In this episode, we return to the board room for Sark Tank 3.0, our annual exercise in college football emotional investing. Ty brings the pitches, while Dan and special guest Andy Staples play the investors, and decide which 2026 storylines are worth buying and selling. On the board: Brendan Sorsby's prospects at Texas Tech, the SEC's return to glory, the return of Gary Patterson, and a new Group of Six team crashing the playoff party. Plus, the Sarks debate whether anyone other than Miami is worth backing in the ACC, whether Notre Dame is being set up as the sport’s most polished strength-of-schedule mirage, and which long-shot ideas still deserve emotional capital before the season begins. ## Transcript

[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal verbal for me.
[0:18] Speaker 2: Dan ruben Steeve, welcome back to the show, my great
[0:22] Speaker 2: and good friend. You know, the idea for today's concept
[0:27] Speaker 2: originally came about in the Year of Our Lord twenty
[0:31] Speaker 2: twenty two, when we were doing a Big ten preview
[0:35] Speaker 2: and you did a Paul christ impression.
[0:37] Speaker 1: Do you remember this in sort of like an e
[0:39] Speaker 1: your voice.
[0:40] Speaker 3: Right, because like, what is what is Paul Chris pitch for?
[0:44] Speaker 3: Like a different version of Wisconsin this year, like a
[0:47] Speaker 3: more explosive offense, And it was I honestly, I could
[0:51] Speaker 3: not be more like any more in the dark about
[0:55] Speaker 3: what Paul Chris sounds like for an impression, But it
[0:58] Speaker 3: was something like, Hey.
[1:00] Speaker 4: Sarks, it's me Paul. I know our offense hasn't been
[1:05] Speaker 4: super exciting, but I want to pitch you. And I
[1:07] Speaker 4: don't remember who I was pitching that was going to
[1:11] Speaker 4: be a difference maker for Wisconsin, but I do remember saying, Hey, Sharks.
[1:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, at the time it was Sharks, And then we
[1:17] Speaker 2: had some time marinate over it and it became Sarks.
[1:21] Speaker 2: I wrote it down, we took it from there. We
[1:24] Speaker 2: did this episode for the first time three or four
[1:26] Speaker 2: years ago. I want to say we brought it back
[1:28] Speaker 2: last year. This is the third time now over our
[1:32] Speaker 2: run of as a show that we are doing this
[1:35] Speaker 2: and we're bringing in a guest shark, a guest Sark.
[1:39] Speaker 2: I guess in this case, as we did last year,
[1:41] Speaker 2: as we did the year prior. Andy Staples from On three,
[1:45] Speaker 2: from Andy and Ari from the College Football Inquire, dudes
[1:48] Speaker 2: all over the place. I see he's dressed up for
[1:50] Speaker 2: the cas for the occasion, as Dan and I have
[1:52] Speaker 2: as well. Andy, it is a pleasure to have someone
[1:56] Speaker 2: of your caliber here in the conference room with us today.
[2:00] Speaker 5: Well, well, thank you.
[2:01] Speaker 6: I I went back and watched from two years ago.
[2:03] Speaker 6: I actually wore a tie, which proved I had not
[2:06] Speaker 6: been watching a lot of actual Shark Tank. My kids
[2:09] Speaker 6: got into it later and we probably burned through every episode,
[2:12] Speaker 6: so I know now it's got to be blazer, no tie.
[2:15] Speaker 5: Like, that's right, that's the dress code.
[2:17] Speaker 3: I'm taking on the role of what one of the
[2:21] Speaker 3: cool sarks. Sarks in this case always has the like,
[2:25] Speaker 3: I'm not a regular shark, I'm a cool shark, right.
[2:28] Speaker 3: I wear interesting boots and I'm wearing.
[2:32] Speaker 1: My Bucky's shirt underneath a blazer in honor, feels German Freddy.
[2:37] Speaker 3: Yes, in honor of German Freddy and all of the
[2:39] Speaker 3: World Cup tourists, discovering all that this great land has
[2:42] Speaker 3: to offer as they travel and get ready to watch
[2:45] Speaker 3: their version of.
[2:46] Speaker 1: Football there it is.
[2:48] Speaker 2: Well, the episode title, if you have downloaded, if you
[2:51] Speaker 2: are listening now, is Sark Tank. What is Sark Tank? Well,
[2:56] Speaker 2: the premise here is very simple. I am going to
[2:59] Speaker 2: be your designated pitch man throughout the course of this episode.
[3:04] Speaker 2: I am bringing ideas to both of our illustrious Sarks
[3:08] Speaker 2: here in hopes of securing their emotional investment for the
[3:12] Speaker 2: coming season. Andy Dan, they are the precious Sarks in
[3:18] Speaker 2: this episode. However, this is a college football show instead
[3:22] Speaker 2: of the actual Shark Tank, which is why if anyone's
[3:25] Speaker 2: wondering what, we're calling you Sarks instead, so you are
[3:28] Speaker 2: free to invest as much or as little as you
[3:30] Speaker 2: see fit. You can obviously say you're out. I mean
[3:34] Speaker 2: you've seen the show.
[3:35] Speaker 6: Are you going to be disturbingly chipper as you give
[3:38] Speaker 6: your pitch? Because I feel like that is a requirement.
[3:41] Speaker 1: We'll see what we can muster up.
[3:42] Speaker 6: Okay, what they're going for is Wheel of Fortune, contestant
[3:45] Speaker 6: on speed.
[3:46] Speaker 3: You're not just hosting and presenting ty, you are selling
[3:49] Speaker 3: to us. So, for example, if you are selling to
[3:52] Speaker 3: us that arch Manning we're to win the heisman, you
[3:54] Speaker 3: have to sell. You have to say, like the deal
[3:58] Speaker 3: I have for you, I'm I'm talking about a Manning.
[4:01] Speaker 3: I'm talking about a high flying offense. I'm talking about
[4:04] Speaker 3: a high you know, intensity conference where he's gonna get
[4:08] Speaker 3: a ton of exposure. Right, you have to be able
[4:10] Speaker 3: to like convince Sarks of my and and Andy's esteem
[4:15] Speaker 3: that we should be emotionally investing.
[4:17] Speaker 2: Well, you can grade me afterwards and let me know
[4:20] Speaker 2: how I do. But I feel I want the pep. Yeah,
[4:23] Speaker 2: Andy's right. The only other thing that I'll offer as
[4:26] Speaker 2: a means of a disclaimer, this is obviously intended as parody.
[4:30] Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys have seen the jackets
[4:32] Speaker 2: that Kevin O'Leary's wearing around or the thirty million dollar
[4:35] Speaker 2: necklace he wore to one of the awards shows. We
[4:37] Speaker 2: don't want to deal with that legal team, So this
[4:38] Speaker 2: is parody. Guys, all right, nobody take this seriously. Campbell
[4:41] Speaker 2: versus akef read the case if you made it this
[4:45] Speaker 2: far follow or subscribe. We'd love to have you the
[4:48] Speaker 2: rest of the way, starting up our previews next month.
[4:52] Speaker 1: Are you guys ready? Ready? All right, let's do it.
[4:56] Speaker 7: Next up an entrepreneur betting big on a man magical season.
[5:09] Speaker 2: Hey Sarks, I'm here today seeking your emotional investment in
[5:13] Speaker 2: one Brendan sores By.
[5:19] Speaker 3: It's a good place to start, it, won't Bretton Soarsby.
[5:22] Speaker 1: I didn't even make it through the first sentence.
[5:24] Speaker 6: Are you insinuating that we should bet on Brendan Soorsby.
[5:30] Speaker 2: I'm here seeking your emotional investment in Brendan Soresby leading
[5:34] Speaker 2: Texas Tech to a Big twelve title and at least
[5:37] Speaker 2: one win in the College Football Playoff. Now, I know
[5:41] Speaker 2: what you're both thinking. Why invest in a controversy? Why
[5:45] Speaker 2: would I want to do that? My answer, guys, this
[5:48] Speaker 2: is college football? Why stop now? As you both know,
[5:51] Speaker 2: Soresby one is in junction earlier this week. As of now,
[5:55] Speaker 2: sounds like he's gonna play after a brief suspension. Yes,
[5:59] Speaker 2: there is ane in the works by the NCAA, but
[6:01] Speaker 2: they don't win in court. This is your chance to
[6:04] Speaker 2: get in early and get on board with Brendan Sorosby,
[6:07] Speaker 2: who gives Tech the exact thing it needs to make
[6:10] Speaker 2: a run, which is an upgrade at quarterback Sarks. Now
[6:14] Speaker 2: is not the time for pearl clutching. Now's the time
[6:17] Speaker 2: to throw those emotional tortillas behind the next great Red
[6:22] Speaker 2: Raider and a season that makes history.
[6:25] Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your time. So this is
[6:28] Speaker 1: this is emotional capital. Just to be clear in the
[6:31] Speaker 1: situation that we're investing.
[6:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, another disclaimer parted an app to wager some of
[6:37] Speaker 2: this capital.
[6:37] Speaker 1: I just tell you, it doesn't matter the state you're in.
[6:40] Speaker 3: It's all legal to invest emotionally in Texas Tech and
[6:43] Speaker 3: Brendan Sorosby. I'll start, I'm going to invest lightly. I'm
[6:51] Speaker 3: going to invest lightly here one because we're not positive
[6:56] Speaker 3: what the outcome is going to be.
[6:57] Speaker 1: Two, we're pretty sure that there's.
[6:59] Speaker 3: Going to be kind of a double middle finger attitude
[7:03] Speaker 3: from Texas Tech with regard to all of this. That's
[7:05] Speaker 3: what we've seen so far. They've been pretty staunch in
[7:09] Speaker 3: their advocacy behind him and his ability to play this season.
[7:15] Speaker 3: The reason I'm not full like guns blazing mask rider
[7:20] Speaker 3: with this whole thing is I merely think he's decent
[7:25] Speaker 3: and they had a decent quarterback last year who was
[7:28] Speaker 3: merely decent, and I think they had a better defensive
[7:31] Speaker 3: line last season, and so I think their path of
[7:34] Speaker 3: the playoff is pretty obvious that they still have the
[7:39] Speaker 3: talent to do so. But to win a game within
[7:43] Speaker 3: the playoff when we don't even know a if they'll
[7:45] Speaker 3: be there and b to what extent Soresby will be
[7:48] Speaker 3: a part of this whole thing, I'm gonna say, I'm
[7:50] Speaker 3: investing like twenty seven percent of my available emotional capital
[7:55] Speaker 3: in this investment here.
[7:57] Speaker 1: I do have the offer sound by the way that
[7:58] Speaker 1: they play.
[8:00] Speaker 2: Oh I found that one on one of the fan
[8:02] Speaker 2: sites or something.
[8:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not bad.
[8:04] Speaker 3: Is Andy looking down because he's writing on his legal
[8:06] Speaker 3: pad to figure out.
[8:07] Speaker 6: I'm doing the math because I want equity here, Yeah,
[8:12] Speaker 6: I want serious equity here, because I'm gonna I'm gonna
[8:14] Speaker 6: invest a lot of emotional capital in this really, because
[8:17] Speaker 6: you said make the playoff and win one playoff game. Right.
[8:22] Speaker 5: There are very few sure bets in this world, and
[8:24] Speaker 5: this is not a short bet.
[8:25] Speaker 6: And I keep using the word bet. Yeah, we refer
[8:28] Speaker 6: to brintin stores me and I am sorry about that.
[8:30] Speaker 6: I don't mean to the whole thing is.
[8:32] Speaker 1: A thematic exercise here, Andy, It's okay, it.
[8:35] Speaker 6: Is so, I hear you, Dan, and I understand that
[8:41] Speaker 6: the man is one and eleven as a starter in November,
[8:45] Speaker 6: but he's not been on teams that are going to
[8:47] Speaker 6: be as talented as this true, and he's played tougher
[8:53] Speaker 6: schedules in November, if we're being real than what they're
[8:57] Speaker 6: going to see. I do, although I do think Oklahoma
[8:59] Speaker 6: State's gonna be pretty good. That's one of the teams
[9:01] Speaker 6: they play in November. It would be West Virginia at
[9:06] Speaker 6: Oklahoma State, at Baylor and TCU. Where is the November
[9:08] Speaker 6: schedule for the Red Raiders? Now, given what we learned,
[9:13] Speaker 6: and this is again I'm not speaking out of school.
[9:16] Speaker 6: This was all stipulated in documents that were filed in
[9:19] Speaker 6: court by Brettan Soorsby's legal team. But gain what we learned,
[9:24] Speaker 6: he is kind of distracted while he was Cincinnati's quarterback.
[9:28] Speaker 5: I suspect those distractions.
[9:30] Speaker 6: Will be removed because people be watching him like hawk
[9:34] Speaker 6: this year. So I do think perhaps he's due for
[9:39] Speaker 6: some improvement. He certainly has better talent around him. Yep,
[9:45] Speaker 6: they certainly don't play a difficult schedule. So all you're
[9:47] Speaker 6: asking me, guys, is will Texas Tech get to the
[9:52] Speaker 6: Big twelve championship game, win the Big Twelve, and then
[9:54] Speaker 6: potentially win a playoff game? I feel pretty good about that.
[9:58] Speaker 2: What I am asking specifically, though, is if Brendan Soresby
[10:02] Speaker 2: will lead Texas Tech.
[10:04] Speaker 6: Well, they're not gonna bench him, so unless he gets hurt, yeah,
[10:07] Speaker 6: he will.
[10:08] Speaker 2: The underlying question is, and I agree, is he going
[10:11] Speaker 2: to be able to play given that there is an
[10:14] Speaker 2: appeals process underway?
[10:16] Speaker 1: Do we think?
[10:16] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[10:17] Speaker 6: And they'll hear that appeal sometime in February twenty twenty seven.
[10:20] Speaker 3: So here's the other thing that I think Andy is
[10:23] Speaker 3: right on that he won't have the wagering distraction. But nobody.
[10:29] Speaker 3: Nobody's too strong a word. His name was not a
[10:32] Speaker 3: household one. Ever, he's better than Baron Morton.
[10:36] Speaker 1: He is likely better than Baron Morton.
[10:38] Speaker 3: He has to be because Baron Morton scored zero zero
[10:43] Speaker 3: scoring drives in their playoff game. So if he is
[10:46] Speaker 3: better and they do win a game, obviously that will
[10:49] Speaker 3: all be self evident. I think the distraction, though, will
[10:53] Speaker 3: be replaced by pressure right that he now is looked at,
[10:59] Speaker 3: not per personally, but in a sort of villainous way.
[11:02] Speaker 3: What he represents, right the toothless nature of the NCAA
[11:06] Speaker 3: and going into road environments. Everybody in that stadium is
[11:10] Speaker 3: now going to know and dislike strongly what Brendan Sorosby represents,
[11:16] Speaker 3: and so he will have pressure that he's never had,
[11:19] Speaker 3: and that likely no quarterback in the country in this
[11:22] Speaker 3: specific way.
[11:23] Speaker 1: We'll have this here.
[11:25] Speaker 5: I just don't know that does't gonna bother him that much. Okay,
[11:28] Speaker 5: we'll see.
[11:29] Speaker 6: I mean, but at Cincinnati is obviously where that's going
[11:33] Speaker 6: to be the the most pressurized because he's going back
[11:38] Speaker 6: to the place he played for.
[11:39] Speaker 5: The last two years.
[11:40] Speaker 6: This is the place where a lot of the bets replaced. Yeah,
[11:44] Speaker 6: not the ones that we were really talking about, which
[11:46] Speaker 6: was the ones in Indiana.
[11:48] Speaker 3: But but he wasn't expected at Cincinnati ever to be
[11:50] Speaker 3: like the missing playoff piece which he is now in.
[11:54] Speaker 6: No, but he delve into a very good quarterback that
[11:58] Speaker 6: probably raised their level of play, sure, which is probably
[12:01] Speaker 6: why they're mad he left.
[12:02] Speaker 1: Agree, So.
[12:05] Speaker 5: I just like you got no Utah and no.
[12:08] Speaker 6: BYU on this regular season schedule, presumably you're going to
[12:11] Speaker 6: see one of those two at the end of the rainbow.
[12:15] Speaker 6: But if you're asking me, can Brendan Swarzby take them
[12:19] Speaker 6: to a Big Twelve title and maybe win a playoff
[12:21] Speaker 6: game like I think ideally, if you're Texas Tech, you
[12:25] Speaker 6: don't blow through undefeated and wind up with a bye
[12:28] Speaker 6: like I need them probably to lose the game in
[12:31] Speaker 6: the regular season, maybe even two, and then win the
[12:35] Speaker 6: Big Twelve so that they are a lower seed.
[12:39] Speaker 5: Yeah, thro play in the first round.
[12:41] Speaker 6: Because I think that gives me a better chance of
[12:42] Speaker 6: winning the playoff game. I'm not sure their roster is
[12:45] Speaker 6: to a point where they can win against a team
[12:48] Speaker 6: that makes the quarterfinals.
[12:49] Speaker 3: They almost assuredly, if not very likely, don't have a
[12:55] Speaker 3: single good defense on the road on this schedule, right,
[12:59] Speaker 3: So if you're talking about whatever pressure from a road environment,
[13:02] Speaker 3: it'll be well, it won't be Oregon State because he'll
[13:04] Speaker 3: be suspended that game. As of now, It'll be at Colorado,
[13:07] Speaker 3: at Cincinnati, at Oklahoma State, at Baylor. It's tough to
[13:11] Speaker 3: see any of those teams as it stands in June
[13:15] Speaker 3: mounting a vicious defense. And again, you can probably lose
[13:20] Speaker 3: one of those and you can probably lose. They lost
[13:22] Speaker 3: Arizona State last year and still ended up with a
[13:25] Speaker 3: buy in a play first round by. Yeah, for my purposes,
[13:28] Speaker 3: I don't want them to get a buye. I want
[13:30] Speaker 3: them playing in the first round. I feel like that
[13:32] Speaker 3: gives me a much better chance of my investment paying off.
[13:35] Speaker 2: Well, that's just being a shrewd sark. That's why we
[13:38] Speaker 2: bring you on this show in it's exactly this.
[13:40] Speaker 1: Is interesting to me.
[13:41] Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't expect to get this level of investment,
[13:43] Speaker 2: but I'm very excited.
[13:44] Speaker 1: Okay, I am.
[13:45] Speaker 5: All in on that.
[13:46] Speaker 6: And it's funny because all the T S Tech fans
[13:48] Speaker 6: are mad at me because we keep talking on the
[13:51] Speaker 6: show about what this ruling means and how it means
[13:55] Speaker 6: the install I can't enforce a rule against gambling on
[13:58] Speaker 6: your own team, and how that's probably a bad thing.
[14:00] Speaker 6: But I don't have a problem personally with Brandon Sorosby,
[14:04] Speaker 6: and I understand why they're going to play him because
[14:06] Speaker 6: they gives him the best. That's why they spend all
[14:08] Speaker 6: that money on him. So yeah, I think they're still
[14:12] Speaker 6: gonna be really good.
[14:14] Speaker 1: You guys want to move on?
[14:15] Speaker 5: Yeah, Next up.
[14:18] Speaker 7: A restoration project for a proud regional brand.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Hey Sarks, you know a lot's changed in college football
[14:35] Speaker 2: over the years. The playoff field has expanded, there are
[14:38] Speaker 2: more teams in it now than ever before. But as
[14:42] Speaker 2: I traveled this great land, one theme comes up time
[14:45] Speaker 2: and again.
[14:47] Speaker 1: Fans feel left out.
[14:49] Speaker 2: How is it that the field that the sport is
[14:53] Speaker 2: supposedly more inclusive, but so many fans still feel forgotten?
[14:58] Speaker 1: Sarks, I believe we can change that. Today.
[15:01] Speaker 2: I'm seeking your emotional investment in the SEC winning this
[15:04] Speaker 2: year's national championship. It's been too regional brand, Oh my goodness,
[15:12] Speaker 2: it's been too long since the SEC had a bite
[15:14] Speaker 2: at the apple. Folks out there in the good old
[15:17] Speaker 2: us of A are fed up with the Big ten.
[15:19] Speaker 2: It's being run by Tony Petiti. Looks more like a petite.
[15:23] Speaker 1: Conference to me, with only a few good teams at
[15:26] Speaker 1: the top Ooh no Meati, Sarks.
[15:28] Speaker 2: With your commitment, we can begin the hard work of
[15:30] Speaker 2: restoring the image of a proud conference that's been cast
[15:34] Speaker 2: aside and left for dead by the cruel machinery of
[15:37] Speaker 2: the national media and.
[15:38] Speaker 1: College football as a whole. Thank you for your time.
[15:41] Speaker 3: I'll let my fellow Sark take it this time first,
[15:44] Speaker 3: So investing in SEC's returned to a national championship.
[15:48] Speaker 6: Place, well, I mean, listen, I think people have been
[15:52] Speaker 6: very unfair to the SEC, and downright mean actually agreed
[15:58] Speaker 6: just because the Big Ten has won the last three
[16:00] Speaker 6: national titles and an SEC team hasn't even made the
[16:03] Speaker 6: national title game. I mean, it's not like the SEC
[16:05] Speaker 6: was ever arrogant about winning national titles.
[16:09] Speaker 2: Win.
[16:10] Speaker 6: It was winning every national titles, very very humble, very humble, exactly. Yeah,
[16:15] Speaker 6: I just I don't understand the meanness of it all.
[16:20] Speaker 5: Now, what I invest in the SEC winning the national
[16:22] Speaker 5: title this year?
[16:25] Speaker 6: I'm happy with a medium investment because I really do
[16:28] Speaker 6: think this is a fifty to fifty proposition.
[16:32] Speaker 1: I love that sound.
[16:34] Speaker 6: The top of the SEC and the top of the
[16:36] Speaker 6: Big Ten are both pretty loaded. Then you've got Miami,
[16:42] Speaker 6: which is also can we can lump them in with
[16:44] Speaker 6: those teams and I think they'll they'll have a chance
[16:47] Speaker 6: to be back in that mix.
[16:49] Speaker 5: Notre Dame also has a chance to be back in the mix.
[16:52] Speaker 6: And that's why I'm just medium on this thing, because
[16:55] Speaker 6: it's not just SEC Big Ten.
[16:57] Speaker 5: Maybe it's not even fifty to fifty.
[17:00] Speaker 6: Maybe the SEC has about a forty percent chance of
[17:03] Speaker 6: winning the national title, which is still good and if
[17:06] Speaker 6: you keep playing out, that means they're going to win
[17:10] Speaker 6: one pretty soon. So but it's not what it used
[17:15] Speaker 6: to be. It's not where you just assumed there's going
[17:17] Speaker 6: to be one or two teams from the SEC playing
[17:20] Speaker 6: for the national title every single year.
[17:22] Speaker 5: And so.
[17:25] Speaker 6: The namesake of this program sark He's got one of
[17:30] Speaker 6: the best rosters in college football. But so does Dan Lanning,
[17:34] Speaker 6: and so does Marcus Freeman, and so does Mario Christobal
[17:39] Speaker 6: and none of those guys are in the SEC. So yeah,
[17:42] Speaker 6: I mean, if we're talking about who are the teams
[17:46] Speaker 6: that can win that we believe had the rosters to
[17:48] Speaker 6: win the national title? And I realized, we just watched
[17:51] Speaker 6: Indiana win a national title, so we're probably should be
[17:56] Speaker 6: casting a wider net. But in the big ten Oregon,
[18:00] Speaker 6: Ohio State, Indiana Again, how do we feel about Michigan,
[18:07] Speaker 6: Penn State?
[18:08] Speaker 5: Do we feel like they I don't USC maybe, but
[18:11] Speaker 5: probably not.
[18:12] Speaker 6: But but those three, the first three I mentioned, Notre
[18:15] Speaker 6: Dame absolutely, Miami absolutely, And so let's go to the SEC, Texas, Georgia.
[18:24] Speaker 5: Who else climbs above that?
[18:26] Speaker 6: Threshold is a question does Ole Miss, does Oklahoma, does LSU?
[18:30] Speaker 1: Bama? If Alabama? You know the thing?
[18:33] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, But the thing is like we we don't
[18:36] Speaker 6: really feel that confident other than Texas and Georgia.
[18:40] Speaker 5: I do think there will be one or two more.
[18:43] Speaker 3: The The idea of an SEC national champion is pretty
[18:46] Speaker 3: easy to either squint or with wide open eyes see
[18:50] Speaker 3: because you know, the best of Sam Levitt if he's healthy,
[18:54] Speaker 3: combined with you know, an LSU offense that looks like
[18:58] Speaker 3: it's it has enough players to make noise and score
[19:00] Speaker 3: points under lane and enough playmakers on defense. Sure, but
[19:04] Speaker 3: it's a lot of ifs. It's a lot of new
[19:06] Speaker 3: you're banking on, like a lot of years. You're like, well,
[19:09] Speaker 3: the best of Alabama under Nick Saban should be that.
[19:13] Speaker 3: You can't say that right now, especially with a new
[19:15] Speaker 3: unknown at quarterback. We think Keilan Russell is going to
[19:18] Speaker 3: be really good, but you got to see it in
[19:20] Speaker 3: June before. You have to have had seen it. If
[19:24] Speaker 3: you're having that conversation about Bama under Kalin de Borr
[19:27] Speaker 3: right now, Oklahoma has the defense but not the quarterback,
[19:30] Speaker 3: like I only see kind of like.
[19:31] Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Jametire could be the quarterback.
[19:33] Speaker 6: I just I don't know if they put enough around
[19:36] Speaker 6: him offensively. I think Oklahoma's being better this year because
[19:40] Speaker 6: I think they're probably going to be able to run
[19:42] Speaker 6: the ball better than they did last year, which would
[19:45] Speaker 6: make them a lot more effective offensively, and their defense
[19:49] Speaker 6: is going to continue to be good.
[19:51] Speaker 5: Alabama, I don't know about. I don't know if if
[19:54] Speaker 5: they're going to be able to run the ball.
[19:56] Speaker 3: When I think about the quarterbacks in this conference, if
[19:59] Speaker 3: you're saying to me, Yon Matier could be that, and
[20:01] Speaker 3: then you think about having to have him throw into
[20:04] Speaker 3: the Miami secondary, let alone the SEC secondaries, the Oregon secondary,
[20:08] Speaker 3: the Ohio State second Like that's where I'm like, Okay,
[20:11] Speaker 3: I think I see two and a half quarterbacks. I
[20:14] Speaker 3: feel decently good about I don't know Sam Levitt's health,
[20:16] Speaker 3: so I'm not considering him at this moment, but like
[20:20] Speaker 3: it's Trinidad Chambliss, it's Arch Manning, and it's maybe Gunner Stockton,
[20:24] Speaker 3: and like I think the individual talent of like Lenora
[20:27] Speaker 3: Sellers is intriguing, but like that offense and the receivers
[20:31] Speaker 3: and the offensive line in front of him, I just
[20:32] Speaker 3: don't see it having a huge ceiling. There are individual talents.
[20:36] Speaker 3: I think it's two and a half quarterbacks. I don't
[20:39] Speaker 3: know about the ole Miss defense. Basically, I think we're
[20:42] Speaker 3: realistically talking about Texas in this moment being the answer
[20:45] Speaker 3: to this question.
[20:47] Speaker 1: Right, and.
[20:49] Speaker 5: They might be the answer.
[20:51] Speaker 6: They might simply be the best team in the country
[20:53] Speaker 6: because you saw him get better as last season went on,
[20:56] Speaker 6: and then they add some incredible pieces like cam cole
[21:00] Speaker 6: In Rashim Biles, like they revamp the running back room
[21:04] Speaker 6: with Hollywood Smothers and Realike Brown. So it does feel
[21:08] Speaker 6: a little bit like how confident are you in Texas
[21:10] Speaker 6: to do it right?
[21:11] Speaker 3: And we're looking at a Texas team that may have
[21:15] Speaker 3: the most difficult non conference game in America or Ohio
[21:19] Speaker 3: State has the most difficult non conference game in America,
[21:22] Speaker 3: and so the odds of them tacking on a non
[21:24] Speaker 3: conference loss is those odds are higher than most and
[21:30] Speaker 3: so that's what kept them out last year, in addition
[21:33] Speaker 3: to the way they played against Florida. So I'm going
[21:38] Speaker 3: to say I'm going to invest to like a thirty
[21:40] Speaker 3: five forty percent level of my emotions in an SEC
[21:44] Speaker 3: national champion this year. Just because there are at least
[21:48] Speaker 3: a handful of quarterbacks who have that ability, there are
[21:51] Speaker 3: the defenses with that ability. And like weird as it
[21:55] Speaker 3: is to say, like Pete Golding is a playoff tested
[21:58] Speaker 3: head coach, right, they have that two in one playoff
[22:02] Speaker 3: record for p goaling E's acutally right. Lane Kiffin is
[22:04] Speaker 3: almost a playoff tested head cover zero and zero zero.
[22:09] Speaker 3: So there's enough, there's enough bites at the apple for
[22:11] Speaker 3: me to say, yeah, thirty five to I.
[22:14] Speaker 6: Would say forty percent. That was what I landed on
[22:16] Speaker 6: a little bit earlier, and by no means it's sure thing,
[22:21] Speaker 6: but yeah, it's going to happen at some point in
[22:23] Speaker 6: the next couple of years.
[22:24] Speaker 1: Let's move on, guys.
[22:27] Speaker 7: Next up, a vintage solution for a Hollywood sized problem.
[22:39] Speaker 2: Hey Sarks, I'm here seeking your emotional investment in Gary
[22:44] Speaker 2: Patterson as the answer for Lincoln Riley's defensive identity crisis
[22:49] Speaker 2: at USC.
[22:51] Speaker 1: I get it.
[22:52] Speaker 2: Gary is sixty six, he's been mostly out of the
[22:55] Speaker 2: game for the last couple of years. But this is
[22:57] Speaker 2: not just an advisor with advisor. This is a Hall
[23:01] Speaker 2: of Fame coach. And if you've ever watched one of
[23:03] Speaker 2: those Coaches Film Room broadcast on ESPN.
[23:05] Speaker 1: You guys know what I'm talking about.
[23:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, the man still sees everything on the field. Patterson
[23:12] Speaker 2: gives USC exactly what it desperately needs, a trusted hand
[23:17] Speaker 2: who can finally turn Lincoln Riley from the be out
[23:20] Speaker 2: West into the beast out West. So Sarks, who is
[23:24] Speaker 2: with me on this once in a lifetime opportunity to
[23:28] Speaker 2: invest in an elite defensive mind.
[23:32] Speaker 3: So what the investment is in USC turning a corner
[23:36] Speaker 3: or just like we are going to look at USC
[23:38] Speaker 3: as having solved its defensive problems even if they don't
[23:42] Speaker 3: make the playoffs, that it's clear that Gary Patterson is
[23:45] Speaker 3: the clear answer.
[23:46] Speaker 2: I think we need to see real progress because, as
[23:50] Speaker 2: you know, should be a playoff, which would be a
[23:51] Speaker 2: playoff perhaps, but I would say at a minimum, real
[23:55] Speaker 2: progress against a very very difficult schedule. And it can't
[23:59] Speaker 2: be one of those things where November rolls around and
[24:02] Speaker 2: we're talking on our respective shows about how Jada Mayava
[24:05] Speaker 2: is throwing the crap out of the ball and the
[24:07] Speaker 2: offense is scoring a ton of points and how much
[24:10] Speaker 2: talent they have on that side of the football, but
[24:12] Speaker 2: the defense remains a liability as it has been I
[24:15] Speaker 2: would say, for the majority of Lincoln Riley's career. So
[24:19] Speaker 2: I am just thinking more generally in terms of, you know,
[24:23] Speaker 2: it feeling like there are good vibes around the defense
[24:26] Speaker 2: and where it is headed, that there is a vision
[24:29] Speaker 2: to rebuild it to the point where I think it
[24:31] Speaker 2: probably should be for a team out in southern California
[24:34] Speaker 2: as opposed to where it has been for the most
[24:37] Speaker 2: part over the last couple of years, which is, hey,
[24:40] Speaker 2: how many points are they going to give up on Saturday?
[24:44] Speaker 5: See, I feel like Dan Lynn had already done that.
[24:47] Speaker 3: It seemed like he was heading in that direction. Yeah, yeah,
[24:51] Speaker 3: Like I love Gary Patterson higher.
[24:53] Speaker 6: It's a tough situation that they wound up finding themselves
[24:56] Speaker 6: in because I don't think they expected Dan Lynn to
[24:59] Speaker 6: leave for essentially a parallel move, but it is him
[25:03] Speaker 6: going back to his alma mater, so it makes sense.
[25:07] Speaker 6: I just I don't think they saw that coming, because
[25:09] Speaker 6: obviously they didn't see James Franklin getting fired coming. But
[25:17] Speaker 6: I don't know that adding Gary Patterson, as great as
[25:20] Speaker 6: I think that hire is necessarily puts them over the
[25:24] Speaker 6: top to make a playoff against this schedule and this
[25:28] Speaker 6: Big ten schedule is so hard that they ducked out of.
[25:33] Speaker 5: The Notre Dame game for it.
[25:35] Speaker 6: So, like Ty, you're talking about coming into November and
[25:41] Speaker 6: feeling like they're not really in the mix for the
[25:43] Speaker 6: playoff anymore. Well, guys, they play Oregon, Washington, Penn State,
[25:48] Speaker 6: and Ohio State before November.
[25:50] Speaker 5: They play Ohio State on Halloween.
[25:54] Speaker 6: That may be the case, by the way, they play
[25:57] Speaker 6: add Indiana on November fourteenth, so that two weeks before
[26:02] Speaker 6: Thanksgiving we already know and could be even earlier than that.
[26:09] Speaker 6: They are going to have to be significantly better, not
[26:11] Speaker 6: just on defense but on offense to go ten and
[26:15] Speaker 6: two against this schedule.
[26:19] Speaker 3: Agree, When I look at what this schedule is to me,
[26:24] Speaker 3: it's almost not even a Gary Patterson thing. It's okay,
[26:29] Speaker 3: an excellent defense with depth can kind of weather this
[26:33] Speaker 3: schedule with some breaks. The question is now, is like, Okay,
[26:37] Speaker 3: there's talent on the defensive line, there's some new linebackers.
[26:40] Speaker 3: I think their shutdown corner hasn't even suited up yet.
[26:42] Speaker 3: The Iowa State transfer. So John tes Williams, he's coming
[26:45] Speaker 3: off of an ACL tear.
[26:48] Speaker 1: When you look at the variety.
[26:50] Speaker 3: Of offenses that they'll be playing. So Oregon's pretty balanced,
[26:54] Speaker 3: Washington will rely on a mobile quarterback who can improvise,
[26:59] Speaker 3: and Jed Fish is a pretty savvy play caller. It
[27:02] Speaker 3: seems like they're going to do a lot of their
[27:03] Speaker 3: damage through the air, if at all.
[27:05] Speaker 1: And both those right exactly.
[27:10] Speaker 3: Wisconsin's going to be a bucket of wrenches on the
[27:12] Speaker 3: road in October. Penn State is across the country and
[27:15] Speaker 3: that's a mystery right now. Ohio State, we don't fully
[27:18] Speaker 3: know what that offense is going to look like, but
[27:20] Speaker 3: given Arthur Smith's past, we know that he is going
[27:23] Speaker 3: to try to play angry on the ground at least
[27:25] Speaker 3: for a chunk of that game. So does USC have
[27:29] Speaker 3: I mean they have freshmen coming in, but do they
[27:31] Speaker 3: have depth of bodies and like large s on that
[27:34] Speaker 3: defense to handle that deeper into the season. You know,
[27:38] Speaker 3: Indiana on the road is going to be difficult and
[27:40] Speaker 3: it's going to be exploiting whatever the holes are in
[27:42] Speaker 3: that defense. So to me, it's a combination of what
[27:47] Speaker 3: does the offense look like. We know the quarterback's gonna
[27:49] Speaker 3: be good, but the receiving playmakers are just some they're different.
[27:55] Speaker 3: I just don't think Gary Patterson has the necessary depth
[27:59] Speaker 3: and experience to be that difference maker against this schedule.
[28:03] Speaker 1: I'll put it about fifteen percent.
[28:05] Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think this is a Gary Patterson problem.
[28:08] Speaker 6: I think this is a you guys started recruiting in
[28:11] Speaker 6: the way you should be recruiting just recently, and you
[28:15] Speaker 6: should have been doing this since Lincoln Riley got the job.
[28:18] Speaker 5: I think that's the problem. And so.
[28:21] Speaker 6: Again, if they've been doing this for two or three years,
[28:24] Speaker 6: this it was this recruiting class that really was the
[28:26] Speaker 6: beginning of it. They've been doing this for two or
[28:28] Speaker 6: three years. I'm not that worried about it. But given
[28:32] Speaker 6: what they face and the way those opponents stack in
[28:37] Speaker 6: that schedule, it's going to be very difficult for them
[28:40] Speaker 6: to go ten and two against the schedule.
[28:42] Speaker 3: And we saw last year. Look last year, a different coordinator,
[28:44] Speaker 3: different schedule. Right, that was a Kamari Ramsey who was
[28:47] Speaker 3: out for the Illinois game. They lost a safety and
[28:51] Speaker 3: made Luke Altmeyer look like a Heisman winner. Right, he
[28:56] Speaker 3: was just bombing it down the field.
[28:57] Speaker 1: Right.
[28:57] Speaker 3: They did not have the depth, They did not have
[28:59] Speaker 3: the ability to adjust, and that's the problem when you
[29:01] Speaker 3: don't have that depth when you don't have when you're
[29:04] Speaker 3: not stacking recruiting classes and portal classes like they should
[29:08] Speaker 3: have been doing. To sark Andy's point, I just harky,
[29:13] Speaker 3: sark Andy, Yeah, what do you want me to call him?
[29:16] Speaker 1: No, that's good, that's good.
[29:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, So yeah, I think Gary Patterson will
[29:22] Speaker 3: have a limited ceiling given this schedule.
[29:25] Speaker 1: So yeah, fifteen percent. Let's let's move on.
[29:28] Speaker 7: Next up a startup looking for more startups.
[29:41] Speaker 2: Hey, sarks I'm here seeking your emotional investment in a
[29:45] Speaker 2: new Group of six team crashing the college football playoff party.
[29:51] Speaker 2: Not Boise State, not Tulane, not JM you. We're talking
[29:55] Speaker 2: new blood. As you guys know, these are exciting times
[29:59] Speaker 2: for the G six. Not only is it developing talent
[30:02] Speaker 2: for bigger schools, it's also coming off a season that
[30:05] Speaker 2: placed two teams in the field of twelve. The good
[30:09] Speaker 2: news in twenty twenty six is that you've got plenty
[30:12] Speaker 2: of options for newcomers. Maybe it's Dan Mullen and you
[30:15] Speaker 2: and LV figure in something out with Jackson Arnold. Maybe
[30:19] Speaker 2: it's a Hawaii team that came off a nine win season.
[30:23] Speaker 2: Maybe it'll be North Dakota State, if the NCAA grants
[30:26] Speaker 2: their waiver. College football SARKS is increasingly a battle of
[30:31] Speaker 2: halves versus have notts, and while the online punditry is
[30:36] Speaker 2: obsessed with trying to find a fix, I am here
[30:39] Speaker 2: to tell you today that the best way to be
[30:41] Speaker 2: a fan in twenty twenty six is through the group
[30:44] Speaker 2: of six. Thank you very much, and true to form,
[30:47] Speaker 2: I do have samples. If you look at your screen,
[30:50] Speaker 2: we also samples available for you to try out.
[30:54] Speaker 5: You don't even have the one that's going to make
[30:55] Speaker 5: the playoff.
[30:57] Speaker 1: Maybe not, maybe not.
[31:00] Speaker 5: The USF Bulls.
[31:02] Speaker 6: I was just gonna ask, okay, under new coach Brian Hardline.
[31:05] Speaker 1: An SEC quarterback Michael van Buren.
[31:08] Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes, it's multiple SEC teams.
[31:13] Speaker 1: He's well versed.
[31:15] Speaker 3: I want to say maybe he was committed to both
[31:16] Speaker 3: Oregon and Penn State at a certain point as well.
[31:18] Speaker 1: He's been he's been around. We are Van Buren boys
[31:20] Speaker 1: in this show.
[31:21] Speaker 6: You know this, Dan Sho So yeah, Heardline walks into
[31:24] Speaker 6: a situation where USF has set up there in NIL
[31:30] Speaker 6: probably better than anybody in that league.
[31:32] Speaker 5: So he has a lot more you know, resource to
[31:36] Speaker 5: work with it.
[31:36] Speaker 6: Yes, obviously they were pillaged when Alex Goulish left, and
[31:40] Speaker 6: he took a lot of the better players to Auburn
[31:43] Speaker 6: with him, but that's to be expected. Heart Line is
[31:47] Speaker 6: an ace Orcrewer maybe the best wide receivers coach in
[31:51] Speaker 6: the world, and I'm not being hyperbolic there. I think
[31:55] Speaker 6: that that might be the case, and so I expect
[32:01] Speaker 6: him to have a very good year year one. Now, Look,
[32:04] Speaker 6: the American is not going to be easy to win,
[32:07] Speaker 6: because Navy is going to be good. Army has been good.
[32:11] Speaker 6: I think Charles hoff is going to do a good
[32:13] Speaker 6: job at Memphis. He's also in the situation where he's
[32:16] Speaker 6: got to replace a lot there. But I'm fascinated to
[32:21] Speaker 6: see Hardline in USF because I think Golish had it
[32:24] Speaker 6: in a good place and that administration has it in
[32:28] Speaker 6: a very good place right now where they are probably
[32:32] Speaker 6: supported as well as any team in the Group of six.
[32:36] Speaker 3: Fair I'm looking through this and if we want to
[32:41] Speaker 3: sort of be thorough ty, if you want to put
[32:43] Speaker 3: the picture on the screen one more time for our
[32:46] Speaker 3: audio listeners, who you've pitched here so UNLV with Jackson Arnold,
[32:54] Speaker 3: North Dakota State with a lot of new faces for
[32:57] Speaker 3: the Bison. Fresno State now in the PAC twelve. Yes,
[33:01] Speaker 3: San Diego State now in the PAC twelve. Hawaii has
[33:04] Speaker 3: been doing fun things these past couple of seasons. I'm saying,
[33:07] Speaker 3: first year coach Charles Huff and Memphis is that the logo.
[33:11] Speaker 2: I'm saying, there's Memphis. I put Delaware in there just
[33:14] Speaker 2: because I like the Blue Hen. I don't know you
[33:15] Speaker 2: like the Blue hen. They should be pretty decent. But no,
[33:18] Speaker 2: this is this is not really intended as a full
[33:20] Speaker 2: inventory of your options, but right more just in a
[33:24] Speaker 2: mouse bush of sorts of G six teams that you
[33:27] Speaker 2: could pick if you are feeling inspired.
[33:29] Speaker 6: Sure, we're still we're still waiting on the NCAA with
[33:33] Speaker 6: North Dakota State though, And that's that's an interesting one
[33:35] Speaker 6: for me because theoretically they could come in right away
[33:40] Speaker 6: whin the mount West because you have the schism where
[33:43] Speaker 6: the teams went to the PAC twelve. The Mountain West
[33:46] Speaker 6: is not nearly as deep as it would have been,
[33:49] Speaker 6: so I mean, could they come in right away?
[33:53] Speaker 1: You know?
[33:53] Speaker 2: And the other the other interesting component to that, obviously
[33:56] Speaker 2: the waiver, That whole side of it remains to be seen.
[34:00] Speaker 2: But what is the issue for so many G six
[34:03] Speaker 2: teams with regard to gaining national credibility.
[34:05] Speaker 1: It took Boise forever.
[34:07] Speaker 2: They had to build up that credibility over the course
[34:09] Speaker 2: of time. North Dakota State steps into this much the
[34:12] Speaker 2: way James Madison sort of did, but North Dakota State's
[34:15] Speaker 2: on a different level where they've got decades of success
[34:19] Speaker 2: behind that program that they can sort of lean on,
[34:22] Speaker 2: and that members of the committee can look at when
[34:24] Speaker 2: they're ranking those teams and feel decent about where this
[34:28] Speaker 2: program's been in their ability to perform in high leverage moments,
[34:31] Speaker 2: which I think is not something many of their peers
[34:33] Speaker 2: can say, given that they don't have that level of
[34:36] Speaker 2: success before getting to FBS.
[34:39] Speaker 3: Okay, I'm investing like fifty to sixty five percent of
[34:42] Speaker 3: my emotional capital in a new G six. Thank you.
[34:47] Speaker 3: You neglected my pet team here, I know, and that's
[34:50] Speaker 3: the New Mexico Lobos.
[34:51] Speaker 5: I did that on purpose, x Lobos. I was just
[34:55] Speaker 5: about to mention them.
[34:56] Speaker 1: I said that on purpose. I was hoping you would
[34:58] Speaker 1: go there.
[34:59] Speaker 3: They have an opportun unity and I'm not going through
[35:01] Speaker 3: there too deep. I have not studied what this year's
[35:04] Speaker 3: team looks like. Okay, but we know the Mountain West,
[35:08] Speaker 3: in my opinion, may not be as robust as it
[35:11] Speaker 3: has in previous seasons with the loss of teams like
[35:14] Speaker 3: San Diego, Fresno and Boise right to the Pac twelfth,
[35:18] Speaker 3: they have an opportunity to have one of the best
[35:23] Speaker 3: let down wins of the season in getting Oklahoma after
[35:27] Speaker 3: Oklahoma plays Michigan on the road.
[35:30] Speaker 1: Right.
[35:30] Speaker 3: New Mexico's obviously on the road in this matchup, but
[35:33] Speaker 3: in terms of a letdown falling into the lap of
[35:36] Speaker 3: the Lobos, that is a nice spot for them to
[35:39] Speaker 3: get that sort of resume win if they can somehow
[35:42] Speaker 3: pull it off in Norman. I'm not feeling great about it.
[35:44] Speaker 3: I'm sure they'll be like twenty seven and a half
[35:46] Speaker 3: point dogs or something, but they have that opportunity the
[35:50] Speaker 3: schedule the Mountain West, adding I believe we're talking about
[35:53] Speaker 3: Northern Illinois and North Dakota State to its roster of teams.
[35:59] Speaker 3: I just think it's this is our favorite preseason word,
[36:02] Speaker 3: navigable for a New Mexico.
[36:04] Speaker 1: A lot of syllables, yeah, navigable.
[36:08] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[36:09] Speaker 3: I don't hate the USF pick. I just think we're
[36:13] Speaker 3: ripe for something new. This year, and I don't love
[36:17] Speaker 3: any of the stalwarts in the way that I have
[36:20] Speaker 3: in previous years. With no Ashton Gent sort of leading
[36:22] Speaker 3: the way for one of these teams, I don't think
[36:25] Speaker 3: the star power is necessary is not obviously there right now.
[36:27] Speaker 3: So yeah, fifty to sixty five percent of my emotional
[36:29] Speaker 3: investment in a new G six team playing in January
[36:35] Speaker 3: against one of the large boys.
[36:38] Speaker 6: The Lobos would be fun. You mentioned them going to Norman.
[36:42] Speaker 6: The folks in Norman remember the bell Dozer Blake Belle, Well,
[36:48] Speaker 6: the Lobos have their version of the bell Dozer in
[36:51] Speaker 6: James Lobstein. He's the short yardage quarterback, run game guy
[36:56] Speaker 6: and just comes in and freight trans people. I love
[37:01] Speaker 6: I love Jason Eck like this is this is this
[37:04] Speaker 6: is very.
[37:04] Speaker 1: Fun likely power for head coach next season. Jason Eck.
[37:10] Speaker 3: I mean, he's just he's gonna be that guy, right
[37:12] Speaker 3: He just it seems like he has that command. It
[37:14] Speaker 3: seems like he has that ability.
[37:16] Speaker 6: A former Wisconsin offensive lineman toiled away in the SCS
[37:19] Speaker 6: for quite some time and then got to New Mexico,
[37:23] Speaker 6: and really, I mean they were they were left baron
[37:28] Speaker 6: as well, because that's just that's how things work in
[37:32] Speaker 6: the group of five slash group of six these days,
[37:35] Speaker 6: and he very quickly made them competitive again. So yeah,
[37:38] Speaker 6: I think he will be a pretty pretty popular candidate
[37:44] Speaker 6: if he keeps them winning.
[37:45] Speaker 3: In year one, he was the weird tiebreak dice roll
[37:49] Speaker 3: coin flip away from going to the Mountain West Championship game.
[37:53] Speaker 3: Did it with an Iowa transfer receiver. Do we see
[37:57] Speaker 3: a lot of teams using Iowa receivers successfully? Not a
[38:00] Speaker 3: ton in this sport, not Iowa. The schedule's not horrible,
[38:04] Speaker 3: they're at Hawaii. But yeah, I mean, oh, there's also
[38:08] Speaker 3: connective tissue. I thought when you were talking about the
[38:10] Speaker 3: bell Dozer, I believe New Mexico was it the Land
[38:14] Speaker 3: of Enchantment? Is that what the state's nickname is, the
[38:16] Speaker 3: home of legendary Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones.
[38:20] Speaker 1: It is, You're right, connective tissue there, it is. Matchup.
[38:24] Speaker 1: I'm just it's June tenth.
[38:25] Speaker 3: I'm calling it now New Mexico pulling the oup. So yeah,
[38:28] Speaker 3: I'm saying fifty to sixty five percent.
[38:29] Speaker 2: All right, let's see if we can squeeze two more
[38:31] Speaker 2: in real quick before we got to go right here.
[38:33] Speaker 7: Okay, all right, Next up the visionary who wants to
[38:38] Speaker 7: diversify your portfolio.
[38:48] Speaker 1: Hey, Sark, so I'll cut to the chase.
[38:49] Speaker 2: I'm here seeking your emotional investment in literally anyone other
[38:53] Speaker 2: than Miami winning the ACC. Sure, the canes of the roster,
[38:58] Speaker 2: the momentum, the historic brand, but the ACC is not
[39:01] Speaker 2: a conference that follows a clean script.
[39:04] Speaker 1: Ever, They've never won. This is also true. I left
[39:09] Speaker 1: that out of the pitch.
[39:10] Speaker 2: Okay, this is a conference built for a team like
[39:15] Speaker 2: a Clemson, a Louisville, a Georgia Tech and SMU or
[39:17] Speaker 2: some other moderately flawed team to show up in November
[39:21] Speaker 2: and tear up everything we thought we knew. Miami might
[39:24] Speaker 2: be the obvious play, but obvious plays, Sark and Sarks
[39:30] Speaker 2: is how you end up emotionally bankrupt by November.
[39:33] Speaker 1: Now is the.
[39:33] Speaker 2: Time to buy any one other than the loudest stock
[39:37] Speaker 2: on the board. Now is the time to invest in
[39:40] Speaker 2: the ACC doing what it does best and making it
[39:44] Speaker 2: all up as it goes along.
[39:45] Speaker 1: Thank you for you.
[39:48] Speaker 6: They still have to make up a timebreaker, right, They
[39:50] Speaker 6: try to make it a time breaker and then pitch
[39:52] Speaker 6: it to everybody else to see if they would join it,
[39:55] Speaker 6: and everybody else is like, they're not joining you.
[39:57] Speaker 1: How it works?
[39:58] Speaker 4: Now?
[39:58] Speaker 1: Yeah right, Miami, you get to write how the tiebreaker works.
[40:01] Speaker 3: Seven and five, Champ, I am one hundred percent in
[40:08] Speaker 3: on Miami. I am zero percent investing in somebody else.
[40:13] Speaker 3: I know it's smart betting to look at the field strongly.
[40:18] Speaker 3: I know that weird things can happen with injuries. I
[40:21] Speaker 3: know that there are all sorts of variables. We have
[40:24] Speaker 3: seen Miami lose games they should win with decisions or
[40:28] Speaker 3: mistakes at the end that have kept them out of
[40:30] Speaker 3: these situations. I think there are reasons why we have
[40:34] Speaker 3: streaks like this, But at the same time, streaks end
[40:38] Speaker 3: Miami wins its first ACC crown this year. No tiebreaker,
[40:43] Speaker 3: no adversity, no endgame scenarios will prevent it. So you
[40:49] Speaker 3: can keep your investment. Pitch, you get zero of my
[40:53] Speaker 3: emotional dollars.
[40:54] Speaker 2: See listen. This is how I know that there is
[40:58] Speaker 2: room for you to improve as a sark gin. I'm
[41:00] Speaker 2: just gonna say, true, we're friends here.
[41:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
[41:03] Speaker 2: If you wanted to really play the part, you got
[41:05] Speaker 2: to step into this conversation and say, look, I appreciate
[41:08] Speaker 2: what you're doing. I'm already a Miami investor. I know
[41:13] Speaker 2: what kind of work goes into building this into an
[41:15] Speaker 2: ACC champion, and so for those reasons, I am out for.
[41:19] Speaker 1: Those reasons, and look I have.
[41:21] Speaker 2: I was going to say that you gotta give me
[41:24] Speaker 2: a chance to please please sark I eagerly await your
[41:28] Speaker 2: where's my thing?
[41:30] Speaker 1: If there are any offers on the board here, thank
[41:31] Speaker 1: you for your time.
[41:32] Speaker 6: But there we go, all right now, Unfortunately I'm going
[41:37] Speaker 6: to Michael Corleoni. My offer is nothing. So here, here's
[41:43] Speaker 6: here's the problem you've been You've based your pitch around
[41:48] Speaker 6: an a CEC championship, which I agree Miami's never won,
[41:54] Speaker 6: so time history is not on our side here.
[41:56] Speaker 1: No, but.
[42:01] Speaker 5: What is Miami's toughest game this season?
[42:06] Speaker 6: It doesn't count for this and Miami historically, whether it's
[42:11] Speaker 6: Mario Crista ball, whether it's it's Manny Diaz, they're.
[42:15] Speaker 5: Good for about two head scratchers a year in conference play.
[42:18] Speaker 1: Correct.
[42:19] Speaker 5: Last year it was Louisville SMU. I'm not sure there's
[42:23] Speaker 5: any head scratchers.
[42:24] Speaker 6: And I realize you're gonna tell me, oh what, but Andy,
[42:28] Speaker 6: that's what makes it a head scratcher.
[42:30] Speaker 5: You can't see it coming. I just don't. I don't
[42:32] Speaker 5: see it coming at all.
[42:34] Speaker 6: Like there's an at Clemson game, which could be dangerous
[42:37] Speaker 6: because Clemson's always talented.
[42:39] Speaker 5: But that's not like you're not.
[42:41] Speaker 6: Going to go into that game following your your rousing
[42:44] Speaker 6: winn against Central Michigan. You're not going to go into
[42:47] Speaker 6: that game thinking, oh, we're just gonna roll over. It's Clemson,
[42:51] Speaker 6: it's still Memorial Stadium, it's still Death Valley, They're still
[42:54] Speaker 6: coming down the hill. So you're gonna be up for
[42:56] Speaker 6: that game. So you're not losing that one. You're not
[42:58] Speaker 6: losing a Stanford Week one on a Friday night. Now,
[43:04] Speaker 6: had they been sent to the Bay Area slightly north
[43:09] Speaker 6: and west north and east of Stanford on a Friday
[43:12] Speaker 6: night in the middle of the season, like other like
[43:15] Speaker 6: Clemson is, Yeah, like Clemson is, then I might have
[43:20] Speaker 6: been willing to invest a little. If you got to
[43:23] Speaker 6: play JKS on a Friday night in Berkeley, then I'm
[43:27] Speaker 6: scared for you.
[43:28] Speaker 3: I mean, look, Miami likely should have lost that game
[43:31] Speaker 3: two years ago with Mendoza.
[43:33] Speaker 6: Florida State does not scare me. No, Pitt doesn't scare me.
[43:38] Speaker 6: The Fighting Bill Belichick's don't scare me Duke in the
[43:43] Speaker 6: Daariy Mince revenge game. Maybe, but the fact that it's
[43:46] Speaker 6: the Dairy and Minster revenge game is gonna get Miami
[43:49] Speaker 6: up for that game, right, And it's so really you're
[43:53] Speaker 6: you're resting on James Franklin and Bill O'Brien here.
[43:56] Speaker 5: That's a lot to ask and one loss is not
[43:58] Speaker 5: going to keep you out of the conference champs.
[44:00] Speaker 2: You get James Franklin is great in rank games, I
[44:03] Speaker 2: promise you, And for.
[44:06] Speaker 5: That reason, I'm out.
[44:09] Speaker 1: I just look.
[44:10] Speaker 3: One of the things that I look at is as
[44:12] Speaker 3: as a sark Andy alluded to is right its place,
[44:15] Speaker 3: it's time. But it's also the quarterbacks on this schedule, Like,
[44:19] Speaker 3: are you gonna Billy Edwards, Christopher Vezina, Geo Lopez, Walker, Egot,
[44:25] Speaker 3: Ethan Grunkmeyer, Mason Heinschel, Geo Lopez.
[44:29] Speaker 6: Don't say Mason Heinschel like that evens a very effective
[44:33] Speaker 6: starting quarterback as a freshman.
[44:35] Speaker 3: Also, don't watch his November if you want to continue
[44:38] Speaker 3: along with this.
[44:39] Speaker 5: Tate Reynolds.
[44:41] Speaker 6: Now, yeah, if it's a Tate Reynolds, If Tate Reynolds
[44:43] Speaker 6: has taken over at Clemson, we might have a different conversation.
[44:48] Speaker 3: Here, But do you know who Stanford starting quarterback is
[44:51] Speaker 3: this year? To open up, I do Davis Warren. Davis
[44:53] Speaker 3: Warren still going well.
[44:56] Speaker 6: Think about this, Andrew Luck played quarterback for Jim Harbaugh
[44:58] Speaker 6: to be to Beata Princher play court back for Jim Harbor.
[45:00] Speaker 5: Like well, who's played quarterback for Jim Harbaugh?
[45:03] Speaker 1: It still has eligibility.
[45:04] Speaker 5: It's Davis Warren coming down.
[45:06] Speaker 3: He's in practice, has played quarterback for Jim Harbaugh. Yes,
[45:10] Speaker 3: I'm desperate to fun like scrape together the dollars as
[45:14] Speaker 3: like a you know, a hail Mary football term investment here.
[45:18] Speaker 1: I just can't find them with these quarterbacks.
[45:20] Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you. I was writing this pitch
[45:22] Speaker 2: and I was like, they have to be a tough one.
[45:24] Speaker 2: They have to both be out here.
[45:26] Speaker 1: I just don't.
[45:27] Speaker 2: It's not that somebody else can't do it. It's just
[45:30] Speaker 2: that we're recording this on June the tenth, and it
[45:32] Speaker 2: is certainly not obvious who that team would be right now.
[45:36] Speaker 6: I do think someone smu is the one. I would say, yeah,
[45:40] Speaker 6: they would have to be most worried about. But the
[45:42] Speaker 6: thing is they don't play SMU in the regular season.
[45:46] Speaker 6: They're not seeing them until the a SEC championship game,
[45:48] Speaker 6: and SMU's got to make it.
[45:50] Speaker 1: Yep, SMU's got to make though.
[45:52] Speaker 3: They don't have Louisville either, Right, Well, it's been quality obviously.
[45:56] Speaker 5: Louisll beat them last year.
[45:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, and you're talking about a Louisville team with a
[45:59] Speaker 3: quarterback who has played zero meaningful snaps.
[46:03] Speaker 5: All right, let's do our Lincoln Keyholts.
[46:07] Speaker 1: Final pitch here for the Sarks, your racure here.
[46:10] Speaker 7: Next up, an entrepreneur undistracted by shiny objects.
[46:22] Speaker 2: Hey, Sarks, I am here seeking your emotional investment in
[46:27] Speaker 2: the Notre Dame fighting Irish being aggressively overrated. Oh look,
[46:36] Speaker 2: Notre Dame might be very good, but this schedule is
[46:40] Speaker 2: not exactly a cage match weekend and week out. It's
[46:43] Speaker 2: wisconsonant lambeau Field, it's a trip to BYU, It's home
[46:48] Speaker 2: games against Miami and SMU, and otherwise a whole bunch
[46:52] Speaker 2: of opponents where the Irish should be bigger, better, more dominant,
[46:57] Speaker 2: and let's just say it a lot richer. Now is
[47:00] Speaker 2: not the time, in this moment of college football peril,
[47:05] Speaker 2: to confuse winning a lot of games with being definitely elite.
[47:11] Speaker 2: Now is the time to invest in Notre Dame as
[47:14] Speaker 2: the sport's most polished strength of schedule.
[47:18] Speaker 1: Mirage, thank you for your time.
[47:20] Speaker 3: Oh let sark Andy go for this one first. You're
[47:22] Speaker 3: investing in overrated Notre Dame having a terrific record during
[47:26] Speaker 3: the regular season and then being exposed in January, is
[47:29] Speaker 3: what my interpretation is.
[47:31] Speaker 2: Are completely a product of their schedule, completely a product
[47:34] Speaker 2: of the of the national punditry. We're investing here in
[47:39] Speaker 2: what I think real college football fans across this great
[47:42] Speaker 2: land of ours.
[47:43] Speaker 1: I've talked to many of them, as you.
[47:44] Speaker 2: Know, this is what they see through the lens of
[47:48] Speaker 2: the common fan and not through what they see on
[47:51] Speaker 2: the major name.
[47:52] Speaker 3: But you're also you're also pitching us on Notre Dame
[47:54] Speaker 3: agreeing to play in the postseason, right, which would.
[47:59] Speaker 1: It would either make a playoffs?
[48:00] Speaker 5: They'll agree, Yeah, well.
[48:02] Speaker 1: Never say never. We disagree with being the night and seed. Alright, alright,
[48:07] Speaker 1: all right, all right, let me break this down for you.
[48:12] Speaker 5: Was Notre Dame a product product.
[48:13] Speaker 6: Of its schedule when it lost to Marshall and then
[48:16] Speaker 6: went on a win streak and made the first twelve
[48:19] Speaker 6: team college football playoff, because it certainly looked like it
[48:24] Speaker 6: wasn't when it was rolling to the national championship game
[48:26] Speaker 6: through Indiana, which that win looks even different now, even
[48:31] Speaker 6: better Georgia and Penn State.
[48:37] Speaker 5: I think we all agree.
[48:38] Speaker 6: If Notre Dame made the playoff last year, the Irish
[48:41] Speaker 6: could have made noise in that playoff. I believe our
[48:45] Speaker 6: friend Parker Fleming his side. If you matched all those
[48:49] Speaker 6: teams up on neutral fields, Notre Dame would have been
[48:50] Speaker 6: favored by against more than half of the teams that
[48:53] Speaker 6: made the playoff. Notre Dame is for real. The rosters
[48:58] Speaker 6: for real. They're great on both lines of scrimmage. They're
[49:02] Speaker 6: the best cornerback in the game. And letarn more, CJ.
[49:06] Speaker 6: Carr is going to be one of the best quarterbacks
[49:09] Speaker 6: in the country, if not already. You look at his
[49:12] Speaker 6: numbers from last year. He was pretty spectacular as a
[49:15] Speaker 6: first year starter. This is a good team. Is it
[49:19] Speaker 6: their fault that USC is too scared to play them?
[49:25] Speaker 6: They didn't back out of that series. USC did they
[49:30] Speaker 6: do play the Uyu.
[49:31] Speaker 5: That is the best possible replacement they could have found
[49:34] Speaker 5: on short notice.
[49:34] Speaker 1: It's a great game isn't it. That's an awesome ring.
[49:37] Speaker 6: They do play Miami, they do play SMU. It's not
[49:40] Speaker 6: like they won't be challenged at all in the regular season.
[49:42] Speaker 2: But they're not in a conference. They're not in a conference. Andy,
[49:45] Speaker 2: come on, open your eyes. Am I supposed to care
[49:49] Speaker 2: that they're not in the conference. I realize that bothers
[49:51] Speaker 2: some people, but it doesn't bother me. I listen, I
[49:55] Speaker 2: let your freak flag fly.
[50:00] Speaker 3: I'm going to take a slightly different techt than sark
[50:04] Speaker 3: Andy here, I'm gonna.
[50:05] Speaker 1: Say quickly.
[50:08] Speaker 3: In January to win games, especially given who they could
[50:13] Speaker 3: be playing against. I'm still not in love with their
[50:15] Speaker 3: offensive skill talent around CJ. Car Just when you look
[50:19] Speaker 3: at what other teams may have.
[50:21] Speaker 5: You mean, losing the two first round running backs.
[50:23] Speaker 3: Losing the two first round running backs, not having obvious
[50:27] Speaker 3: you know all whatever receivers are a tight end at
[50:30] Speaker 3: the moment. I like their lines of scrimmage a good say.
[50:32] Speaker 3: I'm not worried about that because they're going to block.
[50:34] Speaker 3: They're going to block. They're gonna win those games. And
[50:37] Speaker 3: here's the thing. When I listen to SEC fans, they
[50:40] Speaker 3: tell me, having that non gauntlet schedule is how you
[50:43] Speaker 3: win national championships, right. They don't have the schedule, they
[50:47] Speaker 3: don't have the gauntlet, and so for that reason, I
[50:53] Speaker 3: think I'm at least slightly in on Notre Dame being overrated,
[50:56] Speaker 3: but not terribly so. I think they'll be all the
[50:59] Speaker 3: way out here, all the way out. I'm going ten
[51:00] Speaker 3: to twelve percent, ten to twelve percent. Even though Marcus
[51:04] Speaker 3: Freeman has made a national championship game, I still I
[51:08] Speaker 3: want to see them.
[51:09] Speaker 6: There's so much deeper than the Brian Kelly Notre Dame
[51:12] Speaker 6: teams used to be are. They're built to win national
[51:17] Speaker 6: championships in this era.
[51:19] Speaker 3: If they need to score thirty four points against Ole
[51:21] Speaker 3: Miss in a playoff game, do you think they can.
[51:24] Speaker 5: And on Miss score thirty four on them?
[51:26] Speaker 1: That's true.
[51:28] Speaker 3: I mean Marcel Reid scored led a team to zero
[51:31] Speaker 3: touchdowns in the playoff and led them to forty plus
[51:34] Speaker 3: points against Notre Dame last season. So you never know,
[51:37] Speaker 3: football is weird.
[51:38] Speaker 1: So I'm very biased on this one. As you guys know, I.
[51:43] Speaker 5: Was surprised you even asked it.
[51:44] Speaker 1: Well, I have to go against tendency.
[51:47] Speaker 2: You know, this is what all the team football term
[51:49] Speaker 2: game This is what the best coaches in the game do,
[51:54] Speaker 2: I think, because there are some questions, particularly about the backfield,
[51:59] Speaker 2: and they have good ops. They're just not name brand
[52:01] Speaker 2: guys like they had the last couple of years. But
[52:04] Speaker 2: I think they feel good about some of the names
[52:06] Speaker 2: that popped in spring and some of the guys that
[52:08] Speaker 2: are going to be joining up. I would feel great
[52:11] Speaker 2: about running behind that offensive line. Yeah, I like they're
[52:13] Speaker 2: gonna be okay there. The question about receiver, I think
[52:16] Speaker 2: is extremely valid, but if nothing more, they also have
[52:20] Speaker 2: more options out wide than they ever had before. This
[52:23] Speaker 2: is a deep receiver room, even if it is not
[52:26] Speaker 2: the most name brand receiver room. And I think one
[52:29] Speaker 2: of the lessons learned throughout the course of the season
[52:32] Speaker 2: and now the off season is that there is a
[52:35] Speaker 2: lot more trust from the standpoint of Mike den Brock
[52:38] Speaker 2: and Marcus Freeman that they can take whatever gloves they
[52:41] Speaker 2: had on CJ. Carr fully off and let him run
[52:44] Speaker 2: the offense, let him stretch the field, let him take
[52:48] Speaker 2: some of those chances. Because they just have this level
[52:51] Speaker 2: of trust in his ability and his ability to process
[52:54] Speaker 2: that I think the offense is going to be a
[52:56] Speaker 2: lot more built around CJ this year than it was
[53:00] Speaker 2: last year, certainly last year when it was more built
[53:02] Speaker 2: around the ground of ground assault. So I'm pretty confident
[53:05] Speaker 2: to your point that if they got to go out
[53:06] Speaker 2: there and score thirty points, thirty plus points against a
[53:09] Speaker 2: good opponent, that it's the capability is there, even if
[53:12] Speaker 2: the names right now that the household names aren't yet.
[53:17] Speaker 3: They if we're going to use my rubric of quarterback
[53:20] Speaker 3: and defense, and even if you want to extend that
[53:21] Speaker 3: to quarterback and lines of scrimmage, if they're not the
[53:24] Speaker 3: number one team in the nation that checks the quarterback
[53:27] Speaker 3: and lines of scrimmage box, they're probably one.
[53:29] Speaker 1: Of the top three easily.
[53:31] Speaker 3: So easily, I can, in good conscious bet a good
[53:34] Speaker 3: amount of my investment capital on Notre Dame being overrated.
[53:37] Speaker 3: If that's the starting point. Fair enough, all right.
[53:42] Speaker 2: Sarks, This has been a pleasure as always to get
[53:46] Speaker 2: your business acumen as part of the show.
[53:49] Speaker 1: I had some other ones here. I won't go through
[53:51] Speaker 1: all of these.
[53:51] Speaker 2: I had the question of will Indiana make a third
[53:54] Speaker 2: straight playoff? I had a question of will there be
[53:58] Speaker 2: a new team from the Big twelve making the college
[54:02] Speaker 2: football playoffs? So other than TCU Texas Tech, Arizona State,
[54:06] Speaker 2: or you can go back as far as you want to,
[54:07] Speaker 2: like Cincinnati. Will there be a Big ten? This was
[54:11] Speaker 2: Dan's Actually will there be a Big ten? Heisman finalist
[54:14] Speaker 2: quarterback not named more saying Hoover or Mayava? And then
[54:19] Speaker 2: more to the point, will there be an sec Heisman
[54:22] Speaker 2: finalist quarterback not named Arch Manning or Trinidad Chambliss. So
[54:26] Speaker 2: we had some other ones here that I don't think
[54:27] Speaker 2: we have time to get through today.
[54:29] Speaker 5: But Goner Stockton takes New York.
[54:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, man, hold on, hold on the stock market.
[54:35] Speaker 3: Oh right, not bad.
[54:36] Speaker 1: I missed. I missed on that one. It would have
[54:38] Speaker 1: been perfect.
[54:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, Gunner Stockton rings the bill, Yeah, of course, stock exchange.
