[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the Solid Verbal.
[0:04] Speaker 2: Hell for me, I'm a man, I'm forty.
[0:08] Speaker 3: I've heard so many players say, well I want to
[0:10] Speaker 3: be happy.
[0:10] Speaker 2: You want to be happy for day Edith State?
[0:13] Speaker 1: Is that? Whoo whoo? And no, Dan and ty Dan Rubinstein,
[0:20] Speaker 1: welcome back to the show, my good friend. It occurred
[0:22] Speaker 1: to me just as I hit the record button that
[0:26] Speaker 1: you and I never officially agreed to what we were
[0:29] Speaker 1: gonna do this episode.
[0:31] Speaker 3: I said, TCU season debrief and you were like, what
[0:33] Speaker 3: are you even talking about? And I was like, well
[0:36] Speaker 3: think about it, and you said no, no, absolutely not.
[0:39] Speaker 2: So where did we land?
[0:40] Speaker 1: I hope you came prepared to talk about the CFP
[0:44] Speaker 1: National Championship Game between Miami and Indiana, because that's what
[0:47] Speaker 1: I did.
[0:47] Speaker 2: It is it is, it is.
[0:48] Speaker 3: We've we've previewed National Championship games each year we've done
[0:51] Speaker 3: this show. We've done it in different ways. I think
[0:53] Speaker 3: we're going to be more direct and hopefully as thorough
[0:56] Speaker 3: as our most thorough shows that we've done in previewing
[0:59] Speaker 3: these monumental games. This is the first time, I believe,
[1:04] Speaker 3: in the history of the Solid Verbal, that we're previewing
[1:07] Speaker 3: either one of these teams in this situation. Yes, we
[1:12] Speaker 3: have not previewed Miami in a national championship game with
[1:14] Speaker 3: not previe in Indiana in a national championship game situation.
[1:17] Speaker 3: We have not even not previewed either of these head
[1:20] Speaker 3: coaches in a national championship situation as head coaches. And
[1:25] Speaker 3: so this feels very new and novel and fresh and clean.
[1:29] Speaker 2: It's great.
[1:31] Speaker 1: Please hit follow or subscribe if you have yet to
[1:33] Speaker 1: do so. This is not the end for us. We
[1:38] Speaker 1: of course have the recap show that we're going to
[1:40] Speaker 1: do immediately in the shadow of the National Championship game
[1:44] Speaker 1: after it goes down on Monday evening. We will of
[1:48] Speaker 1: course continue all throughout the offseason, two episodes per week.
[1:51] Speaker 1: That has been our plan of attack since God knows when,
[1:55] Speaker 1: so keep it right here. We will do our part
[1:58] Speaker 1: after the season to keep you up to speed on
[2:00] Speaker 1: everything going on in and around the world of college football.
[2:03] Speaker 1: But for the time being, yes, we have a very
[2:06] Speaker 1: big game to discuss. The other point that I would
[2:09] Speaker 1: like to make here before we dive in, we do
[2:12] Speaker 1: have Bowl Bingo going on. We've had three weeks of
[2:14] Speaker 1: Bowl bingo. It is free for everybody to play. All
[2:18] Speaker 1: you need to do is go on out to play
[2:21] Speaker 1: bowlbingo dot com. If you sign up as a free
[2:25] Speaker 1: member of our patreon, you don't got to pay. You
[2:27] Speaker 1: can if you want, but you don't have to. If
[2:29] Speaker 1: you want to play the game, all you gotta do
[2:32] Speaker 1: is pick six items from a big old list of
[2:35] Speaker 1: thirty six props that you think may go down in
[2:39] Speaker 1: this national championship game with a tiebreaker, and then close
[2:44] Speaker 1: things out give a prize to the winner. Okay, very simple,
[2:47] Speaker 1: pick six things, very straightforward. Couldn't ask for anything more simple.
[2:52] Speaker 1: People have been having a lot of fun with it
[2:54] Speaker 1: so far this season, as they did last. So Playbolebingo
[2:56] Speaker 1: dot com is where you can go if you want
[2:58] Speaker 1: to get in on the action and have a little
[3:00] Speaker 1: bit more root for on Monday night?
[3:04] Speaker 2: Agree?
[3:06] Speaker 1: Shall we dive in? Dan? I think? So let's do
[3:09] Speaker 1: it one more time this season, my good friend Dan.
[3:13] Speaker 1: Time to count any pick of the week. It is
[3:17] Speaker 1: the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. They are playing
[3:22] Speaker 1: it in Miami at hard Rocks Stadium. More to come
[3:26] Speaker 1: on that in just a moment. It is your number
[3:30] Speaker 1: one seed, Indiana Hoosiers at fifteen to oh An eight
[3:35] Speaker 1: and a half point favorite at time of recording, squaring
[3:38] Speaker 1: off against the tenth seeded Miami Hurricanes, who come into
[3:42] Speaker 1: this one with a mark of thirteen and two. You're
[3:46] Speaker 1: over under again at time of recording forty seven and
[3:51] Speaker 1: one half points. Yes, I have some fun facts for you,
[3:55] Speaker 1: Dan Oh.
[3:56] Speaker 2: So, in thatsence you're saying I.
[3:58] Speaker 1: Got something to say, I do. Actually, I have a
[4:01] Speaker 1: couple interesting nuggets that I think you might appreciate. Okay,
[4:06] Speaker 1: some maybe that you knew, Others maybe that you didn't.
[4:09] Speaker 2: I'm ready.
[4:09] Speaker 1: First and foremost, Indiana has never won a national championship,
[4:13] Speaker 1: never won a national championship. They have been playing football
[4:16] Speaker 1: for over one hundred and twenty five years. They only
[4:18] Speaker 1: have three conference championships to their name in football, including
[4:22] Speaker 1: the one that they won this season. They are also
[4:25] Speaker 1: vying to become the first team ever to finish sixteen
[4:29] Speaker 1: to zero in a single season at the FBS level,
[4:33] Speaker 1: and that, of course is because they've expanded the playoff
[4:35] Speaker 1: field and there are more games now and I think
[4:38] Speaker 1: everybody out there can put two and two together. But
[4:40] Speaker 1: just as a point of historical context, interesting thing to
[4:43] Speaker 1: note on the Miami side, their last title was two
[4:47] Speaker 1: thousand and one. The last time they played for a
[4:50] Speaker 1: national championship was actually in the Year of Our Lord
[4:53] Speaker 1: two thousand and three. For the two thousand and two season.
[4:57] Speaker 1: They lost that game in the Fiesta Bowl, then played
[5:00] Speaker 1: in Sun Devil Stadium in double overtime to Ohio State.
[5:04] Speaker 1: The final score of that one was thirty one to
[5:05] Speaker 1: twenty four. And you know, we have talked about that
[5:08] Speaker 1: game a whole multitude of times now over the course
[5:11] Speaker 1: of this show, right this episode, this show, I'm sure
[5:14] Speaker 1: we'll bring it up a thousand more times. But that
[5:16] Speaker 1: was a pivotal game, a watershed game in our history
[5:20] Speaker 1: as college football fans. It meant a lot to us.
[5:22] Speaker 1: Both agree. Also, here's one for you. Miami is playing
[5:27] Speaker 1: this game in their home stadium, but technically on paper,
[5:31] Speaker 1: they are designated as the road team, so I believe
[5:35] Speaker 1: they will be wearing their road uniforms in this game.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Okay, that's cool. Interesting different.
[5:41] Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza attended the same high school, Christopher Columbus High
[5:45] Speaker 1: School as Maria Cristopaul and merrickris Ball's classmate and teammate
[5:52] Speaker 1: was Fernando Mendoza's father, so there's been a connective tissue
[5:56] Speaker 1: there and last, but certainly not least Right now, this
[6:00] Speaker 1: figures to be the most expensive National Championship game ticket ever.
[6:05] Speaker 1: So for context, last year between Ohio State and Notre Dame,
[6:09] Speaker 1: the get in price was a little over eighteen hundred
[6:12] Speaker 1: dollars for the cheapest ticket, which where's my sound? That's
[6:15] Speaker 1: a lot of potatoes. That is a lot of potatoes. Yeah,
[6:19] Speaker 1: thus far. I checked stub hub late last night. The
[6:22] Speaker 1: cheapest ticket that I could find is around thirty two hundred. Jeez,
[6:27] Speaker 1: I don't know if that's going to go down my hunches.
[6:29] Speaker 1: Even if it does, it won't dip below eighteen hundred dogs.
[6:32] Speaker 1: So if you're looking to get in again, that's a
[6:36] Speaker 1: lot of potatoes.
[6:37] Speaker 3: Did you see, by the way, did you see Connor
[6:39] Speaker 3: Stallions weighing in with Mark Cuban about that?
[6:41] Speaker 1: I did, and I didn't really understand what the subtext was.
[6:44] Speaker 1: I didn't understand why people were making a big deal
[6:46] Speaker 1: of that.
[6:47] Speaker 3: Oh, it was just funny that, you know, Connor Stallions
[6:49] Speaker 3: is around and weighing in and has takes. He was
[6:52] Speaker 3: just talking about how there's sort of finite demand usually
[6:55] Speaker 3: because there are two fan bases who don't live in
[6:58] Speaker 3: the city that's hosting the National Champampionship. But now there
[7:01] Speaker 3: is much more interest locally because of a home team
[7:06] Speaker 3: playing in the National Championship game, So tickets likely won't
[7:09] Speaker 3: drop as dramatically as kickoff near's day of and so
[7:13] Speaker 3: you won't see you know, thirty two hundred now, but
[7:16] Speaker 3: suddenly people are getting in for seven to fifty you know,
[7:19] Speaker 3: five ten minutes before kickoff. So it does to your
[7:22] Speaker 3: point ring true that it's going to be a per ricy,
[7:26] Speaker 3: pricey ticket.
[7:27] Speaker 1: If you were a fan of one of these teams,
[7:30] Speaker 1: and you know that the two of us have confronted
[7:32] Speaker 1: this very issue before in the past, what would be
[7:36] Speaker 1: the maximum amount of US dollars that you would pay
[7:39] Speaker 1: to get in?
[7:40] Speaker 2: I wouldn't pay four figures to go to a sporting event.
[7:44] Speaker 2: I just wouldn't.
[7:45] Speaker 3: Well, I know that I figured as much, but how
[7:47] Speaker 3: much n ninety nine know, you know, how much would
[7:50] Speaker 3: you want to spend? It also would depend on opponent.
[7:54] Speaker 3: It would also depend on place. Do I want to
[7:56] Speaker 3: go to this place? The whole shebang? I think I
[8:00] Speaker 3: think I would I don't know, eight nine hundred bucks
[8:03] Speaker 3: to go to a huge Oregon National Championship especially because
[8:05] Speaker 3: Oregon hasn't won ever, which nobody ever reminds Oregon fans of.
[8:10] Speaker 3: I don't know if you're familiar with that. Nobody's ever
[8:14] Speaker 3: made the joke.
[8:14] Speaker 1: That like one hundred and fifty unifour will amination with
[8:17] Speaker 1: zero title. Nailed it again, Chad.
[8:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, if your team has never won a national
[8:22] Speaker 3: championship like Indiana and it is a destination place as
[8:26] Speaker 3: Miami is, especially in winter time, if you're coming from
[8:29] Speaker 3: the Midwest and they're playing against a team that, as
[8:32] Speaker 3: an Indiana fan, you'd love to see them play against
[8:35] Speaker 3: and beat, which I'm sure you know Miami as being
[8:37] Speaker 3: like you know, I guess twenty first century Power is
[8:40] Speaker 3: not a lie. It's just been a minute that this
[8:42] Speaker 3: is an enticing situation. So I understand why people are
[8:47] Speaker 3: going crazy and snapping up tickets because it's just a
[8:50] Speaker 3: situation they've never experienced. But yeah, I'm in that. Yeah,
[8:56] Speaker 3: i'd pay eight nine hundred dollars. But I just I
[8:59] Speaker 3: can't justify that when I don't know, kids need shoes
[9:04] Speaker 3: just like stuff like that. I don't know, kids need groceries.
[9:08] Speaker 1: All right, Well, if you're going to this game, reach out.
[9:10] Speaker 1: Soliverbal at gmail dot com. Let us know what you
[9:13] Speaker 1: pay to get in. No no judgment here. Look if
[9:15] Speaker 1: you have a number, I mean I was close to
[9:18] Speaker 1: paying nine hundred for that right Notre Dame Alademic game,
[9:22] Speaker 1: and it would have been the last row of the stadium.
[9:24] Speaker 1: And I didn't want to do it at the time
[9:26] Speaker 1: because A, I think we both thought they were gonna
[9:28] Speaker 1: get creamed and they did, and then B it was
[9:31] Speaker 1: sort of a bummer going without you, Like I just
[9:33] Speaker 1: I don't know I would have felt of doing that.
[9:36] Speaker 3: So to be clear, I have done that. I know, I.
[9:42] Speaker 1: Know it was I was expecting in that game that
[9:47] Speaker 1: it was going to be something of a shell acking,
[9:50] Speaker 1: and so I at least wanted to have some company
[9:53] Speaker 1: with me if I was going to spend that kind
[9:54] Speaker 1: of cabbage to watch the game. Right, So it wasn't
[9:57] Speaker 1: exactly the same. But uh, if you're going again, no judgment,
[10:01] Speaker 1: So oliverble atgail dot com. We're not going to use
[10:03] Speaker 1: your name or anything, but let us know what you
[10:05] Speaker 1: pay to get in.
[10:06] Speaker 3: I'm just I'm curious that that's sort of central to
[10:08] Speaker 3: one of my like life.
[10:09] Speaker 1: THESS is that a word?
[10:11] Speaker 2: The CS?
[10:12] Speaker 1: It's very close to something else. But go ahead, f CS.
[10:16] Speaker 3: Is that what you're you're allowed to say that your word.
[10:19] Speaker 3: It's not mine, it's not the what, but it's the
[10:21] Speaker 3: with whom? Right that Like, it's great going to a
[10:25] Speaker 3: huge game, but it's even better no matter the outcome,
[10:29] Speaker 3: that you're with somebody you want to be with. And so, uh,
[10:32] Speaker 3: I get it from your perspective, going solo to a
[10:34] Speaker 3: national championship game when your team is playing that sort
[10:37] Speaker 3: of defeats the purpose of the culture of college football
[10:40] Speaker 3: in general.
[10:40] Speaker 2: So yeah, I get it.
[10:41] Speaker 1: I will say that I did put in for World
[10:43] Speaker 1: Cup tickets, and in that case, especially for the US games,
[10:48] Speaker 1: I'm prepared to spend more money on tickets than I
[10:50] Speaker 1: ever have before. Really, yes, I am oh man, But
[10:54] Speaker 1: you'd be going with somebody you like. I'd be going
[10:56] Speaker 1: with friends. And the good news from my pocketbook is
[10:59] Speaker 1: that I'm not going to win because there's like twenty
[11:01] Speaker 1: million applications. But okay, this is a football show, the
[11:04] Speaker 1: other kind of football show, Dan, I have a couple
[11:06] Speaker 1: questions about this game before we dive into our keys
[11:09] Speaker 1: and the case for each team, and so have a
[11:11] Speaker 1: bunch of questions. They want to have them answered immediately.
[11:15] Speaker 1: Question number one, do you think that both teams in
[11:21] Speaker 1: this matchup realistically can win the game? Yes, definitely, I
[11:29] Speaker 1: think I feel the same.
[11:31] Speaker 3: How can you look at these teams and who they've
[11:33] Speaker 3: beaten recently and think otherwise that you think there's no
[11:36] Speaker 3: way Indiana can beat Miami and Miami, or you think
[11:38] Speaker 3: there's no way that Miami can beat Indiana. These are
[11:42] Speaker 3: both excellent teams. This is a national championship game. They're
[11:45] Speaker 3: both prepared, They're both not dealing with distractions, they both
[11:49] Speaker 3: haven't had a catastrophic injury to a quarterback or I mean,
[11:54] Speaker 3: obviously Indiana's lost a big defensive lineman, but you know,
[11:57] Speaker 3: Miami's dealing with, you know, a beat up team, as
[11:59] Speaker 3: everybody is at this point in the season. So yes,
[12:03] Speaker 3: I think that Miami was able to beat Ohio State,
[12:07] Speaker 3: that Indiana was able to beat I guess Ohio State,
[12:10] Speaker 3: Alabama and Oregon and the way that they sort of
[12:14] Speaker 3: went through their schedule. For the most part, the case
[12:17] Speaker 3: for either of these teams is not difficult to make.
[12:20] Speaker 1: It's not difficult. I think it's a little bit of
[12:22] Speaker 1: an arrow or path for Miami, and we can get
[12:24] Speaker 1: into that but I tend to agree to me. Both
[12:26] Speaker 1: teams I think can absolutely win this game. Question number two,
[12:31] Speaker 1: what would be the most shocking outcome for you?
[12:36] Speaker 3: A Miami blowout? Miami winning this game thirty eight thirteen.
[12:41] Speaker 1: I have a Miami blowout as well.
[12:43] Speaker 3: I just look, that's not the way that they've won
[12:46] Speaker 3: a lot of their games. That even when they've gone
[12:48] Speaker 3: up on teams, teams have come back, and even if
[12:51] Speaker 3: those weren't fully competitive four quarter games, Miami distancing themselves
[12:57] Speaker 3: from excellent teams has not necessarily been reality this season.
[13:02] Speaker 3: And look, look, I guess what you think of Pitt
[13:05] Speaker 3: or something like that, but no, Miami in the playoff
[13:08] Speaker 3: has not distanced themselves from teams.
[13:09] Speaker 2: Which is fine, you just want to win.
[13:12] Speaker 3: But that would be the that would essentially, to me,
[13:15] Speaker 3: take an Indiana program and team that has not been
[13:20] Speaker 3: mistake prone, that has been eat off the floor clean,
[13:23] Speaker 3: that has been precise, that has not beaten itself doing
[13:27] Speaker 3: all of the things that they've avoided all season long. Yeah, So,
[13:30] Speaker 3: I mean, it would be so out of character for
[13:33] Speaker 3: Miami to win taking advantage of mistakes and just laying
[13:38] Speaker 3: it on Indiana.
[13:39] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think the only way this goes
[13:41] Speaker 1: down is if it's Alberto Mendoza playing quarterback for Indiana.
[13:45] Speaker 1: If something happens to Fernando, you know, no one's reading
[13:48] Speaker 1: for that. But right I just I can't bend my
[13:51] Speaker 1: mind into the pretzel now needed to get to like
[13:55] Speaker 1: thirty eight to three Miami. So I tend to agree.
[13:58] Speaker 1: Here's question three, though, what will be the funniest outcome?
[14:03] Speaker 2: The funniest outcome.
[14:04] Speaker 1: Funniest outcome not shocking, I mean, maybe shocking because it's funny, but.
[14:09] Speaker 2: Funny outcome.
[14:11] Speaker 3: The darkest possible humor outcome of this game would be
[14:16] Speaker 3: Miami going up comfortably and the whole place going crazy.
[14:22] Speaker 1: I have the same thing written down.
[14:23] Speaker 3: They're up twenty eight to seven deep in the third
[14:26] Speaker 3: quarter something like that. Yeah, and maybe it's a special
[14:29] Speaker 3: teams play, maybe it's a tipped pass pick six. And
[14:33] Speaker 3: like I'm saying this as if like Miami going up
[14:36] Speaker 3: comfortably in this game is like crazy and probable. It's
[14:39] Speaker 3: not crazy improbable, it is this is college football. We
[14:42] Speaker 3: have results, and we have years upon years of sample
[14:45] Speaker 3: size to say that favored teams can be comfortably down,
[14:51] Speaker 3: that they are up twenty eight to seven and Indiana
[14:54] Speaker 3: comes back and wins this late and leaves the stadium
[14:57] Speaker 3: completely shell shocked.
[14:58] Speaker 1: And I would say say, as an addendum, not because
[15:03] Speaker 1: of a big special teams play or because of a
[15:07] Speaker 1: pick six or anything like that. I think the funniest
[15:11] Speaker 1: possible outcome, as you said, Miami going up comfortably but
[15:14] Speaker 1: then blowing a lead because they go into like a
[15:16] Speaker 1: super conservative shell, or they mismanage the clock, or some
[15:19] Speaker 1: of the criticism that rightfully has been thrown at Crystal
[15:23] Speaker 1: Ball over the years, some of that stuff kind of
[15:26] Speaker 1: coming back and costing them the National championship game at home.
[15:30] Speaker 1: Funniest from a content standpoint, obviously not from Miami standpoint,
[15:33] Speaker 1: but I think for those of us who don't necessarily
[15:36] Speaker 1: have a dog in the fight, that would make for
[15:38] Speaker 1: the funniest conversation after.
[15:41] Speaker 3: The Honestly, to my one b in terms of the
[15:45] Speaker 3: funniest possible thing is actually the Miami blowout of Indiana,
[15:49] Speaker 3: because up leading up to this game it's nothing.
[15:52] Speaker 1: But where did Kurt Signetti come from?
[15:55] Speaker 3: How does he do it? How does he know who
[15:57] Speaker 3: has the most flexible ankles?
[15:59] Speaker 1: Right? That?
[16:00] Speaker 3: Is this the new model? How did nobody else see
[16:03] Speaker 3: this coming? And then to absolutely get shellacked after all
[16:07] Speaker 3: of that love.
[16:09] Speaker 2: That's kind of funny too.
[16:10] Speaker 3: That you know he is he is being treated like
[16:13] Speaker 3: a god, right that we have all been just like
[16:16] Speaker 3: relegating to Indiana University Pennsylvania and James Madison and this
[16:20] Speaker 3: god has been lurking amongst us, right. He's the Joan
[16:23] Speaker 3: Osborne of this situation, isn't that Joan Osbourne?
[16:27] Speaker 2: One of us?
[16:28] Speaker 1: Who? Yeah?
[16:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah?
[16:29] Speaker 3: So him now playing on the possible coaching a team
[16:34] Speaker 3: on the biggest possible stage with the Heisman winner and
[16:37] Speaker 3: then getting just the the be Jesus beaten out of them,
[16:43] Speaker 3: that'd be kind of funny too.
[16:45] Speaker 1: I don't know around here talking like Signette should take
[16:47] Speaker 1: the Steelers job now that it's so sure?
[16:49] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Why why even coach this game when you
[16:53] Speaker 3: could be preparing your speech for the Football Hall of Fame?
[16:56] Speaker 1: Right? Okay, So that's that.
[16:58] Speaker 3: I mean there's a certain level of that as well.
[17:00] Speaker 3: It's all pain for me, to be clear, as an
[17:03] Speaker 3: Oregon fan. All of this, all of this conversation, this
[17:08] Speaker 3: word cloud that we're building, Tie, it's all pain for me.
[17:12] Speaker 3: So I hope the Indiana fans and Miami fans are
[17:15] Speaker 3: equally giggled and tickled and everything at me having to
[17:19] Speaker 3: experience on one side the coach who decided that Oregon
[17:23] Speaker 3: wasn't for him, and then on the other side a
[17:26] Speaker 3: team who has beaten Oregon down twice in the last
[17:30] Speaker 3: three months.
[17:31] Speaker 1: See, if I'm an Oregon fan, though I'm rooting for Indiana.
[17:34] Speaker 1: You can't root for Crystal Ball because he left you
[17:36] Speaker 1: high and drive. But you can't root for Indiana because
[17:38] Speaker 1: if you're going to lose to anybody. Literally the only
[17:41] Speaker 1: team two losses one team for Oregon this year was
[17:45] Speaker 1: against Indiana. So I know I had an old baseball
[17:49] Speaker 1: coach who would tell me there's only one team happy
[17:51] Speaker 1: at the end of the year. Wouldn't you rather lose
[17:53] Speaker 1: to that team knowing that you went toe to toe
[17:54] Speaker 1: with them twice? Maybe you weren't good enow, but at
[17:57] Speaker 1: least it sort of validates losing to them as not
[18:00] Speaker 1: being uh, you know, losing to a cream puff or
[18:03] Speaker 1: something totally.
[18:04] Speaker 3: And look when you look at like who Danning has
[18:06] Speaker 3: lost to at Oregon these past two three four.
[18:08] Speaker 1: Year are calling him Danning? Now?
[18:10] Speaker 2: Is that Dan? I just I just murmured it.
[18:12] Speaker 1: I just Okay, Dan, Like, I kn't like that anyway.
[18:15] Speaker 3: Uh you know it's Washington who's in the National Championship
[18:19] Speaker 3: twice that season, It's Indiana this year, it's Ohio State
[18:23] Speaker 3: last season, right that, Like Oregon is this world class loser.
[18:26] Speaker 3: They only lose to the best. And that's not great
[18:29] Speaker 3: either as an Oregon fan. Like as as impressive as
[18:32] Speaker 3: it is that you only don't lose dumb games. And
[18:34] Speaker 3: I know, like this is insane that I'm making this
[18:36] Speaker 3: about Oregon when they're not playing in this game. But
[18:38] Speaker 3: I'm just giving you my perspective as a co host
[18:41] Speaker 3: of this show. Uh yeah, I would. I would take
[18:43] Speaker 3: Indiana from a pure Oregon perspective as a co host
[18:47] Speaker 3: of the Soliverble.
[18:47] Speaker 1: I just want to watch great football, all right, I
[18:50] Speaker 1: got a couple more. Okay, what worries you the most
[18:53] Speaker 1: for Indiana?
[18:56] Speaker 3: What worries me the most for Indiana is much more
[19:01] Speaker 3: circumstantial than based in reality of on field play. If
[19:06] Speaker 3: I were worried about Indiana, if I were an Indiana
[19:09] Speaker 3: fan and I was starting to get worried about this game,
[19:12] Speaker 3: it's one A National championship stage is even bigger than
[19:16] Speaker 3: the stage. Is that they've been on in the Rose
[19:18] Speaker 3: Bowl and what the Peach Bowl, and two their wins
[19:22] Speaker 3: in the playoff this year came against teams that are
[19:28] Speaker 3: or were in some degree of turmoil that you know,
[19:33] Speaker 3: Oregon with injuries and coordinators leaving and the offense sort
[19:40] Speaker 3: of sputtering later on in the season for Oregon at times.
[19:43] Speaker 3: You know, the offense wasn't great against Texas Tech, and
[19:48] Speaker 3: it was a team that they had already beaten and
[19:49] Speaker 3: felt confident against. And Alabama's obviously to whatever degree you
[19:54] Speaker 3: feel like they're in turmoil with you know, a bunch
[19:56] Speaker 3: of transfers leaving, the way that they finished their season,
[19:59] Speaker 3: losing to Georgia like handily in the SEC championship game,
[20:03] Speaker 3: not performing well against teams like Auburn and LSU whoever,
[20:06] Speaker 3: and you know the quarterback leaving, which, by the way,
[20:09] Speaker 3: the sidebar here of Ty Simpson leaving for the NFL,
[20:13] Speaker 3: getting like six and six and a half million dollar
[20:15] Speaker 3: offers and saying like, I'm a I'm too proud an
[20:18] Speaker 3: Alabama captain to go anywhere else, like it wasn't that
[20:24] Speaker 3: good for him. I'm enjoy the Jets, my friend, right,
[20:29] Speaker 3: I uh, I would be worried a little bit, worried
[20:32] Speaker 3: that their path has been paved with kind of fractured programs.
[20:38] Speaker 3: At the moment, Okay, beating Oregon is still excellent. I'm
[20:41] Speaker 3: not very good wins, but they're all I take horrific wins,
[20:45] Speaker 3: and they beat them down, right, It's not we're not
[20:47] Speaker 3: taying they beat them twenty eight fourteen. They beat these
[20:50] Speaker 3: teams down. They suffocated them, They were boa constrictors, they
[20:53] Speaker 3: castrated these teams.
[20:55] Speaker 2: Take whatever verb you want.
[20:58] Speaker 3: So that would be all worry that Miami is in
[21:01] Speaker 3: a more stable place, and the game is a home
[21:04] Speaker 3: game for Miami. Okay, And so you're just talking about
[21:07] Speaker 3: the emotion of this game. You're talking about the stability
[21:10] Speaker 3: of opponents, and you're talking about maybe a little bit
[21:13] Speaker 3: of the math coming back to bite Indiana that like
[21:16] Speaker 3: the they never lose fumbles, they never are penalized whatever,
[21:19] Speaker 3: and like just the universe saying like we're going to
[21:23] Speaker 3: even this out a little bit here with a dumb
[21:26] Speaker 3: mistake that you feel like you're immune to, and everybody's
[21:29] Speaker 3: talking up Indiana doesn't make mistakes. Indiana doesn't beat themselves.
[21:33] Speaker 3: And it's like sometimes the universe evens out a little bit,
[21:37] Speaker 3: and it's just football, and the ball bounces the wrong
[21:39] Speaker 3: way on a fumble that would be the more circumstantial,
[21:43] Speaker 3: like college football.
[21:44] Speaker 2: Gods, worry what about you?
[21:46] Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean I think all of those are really
[21:48] Speaker 1: really good points. For me, It's very simple, and I
[21:51] Speaker 1: promise I will talk more about this. I want to
[21:53] Speaker 1: get through these questions here. For me. If Indiana can't run,
[21:56] Speaker 1: that's a problem. If Indiana can't run against Miami, I
[21:59] Speaker 1: think I think that is an indicator that there are
[22:03] Speaker 1: some other problem areas that could come back to bite
[22:06] Speaker 1: their offense in this game. So I just trotted down
[22:08] Speaker 1: simply if they can't.
[22:10] Speaker 2: Run, Yeah, and I pray run defense this season.
[22:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, I will unpack that more. Let's flip it around.
[22:15] Speaker 1: What worries you the most for Miami? Let me answer first. Yeah,
[22:19] Speaker 1: I'm worried about Miami having to play from behind in
[22:22] Speaker 1: this game. Okay, because I think the template that I
[22:26] Speaker 1: will speak to here in just a little bit is
[22:30] Speaker 1: one where they play bullyball like we've seen them play
[22:33] Speaker 1: in the playoff. It's been very effective for them over
[22:35] Speaker 1: the course of the last few games. But that is
[22:38] Speaker 1: not to say that falling behind by a touchdown or
[22:41] Speaker 1: even ten points is the end of the world. But
[22:44] Speaker 1: if they get down like fourteen to seventeen points, let's
[22:48] Speaker 1: say early in the third quarter, and suddenly they've got
[22:51] Speaker 1: to air it out, they can't lead on that ground attack.
[22:54] Speaker 1: Indiana can do what it does really well, which is
[22:56] Speaker 1: the sky's coverages and find ways to bring pressure against
[22:59] Speaker 1: cars and back. That situation, to me seems like it
[23:03] Speaker 1: would be a really bad deal for Miami. So them
[23:06] Speaker 1: playing from behind again not necessarily a blowout, but playing
[23:10] Speaker 1: two three scores behind, I think is a is a
[23:13] Speaker 1: real problem for the Keynes.
[23:15] Speaker 2: I agree. Yeah.
[23:18] Speaker 3: It's what Indiana does so well is they dictate the
[23:21] Speaker 3: terms of the fight, and so it's also what Miami
[23:25] Speaker 3: does very very well that they dictate that this is
[23:27] Speaker 3: going to be a slog that this is going to
[23:29] Speaker 3: be a rock fight that they're going to get. You know,
[23:31] Speaker 3: when you think that they're just going to keep going
[23:33] Speaker 3: for three and four yards, they figure out something creative
[23:35] Speaker 3: to do with Malachai Toni or something. So, yes, Indiana
[23:40] Speaker 3: succeeding in determining the terms of this, whether it's forcing
[23:45] Speaker 3: Miami to throw a lot more than they'd like and
[23:48] Speaker 3: maybe I think if you're Miami, it's which version of
[23:52] Speaker 3: Miami discipline do we get here? And so the fear
[23:57] Speaker 3: if you're Miami, it's not just that like you're behind
[23:59] Speaker 3: and you have the throw and you have to you know,
[24:01] Speaker 3: run tempo, which they don't do. They're a very like,
[24:03] Speaker 3: not slow, but deliberate team in the way that they
[24:06] Speaker 3: manage their offense. It's playing behind the sticks too often,
[24:12] Speaker 3: right that they get a nice Mark Fletcher five yard
[24:14] Speaker 3: run on first down and then a false start, then
[24:17] Speaker 3: a personal foul or something like that. We saw the
[24:20] Speaker 3: penalties almost compound against Ole Miss late in that game,
[24:25] Speaker 3: and again once again we talked about, you know, the
[24:27] Speaker 3: idea that Miami had a moment where it seemed like
[24:29] Speaker 3: they were unraveling. So if Miami is taking itself out
[24:33] Speaker 3: of position too often and surrendering drives in a game, which,
[24:37] Speaker 3: by the way, both of these teams are quite deliberate
[24:40] Speaker 3: in terms of tempo. So if I'm Miami and I
[24:43] Speaker 3: absolutely waste a seven minute drive at some point, especially
[24:47] Speaker 3: in the first half, that it's seven minutes, you know,
[24:50] Speaker 3: the Canes are churning and they're getting first downs and
[24:53] Speaker 3: then a penalty. Fully takes them out of that drive
[24:55] Speaker 3: and it ends with a miss field goal or a
[24:57] Speaker 3: punt or something like that. Just the math with how
[25:00] Speaker 3: they like to play does not add up because the
[25:02] Speaker 3: drives are going to be limited in this one. So
[25:05] Speaker 3: I'd be terrified if Miami mounts a long drive that
[25:08] Speaker 3: nets them nothing at some point in the first half,
[25:11] Speaker 3: because wasting that much time without points, especially six is
[25:16] Speaker 3: can be quite brutal for how Miami likes to.
[25:19] Speaker 1: Play, which is just wearing teams down over the course
[25:24] Speaker 1: of four quarters. Final two questions. Okay, yeah, what would
[25:30] Speaker 1: it mean if Miami wins this game?
[25:33] Speaker 3: If Miami wins this game, it is one hundred percent
[25:36] Speaker 3: proof of concept of Mario Cristobal's decision and excellence and
[25:41] Speaker 3: vision for this Miami program. You get the really like
[25:47] Speaker 3: heartwarming narrative of his homecoming playing for Miami coming back home.
[25:53] Speaker 3: Winning this game can tell every single little weenie like
[25:57] Speaker 3: myself who doubted this move to shove it and it's
[26:04] Speaker 3: it's nothing but incredible vibes from Miami.
[26:06] Speaker 1: Uh.
[26:07] Speaker 3: Moving forward now with that, now becomes the expectations of Miami,
[26:12] Speaker 3: which have always been get back to previous versions of Miami,
[26:17] Speaker 3: which Mario Christobal has been very, very careful to sort
[26:20] Speaker 3: of turn away from saying like we have no interest
[26:24] Speaker 3: in going back. Our eyes are only on the future,
[26:26] Speaker 3: which I think is a very savvy way to very
[26:28] Speaker 3: Mark maguire, you're talking about that past.
[26:30] Speaker 1: We want to talk about the future.
[26:32] Speaker 3: But like it's an impossible ask to say, like get
[26:35] Speaker 3: the get the you back to where they were at
[26:37] Speaker 3: in the early nineties or early two thousands, because it
[26:39] Speaker 3: just we don't exist in that universe. So Mario Christball
[26:42] Speaker 3: very smartly says like that's it's an impossible ask, and
[26:47] Speaker 3: it's an impossible journey to get to that point once again,
[26:50] Speaker 3: just because it's twenty twenty six, and like you're not
[26:53] Speaker 3: living in reality if you want that. But if the if,
[26:57] Speaker 3: the idea and the expectation from Miami fans is national relevance,
[27:01] Speaker 3: always be competing for national championships, and then you win
[27:03] Speaker 3: a national championship, then Mario Cristobal's seat not doesn't become hotter,
[27:11] Speaker 3: but the throne becomes more diamond studded. And with that,
[27:16] Speaker 3: you're now asking him, Okay, you need to compete for
[27:19] Speaker 3: national championships every season, and you better give us a
[27:21] Speaker 3: good reason why we're not this year if we're not
[27:25] Speaker 3: right that now the expectations are so much hotter for
[27:32] Speaker 3: Miami moving forward, good and bad. And I would add
[27:35] Speaker 3: to that on a more macro level, it's a very
[27:38] Speaker 3: big deal for the ACC. It's a very big deal,
[27:42] Speaker 3: even huge even for the Big Twelve by extension, because
[27:44] Speaker 3: so much of the conversation in the playoff era has
[27:47] Speaker 3: been about what the SEC and the Big Ten want
[27:50] Speaker 3: to do. We're hearing it now, by the way, as
[27:51] Speaker 3: they talk about what the next version of this playoff
[27:54] Speaker 3: is going to look like.
[27:55] Speaker 1: You know, it's all about the SEC and the Big Ten.
[27:58] Speaker 1: Can Tony Patiti and Greg Sanki come to some sort
[28:00] Speaker 1: of a cord and move a sixteen team thing forward?
[28:03] Speaker 1: And I'm already tired of that. But all too often
[28:07] Speaker 1: in this conversation, the ACC and conferences like the Big
[28:10] Speaker 1: Twelve by extension are sort of on the outside looking in.
[28:14] Speaker 1: There wasn't even a guarantee that Miami was going to
[28:15] Speaker 1: get into this field, you know, we had no idea,
[28:18] Speaker 1: and it really came down to the very final version
[28:22] Speaker 1: of the playoff rankings before we found out that that
[28:24] Speaker 1: was in fact the case, and we could talk till
[28:25] Speaker 1: we're blue in the face about the process and how
[28:27] Speaker 1: it's weird and it wasn't clearly communicated and the Tuesday
[28:31] Speaker 1: night shows are ridiculous and like, all of that stuff
[28:33] Speaker 1: is still true, but it doesn't invalidate what Miami did
[28:37] Speaker 1: this season. It doesn't invalidate Miami's case for being there.
[28:39] Speaker 1: They did beat Notre Dame Mai, Notre Dame fighting Irish.
[28:42] Speaker 1: I think they very much had a stake to be
[28:45] Speaker 1: in this thing. I claim to be in this thing
[28:47] Speaker 1: and the fact that they have made it this far
[28:50] Speaker 1: is not only a testament to them, but also, to
[28:53] Speaker 1: some extent maybe the process that got them in. And
[28:55] Speaker 1: I would say on a much bigger level, the ACC
[28:58] Speaker 1: as a whole. Right, if you have any team that
[29:00] Speaker 1: makes it out of your conference ends up winning the
[29:02] Speaker 1: national championship, that bodes well for that conference moving forward.
[29:06] Speaker 1: So this would be a huge feather in the cap
[29:08] Speaker 1: of the ACC if they were able to go on
[29:10] Speaker 1: and win this.
[29:11] Speaker 3: Thing, especially since they didn't beat a Big twelve team.
[29:15] Speaker 3: They didn't beat lowly ranked Cinderella Stories or a G
[29:19] Speaker 3: five team in this playoff, right, they beat a Texas
[29:22] Speaker 3: A and M team, from the SEC who won a
[29:24] Speaker 3: ton of games. Yeah, we ignore who texts A and
[29:26] Speaker 3: M actually beat. But they went to Texas A and
[29:29] Speaker 3: M and won that game a very difficult place to win.
[29:32] Speaker 1: In crazy windy and weather conditions.
[29:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, they went to a team that was number one
[29:37] Speaker 3: in the country for like fourteen weeks this year. They
[29:40] Speaker 3: didn't go to them, but they beat them on a
[29:42] Speaker 3: neutral field in Ohio State and beat them by double digits,
[29:47] Speaker 3: not a small deal for Miami the ACC and then
[29:50] Speaker 3: beat the SEC's Alpha the last man standing Ole Miss
[29:54] Speaker 3: in their semi final matchup. And they've just they've won
[29:59] Speaker 3: games exactly. How you know, if you're to believe a game,
[30:02] Speaker 3: is this like humanized sentient whatever, Like how the game dictated, right,
[30:07] Speaker 3: They took what the game asked of them, whether it
[30:10] Speaker 3: was from Ohio State in absorbing Jeremiah Smith but not
[30:13] Speaker 3: letting them score thirty in the process, getting the stops
[30:17] Speaker 3: when they needed the stops and getting those like crucial
[30:19] Speaker 3: third downs when they needed those crucial third downs. They
[30:22] Speaker 3: won the games. How the games dictated, they win, and
[30:25] Speaker 3: it was more scoring needed against Ole Miss.
[30:28] Speaker 2: They scored.
[30:28] Speaker 3: They made it work, they made it happen. They limited mistakes.
[30:32] Speaker 3: The penalties weren't great against Ole miss Maybe that's something
[30:35] Speaker 3: we can talk about more. But that for the acc
[30:39] Speaker 3: to run through a big ten power in two sec
[30:42] Speaker 3: games on the way to not just appearing in this game,
[30:46] Speaker 3: but winning this game, it's a huge deal.
[30:48] Speaker 1: You a very big deal. Okay, let's flip it around Indiana. Yeah. Weirdly,
[30:53] Speaker 1: to me, we've talked a lot more about what it
[30:56] Speaker 1: would mean if Indiana wins. We've done that already. We've
[30:59] Speaker 1: been having that converse throughout the playoffs. We've been having
[31:01] Speaker 1: that conversation frankly since Indiana made it last year. So
[31:05] Speaker 1: the Miami side of this, albeit there at home, there's
[31:09] Speaker 1: a lot of history with them coming back home. It's
[31:12] Speaker 1: been twenty five year, all this stuff, even though all
[31:14] Speaker 1: of that remains unchanged, I still feel like that aspect
[31:19] Speaker 1: of this has been undercovered as compared to the Indiana story,
[31:23] Speaker 1: which admittedly is crazy. It's great, it's improbable, it's crazy.
[31:29] Speaker 1: It's like a million different adjectives wrapped into one. So
[31:33] Speaker 1: what's it mean if Indiana does go on to win
[31:35] Speaker 1: this thing?
[31:35] Speaker 3: Dan, it's the most improbable national champion of the modern era,
[31:40] Speaker 3: if not ever and Indiana is a product of the times,
[31:45] Speaker 3: which every national champion is, but these are you know,
[31:48] Speaker 3: different times as it relates to the you know whatever
[31:50] Speaker 3: twenty years the modern era before this, it's a more
[31:53] Speaker 3: difficult conference to win for Indiana, but it's easier to
[31:57] Speaker 3: build a competitive roster. Indiana did not build a competitive roster.
[32:01] Speaker 3: Indiana build a roster of killers, and they killed immediately,
[32:06] Speaker 3: and so that's never been done ever in this timetable.
[32:10] Speaker 3: So for Indiana, everything is you know, we've all been
[32:13] Speaker 3: through this conversation a million times, right the losing this
[32:16] Speaker 3: program ever, blah blah blah, they've an afterthought. There are
[32:19] Speaker 3: no football fans there. It's a traditional basketball school. They're
[32:22] Speaker 3: not even the premier school and their state with regard
[32:25] Speaker 3: to football. For them to come not just out of
[32:30] Speaker 3: the shadows, but to come out of the desert of
[32:33] Speaker 3: this sport to do this is as improbable as it gets.
[32:39] Speaker 3: Like we could have had a conversation five years ago,
[32:42] Speaker 3: and if we were to like draft teams, that seem
[32:46] Speaker 3: the most improbable to build a national championship contender. Given
[32:50] Speaker 3: where they are and where they've been and what the
[32:52] Speaker 3: sport is, Indiana has unbelievable wingspan and leaps out of
[32:58] Speaker 3: the gym r They're like an obvious draft pick of
[33:03] Speaker 3: Power Conference teams who were like, I just I can't
[33:06] Speaker 3: even squint and see a path. No, no, and that
[33:09] Speaker 3: they've hired with the money they haven't spent.
[33:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, everything.
[33:12] Speaker 1: It wasn't all that long ago that we were looking
[33:14] Speaker 1: at like a six and six or seven and five
[33:18] Speaker 1: season with yeah, you know, Tom Allen, Kevin Wilson, if
[33:21] Speaker 1: you want to go back to like the mid twenty tens,
[33:25] Speaker 1: and you know, we looked at that as an enormous
[33:28] Speaker 1: success for Indiana football, right you know, that was that
[33:31] Speaker 1: was by far exceeding what expectations were in the preseason.
[33:35] Speaker 1: So nobody had fifteen and zero in the Bingo card, nobody,
[33:39] Speaker 1: and I think we acknowledged at the start of the
[33:42] Speaker 1: year that we thought Indiana would be better, but the
[33:44] Speaker 1: schedule was harder. And you know, I'm not gonna be
[33:48] Speaker 1: too critical of our preseason commentary in Indiana because nobody
[33:52] Speaker 1: had this, even Indiana fans didn't have this. It. This
[33:55] Speaker 1: has certainly been a charm season with the right players
[33:59] Speaker 1: and the right co at the right time, and they
[34:01] Speaker 1: have been as you said, killers, what would this mean
[34:04] Speaker 1: for Indiana? You know, I we tend to talk about
[34:07] Speaker 1: everything in a college football sense here, but I did
[34:11] Speaker 1: a radio hit this past weekend with a friend, Steve
[34:14] Speaker 1: Zaben down in DC. Yeah, and zeb asked the question
[34:19] Speaker 1: exactly this, what would it mean if Indiana wins? And
[34:21] Speaker 1: he went on to say, in my lifetime as a
[34:26] Speaker 1: sports fan does this not rank as one of the
[34:29] Speaker 1: best sports stories ever?
[34:32] Speaker 2: I think so? Does it not rank?
[34:34] Speaker 1: Is it not? At least in that conversation? And it
[34:36] Speaker 1: had never been presented to me in such terms, But
[34:40] Speaker 1: I've been thinking about that since I went on the
[34:42] Speaker 1: radio with him, and I think it tracks. I mean,
[34:46] Speaker 1: it's really up there. And so what does this mean
[34:49] Speaker 1: in a college football since? Give it what Indiana has done,
[34:53] Speaker 1: as you said, the timetable so quickly building it in
[34:56] Speaker 1: this capacity with the new coach and winning it and
[34:58] Speaker 1: going from rags to riches so quickly, like in a
[35:02] Speaker 1: college football sense, that is proof of concept for a
[35:04] Speaker 1: thousand different things, certainly related to the portal and nil
[35:08] Speaker 1: and Kurt Signetti, but just in a broader sports conversation,
[35:12] Speaker 1: we got to consider this at least as one of
[35:15] Speaker 1: the great stories we have seen in our lifetimes, and
[35:17] Speaker 1: I don't know where it ranks. We can have that
[35:19] Speaker 1: conversation maybe in the off season if it comes to it.
[35:21] Speaker 1: But for Kurt Signetti to get Indiana here so quickly,
[35:27] Speaker 1: you couldn't even have bet on this five years, No,
[35:30] Speaker 1: you could. You wouldn't even get odds if you tried
[35:32] Speaker 1: to bet on this, That's how improbable it felt there.
[35:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's something about I just I'm thinking about like
[35:39] Speaker 3: the Indiana teams of your and the conversations right there there,
[35:43] Speaker 3: you know that like L E O love everyone Tom
[35:46] Speaker 3: Allen teams, like the majority of the time that we
[35:49] Speaker 3: would talk about Indiana games, you know, hold it against us,
[35:52] Speaker 3: their tone.
[35:53] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[35:53] Speaker 3: It's just like I like this one guy. I like
[35:57] Speaker 3: Tye Fry Fogel, right, what a pull? I was like
[36:01] Speaker 3: four days ago. You know. It was the two names
[36:04] Speaker 3: that I was like, I was like, who are the
[36:06] Speaker 3: guys that we would talk about like they're not good?
[36:08] Speaker 3: This guy's got like kind of fun, this guy's got
[36:11] Speaker 3: some some spirit. The other one was wap Filiar because
[36:14] Speaker 3: you just want to talk. Yeah, I thought, maybe you're
[36:17] Speaker 3: gonna go Cody Latimer.
[36:18] Speaker 1: That was another one.
[36:19] Speaker 3: No mind, No, but like, look, this is Indiana program
[36:22] Speaker 3: where like they had a decent quarterback in Peyton Ramsey,
[36:25] Speaker 3: and as he's finishing out his career at Indiana.
[36:27] Speaker 1: He's like, you know what, I want to give myself
[36:29] Speaker 1: one real shot.
[36:30] Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to Northwestern, right Yeah, And that's that's
[36:37] Speaker 3: been Indiana. So that sort of reversal, right, it it
[36:40] Speaker 3: sort of cements Kurt Signetti as a modern miracle worker.
[36:45] Speaker 3: It's cements you know, Fernando Mendoza as an absolute college
[36:49] Speaker 3: football legend.
[36:50] Speaker 2: For doing this in a year.
[36:52] Speaker 3: Like even if you want to look at recent extremely
[36:55] Speaker 3: dominant teams like twenty nineteen LSU or whatever, like Joe
[36:58] Speaker 3: Burrow was there two years, He was decent in his
[37:01] Speaker 3: first year and then was a monster there. I guess
[37:03] Speaker 3: you could talk about Joe Brady in that context, however
[37:05] Speaker 3: you want to look at it. Sure, but it's just
[37:09] Speaker 3: the time of this happening. This happened in the Big Ten.
[37:13] Speaker 3: This is Indiana winning games against Ohio State and Michigan
[37:17] Speaker 3: and Oregon and Penn State, like all of these major
[37:20] Speaker 3: major programs that have decades upon decades of goodwill built
[37:24] Speaker 3: on the football field. Over Indiana and Indiana just coming
[37:28] Speaker 3: in and be like that's old news, that's old news.
[37:31] Speaker 1: Who cares. I remember watching a game and I don't
[37:34] Speaker 1: even remember what it was. It might have been like
[37:37] Speaker 1: two thousand and nine, something like that. I remember Andre
[37:42] Speaker 1: Ware was on the call for ESPN, and every other
[37:46] Speaker 1: word out of his mouth was about James Hardy Theers,
[37:50] Speaker 1: a big wide receiver they used to have who was
[37:52] Speaker 1: very good there. But you're right, it's all too often
[37:56] Speaker 1: been a conversation about a player or two who's interesting
[38:00] Speaker 1: on Indiana, not the team. I think we got to
[38:03] Speaker 1: talk about the case for each team, Dan, and we'll
[38:07] Speaker 1: flip it over to the Miami side of the coin here,
[38:09] Speaker 1: because I think there's more to talk about with respect
[38:12] Speaker 1: to Miami. Build the case for Miami to win this game.
[38:15] Speaker 1: What are the keys for them to win this game?
[38:18] Speaker 2: How do you see it?
[38:19] Speaker 1: If Miami ends up winning this how do they do it?
[38:23] Speaker 3: They dictate the terms right, It's the line play on offense,
[38:28] Speaker 3: generating a bunch of third and threes and converting backbreaking
[38:32] Speaker 3: third downs like we saw against I think CJ. Daniels
[38:34] Speaker 3: has been sort of the master of that recently, you know,
[38:37] Speaker 3: catching those tight passes in traffic on third and six
[38:39] Speaker 3: for seven and a half yards knowing where the sticks are.
[38:42] Speaker 3: That's a big deal on offense. I think riding the
[38:46] Speaker 3: balance really nicely, not abandoning Mark Fletcher like they sort
[38:50] Speaker 3: of did against Texas A and M and the wind
[38:52] Speaker 3: until going back to Mark Fletcher. I think that was
[38:54] Speaker 3: a big deal when they sort of went with what
[38:57] Speaker 3: was working. So yeah, Miami under thinking this and going
[39:02] Speaker 3: with what's working would be a great, great.
[39:04] Speaker 2: Leg up in this game.
[39:07] Speaker 1: Let me add something to that please. I jotted down
[39:11] Speaker 1: play big dumb Mario ball. Okay, Miami is bigger than
[39:16] Speaker 1: Indiana on the lines, and we have seen Miami use
[39:21] Speaker 1: this to great effect with how they've run the ball
[39:23] Speaker 1: through the playoffs and they dominated with their defensive line. Obviously,
[39:27] Speaker 1: we've talked a lot about that. Yep, zoom out a
[39:30] Speaker 1: little bit more, and I think what we have seen
[39:36] Speaker 1: with the big dumb Mario ball is one of the
[39:39] Speaker 1: big reasons why Miami has been able to turn two
[39:43] Speaker 1: of their three playoff games into slug fests. I think
[39:47] Speaker 1: it is essential that they play a slug fest, play
[39:50] Speaker 1: bully ball against Indiana f they want to win this game.
[39:54] Speaker 1: You do not want Indiana playing with momentum. That to
[39:58] Speaker 1: me feels like when they're most dang and when they
[40:00] Speaker 1: take your soul.
[40:01] Speaker 3: Oh, you don't think gifting pick sixes and uh punt.
[40:04] Speaker 3: I don't about it. I don't think it's good. Is
[40:08] Speaker 3: that not the move against Indiana? I just not told
[40:11] Speaker 3: that to Dan Lanning a couple of weeks ago.
[40:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, send it to Danny. I'm gonna call him that now.
[40:16] Speaker 2: I like Danning.
[40:17] Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh. If I'm Miami, I want to beat him up.
[40:19] Speaker 1: I want to beat up Indiana. Nobody's really been able
[40:22] Speaker 1: to stop Fernana Mendoza, So let's just do our best
[40:24] Speaker 1: to keep him off the field, right, play the big
[40:27] Speaker 1: dumb merriiaball right, play the volleyball, eat the clock, try
[40:32] Speaker 1: to keep.
[40:32] Speaker 3: Fernando off the field as best you can. To our
[40:34] Speaker 3: earlier conversation, though, you can't come away with zero on
[40:37] Speaker 3: a seven minute trive.
[40:38] Speaker 1: No no no, no no no. Right.
[40:40] Speaker 3: So that's that's the worry that when you play slow,
[40:42] Speaker 3: when you play deliberate, when you convert every third and
[40:44] Speaker 3: three and then suddenly you're on the Indiana thirty seven
[40:48] Speaker 3: and it's third and nine.
[40:49] Speaker 1: Absolutely don't convert. You're like, that's the killer.
[40:52] Speaker 3: That's that's why it's such a high wire act to
[40:55] Speaker 3: play this way, because if you fall behind once, it
[40:58] Speaker 3: kills you.
[40:59] Speaker 1: Couldn't a Green Moore. Couldn't a Green Moore? What else
[41:01] Speaker 1: you got?
[41:03] Speaker 3: I got a bunch on Miami. I mean again, the
[41:05] Speaker 3: case from Miami is not that complicated. The beat Ohio
[41:07] Speaker 3: State by more than Indiana did recently and pulled out
[41:10] Speaker 3: a losable game there. They beat the SEC's Alpha again
[41:13] Speaker 3: Ole miss in a losible game. They want a rock
[41:16] Speaker 3: fight against Texas A and m in a losible game.
[41:18] Speaker 3: To me, this looks like a losible game. When you're
[41:20] Speaker 3: a dog by what seven and a half, eight and
[41:22] Speaker 3: a half points in this moment, it's a losible moment
[41:24] Speaker 3: for Miami. Miami is not going to play out of itself, right.
[41:30] Speaker 3: They're not going to be an air ra team all
[41:31] Speaker 3: of a sudden. They're not going to alter their identity
[41:34] Speaker 3: because it's going to be unexpected and we'll catch them
[41:36] Speaker 3: by surprise.
[41:37] Speaker 2: Miami's just not going to be that team.
[41:38] Speaker 1: There is a little bit of too Q to clock
[41:41] Speaker 1: though in Shannon Dawson. I mean, we've seen that with
[41:44] Speaker 1: the times with the Malacat thing that they do, the
[41:46] Speaker 1: Wildcat featuring Malachai Tony. And we've seen a couple of
[41:49] Speaker 1: trick plays like the flea flicker that I think we
[41:53] Speaker 1: saw the last game, Like I mean, I could we've
[41:55] Speaker 1: seen some of these weird play calls from them at times.
[42:00] Speaker 1: But beyond that, You're right, they're not really playing outside
[42:03] Speaker 1: what they're good at. There very much. I can tell
[42:05] Speaker 1: you this.
[42:05] Speaker 3: I can tell you this, and Malchai Toni can throw.
[42:10] Speaker 3: But there has never been a time where I've watched
[42:13] Speaker 3: a team line up for a direct snap to a
[42:15] Speaker 3: running back or receiver and felt, ooh, the defense is
[42:19] Speaker 3: in trouble. Now, the defense is in real trouble.
[42:22] Speaker 1: Now. It works better in the video game than it
[42:24] Speaker 1: does in real life. I'll tell you that. Yeah.
[42:26] Speaker 3: And if there's one team that's likelier to run a
[42:29] Speaker 3: direct snap and a crucial time, it's Miami. Yes, but
[42:31] Speaker 3: you asked me what's the case for Miami? So I'm
[42:33] Speaker 3: going to continue.
[42:34] Speaker 1: Please.
[42:35] Speaker 3: The ceiling of their collective line talent seems very high,
[42:38] Speaker 3: and in a spot like this that seems important. Carson
[42:41] Speaker 3: Beck has experience. This is not his first BRIG game,
[42:44] Speaker 3: this is not his first time against an excellent defense
[42:47] Speaker 3: like this moment is not too big for his experience
[42:50] Speaker 3: and story thus far.
[42:52] Speaker 2: How about you were talking.
[42:53] Speaker 3: About the connective tissue by the way of Fernao Mendoza
[42:56] Speaker 3: and the city of Miami and his dad and Cristball
[42:58] Speaker 3: and everything like that.
[42:59] Speaker 2: Corey Heatherman is from the Kurt Signetti tree.
[43:02] Speaker 1: Yep, that's right.
[43:03] Speaker 3: He was a James Madison defensive coordinator. I'm not saying
[43:06] Speaker 3: that's a huge difference in this game. Corey Heatherman's was
[43:09] Speaker 3: like Broyle's quality assistant this year. He's a very very
[43:12] Speaker 3: good defensive coach, and so maybe, just maybe he remembers
[43:17] Speaker 3: a couple of like the rhythms, the in game rhythms
[43:19] Speaker 3: of Kurt Signetti. I'm not saying he's diagnosing everything well,
[43:23] Speaker 3: but he's familiarity there.
[43:25] Speaker 1: I do think one of the keys for Miami is
[43:30] Speaker 1: can Heatherman dial up away to stop the run without
[43:33] Speaker 1: over committing. Sure, let me give credit to Robbie Kallen
[43:37] Speaker 1: over at CBS now who put this nugget out there
[43:43] Speaker 1: a few days ago. When Indiana averages four or more
[43:47] Speaker 1: yards per carry, the Hoosiers average margin of victory is
[43:51] Speaker 1: forty two point eight points per game. That's ten games
[43:54] Speaker 1: so far this year. When they average less than four
[43:57] Speaker 1: yards per carry, their average margin of victory is nine points,
[44:01] Speaker 1: and that happened in five games. Now Indiana won all
[44:03] Speaker 1: those games, but it does speak a little bit. I
[44:05] Speaker 1: think to the formula on defense. Indiana runs a bunch
[44:08] Speaker 1: of RPOs that are dependent on Fernanda mendoz that will
[44:12] Speaker 1: process what's going on. But the run game, the run
[44:15] Speaker 1: game on the Indiana side, despite the fact that Fernanda
[44:18] Speaker 1: Mendozi won the Heisman and as the talk of the
[44:20] Speaker 1: town is probably be the first overall pick and all
[44:22] Speaker 1: that right, the Indiana run game is an underrated aspect
[44:27] Speaker 1: of this offense, and I think they need it in
[44:29] Speaker 1: order for the whole thing to work. Sure, Miami needs
[44:32] Speaker 1: to stop it. I think if they can stop it,
[44:34] Speaker 1: if they can sort of make Indiana a little bit
[44:37] Speaker 1: more one dimensional than they're used to, that could have
[44:39] Speaker 1: some positive ramifications for them, to say the least. But
[44:43] Speaker 1: they cannot do so by over committing, because if they
[44:46] Speaker 1: over commit, that's when Elijah Surat beats you one on one.
[44:49] Speaker 1: That's when guys like Charlie Becker beat you over the top,
[44:52] Speaker 1: and they don't drop passes that'll drop. Nobody ever drops
[44:55] Speaker 1: a pass on this team. No, So you gotta find
[44:59] Speaker 1: a way to stop that run without the over committing thing.
[45:01] Speaker 1: Otherwise that's when Banana Mendoza diagnoses very quickly the saft
[45:06] Speaker 1: spot of the defense and he kills you. I don't
[45:08] Speaker 1: know if Miami can do this, but I think if
[45:10] Speaker 1: anybody can do this, it's Miami with the beef that
[45:12] Speaker 1: they have up front. So whether that's a Heatherman thing
[45:15] Speaker 1: and knowing any kind of tendency on the signette side,
[45:18] Speaker 1: whether it's just a Jimmy's and Joe's thing, where Miami
[45:21] Speaker 1: feels like they've got the talent up front and in
[45:23] Speaker 1: the front seven to break down the run without you know,
[45:25] Speaker 1: stretching themselves too thin. I don't know if this is doable,
[45:28] Speaker 1: but I've got that jotted down as a key because
[45:31] Speaker 1: I think if they can stop the run, more to
[45:32] Speaker 1: my earlier point, if Indiana can't run, if it makes
[45:35] Speaker 1: them a little bit more one dimensional, I think we've
[45:37] Speaker 1: got a different type of game on our hands than
[45:39] Speaker 1: we've seen thus far in the playoffs.
[45:41] Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, Indiana has excuse me. Miami has the ability
[45:45] Speaker 3: to make a quarterback, any quarterback, supremely uncomfortable. And we've
[45:51] Speaker 3: seen mistakes from Fernando Mendoza. Not often, but if he
[45:54] Speaker 3: doesn't see a clear path to a skate pressure, he
[45:58] Speaker 3: has thrown and made mistakes. He you know, fumbled against
[46:02] Speaker 3: Oregon early on. That seemed like it may have changed
[46:05] Speaker 3: the rhythm of that game. It very much did not,
[46:07] Speaker 3: but it was a big moment where he fumbles against
[46:10] Speaker 3: the ball back on a big third down. It takes
[46:11] Speaker 3: them out of a drive. I threw a pick six
[46:13] Speaker 3: against Oregon that first time on the road.
[46:15] Speaker 1: This is very much a.
[46:16] Speaker 3: Road spot for Indiana against Miami. By the way sidebar there,
[46:20] Speaker 3: the ticket allotment is not the same, no, for like,
[46:23] Speaker 3: this is not a Miami home game. Obviously, there's you know,
[46:26] Speaker 3: ticket a lotman for season ticket holders for each of
[46:28] Speaker 3: these teams and fans of each of these teams, and
[46:31] Speaker 3: a lot of it's like corporate interests. This is the
[46:33] Speaker 3: college Football Playoff controlling the tickets in this game. So
[46:36] Speaker 3: maybe in Miami fans buy up everything that's available, and
[46:40] Speaker 3: that's certainly you know possible, But there's eight hundred thousand
[46:43] Speaker 3: or whatever living Indiana alumni, right, So I think it's
[46:47] Speaker 3: the biggest alumni base in America. So that's something. But
[46:51] Speaker 3: it's still like Miami has the ability to throw Fernando
[46:56] Speaker 3: Mendoz's brain into chaos if he's scrambling without like an
[47:00] Speaker 3: exit plan. So that's something there that I think you
[47:04] Speaker 3: have to consider it to be a really nice thing
[47:06] Speaker 3: for for Miami.
[47:08] Speaker 2: I have down here.
[47:09] Speaker 3: This year's Miami team is exclusively lost to inferior teams
[47:13] Speaker 3: and played to the moment. They didn't lose any of
[47:16] Speaker 3: their big games. SMU is not a big game. SMU
[47:19] Speaker 3: is a decent team, but that was not a huge
[47:21] Speaker 3: moment for Miami. They just blew the moment, and same
[47:26] Speaker 3: goes for Louisville. So that was those were not huge
[47:29] Speaker 3: games for Miami emotionally or just within the rhythm of
[47:32] Speaker 3: the season. I have the you know, they're playing at
[47:35] Speaker 3: de facto home game with no pressure because they're underdogs, right,
[47:38] Speaker 3: you'd like to be playing from Miami's spot emotionally here
[47:41] Speaker 3: than Indiana. Yes, I think there's a certain amount of
[47:45] Speaker 3: pressure because they're playing in this game at home, but
[47:48] Speaker 3: they're not being looked at as like, well, this is
[47:52] Speaker 3: all just a formality for Miami. Now they're playing at
[47:54] Speaker 3: home and they're favored. I kind of think playing I
[47:57] Speaker 3: think it's more of a formality for Indiana. I think
[48:00] Speaker 3: playing at home ratchets up the pressure from where could
[48:03] Speaker 3: have been.
[48:04] Speaker 1: Yes, the pressure that has been on this program for
[48:06] Speaker 1: the last twenty five years to get back to where
[48:08] Speaker 1: they once were has been suffocating, and to the point
[48:13] Speaker 1: that you made earlier, Crystal Ball has stayed away from
[48:15] Speaker 1: it artfully. So Yeah, they don't want to draw too
[48:18] Speaker 1: close a comparison to any of those old teams because
[48:20] Speaker 1: they know that there's a trap there to constantly be
[48:24] Speaker 1: compared to the past. I kind of think there's more
[48:26] Speaker 1: pressure on Miami, even though they're a dog. But the
[48:30] Speaker 1: fact that they got this one at home, the fact
[48:32] Speaker 1: that they snuck in, the fact like there they've got
[48:36] Speaker 1: this roster, many of whom will be drafted in the
[48:39] Speaker 1: pros either now or later. There's just so much working
[48:44] Speaker 1: for them. It feels like the window is open and
[48:46] Speaker 1: that this is the time to really bring this whole
[48:48] Speaker 1: thing full circle and win again. Indiana's playing with house money.
[48:52] Speaker 1: Nobody thought Indiana would be here. That's true, So for me,
[48:55] Speaker 1: I kind of come at it this from the other
[48:58] Speaker 1: side of it. Two other things that I'll bring up here, Okay.
[49:02] Speaker 2: Please, I have a couple more as well from Miami,
[49:04] Speaker 2: But continue while we're.
[49:05] Speaker 1: Talking about the case from Miami. You mentioned Carson Beck,
[49:08] Speaker 1: but I want to go back to that for a second.
[49:11] Speaker 1: Carson Beck's forty two career starts. Yeah, forty two career starts.
[49:17] Speaker 1: This will be a supreme test of how he handles
[49:20] Speaker 1: a moment like this. We've seen him on big stages before.
[49:22] Speaker 1: He's not a stranger to this. But I think for me,
[49:28] Speaker 1: this is the chess match here because Indiana and their
[49:32] Speaker 1: defensive coordinator Bryant Haynes have been lauded for showing one
[49:37] Speaker 1: thing pre snap and then doing another after the snap. Right.
[49:42] Speaker 1: The Indiana defense I think deserves a ton of credit
[49:45] Speaker 1: for being able to pull this off because it speaks
[49:47] Speaker 1: to the culture that they've built around communication and discipline
[49:51] Speaker 1: and just putting new guys into a system and having
[49:54] Speaker 1: everybody understand it right away. This is not a simple
[49:58] Speaker 1: defense to understand. It's pretty and what they do, even
[50:01] Speaker 1: if it doesn't look like that pre snap all the time.
[50:04] Speaker 1: Carson Beck cannot allow himself to be baited by that,
[50:09] Speaker 1: because there will be moments in this game when they
[50:11] Speaker 1: can't run and they can't throw the quick screen or
[50:14] Speaker 1: the RPO, and his decision making in those moments is
[50:19] Speaker 1: almost certainly something that we're gonna have to talk about
[50:21] Speaker 1: on Monday night on the recap. So while I think
[50:25] Speaker 1: there is a tug of war that I'll speak to
[50:28] Speaker 1: a little bit later on in this episode, for me,
[50:31] Speaker 1: the chess match is Carson Beck diagnosing this defense and
[50:36] Speaker 1: moving the ball down the field, not doing anything stupid.
[50:38] Speaker 1: We haven't seen him do anything stupid thus far in
[50:41] Speaker 1: the playoffs. He's been really good. Even if the stats
[50:44] Speaker 1: aren't great, He's been really good. That needs to continue
[50:47] Speaker 1: for one more game, and I think this will be
[50:49] Speaker 1: the toughest test of that. And to the point then
[50:52] Speaker 1: Miami just can't beat themselves. Can't beat yourself. It's pretty
[50:56] Speaker 1: well established at this point that Miami was a heavily
[50:59] Speaker 1: penalized team. They averaged seven penalties per game, one hundred
[51:02] Speaker 1: and fourth in the nation. The offensive line in particular
[51:06] Speaker 1: one of the most penalized in the country. Yep, and
[51:09] Speaker 1: I spoke about this before. You may recall how it
[51:15] Speaker 1: was driving the fine folks over at State of the
[51:18] Speaker 1: U crazy, because, like we read that site all the
[51:21] Speaker 1: time to get the inside track on what's going on
[51:23] Speaker 1: with Miami football. They're going nuts about it. After the
[51:26] Speaker 1: Louisville lost. I remember reading it. So this is something
[51:30] Speaker 1: that we have certainly been paying attention to throughout the
[51:32] Speaker 1: course of the season for Miami, and they can't do
[51:34] Speaker 1: it again. Indiana is just very good at what they do,
[51:37] Speaker 1: and part of that is waiting for you to make
[51:39] Speaker 1: a mistake. And I know I've said this before, I'll
[51:42] Speaker 1: say it again. Indiana is Scotti Scheffler. That's who they are.
[51:47] Speaker 1: They're not the longest driver, they're not the best putter,
[51:49] Speaker 1: but they're great with their irons and they never make
[51:52] Speaker 1: bogie right. And so it's hard enough to beat any team,
[51:55] Speaker 1: but it's really tough to beat a team that sort
[51:58] Speaker 1: of waits around for you to screw up. See can't
[52:01] Speaker 1: screw up. And whether that's Carson sand it's quickly, whether
[52:04] Speaker 1: it's Carson Beck going up against the defense that shows
[52:07] Speaker 1: a lot and then does something else, whether it's putting
[52:09] Speaker 1: the ball on the ground. We saw mal chay TONI
[52:11] Speaker 1: do that a little bit whatever it is penalties. You
[52:15] Speaker 1: cannot beat yourself against a team like Indiana, otherwise going
[52:18] Speaker 1: to come back to bite. Yet. So for me, the
[52:20] Speaker 1: four keys that I jotted down a don't beat yourself
[52:23] Speaker 1: be the Carson Beck chess match, see stopping the run
[52:26] Speaker 1: without over committing, and then going back to what I
[52:29] Speaker 1: said at the very top, play big dumb Mario crystal
[52:32] Speaker 1: ball football. Those are my four keys from Miami.
[52:35] Speaker 2: I think they're down their tight end right.
[52:36] Speaker 3: Elijah Lofton got hurt, which I mean not the biggest
[52:40] Speaker 3: pass catcher, but has made some big catches for Miami
[52:42] Speaker 3: this year. The other thing on the Carson back point
[52:45] Speaker 3: is yes, there is a lot of blame with the
[52:48] Speaker 3: passing game and mistakes in their losses to SMU and Louisville.
[52:53] Speaker 3: He's been really clean in terms of turnovers since that
[52:56] Speaker 3: SMU game. He had tipped pass in the red zone
[52:59] Speaker 3: against the Old Man, which yes, is partially on him.
[53:01] Speaker 3: He threw into a hand, which is not advisable in
[53:06] Speaker 3: my opinion. They also committed i want to say, zero
[53:09] Speaker 3: penalties against Ohio State as well. So Miami has it
[53:13] Speaker 3: in them to play extremely clean. We'll see, and you know,
[53:16] Speaker 3: Obviously it's dependent on how the referees are feeling, and
[53:19] Speaker 3: you know what the rhythm of the game is. But
[53:21] Speaker 3: they have it in them to play very clean, both
[53:24] Speaker 3: from a passing perspective and a penalty perspective. So agree,
[53:26] Speaker 3: I think I think those are all right. I have
[53:29] Speaker 3: down here also as well. The best of Miami is
[53:33] Speaker 3: essentially asked kicking to wear teams down. And this is
[53:36] Speaker 3: game sixteen for Indiana. At some point, he says, they
[53:42] Speaker 3: can't keep getting away with this. At some point, a
[53:44] Speaker 3: linebacker has to get tired mentally or physically. At some point,
[53:47] Speaker 3: a corner has to. At some point, a left tackle
[53:49] Speaker 3: has to. And Miami is the type of team if
[53:53] Speaker 3: they identify somebody who is weary, somebody who appears to
[53:57] Speaker 3: be sluggish mentally or physically, that they can pound that
[54:00] Speaker 3: dude into the ground phrasing. So there is that that
[54:06] Speaker 3: Miami is one of the last teams, if not the
[54:09] Speaker 3: last team, you want to face if you are not
[54:11] Speaker 3: feeling like your full self after fifteen games. No, that's
[54:17] Speaker 3: my case for Miami. There's a lot of players that
[54:18] Speaker 3: are gonna be difference makers that they've won in different ways.
[54:22] Speaker 3: They were able to survive, like the both starting corners
[54:25] Speaker 3: out for the second half of that game, and Oj
[54:26] Speaker 3: Frederick and Xavier Lucas, who will not be playing in
[54:29] Speaker 3: the first half of this game after the targeting call
[54:32] Speaker 3: against Ole miss right that they're able to weather these things.
[54:35] Speaker 3: They're able to count on youth. You know that, there's
[54:37] Speaker 3: just different things they've turned to to sort of enhance
[54:41] Speaker 3: their ability to win.
[54:44] Speaker 1: My case for Indiana revolves around three keys in particular. Okay,
[54:52] Speaker 1: the very first one is they need to protect Fernando Mendozo. Yep,
[54:58] Speaker 1: not a great mystery, not a great secret. Gotta protect him.
[55:02] Speaker 1: Mendoza has been the highest graded quarterback of this year
[55:05] Speaker 1: under pressure, and on top of that, he is extremely
[55:09] Speaker 1: difficult to confuse. That doesn't mean Miami shouldn't try Dan, right, Yeah.
[55:15] Speaker 1: I feel like we get down the rabbit hole of
[55:17] Speaker 1: these conversations all too often and it's like, well, you
[55:19] Speaker 1: can't confuse them, so now what are they gonna do? Well,
[55:22] Speaker 1: they're gonna try. Corey Heathman's gonna try because he has
[55:25] Speaker 1: elite edge rushers that are gonna test that Indiana line.
[55:29] Speaker 1: I've also discussed how Indiana's line is equally as difficult
[55:33] Speaker 1: to confuse, but again that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
[55:37] Speaker 1: And I think Corey Heatherman is going to dial up
[55:39] Speaker 1: some exotic blitzes, some complex pressure schemes to try and
[55:44] Speaker 1: figure out a way to get to Mendoza. Part of
[55:47] Speaker 1: it will be the stunts and the twist that we
[55:48] Speaker 1: have seen from them all year, But I think the
[55:51] Speaker 1: other part of it is just proving that Indiana can
[55:53] Speaker 1: block them one on one, because they gotta like the
[55:56] Speaker 1: Jimmies and Joe's again that they have up front. Definitely,
[56:00] Speaker 1: So let's see what Indiana could do against Reuben Bain Junior.
[56:03] Speaker 1: Let's see what they can do against a key Mesador.
[56:05] Speaker 1: Let's put those guys in different positions. We've seen them
[56:08] Speaker 1: do that throughout the course of the season. In this playoff.
[56:11] Speaker 1: Move those guys around, put them next to each other,
[56:14] Speaker 1: have them loop around. Let's see what these guys can
[56:17] Speaker 1: do trying to block Miami. And I'm speaking about the
[56:21] Speaker 1: Indiana line. They got to give them time. This, to me,
[56:26] Speaker 1: I think is the big tug of war in this game.
[56:29] Speaker 1: Indiana's line has passed every test so far this season.
[56:33] Speaker 1: There's no reason to think that they can't handle Miami
[56:35] Speaker 1: over the course of sixty minutes. But it would also
[56:38] Speaker 1: be malpracticed to assume that it's no big deal that
[56:42] Speaker 1: ah asually just handwave it. They've handled everybody, they can
[56:44] Speaker 1: handle Miami. This will be a real challenge for them,
[56:48] Speaker 1: and so I think there are some things that Indiana
[56:51] Speaker 1: can learn from how Old miss handled the Miami front.
[56:56] Speaker 1: The pass rush was way less of a factor in
[56:59] Speaker 1: that game than I think we expected. But I think
[57:02] Speaker 1: it goes without saying I hope it goes without saying that.
[57:06] Speaker 1: Even though the line has been good and Fernando Mendoz
[57:08] Speaker 1: has been great against pressure, this is still a different
[57:11] Speaker 1: kind of puzzle to solve for that Indiana front. And
[57:15] Speaker 1: they got to protect Fernando. They got to protect protect him.
[57:19] Speaker 1: They got to get enough of a push up front
[57:21] Speaker 1: to establish something of a ground game, so they have
[57:23] Speaker 1: the necessary balance here against this defense. Point Number one
[57:26] Speaker 1: for me, Okay, keep going. Point number two third downs.
[57:36] Speaker 1: Over the last two games, Miami's been about fifty five
[57:40] Speaker 1: percent or so on third downs, a little bit under
[57:43] Speaker 1: that last game, they were what eleven of nineteen. Yeah,
[57:47] Speaker 1: it's great, it's a great number. I think Miami is
[57:50] Speaker 1: going to play slow and methodical, and as I mentioned earlier,
[57:55] Speaker 1: big dumb Mario ball and I know it's Mario, but
[58:00] Speaker 1: the Woods we call it Mario. Yeah.
[58:01] Speaker 3: Tyl live's in a very specific sliver of America that
[58:04] Speaker 3: pronounces everything just slightly off.
[58:06] Speaker 1: And says HOGI water and in some cases water yeah.
[58:12] Speaker 1: Do you know people who say use I do yeah yousse?
[58:16] Speaker 1: To be clear, yeah, are you related to any of
[58:19] Speaker 1: these people? I am not, thankfully.
[58:20] Speaker 2: Okay, that's good.
[58:22] Speaker 1: I think the only way Miami can play that style
[58:26] Speaker 1: of football is if they're converting on third downs. So
[58:30] Speaker 1: on the Indiana side third down defense, it's not just
[58:34] Speaker 1: on third down, it also extends to first and second
[58:37] Speaker 1: down as well. Can you stop Miami from getting into
[58:40] Speaker 1: third and manageable? Can you create more third and eights
[58:43] Speaker 1: that type of thing. Miami, to their credit, has been
[58:46] Speaker 1: averaging one hundred and seventy three yards on the ground
[58:49] Speaker 1: thus far through the playoffs. They have leaned on their
[58:52] Speaker 1: offensive line to get that push. It is a matchup
[58:56] Speaker 1: again to watch in the trenches. We can talk about
[58:59] Speaker 1: the Indiana line and how it's going to handle the
[59:02] Speaker 1: Miami front. I'm most curious, I think how this matchup
[59:07] Speaker 1: goes down, and that is can the Indiana defensive line
[59:13] Speaker 1: make enough hay against that Miami front to get these
[59:17] Speaker 1: into third and longer situations? So it's not just a
[59:20] Speaker 1: gimme for Miami stop them on third downs and the
[59:24] Speaker 1: big dumb Mario crystal ball football point two right, and
[59:30] Speaker 1: my third point is very specific to something we have
[59:33] Speaker 1: seen Miami do over the last couple games. And I
[59:37] Speaker 1: think this is going out to the Indiana defense, but
[59:40] Speaker 1: it's a world dan where all the rational people are
[59:43] Speaker 1: trying to get away from their screens, trying to watch
[59:46] Speaker 1: less of their screens. I think the Miami offense has
[59:50] Speaker 1: proven to us that the Indiana defense needs to watch
[59:55] Speaker 1: all of the screens because Miami wants to get the
[59:59] Speaker 1: ball to guys life like malachay TONI in space, and
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: we have seen them have great success doing it this
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: year with screens with quick RPOs, stuff like that. He's shifty,
[1:00:09] Speaker 1: he'll make you pay. He made all misspay. So if
[1:00:12] Speaker 1: you're not fundamentally sound, if you can't tackle him in
[1:00:16] Speaker 1: open space, that's a problem. If he's able to make
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: Indiana miss, that affects the whole third down defense thing too, right,
[1:00:22] Speaker 1: It has further reaching ramifications than just one thing. So
[1:00:29] Speaker 1: if Miami is getting him the ball in space, if
[1:00:31] Speaker 1: he's making people miss, if they're getting chunk plays, that
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: is a problem. That is a real issue that Indiana
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: needs to do something about. They're a zone heavy team, Indiana,
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: Miami's going to try to overload one side of the zone.
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: They're going to play a numbers game. They're going to
[1:00:46] Speaker 1: try and get guys the ball in space. My hunch
[1:00:49] Speaker 1: is that if you're Shannon Dawson, you like Malachay Tony's
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: chances of making a guy miss, Indiana cannot let that happen,
[1:00:56] Speaker 1: maybe once or twice, but consistently. You got to be
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: able to get this guy on the ground. Otherwise that
[1:01:02] Speaker 1: screen game is something they're going to use to pick
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: them to death.
[1:01:06] Speaker 2: Yep.
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: So for me, the three keys to victory, protect Fernando,
[1:01:12] Speaker 1: third down, defense, watch the screen, I eat al Kai
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: Toni on the screen.
[1:01:19] Speaker 3: By the way, when an instructive game, I think just
[1:01:22] Speaker 3: in terms of like what can get to Indiana is less.
[1:01:25] Speaker 3: The Oregon game that was on the road, and just
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: earlier on in the season, the Penn State game was interesting.
[1:01:31] Speaker 3: It was Penn State was really good on third down
[1:01:34] Speaker 3: all things considered, they were ran a backup quarterback and
[1:01:36] Speaker 3: interim everything like that, and couldn't really run.
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: They couldn't run. But what's really interesting about that if
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: you look at how Indiana played against Penn State, and
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: I don't know if it was a respect thing. I
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: don't know, if it's like an Ethan grunka Meyer thing.
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: I really don't know what they were thinking defensively, But
[1:01:53] Speaker 1: compared to all the other games that we have seen
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: from the Indiana defense this year, they barely blitz than
[1:02:00] Speaker 1: that one. Right, they dialed up almost no pressure. The
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: number that comes to mind is twenty percent of the time,
[1:02:06] Speaker 1: and that number has been considerably higher against nearly every
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: other opponent. So I don't know if it was the
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: situational side of the game that caused them to take
[1:02:15] Speaker 1: a little bit of a left turn, But it does
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: seem as if, for whatever reason, they broke tendency in
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: that game in State College and they damn your lost
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: if not for an incredible catch by Omar Cooper Junior.
[1:02:26] Speaker 1: I have less in terms of bullet points for the
[1:02:29] Speaker 1: case for Indiana.
[1:02:31] Speaker 2: One.
[1:02:31] Speaker 3: They're impervious to mistakes. That's a really good case for
[1:02:34] Speaker 3: an that's it. Let's close the show out right.
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: Two.
[1:02:38] Speaker 3: They just rocked Oregon in Alabama. They didn't beat them,
[1:02:41] Speaker 3: they didn't comfortably win those games.
[1:02:43] Speaker 2: They rocked them.
[1:02:44] Speaker 3: Okay, those are two really good teams, at least at
[1:02:47] Speaker 3: their best, and in every important metric regard they're superior.
[1:02:55] Speaker 3: They do every little, medium and big thing better more
[1:02:59] Speaker 3: consist instantly over time. When you weigh a sample size,
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: whether it's third down, whether it's red zone, whether it's
[1:03:07] Speaker 3: first down, whether it's passing downs, whether it's rushing the passer.
[1:03:12] Speaker 3: I don't have the exact pass rushing numbers in front
[1:03:14] Speaker 3: of me, but if they're not superior, they're nearly identical.
[1:03:18] Speaker 3: There is no statistical point in this game is played
[1:03:21] Speaker 3: on the field that is not played on paper. Also
[1:03:24] Speaker 3: check out Game on Paper. They do a great job
[1:03:26] Speaker 3: with advanced college. Will just launch some.
[1:03:28] Speaker 1: New features too, by the way, yes, yeah, go and
[1:03:30] Speaker 1: check out Game on Paper dot Com. A lot of
[1:03:33] Speaker 1: interesting ways to look at the sport. Oh yeah, all right.
[1:03:36] Speaker 3: In terms of production in the whole Kurt Signetti product
[1:03:39] Speaker 3: production over what projection or potential or whatever Indiana produces.
[1:03:44] Speaker 3: They get the job done more often on more downs
[1:03:47] Speaker 3: and more situations, on more stages in a more difficult
[1:03:51] Speaker 3: conference this season than Miami was able to do so,
[1:03:54] Speaker 3: just in terms of the path to get here, it's
[1:03:57] Speaker 3: paved with more success more often when you look at
[1:04:01] Speaker 3: Indiana's road, and that to me is meaningful, and so
[1:04:07] Speaker 3: at a certain point you have to pick a team,
[1:04:10] Speaker 3: and I've sort of been doubting. I mean, I haven't
[1:04:12] Speaker 3: been doubting Indian. Indiana has been excellent all season long.
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: I guess I doubted them maybe a little bit heading
[1:04:17] Speaker 3: into the Illinois game.
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: Early on. I saw them winning that game and covering,
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: but you probably did. I don't think I did. I
[1:04:26] Speaker 1: know you didn't. I didn't know. I didn't I didn't.
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: I mean, I've been picking them since then.
[1:04:30] Speaker 3: But they're a murder machine. They are everything you want
[1:04:35] Speaker 3: a national champion to look like. And maybe I'm overestimating
[1:04:41] Speaker 3: them after Oregon and you know, thinking Oregon had a
[1:04:44] Speaker 3: shot in.
[1:04:44] Speaker 2: That game, but.
[1:04:47] Speaker 1: I don't know. They just have the look of a
[1:04:50] Speaker 1: team who can't lose this moment. I don't know.
[1:04:55] Speaker 3: I mean, the case is not complicated. They're they're better coached,
[1:04:59] Speaker 3: they ex acute better, they have a better quarterback, and
[1:05:02] Speaker 3: they have more ways to win more often.
[1:05:06] Speaker 1: What's your final score prediction?
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: My final score in this one is.
[1:05:12] Speaker 3: Twenty eight to seventeen Indiana. Okay, I have them winning
[1:05:17] Speaker 3: by eleven. I have it being back and forth somewhat.
[1:05:20] Speaker 3: I do have some kind of killer Miami mistake in
[1:05:23] Speaker 3: this one, and the rhythm not being a blowout, not
[1:05:28] Speaker 3: being last second.
[1:05:30] Speaker 2: I have a reasonably comfortable Indiana win here.
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: I also have Indiana by eleven. Again, we don't who
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: to thunk. We don't run these past one another before
[1:05:42] Speaker 1: we go live.
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: But quick math on your part, by the way.
[1:05:45] Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah, not great at math. I've got it
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: thirty one to twenty Indiana, so a little bit higher scoring.
[1:05:52] Speaker 1: I guess it would hit the over there's just too
[1:05:56] Speaker 1: much to like, you know, they're so buttoned up. This
[1:06:00] Speaker 1: isn't to say they won't make mistakes or can't make mistakes,
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: but Indiana is definitely less mistake prone. That's the understatement
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: of the century as compared to Miami. Not that Miami
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: is super mistake prone in terms of the backbreaking stuff,
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: but it's a lot of the little stuff, a lot
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: of the little stuff with penalties, some of the play calling,
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: some of the decisions. It just doesn't feel like that's
[1:06:24] Speaker 1: as much of a risk on the Indiana side. So
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: Indiana favored by eight and a half again at time
[1:06:28] Speaker 1: of recording. I guess we're both going oh with the Hoosiers. Yeah,
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: thirty one twenty is my final.
[1:06:36] Speaker 3: Twenty eight to seventeen. I think low scoring first quarter,
[1:06:40] Speaker 3: if any scoring, like a three to nothing first quarter,
[1:06:42] Speaker 3: as teams get a feel for the game.
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:06:45] Speaker 3: But yeah, ultimately, I think you know, one of the
[1:06:48] Speaker 3: things that I guess we didn't fully mention, but you
[1:06:50] Speaker 3: were talking about run defense in this one. Iowa was
[1:06:54] Speaker 3: able to run some on Indiana this year. Oregon was
[1:06:57] Speaker 3: able to run some in that first match up Ohio State,
[1:07:01] Speaker 3: I want to say, was able to run a little bit.
[1:07:04] Speaker 3: I know that was, you know, a big Jeremiah Smith
[1:07:06] Speaker 3: game against Indiana. But if you are going to you know,
[1:07:11] Speaker 3: in this again something you've mentioned, if you are going
[1:07:14] Speaker 3: to dictate a little bit in this game against Indiana,
[1:07:17] Speaker 3: it seems like it has to be on the ground.
[1:07:20] Speaker 3: It just does not seem like we're gonna walk away
[1:07:22] Speaker 3: from this game. We're like, Wow, I was a Carson
[1:07:23] Speaker 3: back game.
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: Who to thunk. So that's that's a place where Miami
[1:07:30] Speaker 1: can make some hay.
[1:07:30] Speaker 2: But uh yeah, I have you know.
[1:07:35] Speaker 3: Ultimately it's a a combination of quarterback and lines, defense
[1:07:39] Speaker 3: and coach. I think Indiana is just they measure up
[1:07:42] Speaker 3: a little bit better.
[1:07:44] Speaker 1: I tend to agree. I'd love to hear from Arvard
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: ballerhood on this one. As you know, you can't go
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: out to Verballers dot com to help support the team.
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: You can, of course look us up on any of
[1:07:56] Speaker 1: our social platforms. We can always email sOliver Well at
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: gmail dot com and let us know your thoughts. For
[1:08:02] Speaker 1: what it's worth. I did post a pull out on
[1:08:05] Speaker 1: our solid Verbal YouTube channel asking people which side of
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: the bet they would take Indiana minus seven and a
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: half at the time this was a few days ago,
[1:08:17] Speaker 1: or Miami plus seven and a half seventy seven percent
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: of the respondents and we got a good number of
[1:08:23] Speaker 1: people who responded over eighteen hundred seventy seven percent when
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: Indiana minus the number.
[1:08:30] Speaker 3: What is what are the like the betting numbers? I
[1:08:31] Speaker 3: don't know if you pulled those, like where is the
[1:08:34] Speaker 3: where are the majority of the bets? Where's the majority
[1:08:36] Speaker 3: of the money? I don't know if you have that
[1:08:38] Speaker 3: on any of those wagering sites.
[1:08:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, I can pull it up real quick. My hunch
[1:08:43] Speaker 1: is that there is a lot of steam on Indiana.
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: Because the opening number was seven and a half in
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: favor of the Hoosiers. The fact that that has now
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: gone up a little bit tells me that we're probably
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: seeing a little bit of a move towards, you know,
[1:08:58] Speaker 1: the Indiana Hoosiers. Right now, eighty nine percent of the
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: money and eighty percent of the bets are on Indiana.
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: So if you are of the mind that you want
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: to fade the public, and it's not always the worst strategy,
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: Miami plus eight and a half could be interesting. Maybe
[1:09:14] Speaker 1: that number jumps up a little bit to nine. I
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: think in some places it's already at nine. If betting is.
[1:09:19] Speaker 3: Your thing, did you weigh the fact that Miami has
[1:09:22] Speaker 3: its own self sustaining energy source in Michael Irvin on
[1:09:25] Speaker 3: their sideline.
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: Well, it's funny you should mention that because one of
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: the other questions that I jotted down here that I
[1:09:30] Speaker 1: was going to ask as a bit of a gag
[1:09:32] Speaker 1: to close out the show. Yeah, maybe this is my moment.
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: But on our bol Bingo card again, thirty props. It's
[1:09:38] Speaker 1: free to play. All you gotta do is pick six.
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: I interject couple of my own in there, of course,
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: to keep things interesting, and one that I added was
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: Michael Irvin will be flagged for some kind of sideline warning. WHOA.
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: I like that, So we can't rule it out, and
[1:09:55] Speaker 1: I don't think it'll happen, but seeing him sort of
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: convulse on the side sidelines throughout the course of this
[1:10:01] Speaker 1: playoff run, there's at least a chance that Michael Irvin
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: could somehow be involved in a sideline fracas and be
[1:10:08] Speaker 1: flagged for a sideline violation.
[1:10:10] Speaker 2: Right, Okay, I like that.
[1:10:15] Speaker 1: And you know, at time of recording, I don't believe
[1:10:18] Speaker 1: ESPN has released yet what their full broadcast strategy is
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: going to be, so obviously they're going to cover the game.
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: It would be Fouler and Herbie on the call, but
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: typically they have a bunch of alt casts. So I
[1:10:30] Speaker 1: think we saw they're going to be doing a coaches
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: room again, saw that.
[1:10:33] Speaker 2: Who have they announced who I haven't seen.
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: Who's going to be in it. They'll probably do the
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: sideline thing with the McAfee show like they've been doing
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: for the other games Skycast, they'll have the command center
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: of the one where they've got all the stats up
[1:10:45] Speaker 1: on ESPN News or something. That's my assumption. I haven't
[1:10:49] Speaker 1: seen official announcements on that yet, but my hunch is
[1:10:52] Speaker 1: that they're going to have a whole host of those.
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: I stand by what I said a couple of weeks ago.
[1:10:56] Speaker 1: We need the Irvin cast. We need the Irvin casts.
[1:10:59] Speaker 1: Just show them, show him, put him on a split
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: screen with what's going on in the game. That would
[1:11:05] Speaker 1: be high entertainment. You can you stream live from like
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: the Meta glasses, the Facebook.
[1:11:10] Speaker 2: It's gonna be wear those.
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: That'd be perfect, absolutely perfect.
[1:11:15] Speaker 2: That'd be great.
[1:11:16] Speaker 1: You saw that the halftime show is Seventh Floor Crew reuniting. No,
[1:11:20] Speaker 1: it's not the halftime show. I did look it up.
[1:11:22] Speaker 1: It's the marching bands.
[1:11:24] Speaker 2: They do that, but oh, that's it.
[1:11:25] Speaker 1: Pitbull is going to be performing in the lead up
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: to the game, Mister three h five, Well obviously obviously
[1:11:31] Speaker 1: got to perform.
[1:11:33] Speaker 3: Do you think he is going to to like bring
[1:11:35] Speaker 3: back the Dr Pepper, Like, is that going to be
[1:11:37] Speaker 3: part of his set list?
[1:11:39] Speaker 1: I wouldn't hate it, you know, I wouldn't hate it.
[1:11:41] Speaker 1: I wouldn't hate that. I have a real good time.
[1:11:46] Speaker 2: That's that song, right, that's the Dodtor Pepper song. It's
[1:11:48] Speaker 2: been so long.
[1:11:49] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know if I have any other
[1:11:52] Speaker 3: like throwaway. There's gonna be a lot of cutaways to
[1:11:56] Speaker 3: former Miami players on the sideline. We'll probably to get
[1:12:00] Speaker 3: at least one shot of Mark Cuban of cubes in
[1:12:03] Speaker 3: a suite in this one. Are there other Indiana luminaries
[1:12:07] Speaker 3: Joe are going to.
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: I don't have Joe Buckle be there, but Joe bucksa
[1:12:13] Speaker 1: Indiana luminary.
[1:12:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. There's what's his name?
[1:12:18] Speaker 3: Has the like has his own like a suite, right,
[1:12:21] Speaker 3: so he can smoke at the Indiana Games. John Mellencamp,
[1:12:26] Speaker 3: John Mellencamp. But you know about this, right, he has
[1:12:27] Speaker 3: his own suite on the roof so he can smoke
[1:12:30] Speaker 3: during Indiana games. So you got John Mellencamp. I'm trying
[1:12:33] Speaker 3: to think of other Indiana or Indiana sports luminaries that
[1:12:37] Speaker 3: would be there. I don't know, but yeah, we'll have
[1:12:42] Speaker 3: we'll have a good amount of Miami cutaways the other
[1:12:45] Speaker 3: By the way, here's the other thing.
[1:12:46] Speaker 2: I probably should have mentioned this earlier.
[1:12:49] Speaker 3: Kind of crazy that this is the retirement year of
[1:12:52] Speaker 3: former Indiana head coach Lee Corso from college football and
[1:12:55] Speaker 3: Indiana's in the championship.
[1:12:56] Speaker 1: Is it is a little weird, isn't it.
[1:12:58] Speaker 2: He's going to be in in Indiana sweater.
[1:13:00] Speaker 1: There has to be.
[1:13:02] Speaker 3: There's going to be like in our old friends. Oh yeah,
[1:13:05] Speaker 3: the legendary leak course, so Sunshine, it would be cool
[1:13:08] Speaker 3: if they brought him back as the guest picker.
[1:13:11] Speaker 1: That would be. That would be incredible. That would be
[1:13:13] Speaker 1: pretty cool. I don't hope they got yeah, but that
[1:13:16] Speaker 1: would be that would be pretty awesome. Yeah. No, I'm
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: excited to see luminary cutaways.
[1:13:22] Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: Why don't we leave it there, we're both on Indiana.
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: Let us know who you are picking anywhere you can email,
[1:13:30] Speaker 1: social media, uh comments as you're watching this video or
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: listening to this out on Spotify or any of the
[1:13:37] Speaker 1: apps that allow it. We'd love to hear from you. Yes,
[1:13:40] Speaker 1: let us know where we're right, let us know where
[1:13:42] Speaker 1: we're wrong.
[1:13:43] Speaker 3: We've got they always do tie. They always let us
[1:13:45] Speaker 3: know where we need no prompting.
[1:13:47] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're always letting us know where we're right and wrong,
[1:13:50] Speaker 1: especially the Indiana people this year, especially the Indiana people
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: this year.
[1:13:54] Speaker 3: They're they're shooting out of the ground, Tye, you never
[1:13:57] Speaker 3: saw them before. You can always see like those eight
[1:14:00] Speaker 3: year locusts that just sort of emerge. Yes, yes, yeah,
[1:14:04] Speaker 3: what are they? The what's it called, Taye? Look at
[1:14:09] Speaker 3: the Cicada's right, The sig cadas is what I called
[1:14:12] Speaker 3: them during the season. But I don't know if you've
[1:14:14] Speaker 3: ever seen the clip of who's the guy that did
[1:14:16] Speaker 3: gangdam style him? Like shooting out of the floor. They
[1:14:20] Speaker 3: just shoot out of nowhere. These Indiana fans all honestly
[1:14:26] Speaker 3: thrilled for him. Think about the life of like a
[1:14:29] Speaker 3: true blue Indiana football fan. Like if you go back
[1:14:32] Speaker 3: and look at like any Indiana football preview that we've done,
[1:14:36] Speaker 3: that anybody's done, there's always like one guy.
[1:14:38] Speaker 1: Be like, oh no, if we could break right away,
[1:14:39] Speaker 1: we go four to eight, and.
[1:14:42] Speaker 3: I just, I don't know, it's pretty crazy and I'm
[1:14:44] Speaker 3: pretty happy for everybody involved in this one.
[1:14:46] Speaker 1: Fan wise, Indiana against Miami got one big one left.

[1:15:05] Speaker 1: we even discussed that? I don't think we discussed it.
[1:15:08] Speaker 1: I'd be open to it.
[1:15:08] Speaker 2: If you want to, I'm open to it. Sure.
