[0:31] Speaker 3: All right, we're still here. We're still talking about guns
[0:33] Speaker 3: and gun rights. I'm Tom Gresham. This is Gun Talk.
[0:36] Speaker 3: You can join us. Just give me a call at
[0:38] Speaker 3: Tom Talk Gun. That'll get you in here. It is
[0:41] Speaker 3: a true pleasure to bring in, I believe for the
[0:44] Speaker 3: first time. Eric Pratt from the Gun Owners of America. Eric,
[0:46] Speaker 3: I think this is the first time you've been on
[0:48] Speaker 3: the show, isn't it well?
[0:51] Speaker 4: I certainly don't want to contradict the host, Tom.
[0:54] Speaker 5: It is great to be with you. I do wonder well.
[0:57] Speaker 4: You know, now that I've hit my six decade, I
[1:00] Speaker 4: tend to forget more things than I remember. I could
[1:04] Speaker 4: have sworn. I was on your show once before, and
[1:07] Speaker 4: it could have been with a sub possibly.
[1:11] Speaker 3: Oh that's possible. I may not remember, but then again,
[1:15] Speaker 3: I'm kind of like you. I don't know what I
[1:16] Speaker 3: had for dinner yesterday, so who knows.
[1:20] Speaker 4: It has been a few years, so it is good
[1:22] Speaker 4: to be back with you.
[1:23] Speaker 1: Tom.
[1:23] Speaker 3: Well, it is Gunnurns of America. I mean, let me
[1:26] Speaker 3: just say, Gunnurns of America has been a gun rights
[1:28] Speaker 3: organization active for decades. You have authored some key books,
[1:35] Speaker 3: been named gun Hero of the Day, You've got books
[1:39] Speaker 3: for youngsters on Second Amendment. It just goes on and on,
[1:43] Speaker 3: and I will tell you I just want to throw
[1:46] Speaker 3: this out. I think just watching what you and GA
[1:52] Speaker 3: have been doing for the last five years especially, you've
[1:58] Speaker 3: reached a different level of involvement and cooperation with other
[2:02] Speaker 3: groups and actually just really moving things forward. We're just
[2:06] Speaker 3: we're in a different time now than we were before,
[2:09] Speaker 3: are we not.
[2:11] Speaker 4: It is an exciting time and you know, it's by
[2:14] Speaker 4: God's grace, and we've got a lot of folks at GEOA.
[2:19] Speaker 4: We've been able to put more people, you know, on
[2:23] Speaker 4: the field so to speak, lobbying and legislators and Congress
[2:27] Speaker 4: and the states beef up our legal process. So we've
[2:33] Speaker 4: been winning a lot of victories. I mean, Tom, I've
[2:36] Speaker 4: been doing this since nineteen ninety and you'll probably remember too,
[2:40] Speaker 4: because I think you were fighting the fight back then too,
[2:42] Speaker 4: and victories were very sparse back then. There were now,
[2:48] Speaker 4: you know, especially since the Heller decision, it is just
[2:51] Speaker 4: a new game. Games the wrong word. But it's a
[2:55] Speaker 4: whole new battlefield that we are on and we are
[2:58] Speaker 4: winning I think more victories than we're losing.
[3:02] Speaker 5: I know we.
[3:02] Speaker 4: Sometimes get frustrated with losses here and there, but we
[3:05] Speaker 4: are winning lots of battle and it's really exciting.
[3:09] Speaker 3: It's a good way to put it. It is easy
[3:10] Speaker 3: to get bogged down by the losses. And the battlefield
[3:13] Speaker 3: has changed as we have the Heller decision, we have McDonald,
[3:18] Speaker 3: we have ruined and so we're doing real well, generally speaking,
[3:23] Speaker 3: on the federal level, and so the anti gun industry
[3:26] Speaker 3: has come back in and said, okay, well we're going
[3:28] Speaker 3: to attack them on the state level. And now it's
[3:31] Speaker 3: like greatly increased the number of battles because we have
[3:35] Speaker 3: to go swat all of these flies in the various states.
[3:39] Speaker 3: That costs money for lawyers, and that kind of leads
[3:42] Speaker 3: me to one of the things I wanted to ask
[3:44] Speaker 3: you about. I am seeing cooperation between all of the
[3:48] Speaker 3: gun rights groups at a level I don't think i've
[3:51] Speaker 3: ever seen before.
[3:54] Speaker 4: I think you're right. We've been involved with other groups
[3:58] Speaker 4: Second Amendment Foundation, NRA, you know, as co plaintiffs in battles.
[4:04] Speaker 4: Certainly here you know, I'm here in Virginia. JUAS headquartered
[4:07] Speaker 4: in Virginia, and we've got a great relationship with VCDL,
[4:11] Speaker 4: the Virginia Civil Defense League, and we're of course fighting well.
[4:15] Speaker 4: In fact, we recently had a great victory against the
[4:21] Speaker 4: state Universal background check law, which really is just a
[4:24] Speaker 4: nice way of saying a ban on private sales that
[4:28] Speaker 4: you can't sell privately one to another unless you go
[4:31] Speaker 4: through a registration check. But we beat that here in Virginia,
[4:35] Speaker 4: and now together again we are suing challenging the ban,
[4:41] Speaker 4: and I think we've got a really good shot at
[4:44] Speaker 4: winning this under the Virginia Constitution and the Virginia courts
[4:49] Speaker 4: that we have. I think it would be a much
[4:51] Speaker 4: harder slog in the federal courts. Basically, it's lose, lose,
[4:55] Speaker 4: lose all the way up in this federal district that
[4:58] Speaker 4: we live in here in Virgini until you get to
[5:01] Speaker 4: the Supreme Court.
[5:03] Speaker 3: Well you also, and I don't want to bury this
[5:06] Speaker 3: because I think this is a huge story. Just in
[5:09] Speaker 3: this last week, you just had a major win on
[5:12] Speaker 3: this being in the business rule.
[5:16] Speaker 4: Oh, this is so exciting. Yes, absolutely, yeah, I mean,
[5:20] Speaker 4: you know, the big picture, we've had about ten major
[5:22] Speaker 4: legal victories in the last year, but the one you're
[5:25] Speaker 4: referencing may be the biggest one of the year. And
[5:29] Speaker 4: again this you know, we were just talking about the
[5:32] Speaker 4: private sale ban at the state level in Virginia. Well,
[5:35] Speaker 4: this was Joe Biden's private sale ban. It wasn't passed
[5:39] Speaker 4: by Congress, it was just an executive order. Of course,
[5:42] Speaker 4: it was really about registering every gun sale in the country,
[5:47] Speaker 4: especially private sale. And of course we should say, you know,
[5:51] Speaker 4: we're talking a lot about registration.
[5:53] Speaker 5: Let's just straight up say, what's the problem with that.
[5:55] Speaker 5: It's always a.
[5:56] Speaker 4: First step to confiscation, and that's why we need to
[6:00] Speaker 4: be so wary of this. So anyway, GUA sued the
[6:04] Speaker 4: ATF with the help of Attorney General Ken Paxton in
[6:07] Speaker 4: Texas back in twenty twenty four and we won an
[6:10] Speaker 4: initial injunction on that lawsuit, which the judge applied to
[6:14] Speaker 4: our members only. We were going for more than that,
[6:17] Speaker 4: but he limited it to our members, but Biden's DOJ
[6:21] Speaker 4: continued fighting it. Sadly, the current DOJ didn't fully want
[6:25] Speaker 4: to get rid.
[6:25] Speaker 5: Of the entire Biden rule.
[6:27] Speaker 4: They wanted to maintain a good part of it. So
[6:29] Speaker 4: we kept pursuing our lawsuit and the huge news this
[6:32] Speaker 4: is what you're talking about. On Friday, the judge struck
[6:35] Speaker 4: down the rule completely in our case, it's dead, completely dead,
[6:40] Speaker 4: not even mostly.
[6:41] Speaker 5: Dead like in Princess Bride.
[6:43] Speaker 4: Right, No, this rule is totally and entirely vacated, which means,
[6:49] Speaker 4: and this is what the judge said, the ATF is
[6:51] Speaker 4: not allowed to enforce this rule against anyone and so.
[6:57] Speaker 3: Explain the rules so people know what we're talking about. Place.
[7:00] Speaker 4: So you called it the engaged in the Business rule,
[7:02] Speaker 4: and that's officially what it was known as, which basically
[7:06] Speaker 4: meant that for most private sellers. You know, you want
[7:08] Speaker 4: to sell a gun to a neighbor or somebody at
[7:11] Speaker 4: a gun show, you're not a dealer. You're a private
[7:14] Speaker 4: seller in most cases. If you're going to get a
[7:17] Speaker 4: profit on that gun under the rule, you would have
[7:20] Speaker 4: to become a gun dealer, hence the name engaged in
[7:25] Speaker 4: the business. So it was forcing people to become gun
[7:29] Speaker 4: dealers and look very dangerous repercussions if you did not
[7:36] Speaker 4: become a dealer. I mean, the rule wasn't even enforced yet.
[7:40] Speaker 4: And we all probably have heard of the Brian Malinowski
[7:43] Speaker 4: situation in Arkansas where they charged his home in the
[7:47] Speaker 4: middle of the night, ended up shooting and killing him.
[7:50] Speaker 4: He wasn't accused of any crimes. They were just concerned
[7:54] Speaker 4: that he was buying and selling a lot of guns privately.
[7:57] Speaker 4: I mean, that's the danger of having a rule like this.
[8:03] Speaker 3: Right explained, Brian Malanowski was the director of the airport
[8:08] Speaker 3: in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a known quantity ever
[8:11] Speaker 3: in the community. You knew him. It's not like this
[8:14] Speaker 3: is a known bad guy. They knew who this guy was,
[8:16] Speaker 3: They knew where he worked, they knew he went to,
[8:18] Speaker 3: where he went to work, and how he got there.
[8:21] Speaker 3: And they could have just gone to his office and said, hey,
[8:23] Speaker 3: can we talk to you. No, no, no, We're going
[8:25] Speaker 3: to kick at his door in the middle of the night,
[8:27] Speaker 3: and when he thinks it's a home invasion and grabs
[8:29] Speaker 3: his gun, they kill him all because he was selling
[8:34] Speaker 3: guns privately without an FFL, which wasn't required. And now,
[8:39] Speaker 3: thanks to you guys, now we know it's not required.
[8:43] Speaker 3: With any luck, we don't have another Brian Melanowski incident.
[8:47] Speaker 5: Right well, and here's the good part.
[8:49] Speaker 4: With this victory in the courts, a future anti gun
[8:53] Speaker 4: administration might still want to bring this back, but they're
[8:55] Speaker 4: first going to have to deal with this court before
[9:00] Speaker 4: they can get back to rewriting executive orders. And I'll
[9:05] Speaker 4: say this too. You know, after our initial victory, and
[9:08] Speaker 4: this was a couple of years ago where they only
[9:10] Speaker 4: limited it to our members, you know that this is
[9:14] Speaker 4: just I think another reminder why it's really good to
[9:17] Speaker 4: keep you know, if you're a member of any gun
[9:20] Speaker 4: rights organization, keep your membership current.
[9:22] Speaker 5: And if you have one with you.
[9:24] Speaker 4: Know, anybody listening who has one with GI, keep it current.
[9:26] Speaker 4: Because we have about thirty lawsuits going on in more
[9:30] Speaker 4: than a dozen states, and when we win, that means
[9:33] Speaker 4: you are protected as a member. So when we want
[9:35] Speaker 4: an adjunction on distol braces, our members were protected. When
[9:39] Speaker 4: we won on universal background checks two years ago, our
[9:42] Speaker 4: members were protected. Now you know we've won this for everybody,
[9:46] Speaker 4: but in that interim, it's good to have that protection.
[9:49] Speaker 4: You remember the old American Express Commercial Right membership has
[9:52] Speaker 4: its privileges. That's kind of what it's like when you're
[9:55] Speaker 4: a member of a gun rights organization that's actively involved
[9:59] Speaker 4: in the cour It really benefits you that way.
[10:01] Speaker 3: It's insurance, absolutely, Eric, I got you. Hold on Steing.
[10:05] Speaker 3: I need to take a quick break. We're talking with
[10:06] Speaker 3: Eric Pratt. When we come back, I want to talk
[10:08] Speaker 3: about another thing that's happening. This is an event that
[10:11] Speaker 3: GOA is holding and it's exciting and you may want
[10:15] Speaker 3: to put this on your calendars. We'll be right back
[10:17] Speaker 3: with Eric Pratt from Gun Owners of America.
[10:30] Speaker 6: When Ruger set out to build the ultimate pocket pistol,

[13:14] Speaker 3: want to give us a call eight sixty six Talk
[13:16] Speaker 3: Gun or Tom Talkgun. That'll get you in here. I
[13:19] Speaker 3: want to talk a little bit more with Eric Pratt.
[13:22] Speaker 3: We've got an event coming up with Goals Our goa
[13:26] Speaker 3: the Gun Owners of America. By the way, you go
[13:28] Speaker 3: to gun owners dot org you find out more about it. Eric.
[13:31] Speaker 3: What is goals and what is this all about.
[13:35] Speaker 4: So it's a combination of a huge gun show with
[13:40] Speaker 4: also great speakers. GOALS stands for Gun Owners Advocacy and
[13:45] Speaker 4: Leadership Summit and this year it's going to be in
[13:48] Speaker 4: Des Moines, Iowa, August first and second. And yes, if
[13:52] Speaker 4: people go to gun Owners dot org and then you
[13:54] Speaker 4: just add a slash Goals g o A LS, you
[13:58] Speaker 4: can get information on the speakers and you know hotels
[14:03] Speaker 4: in the area. I should mention it's free for all
[14:06] Speaker 4: GOA members and don't think it's like, you know, you've
[14:09] Speaker 4: got to leave your kids with you know, the grandparents
[14:13] Speaker 4: or something like that. I mean, there is stuff for kids.
[14:15] Speaker 5: So it is.
[14:16] Speaker 4: Family friendly for the whole family to be there. Our
[14:20] Speaker 4: speakers this year, we are really excited. We've got shooters
[14:23] Speaker 4: like Lenna Mitchellik who's going to be there, also Brett Cooper,
[14:27] Speaker 4: she's a big influencer, and Fox News spokesperson Brendan Herrera.
[14:33] Speaker 4: Brandon last year announced his candidacy at GOALS and as
[14:39] Speaker 4: you know, he defeated that anti gun Tony Gonzalez down
[14:42] Speaker 4: there in Texas. So he's coming as basically the representative
[14:47] Speaker 4: elect because I mean, you know, there's really not much
[14:50] Speaker 4: of an opposition now that the primary was the race,
[14:55] Speaker 4: but then you know people like John Lovell and Chad
[14:58] Speaker 4: Prather and others. So we're really looking forward to It's
[15:02] Speaker 4: several acres of guns and accessories and a lot of
[15:05] Speaker 4: the top firms in the industry are going to be there, Brownels, Cannick,
[15:08] Speaker 4: Daniel Defense, PSA. So we'll be announcing more speakers and
[15:13] Speaker 4: more companies that'll be coming. If you follow us on
[15:16] Speaker 4: social media, or maybe if.
[15:19] Speaker 5: You want to get our emails gun owners dot.
[15:21] Speaker 4: Org slash subscribe. That way you'll get not only our
[15:25] Speaker 4: legislative emails, but also find out more about goals and
[15:29] Speaker 4: see what's coming up next.
[15:31] Speaker 3: It's August one and two. It's a Saturday and Sunday
[15:34] Speaker 3: in Des Moines, Iowa, middle of the country, a family
[15:38] Speaker 3: friendly event where you can go and get your battery recharged.
[15:42] Speaker 3: In terms of gun rights and activism and Eric, one
[15:47] Speaker 3: of the things I find is that there are a
[15:48] Speaker 3: lot of people who want to be activists for the
[15:52] Speaker 3: Second Amendment and don't really know how to be effective
[15:56] Speaker 3: because there's a lot of things you can do. You
[15:58] Speaker 3: can go postuff online, but all you really doing a
[16:01] Speaker 3: lot of times is making yourself feel good. It's not
[16:03] Speaker 3: really a way to move the needle or move the
[16:05] Speaker 3: ball forward a little bit, is it.
[16:08] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[16:08] Speaker 4: And I think that's one of the really exciting things
[16:11] Speaker 4: about this conference is that it is aimed at activating people. So,
[16:16] Speaker 4: you know, you talked about getting your batteries recharged. I mean,
[16:20] Speaker 4: it's you know, if you're a Christian, you think of
[16:23] Speaker 4: it as church, but it's like.
[16:25] Speaker 5: For gun owners.
[16:25] Speaker 4: I mean, because you really do come out of there
[16:28] Speaker 4: just being totally refreshed, just having been with like minded people.
[16:33] Speaker 4: But at the same time, we're trying to encourage people,
[16:35] Speaker 4: like for example, two years ago when we had the
[16:37] Speaker 4: big presidential election, the big push was, hey, there's ten
[16:42] Speaker 4: million gun owners that aren't registered. Go find three of them,
[16:45] Speaker 4: maybe friends, family, whatever, get them registered, get them to
[16:49] Speaker 4: the polls. And we heard back from people that had
[16:52] Speaker 4: a huge impact. People did that, and so anyway, that's
[16:57] Speaker 4: the kind of thing that this conference is aimed at
[17:00] Speaker 4: trying to do, is not just have fun, not just
[17:02] Speaker 4: have a lot of guns in gear, but also really
[17:04] Speaker 4: encourage people to make a difference.
[17:06] Speaker 3: Now it's one thing to say, yeah, I'm a Second
[17:08] Speaker 3: Amendment supporter, that's great, we need that, But what we
[17:11] Speaker 3: really need is people who work, and not just work,
[17:14] Speaker 3: but work effectively for the Second Amendment. And I love
[17:18] Speaker 3: your idea of getting people to go make sure their
[17:22] Speaker 3: friends are registered to vote. We got the midterms coming up,
[17:26] Speaker 3: and I cannot think of a more consequential midterm election
[17:29] Speaker 3: than what we've got coming right now.
[17:32] Speaker 4: I know, we almost get tired of saying it each
[17:34] Speaker 4: two years, right like this one is the most important.
[17:37] Speaker 4: I know what happens if the other side wins. The
[17:40] Speaker 4: other side who wants to take our guns. They've already
[17:42] Speaker 4: said what they're going to do. They're going to eliminate
[17:44] Speaker 4: the filibuster in the Senate. They're gonna slam all kinds
[17:48] Speaker 4: of gun bands through. They're going to pack the Supreme
[17:50] Speaker 4: Court so Heller and Bruin will be overturned. They're going
[17:54] Speaker 4: to add you know, like DC as a new state,
[17:57] Speaker 4: so they'll get.
[17:58] Speaker 5: Two new senators.
[17:59] Speaker 4: I mean, they are going to try to empower themselves
[18:03] Speaker 4: to never lose power again. And so it really is important.
[18:07] Speaker 4: You know, we have to keep winning every time. They
[18:10] Speaker 4: only have to win once and then they change the whole,
[18:13] Speaker 4: you know, the whole battlefield. I mean, so it's yeah,
[18:15] Speaker 4: we do need to stay active.
[18:18] Speaker 3: Eric, you said something in the middle there. I want
[18:20] Speaker 3: to make sure people didn't miss because it went by
[18:24] Speaker 3: in a hurry. But they're going to set it up
[18:27] Speaker 3: so they never lose power again. And what they're going
[18:31] Speaker 3: to do is it's not just like, Okay, we're very
[18:33] Speaker 3: in for the next two years. No, no, no. They
[18:35] Speaker 3: want to change the structure, the very structure of how
[18:40] Speaker 3: elections are done, the very structure of how the Supreme
[18:43] Speaker 3: Court operates, so that they literally will never lose power again.
[18:49] Speaker 3: If they can't lose power, because they will control all
[18:52] Speaker 3: the levers. This is and it's not like we're guessing
[18:55] Speaker 3: this is what they're going to do. They're actually out
[18:57] Speaker 3: in the open. They're saying, Look, this is exactly what
[18:59] Speaker 3: we're going to do. We are going to impeach the president.
[19:01] Speaker 3: We're going to pack the Supreme Court. We're going to
[19:03] Speaker 3: make sure that we overturn Heller and Brewin and any
[19:06] Speaker 3: other gun rights or decision. We're going to do anything
[19:10] Speaker 3: we want to, whether or not is actually constitutional, because
[19:15] Speaker 3: the only thing that matters to them is power.
[19:18] Speaker 4: That's absolutely right for them, that this is their church
[19:23] Speaker 4: is power controlling the levers of power, and so again
[19:29] Speaker 4: gun owners dot org slash goals August first and second,
[19:34] Speaker 4: if you're a GA member or you become a GA member,
[19:37] Speaker 4: it's free for you.
[19:39] Speaker 5: Just get there.
[19:39] Speaker 4: This is going to be a good time of encouragement.
[19:43] Speaker 4: But you're also going to just have fun, you know,
[19:46] Speaker 4: listening to the speakers and meeting a lot of good
[19:49] Speaker 4: folks that think like you.
[19:51] Speaker 3: And it's in the summer as kids for the most part,
[19:54] Speaker 3: are still all out of school. You can bring the family,
[19:58] Speaker 3: bring the kids. It's going to be a fun you know, Yeah,
[20:01] Speaker 3: they'll see the guns and all, but you're also educating
[20:04] Speaker 3: them about being a part of America and being a
[20:07] Speaker 3: responsible citizen.
[20:09] Speaker 4: Well, I should say that the activities we have for
[20:12] Speaker 4: kids also do involve a lot of educational activities for them,
[20:16] Speaker 4: so you're spot on with that. And by the way,
[20:18] Speaker 4: when you go to the site at gun owners dot
[20:20] Speaker 4: org slash goals to sign up, there's also add on
[20:23] Speaker 4: So if you want to attend the Women's Brunch or
[20:26] Speaker 4: the Hunter's luncheon or the Prayer breakfast, there's also an
[20:30] Speaker 4: outreach a brunch for which is our Latino outreach. So
[20:38] Speaker 4: I mean there's something for everybody there almost everybody, right,
[20:42] Speaker 4: So so check that out on the site too. We'd
[20:45] Speaker 4: love to have people come in and packing it out.
[20:47] Speaker 5: For those special activities.
[20:49] Speaker 3: And Eric, one of the things that you may not know,
[20:51] Speaker 3: but one of the things I've said for many, many
[20:53] Speaker 3: years is to everybody, you need to belong to more
[20:57] Speaker 3: than one group that people say, well I belong to Okay, great,
[21:00] Speaker 3: that's wonderful, and I'm glad that you do. But there
[21:03] Speaker 3: are a lot of different gun rights groups, maybe four
[21:07] Speaker 3: or five big ones, and you can belong to more
[21:11] Speaker 3: than one. It's like, well, I'm a member of SAFF. Okay,
[21:14] Speaker 3: that's good, nothing wrong with that. But you need to
[21:17] Speaker 3: belong to other groups because every group is important and
[21:22] Speaker 3: what GOA is doing is just as important as what
[21:25] Speaker 3: NRA or NSSF or SAFF or FBC and they're all
[21:29] Speaker 3: working together now. I mean, and I know I sound
[21:31] Speaker 3: like a broken record sometimes, but it's like, just get involved,
[21:35] Speaker 3: spend the money and support it, and look, I got
[21:38] Speaker 3: to scoot out here, tell them one more time about
[21:41] Speaker 3: goals and why they need to be there. You got
[21:43] Speaker 3: thirty seconds. Give it to them.
[21:44] Speaker 5: Absolutely.
[21:45] Speaker 4: So Gunowners dot org, slash goals.
[21:49] Speaker 5: That's where you.
[21:50] Speaker 4: Can check out the speakers, you can check out the
[21:53] Speaker 4: gun companies that are going to be there. It's really
[21:55] Speaker 4: important for maintaining and preserving our freedoms are liberties for
[22:01] Speaker 4: us and for the next generation. So come on out.
[22:05] Speaker 4: I'd love to meet you and look forward to seeing
[22:07] Speaker 4: you there.
[22:09] Speaker 3: Eric Prett, well done, Thank you, sir. I appreciate what
[22:11] Speaker 3: you're doing, and you're welcome back here anytime.
[22:14] Speaker 5: I appreciate it. Tom, thank you, all right.
[22:16] Speaker 3: You take care there you go, so des Moines August
[22:21] Speaker 3: one and two. Check it out. Might be worth going
[22:23] Speaker 3: to open lines now eight six six Talk gun What
[22:27] Speaker 3: are you shooting and what are you thinking about buying.
[22:38] Speaker 3: I've been posting a few things on too X over
[22:41] Speaker 3: the last few days because I'm down here at Range
[22:43] Speaker 3: Ready Studios at the Gun Talk headquarters, and every time
[22:46] Speaker 3: I get down here it's fun. I can go into
[22:48] Speaker 3: the vault and find things that they've been sent for
[22:51] Speaker 3: various TV shows and just basically content they're producing videos,
[22:58] Speaker 3: and sometimes I get to shoot some guns. Of course,
[23:01] Speaker 3: I grab a few run out of the range because
[23:02] Speaker 3: it's thirty seconds from the studio to the range outside
[23:08] Speaker 3: and one I shot I had not shot before. It's
[23:11] Speaker 3: called the arkon Arccho N put a video of it
[23:16] Speaker 3: on X shooting it incredibly low bore axis. The barrel
[23:22] Speaker 3: is very low close to the hand, which reduces the
[23:26] Speaker 3: leverage that it has to twist upward for muzzle flip.
[23:31] Speaker 3: So we're shooting this thing and just the muzzle rise
[23:35] Speaker 3: is almost not existent. It looks like a heavily comped gun,
[23:40] Speaker 3: although it's not. So that was my first time to
[23:42] Speaker 3: shoot that. And then we were shooting the Dan West
[23:45] Speaker 3: and DWX, which is just an amazing gun. It just
[23:49] Speaker 3: honestly makes it easy to hit stuff, really really well done.
[23:53] Speaker 3: And then we shot the Dan West and Guardian, the
[23:56] Speaker 3: little Commander forty five that they have. That was sweet.
[23:59] Speaker 3: So put a lot of pictures up there, some videos.
[24:01] Speaker 3: You might check it out over on X look for me.
[24:04] Speaker 3: I am at gun talk over there on X. Let's
[24:07] Speaker 3: go line five next with us out of Toledo, Ohio. Nick,
[24:10] Speaker 3: Thank you for you pay sence, you're on the air.
[24:12] Speaker 3: What can we do?
[24:14] Speaker 11: Hey Tom? I love your show and listen every time
[24:16] Speaker 11: I can.
[24:17] Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
[24:19] Speaker 11: I wanted to say a couple of things. One, it's
[24:22] Speaker 11: my birthday, today, Well, happy birthday. And it's also Donald
[24:26] Speaker 11: Trump's birthday. He's exactly eleven years older than me.
[24:30] Speaker 3: I'll be dying, okay.
[24:33] Speaker 5: And it's also Flag Day.
[24:35] Speaker 3: So did what are you get for yourself or did
[24:38] Speaker 3: somebody give you for your birthday?
[24:41] Speaker 11: I gave myself a three and a half on salmon.
[24:44] Speaker 11: I'm cooking on the grill right now.
[24:45] Speaker 3: I'm oh nice, We'll be over about half an hour.
[24:51] Speaker 11: That's what I heard.
[24:56] Speaker 3: So you got a story for the reason.
[24:57] Speaker 11: The reason I was calling was my to tell you
[25:00] Speaker 11: real quick. My dad, my uncle, and my Pa Poo
[25:03] Speaker 11: was my grandfather. In the early sixties went out deer
[25:07] Speaker 11: hunting up in Michigan and they went up and they
[25:10] Speaker 11: didn't catch anything. And when they came back down, they
[25:13] Speaker 11: saw a house that had a bunch of deer hanging
[25:15] Speaker 11: from the front of the porch, and they ended up
[25:19] Speaker 11: buying one because they didn't want to go back empty handed.
[25:22] Speaker 11: So they got back home and the lady said, oh,
[25:25] Speaker 11: that's great, great balls, we'll cut this up. They said
[25:28] Speaker 11: who shot it? And they all looked at each other
[25:30] Speaker 11: and they didn't know what to say, so they just
[25:32] Speaker 11: picked my uncle George, where did you hit it. They
[25:37] Speaker 11: hadn't thought about that, so they drove back up into
[25:41] Speaker 11: the country, pulled out a rifle, shot the deer on
[25:44] Speaker 11: the hood of the car, which was a late fifties car,
[25:47] Speaker 11: and they ended up screwing up the engine.
[25:49] Speaker 3: No, oh, my heavings. That's fine, home man. That's one
[25:58] Speaker 3: of those stories I'm sure has been tall many times
[26:00] Speaker 3: in your family.
[26:02] Speaker 11: Oh yeah, I love it. This is a perfect day
[26:05] Speaker 11: to try and get on the show, and this is
[26:07] Speaker 11: my first time trying to so well.
[26:09] Speaker 3: I'm glad you got in and I wish you a
[26:12] Speaker 3: happy birthday. You know, it's not too late to run
[26:14] Speaker 3: out to the gun store pick up something for yourself.
[26:17] Speaker 11: That's tomorrow's plan.
[26:19] Speaker 3: Okay, there you go. Appreciate it. Nick, congratulations, Happy birthday, sir.
[26:22] Speaker 3: Thanks for the call. Uh oh I got before I
[26:25] Speaker 3: get to Howard. I'll get to you in just a second.
[26:27] Speaker 3: I went into a Barnes and Noble yesterday and I'm
[26:30] Speaker 3: thinking that maybe somebody in the store has a sense
[26:34] Speaker 3: of humor. I put this picture over on X and
[26:37] Speaker 3: there's these two books next to each other, and you
[26:40] Speaker 3: got the one by the Supreme Court Justice Catanji Brown Jackson,
[26:48] Speaker 3: name of the book. The title of the book is
[26:49] Speaker 3: a Lovely one. And she's looking over her left shoulder
[26:54] Speaker 3: to the right because her book's on the left. And
[26:58] Speaker 3: then the book she's looking into. The book right next
[27:01] Speaker 3: to her is by United States Senator John Kennedy, and
[27:06] Speaker 3: he is looking the opposite direction at Supreme Court Justice
[27:10] Speaker 3: Catanjee Brown Jackson. And the name of his book, the
[27:14] Speaker 3: title is how to Test Negative for Stupid and Why
[27:20] Speaker 3: Washington Never Will. It cannot possibly be an accident that
[27:28] Speaker 3: these books are positioned as they are together there, So
[27:31] Speaker 3: whoever did that at Barnes and Noble, thank you for
[27:34] Speaker 3: the chuckle. I appreciate it. It was not missed. All right,
[27:38] Speaker 3: let's talk to Howard online one out of Ocalla, Florida. Hey, Howard,
[27:41] Speaker 3: you're on gun Talk. What's up?
[27:43] Speaker 12: Well, you asked earlier if we were correctors, and I
[27:48] Speaker 12: am not so much a collector as I am an acquirer.
[27:54] Speaker 12: So I've been acquiring for about twenty five years.
[28:00] Speaker 6: Aha.
[28:00] Speaker 3: Do you have a specific area that you like to
[28:03] Speaker 3: work within?
[28:04] Speaker 12: Well, I thought it acquiring, or I guess you could
[28:07] Speaker 12: say collecting HK. Heckler and Coke late eighties or pre
[28:13] Speaker 12: ban rifles. The ninety one's, the ninety three, the ninety fours,
[28:19] Speaker 12: and then I just kind of branched off into pretty
[28:23] Speaker 12: much every modern sporting rifle. And I've got a few
[28:28] Speaker 12: lever actions, and I want to thank you for telling
[28:32] Speaker 12: me to get a three point fifty seven lever action
[28:35] Speaker 12: because it really is a fun gun to shoot.
[28:39] Speaker 3: It really is, isn't it, especially if you shoot thirty
[28:42] Speaker 3: eight specials in it. They're just like easy to shoot
[28:45] Speaker 3: it just it makes you smile. They're just fun, yep.
[28:49] Speaker 12: And I took that to a PCC match one time,
[28:52] Speaker 12: and while my times weren't great, and I think I
[28:56] Speaker 12: irritated a lot of people, but I had a lot of.
[29:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's just not what we're using. Doesn't matter. Why
[29:05] Speaker 3: do you use that? Because it makes me happy. It's
[29:07] Speaker 3: as simple as that, Howard, Thank you so much. I
[29:10] Speaker 3: appreciate the call, sir. I do want to grab David
[29:13] Speaker 3: in Colorado online to Hey, David, thank you for your patience.
[29:16] Speaker 3: You have the floor, sir.
[29:19] Speaker 13: The you had mentioned a while back about five five
[29:24] Speaker 13: six compared to two two three, and I think at
[29:28] Speaker 13: that time you said you thought they should be separate,
[29:31] Speaker 13: but somebody was claiming they were okay to interchange, and
[29:34] Speaker 13: I want to know what your research found.
[29:37] Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, good question. I went and asked the right people,
[29:41] Speaker 3: and what I found. I basically I went and talked
[29:44] Speaker 3: to Jeff Hoffman at Blackhill's Ammunition. He said, look, he says, yeah,
[29:48] Speaker 3: I know you probably can change interchange them and get
[29:53] Speaker 3: away with it, but that's not smart. He said, you can. Obviously,
[29:57] Speaker 3: you can always shoot a two two three cartridge and
[30:00] Speaker 3: a rifle the chamber for the five five six. You
[30:03] Speaker 3: cannot do it the other way. You might get away
[30:07] Speaker 3: with it, but you shouldn't try it. Shooting a five
[30:10] Speaker 3: five six cartridge in a rifle chamber for two two
[30:14] Speaker 3: three you can end up with pressure issues. And so
[30:17] Speaker 3: there is a reason. It's about tolerant stacking and such,
[30:22] Speaker 3: but there is a reason to not indiscriminately interchage them.
[30:27] Speaker 3: So you can shoot the two two three in a
[30:29] Speaker 3: five five six, but you should not shoot five five
[30:33] Speaker 3: six and a two two three. And so if Jeff
[30:36] Speaker 3: says it, and this guy knows AMMO and knows ballistics
[30:40] Speaker 3: and he has his own ballistics lab, I believe it.
[30:43] Speaker 3: And he does a lot of work with the military
[30:45] Speaker 3: and with their firearms and their AMMO. So anyway, that's
[30:48] Speaker 3: the bottom line on that, David. I appreciate you bringing
[30:50] Speaker 3: that up so that I could get that out there.
[30:53] Speaker 3: I should have mentioned it sooner and just did not.
[30:56] Speaker 3: But there you go. And yeah, I have boltox and
[30:59] Speaker 3: right FALSEH chamber for two two three, and of course
[31:04] Speaker 3: a lot of the bulk AMMO less expensive AMMO is
[31:09] Speaker 3: actually five five six, and so I have to be
[31:13] Speaker 3: careful to make sure that when I am selecting AMO
[31:16] Speaker 3: to shoot in my bolt action two to three that
[31:18] Speaker 3: I don't grab five five six in my head. For
[31:23] Speaker 3: a long time, I've kind of just thought they were
[31:26] Speaker 3: about the same, and honestly I admit to being a
[31:32] Speaker 3: bit lackadaisical about it. Oh yeah, big deal, can't be
[31:36] Speaker 3: that that much difference. Well, yeah, there can be. It's
[31:40] Speaker 3: it's enough. And when people I know say, yeah, Tom,
[31:46] Speaker 3: you probably shouldn't do that, and here's why they've run
[31:49] Speaker 3: through the deal, go all right, I'm gonna change the
[31:54] Speaker 3: way I operate. So there you are. I mean, that's
[31:55] Speaker 3: the information. You do with it what you will, but
[31:58] Speaker 3: that's basically how it comes them. So we had a
[32:04] Speaker 3: caller earlier talking about his first nineteen eleven. He actually
[32:08] Speaker 3: got a twenty eleven, which I think it's happening a lot.
[32:12] Speaker 3: I think a lot of people are their first nineteen
[32:16] Speaker 3: eleven is actually a double stack nineteen eleven. We call
[32:20] Speaker 3: him twenty elevens even though that's a I think it's
[32:22] Speaker 3: a trademark term that Staccato owns, but it's become generic,
[32:27] Speaker 3: like kleen X, a double stack nineteen eleven, and people
[32:30] Speaker 3: are going, Okay, I'll get one of those, because I
[32:32] Speaker 3: don't want one of those nineteen elevens. That's single stack,
[32:35] Speaker 3: and that's old guy's gone. And then they shoot it
[32:38] Speaker 3: and go, oh, the old guys were right. These things
[32:42] Speaker 3: really are nice. Wow, they shoot really well. They have
[32:44] Speaker 3: a great trigger. I will say, however, that the CZ
[32:53] Speaker 3: dan Wesson DWX pistol. I love the way that Ryan
[32:58] Speaker 3: put it, because, of course, this is kind of the
[33:00] Speaker 3: c Z seventy five in nineteen eleven said, you know,
[33:07] Speaker 3: if a CZ seventy five and nineteen eleven got together
[33:09] Speaker 3: and had a wild night in Vegas, this would be
[33:12] Speaker 3: their love child. Yeah. It just feels good and shoots sweet,
[33:20] Speaker 3: and they have it in like a target version, and
[33:23] Speaker 3: they also have it a carry version and yeah, it's
[33:27] Speaker 3: optics ready, double stack nine and they just shoot really well.
[33:32] Speaker 3: Not inexpensive. Okay, you're gonna be paying there twenty four
[33:36] Speaker 3: hundred up to I mean retail at least up to
[33:39] Speaker 3: three grand. I don't know what they go for street price.
[33:44] Speaker 3: We're in a really interesting time in that you can
[33:47] Speaker 3: get a very nice pistol for five hundred bucks. Ruger
[33:53] Speaker 3: RXm comes to mind. Nice pistol, good carry gun. I've
[33:57] Speaker 3: carried it a lot. Decent. It's not nineteen eleven trigger,
[34:02] Speaker 3: but very few are. I mean, there's a reason we
[34:04] Speaker 3: like the nineteen elevens, and yet we have a lot
[34:08] Speaker 3: of guns now. Pistols I'm thinking about right now. They're
[34:12] Speaker 3: in the twenty five hundred to forty five hundred dollar
[34:15] Speaker 3: range and very popular. I think Staccado made a difference.
[34:21] Speaker 3: I mean, people have been paying that for Wilson combat
[34:24] Speaker 3: guns and Nighthout custom guns, but a new generation of
[34:29] Speaker 3: shooters has discovered these pistols through Staccato, They've become they
[34:36] Speaker 3: really became the end gun, the gun the cool kids
[34:42] Speaker 3: were using. And that's okay. I mean, you can like
[34:46] Speaker 3: it or not like it, but it got a lot
[34:47] Speaker 3: of people into a little bit higher end guns, discovering
[34:54] Speaker 3: nineteen elevens twenty eleven's which whatever, and all of a
[34:59] Speaker 3: sudden people turning around and saying, huh, there actually are
[35:03] Speaker 3: a lot of guns in that twenty five hundred to
[35:06] Speaker 3: three thousand dollars rains a lot of money. Yeah, I
[35:08] Speaker 3: mean there are still there are a lot of guns
[35:10] Speaker 3: up at nine thousand dollars too. What would motivate you?
[35:16] Speaker 3: I guess this is my question for you. What would
[35:17] Speaker 3: motivate you to move from a five or six hundred
[35:21] Speaker 3: dollars pistol to a twenty five hundred dollars pistol? Or
[35:27] Speaker 3: maybe there's nothing that would motivate you to move up
[35:30] Speaker 3: and spend that kind of money on a pistol.
[35:34] Speaker 11: I don't know.
[35:35] Speaker 3: There's no right or wrong answer. That's part of this whole.
[35:40] Speaker 3: I'm not trying to justify what I buy anymore. I
[35:44] Speaker 3: just get it because I like it and or hopefully
[35:48] Speaker 3: I can afford it, or if I can't really afford it.
[35:55] Speaker 3: With the air quotes around, it's like I don't want
[35:57] Speaker 3: to spend that much on it. I will do the
[36:00] Speaker 3: thing that people say, don't ever do, don't ever sell
[36:03] Speaker 3: a gun. No, I sell guns. If I have guns
[36:10] Speaker 3: in the safe that haven't been shot in twenty years,
[36:16] Speaker 3: they really need to go somewhere else, especially if I
[36:19] Speaker 3: look at them and go, you know, I really like
[36:21] Speaker 3: that gun, and I'm probably never gonna shoot it again.
[36:26] Speaker 3: For whatever reason, I got something to replace it, something
[36:29] Speaker 3: that does it better. I mean, I like the gun,
[36:31] Speaker 3: I had a history with it, I have some memories
[36:33] Speaker 3: with it, et cetera, et cetera. But I'm not gonna
[36:38] Speaker 3: shoot it again. I'm not gonna take it hunting again.
[36:40] Speaker 3: It's just not Why don't I sell that gun and
[36:47] Speaker 3: take the money that's sitting in the back of a
[36:49] Speaker 3: safe doing nothing for me. Gun's not becoming more valuable,
[36:54] Speaker 3: they're not collector items. Take that money, sell one or
[36:58] Speaker 3: two or three or four guns, and then maybe say, okay,
[37:03] Speaker 3: if I sell four of these guns, I can buy
[37:06] Speaker 3: one of those twenty five hundred or three thousand dollars guns.
[37:11] Speaker 3: And so, frankly, that's what I've been doing. I will
[37:16] Speaker 3: sell two or three guns, or i'd recentally sell one
[37:19] Speaker 3: of my ultra light arms rifles, which I love. But
[37:24] Speaker 3: this one was the two eighty four Winchester, which is
[37:29] Speaker 3: a great cartridge. Loved that, but ultimately it had one
[37:34] Speaker 3: drawback that I decided I just didn't need to put
[37:37] Speaker 3: up with anymore nothing all with the rifle. They make
[37:42] Speaker 3: great rifles, but the two eighty four in that action,
[37:46] Speaker 3: you can only get two rounds into the magazine. And
[37:49] Speaker 3: I get it. This is my personal deal, just for
[37:52] Speaker 3: where I hunt and what I do. But we go
[37:54] Speaker 3: up and down really steep mountains on foot and places
[37:58] Speaker 3: where you could slide, where you could stumble, you could
[38:00] Speaker 3: fall down, and so I always keep the chamber unloaded.
[38:07] Speaker 3: I hunt with an empty chamber in my rifle, and
[38:11] Speaker 3: then I can work the bolt. If I have time,
[38:14] Speaker 3: I can take a cartridge out of my pocket. I
[38:16] Speaker 3: got my Barny bullet in there if you will, and
[38:18] Speaker 3: put it in the chamber, and so I've got the
[38:22] Speaker 3: full magazine. But if I just work the bolt with
[38:26] Speaker 3: the two eighty four, it's a two shot gun because
[38:30] Speaker 3: it only holds two in the magazine, because it's got
[38:32] Speaker 3: a fat cartridge. I also had a seven mm eight,
[38:36] Speaker 3: which has really similar ballistics to the two eighty four,
[38:41] Speaker 3: but because as a smaller diameter diameter cartridge, I can
[38:45] Speaker 3: get three rounds in the magazine. So basically it's a
[38:49] Speaker 3: two shot versus a three shot. Is that going to
[38:53] Speaker 3: make a difference? Don't know, but it could. And the
[38:57] Speaker 3: way I looked at us with you know what, let's
[39:00] Speaker 3: let somebody else own this too, eighty four, I'll take
[39:03] Speaker 3: the seven eight, I'll take the three rounds instead of
[39:06] Speaker 3: the two rounds. So that's how I arrived at that.
[39:10] Speaker 3: So I ended up with, oh, yeah, I have gun
[39:12] Speaker 3: money now, sold a gun. Now I got to go
[39:17] Speaker 3: shopping for a gun. Life is good. I was thinking
[39:31] Speaker 3: about my conversation with Eric Pratt. We're talking about the
[39:35] Speaker 3: upcoming midterm elections. I think about activism and his idea
[39:41] Speaker 3: of getting three of your friends to register to vote.
[39:47] Speaker 3: Great idea. I like that. And I think about the
[39:50] Speaker 3: two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of our country and think
[39:56] Speaker 3: about the people who signed the Declaration of Independence, which,
[40:01] Speaker 3: by the way, short document, very much worthwhile going back
[40:04] Speaker 3: and reading that, But it was signing their own death certificates.
[40:12] Speaker 3: You understand that, right, It was an act of treason
[40:16] Speaker 3: to sign this document. By signing the document, they were saying,
[40:23] Speaker 3: if the British catch me, they will kill me. If
[40:29] Speaker 3: the British take me captive. They will hang me because
[40:35] Speaker 3: I signed this document. And yet they did it. They
[40:41] Speaker 3: put everything at risk, their lives, their fortunes, their lives, everything,
[40:50] Speaker 3: their sacred honor. And so I think about today. I
[40:55] Speaker 3: think you know people who say, yeah, I'm a patriot. Okay, great,
[40:59] Speaker 3: I'm sure you are. But what would you do if
[41:03] Speaker 3: I said we would you charge that hill? Would you
[41:06] Speaker 3: fight against Yeah? Yeah, I'll do all that. Okay, great, yeah,
[41:09] Speaker 3: but would you register somebody to vote? Huh? Because that's
[41:13] Speaker 3: what we need right now. We don't need you to
[41:14] Speaker 3: charge a hill, We don't need you to grab a
[41:17] Speaker 3: gun go after somebody, but we do need to get
[41:19] Speaker 3: somebody to register to vote. We do need to win
[41:23] Speaker 3: the midterms. And I know people get tired of hearing
[41:27] Speaker 3: everybody say, well, this one's different, this is the for
[41:29] Speaker 3: all the marbles. No, this one actually is different for
[41:33] Speaker 3: a really important reason. And I hate talking about Democrats
[41:40] Speaker 3: versus Republicans because I wish we didn't have that, but
[41:45] Speaker 3: the divide is so wide now that you almost have
[41:50] Speaker 3: to and the Democrat leaders and I understand that there
[41:58] Speaker 3: are Democrats who are pro gun individual voters, but really
[42:01] Speaker 3: didn't matter anymore because the leaders of the party are
[42:06] Speaker 3: so anti gun that if the Democrats are in charge,
[42:09] Speaker 3: they will take actions against gun owners and against the
[42:14] Speaker 3: Second Amendment. What has happened is with Donald Trump being
[42:18] Speaker 3: in office, they've panicked. They're desperate, and this desperation has
[42:26] Speaker 3: caused them to be willing to do things that normally
[42:29] Speaker 3: wouldn't do. To say, we're if we win the midterms,
[42:35] Speaker 3: we're going to impeach Trump, and they will. We're going
[42:40] Speaker 3: to get rid of the filibuster so we can increase
[42:45] Speaker 3: the number of Supreme Court justices, so we can put
[42:51] Speaker 3: in the right justices, so we can get left leaning decisions,
[42:58] Speaker 3: so we can take over. No one can ever take
[43:01] Speaker 3: power back from us. Because they thought they were going
[43:03] Speaker 3: to have it forever. They did. Donald Trump surprised them.
[43:08] Speaker 3: They really thought they were going to have power forever.
[43:14] Speaker 3: And now they're desperate and they're realizing we have to
[43:17] Speaker 3: take action so that this can never happen to us again.
[43:20] Speaker 3: There can never be another Donald Trump. That's what the
[43:24] Speaker 3: midterms are about. So the question I'm asking is, would
[43:28] Speaker 3: you get together a bunch of your buddies and say, hey,
[43:30] Speaker 3: we're all going to go to lunch. We're going to
[43:32] Speaker 3: go to breakfast, We're going to go vote together. Make
[43:34] Speaker 3: sure everybody registered to vote. To be amazed how many
[43:37] Speaker 3: of your friends are not. Get your gun club involved.
[43:40] Speaker 3: If you have more ideas on this, give me a called.
[43:42] Speaker 3: You're in the after show. We'll talk about that. It's
[43:45] Speaker 3: I'm asking for a commitment at this point. It's basically,
[43:48] Speaker 3: it's that time, the two hundred and fiftieth of our country,
[43:52] Speaker 3: it's time for you to sign up and stand up.
[43:55] Speaker 3: Let's do it together.
