[0:55] Speaker 5: to do is give me a call it Tom Talk Gun.
[0:57] Speaker 5: We got a lot of news going on. I'm telling you,
[1:00] Speaker 5: We've got things coming out of the government where.
[1:01] Speaker 4: They're going to say, all right, you can apply.
[1:04] Speaker 5: Finally, if you have a felony record, nonviolent felony record,
[1:09] Speaker 5: you did your time, whatever it was, you can apply
[1:13] Speaker 5: to get your gun rights back. Thank goodness, we've been
[1:15] Speaker 5: working on that for thirty years or so. It's an
[1:18] Speaker 5: amazing thing. We also, of course have the new thing
[1:21] Speaker 5: where not only do you not have to pay the
[1:24] Speaker 5: tax on your suppressor, but now you don't have to file.
[1:27] Speaker 4: The Form four Form one all.
[1:29] Speaker 5: The rest of it. You can make your own. You
[1:32] Speaker 5: can buy a suppressor, but with restrictions. We've got to
[1:35] Speaker 5: go into the details on that. A lot of other
[1:37] Speaker 5: things going on we'll be talking about. And of course
[1:39] Speaker 5: if you have a new gun or an old gun
[1:41] Speaker 5: you aren't talked about, give me a call. We'll talk
[1:43] Speaker 5: about that as well.
[1:44] Speaker 4: All right.
[1:45] Speaker 5: And you know that we have classes down at Range
[1:47] Speaker 5: Ready Studios. A lot of people have been down there
[1:50] Speaker 5: and it's a When you say it's a unique place,
[1:54] Speaker 5: everybody goes, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a shooting range. Well,
[1:56] Speaker 5: yeah it is.
[1:57] Speaker 4: But it's more than that.
[1:58] Speaker 5: Joining me right now because he is going to be
[1:59] Speaker 5: one of the instructors of one of the coolest classes.
[2:02] Speaker 4: We've ever had there, Travis Gibson joint us right now.
[2:04] Speaker 6: How you doing, partner, I'm doing good, Tom, Thanks so
[2:07] Speaker 6: much for having me back.
[2:08] Speaker 5: All right, So you you have been down to the
[2:11] Speaker 5: place down in Louisiana, Range right and Yeah, you've been
[2:13] Speaker 5: to ranges literally all over the country pro probably around
[2:16] Speaker 5: the world, and you're a professor shooter.
[2:18] Speaker 4: You've been doing this forever. But this is a different place,
[2:20] Speaker 4: isn't it.
[2:22] Speaker 7: Yeah, it very much is.
[2:23] Speaker 6: It's got a it's got a lot of cool features,
[2:25] Speaker 6: a lot of stuff that you know, other other facilities
[2:28] Speaker 6: don't have, with with you know, Ryan doing the show
[2:30] Speaker 6: down there, the you know, the television show, and being
[2:33] Speaker 6: able to go and film here and then go outside
[2:35] Speaker 6: and shoot stuff, and yeah, it's it's it's a it.
[2:38] Speaker 7: Really is a great unique facility.
[2:39] Speaker 4: And you also eat pretty well on these classes there.
[2:42] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[2:43] Speaker 6: Yeah, I make sure and gone a diet about ten
[2:45] Speaker 6: days before I head out.
[2:47] Speaker 5: Yeah, we feed the students really well. All right, So
[2:49] Speaker 5: we got this class coming up and I'm looking, this
[2:52] Speaker 5: is the coolest thing, all right. We got Colt so
[2:54] Speaker 5: it's an ar class and they got the M five rifle,
[2:58] Speaker 5: their new M five gonna I'm going to shoot those
[3:01] Speaker 5: for two days. And it's you and your son, Wyatt.
[3:05] Speaker 5: This is like the coolest thing ever.
[3:07] Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a it's well, as you well know, getting
[3:10] Speaker 6: to getting to do cool stuff with guns with your
[3:12] Speaker 6: kids is always a good time, and and uh yeah,
[3:16] Speaker 6: we uh, Colt's been or I'm sorry why it's been
[3:18] Speaker 6: shooting with Colt for I don't even know how many
[3:21] Speaker 6: years now. It's it's been a little while, but I've
[3:23] Speaker 6: been coming and helping with a couple of classes and
[3:25] Speaker 6: stuff like that, and so uh on this one's you know,
[3:28] Speaker 6: kind of the you know why, and I will be
[3:30] Speaker 6: teaching the rifle stuff.
[3:32] Speaker 7: And just kind of going, uh, you know, I mean it's.
[3:35] Speaker 6: I'm not going to say it's a it's a you know,
[3:37] Speaker 6: an entry level class, but I mean it's it's kind
[3:39] Speaker 6: of get you going on the basics, but there's portions
[3:42] Speaker 6: of it.
[3:42] Speaker 7: That kind of get off onto the you know, into
[3:44] Speaker 7: the deep end. We're going to be doing some higher
[3:46] Speaker 7: level stuff there. So it's, uh, we're looking forward to it.
[3:49] Speaker 5: We should probably explain that, you know why, it is
[3:51] Speaker 5: actually third generation the same way that Ryan is my son,
[3:55] Speaker 5: because your dad is a shooter obviously. Okay, go ahead
[3:59] Speaker 5: and tell about.
[3:59] Speaker 6: Your op Okay, So, so my dad's my dad's Mike Gibson,
[4:05] Speaker 6: and he started MGM Targets in nineteen ninety two, when
[4:08] Speaker 6: when you know his background is in structural steel fabrication
[4:11] Speaker 6: and just my my my uncle is actually the one
[4:14] Speaker 6: that introduced my dad into competitive shooting. And my dad,
[4:18] Speaker 6: my dad started figuring this out, and of course he
[4:19] Speaker 6: goes to the range and just being the you know,
[4:22] Speaker 6: the kind of guy that is, he's looking at targets
[4:23] Speaker 6: trying to figure out way to make him better, make
[4:25] Speaker 6: him last longer, make them more durable, all that sort
[4:27] Speaker 6: of stuff. And then when he figured out you could
[4:29] Speaker 6: write off the guns and amma was a business expense,
[4:31] Speaker 6: it was all downhill from there.
[4:33] Speaker 5: So you guys makes up the very best steel targets
[4:35] Speaker 5: in the business man.
[4:37] Speaker 7: Well, well thanks Tom. Yeah, it's uh, we've been doing
[4:40] Speaker 7: it for a little while. And I can't even remember.
[4:42] Speaker 6: I was talking with somebody the other day and literally
[4:45] Speaker 6: it was last weekend. I was shooting the Idaho State
[4:47] Speaker 6: Handgun Championships over in eastern Idaho, and I'm still going
[4:51] Speaker 6: out looking at targets, like.
[4:52] Speaker 7: Can we do this, can we do that? What what
[4:54] Speaker 7: can we do to? You know?
[4:55] Speaker 6: And it was our time and I'm still looking at
[4:57] Speaker 6: him trying to figure out if there's any way we
[4:58] Speaker 6: can make them better.
[4:59] Speaker 5: Well, you looking at your targets at a range at
[5:02] Speaker 5: a match and say, yeah, but I think there's a
[5:04] Speaker 5: way we can do something a little better here.
[5:06] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[5:06] Speaker 6: You know, me just always always trying to, you know,
[5:09] Speaker 6: be innovative and look at stuff and yeah, make make
[5:11] Speaker 6: changes if we need to, always moving forward. And the
[5:14] Speaker 6: thing that made me happy was I couldn't figure out
[5:16] Speaker 6: any way to make it better.
[5:17] Speaker 7: So it's still still doing a good job.
[5:18] Speaker 4: All right. So when did you shoot your first competitive match?
[5:22] Speaker 6: I shot my first match, and I'm trying to say
[5:25] Speaker 6: it was like December of two thousand and five.
[5:28] Speaker 5: I think, man, you've been doing this in a while,
[5:32] Speaker 5: and of course you know you are a top level.
[5:34] Speaker 5: I mean at these matches, it's like, yeah, we know
[5:36] Speaker 5: Travis is going to be right there at the very top,
[5:38] Speaker 5: you know, any given time. But taking that and then
[5:42] Speaker 5: looking at Wyatt, that guy is like a superhuman shooter.
[5:46] Speaker 6: Yeah he's And the thing of it is, you know,
[5:48] Speaker 6: and now with that being said, like like the kid's
[5:51] Speaker 6: been shooting with me since he was six, literally was
[5:53] Speaker 6: how old do you know when he went and shot
[5:54] Speaker 6: his first match. So he's been shooting almost as long
[5:57] Speaker 6: as I have. And he doesn't have bad.
[5:59] Speaker 7: Knees and bad eyes. You know, and so he's getting
[6:02] Speaker 7: around really good.
[6:03] Speaker 6: You know, put a lot of put a lot of
[6:05] Speaker 6: effort in the beginning, so he's yeah, he's doing a
[6:08] Speaker 6: great job, all right.
[6:09] Speaker 5: So one of the things that's so cool about this
[6:10] Speaker 5: class to do it range right now. People can go
[6:12] Speaker 5: to range ready studios dot com, sign up, you take
[6:15] Speaker 5: the class, You get two days a really good shoot.
[6:18] Speaker 5: You can walk in knowing just a little bit about
[6:20] Speaker 5: RS and come away knowing a lot about RS.
[6:23] Speaker 4: But not only do you get the training, the AMO.
[6:25] Speaker 5: Is provided, the accessories are provided, the rifle is provided,
[6:31] Speaker 5: the optic is provided. Oh yeah, at the end of
[6:34] Speaker 5: the day, you get to keep the rifle and you
[6:36] Speaker 5: get to keep the optic, and you get to keep
[6:38] Speaker 5: all the other stuff that you were using. I mean,
[6:40] Speaker 5: you just simply get everything and the instruction. It's spectacular.
[6:46] Speaker 6: Yeah, this is This will be the second one of
[6:49] Speaker 6: these that I've been involved with with Cold and the
[6:54] Speaker 6: first ones was with the pistols. So we did a
[6:56] Speaker 6: nineteen eleven nine mil with the Vortex red dot on
[7:00] Speaker 6: it and kind of did the same thing and Release
[7:03] Speaker 6: and Justine with Colt were right down there helping Wyatt.
[7:06] Speaker 6: So it's uh, yeah, it was, like I said.
[7:08] Speaker 7: Holsters Magazines, Ammo, you know, the whole nine yards. It was.
[7:11] Speaker 6: It was a great event, and I'm really looking forward
[7:13] Speaker 6: to this one as well.
[7:15] Speaker 5: One of the things I think about that people don't
[7:17] Speaker 5: quite understand maybe is the whole idea of the low
[7:20] Speaker 5: powered variable optic the lpv O. Uh. This one, we're
[7:24] Speaker 5: going to be using the Voodoo X from EO techts
[7:26] Speaker 5: a one to six, and I know that everybody wants
[7:29] Speaker 5: high magnification because they're shooting long range, but with a
[7:32] Speaker 5: one to six you could do a lot of stuff.
[7:35] Speaker 4: Talk about that.
[7:36] Speaker 6: When I first started shooting, like I remember Loo pulled
[7:38] Speaker 6: out a c QT one to three and like that
[7:40] Speaker 6: was the rage, like, oh man, you got they've got
[7:42] Speaker 6: this new thing that's coming out.
[7:44] Speaker 7: And then they started getting up and they couldn't find
[7:46] Speaker 7: her true one power. They went from one.
[7:48] Speaker 6: And a half to five was kind of the next
[7:49] Speaker 6: new hotness, and now they're getting you know, if you're
[7:52] Speaker 6: one to six is you know, like that's just you know, everybody's.
[7:55] Speaker 7: Kind of got those.
[7:56] Speaker 6: And so what what folks has started doing is started
[7:59] Speaker 6: starting to really work on the glass, making sure it's got.
[8:01] Speaker 7: A good site picture Uh.
[8:02] Speaker 6: And the other thing is good radicals, right, making sure
[8:05] Speaker 6: that you've got to so when you're on six power
[8:07] Speaker 6: and most of these, most of these are the you know,
[8:09] Speaker 6: the I.
[8:09] Speaker 7: Was get these two mixed up.
[8:10] Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure it's second focal plane to where the
[8:13] Speaker 6: the the radical changes size with the uh, with the
[8:16] Speaker 6: power of magnification power. But yeah, making sure that those
[8:20] Speaker 6: things lined up and you know, and they fit. Uh,
[8:23] Speaker 6: you know, a good range of ballistics on the your
[8:25] Speaker 6: ammo something like that.
[8:27] Speaker 5: That may be first vocal plane. But I always have
[8:28] Speaker 5: to look it up. I get them confused too, So there.
[8:31] Speaker 7: You very well could be right.
[8:32] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[8:32] Speaker 6: Yeah, Like like I said, I gotta I got to
[8:34] Speaker 6: look it up as well. But yeah, just having those things,
[8:37] Speaker 6: you know, having good radicals in them to where you know,
[8:39] Speaker 6: engaging you know, honestly, like twelve inch plates out to
[8:43] Speaker 6: five or six hundred yards is not a big deal
[8:45] Speaker 6: with a six power scope with a six power scope
[8:48] Speaker 6: undred percent.
[8:49] Speaker 4: So why would somebody want one power scope.
[8:52] Speaker 6: For the low power end of the end of the spectrum,
[8:54] Speaker 6: right for just you know, doing close stuff. Uh. That's
[8:57] Speaker 6: the other thing that a lot of these companies are doing.
[8:59] Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure I haven't got to play with this
[9:01] Speaker 6: this eotech.
[9:01] Speaker 7: That we're going to be using a lot. But what
[9:04] Speaker 7: a lot of.
[9:04] Speaker 6: These companies are doing is they're putting a nice red
[9:06] Speaker 6: dot inside there. So you put this thing on one
[9:08] Speaker 6: power and you're running it like a true red dot
[9:10] Speaker 6: site or so for close close target engagement and those
[9:13] Speaker 6: sorts of things. You're running at two eyes open and
[9:15] Speaker 6: just you know, being able to burn stuff down.
[9:17] Speaker 4: It is fast.
[9:18] Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yep, super fast. Yeah.
[9:21] Speaker 6: The field of view on these guys is huge, and
[9:23] Speaker 6: like I said, with that red dot in there, yeah,
[9:25] Speaker 6: you can you can really get after it.
[9:26] Speaker 7: You know.
[9:27] Speaker 5: I'm just thinking that uh an ar with like a
[9:30] Speaker 5: one to six would be I think probably the perfect
[9:34] Speaker 5: setup for a defensive gun.
[9:36] Speaker 6: Yeap, it really is, you know, And that's I don't
[9:38] Speaker 6: want to get too far off into the weeds, but
[9:40] Speaker 6: where you live, you know, and and you know, making
[9:42] Speaker 6: that choice and those sorts of things.
[9:43] Speaker 7: But that's that's what.
[9:45] Speaker 6: That's what I've got on most of my guns is
[9:47] Speaker 6: is a one to something, you know, one to six
[9:49] Speaker 6: or you know.
[9:50] Speaker 5: One, Yeah, but that one gives you both eyes open,
[9:54] Speaker 5: fat actually faster than iron sights. It's just amazing and
[9:57] Speaker 5: with an illuminated radical and this one does have them radical.
[10:00] Speaker 5: You're right, it is like a red dot, but with
[10:03] Speaker 5: a lot more options.
[10:04] Speaker 7: Oh yeah, for sure.
[10:05] Speaker 6: Yeah for defense guy, you know, an n AR with
[10:08] Speaker 6: a with a one to six with you know that
[10:11] Speaker 6: has the red dot inside of it, a light and
[10:13] Speaker 6: a sling. Like you're that's pretty set up. That's pretty
[10:16] Speaker 6: good to go right there.
[10:17] Speaker 4: You mentioned sling.
[10:18] Speaker 5: Everybody gets a sling with this one too, and I
[10:21] Speaker 5: think some people, if are just brand new to it,
[10:23] Speaker 5: they don't understand the use of a sling or how
[10:26] Speaker 5: necessary a sling is on a defensive ar.
[10:29] Speaker 7: Yeah, it most certainly is, and it's and it's something
[10:32] Speaker 7: you know.
[10:32] Speaker 6: Obviously I didn't understand it either, and I went to
[10:35] Speaker 6: a class down in Texas with the It was actually
[10:38] Speaker 6: a law enforcement class that I was fortunate enough to
[10:40] Speaker 6: be able to partake in, even though it wasn't law enforcement,
[10:43] Speaker 6: put on by a guy named Benny Cooley, who is
[10:46] Speaker 6: arguably one of the best all around riflemen in the world.
[10:49] Speaker 6: I mean, just you know, dude's been doing it forever.
[10:51] Speaker 6: But I went down there and took a took a
[10:53] Speaker 6: two days worth of class with him with the sling,
[10:55] Speaker 6: and you're like, holy smokes, Like I can't believe you
[10:58] Speaker 6: can pick up an r and not have one of
[10:59] Speaker 6: the it.
[11:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, you go, you go back home. You put a
[11:01] Speaker 4: sling on all of them, don't you.
[11:03] Speaker 5: Yeah?
[11:03] Speaker 7: That pretty much? Yep, pretty much, yep. Yeah, for sure.
[11:07] Speaker 4: Have you had a chance to shoot the Colt five?
[11:10] Speaker 7: I haven't. It's gonna be my first day.
[11:12] Speaker 4: Too, Okay, this They're gonna be fun.
[11:16] Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
[11:17] Speaker 6: I've seen it so when we're down there doing the
[11:20] Speaker 6: when we're down there doing the the nineteen eleven class
[11:24] Speaker 6: with Cold and I got to see it, but I
[11:26] Speaker 6: didn't actually get.
[11:27] Speaker 7: To shoot it. So okay, yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
[11:29] Speaker 4: Good ude, Well you get to shoot with this cold
[11:31] Speaker 4: professional shooter, you know, that's.
[11:33] Speaker 7: What I heard. I'm looking forward to that too.
[11:37] Speaker 5: Interested it's you go to Rangebady Studios dot Com. I
[11:40] Speaker 5: know they have a couple of slots left, but this
[11:41] Speaker 5: thing is going to sell out. I mean, and I
[11:43] Speaker 5: think it was twenty five hundred bucks. You get the
[11:46] Speaker 5: two days instruction, you get all them, you get the rifle,
[11:49] Speaker 5: you get the scope, you get all the accessories. Oh yeah,
[11:52] Speaker 5: and you get a really good couple of days of
[11:54] Speaker 5: lunches too.
[11:56] Speaker 7: Okay, I was gonna say, don't leave out the lunches.
[11:58] Speaker 7: That's that's one of the really good parts. You know.
[12:01] Speaker 4: It's funny.
[12:01] Speaker 5: People think we're joking, but people do come away going, man,
[12:04] Speaker 5: I just can't believe how.
[12:05] Speaker 4: They fed us. Yeah.
[12:08] Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not normal range food, that's for sure.
[12:11] Speaker 4: It is. It is not.
[12:12] Speaker 7: Well.
[12:12] Speaker 4: I know you're gonna have a good time down there.
[12:14] Speaker 5: Anybody that could signed up, if they can get in,
[12:16] Speaker 5: they're gonna have a great time too.
[12:18] Speaker 7: Hey.
[12:18] Speaker 4: You know, by the way, uh, you just moved back
[12:20] Speaker 4: to Idaho, So welcome back home.
[12:22] Speaker 7: Thank you very much. I'm super excited to be here.
[12:25] Speaker 4: We're gonna get together do some shooting now.
[12:27] Speaker 7: Yep. I like it.

[14:37] Speaker 1: Two hundred and fifty years of American liberty, Ruger is
[14:40] Speaker 1: honoring that milestone with firearms worthy of the moment. The
[14:43] Speaker 1: two hundred and fiftieth Anniversary series distinctly marked with made
[14:46] Speaker 1: in the two hundred and fiftieth year of American Liberty.
[14:49] Speaker 1: Each limited production model echoes Ruger's legendary nineteen seventy six
[14:53] Speaker 1: bi centennial line while celebrating the freedoms the Second Amendment
[14:56] Speaker 1: has safeguarded for generations, from the iconic ten twenty two
[14:59] Speaker 1: to the LCP Max, the Super Wrangler to the American
[15:02] Speaker 1: Rifle Jen two. These aren't just guns.
[15:17] Speaker 5: All right, Let's talk about guns. I'm Tom Gresham. This
[15:20] Speaker 5: is Gun Talk. We're gonna have some fun now. I
[15:22] Speaker 5: got a lot of time available right now. I've got
[15:23] Speaker 5: a big segment of the show available right now for
[15:27] Speaker 5: you to call in and we can talk about, well,
[15:29] Speaker 5: whatever you want to talk about.
[15:30] Speaker 4: To give me a call. The phone number is very
[15:32] Speaker 4: easy to remember.
[15:33] Speaker 7: Tom.
[15:34] Speaker 4: That's me, Tom Talk Gun. That's it.
[15:37] Speaker 5: Just call Tom Talk Gun. If we're all the numbers,
[15:40] Speaker 5: eight sixty six, eight two five, five four eighty six.
[15:42] Speaker 4: Who cares? Tom Talk Gun. There you go.
[15:45] Speaker 5: And honestly, it doesn't really matter what the subject matter is.
[15:49] Speaker 5: I can't hold a thought anyway, so I don't even
[15:51] Speaker 5: know what we were talking about before. So don't worry
[15:53] Speaker 5: about continuity.
[15:55] Speaker 4: I never have.
[15:57] Speaker 5: So if you know there's a gun you want to
[15:59] Speaker 5: talk about, or questions that you have for me, if
[16:01] Speaker 5: you think about starting to carry a gun, it's a
[16:06] Speaker 5: complex subject and a lot of people want to make
[16:09] Speaker 5: it simple, and generally people who want to make it
[16:12] Speaker 5: simple don't know much about it. Kind of goes to
[16:15] Speaker 5: that whole topic we talk about regularly, which is choose
[16:18] Speaker 5: your sources of information carefully. It's a lot of nonsense
[16:24] Speaker 5: out there, and unfortunately, if you don't know the difference.
[16:28] Speaker 5: Some of the people spouting nonsense really sound and look
[16:32] Speaker 5: like they know what they're doing. They're all tacticaled up,
[16:36] Speaker 5: got all their cool gear, they got all these cool moves,
[16:40] Speaker 5: and they talk with big, deep voices. But they may
[16:45] Speaker 5: not know what they're doing. So just be careful. Che's wisely.
[16:49] Speaker 5: I have been vacillating thinking about for I don't know why.
[16:54] Speaker 5: For some reason, I was looking at three eighties three
[16:56] Speaker 5: eighty pistols. If you know, you know, but the three
[17:00] Speaker 5: eighty cartridge is essentially a shorter, weaker nine milimeter cartridge
[17:05] Speaker 5: shoots a nine milimeter bullet. In fact, in Germany the
[17:09] Speaker 5: three eighties called the nine milimeter curse, which is I
[17:13] Speaker 5: mean short, It's a nine milimeters short. There was a
[17:19] Speaker 5: time when you wouldn't have thought of carrying a three
[17:21] Speaker 5: eighty for self defense. But that's back when we were
[17:23] Speaker 5: all shooting full metal jacket bullets. Now we have really
[17:25] Speaker 5: good AMMO and really good bullets, and there are a
[17:28] Speaker 5: lot of good three eighties out there. I think Caltech
[17:30] Speaker 5: and Ruger broke through with their little bitty, teeny tiny
[17:36] Speaker 5: pistols in three eighty. I don't know anybody, honestly who's
[17:42] Speaker 5: series about self defense, who really is into this, who
[17:44] Speaker 5: doesn't own a Ruger LCP or the Celtech version, may
[17:50] Speaker 5: not carry it much anymore, but probably did, but you
[17:53] Speaker 5: know it is the s ken Jorkinson said, it's the
[17:58] Speaker 5: gun you carry when you can carry a gun, and
[18:01] Speaker 5: that's a really good description of it. There are some
[18:04] Speaker 5: slightly larger versions available now, and it's kind of a
[18:10] Speaker 5: cool sweet spot, and I would call them it's a microcompact,
[18:15] Speaker 5: but not as super small as the LCP, something like
[18:19] Speaker 5: the Smith and Western Bodyguard two point zero, and there
[18:22] Speaker 5: are versions from Ruger and others. There are some really
[18:27] Speaker 5: nice advantages to the three eighty, particularly for people who
[18:32] Speaker 5: have trouble working the slide of a nine milimeter with
[18:35] Speaker 5: a recoil spring is just too strong. I can't you know,
[18:38] Speaker 5: we could go into the technique and all, but yeah,
[18:40] Speaker 5: I look there people who just don't have the strength
[18:44] Speaker 5: ours right as to whatever. Almost anybody can work the
[18:48] Speaker 5: slide on a three eighty, not the super small ones, understand,
[18:53] Speaker 5: because as you get smaller and smaller, the spring recoil
[18:57] Speaker 5: spring has to get smaller and smaller, shorter, but it
[19:00] Speaker 5: still has to have the power to handle the recoil,
[19:03] Speaker 5: and so it is harder to work the slide. As
[19:06] Speaker 5: your three eighty pistol gets larger, the slide becomes easier
[19:11] Speaker 5: to work. A totally full size three eighty is an
[19:16] Speaker 5: amazing thing, really no effort at all. But these mid
[19:21] Speaker 5: sized microcompacts whatever you want to call them, like the
[19:24] Speaker 5: Bodyguard two point zero, very easy to work, the slide
[19:27] Speaker 5: on them, very shootable, not much recoil and there. This
[19:34] Speaker 5: new generation is really crazy accurate. I enjoy shooting The
[19:39] Speaker 5: Bodyguard all the way back to and it's been around
[19:42] Speaker 5: a long time now. The SIGs got their own version,
[19:45] Speaker 5: the nine thirty eight. That's the nine million ear they
[19:48] Speaker 5: are I think it's two thirty eight three eighty and
[19:51] Speaker 5: it looks like a little shrunk nineteen eleven and they
[19:55] Speaker 5: shoot really well. They're kind of small and honestly harder
[19:59] Speaker 5: to shoot because they're so As you get to smaller guns,
[20:03] Speaker 5: really really smaller guns, they simply become more difficult to
[20:07] Speaker 5: shoot well. Speaking of shooting, well, later on in the show,
[20:13] Speaker 5: we're gonna have a world champion, National champion, world champion
[20:16] Speaker 5: shooter who's won practically everything there is to win. In
[20:20] Speaker 5: pistol shooting, and just because we like to drive people crazy.
[20:27] Speaker 5: One of the things he talks about is quit thinking
[20:29] Speaker 5: about amy. You spend too much effort worrying about amy.
[20:36] Speaker 5: If you stop thinking about aiming, you could hit targets better.
[20:41] Speaker 5: It's true. I have demonstrated it on the range many,
[20:45] Speaker 5: many times. But we'll let him cover that.
[20:50] Speaker 4: It's fun.
[20:52] Speaker 5: One of the questions I ask, and it's rhetorical and
[20:55] Speaker 5: maybe not, it's why do you miss?
[21:00] Speaker 4: Targets?
[21:00] Speaker 5: Aren't moving? Generally? Paper target's just there when you aim
[21:06] Speaker 5: at the target. Are the sites going all over the place?
[21:10] Speaker 5: Are they like off the target? Are they off the paper?
[21:12] Speaker 5: Or are they putting up the sky pourting down to
[21:14] Speaker 5: the ground? What's going on here? People want to shoot better,
[21:23] Speaker 5: but I'm not sure everybody, No, I am sure. I'm
[21:26] Speaker 5: sure that most people don't really work on how do
[21:30] Speaker 5: I get better? Why am I missing? Which is the
[21:34] Speaker 5: sense your question? Why did I not shoot better?
[21:38] Speaker 4: We can?
[21:39] Speaker 5: The guns are amazingly good these days. If you put
[21:43] Speaker 5: the gun in a vice, it's going to put all
[21:44] Speaker 5: the shots pretty close.
[21:45] Speaker 4: To one hole. So what's going on? I don't know.
[21:48] Speaker 4: We'll talk about that.
[21:49] Speaker 5: If you have a comment or question or a thought
[21:51] Speaker 5: on that, or if you figured it out, I'd love
[21:53] Speaker 5: to know how you got better.
[21:55] Speaker 4: Oh so I got a question for you.
[21:57] Speaker 5: Know those things as magnets where you stick your gun
[22:01] Speaker 5: onto the dash under the dash of your car, and
[22:04] Speaker 5: you got your pistol. It's backed onto the car or
[22:08] Speaker 5: onto the console. You take it a yourholes should put
[22:10] Speaker 5: it in there. Somebody's gonna have to call it. Explain
[22:13] Speaker 5: that to me. I am not understanding it, and I'm
[22:17] Speaker 5: sure I'm missing something. But if you do it and
[22:20] Speaker 5: you have one, let me know. Number here is Tom
[22:22] Speaker 5: Talk Gun. I'm curious and i am ready to be educated.
[22:27] Speaker 5: I'm Tom Gresham. This is gun Talking.
[22:36] Speaker 4: Oh what have you been shooting?
[22:37] Speaker 5: Let me know. Give me a call right now. Call
[22:39] Speaker 5: me at tom Talk Gun. I'm Tom Gresham. This is
[22:43] Speaker 5: gun Talk. You can check us out over on the web,
[22:45] Speaker 5: of course. We are gun talk dot Com. We're on
[22:47] Speaker 5: Facebook is gun talk Media. Over on YouTube you can
[22:50] Speaker 5: find us. I'm on x where you can find me.
[22:53] Speaker 5: I am at gun talk over there. I had an
[22:57] Speaker 5: interesting post from somebody I guess was yesterday. He says, Yeah,
[23:01] Speaker 5: you got an interesting take. You tell people they shouldn't
[23:06] Speaker 5: have training and shouldn't take classes because you encourage them
[23:11] Speaker 5: to spend all their money on new guns. So I
[23:16] Speaker 5: did not quite know how to respond to that, so
[23:18] Speaker 5: I said, where you got me? You got me on
[23:20] Speaker 5: that one. Yep, I've never told anybody they ought to
[23:22] Speaker 5: go and get training. I'll try to do better. I mean,
[23:27] Speaker 5: what do you do right again? Eight six six? Talk
[23:30] Speaker 5: gun gets you in here? Let's see Rodney called that
[23:33] Speaker 5: out of Texas online one. Hey, Rodi, thanks for calling down.
[23:36] Speaker 5: Work on your mind, Thank you.
[23:38] Speaker 12: Tom So, I'm reloading some forty five acp pistols and
[23:42] Speaker 12: pistol cartridges, and I've noticed that the hornity brass doesn't
[23:48] Speaker 12: seem to want to take either the large pistol prommer
[23:51] Speaker 12: nor the small pistol promer. Most of them take more
[23:54] Speaker 12: than the others, such as Federal Fredwell takes the smaller
[23:56] Speaker 12: ones and other ones take the larger ones. But this
[23:59] Speaker 12: one just there's something just a little bit off on
[24:02] Speaker 12: this brass. And I'm wondering, is can you elaborate on
[24:05] Speaker 12: that or why is that?
[24:08] Speaker 5: I have not experienced that. I'm just wondering. So clearly
[24:12] Speaker 5: you are an experienced reloader. So you understand that some
[24:15] Speaker 5: are coming with small private pockets the summer are coming
[24:18] Speaker 5: with large, but in this case you can't get either
[24:20] Speaker 5: want of them to work. What happens when you're trying
[24:22] Speaker 5: to get in.
[24:24] Speaker 12: I can try to force some of them in, but
[24:27] Speaker 12: sometimes you'll bend the primer and you know it just
[24:31] Speaker 12: or it'll go in. It just doesn't go in right now.
[24:33] Speaker 12: So what I've been doing is just I've just been
[24:35] Speaker 12: chunking the hornity brass, which I don't want to do.
[24:38] Speaker 12: I know it's a good quality brass, but I'm just
[24:40] Speaker 12: wondering did horn Hornby make a little bit different kind
[24:44] Speaker 12: of primer or something that they put them in? So
[24:46] Speaker 12: I thought i'd ask you you.
[24:49] Speaker 5: Are you familiar with well, basically cleaning up a private pocket.
[24:56] Speaker 5: You can have a little tools that were put in
[24:58] Speaker 5: there and scrape them and clean them up, get them
[25:00] Speaker 5: to the universe uniform size. I'm just wondering if either
[25:03] Speaker 5: they're suaging the primer pockets, uh some kind of a
[25:06] Speaker 5: crimp in there, or if you can uniform them with
[25:10] Speaker 5: a private pocket uniformer and that would work.
[25:13] Speaker 12: I haven't tried that. I would just usually just after
[25:15] Speaker 12: I clean them, you know clean my brass. I usually
[25:17] Speaker 12: prime I wipe them out with a Q tip, but
[25:20] Speaker 12: I haven't tried a primer tool, so you.
[25:23] Speaker 5: Know, I mean the obvious thing would it would be
[25:26] Speaker 5: just to give them a call, call Horny and say, hey,
[25:28] Speaker 5: this is what's going on. Is there something I need
[25:30] Speaker 5: to know about your primer pockets?
[25:32] Speaker 12: Yeah, I'll try that.
[25:34] Speaker 7: Well.
[25:34] Speaker 12: Thank you so much Ryan for my question.
[25:36] Speaker 4: Do you bet?
[25:36] Speaker 5: I'm not sure I helped it all, but at least
[25:38] Speaker 5: it gives you a couple of places to head out.
[25:40] Speaker 5: I appreciate the call, sir. Let's go grab Joe out
[25:43] Speaker 5: of New Jersey. Hello, Joe, you're on gun talking what
[25:45] Speaker 5: you ben shooting?
[25:47] Speaker 7: Well?
[25:48] Speaker 13: Tom, I got a range report for you about a
[25:51] Speaker 13: new target and a new drill. I don't know if
[25:53] Speaker 13: you saw it. I sent you an email. It's quite
[25:55] Speaker 13: the easy to see it says E letter E, the
[25:59] Speaker 13: letter Z, the number two and the number ce. Easy
[26:02] Speaker 13: and what it is on the target. They've got eight
[26:04] Speaker 13: geometric shapes, each one about the size of a coffee saucer.
[26:07] Speaker 13: They've got two squares, two circles, two triangles, and two octagons,
[26:12] Speaker 13: and each pair which are randomly scattered. You know, one
[26:15] Speaker 13: one square might be red and the other might be yellow.
[26:17] Speaker 13: One circle might be green, the other one might be blank.
[26:21] Speaker 13: And in each one there's a number, and the numbers
[26:23] Speaker 13: are no particular order, but they're all different. So what
[26:26] Speaker 13: we do now is one of us stands behind the
[26:28] Speaker 13: shooter and we'll call out green circle number seven, and
[26:33] Speaker 13: they have to go find those two targets. They have
[26:35] Speaker 13: to go bang bang, and then we call out the
[26:37] Speaker 13: next pair, bang bang, and it's you know, so it's
[26:40] Speaker 13: a quick target recognition quick fire, so much more interesting
[26:44] Speaker 13: and challenging and just shooting at the little red bulls
[26:46] Speaker 13: eye in the center of the target.
[26:48] Speaker 5: Absolutely, And look we've been doing that for thirty or
[26:50] Speaker 5: forty years, making up our own targets, are getting targets
[26:53] Speaker 5: from different people, and have somebody call out, you know,
[26:56] Speaker 5: odd numbers are you know, I just say seven and
[26:59] Speaker 5: three whatever. So rather than just quickly jumping up with
[27:05] Speaker 5: the gun and shooting the target, you have to find
[27:08] Speaker 5: the target, identify it before you shoot it.
[27:11] Speaker 4: I think that's really good training.
[27:14] Speaker 13: Yeah, and it's really I don't know, if you check
[27:15] Speaker 13: your email, you'll see a picture Tom. But again it's
[27:17] Speaker 13: a fairly large target. And again there's eight. There's four
[27:22] Speaker 13: in each column, but no two geometric shapes have the
[27:25] Speaker 13: same color, you know. So you might have two triangles,
[27:29] Speaker 13: but one triangle might be green and the other triangle
[27:31] Speaker 13: it might be yellow. Circle. I'm sorry, you can't game it.
[27:37] Speaker 4: You got you got to actually listen to the instruction
[27:39] Speaker 4: and find.
[27:39] Speaker 13: The right target right, and the numbers are not If
[27:42] Speaker 13: the numbers are one through eight, but they're not in
[27:45] Speaker 13: any sequence. They're not one, two, three, four. You know,
[27:47] Speaker 13: the number eight might be an upper left hand corner.
[27:49] Speaker 13: Number three might be the second one down on the right.
[27:52] Speaker 13: So if I shout out, you know, green circle number four,
[27:56] Speaker 13: you've got to find the green first, find the number
[27:58] Speaker 13: circle the green green. By the way, the number four
[28:02] Speaker 13: might be in the green circle. So if I if
[28:03] Speaker 13: I yet a green circle, number three, and then number three,
[28:07] Speaker 13: it's going to take you a second to realize that
[28:08] Speaker 13: number three is also the green circle. You have to
[28:12] Speaker 13: shoot the green circle twice.
[28:14] Speaker 4: So what do you feel like you're getting out of
[28:16] Speaker 4: that target, Well.
[28:18] Speaker 13: It's it's it's a target recognition and then quick you know,
[28:21] Speaker 13: it's quick shifting.
[28:23] Speaker 14: Again.
[28:23] Speaker 13: When when we're shooting red bull's eyes, we used to
[28:25] Speaker 13: stand there for five or six seconds, you know, steady
[28:28] Speaker 13: the gun, you know, hould control of our breathing and
[28:30] Speaker 13: squeeze off. The shot gets boring pretty quick. So this
[28:34] Speaker 13: is more real life quick target identification. It's more it's
[28:39] Speaker 13: more of a real life Hey, you've got to you've
[28:41] Speaker 13: got to identify the target, make sure it's the right target,
[28:43] Speaker 13: and you got to shoot quickly, and you got to
[28:45] Speaker 13: shoot accurately, which is much more realistic than our typical
[28:50] Speaker 13: red you know, shoot at the red dot in the
[28:51] Speaker 13: middle of the target.
[28:52] Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I love it.
[28:53] Speaker 7: I love it.
[28:54] Speaker 5: Look, thank you for the call, and thank you for
[28:55] Speaker 5: bringing that up. I appreciate that. That's as I say,
[28:57] Speaker 5: it's something we've been doing for many, many years. But
[29:01] Speaker 5: there's a commercial target available and anybody can do that.
[29:03] Speaker 5: You can put up your own targets and have somebody
[29:06] Speaker 5: call them out. That leads me to a topic, and
[29:12] Speaker 5: I'm normal, don't go anywhere. I'm gonna get you in
[29:14] Speaker 5: just a second. Here the idea that And yes, I
[29:19] Speaker 5: understand the drawing and shooting fast is a skill, and
[29:21] Speaker 5: it's a good skill to have. It's good weapon manipulation skill.
[29:28] Speaker 5: But in defensive situations, Drawing and shooting fast may not
[29:32] Speaker 5: be the solution. I'm not saying it's a bad thing
[29:36] Speaker 5: to know how to do, but it may not be
[29:39] Speaker 5: called for. What often is called for is looking and
[29:45] Speaker 5: understanding what's going on, trying to figure out, you know, okay,
[29:51] Speaker 5: where's the bad guy? How many bad guys are there?
[29:53] Speaker 5: Is there more than one? Are there new people arriving
[29:58] Speaker 5: on the scene if they already have a gun out.
[30:02] Speaker 5: I can't get into a fast draw contest with somebody
[30:04] Speaker 5: whos already got a gun out. So now it becomes
[30:06] Speaker 5: a matter of timing. Is there a way to have
[30:08] Speaker 5: you ever practiced drawing from stealth? You're sitting down and
[30:15] Speaker 5: you're going to try to get your gun out, so
[30:17] Speaker 5: you have it in your hand, but nobody sees that
[30:18] Speaker 5: you're drawing. That is not an easy thing to do.
[30:21] Speaker 5: You need to practice that. And this kind of goes
[30:25] Speaker 5: along with that, which is taking enough time to find
[30:30] Speaker 5: the right target, identify the right target, and then shoot
[30:33] Speaker 5: the right target, as opposed to just drags you fast,
[30:38] Speaker 5: because that, as I say, that.
[30:40] Speaker 4: May be necessary.
[30:42] Speaker 5: And you know, in the old Gunslinger movies it was
[30:47] Speaker 5: whoever could draw fast and youoo fast would win. Not
[30:52] Speaker 5: realistic in a lot of situations. Just food for thought.
[30:55] Speaker 5: Love to get your take on that. All right, let's
[30:57] Speaker 5: go pick up Noran on five out of Grant's Pass
[30:59] Speaker 5: or no, let's talk three eighties.
[31:04] Speaker 14: I have gone through a number of concealed carries, trying
[31:09] Speaker 14: different things for different scenarios and particularly when I'm in
[31:13] Speaker 14: the dress, you know, clothing, church or outings. I've gone
[31:20] Speaker 14: to the Taurus. I've been through the Burretta that I've
[31:23] Speaker 14: been through the even the Bursa thunder. And recently I
[31:30] Speaker 14: was gifted older custom or cult Mustang pocket light. It's
[31:37] Speaker 14: in a little nineteen eleven format, and I'll tell you
[31:41] Speaker 14: what I really enjoy it. It is much It's kind
[31:46] Speaker 14: of that middle size to where I can hang on
[31:48] Speaker 14: to it well and still stay on target at you know,
[31:53] Speaker 14: twenty feet thirty feet, I can still put it on plate.
[31:57] Speaker 14: And it's a good conceive for dress clothing.
[32:02] Speaker 5: And they're small. This is a small pistol. I've shot those.
[32:05] Speaker 5: They shoot really well.
[32:08] Speaker 14: I was I was immensely surprised at how easily it
[32:13] Speaker 14: was to control it. And you know, I'm still getting
[32:16] Speaker 14: used to it practicing with it. But by default. Now
[32:19] Speaker 14: if I'm in dress clothing, it's my default to go
[32:23] Speaker 14: to for a really nice kind of medium subcompact. I
[32:29] Speaker 14: guess you'd still call it, but I mean a little
[32:32] Speaker 14: shoulder holster or in the waistband dress clothing, a little
[32:37] Speaker 14: vest on. You can't see it.
[32:41] Speaker 5: You could even put that in like a little pocket
[32:43] Speaker 5: holster and slide into a front past pocket.
[32:46] Speaker 4: It would just disappear in there.
[32:48] Speaker 14: Absolutely absolutely done that as well for a quick grab,
[32:51] Speaker 14: you know, going into the big stores, and while it's
[32:56] Speaker 14: in my duffel.
[32:58] Speaker 4: You know, I was thinking about this.
[33:00] Speaker 5: I think one of the reasons that that pistol shoots
[33:03] Speaker 5: so well is because even though it's a small gun,
[33:07] Speaker 5: it's got short sight radius and it's lightweight.
[33:11] Speaker 4: Is it has such a good trigger.
[33:12] Speaker 5: It's nineteen eleven, and so you're not disturbing the sites
[33:17] Speaker 5: as much when you pull the trigger on that.
[33:20] Speaker 14: What do you think, well, I would agree. I learned
[33:26] Speaker 14: a lot of my pistol shooting on you know, forty
[33:29] Speaker 14: five nineteen eleven and going to the other ones, you know,
[33:33] Speaker 14: I learned to control them. But as soon as I
[33:36] Speaker 14: put that nineteen you know, that Compact nineteen eleven in
[33:39] Speaker 14: my hand. I went, no, this is this is this
[33:42] Speaker 14: is what my hand likes, and my eyes.
[33:46] Speaker 4: I've already been trained on it, right, right, it is interesting.
[33:52] Speaker 5: Well that that's a really good recommendation. The other part
[33:55] Speaker 5: of that solution or that package, is to make sure
[33:58] Speaker 5: you're using good modern three eighty m On, we've got
[34:01] Speaker 5: some really good defensive end of these days.
[34:03] Speaker 4: What do you know, what are you carrying these days?
[34:06] Speaker 14: Well, I load most all of my own, But when
[34:10] Speaker 14: I am during that carry, I do the buyout and
[34:14] Speaker 14: I do the hornity hollow points. I forget what their
[34:20] Speaker 14: reference is for it, but I very specifically buy you know,
[34:26] Speaker 14: a good quality.
[34:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's good, that's good round, good carry, good good,
[34:31] Speaker 4: good call.
[34:32] Speaker 5: And you know, obviously you just make sure they run
[34:33] Speaker 5: through your gun. Great call, Mormon, thank you for calling in.
[34:37] Speaker 4: I love that take.
[34:38] Speaker 5: I think that cult pocket Light or the Colt Pony,
[34:42] Speaker 5: the Little Miniature nineteen eleven and three eighty is certainly viable.
[34:48] Speaker 5: SIGG has kind of the same thing in the nine
[34:51] Speaker 5: thirty eight. And then you've got a lot of these
[34:54] Speaker 5: other ones. Let's just say the exemplified by the Smith
[34:57] Speaker 5: and Western Bodyguard two point zero. Rugers got theirs. Others
[35:03] Speaker 5: have the same ones. And the triggers on all these guns,
[35:05] Speaker 5: even the striker fired guns, they've gotten so good. And
[35:10] Speaker 5: I mean, I hate to say it, hate to have
[35:14] Speaker 5: these words come out of my mouth, but honestly, the
[35:16] Speaker 5: triggers on these guns are rivaling a nineteen eleven trigger
[35:20] Speaker 5: these days.
[35:22] Speaker 4: And why is that.
[35:23] Speaker 5: Well, it's because we demand it. It's because we won't
[35:28] Speaker 5: put up with bad triggers anymore. People are starting to
[35:32] Speaker 5: figure out what good triggers are. And the more you shoot,
[35:36] Speaker 5: the more you go, Huh, that's a crummy trigger. It's creepy,
[35:40] Speaker 5: it's cruddy. It feels like somebody poor grit inside my gun.
[35:45] Speaker 5: It's a long trigger pull, it's got three places it
[35:47] Speaker 5: stops before it actually gets to the wall, and it
[35:49] Speaker 5: actually goes off. I get shoot that when no one
[35:53] Speaker 5: can shoot that. So people are demanding better triggers.
[36:00] Speaker 4: I think said that.
[36:03] Speaker 5: If you're pulling the trigger slowly and feeling all of that,
[36:10] Speaker 5: you're kind of setting yourself up to shoot badly, as
[36:14] Speaker 5: opposed to just pull the trigger, get on target and
[36:18] Speaker 5: pull the trigger and I yank it, not jerk it,
[36:22] Speaker 5: but just pull it and don't quite creep creep, creep creep,
[36:25] Speaker 5: trying to find the perfect place before it goes off. Now,
[36:28] Speaker 5: get the sites up on target, and don't worry all
[36:31] Speaker 5: that much about where the sites are. They're gonna take
[36:33] Speaker 5: care of themselves. Honestly, they really will. Your sites do
[36:37] Speaker 5: not wobble off of the bullseye guarantee you. When you're
[36:40] Speaker 5: aiming in and you're trying to make it just perfect,
[36:43] Speaker 5: we're worried about perfect. Pull the trigger and pull it again,
[36:47] Speaker 5: and pull it fast. Get the sights up where they're
[36:49] Speaker 5: supposed to go. Try to press the trigger without disturbing
[36:55] Speaker 5: the alignment of the sites. All right, let's go grab
[37:00] Speaker 5: Zachary online one out of Arlington, Texas. Hey Zachary, thank
[37:03] Speaker 5: you for calling in. What's on your mind?
[37:06] Speaker 6: Hi?
[37:06] Speaker 15: Tom, I'm calling about because I'm a new renter.
[37:09] Speaker 16: I'm calling about tips.
[37:10] Speaker 15: And tricks, things putting perspective leading up to the moment
[37:14] Speaker 15: the guy breaks down the door. If I'm having a
[37:16] Speaker 15: home intruder, Okay, what's your question. So theoretical scenario, guys
[37:24] Speaker 15: at the door bing and I know he's going to
[37:26] Speaker 15: get in.
[37:27] Speaker 14: I already have my gun.
[37:28] Speaker 15: I know that I have to shoot him, but what
[37:31] Speaker 15: are some things I can do. Let's say week stays
[37:33] Speaker 15: in advance. Just prepare for that kind of scenario that
[37:36] Speaker 15: I can do as a new renter.
[37:38] Speaker 5: Okay, first of all, go get a take a class somewhere. Seriously,
[37:42] Speaker 5: take a class. It's the most important thing you can do.
[37:45] Speaker 5: I don't care if it's a CLKA class or just
[37:47] Speaker 5: a good class on defensive shooting. You will learn things there.
[37:50] Speaker 5: Whe you're going to slap your head, go wow, I
[37:52] Speaker 5: never thought of that. It'll happen over and over again.
[37:55] Speaker 5: That is the most important thing you can do. I'm
[37:57] Speaker 5: serious having said that, have a plan, know what you're
[38:03] Speaker 5: gonna do. And this is where the classes come in.
[38:05] Speaker 5: You can't shoot him before they break in the door,
[38:07] Speaker 5: but you can get behind cover, whether it's behind a
[38:11] Speaker 5: bed somewhere. And frankly, I wouldn't be standing in the
[38:15] Speaker 5: living room. I'd go get behind a bed and be
[38:17] Speaker 5: on the phone, call a nine one one. I'd make
[38:19] Speaker 5: them come into my bedroom, you know what. And then
[38:22] Speaker 5: they're coming through the door. You know what they call
[38:23] Speaker 5: the door. They call it the fatal funnel because when
[38:27] Speaker 5: he comes in there, you know exactly where he is,
[38:29] Speaker 5: you know exactly what to do. And he's already broken
[38:31] Speaker 5: into your house, so it's completely justifiable. The other thing
[38:34] Speaker 5: you need, really need is a good powerful flashlight, and
[38:39] Speaker 5: you need to know how to shoot while you're holding
[38:41] Speaker 5: a flashlight.
[38:42] Speaker 4: Ah.
[38:42] Speaker 5: That goes back to getting some training and going to
[38:44] Speaker 5: a class. And so please, please please don't think just
[38:49] Speaker 5: because you have a gun that you have a solution.
[38:51] Speaker 5: It is the tool, but it's not the software, it's
[38:55] Speaker 5: not the knowledgy you need. And this is complicated. This
[38:58] Speaker 5: stuff is not easy. And everything you know about guns
[39:02] Speaker 5: that you've learned from the movies and from TV is
[39:05] Speaker 5: wrong and some of them could get you hurt, and
[39:08] Speaker 5: a lot of it will get you put in prison
[39:10] Speaker 5: because you screwed things up. That's where a class is,
[39:13] Speaker 5: whether it's a concealed carry class or a defensive class.
[39:16] Speaker 4: It's worth the money, all right.
[39:27] Speaker 5: So earlier I asked the question to needed somebody to
[39:30] Speaker 5: explain to me this whole thing. I've using magnets or
[39:33] Speaker 5: something to hold your gun to the underside of the
[39:35] Speaker 5: dash of your car or to your console. Rusty's got
[39:39] Speaker 5: a thought on that. He's called in from Straightford. Hey, Rusty,
[39:42] Speaker 5: fill me in. What do you think of a long
[39:43] Speaker 5: time listener.
[39:45] Speaker 16: I think term of radio and heard talking about the magnets.
[39:47] Speaker 12: I use them a lot.
[39:48] Speaker 16: I've got them in allful vehicles. So I stepped in,
[39:50] Speaker 16: I pulled it out of my belt, put on the
[39:51] Speaker 16: magnet between my knees, and somebody walks up. You can
[39:54] Speaker 16: have in your hand before they even know you moved.
[39:58] Speaker 4: Even in my.
[39:58] Speaker 16: House, I've got a full bait marble table down under
[40:01] Speaker 16: each corner, the gun under each corner. I'm sitting there
[40:03] Speaker 16: eating breakfast.
[40:03] Speaker 14: I got a gun and reach you. No, So I
[40:05] Speaker 14: love them.
[40:06] Speaker 5: So you when you get in your car, you have
[40:08] Speaker 5: to take a gun out of your holster and put
[40:10] Speaker 5: it on the magnet. And then when you get back
[40:12] Speaker 5: out of the car, you got to take it out
[40:13] Speaker 5: of there and put it back in the holster.
[40:15] Speaker 12: Right.
[40:15] Speaker 16: But the only thing is, you know, if you're setting
[40:17] Speaker 16: in your car and you got a gun in your belt,
[40:19] Speaker 16: it sometime might.
[40:19] Speaker 7: Be hard to reach for me.
[40:21] Speaker 13: And so I just stick it right there with the
[40:23] Speaker 13: six inches.
[40:23] Speaker 16: You know, you ride down the road one hand on
[40:25] Speaker 16: your leg and you're not six inches from your gun.
[40:27] Speaker 16: You know, without making any movement, you're loaded.
[40:30] Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, I just look at that and think, man,
[40:35] Speaker 5: that's a lot of gun handling back and forth. And
[40:39] Speaker 5: I guess maybe I have practiced enough to know I
[40:42] Speaker 5: know how to draw. Of course, I carry a gun
[40:45] Speaker 5: at the three o'clock position, and I know how to
[40:48] Speaker 5: get back there and draw my gun and get it
[40:50] Speaker 5: back out if I need it, and clearly if I
[40:52] Speaker 5: see somebody coming, if I think I'm gonna need it,
[40:54] Speaker 5: I'm gonna get it out and have it in my hand.
[40:56] Speaker 15: Uh.
[40:56] Speaker 5: The other thing I think about, let me ask you
[40:58] Speaker 5: about this. If something happened and I got to bail
[41:01] Speaker 5: out of that car in a hurry. We've had a wreck,
[41:03] Speaker 5: something's going on.
[41:04] Speaker 4: I got to go.
[41:06] Speaker 5: I don't want to have to find the gun or
[41:08] Speaker 5: worry about where it is. I know it's on my
[41:09] Speaker 5: side if I have to get out in a hurry.
[41:12] Speaker 13: Thoughts, Well, I carry my gun.
[41:16] Speaker 16: I'm left handed. Uh, so I can carry my gun
[41:18] Speaker 16: on my left side and puts my arm against the
[41:20] Speaker 16: door of the vehicle, which gives me limited mobility. So yeah,
[41:27] Speaker 16: and uh, I'm not sitting there with one leg my
[41:30] Speaker 16: left hand on my leg all the time you want.
[41:32] Speaker 16: When I'm driving, I'm not six inches from the gun.
[41:34] Speaker 16: I can reach and grab it, not even move my shoulder.
[41:36] Speaker 16: They don't even know if he made to move. That's
[41:38] Speaker 16: what I like about him.
[41:38] Speaker 14: Anyway.
[41:39] Speaker 5: I did not even think about the left handed aspect
[41:43] Speaker 5: of it. And yeah, you're right, your your arm is
[41:46] Speaker 5: jammed up against the door and you don't have as much.
[41:49] Speaker 4: Room, right huh.
[41:52] Speaker 5: All right, Well think that's why I was asked. I said,
[41:55] Speaker 5: all right, somebody explained this to me, and you have
[41:57] Speaker 5: brought up a part of it. I just didn't think
[42:00] Speaker 5: at all. And so Russie, thank you. I appreciate that. Okay,
[42:04] Speaker 5: all right, we've got to give us some credit and
[42:07] Speaker 5: some leeway on that one.
[42:09] Speaker 4: It's not something I want to do.
[42:10] Speaker 5: I'm not quite there, but I can see where he's
[42:14] Speaker 5: coming from there. Okay, interesting, very good, Thank you, rush you.
[42:17] Speaker 5: I appreciate the call. I may have been a little
[42:22] Speaker 5: quick with our caller who has asked about a renter
[42:25] Speaker 5: being a renter in the apartment. And one of the
[42:28] Speaker 5: things I wanted to say is he said, well, you know,
[42:30] Speaker 5: if a guy's kicking on the door, breaking the door,
[42:32] Speaker 5: I know I'm gonna have to shoot him.
[42:33] Speaker 7: Well maybe not.
[42:34] Speaker 5: Let's back up. This is where the training comes in.
[42:37] Speaker 5: If you start out thinking, I know I got to
[42:39] Speaker 5: shoot this guy, then that's what you're gonna do. But
[42:43] Speaker 5: if you say, okay, I have other tools in my
[42:46] Speaker 5: toolbox that I can use, and it may be with
[42:50] Speaker 5: that powerful flashlight and ask somebody skick it on the door,
[42:54] Speaker 5: you can yell I have a gun. I have called
[42:58] Speaker 5: the police. If you men here, I will shoot you.
[43:04] Speaker 5: That's not a bad command. It's particularly a really good
[43:09] Speaker 5: command if you're already on the phone with nine Poet
[43:12] Speaker 5: one because they're recording the call. If you call them,
[43:15] Speaker 5: told her what your address is. There's a guy kicking
[43:17] Speaker 5: in the door, I need police now, and you stay
[43:19] Speaker 5: on the phone and then they hear you saying don't
[43:23] Speaker 5: come in.
[43:23] Speaker 4: I have a gun.
[43:24] Speaker 5: If you come in here, I'm gonna shoot you. I've
[43:26] Speaker 5: already called the police. That's not a bad thing to
[43:30] Speaker 5: have in the recording. So but starting off with the
[43:34] Speaker 5: idea that well, if he comes to my house and
[43:36] Speaker 5: kick to the door, I'm going to shoot him, or
[43:39] Speaker 5: I want to try to avoid that at all possible,
[43:41] Speaker 5: And if I can get him to stop by yelling
[43:43] Speaker 5: at him, man, I'm all about that. That's a good day.
[43:46] Speaker 5: Any day you don't have to shoot somebody. It's a
[43:47] Speaker 5: good day, all right, So why do you miss. We're
[43:50] Speaker 5: going to fill in the blanks for you.
[43:51] Speaker 4: We're we come back.
[43:52] Speaker 5: We're going to talk to an expert instructor who will
[43:55] Speaker 5: tell you stop, ain't
