For years, you've asked us to do a Super Bowl preview. We finally did it, but with the only spin that makes sense for a college football podcast: looking at Super Bowl LX entirely through the stories, moments, and legacies these players built in college. When the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots kick off Sunday night, it won't just be two NFL teams battling for a championship. It will be Sam Darnold's redemption story that started at USC, Jaxon Smith-Njigba's effortless brilliance that lifted Ohio State, Kenneth Walker dragging Michigan State to glory, and Drake Maye carrying on North Carolina's royal lineage. Join us as we break down both rosters, revisit the moments that made these players who they are, and enjoy Super Bowl 60 as one big college reunion. ## Transcript

[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal.
[0:05] Speaker 2: For me, I'm a man, I'm for I've heard so
[0:08] Speaker 2: many players say, well, I want to be happy.
[0:10] Speaker 1: You want to be happy for day Edith State is
[0:13] Speaker 1: that woo woom? And Dan and Tye Dan Rubinstein. As
[0:20] Speaker 1: you know, we ask for feedback on nearly every episode
[0:27] Speaker 1: of this podcast that we've done over the years, and
[0:30] Speaker 1: we get a lot, overwhelmingly get a lot of it. Yeah,
[0:34] Speaker 1: Today we are going to test out one of those
[0:37] Speaker 1: concepts that has been sent to us a great many
[0:41] Speaker 1: times over the years. We're going to remove the shackles
[0:43] Speaker 1: of the NC double A and the transfer portal and
[0:48] Speaker 1: uh secspn uh huh, sure you name it. Today we
[0:54] Speaker 1: are doing our version of a Super Bowl preview, My
[0:59] Speaker 1: good friend.
[0:59] Speaker 2: How are I'm good for anybody counting on us to
[1:03] Speaker 2: offer any sort of insight about the Super Bowl itself?
[1:07] Speaker 2: Wrong show? Yeah, cannot stress enough. But I'm doing really well.
[1:13] Speaker 2: You know, I'm thriving in the cold here in the
[1:15] Speaker 2: tundra because this is going to be an exciting, fun
[1:17] Speaker 2: show that takes us back I guess the last maybe fifteen, fourteen,
[1:21] Speaker 2: thirteen years or so of college football.
[1:25] Speaker 1: So I'm doing really well.
[1:27] Speaker 2: Because I got to relive a bunch of stuff because
[1:30] Speaker 2: we are looking at the Super Bowl through the prism
[1:33] Speaker 2: through the lens of college football and going back and
[1:37] Speaker 2: remembering some guys who happened to be starting or contributing
[1:41] Speaker 2: to these Super Bowl teams in the New England Patriots
[1:44] Speaker 2: and Seattle Seahawks, and I don't know it actually, like
[1:49] Speaker 2: I don't watch a lot of the NFL. I watch
[1:51] Speaker 2: a little bit more during the playoffs, but I don't
[1:53] Speaker 2: really have a guidepost or anything for how these teams
[1:57] Speaker 2: are and where they're strong and where they're not so strong,
[1:59] Speaker 2: beyond on like mainstream conversations of like the Seahawks defense
[2:04] Speaker 2: or something. So this actually added a terrific amount of
[2:08] Speaker 2: context to hopefully enjoy the game even more than I'm
[2:11] Speaker 2: already planning to. I stress, please. This is our version
[2:17] Speaker 2: of a Super Bowl sixty preview, which inherently means it's
[2:20] Speaker 2: going to be different than everybody else's.
[2:21] Speaker 1: That's just how we roll here. But think of it
[2:24] Speaker 1: less of a preview and more of you know, like
[2:29] Speaker 1: we talk about look aheads, this is more of a
[2:31] Speaker 1: look back players stories, how they performed in college, some
[2:37] Speaker 1: notable moments from when they were in college. And I
[2:41] Speaker 1: will add, even though to your point, we focus on
[2:44] Speaker 1: college overwhelmingly here on the podcast, even those times when
[2:49] Speaker 1: we decide to venture into parts unknown with our conversations, right,
[2:56] Speaker 1: there are still just a great number of advanced metrics
[3:01] Speaker 1: that are out there for all of these teams. Like
[3:03] Speaker 1: you and I are scraping things together. We're accessing dark spreadsheets,
[3:08] Speaker 1: you name it, to try and get these stats on
[3:10] Speaker 1: the college side of things. But the one thing the
[3:12] Speaker 1: NFL does well, they make all of this stuff available.
[3:15] Speaker 1: So I was actually able to go in there and
[3:17] Speaker 1: poke around a little bit and get some context on
[3:20] Speaker 1: the statistical level, sure with what's going to go on
[3:22] Speaker 1: in this game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
[3:27] Speaker 2: So I'll leave you in charge of that. I don't
[3:29] Speaker 2: have any thoughts about the game now, I can do
[3:30] Speaker 2: that we're doing, by the way, and this is especially
[3:33] Speaker 2: fun because look what we're doing is we're saying, here
[3:35] Speaker 2: are the college football players playing that happened to be
[3:37] Speaker 2: playing in this super Bowl. Because the NFL is just
[3:40] Speaker 2: you know, it's just a number of exhibitions after the
[3:42] Speaker 2: real careers ended in college. What do these players do
[3:47] Speaker 2: between Sundays, they make bets when their teams play each other,
[3:50] Speaker 2: their alma maters play each other, and they have to.
[3:52] Speaker 2: Like we saw Patrick Mahomes wearing an Oregon jersey after
[3:55] Speaker 2: Texas Tech lost to Oregon in the playoff, right, Like
[3:58] Speaker 2: once a Red Raider, always a Red Racee, or once
[4:00] Speaker 2: a tar Heel, always a tar Heel. And these guys
[4:03] Speaker 2: go back when they can for big games, for spring games,
[4:06] Speaker 2: Like there is something about college football that is in
[4:09] Speaker 2: these players DNA that's just different than being a Kansas
[4:14] Speaker 2: City Chief, a Chicago Bear, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or
[4:17] Speaker 2: at least I consider that to be the case of
[4:19] Speaker 2: somebody who covers college football. But I think that's true.
[4:22] Speaker 2: I think there's still more emotion tied to choosing where
[4:26] Speaker 2: you're going to go to school or where you're going
[4:27] Speaker 2: to transfer to, rather than where you're drafted or where
[4:31] Speaker 2: you're traded to, or where you decide eventually that like, okay,
[4:34] Speaker 2: this is my best option as a free agent that
[4:38] Speaker 2: I don't know. There's a lot less romance in college football,
[4:41] Speaker 2: But for a lot of these guys who have thrived
[4:43] Speaker 2: on the football field, it still seems as if like
[4:47] Speaker 2: they're all still like in their hearts college football players
[4:50] Speaker 2: who are happy to take the money from the NFL.
[4:52] Speaker 1: That's my viewpoint. Fair enough. Socerboodgmail dot com, as always,
[4:57] Speaker 1: is the email address if you want to write in
[4:59] Speaker 1: with your own predictions, any feedback for the show as
[5:02] Speaker 1: we I think are or as I think we are
[5:05] Speaker 1: illustrating on this prog pup, you're good. As I think
[5:09] Speaker 1: we are illustrating on today's podcast. We are willing to
[5:12] Speaker 1: take in your feedback sure and put some of those
[5:16] Speaker 1: suggestions into play. So we're going to give that a
[5:19] Speaker 1: go today. Verballers dot com again is where you can
[5:22] Speaker 1: go if you want to support the team, be a
[5:25] Speaker 1: certified or premium for baller. Just check out to see
[5:27] Speaker 1: what is going on. But that's not for you, that's cool,
[5:30] Speaker 1: Hit follow, hit subscribe. We will return you to our
[5:33] Speaker 1: normally scheduled college football programming next week. Yes, absolutely, should
[5:39] Speaker 1: we dive in. Let's go, damn time the week they
[5:46] Speaker 1: can play it, right, I think? So that's fine. Super
[5:51] Speaker 1: Bowl sixty This Sunday, February the eighth, six thirty pm
[5:58] Speaker 1: Eastern time. They're playing it at Levi's Stadium in Santa
[6:02] Speaker 1: Clara California. I have some interesting nuggets on that. Okay,
[6:08] Speaker 1: this is the second time that Santa Clara has hosted
[6:11] Speaker 1: a Super Bowl. Did you know? It is the fourteenth
[6:14] Speaker 1: time that the super Bowl is being played in the
[6:16] Speaker 1: great state of California. Did not? That is second only
[6:21] Speaker 1: to Florida, which has hosted the super Bowl seventeen times.
[6:25] Speaker 1: Which quick math check, thirty one super Bowls have been
[6:29] Speaker 1: played in either California or the state of Florida. That
[6:35] Speaker 1: is over half. That is exactly one super Bowl over
[6:38] Speaker 1: the halfway point. Most of them are played in one
[6:40] Speaker 1: of those two states. On the call, we're going to
[6:44] Speaker 1: have Mike Turico and Chris Collinsworth. Chris Collinsworth has called
[6:47] Speaker 1: six super Bowls. Interestingly enough, Mike Turrico has never called one.
[6:51] Speaker 1: You believe that Dude's been everywhere, has done everything, He's
[6:54] Speaker 1: never done this. So this is going to be Mike
[6:57] Speaker 1: Ico's first Super Bowl.
[6:58] Speaker 2: I like Mike Rico, Sarah Orange Turkey, that is Chris
[7:02] Speaker 2: collins with Florida Gator.
[7:04] Speaker 1: I believe, So yeah, yeah, continue. This is a matchup
[7:07] Speaker 1: between two teams that are fourteen and three of the
[7:10] Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks coming out of the NFC West the New
[7:14] Speaker 1: England Patriots coming out of the AFC East. Right now
[7:18] Speaker 1: at time of recording, Seattle favored by about four and
[7:21] Speaker 1: a half points. I looked last night. It's something like
[7:24] Speaker 1: sixty five percent of the bets seventy one percent of
[7:26] Speaker 1: the money right now on the Seattle Seahawks. That line
[7:29] Speaker 1: is up. I believe it opened around a field goal
[7:32] Speaker 1: or so. A lot of money came in on the Seahawks,
[7:35] Speaker 1: and it seems like they are the betting favorite, at
[7:37] Speaker 1: least among the public betters out there. Another interesting factoid,
[7:42] Speaker 1: this is the tenth Super Bowl rematch in NFL history,
[7:47] Speaker 1: meaning they played before in a Super Bowl. The winner
[7:51] Speaker 1: of the first meeting in previous Super Bowl rematches is
[7:56] Speaker 1: six and three in the second time around. This one
[8:01] Speaker 1: is a rematch. They played this game back in twenty fifteen.
[8:03] Speaker 1: It was one of the great Super Bowls. Actually, Patriots
[8:06] Speaker 1: is a Malcolm Butler. Yeah, Patriots won twenty eight to
[8:09] Speaker 1: twenty four. Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson on the last
[8:12] Speaker 1: play of the game from the one yard line, which
[8:14] Speaker 1: would have given Seattle obviously the lead and the win
[8:18] Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl. But a very dramatic finish. If
[8:22] Speaker 1: you take that at face value, that would seem to
[8:25] Speaker 1: benefit quirky stat I get it would seem to benefit
[8:29] Speaker 1: the New England Patriots in this matchup. There's your I
[8:34] Speaker 1: guess context for what is going on here.
[8:37] Speaker 2: I'll add, I'll add so it's Russell Wilson, NC State,
[8:41] Speaker 2: Wisconsin correct, NC State legend, Russell Wilson, teammate of Nate Tice,
[8:48] Speaker 2: good friend, our spring guests, our spring guest annually, West
[8:52] Speaker 2: Alabama Malcolm Butler, West Alabama Tigers also on the call.
[8:57] Speaker 2: Should just add Proud who Melissa's a Stark Virginia Wow, Yeah,
[9:03] Speaker 2: Washington and Lee Kaylee Hartong from Baton Rouge, friend of
[9:07] Speaker 2: the show, Deep Lsu tuies. But I'm just trying to
[9:12] Speaker 2: spin the college tie. I'm just trying to spin the
[9:13] Speaker 2: college continue.
[9:15] Speaker 1: So here's what we did. You and I we broke
[9:18] Speaker 1: this up a little bit. You took the Seattle Seahawks.
[9:21] Speaker 1: I took the New England Patriots, and we did a
[9:25] Speaker 1: deep dive of the players, the schools they went to,
[9:28] Speaker 1: the stories that come to mind when we think of
[9:31] Speaker 1: those players, and obviously a bunch more that we found
[9:33] Speaker 1: when we did some of our homework here. This is,
[9:36] Speaker 1: in effect a stroll down memory lane. So if you're
[9:40] Speaker 1: a college football fan, even if you're an NFL fan
[9:43] Speaker 1: finding this for the first time, we're, as I said
[9:47] Speaker 1: a couple times now, going to provide a little bit
[9:49] Speaker 1: of a different spin on the Super Bowl. Why don't
[9:52] Speaker 1: you kick things off here with the favorite Seattle Seahawks.
[9:55] Speaker 2: All right, So there's a ton that's super interesting about
[9:57] Speaker 2: Seahawks players in college. And I took the Seahawks because
[10:00] Speaker 2: not only am I from the West Coast, but there's
[10:03] Speaker 2: just a lot of West Coast to this Seattle Seahawks
[10:07] Speaker 2: roster in terms of college and where they grew up.
[10:09] Speaker 1: How do you feel about the Seahawks as a Niner fan?
[10:12] Speaker 1: Are you split here a little bit?
[10:14] Speaker 2: I've told my sons I'm rooting for the Patriots because
[10:17] Speaker 2: a Niners fan just can't root for the Seahawks. But
[10:21] Speaker 2: after sort of refreshing my memory banks about all of
[10:25] Speaker 2: these players on the Seahawks, I don't know, man, it's
[10:29] Speaker 2: kind of cool, like and I have Seahawks friends. Remember
[10:31] Speaker 2: we had Mina Chimes on the show and Matt Hufferd.
[10:33] Speaker 2: I go way back with a good friend like, there's
[10:36] Speaker 2: a lot of Seahawks people in my life, so I
[10:38] Speaker 2: would be happy for them, given how they lost the
[10:41] Speaker 2: Patriots Super Bowl the first time. I'm not fully on
[10:44] Speaker 2: board with rooting for the Seahawks, but it would be
[10:46] Speaker 2: cool given some of the backgrounds. And I'm sure would
[10:49] Speaker 2: be cool to see the Patriots given some of the
[10:51] Speaker 2: backgrounds that you'll go go over. But the Seahawks are
[10:54] Speaker 2: really interesting just from a college football perspective. Okay, Mike
[10:58] Speaker 2: McDonald head coach, has extreme college football ties. Was the
[11:02] Speaker 2: twenty twenty one Michigan I believe it was twenty twenty
[11:05] Speaker 2: one Michigan defensive coordinator and they were excellent, and that
[11:09] Speaker 2: was the Ravens connection with he and Jesse Minter and
[11:11] Speaker 2: then bring Martindale and the Harbaugh brothers. He started out,
[11:15] Speaker 2: he went to Georgia. He was a student assistant at Georgia.
[11:18] Speaker 2: He was coaching in high school while he was a
[11:20] Speaker 2: student at Georgia, and then got an internship with the
[11:24] Speaker 2: Ravens and worked his way up before taking the one
[11:26] Speaker 2: year at Michigan as their DC and installing that lethal
[11:30] Speaker 2: zone defense that Michigan ran all the way to a
[11:33] Speaker 2: national championship. So if the Seahawks win, not only is
[11:37] Speaker 2: it a win for Mike McDonald, but it is a
[11:40] Speaker 2: win for the Todd Grantham coaching trees. I never forget
[11:46] Speaker 2: offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak was a good safety for Colorado
[11:50] Speaker 2: State and was on the staff with first Mike Sherman
[11:55] Speaker 2: and then Kevin Somelin at Texas A and m was
[11:57] Speaker 2: there in twenty twelve as a GA for or the
[12:00] Speaker 2: Johnny Football Heisman year.
[12:02] Speaker 1: If you'll oh, that's right, that's right, And he's going
[12:04] Speaker 1: to be the next coach for the Raiders, isn't he.
[12:06] Speaker 1: I think that's true.
[12:07] Speaker 2: Yes, their defensive coordinator is British, so there was no
[12:10] Speaker 2: specific connection to college football, but a cool story nonetheless,
[12:14] Speaker 2: as he worked his way up the American football ranks,
[12:17] Speaker 2: you know Sam Donald's going to be the big name
[12:19] Speaker 2: on offense. Sam Donald's was super overlooked for much of
[12:23] Speaker 2: his recruitment and if you'll remember so USC the class
[12:27] Speaker 2: that he committed or signed with USC in he was
[12:32] Speaker 2: kind of an afterthought. He's local, He's from San Clementy,
[12:35] Speaker 2: and Orange County has like the shaggy hair Orange County
[12:38] Speaker 2: bro look. Played a bunch of sports in high school.
[12:41] Speaker 2: But the name that everybody was excited about going in
[12:44] Speaker 2: was do you remember this at all that year? It's impossible.
[12:48] Speaker 2: This is like twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, Yeah, Ricky Town.
[12:53] Speaker 2: So wacky Town committed to Bama, switched to SC junior college,
[12:58] Speaker 2: pitt and Arkansas, so he bounced around a ton, never
[13:02] Speaker 2: really took hold as a college football quarterback. Sam Donald
[13:06] Speaker 2: comes in and Max Brown has written about this. Max Brown,
[13:09] Speaker 2: another five star quarterback for USC, waiting in the wings
[13:12] Speaker 2: for his turn. After Cody Kessler starts the game against
[13:15] Speaker 2: Alabama in which Alabama absolutely mummifies USC. Max Brown starts
[13:22] Speaker 2: that game, gets pulled in that game, and a couple
[13:24] Speaker 2: starts later, gets pulled in favor of Sam Donald, who's
[13:28] Speaker 2: much younger for USC. Sam Donald never lets go of
[13:32] Speaker 2: the job and is the high point of the Clay
[13:37] Speaker 2: Helton era as a quarterback, and that sort of his
[13:41] Speaker 2: apex just in terms of national visibility. And he has
[13:44] Speaker 2: big wins. You know, they beat Washington the year Washington
[13:46] Speaker 2: goes to the playoff, but that Penn State Rose Bowl
[13:49] Speaker 2: was just absurd. Oh man, So I went back. I
[13:52] Speaker 2: think I told you when we were putting this together.
[13:54] Speaker 1: I went back and I looked at some highlights from
[13:58] Speaker 1: that game. I mean that was one where say Kwan
[14:00] Speaker 1: went off, had almost like two hundred yards. That was
[14:02] Speaker 1: a Chris Guyan game, and you know, USC ended up
[14:05] Speaker 1: winning it. But all the points, a lot of back
[14:09] Speaker 1: and forth, exactly what you want from a game like
[14:13] Speaker 1: the Rose Bowl. Correct, that was so much fun to watch. Obviously,
[14:16] Speaker 1: you know I would have hoped for a different result,
[14:18] Speaker 1: but nonetheless, man, that was that was a lot of fun.
[14:21] Speaker 2: So yeah, Penn State scores zero points in both the
[14:24] Speaker 2: first and fourth quarters. They have a double digit lead
[14:27] Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter that they gag away a ton
[14:30] Speaker 2: of turnover. I think Trace mcstirley threw three picks in
[14:32] Speaker 2: this game. Sam Darmoer, you can see how raw he
[14:36] Speaker 2: is as a quarterback. You can kind of see that.
[14:38] Speaker 2: I mean, it's very obviously he's an incredible athlete. He's
[14:40] Speaker 2: got a big arm, but like the it's got like
[14:42] Speaker 2: kind of a John Elway overhand motion, and he's like
[14:45] Speaker 2: dirting balls. He's overthrowing open dudes and still finishes with
[14:49] Speaker 2: four hundred and fifty yards passing in this game and
[14:52] Speaker 2: could have gone for five point fifty so that was
[14:55] Speaker 2: an incredible game. Having a great career at USC, I
[14:59] Speaker 2: believe only starts for two years before entering the draft
[15:02] Speaker 2: because it just his his stock was too high, not
[15:05] Speaker 2: too but just in terms of where USC has been,
[15:09] Speaker 2: he was certainly a high point with some up and
[15:12] Speaker 2: down years in the in the years following and the
[15:15] Speaker 2: way the Clay Helton era ended. So Sam Donald huge name.
[15:18] Speaker 2: I know, he's bounced around the NFL a little bit
[15:20] Speaker 2: and you know, you get the Jets era and everything
[15:22] Speaker 2: like that. But a cool story nonetheless for Sam Donald
[15:24] Speaker 2: on the West Coast to thrive in Seattle.
[15:28] Speaker 1: Also of note, his grandfather was the Marlborough Man, a genleman.
[15:31] Speaker 1: But Dick Hammer, right, Dick Hammer. Yeah, that that has
[15:35] Speaker 1: been an ongoing thing that has been noted.
[15:38] Speaker 2: Needs to be mentioned, needs to be mentioned. There's like
[15:41] Speaker 2: there's a lot of like college football like guys names
[15:45] Speaker 2: on this Seattle roster, like Jackson Smith and Jig was
[15:47] Speaker 2: the other one. I think he's considered to be like
[15:49] Speaker 2: if he's not the best receiver in the NFL, he's
[15:52] Speaker 2: one of two three something like that.
[15:54] Speaker 1: There was there was a conversation that they had in
[15:57] Speaker 1: the booth. It was Tom Brady, who was breaking down
[16:02] Speaker 1: why JSN is so good at what he does. It
[16:05] Speaker 1: took him a little bit to kind of get cooking
[16:07] Speaker 1: in the NFL, but he talked about how he never
[16:12] Speaker 1: alters the angle of his shoulder pets i e. He's
[16:16] Speaker 1: not tipping his pitches. He's not showing defenders which direction
[16:21] Speaker 1: he's going to go next. And given the fact that
[16:24] Speaker 1: he and we knew this when he was in college
[16:26] Speaker 1: at Ohio State, this is one of the scouting reports
[16:28] Speaker 1: when he came out, that he's just so smooth into
[16:32] Speaker 1: and out of his breaks that if you're a defender,
[16:36] Speaker 1: he's passed you before you even know it. So you're
[16:38] Speaker 1: always looking for any kind of tell which direction is
[16:41] Speaker 1: this guy going to go next. The fact that he
[16:43] Speaker 1: does not do that is a big part of why
[16:45] Speaker 1: he has been so damn dominant. Right again, college football
[16:50] Speaker 1: show right or not exactly deep in the weeds of
[16:53] Speaker 1: what goes on on the NFL level. But you and
[16:54] Speaker 1: I both watched the playoffs. I think pretty intently we
[16:56] Speaker 1: care about that because it's interesting. He is unstoppable right now.
[17:02] Speaker 1: Teams cannot cover him. He finds a way to get open.
[17:05] Speaker 1: Maybe not just solely because of that. The Kubiak system
[17:08] Speaker 1: has been something of a revelation for Sam Darnold and
[17:11] Speaker 1: really that entire offense, but his ability to sort of
[17:17] Speaker 1: be that smooth when he is running routes is just
[17:21] Speaker 1: incredible to watch. And he's gonna have a big game.
[17:23] Speaker 1: That's one of the things I jotted down here. I
[17:26] Speaker 1: think he's gonna have a huge game against New England
[17:28] Speaker 1: and if there is a matchup advantage, this is one
[17:31] Speaker 1: of those things that I gravitate towards. But jasaid the
[17:34] Speaker 1: story of JSN this year, in the year that he's
[17:36] Speaker 1: had something like seventeen hundred receiving yards, I mean, it's
[17:39] Speaker 1: been it's been a really good year for him.
[17:41] Speaker 2: He exhibits the single most annoying thing for those of
[17:46] Speaker 2: us who are not naturally elite athletes, and that's doing
[17:50] Speaker 2: what he does effortlessly. Yes, no matter the sport. Right,
[17:54] Speaker 2: if you watch a basketball player who's able to accelerate
[17:57] Speaker 2: and decelerate on a dime, If you watch a tennis
[18:00] Speaker 2: player who doesn't sweat and can you know, serve a
[18:03] Speaker 2: ball you know, seven different ways with the same toss
[18:06] Speaker 2: right in baseball, right that if a player is just
[18:10] Speaker 2: so patient at the plate and you're like, no, I'm
[18:11] Speaker 2: just gonna wait for my pitch and then just crank
[18:13] Speaker 2: it over the left field wall. Like there's just there's
[18:16] Speaker 2: something effortless about Jackson Smith and Jigba and you're gonna
[18:19] Speaker 2: be shocked to learn totally on display at Ohio State.
[18:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, it was incredible at Ohio State.
[18:23] Speaker 2: It plays sparingly as a freshman, but makes like an
[18:25] Speaker 2: incredible toe tap, like an all time modern toe tap
[18:28] Speaker 2: against Nebraska. If you remember, remember that the game was
[18:31] Speaker 2: with it was I want to say it was twenty
[18:33] Speaker 2: twenty and it was or maybe twenty twenty one when
[18:38] Speaker 2: it was Joel Clatt and Gus Johnson and they watched
[18:41] Speaker 2: him catch a ball out of the back of the
[18:44] Speaker 2: end zone. They're like, well, that's a good catch, but
[18:46] Speaker 2: you know that's incomplete, and then they go back and
[18:48] Speaker 2: watch it in slow motion They're like, holy hell, what
[18:52] Speaker 2: so that was like a cool welcome to college football
[18:55] Speaker 2: twenty twenty one Ohio State tie. That's the famed Chris
[18:59] Speaker 2: olave Gara, Wilson, Jackson Smith and Jigba and not only
[19:02] Speaker 2: jacksonth and jib but and Marvin Harrison Junior and not
[19:05] Speaker 2: even just like a Mecca Buka's on that team. Gee
[19:08] Speaker 2: Scott's on that team. Trey Henderson's on that team.
[19:10] Speaker 1: CJ.
[19:11] Speaker 2: Stroud is the quarterback. And that goes to show you, Ty,
[19:15] Speaker 2: that's how good Aiden Hutchinson was in that Michigan game.
[19:20] Speaker 2: He could single handedly swallow up an offense to the
[19:23] Speaker 2: point where they could not get it to those dudes.
[19:26] Speaker 2: And it was also Kerry Coombs for Ohio State. Whatever
[19:29] Speaker 2: he goes for over two hundred against Nebraska in twenty
[19:32] Speaker 2: twenty two. I hope I'm getting all my years right
[19:35] Speaker 2: here and finishes out that I'm gonna you can correct me,
[19:40] Speaker 2: please fact check me on the years here his apex
[19:45] Speaker 2: because he doesn't really play his final season in college
[19:47] Speaker 2: because he has.
[19:47] Speaker 1: A nagging hamstring injury.
[19:48] Speaker 2: But the year before that, if you remember Chris o'lave
[19:51] Speaker 2: and Garrett Wilson opt out of the Rose Bowl, Kirk
[19:54] Speaker 2: Herbstreet is damn near tears on no sleep, right like
[19:58] Speaker 2: what is happening? And Jackson Smith and Jigba effortlessly lights up.
[20:06] Speaker 2: Michael Bernard, who is not a cornerback for Utah. He's
[20:09] Speaker 2: the running back put in at cornerback because they're thinn
[20:11] Speaker 2: in the secondary, effortlessly goes for three hundred and forty
[20:16] Speaker 2: plus yards in a Rose Bowl shootout win for Ohio State.
[20:22] Speaker 2: That's an absurd number. Could have been more, could have
[20:25] Speaker 2: had more touchdowns. I think he fumbled it inside the
[20:26] Speaker 2: five yard line on a long catch, so could have
[20:28] Speaker 2: had more touchdowns. Is playing college football as an NFL
[20:33] Speaker 2: player as a technical like sophomore in college and those
[20:39] Speaker 2: guys readily admit Olave and Garrett Wilson, like, oh, yeah,
[20:41] Speaker 2: he was the best one.
[20:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[20:42] Speaker 2: It was the twenty Rose, the twenty twenty two Rose Bulls,
[20:45] Speaker 2: so it was following the twenty twenty one season.
[20:47] Speaker 1: That's right, yep. It was three hundred and forty seven
[20:50] Speaker 1: yards on fifteen catches and three touchdowns Ohio State one
[20:54] Speaker 1: forty eight to forty five. Another shootout in the Rose.
[20:56] Speaker 1: Incredible game. Yeah.
[20:58] Speaker 2: So that's Jackson Smith in Jigba and is just effortlessly
[21:03] Speaker 2: and it's just it's funny to see like an Ohio
[21:06] Speaker 2: State receiver lighting up teams and then opposite him is
[21:09] Speaker 2: a Weber State receiver in Rashid's Shaheed, who is also
[21:14] Speaker 2: like fascinating. Could have run track at usc like unbelievable speed,
[21:17] Speaker 2: but wanted to play football, and Weaber State is where
[21:19] Speaker 2: he got his opportunity. And I think he's been very
[21:23] Speaker 2: good for the Seahawks. I don't watch a lot of
[21:24] Speaker 2: Seahawks games, but like an absurd amount of speed, and
[21:28] Speaker 2: opposite him Eastern Washington legend Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup, who
[21:34] Speaker 2: is from Yakima, Washington, could not get a callback Tye
[21:39] Speaker 2: could not get a sniff from the University of Washington.
[21:42] Speaker 2: Mike Leech offers him a preferred walk on spot, like
[21:45] Speaker 2: right after he gets hired, but he had already committed
[21:47] Speaker 2: to Eastern Washington. Couldn't get a sniff from Boise State.
[21:50] Speaker 2: And Chris Peterson, who like seems like that would be
[21:53] Speaker 2: a perfect fit giving he's from Yakima. And Cooper Cup,
[21:57] Speaker 2: I think his I mean, he wins every like conceivable
[21:59] Speaker 2: award and he's a receiving legend on the FCS level.
[22:01] Speaker 2: Sure lights up Oregon for two hundred and forty plus
[22:05] Speaker 2: yards in Audson opposite Vernon Adams, his one time quarterback
[22:08] Speaker 2: at Eastern Washington and oh my god, half of that game.
[22:12] Speaker 2: Kevin Callabro who was former voice of the Sonics and
[22:15] Speaker 2: Blazers is calling him connor Cup because and I don't
[22:18] Speaker 2: even blame him. You're just like I, who is this
[22:21] Speaker 2: FCS receiver lighting up? It was a good Oregon team.
[22:23] Speaker 2: It was an awful defense, but it was a good
[22:25] Speaker 2: Oregon team that season. And Connor Cup call him connor Cup.
[22:29] Speaker 2: Half the game. Our friend Yogi Roth also on the call.
[22:33] Speaker 2: He's a fully unstoppable force in that game, Cooper Cup,
[22:36] Speaker 2: And to nobody's surprise, he was incredible for the Rams
[22:39] Speaker 2: and is now very good for the Seahawks. And it's
[22:41] Speaker 2: cool that he's playing in his home state. But yeah,
[22:45] Speaker 2: he was. He was a tiny high school kid. He
[22:47] Speaker 2: was overlooked because of size. He peaked late, but just
[22:50] Speaker 2: an absurd, absurd college football talent who would have thrived
[22:53] Speaker 2: no matter where he played.
[22:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my gosh.
[22:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, another big college name. By the way, just in
[22:59] Speaker 2: terms of affecting the national scene, Kenneth Walker is I
[23:03] Speaker 2: think the starting running.
[23:04] Speaker 1: Back for the Walk and the third man. I I
[23:08] Speaker 1: got a tip that I should bet the over on
[23:14] Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker rushing yards. I think it won. It might
[23:17] Speaker 1: have been the NFC Championship, it might have been the
[23:19] Speaker 1: game before that, and I was sweating it out for
[23:22] Speaker 1: a little bit, but it eventually came through. He always
[23:25] Speaker 1: I remember back to what he did at Michigan State.
[23:30] Speaker 1: I don't remember him being this fast at Michigan State,
[23:33] Speaker 1: although I'm sure he's not any slower now than he
[23:35] Speaker 1: was fast enough, tie faster than anybody chasing you. Yeah,
[23:39] Speaker 1: what strikes me. And I mean we knew, we knew
[23:42] Speaker 1: in college that he was going to end up being
[23:44] Speaker 1: a good pro because he was very much the catalyst
[23:46] Speaker 1: for that Michigan State team and they had a really
[23:47] Speaker 1: good year. But what really strikes me in watching him
[23:52] Speaker 1: so far throughout the playoffs this year a very much
[23:57] Speaker 1: a downhill runner. B dude's got moves. Yeah he's I mean,
[24:01] Speaker 1: he's not Saquon, but he's got moves. He's a downhill runner.
[24:06] Speaker 1: And I think the ability for him to be used
[24:09] Speaker 1: out of the backfield in the passing game is going
[24:12] Speaker 1: to be something that has a major influence on this game.
[24:14] Speaker 1: Because New England plays a run pretty well, they really do.
[24:18] Speaker 1: But Kenneth Walker has shown I think it's like nine
[24:20] Speaker 1: point one yards per reception so far this year twenty
[24:26] Speaker 1: some odd catches out of the backfield. It wouldn't surprise
[24:29] Speaker 1: me at all, at least based on the numbers I
[24:31] Speaker 1: saw if they end up using him a little bit
[24:34] Speaker 1: more out of the backfield in this game against New
[24:36] Speaker 1: England because they are so good upfront.
[24:39] Speaker 2: Can I tell you why he has to have good
[24:41] Speaker 2: moves because he began his career at Wake Forest where
[24:46] Speaker 2: he had to start his runs from a stroll running
[24:50] Speaker 2: the slow mesh the Dave flosson slow mesh, and so
[24:54] Speaker 2: he was great at Wake Forest. He got like a
[24:57] Speaker 2: late offer to play at wake Forest. I think he
[24:59] Speaker 2: was committed to Kent State. Tiny dude, and so he's
[25:03] Speaker 2: a MAC level recruit until Wake came in and transfers
[25:07] Speaker 2: to Michigan State. Basically drags Michigan State to an incredible season.
[25:13] Speaker 2: I mean it's a Peyton Thorn team. At quarterback, he's
[25:16] Speaker 2: not incredible. I mean they're pretty good at receiver. Obviously
[25:19] Speaker 2: the defense came to play. But offensively, what he was
[25:22] Speaker 2: able to do just lighting teams up incredible and they
[25:26] Speaker 2: get they do get murdered by that Ohio State team. Yes,
[25:29] Speaker 2: at the end of the year fifty six to seven.
[25:31] Speaker 2: Then they're basically just practicing against air against that year's
[25:34] Speaker 2: Michigan State team. But he was incredible against Michigan that
[25:37] Speaker 2: season in a win over Michigan in just like one
[25:40] Speaker 2: of the most comically terrible quarterback game between Peyton Thorn
[25:44] Speaker 2: and Cade McNamara and fumbles and J. J. McCarthy's in
[25:47] Speaker 2: there for a minute fumbling. They win that game. He's
[25:51] Speaker 2: incredible in that game, ops out and they still beat
[25:53] Speaker 2: Pitt and run for like nothing without Kenneth Walker and
[25:58] Speaker 2: still beat Pitt. And that's you know, Kenny Pickett, Jordan
[26:01] Speaker 2: Addison pit team, and Jordan Adison leaves the following spring
[26:04] Speaker 2: to USC. But I don't know how much money of
[26:08] Speaker 2: that reported ninety five million dollar contract, Mel Tucker was
[26:11] Speaker 2: able to take home. Most of that is because of
[26:14] Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker and what he was able to do that
[26:16] Speaker 2: season for the Spartans. An incredible talent in college and
[26:20] Speaker 2: just I watched back some of the Wake Forest clips
[26:22] Speaker 2: and just like, oh my god, how could you do
[26:24] Speaker 2: this to him?
[26:26] Speaker 1: But he was awesome. He was just plain old awesome.
[26:29] Speaker 1: I remembered him in college. He was incredible. He was
[26:32] Speaker 1: such a such a talent and such a revelation for
[26:36] Speaker 1: Michigan State coming up from Wake Forest it's.
[26:38] Speaker 2: Pretty Yes, Seattle is starting not one, but two North
[26:42] Speaker 2: Dakota State Bison on the inside of their offensive line,
[26:46] Speaker 2: Jalen Sundell and Greysabel. Sundell was undrafted, Zabel was a
[26:50] Speaker 2: high pick for the Seahawks at left guard.
[26:54] Speaker 1: And is here a rookie? Isabel? Gray'sabel, I believe is
[26:58] Speaker 1: a rookie. Yes, he's here.
[27:00] Speaker 2: He's twenty three years old, he's got a good mustache,
[27:04] Speaker 2: he's six six, everything you want, ty, And yeah, there
[27:08] Speaker 2: were a Jalen Sundell's from his high school. The name
[27:11] Speaker 2: of his high school mascot in Maryville, Missouri was the
[27:15] Speaker 2: spoof Hounds. Don't know what that is, poof hounds. Okay,
[27:19] Speaker 2: the spoof Hounds of Maryville.
[27:21] Speaker 1: Moe so.
[27:23] Speaker 2: And he got offers, And we've seen a couple of
[27:25] Speaker 2: North Dakota State dudes get offers to play higher level football,
[27:29] Speaker 2: but these guys stuck around North Dakota State. Sundell won
[27:32] Speaker 2: three national championships. Gray is able only won two. Jalen
[27:38] Speaker 2: Sundell's little sister is a professional basketball player as well.
[27:42] Speaker 2: Elsewhere on the Seahawks. A. J. Barner wasn't a huge
[27:45] Speaker 2: name in college. He was Michigan's second quartern or second
[27:48] Speaker 2: tight end, AJ Barner after transferring in from Indiana, but
[27:51] Speaker 2: with just wreck dudes as a blocking tight end. So
[27:54] Speaker 2: Jim Harbaugh was deeply in love with him.
[27:58] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[27:59] Speaker 2: On defense, there's a lot of names we're gonna remember.
[28:02] Speaker 2: DeMarcus Lawrence was awesome for Boise State. Didn't have the
[28:06] Speaker 2: grades to get in to an FBS school out of
[28:10] Speaker 2: high school and so went the Juco route and then
[28:12] Speaker 2: was just an absolute murdering machine for Boise Byron Murphy
[28:16] Speaker 2: was a Baylor commit for a while and then absolutely
[28:19] Speaker 2: dominated at Texas. Scored a touchdown both rushing and receiving
[28:23] Speaker 2: as a defensive tackle. So I appreciate that Leonard Williams
[28:28] Speaker 2: was too big to play Pop Warner football to the surprise,
[28:35] Speaker 2: you know, I don't. I don't have the opportunity to
[28:37] Speaker 2: tell people stories like that, Like, yeah, I would have
[28:39] Speaker 2: played Pop Warner, but I was too large. The limit
[28:43] Speaker 2: was one hundred and eighty pounds and he weighed in
[28:44] Speaker 2: at a clean two bills. So Leonard Williams was How
[28:48] Speaker 2: old is he? How old is this younger than you think?
[28:52] Speaker 1: You know?
[28:53] Speaker 2: Ten years old, eleven years old two hundred pounds, yeah clean,
[28:56] Speaker 2: two bills, Yeah it was. He's from the West Coast originally,
[29:01] Speaker 2: but played high school football in Florida at Oorjeran fell
[29:04] Speaker 2: absolutely head over heels for him, and he was like, yeah,
[29:07] Speaker 2: I'm a defensive end. I'm not a defensive tackle. And
[29:09] Speaker 2: then as a freshman, I mean he played different spots
[29:11] Speaker 2: at the defensive line. They're just like, you can play
[29:13] Speaker 2: whatever you want, and he just went in and dominated
[29:15] Speaker 2: immediately at USC was awesome and has been a very
[29:19] Speaker 2: good NFL player. Uchennan Wosu also USC. He's always funny
[29:25] Speaker 2: when somebody is in like a star edge in college
[29:28] Speaker 2: and they come in as a safety. He ran hot
[29:32] Speaker 2: like all of us at times.
[29:33] Speaker 1: Tie sure.
[29:34] Speaker 2: He was sent home from Holiday Bowl practices for getting
[29:37] Speaker 2: in a fight. Didn't enroll that spring at USC. Had
[29:41] Speaker 2: a change of heart, sort of credits Clay Helton for
[29:44] Speaker 2: getting his head on straight. And I think he played
[29:47] Speaker 2: high school college. He was drafted by the Chargers, so
[29:49] Speaker 2: he was all LA all the time.
[29:51] Speaker 1: Right.
[29:51] Speaker 2: He's now with the Seahawks. But a great story and
[29:56] Speaker 2: just a wrecking ball in college. Again in a downtime
[30:00] Speaker 2: for USC. He was absolutely a bright spot. Drake Thomas,
[30:04] Speaker 2: the weak sidelinebacker for the Seahawks, was just a tackling
[30:06] Speaker 2: machine with a great head of hair for NC State,
[30:09] Speaker 2: had big time offers.
[30:11] Speaker 1: The head of hair, yeah yeah, and.
[30:13] Speaker 2: Was just he was like he's from North Carolina, went
[30:16] Speaker 2: to n C State and was like just an all
[30:19] Speaker 2: time tackling machine for NC State. Devin Witherspoon, I think
[30:24] Speaker 2: probably weighed less than you did in high school. Devin
[30:30] Speaker 2: Witherspoon only played high school football because he promised his
[30:33] Speaker 2: mom he would give it a shot. Weighed nothing, wasn't
[30:37] Speaker 2: academically eligible until he enrolled at junior college, got his
[30:41] Speaker 2: SAT scores. Lovey Smith was his only big offer and
[30:45] Speaker 2: went to Illinois. Played basically immediately and by the time
[30:49] Speaker 2: he played all four years, gained like twenty five pounds.
[30:52] Speaker 2: Talked about he was like, if I skipped a meal,
[30:54] Speaker 2: I would lose three pounds. So he was just constantly
[30:57] Speaker 2: eating at Illinois, locking dudes down and eating food. That's
[31:00] Speaker 2: a pretty good life and was selected in the top ten.
[31:04] Speaker 1: Number five overall pick in twenty twenty three, was the
[31:07] Speaker 1: number five overall pick. It's just a great by the way,
[31:10] Speaker 1: that is a crazy story to get to be a
[31:13] Speaker 1: top five pick. Yes, that is an absolutely mind blowing thing. Yeah,
[31:19] Speaker 1: I think he go ahead.
[31:20] Speaker 2: I was gonna say he came into college like freshman year,
[31:22] Speaker 2: he was like one hundred and forty eight pounds and
[31:24] Speaker 2: people are like, what are you.
[31:25] Speaker 1: Here to do?
[31:26] Speaker 2: Exactly as he was putting his uniform on. But yes,
[31:30] Speaker 2: to go from he was, I'm clearly a monster athlete.
[31:34] Speaker 2: He was a very good basketball player in high school,
[31:36] Speaker 2: but yeah, didn't have offers, both because of academics and
[31:40] Speaker 2: like didn't play until his junior year of high school.
[31:44] Speaker 2: Julian Love, I'm sure you can speak to Yeah, he's
[31:47] Speaker 2: from the Chicagoland area. Was just terrific at Notre Dame.
[31:52] Speaker 2: Was one of the more dependable players in the nation
[31:54] Speaker 2: at Notre Dame in that secondary I think he was
[31:56] Speaker 2: drafted by the Giants.
[31:57] Speaker 1: Yep.
[31:57] Speaker 2: But I'm not going to say he was boring. But
[31:59] Speaker 2: he he was just like excellent, got a bunch of
[32:01] Speaker 2: big ten offers, and was an absolute rock for Notre Dame.
[32:05] Speaker 1: Yep, that's basically it.
[32:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, Kobe Bryant had basically no big offers and was
[32:12] Speaker 2: named after Kobe Bryant. Was great for Cincinnati, was I
[32:16] Speaker 2: believe a corner in college plays safety for the Seahawks,
[32:20] Speaker 2: but Sauce Gardner gets more of the attention.
[32:22] Speaker 1: But Kobe Bryant was really good. I mean, that's it
[32:25] Speaker 1: was Sauce Gardner. Was Kobe Bryant on that team that
[32:27] Speaker 1: went to the playoffs.
[32:28] Speaker 2: When you are Cincinnati and not playing at a major conference,
[32:32] Speaker 2: but have NFL corners clear NFL corners, that's different.
[32:36] Speaker 1: That's unique.
[32:37] Speaker 2: That's you know, Luke Fickle and Marcus Freeman and the
[32:40] Speaker 2: defensive staff for Cincinnati, but has come through in a
[32:43] Speaker 2: big way for the Seahawks. Tariq or Riek Wollen Apparently
[32:48] Speaker 2: Seahawks fans have a very mixed relationship with him. He's
[32:51] Speaker 2: gotten three taunting calls this season, including one against the
[32:55] Speaker 2: Rams that he taunted after getting off the field on
[32:58] Speaker 2: a third down and then the Rams got a first
[33:00] Speaker 2: down and immediately threw a touchdown over his head. Six'
[33:04] Speaker 2: five corner at utsa and exhibited one of the absolute
[33:08] Speaker 2: best qualities you can have for anybody in the, secondary
[33:12] Speaker 2: and that is both an ability to diagnose and execute
[33:17] Speaker 2: like a missile on a screenplay like if.
[33:20] Speaker 1: YOU'RE i love those. Guys those are the best guys
[33:23] Speaker 1: to have on your. Defense and he's this, tall lean.
[33:25] Speaker 1: Dude he's six.' five you can just sort of stick
[33:28] Speaker 1: his hand in and break up. A pass if you
[33:31] Speaker 1: have somebody who is that sort of diagnostic wizard but
[33:36] Speaker 1: can also take a perfect angle and blow, it up
[33:39] Speaker 1: you're talking about a, top three aesthetically pleasing. FOOTBALL play i,
[33:44] Speaker 1: would argue RIGHT the dB from out of nowhere blowing
[33:48] Speaker 1: up a Play At. Kyle hilton there's just you either
[33:52] Speaker 1: have it or.
[33:52] Speaker 2: You don't and this dude in college and he's, you
[33:56] Speaker 2: know tall lean dude has. That, Ability finally Emon Worry
[34:01] Speaker 2: south Carolina safety apparently he's crazy versatile For, the seahawks
[34:04] Speaker 2: allows them to play a bunch of different ways and
[34:06] Speaker 2: can make a bunch of. Different plays another one of.
[34:08] Speaker 2: Those guys he's Local To. South Carolina south carolina was his.
[34:11] Speaker 2: Only offer had a bunch of. Great quotes he is a.
[34:13] Speaker 2: Great talker he, was like We're legit hunters is one
[34:17] Speaker 2: of the quotes that he had in college about the
[34:19] Speaker 2: H The south. Carolina secondary so he. Was TERRIFIC and i,
[34:24] Speaker 2: don't know there's just a bunch of likable stories and
[34:26] Speaker 2: likable dudes On the. Seattle team and the ONLY thing
[34:30] Speaker 2: i really haven't Liked was mike McDonald coming out, and,

[35:34] Speaker 2: In On, christian ZALEZ but i can Start With.
[35:36] Speaker 1: Mike. RABEL please i went BACK and i was poking
[35:41] Speaker 1: and Prodding at vrabel's college Career At. OHIO state a
[35:45] Speaker 1: incredible Talent At. Ohio state he's part Of The Ohio
[35:49] Speaker 1: State athletics Hall, of fame was inducted back in. Twenty
[35:52] Speaker 1: twelve if you go back and look up old photos
[35:57] Speaker 1: of his playing days in the, mid nineties The Old,
[35:59] Speaker 1: silver bowl its Defense For. OHIO state i sent you
[36:04] Speaker 1: a picture of the shoulder pads that these guys were
[36:07] Speaker 1: wearing back in the. Mid nineties he. Is little if
[36:10] Speaker 1: you took, a shadow if you took a picture of
[36:13] Speaker 1: a Shadow Of, mike rabel it would literally look like
[36:18] Speaker 1: an industrial. Grade, freezer yeah it's a. Perfect square part
[36:24] Speaker 1: of WHY the nfl outlawed those style shoulder pads was
[36:28] Speaker 1: because they were just they almost offered too. Much paddy
[36:32] Speaker 1: they all Looked like bebop And. ROCK steady, i mean.
[36:34] Speaker 1: Really ridiculous he is literally the shape of an industrial. Grade,
[36:38] Speaker 1: freezer Yeah But mike rabel was a Very Accomplished Ohio.
[36:42] Speaker 1: State buckeye set the record for most tackles for loss
[36:45] Speaker 1: in the season and over a career set the record
[36:48] Speaker 1: for most sacks in. A Career At. Ohio state he
[36:52] Speaker 1: was a Two Time Big Ten defensive lineman Of, the
[36:54] Speaker 1: year Three Time All big. Ten selection was drafted in
[36:58] Speaker 1: the third round by The steel he played for four
[37:02] Speaker 1: seasons With the steelers before signing on With the pats
[37:06] Speaker 1: in two thousand. And one went on to Win Three. Super,
[37:08] Speaker 1: bowls now obviously he is back coaching For. The patriots
[37:12] Speaker 1: he would be the first coach to Win A super
[37:16] Speaker 1: bowl as a player and as a coach for the,
[37:19] Speaker 1: same team which is kind of a Crazy. Stat, yeah
[37:24] Speaker 1: also note You Mentioned luke. Fickle earlier really good Friends With.
[37:29] Speaker 1: Luke fickle used to Live With luke fickle when they
[37:32] Speaker 1: were teammates Back At. Ohio state was Hosted By luke
[37:36] Speaker 1: fickele on his official Visit To ohio state back in nineteen,
[37:39] Speaker 1: ninety two and they apparently had a Thing For. RICK
[37:44] Speaker 1: flair i found him telling. This story this is back
[37:48] Speaker 1: when he was a coach For. The, titans yeah they
[37:52] Speaker 1: were apparently coming back from the bars late, one night Him,
[37:54] Speaker 1: and fickle and They Saw, rick flair who they Thought Was,
[37:58] Speaker 1: ric flair across. The street HE had i guess a
[38:03] Speaker 1: gal on either arm and was walking wearing a silk
[38:07] Speaker 1: Shirt that rabel described unbuttoned down to, mid Chest and
[38:13] Speaker 1: fickle just wanted to get in. The cab rabel was
[38:17] Speaker 1: not content to leave well enough alone needed to confirm
[38:20] Speaker 1: that It Was. RIC flair i believe may have yelled
[38:23] Speaker 1: out something, like whoo you know the sort of, trademark
[38:27] Speaker 1: Yell and flair answered back and that Was Their. Rick,
[38:30] Speaker 1: flair sorry They Saw ric flair walking Around. Downtown columbus
[38:33] Speaker 1: but there's a lot out there about how these two.
[38:36] Speaker 1: Were competitive wait Was It?
[38:38] Speaker 2: Rick flair It Was. Ric flair, oh okay because you
[38:40] Speaker 2: said who they Thought Was? Rick flair It Was.
[38:42] Speaker 1: Ric, flair, no, no It was, They yelled i'm not
[38:45] Speaker 1: going to. Do it the dogs are down, here, Though
[38:46] Speaker 1: okay but they yelled out the trademark battle Cry For,
[38:51] Speaker 1: rick flair, thank you and he did respond It Was.
[38:54] Speaker 1: Ric flair but a lots out there about. Their friendship
[38:58] Speaker 1: there was actually a piece recent published just a few
[39:01] Speaker 1: days Ago In The Athletic luke fickle talking about his
[39:05] Speaker 1: Relationship With mike rabel and how he always knew he
[39:09] Speaker 1: would go on to be a. Great coach he's a leader.
[39:11] Speaker 1: Of man all the things that you've heard, by now
[39:12] Speaker 1: but the thing that comes up a lot when you
[39:15] Speaker 1: Read about rabel is his willingness to tell it the way,
[39:19] Speaker 1: it is and you can imagine how as a football
[39:23] Speaker 1: coach that goes a. Long way he's not out there to.
[39:27] Speaker 1: Appease people he's not out there to tell people what
[39:30] Speaker 1: they want. To hear he's. Very direct he tells people
[39:33] Speaker 1: what they need. To hear and so that maybe above,
[39:36] Speaker 1: all else Is Why new england is a very, disciplined
[39:38] Speaker 1: Team Why new england has seen an incredible. Turnaround story
[39:42] Speaker 1: they're fourteen. AND three i believe they lost thirteen or
[39:45] Speaker 1: fourteen games a. Year ago so this is definitely a
[39:49] Speaker 1: story that's going to be written deep into history Books
[39:52] Speaker 1: For New england patriots fans and REALLY the nfl as.
[39:55] Speaker 1: A whole this turnaround story has been due in no
[39:58] Speaker 1: small part to the the mentality in the Culture that
[40:01] Speaker 1: frabel has put into place in very. Short order this
[40:04] Speaker 1: is only his first year coaching, this team so thus
[40:08] Speaker 1: far it looks like the coaching hire of Last Offseason.
[40:12] Speaker 1: Newland Patriots Bringing mike rabel back home was a very.
[40:14] Speaker 1: Big deal.
[40:16] Speaker 2: Full circle by, The Way rick flair briefly was thinking
[40:20] Speaker 2: about playing football At the University, of michigan so Him,
[40:23] Speaker 2: in columbus the Connection to Raybel and mike McDonald's Connection
[40:28] Speaker 2: to michigan college football is.
[40:30] Speaker 1: Never. Over continue Quarterback Is, drake may second year player OUT.
[40:37] Speaker 1: Of Unc the mays are Royalty At. North carolina his
[40:43] Speaker 1: dad played quarterback there his. Three brothers his Older brother
[40:46] Speaker 1: luke played basketball hit a game winning shot with point
[40:50] Speaker 1: three seconds left back in twenty seventeen To beat kentucky
[40:53] Speaker 1: In the. ELITE eight i actually remember THAT because I
[40:56] Speaker 1: think I Had north carolina in one Of My March madness. Survivor,
[41:00] Speaker 1: pools OKAY so i was screaming AT the tv with.
[41:02] Speaker 1: That one one of his, Older brothers bo walked onto the.
[41:06] Speaker 1: Basketball team and he's got, Another, brother cole who pitched
[41:09] Speaker 1: for the Twenty Seventeen, florida gators the baseball team which
[41:13] Speaker 1: also won a. National championship so suffice to say comes
[41:17] Speaker 1: from a family. Of athletes clearly he has risen to
[41:21] Speaker 1: a completely different stratosphere relative to, his family but all
[41:25] Speaker 1: of them are very. Very talented drake himself with a
[41:28] Speaker 1: very talented basketball player and was a recruit as a,
[41:32] Speaker 1: basketball player but obviously chose to go, with football and
[41:36] Speaker 1: that has proven to be a rather. Wise choice he
[41:40] Speaker 1: Committed To, Nick, Saban right i'm glad now you cut, You. Off, pond, no, no,
[41:44] Speaker 1: No listen we've been doing the show long enough that
[41:46] Speaker 1: you Know where i'm, going next and this Is where i'm. Going, at, sorry, Sorry,
[41:49] Speaker 1: sorry no. It's cool twenty four to seven had him
[41:52] Speaker 1: as a five. Star recruit the composites had him at
[41:55] Speaker 1: about a. Four star he was graded as the ninth
[41:58] Speaker 1: best quarterback in the class of two. Twenty one the
[42:02] Speaker 1: Comp Was, sam BRADFORD which i don't know if that's
[42:05] Speaker 1: a fair comp, or not but that was. The Comp
[42:07] Speaker 1: And sam bradford obviously is a very good college player
[42:09] Speaker 1: and number one overall pick in his. Own, right yeah
[42:12] Speaker 1: can you talk through the other quarterbacks that you can
[42:16] Speaker 1: name from that class of twenty, twenty one because there
[42:18] Speaker 1: are some names. On here i'll give you a hint
[42:21] Speaker 1: and say That quinn ewers was unanimously the, number one
[42:24] Speaker 1: and he reclassified, and Reclassified But quinn ewers was overwhelmingly
[42:30] Speaker 1: the number one quarterback in that class twenty. TWENTY one
[42:34] Speaker 1: i get all my years. MIXED up, I know i

[44:27] Speaker 1: Garcia jake garcia has Been, Around, Miami. Missouri. Michigan. Yeah
[44:33] Speaker 1: uh drake may, was ninth and then to round out the,
[44:36] Speaker 1: top fifteen just BECAUSE he's, i mean you look at
[44:38] Speaker 1: these old names and it brings back so. Many memories
[44:41] Speaker 1: Number Ten Jackson, dart sure, Number Eleven, TYLER Buckner, Usc,
[44:46] Speaker 1: JACKSON Dart, Usc, Jackson Dart, Tyler Buckner Notre dame. Lacrosse,
[44:53] Speaker 1: contributor YEAH just i don't want to talk About, tout,
[44:56] Speaker 1: alabama Right So Notre. Dame alabama Back To, Notre Dame Notre. Dame,
[44:59] Speaker 1: lacrosse yeah and then fumbled the snap that costs them
[45:03] Speaker 1: the Game AGAINST texas a and m we won't. Go there.
[45:04] Speaker 1: It's fine number Twelve Was Miller. Moss sure number Thirteen Was.
[45:09] Speaker 1: Jalen milroe Number fourteen Garrett, Nus meyer Number Fifteen. Preston
[45:15] Speaker 1: stone this was.
[45:16] Speaker 2: All contributors basically Other. Than garcia this was an electric
[45:22] Speaker 2: quarterback class.
[45:23] Speaker 1: In hindsight but Back To. Drake, may okay there were
[45:29] Speaker 1: a lot of Highlights Of drake may in his time
[45:32] Speaker 1: As A north. Carolina quarterback the one that comes, to
[45:34] Speaker 1: mind and you may recall this because wasn't all that.
[45:36] Speaker 1: Long agoes back in twenty, twenty three there was a
[45:39] Speaker 1: Game Against pitt they're down in the, red zone he's completely.
[45:42] Speaker 1: Wrapped up he puts the ball in his left hand
[45:45] Speaker 1: because he spots a receiver open in the. End zone
[45:48] Speaker 1: throws what amounts to an end over end wounded duck
[45:51] Speaker 1: to a wide open receiver lefty to score, the touchdown
[45:55] Speaker 1: and it was one of those deals where he did
[45:57] Speaker 1: it and then he looks at his left, hand like
[45:58] Speaker 1: HOW did i just? Do that like a he didn't
[46:00] Speaker 1: even know that he could, do that but that one comes.
[46:03] Speaker 1: To mind there was also a moment where he got in.
[46:05] Speaker 1: Hot Water drake may is like the most non, controversial
[46:09] Speaker 1: player but there was a moment in twenty twenty two
[46:14] Speaker 1: where rivalry upcoming About the it was a game AGAINST
[46:20] Speaker 1: N c state and he makes a comment saying that
[46:24] Speaker 1: people who Go to state can't Get into carolina and
[46:27] Speaker 1: it was a. Big deal it was a. Big deal
[46:29] Speaker 1: that shows you how non controversy he. Actually is that
[46:31] Speaker 1: that would get a rise out, of anybody but eventually
[46:34] Speaker 1: apologized it was a. Whole thing and, you know obviously
[46:37] Speaker 1: now he was a third. Overall pick he's playing at
[46:41] Speaker 1: points this season was showing signs of BEING an mvp.
[46:44] Speaker 1: Caliber quarterback may get there at, some point, But Yeah
[46:48] Speaker 1: drake may Ends.
[46:49] Speaker 2: Up jaden daniels, between Them Between caleb Williams And, drake
[46:52] Speaker 2: may is that what?
[46:52] Speaker 1: IT was? I believe, so, yes, okay yeah and everybody
[46:57] Speaker 1: Including my giants tried to trade up to, get him,
[47:00] Speaker 1: but they, you know everybody Knew That drake may was
[47:04] Speaker 1: going to be. Something Special new england ends up, with
[47:07] Speaker 1: them and now they're back In The.
[47:08] Speaker 2: Super BOWL what i also remember is both It Was
[47:12] Speaker 2: caleb Williams And, drake may like that was the conversation for,
[47:14] Speaker 2: a While and Jade and daniels obviously peaked and Winning
[47:16] Speaker 2: the heisman and everything. LIKE that i remember seeing Guys
[47:19] Speaker 2: Like nate tice and draft analysts, saying like we're Pretty
[47:22] Speaker 2: Sure drake may. Is awesome we're Pretty Sure caleb williams.
[47:26] Speaker 2: Is awesome but they're playing behind such garbage offensive lines,
[47:31] Speaker 2: exactly right that it's nearly impossible to get a full
[47:34] Speaker 2: sense of what they could do if they had time
[47:37] Speaker 2: to go. Through progressions, and Obviously Like, caleb williams, you
[47:39] Speaker 2: know used his legs to buy time and still, does
[47:42] Speaker 2: Obviously And drake may is very athletic. As well but
[47:45] Speaker 2: there was that like idea, of like it'd be really
[47:48] Speaker 2: nice if they could step into a pocket and go,
[47:50] Speaker 2: through progressions but their offensive lines are so horrid that.
[47:54] Speaker 1: They, can't yeah and and actually that will be an
[47:56] Speaker 1: interesting thing to follow in. This, game notably Rookie Tackle
[48:01] Speaker 1: will campbell has not had a good, postseason no AND
[48:04] Speaker 1: his pff grades have been extremely low thus far through
[48:08] Speaker 1: this playoff run here For. The patriots it'll be interesting
[48:10] Speaker 1: to see how Or if seattle can take advantage. Of
[48:14] Speaker 1: that and what's weird to try to See Me brank
[48:16] Speaker 1: kelly is such a legendary offensive line NAME in, lsu,
[48:19] Speaker 1: circles RIGHT that lsu offensive. Line development to have that
[48:24] Speaker 1: many guys off OF that lsu line get drafted but
[48:27] Speaker 1: never really play that, well together at least not as
[48:29] Speaker 1: a run, blocking unit is definitely going to be something
[48:32] Speaker 1: that we're going to need to look back on On
[48:34] Speaker 1: The brian kelly Regime In. Baton rouge look a BUNCH
[48:36] Speaker 1: of i think a couple of the dudes hit the
[48:38] Speaker 1: portal and like we're in. High demand that people are
[48:42] Speaker 1: just CONVINCED that lsu was not a place to develop
[48:45] Speaker 1: as an offensive, line now but we can we can,
[48:46] Speaker 1: change them. All right some other interesting Factoids About new
[48:50] Speaker 1: england players back. In, College Please trey henderson wasn't all that,
[48:55] Speaker 1: Long ago Travian and henderson was Playing At. Ohio, State
[48:58] Speaker 1: Awesome travon henderson had a really good. Rookie Year. Traveon
[49:04] Speaker 1: henderson one of the REASONS that i think we. LIKED
[49:06] Speaker 1: him i remember Talking To nate tice about this before the,
[49:09] Speaker 1: last draft but just sort of did. Everything well was
[49:12] Speaker 1: there really a, stute player was good as a pass,
[49:16] Speaker 1: Blocker right you could count on him to just do the.
[49:19] Speaker 1: Right thing there were tells that that he was going
[49:22] Speaker 1: to be this player dating back to. High school obviously
[49:24] Speaker 1: he was a five star coming Out, of virginia but
[49:27] Speaker 1: was also A straight, a student so he's just a student.
[49:30] Speaker 1: Of Whatever And trey henderson had a really good campaign,
[49:33] Speaker 1: this year, but again signs of it were back in
[49:37] Speaker 1: his freshman Year At. Ohio state in his, third Game
[49:41] Speaker 1: Broke archie griffin's freshman single game rushing record with two
[49:44] Speaker 1: hundred and seventy seven yards on twenty four carries and.
[49:47] Speaker 1: Three touchdowns over the span of, his career he made, the,
[49:51] Speaker 1: first second And Third All big ten teams in his
[49:54] Speaker 1: Time At. Ohio state we, liked, him obviously they like him.
[49:58] Speaker 1: A Lot trey henders had a really good campaign Next To,
[50:02] Speaker 1: ramandre STEVENSON who i could talk a little, bit About
[50:05] Speaker 1: but i've got a bunch Here that i'm going to get, into.
[50:07] Speaker 2: First by, the way two absolute backbreaking touchdowns to finish
[50:11] Speaker 2: out his Career For. Ohio state if, you remember right
[50:13] Speaker 2: before the Half against texas on the Screenplay where texas,
[50:16] Speaker 2: was like let's just get to the half and figure
[50:18] Speaker 2: things out in the, second half And Great chip Kelly
[50:21] Speaker 2: Called trey henderson's scream goes for like seventy yards for.
[50:24] Speaker 2: A touchdown also had A killer, i think just a
[50:28] Speaker 2: run around the Edge against oregon that just was basically
[50:32] Speaker 2: the nail in the coffin when they Throttled the ducks
[50:34] Speaker 2: In The. Rose Bowl, Stefan diggs, Oh, man yeah.
[50:39] Speaker 1: There's been a lot going On With. Stefan diggs i'm
[50:42] Speaker 1: not going to ACT like i know about all. Of
[50:43] Speaker 1: it i'm going to Talk About steffan diggs as a
[50:46] Speaker 1: college player AND recent nfl. Track record he had an
[50:51] Speaker 1: act of twenty. Twenty, five yes that's he had a
[50:54] Speaker 1: very art. Twenty, five yeah artful way to, PUT it. I,
[50:58] Speaker 1: think yeah there are a couple things that jumped to
[51:01] Speaker 1: MIND when i Think Of. Stefan Diggs stefan diggs was
[51:05] Speaker 1: the prize Recruit By randy etzel back In his. Maryland
[51:09] Speaker 1: days if, you recall it was not Because Of. RANDY
[51:12] Speaker 1: etzel i think that is fairly. Well documented at. This
[51:15] Speaker 1: Point steffon diggs just wanted to stay close. To home
[51:17] Speaker 1: that was the most important thing, to him which is How,
[51:18] Speaker 1: From Maryland how maryland kind of gets the one big recruit.
[51:21] Speaker 1: Every year you just want to stay close. To. HOME
[51:24] Speaker 1: yeah i remember in his very first season taking a
[51:32] Speaker 1: fake knee in the end Zone. Against virginia this is
[51:36] Speaker 1: back in. Twenty twelve took a fake knee in the
[51:40] Speaker 1: end zone then ran for one hundred yard kickoff return for.
[51:44] Speaker 1: A touchdown i. Remember that the other THING that i
[51:48] Speaker 1: Remember For, stefan diggs who's very productive in three years As,
[51:51] Speaker 1: a terrapin left after, three years ended up being a.
[51:54] Speaker 1: Draft pick, you know was Played for buffalo for, a
[51:56] Speaker 1: while played For the texans for, a while now was
[51:57] Speaker 1: Playing With. New england there was also an issue in,
[52:02] Speaker 1: twenty fourteen is last year on Campus With. Penn state
[52:07] Speaker 1: do you, REMEMBER this i don't do? You, really okay
[52:10] Speaker 1: there was a controversy and he got suspended and it
[52:14] Speaker 1: was like all the way Back To, randy etzel and
[52:16] Speaker 1: there were issues across the board because there was a
[52:21] Speaker 1: moment at midfield in Advance The penn. State, game oh
[52:25] Speaker 1: this is. All. Vague, continue yeah he was One of.
[52:28] Speaker 1: Maryland's captains he and the other captains went out there
[52:32] Speaker 1: and they refused to shake Hands With penn state during the. Coin,
[52:34] Speaker 1: Toss okay and this is after there was a little
[52:38] Speaker 1: bit of a pregame SCUFFLE where I Think stefan diggs
[52:42] Speaker 1: was accused of making contact with. An, Official okay so
[52:46] Speaker 1: there was a whole bunch of stuff, going on and
[52:50] Speaker 1: that kind of gave him a little bit of a bad,
[52:52] Speaker 1: bloy Reputation which i'm not going to say has been.
[52:55] Speaker 1: Totally Refuted But stefan diggs is now playing. This Game
[52:59] Speaker 1: steffon diggs had has been not quite what he used
[53:02] Speaker 1: to be right when he first came into, the league
[53:04] Speaker 1: but has been a very productive member Of The New.
[53:06] Speaker 1: England patriots he also never really had a great quarterback
[53:09] Speaker 1: in his Time. At, maryland No What sean petty comes? To, mind,
[53:16] Speaker 1: yeah hey he there was another. GOOD receiver i just looked.
[53:18] Speaker 1: IT up i had to Remind Myself Deon. Long long
[53:21] Speaker 1: but HE. HAD. C j brown as his quarterback for
[53:24] Speaker 1: two YEARS and i believe for at least part of
[53:27] Speaker 1: his freshman year. Was it what was? His name the
[53:33] Speaker 1: quote The. It sean i'm, BLANKING here i should. Remember
[53:38] Speaker 1: This sean petty a converted linebacker.
[53:43] Speaker 2: Playing, quarterback yeah that was a. Famous Thing the maryland
[53:47] Speaker 2: was now so. Many, quarterbacks yeah.
[53:49] Speaker 1: There Was, perry hillis THERE. WAS. C, j brown and
[53:53] Speaker 1: there was a cup of coffee Here With. Sean petty
[53:57] Speaker 1: but obviously he was able to and, send that become
[54:01] Speaker 1: a draft pick and now do fairly well for himself
[54:03] Speaker 1: AS an. Nfl talent has had a bunch, of injuries
[54:06] Speaker 1: right from a. Broken leg you had a lacerated kidney
[54:09] Speaker 1: at one point back in twenty fourteen, as well but
[54:13] Speaker 1: has rebounded pretty well. From that and it's not going
[54:16] Speaker 1: to be playing For The.
[54:16] Speaker 2: Super BOWL so i have A Personal stefan. Diggs story
[54:20] Speaker 2: my personal Story Was steffan DIGGS as i used to
[54:22] Speaker 2: host a game show At The Super bowl radio ROW

[54:27] Speaker 2: the name of the mobile GAME show, i hosted and
[54:29] Speaker 2: we would have a BUNCH of nfl players on who
[54:31] Speaker 2: are not playing In The, super bowl who were there

[55:07] Speaker 2: most charismatic Charming athletes i've ever, Been around and apparently
[55:15] Speaker 2: that's held true with his very busy twenty. Twenty FIVE

[55:55] Speaker 1: the STORY but i remember there was a report that
[55:59] Speaker 1: he apparently tried to pull off. That maneuver there is.
[56:03] Speaker 2: An allegation involving, hotel rooms two. DIFFERENT rooms i have
[56:07] Speaker 2: no idea if. IT'S true i have.
[56:09] Speaker 1: No confirmation we, can't know we, Don't KNOW but I just.
[56:13] Speaker 2: I'm positive stefan has talked, about it whether or not

[57:20] Speaker 1: well short of, the markers not. Even close he's, being
[57:24] Speaker 1: tackled and he just blindly flings the ball backwards over
[57:29] Speaker 1: his head Aka the. Henry heave the ball bounces perfectly
[57:36] Speaker 1: to Running Back. Alex Collins, rip yeah runs for the,

[58:08] Speaker 1: was a legendary Play For, hunter henry who's been a
[58:11] Speaker 1: very productive tight end IN.
[58:12] Speaker 2: The nfl it's sort of AND when i Say like
[58:15] Speaker 2: arkansas is the most college, football team it's those moments
[58:20] Speaker 2: and that was a crazy, shootout.
[58:21] Speaker 1: Game right it was a high.
[58:22] Speaker 2: Scoring, game yeah like it was a, desperation moment fifty
[58:25] Speaker 2: two forty five.
[58:26] Speaker 1: OR something i want, to say it was something. Like that.

[59:17] Speaker 1: MELTUCKER no i think he only Played For carl Durell
[59:20] Speaker 1: at colorado and was very good played as a freshman
[59:25] Speaker 1: and when it was very Clear that colorado was not
[59:29] Speaker 1: going to be going very far in college football after
[59:33] Speaker 1: the weirdly successful twenty, twenty campaign for, A while colorado
[59:38] Speaker 1: was kind. Of feisty he transfers after the twenty twenty,
[59:41] Speaker 1: one season his second Year. At colorado colorado fans are
[59:46] Speaker 1: apoplectic because they know he is like one of the
[59:49] Speaker 1: shining bright spots of a not great Situation. In BOULDER

[1:00:11] Speaker 1: best defensive players Of The dan lanning, ERA were, i
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: mean he's absolutely he's either that guy or is in
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: the conversation to be. That guy he was, crazy productive
[1:00:21] Speaker 1: he was a. Lockdown corner he's a, tall dude sort
[1:00:24] Speaker 1: of soft spoken and played only played one Season. At,
[1:00:27] Speaker 1: oregon UH but i think it was On all. American
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: lists i'll pack, twelve lists everything, Like that and so
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: he would have been on the First bow. Knicks Team
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: bo knicks was there for. Two, years okay So bow
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: knicks was twenty twenty two and twenty. Twenty three he
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: was on that first year's team that he didn't play
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: In The holiday Bowl Against, north carolina but. Was Great
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: if i'm screwing up, MY seasons i apologize. That was
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: if he was on.
[1:00:58] Speaker 2: The twenty twenty, Two team oregon would have ended up
[1:01:02] Speaker 2: what was It The? Holiday bowl what? It was so
[1:01:05] Speaker 2: would have been the final Game, of yeah it Was
[1:01:08] Speaker 2: The north. Carolina game so There's Your drake. May, connection
[1:01:10] Speaker 2: yeah but didn't play in, that game but was. Otherwise
[1:01:13] Speaker 2: terrific also in. The, Secondary Yeah. Marcus Jones marcus jones
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: is a. Nickel corner HE'S. Five a he's not a,
[1:01:23] Speaker 2: big guy but uh. Nickel corner Played. At houston he's
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: best known for being An all pro caliber, punt returner
[1:01:32] Speaker 2: which is part OF why i am Interested In marcus
[1:01:37] Speaker 2: jones As A super BOWL sixty mvp at sixty to one.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: Oh special teams touchdown, difference maker just saying, decent odds,
[1:01:48] Speaker 1: decent odds, not bad just to tick Below Sta von
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: diggs And Above.
[1:01:53] Speaker 2: TREY henderson i can tell you as somebody who does
[1:01:57] Speaker 2: not wager, on Football and ty was terrible wagering about football.
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: This season stop it take all this. As, entertainment yeah
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: he had a ninety four yard punt return earlier this
[1:02:13] Speaker 1: year Against the giants that took, my soul like, right away,
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: right away they were, three nothing then they were up
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: ten nothing before he. Could blink while he Was, at
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: houston he Won The Paul Horning award nation's most. Versatile
[1:02:27] Speaker 1: player he also released an ALBUM which i went back and.
[1:02:32] Speaker 1: LISTENED to i do not believe he has released, anything
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: since but he goes under the stage Name of Elliott
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: j the album Was. Titled complications there's a little Bit
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: Of kendrick lemar. In it i'm not gonna lie a, little,
[1:02:46] Speaker 1: Bit okay like if You took kendrick and pitch shifted
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: it up just just a, couple cents, You, know okay
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: it wouldn't not Sound like Elliott Or. Kendrick lamar.
[1:03:01] Speaker 2: So Can marcus jones use this as a blurb for
[1:03:04] Speaker 2: any sort of? Press clippings Ty hilden brant a little
[1:03:07] Speaker 2: Bit Of kendrick lamar.
[1:03:08] Speaker 1: TO him, i mean there is go. And listen i'll
[1:03:09] Speaker 1: send you the link noted hip Hop journalist Ty.
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: Hilden, brant yeah people don't know that about right your
[1:03:15] Speaker 2: second my last day job.
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: Past live Writing. For vibe, yeah, no yeah. THAT'S true
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: a little Bit of kendrick, in, this okay a, Little
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: Bit But marcus jones is, somebody WHO like, i say,
[1:03:28] Speaker 1: nickel back really good. Punt returner could potentially have an
[1:03:32] Speaker 1: impact on this GAME because i feel like this game
[1:03:34] Speaker 1: is going to. Be Close and i'll talk about that
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: in a. Little bit the other Thing that i'll add
[1:03:39] Speaker 1: here while we're talking about, special teams the Story Of
[1:03:43] Speaker 1: new England's Punter bryce barringer is. Very interesting he was
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: a walk On At, michigan state initially cut from the
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: team and spent the twenty nineteen season as the team's photographer.
[1:03:55] Speaker 1: And videographer he is one of Us. Dan okay he
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: rejoined the team in twenty twenty and turned into the
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: best putter in, school history holding a career average of
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: forty six yards. Per punt he's also a very. Good
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: golfer he's a plus, one handicap which is a very.
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: Good golfer now we talk about, special teams we talk about.
[1:04:20] Speaker 1: THIS game i did do a deep dive about this.
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: FOOTBALL game i think this is a really interesting mix
[1:04:30] Speaker 1: of all the different factors that YOU and i like
[1:04:32] Speaker 1: to talk about when we preview a college. FOOTBALL game
[1:04:35] Speaker 1: i Think the seahawks are the. Better team they got
[1:04:38] Speaker 1: the best player on the field right NOW In Jsn
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: jackson Smith and jigbow and he's. Basically unstoppable their ability
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: to move the ball through, THE air i think is
[1:04:47] Speaker 1: the difference in. This game AND as i, said earlier
[1:04:50] Speaker 1: my favorite Bed Is kenneth walker over twenty two and
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: a half. Receiving Yards Because new england plays a really
[1:04:57] Speaker 1: tough brand to, RUN defense i think this one's go
[1:05:00] Speaker 1: to be in the Arm Of, sam darnald who has
[1:05:01] Speaker 1: clearly been a revelation since he came over From. The
[1:05:03] Speaker 1: vikings by, The Way sam donald would be the, FIRST player,
[1:05:07] Speaker 1: i believe or at least the first quarterback to Win
[1:05:10] Speaker 1: A super bowl having played for five. Different teams so
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: damn not Winning A super bowl with, five teams but
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: The First super bowl winner two have played quarterback for five.
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: Different teams that. Makes sense also from an advanced, Stats
[1:05:24] Speaker 1: standpoint seattle is also the more. Efficient team they finished
[1:05:28] Speaker 1: with THE highest dvoa defense adjusted value over average since,
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: twenty eighteen very good. On defense my issue, is that
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: and this is something we talked about in this Most
[1:05:44] Speaker 1: Recent national championship Game between Miami. And indiana miami had,
[1:05:49] Speaker 1: the flash there was a lot. Of flash indiana was.
[1:05:52] Speaker 1: More disciplined indiana didn't. Beat itself that ended up being
[1:05:58] Speaker 1: one of the, primary features not just to bug and
[1:06:01] Speaker 1: a big part Of why indiana rose to such heights
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: so Quickly. Under Signetty the pats are. Very disciplined they
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: do not. Beat themselves it scares me a little Bit
[1:06:14] Speaker 1: That mike rabel has been able to frame this game
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: as something of an underdog story For, the patriots who're
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: not used to being, an underdog but. They ARE and,
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: i think taken in, context here it's a team that doesn't.
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: Beat itself it's a team that likes to possess. The
[1:06:32] Speaker 1: football it's very. PHYSICAL team i think they're better on
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: defense than they get. Credit for that to me has
[1:06:37] Speaker 1: the hallmark of a really. Close game seattle brings. THE
[1:06:41] Speaker 1: flash I think seattle's got. BETTER players I think seattle's the.
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: BETTER team I think, seattle WINS but i think. IT'S
[1:06:48] Speaker 1: close i think it's twenty eight to Twenty. Four seahawks
[1:06:52] Speaker 1: Seahawks Win new. England, covers okay that's that's fine. BY
[1:06:57] Speaker 1: me i think.
[1:06:58] Speaker 2: That's fine i'm just there to eat, and enjoy hopefully a.
[1:07:02] Speaker 1: Good game did you See The jurassic. Park, commercial no
[1:07:06] Speaker 1: The only I've Seen andy samberg Do is. Hellman's.
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: Commercial dan he does Like a, mayo Commercial Parroting. NEIL
[1:07:14] Speaker 2: diamond i Think The.
[1:07:15] Speaker 1: Meal. Diamonds Yeah The jurassic, park COMMERCIAL which i think
[1:07:20] Speaker 1: Is A comcast exfinity. Branded, thing okay the Spin On
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: jurassic park that they put on in, this commercial quite
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: literally would be better than it is better than each
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: of the Last Couple jurassic. Park, movies okay it is
[1:07:37] Speaker 1: genuinely one of the. Better commercials it's a Commercial.
[1:07:40] Speaker 2: Four, comcast, yes, OKAY yes i. Saw that you send
[1:07:44] Speaker 2: Me A william. Shatner, one sorry Continue About. Jurassid Park
[1:07:47] Speaker 2: The jurassic park one is, YOU know i mean not
[1:07:50] Speaker 2: to give away too much of. The Game jurassic park's
[1:07:52] Speaker 2: been out for a, minute now but, you know like
[1:07:54] Speaker 2: the park goes to everything goes down and trying to
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: boot it, back up and that's when everything kind of
[1:07:58] Speaker 2: flies off. The handle but the spin in this commercial
[1:08:03] Speaker 2: is they would have been able to bring the pack
[1:08:05] Speaker 2: the park back up right away if They had exfinity not,
[1:08:08] Speaker 2: a sponsor and so you get to see sort of
[1:08:11] Speaker 2: like the alternate ending if everything hadn't.
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: Gone crazy it's, an awesome. Awesome, Commercial okay i'm gonna
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: look it up as soon as we. Finish recording rate sidebar.
[1:08:22] Speaker 2: Really Good jurassic park is a modern, iconic movie, Of
[1:08:26] Speaker 2: course like sometimes these movies that are just sort of
[1:08:30] Speaker 2: action oriented and, you know in sci fi, or whatever
[1:08:34] Speaker 2: are not taking Serious Like jurassic park of the past.
[1:08:39] Speaker 1: Forty years. IT'S incredible I think i think it's a piece.
[1:08:43] Speaker 2: Of cinema it's, so good it's. IT'S remarkable i think.
[1:08:46] Speaker 2: It's incredible, all right why don't we leave? It there
[1:08:51] Speaker 2: you got any plans you?
[1:08:53] Speaker 1: Do anything For The.
[1:08:53] Speaker 2: Super bowl we're going over to. Some friends i'm gonna
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: make a Couple of. DETROIT pizzas I think i'm gonna
[1:08:57] Speaker 2: Use a detroit pizza crust and it sort of in,
[1:09:01] Speaker 2: half lengthwise or, you know bisect it and turn that
[1:09:06] Speaker 2: into like A, giant okay is that The word i'm?
[1:09:08] Speaker 2: LOOKING for i, probably NOT but i know what. You
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: Mean so i'm not. Cutting down i'm, cutting, across right
[1:09:14] Speaker 2: you're kind of.
[1:09:15] Speaker 1: Little, squares, yeah.
[1:09:16] Speaker 2: No no, No no i'm cutting through the uh the uh what's?
[1:09:22] Speaker 2: It called the face of the sandwich of. The bread
[1:09:24] Speaker 2: i'm not cutting down to, chop, it Okay because, i'm creating,
[1:09:28] Speaker 2: you know like how you would cut like a piece
[1:09:29] Speaker 2: of like muffleletta bread and you make a giant sandwich
[1:09:31] Speaker 2: and you, Cut That and i'm doing that with the
[1:09:33] Speaker 2: basically turning into. A facaca i'm gonna make Like an
[1:09:36] Speaker 2: italian facaca sandwich to, cut up and maybe some cookies
[1:09:41] Speaker 2: or something. Like that but just going over to friend's house,
[1:09:43] Speaker 2: and uh we'll watch at least the first half or
[1:09:46] Speaker 2: so there because We're on we're In, The midwest so
[1:09:49] Speaker 2: the game starts at, what time like five forty?
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: Five, six yeah the kickoff time at least listed. Kickoff
[1:09:55] Speaker 1: time it won't kick off at Six, thirty eastern but
