[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal holl that for me. I'm
[0:06] Speaker 1: a man, I'm forty. I've heard so many players say, well,
[0:09] Speaker 1: I want to be happy. You want to be happy
[0:11] Speaker 1: for day Edith State? Is that?
[0:13] Speaker 2: Whoo whoo?
[0:14] Speaker 1: And no Dan and tie Dan Rubinstein.
[0:19] Speaker 2: It has been many long, cold, boring months of not
[0:24] Speaker 2: talking about actual college football. But at long last, my
[0:29] Speaker 2: good friend, we have arrived. It is time to start
[0:33] Speaker 2: the engines. It is time to start talking about the
[0:36] Speaker 2: twenty twenty six college football season.
[0:38] Speaker 1: Welcome back, how are you? I'm really good, Ty, I'm
[0:42] Speaker 1: really really good. This is our opening ceremonies, right it is.
[0:45] Speaker 1: This is essentially our welcome to everything, and I have
[0:50] Speaker 1: to sort of make an admission here, Ty. I was
[0:53] Speaker 1: driving home today carpooling kids to camp before recording this,
[0:57] Speaker 1: and I was like, all right, what would be like
[0:59] Speaker 1: a cool, like punny theme to think about the opening ceremonies?
[1:05] Speaker 1: A welcome back? Well, you know you got welcome to
[1:07] Speaker 1: the jungle. You know there's all this welcome back cod
[1:10] Speaker 1: or for all the really young people references that are
[1:13] Speaker 1: looking for something fun. And then I thought to myself, Okay,
[1:18] Speaker 1: let's go, let's steer more into who we are and
[1:21] Speaker 1: what is meaningful to us culturally. And I now have
[1:25] Speaker 1: to admit that I'm completely useless because I've been writing
[1:29] Speaker 1: lyrics to Welcome to the Fleck Parade. I don't know
[1:36] Speaker 1: if we're even gonna mention Minnesota on this episode.
[1:39] Speaker 2: Can't image. I don't know why we would, but okay,
[1:41] Speaker 2: keep going, Please keep going. Don't let me stop you.
[1:43] Speaker 1: By the way sidebar Minnesota. People use that as fuel
[1:47] Speaker 1: ty saying I don't know why we would talk about Minnesota.
[1:49] Speaker 1: We'll talk about Minnesota, just not on this Sine episode.
[1:53] Speaker 1: And it completely derailed my efforts just thinking about lyrics
[1:58] Speaker 1: to Welcome to the Fleck Parade. Of like when I
[2:01] Speaker 1: rode the boat with Yeah, and it's just I apologize
[2:06] Speaker 1: to you and to everybody for being so com like
[2:08] Speaker 1: I went and looked at like Fanfair audio tracks and
[2:12] Speaker 1: just like I just kept coming back to Welcome to
[2:15] Speaker 1: the Fleck Parade, and so I apologize.
[2:18] Speaker 2: Well, the expectation is going to be now that you
[2:20] Speaker 2: finish Yeah, before we get done with all of our previews,
[2:24] Speaker 2: certainly by the time we get done with the Big
[2:26] Speaker 2: ten previews, the expectations among our verballerhood is going to
[2:30] Speaker 2: be that you have a fully working I don't want
[2:34] Speaker 2: to say like music, but you're gonna need something to
[2:39] Speaker 2: show your work here.
[2:41] Speaker 1: Well, the working title of the band obviously is Thai
[2:44] Speaker 1: Chemical Romance. Sure beyond that, I just I don't have
[2:47] Speaker 1: much to offer beyond the title and the few opening
[2:50] Speaker 1: lines to welcome to the fleck Parade. That's it.
[2:53] Speaker 2: Well, we are very excited to be recording this episode.
[2:56] Speaker 2: I know I speak for you when I say that.
[2:59] Speaker 2: For anybody you stop it on by, please hit follow
[3:02] Speaker 2: or subscribe. We've got a bunch more preview episodes in
[3:06] Speaker 2: the queue. We're excited about it. We're excited to be
[3:08] Speaker 2: talking about some actual football and not a lot of
[3:10] Speaker 2: the offseason stuff, which we will recap to some degree
[3:14] Speaker 2: over the next hour or so. Of course, if you've
[3:17] Speaker 2: been here for a while and want to help support
[3:20] Speaker 2: the team Forballers dot com is where you can go.
[3:22] Speaker 2: That's our patreon that goes directly Dan and I helps
[3:24] Speaker 2: us keep the lights on. And if you are ever
[3:27] Speaker 2: so inclined, if you got a few minutes to kill,
[3:30] Speaker 2: go on out give us a five star rating, write
[3:32] Speaker 2: a review.
[3:33] Speaker 1: All that stuff goes a long way. Speaking of sounds Dan,
[3:37] Speaker 1: I found this one in the vault. I don't know
[3:39] Speaker 1: what it's from. But in a world this fall, some
[3:43] Speaker 1: people think they're God in.
[3:44] Speaker 2: College football, thought maybe we could get things off to
[3:50] Speaker 2: a dramatic start here.
[3:51] Speaker 1: Yeah. Even though college football doesn't want Jimbo, he is
[3:54] Speaker 1: still very real to us. He's still he still can it? Yeah, yes,
[3:58] Speaker 1: of course he is. So.
[3:59] Speaker 2: Look, we did this episode for the first time a
[4:02] Speaker 2: couple of years ago. We ran it back last year
[4:04] Speaker 2: as well. The verballer hood told us it was actually
[4:08] Speaker 2: quite useful, more useful than I think you or I
[4:10] Speaker 2: even envisioned when we put the idea.
[4:13] Speaker 1: Down on paper.
[4:14] Speaker 2: Today's episode is, in effect the intro to the twenty
[4:19] Speaker 2: twenty six college football season. College Football twenty twenty six
[4:24] Speaker 2: one oh one. The purpose of this episode today is
[4:27] Speaker 2: to go through the when, the where, the why, the how,
[4:32] Speaker 2: the who whatever else we can come up with, just
[4:36] Speaker 2: as a primer to get you started. Because, as is
[4:39] Speaker 2: ever the case in this damn sport, so much changes
[4:43] Speaker 2: throughout the course of an offseason. It seems useful to
[4:46] Speaker 2: have some sort of starting point to get people back
[4:49] Speaker 2: into the swing of things, to whet the beak right
[4:52] Speaker 2: to slowly build towards the coming twenty twenty six college
[4:55] Speaker 2: football season. So that is the purpose of this episode.
[4:58] Speaker 2: We're not going to get everything, I'm sure, but from
[5:00] Speaker 2: a very high level, the purpose of this is to
[5:03] Speaker 2: bring you back up to speed.
[5:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, this is basically to help you in your backyard
[5:08] Speaker 1: barbecue cookout grill sessions, by the way, when you are
[5:11] Speaker 1: just trying to catch up with what has transpired the
[5:15] Speaker 1: past six months or so and what has changed from
[5:17] Speaker 1: last year to this year with regard to the way
[5:20] Speaker 1: you this is, which is nouns right, the people, places,
[5:22] Speaker 1: and things of the off season, and how that's going
[5:26] Speaker 1: to sort of shape shift as we head into the season.
[5:30] Speaker 1: So I'm not gonna lie. I think our audience is
[5:32] Speaker 1: aging with us. So this is helpful for us. Hopefully
[5:37] Speaker 1: it's helpful for you. There are times when I will
[5:40] Speaker 1: give myself memory tests when I'm like sitting in the
[5:44] Speaker 1: car in traffic or something like, all right, what was
[5:46] Speaker 1: the name of this? Yeah, like who did Bill Belichick
[5:49] Speaker 1: hire to make his offense way better with? I think
[5:53] Speaker 1: Billy Edward's gonna run the North Carolina allegedly that's what
[5:56] Speaker 1: they tell us. Yes, I was like I remember it
[5:58] Speaker 1: was a name. I remember it was somebody interesting. I
[6:00] Speaker 1: remember it's an interesting duo. It's like, oh, Bobby Petrino.
[6:03] Speaker 1: So I'm giving myself like little bouts of jeopardy to
[6:08] Speaker 1: combat memory loss with college football and otherwise just in life.
[6:13] Speaker 1: I just quiz myself. So this is again, I think
[6:16] Speaker 1: our audience is aging with us. So hopefully we are
[6:20] Speaker 1: all in the same We're all rowing the same boat here,
[6:24] Speaker 1: ty to close the loop.
[6:26] Speaker 2: Keep the fleck parade going, all right, So let's start
[6:28] Speaker 2: with the basics. Then, what people need to know is this.
[6:32] Speaker 2: The season starts on August twenty ninth, when North Carolina
[6:37] Speaker 2: and TCU do battle in Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland,
[6:41] Speaker 2: DAN twelve pm Eastern time. That is the first game
[6:44] Speaker 2: of week zero. There are a couple other games in
[6:46] Speaker 2: week zero. There was supposed to be another international game
[6:50] Speaker 2: between Virginia and NC State in Rio, which apparently took
[6:55] Speaker 2: on a bit of a firefest field to it. Yeah,
[6:58] Speaker 2: and they called that whole thing off their play in Charlottesville.
[7:02] Speaker 2: So those are maybe two of the games of note,
[7:05] Speaker 2: the most games of note in week zero. As I said,
[7:07] Speaker 2: there are a couple others. The season runs all the
[7:11] Speaker 2: way through now until January the twenty fifth.
[7:17] Speaker 1: It's a long time. The season is longer. It is
[7:20] Speaker 1: longer by at least a week. Now.
[7:23] Speaker 2: The final game is going to be played Allegiance Stadium
[7:26] Speaker 2: in Las Vegas. You'r CFP National Championship Game January the
[7:30] Speaker 2: twenty fifth. It is a Monday, so you can count
[7:34] Speaker 2: up those months if you want to. But yeah, the
[7:37] Speaker 2: season is long. The season is growing. Certainly, there will
[7:40] Speaker 2: be many storylines that pop up between then and now.
[7:42] Speaker 1: But they extended it by a week. Why not? So
[7:47] Speaker 1: we're saying the name of this thought exercise is Welcome
[7:53] Speaker 1: to the twenty twenty sixth season colon from Aviva the
[7:58] Speaker 1: number two Allegiance from Aviva to Allegiance.
[8:02] Speaker 2: I mean your pun game is lacking a little bit.
[8:05] Speaker 2: Maybe those are the tests you should do with yourself
[8:07] Speaker 2: in the car.
[8:08] Speaker 1: You think that's a lacking a Viva to Allegiance too. Again,
[8:11] Speaker 1: it didn't. It didn't roll off the tongue for me.
[8:13] Speaker 1: Welcome to the twenty twenty sixth season colon from a
[8:16] Speaker 1: Viva to Allegiant'.
[8:21] Speaker 2: Verbal solid verbal at gmail dot com. Way in, It's
[8:25] Speaker 2: not tie quality.
[8:26] Speaker 1: I thought that was absolutely a Ghoulian effort.
[8:29] Speaker 2: It's not your Duke of Hazzard Alanlizard caliber. But it's
[8:32] Speaker 2: okay approaching there.
[8:35] Speaker 1: It wasn't even supposed to be a pun. It's just
[8:37] Speaker 1: a viva to allegiant.
[8:38] Speaker 2: We do have some other notable neutral site games while
[8:42] Speaker 2: we're on the topic, throughout the course of the first
[8:45] Speaker 2: couple weeks.
[8:45] Speaker 1: Now, of course we know there.
[8:47] Speaker 2: Are games like the World's or South Door Cockail Party
[8:50] Speaker 2: whatever we call it now between Florida and Georgia that
[8:53] Speaker 2: is played at a neutral site annually. Notre Dame plays Navy,
[8:56] Speaker 2: I believe up in Boston, like there are plenty throughout
[8:59] Speaker 2: the river of the yet Red River, right like the
[9:01] Speaker 2: traditional ones that we see often. I haven't so much
[9:04] Speaker 2: pulled those out, but just five other notable ones. Baylor
[9:08] Speaker 2: and Auburn in Atlanta Week one, Louisville Ole Miss in
[9:12] Speaker 2: Nashville Week one, Wisconsin versus Notre Dame lambeau Field.
[9:16] Speaker 1: It's a pretty cool venue in week one.
[9:18] Speaker 2: And then we've also got Virginia at Western Virginia versus
[9:23] Speaker 2: West Virginia excuse me, in Charlotte and Arizona State versus
[9:27] Speaker 2: Kansas in Week three, also in London, as the Big
[9:29] Speaker 2: twelve continues to build its global brand.
[9:33] Speaker 1: That's also it's kind of like a John Denver matchup, right,
[9:35] Speaker 1: because there's the argument that Country Roads is about Western Virginia,
[9:40] Speaker 1: not West Virginia. You've probably seen the TikTok or whatever
[9:43] Speaker 1: platform that went up on by Now. I don't think
[9:46] Speaker 1: it's officially settled, but it's probably West Virginia. And you're
[9:51] Speaker 1: talking neutral siers, right Yep. Most UCLA games as well
[9:55] Speaker 1: have that neutral site feel.
[9:57] Speaker 2: Well, maybe not now under the tutelage of Robert Edward Chesney.
[10:01] Speaker 1: You know, Bobby Chez. Yeah, I hope it changes.
[10:04] Speaker 2: So we got a long season, we got a couple
[10:06] Speaker 2: neutral sites. The season is set to get rolling on
[10:09] Speaker 2: August to twenty ninth. Now, yes, you can find that
[10:13] Speaker 2: if you.
[10:13] Speaker 1: Go on out to ESPN dot com or a number
[10:15] Speaker 1: of other websites. This is not news.
[10:18] Speaker 2: Maybe it's news to the ears. But here are the
[10:21] Speaker 2: notable changes, the things that I think the forballerhood needs
[10:25] Speaker 2: to sink its teeth into and understand as the season
[10:29] Speaker 2: gets rolling. Number one who would have guessed it? But
[10:33] Speaker 2: more changes to the college football playoff Dan, Yeah, I
[10:37] Speaker 2: want you to write this down. They're changing it again.
[10:40] Speaker 2: Here is what they are changing this year. The four
[10:44] Speaker 2: Power four conference champions automatically get in.
[10:48] Speaker 1: Check.
[10:49] Speaker 2: Also, the highest ranked group of six team gets in. Okay,
[10:56] Speaker 2: plus the other seven highest ranked at large teams. That's
[11:02] Speaker 2: going to comprise your field of twelve. Now what is
[11:04] Speaker 2: different about that? What is different was that last season
[11:09] Speaker 2: it was the five highest ranked conference champions who automatically
[11:14] Speaker 2: earned the bid, regardless of what conference they were in. Right,
[11:18] Speaker 2: tl DR. That's how you get JMU. That's how you
[11:21] Speaker 2: got two lane in the same.
[11:23] Speaker 1: Right that dumped Duke out because they were not one
[11:26] Speaker 1: of the five highest ranked conference champions.
[11:29] Speaker 2: So I interpret this as a net gain for the
[11:33] Speaker 2: Power four and also something that probably decreases the risk
[11:39] Speaker 2: of two G six teams getting in again like we
[11:41] Speaker 2: saw last.
[11:41] Speaker 1: Year, sure, which was the unstated goal of this adjustment.
[11:45] Speaker 2: Practically speaking, that's what this means. I don't necessarily think
[11:49] Speaker 2: it's a horrible change. I don't think we're fully disenfranchising
[11:53] Speaker 2: the G six, but I would say, just again, practically speaking,
[11:57] Speaker 2: it decreases the risk of that happening again.
[12:00] Speaker 1: Of course, by the way, we should mention last year's
[12:03] Speaker 1: inclusion of both James Madison and Tulane was a crazy
[12:09] Speaker 1: confluence of unrepeatable events of Duke losing five times and
[12:14] Speaker 1: winning the acc and not making the tournament. But yes,
[12:19] Speaker 1: we have to do everything we can all of the
[12:21] Speaker 1: time to adjust continue.
[12:23] Speaker 2: The other thing worth mentioning is that this is going
[12:26] Speaker 2: to be the first year and we saw reporting about this,
[12:29] Speaker 2: it sort of flew under the radar amid everything else
[12:32] Speaker 2: going on in college football. Notre Dame will receive an
[12:36] Speaker 2: automatic bid if they are ranked in the top twelve
[12:38] Speaker 2: and the final rankings.
[12:40] Speaker 1: Yes, finally Notre Dame catches a break, and again if
[12:47] Speaker 1: they get an automatic bid if they finish in the
[12:49] Speaker 1: top twelve, but they have to officially accept it right
[12:53] Speaker 1: which they don't always do. This is going to be
[12:56] Speaker 1: a topic of conversation. I can just tell you right now.
[12:58] Speaker 2: I don't know if it's so much going to be
[13:00] Speaker 2: a big deal this year because Notre Dame, as we
[13:02] Speaker 2: will get into over the course of this episode, figures
[13:05] Speaker 2: to be one of the top five teams in the country.
[13:08] Speaker 2: They've got a schedule that should keep them in the
[13:10] Speaker 2: top five teams in the country. It is a loaded roster,
[13:13] Speaker 2: Notre Dame will be very good. I don't think it's
[13:15] Speaker 2: going to be a circumstance like we saw a year ago.
[13:18] Speaker 2: Things change. I didn't think that would be the case
[13:20] Speaker 2: for Penn State last year either.
[13:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not automatic. You know, there's a lot of
[13:25] Speaker 1: a lot of evaluations of Notre Dame schedule that say
[13:29] Speaker 1: that they're going to coast based on not having a
[13:33] Speaker 1: ton of obviously formidable opponents, And it'll be You're right,
[13:38] Speaker 1: it'll be a topic of conversation. I will just remind
[13:40] Speaker 1: people Notre Dame has scheduled some of the best Canadian
[13:43] Speaker 1: high schools who are willing to play against the Irish. Right,
[13:48] Speaker 1: all right, you never say never continue. We now have
[13:50] Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty eight teams, Dan bron Bombshells entering FELLA.
[13:57] Speaker 1: Two new teams joining this year.
[13:58] Speaker 2: As if we didn't have enough last year, let's add
[14:01] Speaker 2: two more on to the growing list of FBS teams, starting.
[14:05] Speaker 1: With North Dakota State.
[14:07] Speaker 2: Man. Yes, I am fired up for North Dakota State
[14:11] Speaker 2: to play at the FBS level. They are officially joining
[14:13] Speaker 2: the Mountain West. As many who listen to this, no
[14:17] Speaker 2: North Dakota State has been an absolute FCS powerhouse. They
[14:22] Speaker 2: have ten FCS national championships in the last fifteen years.
[14:26] Speaker 1: Just pretty good.
[14:27] Speaker 2: Yes, Over the last decade or so, North Dakota State
[14:31] Speaker 2: has acquitted itself quite well when they play FBS teams.
[14:34] Speaker 2: They have played three Power Conference FBS teams over the
[14:37] Speaker 2: last decade. They beat Iowa, if you want to go back,
[14:40] Speaker 2: ten years back in twenty sixteen, by a twenty three
[14:43] Speaker 2: to twenty one score. In twenty twenty two, four years
[14:47] Speaker 2: ago they lost to Arizona by a thirty one to
[14:50] Speaker 2: twenty eight score, and two years ago in twenty twenty four,
[14:54] Speaker 2: they lost to Colorado by a thirty one to twenty
[14:56] Speaker 2: six margins.
[14:57] Speaker 1: So right, a back and forth game. Yeah, do the math.
[14:59] Speaker 2: That's two losses by a combined eight points all told,
[15:03] Speaker 2: three games against powerful opponents decided by just ten points.
[15:08] Speaker 2: North Dakota State jumping now into the fray here.
[15:11] Speaker 1: Yes, and by the way, they just to in all seriousness,
[15:15] Speaker 1: they have if you look at some of the advanced
[15:17] Speaker 1: metrics that are from Bill Connolly ESPN, does they have
[15:21] Speaker 1: acquitted themselves in a way that a top fifty or
[15:24] Speaker 1: sixty no matter the division type, team would acquit themselves
[15:29] Speaker 1: given opponents and such. So they're joining the Mountain West.
[15:33] Speaker 1: I'm sure this is an easy runway for you, but
[15:36] Speaker 1: they're joining the Mountain West due to a number of
[15:39] Speaker 1: teams shuffling conferences to accommodate the new look PAC twelve.
[15:45] Speaker 2: We will get into conference re alignment here momentarily. A
[15:48] Speaker 2: sweet set of ice, man, thank you. The other team
[15:51] Speaker 2: that is new is Sacramento State. Yes, Sacramento State, returning
[15:57] Speaker 2: to its traditional roots is apparently a team DAN. They're
[16:02] Speaker 2: joining the MAC.
[16:03] Speaker 1: Yes they are.
[16:05] Speaker 2: It is a different scenario all together than what we
[16:08] Speaker 2: are seeing with North Dakota State. I'm not going to
[16:12] Speaker 2: pretend that I understand the math on this one.
[16:14] Speaker 1: Okay, it's not.
[16:16] Speaker 2: But Sacramento State is joining the MAC on a five
[16:18] Speaker 2: year agreement. Under this agreement, Sacramento State takes no conference payout.
[16:26] Speaker 2: They also, for the first year at least, are covering
[16:30] Speaker 2: air travel for visiting MAC teams.
[16:32] Speaker 1: What I don't think I knew that detail.
[16:34] Speaker 2: And in year one of disagreement they are paying six
[16:38] Speaker 2: million dollars of a total eighteen million dollar entry fee,
[16:44] Speaker 2: so they will need to pay out the remaining I
[16:46] Speaker 2: guess what thirteen million, twelve million. Excuse me over the
[16:49] Speaker 2: remainder of their four year stay if it is only
[16:53] Speaker 2: four years, but at least in year one they're going
[16:55] Speaker 2: to owe six million.
[16:57] Speaker 1: Of that eighteen million.
[16:59] Speaker 2: There were questions when they made this announcement around the
[17:02] Speaker 2: fact that they were doing it at all, a bunch
[17:05] Speaker 2: of folks questioning the math behind it. There is some
[17:08] Speaker 2: concern that this could be financially speaking, an air in judgment.
[17:13] Speaker 2: All that said, because they are joining the MAC we
[17:16] Speaker 2: do get to see them play ball State, which means
[17:18] Speaker 2: the ball sack rivalry is on and we're very excited
[17:20] Speaker 2: about that.
[17:21] Speaker 1: Also potentially the wildest collection of notable alumni on a
[17:27] Speaker 1: Wikipedia Notable Alumni page Sacramento State, Tom Hanks, the former
[17:33] Speaker 1: chief of staff of the President of Iran. Those are
[17:35] Speaker 1: two different people, by the way, Okay, Tom Ryan Coogler,
[17:39] Speaker 1: who's now like a legendary and acclaimed director Creed from
[17:43] Speaker 1: the Office and a terrific musician way back when, a
[17:48] Speaker 1: notorious serial killer the Golden State Killer, and perhaps my
[17:52] Speaker 1: favorite addition to this list, legendary Toronto blue jay Buck Martinez,
[17:58] Speaker 1: real former voice of Trip will play Baseball Anya sports
[18:02] Speaker 1: are all at least on the Wikipedia page of Sacramento State.
[18:06] Speaker 1: Didn't cam Scantabu went there for a little bit before ASU. Right,
[18:11] Speaker 1: I don't think he measures up to any of those names.
[18:13] Speaker 1: But no, of course, yes, I'm not saying he's an alum,
[18:15] Speaker 1: but he was there for a moment in time. Yeah. Right, Well,
[18:17] Speaker 1: I don't know if any of those people actually graduated,
[18:19] Speaker 1: but yes, yeah, I'm pretty sure he transferre from Sacramento State.
[18:23] Speaker 1: I think you got that right, the Hornets. I believe
[18:28] Speaker 1: Sacramento State Hornets. So we get sack State UMass if
[18:31] Speaker 1: not this year, some year. So there's that.
[18:35] Speaker 2: You mentioned conference your alignment. Yes, the PAC twelve is
[18:38] Speaker 2: back back like it never left. They're calling it the
[18:42] Speaker 2: PAC twelve. But it's only got eight teams, continuing the
[18:44] Speaker 2: long tradition in college football of naming a conference with
[18:47] Speaker 2: the number despite the fact that the conference itself does
[18:50] Speaker 2: not have that number of teams.
[18:52] Speaker 1: Correct, And also it's back like it definitely did leave.
[18:55] Speaker 1: The manner in which it is back is like, oh
[18:57] Speaker 1: it left.
[18:58] Speaker 2: Okay, continue eight teams, all of which end with the
[19:03] Speaker 2: state suffix, which is a fact that I'm sure we'll amuse.
[19:08] Speaker 1: Almost nobody other than me.
[19:09] Speaker 2: But we've got Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Oregon State,
[19:13] Speaker 2: San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State.
[19:16] Speaker 1: And Washington State Dan eight teams.
[19:18] Speaker 2: Yep, the games are going to be broadcast across CBS
[19:21] Speaker 2: USA and the c DUB back in the game. So
[19:26] Speaker 2: by virtue of Texas State leaving to join the PAC twelve,
[19:32] Speaker 2: the Sun Belt needed another team. They went out they
[19:35] Speaker 2: poached Louisiana Tech from Conference USA. So now the Sun
[19:38] Speaker 2: Belt is fourteen teams, even number.
[19:41] Speaker 1: That's quite a number of teams that are shifting things around.
[19:44] Speaker 1: And by the way, I joke about the new look
[19:47] Speaker 1: PAC twelve and how funny it is that they're just
[19:49] Speaker 1: calling it the PAC twelve as it's just not. But
[19:54] Speaker 1: those are all teams that have been of like varying
[19:57] Speaker 1: impressive quality in the last decade or so. Like it
[20:00] Speaker 1: looks to be a conference that has pretty solid depth
[20:04] Speaker 1: of quality. And I've been a Mountain West fan for
[20:07] Speaker 1: quite some time now, and so with some of those
[20:09] Speaker 1: Mountain West teams moving to a new conference together, the
[20:13] Speaker 1: Mountain West seems like it perhaps has added some quality.
[20:17] Speaker 1: Of course, with North Dakota State, hopefully it means for
[20:21] Speaker 1: even more watchable football out west, which is always meaningful
[20:24] Speaker 1: to me. We should talk about the Mountain West because
[20:28] Speaker 1: northern Illinois is now in the Mountain West. Right, that's
[20:32] Speaker 1: the other edition.
[20:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, your Mountain West is now comprised of Air Force Hawaii, Nevada,
[20:37] Speaker 2: and New Mexico. Seen those before and also got San
[20:41] Speaker 2: Jose State, unlv utep In Wyoming out there. But this
[20:45] Speaker 2: year we now add yes, North Dakota State and northern
[20:48] Speaker 2: Illinois as.
[20:49] Speaker 1: A resident in the northern of the northern part of Illinois.
[20:53] Speaker 1: Seeing Northern Illinois join the Mountain West, it seems funny
[20:58] Speaker 1: to some, but when you think about mountainous regions of
[21:01] Speaker 1: this country, the northern part of Illinois has to be
[21:05] Speaker 1: one of your top seventy five thousand regions.
[21:09] Speaker 2: We have so many people who email this show soliverbo
[21:11] Speaker 2: at gmail dot com speaking lovingly about the mountains of
[21:14] Speaker 2: northern Illinois.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Okay, look, you have the Andes, right, you have the
[21:19] Speaker 1: Sierra Nevadas. You got a lot to contend with. But
[21:24] Speaker 1: there are a couple off ramps in this part of
[21:26] Speaker 1: the state that get pretty vertical. Tie I'm I'm.
[21:29] Speaker 2: Envisioning that scene from dumb and dumber where they're like, yeah,
[21:33] Speaker 2: I expected the Mountain West to be a little bit
[21:35] Speaker 2: more mountainous that John Denver was full of.
[21:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, No, that was not the Mountain Yeah, the Mountain West,
[21:41] Speaker 1: the Rockies, Yeah, I hear you. What else is new? Well,
[21:45] Speaker 1: we've got a bunch here. Okay.
[21:47] Speaker 2: Rule changes. There were some rule changes of note. I'm
[21:52] Speaker 2: not going to go into all of them, but there
[21:55] Speaker 2: are three that I pulled out that I thought were
[21:57] Speaker 2: kind of interesting. The first is targeting. What are the
[22:00] Speaker 2: controversial topic targeting? So the NCAA has approved the one
[22:04] Speaker 2: year trial Dan, It's like a new medicine. They've approved
[22:08] Speaker 2: a one year trial whereby a player is not suspended.
[22:11] Speaker 2: If they get hit with targeting a second time, then
[22:13] Speaker 2: they missed the first half of the next game. If
[22:15] Speaker 2: you get hit with targeting for a third time in
[22:17] Speaker 2: one season, that means you are suspended for a full game.
[22:20] Speaker 2: But it seems as if they are reducing the punishments
[22:24] Speaker 2: associated with targeting.
[22:25] Speaker 1: I think it's worthwhile just because we're never going to
[22:28] Speaker 1: get to the point where an official on the field
[22:34] Speaker 1: is going to feel one hundred percent certain all of
[22:36] Speaker 1: the time. There is a judgment element to this. There
[22:41] Speaker 1: is like, it's certainly a call that when you watch
[22:43] Speaker 1: a play in super duper slow mo, it seems a
[22:47] Speaker 1: lot more obvious than what the officials have to contend with.
[22:51] Speaker 1: I know they replay it and stuff, but a play
[22:55] Speaker 1: in super slow motion is not reality. These players are
[22:58] Speaker 1: making bang bang decisions. And unless you see somebody making
[23:02] Speaker 1: a play defensively or offensively where it's like, oh, it's
[23:05] Speaker 1: so clearly them trying to injure somebody, I'm glad that
[23:11] Speaker 1: we're not going over the top with punishment. I like this.
[23:14] Speaker 1: I think this is the right move. We'll see how
[23:16] Speaker 1: the one year trial goes.
[23:18] Speaker 2: Elsewhere, we've got offensive pass interference I guess standardizing on
[23:24] Speaker 2: the NFL model as opposed to what we've had in college.
[23:27] Speaker 2: It is now only ten yards instead of fifteen. The
[23:31] Speaker 2: NFL has done this for a while. College is now
[23:34] Speaker 2: going to this as well, only ten yards instead of fifteen.
[23:37] Speaker 2: Shot that one down. Like I said, there are a
[23:39] Speaker 2: bunch of other more nuanced rules, fair catch rules, dropkick
[23:46] Speaker 2: rule like I'm not going to talk about that. The
[23:48] Speaker 2: one that I found funny though, just because we made
[23:51] Speaker 2: a lot of this last year I'm calling this the
[23:53] Speaker 2: Terry McCauley rule, or I guess the Terry McCauley proposal,
[23:57] Speaker 2: even though.
[23:58] Speaker 1: The uniform regulation I don't think terrym.
[24:00] Speaker 2: Callie had anything to do with this, but I mentioned
[24:02] Speaker 2: Terry McCauley because this was like one of the only
[24:05] Speaker 2: three things he tweeted about all last season. Yeah, Terry McCauley,
[24:09] Speaker 2: former NFL ref doing rules analyst work for NBC. The
[24:13] Speaker 2: Oversight Committee saw a proposal that would have required players
[24:17] Speaker 2: to wear leg coverings from the tops of their shoes
[24:21] Speaker 2: to the bottoms of their pants. Yeah, Terry McCauley had
[24:24] Speaker 2: an issue with what he called bike shorts being worn.
[24:28] Speaker 2: The Oversight Committee did not approve that proposal, so we're
[24:31] Speaker 2: still going to see some bike shorts out there.
[24:33] Speaker 1: Sorry, Terry, Sorry, apologize. What else?
[24:37] Speaker 2: Well, we got some bowl situations. Okay, we got three
[24:42] Speaker 2: bowls that are no longer if you can believe it,
[24:45] Speaker 2: Pour one out for the LA Bowl, the Game Above
[24:47] Speaker 2: Sports Bowl, and the Bahamas Bowl going the Jimmy Kimmel
[24:51] Speaker 2: LA Bowl, the LA Bowl presented by Gronk Sayanara, no more,
[24:55] Speaker 2: you said Bahamas Bowl. Bahamas Bowl, which has not always
[24:58] Speaker 2: been played in the Bahamas. Correct, what's the third one?
[25:02] Speaker 2: The game above Sports Bowl?
[25:04] Speaker 1: The game above Sports Bowl. The only thing, the only
[25:07] Speaker 1: other thing I remember about the Bahamas Bowl was Roger
[25:10] Speaker 1: Sherman went and noticed that they served Popeyes. But there
[25:14] Speaker 1: is not Popeyes on the island cot the Bahamas or
[25:18] Speaker 1: something like that. So all right, pour one out. You know.
[25:21] Speaker 1: I enjoyed the brief tenure of the La Bowl and
[25:26] Speaker 1: always enjoyed the Bamas Bowl, always early on in the process,
[25:28] Speaker 1: had some memorable plays.
[25:29] Speaker 2: I enjoy the idea, the concept of maybe them flying
[25:35] Speaker 2: a seven forty seven of Popeyes Chicken over to the
[25:37] Speaker 2: island just for the boll game.
[25:40] Speaker 1: I think it's great. Too bad we do have new
[25:43] Speaker 1: bowl games, though, I'm not gonna play the sound. What
[25:45] Speaker 1: do we have?
[25:46] Speaker 2: We've got a new bowl game, the Puerto Rico Bowl.
[25:50] Speaker 2: It will be played in December. I jotted down.
[25:53] Speaker 1: Then. It's got a sweet f and logo. Do you
[25:55] Speaker 1: have this in front of you? Do you see this?
[25:56] Speaker 1: Look it up right now. I love good Good brandt
[25:58] Speaker 1: this logo Arico Bowl. I have it in our document.
[26:03] Speaker 1: Oh look at that logo, man, what am I? It's
[26:07] Speaker 1: in our Yeah, the Google doc yeah, you got the
[26:10] Speaker 1: document open. I can see you in there. I am
[26:12] Speaker 1: in here scrolled down. See I'm scrolling. Oh that is nice.
[26:15] Speaker 1: That's pretty dope, isn't it? Look at that? That is nice.
[26:18] Speaker 1: We've got a palm tree in there. And we've got
[26:20] Speaker 1: some kind of horned skull situation for the O in
[26:25] Speaker 1: Puerto like a little Eldo delos Wertos going on there.
[26:29] Speaker 1: There is something. Yeah, and it's got the Puerto Rican
[26:31] Speaker 1: flag painted into it. Yeah, beautiful.
[26:33] Speaker 2: Right. We've also got a new slash old bowl game
[26:36] Speaker 2: in that the Point Cetia Bowl is coming back. It's back, baby,
[26:40] Speaker 2: been ten years without the Point Setia Bowl.
[26:42] Speaker 1: Is the San Diego County Credit Union involved or have
[26:46] Speaker 1: they washed their hands? I don't know. I don't know
[26:48] Speaker 1: what the status is of the San Diego County Credit
[26:51] Speaker 1: Union right now. I have basically one memory of the
[26:53] Speaker 1: Point Setia Bowl, and I think we had a couple
[26:55] Speaker 1: of interesting matchups. It was an early Bowl game like
[26:58] Speaker 1: we had maybe like a TC Boise or something in
[27:01] Speaker 1: that range of those kinds of quality teams. I remember
[27:04] Speaker 1: Navy played in it one when they got me flooded
[27:06] Speaker 1: out right flooded Point Sedi Bowl with Navy, with Navy who,
[27:12] Speaker 1: by the way, strong naval presence in San Diego County.
[27:15] Speaker 2: Right, didn't they play Michigan State played a college basketball
[27:19] Speaker 2: game in Perrier area.
[27:20] Speaker 1: Yes, So yeah, welcome back Point Seddio ble a beautiful flower.
[27:25] Speaker 1: I'm glad that we get this back.
[27:26] Speaker 2: This is like a weird thing, and I know bulls
[27:28] Speaker 2: aren't what they used to, but it's still weird to me,
[27:32] Speaker 2: or it's been weird for me when we go through
[27:34] Speaker 2: and we talk about bowl games and who's playing and what,
[27:37] Speaker 2: and we haven't been able to talk about this one.
[27:39] Speaker 1: So it's back. I mean going down to that stadium
[27:41] Speaker 1: was always very fun for me from southern California in
[27:43] Speaker 1: the LA area, just because it would be like a
[27:46] Speaker 1: dilapidated Chargers old Padres stadium. You're like, all right, let's
[27:50] Speaker 1: go see Oklahoma State Oregon. Let's see what happens. Ye.
[27:53] Speaker 2: Speaking of stadiums, another setup, Dan Man, we're already in
[27:57] Speaker 2: mid season form here, Okay. We you have a new
[28:00] Speaker 2: stadium situation this year in college football, Ryan Stadium within
[28:06] Speaker 2: walking distance of you.
[28:08] Speaker 1: So is it Ryan Stadium or Ryan Field? What are
[28:10] Speaker 1: they calling it? I think it's just Ryan Field.
[28:12] Speaker 2: What I jotted down Ryan State, You know what I mean.
[28:14] Speaker 2: Northwestern's got a new Ryan Field that's opening on Friday,
[28:17] Speaker 2: October the second against my beloved Penn State and Nitney Lyons.
[28:22] Speaker 2: I think I might try to come out for that one,
[28:23] Speaker 2: though we haven't drawn up official plans yet.
[28:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a long walk, to be clear, I'm not
[28:29] Speaker 1: in the shadow of Ryanfield. You live in the con Yeah,
[28:35] Speaker 1: it's it looks beautiful. I walk by it all the
[28:38] Speaker 1: time when i'm around there. There's a good bakery around there,
[28:41] Speaker 1: so I find myself on Central Street a good amount
[28:44] Speaker 1: of time. If it does open as planned in early October,
[28:47] Speaker 1: because I think originally they wanted it open for the
[28:49] Speaker 1: start of the season. So it's never great when you're like,
[28:51] Speaker 1: well what about early October. It's a Friday night game
[28:54] Speaker 1: against Penn State, so you have, you know, a big
[28:56] Speaker 1: name opponent, big fan base coming in. It looks to
[29:00] Speaker 1: I think it only seats about thirty five thousand. Yeah,
[29:02] Speaker 1: it's smaller, it's a little bit small. Sitelines look great.
[29:05] Speaker 1: I think they're gonna have great concessions and it looks
[29:08] Speaker 1: like it's going to be excellent, So I hope it
[29:10] Speaker 1: all works out for the Cats.
[29:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited they're opening back up. I'm
[29:15] Speaker 2: gonna miss the old portable stadium though.
[29:18] Speaker 1: That was kind of fun. That was fun. The sheer
[29:20] Speaker 1: logistics of that were pretty crazy. I went to two
[29:23] Speaker 1: games there. You and I went and saw Duke play
[29:27] Speaker 1: future ACC champion Duke in the Driving Wind and Rain
[29:31] Speaker 1: off Lake Michigan. Yeah, and I went with our friend
[29:34] Speaker 1: Jeff to the Oregon game last season, a game in
[29:37] Speaker 1: which I learned the Oregon team changed on the nearby
[29:41] Speaker 1: indoor tennis courts as their locker room, so a different experience. Yeah.
[29:46] Speaker 2: This is also supposedly the final year of South Florida
[29:51] Speaker 2: USF playing at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, because they're
[29:55] Speaker 2: also building their own stadium. I think they've had some
[29:58] Speaker 2: delays with that, but at least at time of recording,
[30:01] Speaker 2: it seems like they're on track to jump on over
[30:04] Speaker 2: to their own thing starting in twenty twenty seven. So
[30:07] Speaker 2: we'll keep tabs on that. But when we do this
[30:09] Speaker 2: episode a year from now, we might have another new
[30:11] Speaker 2: stadium to discuss.
[30:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, looks pretty cool. I don't know, can't wait.
[30:17] Speaker 2: Let's get into the people Who. There's a lot of
[30:22] Speaker 2: who going on here. I counted twenty nine new head coaches.
[30:26] Speaker 1: Did you not license any of the music from the
[30:28] Speaker 1: band The Who? I did for this specific segment. We
[30:30] Speaker 1: don't have that in our budget. We do not have
[30:32] Speaker 1: that in the budget.
[30:33] Speaker 2: No, all right, I jotted down twenty nine new coaches.
[30:38] Speaker 2: Like we knew at the start of last year that
[30:41] Speaker 2: the coaching carousel was going to go crazy. We even
[30:44] Speaker 2: built our own version of a game for it. I
[30:47] Speaker 2: don't expect that this coming off season is going to
[30:51] Speaker 2: be nearly as active as we saw this past cycle,
[30:54] Speaker 2: but who knows. Things break all the time. Just a
[30:58] Speaker 2: small sampling of names. Lsu Lane Kiffin Virginia Tech, James Franklin,
[31:04] Speaker 2: Penn State, Matt Campbell, Florida, John summerl Michigan, Michigan, Kyle
[31:09] Speaker 2: Whittingham UCLA, Bobby chez Ole, Miss, Pete Golding Auburn, Alex
[31:15] Speaker 2: golesh Arkansas, Ryan Silverfield, Kentucky, Will Stein Oklahoma State, Eric Morris,
[31:21] Speaker 2: Michigan State, Pat Fitzgerald, Cal Toshlpois Stanford, Tavita Pritchard, South Florida,
[31:27] Speaker 2: Brian Hartline, and James Madison Willy Napier, Billy Napier. When
[31:30] Speaker 2: I say WILLI Napier, I said Willy Napier because underneath
[31:34] Speaker 2: him on my list is Will Hall at Tulane.
[31:38] Speaker 1: There are a bunch others, a bunch others on this list.
[31:40] Speaker 1: Do you want to rapid fire anything interesting about any
[31:42] Speaker 1: of these coaches? Just talking points over Broughtwurst or something.
[31:46] Speaker 2: I mean, where do you start with Lane Kiffin? The
[31:48] Speaker 2: whole Lane Kiffin thing is a talking point?
[31:50] Speaker 1: Okay? Lane Kiffin wanted to keep coaching at his last
[31:54] Speaker 1: school even after he accepted the job at this school
[31:58] Speaker 1: for the duration of the playoffs and was told nowhere good.
[32:01] Speaker 1: James Franklin was fired mid season after leading a team
[32:04] Speaker 1: to the top four the final four of the playoff,
[32:07] Speaker 1: fired mid season after disappointing losses in big and not
[32:10] Speaker 1: so big games. Accepted this job in the middle of
[32:13] Speaker 1: the season, yes, or near the end of the season.
[32:15] Speaker 2: And I should add there has been a windfall of
[32:19] Speaker 2: new money coming into Virginia Tech. Maybe not exclusively because
[32:23] Speaker 2: of James Franklin, but it has definitely been coordinated around
[32:27] Speaker 2: James Franklin in the rebuild of this Virginia Tech program.
[32:29] Speaker 1: So that's been exciting Virginia Tech. I think is maybe
[32:32] Speaker 1: putting together it's best recruiting class ever, like he's always
[32:34] Speaker 1: been able to recruit. So obviously, when you see that
[32:37] Speaker 1: proof of concept, you're gonna keep spending money, because money
[32:40] Speaker 1: and recruiting are one and the same. In this moment,
[32:43] Speaker 1: John Summerl comes over from Tulane to Florida after leading
[32:46] Speaker 1: them to the playoff and a good amount of success.
[32:48] Speaker 1: Kyle Whittingham was a late in the process thing after
[32:50] Speaker 1: Sharon Moore was fired for inappropriate conduct within the athletic department,
[32:54] Speaker 1: and Kyle Whittingham was at Utah forever an older guy
[32:57] Speaker 1: but very successful at Utah. Bob Chesney from a across
[33:00] Speaker 1: the country, also a playoff coach. Pete Golding was the
[33:03] Speaker 1: already at Ole miss and was the interim and had
[33:06] Speaker 1: the interim tag taken off of him. Will Stein was
[33:09] Speaker 1: the offensive coordinated Oregon. Oklahoma State and Eric Morris bring
[33:12] Speaker 1: a bunch of superstar looking offensive players with them from
[33:15] Speaker 1: North Texas. Billy Napier was fired from Florida. He's now
[33:19] Speaker 1: at JMU, which has been the cradle of successful coaches recently,
[33:23] Speaker 1: notably Kurt Signetti going from JMU to Indiana. Kirby Moore
[33:27] Speaker 1: is a really good coach in his own right, coming
[33:29] Speaker 1: over from Miszoo. Also, Kellen Moore's brother going to WAZU.
[33:34] Speaker 1: I didn't mention him when I join to wazo run through. Yeah.
[33:37] Speaker 1: Jason Kandell was at Toledo forever and had a ton
[33:39] Speaker 1: of success. He's now at Yukon taking over Jim Moora.
[33:42] Speaker 1: Jim Moore is at Colorado State. Alex Mortenson at UAB
[33:46] Speaker 1: is the son of Chris Mortenson. Has been a college
[33:49] Speaker 1: football coach for some time now. JaMarcus Shephard a really,
[33:53] Speaker 1: really well regarded receivers coach. He's been at big places.
[33:56] Speaker 1: If you remember those Purdue receivers, JaMarcus Sheppard was there
[33:59] Speaker 1: the great Washington receivers from a couple of years ago.
[34:01] Speaker 1: He had a hand in that. He was at Alabama recently.
[34:04] Speaker 1: He's going to Oregon State. Yes, he's going to Oregon State.
[34:07] Speaker 1: JaMarcus Shepherd taking over there. Ryan Beard was at Missouri
[34:11] Speaker 1: State and helped Shepherd them to their FBS status and
[34:16] Speaker 1: had a good season last year. Does not have a beard,
[34:19] Speaker 1: has had a beard. Yeah, you can call him coach
[34:22] Speaker 1: Beard like the ted Lasso character. But of the pictures
[34:26] Speaker 1: I've seen him in at Coastal Carolina, he has kept
[34:30] Speaker 1: a close shave.
[34:31] Speaker 2: Do you think we need a rule on this, Like,
[34:33] Speaker 2: if you've got beard in the last name, you need
[34:36] Speaker 2: to be now. The counterpoint would be, it may be
[34:41] Speaker 2: harder for some people to grow beards, right, but he can.
[34:45] Speaker 1: I've seen him with a beard.
[34:47] Speaker 2: It's easy for guys to grow a beard, but it
[34:49] Speaker 2: takes more effort if you're a woman, right, and if
[34:51] Speaker 2: you're missus Beard. I think maybe just men named Beard
[34:57] Speaker 2: need to at least dabble with growing the beard. Is
[35:00] Speaker 2: where I'm at.
[35:01] Speaker 1: He has dabbled. He has a good beard, so he's okay.
[35:03] Speaker 1: But I'm saying, moving forward, is.
[35:05] Speaker 2: There a beard rule we can put we can institute
[35:07] Speaker 2: here as part of the It's like quar.
[35:10] Speaker 1: Right that he shouldn't shave until they win, sort of
[35:12] Speaker 1: like Nebraska fans with the balloons exactly, the college basketball
[35:16] Speaker 1: fans who don't cheer until the first basket, okay, or
[35:19] Speaker 1: what's his name at, Sarah Huse who refuses to shower
[35:22] Speaker 1: if you don't win. No, totally cool Brown, Fran Brown. Yeah,
[35:27] Speaker 1: so yeah, a lot of it. I mean, there's a
[35:29] Speaker 1: ton of movement here. Pat Fitzgerald back as a college
[35:32] Speaker 1: football head coach after being fired by Northwestern, speaking of
[35:35] Speaker 1: Ryan Field a few years ago. Now, uh, he's at
[35:38] Speaker 1: Michigan State. Yeah, I mean you'll you'll learn all of
[35:42] Speaker 1: these if you haven't been playing close attention. But yeah,
[35:45] Speaker 1: a lot of new names and faces, some of whom
[35:48] Speaker 1: do or don't have beards. Some other new names.
[35:51] Speaker 2: Charles Davis is stepping in for Gary Danielson as the
[35:54] Speaker 2: lead analyst for CBS.
[35:57] Speaker 1: Yes, that's true. This was like telegraph.
[36:00] Speaker 2: Everybody kind of knew about it last season that this
[36:02] Speaker 2: was going to occur, But it is a little bit
[36:06] Speaker 2: of a different change in the media landscape at time
[36:10] Speaker 2: of recording. I haven't seen if ESPN is going to
[36:12] Speaker 2: jumble any of its announcer teams by hunches. They probably
[36:16] Speaker 2: will by the time this drops, or certainly by the
[36:18] Speaker 2: time the season gets here. But this is one notable name,
[36:23] Speaker 2: one notable addition that we can report now a time
[36:26] Speaker 2: of recording. The other one, and it's not perfectly a
[36:30] Speaker 2: fit for what we're doing here, but it is tangentially related,
[36:33] Speaker 2: and that is Kirk krb Street. It's going to be
[36:35] Speaker 2: replaced by Joel Klatt as the main analyst in the
[36:38] Speaker 2: college football video game. We're trying to be comprehensive here
[36:41] Speaker 2: on this show. Sure, So it Warren's mentioning that Clatt's
[36:44] Speaker 2: going to be in the game now.
[36:46] Speaker 1: This is the like Olive Branch and the demilitarized zone
[36:49] Speaker 1: between the Fox and ESPN, bringing Fowery Clatt together. I
[36:56] Speaker 1: think Holly Rose in the game now, which is kind
[36:57] Speaker 1: of cool, bringing them together the Cold War. Yeah, that
[37:02] Speaker 1: Joel Klatt is, he's bringing people together. Charles Davis, I
[37:06] Speaker 1: want to say Charles Davis was on the Boise to
[37:08] Speaker 1: Oklahoma call with Tom Bradi. Oh yeah, yeah, No.
[37:10] Speaker 2: Charles Davis has called plenty of college games in the past,
[37:13] Speaker 2: but he's been doing NFL for a while and now
[37:16] Speaker 2: he's coming back on under the CBS umbrella on the
[37:19] Speaker 2: college side.
[37:19] Speaker 1: So I think a lot of us have used Gary
[37:23] Speaker 1: Danielson broadcasts on CBS over the years to make sure
[37:26] Speaker 1: our eye muscles are stretched with all the rolling we do.
[37:30] Speaker 1: So we're going to have to find new ways. I
[37:32] Speaker 1: looked it up. Extra ocular muscles are what make sure
[37:36] Speaker 1: your eyes well. Brando.
[37:37] Speaker 2: Brando, I think is still calling games, so we could
[37:39] Speaker 2: we could like watch repeats of those broadcasts.
[37:42] Speaker 1: Right, So if you feel those muscles stagnating atrophying a
[37:45] Speaker 1: little bit, just flip on a Brando joint.
[37:47] Speaker 2: You'll get your work, yeah, or you'll be asleep one
[37:50] Speaker 2: way or the other. Because there's a lot of times
[37:51] Speaker 2: they put him on like those later games later. I
[37:54] Speaker 2: don't think they want people to hear him either.
[37:55] Speaker 1: But yeah, I in all seriousness, I know people criticize
[38:00] Speaker 1: announcers all the time, and I have not been the
[38:02] Speaker 1: biggest fan of that booth recently, so that would be
[38:06] Speaker 1: the brad Nessler Gary Danielson booth. And I've always enjoyed
[38:10] Speaker 1: having Gary Danielson in my life. Oh yeah, one hundred
[38:13] Speaker 1: percent voice. But yeah, I don't want to just kind
[38:18] Speaker 1: of plainly feel everybody's fine. I want to feel like
[38:21] Speaker 1: I have opinions of announcers that sort of change like
[38:24] Speaker 1: a Richter scale. So yeah, happy trails to to Gary Danielson,
[38:28] Speaker 1: who did a ton of work for CBS, and I
[38:31] Speaker 1: hope he has fun as a fan of the sport
[38:33] Speaker 1: on his couch.
[38:33] Speaker 2: We are not affiliated with anybody. We are very much
[38:36] Speaker 2: our own show here and so if we want to
[38:40] Speaker 2: be honest with the reballer hood. We got to give
[38:44] Speaker 2: our opinions of some of these broads. I agrees right like,
[38:47] Speaker 2: we're not living in a vacuum, and they'll we bring
[38:49] Speaker 2: some of these folks on and have definitely heard from
[38:52] Speaker 2: people in the past.
[38:54] Speaker 1: We just got to be honest with the people. By
[38:56] Speaker 1: the way, speaking of announcing announcing changes, I know you
[39:00] Speaker 1: didn't omit this name because I'm not sure we should
[39:03] Speaker 1: fully omit this name. But Jason Bennetti is not at
[39:07] Speaker 1: Fox anymore. Correct He's calling baseball at NBC, and I
[39:12] Speaker 1: think we'll dabble in other sports. So I haven't seen
[39:14] Speaker 1: anything official with how it relates to, you know, maybe
[39:18] Speaker 1: doing like Netflix or whatever, NFL stuff for NBC and
[39:23] Speaker 1: you know, other other networks that are not TV networks
[39:26] Speaker 1: in that same way. But hopefully we have some Bennetti
[39:30] Speaker 1: in our life moving forward with NBC's college football deal.
[39:34] Speaker 1: Love Benetti, good dude, great, So he's not He was
[39:36] Speaker 1: with Brockhwared a couple of years ago and I thought
[39:40] Speaker 1: they were a very very good booth. He was with
[39:42] Speaker 1: RG three last year and I'm always gonna like Benetti
[39:45] Speaker 1: and the best of RG three is fun. So yeah,
[39:48] Speaker 1: I think college football announcing gets worth worse without weekly Benetti.
[39:53] Speaker 1: All right, let's talk transfers. Please.
[39:58] Speaker 2: Where do we want to start with transfers? So full disclosure,
[40:02] Speaker 2: we're working off a shared Google doc right here. And
[40:06] Speaker 2: I went through all of the transfer portal listings and
[40:11] Speaker 2: I went to twenty four to seven for this. The
[40:14] Speaker 2: way that they set up the top transfers for each
[40:16] Speaker 2: position was they gave you like a preview, like the
[40:20] Speaker 2: top twelve, let's say, and then you could click on
[40:23] Speaker 2: the button that says view more and you view more,
[40:25] Speaker 2: and then you get like twelve more, and you click
[40:27] Speaker 2: view more and you get twelve more. I kept going
[40:29] Speaker 2: with quarterbacks. I was like, man, where do I cut
[40:32] Speaker 2: this off? I'm interested in all of these names, but
[40:35] Speaker 2: my hunch is at the Verbeller Hood probably has a cutoff.
[40:38] Speaker 2: Especially for a one oh one episode, we don't necessarily
[40:41] Speaker 2: need to go all the way down to like Walk
[40:43] Speaker 2: or Egot going from San Jose State to Duke. That
[40:46] Speaker 2: might be a bit overkill for a bigger picture episode.
[40:49] Speaker 1: Well, guess what you just did? I just Johnny did
[40:52] Speaker 1: I just did? Anyway? I'm sorry? Right, you want to
[40:54] Speaker 1: talk some cutter bowlie. I don't know if that rises
[40:56] Speaker 1: to the one oh one level here that we're going for.
[40:58] Speaker 2: Yes, I've got a long list of candidates on this thing,
[41:02] Speaker 2: at quarterback, running back, wide receiver. I didn't Detych probably
[41:06] Speaker 2: should have done tight end, but a bunch of defensive linemen, linebackers,
[41:10] Speaker 2: defensive backs, you name it. I didn't do offensive lineman.
[41:14] Speaker 2: Jordan Seaton's the big name there. But where where do
[41:17] Speaker 2: we start here?
[41:18] Speaker 1: Where do we start? I guess with quarterbacks? Right, Yeah,
[41:22] Speaker 1: quarterback was interesting this year. Obviously, there's a number of
[41:24] Speaker 1: notable names. Sam Levitt is the final quarterback that LSU
[41:30] Speaker 1: was able. They tripped a couple of different quarterbacks, but
[41:33] Speaker 1: Sam Levitt, who is a playoff quarterback coming off of
[41:35] Speaker 1: a pretty significant foot injury for ASU, obviously took them
[41:39] Speaker 1: to the playoff a couple of years ago. He is
[41:41] Speaker 1: going to be Lane Kiffin's presumed starting quarterback pending health recovery,
[41:46] Speaker 1: so he'll be at LSU. But basically, like look, if
[41:50] Speaker 1: you root for or know of teams who have been
[41:53] Speaker 1: to the playoff, have playoff aspirations or are spending like
[41:56] Speaker 1: they'd like to be a playoff team, they likely landed
[41:59] Speaker 1: what they hope a game changing offensive weapon quarterback, running back, receiver. So,
[42:04] Speaker 1: like ASU, Miami has Duke's quarterback and that was a
[42:08] Speaker 1: sort of contractual dispute near the end of the process,
[42:12] Speaker 1: as Miami very much in the market for a quarterback
[42:14] Speaker 1: who is of playoff caliber because around him is a
[42:17] Speaker 1: lot on both sides of the ball. Roster wise, two,
[42:19] Speaker 1: once again go to the college football playoff. We mentioned
[42:23] Speaker 1: the North Texas situation with Eric Morris going from North
[42:25] Speaker 1: Texas Oklahoma State. Drew Mestemaker was very much in demand
[42:29] Speaker 1: as a huge breakthrough quarterback last season, throwing for a
[42:33] Speaker 1: ton helped to develop receivers in the running game around him.
[42:37] Speaker 1: A lot of that is going to Oklahoma State, who
[42:39] Speaker 1: is investing in its program in a way that they
[42:42] Speaker 1: haven't necessarily these past few years. Dylan Royola was a
[42:45] Speaker 1: big five star name for Nebraska. He's gonna be Oregon's
[42:48] Speaker 1: backup quarterback.
[42:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, this was a really interesting one, right, So the
[42:52] Speaker 2: Levitt move we saw coming, obviously, the mess to Maker
[42:56] Speaker 2: thing makes a ton of sense. He's following his coach.
[43:00] Speaker 2: The Darien Mensa thing, you mentioned it briefly, but Duke
[43:02] Speaker 2: to Miami. There were some contractual hiccups, let's say, with
[43:07] Speaker 2: regard to that, but the Riola move, the Riola transfer,
[43:12] Speaker 2: I think caught a lot of people by surprise when
[43:14] Speaker 2: he announced intentions to go into the transfer portal. There
[43:16] Speaker 2: were a lot of potential suitors out there that were mentioned,
[43:20] Speaker 2: but him ultimately going to Oregon kind of following the
[43:23] Speaker 2: Dante Moore model before.
[43:25] Speaker 1: Him sitting in a year.
[43:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, how Dante Moore went to Oregon, transferred up,
[43:31] Speaker 2: sat for a year behind Dylan Gabriel, And now here
[43:35] Speaker 2: we got another Dylan going to Oregon who's going to
[43:38] Speaker 2: sit behind Dante Moore for a years? So listen in
[43:41] Speaker 2: a year, in a day and age in college football,
[43:45] Speaker 2: where having any kind of quarterback depth is very much
[43:49] Speaker 2: at a premium because no one has it, Oregon now
[43:53] Speaker 2: has a bit of a war chest at the quarterback position.
[43:56] Speaker 2: God forbid something happens to Dante, they can go to
[43:59] Speaker 2: Dylan Roola, who's coming off injury but also has a
[44:02] Speaker 2: ton of game experience.
[44:03] Speaker 1: He played in the spring. He looks like he's healed.
[44:06] Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza is being replaced by Josh Hoover, who put
[44:10] Speaker 1: up a number of big stats at TCU in a
[44:13] Speaker 1: very past happy offense. There was a little back and
[44:15] Speaker 1: forth about his turnovers, but certainly when you see what
[44:18] Speaker 1: Indiana has done with regard to quarterback development, Josh Hoover
[44:21] Speaker 1: is expected to have a big season for the defending
[44:24] Speaker 1: national champions. DJ Lagway, former five star, was a big
[44:28] Speaker 1: deal for Billy Napier at Florida when he was able
[44:32] Speaker 1: to secure that commitment. He's now headed back to his
[44:35] Speaker 1: home state and will play for Baylor. Rock o'beck follows
[44:39] Speaker 1: the coaching staff and all a number of Iowa State
[44:41] Speaker 1: players going from Iowa State Matt Campbell to Penn State,
[44:45] Speaker 1: and so he's expected to take that next step, whatever
[44:47] Speaker 1: that is for him. Byron Brown does the same thing
[44:49] Speaker 1: with Alex Golesh moving from USF to Auburn. Grunk is
[44:53] Speaker 1: following James Grunk. Yeah, I can call him Grunkmeyer. James
[44:57] Speaker 1: Franklin to Virginia Tech from Penn State. There's some backup
[45:01] Speaker 1: situations and other names that will be starters that are
[45:04] Speaker 1: not household names at the moment. But that leaves us
[45:07] Speaker 1: with Brendan Sorosby. Soorsby was one of the big gets
[45:12] Speaker 1: in the transfer portal.
[45:13] Speaker 2: If you believe this list I've gotten in front of me,
[45:15] Speaker 2: he was the second best quarterback in the portal. So
[45:18] Speaker 2: Texas Tech wanted an upgrade there. They believe they've got
[45:20] Speaker 2: the best roster in the Big twelve, and I happened
[45:22] Speaker 2: to agree. But they needed the quarterback. They needed the
[45:26] Speaker 2: upgrade at quarterback. It came out that Brendon Sorsby had
[45:29] Speaker 2: been gambling on college football more broadly speaking, had bet
[45:33] Speaker 2: on all sorts of stuff, from balls and strikes to
[45:36] Speaker 2: how his team was doing in Indiana when he was
[45:38] Speaker 2: there his own team.
[45:39] Speaker 1: Yes, to be clear, his own team. He was wagering
[45:42] Speaker 1: on his own team, which has been a sort of
[45:44] Speaker 1: an uncrossable red line in sports of all levels.
[45:49] Speaker 2: Initially, initially, Brendon Sorsby was out. Brennon Sorsby was out,
[45:55] Speaker 2: done for the year, in effect done for his college career,
[45:58] Speaker 2: going to go into the NFL supplemental Draft. But through
[46:01] Speaker 2: the court system, Brendan Soorsby won a temporary injunction, So
[46:06] Speaker 2: for a moment in time, it looked like Sorsby would
[46:09] Speaker 2: only have to sit out two games but would be
[46:11] Speaker 2: able to play out the rest of the season afterwards.
[46:14] Speaker 1: Then all hell broke loose. We had legal threats coming
[46:17] Speaker 1: from far and wide.
[46:18] Speaker 2: Someone had the wherewithal to realize that this situation was
[46:22] Speaker 2: simply not tenable, which is the point at which both
[46:26] Speaker 2: Tech and Soresby mutually parted ways. Soorsby then said he
[46:30] Speaker 2: wanted to go into the supplemental Draft, but the NFL said, no,
[46:34] Speaker 2: tl DR, your starting quarterback at least for the moment
[46:38] Speaker 2: at Texas Tech in twenty twenty six, will be Will
[46:41] Speaker 2: Hammond and not Brendan Soorsby. Yep, I will give you
[46:44] Speaker 2: three other quarterback names that I am very interested in.
[46:46] Speaker 2: We cannot run through this full list. It would take
[46:48] Speaker 2: us an eternity, but three names that are very interested
[46:52] Speaker 2: in seeing how they perform at their new locations. In
[46:55] Speaker 2: addition to the ones you already mentioned, Austin Simmons has
[46:58] Speaker 2: already been named the starting quarterback at Miss Zoo. He
[47:00] Speaker 2: comes over from Old Miss. Obviously, Trinidad Chambers is still
[47:03] Speaker 2: at Old Miss, but uh, Trinidad Chambliss. His success meant
[47:09] Speaker 2: that Austin Simmons needed to go somewhere else if he
[47:11] Speaker 2: wanted to play. Missouri is going to be that place.
[47:13] Speaker 2: Curious to see how he Translates.
[47:15] Speaker 1: Also sued for eligibility also season, Yes Trinidad. He was
[47:19] Speaker 1: a D two transfer dealing with injuries at his previous
[47:24] Speaker 1: place that cost him time playing, and so he sued
[47:28] Speaker 1: and was able to get an injunction to continue playing
[47:31] Speaker 1: for ole Miss and Pete holding right Trinidad Chamblas Trinidad Chambliss.
[47:35] Speaker 1: That is not Austin Simmons.
[47:37] Speaker 2: The other name here for me is Aaron Filo. I
[47:41] Speaker 2: don't know if Aaron Filo at time of recording is
[47:43] Speaker 2: going to be QB one at Florida, but Aaron Filo
[47:47] Speaker 2: follows from Georgia tech buster Faulkner, the offensive coordinator who
[47:52] Speaker 2: is going to be coordinating things under the new regime
[47:54] Speaker 2: at Florida. Curious to see if if Filo gets on
[47:58] Speaker 2: the field and what that could mean. I happened to
[48:00] Speaker 2: like Florida more than seemingly. Most people will get to.
[48:03] Speaker 1: That when we talk about our sec previews stuff.
[48:05] Speaker 2: Okay, yes, and the final name on my list may
[48:07] Speaker 2: be a little bit of home cooking here, But Kenny
[48:09] Speaker 2: minshe Kenny Minshe.
[48:13] Speaker 1: Has no surprise to anyone. Wanted to get some playing time.
[48:16] Speaker 2: Initially committed to Nebraska, shortly thereafter decided he wanted to
[48:21] Speaker 2: follow will Stein.
[48:23] Speaker 1: Do you want to mention who Kenny minsche is because
[48:25] Speaker 1: he's a quarterback who has never thrown a meaningful college book.
[48:28] Speaker 2: I am getting there the reason I say home cooking.
[48:30] Speaker 2: Kenny Minshe was the guy who lost out to CJ.
[48:34] Speaker 2: Carr at Notre Dame. And if you listen to some
[48:37] Speaker 2: of the Beat riders and read some of the Beat
[48:39] Speaker 2: reports in advanced the twenty five season, there were a
[48:42] Speaker 2: lot of folks who believe that Kenny Minschee actually beat CJ.
[48:45] Speaker 1: Carr out. CJ.
[48:47] Speaker 2: Carr worked out pretty well. I think Notre Dame feels
[48:50] Speaker 2: pretty good about that decision.
[48:51] Speaker 1: CJ. Car is going to be the guy. CJ.
[48:53] Speaker 2: Carr is one of the top five candidates for the
[48:56] Speaker 2: Heisman going into the new year. But Kenny minsche now
[48:59] Speaker 2: gets an opportunity to start full time in the SEC
[49:02] Speaker 2: for Will Stein in a system that's been very good
[49:05] Speaker 2: for quarterbacks.
[49:05] Speaker 1: So we'll see what you can do in Kentucky. Yeah, absolutely, yeah,
[49:09] Speaker 1: there's I mean, this is going to be an annual tradition,
[49:11] Speaker 1: the number of quarterbacks moving around the country in search
[49:15] Speaker 1: of opportunity or a better opportunity. Texas went big with
[49:19] Speaker 1: offensive skill in the portal. Again, I'm just sort of
[49:22] Speaker 1: echoing myself at the beginning of this segment. If you
[49:25] Speaker 1: root for a team, if you're familiar with teams who
[49:27] Speaker 1: have championship aspirations, they are probably spending big in the
[49:31] Speaker 1: portal to improve certain gaps on their roster. And yeah,
[49:37] Speaker 1: when you look around, none of this is a surprise.
[49:39] Speaker 1: All of the names Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Texas, A
[49:41] Speaker 1: and m Oklahoma, they all spent. So that's the sort
[49:45] Speaker 1: of reality in the sport.
[49:47] Speaker 2: The really big names, Okay, and I will not do
[49:50] Speaker 2: position by position because all of the team and conference
[49:53] Speaker 2: previews are to come. Yes, we will unpack these once
[49:57] Speaker 2: we get down onto the team level. But some of
[50:00] Speaker 2: the really big names that commanded high prices. Cam Coleman
[50:05] Speaker 2: you mentioned Texas. Cam Coleman was wide receiver one in
[50:09] Speaker 2: this portal class. Cam Coleman comes over to Texas seemingly
[50:13] Speaker 2: to give arch Manning the target that he needs out wide.
[50:16] Speaker 2: That is certainly going to be a name that we're
[50:18] Speaker 2: going to need to follow. I mentioned him on one
[50:20] Speaker 2: of our offseason shows. I really like o Marion Miller
[50:23] Speaker 2: the wide receiver who goes to Arizona State from Colorado.
[50:26] Speaker 2: Obviously it's not going to be a situation where arch
[50:28] Speaker 2: Manning is throwing to him. We can get into Arizona
[50:31] Speaker 2: State and it's quarterback battle once we get to Arizona State.
[50:35] Speaker 2: The other really big name that i'd call out here
[50:38] Speaker 2: who committed very quickly. I thought Notre Dame might have
[50:41] Speaker 2: a shot at him. But Nick Marsh transfers out of
[50:44] Speaker 2: Michigan State and he is going to join up with
[50:47] Speaker 2: Kurt Signetti and Josh Hoover at Indiana.
[50:49] Speaker 1: The other by the way, the other big transfer story,
[50:51] Speaker 1: and again this stuff kind of gets lost. This is
[50:54] Speaker 1: just a bigger picture thing. And we mentioned the Darien
[50:57] Speaker 1: Mensa thing a couple of years ago. We had the
[50:59] Speaker 1: Xavier was at the Wisconsin corner who made his way
[51:02] Speaker 1: to Miami. The other big transfer story that sort of
[51:05] Speaker 1: seemed like it might have reverberations is Demon Williams at Washington,
[51:09] Speaker 1: who had an extremely promising year as their starting quarterback,
[51:14] Speaker 1: announced intentions to transfer and enter the portal with a
[51:19] Speaker 1: lot of conversation around him being the new LSU quarterback,
[51:23] Speaker 1: at which point Washington expressed that they would exercise all
[51:28] Speaker 1: of their litigation options, given that he had just signed
[51:32] Speaker 1: his rev share deal with the Huskies, and the timing
[51:36] Speaker 1: was particularly bad with tragedy within the athletic department at
[51:39] Speaker 1: the University of Washington, I believe it with a soccer
[51:41] Speaker 1: player passing super tragic and he claims he got bad advice.
[51:47] Speaker 1: His representation parted ways with him, and he looked at
[51:51] Speaker 1: his options and what might happen with his career legally
[51:57] Speaker 1: with regard to payment and everything, and decided to turned
[52:00] Speaker 1: to Washington. So he is going to be the starting
[52:03] Speaker 1: quarterback once again for Jetfish and the Huskies, and hopefully
[52:07] Speaker 1: just for the sake of their own success, that everybody
[52:10] Speaker 1: has sort of moved past that situation. I'm going to
[52:13] Speaker 1: give you a couple names here real quick. I'm not
[52:14] Speaker 1: going to go through this whole list.
[52:15] Speaker 2: There's a lot of names in this list, but I'm
[52:17] Speaker 2: going to give you a couple names that I think
[52:19] Speaker 2: are of note, just to stash away, just to remember
[52:23] Speaker 2: when we come back to previews. Since we're talking about
[52:27] Speaker 2: wide receivers. Here are a couple names we already mentioned
[52:30] Speaker 2: a few. Eric Singleton junior back on the move going
[52:33] Speaker 2: to Florida from Auburn. Remember he was a big transfer
[52:35] Speaker 2: from Georgia Tech to Auburn. Now he is going to
[52:38] Speaker 2: Florida to give them another weapon out wide. I actually
[52:41] Speaker 2: really like their roster. I think they've got a pretty
[52:43] Speaker 2: good roster on offense, provided it hits at a quarterback.
[52:47] Speaker 2: I think Florida could be a fun experiment. So Eric
[52:49] Speaker 2: Singleton junior back on the move. I think he is
[52:52] Speaker 2: a name of note. Cooper Barkett is a name going
[52:55] Speaker 2: from Duke to Miami. He is following Darien Mensa. Sure
[52:59] Speaker 2: gives Miami enough Harvard Harvard to Duke to Miami. A
[53:03] Speaker 2: smart guy, a smart guy, and has a quarterback literally
[53:07] Speaker 2: named Mensa Mensa. Pretty good. This is not bad at all. Yeah,
[53:11] Speaker 2: not bad at all. Another name here that I think
[53:14] Speaker 2: is notable. I like the JJ Buchanan transfer from Utah
[53:20] Speaker 2: to Michigan follows Kyle Whittingham. He's a guy they're going
[53:23] Speaker 2: to use in a bunch of different ways.
[53:24] Speaker 1: Get used to that name at running back.
[53:27] Speaker 2: Justice Haynes going to Georgia Tech, which means we still
[53:30] Speaker 2: have something of a Haines your Way.
[53:31] Speaker 1: Backfield, though not a double Haynes situation like last year,
[53:34] Speaker 1: transferring in from Michigan before that at Bama. Correct memory service.
[53:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, you mentioned the coup of Eric Morris bringing Drew
[53:44] Speaker 2: Mestamaker with him to Oklahoma State. He is also bringing
[53:48] Speaker 2: his running back Caleb Hawkins, who is a truck with
[53:52] Speaker 2: him from North Texas in addition to White Young their
[53:56] Speaker 2: wide receiver, so he got the full three headed.
[53:59] Speaker 1: Monster coming to Oklahoma State. I'm also excited about Oklahoma State.
[54:02] Speaker 1: That's why I bring them up. Yes, you mentioned Texas earlier.
[54:05] Speaker 2: They've got an interesting tandem now at running back as
[54:08] Speaker 2: they go for both Hollywood Smothers from NC State as
[54:12] Speaker 2: well as ray Leak Brown from Arizona State, two guys
[54:14] Speaker 2: who had a pretty good season the year prior that
[54:17] Speaker 2: I think could definitely make an impact. And I will
[54:19] Speaker 2: close this one out again. There are many other names,
[54:22] Speaker 2: but one that I called out earlier in our off
[54:25] Speaker 2: season here is Adam Mohammad, who oh yeah, figured to
[54:30] Speaker 2: be the starting running back at Washington but transfers down
[54:32] Speaker 2: to Cal and he's going to join up with Tosh Willpoy,
[54:35] Speaker 2: their new coach.
[54:36] Speaker 1: Correct who is an alum and former assistant at Cal
[54:40] Speaker 1: and so has already proven himself to be a dogged
[54:43] Speaker 1: recruiter both in the portal and doing well in the
[54:46] Speaker 1: prep ranks. So a lot of energy around Cal, both
[54:49] Speaker 1: in the portal and otherwise.
[54:52] Speaker 2: A handful of big names on defense. Prince will Uman
[54:56] Speaker 2: Mialen leaving Old Miss going with link yep ed Rusher,
[55:01] Speaker 2: Ed Rusher going to be at LSU Florida, to Ole
[55:04] Speaker 2: Miss to LSU is Flida, Ole.
[55:05] Speaker 1: Miss, LSU.
[55:07] Speaker 2: My three linebackers, Kid Uluave going from CAL to BYU,
[55:11] Speaker 2: I think is a sure thing.
[55:14] Speaker 1: Very productive and has had a really great history of
[55:17] Speaker 1: recent linebackers at YU. Austin Romaine.
[55:19] Speaker 2: I won't make the Lettus joke on this show, maybe
[55:22] Speaker 2: on one when we talk about Texas Tech, but a
[55:24] Speaker 2: very productive linebacker sliding down to Texas Tech from k State,
[55:29] Speaker 2: maybe to fill that role led by left by.
[55:31] Speaker 1: J Rod Jacob Rodriguez. But we'll be next to Ben
[55:35] Speaker 1: Roberts correct to be one of the best linebacker tandems,
[55:38] Speaker 1: not just in the Big twelve but in the country.
[55:40] Speaker 2: And my guy Caleb Bacon leaving Iowa State going with
[55:45] Speaker 2: Matt Campbell going to be playing linebacker at Penn State.
[55:48] Speaker 2: A really really good linebacker room at Penn State this year. Yes,
[55:52] Speaker 2: and the close things out on the transfer side again,
[55:54] Speaker 2: I cannot list all of these names, but Coy Parrish,
[55:57] Speaker 2: big name from Minnesota going to Oregon in safety.
[56:01] Speaker 1: Yes, very athletic, played a little offense last year from Minnesota,
[56:04] Speaker 1: will be I think a center field type for Oregon.
[56:07] Speaker 1: He won't occupy the Dylan Theeneman type all over the
[56:10] Speaker 1: field in the box kind of role, but should be
[56:12] Speaker 1: a nice addition for what looks like a pretty stack secondary.
[56:16] Speaker 2: At the risk of listing off too many names and
[56:19] Speaker 2: maybe putting those dreary eyes to sleep, let's shift gears
[56:25] Speaker 2: a little bit and let's close this out by talking
[56:27] Speaker 2: about some of the bigger storylines broadly speaking, that we
[56:31] Speaker 2: are following throughout the course now of this twenty twenty
[56:34] Speaker 2: sixth season. I can tell you one off the top
[56:36] Speaker 2: of my head. I did have this jotted down as
[56:39] Speaker 2: something that is changing, but I also think it's worth
[56:42] Speaker 2: noting as a storyline. It took us now close to
[56:47] Speaker 2: an hour to get into the SEC and the ACC
[56:50] Speaker 2: moving to nine conference games now. Could have mentioned it earlier,
[56:55] Speaker 2: had it mentioned in the earlier block. Saved it for
[56:58] Speaker 2: now because this is very much a storyline people are
[57:01] Speaker 2: going to be talking about.
[57:02] Speaker 1: So the SEC, you're always talking about edging, What is
[57:05] Speaker 1: that exactly? Settle, just waiting for the good stuff continue.
[57:10] Speaker 1: The SEC is going to a nine game slate this year.
[57:14] Speaker 1: Every team in the SEC has to play every other
[57:18] Speaker 1: SEC team once every two years and every opponent home
[57:24] Speaker 1: and away over four years. So they're setting this up
[57:28] Speaker 1: sixteen teams now in the conference. Everyone's got to play everyone,
[57:31] Speaker 1: and there's got to be a better rotation for home
[57:33] Speaker 1: and away. Nine conference games makes that a little bit
[57:36] Speaker 1: more doable with regard to how they schedule. It was
[57:40] Speaker 1: harder under eight, now it's easier under nine. Did you
[57:43] Speaker 1: see that there was a I don't know if it
[57:45] Speaker 1: was a tweet or whatever, so there was a social
[57:47] Speaker 1: media post that said, because the World Cup is happening
[57:50] Speaker 1: right now, I guess Argentina is in Texas somewhere, that
[57:54] Speaker 1: they played a friendly at Kyle Field, and that MESSI
[57:57] Speaker 1: was able to play at Texas A and M for Georgia.
[58:00] Speaker 1: That's right, which I enjoyed very much.
[58:03] Speaker 2: The reason that this is more of a storyline than
[58:06] Speaker 2: it is in the change section of this one on
[58:09] Speaker 2: one episode, it's because some SEC coaches claim that they
[58:14] Speaker 2: feel misled over the move. They thought maybe it would
[58:17] Speaker 2: be paired with further playoff expansion, because you know, we've
[58:20] Speaker 2: joked off season about the gauntlet of the SEC. In
[58:25] Speaker 2: addition to those nine conference games, SEC teams are still
[58:29] Speaker 2: required to schedule at least one additional quote unquote high
[58:34] Speaker 2: quality non conference opponent from one of the other power
[58:37] Speaker 2: conferences or Notre Dame each season.
[58:39] Speaker 1: So it's a tough slate. Look, we're not going to
[58:41] Speaker 1: we make the jokes. It's a tough conference. Yeah, it's
[58:44] Speaker 1: a really tough conference to make their way through.
[58:47] Speaker 2: So I understand the perspective of coaches if they feel
[58:51] Speaker 2: a bit jilted over this, because it's going to be
[58:54] Speaker 2: a slug.
[58:55] Speaker 1: It's going to be tough to get through an SEC.
[58:57] Speaker 1: SC say it it's a gunlet we should have a
[59:02] Speaker 1: sound at this point. We got to make it all
[59:05] Speaker 1: we got.
[59:05] Speaker 2: We gotta cook one up in time for SEC preview
[59:09] Speaker 2: and if people want to send their own version of
[59:11] Speaker 2: it in solid verbal at gmail dot com. Yeah, absolutely,
[59:15] Speaker 2: the ACC is also doing this. I don't it's you know,
[59:17] Speaker 2: not as much of a talking point as it is
[59:20] Speaker 2: on the SEC side.
[59:21] Speaker 1: Just because it took them forever to get there.
[59:24] Speaker 2: But the ACC moving to nine conference games twenty twenty six,
[59:28] Speaker 2: not everybody's going to be playing non conference nine conference
[59:31] Speaker 2: games right away, and that is mainly because they want
[59:34] Speaker 2: to accommodate some of the non con games that were
[59:36] Speaker 2: already on the books. But they'll eventually all get there.
[59:39] Speaker 2: It's just it might take a season or two before
[59:42] Speaker 2: they can sort of work through the old scheduling stuff.
[59:45] Speaker 1: And it'll give us more data points for the ACC
[59:49] Speaker 1: who had tiebreaker issues last season. So hopefully this I mean,
[59:56] Speaker 1: I think the ACC is going to update what their
[59:58] Speaker 1: tiebreakers look like to make the conference championship game because
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: it needs to be updated. But yeah, with additional games,
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: we will have more data points to have a more
[1:00:07] Speaker 1: accurate tiebreaker hopefully.
[1:00:09] Speaker 2: And I would say more broadly, as we talk about
[1:00:12] Speaker 2: this nine game thing, and the coaches in the SEC
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: may be feeling like there was some miscommunication or misunderstanding.
[1:00:21] Speaker 2: There is an ongoing negotiation that everybody knows about between
[1:00:25] Speaker 2: the Big Ten and the SEC over the future of
[1:00:30] Speaker 2: the college football playoff. Right will they expand will they
[1:00:33] Speaker 2: not expand? The SEC seems to be more in the
[1:00:35] Speaker 2: camp of going to sixteen, the Big Ten and Tony
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: Petiti want to go all the way up to twenty four.
[1:00:41] Speaker 2: We may have resolution to that by the end of
[1:00:43] Speaker 2: this year, or it could just stay the same again
[1:00:46] Speaker 2: going into the twenty seventh season. But just know, as
[1:00:50] Speaker 2: we're talking about storylines and things that are going to
[1:00:53] Speaker 2: pop up and over and over and over again, whether
[1:00:55] Speaker 2: you like it or not, this ongoing like it's not
[1:00:59] Speaker 2: even a Cold war. They just have differing visions for
[1:01:02] Speaker 2: where they want to take the sport. Wherever it goes next,
[1:01:05] Speaker 2: it has to be agreed upon by both the Big
[1:01:07] Speaker 2: Ten and the SEC, otherwise it's going to be a
[1:01:09] Speaker 2: non starter.
[1:01:10] Speaker 1: I think we can all agree that we're looking forward
[1:01:13] Speaker 1: to a President's Day national championship, right, I think we
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: can all agree in February President's Day, deep into February.
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: I think we can all agree that this is what
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: the founding fathers of this sport had in mind when
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: they said, let's let's play some college football and let's
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: have it last eight months. Yeah, why don't we close
[1:01:35] Speaker 1: this out by talking about some odds? All right? I mean, yes,
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: speaking of Brendon sorosby, let's hit it. Let's talk some ods.
[1:01:41] Speaker 2: Here is your top ten at time of recording, per
[1:01:45] Speaker 2: the odds for the National Championship. Ohio State is your
[1:01:51] Speaker 2: favorite at plus six point fifty. It means if you
[1:01:54] Speaker 2: bet ten bucks, you get sixty five back.
[1:01:56] Speaker 1: All go about new behind the scenes with Ohio State,
[1:01:58] Speaker 1: by the way, hiring an NFL former NFL head coached
[1:02:01] Speaker 1: run the offense, losing the best receivers coach in the
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: country A lot new, lot old should be fun. Notre
[1:02:07] Speaker 1: Dame is your next favorite at seven to one plus
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: seven hundred. This makes me very nervous as a Notre Dame.
[1:02:14] Speaker 2: Fan, very nervous, but I get it, and I like,
[1:02:17] Speaker 2: I'm looking at these other teams and I'm thinking, man,
[1:02:19] Speaker 2: you can't. You can't put them realistically outside the top
[1:02:22] Speaker 2: five with this roster.
[1:02:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, made it to the championship game two seasons ago.
[1:02:27] Speaker 2: Both Indiana and Texas are at plus seven point fifty
[1:02:30] Speaker 2: seven and a half to one bet ten bucks get
[1:02:32] Speaker 2: seventy five back if they win. Indiana is still in
[1:02:36] Speaker 2: there in the conversation as well, they should be Texas
[1:02:39] Speaker 2: very much in the conversation. Arch Manning loaded up in
[1:02:42] Speaker 2: the transfer portal very very good roster bringing back, bringing
[1:02:45] Speaker 2: back Will mush Champ to coach defense defense. Yeah, very
[1:02:48] Speaker 2: aggressive and attacking as it were. And then to round
[1:02:52] Speaker 2: out the top five, it's your it's our Oregon Ducks
[1:02:54] Speaker 2: at eight to one.
[1:02:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, deservedly so made the final four last season. Yep.
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: We don't need to talk. I was gonna say, how
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: did do we want to go into this?
[1:03:03] Speaker 2: Dan? We talked all day.
[1:03:04] Speaker 1: Oh, we got a lot more stuff to talk about.
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: We don't need to waste our time with that.
[1:03:07] Speaker 2: To route out your top ten, we got Georgia at
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: ten to one, Miami at thirteen to one, LSU at
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: sixteen to one.
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: Wow.
[1:03:14] Speaker 2: Texas Tech also at sixteen to one, still hanging in
[1:03:16] Speaker 2: there despite some of the you know, controversy, lost like.
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: A lot of firepower on that defensive line last season.
[1:03:23] Speaker 2: I'm yeah, well we'll get to that. But still in
[1:03:26] Speaker 2: the conversation, right, still very good, really. And to round
[1:03:29] Speaker 2: out the top ten right now, it's Texas A and
[1:03:31] Speaker 2: M at eighteen to one.
[1:03:33] Speaker 1: Yep. So it's one two three, four SEC teams one
[1:03:37] Speaker 1: two three, I think just three Big ten teams, an
[1:03:42] Speaker 1: ACC team, a Big twelve team, and an independent team.
[1:03:45] Speaker 2: Speaking of the G six, cared adventure. I guess as
[1:03:50] Speaker 2: to the best odds for a G six team or a.
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: Group, No, we got to just looked at it, and
[1:03:55] Speaker 1: I'm not a good actor. It's in our document. But uh,
[1:03:58] Speaker 1: Boise State NEWPAC twelve program, it's right, So that's weird.
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: That is weird to say. Yeah, by the way, and
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: I think the PAC twelve I believe you can fact
[1:04:06] Speaker 1: check me on this. For basketball added Gonzaga. Yeah, okay,
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: that's new. Everybody changing banners.
[1:04:13] Speaker 2: Boise's date three hundred to one, so Vegas not expecting
[1:04:17] Speaker 2: the Broncos to make any kind of real championship run,
[1:04:19] Speaker 2: but relevant, I think as it relates to the playoff,
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: given that we've got a little bit of a new
[1:04:23] Speaker 2: setup here, right, highest ranked G six team is get
[1:04:26] Speaker 2: in right now. The odds on favorite for that is
[1:04:28] Speaker 2: the Boise State Broncos. Yes, UNLV and USF are at
[1:04:33] Speaker 2: five hundred to one, very very tall odds, but again
[1:04:39] Speaker 2: mindful of the situation, notable to mention it here. And
[1:04:43] Speaker 2: we've also got San Diego State, Navy and Memphis at
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: six hundred.
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, San Diego State, PAC twelve, Navy and Memphis from
[1:04:49] Speaker 1: the American obviously all teams who have had a good
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: amount of success the past few years.
[1:04:54] Speaker 2: I also jotted down for each Power conference the odds
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: of winning that that specific conference, that conference. Yeah, you
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: want to run through those quick. I did about like
[1:05:04] Speaker 2: five or six for each conference.
[1:05:06] Speaker 1: All right, I'll just go through the odds on favorites
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: to make that conference championship game. If that makes yeah,
[1:05:12] Speaker 1: that makes us.
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: So.
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: Miami and SMU are the two favorites in the ACC,
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: with Louisville just trailing SMU. In the Big Twelve. It's
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: a repeat of Texas BYU with Texas Utah. Excuse me,
[1:05:23] Speaker 1: Texas Tech BYU in the Big twelve, with Utah nipping
[1:05:26] Speaker 1: at BYU's heels in the Holy War situation in the
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: Big ten, Ohio State and Indiana with Oregon nipping at
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: Indiana's heels to make the plus two to fifteen plus
[1:05:37] Speaker 1: two sixty to make the Big Ten championship game. Georgia
[1:05:40] Speaker 1: and Texas with a distant A and M and Alabama
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: behind them to win the ACC or at least you know,
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: Georgia and Texas are the odds on favorites to make
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: the SEC championship game.
[1:05:50] Speaker 2: LSU nine to one to win the SEC is kind
[1:05:53] Speaker 2: of interesting to me, and Alabama at plus eight fifty
[1:05:56] Speaker 2: is also interesting to me.
[1:05:58] Speaker 1: I like Alabama this year, an Ole miss team who
[1:06:02] Speaker 1: was in the Final four and within a I guess
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: a very physical play at the end of the game
[1:06:06] Speaker 1: against Miami to make the championship game. Last year with
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: a then first time head coach in the College Football Playoff,
[1:06:14] Speaker 1: there aret a plus eleven hundred eleven to one to
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: win the SEC. They do lose a good amount, but
[1:06:19] Speaker 1: as we mentioned, return Tonidad Chambliss bigger picture to put
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: a bow in this thing, we're going to be starting
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: up previews. The way that we have.
[1:06:31] Speaker 2: Shaped our previews over the last couple of years is
[1:06:34] Speaker 2: we do a show for half of the G six
[1:06:40] Speaker 2: in Part one, the other half of the G six
[1:06:42] Speaker 2: in Part two. The Power conferences get one episode that
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: is sort of a bigger picture overview themes tiers yea,
[1:06:52] Speaker 2: how we're feeling about just broader talking points within each conference.
[1:06:57] Speaker 2: And then we've got an additional two episodes where we
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: split it down the middle. We talk about half the
[1:07:02] Speaker 2: teams in one the other half in the other. That's
[1:07:06] Speaker 2: more team preview based, So we really go as you know,
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: pretty deep. We do our best to give you the
[1:07:12] Speaker 2: talking points that you need and also the storylines that
[1:07:17] Speaker 2: we think are going to emerge within each conference, but
[1:07:19] Speaker 2: bigger picture, looking at the sport as a whole, the
[1:07:24] Speaker 2: common themes.
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: That you that I have found.
[1:07:28] Speaker 2: In our studies here, We're not going to hit them all,
[1:07:32] Speaker 2: but what are the things? What are the themes that
[1:07:34] Speaker 2: are of interest to you as we record this, as
[1:07:38] Speaker 2: we put this out there in you know, July, middle
[1:07:41] Speaker 2: of summer.
[1:07:42] Speaker 1: I mean the main theme, and I said this to
[1:07:44] Speaker 1: you in a conversation a couple of weeks ago, is
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: if the sport is now defined by always trying teams
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: always trying to improve themselves right by either buying out
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: a head coach or hitting the portal hard, or hiring
[1:07:58] Speaker 1: a new coach and bringing in, you know, sixty eight
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: new athletes for the team. I think the concept of
[1:08:06] Speaker 1: building upon that construction aspect, how is we'll bring a
[1:08:12] Speaker 1: full circle and welcome everybody back to the Fleck Parade.
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: How is Minnesota trying to build upon, you know, Drake
[1:08:17] Speaker 1: Lindsay's first season. How is Maryland trying to build on
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: a season that started well but obviously collapsed into itself
[1:08:26] Speaker 1: like an exploding star in the back two thirds of
[1:08:30] Speaker 1: the season. You know, how is cal trying to construct
[1:08:33] Speaker 1: itself to return to the best of the Jeff Tedford
[1:08:37] Speaker 1: or Sunny Dykes or Justin wilcox eras you know, I
[1:08:40] Speaker 1: think the idea of how are you building upon what
[1:08:43] Speaker 1: you did last year? Maybe it's the full gut renovation,
[1:08:46] Speaker 1: or maybe it's just Okay, we got some spackle here,
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: We've got you know, a leaky pipe there. What what
[1:08:53] Speaker 1: are teams doing to build upon twenty twenty five to
[1:08:58] Speaker 1: to take whatever they feel like the next step or
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: steps are that? That's what That's what jumps out to
[1:09:04] Speaker 1: me because also ty full transparency, I apologize for cutting
[1:09:07] Speaker 1: you off. No, I pitched you pretty hard on just
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: taking recordings from previous preview years, like just nobody's gonna
[1:09:17] Speaker 1: notice if we're talking way too much about Sam Ellinger
[1:09:19] Speaker 1: and just take the summer off, right, we just we
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: post a Maryland preview with give me an old merit
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: like Danny O'Neill. Was he an old Marathons quarterback in
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: the solid verbal era?
[1:09:29] Speaker 2: You talk about jess A Retzel? Yeah, uh, Randy Etzel?
[1:09:33] Speaker 2: Who want to play sexier than.
[1:09:34] Speaker 1: Talking about Randy Edzell. We do an Illinois preview and
[1:09:37] Speaker 1: we're just like, Juice Williams is going to change people's
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: minds this season, and we just Frankenstein's Monster the whole
[1:09:44] Speaker 1: preview out of that, and you and I go to
[1:09:46] Speaker 1: Portugal or something. I don't know, but you turned me down.
[1:09:48] Speaker 1: I did. I did turn that down. Look for me,
[1:09:53] Speaker 1: I think.
[1:09:55] Speaker 2: The theme that I have most been like transfixed by
[1:09:59] Speaker 2: as I read about these teams is the star tier
[1:10:05] Speaker 2: that we are going to see emerge at quarterback. Oh okay,
[1:10:10] Speaker 2: so much of the sport now and it doesn't matter
[1:10:12] Speaker 2: if it's college or pro, but everything's driven by the
[1:10:14] Speaker 2: quarterback position. The portal is driven by the quarterback position. Right,
[1:10:19] Speaker 2: There's no shortage of imagination around who is playing quarterback
[1:10:22] Speaker 2: for whom and what that could mean. And I think
[1:10:26] Speaker 2: the confluence of events with there being this really big
[1:10:31] Speaker 2: tier of star quarterbacks, with their being crazy star potential
[1:10:36] Speaker 2: elsewhere in college football, means that this season, maybe more
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: than most, is going to be shaded by like the
[1:10:42] Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven NFL Draft, Right, the NFL Draft, the
[1:10:48] Speaker 2: one that is coming up in twenty seven In may Or.
[1:10:50] Speaker 2: Whenever they do it now, it is going to be
[1:10:53] Speaker 2: so chock full of bona fide elite caliber talent from
[1:10:58] Speaker 2: college that they're is simply going to be no avoiding it.
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: And so not just how these guys do performing.
[1:11:05] Speaker 2: For their college team, but the constant need to translate
[1:11:09] Speaker 2: what it could mean at the next level is very
[1:11:12] Speaker 2: much going to be a storyline that will not go
[1:11:14] Speaker 2: away and will be unavoidable. And I'm talking about the
[1:11:17] Speaker 2: likes of Arch Manning, of Dante More, of CJ. Carr
[1:11:20] Speaker 2: who could go pro, of Julian Sayan, who could go pro.
[1:11:23] Speaker 2: Of Trinidad Shamblis, who could probably play for seven more
[1:11:26] Speaker 2: years if he keeps sing. I don't know what the
[1:11:27] Speaker 2: deal is there, but Darien Mensa, Jada Mayava, Sam Levitt,
[1:11:31] Speaker 2: even gunn Or Stockton, Josh Hoover.
[1:11:33] Speaker 1: Right, I got ten guys in, eight guys in before.
[1:11:36] Speaker 2: I got the Josh Hoover who's going to be taken
[1:11:38] Speaker 2: over for the national champion, the reigning national champion Indiana
[1:11:41] Speaker 2: Whoho Hoosiers. So this just underscores the point that there
[1:11:45] Speaker 2: is a lot of talent at that quarterback position spread
[1:11:48] Speaker 2: out across the entire sport. We've also got a bunch
[1:11:51] Speaker 2: of big name newcomers that I think could very much
[1:11:55] Speaker 2: impact things and impact the conversation, whether they are transferred
[1:12:00] Speaker 2: in from elsewhether elsewhere, whether they are being promoted from within.
[1:12:04] Speaker 2: But you know, I look at guys like Drew Mestamaker,
[1:12:07] Speaker 2: I look at guys like DJ Lagway, I look at
[1:12:09] Speaker 2: a guy like a Rocko Beck.
[1:12:10] Speaker 1: To Byron Brown.
[1:12:11] Speaker 2: These are names that could have a really serious impact
[1:12:14] Speaker 2: on their new schools, and they're playing for teams that
[1:12:18] Speaker 2: we may not have fully factored in yet to the
[1:12:20] Speaker 2: national conversation.
[1:12:21] Speaker 1: Right.
[1:12:22] Speaker 2: So, for my money, I am very excited about where
[1:12:26] Speaker 2: this thing goes. Just on the quarterback level. I think
[1:12:29] Speaker 2: this year, above many of the others that we have
[1:12:30] Speaker 2: seen in recent memory, has a very real opportunity to
[1:12:34] Speaker 2: be shaded drastically by the quarterback position. And that makes
[1:12:38] Speaker 2: the whole product very exciting.
[1:12:40] Speaker 1: And part of this is to your point, an Il
[1:12:43] Speaker 1: driven that you can come back another year if you're
[1:12:46] Speaker 1: Dante Moore or Lenora Sellers or arch Manning, and develop
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: and improve your draft stock and improve your ability to
[1:12:52] Speaker 1: play the position, and hopefully that benefits all of us
[1:12:57] Speaker 1: that we have more season quarter to watch from Labor
[1:13:01] Speaker 1: Day onward. So yeah, that you can make a good
[1:13:05] Speaker 1: chunk of money. Not NFL money, no, not for the
[1:13:08] Speaker 1: number of years, no, but that you are afforded the
[1:13:12] Speaker 1: ability to improve while being paid significantly. The other it's
[1:13:16] Speaker 1: good for us.
[1:13:17] Speaker 2: The other storyline that I would call out here and
[1:13:20] Speaker 2: I'm not going to read the list of these guys out, okay,
[1:13:23] Speaker 2: but know that as we get deeper into preview season,
[1:13:28] Speaker 2: one of the common themes is going to be new coordinators,
[1:13:32] Speaker 2: specifically defensive coordinators. Defensive coordinators this year, I think have
[1:13:39] Speaker 2: a very real possibility of shaping the way that we
[1:13:43] Speaker 2: view the sport. And this is always the case, right
[1:13:45] Speaker 2: defense wins championships. We say that more I find as
[1:13:48] Speaker 2: we get older. Okay, it's not any less true than
[1:13:51] Speaker 2: it was back in the day whenever they invented the same,
[1:13:54] Speaker 2: But let me just say it right here, right now,
[1:13:57] Speaker 2: that the crop of new defensive coordinators that are going
[1:14:00] Speaker 2: to be part of the sport in twenty twenty six,
[1:14:03] Speaker 2: I think are going to have an outsize impact on
[1:14:05] Speaker 2: how all this shakes out. Maybe that's like cliche to say,
[1:14:10] Speaker 2: and it's like kind of never not true. But I
[1:14:12] Speaker 2: just feel like there is more possibility this year to
[1:14:15] Speaker 2: shape it in a way that it is almost like
[1:14:19] Speaker 2: drastically reshapen by defensive coordinators.
[1:14:22] Speaker 1: Okay must Champ at Texas. Who are the other big
[1:14:24] Speaker 1: names at the.
[1:14:25] Speaker 2: Mush Champ at Texas, Danton Lynn at Penn State. I mean,
[1:14:31] Speaker 2: there's there's just a whole list of guys Dan that
[1:14:34] Speaker 2: that will get.
[1:14:34] Speaker 1: Hill at Michigan. The Hill a lot of success at BYU. Yeah,
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: Oregon made their change an internal promotion, like kind of promotion.
[1:14:40] Speaker 2: He was a code r see but like to the point,
[1:14:43] Speaker 2: to the point mush Champ, you could argue mush Champ
[1:14:46] Speaker 2: was the guy that sark one it all along at Texas.
[1:14:49] Speaker 2: He had Quitkowski there for a while, but ultimately but
[1:14:52] Speaker 2: mush Champ was the direction he wanted to go, you know,
[1:14:55] Speaker 2: perhaps initially and now he finally gets him. Muschamp is
[1:14:58] Speaker 2: going to be I'm going to make my own joke here,
[1:15:01] Speaker 2: but he is going to be more aggressive and attacking.
[1:15:03] Speaker 1: That's his style.
[1:15:04] Speaker 2: What kind of an impact is that going to have
[1:15:06] Speaker 2: in the SEC What kind of impact is that going
[1:15:07] Speaker 2: to have on Texas? The flip side of that is
[1:15:10] Speaker 2: what's going to go down at Oregon, a promotion from within,
[1:15:13] Speaker 2: a ton of talent to work with, especially upfront. But
[1:15:16] Speaker 2: will they get the most out of that unit with
[1:15:19] Speaker 2: a guy who's being promoted from with it.
[1:15:20] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:15:21] Speaker 2: I don't know, but I find that I can go
[1:15:23] Speaker 2: around college football, and at least in the Power conferences,
[1:15:27] Speaker 2: I could pick out like half the teams in each
[1:15:29] Speaker 2: conference where the defensive coordinator role, in particular, I think
[1:15:34] Speaker 2: is going to dictate a lot Kerry Patterson sc yep
[1:15:38] Speaker 2: taking over.
[1:15:38] Speaker 1: For Dan who left to go to Pennsada over Dan.
[1:15:41] Speaker 2: So it's just really there's an intricate web on the
[1:15:43] Speaker 2: defensive coordinator side of things. And look the same is
[1:15:47] Speaker 2: true to in a degree on the offensive side as well.
[1:15:50] Speaker 2: But I just I find defense way more interesting this year.
[1:15:53] Speaker 1: Okay, cool, I think we did a pretty good job here.
[1:16:00] Speaker 1: I mean, you're bearing the lead that there is a
[1:16:02] Speaker 1: five part Pat League preview that will sort of bring
[1:16:05] Speaker 1: everything together around everything into four dimensional shape. The tie
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: that binds is the Pat League. For sure. In a
[1:16:13] Speaker 1: world this fall, some people think they're gone in college football.
[1:16:20] Speaker 2: You know, we had that moment amid the coaching carousel.
[1:16:23] Speaker 2: I would just add this as a parting shot. We
[1:16:26] Speaker 2: had that moment where people on message boards were bringing
[1:16:30] Speaker 2: up Jimbo's name as a potential suiting. Of course, you know,
[1:16:33] Speaker 2: some job maybe wants to get back into it. You know,
[1:16:36] Speaker 2: I saw a couple of schools mentioned whether or not
[1:16:40] Speaker 2: we get Jimbo back in our lives at any point
[1:16:41] Speaker 2: in time.
[1:16:42] Speaker 1: It means to be seen. But nobody has ever truly gone.
[1:16:46] Speaker 2: No one's ever It's like being in the CIA, man,
[1:16:48] Speaker 2: like what you're You're part of the agency. You're always
[1:16:50] Speaker 2: part of the agency, whether you're retired, air quotes or not.
[1:16:53] Speaker 1: Look, you can get let go because you're just an
[1:16:56] Speaker 1: incompetent coach. You can be let go because of off
[1:16:58] Speaker 1: field situations. There are people who want to hire Art Briles,
[1:17:03] Speaker 1: you were never at Oritron his back at LSU. Brent Pry,
[1:17:07] Speaker 1: who was run out of Virginia Tech, has been gone
[1:17:11] Speaker 1: from Virginia Tech for seventeen minutes. He's their new defensive coordinator,
[1:17:15] Speaker 1: right fired as head coach. His back already another defensive coordinator,
[1:17:18] Speaker 1: Ted roofs or still getting work, Ted roof Power still
[1:17:21] Speaker 1: get Ted Roof must have pictures of somebody notable in
[1:17:25] Speaker 1: college football or I don't know how else he keeps
[1:17:27] Speaker 1: getting work he keeps getting I think you know what
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: it is. I think he like has great thumbs like
[1:17:33] Speaker 1: he does these interviews. He's given great massages. He's getting
[1:17:36] Speaker 1: all the tension he's got out of Phil Right could
[1:17:39] Speaker 1: get a warby Parker thing next to Arch. Sure, absolutely
[1:17:46] Speaker 1: nobody's ever gone right in Solid verbo at gmail dot com.
[1:17:50] Speaker 2: For sure, there were things that we missed here, but
[1:17:52] Speaker 2: hopefully we gave you enough of a crash course to
[1:17:55] Speaker 2: just we the beak hip toe in. Start getting ready,
[1:18:00] Speaker 2: get your affairs in order. We've got plenty of preview
[1:18:03] Speaker 2: content to follow. As I said, we're going to start
[1:18:06] Speaker 2: with part one of the G six, will work our
[1:18:08] Speaker 2: way through to part two. Then we'll roll things out
[1:18:11] Speaker 2: starting with the acc on the power conference side of things.
[1:18:13] Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's a great plan.

[1:18:50] Speaker 1: youail right, Dan, and I right Dan, and you did
[1:18:52] Speaker 1: it right.

[1:19:09] Speaker 2: Oh okay, So it doesn't give us like another. One
[1:19:11] Speaker 2: doesn't add a number, or one doesn't increment it by
[1:19:15] Speaker 2: one the number of reviews that we have, but it
[1:19:17] Speaker 2: does bump yours to the top. So, whether you've already
[1:19:21] Speaker 2: done a review or if you are just interested in
[1:19:24] Speaker 2: maybe jumping in.
[1:19:26] Speaker 1: The star ratings and the reviews don't do anything for.
[1:19:29] Speaker 2: The algorithms, regardless of what people tell you, but they
[1:19:32] Speaker 2: do go a long way towards just offering social proof
[1:19:36] Speaker 2: I think that's the word social proof that we're not
[1:19:38] Speaker 2: a bunch of dumb dumbs and that at a minimum,
[1:19:40] Speaker 2: the shows it is fun to listen to.
[1:19:42] Speaker 1: Please help us do that because I'm trying my best work.
[1:19:46] Speaker 1: We struggle with that. I started this show with welcome
[1:19:49] Speaker 1: to the fleck Parade. I have problems continue Dan. I'm
[1:19:53] Speaker 1: excited we did this show. YEA. Hopefully people got something
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: out of it.
[1:19:57] Speaker 2: As always soliverable at gmail dot com or any of
[1:19:59] Speaker 2: the social platf forms of how you can reach out
[1:20:01] Speaker 2: and get in touch if you got something to say.
[1:20:03] Speaker 2: In the meantime, hey uh, until until we dive fully
[1:20:08] Speaker 2: in to our previews, go back, listen to this, send
[1:20:11] Speaker 2: it around.
[1:20:11] Speaker 1: We'll catch in the flip sides. Stay solid, peace. H
