## Transcript

[0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome to the solid verbal hull.
[0:05] Speaker 2: That for me, I'm a man, I'm forty.
[0:08] Speaker 1: I've heard so many players say, well, I want to
[0:10] Speaker 1: be happy. You want to be happy for day Ato State?
[0:13] Speaker 3: Is that?
[0:13] Speaker 4: Whoo whoo?
[0:14] Speaker 5: And no, Dan and tie.
[0:18] Speaker 4: Dan Rubinstein, Congratulations, my good friend. We have completed our
[0:24] Speaker 4: eighteenth regular season as a college football show. Not to
[0:29] Speaker 4: make us all feel old here, but it's been a
[0:31] Speaker 4: wild ride the whole way through. But certainly with respect
[0:36] Speaker 4: to the twenty twenty five college football season, Dan, we
[0:38] Speaker 4: have results to discuss. We have much to discuss here.
[0:42] Speaker 4: My rivalry week has come to a conclusion, sir, welcome back.
[0:46] Speaker 1: How are you good? I mean there's still what Stanford
[0:49] Speaker 1: Notre Dame at time of recording. Are there any other
[0:51] Speaker 1: active games? I saw Cal got by SMU with obviously
[0:55] Speaker 1: huge acc implications late in the evening. Is there anything
[0:59] Speaker 1: else ongoing? And I'm not talking about with playoff implications.
[1:02] Speaker 1: I'm not talking about conference implications. I'm talking about pure
[1:05] Speaker 1: emotional implications going into this long, cold off season.
[1:09] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we've got UNLV still in progress, We've
[1:13] Speaker 4: got Fresno State and Wyoming still in progress. But by
[1:16] Speaker 4: and large, we are winding down here as we come
[1:19] Speaker 4: on the airwaves tonight, okay, midnight. We did a live
[1:23] Speaker 4: stream on Friday night during Texas Texas A and M,
[1:25] Speaker 4: which of course we will discuss on today's reaction stream.
[1:30] Speaker 4: We did a live stream earlier today looking at the
[1:32] Speaker 4: Ohio State Michigan game, Ohio State finally getting over the
[1:36] Speaker 4: hump snap in their four game losing streak. Of course
[1:39] Speaker 4: we will talk about that game as well. We have
[1:42] Speaker 4: much to discuss here as we have conference championship matchups
[1:45] Speaker 4: that are now officially or almost officially said.
[1:49] Speaker 5: I will get to that as well.
[1:51] Speaker 4: We also have a bunch of dood alerts and we're
[1:54] Speaker 4: going to do our normal thing here running through all
[1:56] Speaker 4: of the action that was Dan Rubinstein. I thought as
[2:02] Speaker 4: maybe a bit of a treat, and especially since I
[2:04] Speaker 4: teased it out on the last episode, that this could
[2:08] Speaker 4: potentially be the final reverb segment. I thought maybe we
[2:12] Speaker 4: could do something like we used to back in the day. Okay,
[2:15] Speaker 4: I used to use the reverbs as sort of a
[2:18] Speaker 4: moose boush yeah, a launching point, an appetizer, and icebreaker.
[2:24] Speaker 5: So if this is the end for the reverbs, I
[2:26] Speaker 5: don't know.
[2:27] Speaker 4: We can discuss that in the off season, but it
[2:29] Speaker 4: is the end for this regular season. Let's hear from
[2:32] Speaker 4: the verbalerhood. Let's get this thing started off on the
[2:35] Speaker 4: right foot. We'll pick it up on the flip side.
[2:37] Speaker 4: Here are your rivalry week reverbs.
[2:39] Speaker 6: Hey, Dan and Zai, this is Tommy calling in from
[2:42] Speaker 6: Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and I just wanted to give
[2:44] Speaker 6: the verbalers an update on someone who called in earlier
[2:48] Speaker 6: in the season. I just proposed to my girlfriends and Babe,
[2:52] Speaker 6: what do you got to say? I think we may
[2:54] Speaker 6: be the first solid verbosal todlu Go Tigers.
[3:00] Speaker 5: All right, this is Chester from Columbus. Hey, this is
[3:02] Speaker 5: Shash and San Antonio.
[3:03] Speaker 3: Hey, this is Caleb from Albuquerque. The New Mexico Lobos
[3:07] Speaker 3: had one of their best wins in thirty years today.
[3:10] Speaker 3: The stadium was packed. We won in double overtime. We're
[3:13] Speaker 3: going to the conference championship. And then Bronco Minden Hall
[3:17] Speaker 3: ruined it again. God, I hate you Bronco Minden Hall.
[3:22] Speaker 3: Two thousand days and the Bucks finally got it done.
[3:27] Speaker 2: I thought it was gonna be weirder when I called that.
[3:29] Speaker 2: I wasn't.
[3:30] Speaker 7: So if you do the math, Michigan paid Bryce Underwood.
[3:34] Speaker 5: They paid him one point five million dollars per completion.
[3:38] Speaker 2: I'm walking out of Michigan Stadium in the snow, and
[3:41] Speaker 2: this is the best day ever.
[3:42] Speaker 6: Investco QQQ more like Investco Turkey, back yard football, pumpkin
[3:49] Speaker 6: pie and beating little.
[3:51] Speaker 5: Brother hook them damn horn.
[3:54] Speaker 2: My disappointment isn't measurable, and my wife is runned to
[3:59] Speaker 2: be an agg It's to no pay.
[4:01] Speaker 4: It's a day later, and I'm still basking in the fact.
[4:05] Speaker 1: That the iowahaw Gys and the Chicago Bears won a
[4:08] Speaker 1: football game on the same day.
[4:10] Speaker 6: Gohawks, Baby got you moss from a snowy day up
[4:13] Speaker 6: here in Minneapolis.
[4:14] Speaker 1: It's just like Luke Fickle. The axe has been retained
[4:16] Speaker 1: for one more year.
[4:17] Speaker 2: You know. I agree with the hog fans that this
[4:20] Speaker 2: isn't really a rivalry they have with Miszoo, because rivalries
[4:23] Speaker 2: are usually competitive.
[4:25] Speaker 5: I received many thoughtful, touching.
[4:28] Speaker 2: Gifts for my friends and family on this November twenty nine,
[4:32] Speaker 2: to my thirtieth birthday, but it is hard to cop
[4:36] Speaker 2: an Oregon win over the wash Agon oscar.
[4:39] Speaker 5: The cop is coming home bear down. I never doubted
[4:42] Speaker 5: you for a minute. Brett Brennan maybe for a minute.
[4:46] Speaker 1: Sorry to all of my sheracuse friends.
[4:48] Speaker 2: On bass of my Boston College Eagles.
[4:51] Speaker 1: I also don't know what happens two and ten.
[4:54] Speaker 2: Let's go, baby, Just like we drew it up, Dan
[4:57] Speaker 2: and tie, Penn State fairly beats Rutgers to make it's
[5:00] Speaker 2: six and six record and being Bowl eligible. We are
[5:05] Speaker 2: One set of accounting majors from New Jersey is crying.
[5:08] Speaker 2: One set of accounting and business majors from New Jersey
[5:11] Speaker 2: is celebrating.
[5:12] Speaker 1: Wahoo, wah, baby go.
[5:15] Speaker 5: Who's so?
[5:15] Speaker 7: If we can all agree that the college Football Playoff
[5:20] Speaker 7: is an entertainment product for making money, why wouldn't you
[5:24] Speaker 7: want arch manning in your entertainment product? Your move CFP committee,
[5:30] Speaker 7: hookem horns.
[5:31] Speaker 4: If this truly be the final reverb line, I have
[5:35] Speaker 4: something very important I need to get off my chest.
[5:37] Speaker 5: All of your school stink, Mine is the only good one.
[5:41] Speaker 5: Stay solid, all right? What a batch of reverbs.
[5:45] Speaker 4: Thank you to our chief reverb engineer Shay for cutting
[5:50] Speaker 4: those together. The reverbline officially closed, at least for now,
[5:55] Speaker 4: Dan Rubinstein, we appreciate the verballerhood getting us off on
[5:59] Speaker 4: the right foot, where do you think the most appropriate
[6:02] Speaker 4: place is to start? Now that we've got Week fourteen
[6:05] Speaker 4: slash Rivalry Week mostly in the books again, a couple
[6:09] Speaker 4: of games still going on as we record at midnight
[6:11] Speaker 4: Eastern time, but much action to discuss a lot going
[6:16] Speaker 4: on in and around the world of college football on
[6:18] Speaker 4: the field, off the field, you name it.
[6:19] Speaker 5: Where do you want to go first?
[6:22] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin just pooped, and I guess we're going to
[6:26] Speaker 1: get a podcast from a bunch of different networks about
[6:30] Speaker 1: how solid it was and what that might mean for
[6:32] Speaker 1: his future decision making. What he had for lunch, maybe
[6:36] Speaker 1: what it implies he's going to have for breakfast tomorrow.
[6:38] Speaker 4: Are you hinting that maybe you're tired of the incessant
[6:42] Speaker 4: Lane Kiff in coverage?
[6:43] Speaker 5: Is that what I am detecting here?
[6:44] Speaker 2: Well?
[6:44] Speaker 1: No, I mean I have so many playoff memories involving
[6:48] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin as a head coach that I'm just trying
[6:51] Speaker 1: to organize all my thoughts at once, because obviously we
[6:54] Speaker 1: have to put that kind of effort and thought into
[6:56] Speaker 1: his future. Where should we start?
[6:59] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[7:00] Speaker 1: Let's start with the Texas game. How about that? It
[7:03] Speaker 1: was Friday, It was huge, It was exciting. It has implications.
[7:06] Speaker 1: Let's go there.
[7:07] Speaker 4: We did a live stream on Friday night and this
[7:10] Speaker 4: is sort of what kicked off the weekend. Of course,
[7:12] Speaker 4: we had games throughout the day on Friday. Some were
[7:16] Speaker 4: better than others. Right, I didn't have George Georgia Tech
[7:19] Speaker 4: being a rock fight. Did not foresee that one. That
[7:22] Speaker 4: was not in the cards for me, not in the
[7:24] Speaker 4: cards for you. We had a couple other games throughout
[7:27] Speaker 4: the day. We will talk about the Egg Bowl that
[7:30] Speaker 4: took place a new Eastern time on Friday, but the
[7:34] Speaker 4: big one was at night and it was between Texas
[7:37] Speaker 4: A and M and Texas the Lone Star Showdown returning
[7:40] Speaker 4: to Austin for the first time in fifteen years. Texas
[7:45] Speaker 4: A and M came in I think a slight favorite
[7:47] Speaker 4: two and a half, three points, something of that nature.
[7:50] Speaker 4: Both of us were on Texas A and M for
[7:52] Speaker 4: a whole multitude of reasons.
[7:54] Speaker 5: But this game evolved in a really strange way. You know.
[7:58] Speaker 4: It went from I thought early looking like arch Manning
[8:04] Speaker 4: was going to be constantly under duress and was not
[8:06] Speaker 4: going to have much much to say with the final outcome,
[8:09] Speaker 4: just because of how ferocious it seemed the A and
[8:12] Speaker 4: M defense was But then is the game were on,
[8:14] Speaker 4: he started to grow into it.
[8:15] Speaker 5: His game were on.
[8:16] Speaker 4: Texas started to actually lean on its run game. It
[8:20] Speaker 4: became apparent that Marcel Reid and the otherwise really potent
[8:24] Speaker 4: Texas A and M offense was not able to just
[8:27] Speaker 4: flip a switch and get it going against his Texas defense.
[8:31] Speaker 4: And before you knew it, Texas pulled the big time
[8:33] Speaker 4: upset at home and through the SEC title chase to
[8:37] Speaker 4: some extent, the College Football playoff chase a bunch of
[8:40] Speaker 4: things into a I don't know, a mini tailspin, let's say,
[8:45] Speaker 4: headed into the college football weekend.
[8:48] Speaker 1: Yes, nook. It was a disappointing first half for arch
[8:53] Speaker 1: Manning and Texas offensively. Texas AM did a nice job
[8:56] Speaker 1: of speeding him up, but Texas did a good job
[8:59] Speaker 1: of not having any back breaking mistakes. They were just
[9:02] Speaker 1: off in that first half. Whereas Texas A and M
[9:06] Speaker 1: was making plays at times, Casey Concepcion was making plays,
[9:10] Speaker 1: Marcel Reid's ankle rolled from under him and it was,
[9:13] Speaker 1: you know, actually really nice to see him come back
[9:15] Speaker 1: pretty quickly from that after what looked like it could
[9:19] Speaker 1: have been a pretty scary situation, and then Texas came
[9:22] Speaker 1: out in the second half and made place. It was
[9:25] Speaker 1: as comfortable as we've seen arch Manning against a very
[9:29] Speaker 1: good team this season in a high leverage moment, and
[9:32] Speaker 1: there have been a lot of them for Texas this season,
[9:34] Speaker 1: given the quality of their opponents over the course of
[9:36] Speaker 1: this season. But stepping into the pocket, you know, forging
[9:39] Speaker 1: that connection with Jack injuries, the tight end transfer from
[9:42] Speaker 1: cal not getting a ton from his running game leading
[9:45] Speaker 1: up to this game, and then all of the sudden
[9:48] Speaker 1: being able to pop some in play action both you know,
[9:51] Speaker 1: with his own arm and then using his own legs
[9:54] Speaker 1: and getting Trey Wisner to get I mean, this wasn't
[9:57] Speaker 1: arch Manning getting Trey Wiser, but Texas getting Trey Wisner
[10:00] Speaker 1: to sort of find grass, find turf and open up
[10:04] Speaker 1: holes for him. And you could just see Texas riding
[10:09] Speaker 1: the energy in the stadium in that second half, getting
[10:12] Speaker 1: stops on defense. And that's without Anthony Hill that this
[10:17] Speaker 1: was when Texas sort of ascended to what we all
[10:21] Speaker 1: expected them to more consistently be this year. I would
[10:25] Speaker 1: argue a little too little, too late in terms of
[10:27] Speaker 1: the Texas fan postseason hopes, but in terms of the
[10:33] Speaker 1: vibes around this specific performance. The ending was immaculate for Texas.
[10:39] Speaker 4: It was I was really impressed with Texas's ability to
[10:42] Speaker 4: rally in the second half with twenty four points. I
[10:45] Speaker 4: was impressed by their defense and as I said, its
[10:49] Speaker 4: ability to contain Marcel Read and otherwise really solid A
[10:53] Speaker 4: and m ground assault. And I've look I've been impressed
[10:57] Speaker 4: the last couple weeks, but I'll say it again with
[10:59] Speaker 4: what we saw out of our I don't want to
[11:00] Speaker 4: be labor the point, but we've seen real growth from
[11:03] Speaker 4: March Manning. It seems like ever since he knocked his
[11:06] Speaker 4: head a couple weeks ago, he's played a lot freer
[11:09] Speaker 4: out there. He's been a lot more decisive. It feels
[11:12] Speaker 4: like he's got better control of the offense. He doesn't
[11:14] Speaker 4: have happy feet, you know, the mechanics at times can
[11:17] Speaker 4: still be a bit wonky. But he is delivering and
[11:19] Speaker 4: he is finding ways to get results. In this case,
[11:22] Speaker 4: it wasn't so much through the air, though there was
[11:24] Speaker 4: a little bit of that. He was getting it done
[11:26] Speaker 4: on the ground at a big run, big thirty five
[11:28] Speaker 4: yard touchdown run at the very end to sort of
[11:30] Speaker 4: give them some distance. They end up winning this one
[11:33] Speaker 4: at home by a twenty seven to seventeen margin. So
[11:37] Speaker 4: I credit Texas on a bunch of different fronts. So
[11:39] Speaker 4: Texas A and M is still going to be in
[11:40] Speaker 4: this thing. But I think you pushed up against the
[11:43] Speaker 4: point now that we are going to hear endlessly over
[11:47] Speaker 4: the next week and a day or so, and that
[11:50] Speaker 4: is going to be can three loss Texas? Should three
[11:53] Speaker 4: loss Texas be actually considered to be part of the
[11:56] Speaker 4: College Football Playoff?
[11:57] Speaker 5: Again?
[11:58] Speaker 4: It's kind of getting tight there at the back end
[12:02] Speaker 4: of the College Football Playoff rankings. Anywhere between nine and
[12:06] Speaker 4: like thirteen could go a bunch of different directions depending
[12:10] Speaker 4: on how the committee feels. Now you add in this
[12:12] Speaker 4: Texas element, and who knows. I don't personally think they should.
[12:16] Speaker 5: Be up there.
[12:17] Speaker 4: I think they made a hell of a run here
[12:18] Speaker 4: and this was a fantastic win, one of the best
[12:21] Speaker 4: wins we've seen all season. But I don't have a
[12:23] Speaker 4: three loss Texas in at this point.
[12:26] Speaker 1: Do you think we have a lot to get to
[12:27] Speaker 1: do you think the time is right to bring back
[12:30] Speaker 1: Mac Brown to start campaigning in the way that only
[12:33] Speaker 1: Mac Brown knows how to do, and he can take
[12:36] Speaker 1: shots at Cal once again like he did way back when. Yes,
[12:39] Speaker 1: for old time sake, but this is the time for
[12:42] Speaker 1: Mac Brown to make his beautiful return to Austin to
[12:46] Speaker 1: start the politicking because while Sark is doing his best,
[12:50] Speaker 1: there's nothing like ol Mac and maybe Sally, you know
[12:54] Speaker 1: Sally to get involved with the Texas PR blitz that
[13:00] Speaker 1: a certain network based in Bristol, Connecticut may or may
[13:02] Speaker 1: not be behind. So it was great for Texas. Obviously,
[13:07] Speaker 1: the Georgia game still happens, So it hasn't been a
[13:09] Speaker 1: great November for Texas, but certainly there have been more
[13:14] Speaker 1: promising moments for Texas, and Texas A and M had
[13:18] Speaker 1: been getting away with it for a little while against
[13:20] Speaker 1: some down opponents. It hasn't been an incredible schedule like
[13:22] Speaker 1: Texas has faced for Texas A and M and some
[13:25] Speaker 1: close wins, some close calls. Most recently against South Carolina,
[13:28] Speaker 1: we called the lro the luck running out. I don't
[13:30] Speaker 1: think Texas A and M is a lucky team. I
[13:31] Speaker 1: think they're a very good team. But you can't keep
[13:34] Speaker 1: winning like that and expect to keep winning like that
[13:37] Speaker 1: as opponents get better, And it just couldn't happen in Austin.
[13:40] Speaker 1: I'm glad the energy and malice and emotional violence is
[13:46] Speaker 1: back in this matchup and in this sport.
[13:47] Speaker 4: I am too. I am too. And it actually worked
[13:50] Speaker 4: out quite well. Doing it on a Friday night. This
[13:52] Speaker 4: was nice, great, I have yeah Friday. I appreciated that.
[13:55] Speaker 4: So by virtue of the A and M loss that
[13:59] Speaker 4: set into a series of events that A put Georgia
[14:03] Speaker 4: into the SEC Title Game. And then by virtue of
[14:06] Speaker 4: the win in the Iron Bowl just a short while ago,
[14:09] Speaker 4: a very good game, a crazy game in the Iron
[14:12] Speaker 4: Bowl between Alabama and Auburn. It looks like we're going
[14:15] Speaker 4: to get a rematch in the SEC title game between
[14:18] Speaker 4: the George Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson tied down.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I feel good about that. As a
[14:25] Speaker 1: television viewer, I imagine both of these teams would rather
[14:28] Speaker 1: not play this game and just move to sim this
[14:31] Speaker 1: game and move on to the College Football playoff. But
[14:35] Speaker 1: the way we got here, obviously, Georgia beating Georgia Tech
[14:39] Speaker 1: had no bearing on their their clinching. Obviously, there was
[14:42] Speaker 1: other elements of this that clinched it, namely Texas A
[14:45] Speaker 1: and M losing. But it's an easy transition to Georgia
[14:48] Speaker 1: and Georgia Tech and an absolute rock fight before the
[14:51] Speaker 1: Texas Texas A and M matchup. It was arguably Gunner
[14:55] Speaker 1: Stockton's worst game as the starting quarterback.
[14:57] Speaker 5: Seventy set ti seventy yard. Show some respect for.
[15:01] Speaker 4: The seventy yards passing that Gunner stock that had in
[15:04] Speaker 4: this football game against a very bad, otherwise very bad
[15:07] Speaker 4: Georgia Tech defense.
[15:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, the Georgia Tech secondary played very well for the
[15:12] Speaker 1: most part against this Georgia offense. They got off the
[15:15] Speaker 1: field over and over and over again and out of nowhere.
[15:18] Speaker 1: By the way, because the Georgia defense, Georgia Tech defense
[15:21] Speaker 1: these past five six weeks has been pretty abysmal, but
[15:25] Speaker 1: a great game plan executed really well, and Georgia had
[15:28] Speaker 1: to fight for tough yards. They made plays when it matters,
[15:30] Speaker 1: and it did come down, by the way, a beautiful
[15:32] Speaker 1: Haines King ball up the left sideline to set up
[15:36] Speaker 1: a hail Mary attempt at the end of this game.
[15:38] Speaker 1: And this was a is a tough offensive game for
[15:41] Speaker 1: Georgia Tech by and large, both on the ground and
[15:44] Speaker 1: through the air. A great game plan execution for Georgia's
[15:47] Speaker 1: defense as well, but they weren't positioned to I think
[15:51] Speaker 1: tie this game late and came up short there, but
[15:56] Speaker 1: it was if you like offensive football, I'm sorry this
[16:01] Speaker 1: one didn't have a ton of it, but it was
[16:03] Speaker 1: still a fun, weird back and forth with I think
[16:07] Speaker 1: a decent amount of offensive slop thrown in at times.
[16:10] Speaker 1: Gunner Stockton just looked pretty tentative going into this Georgia
[16:14] Speaker 1: Tech defense. But we say win your clunkers for a reason,
[16:17] Speaker 1: and Georgia absolutely did in this one. In it was
[16:21] Speaker 1: a disappointing visual for me that this game was in
[16:23] Speaker 1: Mercedes Benz Stadium, but all the same, good win for
[16:27] Speaker 1: Georgia as they move forward as a likely top four
[16:31] Speaker 1: or five seed in this playoff.
[16:32] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[16:33] Speaker 4: I mean it's clean, old fashioned hate. As with most
[16:35] Speaker 4: of the rivalries we're going to talk about here tonight,
[16:37] Speaker 4: it's not about winning by thirty. It's about winning by three,
[16:40] Speaker 4: or just finding a way to win by point three,
[16:41] Speaker 4: anything you can do to get past the rival. We
[16:45] Speaker 4: throw the records out. I don't have the sound handy,
[16:47] Speaker 4: but you know the drill here. I did not have
[16:49] Speaker 4: a rock fight in this game, though in the Bengo
[16:50] Speaker 4: card no we found at far was sixteen to nine.
[16:53] Speaker 4: Either team eclipse more than two hundred and sixty total yards.
[16:57] Speaker 4: And you know I had the difference as George is
[16:59] Speaker 4: just ability to run the ball a little bit better
[17:02] Speaker 4: control the clock. I think they had about an eleven
[17:04] Speaker 4: minute edge in terms of time of possession.
[17:07] Speaker 5: And Georgia just says, alligator blood this year.
[17:09] Speaker 4: Man, they just keep freaking hanging around. Can't kill them.
[17:12] Speaker 4: And this is another instance of that. They will get
[17:14] Speaker 4: another crack now at Alabama, who just won the Iron Bowl.
[17:19] Speaker 4: This game was nuts. I was on pins and needles
[17:23] Speaker 4: the entire time watching this game for two reasons. For
[17:26] Speaker 4: three reasons actually. The first is it was just a
[17:29] Speaker 4: hell of a game, a lot of emotion. You could
[17:32] Speaker 4: feel that coursing through the speakers in your television. The
[17:35] Speaker 4: second is I picked Auburn out right. I think you
[17:38] Speaker 4: picked Auburn outright as well. I can't remember for that
[17:42] Speaker 4: far back continue, but we both were at least keen
[17:46] Speaker 4: on Auburn to keep this one close and make a
[17:48] Speaker 4: really good game out of it.
[17:49] Speaker 5: Okay, So there was that side of it.
[17:52] Speaker 4: And then just speaking personally as somebody who has a
[17:55] Speaker 4: rooting interest in Notre Dame, who I don't know what
[17:58] Speaker 4: the Committee is going to do with Miami after they
[18:01] Speaker 4: knocked off Pitt.
[18:01] Speaker 5: We will talk about that game.
[18:03] Speaker 4: It didn't just knock them off, handle them. Yeah, took
[18:06] Speaker 4: care of Pit, you know, no big deal. I do
[18:10] Speaker 4: have a little bit of a concern as to how
[18:11] Speaker 4: the Committee might feel about Notre Dame in light of
[18:14] Speaker 4: some of the results we saw today. So I just
[18:17] Speaker 4: as a fan, was rooting for Auburn to pull the w.
[18:21] Speaker 1: Yes.
[18:21] Speaker 4: I don't know how Auburn fans have put themselves through
[18:25] Speaker 4: this for twelve straight games.
[18:27] Speaker 1: This is like twelve straight decades.
[18:29] Speaker 4: But yeah, every play of the Auburn offense is either
[18:34] Speaker 4: a spectacular moment or an utter disaster, and there is
[18:39] Speaker 4: no in between. People die every day with lesser ailments
[18:44] Speaker 4: than this. Jeez, Okay, I don't know how you survive
[18:50] Speaker 4: this if you are an Auburn fan. It makes sense
[18:53] Speaker 4: why they got rid of Hugh Freeze. They don't want
[18:55] Speaker 4: to deal with this anymore either. This was a very
[18:59] Speaker 4: win of game for the Auburn Tigers. I will credit
[19:03] Speaker 4: Alabama because there were some moments in this game where
[19:07] Speaker 4: they needed to rise to the occasion. A hu I
[19:10] Speaker 4: got all time big balls moment, I'm gonna call it
[19:13] Speaker 4: for Kaitlin de Bor going for it on fourth and
[19:16] Speaker 4: whatever instead of kicking the chip shot field goal to
[19:19] Speaker 4: take the late lead.
[19:20] Speaker 5: They score the.
[19:21] Speaker 4: Touchdown, they end up winning this one twenty seven to twenty.
[19:23] Speaker 4: So clearly Alabama rose to the moment when they had to,
[19:27] Speaker 4: even though it wasn't their best game. But on the
[19:30] Speaker 4: Auburn side, and I will speak to that just because
[19:32] Speaker 4: I was watching from that perspective. I was an Auburn
[19:35] Speaker 4: fan for the day. Okay, this game was infuriating because
[19:41] Speaker 4: it was there. It was there. But if it's not
[19:45] Speaker 4: a drop, it's a fumble, it's a penalty, it's a
[19:49] Speaker 4: blown coverage, it's this was a poorly coached team on
[19:53] Speaker 4: display that still had enough talent to win the Iron Bowl,
[19:58] Speaker 4: and ultimately they lost it on fumble. Fittingly, they lost
[20:02] Speaker 4: it on a cam Coleman fumble. So all's well, I
[20:05] Speaker 4: guess that ends well at least if you're sticking to
[20:09] Speaker 4: the brand that was.
[20:10] Speaker 5: Auburn football in twenty twenty five. This is a hell
[20:12] Speaker 5: of a game.
[20:13] Speaker 1: Man. You just think you can fire Hugh Freese and
[20:16] Speaker 1: get rid of that stank in your program in the
[20:19] Speaker 1: same season. What have we been calling them elite losers?
[20:26] Speaker 4: This is a different echelon of elite loser dumb. Okay, Yes,
[20:32] Speaker 4: I don't know how you do this and sustain it
[20:36] Speaker 4: for a full twelve game season. It has been this
[20:39] Speaker 4: way the whole time. It didn't matter who the quarterback was,
[20:42] Speaker 4: didn't matter who the coach was. They have been this
[20:44] Speaker 4: team all year. And I feel deeply, deeply for the
[20:49] Speaker 4: Auburn fans out there in the for baller hood because
[20:53] Speaker 4: you all need like take a gummy or hit like
[20:56] Speaker 4: hit the bottle, do something, Go get them at size,
[21:00] Speaker 4: whatever it takes. Man, find some way to alleviate the stress,
[21:05] Speaker 4: because this is finally over now and you can move on,
[21:08] Speaker 4: hopefully and get.
[21:09] Speaker 5: To a more stable place.
[21:10] Speaker 1: It's never over, Ty. We're about to have signing day
[21:13] Speaker 1: next week, We're about to have the portal opening, We're
[21:15] Speaker 1: about to have Auburn hire a coach. Ty, We're just
[21:19] Speaker 1: starting this. Being an Auburn fan is like somebody putting
[21:23] Speaker 1: an air tag in your car without you knowing it
[21:25] Speaker 1: right that you're just being followed by this misery. It's
[21:29] Speaker 1: tracking you. You're afflicted with Auburn fandom at this point,
[21:33] Speaker 1: So yes, I mean the end of this game was wild,
[21:36] Speaker 1: absolutely wild. They somehow they lose the ball on the
[21:38] Speaker 1: cam Coleman fumble out of bounds there by the way
[21:41] Speaker 1: leading up to that point, they go down seventeen to nothing.
[21:44] Speaker 1: Then absolutely hound Ty Simpson in the Alabama offense and
[21:48] Speaker 1: he makes a couple of incredible plays. I think it
[21:50] Speaker 1: was Isaiah Horton who had I think five catches, three
[21:52] Speaker 1: of which went for touchdowns. Just like an insane game
[21:55] Speaker 1: on all levels. Jam Miller goes out hurt midway through
[21:59] Speaker 1: this one. Alabama keeps sort of finding a way to
[22:03] Speaker 1: outpace Auburn slightly. Auburn and Ashton Daniels keep sort of
[22:06] Speaker 1: clawing back, and I think it was Simmons who was
[22:09] Speaker 1: the receiver who was shining, you know, sort of all
[22:11] Speaker 1: or nothing plays for Auburn and able to move them
[22:14] Speaker 1: all some on the ground, but they keep clawing back.
[22:17] Speaker 1: Have an opportunity a couple times late in this game,
[22:19] Speaker 1: even after that fumble, they get a punt with like
[22:23] Speaker 1: twenty seconds left after stopping Bama with an opportunity to
[22:26] Speaker 1: at least get to midfield for a heave, completely muff
[22:30] Speaker 1: the punt. The returner tries to catch it with his larynx.
[22:35] Speaker 4: I don't know what the plan was there here whatever,
[22:38] Speaker 4: This is like where your collar bones meet the sternum.
[22:41] Speaker 5: That's where he tried to catch the punt.
[22:43] Speaker 1: It fumbles. It just bounces straight up into the air
[22:47] Speaker 1: to four awaiting Alabama players who all somehow bat it
[22:50] Speaker 1: out of bounds, giving Auburn even more life, but taking
[22:53] Speaker 1: off a few seconds off the clock. Ashton Daniels both
[22:57] Speaker 1: doesn't there's no plan at the end. He both doesn't
[23:00] Speaker 1: throw like a quick outer or crossing pattern to get
[23:02] Speaker 1: out of bounds, hopefully closer to midfield. He's just immediately besieged,
[23:07] Speaker 1: tries to make a play and basically gets two seconds
[23:12] Speaker 1: left on the clock after completing a pass. Is in
[23:14] Speaker 1: shotgun formations, so not even attempting a miraculous spike, and
[23:19] Speaker 1: they attempt some sort of miracle play that goes nowhere,
[23:21] Speaker 1: and there's the ending.
[23:23] Speaker 4: There were some controversial calls and no calls in this
[23:26] Speaker 4: game as well. Always has very much been the theme
[23:29] Speaker 4: of twenty twenty five as well. If we are putting
[23:32] Speaker 4: a bow on this thing, so this game had at
[23:34] Speaker 4: all just whether you're a Bama fan an Auburn fan,
[23:38] Speaker 4: God bless you.
[23:39] Speaker 5: If you're an fan, oh my god, or if.
[23:42] Speaker 4: You're a fan of the SEC, or just college football
[23:44] Speaker 4: in general, this was a hell of an ending.
[23:45] Speaker 5: You love to see great.
[23:46] Speaker 1: I think if you're an Alabama fan, you're walking through
[23:48] Speaker 1: a car wash after that one too.
[23:49] Speaker 5: My god. Yeah, I'm not a fan of either team.
[23:52] Speaker 5: I'm walking through a car wash. That was nuts.
[23:54] Speaker 4: So your final score twenty seven to twenty. Alabama finishes
[23:57] Speaker 4: the year ten and two. They are going to the
[23:59] Speaker 4: SEC Championship Game for a rematch with the Georgia Bulldogs.
[24:03] Speaker 4: That one's going to take place on Saturday at four
[24:06] Speaker 4: pm Eastern time. There was some other SEC action, but
[24:10] Speaker 4: I do want to move on and talk about some
[24:12] Speaker 4: other conferences and we can circle back to the likes
[24:15] Speaker 4: of Oklahoma and others, and maybe Old miss as well.
[24:19] Speaker 4: I don't want to lead off with the Lane Kiff
[24:21] Speaker 4: and stuff, because it feels like the whole world has
[24:23] Speaker 4: gone full Lane Kiffin. So let's give everybody a little
[24:26] Speaker 4: taste of what else took place in college football.
[24:28] Speaker 1: I'm told Lane Kiffin just had a granola bar.
[24:30] Speaker 4: Continue and then we could come back, yeah, and talk
[24:32] Speaker 4: about mister Lane Kiffin.
[24:33] Speaker 5: If that's okay with everybody else there, let's talk about
[24:37] Speaker 5: the Ohio State Michigan game.
[24:39] Speaker 4: Okay, Ohio State Michigan. Obviously, this game is a ton
[24:43] Speaker 4: of fanfare. It is known as the game Michigan had
[24:46] Speaker 4: won four in a row. This one was in ann Arbor.
[24:49] Speaker 4: There were snow flurries about the stadium that intensified as
[24:54] Speaker 4: the game were on. By the end of the game,
[24:56] Speaker 4: we had a nice little light layer. Yeah, freshly fallen
[25:01] Speaker 4: snow on the Michigan Stadium turf. It was Ohio State
[25:05] Speaker 4: finally getting over the hump, knocking off the Michigan Wolverine
[25:09] Speaker 4: s dan. We did a live stream for this one.
[25:11] Speaker 4: Had a great turnout. Appreciate everybody stopping on by. You know,
[25:15] Speaker 4: it felt like Michigan got off to a nice start.
[25:18] Speaker 4: It really did.
[25:19] Speaker 5: They weren't able to get touchdowns no.
[25:21] Speaker 1: But or touchdown singular, yeah.
[25:24] Speaker 4: Or touchdown singular. It felt like they got off to
[25:26] Speaker 4: a nice start though the crowd was into it. It
[25:27] Speaker 4: felt like they had some really early momentum. Julian saying,
[25:31] Speaker 4: second his first pass was incomplete, his second pass was
[25:34] Speaker 4: underthrown and picked off. So the crowd is going nuts.
[25:37] Speaker 4: I mean, everybody is into this game, right, But then,
[25:41] Speaker 4: slowly but surely, over the course of the next let's say,
[25:44] Speaker 4: fifty minutes or so, it just felt to me like
[25:47] Speaker 4: we sort of had a low key crock potting Yeah.
[25:58] Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
[25:58] Speaker 4: It just felt like, very slowly but surely, Ohio State
[26:01] Speaker 4: was cooking.
[26:02] Speaker 5: Yes, they were cooking.
[26:04] Speaker 4: Michigan really couldn't string enough together to build any kind
[26:07] Speaker 4: of serious momentum, and Ohio State was good enough on
[26:11] Speaker 4: the ground, They were good enough through the air. I
[26:13] Speaker 4: don't know if any element of any of this was spectacular,
[26:16] Speaker 4: but it was good enough to win. Ohio State I thought,
[26:19] Speaker 4: looked really impressive in this matchup, and they went from
[26:24] Speaker 4: early on maybe trying to play the Michigan style football.
[26:27] Speaker 5: We were on the stream talking.
[26:28] Speaker 4: It through, like are they running the same playbook as
[26:30] Speaker 4: last year's Ohio State Michigan game? Slowly graduated away from that,
[26:35] Speaker 4: started throwing balls over the top. Had some really nice
[26:38] Speaker 4: receiving days to talk about, not as much from Jeremiah Smith,
[26:41] Speaker 4: but it ended up being a really good day for
[26:42] Speaker 4: Julian saying they ran the ball effectively.
[26:46] Speaker 5: I thought a complete performance in the.
[26:48] Speaker 4: End for Ohio State on the road in Michigan Stadium
[26:51] Speaker 4: to get over the hump.
[26:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, this morning, this day had it all for Ohio State.
[26:56] Speaker 1: You mentioned the sort of draining the life out of
[26:59] Speaker 1: me Chigan drives. Near the end of the game. We
[27:02] Speaker 1: saw some big plays through the air. We saw more
[27:05] Speaker 1: of an emergence, a continued emergence from Bo Jackson. On
[27:08] Speaker 1: the ground, Julian saying remains extremely accurate outside of you know,
[27:11] Speaker 1: a couple balls here and there. Against Michigan, he was just,
[27:13] Speaker 1: you know, sort of just crazy efficient. He was a
[27:17] Speaker 1: killer for Ohio State. We had the like slight bobble
[27:21] Speaker 1: controversy for Jeremiah Smith.
[27:24] Speaker 5: I think that was a touchback.
[27:27] Speaker 1: Look, you want to go, you want to take it
[27:28] Speaker 1: to a thousand frames per second, and you want to
[27:31] Speaker 1: you want to show me exactly where the bobble was
[27:34] Speaker 1: in relation to when he crossed the goal line. I
[27:38] Speaker 1: will watch the zuppruter of the bobble. Yeah, but when
[27:43] Speaker 1: I see a dB and a defense get cooked like
[27:46] Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith cooked them, and the ball slightly shifts as
[27:49] Speaker 1: he crosses the plane, it's especially with the benefit of
[27:53] Speaker 1: watching that entire game that had basically no bearing on
[27:57] Speaker 1: the outcome. I'd love a little bit more explanation from refs.
[28:02] Speaker 1: I'd love, you know, the transparency that the ACC has
[28:05] Speaker 1: in going to the sort of command center the HQ.
[28:09] Speaker 1: But I don't know. For whatever reason that didn't bother
[28:12] Speaker 1: me so much. Wasn't rooting for Michigan or Ohio State.
[28:14] Speaker 1: I just watched a great play happen and felt like,
[28:18] Speaker 1: we don't need to litigate this in super slow mo
[28:22] Speaker 1: when I was pretty sure it wasn't going to have
[28:23] Speaker 1: a bearing on the final game. But I get if
[28:25] Speaker 1: you're a Michigan fan that it's infuriating, and you have
[28:27] Speaker 1: that right. I'm not going to tell you not to
[28:28] Speaker 1: be angry. Ohio State just backed him down in the
[28:32] Speaker 1: post and dunked on him constantly in that second half.
[28:35] Speaker 1: If I were a Michigan fan, I'd also be infuriated
[28:37] Speaker 1: over whatever the non vision is and game planning and
[28:42] Speaker 1: play calling is for this offense. You have a true
[28:45] Speaker 1: freshman quarterback. I understand you're not going to have a
[28:47] Speaker 1: complicated playbook. He's not going to go through progressions like
[28:50] Speaker 1: you would for a sophomore, a junior, a senior, or
[28:52] Speaker 1: something like that it just seems like there's no rhyme
[28:55] Speaker 1: or reason for this Michigan offense. Now they're playing arguably
[28:58] Speaker 1: the best defense in America, so there's just always going
[29:00] Speaker 1: to be limitations about what you're able to do against
[29:03] Speaker 1: Ohio States defense this season, but it just seemed super
[29:08] Speaker 1: vanilla and predictable, and in a game like this, this
[29:11] Speaker 1: is the time to just really go for it, really
[29:15] Speaker 1: throw everything at Ohio State, do everything you can to
[29:17] Speaker 1: keep them off balance, especially early on in drives to
[29:20] Speaker 1: stay ahead of the sticks. And I know Michigan doesn't
[29:24] Speaker 1: have the talent that they did in these last couple
[29:26] Speaker 1: of seasons, but man, I just I felt like they
[29:30] Speaker 1: came into this game with, you know, a plane scoop
[29:33] Speaker 1: of very bland vanilla ice cream and said, Okay, top chef,
[29:37] Speaker 1: here we come. And I just I was so disappointed
[29:41] Speaker 1: with the lack of fire in sort of like intellectually
[29:45] Speaker 1: behind Michigan's offense that I something needs to change. I
[29:49] Speaker 1: don't know if it's a new coordinator. I don't know
[29:50] Speaker 1: if it's a new vision for how Like why would
[29:53] Speaker 1: a receiver transfer in? Why would Bryce Underwood stay obviously financially,
[29:58] Speaker 1: but like seems so uninspired from the Michigan end, playing
[30:02] Speaker 1: at home with a ton on the line. Maybe I'm wrong.
[30:04] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[30:04] Speaker 5: Well, here's the thing.
[30:07] Speaker 4: That game plan has worked, That game plan has worked
[30:11] Speaker 4: the last couple of years against Ohio State.
[30:14] Speaker 1: Not with this team this year, with a true freshman quarterback,
[30:18] Speaker 1: with this offensive line and these limitations that they have
[30:22] Speaker 1: on offense.
[30:23] Speaker 5: I listen. It is not apples to apples.
[30:24] Speaker 4: I understand that, but it looked to me very much
[30:27] Speaker 4: like some of the Ohio State Michigan games we have
[30:30] Speaker 4: seen recently. And maybe because this Ohio State team had
[30:34] Speaker 4: a better plan.
[30:35] Speaker 5: Maybe it's just because they're better. I believe they're better.
[30:37] Speaker 4: I think most people believe they're all around a better
[30:39] Speaker 4: team than Michigan this year. Michigan is still relatively young,
[30:43] Speaker 4: but it, for whatever reason, did not work as well.
[30:46] Speaker 5: It did feel relatively uninspiring.
[30:48] Speaker 4: Bryce Underwood was eight of eighteen for just sixty three
[30:51] Speaker 4: yards passing and interception. They had a couple nice early
[30:55] Speaker 4: runs from Jordan Marshall right, but it just never felt
[30:59] Speaker 4: like they could string enough together to establish any kind
[31:03] Speaker 4: of real momentum and seriously challenge Ohio State.
[31:06] Speaker 5: Outside of the first.
[31:07] Speaker 4: Couple minutes of the game. From that point forward, it
[31:09] Speaker 4: was really all Ohio State. And I think it's a
[31:11] Speaker 4: great metaphor to say they backed them down in the
[31:16] Speaker 4: post and dunked on them.
[31:17] Speaker 1: But like a dad with an eight year old, right,
[31:20] Speaker 1: like an unfair advantage, it seemed in the second half
[31:24] Speaker 1: because there was no threat from the Michigan offense to
[31:27] Speaker 1: throw the ball consistently to receivers running intermediate routes, let
[31:32] Speaker 1: alone deep routes.
[31:33] Speaker 5: No, no, there wasn't.
[31:35] Speaker 4: And you know, on the flip side of it too,
[31:38] Speaker 4: I mean, one of the things that we discussed was, again,
[31:41] Speaker 4: you're gonna have this problem all the time.
[31:42] Speaker 5: If you're playing Ohio State, at least this year.
[31:45] Speaker 4: And I've often used the I Love Lucy comparison for
[31:48] Speaker 4: our older viewers out there who are familiar with nineteen
[31:51] Speaker 4: fifty two episodes of I Love Lucy. But the cookies
[31:55] Speaker 4: on the conveyor belt, they're just like, too many things
[31:59] Speaker 4: to keep track of on the Ohio State side, Yeah,
[32:02] Speaker 4: too many guys to cover, too many different ways that
[32:04] Speaker 4: they can kill you. And Michigan was up against that,
[32:08] Speaker 4: as all the teams have been this year. What Michigan
[32:10] Speaker 4: needed to try and do to take away some element
[32:13] Speaker 4: of it was get pressure on, Julian saying, and they couldn't.
[32:16] Speaker 4: They really did not do that. The Ohio State offensive line,
[32:19] Speaker 4: I thought did a really good job in this game
[32:20] Speaker 4: keeping him upright, giving him time. And when you give
[32:22] Speaker 4: him time, we talked about it in the build.
[32:25] Speaker 5: Up to this game.
[32:25] Speaker 4: He had a seventy nine point four percent completion percentage.
[32:28] Speaker 4: I don't know what it is on the season now.
[32:30] Speaker 4: I don't know if he broke the single season record
[32:32] Speaker 4: or not, but that's beside the point. He's been a
[32:35] Speaker 4: damn accurate passer and when you give him time to
[32:37] Speaker 4: throw to these receivers. Granted, Jeremiah Smith didn't really eat
[32:41] Speaker 4: outside of that touchdown, but the rest of the receiving
[32:44] Speaker 4: corps did a pretty good job here. Julian Sayin's going
[32:46] Speaker 4: to beat you. I think we've come to know that
[32:48] Speaker 4: about him in his first year as a starter, and
[32:50] Speaker 4: Michigan just was not able to upset his rhythm enough
[32:54] Speaker 4: to get any serious traction here on stopping this offense.
[32:56] Speaker 4: Twenty seven to nine was your final score. It wasn't
[33:00] Speaker 4: as if Ohio State went out there and put up
[33:02] Speaker 4: fifty points or anything crazy, but it still felt like
[33:05] Speaker 4: a rather complete and dominating effort from the Buckeyes as
[33:07] Speaker 4: they go on the road to win.
[33:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate coming back
[33:11] Speaker 1: from injury. This Over the course of the season, this
[33:14] Speaker 1: has been a new look offensive line that I think
[33:16] Speaker 1: has had some up and down moments relatively speaking when
[33:19] Speaker 1: you go twelve to zero in the Big Ten, But
[33:21] Speaker 1: I thought the offensive line was pretty sensational against Michigan today.
[33:26] Speaker 5: I would agree with that. Ohio State finished as the
[33:28] Speaker 5: year twelve and oh.
[33:29] Speaker 4: They are going to the Big Ten Championship to square
[33:32] Speaker 4: off against the Indiana Whoho Hoosiers DAN.
[33:35] Speaker 5: It has been a.
[33:35] Speaker 4: Charmed two year run for Indiana. They won fifty six
[33:40] Speaker 4: to three, took the Old Oaken Bucket a knockoff Perdue Dan.
[33:45] Speaker 4: Been a rough year for Purdue, but they're kind of rebooting.
[33:48] Speaker 5: Under Barry Odom.
[33:49] Speaker 4: Indiana also finishes the year twelve and oh, which means
[33:52] Speaker 4: we're going to get a one versus two Big Ten
[33:55] Speaker 4: title in Indianapolis next week on Fox at Night.
[34:00] Speaker 1: Yep. And by the way, I just saw that Lane
[34:03] Speaker 1: Kiffin is having trouble finding his iPhone charger. I don't
[34:06] Speaker 1: know if you have a breaking nose. He has found
[34:09] Speaker 1: his iPhone charger. Everything is okay. Continue.
[34:12] Speaker 5: We have had far too many Lane kiffen updates. The latest.
[34:16] Speaker 4: Now, as we're watching this at halftime or as we're
[34:19] Speaker 4: recording this, I should say, at halftime of the Notre
[34:21] Speaker 4: Dame game, Lane Kiffin's going to hold a team meeting
[34:23] Speaker 4: Sunday at nine am, whatever that means. So it sounded
[34:28] Speaker 4: as though the sticking point was Lane wants to go
[34:31] Speaker 4: to LSU, but he wants to coach ole Miss if
[34:33] Speaker 4: he can in the playoff. That obviously presents something of
[34:36] Speaker 4: a conflict of interest. Perhaps we could debate the merits
[34:39] Speaker 4: of that as we go on on.
[34:41] Speaker 1: There's a debate. I'm just saying, unless maybe you work
[34:44] Speaker 1: you're represented by the same agency as Lane Kiffin, which
[34:47] Speaker 1: apparently the people shilling for this idea are.
[34:50] Speaker 4: We can dabble in the marketplace of ideas a little
[34:53] Speaker 4: bit later on.
[34:53] Speaker 5: I want to talk about other things not named Lane Kiffin.
[34:56] Speaker 1: That's fine, let's do that.
[34:58] Speaker 5: Let's head on over to the ACC.
[35:04] Speaker 1: Okay, let's do it. Holy hell, Dan, Yeah, sorry, the
[35:10] Speaker 1: ACC Colin Duke runs this bitch. Okay, continue, excuse my language.
[35:16] Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
[35:18] Speaker 4: Miami won their game earlier in the day on Saturday
[35:22] Speaker 4: over Pitt. They won thirty eight to seven. This game
[35:24] Speaker 4: was over pretty much the second it started.
[35:27] Speaker 5: It was apparent. You know, I was high on Pitt.
[35:29] Speaker 4: I've been talking up Pitt since the beginning of our
[35:32] Speaker 4: what August, end of July, I've been all in on Pitt.
[35:36] Speaker 4: I thought Pitt, the way Pitt rallied with their new quarterback,
[35:39] Speaker 4: Mason Hydel, all of that was very admirable. Yeah, definitely
[35:42] Speaker 4: agree with of course, for sure. We had made a
[35:45] Speaker 4: nice little run Boozy Turner last week and lighting up
[35:49] Speaker 4: Georgia Tech on the road putting up I went four
[35:52] Speaker 4: hundred plus yards. It was great, had a nice little run,
[35:56] Speaker 4: and I credit them for what they did. Miami came
[35:59] Speaker 4: out with an ax to grind. They were the better
[36:01] Speaker 4: team from the jump. I had this game on as
[36:04] Speaker 4: we were doing our live stream of Ohio State Michigan.
[36:07] Speaker 4: Every time I looked over, it just felt like Miami
[36:09] Speaker 4: was doing whatever the hell it wanted.
[36:11] Speaker 1: Yes, did you, by the way, did you see Mario
[36:13] Speaker 1: Cristo Ball's quote about the weather. Going into this weather, no,
[36:16] Speaker 1: I did not, so I mentioned that it was going
[36:21] Speaker 1: to be quite cold in Miami. Obviously it's not a
[36:23] Speaker 1: place that is quite cold at kickoff and Mario Cristobal said,
[36:27] Speaker 1: there's no such thing as cold weather. Just soft people.
[36:31] Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, that was perfect, perfect, Just soft people,
[36:37] Speaker 5: tough people.
[36:39] Speaker 4: Thirty eight to seven was your final here, and I listen,
[36:43] Speaker 4: it's hard to watch this game and come away unimpressed
[36:47] Speaker 4: with Miami. You know, there's a whole playoff conversation that's
[36:50] Speaker 4: going to take place about the Canes and should they
[36:52] Speaker 4: move up, If so, how far they will not be
[36:55] Speaker 4: playing for the ACC championship. They did not hit the
[36:58] Speaker 4: parlay that we had discussed in previous episodes, but they
[37:01] Speaker 4: want in resounding fashion, and I got to believe that
[37:03] Speaker 4: the committee is going to reward them to some extent.
[37:05] Speaker 4: To what extent, We're gonna have to wait until Tuesday
[37:07] Speaker 4: night to find that out. But these are exactly the
[37:10] Speaker 4: types of games that Miami has lost in the past.
[37:13] Speaker 4: We saw it happen last year, big game on the road,
[37:16] Speaker 4: late in the season, perhaps to close out the season.
[37:20] Speaker 5: You gotta win in resounding fashion.
[37:21] Speaker 4: You got to go out on a high note, especially
[37:24] Speaker 4: if you may not have that extra chapter in a
[37:27] Speaker 4: conference championship game.
[37:28] Speaker 5: So to that end, Miami passed the assignment.
[37:30] Speaker 4: I mean, Miami was awesome in this game against Pitt
[37:32] Speaker 4: Day again won by thirty one points on the road
[37:36] Speaker 4: against the Pitt Panthers. That is not the story though
[37:38] Speaker 4: in the ACC that might be the story with respect
[37:42] Speaker 4: to the college football playoff rankings debate that has been
[37:45] Speaker 4: ongoing now for what feels like in eternity. The bigger
[37:49] Speaker 4: talking point now is going to be this ACC championship game.
[37:52] Speaker 1: But who's baby get used to it?
[37:54] Speaker 5: Oh my gosh.
[37:55] Speaker 4: The Virginia Cavaliers, uh, well, in twenty seven to seven
[37:58] Speaker 4: over Virginia Tech, Virginia Tix looked like they were ready
[38:01] Speaker 4: to cash it in. Virginia Tech fully mailed it in.
[38:04] Speaker 4: Kyron drones went four of sixteen for seventy eight yards.
[38:08] Speaker 4: They were two of fourteen on third downs. Virginia Tech
[38:10] Speaker 4: was officially your one, two three cancun Keem of the week. Okay,
[38:13] Speaker 4: scrolling Black Friday deals on the side. They did not
[38:16] Speaker 4: want to be there. Even if they said they did,
[38:19] Speaker 4: they most certainly did not play that way. The Commonwealth
[38:21] Speaker 4: Cup went almost immediately to Virginia. Vaw Tech never had
[38:24] Speaker 4: anything going. Virginia's opponent in the ACC Championship game is
[38:29] Speaker 4: going to be seven and five Duke. It is going
[38:33] Speaker 4: to be the Duke Blue Devils because SMU went on
[38:36] Speaker 4: the road to the hinterlands of the California Golden Bearers, who,
[38:39] Speaker 4: by the way, just fired their coach and lost by
[38:42] Speaker 4: a thirty eight to thirty five bargain. Duke playing for
[38:46] Speaker 4: the ACC Championship against Virginia opens up the possibility of
[38:52] Speaker 4: a no bid ACC college football playoff and how likely
[38:57] Speaker 4: that is. My suspicion is that the committee is going
[38:59] Speaker 4: to roll, at least to some extent, what they saw
[39:02] Speaker 4: from Miami this week. Do they jump Notre Dame, do
[39:04] Speaker 4: they bounce Notre Dame.
[39:06] Speaker 5: There's gonna be some real.
[39:09] Speaker 4: Debate over what happens on the back end of that
[39:11] Speaker 4: college football playoff field. Yeah, but if seven to five
[39:16] Speaker 4: Duke were to win the ACC Championship, it opens up
[39:18] Speaker 4: the very real and almost likely possibility that the winner
[39:23] Speaker 4: of the American gets into the playoff. Maybe James Madison
[39:27] Speaker 4: gets into the playoff, Maybe the winner of the Mountain
[39:29] Speaker 4: West gets into the playoff, but I think it is
[39:33] Speaker 4: very likely that you would have two G six teams
[39:35] Speaker 4: getting in over the conference champion in the ACC only
[39:39] Speaker 4: if Duke wins. If Virginia wins, then it's probably a
[39:42] Speaker 4: completely different conversation. But just the fact that we are
[39:45] Speaker 4: going into conference championship week and that remains a possibility
[39:49] Speaker 4: is kind of wild.
[39:50] Speaker 5: In its own right. If I don't say so myself.
[39:54] Speaker 1: It's what it's gonna be. North Texas Tulane in the
[39:58] Speaker 1: American Championship Game. So Tulane was ranked. They were the
[40:03] Speaker 1: lone non quote unquote power conference team ranked in this
[40:08] Speaker 1: last College of Ball playoff rankings. So they're in a
[40:11] Speaker 1: position to be ranked ahead of Duke should they beat
[40:14] Speaker 1: North Texas. And I don't know, you can look at
[40:17] Speaker 1: James Madison in the A people, however instructional that might
[40:21] Speaker 1: be instructive. I don't know that might be in terms
[40:23] Speaker 1: of where the committee's heads might be at with you know,
[40:27] Speaker 1: how it relates to James Madison, who was going to
[40:29] Speaker 1: be playing for the Sun Belt next week. That's very real,
[40:33] Speaker 1: that's extremely real. And have Miami potentially get in not
[40:39] Speaker 1: even playing for the conference championship game, which we've seen
[40:43] Speaker 1: in the playoff, a team not playing for in the
[40:45] Speaker 1: fourteen version, not playing in the conference championship game, but
[40:48] Speaker 1: making it as not large but just a wild turn
[40:52] Speaker 1: of events Darien Mensa. By the way, it was a
[40:54] Speaker 1: good game for Duke, to be clear. Darren Mensa set
[40:56] Speaker 1: the single season Duke touchdown passes record with I think
[40:59] Speaker 1: twenty seven. So a good game for Duke in their rivalry,
[41:04] Speaker 1: their their comfortable rivalry win over well pseudo rivalry. They
[41:08] Speaker 1: beat up on Wake, right, But I mean, I don't know,
[41:13] Speaker 1: all things considered weird non conference portion of their schedule,
[41:16] Speaker 1: but Duke put themselves in a position and won a
[41:18] Speaker 1: bunch of ACC games.
[41:19] Speaker 4: Forty nine to thirty two was the final score. I
[41:22] Speaker 4: did see an interesting thought from our friendical hour back
[41:25] Speaker 4: from over at NBC.
[41:27] Speaker 5: Yeah, who said that the ACC should just override their
[41:29] Speaker 5: tiebreakers to put Miami through.
[41:32] Speaker 4: Put them into the conference championship as only college football
[41:36] Speaker 4: can do.
[41:37] Speaker 5: Let's do that.
[41:39] Speaker 4: Let's make it even more controversial. I endorse this plan, Nicole,
[41:43] Speaker 4: thank you for putting me.
[41:44] Speaker 1: Look, if there's if there's like a little amedman, if
[41:47] Speaker 1: there's a little is the word I'm looking for Cotta
[41:49] Speaker 1: sil Tie, I'm at the bottom of this small you've
[41:52] Speaker 1: ever heard cotta sil Never?
[41:53] Speaker 3: No.
[41:53] Speaker 1: I think my dad always threatened me with that whenever
[41:55] Speaker 1: I would do something wrong and'd be like, I'm gonna
[41:57] Speaker 1: change the will. I think it's an amendment, like if
[42:00] Speaker 1: there's like an at the discretion of the commissioner, little
[42:03] Speaker 1: fine print for the ACC to move forward with Miami. Obviously,
[42:07] Speaker 1: Miami is very clearly one of the best two teams
[42:11] Speaker 1: at this point, because, as Tie has been pointing out
[42:14] Speaker 1: all year long for a couple of years, now, we'll
[42:16] Speaker 1: know more by December. Tie, And here we are, here.
[42:20] Speaker 5: We knocking on the door almost in December. Baby, it's
[42:23] Speaker 5: gonna be December next week.
[42:25] Speaker 1: I can say with a good degree of confidence that
[42:28] Speaker 1: Miami is arguably one of the best two teams in
[42:31] Speaker 1: the ACC. How about that.
[42:33] Speaker 4: I'll go with that. Yeah, okay, I'll go with that.
[42:37] Speaker 4: Not much defense in the Duke Wake game. I was
[42:39] Speaker 4: watching that one because I was just curious to see
[42:42] Speaker 4: if Duke could obviously get the win or if Wake
[42:45] Speaker 4: could mount the charge. Because if Wake were to win
[42:47] Speaker 4: that game, it would have been what nine and three
[42:49] Speaker 4: finished the year nine and.
[42:49] Speaker 1: Three which would have been a great story.
[42:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, an incredible story, but four turnovers for Wake, they
[42:54] Speaker 4: had a bunch of fumbles. It just again they couldn't
[42:58] Speaker 4: really stop Duke, as he said dariy Man, So it
[43:00] Speaker 4: sort of went off in that game. Forty nine to
[43:02] Speaker 4: thirty two. Is your final again? Duke is going to
[43:04] Speaker 4: be playing for the conference championship again. We got a
[43:07] Speaker 4: bunch of other games here, Yes, we discussed momentarily, but
[43:11] Speaker 4: let's head on over to the Big twelve and highlight
[43:14] Speaker 4: what went down over there. We've got our conference championship
[43:19] Speaker 4: games set as Texas Tech against BYU as opposed to
[43:23] Speaker 4: many of the other games that needed Saturday's action to
[43:27] Speaker 4: tell us what's going to happen.
[43:29] Speaker 5: Who's going to play? When are they going to play?
[43:31] Speaker 4: We knew this one going into Saturday because Arizona State
[43:35] Speaker 4: lost the Territorial Cup on Friday night. Because of that,
[43:39] Speaker 4: it automatically put Texas Tech in BYU threw.
[43:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're going.
[43:44] Speaker 4: To have Texas Tech BYU part DUA coming up next weekend.
[43:48] Speaker 1: Kind of the most other than I guess the Territorial Cup,
[43:51] Speaker 1: which was exciting for a stretch, it wasn't great offensively
[43:55] Speaker 1: for four quarters, but kind of the most boring conference
[44:00] Speaker 1: in a good way. I say that as a complement,
[44:02] Speaker 1: like the teams that needed to take care of business
[44:03] Speaker 1: did so emphatically. A slow star for BYU, but otherwise
[44:07] Speaker 1: like kind of a good day for a lot of
[44:09] Speaker 1: teams to finish out their their schedules. Strong.
[44:12] Speaker 4: Let me let me get something off my chest here
[44:13] Speaker 4: for a second, if I could please. How long has
[44:16] Speaker 4: Brett Yormark.
[44:17] Speaker 5: Been running this conference?
[44:18] Speaker 3: Now?
[44:18] Speaker 5: How long has it been a couple of years?
[44:20] Speaker 1: Something like a few two three years?
[44:22] Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember came over with much fanfare from rock
[44:24] Speaker 4: Nation whatever it was.
[44:25] Speaker 5: Remember it was working with Jay Z.
[44:27] Speaker 1: Twenty twenty two, August first, twenty twenty two.
[44:29] Speaker 5: Twenty twenty two.
[44:31] Speaker 4: We've been putting up with a lot of crap from
[44:33] Speaker 4: this guy, and by that I mean just weird ideas, Okay.
[44:36] Speaker 1: Right, right, weird.
[44:37] Speaker 5: He's got a lot of good ideas, to be clear, Yeah,
[44:40] Speaker 5: many of.
[44:40] Speaker 4: Which I have supported every now and again. Though there's
[44:45] Speaker 4: a little too much Tony Petiti in him, all right,
[44:47] Speaker 4: where he comes up with something and he just he's
[44:49] Speaker 4: gonna he's gonna float.
[44:50] Speaker 5: It out there.
[44:52] Speaker 4: Sure, if he would put some of his time and
[44:56] Speaker 4: energy into fixing the Big Twelve's rivalry week instead of
[45:00] Speaker 4: trying to play games in I don't know, Brazil.
[45:03] Speaker 1: And Ireland this year, yeah.
[45:04] Speaker 5: Wherever the hell.
[45:06] Speaker 4: If you would put a little bit more elbow grease
[45:09] Speaker 4: into fixing this week, the conference would be better for it.
[45:12] Speaker 4: Because we only had the Territorial Cup. Yeah, that was
[45:15] Speaker 4: all we had. We didn't have a Sunflower Showdown. We
[45:17] Speaker 4: didn't have farm again. That one was over in Ireland
[45:20] Speaker 4: early in the year.
[45:21] Speaker 1: We used to have Bedlum. Yeah, we didn't have Bedloe.
[45:23] Speaker 5: We don't have the Revivalry. We didn't have the Holy
[45:25] Speaker 5: War this week. Again.
[45:27] Speaker 4: Territorial Cup was nice. But take some time in the
[45:31] Speaker 4: offseason see what you can. Talk to your member institutions
[45:35] Speaker 4: and see if there is some way to get in
[45:37] Speaker 4: on this party. Because I hate to see the most
[45:41] Speaker 4: exciting conference, the Big Twelve, that is always in fux,
[45:44] Speaker 4: that is always up in the air, that is always
[45:46] Speaker 4: a ton of fun to watch the other thirteen weeks
[45:49] Speaker 4: of the season.
[45:50] Speaker 5: I hate to see them be completely left out.
[45:53] Speaker 4: And we got games like byu UCF. That's not a rivalry,
[45:58] Speaker 4: I know, but we get those special games games when
[46:00] Speaker 4: perhaps other conferences are having you know, are deciding to
[46:04] Speaker 4: play Mercer right that that the Big twelve is finding
[46:08] Speaker 4: space for themselves to play some of their bigger matchups
[46:11] Speaker 4: when perhaps we have some down matchups otherwise on the schedule.
[46:15] Speaker 1: I don't hate it.
[46:17] Speaker 4: TCU Cincinnati really got the blood flowing for you.
[46:21] Speaker 1: It was a good game for TCU's offense. Complete game
[46:23] Speaker 1: for TCU.
[46:24] Speaker 5: Shut up, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
[46:26] Speaker 1: Brandon Sorosby is about to take like Texas tex money
[46:29] Speaker 1: next year. Who knows.
[46:31] Speaker 5: It was a good game for TCU.
[46:33] Speaker 4: They had two thirty eight on the ground to go
[46:35] Speaker 4: along with three hundred yards for Josh Hoover.
[46:38] Speaker 1: Anyway, listen, they had a tough schedule and they finished
[46:41] Speaker 1: what eight and four this year and four?
[46:42] Speaker 5: That's the end of my rant.
[46:43] Speaker 4: Brett, you or Mark, I know you don't listen, but
[46:45] Speaker 4: if you do, please see if you can fix this.
[46:47] Speaker 4: Texas Tech one forty nine to ZIP over West Virginia.
[46:51] Speaker 4: They left no doubt and BYU won by twenty over UCF.
[46:55] Speaker 4: UCF jumped out to an early lead. They were up
[46:57] Speaker 4: fourteen zip in this one, but then by you sort
[47:00] Speaker 4: of woke up. They outscored them forty one to seven.
[47:03] Speaker 4: The rest of the way, you seef just could not run.
[47:06] Speaker 4: They had forty two yards and nineteen carries. David Jackson
[47:10] Speaker 4: had an okay game. It's year one, had some fun motes,
[47:14] Speaker 4: but I think all things considered, UCF had a better
[47:17] Speaker 4: year than many had expected.
[47:18] Speaker 5: But they were no match for BYU in this game.
[47:20] Speaker 1: No, Yeah, bear Bachmeyer lit them up.
[47:22] Speaker 5: How do we feel about this rematch next week.
[47:26] Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to give it some thought, but I'm
[47:28] Speaker 1: not sure what Texas Tech has shown in terms of
[47:32] Speaker 1: a weakness that can be exploited in a more dramatic
[47:36] Speaker 1: way than what BYU wasn't able to do last time
[47:39] Speaker 1: they played. But I'm going to give it some thought.
[47:41] Speaker 1: I'm going to rewatch some BYU and see if I
[47:43] Speaker 1: feel differently.
[47:45] Speaker 4: Okay, now that we have covered the tops of the conferences,
[47:49] Speaker 4: let's go back through. Let's make a second pass here,
[47:53] Speaker 4: and let's talk about some other games that had importance.
[47:57] Speaker 1: There's a bunch of playoff teams potentially who played we
[48:00] Speaker 1: haven't discussed.
[48:01] Speaker 4: I will circle back to the SEC now because the
[48:03] Speaker 4: one that I was watching intently and the game that
[48:07] Speaker 4: again for me just speaking as somebody who is a
[48:10] Speaker 4: Notre Dame fan. Well, no, Notre Dame fan. Oklahoma seventeen
[48:14] Speaker 4: LSU thirteen was a game that I was yelling about. However,
[48:20] Speaker 4: you thought this game was gonna go, it was at
[48:26] Speaker 4: least twenty five percent uglier. Yeah, this was a horrible
[48:32] Speaker 4: viewing experience this game. It felt like both schools joined
[48:35] Speaker 4: the Big Ten West from twenty seventeen from twenty seventy.
[48:40] Speaker 4: I hated this game. I hate watched the whole thing.
[48:44] Speaker 5: Huh. It was ugly, but Oklahoma got it done.
[48:48] Speaker 4: Three picks for John Mattier. He came through in the clutch,
[48:50] Speaker 4: He had the big throw late. It was really just
[48:52] Speaker 4: two big plays for Oklahoma. Dan They had the long
[48:55] Speaker 4: catch and run to Dion Burks earlier in the fourth quarter,
[48:59] Speaker 4: and then the busted coverage the fifty eight yard touchdown
[49:02] Speaker 4: pass from Matier to Isaiah Stana with four minutes left
[49:05] Speaker 4: that gave them the late lead. Yeah, but it was
[49:08] Speaker 4: a mistake prone game for Oklahoma. They're going to end
[49:12] Speaker 4: up hosting a playoff game now. I think, unless the
[49:16] Speaker 4: committee decides they should be jumped by some of the
[49:18] Speaker 4: teams behind them. But I and I hate to do
[49:21] Speaker 4: this because they just won and this was like a
[49:23] Speaker 4: moment of triumph. They end up going ten to two
[49:25] Speaker 4: against an incredible schedule. Yeah, I mean, there is a
[49:28] Speaker 4: lot to like about Oklahoma, so we should probably start
[49:31] Speaker 4: there before I give my other thoughts on the.
[49:33] Speaker 1: Seat Michigan and then you know, scheduled a big non
[49:36] Speaker 1: conference game, right Michigan at home?
[49:38] Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a very very big moment for the
[49:40] Speaker 4: Oklahoma Sooners, and I do not want to be the
[49:42] Speaker 4: guy that throws cold water on it right away.
[49:44] Speaker 1: Okay, pepe Bama?
[49:45] Speaker 4: Yeah, So what say you about what we saw from Oklahoma,
[49:49] Speaker 4: not just in this game, but throughout the course of
[49:52] Speaker 4: the season. Has this team gotten better to you as
[49:55] Speaker 4: we have watched them over the last six weeks or so.
[49:57] Speaker 1: I enjoy that they're self aware. I enjoy that they
[50:00] Speaker 1: know how they have to win and steer into that
[50:03] Speaker 1: they know that they have to win by abusing teams
[50:07] Speaker 1: on defense, forcing mistakes, giving themselves short fields, and hopefully
[50:12] Speaker 1: setting up John Mattier to not throw potentially backbreaking interceptions, yes,
[50:17] Speaker 1: which he can do and has done this season, sometimes
[50:21] Speaker 1: with a working hands, sometimes less. So you know what
[50:25] Speaker 1: I in rewatching this game. I watched it on and
[50:27] Speaker 1: off when other games were on, because I want to say,
[50:30] Speaker 1: this game was happening while Oregon Washington was going, so
[50:32] Speaker 1: I was obviously I had a more focused eye on
[50:34] Speaker 1: that one. But something I came back to was like, man,
[50:39] Speaker 1: it wasn't that long a though, that both of these
[50:41] Speaker 1: long ago, that both of these schools had incredible quarterbacks repeatedly.
[50:48] Speaker 1: And He's like, I'm watching an Oklahoma LSU game, and
[50:51] Speaker 1: this is the quarterback play I'm getting with John Mattier
[50:54] Speaker 1: and MVB.
[50:55] Speaker 4: The sen tools of Matier had three picks, but he
[50:57] Speaker 4: had good numbers otherwise. He did come through in the clubs.
[51:00] Speaker 4: They were bad picks, though, Man, they were bad picks.
[51:02] Speaker 4: But in the end, in the end, he did what
[51:05] Speaker 4: he does and he got the job done. He came
[51:07] Speaker 4: through in the clutch and ended up winning the game,
[51:09] Speaker 4: which is all that matters, you know.
[51:11] Speaker 1: And I mean, he is he's your what, he's your
[51:13] Speaker 1: Duff Beer quarterback of the Year. He is the cause
[51:16] Speaker 1: of and solution for all of Oklahoma's offensive products.
[51:19] Speaker 5: I don't think that's fair.
[51:21] Speaker 1: No, I mean, look, the offensive line still isn't great.
[51:23] Speaker 1: The receivers still aren't consistent. The running game came and
[51:26] Speaker 1: went this season. But if you're capable of throwing three
[51:29] Speaker 1: interceptions in a big game and those were on him,
[51:32] Speaker 1: I mean there was a tip ball that I think
[51:34] Speaker 1: Harold Perkins ran back almost all the way. But he's
[51:38] Speaker 1: very good. He makes plays, he's you know, maximizing what
[51:42] Speaker 1: the Oklahoma offense has. But at the same time he
[51:47] Speaker 1: has clunkers, and so there were opportunities for MVB and
[51:51] Speaker 1: the LS. Like, he just was late, he's short. He
[51:54] Speaker 1: was late on some open passes that you know, the
[51:57] Speaker 1: one in the end zone, he had an open tight
[51:58] Speaker 1: end running and just was and got picked I think
[52:00] Speaker 1: by Peyton Bowen. This quarterback play was not incredible in
[52:05] Speaker 1: this game. I was impressed with the LSU defense, honestly
[52:08] Speaker 1: that as a team, given everything that's ongoing behind the scenes,
[52:14] Speaker 1: given everything that happened behind the scenes this season, like
[52:17] Speaker 1: still played pretty hard, ran the ball decently well at times.
[52:20] Speaker 1: But it was a winnable moment for them. But Oklahoma is,
[52:25] Speaker 1: like the consummate winning, is a skill team, it seems,
[52:29] Speaker 1: given their schedule this.
[52:30] Speaker 5: Year, well listen, and that deserves some praise.
[52:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think Brent vannables the way he pieces
[52:35] Speaker 4: roster together and especially against his schedule. I was, you know,
[52:38] Speaker 4: I was talking to somebody earlier about this, and it's
[52:42] Speaker 4: it's sort of mind blowing now in hindsight, thinking back
[52:46] Speaker 4: to the conversations we had when we previewed the SEC
[52:49] Speaker 4: in August, and I remember looking at Oklahoma's schedule and thinking,
[52:53] Speaker 4: there is no way, there is no way, even if
[52:56] Speaker 4: they get fifty percent better, there is no way they
[53:00] Speaker 4: are ripping through this and they're going to have a
[53:03] Speaker 4: real shot at playing for anything of real merit. You know,
[53:06] Speaker 4: Bowl game for sure, but the playoff, you know, on
[53:09] Speaker 4: the fringes of the SEC conference discussion, no chance. But
[53:13] Speaker 4: they found a way to do it. So I credit
[53:15] Speaker 4: them for that. I just don't think they're that good.
[53:17] Speaker 4: Dan Well, I just don't think they're that good. I
[53:20] Speaker 4: think they're very.
[53:21] Speaker 5: Limited on offense. I think the defense is legit.
[53:24] Speaker 4: There's no denying that is a very very good defense,
[53:27] Speaker 4: and that has clearly taken them places.
[53:30] Speaker 5: But I don't think they're that good.
[53:32] Speaker 4: And when it comes time to pick against them in
[53:34] Speaker 4: the playoff, I will.
[53:35] Speaker 1: The offense, once again, we've hammered this. I've hammered this.
[53:38] Speaker 1: Did not score thirty points in an SEC game this year. No,
[53:41] Speaker 1: And they're going to the playoff.
[53:43] Speaker 5: They're going to the playoff, and they deserve to be
[53:44] Speaker 5: the playoffs.
[53:45] Speaker 1: That's just the degree of difficulty. That's a high wire act.
[53:48] Speaker 4: I'm not saying they don't deserve it. I'm just saying,
[53:49] Speaker 4: once they get there, I'm not picking them to win.
[53:51] Speaker 1: Right, Okay, fair enough.
[53:54] Speaker 4: All Miss also won. This game was of course clouded
[53:58] Speaker 4: by all the Lane Kiff and stuff. We get a
[54:00] Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin update, Dan.
[54:02] Speaker 1: Oh, yes, I'm told there was a call to Lane
[54:05] Speaker 1: Kiffin's house. It was an HVAC repair guy. They were
[54:08] Speaker 1: trying to schedule something.
[54:10] Speaker 4: But he is which house, the one that he's got
[54:12] Speaker 4: now in Oxford or the one that he might buy
[54:14] Speaker 4: in Baton Rouge.
[54:16] Speaker 1: Oh, it's the Oxford house. So he's unsure how to
[54:19] Speaker 1: proceed because you know, it does get a little chilly
[54:21] Speaker 1: in the winter. Yeah.
[54:22] Speaker 4: Thirty eight to nineteen, Old Miss doubles up on Mississippi State.
[54:28] Speaker 5: Mississippi State was feistyep for a bit.
[54:31] Speaker 4: In this game, but eventually, through the course of sixty minutes,
[54:33] Speaker 4: it was clear that Old Miss was a better team.
[54:35] Speaker 4: They just gradually pulled away. I don't have my boat
[54:39] Speaker 4: race sound. I probably should have been more prepared, but
[54:41] Speaker 4: this felt like a boat racing to me.
[54:43] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[54:44] Speaker 1: Eventually it was Trinidad Chambliss sort of an up and
[54:48] Speaker 1: down day. Made some huge throws, missed some throws, but
[54:51] Speaker 1: what he was able to do through the air. Kiwan
[54:53] Speaker 1: Lacy obviously paced this one, especially in the second half.
[54:58] Speaker 1: I want to say Trey Wallace had a couple of
[54:59] Speaker 1: big ca de Jehn stribbling, the Oklahoma State transfer had
[55:02] Speaker 1: a couple of big moments. It was just very clear
[55:06] Speaker 1: that Ole miss had more in this second half, as
[55:10] Speaker 1: they quite literally ran away with it. It was a
[55:12] Speaker 1: game though, it was what twenty one to thirteen in
[55:14] Speaker 1: the third quarter, but it was just sort of an
[55:17] Speaker 1: again again, again again and Mississippi State pretty clearly ran
[55:21] Speaker 1: out of gas.
[55:22] Speaker 5: They ran out of gas.
[55:23] Speaker 4: It was a really good game for Trinidad Chamblis, who
[55:25] Speaker 4: had three fifty nine and four touchdowns. It did see
[55:28] Speaker 4: some rumors out there that if Lane decides he's going
[55:30] Speaker 4: to go elsewhere, Trinidad Chambliss could follow him. I think
[55:34] Speaker 4: he can petition the NC DOUBLEA and still get another
[55:36] Speaker 4: year of eligibility if memory serves So, there was.
[55:39] Speaker 1: A Camaro Taylor game, by the way for.
[55:41] Speaker 5: To Mario Taylor Mississippi State.
[55:43] Speaker 4: I thought had some nice flashes in this game that
[55:47] Speaker 4: left me feeling pretty encouraged about what his.
[55:49] Speaker 5: Future could look like.
[55:50] Speaker 4: So ran, well, yeah, I mean, there are a lot
[55:52] Speaker 4: of talking points that I think are going to come
[55:54] Speaker 4: out of this one, really on both sides of it.
[55:56] Speaker 4: Chief among them, though, is going to be the kiff
[55:58] Speaker 4: and stuff, and we'll have to wait to see what transpires. Look,
[56:02] Speaker 4: we're recording this late on Sunday night. We don't have
[56:05] Speaker 4: an update other than to say there's going to be
[56:07] Speaker 4: a team meeting. My hunch Dan is that he is gone.
[56:11] Speaker 4: Otherwise they wouldn't have dragged this out as long as
[56:13] Speaker 4: they have. It sounds as though the sticking point was
[56:16] Speaker 4: he wants to coach him in the playoff. I don't
[56:20] Speaker 4: know how you coached two teams at once. That could
[56:23] Speaker 4: be kind of hard, especially.
[56:26] Speaker 1: Is it weird? Do you think that's strange? If the
[56:29] Speaker 1: LSU coach is just in the Ole miss facility, everyone.
[56:32] Speaker 4: Understand where he's coming from. I understand where he's coming from.
[56:36] Speaker 4: But it is hard when you reach this level of
[56:42] Speaker 4: the absolute heights of the coaching profession to try and
[56:45] Speaker 4: get your cake and eat it too. And I'm not
[56:47] Speaker 4: sure how that's going to go over.
[56:48] Speaker 1: Is there somebody I don't know about who's making him
[56:51] Speaker 1: take the LSU job? Is that somebody that is he's
[56:55] Speaker 1: being held against his will and being forced to take
[56:57] Speaker 1: this job. He could just coach Miss. He could just
[57:01] Speaker 1: coach ole Miss in the college Football Playoff and continue
[57:04] Speaker 1: to be their coach for double digit millions of dollars
[57:08] Speaker 1: and an enormous budget to recruit players via the portal.
[57:11] Speaker 1: He could do that. He might still do that.
[57:14] Speaker 5: This is Lane Kiddy.
[57:15] Speaker 1: He's not, but I'm saying nobody's making him leave. He
[57:18] Speaker 1: could coach the playoff and be happy.
[57:21] Speaker 5: He absolutely could.
[57:22] Speaker 4: Look, we'll get more clarity on this, and as I
[57:25] Speaker 4: said earlier, there's going to be a team meeting bright
[57:28] Speaker 4: and early on Sunday morning. There's also going to be
[57:31] Speaker 4: plenty of other coaching news out there. I don't even
[57:33] Speaker 4: think that's a debate. So we will do our part
[57:36] Speaker 4: here to keep you up to speed on the situation.
[57:40] Speaker 4: At a minimum, you can listen to the Tuesday episode
[57:42] Speaker 4: where I think we're going to recap a bunch of
[57:44] Speaker 4: this stuff and talk through playoff scenarios and a bunch
[57:46] Speaker 4: of other odds and ends throughout the course of I
[57:50] Speaker 4: guess the next forty eight hours what transpires. Yeah, Ole
[57:53] Speaker 4: miss with a big win again. Thirty eight to nineteen
[57:56] Speaker 4: was your final. The only other game here that I
[57:58] Speaker 4: wanted to pay a little bit more attention to is
[58:02] Speaker 4: Vanderbilt commodore s Dan.
[58:03] Speaker 1: In the SEC.
[58:04] Speaker 4: To be clear, Yeah, in the SEC Vandy wins forty
[58:07] Speaker 4: five to twenty four over Tennessee on the road. Yes,
[58:11] Speaker 4: they outscored Tennessee twenty four to three in the second half.
[58:14] Speaker 4: A ton of offense for both teams, with Diego Pavia.
[58:17] Speaker 5: Again goes off.
[58:19] Speaker 4: Guy's incredible. He is incredible, And this was an incredible win.
[58:25] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it was super impressive. He goes over one
[58:28] Speaker 1: hundred yards rushing, Cedric Alexander goes over one hundred yards rushing,
[58:32] Speaker 1: throws a couple of bad picks. I was trying to
[58:36] Speaker 1: think of the word that best encapsulates in my mind
[58:38] Speaker 1: when I watched Diego Pavia. I mean, Tennessee's defense hasn't
[58:41] Speaker 1: been great this season. Obviously, they've dealt with a ton
[58:44] Speaker 1: of attrition and it's affected the way that they've been
[58:47] Speaker 1: able to perform against the better teams on their schedule.
[58:49] Speaker 1: Diego Pavi is a menace. No, he is just a menace.
[58:54] Speaker 1: He's horrendous to try and bring down. Keeps making play
[58:57] Speaker 1: after play and high leverage moments. Did so again today
[59:01] Speaker 1: and Vandy really, I mean defensively, that's been the question
[59:05] Speaker 1: right that they allowed what they allowed to Auburn. But
[59:09] Speaker 1: I mean Deshaun was it? Who was it? The Tennessee
[59:13] Speaker 1: Backs made plays in that first half. It was Deshaun
[59:15] Speaker 1: Bishoh excuse me, Yeah, but the great I think he
[59:18] Speaker 1: sort of hurtled and had a great run for a touchdown.
[59:22] Speaker 1: The Vanderbilt defense really clamped in the second half. And
[59:26] Speaker 1: that's been the question mark, right with what they allowed
[59:28] Speaker 1: against Texas and Austin, what they allowed against Auburn when
[59:31] Speaker 1: Ashton Daniels took over, and for them to do this
[59:33] Speaker 1: and make the adjustments they did against Joey Aguilar and Tennessee,
[59:37] Speaker 1: that answered an interesting question to me about like what
[59:40] Speaker 1: Vanderbilt can look like against a decent team that can
[59:44] Speaker 1: move the ball pretty consistently. And Vandy came to play,
[59:47] Speaker 1: and this was on the road too.
[59:48] Speaker 4: This was on the road, and look, Pavia is a
[59:52] Speaker 4: really interesting character in the college football.
[59:55] Speaker 5: Story over the last two year.
[59:56] Speaker 2: Men.
[59:57] Speaker 5: Yeah, he is a menace.
[59:58] Speaker 4: He is the type of guy where if he is
[1:00:01] Speaker 4: on your team, you love him. If he is not
[1:00:03] Speaker 4: on your team and you are playing his team, you
[1:00:06] Speaker 4: hate his guts. Yes, he is that type of guy.
[1:00:09] Speaker 4: But he is a menace and he does deserve to
[1:00:12] Speaker 4: be in New York. I don't know if he deserves
[1:00:14] Speaker 4: the Heisman. We can have that discussion on Tuesday, but
[1:00:17] Speaker 4: I think he absolutely earned his way to New York. Yeah,
[1:00:21] Speaker 4: absolutely no question about that. Any other thoughts around the
[1:00:26] Speaker 4: sec DAN. We had a few other games. We had
[1:00:27] Speaker 4: Miszoo knocking off Arkansas thirty one seventeen. We had Florida
[1:00:32] Speaker 4: knocking off Florida State by a forty to twenty one score.
[1:00:36] Speaker 5: Any of those moved the needle for you.
[1:00:38] Speaker 1: I just didn't really watch much of those specific games.
[1:00:41] Speaker 1: I did see that Missoo ran all over Arkansas Boprabulah
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: through for like thirteen feet and they won by double digits.
[1:00:48] Speaker 1: So that was good for Miszoo. That's a game I'm
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: gonna watch Sunday or Monday morning sccwise. Now, I did
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: not watch Florida Florida State, and I saw, like right
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: away Louisville just absolutely smoked Kentucky.
[1:01:02] Speaker 5: Oh my god.
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: And it's inter conference, But like, kind of good for
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: Clemson for winning this game against South Carolina at least
[1:01:10] Speaker 1: ended on a high note after a disappointing season, especially
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: the start of it. So yeah, I watched a little
[1:01:16] Speaker 1: bit of that on the second screen, a little bit
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: of Miller Moss coming back and playing well. Obviously Louisville's
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: dealt with a ton of injuries as well that they're
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: able to close the season like they did. So no, no,
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: no in depth thoughts in this moment. Didn't watch a ton.
[1:01:30] Speaker 4: My takeaway after what we saw this evening is that
[1:01:33] Speaker 4: if Kentucky had played Virginia Tech, that game would still
[1:01:37] Speaker 4: be in overtime with the zero to zero score.
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, those are.
[1:01:41] Speaker 4: Two teams that did not look at all like they
[1:01:43] Speaker 4: wanted to play this week, and I think the result
[1:01:46] Speaker 4: showed it.
[1:01:48] Speaker 5: That's pretty much my closing thought there.
[1:01:51] Speaker 4: You mentioned Louisville winning forty one to zip over Kentucky
[1:01:55] Speaker 4: over in the ACC you mentioned the Clemson game, but
[1:01:58] Speaker 4: we also had NC State knocking off UNCE. We mentioned
[1:02:02] Speaker 4: briefly that Cal knocked off SMU. That game was kind
[1:02:07] Speaker 4: of wild, and Boston College gets the win over Syracuse
[1:02:10] Speaker 4: thirty four to twelve.
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: I think we have some big ten things to talk about.
[1:02:14] Speaker 1: I've I've given you an hour and three minutes thus far,
[1:02:19] Speaker 1: ish and we haven't even mentioned Oregon Washington.
[1:02:22] Speaker 5: Fine, Fine, let's talk about Oregon wall.
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: We haven't mentioned Matt Ruhle being paid four hundred million
[1:02:29] Speaker 1: dollars to continually lose to Iowa.
[1:02:33] Speaker 5: Fine, let's go there. Okay, what do you got for me?
[1:02:37] Speaker 1: Uh? Good game, back and forth, game a little bit.
[1:02:41] Speaker 1: Oregon kind of controlled things on the scoreboard, but were
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: they were unable to sort of take advantage of opportunities
[1:02:46] Speaker 1: to open this up, in large part because Washington played
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: the run really really well. Organ was not able to
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: get anything going on the ground and Washington themselves were
[1:02:56] Speaker 1: able to get I think it was Adam Mohammad, it
[1:02:58] Speaker 1: wasn't even Jonah Coleman. Adam Haha look like he's been
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: playing for like the Chargers for four years. Yeah, he
[1:03:04] Speaker 1: looked like an NFL running back. He has not been
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: a huge deal for Washington this season. I think he
[1:03:10] Speaker 1: was a Jetfish recruit at Arizona who transferred up. But
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: he looked terrific, you know, slamming into the Oregon defensive
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: front and succeeding a ton. Dante Moore had to win
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: this game because they took away the run and he
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: had to win this game with Kenyon Sadik with a
[1:03:26] Speaker 1: couple of drops and not a huge factor and obviously
[1:03:29] Speaker 1: no to Corean Moore and Gary Bryant junior. They're numbers
[1:03:32] Speaker 1: one and two wide receivers and made some incredible throws.
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: The Oregon defense came up big with some interceptions. One
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: of them was game ceiling. They hounded Demon Williams, who
[1:03:44] Speaker 1: seems to be untackleable maybe like he did an incredible
[1:03:48] Speaker 1: job evading the Oregon pass rush and defenders. But Washington
[1:03:54] Speaker 1: just didn't have the pop on offense, didn't have the
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: rhythm on offense other than what they were doing on
[1:03:58] Speaker 1: the ground for stretches in this game to finish drives.
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: Jedfish teams have notoriously been disappointing, to say the least
[1:04:05] Speaker 1: in the red zone, and it continued today and Orgon
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: got a ton out of their kicker. Your your favorite
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: name in the sport, Atticus Sappington.
[1:04:13] Speaker 4: Can't be a real name, seems to be, but I
[1:04:16] Speaker 4: can't confirm it that that can't be real.
[1:04:19] Speaker 1: Malik Benson was huge in this one. He had a
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: long touchdown catch. The Florida State transfer Jamari Johnson a
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: very good game tight end number two behind Kenyon Sadik,
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: and Oregon protected Dante More pretty well all things considered
[1:04:32] Speaker 1: with how their offensive line is beat up, and they
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: will secure somewhere between like the five and seven seed.
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: It seems right.
[1:04:41] Speaker 4: It does, and I do think depending on what the
[1:04:44] Speaker 4: committee ends up doing, and we talked about this on
[1:04:47] Speaker 4: one of the episodes from.
[1:04:48] Speaker 5: This past week.
[1:04:49] Speaker 4: Though it looked for a minute like the Solidver Bowl
[1:04:52] Speaker 4: would be off, I think there are real possibilities now
[1:04:56] Speaker 4: that the solid For Bowl between Notre Dame and Oregon
[1:04:58] Speaker 4: could be back on.
[1:04:59] Speaker 5: It depends in the seating.
[1:05:01] Speaker 4: I do think there's a real chance here that or
[1:05:03] Speaker 4: Penn State, Penn State's not going to be playing in
[1:05:05] Speaker 4: the playoff, that Notre Dame is going to get bumped
[1:05:08] Speaker 4: down to like number ten. Yeah, And if that's the case,
[1:05:12] Speaker 4: then it could open up the door for potentially hmmm,
[1:05:18] Speaker 4: sOliver Bowl in the first round between Notre Dame and Oregon.
[1:05:20] Speaker 4: Oregon would likely host that game, but I think it's.
[1:05:24] Speaker 1: As opposed to who as opposed to the Tokyo Dome,
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: as supposed to the I think Oregon. That's the five
[1:05:29] Speaker 1: seed playing against the ten. Yes, very interesting. I hope
[1:05:33] Speaker 1: we can watch it together in some way because we've
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: been waiting for this moment for seventeen eighteen years now. Yeah,
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: it'll be very interesting if Notre Dame makes the playoff,
[1:05:44] Speaker 1: which seems like they are as a conversation for another day,
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: but I'm hopeful that we get that matchup at some point.
[1:05:51] Speaker 5: So I am as well. Penn State and Rutgers is
[1:05:54] Speaker 5: kind of nuts in the big time.
[1:05:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, man, Penn State found themselves a quarterback.
[1:05:59] Speaker 4: I guess it might be eighth in caliak manis. But
[1:06:05] Speaker 4: Penn State won this game over Rutgers forty to thirty six.
[1:06:07] Speaker 4: Is a wild game. They beat Rutgers for the eighteenth
[1:06:10] Speaker 4: straight time. This game featured an absolutely absurd scoop and
[1:06:13] Speaker 4: score that gave Penn State the lead for good in
[1:06:15] Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. So eighth in kliak Mannis drops back
[1:06:19] Speaker 4: to pass for Rutgers straight up drops the ball, just
[1:06:23] Speaker 4: drops the ball. Amari Cooper or Mari Campbell, excuse me,
[1:06:27] Speaker 4: Marik Cooper, former receiver, different guy. Mark Campbell, the linebacker
[1:06:31] Speaker 4: for Penn State who's had a really good year after
[1:06:34] Speaker 4: he transferred up from North Carolina, picks it up, run
[1:06:36] Speaker 4: sixty one yards for a touchdown that gives Penn State
[1:06:39] Speaker 4: the lead in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, it was a
[1:06:41] Speaker 4: really good day for Kateron Allen had a career day
[1:06:43] Speaker 4: on the ground to twenty six is high for a
[1:06:46] Speaker 4: single game. Five hundred and nine total yards for Penn
[1:06:49] Speaker 4: State's offense. Friends were texting me throughout this one saying
[1:06:54] Speaker 4: fire Terry Smith fired Jim Knowles because the defense did
[1:06:58] Speaker 4: not play a very good game State, but we did
[1:07:00] Speaker 4: see a little bit more out of them on offense.
[1:07:03] Speaker 4: Penn State, by the way, has been relatively anonymous in
[1:07:06] Speaker 4: the coaching search.
[1:07:07] Speaker 5: We've been hearing a lot about these other.
[1:07:09] Speaker 4: Schools, about the likes of LSU, about the likes of Florida,
[1:07:13] Speaker 4: even the likes of Arkansas. What would Ole Miss potentially
[1:07:17] Speaker 4: do Auburn? Might they promote from within haven't heard a
[1:07:21] Speaker 4: whole lot about the Penn State Nitney Lyons and I
[1:07:24] Speaker 4: genuinely have no idea which.
[1:07:25] Speaker 5: Direction they're going to go. We've all heard rumors at
[1:07:27] Speaker 5: this point.
[1:07:28] Speaker 4: My hunch is that we're going to get some clarity
[1:07:30] Speaker 4: on that one before long, probably before Monday. But that
[1:07:35] Speaker 4: is sort of the elephant in the room right now
[1:07:37] Speaker 4: in the Penn State community.
[1:07:39] Speaker 1: I mean, Deon Sanders is right there, No, Deon Sanders
[1:07:44] Speaker 1: right there, Dan Hawkins, let's just go through Colorida and yeah,
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: let's go through the coaches. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Penn State
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: is Rutgers esque this year, and it's better to beat
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: Rutgers than to lose to Rutgers. Penn State is going bowling.
[1:07:59] Speaker 1: They gave their all for Terry Smith and needed all
[1:08:02] Speaker 1: of it to beat Rutgers, and winning is better than losing.
[1:08:05] Speaker 4: Once again, any other thoughts here on what went down
[1:08:09] Speaker 4: in the Big Ten. We had usc winning the Victory
[1:08:12] Speaker 4: Belt twenty nine to ten over UCLA.
[1:08:15] Speaker 5: We had an or.
[1:08:18] Speaker 4: A snowball game right between both Minnesota and Wisconsin as
[1:08:22] Speaker 4: well as I believe Northwestern Illinois Land of Linking game.
[1:08:27] Speaker 4: We had Michigan State, Maryland, I believe Michigan State won
[1:08:30] Speaker 4: that game.
[1:08:30] Speaker 5: I didn't see the final score before we hit go here.
[1:08:33] Speaker 1: Maryland loses their final eight incredibles and bringing Mike Loxley back.
[1:08:38] Speaker 4: And on Friday, Iowa absolutely destroyed Nebraska by a forty
[1:08:43] Speaker 4: to sixteen score.
[1:08:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, and was never truly that close. Mark Ronowski had
[1:08:48] Speaker 1: a complete game and Nebraska I did see that TJ
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: Latif I think tore his hamstring early on in this one,
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: which you never liked to see. No, but yeah, this
[1:08:59] Speaker 1: one was a frigid affair as well. And Iowa, you
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: pointed out, are like a dozen points from being undefeated,
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: Like they were very close when you look at how
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: close it was against USC, how close it was against Oregon,
[1:09:11] Speaker 1: how close it was against Iowa States. Who else am
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: I missing on Iowa's schedule loss wise?
[1:09:17] Speaker 4: I mean, look, it was four losses by a combined
[1:09:19] Speaker 4: fifteen points is what it amounts to.
[1:09:21] Speaker 5: So they were very good. And you know, I look, even.
[1:09:25] Speaker 4: Though it didn't quite go Indiana by five, Indiana by five,
[1:09:29] Speaker 4: that's right, twenty to fifteen. Even though it didn't go
[1:09:31] Speaker 4: quite as swimmingly as I expected with Mark Ronowski, Iowa
[1:09:35] Speaker 4: did pull together down the stretch, and I thought looked
[1:09:39] Speaker 4: much better on offense second half the season, either because
[1:09:42] Speaker 4: they were playing worse teams or because they were just
[1:09:44] Speaker 4: getting better, probably a combination of both, but good for them.
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: So they were they were a Trinidad Chambliss away from
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: going eleven and one. Crazy yeah elsewhere, Yeah, I mean,
[1:09:58] Speaker 1: I'll never like skim over Minnesota winning the acts, right,
[1:10:02] Speaker 1: I know you're doing a zoom call, a support call,
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: but it ends in a positive way for sky Yuma.
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: So that was a weather game you mentioned Northwestern, a
[1:10:11] Speaker 1: weathering game with Illinois and what's the Land of Lincoln Trophy.
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: Disappointing season given some of the expectations early on, but
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: Illinois going eight and four is never going to be
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: that huge piece of misery if you're an Illinois fan
[1:10:26] Speaker 1: in some of the depths to which Illinois has fallen
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: throughout the years. So good for Illinois for winning that game.
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: And you know, the USC UCLA game was somewhat close.
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: I think I only watched a little bit of that,
[1:10:36] Speaker 1: so maybe I'm wrong on that. We'll rewatch that one
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: later on. And I think that concludes my big ten thoughts.
[1:10:43] Speaker 4: Let's close things out here. I mean, I have much
[1:10:45] Speaker 4: else to discuss here. I want to talk about the
[1:10:47] Speaker 4: G five. We obviously have due alerts to do as
[1:10:49] Speaker 4: well before we let the fine people go. But just
[1:10:52] Speaker 4: to check back in on the Big twelve front, we
[1:10:54] Speaker 4: paid a lot of mind to text attack and BYU
[1:10:57] Speaker 4: and how by virtue of that, ASU lost their.
[1:11:00] Speaker 5: Going to be playing in the conference championship game.
[1:11:01] Speaker 4: But we had Utah beating Kansas in a game that
[1:11:06] Speaker 4: had some intrigue to it.
[1:11:07] Speaker 1: Oh man, Kansas had so many shots at that they.
[1:11:10] Speaker 5: Did, didn't they?
[1:11:11] Speaker 1: Yep?
[1:11:12] Speaker 4: Man, I was really surprised at how this game went.
[1:11:18] Speaker 5: I don't know.
[1:11:18] Speaker 4: I mean, they scored thirty one points, so it's hard
[1:11:20] Speaker 4: to look down your nose too much at them. But
[1:11:23] Speaker 4: I kind of expected a better performance, at least defensively.
[1:11:25] Speaker 5: Does that make sense? Is that fair to say?
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: Well, it makes sense when Kansas and Kansas State combined
[1:11:32] Speaker 1: to run for like seven hundred yards against this Utah
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: defense in consecutive weeks. I don't know what happened to
[1:11:37] Speaker 1: this Utah defense. Maybe there are a bunch of injuries
[1:11:40] Speaker 1: I am not referencing correctly here. That seems out of character.
[1:11:43] Speaker 5: I mean, I let me rephrase.
[1:11:45] Speaker 4: Yeah, the Utah defense did show up in this game.
[1:11:50] Speaker 4: They picked off Jalen Daniels three times. They had, but
[1:11:54] Speaker 4: it was it was a lot of bend but don't break.
[1:11:56] Speaker 4: They did for a ninety seven yard touchdown. Yeah, Kansas
[1:12:00] Speaker 4: tried to run the ball over and over again against Utah.
[1:12:03] Speaker 4: They tried to take a page out of Kansas State's playbook.
[1:12:07] Speaker 4: They ran the ball what fifty one times two hundred
[1:12:09] Speaker 4: nine yards something like that.
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, they two hundred yard rushers they did.
[1:12:11] Speaker 4: So it was it was sort of a lumpy performance.
[1:12:14] Speaker 4: There were some good, there was some bad. On the
[1:12:17] Speaker 4: Utah defensive front. They seemed to wear Kansas down and
[1:12:21] Speaker 4: they were clearly the better team. They kind of cemented
[1:12:24] Speaker 4: that over the course of the game. But in terms
[1:12:27] Speaker 4: of their playoff viability, it I don't know.
[1:12:33] Speaker 5: I kind of feel like it took a hit here.
[1:12:36] Speaker 5: That's just me.
[1:12:36] Speaker 4: Maybe that sounds fair to Utah and Utah people can
[1:12:38] Speaker 4: yell at me if they want, but I just feel
[1:12:41] Speaker 4: like with the other teams that are grouped in that
[1:12:43] Speaker 4: in that cluster of two lost schools, I this one
[1:12:47] Speaker 4: didn't move the needle much for me.
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: So they've only lost to the two teams playing in
[1:12:53] Speaker 1: the Big twelve championship game in Texas Tech and BYU.
[1:12:58] Speaker 1: Until these last two weeks, they've exclusively blown out everybody,
[1:13:03] Speaker 1: so they didn't finish strong. I think I'm with you
[1:13:08] Speaker 1: that when you look at Utah, it's very obviously they're
[1:13:12] Speaker 1: a very good team. But when you stack resumes, I mean,
[1:13:19] Speaker 1: they beat ASU, I think was that a Sam Levitt
[1:13:22] Speaker 1: game or was that a Jeff Simms game? That was
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: a Jeff Simms game, and ASU was a fringe top
[1:13:29] Speaker 1: twenty five team. Cincinnati's not going to be obviously losing
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: what they did at the down the stretch, so the
[1:13:34] Speaker 1: resume is just not going to be either. They don't
[1:13:36] Speaker 1: have a huge non conference win. I just think we
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: should look at Utah as a very good team that
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: is going to get leapt Over.
[1:13:43] Speaker 4: Lept Over the only other game that I want to
[1:13:45] Speaker 4: bring up here that that did something for me, and
[1:13:48] Speaker 4: I do want to go back and watch some of
[1:13:50] Speaker 4: the others here to get more of a fully fully
[1:13:52] Speaker 4: formed opinion on what transpired in the final week of
[1:13:54] Speaker 4: the year. But Houston thirty one Baylor twenty four was
[1:13:58] Speaker 4: a really fun back and forth game.
[1:14:00] Speaker 5: Yes, Houston pulls it off because they.
[1:14:03] Speaker 4: Were just better at executing when it really mattered. They
[1:14:06] Speaker 4: had four hundred and seventeen total yards. But obviously this
[1:14:09] Speaker 4: is a Baylor school that knows how to score, knows
[1:14:11] Speaker 4: how to put up yards on their own four to
[1:14:14] Speaker 4: twenty one for them. Houston ran the ball really well.
[1:14:17] Speaker 4: They had two hundred and sixteen yards. Connor Wegman was
[1:14:20] Speaker 4: a dude, had three touchdowns, two on the ground. Baylor
[1:14:26] Speaker 4: put a lot on Sawyer Robertson and he only completed
[1:14:29] Speaker 4: about fifty percent of his passes. So he's a good quarterback,
[1:14:34] Speaker 4: but they put a lot of strain on him to
[1:14:36] Speaker 4: go out there and win this one. He wasn't able
[1:14:38] Speaker 4: to get it done. A great season, by the way
[1:14:39] Speaker 4: for Houston, finishing this one out strong, winning by Baylor,
[1:14:43] Speaker 4: winning over Baylor by seven. Agree, Dan Rubinstein, I want
[1:14:48] Speaker 4: to give you a very brief G.
[1:14:51] Speaker 5: Six update if I can do so right now, Okay?
[1:14:54] Speaker 1: Are you also going to include the fact that Yale
[1:14:56] Speaker 1: scored twenty one points in the fourth quarter to beat
[1:14:59] Speaker 1: youngstown'st eight by one in the FCS plays on a.
[1:15:02] Speaker 5: Very long run.
[1:15:03] Speaker 4: Did you see that they kept showing the highlights they
[1:15:05] Speaker 4: kept showing the highlights throughout the course of the day
[1:15:07] Speaker 4: on ESPN.
[1:15:08] Speaker 1: Oh nice, Okay, continue.
[1:15:11] Speaker 5: The group of six.
[1:15:14] Speaker 4: Your American Championship is going to be between North Texas
[1:15:19] Speaker 4: and Twulane, North Texas, TWU Lane and Navy all one.
[1:15:24] Speaker 4: But it's going to be North Texas versus TWU Lane. Yes,
[1:15:29] Speaker 4: I'm excited about that matchup. Eric Morris is going to
[1:15:32] Speaker 4: Oklahoma State. We found out about that earlier in the week,
[1:15:35] Speaker 4: but sounds like both he Andrew Mestmaker at least going
[1:15:37] Speaker 4: to hang around for this.
[1:15:38] Speaker 5: That's good.
[1:15:40] Speaker 4: James Madison's going to play Troy in the Sun Belt
[1:15:43] Speaker 4: Championship game. They won fifty nine to ten over Coasts Carolina.
[1:15:47] Speaker 4: They're clearly trying to get some style points right now.
[1:15:49] Speaker 4: Bobby Chez Bob Chesney might be headed elsewhere. The rumor
[1:15:53] Speaker 4: is that he could be going to UCLA right hopefully,
[1:15:56] Speaker 4: if he decides to leave before any sort of postseason
[1:16:00] Speaker 4: James Madison won't be punished beause they're a fun team.
[1:16:03] Speaker 4: But who knows where It really gets interesting though, And
[1:16:08] Speaker 4: I say this especially now because of this duke circumstance
[1:16:11] Speaker 4: that I talked about at the top of the show.
[1:16:14] Speaker 4: The Mountain West Conference Dan Rubertstein, Okay, the mount West
[1:16:18] Speaker 4: Conference is going to be down to their third tiebreaker.
[1:16:23] Speaker 4: The third tiebreaker is made up of composite rankings across
[1:16:28] Speaker 4: the following analytics platforms, Sports Source Analytics, ESPN's Strength of
[1:16:33] Speaker 4: Record KPI rankings, and the Bill Connolly sp plus.
[1:16:41] Speaker 1: Continue.
[1:16:43] Speaker 4: We've got four teams and we'll fight out tomorrow who
[1:16:47] Speaker 4: is playing in this game. It is Boise State, it
[1:16:50] Speaker 4: is San Diego State, it is New Mexico, and it
[1:16:53] Speaker 4: is UNLV.
[1:16:54] Speaker 5: Among those four teams, we're going.
[1:16:56] Speaker 4: To find out who is playing tomorrow in the mount
[1:16:58] Speaker 4: West Championship. That really the only remaining matchup that we
[1:17:02] Speaker 4: do not officially know at time of recording.
[1:17:04] Speaker 1: Yes, New Mexico with a wild wind by the way
[1:17:09] Speaker 1: over San Diego State.
[1:17:10] Speaker 5: Wearing beautiful, beautiful lobos.
[1:17:11] Speaker 1: My beautiful Lobos wearing their dapper turquoise lucky.
[1:17:15] Speaker 5: I did like them.
[1:17:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, I have no idea how they're going to sort
[1:17:18] Speaker 1: all that out. So those are the two big things
[1:17:20] Speaker 1: tomorrow morning, Right, we get the Mountain West calculations and
[1:17:24] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin and Lane KIVN.
[1:17:26] Speaker 4: Do we have a Lane Kiffin update before we put
[1:17:28] Speaker 4: a bow in this one.
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin has put in his retainers and is going
[1:17:32] Speaker 1: to sleep.
[1:17:33] Speaker 5: It's about time. It's been a long day for Lane.
[1:17:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a really funny image. Lane Kiffin Like, all right, guys,
[1:17:39] Speaker 1: I got go, I got Mark Tanner for and I'm
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: done taking calls.
[1:17:43] Speaker 4: Any other action that you want to highlight here before
[1:17:45] Speaker 4: we get to do the lords to let these people
[1:17:47] Speaker 4: go to bed.
[1:17:49] Speaker 1: Across like the American or Sun Belt Ross, whatever you want, sir,
[1:17:55] Speaker 1: I don't think teams like Arkansas State and Louisiana won
[1:17:59] Speaker 1: their sixthxas State won their six to get to a bowl.
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: Your guy Jared Parker got to eight and four with
[1:18:05] Speaker 1: Troy pretty quietly. I mean we mentioned guy James Madison
[1:18:10] Speaker 1: won by forty nine points at Coastal. So the style
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: points seemed to be with JMU. Navy beat Memphis Thursday night,
[1:18:19] Speaker 1: not nothing. As Navy goes to nine.
[1:18:21] Speaker 5: And two, sev went on Thanksgiving Eve.
[1:18:25] Speaker 1: Yes, and so they would be eligible. Yes, they would
[1:18:29] Speaker 1: be eligible to the American Championship. And yet they will
[1:18:31] Speaker 1: still play Army in two weeks coreat so we have
[1:18:35] Speaker 1: that North Texas, as you mentioned, Drew Mestamaker went wild
[1:18:39] Speaker 1: as he normally does, and they beat up on Temple,
[1:18:42] Speaker 1: Tulane shut out Charlotte's UAB without Trent Dilferd beat Tulsa
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: so got to four and eight. That's something. Army beat
[1:18:50] Speaker 1: Utsa in the Alamodome, which we've discussed as being difficult,
[1:18:53] Speaker 1: and Army gets their sixth wins, so they'll go bowling.
[1:18:57] Speaker 1: USF not going to play for the American but they
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: beat Rice by forty nine as well, So you are
[1:19:02] Speaker 1: high on USF, and USF largely came through. Though they're
[1:19:06] Speaker 1: not going to make the College Football Playoff, it's something.
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: It's something to potentially win ten games and looks like
[1:19:13] Speaker 1: they're probably losing their coach in the process. Fresnel looks
[1:19:16] Speaker 1: like they're gonna get to eight wins. Hawaii looks like
[1:19:19] Speaker 1: they're going to get to eight wins. UNLV and Dan
[1:19:22] Speaker 1: Mullen's first year ten and two.
[1:19:24] Speaker 5: That's a nice that's a nice year.
[1:19:27] Speaker 1: I just we're also going to be talking about Dan
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: Mullen coaching candidate in a year from tonight somewhere else.
[1:19:36] Speaker 1: I think that's it. And Boise State was able to
[1:19:38] Speaker 1: manage to come back against Utah State on.
[1:19:40] Speaker 4: The road, if you've got anything else to say, of course,

[1:20:44] Speaker 4: we give out dood alerts to the individual, mostly individual
[1:20:49] Speaker 4: performances that move the needle for us every College Football Week,
[1:20:53] Speaker 4: Dan Rivalry Week.
[1:20:54] Speaker 5: Who did it for you?
[1:20:56] Speaker 1: Well, we got some suggestions. Obviously, will long time for
[1:20:59] Speaker 1: baller says Virginia Defense holding Virginia Tech to under two
[1:21:02] Speaker 1: hundred yards, which many middle schools might be able to do,
[1:21:05] Speaker 1: but Virginia also was able to do it. We got
[1:21:08] Speaker 1: a couple of nominations for officiating crews, including the Ohio
[1:21:12] Speaker 1: State Michigan replay official, the Iron Bowl officiating crew Ahmad Hardy. Obviously,
[1:21:19] Speaker 1: the dude of dudes had a sensational year for Miszoo.
[1:21:23] Speaker 1: Freaky Leak Malik Benson came through once again. He's had
[1:21:26] Speaker 1: a number of He had the huge catch for Oregon
[1:21:28] Speaker 1: against Iowa if you remember, he had a big punt
[1:21:30] Speaker 1: return touchdown against USC, and he had a big touchdown
[1:21:33] Speaker 1: to open up the game against Washington today. So most
[1:21:36] Speaker 1: certainly a dude Malik Washington in a losing effort against
[1:21:40] Speaker 1: Michigan State through for over four hundred and fifty yards
[1:21:43] Speaker 1: three touchdowns, unfortunately was now able to get it done.
[1:21:46] Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss for Ole Miss once again. How about Ethan
[1:21:50] Speaker 1: caliac manis just tip of the cap against Penn State.
[1:21:54] Speaker 1: Had some down years there for Minnesota, has revitalized things
[1:21:58] Speaker 1: for Rutgers. In that same game, k Tron Allen goes
[1:22:00] Speaker 1: for over two hundred yards. Camaro Taylor in a losing
[1:22:03] Speaker 1: effort for Mississippi State, thrust into a starting role and
[1:22:07] Speaker 1: goes for two hundred on the ground against Ole Miss,
[1:22:09] Speaker 1: who does not have a great rush defense, but all
[1:22:11] Speaker 1: the same, an impressive performance. Malcolm Simmons we mentioned for
[1:22:14] Speaker 1: Auburn and a losing effort goes for one hundred and
[1:22:16] Speaker 1: forty three yards. Isaiah Horton had those three touchdown catches.
[1:22:20] Speaker 1: Dudes across the sport. How about Jayden Ba Jaden baw
[1:22:24] Speaker 1: just kept running for a disastrously chaotic and bad Florida season.
[1:22:30] Speaker 1: Jaden Ba every week gave everything he had. He goes
[1:22:33] Speaker 1: for two sixty six in a winning effort in a
[1:22:37] Speaker 1: rivalry game, in a lame duck situation. Good for Jaden Ba.
[1:22:41] Speaker 5: Good for Jadenba.
[1:22:42] Speaker 4: If you got any of the suggestions again, hit us
[1:22:44] Speaker 4: up with social media or soliverbo at gmail dot com.

[1:23:09] Speaker 4: We're still working on the exact timing and schedule for
[1:23:12] Speaker 4: what we're going to do this time next weekend, because

[1:23:34] Speaker 4: for the time being, tuned back in on Tuesday, we're
[1:23:38] Speaker 4: going to go through I think a little bit of
[1:23:42] Speaker 4: more detail here over teams that exceeded expectations, teams that
[1:23:46] Speaker 4: made bowls, go through records over unders, things of that nature.
[1:23:51] Speaker 4: Just a little bit of a retrospective. Now that the
[1:23:53] Speaker 4: regular season is over, and of course we'll give you
[1:23:55] Speaker 4: the latest Lane Kiffin and coaching news.
[1:23:58] Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely can't wait more Lane.

[1:24:16] Speaker 1: going to be infuriated by that are going to be
[1:24:19] Speaker 1: so mild you can't even believe it. And head into
[1:24:24] Speaker 1: this very active time of this.
[1:24:25] Speaker 5: We have signing day, right, signing day.
