Just as we hit record, news broke that Texas Tech's Brendan Sorsby, one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the transfer portal this cycle, is checking into a treatment program for a gambling addiction, and is under NCAA investigation dating back to his time at Indiana. In this episode, we lead off with what it means for Texas Tech, and why this story is bigger than just one player in an era where sports betting has never been more accessible. Then, we're joined by fantasy football extraordinaire, Jason Moore of The Fantasy Footballers, for a crossover segment years in the making. Jason gives his advice for how our favorite college stars translate to fantasy football, talks through a uniquely thin fantasy class, and picks out his favorite landing spots among the biggest rookie names. Plus, he helps Ty through his issue of drafting too many rookies. When in doubt, just bet against the bad teams. [0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal holl that for me, I'm
[0:06] Speaker 1: a man, I'm forty.
[0:08] Speaker 2: I've heard so many players say, well, I want to
[0:10] Speaker 2: be happy.
[0:10] Speaker 1: You want to be happy for Dake Edo State?
[0:13] Speaker 3: Is that? Whoo whoo?
[0:14] Speaker 1: And no Dan and tie.
[0:18] Speaker 2: Dan, Ruben Steve, welcome back. I need to talk to
[0:20] Speaker 2: you about a little problem of having ty. I know
[0:24] Speaker 2: it's personal, but I appreciate you opening up here.
[0:27] Speaker 3: I have an issue with drafting too many rookies on
[0:30] Speaker 3: my fantasy football teams.
[0:33] Speaker 2: Okay, is it because you're in your what mid to
[0:37] Speaker 2: late forties, Your memory is going and so when you
[0:40] Speaker 2: recognize a recent college name, you're just like, Okay, I
[0:43] Speaker 2: can get down with uh take Carnel Tait as the
[0:48] Speaker 2: best receiver on this fantasy team.
[0:50] Speaker 1: Sure.
[0:51] Speaker 3: I think I am addicted to the feeling of feeling
[0:55] Speaker 3: smart when I draft a rookie that oh, sure, of course,
[0:58] Speaker 3: Like there is no greater feeling in the world of
[1:02] Speaker 3: fantasy sports than picking that diamond in the rough or
[1:05] Speaker 3: that guy that nobody else in the league knows about,
[1:08] Speaker 3: but you get him first because you watched him play
[1:10] Speaker 3: in college, or you're rooted for him in college. I
[1:13] Speaker 3: picked too many of those guys. So I am hoping
[1:17] Speaker 3: as part of today's episode, which is an episode we
[1:20] Speaker 3: have never done before in the history of the podcast,
[1:22] Speaker 3: we've gotten the request to do something like this. We've
[1:25] Speaker 3: never done this before. I am hoping we come out
[1:28] Speaker 3: of our conversation today with Jason Moore of the Fantasy
[1:30] Speaker 3: Footballers with something of an action plan for me, rookies
[1:34] Speaker 3: that I should take that are safe to take, that
[1:37] Speaker 3: won't blow up in my face and won't submarine my
[1:40] Speaker 3: entire fantasy roster.
[1:41] Speaker 2: Full disclosure, I no longer play fantasy football, but that's
[1:44] Speaker 2: a me problem, not a Fantasy football problem. I hated
[1:47] Speaker 2: losing more than I liked winning. I was like, well,
[1:50] Speaker 2: I don't know if I can adjust this part of
[1:52] Speaker 2: my personality at thirty four or whatever age I was
[1:55] Speaker 2: when I sort of recognized this about myself. But I'm
[1:58] Speaker 2: with you, Ty, I always like that sort of diamond
[2:01] Speaker 2: in the rough. I liked it with fantasy baseball, I
[2:03] Speaker 2: liked it with fantasy football. I guess you would have
[2:05] Speaker 2: been the kind of person who would have drafted Brock Bowers,
[2:09] Speaker 2: seen him set rookie records, gloated and come in seventh
[2:14] Speaker 2: place in the problem one percent for.
[2:17] Speaker 3: Me the process and I would say experience of getting
[2:22] Speaker 3: the rookie who pops superseds actually winning, yeah, of course,
[2:27] Speaker 3: which is not a great investment in terms of time
[2:29] Speaker 3: or money, but that that is my.
[2:32] Speaker 1: Problem, not a fantasy football program.
[2:33] Speaker 3: So we're bringing on an expert. Jason Moore of the
[2:36] Speaker 3: Fabulous Fantasy Footballers podcast is going to be stopping by
[2:39] Speaker 3: here for a wide ranging discussion about things he saw
[2:42] Speaker 3: in the draft rookies maybe that are safe for idiots
[2:45] Speaker 3: like me to take when it does come time to
[2:47] Speaker 3: do the fantasy draft this year, and tell us a
[2:50] Speaker 3: little bit more about his show, which you should be
[2:52] Speaker 3: listening to if you like fantasy football.
[2:54] Speaker 1: Again, listen. We we've been doing.
[2:56] Speaker 3: The show a long time, as you know, and on
[2:59] Speaker 3: occasion we'll have have great ideas that are sent into us.
[3:02] Speaker 1: The whole fantasy football.
[3:03] Speaker 3: Angle is one that has been sent in many times
[3:06] Speaker 3: over the years, and we just have never done a
[3:08] Speaker 3: show like this, and we decided this just had to
[3:11] Speaker 3: be the year. So we're appreciative for Jason's time and
[3:15] Speaker 3: excited to have that conversation here for the forballer.
[3:18] Speaker 2: I anticipate he's also going to have great audio production
[3:22] Speaker 2: value because he co hosts a major college, a major
[3:25] Speaker 2: fantasy football podcast, and so we always appreciate that if
[3:29] Speaker 2: you're going to sit and listen to a show for
[3:30] Speaker 2: an hour, he might as well. Even if you don't
[3:32] Speaker 2: like the host, Even if you don't like the content,
[3:33] Speaker 2: at least it's compressed. There might be a little bit
[3:37] Speaker 2: of noise gate in there. The loudness might be matched.
[3:41] Speaker 2: Nice crisp. No, what is it called plosives are limited?
[3:45] Speaker 3: Right?
[3:45] Speaker 1: Yep?
[3:45] Speaker 3: No, nope, he's got a good mic, he's got our microphones,
[3:48] Speaker 3: he's got the shore as well. So we're yeah, we're
[3:50] Speaker 3: excited about this. If you are new here, if you're
[3:53] Speaker 3: just tuning in, hit follow hit subscribes so that you
[3:55] Speaker 3: do not miss any of our episodes. We are going
[3:58] Speaker 3: twice a week right now through the colleg football offseason.
[4:01] Speaker 3: Once we get to like July, then we'll flip the
[4:04] Speaker 3: switch start doing previews that somebody goes up to three
[4:06] Speaker 3: a week. But for the interim, we are still cruising
[4:10] Speaker 3: here in the off season, doing our part to make
[4:12] Speaker 3: it fun and hopefully pass the time a little bit quicker.
[4:16] Speaker 1: Yes, I agree that.
[4:17] Speaker 3: Being said, Dan, we do have some breaking news in
[4:28] Speaker 3: the world of college football, and this is pretty significant.
[4:31] Speaker 3: Now full disclosure, this just broke over the wire. So
[4:35] Speaker 3: we don't have all the information. My senses from reading
[4:38] Speaker 3: what people have said out on the interwebs that nobody
[4:41] Speaker 3: has all the information, but it is notable and it
[4:44] Speaker 3: is certainly worth following because this news pertains to Brendan Soresby.
[4:49] Speaker 3: You may recall Brendon Soresby transferred to Texas Tech. He
[4:52] Speaker 3: was like a six six and a half million dollar man.
[4:55] Speaker 3: He was perhaps the highest paid quarterback throughout the transfer
[5:00] Speaker 3: portal cycle. Got a ton of money to go to
[5:03] Speaker 3: Texas Tech and hopefully take them to higher heights. Sources
[5:07] Speaker 3: per Pete Thammil, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Soorsby is checking
[5:13] Speaker 3: into a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. He
[5:17] Speaker 3: is under nc doublea investigation in the wake of discovery
[5:22] Speaker 3: that Sorsby made thousands of bets via a gambling app.
[5:27] Speaker 3: Some of the bets here that I think are called
[5:29] Speaker 3: into question date back to his time on the Indiana
[5:33] Speaker 3: roster back in twenty twenty two, when perhaps he did
[5:37] Speaker 3: bet on the Indiana Hoosiers. He was not playing, he
[5:40] Speaker 3: was on the field. He was in no position to
[5:42] Speaker 3: influence the game at that time, but that among what
[5:46] Speaker 3: is being reported as thousands of other small bets on
[5:49] Speaker 3: a gambling app are now being called into question. For
[5:53] Speaker 3: those wondering, this is strictly prohibited by the nc DOUBLEA
[5:56] Speaker 3: to bet on college or pro games. So he is
[5:59] Speaker 3: checking into rehab. We can only hope he gets the
[6:01] Speaker 3: help he needs. That is first and foremost and the
[6:03] Speaker 3: most important thing in this story.
[6:06] Speaker 1: But just in terms of.
[6:07] Speaker 3: A football story, this is obviously significant because he was
[6:12] Speaker 3: going to be a centerpiece for the Texas Tech Red
[6:15] Speaker 3: Raiders this season still could be. Don't know where it
[6:17] Speaker 3: goes from here, but as we chart all things here
[6:20] Speaker 3: in spring football, this is uh, yeah, this is a
[6:23] Speaker 3: pretty big one.
[6:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, this is enormous. And again I cannot underscore enough
[6:28] Speaker 2: what you just said. That like, we don't have all
[6:29] Speaker 2: the information. We have little bits and pieces coming out
[6:32] Speaker 2: right now. First, this is a reality and will continue
[6:38] Speaker 2: to be reality in major sports, obviously, which college football
[6:41] Speaker 2: is a major sport. We've got a lot of young
[6:44] Speaker 2: men in college football and the NBA, in the NFL,
[6:47] Speaker 2: we had what a Calvin Ridley suspension a few years ago,
[6:51] Speaker 2: we've had some you know, basketball is obviously an insanely easy,
[6:55] Speaker 2: you know, platform to affect with NBA, with college players,
[7:01] Speaker 2: and the big thing, the big word we hear around
[7:06] Speaker 2: gambling issues and accusations is integrity. Right that you are
[7:11] Speaker 2: going to start thinking about the integrity not necessarily of
[7:14] Speaker 2: Texas Tech games or Cincinnati or Indiana games in Brendan
[7:17] Speaker 2: Sorosby's case, but anybody with these accusations right that you know,
[7:21] Speaker 2: were they affecting the game if they were playing, which
[7:24] Speaker 2: Soresby was not in the case of him wagering on Indiana.
[7:27] Speaker 2: But moving forward, like is Brendan Sorosby under investigation somebody
[7:34] Speaker 2: who will be playing for Texas Tech this coming season
[7:38] Speaker 2: if more comes out about his gambling activity. It also
[7:43] Speaker 2: obviously points to just how easy it is to wager
[7:47] Speaker 2: on sports in a lot of different states and a
[7:50] Speaker 2: lot of the problems that especially young men have with
[7:53] Speaker 2: just how easy it is to get wrapped into this
[7:56] Speaker 2: world and go from wagering responsibly to not so responsibly,
[8:01] Speaker 2: and when you have that integrity thing. Obviously, there were
[8:03] Speaker 2: accusations with what college baseball with a coach was the
[8:07] Speaker 2: Alabama coach, I believe you know there was the story
[8:11] Speaker 2: about Iowa and Iowa State players and some of whom
[8:13] Speaker 2: were cleared. It should be mentioned, you know, a couple
[8:16] Speaker 2: of years ago, but it's something that is just going
[8:21] Speaker 2: to continue to be a reality, especially when prop bets
[8:25] Speaker 2: are able to be placed on various sports. I know
[8:28] Speaker 2: the NCAA is sort of fighting back against that opportunity
[8:33] Speaker 2: in wagering, but man, it should also be said that, hey, man,
[8:41] Speaker 2: when you have a problem and you seek treatment, you
[8:43] Speaker 2: should be paded on the back. So good for Brendan
[8:45] Speaker 2: Soresby for either recognizing or having people in his life
[8:48] Speaker 2: recognized that he has this issue and he is trying to,
[8:52] Speaker 2: you know, face it head on. But yeah, when you
[8:56] Speaker 2: have a quarterback at a major, major place, a playoff
[9:00] Speaker 2: and what we assume to be a playoff caliber place
[9:02] Speaker 2: moving forward in Texas Tech have this type of story
[9:07] Speaker 2: about them, it calls into question, right, the integrity of
[9:14] Speaker 2: either somebody like Sorsby or somebody wrapped up in issues
[9:17] Speaker 2: like this.
[9:18] Speaker 3: Soorsby's gambling and this is a quote from the article
[9:21] Speaker 3: out at ESPN dot com for Petethammel. Sorsby's gambling has
[9:25] Speaker 3: not drawn a repeat, not drawn the attention of law enforcement,
[9:30] Speaker 3: according to sources, nor has he been linked to anyone
[9:33] Speaker 3: attempting to influence the outcome of a game, which I
[9:35] Speaker 3: think is an important thing to highlight here. Sure you
[9:37] Speaker 3: hear stories like this, your mind goes a thousand different directions,
[9:40] Speaker 3: but we have this established now. Sorsby's gambling, sources said,
[9:45] Speaker 3: was a steady floury of small bets over a period
[9:47] Speaker 3: of time. It goes on to say there is no
[9:49] Speaker 3: timetable for his treatment and is being treated as a
[9:53] Speaker 3: mental health matter. Sorsby will be afforded all the time
[9:56] Speaker 3: he needs. And then it does note here rightfully that
[9:59] Speaker 3: his decision as a high profile college athlete to enter
[10:02] Speaker 3: a facility to treat his gambling addiction while enrolled is unprecedented,
[10:06] Speaker 3: and I would agree with that. So yeah, again, hope
[10:10] Speaker 3: he gets the help he needs. Clearly, this is a
[10:12] Speaker 3: story that's going to develop over the course of the
[10:15] Speaker 3: days and weeks that are ahead. All we can do
[10:17] Speaker 3: right now is react to the initial headline, which is
[10:20] Speaker 3: significant in its own right, So.
[10:21] Speaker 1: Keep it right here.
[10:22] Speaker 3: We'll do our part as best we can anyway to
[10:25] Speaker 3: provide context for what happens next, but pay attention This
[10:30] Speaker 3: is a pretty big story to clarify. He wagered on
[10:32] Speaker 3: Indiana when he was there. He's not playing in games, correct,
[10:36] Speaker 3: so he had inside information which would very much violate
[10:41] Speaker 3: I'm sure Indiana and the NCAA's policies on betting on sports.
[10:45] Speaker 1: More to come, Yeah, all right, Dan.
[10:49] Speaker 3: Our guest today is Jason Moore, part of the Three
[10:53] Speaker 3: Headed Monster that is The Fantasy Footballers Fantasy football podcast,
[10:58] Speaker 3: the largest, the best fantasy foot ball podcast on the planet.
[11:02] Speaker 1: Jason, Welcome to Solid Verbal. How are you.
[11:05] Speaker 4: I'm doing well, I mean as well as I can
[11:07] Speaker 4: be doing after that despicable draft from a fantasy football perspective,
[11:11] Speaker 4: but doing well.
[11:13] Speaker 1: I'm happy to be with the Solid Verbal.
[11:14] Speaker 4: It's our one chance a year to do a crossover
[11:17] Speaker 4: event where college meets the NFL.
[11:19] Speaker 1: This is perfect.
[11:20] Speaker 3: It is, it is, And you're a Cardinals fan, so
[11:23] Speaker 3: not just not just maybe lacking on the fantasy side,
[11:27] Speaker 3: but I just, in talking with you a little bit
[11:30] Speaker 3: before we hit go here, I'm getting the strong sense
[11:33] Speaker 3: that you're not a huge fan of what the Cards did.
[11:36] Speaker 4: I haven't been a huge fan of what the Cardinals
[11:39] Speaker 4: have done in most of my life, but no, I
[11:42] Speaker 4: mean it's just awful.
[11:43] Speaker 1: It's funny.
[11:44] Speaker 4: We haven't even recorded our main show yet since the draft.
[11:47] Speaker 4: We're doing that this afternoon, so this is my first
[11:50] Speaker 4: opportunity to really air it out. But it's nonsense. It's despicable,
[11:54] Speaker 4: utter garbage nonsense. That is indefensible. It is absolutely indefensible.
[12:00] Speaker 4: And I like Jeremi Love. Jeremiah Love is a great
[12:04] Speaker 4: football player. And the defense to taking that pick is
[12:07] Speaker 4: just take the best player. Take a player that's gonna
[12:10] Speaker 4: help your team. And I would agree on some of
[12:12] Speaker 4: the principles. What if you draft a bust edge rusher
[12:17] Speaker 4: that is not gonna help your football team as much
[12:19] Speaker 4: as a guaranteed great running back, Like, so, just get
[12:22] Speaker 4: the guy who's good. I understand that, But there's so
[12:25] Speaker 4: much more to building an NFL team than that. I mean,
[12:29] Speaker 4: you can't justify a fifty million dollar guarantee contract by
[12:35] Speaker 4: far the largest guaranteed money ever in the history of
[12:37] Speaker 4: the NFL, for a running back. You can't justify that
[12:42] Speaker 4: from a roster construction standpoint. And people are like, well,
[12:44] Speaker 4: you're gonna have a rookie quarterback. You could afford it, absolutely,
[12:47] Speaker 4: they can afford it. That is not the point. The
[12:49] Speaker 4: point is not whether you can afford giving them that money.
[12:52] Speaker 4: The point is, if you're willing to spend that level
[12:54] Speaker 4: of money for the running back, go out and get
[12:56] Speaker 4: any veteran you want.
[12:57] Speaker 1: Why wouldn't you do that? Of course you would have
[12:59] Speaker 1: done that.
[13:00] Speaker 4: Go trade for Breese Hall with a second round pick,
[13:02] Speaker 4: who's just as good or maybe better. At least he's
[13:04] Speaker 4: a veteran. You know he's coming in. There are so
[13:06] Speaker 4: many better ways to use your capital. Whereas like Will
[13:09] Speaker 4: Anderson just signed a fifty million dollars a year deal
[13:14] Speaker 4: a year and that why because he's a He's in
[13:17] Speaker 4: a position that makes a difference on a team. So
[13:21] Speaker 4: it's just it's just a malpractice. It's it's about the
[13:23] Speaker 4: opportunity cost of being at the top three of a
[13:26] Speaker 4: draft and using it on a borderline meaningless position.
[13:31] Speaker 3: We haven't even gotten to the Carson Beck pick yet, Dan,
[13:34] Speaker 3: We'll save some flavor for that one a little bit
[13:38] Speaker 3: later on here. So, Jason, the reason we're doing this
[13:40] Speaker 3: is because I have a problem and I was hoping
[13:43] Speaker 3: maybe you could help.
[13:44] Speaker 1: That's all I do.
[13:46] Speaker 3: My emotional connection to college football is such that whenever
[13:51] Speaker 3: I play fantasy all I want to do is draft rookies.
[13:56] Speaker 3: This is why I never win, right, But that being said,
[14:00] Speaker 3: this is a college.
[14:01] Speaker 1: Audience that listens to this.
[14:02] Speaker 3: We are doing, as you said, a little bit of
[14:04] Speaker 3: a crossover episode here, and so I was hoping maybe
[14:07] Speaker 3: you can help me with my problem and we could
[14:10] Speaker 3: talk through some of your favorite landing spots for some
[14:13] Speaker 3: of these players that we've rooted for now over the
[14:15] Speaker 3: last three years, four years in college.
[14:18] Speaker 4: Honestly, this is gonna be a great year for you
[14:21] Speaker 4: in fantasy football, specifically for if your problem is you're
[14:24] Speaker 4: always drafting rookies too much because that's who you've been
[14:27] Speaker 4: spending your professional career and passion watching. You won't have
[14:36] Speaker 4: that problem this year. I don't think you're going to
[14:38] Speaker 4: be so tempted to draft these rookies because it's not good.
[14:42] Speaker 4: You're going to be able to get veterans much easier
[14:45] Speaker 4: this year because you're going to see what happened and
[14:49] Speaker 4: you're gonna know the talent level and you're gonna pass.
[14:51] Speaker 4: You're gonna be like, that's okay, well, it's pretty easy
[14:53] Speaker 4: to pass. I mean, we're doing a rookie draft. We're
[14:56] Speaker 4: doing a rookie mock in our fantasy footballers, like our
[14:59] Speaker 4: draft right now, it's going on. We're also started. I'm
[15:03] Speaker 4: in like two main dynasty leagues. Both of those rookie
[15:05] Speaker 4: drafts have started. We're projecting. I just finished all my
[15:08] Speaker 4: dynasty rankings, and I'm telling you the back of the
[15:12] Speaker 4: first round in your rookie drafts. There's a first rounder.
[15:16] Speaker 4: It's like a valuable asset. It is just it's garbage.
[15:18] Speaker 4: It's absolutely it's garbage. You talk about mid second rounders,
[15:22] Speaker 4: you're praying you get lucky. You're gonna hit at like
[15:24] Speaker 4: a fifteen percent clip. This is the worst year for
[15:29] Speaker 4: the NFL draft and fantasy football rookies in the over
[15:33] Speaker 4: a decade.
[15:33] Speaker 1: I've been doing it by a wide margin. Wow.
[15:36] Speaker 3: Okay, So with that being said, and knowing that I've
[15:39] Speaker 3: got this weird, like I guess rookie kink when it
[15:42] Speaker 3: comes to fantasy football. If you are giving some sort
[15:46] Speaker 3: of utility to our audience out there who does play
[15:48] Speaker 3: fantasy football maybe is a little bit like me and
[15:51] Speaker 3: has a bit of an issue with the rookies, But
[15:53] Speaker 3: what what would be your advice as you look now
[15:57] Speaker 3: upon what transpired this weekend? Who are some of your
[16:00] Speaker 3: guys that you're like zeroed in on landing spots things
[16:03] Speaker 3: like that. If we're trying to give the audience something
[16:05] Speaker 3: to take away and work with.
[16:07] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean generically speaking, so more of a thirty
[16:11] Speaker 4: thousand foot view, I would say this year is going
[16:15] Speaker 4: to be a really important year to look at earlier
[16:18] Speaker 4: drafted wide receivers rather than later drafted running backs, because
[16:22] Speaker 4: in fantasy football, everyone needs running backs. They want running backs,
[16:25] Speaker 4: and rookie running backs have been a great bet for
[16:28] Speaker 4: the last decade. There's pretty much every single year there's
[16:30] Speaker 4: two that end up in the top twenty four at
[16:32] Speaker 4: least oftentimes to end up in the top twelve in
[16:36] Speaker 4: fantasy at the running back position.
[16:38] Speaker 1: That's not happening this year.
[16:39] Speaker 4: Obviously, Jeremiah Love great, maybe price, He's got a real
[16:44] Speaker 4: good opportunity in a surprisingly high draft capital. After that, though,
[16:49] Speaker 4: the rest of those running backs are borderline worthless. And
[16:55] Speaker 4: there were so many wide receivers, Like on Day two
[16:58] Speaker 4: in the NFL draft, rounds two and three, one running
[17:02] Speaker 4: back got taken. That's unheard of. And during that same time,
[17:07] Speaker 4: eighteen thousand wide receivers got taken. And so when you're
[17:10] Speaker 4: looking this year. If you just want the big view
[17:14] Speaker 4: of the draft class, I would focus much more on
[17:18] Speaker 4: the rookie wide receivers than on running backs as a whole.
[17:22] Speaker 4: If you're doing a dynasty league and you're drafting in
[17:25] Speaker 4: those rounds I talked about the back of the first
[17:27] Speaker 4: the second. There will one hundred percent be tons of
[17:31] Speaker 4: running backs taken in that spot, because there always are,
[17:33] Speaker 4: because teams need running backs. But it's silly to me
[17:35] Speaker 4: to take a fifth round NFL draft pick at running
[17:38] Speaker 4: back over a guy who was like a third rounder.
[17:42] Speaker 4: The difference from an NFL team. An NFL team views
[17:47] Speaker 4: Day one and Day two picks as key components of
[17:49] Speaker 4: their offense or their defense. Like their team. They're making
[17:52] Speaker 4: a plan, They are paying these players a lot, and
[17:55] Speaker 4: they have an idea and a target. Then there's Day three,
[18:00] Speaker 4: especially in this draft. I'm telling you, these guys barely
[18:03] Speaker 4: give a crap. Just look at like, look at Mike Rabel.
[18:07] Speaker 4: Mike Rabel has had the huge tumult in his personal
[18:12] Speaker 4: life and career with Diana Versini. I don't know if
[18:15] Speaker 4: that's been covered on your podcast.
[18:16] Speaker 1: But alluded to, Yeah, alluded to. We've made a few
[18:20] Speaker 1: jokes here and there.
[18:21] Speaker 4: Yeah right, yeah, Well it got more and more serious,
[18:25] Speaker 4: more journalists and more pictures, and everything got so serious
[18:28] Speaker 4: that you know, he basically did the the equivalent of
[18:32] Speaker 4: the NFL athlete that he's going to rehab, right right.
[18:34] Speaker 1: He's like, for my family, I've got to take time off.
[18:38] Speaker 4: He took off the third day of the NFL Draft,
[18:41] Speaker 4: and this was this was known ahead of time. He said, well,
[18:44] Speaker 4: I'm going to go into basically rehab odd day three.
[18:47] Speaker 4: I'm not waiting for Like, if you wait one more day,
[18:50] Speaker 4: the draft's over. He's like, I don't care about data.
[18:52] Speaker 4: I don't These players three don't matter there. They're special teamers,
[18:57] Speaker 4: their depth people. They're trying to make a roster. So
[19:00] Speaker 4: when you see this running back that you love, that
[19:02] Speaker 4: you fell in love with, who falls to the fifth
[19:05] Speaker 4: round in an NFL draft, that the team doesn't the
[19:09] Speaker 4: team is not in love with them. It is rare
[19:11] Speaker 4: for those guys to hit. So that would be my
[19:12] Speaker 4: piece of advice is move on from them.
[19:15] Speaker 2: So when you look at the first, second, and third
[19:17] Speaker 2: round you mentioned eighteen thousand receivers being taken, what are
[19:21] Speaker 2: what are you looking for specifically?
[19:23] Speaker 1: Receiver?
[19:23] Speaker 2: Is I mean notoriously kind of a volatile position to
[19:26] Speaker 2: draft fantasy wise as a rookie, because it's just it's
[19:30] Speaker 2: a faster game, right, it's so positioned dependent on quarterback,
[19:33] Speaker 2: on system, on existing room. What are your your your
[19:37] Speaker 2: cautionary tales in looking at high round receiver picks and
[19:41] Speaker 2: drafting them to your fantasy team.
[19:43] Speaker 3: I should probably write this down by the way. This yeah,
[19:45] Speaker 3: please kryptonite the rookie wide receiver kills me.
[19:49] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[19:50] Speaker 4: So you've got kind of the obvious first round or whatever.
[19:53] Speaker 4: They're they're good, their teams are are you know in
[19:56] Speaker 4: on them? Those day two picks, You've got to look
[19:59] Speaker 4: at two things. You got to look at the talent
[20:01] Speaker 4: of the player, which is on you, guys or on me,
[20:04] Speaker 4: just what do you believe? And then you got to
[20:06] Speaker 4: look at the landing spot and the opportunity, which sometimes
[20:09] Speaker 4: can be overblown.
[20:10] Speaker 1: You know.
[20:11] Speaker 4: I remember back in the day when AJ Brown went
[20:13] Speaker 4: to the Tennessee Titans.
[20:14] Speaker 1: It was a death Now. Everyone loved ah. Aj Brown was.
[20:16] Speaker 4: A huge We were all so happy he was one
[20:19] Speaker 4: of our favorites. Couldn't wait to see where he goes.
[20:21] Speaker 4: Oh no, Ryan Tannehills's quarterback like it's never gonna work.
[20:24] Speaker 4: Sometimes you bet on the talent and it'll overcome, right,
[20:27] Speaker 4: So like you've got you've got a couple higher drafted guys,
[20:30] Speaker 4: Casey and conceptsy On love Casey conceptsy On goes to
[20:33] Speaker 4: the Browns.
[20:33] Speaker 2: You're like, ooh no, but you just bet on the
[20:37] Speaker 2: talent the day too. It's really a matter of.
[20:44] Speaker 4: What is the opportunity to be on the field when
[20:47] Speaker 4: you're looking at fantasy football. Obviously you gotta work backwards.
[20:52] Speaker 4: You can't get yards and you can't get touchdowns unless
[20:55] Speaker 4: you get targets.
[20:56] Speaker 1: You can't earn the targets unless you're on the field.
[20:58] Speaker 1: Are you on the field?
[20:59] Speaker 4: And two wide receiver sets and three wide receiver sets,
[21:01] Speaker 4: like there's great players in the NFL Jayden Reed really
[21:05] Speaker 4: good wide receiver, really good has always disappointed for fantasy
[21:10] Speaker 4: because for some reason, when they're on he's only a
[21:12] Speaker 4: slot guy. Only a slot guy when they're on the field,
[21:15] Speaker 4: and two wide receiver sets, which they are all the time,
[21:17] Speaker 4: he doesn't make the cut, even though he's definitely one
[21:19] Speaker 4: of their two best wide receivers. That's just that's just
[21:22] Speaker 4: how it happens. So you know, you look at the
[21:25] Speaker 4: Miami Dolphins. They drafted Chris Bell in the third who
[21:29] Speaker 4: was supposed to be this first round potential wide receiver
[21:32] Speaker 4: had the ACL problem.
[21:34] Speaker 1: But I look at the depth chart there and I go,
[21:35] Speaker 1: there is there is no one.
[21:38] Speaker 4: I mean, they their wide receiver one is TBD and
[21:43] Speaker 4: they got Caleb Douglas both in the third round. So
[21:47] Speaker 4: let me put a question back to you guys. Yeah,
[21:50] Speaker 4: you know, I've when I scout these guys because we're
[21:53] Speaker 4: NFL focused. I spent a couple of months after the
[21:56] Speaker 4: NFL Draft, after the Super Bowl is over looking at
[22:00] Speaker 4: you know, whoever was invited to the combine.
[22:02] Speaker 1: I'll do some research, but I can't. I can't watch
[22:05] Speaker 1: these guy.
[22:05] Speaker 4: I don't pretend to be a college scout. Let's just
[22:09] Speaker 4: talk about those two players, if you don't mind me,
[22:11] Speaker 4: hijackmow leestionis Caleb Douglas Chris Bell, including the health. Compare
[22:17] Speaker 4: those two players because I think the landing spot is
[22:19] Speaker 4: really important a round three pick to a team that
[22:21] Speaker 4: desperately needs a wide receiver.
[22:23] Speaker 3: Caleb Douglas was a you know, fairly key component for
[22:27] Speaker 3: the Texas Tech offense, and it was an offense that
[22:30] Speaker 3: you know, ran the ball, I think a little bit
[22:31] Speaker 3: better than expected, certainly better than we expected after they
[22:34] Speaker 3: had an injury at the start of the year, and
[22:37] Speaker 3: you know they were somewhat dependent as you know, Dan
[22:40] Speaker 3: is an Oregon fan. Through the playoffs on however, high
[22:44] Speaker 3: Baron Morton could take them at quarterbacks. So Caleb Douglas
[22:47] Speaker 3: was a guy who I think had a pretty good
[22:49] Speaker 3: year and I think is justified in going the third round.
[22:52] Speaker 1: I think he's a really good player.
[22:54] Speaker 4: So you like Caleb Douglas more than Chris Bell if
[22:57] Speaker 4: you take injury out, like not just the ACL problem
[23:00] Speaker 4: for Chris Bell, you you think Caleb Douglas better wide receiver.
[23:04] Speaker 1: I think. So let me see which which one did
[23:05] Speaker 1: they draft first.
[23:08] Speaker 3: I think Caleb Douglas went about twenty picks before Chris Peal.
[23:11] Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, you are looking at quarterback, You are
[23:15] Speaker 2: looking at situation, You are looking at who else is
[23:18] Speaker 2: on the team, you know, sucking up oxygen, right that
[23:21] Speaker 2: you have a much more quarterback friendly system. I would
[23:24] Speaker 2: say at Louisville with Chris Bell, even though the quarterback
[23:27] Speaker 2: and Miller Moss not an NFL quarterback, it appears whereas
[23:31] Speaker 2: you know, Texas Tech was a playoff team that was
[23:33] Speaker 2: it was a better structure for an offense for Caleb Douglas.
[23:38] Speaker 2: So I think Caleb Douglas has more interesting experience playing
[23:43] Speaker 2: at Texas Tech. Higher you played against higher level teams,
[23:45] Speaker 2: it seemed going deeper into the playoff.
[23:48] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[23:49] Speaker 2: It's a crapshoot, and it's one of those things like
[23:51] Speaker 2: does this thing matter?
[23:52] Speaker 1: Does it not matter?
[23:53] Speaker 2: Because especially as you sort of alluded to in the NFL,
[23:56] Speaker 2: it's just an opportunity thing, right, It's just a like
[23:58] Speaker 2: do you get lucky and not tweak an ankle in camp?
[24:01] Speaker 2: You know what is what is the OC love to
[24:04] Speaker 2: do or not love to do? So it's a it's
[24:08] Speaker 2: it's who you like when watching when you watch their film,
[24:10] Speaker 2: you're like, all right, this makes more sense to me.
[24:14] Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm curious about how you look at quarterbacks
[24:17] Speaker 2: at this point too, just because you speak of like
[24:20] Speaker 2: a position dependent on a number of external factors. It's
[24:25] Speaker 2: not a great quarterback class obviously in this year's draft,
[24:29] Speaker 2: and obviously it's highlighted by Fernando Mendoza, but just in
[24:33] Speaker 2: general generally speaking, even if it's not about this season,
[24:37] Speaker 2: rookie quarterbacks. Is there something to you that says, Okay,
[24:43] Speaker 2: I'm going to wager on this. I'm going to take
[24:46] Speaker 2: a shot with this. Everything seems to be in place.
[24:50] Speaker 2: Or is it just too scary early on to put
[24:53] Speaker 2: any weight on a rookie quarterback.
[24:54] Speaker 1: No, it's it's not.
[24:56] Speaker 4: It's this answer feels like a cop out, but it's
[25:00] Speaker 4: actually a genius answer. Okay, okay, you don't understand how
[25:03] Speaker 4: smart what I'm gonna say is because it sounds so stupid.
[25:07] Speaker 1: But you just focus on running quarterbacks. That's it, full stop.
[25:11] Speaker 1: That's it.
[25:12] Speaker 4: If you're looking at fantasy football and you want to say, okay,
[25:16] Speaker 4: a rookie quarterback is going to come in and make
[25:19] Speaker 4: an impact, an impact for fantasy, not for the NFL.
[25:23] Speaker 1: CJ.
[25:23] Speaker 4: Stroud came in and had one of the best rookie
[25:25] Speaker 4: seasons we can remember ever in the NFL. His rookie
[25:29] Speaker 4: season was outstanding. They're like, okay, we got our franchise guy.
[25:32] Speaker 4: How silly that we took him number two. He clearly
[25:34] Speaker 4: should have been the number one for fantasy purposes. He
[25:37] Speaker 4: won that good. He did not do that much. He
[25:39] Speaker 4: was like the quarterback twenty something, had a couple good
[25:42] Speaker 4: games in his rookie season that you could stream him.
[25:44] Speaker 4: He's pretty much worthless. You look at last year and
[25:46] Speaker 4: you go, Okay, cam Loard, great. You want to know
[25:48] Speaker 4: who you should have been on was Jackson dart Right.
[25:51] Speaker 4: The dude's running. And so when it goes to fantasy football,
[25:54] Speaker 4: that's that's almost all you need to focus on. As
[25:57] Speaker 4: far as drafting rookie quarter for fantasy, there is, as
[26:02] Speaker 4: far as I can remember, one example in the history
[26:06] Speaker 4: of fantasy football where there was a fantasy impactful, non
[26:11] Speaker 4: truly mobile rookie quarterback, Justin Herbert and his rookie season
[26:15] Speaker 4: was like, Okay, wow, we need to be starting him.
[26:18] Speaker 4: He's throwing a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns.
[26:20] Speaker 4: Is not throwing picks.
[26:21] Speaker 1: That's it. That's it.
[26:22] Speaker 4: Every other like big rookie breakout fantasy sensation, it's the legs.
[26:28] Speaker 1: Legs score more in fantasy.
[26:29] Speaker 4: You get, you know, a point for every ten rushing yards,
[26:32] Speaker 4: you get a point for every twenty five passing yards.
[26:34] Speaker 4: Rookies don't throw that many touchdowns, but they if they're mobile,
[26:37] Speaker 4: they can rush for you know, seven to ten touchdowns
[26:41] Speaker 4: as a rookie. So when I'm looking like, you know,
[26:44] Speaker 4: I've got this this prospecting model I've been working on
[26:48] Speaker 4: this offseason called Felix, and I wish I had it
[26:52] Speaker 4: last year. You know, it projected Jackson Dart, even with
[26:55] Speaker 4: the lower draft capital, to be much better in fantasy
[26:57] Speaker 4: than cam Ward. And when I dig into the quarterback position,
[27:01] Speaker 4: it's really been disappointing and enlightening that it's like.
[27:05] Speaker 2: Oh, man, that really is the only thing that matters,
[27:08] Speaker 2: isn't it, Like because it shouldn't be.
[27:10] Speaker 4: I've hated this for I've hated that about fantasy since
[27:13] Speaker 4: I started.
[27:14] Speaker 1: The fact that, like you.
[27:15] Speaker 2: Know, back in the day, when when you know you've
[27:19] Speaker 2: got great Drew Brees, just want an amazing pocket passer,
[27:26] Speaker 2: and then you have someone that's just like he runs
[27:28] Speaker 2: the ball a lot, and it's like, oh, you should
[27:30] Speaker 2: start that guy instead for fantasy.
[27:32] Speaker 1: It's like he's not the better quarterback. I hate that.
[27:35] Speaker 1: I wish that the scoring was different.
[27:37] Speaker 4: I have argued for many years that like passing yards
[27:40] Speaker 4: and rushing yards all be scored the same for a quarterback,
[27:43] Speaker 4: and I get flack for it, But if you did that,
[27:46] Speaker 4: if passing yards and rushing yards were scored identical, like
[27:49] Speaker 4: the quarterback. It's the same amount of points for however
[27:51] Speaker 4: many yards he gains on the field, whether he threw
[27:53] Speaker 4: the ball around the ball, it's just the same. Because
[27:55] Speaker 4: you know in the NFL it is actually the same.
[27:56] Speaker 4: That's how many yards they got. All of a sudden,
[27:59] Speaker 4: you be drafting the best quarterbacks in the league instead
[28:01] Speaker 4: of the most dual threat quarterbacks in the league. Jalen
[28:04] Speaker 4: Hurts has been a fantasy sensation the last you know,
[28:09] Speaker 4: five years. I've won multiple championships with him, and right
[28:13] Speaker 4: now the team kind of wants to get rid of them,
[28:15] Speaker 4: and people are like, ah, he's not.
[28:16] Speaker 1: That good, but for fantasy he's still great. I hate that.
[28:20] Speaker 4: So when you look at a rookies, that's all you
[28:21] Speaker 4: need to look at. And this year is just not
[28:25] Speaker 4: not that many great options. I mean, the great dual
[28:29] Speaker 4: threat Diego Pavia went undrafted. Right, dude, I don't know
[28:35] Speaker 4: how much you. I'm sure all the major college guys
[28:38] Speaker 4: are listening to the solid verbal.
[28:39] Speaker 2: You guys are the solid verbal. Can you tell these
[28:42] Speaker 2: players that they need agents? Yeah, that's a great call.
[28:47] Speaker 4: Oh, you're gonna save five percent on nothing because you don't.
[28:50] Speaker 1: Get drafted, you idiot.
[28:51] Speaker 4: Also the agent might tell you to watch your mouth
[28:53] Speaker 4: and your attitude and your behavior so you can get
[28:55] Speaker 4: drafted anyways. Outside that, are are there any quarterback I
[29:00] Speaker 4: don't know, you know, I don't go that deep. So
[29:02] Speaker 4: I'm looking at the big names and the you know,
[29:04] Speaker 4: the guys that got drafted high. Are there are there
[29:06] Speaker 4: any diamonds in the rough where if they get in
[29:08] Speaker 4: and they get their opportunity, they're going to run, you know,
[29:10] Speaker 4: for one hundred yards in a game.
[29:12] Speaker 3: Well, I mean I'm looking at the listing now of
[29:15] Speaker 3: the quarterbacks that were selected. You got to go down
[29:18] Speaker 3: to round six to find one that to me jumps
[29:21] Speaker 3: out as a truly dynamic runner, and that's Taylor Green
[29:25] Speaker 3: from Arkansas who went to the Browns. But otherwise, I mean,
[29:29] Speaker 3: you're looking at a lot of quarterbacks for Nana Mendoza,
[29:31] Speaker 3: Tye Simpson, Cade Clubnick to the Jets. Guys that can
[29:37] Speaker 3: run and have shown that they can run, but it
[29:39] Speaker 3: is certainly not a featured component of their game. They
[29:42] Speaker 3: do it because they have to, right, so they're more athletic,
[29:45] Speaker 3: but not necessarily using that as part of their featured
[29:49] Speaker 3: skill set.
[29:49] Speaker 2: Taylor Green, new head coach, right with Cleveland's offensive minded
[29:54] Speaker 2: college experience, so has coached with creative offensive minds during
[29:59] Speaker 2: his college and pro career. Obviously used to Lamar Jackson
[30:02] Speaker 2: with Baltimore. I just don't follow the NFL, you know,
[30:05] Speaker 2: to a terribly detailed degree. But in terms of a flyer.
[30:10] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[30:11] Speaker 2: The Cleveland quarterback situation doesn't seem rock solid and set
[30:14] Speaker 2: for the next twenty years. Yeah, I don't know if
[30:16] Speaker 2: Taylor Green is even a quarterback in the NFL. I
[30:18] Speaker 2: heard conversations around what he might be as like a
[30:20] Speaker 2: Swiss army knife.
[30:22] Speaker 4: They did come out, they did come out and say
[30:24] Speaker 4: that he is going to play quarterback.
[30:26] Speaker 1: Okay, So just that, like it feels like the.
[30:28] Speaker 4: Fact that the question has to be asked those players,
[30:31] Speaker 4: like they don't come out and be like, well, so,
[30:33] Speaker 4: what's Carson Beck playing?
[30:34] Speaker 1: Right? Exactly?
[30:36] Speaker 2: Taylor Green at Arkansas, right, he's you know, with Bobby Petrino.
[30:40] Speaker 2: He is in an offense that was one of the
[30:42] Speaker 2: best rushing offenses in America.
[30:44] Speaker 1: Last year.
[30:45] Speaker 2: He had games where he put up like cartoonish Lamar
[30:49] Speaker 2: Jackson like college numbers. At Arkansas, like, he had games
[30:53] Speaker 2: where he was putting up six hundred total yards or
[30:55] Speaker 2: five hundred total yards. So that does feel like a stat.
[31:00] Speaker 1: And maybe kind of guy.
[31:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, But otherwise, to your point, Jason, there just aren't
[31:06] Speaker 3: a whole lot of guys that necessarily fit that archetype
[31:09] Speaker 3: now next year. Next year is probably a much different conversation.
[31:13] Speaker 3: It just seems like it's going to be a much
[31:15] Speaker 3: deeper draft class across the board at some of these
[31:17] Speaker 3: skill positions that I think are pertinent to the fantasy
[31:20] Speaker 3: football player. But based on what I see here, I mean,
[31:25] Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm curious. I know you're a Cardinals fan.
[31:28] Speaker 3: How much do you know about the Carson Beck experience.
[31:32] Speaker 1: I don't know enough.
[31:33] Speaker 4: I know before the show you were telling me about
[31:36] Speaker 4: some of his dating life and text messages that came out,
[31:39] Speaker 4: and just you know, what a what a solid dude
[31:43] Speaker 4: he seems like. Yeah, tell me more about what I
[31:47] Speaker 4: can expect as the second half of his rookie season.
[31:50] Speaker 1: I'm sure he's the starter from my Arizona Cardinals.
[31:54] Speaker 3: It wasn't all that long ago that Carson Beck was
[31:56] Speaker 3: viewed as I would say overwhelmingly a first round process. Yes,
[32:01] Speaker 3: and then there was the injury, and then you know,
[32:04] Speaker 3: some of what plagued him in his time at Georgia
[32:08] Speaker 3: came out at inopportune moments on the field, as I'm
[32:11] Speaker 3: sure some Miami fans will attest. So the fact that
[32:15] Speaker 3: he went in the third round actually was a little
[32:17] Speaker 3: bit surprising to me. I didn't necessarily see him as
[32:20] Speaker 3: a third round prospect, though I know in the not
[32:23] Speaker 3: so distant past he clearly had that pedigree. I would
[32:28] Speaker 3: probably characterize the Carson Beck experience as very much a
[32:32] Speaker 3: game manager. Had more than a couple moments of letting
[32:37] Speaker 3: his team down or the backbreaking interception at a critical
[32:42] Speaker 3: moment that has to drive you crazy if you're a fan,
[32:45] Speaker 3: but obviously good enough to take his team to a
[32:48] Speaker 3: national championship game and get to a final drive where
[32:52] Speaker 3: if it weren't for the interception, maybe it's a different result.
[32:55] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[32:55] Speaker 2: The big thing with Carson Beck was, yeah, he was
[32:58] Speaker 2: a first round type prospect at Georgia to have his
[33:00] Speaker 2: elbow reconstructed after the twenty twenty four season he got
[33:04] Speaker 2: hurt in the playoff.
[33:05] Speaker 1: Transferred to Miami. He's from Florida.
[33:09] Speaker 2: Really good, I mean, same offensive coordinator as cam Ward
[33:11] Speaker 2: at Miami and had a couple of backbreaking losses led
[33:15] Speaker 2: them to the National Championship game. Could use had like
[33:17] Speaker 2: the essentially what the game winning rushing touchdown against Ole
[33:21] Speaker 2: Miss in the final four game. And yeah, I think
[33:26] Speaker 2: there were questions about like his arm not being what
[33:29] Speaker 2: it was and he would throw downfield some, but it
[33:32] Speaker 2: wasn't like they based their offense around the strength and
[33:37] Speaker 2: precision of his arm like they did with me. Wasn't
[33:40] Speaker 2: a Rookie of the Year situation. No surgery, definitely not. No,
[33:45] Speaker 2: it looked like he lost zip. Yes, So I think
[33:50] Speaker 2: a lot of people were surprised, based on even the
[33:53] Speaker 2: best of what he was last year, that he went
[33:55] Speaker 2: as high as he did, just because it didn't seem
[33:58] Speaker 2: like he had an NFL arm.
[34:00] Speaker 1: I'm no doctor.
[34:01] Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, but the hopium I think would be. Look,
[34:06] Speaker 4: that's first year removed from a reconstructive elbow surgery, and
[34:10] Speaker 4: his if he did lose arm strength that is regained. Yeah, right,
[34:15] Speaker 4: Like he gets back to pre injury form and all
[34:17] Speaker 4: of a sudden you're looking at a first round talent.
[34:19] Speaker 4: The nice thing, though, if you want, if you everything
[34:22] Speaker 4: we do in fantasy, everything we do in football, is
[34:25] Speaker 4: a series of making bets. And I don't mean that
[34:28] Speaker 4: financially or gambling or gaming. I just mean like you're
[34:31] Speaker 4: trying to make a decision, and you're trying to be
[34:33] Speaker 4: right a slight bit more than you're wrong right, and
[34:36] Speaker 4: you look for edges to make bets as to whether
[34:38] Speaker 4: this is going to work out, whether that player is
[34:40] Speaker 4: going to work out, whether this system's gonna work out.
[34:42] Speaker 1: And I could just.
[34:43] Speaker 4: Tell you there's a lot of you know, I've heard
[34:46] Speaker 4: you know, I'm in Arizona. I hear all the hype
[34:49] Speaker 4: and the hope for Carson Beck. There is definitely an
[34:51] Speaker 4: easy path to a narrative where you can say, this
[34:54] Speaker 4: is a guy who was supposed to be a top
[34:55] Speaker 4: fifteen pick, you're removed, has surgery, gets the National Championship Game,
[35:00] Speaker 4: and has an opportunity to be something special. But if
[35:04] Speaker 4: you want to look for slight edges, bet against stupid franchises.
[35:08] Speaker 4: And so Carson Beck is not gonna work. He's not
[35:11] Speaker 4: gonna work because he went to the Arizona Cardinals and
[35:13] Speaker 4: they will screw it up. They will not put the
[35:15] Speaker 4: right people around him, they will not build him up
[35:18] Speaker 4: and train him in the right way.
[35:19] Speaker 1: We are dumb.
[35:20] Speaker 4: We are stupid, and we will make sure that whatever
[35:24] Speaker 4: you shouldn't do to raise a young man into an
[35:26] Speaker 4: NFL quarterback, that's what we're gonna do. I promise you
[35:29] Speaker 4: that's what we're gonna do. Bet against Carson Beck. Now,
[35:32] Speaker 4: if Carson Beck, you ended up having a situation where
[35:37] Speaker 4: like I was not a big fan of Ty Simpson personally,
[35:40] Speaker 4: I didn't want the Cardinals to The Cardinals were the
[35:42] Speaker 4: team that was supposed to get TYE Simpson. I didn't
[35:45] Speaker 4: want him because he only has fifteen starts. It wasn't
[35:47] Speaker 4: like I watched the tape and I was like, Oh,
[35:48] Speaker 4: this guy sucks. It was like, man, that's another one.
[35:51] Speaker 4: You bet against guys who don't have a lot of experience.
[35:54] Speaker 4: The list of guys who come out with like fifteen
[35:56] Speaker 4: starts in college into the NFL, there's a healthy list.
[36:00] Speaker 1: Of them, and they're all they don't work.
[36:03] Speaker 4: But if you want to bet on a guy who
[36:06] Speaker 4: gets to go to Sean mcvay's team in the NFL
[36:09] Speaker 4: and sit behind the like he's going to have the
[36:11] Speaker 4: structure built up around him. Now I'm betting more on
[36:15] Speaker 4: Ty Simpson because he's if he went to the Cardinals,
[36:19] Speaker 4: they would be the easiest bet against of all time.
[36:21] Speaker 4: They would have screwed it up. I think that that's,
[36:24] Speaker 4: you know, the same way that I talk about like
[36:27] Speaker 4: just draft mobile rushing quarterbacks for fantasy and that's it.
[36:30] Speaker 4: That's all you need to worry about at that position.
[36:33] Speaker 4: One of my like it took too many years to learn,
[36:37] Speaker 4: but just bet against the bad franchises. It works, and
[36:40] Speaker 4: people get so mad at me, the Jets fans, the
[36:43] Speaker 4: Browns fans. Somehow, the Cardinals fans don't get mad at
[36:46] Speaker 4: me because I am one, But I'd say the exact
[36:49] Speaker 4: same thing about them. Bet against those franchises. When Deshaun
[36:52] Speaker 4: Watson went there, I was like, Okay, I'll bet against them.
[36:56] Speaker 4: It just happens every time. I mean, it's like the
[37:00] Speaker 4: easiest bet ever. So you know, like I love Casey concepts.
[37:03] Speaker 4: You I really like him.
[37:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I said earlier, bet on talent, but it's
[37:08] Speaker 2: probably not gonna work.
[37:09] Speaker 1: He's prown.
[37:10] Speaker 2: What are the other variables? If you're even to zoom
[37:13] Speaker 2: in closer? Because I think that's right right, bet on
[37:15] Speaker 2: consistent winning and can bet against consistent losing and ineptitude.
[37:19] Speaker 2: Is there something about when you're looking at rookies or
[37:22] Speaker 2: I guess even beyond rookies players that are you're sort
[37:25] Speaker 2: of up in the air about is it like, I
[37:27] Speaker 2: love this running back because of the offensive line, it
[37:30] Speaker 2: looks like he has. I love this quarterback because the coordinator.
[37:34] Speaker 2: It looks like he has. I love this receiver because
[37:36] Speaker 2: he'll play, but he's not going to be counted on
[37:39] Speaker 2: for all of the yardage and all of the targets. Like,
[37:42] Speaker 2: when you look at variables again rookies or otherwise on
[37:47] Speaker 2: average teams, everything else being equal, what are those variables,
[37:50] Speaker 2: You're like, ooh, that that does it for me.
[37:53] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's I think there are two variables.
[37:57] Speaker 4: You mentioned both of them, but they are specific. So
[37:59] Speaker 4: there's the quarterback, play in the offensive line. Those are
[38:03] Speaker 4: the two biggest variables, and I think we conflate them
[38:06] Speaker 4: when you're looking at the offensive line. Look at that
[38:09] Speaker 4: for the quarterback. Usually people look at it for the
[38:12] Speaker 4: running game. Oh, this offensive line is great, so they're
[38:15] Speaker 4: gonna have a great running game.
[38:16] Speaker 1: Sometimes that works out.
[38:18] Speaker 4: Old school Dallas Cowboys, the current era of the Lions,
[38:22] Speaker 4: they got a bully ball offensive line. If you're talking
[38:24] Speaker 4: about like the top three, Okay, that works, But for
[38:27] Speaker 4: the most part, when I'm looking at the quarterback, I
[38:29] Speaker 4: want the offensive line because quarterbacks, you know who's good,
[38:32] Speaker 4: you know who's bad.
[38:33] Speaker 1: You know if CJ.
[38:34] Speaker 4: Stroud is a good enough quarterback, you know if Justin
[38:37] Speaker 4: Herbert is a good enough quarterback. And then you watch
[38:40] Speaker 4: what happens when they don't have an offensive line and
[38:42] Speaker 4: they don't get it done that year for fantasy. So
[38:44] Speaker 4: like Justin Herbert had he lost his left tackle, he
[38:48] Speaker 4: lost his right tackle. The offensive line was decimated last year,
[38:51] Speaker 4: had a down year. Well, he's getting both those guys back.
[38:53] Speaker 4: Those guys are not good, they are great players. They
[38:56] Speaker 4: got the best center in the league this offseas. So
[39:00] Speaker 4: it's like, Okay, I'm gonna bet on Justin Herbert. But
[39:03] Speaker 4: then when it comes to everyone else, you're running back,
[39:07] Speaker 4: it's the quarterback, it's like who how many points are
[39:10] Speaker 4: they going to score? And what style of play? So,
[39:14] Speaker 4: for instance, Drew Brees was a running back's dream. This
[39:19] Speaker 4: is a guy who's not going to move around in
[39:20] Speaker 4: the pocket. He's not going to rush for one hundred yards.
[39:24] Speaker 4: He's gonna dump the ball off. He's gonna let you
[39:26] Speaker 4: like the pass protection for Drew Brees was not having
[39:29] Speaker 4: the running back stay in there and pick up the blocker.
[39:32] Speaker 4: The Drew Brees pass protection was, Hey, just to go
[39:35] Speaker 4: on the other side of that guy, dump it off
[39:36] Speaker 4: to you and then they'll stop rushing at me. So,
[39:39] Speaker 4: you know, if you want to bet on a wide
[39:41] Speaker 4: receiver or a running back, make sure they've got a
[39:43] Speaker 4: good quarterback. If you want to bet on a quarterback,
[39:46] Speaker 4: make sure they've got a good offensive line. I think
[39:47] Speaker 4: that's pretty much the Those are the tiebreaker, the extra
[39:51] Speaker 4: layers that you try to look for.
[39:53] Speaker 3: So from a fantasy perspective, I know, in terms of,
[39:57] Speaker 3: like in general NFL raw sir construction, you may not
[40:01] Speaker 3: be in favor of what the Cardinals did, But from
[40:04] Speaker 3: a fantasy perspective, a little bit of uncertainty about long
[40:08] Speaker 3: term quarterback solution, a little bit of uncertainty just in
[40:11] Speaker 3: general about the team.
[40:13] Speaker 1: I think that's been the case for the Cardinals for
[40:15] Speaker 1: a long time.
[40:16] Speaker 3: Is there not a case to be made that, even
[40:18] Speaker 3: though it may not be the smartest franchise move to
[40:21] Speaker 3: take Jeremiah Love third, that if you're a fantasy football player,
[40:26] Speaker 3: he could, in theory be most of the offense and
[40:28] Speaker 3: he's worthy of a draft pick. If anybody out there
[40:31] Speaker 3: is like me and enjoys taking rookies.
[40:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he will be a very high draft pick.
[40:38] Speaker 2: When you look at where he's going to slot in.
[40:40] Speaker 4: He will be drafted as an RB one, as one
[40:43] Speaker 4: of the top twelve running backs there. The downside and
[40:46] Speaker 4: the upside of picking at number three is the exact
[40:49] Speaker 4: same thing. The utter commitment that a franchise is making
[40:53] Speaker 4: to this player. Like that, they are saying they can't
[40:57] Speaker 4: draft him at three and make him a fit fifty
[41:00] Speaker 4: to fifty guy. Now put him behind James Connor and
[41:02] Speaker 4: Tyler Aljier. They will get They will get smoked in
[41:06] Speaker 4: the media. It will be nonsensical to do that. Now
[41:10] Speaker 4: there's they suck. They don't have a great offensive line,
[41:13] Speaker 4: they don't have a what is projected to be a
[41:15] Speaker 4: top half offense. You don't know what's going on with quarterback.
[41:18] Speaker 4: But you look at you look at Ashton Genty. It's
[41:21] Speaker 4: the exact same thing. Last year, phenomenal talent goes super
[41:26] Speaker 4: high in the NFL draft.
[41:27] Speaker 1: That means they're committed to him. He's going to get
[41:29] Speaker 1: a ton of work.
[41:29] Speaker 4: But he's on a bad offense, bad quarterback, you know,
[41:31] Speaker 4: Gino Smith, and like not a great offensive line.
[41:34] Speaker 1: It's there's a there's a lot of parallels there.
[41:37] Speaker 4: And last year my bust pick in our NFL draft
[41:42] Speaker 4: show going up to August was Ashton Genty because he
[41:45] Speaker 4: was being drafted in the first round and it was like,
[41:48] Speaker 4: that's not like Ashton Genty's going to be good. He's
[41:51] Speaker 4: phenomenal and he's going to get the work, but you
[41:53] Speaker 4: do have to have some of those other things in
[41:54] Speaker 4: fantasy to work out. So it's I believe it's a
[41:57] Speaker 4: matter of where he goes in drafts. A good chance
[42:00] Speaker 4: he is overdrafted. Ashen Genty finished last year as the
[42:05] Speaker 4: running back twelve, so in fantasy most leagues are a
[42:08] Speaker 4: twelve team league, in which we would call that a
[42:12] Speaker 4: running back one. He was one of the top twelve,
[42:15] Speaker 4: but he was universally thought of as like a bad
[42:18] Speaker 4: pick because he did not know you were drafting him
[42:21] Speaker 4: as like the fifth or sixth running back, even though
[42:23] Speaker 4: he was good his rookie year, certainly not a bust
[42:26] Speaker 4: by NFL standards, looks like a future superstar. It just
[42:29] Speaker 4: wasn't a good pick in fantasy because you thought more
[42:32] Speaker 4: of what he could do. And I will say that
[42:35] Speaker 4: rookie year Jeremiah Love, while he is going to get
[42:39] Speaker 4: the workload, He's gonna get the passing game, the running
[42:42] Speaker 4: game is gonna get short yard is gonna get a
[42:44] Speaker 4: little bit of everything. They're not going like Tyler Algear,
[42:47] Speaker 4: who they brought in this offseason, who spent the last
[42:50] Speaker 4: few years vulturing touchdowns from Bijon Robinson, even veteran Bjon Robinson.
[42:54] Speaker 4: He's gonna do the same for Jeremiah Love. And the
[42:57] Speaker 4: Cardinals aren't gonna score that many touchdowns in general. Nope,
[43:00] Speaker 4: Jeremiah Love will probably be overdrafted. He'll be drafted as
[43:03] Speaker 4: a top twelve running back. He might finish there, but
[43:06] Speaker 4: there's a good chance that his method of getting there
[43:09] Speaker 4: is kind of like Gents's. Was a couple of big
[43:13] Speaker 4: games that skew the numbers. Most days you were a
[43:16] Speaker 4: little disappointed in the outcome.
[43:18] Speaker 3: I know one of the things you guys do is
[43:21] Speaker 3: you identify your guys, my guys. If you look at
[43:27] Speaker 3: this draft class mindful of the fact that you are
[43:30] Speaker 3: already doing rookie drafts because you guys are experts and
[43:34] Speaker 3: can't waste any time getting to it. Who are your
[43:36] Speaker 3: guys from this rookie class. Who are the names that
[43:40] Speaker 3: you have circled that you're most excited having your team?
[43:43] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean obviously it's one of the big three anyways,
[43:46] Speaker 4: But Jordan Tyson early in the cycle of the NFL
[43:49] Speaker 4: draft season, he was the He was the forgotten guy.
[43:53] Speaker 4: Was Daniel Jeremiah just kept lowering in his top fifty
[43:56] Speaker 4: board over and over, Omar Cooper went above him. I
[43:59] Speaker 4: think maybe concepts you on one above him. He was
[44:01] Speaker 4: barely making the top fifty one point basically up until
[44:05] Speaker 4: his little pro day when all of a sudden all
[44:07] Speaker 4: the news changed. It's like, ah, he's so good, he's
[44:09] Speaker 4: gonna maybe he's the first wide receiver. Throughout the entire process,
[44:13] Speaker 4: from beginning to end, I have stood true that Jordan
[44:16] Speaker 4: Tyson is that dude.
[44:18] Speaker 1: He is awesome.
[44:19] Speaker 4: I think going to a team where you know you've
[44:22] Speaker 4: got Tyler Shuck who he showed enough like he could
[44:25] Speaker 4: get it done, and yes, you are not gonna be
[44:28] Speaker 4: the one, especially year one with Chris Olave there, they
[44:31] Speaker 4: don't have anyone else to throw the ball to. I
[44:32] Speaker 4: think it's a good landing. Spot Ty Draft Capital, they've
[44:35] Speaker 4: got quarterback play. That one is really really exciting to me.
[44:39] Speaker 4: That's one of my guys where I you know, I've
[44:42] Speaker 4: had him as my number one of the Carnell Tate,
[44:44] Speaker 4: Jordan Tyson, Mackay Lemon trifecta. He's been my number one.
[44:47] Speaker 4: He is still my number one at running back. How
[44:54] Speaker 4: gross I mean, this year just is gross. I've never
[44:57] Speaker 4: I've never seen a year like this.
[44:59] Speaker 2: The guy that was I would have I would have
[45:02] Speaker 2: said going in, I was planning a flag on.
[45:04] Speaker 1: I think he was good.
[45:05] Speaker 4: He did a checks all the boxes that I care
[45:07] Speaker 4: about for fantasy before the NFL Draft would have been
[45:10] Speaker 4: Jonah Coleman washing his smoothest hands. I think the best hands,
[45:15] Speaker 4: even including Jeremiah Love as far as just a you
[45:19] Speaker 4: rifle him the ball and it just sticks. It's thoughtless
[45:22] Speaker 4: that I love watching how a running back catches the ball.
[45:26] Speaker 4: Not just their numbers, but like you can see guys
[45:28] Speaker 4: who they can they can leak out and.
[45:32] Speaker 1: Get a little dump off anybody.
[45:34] Speaker 4: I can do that, But like, what about if you're
[45:36] Speaker 4: in traffic, what about if you're running full speed?
[45:38] Speaker 1: What about if the throw is not on target?
[45:41] Speaker 4: And Jonah Coleman's catching all of those plus rushing touchdowns
[45:45] Speaker 4: is great.
[45:47] Speaker 1: He went to on.
[45:48] Speaker 4: Day three, which, like I said, Day three is usually
[45:50] Speaker 4: a death now sucks. Thankfully it was high up in
[45:53] Speaker 4: round three, went to a team with a good offense
[45:55] Speaker 4: in the Denver Broncos. But you know, I'm not gonna play.
[46:00] Speaker 4: I had the flag on him. He might be someone
[46:01] Speaker 4: i'd grab at the end of my drafts, but the
[46:04] Speaker 4: projection as of right now is that he's going to
[46:06] Speaker 4: be one of three running backs. All splitting carries were
[46:11] Speaker 4: touchdowns receiving, So you're not excited about him.
[46:14] Speaker 1: I don't know that there is.
[46:15] Speaker 4: Okay, here's another guy I'm I'll plant my flag on
[46:18] Speaker 4: since running back doesn't exist, Eli Stowers.
[46:21] Speaker 1: Eli Stowers, I liked.
[46:24] Speaker 4: Now this is for fantasy again, Like, I'm not an
[46:26] Speaker 4: NFL guy, I don't I don't know, nor do I
[46:30] Speaker 4: care about the blocking prowess of like Kenyon Sadik, But
[46:37] Speaker 4: I like Stowers better than Sadik. Stowers is a better
[46:40] Speaker 4: wide receiver than Sadiq. Stowers was more productive than Sadiq.
[46:44] Speaker 4: Stowers is a better route runner. I think he's got
[46:46] Speaker 4: better hands. And while Sadiq murdered the forty and is
[46:51] Speaker 4: clearly an athlete of all athletes, and that's why he
[46:54] Speaker 4: was drafted so high. It's because when he gets in
[46:56] Speaker 4: the NFL, he's going to dominate NFL guys physically.
[47:00] Speaker 1: You know that that that's special.
[47:02] Speaker 4: Stowers was right there with him on the combine like
[47:05] Speaker 4: Stowars was athletic off the charts, the.
[47:10] Speaker 1: Landing spot is questionable, you know.
[47:14] Speaker 4: The A lot of people like to complain that Jalen
[47:17] Speaker 4: Hurts can't throw across the middle right, which is where
[47:21] Speaker 4: the tight ends are gonna be. And then they and
[47:22] Speaker 4: then they added a slot guy, so they got two
[47:24] Speaker 4: guys that are gonna be working across the battle.
[47:27] Speaker 1: Exactly.
[47:28] Speaker 4: So it's like and then you've got Mackay Lemon and
[47:30] Speaker 4: he likes Stowers competing, and then you've got Dallas Goddard there.
[47:34] Speaker 4: I would just push back and say.
[47:39] Speaker 1: You have years.
[47:40] Speaker 4: Dallas Goddard was like the tight end three this year.
[47:42] Speaker 4: He had a ton of touchdowns that was with Jalen Hurts. Uh,
[47:46] Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts was still there, I believe when when you
[47:49] Speaker 4: had the the end of the career of why can't
[47:53] Speaker 4: I remember his name? And he was a cardinal who
[47:56] Speaker 4: is the the tight end man totally blame. He has
[48:00] Speaker 4: supported tight ends before. He has supported high end receiving
[48:05] Speaker 4: numbers from wide receivers to DeVante Smith. His second year
[48:10] Speaker 4: in the league with Jalen Hurts, who was not, you know,
[48:13] Speaker 4: just an outside guy, was the wide receiver ten in fantasy.
[48:16] Speaker 4: So I don't think that the Eagles landing spots are
[48:19] Speaker 4: that bad. Dallas Goddter won't be there, and I believe
[48:22] Speaker 4: in the talent of Stowers. Stowers is a like to me.
[48:27] Speaker 4: When I was scouting all of these players, I viewed
[48:30] Speaker 4: Eli Stowers as the fourth best wide receiver and that's
[48:35] Speaker 4: how I would have approached him. If I was in
[48:36] Speaker 4: an NFLGM, I would have gone in. I probably would
[48:39] Speaker 4: have taken him at the back of the first ahead
[48:41] Speaker 4: of maybe depending on I mean, there's a team need
[48:44] Speaker 4: and situation. You know, if you're like, oh, we need
[48:48] Speaker 4: more of a Casey Concepcion type of player, very different
[48:51] Speaker 4: than how you're gonna use Stowers. Obviously different positions, but
[48:54] Speaker 4: outside of that, I would have been saying, our team
[48:56] Speaker 4: needs pass catchers, Go get Stours.
[48:58] Speaker 1: He's great.
[49:00] Speaker 3: For as much love as Diego Pavia got in helping
[49:04] Speaker 3: bring about a new era of prosperity at Vandy Stours
[49:08] Speaker 3: was every bit as much a part of that. He
[49:10] Speaker 3: just didn't get the love, maybe because he wasn't as
[49:13] Speaker 3: as out there as as Pavia. But it's it's for
[49:17] Speaker 3: sure a case to be made my guy. And this
[49:20] Speaker 3: is probably a little bit of biased Dan as you
[49:23] Speaker 3: might expect k tron Allen, not Kate tron Allen being
[49:27] Speaker 3: a Notre Dame and Giants fan. My guy's Malachi Fields.
[49:31] Speaker 2: I was going to ask you. I was, Oh, this
[49:33] Speaker 2: is great, let's get into that. My guy's Malachi Fields.
[49:38] Speaker 2: A they needed an extra wide receiver, all right. I'm
[49:40] Speaker 2: glad they didn't burn an early pick on a guy
[49:43] Speaker 2: like a Jordan Tyson or a Carnell Tait, because lord knows,
[49:45] Speaker 2: they have plenty of other holes to fill. But my
[49:48] Speaker 2: case for Malachi Fields is Jackson Dart does like to
[49:53] Speaker 2: play a little bit of yolo ball, and by that
[49:55] Speaker 2: I mean he scrambles and he's going to chuck it up.
[49:59] Speaker 2: Malachi Fields is a guy who is many things, definitely
[50:03] Speaker 2: has a lot of work to do, but he is
[50:05] Speaker 2: really good at going up and getting those fifty to
[50:08] Speaker 2: fifty contested balls and he's also really good at breaking
[50:11] Speaker 2: off roots and like sitting in a pocket for a
[50:14] Speaker 2: curl or a hitch.
[50:16] Speaker 3: That is what he excels at. He's not going to
[50:18] Speaker 3: be the guy who takes the lid off a defense.
[50:20] Speaker 3: He's not even going to be the guy who gets
[50:22] Speaker 3: the most separation with the defender. But in terms of
[50:24] Speaker 3: those contested catches and somebody who can be a reliable
[50:27] Speaker 3: target or at least somebody you can throw in the
[50:29] Speaker 3: vicinity of when Jackson Dart does Jackson Dart things, That's
[50:33] Speaker 3: where I think Malachi Fields could do really well. Especially
[50:37] Speaker 3: a skill set like that could translate to the red zone.
[50:39] Speaker 3: So from a fantasy perspective, I'll just tell you I
[50:42] Speaker 3: will lose again like I do every year, but I
[50:45] Speaker 3: will have Malachi Fields on my roster.
[50:47] Speaker 1: Okay, this is great.
[50:48] Speaker 4: So first of all, I have to zach Ertz was
[50:51] Speaker 4: the name I was searching for sure, the title, I
[50:53] Speaker 4: can't believe I could not think of it Malcki Fields.
[50:57] Speaker 4: As soon as you said earlier that you were a
[50:58] Speaker 4: Giants fan, I was like, okay, hey, I really want
[51:01] Speaker 4: to know what you think. And then turns out you're
[51:02] Speaker 4: a Notre Dame fan. Okay, so you've got a lot
[51:04] Speaker 4: of bias.
[51:05] Speaker 2: So before I give my take, Dan, what's your take
[51:10] Speaker 2: on Malachi Fields? He was not in the most for
[51:13] Speaker 2: Notre Dame. He was not in the most passing, downfield
[51:18] Speaker 2: happy system at all times because he had a first
[51:21] Speaker 2: year starting quarterback last year. Who I mean, look, CJ.
[51:23] Speaker 2: Car could be a high first round pick next year.
[51:26] Speaker 2: I thought Malachi Fields was underrated when you go back
[51:29] Speaker 2: and look at his tape, but he just was not
[51:32] Speaker 2: in the most friendly downfield and creative passing attack offense.
[51:37] Speaker 2: And kind of rightfully so, because this is a Notre
[51:39] Speaker 2: Dame team starting Jeremiah Love and Jendarium Price in that backfield,
[51:42] Speaker 2: so you sort of with a good offensive line, they
[51:45] Speaker 2: leaned on that they had a productive tight end, and
[51:47] Speaker 2: so they weren't taking a lot of chances all of
[51:50] Speaker 2: the time, and they weren't also playing a terribly difficult
[51:54] Speaker 2: schedule that required Notre Dame to you know, have those
[51:58] Speaker 2: dudes that are challenging guy downfield in January, especially because
[52:02] Speaker 2: Notre Dame didn't play in January?
[52:03] Speaker 1: How dare you? How dare you? So?
[52:05] Speaker 2: I think I think there is there's value there just
[52:08] Speaker 2: because you don't know what he is against the highest
[52:12] Speaker 2: level of competition, and so you know, he wasn't drafted
[52:15] Speaker 2: super highly, but I think the upside is real. I
[52:17] Speaker 2: don't know how I feel about Jackson dart as like
[52:20] Speaker 2: somebody who's gonna throw for five thousand yards or something
[52:23] Speaker 2: like that, but I think there's value there, especially on
[52:26] Speaker 2: a team that's starting over. And I assume the coach
[52:28] Speaker 2: doesn't have any preconceived notions about that receiver's room. It's
[52:32] Speaker 2: you know, it's all fresh to him. So you know,
[52:34] Speaker 2: in some cases maybe rookies have a better chance of
[52:36] Speaker 2: breaking through because it's a new coach.
[52:39] Speaker 1: Yeah. I love the landing spot here. They needed a
[52:42] Speaker 1: wide receiver.
[52:43] Speaker 4: Two they didn't do the I agree completely with Tie,
[52:47] Speaker 4: like you should not have drafted one at five or
[52:51] Speaker 4: even at ten. So I think I think they did
[52:54] Speaker 4: it the right way. Malchi Field specifically, I don't think
[52:57] Speaker 4: it's going to work. I don't think he's going to
[52:59] Speaker 4: translate into the end NFL. My notes on him, and
[53:02] Speaker 4: this is a little bit judge from like, there is
[53:08] Speaker 4: an ARC type that often is drafted in the NFL
[53:11] Speaker 4: and busts and does not work, and it is Malachai
[53:13] Speaker 4: Fields archtype. It is the big oversized guy who gets
[53:19] Speaker 4: older than all the kids around him and dominates them
[53:23] Speaker 4: and then goes to the NFL and goes, oh, this
[53:25] Speaker 4: trick doesn't work anymore, and then completely flames out.
[53:29] Speaker 1: There is no middle ground for Malachai Fields.
[53:31] Speaker 4: Malay Fields is not going to go out there and
[53:33] Speaker 4: be like an okay wide receiver, play for seven years,
[53:38] Speaker 4: get a second contract, be a valuable wide receiver three
[53:43] Speaker 4: for a team.
[53:43] Speaker 1: I just don't.
[53:44] Speaker 4: I think he's going to go out there and keep
[53:46] Speaker 4: doing what he did and be dominant, and Jackson Dart
[53:48] Speaker 4: will be great, and now they've got their wide receiver
[53:51] Speaker 4: two found and going forward, you know, he becomes the
[53:55] Speaker 4: T Higgins if you will to Jamar Chase, that's what
[53:59] Speaker 4: they're hoping they got.
[54:01] Speaker 1: I just don't know.
[54:02] Speaker 4: Like when I look at my notes that I took
[54:05] Speaker 4: when I was scouting him, I said, giant man with
[54:07] Speaker 4: a late breakout age, basically catching sideline balls over little kids.
[54:11] Speaker 4: A lot of George Pickens comps. And I can see
[54:14] Speaker 4: that with some of his incredible catches. But call me
[54:16] Speaker 4: a bit skeptical that his tricks will work in the NFL.
[54:19] Speaker 1: Is that my viewpoint.
[54:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's six', four he is, okay he's a big bodied.
[54:24] Speaker 3: RECEIVER i mean he fashions his. Game i've heard his comments.
[54:27] Speaker 3: Before he fashions his game after Like Mike, evans you,
[54:30] Speaker 3: know after guys who are.
[54:32] Speaker 1: Very, notable big bodied wide.
[54:33] Speaker 3: Receivers but, look if you've watched Enough Malchi fields Or
[54:37] Speaker 3: Notre dame or you, know have cared at all about
[54:40] Speaker 3: the draft, process he doesn't get a ton of. Separation
[54:44] Speaker 3: that is not his. Game he is very much a jump,
[54:46] Speaker 3: ball can test to catch kind of. Guy, frankly he
[54:48] Speaker 3: would have fitting great At, Clemson, dan where they need
[54:51] Speaker 3: more guys like that or have in recent. Memory he's
[54:54] Speaker 3: the type of, guy to your, Point, jason who's going
[54:56] Speaker 3: to get ten catches or ten touchdowns this.
[54:58] Speaker 1: Year it's gonna be one of the.
[55:00] Speaker 3: Other from a fantasy, standpoint there's probably a lot of
[55:03] Speaker 3: boom or bust on the giant side of. Things just
[55:06] Speaker 3: as a, team there's probably a little bit more wiggle room,
[55:08] Speaker 3: because As dan, said the receiver room is very much
[55:11] Speaker 3: still in flux outside Of Malik, neighbors who's still coming
[55:14] Speaker 3: back from an injury and who, knows you know what
[55:16] Speaker 3: that's going to look like when he does get back
[55:17] Speaker 3: out on the. Field so he'll probably have a longer
[55:20] Speaker 3: lease just in terms of his viability as AN nfl,
[55:23] Speaker 3: player but in terms of FANTASY i could definitely see
[55:27] Speaker 3: being very. Volatile i'm just, Saying i'm gonna be honest
[55:30] Speaker 3: with you. Guys he will be on my roster this.
[55:31] Speaker 4: Year AND i don't think that's a bad bet to,
[55:35] Speaker 4: make because even THOUGH i think it's a sub fifty percent,
[55:38] Speaker 4: bet SOMETIMES i mean, it's, well what's the?
[55:41] Speaker 1: Payoff the payoff if he works is.
[55:43] Speaker 4: Huge like you, said he could be the type of
[55:45] Speaker 4: rookie that goes out there and gets nine or ten
[55:46] Speaker 4: touchdowns because of his arc. TYPE i don't mind taking a,
[55:50] Speaker 4: bet especially you've got a quarterback in, place you have
[55:54] Speaker 4: a need at wide receiver, two and he is the
[55:57] Speaker 4: arc type they could score. Touchdowns i'll take that, bet
[56:00] Speaker 4: AND i will take that bet knowing it's probably a
[56:02] Speaker 4: bad bet just simply, because LIKE i, know the power,
[56:05] Speaker 4: Ball i'm not gonna, win BUT i still might buy,
[56:08] Speaker 4: it but because it's, like, hey but what if you,
[56:10] Speaker 4: Know i'm just curious when they were on the. Clock
[56:12] Speaker 4: So Chris brazl was he went To carolina similar not
[56:21] Speaker 4: not play style really but another six,' four, big body much,
[56:26] Speaker 4: more productive but also In the, tennessee Offense which i've
[56:29] Speaker 4: learned over. THE years i REMEMBER when. I started i
[56:32] Speaker 4: REMEMBER when i started, doing this it was like this
[56:35] Speaker 4: the production was. SO great, i mean people were, always,
[56:37] Speaker 4: like yeah but It's the. Tennessee offense they kind of,
[56:39] Speaker 4: Manufacture that and, TO me i could Not just, i'm
[56:42] Speaker 4: like what do you mean every team is trying to manufacture?
[56:45] Speaker 1: More yards like just what do?
[56:47] Speaker 3: You?
[56:47] Speaker 1: Mean like how is how is this?
[56:49] Speaker 4: A system why isn't every system doing that if it
[56:51] Speaker 4: manufactures yards? And touchdowns made?
[56:53] Speaker 2: No sense but over and over and over, and over, you, Go,
[56:58] Speaker 2: ah okay so there is something where, it's.
[57:00] Speaker 1: LIKE should i interrupt you to.
[57:01] Speaker 3: MENTION that i also was very High On jalen.
[57:04] Speaker 1: HYATT exactly i was high on like.
[57:07] Speaker 4: He was he was my final like straw that broke
[57:10] Speaker 4: the camel's Back where, I'm, Going okay I'm gonna i'm
[57:13] Speaker 4: gonna continue to be skeptical as EVERYONE says i should
[57:15] Speaker 4: be On these. Tennessee Guys But, chris brasel LIKE if
[57:18] Speaker 4: i were to have Been, THE giants I believe brasl
[57:22] Speaker 4: went a couple. Picks, later yeah he went the. Nineteenth
[57:24] Speaker 4: pick in the, Third round malachi went the. Tenth pick
[57:27] Speaker 4: so they They chose Malachi Over. CHRIS brasl i would
[57:30] Speaker 4: have gone the, other WAY but i don't know what
[57:32] Speaker 4: you guys se were you a Fan Of?
[57:34] Speaker 3: CHRIS brasel I mean I Like chris brasel, a LOT
[57:37] Speaker 3: and i remember when he Got. TO tennessee, i mean
[57:40] Speaker 3: everybody was crazy about the Potential Of. CHRIS brasel i
[57:44] Speaker 3: believe some injury issues in his Time, in knoxville but,
[57:47] Speaker 3: you know by, and large definitely.
[57:49] Speaker 1: Definitely a different kind.
[57:51] Speaker 3: Of receiver but he was another one of those NAMES
[57:54] Speaker 3: that i looked at as SOMEBODY who i thought, was
[57:56] Speaker 3: viable again.
[57:57] Speaker 1: As a fan of a team that needed to a.
[58:00] Speaker 3: Wide receiver so it was clear they went for the
[58:03] Speaker 3: sort of, big bodied fifty to fifty Guy, over BRASLE
[58:05] Speaker 3: who i think is a little bit more well rounded as.
[58:07] Speaker 3: A RECEIVER but i don't hate that pick at, at
[58:10] Speaker 3: all because there's clearly a lot of talent that, you
[58:14] Speaker 3: know could be tapped into by a bright.
[58:16] Speaker 1: Offensive mind the.
[58:18] Speaker 2: Thing, is too which is interesting when you compare guys like,
[58:21] Speaker 2: This Right chris Brasel And malachi fields. Both transfers you
[58:24] Speaker 2: can look at their time if you're looking at pure
[58:26] Speaker 2: upside and upside for fantasy or just AS an, Nfl
[58:31] Speaker 2: fan brazil had big games, in college, He Did malchaie
[58:35] Speaker 2: fields was never like he may have had awesome catches
[58:38] Speaker 2: and run awesome routes and if you look at, the tape, you're,
[58:40] Speaker 2: like oh he's a technician when he runs this kind.
[58:42] Speaker 2: Of route there was no like stretch of Games Where
[58:45] Speaker 2: malachi fields was unguardable against pretty, good, Teams right like
[58:49] Speaker 2: he didn't have like a six catch one hundred and
[58:51] Speaker 2: seventy seven, yard Game whereas brasl kind of did a.
[58:54] Speaker 1: Few TIMES and i just.
[58:56] Speaker 2: Don't, know again this is not my area, Of expertise
[58:59] Speaker 2: like when was the last time THAT an nfl receiver
[59:02] Speaker 2: earlier on in their career made a huge impact and
[59:05] Speaker 2: was only like pretty good in terms of production? In college, it's.
[59:10] Speaker 4: RARE man, i mean the thing is is there are
[59:14] Speaker 4: there are a few examples of guys who didn't do
[59:18] Speaker 4: a ton. In college it's been, a Minute and i'm
[59:22] Speaker 4: not a HUGE college i want To say arry McLaurin
[59:24] Speaker 4: didn't have a great. PRODUCTION profile i could be wrong, on,
[59:28] Speaker 4: That right something in the back of my mind, Thinks
[59:31] Speaker 4: that but my point is there's just not.
[59:32] Speaker 1: Many examples.
[59:35] Speaker 4: Having a ton of production in college absolutely does not
[59:38] Speaker 4: mean you're going to be good IN. The, nfl however
[59:41] Speaker 4: not having a ton of production in college almost assuredly
[59:45] Speaker 4: means you're not going to be good IN. The nfl
[59:46] Speaker 4: people that can't produce in college can't. Earn targets they
[59:50] Speaker 4: don't usually step up and get better IN. The nfl and,
[59:54] Speaker 4: this year going into this, draft class, you KNOW when
[59:58] Speaker 4: I when i peel the, you know the sheet off the,
[1:00:03] Speaker 4: old rusty dirty dusty couch to start sitting down and
[1:00:07] Speaker 4: doing my twenty TWENTY six nfl, draft prep, everybody said
[1:00:13] Speaker 4: there's a terrible year for running backs and a wonderful
[1:00:15] Speaker 4: year for. Wide receivers the depth of this draft is.
[1:00:17] Speaker 4: Wide receivers they were one hundred percent right on the.
[1:00:20] Speaker 4: Running backs goodness the. Wide receivers there, is DEPTH but
[1:00:25] Speaker 4: i was shocked at the production profile across, the board
[1:00:30] Speaker 4: like in, years past getting to a thousand. Yard season
[1:00:33] Speaker 4: just like if you're a, wide receiver you're gonna you're
[1:00:35] Speaker 4: gonna matter for fantasy a thousand yard in your best
[1:00:39] Speaker 4: season is kind OF something.
[1:00:40] Speaker 1: I just require.
[1:00:41] Speaker 4: To SEE and i couldn't believe how many people didn't
[1:00:46] Speaker 4: hit that mark, this year even even some of the
[1:00:49] Speaker 4: BIG names i don't even. REMEMBER did, i mean obviously
[1:00:53] Speaker 4: he Played For, ohio state But did tate even get
[1:00:55] Speaker 4: to a thousand yards in his?
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: Peak season i'd have.
[1:00:58] Speaker 2: To live they've had so many good running or, excuse
[1:01:01] Speaker 2: me receivers that so many of these yards were spread out.
[1:01:05] Speaker 2: So evenly he had eight seventy five this, past year seven.
[1:01:09] Speaker 1: Thirty three and twenty twenty four and then two.
[1:01:12] Speaker 4: Twenty, FOUR yeah i mean that one is obviously when
[1:01:14] Speaker 4: you're playing with maybe the best wide receiver in the
[1:01:16] Speaker 4: country and you know you're, you're busy you can. Understand
[1:01:19] Speaker 4: that but my, POINT is I just i kept waiting
[1:01:22] Speaker 4: for these, production monsters and they really.
[1:01:24] Speaker 3: Didn't come the interesting Thing about Malachi, fields dan you
[1:01:29] Speaker 3: can make a case that just from a, production standpoint
[1:01:32] Speaker 3: not that we're playing, college fantasy but his numbers took
[1:01:35] Speaker 3: a pretty big step back going Into The notre dame
[1:01:37] Speaker 3: Offense from virginia the previous year when, he TRANSFERRED or
[1:01:42] Speaker 3: i guess before he Transferred To notre Dame, from virginia
[1:01:45] Speaker 3: he had something like eight. Hundred, yards well look At
[1:01:48] Speaker 3: what virginia did last year. AT quarterback i mean that
[1:01:50] Speaker 3: was a much more pass happy system than it had
[1:01:52] Speaker 3: been just because of their, Other Transfer, chandler morris who.
[1:01:55] Speaker 1: Played quarterback so.
[1:01:55] Speaker 3: There's a case to be made from a production Standpoint
[1:01:58] Speaker 3: That malachi fields would have had better numbers if you
[1:02:00] Speaker 3: just Stayed.
[1:02:01] Speaker 1: At virginia now.
[1:02:02] Speaker 3: Raise, his profile played in higher, profile games arguably by
[1:02:05] Speaker 3: Going To. Notre DAME but i don't know what to
[1:02:08] Speaker 3: make of. THAT either i don't know for sure if
[1:02:11] Speaker 3: that's a red herring or if that is something that,
[1:02:13] Speaker 3: you know could spoil.
[1:02:14] Speaker 2: The bet but look At Least. Jordan Tyson jordan tyson
[1:02:17] Speaker 2: lit teams up when he. Was, healthy yeah he had
[1:02:21] Speaker 2: big games where he. Was Unstoppable so i'm looking at
[1:02:24] Speaker 2: THIS and I did.
[1:02:25] Speaker 4: I haven't i had, these THOUGHTS but i haven't like
[1:02:28] Speaker 4: sat down and just looked at one, specific thing especially
[1:02:31] Speaker 4: now THAT The nfl draft is over AND the nfl
[1:02:33] Speaker 4: told us who they like in. What order so obviously
[1:02:35] Speaker 4: you got the Big, Three, Tate. Tyson lemon we knew
[1:02:37] Speaker 4: they were going to be first. Round picks they. Were
[1:02:39] Speaker 4: great their talent, was there their production profile, was good
[1:02:41] Speaker 4: and you Can.
[1:02:41] Speaker 1: Forgive. Tates yeah, after that the picks went.
[1:02:44] Speaker 4: In order IN the, Nfl Draft, Casey Concepcion, omar cooper junior,
[1:02:48] Speaker 4: First Rounders, Jeremy Bernard, Denzel Boston, Dejon Stribling, Antonio Williams,
[1:02:55] Speaker 4: Malachi Fields. Jacobe lane, not one not a single one
[1:03:01] Speaker 4: of THE guys i just mentioned never hit a thousand
[1:03:03] Speaker 4: yards in their. Peak season all of. Those guys you
[1:03:05] Speaker 4: have to go Down To ted hurst in the you.
[1:03:08] Speaker 4: Know whatever he was picked the twelfth. Wide receiver however
[1:03:11] Speaker 4: many were at before he got to. A thousand he
[1:03:14] Speaker 4: got to one thousand and four in. Bad COMPETITION so i, don't,
[1:03:18] Speaker 4: Know man i'm this was supposed to be a great
[1:03:20] Speaker 4: wide receiver draft CLASS. And tbd but call me a
[1:03:23] Speaker 4: little skeptical that these guys are gonna break out for
[1:03:25] Speaker 4: the point. Of fantasy and obviously that's an, important distinction
[1:03:29] Speaker 4: like a lot of these guys are gonna Go Like
[1:03:30] Speaker 4: jeremy bernard, to me is A perfect nfl. WIDE receiver
[1:03:34] Speaker 4: i would want my team to. DRAFT him i think
[1:03:37] Speaker 4: he's going to be in the right spot, be reliable
[1:03:39] Speaker 4: not dominate anyone, specific area but kind of be a
[1:03:42] Speaker 4: jack of. All trades THAT'S how i project him. FOR
[1:03:44] Speaker 4: fantasy i don't care. About that you're not Helping my
[1:03:47] Speaker 4: you're you're not going out there and putting up twelve
[1:03:49] Speaker 4: hundred yards and.
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: Ten touchdowns it's just NOT so i.
[1:03:53] Speaker 4: Don't know this seems more like maybe IT'LL, help nfl
[1:03:55] Speaker 4: but for fantasy feels.
[1:03:57] Speaker 2: Pretty weak, last QUESTION and I assume i know partially
[1:04:02] Speaker 2: what your answer is going. To be it's not just
[1:04:04] Speaker 2: offensive players that are drafted INTO, the nfl and fantasy
[1:04:08] Speaker 2: teams do. START defenses i assume this is largely matchup
[1:04:11] Speaker 2: dependent which defense you're. Gonna start is there a defense
[1:04:15] Speaker 2: that you feel like got considerably better given their draft
[1:04:19] Speaker 2: haul to make them maybe more than just a matchup
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: dependent start in twenty.
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: Twenty, six.
[1:04:26] Speaker 4: No, and yes Certainly THE bengals i think had the most,
[1:04:31] Speaker 4: improvement overall both in, the offseason the trade that they
[1:04:35] Speaker 4: use their number, ten pick their draft and some of
[1:04:38] Speaker 4: the prospects they. BROUGHT in i don't know that that,
[1:04:41] Speaker 4: pushes them that takes them from a defense you couldn't
[1:04:45] Speaker 4: ever play to a defense that maybe in the, right
[1:04:48] Speaker 4: matchup you. Could stream it's not so when it comes to,
[1:04:51] Speaker 4: playing defense, starting defenses. WHICH matters i don't care that
[1:04:57] Speaker 4: much about. THE defenses i care much more about the.
[1:05:00] Speaker 4: POSING offenses i say this every, draft season like there
[1:05:04] Speaker 4: is usually one or two teams every single season that become.
[1:05:09] Speaker 4: Weekly starters it doesn't matter if you're playing against the,
[1:05:11] Speaker 4: Best offense you're just gonna throw them.
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: In there they're.
[1:05:13] Speaker 4: So dominant oftentimes is not the team you expect going
[1:05:17] Speaker 4: in when you. DRAFT them i, always remember it's been a. While,
[1:05:20] Speaker 4: now gosh this was in Like The blake, bortles era
[1:05:23] Speaker 4: but all of, a sudden out of, One Year jacksonville
[1:05:25] Speaker 4: jaguars defense was the most, dominant defense and you had to.
[1:05:29] Speaker 4: Start that they made a huge impact, on fantasy but
[1:05:31] Speaker 4: no one drafted them, like. THAT right i would much
[1:05:33] Speaker 4: rather just blindly play against the bad quarterbacks and throw
[1:05:39] Speaker 4: whatever defense out there as, humanly possible rather, than say
[1:05:43] Speaker 4: this is a Team that i'm gonna play week in and.
[1:05:45] Speaker 4: Week out, the, downside Though the cowboys And the bengals
[1:05:50] Speaker 4: gave us something so doggone beautiful, last year which was
[1:05:54] Speaker 4: great offenses with. No defense you could not win if
[1:06:00] Speaker 4: you Were the bengals Or, the cowboys if you didn't
[1:06:02] Speaker 4: score thirty, five points and that is a. Beautiful thing
[1:06:05] Speaker 4: AND so i was very disappointed in this draft that
[1:06:08] Speaker 4: both those teams seemed to. REALLY improve, I Mean caleb
[1:06:13] Speaker 4: downs might be the best player in. The draft, you
[1:06:16] Speaker 4: know getting him where they got him. Was great it
[1:06:20] Speaker 4: was a great draft for both. Those teams it sucks
[1:06:22] Speaker 4: for fantasy because, you know when you're looking at the
[1:06:25] Speaker 4: Upside Of.
[1:06:25] Speaker 1: Jamar Chase Or ceedee lamb.
[1:06:29] Speaker 4: At, some point if you're up in the fourth quarter
[1:06:32] Speaker 4: and you've only scored twenty one points but the other
[1:06:34] Speaker 4: team has, to score you're gonna be running the ball
[1:06:36] Speaker 4: and the elite insanity the numbers that Like Win ceedee
[1:06:41] Speaker 4: lamb who's been the number one wide Receiver, In Fantasy,
[1:06:44] Speaker 4: jamar chase who has been the number one wide Receiver.
[1:06:46] Speaker 4: In fantasy those guys get to those insane numbers because
[1:06:49] Speaker 4: they get four quarters of having to throw the ball
[1:06:53] Speaker 4: NonStop in their. GREAT offenses i don't want that to,
[1:06:56] Speaker 4: go away and. It might it might go away now
[1:06:58] Speaker 4: because those two teams really improve, their defenses and.
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: That sucks so you have to have a garbage production
[1:07:05] Speaker 2: draft to figure out which rookies are going to get
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: run either because they're in shootouts all the time or
[1:07:13] Speaker 2: because they're just going to be throwing to come back all.
[1:07:16] Speaker 2: The time and so, You're, like Okay the raiders. Are
[1:07:19] Speaker 2: terrible they're going to be down a lot. This year
[1:07:22] Speaker 2: maybe this sixth round receiver is worth a flyer because
[1:07:25] Speaker 2: there will be targets to be had down thirty.
[1:07:28] Speaker 4: To, ELEVEN yeah i mean there's always bad teams that
[1:07:31] Speaker 4: throw the ball. A lot the problem is you got
[1:07:33] Speaker 4: to find the you gotta find. The combination like you
[1:07:35] Speaker 4: look at the teams. Last, year Okay the jets were down.
[1:07:39] Speaker 4: A lot Obviously the raiders, Good example but who Is
[1:07:42] Speaker 4: the raiders wide receiver that really?
[1:07:43] Speaker 2: Benefited, Nobody right so they need. A quarterback they're just.
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: Not good what you need is.
[1:07:47] Speaker 4: You need the team that has a good quarterback and a.
[1:07:50] Speaker 2: Bad, defense yeah that's what you, look. For, alixir yeah
[1:07:53] Speaker 2: you just take all, those players all the. Offensive players
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: find any team with a bad defense and a, good
[1:07:58] Speaker 2: quarterback you want them. For fantasy that should be A
[1:08:00] Speaker 2: special Hall of fame wing Right, that, like okay you're
[1:08:04] Speaker 2: Not a Hall of, Fame quarterback but what you were
[1:08:06] Speaker 2: able to do despite, your defense was something we have
[1:08:09] Speaker 2: to honor and cherish for generations.
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: To come. For sure his Name Is. Jason moore the
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: show Is The.

[1:08:44] Speaker 4: we know landing spots and all. Of that the, next
[1:08:46] Speaker 4: month we spend all of our. Time grinding we will
[1:08:50] Speaker 4: stat out every single player on every. Single team now
[1:08:52] Speaker 4: that we know free agency, is over the draft, is
[1:08:55] Speaker 4: over the chips have pretty. Much fallen we stat out
[1:08:59] Speaker 4: every player on every team so that we, can have,
[1:09:02] Speaker 4: you know highly accurate predictions of. Fantasy success we'll put
[1:09:06] Speaker 4: all that into our, you know Our Annual Ultimate, draft
[1:09:09] Speaker 4: kit and we just have fun on the show and

[1:09:36] Speaker 3: Jason moore Check Out The. Fantasy footballers it is a
[1:09:40] Speaker 3: great fantasy. Football, PODCAST yes i cannot. Emphasize enough they
[1:09:45] Speaker 3: do an. Awesome job three really good friends who just
[1:09:48] Speaker 3: have fun talking about. These THINGS and i will definitely
[1:09:52] Speaker 3: be tuning in this year to try and battle my
[1:09:55] Speaker 3: issues when it comes to drafting too.
[1:09:57] Speaker 1: Many, rookies yeah.
[1:10:00] Speaker 2: When you do, your, draft, like oh he's still in,
[1:10:01] Speaker 2: the league he's, still good he's still.
[1:10:03] Speaker 1: REALLY okay i have. THIS problem I mean i have
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: that problem more.
[1:10:06] Speaker 3: WITH baseball i stopped playing fantasy BASEBALL because i can't
[1:10:08] Speaker 3: keep track of everybody and the season is, too long
[1:10:10] Speaker 3: and It's just i'm not good at.
[1:10:12] Speaker 1: It anymore it was.
[1:10:13] Speaker 3: Diminishing returns but on the, football side we know most of.
[1:10:17] Speaker 3: THE guys i think the thing that sneaks up on
[1:10:19] Speaker 3: me from a fantasy football standpoint is not knowing who
[1:10:23] Speaker 3: the guys are that, have popped because usually we're so
[1:10:27] Speaker 3: footballed out here from following things On a saturday That
[1:10:30] Speaker 3: when sunday rolls around and really only focus on, the
[1:10:32] Speaker 3: giants right and like who's popping for other teams and
[1:10:36] Speaker 3: going off and like making a name, for themselves a
[1:10:38] Speaker 3: lot of that stuff is off.
[1:10:40] Speaker 1: My, Radar Yeah.
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: Poka naku has been good for. Three, years yeah?
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: Who knew?
[1:10:44] Speaker 2: Who.
[1:10:44] Speaker 3: Knew yeah but the Thing that jason SAID that i
[1:10:47] Speaker 3: think is really. Valuable information and maybe it's sort of
[1:10:51] Speaker 3: like the most obvious thing in, the world but it wasn't.
[1:10:53] Speaker 3: To me don't bet on the bad teams or the
[1:10:57] Speaker 3: players on the.
[1:10:57] Speaker 2: Bad players on the, Bad, teams yeah. Especially rookies, Yeah.
[1:11:00] Speaker 3: Right like there's a reason that People picked alabama to
[1:11:02] Speaker 3: win the national championship or at least get to the
[1:11:04] Speaker 3: playoffs every Years because Alabama Under nick sabel was really
[1:11:07] Speaker 3: freaking good and they got there more often.
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: Than not so just maybe do more, of that and
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: don't try.
[1:11:12] Speaker 3: To be so much of a cowboy when it comes
[1:11:14] Speaker 3: to picking rookies that you just like the sound of.
[1:11:16] Speaker 1: Their NAME can i ask, a? Question please what were your?
[1:11:20] Speaker 2: Draft thoughts TWENTY Six nfl draft is now in The, Books, Thursday.
[1:11:24] Speaker 2: Friday saturday we're recording This, On monday april, twenty seventh
[1:11:27] Speaker 2: so we've seen everything. Sorted out there were some notable.
[1:11:31] Speaker 2: Undrafted Players, diego pavio, you, know obviously given the heights
[1:11:36] Speaker 2: he helped To raise vanderbilt to and the attention that
[1:11:39] Speaker 2: he got as a personality to, the least doesn't.
[1:11:42] Speaker 1: Get.
[1:11:42] Speaker 2: Drafted obviously the physical build isn't what you want necessarily
[1:11:47] Speaker 2: out of a.
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: Prototypical quarterback but.
[1:11:50] Speaker 2: Just in terms of who went where and where Players From,
[1:11:52] Speaker 2: Penn State, notre dame or whoever else you liked in
[1:11:54] Speaker 2: college football and where they, ended up what'd.
[1:11:58] Speaker 3: YOU think i Can't Believe ty simpson went.
[1:12:01] Speaker 2: Number, thirteen yeah and we saw Like the sean McVay
[1:12:05] Speaker 2: press conference where he, seemed annoyed but then it was
[1:12:07] Speaker 2: clarified the next day that he's all In On.
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: Ty, simpson yeah that was a shocker, to Me and i'm.
[1:12:13] Speaker 1: NO scout i don't.
[1:12:15] Speaker 3: Know, That obviously sean McVay has had a pretty good,
[1:12:18] Speaker 3: track record so if he likes, the pick THEN then
[1:12:21] Speaker 3: i think it's probably worth at least paying. Attention to
[1:12:24] Speaker 3: but that one really surprised me and definitely was popular
[1:12:27] Speaker 3: on the, group, chat like.
[1:12:28] Speaker 1: Why what are they?
[1:12:29] Speaker 3: Doing, here okay they're like maybe a couple. Players away
[1:12:32] Speaker 3: their window is open with AN aging mvp caliber quarterback
[1:12:36] Speaker 3: and they're going to go, Back, up, Okay whatever so
[1:12:39] Speaker 3: that was notable.
[1:12:39] Speaker 1: To me.
[1:12:40] Speaker 3: You know, of course much of my attention was focused
[1:12:43] Speaker 3: on What the giants, were DOING and i thought they
[1:12:46] Speaker 3: ended up with a really, good draft and despite the
[1:12:50] Speaker 3: fact that it's a bit questionable maybe to take a
[1:12:53] Speaker 3: running back as highly As the, CARDINALS did i Do
[1:12:57] Speaker 3: think jeremiah loves in a position where he's going to
[1:12:59] Speaker 3: get a ton, of Work and i'm excited to see
[1:13:02] Speaker 3: what that translates to ON the. NFL level, i mean
[1:13:05] Speaker 3: the comp that people were thrown Out Was. REGGIE bush
[1:13:09] Speaker 3: i saw that mentioned more. Than once and when You
[1:13:11] Speaker 3: Mentioned reggie bush as somebody who grew up In The
[1:13:14] Speaker 3: reggie bush era and is very familiar with his body,
[1:13:17] Speaker 3: of work my years perk up a. Little, bit okay
[1:13:20] Speaker 3: if we get to see, that again that'd be. Pretty
[1:13:22] Speaker 3: cool so did see it in college to, an extent
[1:13:25] Speaker 3: but to see what he can do IN the nfl
[1:13:28] Speaker 3: is going to be pretty exciting. To me that the only,
[1:13:30] Speaker 3: OTHER well i have many, other thoughts but just in
[1:13:33] Speaker 3: terms of how the draft, WAS covered i, did cheat,
[1:13:37] Speaker 3: if ever momentarily on Our Friend nate Tye.
[1:13:40] Speaker 1: From yahoo oh, no time try to. Do, Well, LISTEN no.
[1:13:43] Speaker 3: I tried i tried to flip on one of the,
[1:13:45] Speaker 3: major Networks and i'm not going to, say WHO but
[1:13:50] Speaker 3: i made it a about forty five seconds with one
[1:13:56] Speaker 3: of the hosts of a major. Draft, broadcast YEAH and i,
[1:14:04] Speaker 3: WAS like i got to go Back. TO nat i can't.
[1:14:06] Speaker 3: DO this i can't do this. TO myself i made
[1:14:08] Speaker 3: it forty five SECONDS and i, flipped off AND then
[1:14:11] Speaker 3: i was all In on.
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: Nate's, SHOW okay. I flipped. I flipped I mean i
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: got home a little. BIT later i was.
[1:14:17] Speaker 2: FOLLOWING it i was out during the first, few PICKS
[1:14:20] Speaker 2: but i was going Between the yahoo one and Then
[1:14:24] Speaker 2: the athletic one because, oh yeah they did a. GOOD
[1:14:27] Speaker 2: job I saw bruce was doing that SHOW so i
[1:14:29] Speaker 2: watched some of That With, robert mays, BUT yeah i
[1:14:33] Speaker 2: watched a bunch Of The Nate tyson yahoo one, as
[1:14:35] Speaker 2: well and they did a.
[1:14:36] Speaker 1: Great job, so no my.
[1:14:40] Speaker 2: First round thoughts are always kind of the. Same thing
[1:14:43] Speaker 2: and as somebody who doesn't really FOLLOW the nfl, that
[1:14:45] Speaker 2: closely it, was like is the, team bad go offensive
[1:14:48] Speaker 2: liner defense if you don't have, a quarterback go offensive.
[1:14:52] Speaker 2: Liner DEFENSE when i see like, these average blow average
[1:14:56] Speaker 2: or bad teams taking a top ten receiver or a
[1:14:58] Speaker 2: top ten running back or top five, you know, running back,
[1:15:01] Speaker 2: a receiver a top twenty, Tight, end like so you're
[1:15:04] Speaker 2: just Gonna Have geno smith Throw To kenyan sadik and
[1:15:08] Speaker 2: that's the way you're going to get. WAY better i don't,
[1:15:13] Speaker 2: understand it and maybe IT'S because, i mean there's a
[1:15:16] Speaker 2: LIKELY chance i just have no Idea what i'm talking
[1:15:19] Speaker 2: about in TERMS of nfl. Roster construction but that never
[1:15:22] Speaker 2: made a ton of sense, to me where you know
[1:15:25] Speaker 2: you don't have a quarterback and yet you're drafting all
[1:15:28] Speaker 2: these skill. Position Guys jeremiah love you mentioned right To, the.
[1:15:30] Speaker 2: Cardinals yep and It's What Jack kobe brissett.
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: That's, there WELL eventually i talked, about that But Eventually,
[1:15:38] Speaker 1: CARSON beck i.
[1:15:39] Speaker 2: DON'T know I just i feel like those are the
[1:15:41] Speaker 2: guys we're, Just, like oh we are a star running
[1:15:43] Speaker 2: back or receiver away or. Generally receiver if you have an, ESTABLISHED, quarterback,
[1:15:47] Speaker 2: i well we need the number two guy to pair
[1:15:49] Speaker 2: with this guy because their offense can look so good
[1:15:52] Speaker 2: now that We Have joe burrow or whoever as. Our
[1:15:54] Speaker 2: quarterback but if We're Having geno Smith And jacoby brissett,
[1:15:59] Speaker 2: TYPE conversations i, don't, KNOW man i don't, but, LIKE
[1:16:05] Speaker 2: look i guess you could say That About sam darnold
[1:16:07] Speaker 2: With the seahawks right where it didn't seem LIKE.
[1:16:09] Speaker 1: Or i Guess. The vikings he was good With the
[1:16:11] Speaker 1: vikings Before.
[1:16:11] Speaker 2: The Seahawks but i'm always sort of curious about why
[1:16:17] Speaker 2: those types of Teams Like ashton genty ran behind a
[1:16:19] Speaker 2: terrible offensive line, Last, Year right so you just used
[1:16:24] Speaker 2: a Year Of ashton genty's rookie deal on. WASTING it i,
[1:16:28] Speaker 2: don't know it doesn't, make sense, but yeah WHO Am.
[1:16:30] Speaker 3: I well as Our Friend nate, tye said it was
[1:16:32] Speaker 3: a draft that was heavy on defense and, offensive line
[1:16:36] Speaker 3: and so there, were yeah no shortage of those types
[1:16:40] Speaker 3: of guys that went pretty high in. The draft and,
[1:16:44] Speaker 3: you know we'll see if that does build some of
[1:16:47] Speaker 3: something of a foundation for teams that, needed it my own.
[1:16:51] Speaker 3: Team included but certainly when it comes time to make
[1:16:56] Speaker 3: your fantasy selections, this year hopefully that gave you a
[1:16:59] Speaker 3: little bit of insight into how to. APPROACH it i
[1:17:02] Speaker 3: was taking notes. Over, here WAIT so i lost my,
[1:17:05] Speaker 3: notebook already, BUT yeah i was. TAKING notes i got
[1:17:08] Speaker 3: a lot out.
[1:17:08] Speaker 2: Of That So, ty SIMPSON who i really enjoyed watching,
[1:17:11] Speaker 2: last year especially when he was healthy and seemed to
[1:17:13] Speaker 2: have some injury issues later on in, the season especially
[1:17:16] Speaker 2: got hurt In that indiana game has started thirteen games something.
[1:17:20] Speaker 2: Like that, fifteen games. Fifteen games he's going to a
[1:17:23] Speaker 2: team that has a championship window that's currently Open Copyright.
[1:17:27] Speaker 2: Lincoln riley championship window is. Now open i'm gonna get
[1:17:30] Speaker 2: so many sounds for that.
[1:17:31] Speaker 1: This season championship window. Okay open and.
[1:17:38] Speaker 2: They could have had anybody but the top twelve players
[1:17:41] Speaker 2: selected any college football player eligible for, the draft and
[1:17:45] Speaker 2: they said, to themselves gotta grab a, backup here gotta grab.
[1:17:49] Speaker 1: A backup i need, the backup gotta grab. THAT backup i.
[1:17:53] Speaker 2: DON'T know i always think those kinds of decisions.
[1:17:55] Speaker 1: ARE puzzling i.
[1:17:57] Speaker 3: Don't, know well then it came out THAT THE rams
[1:18:01] Speaker 3: gm is Close with Jason simpson, tis dad and THAT
[1:18:06] Speaker 3: the gm personally helped advise that draft decision to come
[1:18:11] Speaker 3: out instead of going back.
[1:18:12] Speaker 1: To school. SO interesting i.
[1:18:15] Speaker 3: Don't know if there's any kind of home cooking there
[1:18:17] Speaker 3: or what, went On But ty simpson wants to pick
[1:18:19] Speaker 3: at thirteen and definitely ruffled.
[1:18:22] Speaker 1: SOME feathers i did, enjoy it and look. It was
[1:18:24] Speaker 1: it was clarified after.
[1:18:25] Speaker 2: THE fact i DON'T consume nfl, media really But the
[1:18:30] Speaker 2: sean McVay, Was like i'm gonna keep that personal about
[1:18:33] Speaker 2: the conversation he Had With matt stafford after he told
[1:18:36] Speaker 2: him that they were gonna think about taking a, quarterback
[1:18:38] Speaker 2: there he just, seemed irked and then it was all
[1:18:42] Speaker 2: clarified the next day that he was. All in but
[1:18:44] Speaker 2: then you see the Clips of sean McVay in previous
[1:18:46] Speaker 2: years talking about, draft picks, you're, like, oh man this
[1:18:49] Speaker 2: guy is Gonna do he's gonna, DO, THIS x Y
[1:18:51] Speaker 2: and z, for, us, like oh we can't wait to
[1:18:52] Speaker 2: see what, we have and he, was, like well yep.
[1:18:54] Speaker 2: He is he's going to compete for the number two
[1:18:56] Speaker 2: Job With stetson bennett and we'll go.
