We’re back for Part 2 of our May Q&A, which means the offseason conversation gets both bigger and weirder. We start off with College Football Playoff expansion anxiety, including the possibility of a 24-team field, the future of conference championship games, and the growing gap between the people running the sport and the fans who love it. We discuss the new marriage between Michigan State and Pat Fitzgerald, which leads us into a broader conversation about safe hires, risky hires, Transfer Portal recruiting, and what it actually means to rebuild in the modern Big Ten. We also touch on Texas, Arch Manning, Steve Sarkisian, Florida State, Mike Norvell, and the kinds of expectations that can turn a normal season into a referendum. We also spend some time on the quarterback and offensive coordinator pairings we’re most curious to watch, with stops at places like Georgia Tech, UCLA, Florida, Kentucky, and a few others. Which combinations are actually exciting? Which ones feel volatile? Which ones have the widest range of possible outcomes? And because it’s an offseason Q&A, we find room for the important stuff: wearing your team’s gear when things are bleak, whether video podcasts have raised the appearance bar, and Dan’s surprisingly spicy take on wearing sneakers with suits. [0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal call for me.
[0:06] Speaker 2: I'm a man, I'm forty. I've heard so many players say, well,
[0:09] Speaker 2: I want to be happy. You want to be happy
[0:11] Speaker 2: for a day? Edith State is that? Whoo whoom and
[0:15] Speaker 2: Dan and tie.
[0:18] Speaker 1: Dan Rubinstein, the people should know that you were practicing
[0:22] Speaker 1: an Australian accent shortly before we hit go on this today.
[0:26] Speaker 2: I'm all in on callin from accounts. I am I'm
[0:30] Speaker 2: fourteen episodes into. I think there have been sixteen episodes,
[0:34] Speaker 2: two seasons worth Australian show calling from accounts. I oh no,
[0:38] Speaker 2: I'm bad. Actually, thank you. I'm a big, big fan
[0:43] Speaker 2: of this show. I think season two was like twenty
[0:45] Speaker 2: twenty four, and they're doing season three like they're producing
[0:48] Speaker 2: season three right now. Okay, so the channel light or
[0:50] Speaker 2: what thing is it on? Well, it's Foxtel, it's an
[0:54] Speaker 2: Australian network. I think it's on Paramount Plus streaming here. Okay,
[0:58] Speaker 2: really really good and highly recommend it. It's a lightish,
[1:02] Speaker 2: rom com ish, yuppie ish Australian fun show. Really good.
[1:08] Speaker 1: I'm glad that you could do an accent. I can't
[1:10] Speaker 1: do any accents. I can't do it. Kate makes fun
[1:13] Speaker 1: of me whenever I try. I'm horrible at it.
[1:15] Speaker 2: Okay, well, look we all have our strengths. Ty, I'm
[1:17] Speaker 2: still looking for mine, and you have a ton You're
[1:21] Speaker 2: You're all over the place time, very complimentary.
[1:24] Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I appreciate the Verballer hood. I know
[1:27] Speaker 1: you do as well. Thank you to all for stopping
[1:30] Speaker 1: on by. We did part one of the make Q
[1:33] Speaker 1: and a episode back on Tuesday. Today, this being Thursday,
[1:38] Speaker 1: it is time for part day. Had a long list
[1:42] Speaker 1: of questions that came in via the Patreon at Verballers
[1:46] Speaker 1: dot com. We had a few others that filtered in
[1:49] Speaker 1: through alternate means. Are going to do our best here
[1:51] Speaker 1: to get through as many of those as we can
[1:54] Speaker 1: over the next hour, hour and fifteen or so. Again,
[1:59] Speaker 1: follow or subscribe if you want to support what we do,
[2:01] Speaker 1: If you want to check out for Ballers dot com,
[2:03] Speaker 1: we would greatly appreciate that. And if nothing more, if
[2:07] Speaker 1: you've already done all that stuff, please tell your friends.
[2:09] Speaker 1: I know it's the off season, I know there is
[2:12] Speaker 1: an actual football to discuss. We do our best here.
[2:15] Speaker 1: A couple times a week before long, we'll have previews
[2:18] Speaker 1: we'll actually have stuff to discuss, but for now we're
[2:21] Speaker 1: doing our part to just slog it through the off season. Man,
[2:24] Speaker 1: these are the most.
[2:25] Speaker 2: Move I agree. The move is to be very selective
[2:29] Speaker 2: about not just who you tell about the show, but
[2:32] Speaker 2: when you tell them. Don't tell them during a break
[2:35] Speaker 2: at the office or lunch or something like that. Tell
[2:38] Speaker 2: them before a commute, before a road trip, before a flight,
[2:43] Speaker 2: you know, or reference it after just having listened to
[2:46] Speaker 2: it on a commute, like listen to the new solid
[2:49] Speaker 2: verbal on our way here. To want to say it
[2:52] Speaker 2: just like that, you have to say it like ties
[2:54] Speaker 2: pseudo radio voice, solid verbal, solid verbal, and that's that,
[3:00] Speaker 2: I think is the opportune moment. So yes, thank you
[3:03] Speaker 2: for everybody for supporting the show. We've got a lot
[3:04] Speaker 2: of questions to get to and we are going to
[3:07] Speaker 2: show off TI's sterling personality to.
[3:09] Speaker 1: That's right, let's do it. Dan, Congratulations, Skippy, you've got mail.
[3:13] Speaker 2: You've got mail on the Solid ruble.
[3:16] Speaker 1: As often as we can, sometimes twice a month here
[3:19] Speaker 1: during the off season, we like to pay homage to
[3:23] Speaker 1: the fine for baller hood and the folks that send
[3:26] Speaker 1: in questions. I'm going to start with one here. I'm
[3:30] Speaker 1: actually not sure what the deal is with this question
[3:34] Speaker 1: because it popped up in our email. Yeah, and then
[3:38] Speaker 1: I clicked through to see it on Patreon and it disappeared,
[3:43] Speaker 1: picked up and vanished like a fart in the wind.
[3:45] Speaker 2: Okay, I'm ready for it.
[3:48] Speaker 1: So I'm thinking this is averballer who posted it deleted
[3:52] Speaker 1: it maybe didn't want to put their name to it,
[3:54] Speaker 1: but I thought it was extremely thoughtful, so I'm not
[3:57] Speaker 1: going to use their name. Here's the question. With the
[4:02] Speaker 1: recent news of the AFCA, that's the Coaches Association voting
[4:08] Speaker 1: to recommend the expansion of the college football Playoff to
[4:11] Speaker 1: twenty four teams. I am so disheartened and disappointed with
[4:15] Speaker 1: this sport and am going to check out entirely once
[4:20] Speaker 1: this monstrosity goes into effect. I would add, just before
[4:23] Speaker 1: I go any further, please continue to download the solid verbal. Yes,
[4:29] Speaker 1: get a little radio voice free dam please continue downloading
[4:31] Speaker 1: you if you don't watch the games, we would appreciate that.
[4:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, set it to play on an iPad, maybe at night,
[4:37] Speaker 2: over and over again while you're sleeping, maybe in a
[4:40] Speaker 2: different room, and just we don't need you to actively listen.
[4:44] Speaker 2: We would prefer it. But if you're not going to
[4:45] Speaker 2: actively listen, set it to play on a device that
[4:48] Speaker 2: you're not currently using, and hopefully just you know, subscribe
[4:52] Speaker 2: and you know, replay everything all the time.
[4:53] Speaker 1: We would appreciate that greatly. Yes, but yeah, let me continue, please.
[4:58] Speaker 1: I have already given up on the EA sport it's
[5:00] Speaker 1: video game, even though I purchase College Football twenty five
[5:03] Speaker 1: after waiting eleven years, even bought a new console just
[5:05] Speaker 1: to play the game. Sounds a lot like Dan Rubinstein
[5:07] Speaker 1: right here, but this potential expansion of the playoffs from
[5:13] Speaker 1: four teams in twenty twenty three to possibly twenty four
[5:15] Speaker 1: and twenty twenty seven is just outrageous. Do you guys
[5:19] Speaker 1: believe that a significant portion of college football fan bases
[5:23] Speaker 1: will just walk away from the sport if it continues
[5:27] Speaker 1: on this trajectory. This is a sport that I have
[5:30] Speaker 1: loved for twenty years. Although the sport continues to have
[5:33] Speaker 1: a twelve game regular season, the proposed elimination of conference
[5:36] Speaker 1: championship games and expansion to twenty four teams is ruining
[5:40] Speaker 1: the pageantry and tradition of the regular season, culminating in
[5:45] Speaker 1: a national champion. Dan okay A lot to unpack. The
[5:50] Speaker 1: main question, though, do you believe Dan Rubinstein that a
[5:55] Speaker 1: significant portion of the fan base is gonna up and
[5:59] Speaker 1: leave the sport if they do expand it to twenty
[6:02] Speaker 1: four and if the regular season I guess the feel
[6:06] Speaker 1: the vibe of the regular season changes as a result.
[6:10] Speaker 2: I have no idea. Look, so I know that there
[6:12] Speaker 2: will be people who are turned off, and I know
[6:15] Speaker 2: that there are doomers out there who don't want to
[6:17] Speaker 2: be dumers. Right. They're not saying I don't like college
[6:20] Speaker 2: football anymore in the present, but I'm worried about how
[6:23] Speaker 2: I will feel moving forward, and I think a lot
[6:26] Speaker 2: of us. Look, if you're looking at the collective group
[6:29] Speaker 2: of college football fans collectively, an overwhelming majority did not
[6:34] Speaker 2: watch the sport thinking that their team had a legit
[6:37] Speaker 2: shot at winning a national championship in any given season.
[6:40] Speaker 2: Right if you were to take however, many dozens of
[6:43] Speaker 2: millions of people are super into college football. They're into
[6:46] Speaker 2: it for all sorts of reasons, but they're only you know, whatever,
[6:49] Speaker 2: it is six to eight fan bases any given season
[6:51] Speaker 2: that legit have a shot or appear to have a shot.
[6:54] Speaker 2: Halfway through the season, people continue to watch, and so
[6:58] Speaker 2: I've never believed that the idea of a national championship
[7:02] Speaker 2: is why people watch this sport. I think there is
[7:05] Speaker 2: there is going to be natural interest that has grown
[7:08] Speaker 2: from having more access to this specific kind of postseason
[7:12] Speaker 2: for how long I don't know. But you're basically saying,
[7:17] Speaker 2: is the idea of a college football postseason part of
[7:21] Speaker 2: the bedrock for why people love this sports?
[7:24] Speaker 1: I would say no.
[7:26] Speaker 2: I think no as well. Yeah, now I think there
[7:29] Speaker 2: are people who are understandably, understandably put off by the
[7:34] Speaker 2: idea of a grown playoff like this. I am, but
[7:39] Speaker 2: I do this if you can believe it professionally, and
[7:42] Speaker 2: so I have to really think about how I feel
[7:44] Speaker 2: about these things and try to voice an opinion all
[7:47] Speaker 2: the time. And so for me, I've always been interested
[7:50] Speaker 2: in national college football. I've always been interested in how
[7:53] Speaker 2: the sport changes and evolves or whatever. But we've also
[7:56] Speaker 2: reached a point this is twenty twenty six, yes correct,
[7:59] Speaker 2: where we keep iterating the postseason and whoever sent this
[8:03] Speaker 2: email is still here. We keep changing up conferences, be
[8:08] Speaker 2: it major, mid major, minor whatever, email or poster still here.
[8:15] Speaker 2: We've changed how players can or can't move around. The
[8:18] Speaker 2: sport still here. We've changed how players can or can't
[8:23] Speaker 2: get paid. I speak English there I may have drifted
[8:27] Speaker 2: into can or cannot whatever get paid. Messager is still here.
[8:32] Speaker 2: We've changed TV networks, We've changed that it's not just
[8:36] Speaker 2: watching TV, it's going to streaming platforms and streaming exclusive
[8:41] Speaker 2: that you can only watch your team on Peacock or
[8:42] Speaker 2: you can only watch your team on ESBN plus certain weeks.
[8:46] Speaker 2: The sender is still here. Point being, all this sport
[8:51] Speaker 2: does is change all the time, and all the fans
[8:54] Speaker 2: have to do is make calculations and judgments about whether
[8:58] Speaker 2: or not the sport is still worth watching and believing in.
[9:03] Speaker 2: This is early May twenty twenty six, and the center
[9:06] Speaker 2: is still here. So I understand the dumerism, but there
[9:11] Speaker 2: is still the core of college football seems to be
[9:16] Speaker 2: relatively intact. We can do an episode in a couple
[9:18] Speaker 2: weeks next week whatever about like all the incredible things
[9:21] Speaker 2: that are currently happening in college football, just to counter
[9:25] Speaker 2: the scales of justice whatever that seem to be in
[9:28] Speaker 2: the air right now, because we're all bored. It's May.
[9:31] Speaker 2: But there is something about just waiting and waiting to
[9:38] Speaker 2: see how it plays out. I think we have an
[9:42] Speaker 2: idea that there are certain things that are going to
[9:44] Speaker 2: be difficult to swallow, and whether that's a new schedule,
[9:48] Speaker 2: whether that's a change to conference championships or conference quarterfinals
[9:53] Speaker 2: or however they're going to do play ins for at larges,
[9:57] Speaker 2: sport is defined by change. Is ever been a static sport.
[10:01] Speaker 2: It's not ever been a stable sport. So yeah, I
[10:05] Speaker 2: think the idea of ending the season in like January
[10:10] Speaker 2: twenty eighth, that's insane, Like there should be serious conversations
[10:15] Speaker 2: about how to more efficiently navigate a calendar. Well, I
[10:20] Speaker 2: think is to that point.
[10:21] Speaker 1: One of the things that the coaches voted on, in
[10:24] Speaker 1: addition to an expanded field, was holding the national championship
[10:30] Speaker 1: I think the second week of January, So part of
[10:33] Speaker 1: what they're approving now, whether it goes into effect or not,
[10:36] Speaker 1: that's a whole lot that works backwards from there, right,
[10:38] Speaker 1: But whether that happens would would be I think people
[10:41] Speaker 1: would be in favor of that. I know we'd be
[10:43] Speaker 1: in favor of that, yeah, and it sounds like the
[10:45] Speaker 1: coaches would as well. The calendar bloat is like a
[10:48] Speaker 1: whole other thing that could be its own episode for sure.
[10:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, let's be incredibly clear, right we should
[10:53] Speaker 2: always like set like the appropriate parameters. Ty and I
[10:58] Speaker 2: root for advantage teams, Tin, I root for teams that
[11:02] Speaker 2: I mean maybe Penn State aside for right now, but
[11:05] Speaker 2: we root four teams that have the money, that have
[11:07] Speaker 2: the status, that have the prestige, that have the platform,
[11:10] Speaker 2: that have the expectations of being top six teams every season,
[11:14] Speaker 2: top eight teams, top ten teams every season. So it's
[11:18] Speaker 2: more difficult for us to be doomers because we are
[11:20] Speaker 2: rooting for the advantage. We follow the advantaged, and so
[11:23] Speaker 2: we can't empathize with San Jose State fans. We can't
[11:28] Speaker 2: empathize with Kentucky fans or you know, take your pick
[11:34] Speaker 2: of ACC or Big twelve who maybe a certain point
[11:36] Speaker 2: felt like their team was going to be left behind
[11:38] Speaker 2: in the sports, leaving them behind. But hypothetically this allows
[11:43] Speaker 2: for more access, right a twenty fourteen playoff. I'm just
[11:47] Speaker 2: trying to play devil's advocate, because I am not an
[11:48] Speaker 2: advocate now of a twenty fourteen playoff. I think it's
[11:52] Speaker 2: ridiculous and stupid, but I can in good conscience say
[11:56] Speaker 2: this is going to ruin the sport because every time
[11:59] Speaker 2: the sport dramatic changes, people stay or more people grow
[12:03] Speaker 2: interested in how things are operating. Right, I think that
[12:07] Speaker 2: the smartest thing the sport can do is what you
[12:09] Speaker 2: alluded to, and that is to shrink everything into a
[12:15] Speaker 2: late August to early January calendar and decide how it
[12:18] Speaker 2: wants to go about its competition from there.
[12:22] Speaker 1: I don't know what form this expanded playoff is going
[12:26] Speaker 1: to take, because they're talking about switching up conference championship
[12:31] Speaker 1: week into in effect, an at large play in bracket,
[12:36] Speaker 1: which I don't like. I can only kind of conceptualize
[12:40] Speaker 1: what that looks like. Certainly it would make for interesting
[12:42] Speaker 1: fodder on the podcast. What the ramifications would be otherwise
[12:48] Speaker 1: that's for another conversation. But I have a couple thoughts
[12:53] Speaker 1: here on this. Okay, how are you on boats?
[13:01] Speaker 2: Like? How does my stomach do? How is my inner ear?
[13:04] Speaker 2: Or do I just enjoy it as a pastime? Do
[13:07] Speaker 2: you get seasick? I think I've gotten csick once while
[13:10] Speaker 2: well watching, but otherwise I've been fine.
[13:12] Speaker 1: So one thing they tell you to avoid getting seasick
[13:16] Speaker 1: is not to look down at.
[13:17] Speaker 2: The water, right, but look out of the horizon.
[13:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, right, I think the opposite is true right
[13:23] Speaker 1: now for college football. I think if and maybe this
[13:27] Speaker 1: is because we're in early May, maybe it's just in general,
[13:33] Speaker 1: if you look out at the horizon of college football,
[13:36] Speaker 1: at where college football is going, survey the landscape, you're
[13:40] Speaker 1: going to end up puking over the side of the boat.
[13:44] Speaker 1: And I think that's true across the board, probably even
[13:46] Speaker 1: the people who are involved in the process. You're not
[13:48] Speaker 1: going to see anything good out there, or anything that
[13:51] Speaker 1: looks familiar out there, something that gives you comfort. But
[13:55] Speaker 1: if you do look down at the ripples, if you
[13:58] Speaker 1: look at those games in week seven, when all hell
[14:02] Speaker 1: breaks loose, that's never not gonna be special. Like the
[14:07] Speaker 1: product on any given Saturday is still pretty good. I
[14:11] Speaker 1: would encourage people to go out there and buy Bill
[14:13] Speaker 1: Connolly's book, Forward Progress. We had him on months ago
[14:16] Speaker 1: to talk about it. But one of the things that
[14:20] Speaker 1: he brings up in some of his skepticism about where
[14:23] Speaker 1: he feels the sport is headed is that ultimately, because
[14:27] Speaker 1: that product on Saturdays is still so great, ultimately college
[14:33] Speaker 1: football is unkillable, you know what I mean.
[14:37] Speaker 2: I do, And there are going to be certain benchmarks
[14:42] Speaker 2: to decide whether or not the sport is heading in
[14:44] Speaker 2: the right direction. Obviously, with the sports quote unquote the
[14:48] Speaker 2: sport handing over its power to TV networks, it means
[14:52] Speaker 2: TV ratings are extremely important.
[14:54] Speaker 1: That's sure, though exists outside the bubble of a totally
[14:58] Speaker 1: week seven Saturday. And so your earlier point, just using
[15:03] Speaker 1: week seven as an example, that is why we watch
[15:07] Speaker 1: right and so long as that's unkillable. To Bill's point
[15:12] Speaker 1: in his book, Forward Progress, go and get it, I'll
[15:14] Speaker 1: link it up in the description. That's why I don't
[15:17] Speaker 1: think there's ever going to be any kind of mass exodus,
[15:20] Speaker 1: because Saturdays are still sacred. Even if the consequences of
[15:24] Speaker 1: losing in week seven aren't quite as deep as they
[15:27] Speaker 1: used to be, you're still going to have that if
[15:30] Speaker 1: you put the blinders on, and if you focus on
[15:32] Speaker 1: it week to week, what goes on around almost doesn't matter.
[15:36] Speaker 1: So the only okay, nothing is unkillable. Everything is killable.
[15:41] Speaker 1: We've seen sports really take hits. We've seen different forms
[15:45] Speaker 1: of entertainment take hits because consumers are treated poorly, and
[15:51] Speaker 1: we've seen that right that, we've seen that it's harder
[15:54] Speaker 1: to root for a disadvantaged team. It's more difficult to
[15:58] Speaker 1: get on board with going to see your team play
[16:02] Speaker 1: in eight pm Eastern games if you have a three
[16:06] Speaker 1: hour drive and they keep booking those games that late
[16:09] Speaker 1: for TV windows or extra early games. Right, it's hard
[16:12] Speaker 1: to get to Columbus, Ohio if you live, you know,
[16:15] Speaker 1: three or four hours away by the time Big Noon
[16:17] Speaker 1: kicks off because they keep sticking you at Big Noon.
[16:20] Speaker 1: And so there are different things that are going to
[16:22] Speaker 1: alter people's enjoyments and affect people's enjoyment of the sport.
[16:27] Speaker 1: I think it's going to be an aggregate of too
[16:29] Speaker 1: many things that that sort of push people away. But
[16:36] Speaker 1: it's also to be honest, it's a very easy thing
[16:40] Speaker 1: to consume. You can do it on your phone, you
[16:42] Speaker 1: can do it on your couch, you can do it
[16:44] Speaker 1: in person. You can do it after the fact watching it.
[16:46] Speaker 1: So TVR it once a week, it's once a week,
[16:49] Speaker 1: it's once.
[16:49] Speaker 2: They're not asking a ton of you. You don't have
[16:52] Speaker 2: to subscribe to your local team paid subscription recruiting service, right,
[16:58] Speaker 2: you don't have to do that to enjoy No Tennessee
[17:00] Speaker 2: football or Oklahoma State football. You want to watch an
[17:04] Speaker 2: entertaining product feel like your team cares and has a
[17:07] Speaker 2: chance and kind of go from there.
[17:11] Speaker 1: Well, And that's the point. That is the point that
[17:14] Speaker 1: I think belies all of this. Being a college football
[17:20] Speaker 1: fan in twenty twenty six absolutely positively requires a lot
[17:25] Speaker 1: of cognitive dissonance. Of course, it just does. And I
[17:30] Speaker 1: think if you want to stay in the game, you
[17:32] Speaker 1: got to focus on the part of the game that
[17:35] Speaker 1: attracts us all that we're all still very into, and
[17:37] Speaker 1: that is the season. Don't worry about what's going on
[17:40] Speaker 1: on the business side. We can deal with that when
[17:43] Speaker 1: it comes about. If it comes about how it changes
[17:45] Speaker 1: the game. I don't believe at this point. Maybe I'll
[17:48] Speaker 1: change my mind that there's going to be any kind
[17:51] Speaker 1: of mass exitus if they expand this. I would also
[17:54] Speaker 1: not be very happy about that. I think despite the
[17:57] Speaker 1: fact you and I have disagreed over the years on
[17:59] Speaker 1: what the postseason should look like, what the ultimate goal
[18:01] Speaker 1: of the season should be, neither one of us really
[18:05] Speaker 1: wants them to go up to twenty four. For a
[18:07] Speaker 1: long time, sixteen has been my absolute limit, no more
[18:11] Speaker 1: than that. So I don't like the shape of this conversation.
[18:15] Speaker 1: And I would also add there is a huge disconnect
[18:21] Speaker 1: right now between the people running the sport and the
[18:23] Speaker 1: people watching the sport, you know, the people listening to
[18:26] Speaker 1: this show. Right now, the gap between those two entities
[18:31] Speaker 1: has never been larger. And I don't care what you're into.
[18:35] Speaker 1: It can be business, it can be relationships, it could
[18:38] Speaker 1: be sports, it could be politics, whatever you're into. Whenever
[18:42] Speaker 1: you've got that big a gap between the decision makers
[18:45] Speaker 1: and the consumers, that's generally not a good thing. And
[18:48] Speaker 1: so what happens from here, what happens as a result
[18:51] Speaker 1: of that, is truly anyone's guess. But I think so
[18:54] Speaker 1: long as they are not totally destroying the experience on
[18:57] Speaker 1: a Saturday. To the question, I don't think we're going
[19:01] Speaker 1: to see any kind of mass exodus.
[19:03] Speaker 2: I certainly here.
[19:03] Speaker 1: It's not because this is our business.
[19:06] Speaker 2: Here is how I would parse that, though. I don't
[19:09] Speaker 2: think we're going to see as crazy an exodus no
[19:12] Speaker 2: matter what the powers that be try to do. What
[19:16] Speaker 2: I would think I would be more concerned about is
[19:19] Speaker 2: the adoption of college football fandom from a nineteen year old,
[19:22] Speaker 2: from a thirteen year old, from an eight year old.
[19:25] Speaker 2: That's where I would be more concerned because there's so
[19:28] Speaker 2: much competition. It's look, you're not dealing with, you know,
[19:32] Speaker 2: a kid or a teenager or a young adult who
[19:35] Speaker 2: has baggage because they weren't around for the BCS, they
[19:38] Speaker 2: weren't around for a fourteen playoff, they weren't around for
[19:41] Speaker 2: you know, declared national champions. So you don't have that
[19:45] Speaker 2: to deal with. What you have to deal with is
[19:48] Speaker 2: college football just keeps complicating itself. So the barrier to
[19:53] Speaker 2: entry to say, like, Okay, what's this college football thing
[19:56] Speaker 2: all about? As a sixteen year old whose mom is
[20:00] Speaker 2: a huge Arizona State fan or something. That's where it
[20:03] Speaker 2: becomes more difficult, because the barrier to say like, okay, well,
[20:06] Speaker 2: here's prep recruiting, here's portal recruiting, here's nil, here's realignment,
[20:10] Speaker 2: here's how the postseason changes all the time. That's when
[20:13] Speaker 2: you're just like, I get that these washed podcast hosts
[20:18] Speaker 2: in their you know, late thirties, early forties in my case,
[20:23] Speaker 2: like that it's sort of difficult and niche and specific.
[20:27] Speaker 2: There is something cool about that. I will always admit that, right,
[20:31] Speaker 2: there's something cool about having a hobby that is kind
[20:35] Speaker 2: of difficult to understand. But once you're in the in group.
[20:38] Speaker 2: It's like kind of wild to follow it all and
[20:41] Speaker 2: track how it's growing or changing. Yeah, but again, if
[20:45] Speaker 2: you're sixteen year old Jaden or Kelly Ann, I don't
[20:51] Speaker 2: know what current names are, right, there's you've seen those
[20:54] Speaker 2: the memes of women eliminating names and it's all eigh
[21:00] Speaker 2: for the girls stuff. I don't know what. I don't
[21:02] Speaker 2: know what kids are dying these days.
[21:03] Speaker 1: That's not my algorithm, man, I'm sorry.
[21:05] Speaker 2: My kids have names that make it so that they
[21:07] Speaker 2: could like own a diner someday, right, that they have
[21:10] Speaker 2: diner names. But that would be my concern that you
[21:14] Speaker 2: are not making this an accessible sport, given how much
[21:18] Speaker 2: entertainment competition there is for people who might want to
[21:22] Speaker 2: be into it moving forward, when the NFL is so
[21:26] Speaker 2: much easier see any fifteen years.
[21:28] Speaker 1: I just think it's it's harder to stay a fan
[21:31] Speaker 1: than it is to become a new fan. Of course,
[21:34] Speaker 1: is the circumstance that you're describing, right, Because a sixteen
[21:38] Speaker 1: year old doesn't have all the baggage. I have a
[21:40] Speaker 1: fourteen year old nephew who is getting into college football.
[21:43] Speaker 1: He doesn't have that scar tissue that you and I
[21:46] Speaker 1: have and he doesn't know any better with respect to
[21:49] Speaker 1: a playoff system. I think the numbers bear out, and
[21:52] Speaker 1: this is probably what some of the decision makers are referencing,
[21:55] Speaker 1: or at least looking at and using to help guide
[21:57] Speaker 1: their decision making when it comes to this. The numbers,
[22:01] Speaker 1: at least in the early part of this twelve team field,
[22:04] Speaker 1: seem to suggest that there are more people coming online
[22:07] Speaker 1: as college football fans. These would truly be what many
[22:11] Speaker 1: would refer to as the casuals. These are diehard fans.
[22:14] Speaker 1: There's people who are casual college football fans who are
[22:18] Speaker 1: wetting the beak a little bit. Not the die hards
[22:20] Speaker 1: per se that listen to a show like this, but
[22:23] Speaker 1: these are just people who sort of pick it up
[22:25] Speaker 1: as they go along. It's on TV. You pick a
[22:28] Speaker 1: team for whatever reason, because somebody in your family likes
[22:31] Speaker 1: a team, or because they're close by, or maybe you
[22:33] Speaker 1: just like the uniforms or a player. I don't know,
[22:35] Speaker 1: but those are the types of folks that I think
[22:39] Speaker 1: the data has shown in the early stages of this
[22:41] Speaker 1: twelve team field are picking up the sport in greater
[22:44] Speaker 1: numbers than before.
[22:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I look, it makes sense. I don't
[22:51] Speaker 2: think the sport cares all that much about tradition in
[22:55] Speaker 2: the way that fans do.
[22:57] Speaker 1: They don't. And that's the golf that I was talking
[22:59] Speaker 1: about out before. Right, this goes much deeper than just
[23:03] Speaker 1: the playoffs. We can go back to conference realignment, and
[23:07] Speaker 1: I'm not talking about this latest wave of conference re alignment,
[23:10] Speaker 1: but the one before it and the one before it. Right,
[23:13] Speaker 1: traditions have definitely fallen by the wayside as a result
[23:17] Speaker 1: of these higher level business discussions, which frankly is when
[23:20] Speaker 1: you lose all of us. Okay, because none of us
[23:23] Speaker 1: got into this because of the business conversations. We got
[23:27] Speaker 1: into it because of the week sevens or because of
[23:30] Speaker 1: family tradition, the pageantry that our question asked our question
[23:36] Speaker 1: asker referenced. We definitely have different goals at the end
[23:42] Speaker 1: of the day.
[23:42] Speaker 2: But but I'll say this once more. I mean not
[23:46] Speaker 2: once more, but I think I've said it in the past,
[23:47] Speaker 2: like the easiest way to turn people off from watching
[23:52] Speaker 2: college football, to really upset them, to drive them away,
[23:56] Speaker 2: to drive them into the arms of a new mistress
[23:59] Speaker 2: on Saturday after noons, I don't know, a bunch of
[24:02] Speaker 2: quarterback injuries and having coaches who don't care and going
[24:04] Speaker 2: to and ten. Right, Like, people have a lot of
[24:08] Speaker 2: may opinions, like if you're a Nebraska fan disenchanted with
[24:13] Speaker 2: Nebraska and the Big ten and Matt Rule getting an
[24:15] Speaker 2: extension and how the whole Dylan Ryola thing played out,
[24:18] Speaker 2: and you're just like, who needs it? And then Anthony
[24:21] Speaker 2: Calandrey is really good, You're like, well, I guess I'll.
[24:23] Speaker 1: Watch right, It's it's not a soft spot for Anthony Calandria.
[24:28] Speaker 1: Dain I really sure, of.
[24:28] Speaker 2: Course, And take your pick right that, Like, the people
[24:32] Speaker 2: who are most turned off from Oklahoma State football were
[24:37] Speaker 2: turned off not because of the Big twelve and it's
[24:40] Speaker 2: changing place in the sport or turned off because of
[24:43] Speaker 2: you know, an expanded playoff in nil and portal stuff.
[24:46] Speaker 2: They were turned off because they don't win games. That's
[24:49] Speaker 2: the easiest way to drive people away. Like if CJ.
[24:52] Speaker 2: Carr is terrible this season, he throws fourteen interceptions in
[24:55] Speaker 2: the first three games, and Marcus Freeman week after week says, no,
[24:58] Speaker 2: that's our guy. No, that's our guy. Ty Hilton Brandt
[25:01] Speaker 2: might not watch as much, right.
[25:05] Speaker 1: All right, Well, thank you for the question whether or
[25:08] Speaker 1: not it was intended for Air. I at least kept
[25:11] Speaker 1: the question asker anonymous here. I thought it was good.
[25:16] Speaker 1: Let's move on to this one from Tyler. Can y'all
[25:21] Speaker 1: help me figure out the logic of Michigan State hiring
[25:24] Speaker 1: Pat Fitzgerald? Okay, well, that's another way. I guess you
[25:28] Speaker 1: could drive people away from watching your own team now
[25:31] Speaker 1: hazing scandal aside, if you can put it aside. Fitz
[25:36] Speaker 1: has literally never recruited in the transfer portal. Era, went
[25:39] Speaker 1: four and twenty over the last two seasons at Northwestern
[25:43] Speaker 1: and plays a less than esthetically pleasing brand of football.
[25:46] Speaker 1: I know Jonathan Smith flopped hard in East Lansing, but
[25:51] Speaker 1: this feels like an extreme pivot with a seven and
[25:54] Speaker 1: five ceiling. I am not a Michigan State fans by
[25:57] Speaker 1: not a Michigan State fan by any means, but if
[26:00] Speaker 1: I were, I think I would be extremely uninspired. What
[26:05] Speaker 1: say you, Dan Rubistein, You're a Northwestern country I am.
[26:09] Speaker 1: Are people a flutter about their beloved Pat fits going
[26:13] Speaker 1: to East Lansing?
[26:17] Speaker 2: I can't tell. I don't think people feel anything about that.
[26:19] Speaker 2: People and the general vicinity of Northwestern I think are
[26:22] Speaker 2: just excited to see new Ryan Field. Yeah, I think
[26:25] Speaker 2: they're excited for newly comfortable seating. The answer to this
[26:33] Speaker 2: person's question, I forget the Tyler good name, solid name,
[26:38] Speaker 2: great name, very solid, usually coming off of a disastrous
[26:44] Speaker 2: spell like it, like Michigan State has endured through the
[26:47] Speaker 2: Jonathan Smith era. Usually it's well, what qualities as a
[26:52] Speaker 2: human and as a coach does this candidate have that
[26:56] Speaker 2: we're positive we're not present in our previous administration, a
[27:01] Speaker 2: previous regime. So if you're gonna look at what the
[27:04] Speaker 2: best of Pat Fitzgerald's reputation is, fair or not right,
[27:09] Speaker 2: it's the sort of molder of men, figurehead. You know,
[27:14] Speaker 2: big personality, not big personality in terms of yucks, but
[27:20] Speaker 2: big personality in terms of like, okay, you sort of
[27:22] Speaker 2: know where Pat Fitzgerald stands. You know what his ideal
[27:26] Speaker 2: college team looks like, that they're efficient with the ball
[27:29] Speaker 2: running it, that they develop guys internally over time, whether
[27:33] Speaker 2: usually it's along the offensive or defensive lines or fronts.
[27:37] Speaker 2: You know, he obviously had a great defensive coordinator for
[27:39] Speaker 2: a long time in Mike Hankwitz at Northwestern. So that
[27:41] Speaker 2: was the best of Northwestern football under Pat Fitzgerald. And
[27:47] Speaker 2: it's that you're going to get somebody who impresses donors
[27:51] Speaker 2: that he is a molder of men, and he's he's
[27:54] Speaker 2: a firm handshake, and he's old school, right that Maybe
[27:58] Speaker 2: Jonathan Smith was seen as a little bit to new
[28:00] Speaker 2: school or seen as not having like a big personality
[28:04] Speaker 2: to command respect in the athletic department. Blah blah blah.
[28:07] Speaker 2: So I think the best of Pat Fitzgerald's reputation is
[28:12] Speaker 2: and especially look coming off of the end of Marked Antonio,
[28:15] Speaker 2: coming off of Brief mel Tucker, it's you want stability.
[28:20] Speaker 2: He was at Northwestern forever. He took over Northwestern as
[28:23] Speaker 2: you remember, in very rocky circumstances of the untimely passing
[28:26] Speaker 2: of Randy Walker, as he was a young coach, and
[28:29] Speaker 2: he was able to weather that and stabilize things and
[28:32] Speaker 2: win games with less at Northwestern. Yes, again, the best
[28:37] Speaker 2: of Pat Fitzgerald's reputation. So my thinking is Michigan State
[28:43] Speaker 2: looked at who was available, who was showing interest in
[28:46] Speaker 2: that job, and they thought, well, we don't have to
[28:49] Speaker 2: spend a lot of money to get somebody who very
[28:51] Speaker 2: recently had a good reputation before the reputation went sideways.
[28:57] Speaker 1: Say be careful. I don't.
[28:58] Speaker 2: Northwestern had to pay Fitzgerald a ton of money for
[29:02] Speaker 2: unfairly firing him. I'm just speaking in the legal sense.
[29:06] Speaker 2: Now you're you're right. I know you're right. So he
[29:09] Speaker 2: was cleared legally of responsibility at Northwestern, even though morally
[29:14] Speaker 2: and his reputation have suffered, is you know whatever. So
[29:20] Speaker 2: that's my thinking that he has looked at as more
[29:24] Speaker 2: of a grown up, more of a seasoned hand, more
[29:29] Speaker 2: of again molder of men. As funny as that may sound,
[29:34] Speaker 2: that he had no idea. We're talking in the legal sense.
[29:38] Speaker 2: He had no idea of what was happening behind the scenes.
[29:42] Speaker 2: And he was not found at all to have been
[29:44] Speaker 2: overseeing or to have had knowledge of it. He had
[29:47] Speaker 2: no idea what was going on with his team behind
[29:49] Speaker 2: the scenes. So taking that away, that would be the
[29:53] Speaker 2: best of his reputation. And is what Michigan States saw
[29:56] Speaker 2: on him.
[29:58] Speaker 1: Was there much of a search, like they kind of
[30:01] Speaker 1: just went to fits right away.
[30:04] Speaker 2: That's what That's what it felt like.
[30:05] Speaker 1: It felt like they wanted to make this move. This
[30:09] Speaker 1: wasn't almost a Penn State situation where they felt that
[30:14] Speaker 1: something had run its course and they were going to
[30:17] Speaker 1: conduct an expansive search. It felt like they were more
[30:20] Speaker 1: spearfishing with this one, right, and they knew they wanted
[30:22] Speaker 1: to go out and get fits that I hate this
[30:25] Speaker 1: higher I do. I hate it. I hate it.
[30:27] Speaker 2: I don't like it either.
[30:28] Speaker 1: I hate everything about it. And I think the best
[30:34] Speaker 1: that I can do, Tyler is they looked at Pat
[30:39] Speaker 1: Fitzgerald the way that Penn State, the way that many
[30:43] Speaker 1: have looked at Matt Campbell, and they said, at least
[30:46] Speaker 1: for some period of time, and he was certainly not
[30:48] Speaker 1: as successful as Matt Campbell was an Iowa State. I'm
[30:50] Speaker 1: not saying that, but for some period of time he
[30:54] Speaker 1: was able to do more with far less at Northwestern.
[30:58] Speaker 1: And so if you bring him up to a place
[31:00] Speaker 1: at Michigan State where there's much more of a football
[31:03] Speaker 1: focus than there wasn't Northwestern, and if you give him resources.
[31:06] Speaker 1: By the way, the founder and CEO of Akrasher and
[31:09] Speaker 1: his wife are giving like four hundred million dollars to
[31:13] Speaker 1: Michigan State, a large portion of which it's going to
[31:15] Speaker 1: go towards the athletic budget, right, I could see the
[31:19] Speaker 1: thinking being, if we give this guy more resources, he
[31:23] Speaker 1: can really pop. I can make that case, right, And
[31:27] Speaker 1: I think if you're one of the decision makers, you
[31:30] Speaker 1: can you can sell that to the higher ups, that
[31:34] Speaker 1: this this is a guy who's just waiting to be
[31:36] Speaker 1: given more resources to turn this thing around. I could
[31:39] Speaker 1: see that case. I don't buy that case. I really don't.
[31:44] Speaker 1: I genuinely don't. I don't understand why they would do this.
[31:47] Speaker 1: I think he's a bad higher, and I like every higher.
[31:49] Speaker 1: That's part of my problem. Every year, I love every high.
[31:52] Speaker 1: It's a great hire, what a great not this one?
[31:55] Speaker 2: I think this is this is pretty difficult to justify
[31:59] Speaker 2: from the outset. And look, I was willing to see
[32:03] Speaker 2: the hire and then see his hires and see how
[32:07] Speaker 2: he did or didn't build out his recruiting department and
[32:10] Speaker 2: fill out the roster in the portal. Right, You're like, Okay,
[32:13] Speaker 2: this guy's been away, he's had chance to learn the
[32:16] Speaker 2: modern rhythms of the portal era. I'm nodding at here.
[32:19] Speaker 1: I completely agree with everything.
[32:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, And so you're just like, okay, Like we can
[32:23] Speaker 2: we can see how somebody on that's been somewhere for
[32:26] Speaker 2: so long maybe got a little bit too comfortable and
[32:29] Speaker 2: got a little bit too big on campus. Kind of thing. Right,
[32:32] Speaker 2: he was king of the campus, so maybe he was
[32:35] Speaker 2: humbled a little bit. Maybe he's taken this time to
[32:37] Speaker 2: be like, Okay, this is where you know power football
[32:40] Speaker 2: is heading. This is where savvy defensive minds are going.
[32:45] Speaker 2: This is this is an assistant that I've had my
[32:47] Speaker 2: eye on for a while, or I worked with when
[32:49] Speaker 2: he was a GA, and now I'm bringing in after
[32:51] Speaker 2: he's had so much success at take your pick. None
[32:55] Speaker 2: of that seemed super apparent to me upon seeing his hires,
[33:00] Speaker 2: upon seeing the portal class that was brought in. Because
[33:05] Speaker 2: if you're Michigan State, since Pat Fitzgerald left Northwestern, the
[33:10] Speaker 2: conference has seen what your biggest rival win a national championship,
[33:15] Speaker 2: So all of a sudden, you need to be of
[33:16] Speaker 2: that level. Yep, because Michigan State people want to beat
[33:20] Speaker 2: Michigan every so often or want to be competitive and
[33:24] Speaker 2: put themselves in position to win every so often. You
[33:27] Speaker 2: now have Oregon as a national championship contender in your conference,
[33:32] Speaker 2: USC as a fringe playoff team in your conference. Washington's
[33:35] Speaker 2: been to the playoff a couple times. UCLA is loading
[33:39] Speaker 2: up with a really great recruiting class right now, and
[33:42] Speaker 2: potentially like a great up and coming coach in Bob Chesney.
[33:46] Speaker 2: Will see you're looking at an Indiana program that was
[33:49] Speaker 2: nothing and is now everything as a returning national champion.
[33:54] Speaker 2: We're looking at a Penn State program that's investing once
[33:57] Speaker 2: again heavily and turning this program into a perennial playoff
[34:00] Speaker 2: type team. And Ohio State and whoever I left out,
[34:04] Speaker 2: because there's quality elsewhere in this conference as well to
[34:06] Speaker 2: contend with that. Again, Illinois wasn't always there. Now they're good,
[34:11] Speaker 2: Minnesota is always tricky, Wisconsin used to be good. We'll
[34:15] Speaker 2: see if that ever happens. We'll get back to you
[34:17] Speaker 2: on that one. But this is where Michigan State is
[34:19] Speaker 2: right now that they are trying to build a program
[34:23] Speaker 2: that not just is decent, but like has to measure
[34:27] Speaker 2: itself against a lot in this conference. And so it
[34:32] Speaker 2: just doesn't feel like the kind of swing you would
[34:34] Speaker 2: take if you're really looking to seriously measure yourself against
[34:38] Speaker 2: those types of programs.
[34:40] Speaker 1: I'm stretching here because I just I genuinely don't like this. Yeah,
[34:45] Speaker 1: I just don't. I think this is a stupid higher
[34:49] Speaker 1: and I hope I'm wrong, because I'm not rooting against
[34:51] Speaker 1: Michigan State. I have no reason to root against Michigan State. Frankly,
[34:54] Speaker 1: to get another really good team in the state of
[34:56] Speaker 1: Michigan would be really interesting from our standpoint, just as
[35:00] Speaker 1: we examine narratives, as we talk about the Big Ten,
[35:04] Speaker 1: as we talk about the colleg football landscape, it would
[35:06] Speaker 1: be great to have Michigan State back. But I I mean, look,
[35:11] Speaker 1: you look around the shrugging here, don't I genuinely don't
[35:14] Speaker 1: know what else to add.
[35:15] Speaker 2: I don't like if you if you look at the
[35:17] Speaker 2: savviest thirty five recent hires in the sport, how many
[35:23] Speaker 2: would you come away with saying, you know what, I
[35:25] Speaker 2: thought that was a really nice, safe move that they
[35:28] Speaker 2: made there. I don't think any right, like you look
[35:34] Speaker 2: at the ones that the hires that were wherever, right.
[35:36] Speaker 2: But if it's a coordinator being promoted internally, if it's
[35:39] Speaker 2: a school hiring a different teams coordinator, if it's a
[35:42] Speaker 2: school saying we're gonna spend a ton of money to
[35:44] Speaker 2: bring Lincoln Riley over, Brian Kelly over, or Lane Kiffin
[35:49] Speaker 2: from Ole Miss to LSU, you can't consider any of
[35:52] Speaker 2: those to be safe, even if they don't work out.
[35:55] Speaker 2: The programs who are making the best hires. Maybe it's
[35:59] Speaker 2: not Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly, whatever, But it wasn't
[36:03] Speaker 2: USC saying we're going to hire Jack del Rio, Right,
[36:10] Speaker 2: it wasn't that.
[36:11] Speaker 1: I remember when he was in the conversation for USC
[36:13] Speaker 1: jobs Jack, I remember, right, same reaction. Then.
[36:17] Speaker 2: It wasn't that, though, Like Clemson had a ton of
[36:20] Speaker 2: success because they made a risky hire on a position
[36:24] Speaker 2: coach who was an interim head coach, and they said
[36:26] Speaker 2: we're going to take the interim tag off of you,
[36:28] Speaker 2: Like they're just there needs to be either a big
[36:30] Speaker 2: financial or professional swing involved, and we're not getting either. No. Man,
[36:38] Speaker 2: that guy for Notre Dame, Yeah, it was the guy
[36:41] Speaker 2: who is that like fallback safe.
[36:43] Speaker 1: Oh, it was always Tom Clements. Sure, it was always
[36:47] Speaker 1: Tom Clemens, who was a quarterback coach the NFL. And
[36:52] Speaker 1: he's in his seventies now. I don't think if there's
[36:54] Speaker 1: an opening he's gonna come up for the next round
[36:57] Speaker 1: for Notre Dame, if there is one anytime soon. But
[36:59] Speaker 1: that was always He's a dude. It's like, well, you know,
[37:01] Speaker 1: everyone's sleeping on Tom Clements, but he could be a
[37:04] Speaker 1: really good heart, like just Justin will stops, please stop.
[37:09] Speaker 2: That was like the Justin Wilcox smoke before Dan Lanning
[37:12] Speaker 2: was at Oregon, where like all the older players were like,
[37:15] Speaker 2: we're sick of all these guys leaving. Let's hire Justin
[37:18] Speaker 2: Wilcox because he won't leave because he's from Eugene and
[37:21] Speaker 2: played for Oregon and he has ties to the West Coast.
[37:25] Speaker 2: And we're so sick of Willie Taggart and Mario Cristo
[37:27] Speaker 2: Ball and Chip Kelly leaving that let's go with somebody
[37:31] Speaker 2: that can be like dependable, dependable. That's dependable Holiday Bowl,
[37:35] Speaker 2: by the way, right, So that's that a lot of
[37:40] Speaker 2: I mean every school probably has that that name. But
[37:45] Speaker 2: that's that's the problem is you're just like man like
[37:48] Speaker 2: even Michigan, Michigan taking a swing on an older coach,
[37:51] Speaker 2: but a coach has had a ton of success but
[37:53] Speaker 2: with no ties to the school in Kyle Whittingham, but
[37:57] Speaker 2: at least has had.
[37:58] Speaker 1: Recent success, you know, has been dependable recently in the
[38:02] Speaker 1: modern era of college football. I mean, we could argue
[38:05] Speaker 1: whether or not he has reached his full potential or
[38:08] Speaker 1: his teams have reached their full potential, but there's no
[38:11] Speaker 1: denying that WIT's been pretty good recently. You can't say
[38:14] Speaker 1: that for fits. He just hasn't.
[38:17] Speaker 2: No, Look, will Stein may not work out at Kentucky, right,
[38:22] Speaker 2: all of these new Alex golesh may not work out
[38:24] Speaker 2: at Auburn. John Sumral may not work out at Florida.
[38:27] Speaker 2: But it wasn't them Going back to like, well, this
[38:31] Speaker 2: guy seems like he knows how to hire good the
[38:36] Speaker 2: leader of men. Yeah, I hate that.
[38:39] Speaker 1: All right, next question here, next, let's go in a
[38:44] Speaker 1: little bit of a different direction with this. All right,
[38:47] Speaker 1: this one comes in from Chaka.
[38:48] Speaker 2: What of Chaka nice? Long time, long time, need.
[38:52] Speaker 1: To get his take on the state of Kentucky football,
[38:55] Speaker 1: how he feels about Kenny Minshee. Sure, and perhaps that
[38:58] Speaker 1: is the root of this question. Which new coach slash
[39:03] Speaker 1: quarterback combination are you excited to watch this coming season?
[39:08] Speaker 1: So I bring up Kentucky obviously Stein Kenny Minshee could
[39:11] Speaker 1: be an answer.
[39:12] Speaker 2: Cap Yeah, I'm excited for that.
[39:14] Speaker 1: As a notre damer Alberto Mendoza for me, Oh, I
[39:20] Speaker 1: like this one.
[39:21] Speaker 2: Continue.
[39:22] Speaker 1: So I don't know if Chaka is asking for both
[39:25] Speaker 1: new coach and new quarterback. I guess there's a new
[39:29] Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, so maybe we can count it here. But
[39:32] Speaker 1: you know, there was so much fanfare over the way
[39:35] Speaker 1: things went for his brother Fernando that it's kind of
[39:38] Speaker 1: hard to answer anything other than Alberto. I'm real curious
[39:42] Speaker 1: to see if Alberto can get anywhere close to what
[39:46] Speaker 1: we saw from Fernando. Right, it seems as though the
[39:50] Speaker 1: early returns have been there. There's been nothing but high
[39:54] Speaker 1: praise for Alberta Mendoza thus far in his time in Atlanta,
[39:58] Speaker 1: So clearly they need a guy, right they they lose
[40:02] Speaker 1: Haynes King, Aaron Filo goes down to Florida with Buster Faulkner,
[40:06] Speaker 1: which maybe could be an answer as well. We can
[40:08] Speaker 1: talk about that if we want to. But for me,
[40:11] Speaker 1: just with all the fanfare around Fernando Mendoza, we got
[40:15] Speaker 1: to see where this goes with now his younger brother.
[40:19] Speaker 2: Agree, I think. I mean, look, they're all over the place.
[40:21] Speaker 2: This is sort of the beauty of the sport that
[40:23] Speaker 2: there is so much movement so that you do get
[40:26] Speaker 2: situations you're like, that could be an interesting pairing. I mean,
[40:29] Speaker 2: like Bryce Underwood and Jason beckslash Kyle Whittingham. I'm not
[40:33] Speaker 2: super enthused given Kyle Whittingham's history.
[40:37] Speaker 1: Spring football wring don't look at the style life, but.
[40:42] Speaker 2: You know it's you know, it's an exciting offense in
[40:44] Speaker 2: our unexciting offensive situation. When a lot of the stories
[40:47] Speaker 2: are like this new running back can break a bunch
[40:49] Speaker 2: of tackles. He's a freshman, and he already looks like
[40:52] Speaker 2: he's a Like, oh, that's that's good for the running
[40:55] Speaker 2: game and for him in an experienced offensive line, but
[40:57] Speaker 2: doesn't say a lot for the potential fireworks of the offense. Now.
[41:02] Speaker 2: I don't know. Obviously it's not a new pairing, but
[41:04] Speaker 2: it's at a new place. And Eric Morrison drew mess
[41:06] Speaker 2: to maker. I think that's a good answer, even though
[41:08] Speaker 2: they're not being paired together for the first time. I
[41:14] Speaker 2: think Lane Kiffin and Sam Levitt, like Lane Kiffin basically
[41:18] Speaker 2: only gets success out of his quarterbacks and Sam Levitt
[41:21] Speaker 2: if he's healthy, with which should be good receivers, a
[41:23] Speaker 2: good tight end, probably an improved running game. I mean,
[41:26] Speaker 2: it kind of can only improve sam Levitt with like
[41:29] Speaker 2: the at the health asterisk, I think is an obvious
[41:33] Speaker 2: answer there of the guys that have not been together lately,
[41:38] Speaker 2: because you can obviously like Byron Brown and Alex Golish
[41:40] Speaker 2: and stuff at Auburn. But that's that's not new. There's
[41:43] Speaker 2: not a meat cute involved in a lot of these situations,
[41:47] Speaker 2: Like you know, Buster Faukner has met Aaron Filo. But yeah,
[41:51] Speaker 2: it's George Godsee that's the new OC for Georgia Tech
[41:55] Speaker 2: and not an internal hire for for a for Georgia Tech.
[42:01] Speaker 2: It's another internal hire. But Dante Moore Andrew Mehringer Marringer,
[42:06] Speaker 2: I'm just curious what his take on this offense, his
[42:09] Speaker 2: wrinkles are going to be. But again, that's not really
[42:12] Speaker 2: the spirit of this question. Here no Aiden Childs and
[42:16] Speaker 2: Chip Kelly.
[42:17] Speaker 1: Here we go.
[42:18] Speaker 2: It's got high floor or excuse me, high ceiling, low floor,
[42:24] Speaker 2: nothing in between written all over it.
[42:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say this is. When you go
[42:28] Speaker 1: to the Thai restaurant, you either get Spice level zero
[42:32] Speaker 1: or Spice level four. Sure you get one or the other.
[42:35] Speaker 1: We don't know which one yet, but I am also intrigued.
[42:38] Speaker 2: I'm also pretty sure that the Northwestern Receiver room might
[42:44] Speaker 2: look like you and I sitting in a pizzeria. It
[42:47] Speaker 2: might just be a bunch of dudes between five ten
[42:51] Speaker 2: and six to one, one hundred and seventy three pounds
[42:53] Speaker 2: something like that. So I don't know exactly what Northwestern's
[42:56] Speaker 2: offense can be with who Aiden Childs, I guess is throwing.
[42:59] Speaker 1: To army of slot receivers. Yes, yeah, Anthony Calandria, come on,
[43:05] Speaker 1: I think come on, hold on, it's come on, Anthony Calandria,
[43:09] Speaker 1: Matt Rules slash Dana Holgerson. I think that's going to
[43:13] Speaker 1: be a lot of fun. Actually, now I've got a
[43:16] Speaker 1: soft spot for Calandria. I know what you're going to
[43:18] Speaker 1: I'm not even sure I understand why, but right that pairing,
[43:23] Speaker 1: to me is really exciting. I'm excited about that when
[43:25] Speaker 1: I'm excited about Georgia Tech, and I'm excited about the
[43:28] Speaker 1: Aaron Filo Florida situation. If I'll give you another those
[43:32] Speaker 1: are my three.
[43:34] Speaker 2: If you were to say to me, pick one of
[43:36] Speaker 2: these new combinations other than Naden Childs that you could
[43:40] Speaker 2: see a quarterback having a thirty three touchdowns, sixteen interceptions
[43:46] Speaker 2: type season where it's just nothing but fireworks in every direction.
[43:50] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[43:50] Speaker 2: Jake Spavitol and DJ Lagway. He's like, they just beat
[43:55] Speaker 2: TCU seventy seven, thirty eight and then lost a game
[43:59] Speaker 2: sixty four sixty one. Right, it's all on the table
[44:02] Speaker 2: with that pairing. Yeah, I think he's gonna throw for
[44:05] Speaker 2: a bajillion yards and have games where you're just like,
[44:08] Speaker 2: I don't know, was he looking directly at that safety
[44:11] Speaker 2: for fifteen straight seconds?
[44:13] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[44:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think there's some pairings like that,
[44:16] Speaker 2: but that would be the one I choose to say, like, oh, man,
[44:19] Speaker 2: high ceiling, low floor every week, are we gonna do.
[44:22] Speaker 1: The thing again this year? With what was it five
[44:24] Speaker 1: touchdowns and five interception games?
[44:26] Speaker 2: I think it was four? The quarterbacks who went I
[44:28] Speaker 2: think Carson Beck did that last year, a game with
[44:29] Speaker 2: four touchdown passes and a separate game with at least
[44:32] Speaker 2: four picks.
[44:33] Speaker 1: It would really be something special to do both in
[44:35] Speaker 1: the same game. Oh yeah, I've done that in the
[44:39] Speaker 1: video game. I haven't seen a whole lot of people
[44:40] Speaker 1: do that in real life.
[44:42] Speaker 2: Who was it that? God? Was it Eli Manning, who
[44:45] Speaker 2: like his first season, which would be like, hey, through
[44:47] Speaker 2: five picks. I don't know what to tell you. The Giants.
[44:50] Speaker 1: That was definitely Eli Manning.
[44:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh my god. I always respect those quarterbacks who
[44:55] Speaker 2: were just like, you know what, I've thrown three interceptions,
[44:59] Speaker 2: So what's the worst that can happen? I throw another one.
[45:02] Speaker 1: I always I would be in mental ruin if that
[45:04] Speaker 1: happened to me out there. I don't think I could
[45:06] Speaker 1: come back from.
[45:06] Speaker 2: That any other quarterback And like head coach or offensive
[45:11] Speaker 2: coordinator pairings that you're like, I'm always interested in, like
[45:15] Speaker 2: a Kenny Dillingham QB. Like, I think he's gonna put
[45:17] Speaker 2: guys in position to succeed, and obviously he's got it's
[45:20] Speaker 2: what youth and Cutter Bully competing for this job.
[45:24] Speaker 1: Basically, Yeah, I'm I'm intrigued by that because I've read
[45:28] Speaker 1: mixed reviews on Cutter Bully and she was both you know,
[45:32] Speaker 1: obviously was a pretty well known recruit, somebody that Kenny
[45:36] Speaker 1: Dillingham was into. When this is going way back to
[45:39] Speaker 1: when dilly Ham was still at Oregon was marting Cutter Bully.
[45:42] Speaker 1: So I think there's a familiarity there, and I think
[45:45] Speaker 1: there's an assumption that it's going to be Cutter Bully,
[45:47] Speaker 1: But I'm I'm from what I've been reading, I'm not
[45:49] Speaker 1: sure that's going to be the case. But we'll see.
[45:51] Speaker 2: Still see, it's like hard to look at Luke Fickle
[45:54] Speaker 2: and with Colton, Joseph Caden, Joseph Culton, Joe and Joseph
[45:58] Speaker 2: Clton Joseph okay, first time and say like, oh, that's intriguing,
[46:03] Speaker 2: Joseph is intriguing. The receivers and the proven element of
[46:08] Speaker 2: these receivers and the system. You're just like, I hope
[46:10] Speaker 2: it works out for them. Man, they're completely snake bitten
[46:13] Speaker 2: that quarterback with injuries and poor performances over the years.
[46:17] Speaker 2: So I can't, like, in good conscience say a name
[46:20] Speaker 2: like that. I said this before we started, like Nico
[46:23] Speaker 2: and Bob Chesney. Again, I'm not crazy about the receiver
[46:26] Speaker 2: room at UCLA. But if anybody needed, I guess a
[46:29] Speaker 2: second fresh start, maybe it's Nico. I tell you, I'm
[46:34] Speaker 2: we had that like three game renaissance in the middle
[46:36] Speaker 2: of last year.
[46:37] Speaker 1: I'm all in on Bobby Chaz same, I'm all in.
[46:41] Speaker 1: I'm all in, and I believe that Matt Campbell will
[46:44] Speaker 1: be great at Penn State.
[46:45] Speaker 2: Okay.
[46:46] Speaker 1: I also believe that Penn State had a prime opportunity
[46:48] Speaker 1: to hire Chesney earlier on in the process and not
[46:52] Speaker 1: have this thing drag on and turn into a three
[46:54] Speaker 1: ring circus and by the way, they chose not to.
[46:57] Speaker 1: They let him go to UCLA.
[46:59] Speaker 2: At the moment it will last, but they have like
[47:00] Speaker 2: a top five or six national recruiting class killing it.
[47:04] Speaker 1: This passed like two weekends ago.
[47:06] Speaker 2: And this is somebody who's had zero time, Yeah, absolutely,
[47:09] Speaker 2: zero minutes, zero hour, zero seconds to form West Coast
[47:13] Speaker 2: relationships with high school coaches and seven on seven coaches
[47:15] Speaker 2: and trainers and stuff. Obviously, there's a certain amount of
[47:18] Speaker 2: UCLA and the money involved. Now that's energized behind the
[47:21] Speaker 2: scenes with UCLA that's playing a role in this. But
[47:25] Speaker 2: he is resonating in a big way on the recruiting trail,
[47:28] Speaker 2: and it seems behind the scenes at UCLA. And so
[47:32] Speaker 2: I think we believe the best of Nico is at
[47:35] Speaker 2: least an interesting quarterback who can move a team down
[47:38] Speaker 2: the field. I would love for him to have more
[47:40] Speaker 2: around him. But yeah, that is a pairing that I'm
[47:45] Speaker 2: going to pay a lot more attention to than than
[47:47] Speaker 2: I thought I would. In February January.
[47:50] Speaker 1: Dan David has a off the beaten path question here.
[47:55] Speaker 1: I'm right, I think it pertains to college football, which
[47:57] Speaker 1: is why I'm asking it. Now, how do you feel
[47:59] Speaker 1: about where your team's gear in public when they are
[48:02] Speaker 1: historically bad or just had an embarrassing loss. I always
[48:06] Speaker 1: think people are laughing to themselves or thinking they suck,
[48:10] Speaker 1: probably because that's what I do. It does not only
[48:13] Speaker 1: apply to college football. I have just started wearing my
[48:16] Speaker 1: White Sox gear after years of keeping it in the
[48:18] Speaker 1: back of my closet. Thank you. David. All right, I
[48:22] Speaker 1: think it's kind of cool. I like it. I like
[48:26] Speaker 1: the contrarian nature of it, so I'm all for it, David,
[48:30] Speaker 1: and I don't have that reaction. I don't look at
[48:33] Speaker 1: somebody wearing at Rutgers use mets. Mets. I do kind
[48:39] Speaker 1: of make fun of people with mets, but you're a
[48:41] Speaker 1: Yankees man.
[48:42] Speaker 2: We'll continue. If you see Rutgers gear.
[48:43] Speaker 1: Like Rutgers, you know, like it's harmless. Sure, support your team,
[48:47] Speaker 1: you know, go for it. I support that. I don't
[48:50] Speaker 1: generally have that reaction to seeing it out in public.
[48:54] Speaker 2: I have nothing but respect for people who wear their
[48:58] Speaker 2: team's clothes and gear through thick and thin, Like is
[49:01] Speaker 2: it this.
[49:02] Speaker 1: The entire home field business model we're describing here, Like, yeah,
[49:06] Speaker 1: just make cool shirts for all the teams, even the
[49:08] Speaker 1: ones that suck and you can win people over.
[49:11] Speaker 2: Yes, I I almost respect it more right, it's what's
[49:18] Speaker 2: the old like, if you can't handle me at my worst,
[49:20] Speaker 2: you don't deserve me at my best. That's what it is.
[49:22] Speaker 2: Is that like the needle point throw pillow. I mean
[49:25] Speaker 2: that sounded great, thank you. Look if you're wearing a
[49:30] Speaker 2: Purdue football hat through thick and thin, a Perdue football
[49:34] Speaker 2: hoodie through thick and thin, right, people will know you
[49:38] Speaker 2: like that, dude, Like they will immediately think of you
[49:41] Speaker 2: if and when things turn around. If you're always wearing
[49:44] Speaker 2: Indiana football, specifically football, you're not just wearing I use
[49:48] Speaker 2: stuff because like there are a ton of people. Is
[49:50] Speaker 2: I think the biggest alumni base right in America.
[49:52] Speaker 1: I have a story about this, this exact circumstance. Actually,
[49:55] Speaker 1: so there's.
[49:56] Speaker 2: There's never been shame in wearing you gear because it
[50:02] Speaker 2: exists as something broader than just a sports institution. Like
[50:05] Speaker 2: you go there, you're in a frat or soroar. It's
[50:08] Speaker 2: like a new jazz center in the Midwest.
[50:10] Speaker 1: Not like I don't think enough people realize that, probably
[50:13] Speaker 1: more so now because they just want a title. But
[50:15] Speaker 1: Indiana is a huge school.
[50:17] Speaker 2: But what I'm saying if ty see and pickleball, Melissa
[50:21] Speaker 2: always wearing Indiana gear to the courts. Here we go
[50:24] Speaker 2: and they're terrible year in and year out, and they're
[50:26] Speaker 2: thrilled that they went six and six and made the
[50:30] Speaker 2: Heart of Dallas Bowl or something in twenty seventeen. And
[50:33] Speaker 2: then she's still wearing it on the court in twenty
[50:37] Speaker 2: twenty four, and all of a sudden, they're incredible. She
[50:41] Speaker 2: can say, Yeah, I always believed, I'm always I've never listened.
[50:46] Speaker 1: I have a real actual story about this.
[50:49] Speaker 2: All due respect to the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Of course.
[50:52] Speaker 1: I go to a place fairly regularly where there's a
[50:55] Speaker 1: guy who wears an Indiana hat and has worn an
[50:59] Speaker 1: Indiana ahead for years. Yeah, and at some point or
[51:03] Speaker 1: another made account about Indiana basketball. He's going, no, no,
[51:07] Speaker 1: this is football, is football, and this is when they
[51:11] Speaker 1: did suck.
[51:12] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[51:13] Speaker 1: And my reaction to that was, this, dude's a real one.
[51:17] Speaker 1: He's a sicko, a fellow sicko, and I respected a
[51:21] Speaker 1: little bit more so listen.
[51:25] Speaker 2: To each his own.
[51:26] Speaker 1: If you want to go out and where your White
[51:28] Speaker 1: Sox gear, or where your Rutgers gear or where your
[51:31] Speaker 1: Oklahoma State gear. Whatever you're into. I don't think you
[51:35] Speaker 1: should necessarily change because you're concerned about what other people
[51:40] Speaker 1: are going to think. Now, if you don't feel like
[51:42] Speaker 1: you're in the headspace to wear that, then that's your prerogative.
[51:46] Speaker 1: But I would not worry at all about what other
[51:48] Speaker 1: people think. Who cares?
[51:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually really appreciated when I moved back home
[51:55] Speaker 2: from college from Eugene back to LA. It made me
[51:59] Speaker 2: gain and Loon was when I left. They weren't great.
[52:03] Speaker 2: It was coming off of what the two thousand and
[52:05] Speaker 2: four season, which was pretty bad, and two thousand and
[52:08] Speaker 2: six was pretty bad. But like they Oregon sell that
[52:10] Speaker 2: reputation of having good teams and the Nike stuff all.
[52:12] Speaker 2: You know, Sure, there was something very cool about wearing
[52:15] Speaker 2: Oregon stuff in LA being surrounded by USC and UCLA people,
[52:19] Speaker 2: And I always appreciate building a personal brand around whether
[52:26] Speaker 2: or not your team is good or not. But like
[52:28] Speaker 2: I always if you go to Florida and you see
[52:30] Speaker 2: somebody wearing a Wazoo shirt or something, you're like, did
[52:33] Speaker 2: you go to Wazoo? They're like yeah, and now you
[52:35] Speaker 2: live in Sarasota.
[52:37] Speaker 1: Cool.
[52:38] Speaker 2: There might not. There's probably probably the only one so
[52:41] Speaker 2: I I enjoy riding for your school, and especially since
[52:45] Speaker 2: the gear has gotten really good. Shirts have gotten more
[52:48] Speaker 2: and more comfortable, hats have gotten better. Yeah. Represent and
[52:54] Speaker 2: you're not just representing a football team, You're representing a
[52:58] Speaker 2: time and place in your life. I think it's great.
[53:00] Speaker 1: We got two questions here that pertain to Texas. It
[53:03] Speaker 1: was a rather Texas heavy show last time around. Okay,
[53:06] Speaker 1: I'm going to group these together because I promised the
[53:09] Speaker 1: Verballer hood we would go here. We got one from Chris,
[53:12] Speaker 1: we got another one from Dan. The Chris question is
[53:15] Speaker 1: do I think Steve Sarcusan will be on the hot
[53:18] Speaker 1: seat if Texas doesn't at least win one playoff game
[53:21] Speaker 1: this year? Okay, take that, put that to the side.
[53:24] Speaker 1: I have some real thoughts on that.
[53:25] Speaker 2: Okay.
[53:26] Speaker 1: The second question from Dan, he says I asked this
[53:29] Speaker 1: last year. So now, what does arch Manning have to
[53:32] Speaker 1: do to achieve to live up to the hype? Let's say,
[53:38] Speaker 1: is it even possible to have a season that delivers
[53:40] Speaker 1: on his promise? Both questions are related to Texas and
[53:45] Speaker 1: Texas sized expectations for this coming season. Right there are
[53:50] Speaker 1: a lot of expectations on Texas the season, they loaded
[53:53] Speaker 1: up in the portal, they went out, They spent big.
[53:55] Speaker 1: Arch Manning is coming back for his final season. It's
[54:00] Speaker 1: a schedule that is, as we discussed on the last episode,
[54:03] Speaker 1: by no means easy. But if Texas lives up to
[54:07] Speaker 1: any of this hype, it's they should find their way
[54:09] Speaker 1: into the playoff. I think. Yeah, So let me just
[54:13] Speaker 1: reframe the question a little bit and ask you what
[54:18] Speaker 1: does Texas need to do to live up to the
[54:21] Speaker 1: hype to not leave their fans feeling like they came
[54:26] Speaker 1: up woefully short. That doesn't necessarily mean winning a national championship, right, Well.
[54:30] Speaker 2: Look, it depends. You got to see who they would
[54:32] Speaker 2: actually be playing in the playoff, if and when they're
[54:34] Speaker 2: in the playoff, and what the context is If arch
[54:38] Speaker 2: Manning gets hurt on the seventh play, I'll Colt McCoy
[54:41] Speaker 2: in the national championship. Sorry, I should have offered a
[54:43] Speaker 2: trigger warning there from Texas people.
[54:45] Speaker 1: I hated that that sucks so well, you're.
[54:47] Speaker 2: Just like, that's not on sark, right, I mean, look,
[54:50] Speaker 2: maybe the offensive line recruiting and development is and maybe
[54:53] Speaker 2: that gets a quarterback in trouble, but no, you'd have
[54:56] Speaker 2: to know the context of the loss, who they're playing,
[54:58] Speaker 2: what the situation is. Look, if they're reasonably healthy and
[55:01] Speaker 2: they lose, what was it thirty eight to three, the
[55:03] Speaker 2: way Indiana trounced Alabama, that's a problem. That means you're
[55:08] Speaker 2: not really all that prepared to be competitive in a
[55:10] Speaker 2: playoff game. I don't believe it to be a hot
[55:14] Speaker 2: seat situation. If you're getting a team to the playoff,
[55:17] Speaker 2: that means you're having a really successful season in a
[55:19] Speaker 2: very difficult conference in the SEC. I would say on
[55:24] Speaker 2: the margins, I would say, if you're to assume reasonable
[55:28] Speaker 2: health with some expected injury issues and whatever guy's not
[55:32] Speaker 2: working out, I would say Texas short of the final
[55:37] Speaker 2: four would be somewhat disappointing. Not end of the world,
[55:42] Speaker 2: somewhat disappointing. They're recruiting, they're spending, they're hiring like they
[55:48] Speaker 2: want to be in the top four, and so if
[55:51] Speaker 2: you're to assume arch progression with maybe better receiver play,
[55:55] Speaker 2: better offensive line play, better play calling, better running game.
[55:58] Speaker 2: The running game was futured last year, right, saying they
[56:02] Speaker 2: should be right there in the final four seems reason.
[56:07] Speaker 1: That seems reasonable to me, And the only other thing
[56:09] Speaker 1: that I would add to that on just the broader
[56:10] Speaker 1: Texas point, I do think it's kind of silly to
[56:14] Speaker 1: throw out hot seat with regard to Sark. Sarks done
[56:16] Speaker 1: a great job. He's done a good job. Maybe there
[56:19] Speaker 1: are expectations out there, some meat still on the bone
[56:24] Speaker 1: for sure, but Sarks done a good job. So I
[56:28] Speaker 1: just I'm not even going to address that. I don't
[56:30] Speaker 1: think that's a real concern or should it be. On
[56:32] Speaker 1: the arch Manning side of things, needs to show progression.
[56:35] Speaker 1: What does that look like? Needs to look like a
[56:37] Speaker 1: top ten pick. He's a Manning.
[56:40] Speaker 2: He apparently already has shown that, apparently already shoven Box
[56:44] Speaker 2: have him like one overall.
[56:46] Speaker 1: Absolutely, But what we can't see is regression. Okay, he
[56:50] Speaker 1: was maybe at the end of last year, but he
[56:54] Speaker 1: needs to show that he's taking a step forward. He
[56:56] Speaker 1: needs to continue improving the way I think we saw
[56:58] Speaker 1: down the stretch last year.
[57:00] Speaker 2: But that's more abstract, right, You're talking about like progression
[57:04] Speaker 2: to your eyes or two our collective eyes in terms
[57:07] Speaker 2: of actuals asking me.
[57:08] Speaker 1: He's asking us the question that I'm answering it truthfully, No, No.
[57:12] Speaker 2: What I'm saying though, is like I would in terms
[57:15] Speaker 2: of like, if there is an actual binary benchmark for
[57:19] Speaker 2: Arch to hit to essentially justify the hype, I think
[57:24] Speaker 2: it would be a private jet from Austin to No,
[57:29] Speaker 2: I'm serious, a private jet ride from Austin to LaGuardia
[57:33] Speaker 2: in mid December. I'm not saying he has to win
[57:36] Speaker 2: the Heisman. You got to be in that room now.
[57:40] Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's a failure if he's not. I'm
[57:42] Speaker 2: not saying he's a bad quarterback. I'm not saying he's
[57:43] Speaker 2: a disappointing quarterback if he's not. But because of that
[57:46] Speaker 2: last name, because of the attention he's received both from
[57:49] Speaker 2: Warby Parker and Vori, sponsors could be could absolutely be sponsors.
[57:54] Speaker 2: I consume both of your products happily. I would say
[57:59] Speaker 2: to the general public, him not being a Heisman quarterback,
[58:03] Speaker 2: after him being to this degree a household name these
[58:06] Speaker 2: past few years, I would see that. I would assume
[58:09] Speaker 2: that to be like, oh, that's kind of like, that's
[58:11] Speaker 2: a little bit disappointing given how much Arch we have
[58:13] Speaker 2: in our lives.
[58:15] Speaker 1: You know, I tried to buy a set of glasses
[58:18] Speaker 1: from them, okay, and I have like at a physical
[58:23] Speaker 1: location or mail order. No, I tried. I tried the
[58:25] Speaker 1: mail order thing. Yeah, and because I have like this
[58:28] Speaker 1: is we're really going deep into thie weeds here. I
[58:31] Speaker 1: have an astigmatism in this eye, on the left eye. Yeah,
[58:34] Speaker 1: And I tried to get a set of glasses from
[58:36] Speaker 1: them because I liked them, and they showed up, but
[58:37] Speaker 1: I couldn't see a damn thing, and so I started
[58:40] Speaker 1: poking around. I did some Internet research. I ended up
[58:43] Speaker 1: talking to one of the doctors I guess on staff
[58:45] Speaker 1: at the company and they're like, ay, we don't. We
[58:49] Speaker 1: don't make glasses for that type of eye. Maybe they
[58:52] Speaker 1: changed that was a couple of years ago, but yeah,
[58:53] Speaker 1: I can't. I literally can't get them old freak guy,
[58:56] Speaker 1: hilden Freak Guy, hilden Brand, Maga, weird feet, weird eyes,
[58:59] Speaker 1: the whole thing's weird.
[58:59] Speaker 2: No, I've ordered glasses from I mean I've gone to
[59:02] Speaker 2: the physical location as well. I think I took my
[59:05] Speaker 2: eye exam there last time. They have eye doctors on
[59:07] Speaker 2: staff for eye exams because you have to have one
[59:10] Speaker 2: every so often for them to sell you glasses. And
[59:13] Speaker 2: so then I put in my prescription and everything worked
[59:15] Speaker 2: out okay. So I'm sorry that your what you said,
[59:19] Speaker 2: your left eye, left eye, yeah, is so irreparably damaged.
[59:24] Speaker 1: It's not damaged. I could see fot. I just couldn't
[59:26] Speaker 1: not out of that.
[59:26] Speaker 2: That's not what I've heard that warby Parker is like,
[59:30] Speaker 2: we can't service your malady if.
[59:34] Speaker 1: They want to send me free glasses and run ads on.
[59:36] Speaker 2: The show, all allout, But can I tell you not
[59:39] Speaker 2: a sponsor? Could be they make nice sunglasses? Took Yeah, yeah, of.
[59:43] Speaker 1: Course this is an unsolicited ad, I guess. But yeah,
[59:47] Speaker 1: all right, let's do like one or two more here. Okay,
[59:50] Speaker 1: we've got this question from Justin. Can Mike Norvel dig
[59:54] Speaker 1: himself out of this hole? Or as Florida State just
[59:56] Speaker 1: going to be mediocre until the buyout is a reasonable price.
[1:00:02] Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I toast.
[1:00:04] Speaker 1: I'll tell you right, I'll straight up, just I think
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: he's toasted.
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: You just don't know how long it will take buy out.
[1:00:11] Speaker 1: I think it's I think he's a dead man, walking man.
[1:00:14] Speaker 2: Could you imagine how like the the unforeseen effects of
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: Nick Saban retiring and how much money that made? I
[1:00:23] Speaker 2: guess what, Dan Lanning, Steve Sarkisian Kaylin de boor now.
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: And that's also the Sharon More thing with the interest
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: in Kaylen de Bor from Michigan and Mike Norvell. How
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: many dozens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars Nick
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: Saban's written, it's obviously more more ripple effects with assistants
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: and other coaching jobs, and uh that really Nick Saban
[1:00:47] Speaker 2: retiring really screwed over floor stage that they're like, we
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: can't let this guy go, And yeah, I look, Florida
[1:00:59] Speaker 2: State was actually decent last season. They didn't close close games,
[1:01:05] Speaker 2: but they were not all that far off. They were
[1:01:07] Speaker 2: your like typical acc three and a half minutes away
[1:01:11] Speaker 2: from being nine to three something like that. Yeah, so yes,
[1:01:15] Speaker 2: you gotta close games like they had to close against
[1:01:17] Speaker 2: Pitt And what was Virginia was the double overtime game.
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: They had too many close calls and too many winnable
[1:01:24] Speaker 2: quarters or moments that they let slide away. So we're
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: not talking about a Florida State team that's states away,
[1:01:33] Speaker 2: you know, that's hundreds of miles away from success. It's
[1:01:37] Speaker 2: just that last step that you know, that's just it
[1:01:41] Speaker 2: seems so elusive for Florida State, and it seemed that
[1:01:44] Speaker 2: way for so long that their reputation, especially with like
[1:01:50] Speaker 2: Miami in a place where it is along with the
[1:01:52] Speaker 2: other schools that Florida State is typically recruiting against in
[1:01:55] Speaker 2: the Southeast, and the how much Georgia is still thriving
[1:01:59] Speaker 2: in the school around there, and how much every major
[1:02:02] Speaker 2: team is recruiting Florida and Georgia and the Carolina is like,
[1:02:06] Speaker 2: it just seems like it's a reputation that's not going
[1:02:09] Speaker 2: to be able to be turned around all that quickly
[1:02:12] Speaker 2: unless Ashton Daniels is incredible.
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: If he's incredible, then maybe the conversation is different. I'm
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: just not buying that he's going to be incredible, you know. Now,
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: we did a show month and a half ago, yeah,
[1:02:30] Speaker 1: where we called it Spring Intel. We talked a little
[1:02:33] Speaker 1: bit about Florida State and the Quarterback Battle. Since that
[1:02:37] Speaker 1: episode dropped, almost like forty eight hours after that quarterback
[1:02:41] Speaker 1: drop or that that episode dropped, Mike Norvell did announce
[1:02:45] Speaker 1: that QB one is going to be Ashton Daniels. At
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: the time we recorded, it seemed a little bit up
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: in the air, but shortly thereafter it came out that
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: it is going to be Ashon Daniels. I'm not crazy
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: about that, but yeah, if he's incredible, I think there's
[1:02:57] Speaker 1: stuff to like there. I don't think he's going to
[1:03:00] Speaker 1: be a disaster, but it it surprised me. This is
[1:03:02] Speaker 1: two cycles now two street cycles at Florida State, a
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: traditional power like Florida State, where I looked at the
[1:03:09] Speaker 1: quarterback transfer and I was like, I don't know if
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: I get this, So.
[1:03:13] Speaker 2: What do you expect? I mean, look, there's only so
[1:03:14] Speaker 2: many that are going to be impactful.
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: I know, I just you know, Norvell threw the ball
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: around like crazy at Memphis and even the offense that
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: he had with Jordan Travis was pretty good.
[1:03:25] Speaker 2: But since then, it.
[1:03:26] Speaker 1: Just they just have not been able to dj we
[1:03:28] Speaker 1: Uncle Lay was a disaster. Like they've just not hit
[1:03:31] Speaker 1: at all at quarterback since Jordan Travis's no longer with them.
[1:03:35] Speaker 2: So I'm and by the way, took a big swing
[1:03:38] Speaker 2: at offensive coordinator with Gus Malzan, a big swing fully
[1:03:41] Speaker 2: did not work out on the level that was anticipating.
[1:03:44] Speaker 1: Drove him in a retirement. Man, Yeah, he's out of
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: the game completely.
[1:03:48] Speaker 2: So I just don't know.
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: Justin like, I'm not on board with the way that
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: they've been building this thing. Something that I think about
[1:03:57] Speaker 1: often when I'm reading through Florida State Notes is what
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: our friend Bud Elliott from Cover three and the Nole
[1:04:03] Speaker 1: Cast posted at the end of November where he basically said,
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: we're gonna stop doing the podcast. We're I think his
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: phrasing was basically, we're only going to put in the
[1:04:15] Speaker 1: level of effort that we see the administration putting in
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: on the Florida State side fair and it is fair.
[1:04:22] Speaker 1: It's completely fair. He's clearly frustrated as one of the
[1:04:26] Speaker 1: more knowledgeable college football fans and Florida State fans that
[1:04:29] Speaker 1: I know, and so, for whatever that's worth to you,
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: I just think I think it's done. I think it's over.
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: I think it would have been over sooner if not
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: for the buyout.
[1:04:40] Speaker 2: So yeah. By the way, Florida State this season SMU
[1:04:44] Speaker 2: and Alabama Alabama on the road in consecutive games. Although
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: it's a Monday night week off than the next Saturday,
[1:04:51] Speaker 2: there's twelve days between those two games. Virginia at Louisville
[1:04:55] Speaker 2: on a short week. That's a short Friday night, you know,
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: turnaround where they play at l followed by the next week.
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: I guess eight days later at Miami, followed by a
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: bye and then Clemson, and they have a road tilt
[1:05:07] Speaker 2: at pitt in November, right, usually as pitt looks better
[1:05:11] Speaker 2: than they actually are, and coming off of a lost
[1:05:14] Speaker 2: to Pits, and now they're returning to Pittsburgh for that
[1:05:18] Speaker 2: game and then finishing out with whatever new look Florida
[1:05:21] Speaker 2: is by the end of the season. So if they're
[1:05:25] Speaker 2: merely decent seven and five, right, if they are in
[1:05:31] Speaker 2: fact good, you're still talking about an eight and four
[1:05:33] Speaker 2: nine and three ceiling. So that's real tough.
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: I just think I'm out. I'm out, Dan, I'm out.
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: I hope I'm wrong again. I'm not rooting against any
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: of these teams, but no.
[1:05:44] Speaker 2: I know. But look, if his buyout were eight million dollars,
[1:05:49] Speaker 2: I know, we'd be talking about new coach at Florida State. Yeah,
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: so that's not a great place to be in. They're like,
[1:05:59] Speaker 2: you're back, because we have a lot of serious reservations
[1:06:03] Speaker 2: about paying you money.
[1:06:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, here's our final question, Dan, Yeah, as you know,
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: we like to go a little bit off the beaten
[1:06:10] Speaker 1: path for some of these final questions. Give someone out
[1:06:13] Speaker 1: there listening in the carve doing wash, going for a run,
[1:06:16] Speaker 1: give them something to think about.
[1:06:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, your answer on the last one, I thought, what
[1:06:20] Speaker 2: was it? Was usually not redheads, but you're willing to
[1:06:23] Speaker 2: give it. Thought was that how you answered?
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: No? I got to go check the transcript.
[1:06:28] Speaker 2: Was that a different podcast?
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: There might have been our super secret podcast? Probably got it?
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: Got it? Sorry about that?
[1:06:36] Speaker 1: This one alsome from Dan. Okay, now that most podcasts
[1:06:39] Speaker 1: are on video, do you get the sense that your
[1:06:41] Speaker 1: colleagues feel pressure to keep up their appearance, stay in shape,
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: or do whatever it takes to be camera ready? Does
[1:06:47] Speaker 1: it matter what kind of podcast you're doing, as in,
[1:06:49] Speaker 1: if you complain or critical as part of your stick,
[1:06:52] Speaker 1: do you have to be more presentable? I recently saw
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: a clip of a guy that I listened to periodically
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: who looked like he came out of a cast call
[1:07:00] Speaker 1: for bloggers who live in their mom's basement, and it
[1:07:02] Speaker 1: did affect what I thought of his opinions. Thank you, Dan,
[1:07:05] Speaker 1: always thoughtful Dan? Right, Uh, Okay.
[1:07:10] Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of the Okay, so the colleague,
[1:07:13] Speaker 2: so college football shows that I've seen video versions of,
[1:07:19] Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure everybody does a pretty good job of
[1:07:22] Speaker 2: looking presentable, and I'm pretty sure most of the people
[1:07:25] Speaker 2: in our little genre here have been doing video for
[1:07:28] Speaker 2: a while, yeah, or if they haven't, it is comprised
[1:07:33] Speaker 2: of hosts who have been on video right at previous stops. Right,
[1:07:38] Speaker 2: So it doesn't feel like a new thing. Like I'm
[1:07:40] Speaker 2: not going to get into the whole like production of
[1:07:42] Speaker 2: the video thing. On the podcast side, that's a whole
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: you know, that's a whole other conversation. But in terms
[1:07:48] Speaker 2: of the people doing podcasts in our college football world,
[1:07:52] Speaker 2: I feel like most of them have been on video
[1:07:54] Speaker 2: for their show or other shows, and so it's not
[1:07:57] Speaker 2: really a new thing. Yes. The only thing I I
[1:08:04] Speaker 2: don't love when I see somebody in a hoodie, not
[1:08:10] Speaker 2: because hoodies are bad. I know you have a hoodie on.
[1:08:12] Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's a hoodie. I'm wearing like a
[1:08:14] Speaker 2: what's whatever, these like the long sleeve shirt hoodie things
[1:08:17] Speaker 2: are called.
[1:08:18] Speaker 1: Right, I'm cool now I'm not. It's not zippered. It's
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: just kind of.
[1:08:21] Speaker 2: It's more, there's nothing wrong with a hoodie. Wear a hoodie,
[1:08:25] Speaker 2: make it a nice hoodie, make it an it's when
[1:08:28] Speaker 2: you get the sense that it's an unwashed sweatshirt that
[1:08:32] Speaker 2: they've been wearing around for two or three days, and
[1:08:37] Speaker 2: that maybe they put it on in the morning, they've
[1:08:40] Speaker 2: been wearing it for hours upon hours, maybe days upon days,
[1:08:43] Speaker 2: and you're just like, this is somebody who works from
[1:08:46] Speaker 2: home and dresses like nobody is looking at them where
[1:08:52] Speaker 2: it's just like ooh, I don't know. I don't know
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: if I'm explaining this correctly. Like if you're wearing lounge
[1:08:59] Speaker 2: wear on camera, you better also looked washed in a
[1:09:05] Speaker 2: good way. Sorry that like you've taken a shower that day.
[1:09:10] Speaker 2: I think it's not about necessarily how you dressed, or
[1:09:14] Speaker 2: how you shave or do your hair, or how you're
[1:09:19] Speaker 2: lit or filmed or anything like that.
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: He just Dan just wants a washed king, is what
[1:09:24] Speaker 1: you're saying.
[1:09:24] Speaker 2: I want to wash king. What I'm looking for is
[1:09:29] Speaker 2: somebody with presence on camera. Right, They're not slouching in
[1:09:32] Speaker 2: a chair. They're not they don't have like hair in
[1:09:35] Speaker 2: their eyes. They there is something about like that there's
[1:09:40] Speaker 2: life in their eyes a little bit. Does that make sense?
[1:09:43] Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm talking about? Like if you
[1:09:45] Speaker 2: were to go on twitch right now and look, I'm
[1:09:47] Speaker 2: the wrong person to talk to talk to me.
[1:09:50] Speaker 1: About the youth on Twitch, Dan, I gotta hear it else.
[1:09:52] Speaker 2: But what I'm saying is like, if you were to
[1:09:55] Speaker 2: look at somebody who is in the corner of a
[1:09:58] Speaker 2: video game frame, hey, that they're streaming whatever it is
[1:10:03] Speaker 2: that Twitch streamers stream. Do you know what I'm saying tis?
[1:10:06] Speaker 2: This is great?
[1:10:06] Speaker 1: I just want you to keep talking. I'm not even
[1:10:08] Speaker 1: gonna say anything.
[1:10:10] Speaker 2: Like somebody that's four and a half hours into a
[1:10:12] Speaker 2: fortnight stream when they're slouched in their weird gaming chair
[1:10:16] Speaker 2: and they're just like answering questions that are popping up
[1:10:19] Speaker 2: from users on the stream and they're just mowing. Okay, good,
[1:10:24] Speaker 2: guess that's the presence that I think about. You can
[1:10:29] Speaker 2: hate everything I have to say. You can hate how
[1:10:31] Speaker 2: I look, you can hate how I talk about the sport.
[1:10:36] Speaker 2: You can you can hate my general attitude all you want.
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: But I always want to look like I am excited
[1:10:45] Speaker 2: to be on this show and speak to you. And
[1:10:48] Speaker 2: if I'm ever like slouching, yeah, that's why I'm just like,
[1:10:53] Speaker 2: why are you on video? Why are you doing this
[1:10:55] Speaker 2: on video? You look like you don't want to be here.
[1:10:57] Speaker 2: I don't have to can I don't have to think
[1:10:59] Speaker 2: that by only listening to the audio. Now that I
[1:11:01] Speaker 2: see it, I'm like, Oh, he's not putting in any effort.
[1:11:03] Speaker 2: Why should I. That's that's the thing I think about
[1:11:06] Speaker 2: is and I'm sure I'm guilty of not looking like
[1:11:09] Speaker 2: it sometimes as I'm like looking on another screen or
[1:11:12] Speaker 2: zoning out while you're talking about Penn State's hiring process
[1:11:16] Speaker 2: of whatever their new coach's name is, Matt Campbell whatever,
[1:11:21] Speaker 2: their new coach. Yeah, I'm just kidding, tie. Yeah, But
[1:11:25] Speaker 2: I that's the thing I'd be most paranoid about if
[1:11:28] Speaker 2: I were somebody hosting a video podcast of like appearing
[1:11:34] Speaker 2: to be engaged. Does that make sense?
[1:11:37] Speaker 1: Yeah? No, I haven't to the question, I haven't heard
[1:11:40] Speaker 1: a whole lot of people bemoaning the fact that they
[1:11:44] Speaker 1: got to be on video.
[1:11:45] Speaker 2: Now fill it's added work for suit.
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: Is added work. No, I'm not saying people aren't annoyed
[1:11:55] Speaker 1: at the extra production workflow. I guess like we're kind.
[1:11:59] Speaker 2: Of an Okay, Yeah, that's fine, that's it.
[1:12:02] Speaker 1: That's the whole thing. But in terms of the people,
[1:12:05] Speaker 1: the talent that is on camera recording these shows, I
[1:12:10] Speaker 1: haven't heard a whole lot of scuttle butt around like, oh, man,
[1:12:13] Speaker 1: I comb my hair now, you.
[1:12:15] Speaker 2: Know, can I can I ask you a question that's
[1:12:17] Speaker 2: sort of tangential to this. When you see a podcast
[1:12:20] Speaker 2: and it's generally not sports, it's generally more culture or
[1:12:25] Speaker 2: comedy or something like that. They're more in person interview
[1:12:29] Speaker 2: type video versions of podcasts, and you see people kind
[1:12:33] Speaker 2: of like curled up under a blanket on a couch
[1:12:36] Speaker 2: or on a couch with their shoes off, with their
[1:12:38] Speaker 2: socks kicked up, because the vibe they're going for is like,
[1:12:41] Speaker 2: I just want to create like kind of a cozy space. Okay,
[1:12:45] Speaker 2: I'm not super into that. Okay, especially when it's famous
[1:12:51] Speaker 2: people again, comedians or media people or actors, actresses, whatever,
[1:12:56] Speaker 2: the like fake cozy, but you're on camera and in
[1:13:01] Speaker 2: full makeup, and it feels weirdly antithetical, like I don't know,
[1:13:10] Speaker 2: it's especially I'm not into it. I feel like it's
[1:13:15] Speaker 2: it's overly artificial, Like if you're in it's like this
[1:13:20] Speaker 2: is an edited, you know, form of media, Like it
[1:13:24] Speaker 2: is artificial. So I think there's something about leaning into
[1:13:27] Speaker 2: the like, yes, we're on camera, let's be let's treat
[1:13:32] Speaker 2: it like especially those you know, the more if Gwyneth
[1:13:34] Speaker 2: Paltrow is appearing on What's What's a popular like celebrity
[1:13:40] Speaker 2: interview show The Armchair.
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: Call me, Daddy, Call her daddy, don't call me. I
[1:13:47] Speaker 1: don't know.
[1:13:48] Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's sort of an odd look.
[1:13:50] Speaker 1: Maybe, okay, all right, that's that's.
[1:13:53] Speaker 2: Like old fashioned show business tie.
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you're we're audio only.
[1:13:59] Speaker 2: But it's also how I feel. I've said this before,
[1:14:01] Speaker 2: like when you tune into like NFL Live or a
[1:14:06] Speaker 2: college football Live or a sports center or whatever, and
[1:14:09] Speaker 2: it's somebody wearing a suit with Jordan's like, and they
[1:14:13] Speaker 2: all look like like seven year old ushers at weddings, Like,
[1:14:17] Speaker 2: treat this medium with the bare minimum amount of respect. Oh,
[1:14:23] Speaker 2: you're wearing Jordan threes with a suit. Yeah, I'm a host,
[1:14:32] Speaker 2: but I'm a cool host. Yeah, I'm a mom, but
[1:14:36] Speaker 2: I'm a cool mom. Was that the line for mean girls?
[1:14:40] Speaker 2: I can't stand that. The wearing Jordan. I think our
[1:14:44] Speaker 2: friend Cole Kublick does it. It's the only thing I
[1:14:46] Speaker 2: don't like about him. I like him otherwise, wearing.
[1:14:50] Speaker 1: Seven year old usher that's pretty.
[1:14:52] Speaker 2: Don't you look like a seven if you're wearing a suit. Again,
[1:14:55] Speaker 2: maybe this is me. Maybe this is cranky boomer talk
[1:14:57] Speaker 2: from me.
[1:14:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, man, if you're gonna go the full effort of
[1:15:01] Speaker 1: every time I talk to you.
[1:15:03] Speaker 2: Like a dry cleaned suit, an iron shirt with or
[1:15:08] Speaker 2: without a time?
[1:15:09] Speaker 1: Are you talking that on both sides of your mouth though?
[1:15:11] Speaker 1: Wasn't your mantra? Probably for like the last ten years,
[1:15:14] Speaker 1: you're only as comfortable as your feet.
[1:15:17] Speaker 2: Yes, it is. Find comfortable dress shoes. Find find dress
[1:15:22] Speaker 2: shoes Oxfords whatever they're called fair fair that are the
[1:15:25] Speaker 2: right width for your feet, that are the right size,
[1:15:29] Speaker 2: that are just look nice enough to be on camera.
[1:15:33] Speaker 1: I'm dying sneakers with suits. This is terrific.
[1:15:36] Speaker 2: Again. I know I sound like I'm eighty three years old,
[1:15:41] Speaker 2: but you see you see that look, and you're just like, ah, okay,
[1:15:44] Speaker 2: you're the cool host. Cool. No? Am I my speaking
[1:15:51] Speaker 2: out of turn?
[1:15:51] Speaker 1: Here?
[1:15:52] Speaker 2: Am I alone? Am? I?
[1:15:53] Speaker 1: Am?
[1:15:53] Speaker 2: I on?
[1:15:53] Speaker 1: Like? I'm dying?
[1:15:54] Speaker 2: Where wear the correct shoes with a suit? Island?
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: I don't know when that started happening. Was that avid thing?
[1:16:01] Speaker 2: No idea? Well, so I think it's been an evolution
[1:16:04] Speaker 2: because they started doing the dress shoes with the sneaker souls,
[1:16:08] Speaker 2: which I think also look pretty funny. But it's not
[1:16:13] Speaker 2: like you're doing something that requires you to have elite
[1:16:17] Speaker 2: traction when you're on the set of NFL Live or
[1:16:21] Speaker 2: Big Noon Saturday. So I don't know. Again, I know
[1:16:27] Speaker 2: I'm out love this. I love this so much, but
[1:16:30] Speaker 2: just I don't know. Man, finish the look, Okay, finish
[1:16:35] Speaker 2: the look.
[1:16:37] Speaker 1: Why don't we leave it there?
