[0:03] Speaker 1: So you've made it through three hours of the regular
[0:06] Speaker 1: show on terrestrial radio and you.
[0:08] Speaker 2: Wanted a little bit more.
[0:09] Speaker 1: So that's why you found the gun Talk After Show podcast,
[0:11] Speaker 1: where we saved all the best things that we can't
[0:14] Speaker 1: say on regular radio.
[0:15] Speaker 3: Now here's Tom, Michelle and Jim for the gun Talk
[0:17] Speaker 3: after Show.
[0:19] Speaker 2: It is Independence Day weekend and we're now in the
[0:23] Speaker 2: after show part of that with Michelle and Jim.
[0:25] Speaker 4: Hey guys, Oh hello, hello, happy two fifty brother Yeah,
[0:29] Speaker 4: no kid, and had a heck of a party here,
[0:31] Speaker 4: had a good time, look like it? Yeah, nice of its?
[0:33] Speaker 2: And pictures, Yeah, I send you some pictures. We got, man,
[0:36] Speaker 2: we got flags everywhere.
[0:37] Speaker 4: Holy cal you and all your gun fighter friends.
[0:40] Speaker 2: That's right, gunfighters, that's right. I don't want to be
[0:43] Speaker 2: in a gunfight, but I do want to be able
[0:45] Speaker 2: to do that if I happened.
[0:46] Speaker 4: Amen. Amen.
[0:48] Speaker 2: It's not just fun to learn this stuff. You know
[0:50] Speaker 2: what shooting well is fun, It's shooting is difficult and
[0:55] Speaker 2: you never really master it, you know, unless you're one
[0:58] Speaker 2: of those people can put all the shots in the
[0:59] Speaker 2: same hole. I haven't met that person yet.
[1:01] Speaker 4: Well, is that a setup for Georgia Online one?
[1:04] Speaker 2: It is exactly for George. Hey George, you're on here.
[1:08] Speaker 2: How you doing, partner?
[1:10] Speaker 5: Pretty good, Tom. I've been a listener in your show
[1:13] Speaker 5: quite a while, and quite frankly, one of the issues
[1:18] Speaker 5: that seemed to come up more than once in a
[1:21] Speaker 5: while is complaints from the shooter saying that no matter
[1:27] Speaker 5: how he moves his sights on his handgun, he cannot
[1:31] Speaker 5: seem to get him moved over far enough to get
[1:35] Speaker 5: the point of impact where his point of aim is.
[1:39] Speaker 5: And I got a commentary here that after many years
[1:43] Speaker 5: of files and tribulations in the sport myself, I have
[1:49] Speaker 5: come up with a solution that worked for me. And
[1:52] Speaker 5: quite frankly, I even grafted out for some of the
[1:55] Speaker 5: shooters and showed them with the little diagram that I
[2:00] Speaker 5: put together as to what they're where their point of
[2:03] Speaker 5: impact is, and what they're doing to cause that point
[2:06] Speaker 5: of impact being other than the point of being.
[2:09] Speaker 2: You're not saying that if the problem is actually the
[2:11] Speaker 2: shooter out the sites? Are you.
[2:15] Speaker 5: Exactly what I'm saying?
[2:16] Speaker 2: Answer? Yes, sir, it is all right.
[2:19] Speaker 3: It be so formal and.
[2:23] Speaker 4: Nothing very diplomatic.
[2:25] Speaker 2: You can you can share it.
[2:26] Speaker 5: Tell us well, quite frankly, uh, it starts off with
[2:32] Speaker 5: the placement of the gun in your hand. Uh. I
[2:36] Speaker 5: have found that if you're shooting for accuracy, to start
[2:41] Speaker 5: off with the smartest thing you could do is take
[2:44] Speaker 5: your weekend, put the gun in your weekend and place
[2:47] Speaker 5: it in your master hand, and you're going to be
[2:50] Speaker 5: shooting with uh. For that, you are assuring yourself that
[2:55] Speaker 5: you are in the right position with the firearm in
[2:59] Speaker 5: your hand and ready for business. The next thing that
[3:03] Speaker 5: comes up is the biggest enemy you have with a
[3:07] Speaker 5: handgun is your fingertips and your little finger. If you
[3:14] Speaker 5: apply pressure with either your fingertips and are your little finger,
[3:19] Speaker 5: you are going to dramatically affect the point of impact
[3:24] Speaker 5: of that bullet. For example, the impact difference is at
[3:30] Speaker 5: fifty yards. For example, if you're off with your sites,
[3:35] Speaker 5: as much as a thousandth of an inch, one thousandth
[3:38] Speaker 5: of an inch at fifty yards on a handgun will
[3:41] Speaker 5: affect the point of impact by at least one inch.
[3:47] Speaker 2: Yeah. Just the physics, the geometry of it of moving
[3:50] Speaker 2: the muzzle, that little bit. You know where you are,
[3:53] Speaker 2: you basically it's a cone. You are an angle out there.
[3:56] Speaker 2: So if you move the gun just any smallest amount
[3:59] Speaker 2: you get some deflection way out there.
[4:01] Speaker 5: Sure makes sense, Yes, sir, that's uh, that is fact.
[4:05] Speaker 2: I don't want to know about what what do you
[4:07] Speaker 2: talk about with this this pinky finger and all that.
[4:10] Speaker 2: I'm not following.
[4:12] Speaker 5: Well, if your pinky finger applies pressure to the bottom
[4:16] Speaker 5: of the grip, what's going to happen is you're going
[4:18] Speaker 5: to be shooting high into the left. How much trigger
[4:22] Speaker 5: you take with your trigger finger makes a difference too,
[4:25] Speaker 5: if you have If you take too much trigger and
[4:28] Speaker 5: your finger is covering let's say, to the first knuckle
[4:33] Speaker 5: before the tip of your finger. If you're taking more
[4:38] Speaker 5: trigger than what you need, you should be using the
[4:42] Speaker 5: pad of that of your finger on that trigger placement.
[4:47] Speaker 4: Right.
[4:47] Speaker 5: If you take too much trigger, what's going to end
[4:49] Speaker 5: up happening is you are going to be moving the
[4:52] Speaker 5: muzzle muzzle to the right then, or a right handed.
[4:58] Speaker 2: Shooter hand shooter, possibly left hand.
[5:02] Speaker 5: Shooter, it'll be going the opposite way.
[5:05] Speaker 2: Okay, I'm probably going to end up I'm probably going
[5:07] Speaker 2: to end up disagreeing with you on some of this stuff,
[5:09] Speaker 2: So just go ahead.
[5:11] Speaker 5: Well, the uh uh, the movement of the gun also
[5:18] Speaker 5: is going to change if you apply pressure with your
[5:21] Speaker 5: fingertips on the grip, and this I have taken up
[5:27] Speaker 5: not only physically, but also in using a ransom rest. Uh,
[5:34] Speaker 5: you know, if you're going to use a ransom rest
[5:38] Speaker 5: for example, Now.
[5:39] Speaker 2: Are you Are you talking about shooting one handed?
[5:43] Speaker 5: I'm talking about shooting one handed? Yes, sir.
[5:46] Speaker 2: Oh, okay, okay, okay, I'm I'm just catching up here
[5:50] Speaker 2: because this is not making sense to me at all
[5:52] Speaker 2: at this point. So you're talking about one handed bulls
[5:55] Speaker 2: eye type shooting, yes, sir, exactly, thank you. Okay, all right, right,
[6:00] Speaker 2: We're going to back up and regroup from this because
[6:02] Speaker 2: I'm thinking that a two handed grip and this was
[6:05] Speaker 2: not adding up to me at all. I find I
[6:07] Speaker 2: got oh, okay, okay, now I've caught up with you.
[6:09] Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm just slow on this.
[6:11] Speaker 5: Yeah, two handed grip, you know, requires different sets a
[6:16] Speaker 5: different set of geometry being.
[6:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, all right, I'm sorry, go ahead, I'm with
[6:22] Speaker 2: you now. Yeah.
[6:23] Speaker 5: It's as a matter of fact, a friend of mine
[6:29] Speaker 5: who was on my pistol team for some time, had
[6:33] Speaker 5: a very problem that we're talking about here. So I
[6:37] Speaker 5: talked to the owner of the indoor range where I
[6:39] Speaker 5: had met with him and we set up a camera
[6:43] Speaker 5: focused on nothing but the grip of the gun when
[6:48] Speaker 5: he was shooting, and you had to play it back
[6:52] Speaker 5: frame by frame to really slow it down to catch
[6:56] Speaker 5: where the mistake was being made. But what he was
[6:59] Speaker 5: doing is he was applying pressure on the grip with
[7:03] Speaker 5: his fingertips as he was squeezing the trigger. Yeah, after
[7:10] Speaker 5: we shouted had him shoot a couple of runs, we
[7:12] Speaker 5: went back and we viewed all of this that we
[7:15] Speaker 5: had recorded with our camera and he says, well, I'll
[7:19] Speaker 5: be dugne. He says something as simple as that. I said, yes, Jerry,
[7:24] Speaker 5: I said that that's you know, that's what it comes
[7:26] Speaker 5: down to, the smallest little detail.
[7:28] Speaker 2: George. I've heard that described as milking the grip, where
[7:33] Speaker 2: you're actually kind of, if you will, it's kind of
[7:35] Speaker 2: like milking a cow and your fingers are working into
[7:38] Speaker 2: the grip. Again, for everybody to understand, we are talking
[7:41] Speaker 2: about shooting one handed, bulls eye style shooting. It's a
[7:44] Speaker 2: whole different thing than what most people are doing today.
[7:47] Speaker 2: But by milking that grip, I just say, you're putting pressure.
[7:52] Speaker 2: You know what it is. You're really you're changing the pressure.
[7:55] Speaker 2: If you could grab it consistently that way, that'd be
[7:58] Speaker 2: one thing. But anytime you start changing things up, you're
[8:01] Speaker 2: going to move the muzzle exactly.
[8:03] Speaker 5: And that's that's why I said that to start with
[8:08] Speaker 5: the smartest thing to do if you're shooting for accuracy. Now,
[8:11] Speaker 5: defensive shooting is different ballgame. You know. It's it's quick draw,
[8:15] Speaker 5: a quick shoot, get that first shot off before your
[8:19] Speaker 5: threat is going to cause you some damage. But by
[8:25] Speaker 5: placing the gun in your hand with your weekend and
[8:32] Speaker 5: getting a firm grip on it and let it rip
[8:35] Speaker 5: from there, that's that's where you have to begin, because
[8:39] Speaker 5: the position of the hand on the grip, uh is
[8:43] Speaker 5: going to change. You just picked the gun up off
[8:48] Speaker 5: the table, for example, and start.
[8:50] Speaker 2: Shooting, and we do the same thing with two handed grips.
[8:53] Speaker 2: So it's got to be a consistent grip each time. Otherwise,
[8:56] Speaker 2: if you're changing it up, you're going to get different movement,
[8:59] Speaker 2: different pressure points, and then bullet's not going to the
[9:01] Speaker 2: same place. George, I'm gonna have to keep moving here,
[9:04] Speaker 2: but I appreciate it, you know. I'm glad I finally
[9:06] Speaker 2: caught up, because man, I was just trying to think
[9:09] Speaker 2: and thinking, man, this does not make sense. I'm gonna
[9:10] Speaker 2: have to disagree. And then it's just like the light
[9:12] Speaker 2: bulb when I went, oh wait, we're talking bullsy. Yes,
[9:15] Speaker 2: I'll just make sense now, Okay, I'm with you. I
[9:18] Speaker 2: had to get on board. Thanks George. I appreciate the call, sir, yeah,
[9:22] Speaker 2: because he was saying, put the gun in your hand
[9:24] Speaker 2: with one hand the other, and I'm thinking, how are
[9:27] Speaker 2: you going to build a grip like that? Yeah, I've
[9:31] Speaker 2: just gone I did a total flashback way back. I
[9:34] Speaker 2: did Bullseye shooting a billion years ago, and back then
[9:40] Speaker 2: it was really interesting. We would try to not have
[9:43] Speaker 2: the side of your the palm of your hand have
[9:46] Speaker 2: contacts with the side of the gun. It would have
[9:50] Speaker 2: pressure coming back from your fingers into the front strap
[9:53] Speaker 2: and on the back of your hand into the back
[9:56] Speaker 2: of the gun, so you could just apply pressure with
[9:59] Speaker 2: your finger. I'm sure they have much better technique now.
[10:02] Speaker 2: And that was probably wrong because I didn't do much
[10:04] Speaker 2: that was right way back then.
[10:05] Speaker 4: Yeah, but back then your bench was a torontosaurus or something,
[10:09] Speaker 4: wasn't it.
[10:09] Speaker 2: That's true, you know, but you know they were very
[10:11] Speaker 2: slow moving, so it was okay you're just using the
[10:14] Speaker 2: nice bit there you go, oh okay, well right, yeah,
[10:18] Speaker 2: it isn't interesting that we don't hear anybody much talking
[10:22] Speaker 2: about bulls eye pistol shooting anymore. I mean, I know
[10:25] Speaker 2: it's still there, and in fact, as we're speaking right now,
[10:28] Speaker 2: they're doing it.
[10:29] Speaker 3: They can't parry, right, it's coming up, yeah, coming up.
[10:32] Speaker 2: Yeah. So I mean, so there is still bulls eye shooting,
[10:35] Speaker 2: but it gets no attention. But well, partly because it
[10:39] Speaker 2: is the most boring thing in the world to watch.
[10:42] Speaker 2: It's a sectat or sport.
[10:43] Speaker 3: Right, oh my god, it's not that fun.
[10:45] Speaker 1: And you know, we're into an instant gratification, something breaking,
[10:50] Speaker 1: something moving extremely.
[10:51] Speaker 2: Fast, running and moving. Yeah yeah yeah, watching people shoot
[10:55] Speaker 2: bullseye pistol. You could watch paint dry and be more excited.
[11:00] Speaker 3: Grass grow, by the way.
[11:01] Speaker 2: Rush grow, yeah, pick your whatever it is. Yes, it's
[11:04] Speaker 2: like well, and that was always our challenge. We were
[11:07] Speaker 2: trying to create interesting TV shows about shooting before we
[11:11] Speaker 2: had the good action shooting stuff. Go try to make
[11:15] Speaker 2: bullseye shooting look interesting on TV.
[11:18] Speaker 3: Just slowing down frames isn't enough.
[11:22] Speaker 4: As if it's not slow enough as it is, right,
[11:25] Speaker 4: this isn't the stance and everything different. I mean, you're
[11:27] Speaker 4: you're standing.
[11:30] Speaker 2: Sideways, you got your like left hand in your pocket,
[11:33] Speaker 2: and you got that out there, and oh my gosh,
[11:36] Speaker 2: in the rapid fire part, you still have like a
[11:39] Speaker 2: day and a half to shoot five shots. It's like nuts,
[11:44] Speaker 2: It's like, really, come on, rapid fire, give me a
[11:46] Speaker 2: break people.
[11:47] Speaker 4: How'd your time it? It was a calendar.
[11:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, I had Sunde turn it.
[11:56] Speaker 2: I mean, look, don't get me wrong, it's fun to do.
[11:59] Speaker 2: I like it. Sorry, I got a car before we
[12:01] Speaker 2: go to the break. I got my fun bullseye shooting story.
[12:05] Speaker 2: This would be seventy five seventy six, and the guy
[12:08] Speaker 2: that was getting me going into it, this would be
[12:10] Speaker 2: about the time that the Boeing seven forty seven was introduced.
[12:15] Speaker 2: The two are going to make sense momentarily, I hope.
[12:19] Speaker 2: And this guy was at a match and a lot
[12:21] Speaker 2: of times, as you know, Michelle, a lot of times
[12:24] Speaker 2: your shooting ranges are very close to airports because I
[12:27] Speaker 2: figure they're both noisy, let's put them together.
[12:31] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
[12:32] Speaker 2: So he's all lined up, he's waiting for the targets
[12:35] Speaker 2: to turn shooting at forty five and there are targets
[12:38] Speaker 2: turn and then you could shoot your five shots. It's timed,
[12:41] Speaker 2: and then they turned back, and he's just about I mean,
[12:45] Speaker 2: they're just about there. And just as the targets turn,
[12:50] Speaker 2: this seven forty seven comes from right in front of
[12:53] Speaker 2: him where he's looking, comes right over him. He said,
[12:55] Speaker 2: he stood there with his gun out and stared at
[12:58] Speaker 2: this monster airplane coming right over the top of him.
[13:02] Speaker 2: It passes by. He looks back at his sights, and
[13:05] Speaker 2: the targets have already turned back. He never got a
[13:06] Speaker 2: singer shot. Talk about your distraction, I'll.
[13:14] Speaker 1: Do it, okay, And that's why he was in second place.
[13:19] Speaker 2: Now, yeah, lucky, right, correct, right, all right, when we
[13:26] Speaker 2: come back, we'll talk a little bit more about then
[13:28] Speaker 2: maybe America done.
[13:32] Speaker 6: From the range to the field. CZ firearms are built
[13:36] Speaker 6: to perform when it counts. Known for accuracy, durability, and reliability.
[13:41] Speaker 6: CZ stands apart. CZ built for those who demand more
[13:45] Speaker 6: CZ Firearms dot com.
[13:54] Speaker 2: All right, it is, in fact, well this weekend at
[13:57] Speaker 2: least two hundred and fifty years since the declaration of independence.
[14:00] Speaker 2: It's worthwhile, guys to go back and read the decoration.
[14:04] Speaker 2: I mean, it does have in the middle of a
[14:06] Speaker 2: whole list of grievances against the king, which, oh yeah,
[14:10] Speaker 2: would that make this the real No, king's days take
[14:20] Speaker 2: a number. There's a lot of people hate me.
[14:24] Speaker 4: Get in line.
[14:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right, ads.
[14:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, it's an amazing document when you
[14:30] Speaker 2: think about it. They got together and did this thing
[14:32] Speaker 2: and said, yeah, we're we're declaring that we are going
[14:36] Speaker 2: to be treasonless against the crown.
[14:40] Speaker 4: It was signed on with a second or third, wasn't
[14:42] Speaker 4: They had to wait for somebody to come into and
[14:45] Speaker 4: oh yeah.
[14:45] Speaker 2: They issued it on the fourth. Yeah. In fact, if
[14:48] Speaker 2: you want, okay for a fun if you're into that
[14:53] Speaker 2: history lesson. There is a movie that's the musical seventeen
[14:57] Speaker 2: seventy six, and it is a musical. It was a
[15:01] Speaker 2: play Broadway play about the I guess Constitutional Convention, not
[15:08] Speaker 2: know what. I'm sorry. When they got together in Philadelphia
[15:11] Speaker 2: to create the declaration and all the different players. It's
[15:15] Speaker 2: kind of like an early version of Hamilton, if you will,
[15:17] Speaker 2: right from you know, fifty years before Hamilton whatever. But
[15:21] Speaker 2: just fun. It'll get together of learning about the history
[15:25] Speaker 2: of it and the players and all.
[15:27] Speaker 4: Of that, which kind of leads nicely into my gun
[15:30] Speaker 4: of America choice. I had the Red Rider too. But
[15:34] Speaker 4: somebody's Kurt I think was stolen Thunder. I will find him.
[15:40] Speaker 4: I would have to say, actually the Brown Bess was America's, right.
[15:46] Speaker 3: Jim, you can't be stealing my thunder.
[15:48] Speaker 4: Really? Oh, here we go, because.
[15:52] Speaker 2: Are we going to have to separate you to again? Gee?
[15:56] Speaker 4: The revolutionary guys they did use it like their farm
[15:58] Speaker 4: implements and stuff, the firearms that they had. But a
[16:01] Speaker 4: lot of the times they captured or killed British they
[16:04] Speaker 4: used their stuff, and a lot of British were killed
[16:07] Speaker 4: with their own guns. Ah shocks, So the best damn. So,
[16:12] Speaker 4: I mean it's without because we said, well that this
[16:14] Speaker 4: one gun won the West. This gun did that. Yeah,
[16:17] Speaker 4: but we wouldn't have had the West to win if
[16:18] Speaker 4: we didn't get.
[16:19] Speaker 2: Past this would have had a country.
[16:20] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[16:23] Speaker 3: Well and just like that.
[16:24] Speaker 1: Of course, my thought was, you know, with the whole
[16:27] Speaker 1: American independence, the American long rifle or Kentucky Pennsylvania.
[16:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, people said they call the Kentucky long riflecept that
[16:37] Speaker 2: was the Pennsylvania long ride.
[16:39] Speaker 1: Yes, right right, but uh yeah, I mean they use
[16:43] Speaker 1: it for hunting deer and hunting redcoats.
[16:46] Speaker 3: I suppose that's right.
[16:48] Speaker 2: And I don't know if you were able to listen
[16:50] Speaker 2: to it or if you were handling the phones, Michelle,
[16:53] Speaker 2: but our guest in second hour was talking about the
[16:57] Speaker 2: re enactments and the you know how you get up
[16:59] Speaker 2: all both civil war and revolutionary war guns and we
[17:04] Speaker 2: were talking some details there and think, yeah.
[17:07] Speaker 1: No, I didn't get so the phones were busy there
[17:09] Speaker 1: for quite a while. She was doing your nails, dip in,
[17:14] Speaker 1: doing manicures.
[17:15] Speaker 2: Yeah that's right, catching up on the Housewives of La
[17:19] Speaker 2: or whatever.
[17:19] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's totally me.
[17:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
[17:24] Speaker 3: Oh god, but no, it is.
[17:27] Speaker 1: It's the amount of history that we have in our
[17:32] Speaker 1: guns is amazing. And we talked about this like last
[17:36] Speaker 1: week with somebody calling in and I was like, come up,
[17:38] Speaker 1: where are you this week? With the nineteen oh three
[17:41] Speaker 1: again an iconic piece, the garrand the one carving. I mean,
[17:46] Speaker 1: all of these are our military. Everything starts with the military,
[17:51] Speaker 1: it does typically does. Yeah, and all of that comes
[17:54] Speaker 1: from you know those histories in still active. I mean
[18:00] Speaker 1: you shoot true, you know old Mississippi guns and muskets
[18:06] Speaker 1: and car beings and you know smith carbings and there's
[18:09] Speaker 1: lots and lots and lots of them out there. If
[18:11] Speaker 1: you've ever gone to Gettysburg and walked around the museums,
[18:16] Speaker 1: the amount of collections that are there just kind of
[18:19] Speaker 1: blows your mind with all different firearms and implements that
[18:23] Speaker 1: we're used. But yeah, it is iconic. It's it's our history,
[18:27] Speaker 1: and it's deep in the firearm sides. And these aren't
[18:31] Speaker 1: even firearms, right, the muskets, that's right.
[18:34] Speaker 2: But just thinking about that in this glorious two hundred
[18:38] Speaker 2: and fiftieth celebration, it might be a time for folks
[18:42] Speaker 2: to make a commitment to say, you know, I'm going
[18:44] Speaker 2: to go see some of the great firearms museums. And
[18:48] Speaker 2: there are some wonderful ones.
[18:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, Gettysburg in Virginia with the NRA, Cody.
[18:54] Speaker 2: That's right, Cody, I mean, and there are lesser known ones.
[18:58] Speaker 2: I can Boise the Idaho They've got a great museum
[19:01] Speaker 2: downtown with firearms in it. There's I think it's the
[19:06] Speaker 2: Davis Museum in Oklahoma. I remember, right. The World War
[19:10] Speaker 2: Two Museum in New Orleans is amazing. Now, it doesn't
[19:13] Speaker 2: have a great firearms display, but it is It do
[19:18] Speaker 2: have some firearms in it, but it's a great museum
[19:21] Speaker 2: about the war in the Pacific in Europe people. That's
[19:26] Speaker 2: really worthwhile. And also in Kansas City they have the
[19:30] Speaker 2: World War One Museum, which is terrific.
[19:34] Speaker 3: And I would add another one onto there.
[19:36] Speaker 1: And again it's not that maybe they have a ton
[19:38] Speaker 1: of firearms or any kind of you know, gun implementation,
[19:42] Speaker 1: but they do have a great museum down at Fort
[19:45] Speaker 1: Benning and the Infantry Museum is a great place if
[19:49] Speaker 1: you're into history and wartime. And of course you know
[19:54] Speaker 1: those buildings used to be just like they were across
[19:58] Speaker 1: the country in many.
[19:59] Speaker 3: Bases, all the World War Old type of huts.
[20:03] Speaker 1: Everything is now modernized, the barracks. Yeah, but yeah, it's
[20:08] Speaker 1: it's amazing. And they you know a lot of these
[20:11] Speaker 1: places with these museums, they you know, take down a
[20:15] Speaker 1: building and they move it to those museums and keep
[20:17] Speaker 1: a piece just so everybody could see what it used
[20:19] Speaker 1: to be like. And we need to revisit that, you know,
[20:23] Speaker 1: we don't need to We need to understand and be
[20:26] Speaker 1: able to discuss our history, not change and pretend it
[20:30] Speaker 1: didn't happen, right.
[20:32] Speaker 2: Pull down statues and try to rewrite it exactly we
[20:36] Speaker 2: had a big gun that flew by here yesterday.
[20:39] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, tell us that story.
[20:41] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, we have our house here, our little
[20:44] Speaker 2: neighborhoods built around the airstrip, so we've got a bunch
[20:47] Speaker 2: of pilots here. So we got a little grass airstrip
[20:49] Speaker 2: there for a little bush planes things like that, and
[20:54] Speaker 2: out of the blue, I hear this sound yesterday on
[20:59] Speaker 2: July the fourth Independence Day, and I look out the
[21:02] Speaker 2: window just in time to see it streaking doing a
[21:07] Speaker 2: very low fly by on a little grass strip. Is
[21:11] Speaker 2: an eight ten Warthog, my favorite aircraft, military aircraft, absolutely lovely.
[21:18] Speaker 2: I mean I would if I could have flown the military,
[21:20] Speaker 2: that would have been it for me. But like I said,
[21:23] Speaker 2: it was a gun that flew by because it is
[21:25] Speaker 2: a thirty millimeter cannon that happens to have at around it. Yes,
[21:31] Speaker 2: it just one of a machine. Holy And what was
[21:34] Speaker 2: going on is that the pilot is a friend of
[21:37] Speaker 2: one of our neighbors here, and he was doing displays
[21:40] Speaker 2: at several different communities around here where they do flyovers,
[21:44] Speaker 2: and it just so happens that we're located right between
[21:47] Speaker 2: two of the places he was doing official flyovers. So
[21:50] Speaker 2: we got a freebie. It was so cool. It's like, okay,
[21:55] Speaker 2: that is not a cub going by there. Look at
[21:58] Speaker 2: that thing.
[22:01] Speaker 1: So in your I guess museum adventures, not only are
[22:05] Speaker 1: you going to some of the different firearm and you know,
[22:08] Speaker 1: maybe military or war museums, you're also hitting some of
[22:12] Speaker 1: the aircraft museums.
[22:14] Speaker 2: Oh and if you're going to do that, you got
[22:17] Speaker 2: to go right Patterson.
[22:18] Speaker 3: I was just going to ask you if you've ever been.
[22:21] Speaker 3: It's awesome, Yeah.
[22:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. The right Patterson Museum is you know, of course,
[22:26] Speaker 2: it's Ohio being the birthplace of aviation in America, right
[22:31] Speaker 2: brothers or wert those guys. Yeah, what's the space But yeah, no, seriously,
[22:37] Speaker 2: if you like museums, you like that kind of thing,
[22:40] Speaker 2: I would put right Patterson. And also the Smithsonian Air
[22:45] Speaker 2: and Space Museum. And it's the Udvar Hazy, which is
[22:51] Speaker 2: not in d C. It's actually out in Leesburg, Virginia,
[22:57] Speaker 2: and it is an amazing aviation museum there. So there
[23:02] Speaker 2: you go.
[23:03] Speaker 4: I had a near guns story this week time. I
[23:05] Speaker 4: thought was pretty pretty interesting perspective.
[23:08] Speaker 2: I tried carrying near guns that just weren't as effective.
[23:12] Speaker 2: What happened?
[23:13] Speaker 4: He almost cheaper. U. No, that's air gun air guns.
[23:18] Speaker 4: I was at a car wash and I was doing
[23:20] Speaker 4: my vacuuming thing, and I just just kind of gave
[23:23] Speaker 4: me an interesting take on us gun owners versus non
[23:26] Speaker 4: gun owners, or or even worse, the gun panickers. Right,
[23:30] Speaker 4: this guy pulls up in his ted nugent wanna be vehicle,
[23:35] Speaker 4: and I say, want to be because it wasn't a
[23:37] Speaker 4: Ford Bronco like it should have been. It was a
[23:38] Speaker 4: It was a jeep and it was all camoed out,
[23:40] Speaker 4: and he had the racks and everything out. It was
[23:42] Speaker 4: it was you know, he's an outdoorsman. He's obviously camel
[23:44] Speaker 4: paint job, the whole strap. He's obvious an outdoorsman. So
[23:47] Speaker 4: I'm kind of, you know, I see him, and I'm
[23:48] Speaker 4: aware of him, but I wasn't wasn't anything weird. So
[23:51] Speaker 4: I'm vacuumating, looking around and stuff, and he goes in
[23:54] Speaker 4: the back and he opened up his hatch and he
[23:57] Speaker 4: pulls out something that looks like a rifle stock, the
[24:00] Speaker 4: butt end of a rifle stock. And I'm thinking, for
[24:03] Speaker 4: a split second, is that a rifle? And then I
[24:06] Speaker 4: switched into non gun owner mode and said, wow, I
[24:10] Speaker 4: could see how people would be like panicing, Oh my god,
[24:12] Speaker 4: this guy's got a rifle, calling nine to one one
[24:14] Speaker 4: and everything else. So I just I'm thinking, wonder what
[24:18] Speaker 4: kind of rifle he's got shot the bolt.
[24:21] Speaker 2: That, Yeah, I want to find out.
[24:23] Speaker 4: It could be cool, right, So I stopped vacuuming a
[24:25] Speaker 4: little bit, you know, just keeping an eye and I'm
[24:27] Speaker 4: not like, oh, he's going to do something, just I
[24:29] Speaker 4: want to see. And he turns, he pulls his hand in. Well,
[24:33] Speaker 4: it turns out, you know, I holds it. You know
[24:35] Speaker 4: how you hold the vacuum, You've got the nozzle you
[24:39] Speaker 4: and it's kind of flared out at the end of stuff. Well,
[24:41] Speaker 4: he wasn't holding it like you or I was. He
[24:43] Speaker 4: was holding it totally reverse upside down. So when he
[24:47] Speaker 4: pulled back on his back, all I saw was the
[24:49] Speaker 4: triangular thing and black plastic. I'm going and you think, God,
[24:54] Speaker 4: I think it's a gun. Yeah, And I didn't panic obviously,
[24:57] Speaker 4: just oh he's got a rifle. He wasn't pulling anything out,
[25:00] Speaker 4: waving at anybody, was just moving stuff around in his hatch.
[25:03] Speaker 2: And you're thinking, oh, we're having a gun show. Cool.
[25:05] Speaker 2: I get mine, and I'm thinking what if.
[25:07] Speaker 4: Somebody else from my angle saw the same thing.
[25:11] Speaker 2: Oh my god, he's got a rifle.
[25:12] Speaker 4: He's got to come on. It's just interesting to see
[25:16] Speaker 4: how you know, your first impression isn't always what you think.
[25:20] Speaker 4: Profiling was hiding behind the fender with looking at the top,
[25:24] Speaker 4: just observe it. Turned my baseball hat around and I
[25:28] Speaker 4: was ready.
[25:29] Speaker 2: Jim fired a couple of warning shots through that guy's
[25:31] Speaker 2: engine block.
[25:32] Speaker 4: No, no, no, I saved that for you know, Fourth July celebration.
[25:35] Speaker 4: Like everybody else, responsible gun owners. People are idiots. I
[25:39] Speaker 4: tell you, man, I haven't seen the numbers at how
[25:41] Speaker 4: many kids or adults or you know, people in general
[25:43] Speaker 4: have got hurt. But you know, somebody got hurt, somebody
[25:45] Speaker 4: got killed because somebody's being an idiot with fire well not.
[25:51] Speaker 2: Just with guns, with boats and fireworks and everything. Helse
[25:54] Speaker 2: to me it is true. Not I was gonna say
[25:59] Speaker 2: not every but actually the truth is very few people
[26:03] Speaker 2: are as focused on safety as we are. Ye And
[26:07] Speaker 2: it's like, yeah, oh we had think if I can
[26:13] Speaker 2: tell this story, guy with an airplane took off from
[26:19] Speaker 2: our airstrip yesterday after an experienced guy after asking for
[26:24] Speaker 2: advice and getting it from a very experienced pilot here
[26:30] Speaker 2: and then doing everything exactly wrong and staggered off the
[26:34] Speaker 2: airstrip with overloaded and a hot day with a family aboard,
[26:44] Speaker 2: and we're just we're just going, I mean, because we said,
[26:47] Speaker 2: you know, look, we don't fly when it's hot here.
[26:50] Speaker 2: We don't because of density altitude, which the airplane for
[26:53] Speaker 2: those who don't know, the airplane performs very poorly. It
[26:56] Speaker 2: may not even be able to take off on a
[26:59] Speaker 2: shortish strip, and then when you start adding weight to it,
[27:03] Speaker 2: that decreases the performance. And it just went on and
[27:06] Speaker 2: on and on. It's like, yeah, you know, just people,
[27:11] Speaker 2: if you are unsure about a situation somewhere and you're
[27:14] Speaker 2: talking to a local who has experience with it, stop
[27:17] Speaker 2: and pay attention. You're getting the graduate course right here.
[27:23] Speaker 4: Or know, why would you even ask if you're not
[27:25] Speaker 4: going to follow it anyway?
[27:27] Speaker 2: There's that This leads me to a story. When I
[27:35] Speaker 2: was in Alaska, the state epidemiologists there studied aircraft accidents
[27:41] Speaker 2: as though they were a disease, which I thought was interesting.
[27:46] Speaker 2: But the thing that came up with, and there's a
[27:48] Speaker 2: way to make this work and apply to guns as well,
[27:53] Speaker 2: in aviation, particularly Alaska, where you have a number of
[27:56] Speaker 2: accidents flying into bad weather and then hitting a mountain
[28:00] Speaker 2: or as we like to call it, cumulo granite formation,
[28:04] Speaker 2: and was I think it was six times more likely
[28:12] Speaker 2: when there were passengers than when pilot was solo and
[28:17] Speaker 2: you're going, huh, what's going on here? Well, what they
[28:20] Speaker 2: figured out was that when you have people in the plane,
[28:23] Speaker 2: you are not willing to say I can't. I'm not
[28:26] Speaker 2: going to go in these conditions. Whether it's the pressure
[28:29] Speaker 2: from them saying, hey, I gotta go, I got a
[28:31] Speaker 2: plane to catch, I've gotta this, I gotta you know,
[28:33] Speaker 2: we got to get back into town, or you're not
[28:36] Speaker 2: wanting to say to them you know, I'm not God's
[28:38] Speaker 2: gift aviation, I'm not super pilot, or somebody saying well,
[28:42] Speaker 2: you know, we flew with so and so last year
[28:44] Speaker 2: and there were conditions were just like this and he flew,
[28:46] Speaker 2: so we should be able to go instead instead of
[28:49] Speaker 2: just saying we're not going, we're not doing this today.
[28:54] Speaker 2: And I understand that you're going to miss your commercial flight,
[28:58] Speaker 2: and I understand that you you are not going to
[29:00] Speaker 2: get back to work tomorrow on time, but we're not
[29:04] Speaker 2: going and we're not going to do this because I
[29:08] Speaker 2: don't feel comfortable with these conditions. We can take that
[29:12] Speaker 2: same experience and apply it to guns of I am
[29:16] Speaker 2: not going to do this thing that instructors wanting me
[29:21] Speaker 2: to do, or that other people are going to do.
[29:23] Speaker 2: Or I don't want to appear to be a whimp,
[29:25] Speaker 2: or I don't want to be the guy who bailed
[29:26] Speaker 2: out and everybody's they said, Oh, we're just having fun.
[29:29] Speaker 2: Oh it's just a good time. You gotta be able
[29:32] Speaker 2: to say no and live with that. And I do
[29:34] Speaker 2: mean live with that.
[29:36] Speaker 4: How many people have died from pride?
[29:38] Speaker 2: A lot, A lot. Yeah, I don't want anybody to
[29:42] Speaker 2: think badly of me or to think that I'm just
[29:44] Speaker 2: not mad enough. Yeah, well, you know. And and women
[29:49] Speaker 2: don't do that. I don't know what it is. They
[29:53] Speaker 2: don't suffer from testosterone poisoning. No smart, they don't do
[29:57] Speaker 2: stupid stuff like guys do with boats and playing and
[30:00] Speaker 2: lawnmowers and ATVs and everything else out there. I don't know.
[30:04] Speaker 2: I mean, but maybe you've never noticed that, Michelle.
[30:07] Speaker 1: No, I've never noticed the ego thing.
[30:11] Speaker 2: Not hanging around all those military dudes in your life.
[30:17] Speaker 3: No, there's there's no ego.
[30:22] Speaker 4: Right, So how that flight at the lake take off
[30:26] Speaker 4: to get off the ground.
[30:28] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they got off the ground. You know, they
[30:29] Speaker 2: made it out of there.
[30:30] Speaker 4: Was just was he just waiting for a stronger tailwind
[30:33] Speaker 4: to have everything against.
[30:34] Speaker 2: Them almost like you know, you're just if you are
[30:40] Speaker 2: operating close to the edge, then you're it could go
[30:45] Speaker 2: over the edge anytime.
[30:46] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[30:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, he made it out and we're glad, and you know,
[30:49] Speaker 2: everybody's okay. But it's just one of those deals of
[30:52] Speaker 2: you're just going, wow, what as you say, Jim, why
[30:54] Speaker 2: would you ask and then not pay attention to the
[30:57] Speaker 2: information you're getting.
[30:58] Speaker 3: Is it a person that'll be back in your.
[31:00] Speaker 2: Yah when one doesn't know about that, we'll see.
[31:07] Speaker 4: Very possible he comes back in a war, you're in trouble.
[31:10] Speaker 2: Probably No, probably so. And to his credit, immediately after
[31:15] Speaker 2: he left, he texted one of our people here and said, yeah,
[31:18] Speaker 2: I'm not doing that again. Oh okay, so that was scary, right,
[31:22] Speaker 2: I'm not doing that again.
[31:23] Speaker 1: Thinking there would be perhaps some communication.
[31:27] Speaker 2: Yes, it happened very quickly when he and look, the
[31:32] Speaker 2: reality is, I don't know of anybody who has flown
[31:37] Speaker 2: for a long time and hasn't scared himself or herself
[31:40] Speaker 2: somewhere along the way. You know, it's part of the
[31:43] Speaker 2: learning process. Unfortunately, you go get training so you don't
[31:46] Speaker 2: but eventually you fly into a cloud you shouldn't have
[31:50] Speaker 2: been in, or you've got a situation you got in
[31:52] Speaker 2: some ice or something happened, and generally we learned from
[31:56] Speaker 2: it and we've become safer, better pilot.
[31:58] Speaker 4: So he was lucky enough to to get both parts
[32:00] Speaker 4: of that, live and learn.
[32:03] Speaker 2: Yep, yep. But you know, it's this all part of
[32:09] Speaker 2: this whole thing of it's okay to take risks. We
[32:13] Speaker 2: take risks when we drive down the road and we're
[32:16] Speaker 2: gonna we're basically doing a devil a daredevil routine every
[32:22] Speaker 2: day because we're going to go drive right past somebody
[32:25] Speaker 2: at high speed. We don't know them and don't know
[32:28] Speaker 2: anything about them. We're going to pass within three feet
[32:30] Speaker 2: of each other. It's like, you think, well, that's crazy,
[32:33] Speaker 2: why would anybody do that. Well, we do it all
[32:34] Speaker 2: day long. We accept the risk.
[32:37] Speaker 4: I usually don't notice the distance between the cars because
[32:39] Speaker 4: I'm putting my makeup on.
[32:41] Speaker 3: Or you're texting, texting.
[32:43] Speaker 2: Right, texting and putting makeup on texting about makeup. Your
[32:48] Speaker 2: question is but do you put down? But do you do?
[32:52] Speaker 2: I don't know the right protocol. Are you supposed to
[32:55] Speaker 2: put down your beer before you text?
[32:59] Speaker 3: You hand that to your past sered, tell them the
[33:00] Speaker 3: hold on to this.
[33:02] Speaker 2: That's right here? Oh my beer? Right, that's where we
[33:05] Speaker 2: got there?
[33:05] Speaker 4: Where's that blindfold? Where's the blindfold?
[33:07] Speaker 2: Jury? Lardie Lardy? And you know I often talk about
[33:14] Speaker 2: the corollaries between my flying experience and shooting, and one
[33:20] Speaker 2: of them is alcohol is it's an absolute zero tolerance,
[33:27] Speaker 2: not going to happen thing, just like boating, Well, most
[33:34] Speaker 2: of the boat I mean, look, you got to imagine
[33:37] Speaker 2: that most boaters are fifty percent of the boaters out
[33:40] Speaker 2: there are drinking, which is, by the way, illegal. Just
[33:44] Speaker 2: make sure everybody understands that. It is exactly the same
[33:46] Speaker 2: as driving, yep, as far as the.
[33:48] Speaker 4: Law, same thing as a bicycle. Actually you can get
[33:50] Speaker 4: dui on a bicycle.
[33:52] Speaker 2: Hmm.
[33:52] Speaker 4: You aware of that?
[33:54] Speaker 2: Can you get a dui on a horse? Yes?
[33:56] Speaker 3: You can?
[33:57] Speaker 2: I thought I heard that somewhere.
[34:00] Speaker 3: I know somebody who actually had to happen.
[34:01] Speaker 4: But you got to feed the horse a lot of booze.
[34:04] Speaker 2: I mean, how much had the horsemen drink? You beat
[34:06] Speaker 2: me too? Came like, oh do you I an a camel? Yeah,
[34:16] Speaker 2: if you're gonna go, but you understand that he can
[34:18] Speaker 2: really hold his liquor come on.
[34:21] Speaker 3: For months and a jumper.
[34:26] Speaker 2: Oh my, it's good to have a reserve tank, right
[34:31] Speaker 2: for amateurs, right boy?
[34:34] Speaker 4: Okay, Well we pretty much beat this into the ground.
[34:37] Speaker 2: I know that we were on topic at some point,
[34:39] Speaker 2: but I don't remember when.
[34:41] Speaker 4: Two years ago made maybe perhaps I don't know. Oh lord,
[34:47] Speaker 4: you know you eat your leftover hot dogs there, buddy.
[34:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. That's one of the problems is you're
[34:53] Speaker 2: cooking just as fast and I'm out there just cooking
[34:55] Speaker 2: stuff and throwing them out there, and all of a
[34:57] Speaker 2: sudden it's over and you're gonna wait. But I I've
[35:00] Speaker 2: probably cooked an extra fifteen burgers here. So but leftover
[35:05] Speaker 2: burgers are good too. It's okay.
[35:07] Speaker 3: You can always freeze them.
[35:08] Speaker 4: You always makes spaghetti, you can always, yes, and we
[35:12] Speaker 4: do that too.
[35:12] Speaker 2: It makes spaghetti and so well you guys, sorry.
[35:17] Speaker 1: So you just break an egg on it and call
[35:19] Speaker 1: it breakfast.
[35:23] Speaker 4: Lately here, lately, here, we could have done it on
[35:25] Speaker 4: the top of our car.
[35:27] Speaker 3: Okidding, you see.
[35:29] Speaker 2: Them, it's been so hot there. I saw that the
[35:31] Speaker 2: meme that somebody put out that the National Weather Service
[35:34] Speaker 2: had put out a recipe for cooking lasagna in your mailbox.
[35:39] Speaker 2: That's funny, the ones where people cook an egg on
[35:48] Speaker 2: the top of a car on a sidewalk.
[35:51] Speaker 3: It's been hot.
[35:52] Speaker 4: I'd like to give a big shout out too to
[35:54] Speaker 4: Willis Carrier, by the way, Thank you Willis.
[35:57] Speaker 2: That's right, you know, I'm I say, I'm proud to
[35:59] Speaker 2: be American where at least we have ac oh before
[36:04] Speaker 2: I forget it, just completely not connected to that, except
[36:07] Speaker 2: that when you said something about cookware. I got an
[36:11] Speaker 2: email from a guy who ended up getting hurt shooting
[36:14] Speaker 2: at the range and then Prompty Range because they had
[36:17] Speaker 2: hung out, believe it or not, frying pants and shot
