3:20] Speaker 1: so I was among the chorus of people out on x,
[3:26] Speaker 1: the everything app who posted about the early demise of
[3:30] Speaker 1: Alabama when they went down seventeen zip.
[3:34] Speaker 2: Oh that was you. Oh yeah, I knew I wasn't
[3:36] Speaker 2: going to say anything. There's no winning with those maniacs.
[3:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, I was one of them. It did not age well,
[3:44] Speaker 1: and as the second half was going down, I am
[3:47] Speaker 1: just praying to the Lord above that our friend Freezing
[3:51] Speaker 1: Cold Takes does not highlight my early tweet here.
[3:57] Speaker 2: Can I tell you also why I was trying to
[4:00] Speaker 2: dance on Alabama in that moment. Oklahoma has exclusively scored
[4:06] Speaker 2: between like seventeen and twenty five points this season, especially
[4:10] Speaker 2: against quality defenses, and they scored seventeen of those points
[4:14] Speaker 2: pretty quickly. So I was like, look, maybe it's a
[4:17] Speaker 2: different kind of night and they're scoring forty five, but
[4:19] Speaker 2: it's still against the Alabama deep.
[4:21] Speaker 1: Against the Alabama defense, And.
[4:23] Speaker 2: So I was like, I am not Look, I'm prepared
[4:25] Speaker 2: for Oklahoma to win this game. But at that moment,
[4:27] Speaker 2: I was like, Okay, I could see Oklahoma winning this
[4:30] Speaker 2: game twenty three to twenty two, you know, and holding
[4:33] Speaker 2: on for dear life. But no, I wasn't in your
[4:36] Speaker 2: head space. But I appreciate that we're all different snowflakes here.
[4:39] Speaker 1: I jumped the gun, though that account didn't zing me.
[4:44] Speaker 1: Many others did. In my defense, A I did pick
[4:48] Speaker 1: Alabama beforehand to win the game. You may recall only
[4:52] Speaker 1: one member of this broadcasting dynamic duo did, and it
[4:55] Speaker 1: was me. You're truly yeah. And secondly, there weren't a
[4:58] Speaker 1: whole lot of people out there who were posting the
[5:01] Speaker 1: counter argument like, oh yeah, Alabama, they got them right
[5:06] Speaker 1: where they won them. I didn't see any of that
[5:09] Speaker 1: out there, so the observation was wrong. I think everybody
[5:12] Speaker 1: had the same observation, albeit mine might have been a
[5:15] Speaker 1: little bit more public, a little bit too soon. But
[5:20] Speaker 1: I deserve to take the medicine, and I did.
[5:22] Speaker 2: Okay, let's talk about the game. Let's talk about what
[5:25] Speaker 2: transpired between the sidelines.
[5:28] Speaker 1: I think a couple things are true at once. We
[5:31] Speaker 1: would agree that Alabama got off to a terrible start. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
[5:36] Speaker 1: We would agree that after that terrible start, the manner
[5:40] Speaker 1: in which Alabama came back when on a thirty four
[5:43] Speaker 1: to seven run the remainder of the game and just
[5:46] Speaker 1: dominated Oklahoma through and through, we would agree that they
[5:49] Speaker 1: deserve all the flowers for that. Yes, oh yeah it was.
[5:53] Speaker 2: It was a terrific regrouping from Alabama and figuring out,
[5:57] Speaker 2: Look the difference in this game, in this ten point
[6:01] Speaker 2: spread between these two teams. I mean, look, there was
[6:03] Speaker 2: a lot of differences after those seventeen nothing after the
[6:05] Speaker 2: seventeen nothing start, but you had the sort of horrible
[6:10] Speaker 2: punt situation that I guess Alabama sort of fell into
[6:14] Speaker 2: a blocked punt and got a field goal out of that,
[6:16] Speaker 2: I believe, on that short field and they baited I
[6:19] Speaker 2: think it was which corner was it. It wasn't Domanti Jackson,
[6:24] Speaker 2: but corner for Alabama baited Jeoh Matier into a pick
[6:30] Speaker 2: six and there's your ten points. And it was terrific.
[6:34] Speaker 1: It was a turnabout fair play, to be honest with you,
[6:40] Speaker 1: because if we think back to that first matchup, what
[6:43] Speaker 1: did we talk about, Oklahoma got seventeen points off of
[6:46] Speaker 1: Alabama mistakes, Yes, and baby and Brown by the way,
[6:50] Speaker 1: this time around, it was Alabama that was able to
[6:53] Speaker 1: take advantage of those mistakes. So they go down seventeen
[6:56] Speaker 1: the zip. We can debate whether or not we think
[6:58] Speaker 1: Oklahoma is any good. That's a conversation for another day.
[7:01] Speaker 1: But Oklahoma was up and Oklahoma's got a good defense,
[7:05] Speaker 1: and in theory, it wouldn't have taken much more to
[7:08] Speaker 1: fully put Alabama out of their misery at that point
[7:11] Speaker 1: in time. So Bama on the road at night eighty
[7:15] Speaker 1: three thousand, screaming fans against a good defense, it could
[7:18] Speaker 1: have gone sideways. The fact that they managed to turn
[7:22] Speaker 1: things around to recapture momentum and go on that kind
[7:25] Speaker 1: of a run I thought was a damn good effort
[7:28] Speaker 1: from the top on down, from Kalin de Bor right
[7:31] Speaker 1: on through the starting roster. Because like early on they
[7:34] Speaker 1: couldn't pressure John Matteir and they were talking about it
[7:37] Speaker 1: on the broadcast, but then they changed, they made some adjustments.
[7:40] Speaker 1: They come away with five sacks. Early on they were
[7:43] Speaker 1: showing the up close visual of ty Simpson's eyes and
[7:48] Speaker 1: his feet and everything seemed out of whack, like he
[7:50] Speaker 1: was seeing ghosts. And then he cal him down correct
[7:54] Speaker 1: and he got better. And so I think we can't
[7:57] Speaker 1: start this conversation in ernest without paying homage to the
[8:03] Speaker 1: job that Alabama did here.
[8:05] Speaker 2: Well, this is, by the way, this is this is
[8:08] Speaker 2: also umbrella before kickoff of like Michigan is convinced that
[8:13] Speaker 2: it can make a run at Kaylan de bor pending
[8:15] Speaker 2: what's happening in this game to whatever veracity, but that
[8:19] Speaker 2: is you know, being reported by Pete Thamill before kickoff
[8:21] Speaker 2: that this game has implications for the Michigan coaching surf,
[8:25] Speaker 2: potential coaching search potentially if Kaylen de borr and Alabama
[8:28] Speaker 2: aren't able to go on the road and come away
[8:30] Speaker 2: with a win, that they feel confident that Alabama's not
[8:32] Speaker 2: going to be super keen on then heaping a huge
[8:35] Speaker 2: extension a new deal on Kalen de bor losing in
[8:38] Speaker 2: the first round, especially after losing in the manner that
[8:40] Speaker 2: they did to Georgia and the SEC championship game. So
[8:43] Speaker 2: like that is that is sort of hovering over this
[8:45] Speaker 2: game as well going into it. And Alabama looked tight,
[8:48] Speaker 2: Ty Simpson looked tight. The protection wasn't there. They couldn't
[8:52] Speaker 2: figure out a you know, nobody's been able to figure
[8:54] Speaker 2: out the Oklahoma pass rush this year because it's been
[8:56] Speaker 2: excellent and overwhelming ninety five percent of the time. This
[9:00] Speaker 2: obviously an Oklahoma team led by its defense. But you're right,
[9:03] Speaker 2: they calm down, they hit plays down the field. It
[9:06] Speaker 2: was I think it was Latzier Brooks was a catalyst
[9:09] Speaker 2: for this team. We mentioned the pick six and that
[9:12] Speaker 2: quick field goal, which, like Alabama hadn't done anything really
[9:15] Speaker 2: in the first half consistently, but it was seventeen all
[9:17] Speaker 2: at the half, correct, seventeen doll at the half.
[9:20] Speaker 1: So it and that brings me sort of, I think,
[9:22] Speaker 1: to the other side of this, because I don't think
[9:25] Speaker 1: we can earnestly talk about Alabama beating Oklahoma without at
[9:30] Speaker 1: least talking a little bit about Oklahoma beating itself, because
[9:34] Speaker 1: this was a big part of the game too, and
[9:35] Speaker 1: you've alluded to it a couple times over. I am
[9:37] Speaker 1: not saying this is the only reason why Alabama won, Okay,
[9:42] Speaker 1: I thought what Alabama did to come in to recapture
[9:45] Speaker 1: the momentum and kind of turn the tide little punt,
[9:48] Speaker 1: I thought that was outstanding and absolutely a good way
[9:54] Speaker 1: to start off this playoff run. So kudos to them.
[9:58] Speaker 1: Alabama did get some breaks in this one, just the
[10:00] Speaker 1: way that Oklahoma did the first time round. You mentioned
[10:03] Speaker 1: the punter dropped the punt, not even boy just dropped it.
[10:08] Speaker 1: They fell on it. They turned that into points. There
[10:12] Speaker 1: was also the pick six, which you mentioned earlier. Right
[10:15] Speaker 1: out of my College Football twenty sixth dynasty. I throw
[10:18] Speaker 1: that pass. I have seen that go back for six.
[10:22] Speaker 1: That was a bad decision by John Mattire. The other
[10:24] Speaker 1: one that you didn't mention was a play I think
[10:28] Speaker 1: about four thirty left in the first half. Mattier evades
[10:33] Speaker 1: a pass rush, makes a nice move to get away
[10:35] Speaker 1: from a defender, rolls out to his left, throws kind
[10:38] Speaker 1: of back across his body down the field. Zavid Robinson's
[10:41] Speaker 1: wide open may not have been a perfect pass, but
[10:44] Speaker 1: it was blown coverage. If he catches it, it's a
[10:47] Speaker 1: walk in touchdown, but he drops it. Those three plays,
[10:51] Speaker 1: in my mind, were the ones that flipped everything.
[10:54] Speaker 2: There were You're right, and there were both ways there were.
[10:58] Speaker 2: I mean, there was the Jermy or Nard in the
[11:00] Speaker 2: second half wide open drop. There was the overthrow early
[11:04] Speaker 2: on from John Mattie. Like there the passing game, and
[11:07] Speaker 2: I'd sort of half attribute this to just the time off.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Oklahoma's been off obviously longer than Alabama, but as well
[11:15] Speaker 2: as it seemed Oklahoma was playing man watching John Mattier
[11:20] Speaker 2: when he knew it was a pass, when it was
[11:22] Speaker 2: an obvious passing situation, or he knew he had to
[11:25] Speaker 2: go through progressions. It was very rare, if ever, where
[11:30] Speaker 2: he dropped back and didn't spaz out a little bit.
[11:34] Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of a better word for the
[11:37] Speaker 2: discomfort that he seemed to feel in the pocket. And
[11:41] Speaker 2: obviously leader and playmaker and rolls out and improvises his
[11:46] Speaker 2: sensational runner, obviously with the ball in his head, like,
[11:49] Speaker 2: but there is something about the calm nature of excellent
[11:53] Speaker 2: quarterbacks that I don't think John Matteer possesses, at least
[11:57] Speaker 2: not in the bigger games that Oklahoma has played. And
[11:59] Speaker 2: I don't know if that's a design thing, I don't
[12:01] Speaker 2: know if that's a teaching thing, But the number of
[12:04] Speaker 2: plays where he dropped back and calmly and in a
[12:07] Speaker 2: rhythm stepped into the pocket and threw the ball confidently
[12:11] Speaker 2: down the field, if that happened twice, I think I
[12:14] Speaker 2: may have missed it right that, Like, there was something
[12:17] Speaker 2: a little bit too spastic for me to feel comfortable.
[12:19] Speaker 2: And that's how you get to you know, score. You know,
[12:23] Speaker 2: however many points per drive that Oklahoma's ending up you know,
[12:26] Speaker 2: in like the eighties this season, and so for them
[12:28] Speaker 2: to get this far with this lack of confident offense
[12:32] Speaker 2: I think is pretty impressive.
[12:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the best of Jo Materier is really exciting.
[12:36] Speaker 1: But I would say on the whole, what I saw
[12:39] Speaker 1: from him in this game is something that we have
[12:41] Speaker 1: seen from time to time throughout the course of the year,
[12:44] Speaker 1: and that is there's also a lot of dude perfect
[12:47] Speaker 1: in his passing game. You know, where he's changing our
[12:49] Speaker 1: angles and he's doing some sort of weird stuff. He
[12:52] Speaker 1: threw a couple like fade away passes in this game
[12:56] Speaker 1: where he's not like driving his momentum through so mechanically
[12:59] Speaker 1: they're some I think some rough edges there. I'm not
[13:03] Speaker 1: a quarterback coach nor a quarterback expert. I just play
[13:06] Speaker 1: one on the podcast, but watched enough football to know
[13:09] Speaker 1: what usually works and what usually doesn't. And yeah, definitely
[13:14] Speaker 1: some moments watching the tier. All that being said, it's
[13:19] Speaker 1: not been a great Oklahoma offenses here. This wasn't the
[13:23] Speaker 1: worst showing that I've seen from the Oklahoma offense. Way
[13:27] Speaker 1: very Materier dependent, but the best of him is really good.
[13:31] Speaker 1: We saw some really good, incredible catch by Dion Burks
[13:35] Speaker 1: on the sidelines. They didn't really get Isaiah Satania going.
[13:39] Speaker 1: He did have a touchdown, but only like two for
[13:42] Speaker 1: seventeen on six targets. So that was one guy we
[13:45] Speaker 1: were watching because he's been such a big play threat
[13:48] Speaker 1: for this Oklahoma offense. I didn't think the Oklahoma offense
[13:51] Speaker 1: was bad, but the Alabama defense just did such a
[13:54] Speaker 1: good job forcing third downs. I think I saw something
[13:57] Speaker 1: like Oklahoma had fourteen total drives and eight team third
[14:00] Speaker 1: down attempts. They went something like seven of eight on
[14:03] Speaker 1: third downs, so even that wasn't horrible, but the Alabama
[14:05] Speaker 1: defense just did a really good job forcing them to
[14:08] Speaker 1: get to that third down scenario. And as we'll talk
[14:11] Speaker 1: about here in the next game when we get to Miami,
[14:13] Speaker 1: Texas A and m just forcing those third downs puts
[14:16] Speaker 1: your defense and your team in a position to win
[14:19] Speaker 1: field position, to wield win time of possession, to get
[14:22] Speaker 1: some points on the board. So that was a very
[14:24] Speaker 1: key element to the way that Alabama attacked this offense,
[14:28] Speaker 1: mostly in the second half of this game.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Well, but also should mention Alabama's pass rush has not
[14:34] Speaker 2: been excellent this year. They kind of got that going
[14:37] Speaker 2: in the second half of they did one they did
[14:39] Speaker 2: they really seemed to rotating multiple guys off of edges
[14:43] Speaker 2: playing some pass rush games. They really start getting to
[14:46] Speaker 2: Matier and disrupting an Oklahoma offensive line that at best
[14:51] Speaker 2: was probably up and down this season, obviously improved, but
[14:54] Speaker 2: in terms of like what this Oklahoma offense wants to do,
[14:57] Speaker 2: dropping John Matteer back and going through progressions in getting
[15:01] Speaker 2: to third and eights thirty nine, Alabama had Oklahoma exactly
[15:04] Speaker 2: where they wanted to be. And you could see that
[15:07] Speaker 2: comfort and aggression from Alabama up front without having to
[15:10] Speaker 2: send extra dudes, right they were getting pressure with just
[15:13] Speaker 2: the guys on the line, and it really seemed to
[15:16] Speaker 2: rattle Oklahoma. And by the way, by the way, Tate
[15:20] Speaker 2: Sandel's incredible. He's an incredible kicker. He won the gross
[15:24] Speaker 2: did he not? Yes windy night Friday night in Norman.
[15:28] Speaker 2: Obviously Oklahoma had shots at the end of this game.
[15:31] Speaker 2: I'm not putting it on him because this offense wasn't
[15:34] Speaker 2: performing in the second half. I actually appreciated when they
[15:37] Speaker 2: were going for those field goals. They miss a short
[15:41] Speaker 2: field goal that goes sort of above I think it
[15:43] Speaker 2: was a thirty six yard or so that goes above
[15:46] Speaker 2: and slightly to the left of one of the uprights.
[15:50] Speaker 2: And the whole stadium wasn't shock because he missed a
[15:53] Speaker 2: field goal, gets the ball back still down ten Oklahoma
[15:57] Speaker 2: gets the ball by the ball back goes for something
[15:59] Speaker 2: from like fifty some midd yards. Yeah, it comes up short,
[16:02] Speaker 2: and it comes up short the winster.
[16:04] Speaker 1: By the way, are we sure he missed that field goal?
[16:08] Speaker 2: I don't think there was anywhere near enough evidence right that,
[16:12] Speaker 2: like the I mean, the refs are staring straight up
[16:15] Speaker 2: the upright. I didn't see enough evidence to be like, oh,
[16:20] Speaker 2: that was definitely fully inside, right, that's the rule. Yeah,
[16:23] Speaker 2: the ball has to be fully inside. And I don't
[16:27] Speaker 2: think there was enough evidence to really examine.
[16:29] Speaker 1: Why can't they just make the uprights bigger?
[16:32] Speaker 2: How big? Tie? How big? I think there's physics involved.
[16:35] Speaker 2: And when I tell you I got to be minus
[16:37] Speaker 2: in physics in high school, Tie, your boy Dan gotta.
[16:40] Speaker 1: Be minus in physics. But yes, continue, fair enough. Your
[16:43] Speaker 1: final score here was thirty four to twenty four in
[16:46] Speaker 1: favor of Oklahoma. It was not the prettiest showing by
[16:50] Speaker 1: any stretch of the imagination. But I do think they
[16:53] Speaker 1: showed a lot of toughness. This is a hostile setting,
[16:56] Speaker 1: these Friday games. I mean, we saw it last year
[16:58] Speaker 1: with Notre Dame in Indiana. It's a very loud, very
[17:02] Speaker 1: raucous environment to kick off the playoff, the first round
[17:06] Speaker 1: of the playoff, and to go into another stadium and
[17:09] Speaker 1: win a game like that in that Friday night primetime setting.
[17:14] Speaker 1: I look, you gotta give them credit. You absolutely have
[17:16] Speaker 1: to give him credit. It was a great season for Oklahoma.
[17:19] Speaker 1: Alabama moves on now to play in the Rose Bowl
[17:22] Speaker 1: on New Year's Day at four pm Eastern time. It
[17:25] Speaker 1: changed the start time. Indiana is a seven point favorite
[17:31] Speaker 1: at time of recording. I have seen that juggle around
[17:35] Speaker 1: a little bit. I saw it dipped to six and
[17:37] Speaker 1: a half. We'll have to monitor over the next ten
[17:39] Speaker 1: days whatever it is, see if that line moves at all.
[17:44] Speaker 1: We will be doing our playoff preview for the quarterfinals
[17:47] Speaker 1: that drops next Sunday, so we've got some time to
[17:51] Speaker 1: sit and digest and think about all this game, all
[17:53] Speaker 1: these actions, all this game action. Excuse me, but also
[17:57] Speaker 1: react to whatever point spread it ends up being when
[18:00] Speaker 1: we recorded at the end of the week, so you know,
[18:03] Speaker 1: we'll have a time and place to talk about that game.
[18:06] Speaker 1: It is certainly intriguing on about a thousand different levels.
[18:11] Speaker 1: But I think it's a really exciting matchup. I'm really
[18:16] Speaker 1: excited to see what that one looks like. It's a
[18:17] Speaker 1: big deal for both these teams.
[18:19] Speaker 2: And by the way, Kurt Signetty former Obama coach, Klen Deborr,
[18:22] Speaker 2: former Indiana.
[18:23] Speaker 1: Coach, I know, so I'm saying, man, a lot of
[18:25] Speaker 1: connective tissue, a lot of connective tissue.
[18:27] Speaker 2: And just to put a bow on it, Ty, I
[18:29] Speaker 2: regret nothing I said about Alabama and getting into this tournament,
[18:33] Speaker 2: this invitational, this TV show. I retract nothing. I regret nothing.
[18:37] Speaker 2: The ends don't justify the means. Alabama was better than
[18:40] Speaker 2: Oklahoma in Tuscaloosa, they were better than Oklahoma here and
[18:43] Speaker 2: they proved it and they won, and it's good for
[18:45] Speaker 2: Alabama and it was a sensational showing. But the ends
[18:48] Speaker 2: do not justify the means. It is a farce that
[18:50] Speaker 2: they're in this TV show. How about that.
[18:53] Speaker 1: I'm not even going there anymore. You should not listen.
[18:57] Speaker 1: I'm over it. I'm over it. Don't be scared of
[18:59] Speaker 1: internet needs TI come on, scaredy the Internet. We need it.
[19:02] Speaker 1: Sounds like you are I'm not. I'm just I'm I'm
[19:06] Speaker 1: a broken man. Okay, okay, I'm broken, and I am
[19:10] Speaker 1: taking this game in a vacuum. I thought Alabama came
[19:14] Speaker 1: back impressively. So I don't know what that means for
[19:18] Speaker 1: the future of the College Football Playoff, either in twenty
[19:21] Speaker 1: twenty six or just here in twenty twenty five, but
[19:24] Speaker 1: A wins away and in thirty four to twenty four you
[19:27] Speaker 1: will take that on the road at night again. Eighty three,
[19:29] Speaker 1: five hundred and fifty was the official attendance.
[19:31] Speaker 2: O Man and Oklahoma lost to US sponsors exemption continue.
[19:36] Speaker 1: Set all all right, Speaking of SEC teams, we had
[19:40] Speaker 1: another one. This game was played earlier today as we
[19:43] Speaker 1: record this on Saturday evening, Miami came to Texas, A
[19:49] Speaker 1: and M What is your preferred nomenclature for this game,
[19:53] Speaker 1: because we can go slugfest, slobber knocker, rock fight, knife fight,
[19:57] Speaker 1: bar fight, field goal fest fest, or of attrition? What
[20:01] Speaker 1: are you into? Do you do? You have something that
[20:03] Speaker 1: came to mind as you were watching this game as
[20:06] Speaker 1: you were preparing for this show.
[20:08] Speaker 2: Wounded sumo. Right, I don't know. That's pretty good, right,
[20:14] Speaker 2: So there's a lot of hef to this game, right,
[20:17] Speaker 2: you have the wounds of just like an inability of
[20:21] Speaker 2: Miami to get anything going offensively. The wounds maybe emotionally
[20:25] Speaker 2: and mentally from Texas A and M and the mistakes
[20:28] Speaker 2: that they, you know, committed on offense. But even still,
[20:32] Speaker 2: there was enough heft and aggression in the trenches going
[20:37] Speaker 2: both directions. Really, Oh oh yeah, that I'm comfortable saying
[20:43] Speaker 2: that Miami was the superior wounded sumo.
[20:46] Speaker 1: This was a demolition derby. Sure. It was zero zero
[20:50] Speaker 1: at half. Everybody online was posting the Frank Beamer.
[20:53] Speaker 2: You know which one I mean, of course, Well, because
[20:55] Speaker 2: I want to say who who scored first in this one.
[21:00] Speaker 2: Emmy scored first, Miami scored first. I think we had
[21:04] Speaker 2: the Mario pose. I don't know if it was after
[21:06] Speaker 2: a blocked field. There was some moment where he had
[21:09] Speaker 2: the pose. I believe Mario had the Beamer pose.
[21:13] Speaker 1: It was zero zero at half. It was three to
[21:15] Speaker 1: three until late in the game when Miami scored to
[21:18] Speaker 1: go ahead touchdown with a little under four minutes left
[21:21] Speaker 1: in the game. The win played a huge factor. Yeah,
[21:24] Speaker 1: this game, kickers were two of six in total. Miami's
[21:28] Speaker 1: Carter Davis missed three field goals. He kicked one. I
[21:30] Speaker 1: believe it was his second miss, and you and I
[21:33] Speaker 1: were chatting about this one on slack. He kicked the ball,
[21:37] Speaker 1: it looked like it was online and then it got
[21:40] Speaker 1: hit by the wind whipping off the planes, just a
[21:43] Speaker 1: wall of something that pushed it wide right. It was
[21:47] Speaker 1: the second miss on the day. He also had a
[21:49] Speaker 1: doink at some point or another. It was really rough
[21:53] Speaker 1: for the kickers. I don't even blame them. It was
[21:56] Speaker 1: really windy out there.
[21:57] Speaker 2: And my twenties is what I thought. I want to say,
[22:01] Speaker 2: who was doing this game? McDonough and McDonald leroy, Yeah, yeah,
[22:04] Speaker 2: that's what they were pointing to near thirty mile an
[22:06] Speaker 2: hour wins.
[22:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, and I thought McElroy, to his credit, it just
[22:10] Speaker 1: as I was thinking it. McDonough asks the question, Hey, Greg,
[22:16] Speaker 1: when you're playing quarterback in wins like this, what does
[22:20] Speaker 1: it do to the deep ball. It was right after
[22:23] Speaker 1: Carson Beck airmailed a ball to somebody I forget who,
[22:27] Speaker 1: who had a step on a Texas A and M defender.
[22:30] Speaker 1: It was way over his head. He clearly didn't want
[22:32] Speaker 1: to underthrow it dealing with wind, and that's why it
[22:35] Speaker 1: was just, you know, way over the guy's head and
[22:39] Speaker 1: McElroy brought it up. He was like, look, it's really tough.
[22:42] Speaker 1: It's different if you've got sustained wins in one direction,
[22:45] Speaker 1: but that was not the case in Kyle Field. You
[22:47] Speaker 1: had swirling wins that were all over the place. It
[22:49] Speaker 1: kept changing direction, it kept intensifying as the game wore on.
[22:54] Speaker 1: So this was a real challenge and I think that's
[22:56] Speaker 1: at least part of the reason why Carson Beck had
[22:58] Speaker 1: one hundred and three yards past. They didn't even really
[23:02] Speaker 1: resort to trying to stretch the field all that much
[23:05] Speaker 1: through the air. Thankfully, they had Mark Fletcher, who had
[23:09] Speaker 1: a terrific game on the ground for the Canes, and
[23:12] Speaker 1: we could talk through that here.
[23:13] Speaker 2: Almost in spite of Shannon Dawson and the Miami offensive
[23:18] Speaker 2: brain trust, like it feels very counter to like the
[23:22] Speaker 2: ideal of Miami football under Mario Christobal, which is just
[23:25] Speaker 2: mashing teams and wearing them down and then maybe hitting
[23:28] Speaker 2: play action situations to a tight end or in this
[23:31] Speaker 2: case Malachai Toni. They went away from Mark Fletcher, who
[23:34] Speaker 2: I think was averaging even before that long run that
[23:36] Speaker 2: helped to ice things near the end and set up
[23:39] Speaker 2: that score. He was averaging like eight yards of carry,
[23:42] Speaker 2: especially running between the tackles, and obviously they went to
[23:45] Speaker 2: him in that moment. I was like, fifty sixty yard run.
[23:47] Speaker 2: But it was weird that Mark Fletcher went as long
[23:51] Speaker 2: as he did without consistently getting the rock.
[23:54] Speaker 1: I kind of feel like we nailed the preview for
[23:57] Speaker 1: this one, and I.
[23:59] Speaker 2: Say I didn't fully, but continue, well, we had elements of.
[24:03] Speaker 1: This game, right. I think we had the right idea.
[24:05] Speaker 1: We both thought there'd be more points. There's no way
[24:07] Speaker 1: anyone predicted ten three. I think you had twenty seventeen.
[24:11] Speaker 1: I thought it would be quasi shootout, and I had
[24:16] Speaker 1: it at thirty eight thirty five. But we definitely figured
[24:19] Speaker 1: on this one being a close, physical game, and for
[24:24] Speaker 1: my part, I called out big plays and who was
[24:28] Speaker 1: going to get more of them and Miami's offensive line,
[24:32] Speaker 1: and both of those absolutely came into play. So if
[24:34] Speaker 1: you look back at this game, A and M did
[24:37] Speaker 1: have a fifty nine yard pass to Mario Craver and
[24:40] Speaker 1: four other plays over ten yards, but nothing over twenty. No,
[24:44] Speaker 1: Miami had the fifty six yard run by Mark Fletcher
[24:48] Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, which set up the game winning touchdown.
[24:50] Speaker 1: For my money, that was kind of the turning point
[24:52] Speaker 1: of the game, at least the latter half of the game.
[24:55] Speaker 1: But beyond that, eight plays of more than ten yards,
[24:57] Speaker 1: two for more than twenty So Miami had a slight
[25:01] Speaker 1: edge with respect to getting those big plays, those chunk
[25:06] Speaker 1: plays that can turn field position on its head, give
[25:10] Speaker 1: a team a certain amount of momentum. And on the
[25:13] Speaker 1: Miami offensive line front, you can make a really strong
[25:16] Speaker 1: case that Mark Fletcher was the difference in this one.
[25:18] Speaker 1: He finished seventeen for one to seventy two, averaged a
[25:21] Speaker 1: shade over ten per carry. He was the one who
[25:24] Speaker 1: I thought gave the Kines the biggest lyft on offense
[25:27] Speaker 1: down the stretch. He was running hard. I mean, as
[25:31] Speaker 1: I said, Carson Beck only threw for a shade over
[25:33] Speaker 1: one hundred yards. They were reliant to some extent on
[25:36] Speaker 1: Mark Fletcher ripping off some of those big runs putting
[25:39] Speaker 1: them in position. And so this was not necessarily what
[25:43] Speaker 1: we all had on the Bingo card, because despite the
[25:46] Speaker 1: fact A and M's had a bit of a tendency
[25:48] Speaker 1: to give up some big plays this year, both through
[25:50] Speaker 1: the air and on the ground, Mark Fletcher, amid some
[25:55] Speaker 1: of the other talent that this Cane's roster has sometimes
[25:59] Speaker 1: fades into the background, not for lack of performance, but
[26:02] Speaker 1: just because there are a lot of other more exciting
[26:04] Speaker 1: names to talk about when we do recaps like this.
[26:07] Speaker 1: But Mark Fletcher did his part. His mom was going
[26:10] Speaker 1: crazy in the stands, which was a cool. Yeah.
[26:12] Speaker 2: They were talking about how she was driving all over
[26:13] Speaker 2: the country for his games.
[26:14] Speaker 1: What's detail from McDonough talk about a pros pro talking
[26:18] Speaker 1: about how she drove from Miami to the colgame.
[26:22] Speaker 2: Should say to the Bay Area? Yeah, for the wild
[26:24] Speaker 2: game against the Bears.
[26:26] Speaker 1: Yeah. How long of a drive is that?
[26:28] Speaker 2: If you go straight through and you have cold brew
[26:32] Speaker 2: that's likely illegal in most states, you could probably do
[26:35] Speaker 2: it in a couple days and fifty some odd hours.
[26:38] Speaker 2: I don't know, crazy, but early Okay. Here was the
[26:42] Speaker 2: story of the game to me. The story of the
[26:45] Speaker 2: game to me was the matchup between Miami's defensive line
[26:50] Speaker 2: against what seemed to be a confident Texas A and
[26:52] Speaker 2: M offensive line, and then what they were able to
[26:56] Speaker 2: do to Marcel Reid, what they were able to do
[26:58] Speaker 2: to affect the comfort levels of this Texas A and
[27:01] Speaker 2: M offense. I did not love how this game was
[27:04] Speaker 2: called by Colin Kleine. New Kansas State head coach. Colin Klein,
[27:06] Speaker 2: by the way, didn't like the game plan in this one.
[27:09] Speaker 2: And even so when Marcel Reid just sort of could
[27:13] Speaker 2: play with just id right going down the field late
[27:17] Speaker 2: in this game to set up a potential tying touchdown,
[27:20] Speaker 2: aided of course by some mental lapses from the Miami defense,
[27:25] Speaker 2: they made plays and until that point though ruben Bain
[27:30] Speaker 2: was everywhere, Key Mesidor was everywhere. I thought the linebackers
[27:33] Speaker 2: were sensational. Obviously, was it Bryce Fitzgerald who had an
[27:38] Speaker 2: interception early I think on an overthrow and then had
[27:41] Speaker 2: the game ceiling intercept for freshman I believe, Yeah, So
[27:46] Speaker 2: I just on all three levels this defense was. It
[27:49] Speaker 2: was an outstanding game plan for Miami. They suffocated an
[27:52] Speaker 2: overwhelmed Texas A and m upfront A and IM couldn't
[27:54] Speaker 2: do anything on the ground. That to me was the
[27:56] Speaker 2: difference is play to play Miami. It was just a
[28:00] Speaker 2: wrecking ball up front and still had the opportunity to
[28:04] Speaker 2: lose this game with Marcel red driving to tie this game.
[28:07] Speaker 2: And it was a great couple plays, by the way,
[28:10] Speaker 2: because there was a break a pass breakup play and before.
[28:13] Speaker 1: Was the pass breakup targeting. It was a hard hit.
[28:18] Speaker 2: It was a hard hit with a very specific part
[28:21] Speaker 2: of the crown.
[28:22] Speaker 1: I don't know. I was I was curious that nobody
[28:25] Speaker 1: mentioned that or why nobody mentioned that, And it kind
[28:33] Speaker 1: of looked like targeting to me. It's not even to
[28:35] Speaker 1: say that. Even if they call it Texas A and
[28:37] Speaker 1: M gets the points and they win the game or
[28:39] Speaker 1: a tie the game, in this case, I thought that
[28:43] Speaker 1: was It kind of looked like targeting to me, and
[28:44] Speaker 1: nobody talked to it, just like everybody panned it. Nothing
[28:47] Speaker 1: to see here.
[28:48] Speaker 2: It's like, okay, I'd have to watch it back again. Yeah,
[28:51] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[28:52] Speaker 1: I would like to see more of it. I only
[28:54] Speaker 1: watched it like seventy five times on replay before we
[28:57] Speaker 1: hit record. Okay, but know that to me was a bit.
[29:02] Speaker 2: Curious, but I would I would have liked to see
[29:05] Speaker 2: more in the way of creatively utilizing marcel Reads athleticism
[29:11] Speaker 2: in that spot right, that is where he is so elusive,
[29:14] Speaker 2: that's where he's so great improvising where you have to
[29:17] Speaker 2: respect his feet and his athleticism to such a crazy
[29:21] Speaker 2: degree that I was disappointed with not that they were
[29:25] Speaker 2: asking him to pass it in that spot, but it
[29:28] Speaker 2: seemed like a very plain way to try and score.
[29:31] Speaker 1: I've completely agree, completely agree, So let me throw this
[29:35] Speaker 1: out there just to put a ball on what you're
[29:37] Speaker 1: talking about with Miami's defensive front. I are seven sacks
[29:42] Speaker 1: excuse me of Marcel read A, Key Mesidor and Reuben
[29:46] Speaker 1: Bain combined for four and a half of those seven.
[29:49] Speaker 1: They are ridiculous. I am crazy curious to see what
[29:53] Speaker 1: that matchup books like against Ohio State. I think it's
[29:56] Speaker 1: going to be fascinating when they play a little bit
[29:58] Speaker 1: later on this.
[29:59] Speaker 2: Year, especially with what Ohio State didn't look like up
[30:04] Speaker 2: front on offense against Indiana. And basically they're only true
[30:08] Speaker 2: test after that Texas game in terms of playing a
[30:11] Speaker 2: truly ferocious defense. All due respect to Penn State, they
[30:14] Speaker 2: just were not that team this year. So yes, that's
[30:18] Speaker 2: going to be an incredible match and that's indoors, so
[30:21] Speaker 2: we won't have to be dealing with any sort of
[30:22] Speaker 2: wind issues. They're playing that one at Jerry World correct.
[30:26] Speaker 1: Thank god the wind. So the other thing that I
[30:28] Speaker 1: would mention, just while we're talking about the defense in
[30:32] Speaker 1: this matchup, both units were awesome on first and second down.
[30:37] Speaker 1: Miami had a total of twelve drives. A and M
[30:40] Speaker 1: forced twelve third down tries. They average one per drive.
[30:44] Speaker 1: They were only three of twelve, so they weren't a
[30:46] Speaker 1: great third down team in this one at all. A
[30:48] Speaker 1: and M had eleven drives and eighteen third down tries.
[30:52] Speaker 1: They went eight of eighteen. So both defenses were keeping
[30:56] Speaker 1: their opponent off schedule forcing some of those third down situations.
[31:01] Speaker 1: And again, just like I said with the previous matchup,
[31:04] Speaker 1: you force those third downs, it gives your offense and
[31:07] Speaker 1: opportunity to get better field position, to get a little
[31:10] Speaker 1: bit of momentum, if nothing more, get the defense off
[31:12] Speaker 1: the field. So you know, this was I thought a
[31:19] Speaker 1: game that when a much different direction than we thought,
[31:22] Speaker 1: even though we got some of the key elements right.
[31:25] Speaker 1: And the way that Miami sort of found itself in
[31:27] Speaker 1: the second half, it screams that Miami found itself in
[31:32] Speaker 1: the second half when you look at some of the
[31:34] Speaker 1: advanced stats. Two point eight yards per play in the
[31:36] Speaker 1: first half, eight point seven yards per play in the
[31:39] Speaker 1: second half, So they've definitely figured something out. They are
[31:42] Speaker 1: moving on again. Your final here was a ten to
[31:45] Speaker 1: three thriller in College Station. Texas Miami, now, as we mentioned,
[31:51] Speaker 1: is going to square off against Ohio State in the
[31:54] Speaker 1: Cotton Bowl. It is on New Year's Eve, seven pm
[31:58] Speaker 1: Eastern time. The early line is Ohio State minus nine
[32:02] Speaker 1: and one half points. Stan, Wow, that's a numbers.
[32:06] Speaker 2: My final two thoughts in this one, by the way,
[32:09] Speaker 2: is ultimately I think I came away pretty like whatever
[32:13] Speaker 2: the wind is, whatever the passing game is, whatever. The
[32:15] Speaker 2: a rhythmic nature of Carson Beck today was Mario Chris
[32:20] Speaker 2: Baal made decisions in this one in short yarded situations,
[32:23] Speaker 2: in go kick moments. You know, they had the short
[32:27] Speaker 2: kick I want to say it was like a twenty
[32:28] Speaker 2: six yard kick or whatever on fourth and goal. That
[32:33] Speaker 2: sort of underscored his thought that this Texas A and
[32:37] Speaker 2: M offense, for lack of a better term, wasn't shit right.
[32:41] Speaker 2: The decisions he made were like, if we pin them
[32:43] Speaker 2: inside their twenty five, they're just not gonna be able
[32:45] Speaker 2: to drive the ball at all. Yeah, And so that
[32:47] Speaker 2: was his calculus and his thinking in those decisions. It
[32:50] Speaker 2: nearly came back to bite them on that final drive
[32:53] Speaker 2: to tie it.
[32:55] Speaker 1: I messaged you, what's this defense? Right now. I didn't.
[32:58] Speaker 1: I didn't get it. They're going to lose.
[33:01] Speaker 2: But I guess you can't argue with the final result,
[33:07] Speaker 2: right that Mario Chrisal made those decisions based on thinking
[33:12] Speaker 2: and believing with his whole heart that Miami's defense could
[33:17] Speaker 2: not be trounced, and for the most part, he was right.
[33:24] Speaker 2: The other thing I just to put a bowl on
[33:25] Speaker 2: this whole thing is Notre Dame's not in this playoff
[33:28] Speaker 2: because they lost to a team who scored zero touchdowns
[33:30] Speaker 2: in the playoffs.
[33:32] Speaker 1: Right.
[33:34] Speaker 2: I wrote that, I did some like back of my
[33:36] Speaker 2: envelope math Notre Dame, both these teams. I know they
[33:39] Speaker 2: lost to both of these teams. But the Texas A
[33:41] Speaker 2: and m game was at home. It was after week one.
[33:43] Speaker 2: You had the opportunity to not give up forty one points. No, listen,
[33:47] Speaker 2: I'm not And that was a final Marcel Reid throw
[33:50] Speaker 2: to the end zone.
[33:51] Speaker 1: And this was a final Marcel read throw to the
[33:53] Speaker 1: end zone. I just saw.
[33:55] Speaker 2: I just saw some parallels here, and there's your there's
[33:58] Speaker 2: your bowl. They're not your Bowl game, there's your opening
[34:00] Speaker 2: round playoff win for Miami. Super impressive. Acc is on.
[34:03] Speaker 1: To the quarters. We both called it too. We both
[34:06] Speaker 1: we both did have Miami on the road, Yes, we did.
[34:08] Speaker 1: We did well on these. That brings us to the
[34:11] Speaker 1: other two games, Dan oh Miss forty one two lane ten.
[34:17] Speaker 1: We just want to we just went final in the
[34:19] Speaker 1: Oregon JMU game, HU fifty one to thirty four, or
[34:25] Speaker 1: if you won thirty four, fifty one to thirty four,
[34:27] Speaker 1: was your final? Oregon takes out James Madison.
[34:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't comment on exactly what happened in that
[34:33] Speaker 2: fourth quarter because we started our stream, but I saw
[34:36] Speaker 2: some Oregon that it wasn't all like starters out. There
[34:40] Speaker 2: were some guys in, but it was some you know,
[34:42] Speaker 2: third fourth string guys in the secondary making mistakes. And
[34:46] Speaker 2: that's on Dan Lanning, that's on Tosh Lupoi feeling like
[34:49] Speaker 2: they wanted to get some more depth the action in
[34:52] Speaker 2: this one. So it seems that Jamu kept fighting and
[34:55] Speaker 2: kept moving the ball against Oregon. Maybe it was against
[34:57] Speaker 2: some starters. I don't know, I haven't I haven't looked
[34:59] Speaker 2: at it yet, but I do know that when Oregon's
[35:03] Speaker 2: first string offense was in, Dante Moore had something like
[35:07] Speaker 2: seventeen yards per attempt deep into this game, and they
[35:11] Speaker 2: were getting whatever they wanted on offense, and they were
[35:14] Speaker 2: distancing themselves. I don't know if it was JMU actually
[35:17] Speaker 2: just like fighting back against good Oregon players, or if
[35:21] Speaker 2: it was Oregon, you know, taking their foot off the
[35:23] Speaker 2: gas a little bit too soon, but it did. For
[35:27] Speaker 2: the stretch I watched, it did seem like Oregon was
[35:30] Speaker 2: completely outclassing JMU, especially just the offensive players seem so
[35:34] Speaker 2: much faster than the foot speed of what JMU had
[35:36] Speaker 2: to offer on defense, and the Oregon defensive line seemed
[35:39] Speaker 2: to be overwhelming jmu's front on offense. But I'll go
[35:42] Speaker 2: back and watch this second half more closely.
[35:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, and for what it's worth, if you had JMU
[35:46] Speaker 1: plus the twenty one and.
[35:47] Speaker 2: A half, yeah, congratulations, you hit your bet. Decorian Moore
[35:52] Speaker 2: came back, Gary Bryant came back. Evan Stewart I think
[35:56] Speaker 2: is reportedly closer to coming back and it was listed
[35:59] Speaker 2: as questionable. All I want to say in this one,
[36:02] Speaker 2: so Decory Moore and Gary Bryant had missed about a
[36:06] Speaker 2: month after that Iowa game, and Oregon seems more robust
[36:13] Speaker 2: and versatile on offense when they're in there. They had
[36:15] Speaker 2: some long plays and so Oregon now gets Texas Tech
[36:18] Speaker 2: with a healthier offensive roster, and guys have been stepping
[36:22] Speaker 2: up Malik Benson and Jeremiah McClellan, and certainly they've been
[36:25] Speaker 2: rotating the running backs really well and the line seems
[36:27] Speaker 2: healthy after they were beat up.
[36:30] Speaker 1: Texas Tech. Game should be super fun in Miami. In Miami, yep,
[36:34] Speaker 1: it's Capitol and Orange Bowl. Look, I'm going to have
[36:37] Speaker 1: a conversation here in a second about G five and
[36:40] Speaker 1: its place in the current college football playoff structure. Right,
[36:45] Speaker 1: get to that in a second. What I'll say about
[36:47] Speaker 1: JMU A lot of pieces on this team that actually
[36:52] Speaker 1: really like I thought, Alonza Barnett, for his part, definitely
[36:57] Speaker 1: under assault from the Morgan defense. To put it mildly,
[37:03] Speaker 1: but nice player, got a lot of wiggle, was able
[37:07] Speaker 1: to make some guys miss had a touchdown on the
[37:09] Speaker 1: ground through for two seventy three and two scores, no interceptions. Okay,
[37:14] Speaker 1: sure they didn't win, they got blown out, but I
[37:17] Speaker 1: thought he quitted himself. Well, Wayne Knight, I can't where's
[37:22] Speaker 1: my sound? Hello? I had three people send me separately
[37:26] Speaker 1: messages asking me, wait, is that the Wayne Night? No,
[37:30] Speaker 1: it's not the Wayne Knight.
[37:31] Speaker 2: What do you mean the people were asking you if
[37:34] Speaker 2: the guy who's now in his sixties. Yeah, I want
[37:36] Speaker 2: to say, they're like.
[37:37] Speaker 1: Wait, is that the same No, it's not the same
[37:39] Speaker 1: way Night. What are we talking about here? I don't
[37:42] Speaker 1: know who has your numbers? See exactly? Yeah, No it's
[37:46] Speaker 1: not the same guy. Okay, funny name though, Wayne, good name,
[37:50] Speaker 1: and there's a Michael Scott on this roster to be
[37:52] Speaker 1: clear as well.
[37:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked good, So I look, I'm we will get.
[37:57] Speaker 1: To that part of the show. We will talk about
[37:59] Speaker 1: whether JAMU belongs here, whether it didn't belong here. Apparently
[38:03] Speaker 1: they kept fighting. Fifty one to thirty four was the
[38:05] Speaker 1: final when we came on the air. I think it
[38:08] Speaker 1: was just forty something to twenty six, right, So they
[38:13] Speaker 1: have been fighting their way through here. They made it
[38:15] Speaker 1: to this game. They were on the road. Bob Chesney,
[38:18] Speaker 1: now is going to be off to UCLA and Oregon
[38:21] Speaker 1: is going to square off against Texas Tech and the
[38:23] Speaker 1: Capitol One Orange Bowl. You care to venture a guess
[38:25] Speaker 1: on what that projected point spread looks like in the
[38:29] Speaker 1: Orange Bowl? Yeah?
[38:31] Speaker 3: Who?
[38:31] Speaker 1: Oregon, Texas Tech? Who should be favored in that game?
[38:34] Speaker 2: Based on Oregon playing this week and Texas Tech with
[38:37] Speaker 2: a longer break. I think I have slightly more confidence
[38:41] Speaker 2: in Oregon if both of these teams are playing somewhere
[38:43] Speaker 2: near their best football. So I'd say between one and
[38:46] Speaker 2: three points, or I guess a toss up.
[38:49] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. The number that I saw at the start
[38:52] Speaker 1: of the week when they started running some projected point
[38:55] Speaker 1: spreads was one and a half. Okay, it looks as
[38:58] Speaker 1: if it has opened at that one and a half number.
[39:01] Speaker 1: That's going to jump around. I think of the point
[39:03] Speaker 1: spreads that we've been kicking around here, that's probably the
[39:05] Speaker 1: one I'm most interested in following over the course of
[39:08] Speaker 1: the next you know, seven to ten days, whatever it is,
[39:11] Speaker 1: till they play this one again. It's on New Year's Day.
[39:14] Speaker 1: It's the first game on New Year's Day. It's going
[39:16] Speaker 1: to be a nooner down there at the Orange Bowl
[39:18] Speaker 1: between Oregon and Texas Tech. These teams have played three
[39:22] Speaker 1: times in their history, twice in the nineties, once two
[39:25] Speaker 1: years ago in a really fun game that featured Bo
[39:28] Speaker 1: Nicks against Tyler Schuck.
[39:30] Speaker 2: FYI that's right, did a little That was a last
[39:33] Speaker 2: second win for Oregon.
[39:34] Speaker 1: Thirty eight to thirty. I believe it was a final.
[39:37] Speaker 1: It was a pick six. I put that put the
[39:40] Speaker 1: icing on the cake there. Oregon moving on again. They
[39:44] Speaker 1: were a healthy favorite. They definitely lived up to that.
[39:48] Speaker 1: They did not cover the point spread. I don't I
[39:50] Speaker 1: think there's much. I think they're up thirty five in
[39:52] Speaker 1: the third quarter. Yes, it was like forty eight to thirteen. Yeah.
[39:56] Speaker 1: On the other and final front in the first round
[40:01] Speaker 1: of college football playoff, ole Miss won by thirty one
[40:04] Speaker 1: over two Lane. Forty one to ten was your final.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Ole Miss needed just three plays and fifty nine seconds
[40:12] Speaker 1: to score their first touchdown of the game. Then Jake
[40:17] Speaker 1: Retzov Tulane got the ball back. They went on a
[40:19] Speaker 1: really nice drive, long drive, drain, like five minutes off
[40:22] Speaker 1: the clock. I'm thinking, all right, hey, here we go. Yeah,
[40:25] Speaker 1: a little game, oh little bit of a game. Interception.
[40:30] Speaker 1: I set it out loud, Dan, it's over. Ye. Ole
[40:34] Speaker 1: Miss gets the ball back. They score on four plays.
[40:37] Speaker 1: Ole Miss needed seven plays to go up fourteen to zip.
[40:41] Speaker 1: All in all, they had twelve drives. They scored on
[40:44] Speaker 1: seven of them. You can actually say they scored on
[40:47] Speaker 1: eight of eleven because they took a knee on that
[40:49] Speaker 1: last drive, or could have scored an eighth time if
[40:52] Speaker 1: they didn't take a knee on that last drive. So
[40:55] Speaker 1: there wasn't a whole lot of resistance on the two
[40:58] Speaker 1: lane front. This was a runaway train. Ole Miss was
[41:02] Speaker 1: a big play machine. They had eleven passes of fifteen
[41:06] Speaker 1: or more yards. They had four runs of fifteen or
[41:09] Speaker 1: more yards. They got good push up front. Trinidad Chambliss
[41:12] Speaker 1: had all day Defensively, they got pressure without blitzing, all
[41:15] Speaker 1: the stuff. Everything that you might have expected about a
[41:18] Speaker 1: matchup like this, we saw all of it. The other
[41:22] Speaker 1: thing that you might have expected or at least watched for,
[41:25] Speaker 1: was is this gonna look like a different Old Miss
[41:28] Speaker 1: team because Lane Kiffin isn't there. We didn't see that
[41:30] Speaker 1: at all. It looked like the same Old Miss team
[41:32] Speaker 1: we've been watching all season one.
[41:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, and Charlie Weis Junior had been calling the offense. Obviously,
[41:36] Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin making those big decisions and game planning throughout
[41:40] Speaker 2: the week and having a role in what that offense
[41:42] Speaker 2: looked like. But it looked like it didn't really miss
[41:44] Speaker 2: a beat. Not an overwhelming performance from Keiwan Lacy, who
[41:47] Speaker 2: I want to say was a little bit beat up Trinidad.
[41:49] Speaker 2: Chambliss left for a minute in this one that obviously
[41:53] Speaker 2: seemed to be a little bit scary, but he came
[41:54] Speaker 2: back and didn't seem to miss a beat, spread the
[41:56] Speaker 2: ball around really nicely. And the big thing to me
[41:59] Speaker 2: was the old Miss defense, which at times this year
[42:02] Speaker 2: has been a little leaky, and they have they take
[42:04] Speaker 2: on who Georgia again right in their next round, YEP,
[42:08] Speaker 2: and so we'll see if this type of defensive performance
[42:11] Speaker 2: goes on Tulane. The numbers are sort of not indicative
[42:15] Speaker 2: at all. Tulane couldn't really do anything in this one.
[42:17] Speaker 2: I think they put up something like one hundred and
[42:19] Speaker 2: twenty some odd yards after they were down by thirty eight,
[42:23] Speaker 2: and so it made sort of their their totals look
[42:25] Speaker 2: better than they actually were. But Tulane could not figure
[42:28] Speaker 2: this out. They could not stay on the field and
[42:31] Speaker 2: there was just a ton of grass in vod Hemingway
[42:34] Speaker 2: for this Ole Miss offense. So a thorough beat down
[42:38] Speaker 2: and good for all Miss in this position without their
[42:41] Speaker 2: head coach for the majority of the season, and so
[42:45] Speaker 2: you could see the sort of relief and excitement in
[42:48] Speaker 2: Pete Golding's face in this one. As the game wore on,
[42:52] Speaker 2: and look, they look like Ole Miss, and they looked
[42:55] Speaker 2: like we weren't sure would or to what extent they
[42:58] Speaker 2: look like Ole Miss.
[43:00] Speaker 1: They looked like all Miss. And you know, on the
[43:02] Speaker 1: Tulane front, at times they were able to get a
[43:05] Speaker 1: little bit going on the ground, so that was a
[43:07] Speaker 1: bright spot. Jake Reetzloff I thought, for the most part,
[43:10] Speaker 1: looked okay. He didn't have a whole lot of help.
[43:13] Speaker 1: He was under assault the entire game, and you know,
[43:17] Speaker 1: it had some nice moments in this one, but it
[43:20] Speaker 1: just wasn't enough. And as was very much the case
[43:23] Speaker 1: on the Oregon JMU side, we saw that with Oregon
[43:26] Speaker 1: or Old Miss Tulane as well. There's just such a
[43:30] Speaker 1: huge talent disparity. There's a huge talent disparity, and try
[43:34] Speaker 1: as they might, Tulane just did not have what it
[43:36] Speaker 1: took to run with Old Miss. Even though they had
[43:39] Speaker 1: a few drives where it seems like maybe they were
[43:41] Speaker 1: getting something together, they they did not have enough playmakers
[43:45] Speaker 1: to realistically match up with this Ole Miss squad.
[43:48] Speaker 2: So which is why we use the term Winter Wonders,
[43:52] Speaker 2: which is why we use the term that like you
[43:54] Speaker 2: are needing to count on specific playmakers if it's a
[43:58] Speaker 2: tight game, if it's a game where where you just
[44:00] Speaker 2: need to take it seriously enough, and you have players
[44:03] Speaker 2: on your roster, whether it's you know, Oregon, Ole Miss,
[44:06] Speaker 2: or any of these teams that you get to see
[44:08] Speaker 2: them against overmatch teams, you're like, it's just a speed thing.
[44:12] Speaker 2: It's just a it's not a desire thing, it's not
[44:15] Speaker 2: a fundamentals thing. It is just this is a much
[44:18] Speaker 2: better football player thing that Ole Miss had that Tulane didn't.
[44:22] Speaker 2: And sometimes these schools have those dudes, and it just
[44:26] Speaker 2: didn't happen uh to occur this afternoon tonight in these games.
[44:30] Speaker 1: You mentioned this, But h Ole Miss is going to
[44:33] Speaker 1: scare off now against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. This
[44:36] Speaker 1: is the game on New Year's Day, eight pm start time,
[44:39] Speaker 1: as you used to with the Sugar Bowl. It is
[44:41] Speaker 1: a rematch of a game that we saw in Athens, Georgia,
[44:46] Speaker 1: one that won forty three to thirty five back on
[44:49] Speaker 1: October the eighteenth. I suffice to say, probably a bit
[44:53] Speaker 1: of a coaching advantage in the favor of Kirby spart
[44:57] Speaker 1: and the George Bulldogs. But Ole missus dangerous team. If
[45:00] Speaker 1: they play like this, for whatever you make of this game,
[45:04] Speaker 1: if they play like this, they're dangerous. And we saw
[45:07] Speaker 1: that the first time around. It was a very tight affair.
[45:09] Speaker 1: Curious to see what it looks like now again, All
[45:13] Speaker 1: stage Sugar Bowl, your traditional start time at eight PM game.
[45:18] Speaker 2: That game, by the way, was an overwhelming Gunner Stockton performance,
[45:22] Speaker 2: who was like shaky a little bit at times to
[45:25] Speaker 2: start the season, and what he was able to do
[45:28] Speaker 2: against ole Miss in that one obviously sort of foreshadowed
[45:31] Speaker 2: what the back half of his season look like. I
[45:33] Speaker 2: guess the only thing ole Miss may have going for it.
[45:36] Speaker 2: I mean, look, it has a lot going for it.
[45:38] Speaker 2: Ole Miss has a what we nobody knew would be
[45:41] Speaker 2: an excellent quarterback coming in in relief of Austin Simmons,
[45:44] Speaker 2: and Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy stepped up all season long,
[45:47] Speaker 2: the defense seemed to improve. There's a lot going for
[45:49] Speaker 2: ole Miss more broadly speaking, but because you mentioned the
[45:52] Speaker 2: coaching advantage, there is a mysterious quality right that ole
[45:57] Speaker 2: Miss has in peak holding. Kirby Smart doesn't have experience
[46:01] Speaker 2: coaching against Pete Golding completely an experienced coach. Right, So
[46:05] Speaker 2: in terms of tendency, in terms of game planning, obviously
[46:08] Speaker 2: the coordinators are the same, but what the rhythm is like,
[46:12] Speaker 2: what might be different in a huge game like an
[46:15] Speaker 2: old Miss Georgia rematch. There might be some mystery that's
[46:19] Speaker 2: me reaching to be clear, but that is it is
[46:23] Speaker 2: a different experience for Kirby Smart that he might not
[46:26] Speaker 2: be able to lean on, Like this is what Lane
[46:28] Speaker 2: Kiffin is going to lean on.
[46:29] Speaker 1: We are content creators and sometimes we need to create
[46:32] Speaker 1: the content. So we'll see, we'll see, we will get
[46:34] Speaker 1: to that again. We're going to do our quarterfinal preview.
[46:38] Speaker 2: Did you see lang Kin and tweeting zeeding on ex
[46:41] Speaker 2: cole in the Everything app during the game, He basically
[46:44] Speaker 2: said he was He was tweeting like, hey man, why
[46:46] Speaker 2: can't we just root for both of these teams? Just
[46:49] Speaker 2: not the week that they play each other, Like let's
[46:51] Speaker 2: all be friends. Okay, man, you chose to leave, all right,
[46:58] Speaker 2: that's all.
[47:00] Speaker 1: Can I ask a favor of you? You can. I
[47:02] Speaker 1: don't know if I'm gonna fulfill it, but all you
[47:03] Speaker 1: can ask. I desperately want a dramatic drive reading oh
[47:08] Speaker 1: Man for the Miami Texas A and m game. Oh,
[47:12] Speaker 1: you want it after the fact. I want it after
[47:14] Speaker 1: the fact. I feel the people demand it. I feel
[47:17] Speaker 1: the people deserve it. This game, I think, above all
[47:21] Speaker 1: the others that we saw on this weekend and especially
[47:26] Speaker 1: the last couple weekends of the season, is a game
[47:29] Speaker 1: that warrants that type of treatment.
[47:33] Speaker 2: So Miami had the potentially worst first half of offense
[47:38] Speaker 2: in collegeot ball playoff history. I saw that somewhere. Yeah,
[47:42] Speaker 2: sixty some odd yards. Okay, So the drive chart for Miami,
[47:45] Speaker 2: Texas A and m ten three final.
[47:48] Speaker 3: Punts, punt, fumble, punt, punt, punt, kickoff, punt punt, missfield
[47:54] Speaker 3: goal downs, miss field goal, field goal interception, miss field
[47:57] Speaker 3: goal punt, punt, field goal, fumble, punt, touchdown interception.
[48:03] Speaker 1: And you timed it perfectly. You got right to like
[48:10] Speaker 1: the crescendo, and you say end of game.
[48:12] Speaker 2: It says kickoff on this drive chart, and that doesn't
[48:15] Speaker 2: make any sense. So I'm not sure what was going
[48:19] Speaker 2: on there. But okay, my final thought here.
[48:25] Speaker 1: Relates to a debate that I believe is going to rage, long, deep,
[48:30] Speaker 1: painfully into the offseason, and that is about G five
[48:35] Speaker 1: teams in the playoff. Okay, So look, you know where
[48:40] Speaker 1: I stand on this. I've been pretty vocal about it.
[48:44] Speaker 1: I think it's a matter of principle. If you are
[48:48] Speaker 1: going to say that all of these teams are in
[48:50] Speaker 1: the same subdivision, everyone should have a pathway to get
[48:54] Speaker 1: into the playoff. I think that's a matter of principle.
[48:58] Speaker 1: I think that's very straightforward. Not saying autobids, I'm just
[49:02] Speaker 1: saying a pathway in. Okay. I may have changed my
[49:06] Speaker 1: tune a little bit, but I believe that there needs
[49:09] Speaker 1: to be a realistic pathway so that everybody can be represented.
[49:12] Speaker 1: Otherwise you need to split them off, come up with
[49:15] Speaker 1: some other situation.
[49:17] Speaker 2: Sure, you can't call them FBS, right, you can't call
[49:19] Speaker 2: an FBS playoff.
[49:20] Speaker 1: Right, come up with something between FBS and FCS. And
[49:24] Speaker 1: that's where G five lives. Okay. You got to get
[49:27] Speaker 1: them to agree to it. You got to make sure
[49:28] Speaker 1: that the money is right, but that that would be
[49:30] Speaker 1: sort of the off ramp here. And I know people
[49:33] Speaker 1: have been screaming at us for the last week. Like,
[49:35] Speaker 1: I sent you a plan, here's my plan. I will
[49:38] Speaker 1: read through all your plans. Okay, I appreciate it. I
[49:40] Speaker 1: appreciate that there is different opinions on this matter. People
[49:45] Speaker 1: feel passionately. I appreciate that, So thank you for emailing
[49:48] Speaker 1: in Soliverble at gmail dot com. If you have a
[49:50] Speaker 1: plan that you'd like to send in Soliverble at gmail
[49:52] Speaker 1: dot com.
[49:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, if you want to text Tie directly six to one, Oh,
[49:56] Speaker 2: continue Tie.
[49:58] Speaker 1: I believe out of Prince there should be a pathway in. Okay,
[50:02] Speaker 1: I don't care if it makes for lousy television. I
[50:06] Speaker 1: don't care if it makes for lopsided point spreads. I
[50:11] Speaker 1: don't even care if it's at the expense of the
[50:13] Speaker 1: team that I root for. If you're going to say
[50:16] Speaker 1: that everybody belongs in this subdivision, then everybody in the
[50:20] Speaker 1: subdivision should have a chance to play in the playoff
[50:22] Speaker 1: for the big trophy. That seems logical to me. That said,
[50:28] Speaker 1: what happened this weekend was a very very bad turn
[50:33] Speaker 1: of events for that perspective.
[50:35] Speaker 2: Okay, well, I mean, Jamie, you lost by seventeen. It
[50:37] Speaker 2: lost by seventeen.
[50:38] Speaker 1: They put up thirty four an organ The game was
[50:41] Speaker 1: kind of over before it got started. But okay, yeah,
[50:45] Speaker 1: it was just a very bad day for that point
[50:48] Speaker 1: of view. So I don't know where the conversation goes next.
[50:55] Speaker 1: My hunch is that it's never going to end this offseason.
[50:58] Speaker 1: We're going to hear a lot about this. Whatever they
[51:01] Speaker 1: decide to do with the new playoff system, whether it's
[51:06] Speaker 1: go to sixteen or fourteen or God help us twenty four,
[51:10] Speaker 1: whatever it ends up being. All I'm asking for is
[51:14] Speaker 1: a realistic path for teams like Tulane and like James
[51:19] Speaker 1: Madison to still find their way in. I don't want
[51:22] Speaker 1: to throw the baby out with the bathwater. These were
[51:24] Speaker 1: two terrible results if you watch the game. I mean,
[51:26] Speaker 1: I don't care what the final score is with the
[51:28] Speaker 1: Oregon JMU game. That game was over. The game was
[51:31] Speaker 1: over in the first half. Yeah, I don't think we
[51:34] Speaker 1: should look at these results and base all of our
[51:38] Speaker 1: future movement based solely on what happened today. I don't
[51:42] Speaker 1: think that's fair. But I will acknowledge this is not
[51:46] Speaker 1: a good look, and it very much was a situation
[51:51] Speaker 1: where he had two games that were just uncompetitive. They
[51:53] Speaker 1: just weren't. They weren't competitive. And yeah, I don't know
[51:59] Speaker 1: if it means ban of sixteen, and then whichever G
[52:02] Speaker 1: five teams get in, they play the top seeds in
[52:05] Speaker 1: the tournament that type of deal. I don't know. I
[52:08] Speaker 1: don't know what the plan is, but I am not
[52:13] Speaker 1: all that excited to hear where the discourse goes next,
[52:15] Speaker 1: because I think it's just going to be very loud.
[52:18] Speaker 1: There's gonna be a lot of proud Power Conference fans
[52:21] Speaker 1: out there who are saying that these teams don't belong
[52:24] Speaker 1: and shouldn't play They're playing a different sport. I've heard
[52:26] Speaker 1: that about a thousand different people, and even though it
[52:30] Speaker 1: wasn't competitive, I don't fully agree with that. I just
[52:32] Speaker 1: I hope whatever they do next, they're not going to
[52:34] Speaker 1: cut them out entirely, because I think that would be
[52:36] Speaker 1: that'd be lousy.
[52:38] Speaker 2: Including Joe Tessitur Sean McDonough. Yeah, it was like, okay, guys,
[52:43] Speaker 2: we should talk about this. Let's be real, Like why
[52:45] Speaker 2: are you talking about this?
[52:50] Speaker 1: I hear you.
[52:51] Speaker 2: I'm with you. You know how I feel about this.
[52:54] Speaker 2: I just think this is a uniquely college football problem
[52:59] Speaker 2: that the way it's laid out or not laid out,
[53:02] Speaker 2: or governed or not governed, just creates this oxygen for
[53:09] Speaker 2: like bile to get through in the discussion of all
[53:12] Speaker 2: of this that I think people feel. And it's not
[53:17] Speaker 2: just SEC people, it's not just big ten people, it's
[53:19] Speaker 2: not just power conference people. But people feel this need
[53:23] Speaker 2: to puff out their chest and like put down like
[53:27] Speaker 2: the smaller guy, because they're like, you don't. We are different.
[53:31] Speaker 2: We are in rare air, and it's embarrassing for us
[53:34] Speaker 2: to play against and be associated with you. It doesn't
[53:38] Speaker 2: happen in the NFL when like the New York Giants
[53:41] Speaker 2: lose by forty five in a playoff, how.
[53:44] Speaker 1: Dare you talk about my giants?
[53:45] Speaker 2: Like the only reason I say that is because I
[53:47] Speaker 2: looked up the biggest NFL playoff blowouts of all time.
[53:50] Speaker 2: Like there's a lot of giants in here.
[53:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, there there really is.
[53:53] Speaker 2: Jeff Hosteler really Struggleiz.
[53:55] Speaker 1: You should watch them all year like I did. Been
[53:57] Speaker 1: a great year anyway.
[53:59] Speaker 2: But what I'm saying is like we didn't have that
[54:03] Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety three about like the NFC East is
[54:06] Speaker 2: an embarrassment, right because they're all under the umbrella of FBS,
[54:10] Speaker 2: They're all under the umbrella of the NFL. Right, we
[54:12] Speaker 2: have blowouts in sports. I want to say that there
[54:15] Speaker 2: was probably a year where I think the Utah Jazz
[54:17] Speaker 2: beat the Bulls by like fifty eight points in an
[54:19] Speaker 2: NBA Finals game. Nobody freaked out. People understand blowouts happen,
[54:24] Speaker 2: and so I just I feel as if there's so
[54:28] Speaker 2: much pride about conference and affiliation because we have been
[54:34] Speaker 2: made to feel like the Big Ten is so crazy
[54:38] Speaker 2: impressive now that it's added, you know, the West Coast
[54:41] Speaker 2: schools and it's this huge thing, and the SEC is
[54:44] Speaker 2: so impressive, and literally commercials say.
[54:46] Speaker 3: It means more.
[54:47] Speaker 1: It means so much more.
[54:50] Speaker 2: When you add Texas and Oklahoma. You have these mega
[54:52] Speaker 2: conferences with these huge schools who've done so many impressive,
[54:55] Speaker 2: legitimately crazy impressive things that you do start getting that
[55:01] Speaker 2: what we talked about, like the country club experience.
[55:04] Speaker 1: We are like, you don't belong with us, You're not.
[55:07] Speaker 2: It's just you're you should have You should start.
[55:09] Speaker 1: Your own club.
[55:10] Speaker 2: That would be a really good move for you, guys.
[55:12] Speaker 2: I love to start your own tournament. You could put
[55:15] Speaker 2: it on True TV, you could sell it to to B. Right,
[55:22] Speaker 2: is that a thing? I think twov is a thing?
[55:24] Speaker 2: T ub Y is it a thing? T U b
[55:27] Speaker 2: I is it TBI?
[55:28] Speaker 1: Excuse me? Yeah?
[55:29] Speaker 2: Right, there's this like dismissive nature, like why don't you guys,
[55:32] Speaker 2: like there's a public park that will host you in
[55:35] Speaker 2: your tournament of small teams, And I just I don't know.
[55:40] Speaker 2: I find the whole thing to be so disingenuous dumb, like,
[55:43] Speaker 2: yes there are blowouts, Yes there are better teams and
[55:45] Speaker 2: worse teams, and we can all make peace with the
[55:48] Speaker 2: fact that, like a Wimbledon final might be six oh
[55:51] Speaker 2: six to one, and that's okay. The person who loses
[55:54] Speaker 2: that that tournament should be allowed to play in the
[55:57] Speaker 2: US Open. And it's just I don't know, it's this
[55:59] Speaker 2: weird thing, like you can look like, should Minnesota be
[56:02] Speaker 2: able to stay in the Big ten? You want to
[56:03] Speaker 2: look at some of their scores from this year, but
[56:06] Speaker 2: there's like this automatic reflex to be like, you are
[56:08] Speaker 2: not of our kind, and I don't know. It's it's
[56:12] Speaker 2: very strange. And this year had two smaller conference teams
[56:16] Speaker 2: in it because Miami couldn't beat SMU or Louisville and
[56:21] Speaker 2: get to the ACC championship game and just become an
[56:24] Speaker 2: automatic qualifier for this conference. Because Duke beat Clemson and
[56:28] Speaker 2: scored forty six, beating club, there's all sorts of reasons
[56:31] Speaker 2: Notre Dame's not in this tournament. Like, there's all sorts
[56:33] Speaker 2: of reasons why we had this like very rare situation
[56:37] Speaker 2: in which we have these two teams in and people
[56:40] Speaker 2: can't just say, like, oh, what a weird year. This
[56:43] Speaker 2: likely will never happen again. They have their digital pitchforks
[56:47] Speaker 2: out like this is embarrassing for this.
[56:49] Speaker 1: Well, and the truth is it won't happen again. They
[56:51] Speaker 1: won't let it.
[56:52] Speaker 2: Of course. They won't want to do is change it
[56:55] Speaker 2: to advantage the already most advantaged, and they'll do it again.
[56:58] Speaker 2: It won't happen again.
[57:00] Speaker 1: I mean. The pressure point that I think we will
[57:04] Speaker 1: hear the most about soonest is the a SEC tiebreaker.
[57:09] Speaker 1: The a SEC tiebreaker, which this year it's probably already changed,
[57:13] Speaker 1: used conference opponent winning percentage instead of CFP rankings to
[57:17] Speaker 1: put a team like Duke ahead of Miami. They will
[57:21] Speaker 1: change that so that moving forward to school like Miami
[57:25] Speaker 1: or whoever in Florida State, maybe Virginia Tech, somebody gets
[57:28] Speaker 1: in via that tiebreaker as opposed to what they had
[57:32] Speaker 1: this year. Doing so would have had Miami, Notre Dame
[57:36] Speaker 1: and Alabama in all likelihood in the college football playoff.
[57:39] Speaker 1: I think that's the first thing you see. But looming
[57:42] Speaker 1: large now, kind of in the backdrop, is this push
[57:45] Speaker 1: to amend the model, come up with a different way.
[57:50] Speaker 1: We've heard talks about this now for the last year
[57:52] Speaker 1: or so, and I look, we've heard Pete Bavaqua. Whatever
[57:57] Speaker 1: you think of Pete Bavaqua's comments on the Notre Dame front,
[58:00] Speaker 1: we've heard him are a great guy, We've heard We've
[58:03] Speaker 1: heard him talk about going up to sixteen. We've heard
[58:06] Speaker 1: others talk about going up to six. Tony Petiti wants
[58:08] Speaker 1: to go up to like forty eight. I don't know, buddy.
[58:10] Speaker 2: We've already changed the framework of this to get Notre
[58:14] Speaker 2: Dame automatic, I know, which.
[58:16] Speaker 1: I also hate. I also hate that. I don't like
[58:19] Speaker 1: that at all. Right, But my only point with all
[58:22] Speaker 1: this is I understand that this is a very bad
[58:25] Speaker 1: look for the G five. Understand it. It's not all
[58:28] Speaker 1: that unexpected. I get where people are coming from. I
[58:31] Speaker 1: understand the argument. I just don't agree with it. And
[58:33] Speaker 1: I hope that whichever direction this goes next, they do
[58:37] Speaker 1: not cut the G five out entirely. If you want
[58:40] Speaker 1: to modify the pathway, so be it just make sure
[58:44] Speaker 1: there is a realistic pathway and not just a dog
[58:47] Speaker 1: and pony show.
[58:49] Speaker 2: I you know, I agree, Ty, you know I agree.
[58:52] Speaker 2: Why don't you have a little tournament on dailymotion dot com?
[58:56] Speaker 2: Why don't you take your little Mountain West Sunbelt altercation
[59:02] Speaker 2: to daily Motion? Does that still exist? I?
[59:06] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[59:07] Speaker 2: I don't think daily Motion is killable. I think it's
[59:10] Speaker 2: gonna be here, it's gonna outlive off us all. Come on, Ty, yeah,
[59:14] Speaker 2: it's it's very strange, but it's not unexpected.
[59:18] Speaker 1: Why don't we leave it there? Don't forget if you

[59:47] Speaker 1: emails on ft AH. That'll be Tuesday, and then we're
