What if your suppressor ran 40% cooler, sent toxic gases out the front instead of your face, and you could clean it with dish soap? Navy SEAL veteran Justin Sheehan joins Ryan Gresham to break down Silent Steel USA's baffle-free turbine technology — and why it's changing what operators and civilians should expect from a suppressor. This Gun Talk Nation is brought to you by Silencer Central, Archon Firearms, Range Ready Studios, and Ruger. [0:00] Speaker 1: Look a little little sidebar. Pro tip for people that
[0:03] Speaker 1: I heard and I wonder if it works the same
[0:05] Speaker 1: on your suppressors. Is for people especially like professional end users,
[0:11] Speaker 1: run is suppressor a lot. You can weigh the can
[0:14] Speaker 1: when you get it. When you weigh the can, and
[0:16] Speaker 1: if it's getting significantly heavier, you have a lot of
[0:20] Speaker 1: build up inside the can.
[0:21] Speaker 2: Is that about right? One hundred percent? Yeah, you can.
[0:24] Speaker 2: You can tell that. I mean you can. Even some
[0:26] Speaker 2: people that run their guns a lot can feel it.
[0:28] Speaker 2: You can feel that it's getting heavy out front, right.
[0:30] Speaker 2: I mean the guys like folks from the community that
[0:34] Speaker 2: I came from your gun as an extension of your
[0:36] Speaker 2: of your body, right, so you know everything about it.
[0:39] Speaker 2: When something feels off, it's because something is off.
[0:47] Speaker 1: I'm Ryan Gresham and this this is gun Talk Nation.
[1:01] Speaker 1: Guntognation is brought to you by Arcan Firearms, Silence are Central,
[1:08] Speaker 1: Ruger and Range Ready. Hey, welcome to the guntog Nation.
[1:13] Speaker 1: You know, there is a lot happening in the world
[1:16] Speaker 1: of silencers suppressors, and yes, the two hundred dollars tax
[1:21] Speaker 1: stamp has gone away. Yes the processing is fast, but
[1:25] Speaker 1: there's actually new technology happening because of that, I think,
[1:29] Speaker 1: And so today on the show, we've got Silent Steel USA.
[1:32] Speaker 2: Justin Shane.
[1:34] Speaker 1: I mean we were joking about because your name is
[1:36] Speaker 1: spelled differently than what we think it's supposed to.
[1:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's spelled like she Han.
[1:41] Speaker 3: It was butchered in immigration over one hundred years ago,
[1:44] Speaker 3: and I have I've dot a lot of scars and
[1:48] Speaker 3: wounds to show for danding by how it's pronounce.
[1:51] Speaker 1: You have to always just keep correcting people, always everything.
[1:54] Speaker 2: Some people respect it when you correct it, and others
[1:57] Speaker 2: still call you she han and on you for it.
[2:00] Speaker 1: You just you do the thing where you're like, am
[2:02] Speaker 1: I going to correct them? We're just going to let
[2:04] Speaker 1: it go. Am I going to have to talk to
[2:06] Speaker 1: this person again?
[2:08] Speaker 2: Yeah? And as I get older, I either become more
[2:11] Speaker 2: stubborn or more agreeable. Yeah, depending on the day. It
[2:15] Speaker 2: depends on the day.
[2:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, welcome in Man. We were filming some guns
[2:18] Speaker 1: and gear segments. We said, let's sit down and talk
[2:20] Speaker 1: about this because Silence Steel USA not a new company,
[2:24] Speaker 1: but kind of new to the US. Is that about right?
[2:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, We've been around over a decade in Finland. So
[2:30] Speaker 2: our parent company, Silent Steel Finland. They've been producing the
[2:33] Speaker 2: suppressors for over ten years. A lot of our NATO
[2:37] Speaker 2: allies across the pond, they've been using them, and they've
[2:40] Speaker 2: tested them, tested their durability and stand by their product. Yeah.
[2:45] Speaker 2: A couple of years ago we found them at one
[2:48] Speaker 2: of the trade shows overseas Eurosatory and said, you know what,
[2:53] Speaker 2: America needs this. So we brought the manufacturing here to
[2:56] Speaker 2: the United States, completely veteran owned company and made right
[3:00] Speaker 2: in South Line issue.
[3:02] Speaker 1: Wow. Okay, yeah, because I mean, I guess we can
[3:06] Speaker 1: get into it. I was thinking about this because this
[3:07] Speaker 1: morning I was looking at I said, it's made in Michigan,
[3:10] Speaker 1: Finland Technology, Finland company. You cannot ship in. Just for
[3:16] Speaker 1: people to understand, you can't ship silencers in. You can't
[3:20] Speaker 1: import silencers, is that right? You can?
[3:22] Speaker 2: Right, you can, But it's a it's a pain. It's
[3:24] Speaker 2: a busy pain.
[3:24] Speaker 1: Okay. So because there's a whole sporting use thing, and.
[3:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, we definitely by manufacturing them here in the United States,
[3:31] Speaker 2: we have streamlined the process, which you know, to your
[3:34] Speaker 2: point about the tax stamp going down to zero dollars, Yeah,
[3:37] Speaker 2: the idea is to get not get these things tied
[3:40] Speaker 2: up right in the system and in the process. So
[3:43] Speaker 2: the manufacturing piece is just one more one more spot
[3:47] Speaker 2: where we can be more efficient.
[3:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, so you have a background in, you know, work
[3:54] Speaker 1: wise with running suppressors. I think that I always saying,
[3:57] Speaker 1: I was said on the show before, like not everyone
[3:59] Speaker 1: who in the gun industry are gun enthusiasts, or maybe
[4:03] Speaker 1: they know the stuff. Maybe you're an engineer, maybe you're
[4:06] Speaker 1: a marketing person or whatever, But like there's certainly an
[4:09] Speaker 1: advantage to someone who whether they're super into it hobby
[4:12] Speaker 1: wise or they've done it professionally. You ran silencers suppressors
[4:18] Speaker 1: professionally for years and years.
[4:19] Speaker 2: Right, Yeah. So yeah, I was in the seal teams.
[4:22] Speaker 2: I did twelve years in the Navy, and you know,
[4:25] Speaker 2: when these guys found me, the founders, they said, you
[4:29] Speaker 2: need to shoot our suppressors, you need to check them out,
[4:31] Speaker 2: like this is going to blow your mind. And I thought, well,
[4:33] Speaker 2: I've shot a lot of suppressors over the years, all
[4:37] Speaker 2: the big names out there that you can think of.
[4:39] Speaker 2: We we've had them, we tested them, we evaluated them,
[4:42] Speaker 2: and then we used them overseas, right, and and lives
[4:45] Speaker 2: depend on their you know, their capabilities and their and
[4:48] Speaker 2: their function. I thought, suppressor is a suppressor really, right,
[4:52] Speaker 2: Like we always think of a suppressor as your traditional
[4:55] Speaker 2: baffled system, a sealed can. For me, I've assumed once
[5:00] Speaker 2: that thing went on, it may never come back off. Right.
[5:03] Speaker 2: We were putting them under great amounts of heat because
[5:06] Speaker 2: they were carbon locked and they were seized up. And
[5:09] Speaker 2: so yeah, these guys came up to northern Michigan where
[5:12] Speaker 2: I was living, and we went to the range, this
[5:14] Speaker 2: little range out in Crawford County, middle of the National Forest,
[5:17] Speaker 2: and they showed me the suppressor and it blew my mind.
[5:21] Speaker 2: I saw that it was faffhulous.
[5:23] Speaker 1: Well that's the part, right, So you get to explained
[5:26] Speaker 1: to people the construction of this is not like we've
[5:30] Speaker 1: heard of baffles, we've heard a three D printing. This
[5:33] Speaker 1: is something entirely different.
[5:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a true filter. There's a filter inside
[5:39] Speaker 2: of this and the only part of the suppressor that
[5:42] Speaker 2: cerealized is the external the two. So you know, for
[5:47] Speaker 2: warranty's sake or just general maintenance, if you have issues
[5:50] Speaker 2: with the internals, there's no transfer of the suppressor to
[5:54] Speaker 2: get this thing taken care of and get you back
[5:56] Speaker 2: online using your suppressor. You could send that core in
[6:00] Speaker 2: and we can update it, we can fix it, we
[6:02] Speaker 2: can just maintenance it if that's what you need. If
[6:05] Speaker 2: it's beyond what you can do yourself, you should be
[6:07] Speaker 2: able to do most of the maintenance all by yourself.
[6:10] Speaker 2: So it's a replaceable part. It's I don't want to
[6:13] Speaker 2: consider it consumable. You know, you should it's going to last. Yeah,
[6:17] Speaker 2: you know. We tell folks that these suppressors are rated
[6:20] Speaker 2: for fifteen to twenty thousand rounds. We had European counterparts.
[6:24] Speaker 2: Somebody came into shot Show this year and told us
[6:27] Speaker 2: they had over forty thousand rounds for their suppressor and
[6:29] Speaker 2: it was still maintaining its function. They serviced it. Obviously.
[6:34] Speaker 2: We tell people you do need to clean your stuff
[6:36] Speaker 2: just like you would your weapon, right and a lot
[6:39] Speaker 2: of folks would like to probably, you know, hold the
[6:43] Speaker 2: manufacturer accountable, but sometimes it's just as a maintenance piece
[6:47] Speaker 2: that people need to take a little ownership of.
[6:49] Speaker 1: Look at little sidebar. Pro tip for people that I
[6:53] Speaker 1: heard and I wonder if it works the same on
[6:54] Speaker 1: your suppressors is for people especially like professional end users,
[7:00] Speaker 1: run in suppressor A lot you can weigh the can
[7:03] Speaker 1: when you get it. When you weigh the can, and
[7:06] Speaker 1: if it's getting significantly heavier, you have a lot of
[7:09] Speaker 1: build up inside the can. Is that about right on?
[7:12] Speaker 2: Yeah? You can you can tell that. I mean you can.
[7:15] Speaker 2: Even some people that run their guns a lot can
[7:17] Speaker 2: feel it. You can feel that it's getting heavy out front, right.
[7:20] Speaker 2: I mean the guys like folks from the community that
[7:23] Speaker 2: I came from. Your gun is an extension of your
[7:26] Speaker 2: of your body, right, so you know everything about it.
[7:29] Speaker 2: When something feels off, it's because something is off system.
[7:33] Speaker 2: But yeah, that carbon builds up, all of that, all
[7:36] Speaker 2: that propellant, all of the gases, all the dirty ammunition
[7:40] Speaker 2: that gets shot through your platform. That's where it's contained.
[7:44] Speaker 2: Isn't that suppressor before it exits? Right? And a lot
[7:47] Speaker 2: of times all of that trash comes back at you.
[7:51] Speaker 2: With our system being a you know, having the flow
[7:54] Speaker 2: iq technology and moving gas and all the propellants out
[7:57] Speaker 2: the front of the can. Your eliminated the stuff back
[8:00] Speaker 2: in the face. But you're also eliminating stuff that gets
[8:04] Speaker 2: stuck in the can because we're taking the restrict off,
[8:07] Speaker 2: we're allowing it to come out the front. Yeah.
[8:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about the There's been a lot of talk
[8:13] Speaker 1: about flow through back pressure. You have the flow IQ
[8:18] Speaker 1: is what you guys call it. This is accomplishing it
[8:21] Speaker 1: in a different way because you don't have baffles. But
[8:24] Speaker 1: talk about what's been going on in the last several
[8:28] Speaker 1: years of the types of gases people are seen and
[8:31] Speaker 1: what's happening with that.
[8:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know with everything, right, I mean war, war
[8:38] Speaker 2: does a lot for our country and our communities. Right.
[8:41] Speaker 2: It establishes new standards, new protocols for health. Right, So
[8:46] Speaker 2: you have folks coming out of the services and they've
[8:49] Speaker 2: got toxic exposure to you know, super high exposure levels
[8:53] Speaker 2: to lead and all of these these materials right that
[8:56] Speaker 2: are harmful for you suppressors. What happens when you SHO
[9:00] Speaker 2: is you have hydrogen cyanide build up and that gas
[9:02] Speaker 2: comes back right in a DII or a piston system
[9:06] Speaker 2: and it comes back and it goes out the bowl
[9:07] Speaker 2: carrier in your face and you eat all of that
[9:10] Speaker 2: toxic residue. Our suppressors mitigate all that by sending it
[9:16] Speaker 2: out the front. So all of that is flowing at.
[9:20] Speaker 2: What it does is it enters a little gas chamber
[9:22] Speaker 2: and it hits the turbine and it starts to swirl,
[9:26] Speaker 2: and those gases as they swirl, they balance everything and
[9:29] Speaker 2: they come out the front. That decreases the recoil, It
[9:33] Speaker 2: decreases the heat, there's not as much heat transfer, right,
[9:37] Speaker 2: and then it decreases the sound because of the gases.
[9:39] Speaker 2: That's what stops the sound, right, is all that gas
[9:42] Speaker 2: and swirling. It kills that noise as it goes out. So, yeah,
[9:46] Speaker 2: by moving from a baffled system, that traps all of that,
[9:51] Speaker 2: and then it takes like like water, it takes the
[9:54] Speaker 2: path of least resistance. Well, if a baffled system traps
[9:57] Speaker 2: all those gases, all that heat, all that toxic garbage
[10:02] Speaker 2: in there, a lot of times that comes back at you, Yeah,
[10:05] Speaker 2: because it finds the path of least resistance. So it
[10:08] Speaker 2: follows that rod back into the bowl. We've just mitigated
[10:13] Speaker 2: all of that. It's really cool.
[10:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, turbine system, and talk about because we were doing this,
[10:21] Speaker 1: you can unscrew the front of it and pull the
[10:25] Speaker 1: core out and then like talk about cleaning this because
[10:28] Speaker 1: people will be it's amazing.
[10:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm happy to show you I have one
[10:32] Speaker 2: here that's yeah, you know, I've this came off my
[10:34] Speaker 2: personal gun. It has our QD amount on here, our
[10:38] Speaker 2: bolt lock. But you know you're talking about the end cap.
[10:42] Speaker 2: That's what you're referring to for a maintenance. You know,
[10:44] Speaker 2: this is hand tightened. I mean I could take it
[10:47] Speaker 2: apart with my hands. But we also send a Spanner
[10:49] Speaker 2: wrench with every suppressor that's bought. So there's two little
[10:53] Speaker 2: notches right there. Yep, those little notches to Spanner wrench
[10:57] Speaker 2: pops in there, and this opens up very easily, and
[11:00] Speaker 2: then all it does is thread out. And again this
[11:03] Speaker 2: has been shot and you can see that one's dirty.
[11:05] Speaker 2: This is dirty, right, We've been shooting this, we've been
[11:07] Speaker 2: having fun with it, and we're not seeing any point
[11:10] Speaker 2: of impact shifts with this. Even with it this dirty,
[11:14] Speaker 2: it still is maintaining all of its capabilities. But you
[11:17] Speaker 2: take that core and you drop it in a we
[11:20] Speaker 2: dropping an ultrasonic tank, it's going to come out like
[11:24] Speaker 2: brand new. It's gonna shake everything loose. It's going to
[11:27] Speaker 2: shake everything out of that wire mesh that the boar
[11:30] Speaker 2: chambers is wrapped with. Off this turbine, everything's going to
[11:34] Speaker 2: be clean. That's if you have a tank. If you
[11:37] Speaker 2: don't have a tank, you can just use hot water
[11:39] Speaker 2: with this shelp. You can let this thing soak and
[11:41] Speaker 2: then you can get a stiff bristle brush. You can
[11:43] Speaker 2: clean this up, blow it out with some air, and
[11:46] Speaker 2: you're ready to go. We tell folks to clean these
[11:50] Speaker 2: about every thousand rounds or or you know, a heavy
[11:54] Speaker 2: day of shooting. That's gonna extend the life of your
[11:58] Speaker 2: suppressor and it's also going to extend the life of
[12:01] Speaker 2: your your gun because, as we know, barrels deteriorate and guns,
[12:06] Speaker 2: components inside of guns deteriorate from heat and all and
[12:10] Speaker 2: mat all of that pressure and all of the heat
[12:14] Speaker 2: that's built up and held in a contained space, that's
[12:17] Speaker 2: what's hard on parts.
[12:19] Speaker 1: So the fact this runs cooler, it makes the barrel
[12:23] Speaker 1: run cooler exactly.
[12:25] Speaker 2: So this runs cooler, and therefore what it does is
[12:29] Speaker 2: extends the life lifespan of your weapon itself. Very cool.
[12:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I want to talk more about just where
[12:38] Speaker 1: we're going with silencers, because there's a lot going on,
[12:41] Speaker 1: and we'll be right back. The Ruger LCP Max is
[12:45] Speaker 1: still one of the most popular pocket sized personal protection pistols,
[12:50] Speaker 1: and they just made it better with the Magpoole enhanced
[12:52] Speaker 1: handgun grip. So this one is the LCP Max with
[12:56] Speaker 1: Magpole EHG. Has nice texture, has a little bit bigger
[13:00] Speaker 1: grip module on it so you can get a little
[13:02] Speaker 1: bit more grip on the gun. Has a thirteen round
[13:05] Speaker 1: magazine also a ten round magazine, so it's just had
[13:09] Speaker 1: been enhanced a bit. Still small, still easy to shoot,
[13:13] Speaker 1: and still very reliable as a Ruger, So go check
[13:17] Speaker 1: it out the Ruger LCP Max with Magpool EHG. What
[13:21] Speaker 1: if you could be significantly better with your firearms in
[13:25] Speaker 1: a short time. At Range Ready Studios, we offer handgun
[13:28] Speaker 1: and rifle classes to help.
[13:30] Speaker 2: You be the best you can be.
[13:31] Speaker 1: You'll be safer, more competent, and just better at the range.
[13:35] Speaker 1: We also offer special experience classes which include the gun,
[13:39] Speaker 1: the AMMO, the gear and the training. Learn more at
[13:43] Speaker 1: Rangereadystudios dot com. So justin people are buying silencers like
[13:49] Speaker 1: crazy these days, and just in case you've been living
[13:52] Speaker 1: under a rock, everybody, it's never been easier to buy
[13:56] Speaker 1: a silencer.
[13:57] Speaker 2: Nope, nope. There we are reducing the pain and the
[14:02] Speaker 2: burden associated with getting suppressors, which we talked a little
[14:06] Speaker 2: bit about just traveling with them, right and you know
[14:10] Speaker 2: the National Firearms Act and how it's something that needs
[14:12] Speaker 2: to be declared when you travel, and we don't think
[14:16] Speaker 2: that everybody even knows it's working there.
[14:18] Speaker 1: It needs to be oh my gosh, traveling with guns,
[14:21] Speaker 1: traveling with suppressors.
[14:23] Speaker 2: Yes, that's we.
[14:24] Speaker 1: Do it all the time for work because of what
[14:26] Speaker 1: we do.
[14:27] Speaker 2: But yes, you do have to declare, you know.
[14:31] Speaker 1: Get a firearms declaration form.
[14:33] Speaker 2: Is what I always say.
[14:33] Speaker 1: Don't yell I have a gun in the airport, I
[14:37] Speaker 1: need a firearms declaration form. And if they're like but
[14:41] Speaker 1: those and it's like you travel with silencers suppressors and
[14:45] Speaker 1: it's like that's not a firearm, is it. No, it's
[14:49] Speaker 1: not a firearm, but I do need to declare it.
[14:52] Speaker 1: And it's like no you don't, Yes, yes I do,
[14:54] Speaker 1: I really do.
[14:56] Speaker 2: I had that conversation on the way out here. You know, well,
[14:58] Speaker 2: it's not a gun, right, it's not a gun, but
[15:01] Speaker 2: it goes on a gun but not a gun.
[15:03] Speaker 1: Yes, Well, I mean you have to, you have to declare.
[15:06] Speaker 1: And I mean it's stupid, but I've been told several
[15:10] Speaker 1: different ways that if you had like like a like
[15:15] Speaker 1: a SIMS gun, a glock replica you have to declare that.
[15:20] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, because there's they can X.
[15:22] Speaker 1: Ray all this stuff and they see a gun in there, yes,
[15:24] Speaker 1: and you haven't declared it.
[15:25] Speaker 2: It could be plastic.
[15:27] Speaker 1: And it's a trick we used to use for our
[15:29] Speaker 1: camera cases because you know, you have to put TSA
[15:32] Speaker 1: locks on things unless it's a gun case, and then
[15:36] Speaker 1: you actually are not supposed to have TSA locks. And
[15:39] Speaker 1: so we would do is we would put like a
[15:42] Speaker 1: SIMS gun in the camera case instead, I need a
[15:45] Speaker 1: firearms declaration form. And it's that way. Even if you're
[15:48] Speaker 1: traveling to some strange state that that isn't real friendly
[15:52] Speaker 1: for guns. It could be Connecticut or California or something
[15:55] Speaker 1: like that. I'm fine having this plastic pistol in there.
[15:58] Speaker 1: But they also let me put real master locks right
[16:01] Speaker 1: on the cases of our cameras.
[16:03] Speaker 2: Get around it.
[16:03] Speaker 1: It was a little a little trick we used. So
[16:05] Speaker 1: there you go, guys, if you want to be able
[16:07] Speaker 1: to put real locks on your on your luggage, you
[16:09] Speaker 1: could do that.
[16:10] Speaker 2: Hacking that problem. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, but yeah, it's
[16:14] Speaker 2: never been easier to get suppressors and there's not a
[16:17] Speaker 2: shortage of companies that are popping up that are selling
[16:20] Speaker 2: suppressors as well. We obviously hope that folks shop with us,
[16:24] Speaker 2: but they're you know, with that tax stamp going to
[16:27] Speaker 2: zero dollars, it's just opportunity and you're going to see that.
[16:30] Speaker 2: So yeah, and that's something that people need to be
[16:33] Speaker 2: wary of, right, is that just because somebody starts making suppressors,
[16:38] Speaker 2: that doesn't make them quality, right, doesn't mean that the
[16:41] Speaker 2: customer service is going to be there. It's just a
[16:44] Speaker 2: it's just a quick money grab. So we're not that's
[16:47] Speaker 2: not us. We're here for the long haul and our
[16:50] Speaker 2: finish arm of that has proven you know that we
[16:53] Speaker 2: we can stand the test of time even though we
[16:55] Speaker 2: may feel uh, you know, junior or young in the game,
[16:59] Speaker 2: it's not not the case necessarily.
[17:01] Speaker 1: What are you hearing from customers when they're getting these well,
[17:05] Speaker 1: they're just there.
[17:06] Speaker 2: For one, they're just blown away at the gas, the
[17:08] Speaker 2: turbine and the filter system. I mean that the same
[17:11] Speaker 2: way with me, right, like shot all these suppressors over
[17:14] Speaker 2: the years, and when I pulled that thing apart, I mean,
[17:17] Speaker 2: obviously we all know what we're looking at. It's not
[17:21] Speaker 2: that complicated, but it does really surprise you and I
[17:24] Speaker 2: think that's any any leap in technology. We feel that way,
[17:28] Speaker 2: We just didn't. It's admiration, right like you then you're like, wow,
[17:32] Speaker 2: this is cool. Why didn't I think of this? Or
[17:35] Speaker 2: somehow has somebody else not thought of this before? Right?
[17:39] Speaker 2: So that's just that while factor of like being able
[17:42] Speaker 2: to take that thing apart and clean it on your own,
[17:47] Speaker 2: check check the serviceability, just being able to look at
[17:49] Speaker 2: it and say, this doesn't look messed up. Right, Like
[17:54] Speaker 2: you start shooting your rifle and you you know you
[17:56] Speaker 2: have a change in your point of impact and you
[17:59] Speaker 2: start to diagnose it's your system. The suppressor is part
[18:02] Speaker 2: of that. Sure, and now it's easier to diagnose if
[18:05] Speaker 2: it is the suppressor, and if it is, we're going
[18:08] Speaker 2: to stand by it. We're going to warranty it.
[18:10] Speaker 1: Think about like a traditional baffled suppressor. A lot of
[18:14] Speaker 1: times they have that first baffle is the one that's
[18:17] Speaker 1: taking the brunt of the punishment. Right. They'll even have
[18:20] Speaker 1: a titanium suppressor, but the first baffles has a different
[18:24] Speaker 1: construction or whatever.
[18:25] Speaker 2: It might be.
[18:25] Speaker 1: Right, how does that change for you guys, because it's
[18:30] Speaker 1: just it's not designed that way. Does that first part
[18:33] Speaker 1: take the brunt of the punishment or is it just
[18:35] Speaker 1: is it different?
[18:37] Speaker 2: No, it doesn't because that turbine is redirecting everything. So
[18:41] Speaker 2: as as things as the elements are approaching that turbine,
[18:45] Speaker 2: they start to be redirected, so that turbine is moving
[18:49] Speaker 2: that gas as that bullet is entering that bullet chamber,
[18:52] Speaker 2: and that standoff that that chamber that is empty, that's
[18:56] Speaker 2: not filled with the turbine or the or the filter itself,
[19:00] Speaker 2: that is allowing those gases to escape. So they're not
[19:03] Speaker 2: they're not being restricted like you would typically see with
[19:06] Speaker 2: those first couple discs, those baffles, right, and everything's not
[19:11] Speaker 2: building there, it's actually expanding. So I tell people it's
[19:15] Speaker 2: like taking the restrict off something, but not so much
[19:18] Speaker 2: that you have changes at bolt speed. Right. You still
[19:21] Speaker 2: you still still has to go through its steps before
[19:23] Speaker 2: it exits the front of the suppressor.
[19:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, And a lot of times with suppressors there's kind
[19:28] Speaker 1: of this compromise that takes place if if you get
[19:33] Speaker 1: high flow through it's not as quiet. Is that?
[19:38] Speaker 2: That? Is that the case one hundred percent? And I
[19:40] Speaker 2: think that that's something that maybe folks are surprised that
[19:43] Speaker 2: when they shoot it is that they well they expect
[19:45] Speaker 2: James Bond, right, you know, they John Wick. You know,
[19:49] Speaker 2: they think that their their guns are going to be
[19:52] Speaker 2: impossible to hear and they're not going to be compromised. Right,
[19:56] Speaker 2: But what I it's not a it's not a or
[20:00] Speaker 2: you know, a ding on anybody that thinks that. But
[20:04] Speaker 2: typically your operators, you're professionals that use these, they understand that.
[20:09] Speaker 2: So they're not even focused on the sound, right. They
[20:12] Speaker 2: know they know you're going to meet the parameters, right,
[20:14] Speaker 2: the requirements for the decibel reduction. They know we're going
[20:18] Speaker 2: to do that for them. We're going to get it
[20:19] Speaker 2: down to one hundred and thirty six hundred and thirty
[20:21] Speaker 2: seven decibels to the ear, to the shooter's ear, and
[20:24] Speaker 2: it's going to be safe. Right. So and they're still
[20:27] Speaker 2: running you know, pel tours and swordans and hearing protection
[20:30] Speaker 2: right with their comms gear on. But they're less concerned
[20:35] Speaker 2: with the sound. You know, our civilians are our shooters,
[20:40] Speaker 2: even our avid shooters out there in the civilian world,
[20:43] Speaker 2: they seem to focus a lot on the sound. And
[20:45] Speaker 2: that's just something that we have to just explain, right, Like,
[20:48] Speaker 2: especially as you move away from baffled systems that are quieter.
[20:52] Speaker 2: Baffled systems are quieter and sealed cans, But on a
[20:56] Speaker 2: gas gun, you're also going to be eating a tremendous
[21:00] Speaker 2: amount of hydrogen, cyanide, and carbon that's coming out of
[21:03] Speaker 2: that gun. So there's a trade off for it. We
[21:07] Speaker 2: we value the back pressure, the reduction in recoil, the
[21:11] Speaker 2: reduction in heat, right, the heat transfer. I mean, I've
[21:15] Speaker 2: got lots of cami pants, you know, cry pants that
[21:18] Speaker 2: have got burn marks because I just dipped my barrel
[21:22] Speaker 2: and now I've got a hole in my pants, right,
[21:24] Speaker 2: or burned myself with my can because it's so hot. Yeah,
[21:28] Speaker 2: our cans run, they run forty percent cooler, so they're
[21:31] Speaker 2: a much cooler running can, you know. And again when
[21:35] Speaker 2: I first saw them, they're like, yeah, you'll be able
[21:37] Speaker 2: to touch this can after dumping a few mags through it.
[21:39] Speaker 1: I thought, I mean that's what we did. We got
[21:41] Speaker 1: it in and when you know, a couple of months
[21:43] Speaker 1: ago we got that nine mild cannon and we ran
[21:46] Speaker 1: a few mags through it, and we were doing the
[21:48] Speaker 1: video and said, you know, well, they say it runs cooler.
[21:51] Speaker 1: I wonder if I can hold this and It was
[21:53] Speaker 1: kind of like you do the quick you know, tap
[21:56] Speaker 1: it just to see and you go wait, okay, okay,
[21:59] Speaker 1: and you grab it. Oh my gosh. Yeah, it's a
[22:01] Speaker 1: little warm, but it's you could actually hold this in
[22:03] Speaker 1: your hand, which is amazing.
[22:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, we're a completely veteran owned company,
[22:09] Speaker 2: so that helps because the things that we value may
[22:13] Speaker 2: differ a little bit from your you know, your average shooter,
[22:16] Speaker 2: because we want this to be military grade, so we're
[22:19] Speaker 2: using stainless steel. We understand that there are lighter alloys
[22:23] Speaker 2: out there, but stainless steel is durable. It doesn't oxidize
[22:28] Speaker 2: like other alloys. So you're talking about over the beach
[22:31] Speaker 2: operations where you're doing stuff in the surf zone, right,
[22:34] Speaker 2: these are going to hold up and they're going to
[22:36] Speaker 2: build the weather all of the elements in a better
[22:39] Speaker 2: fashion because we're using stainless steel three or three and
[22:42] Speaker 2: three or four stainless steel. It's a better conductor, so
[22:46] Speaker 2: it manages the heat better. Is it a little bit heavier, Sure,
[22:49] Speaker 2: it's a little bit heavier, but our operators don't seem
[22:53] Speaker 2: to complain about the weight. You know, ounces do equal pounds,
[22:56] Speaker 2: but platforms need to be durable. They need to be
[22:59] Speaker 2: really liable and consistent, and our suppressors match that match
[23:04] Speaker 2: all of those standards that we expect out of our
[23:08] Speaker 2: guns alone.
[23:10] Speaker 1: Hey, I want to tell you about the ARCon Type
[23:12] Speaker 1: B pistol, designed with the lowest bore axis of any
[23:16] Speaker 1: striker fired handgun, which helps reduce muzzle flip during recoil,
[23:21] Speaker 1: getting you back on target faster. This is made possible
[23:25] Speaker 1: by the patented af speedlock system featuring a unique non
[23:29] Speaker 1: tilting barrel lockup design and with the gen Twoter modular grip,
[23:34] Speaker 1: you can customize size and texture to fit your use
[23:38] Speaker 1: and shooting preference. ARCN Firearms suppressor ownership has never been
[23:44] Speaker 1: easier for shooters who want less noise and less recoil.
[23:47] Speaker 1: Silence or Central makes it easy browse top suppressor brands online,
[23:51] Speaker 1: handle the paperwork from home with the help of their experts,
[23:54] Speaker 1: and have your new suppressor delivered to your door. Silence
[23:58] Speaker 1: are Central, so justin you know, we were talking earlier
[24:02] Speaker 1: of like most people, regular consumers buy guns, scopes, suppressors, whatever,
[24:10] Speaker 1: and they don't have the same They're not using this
[24:13] Speaker 1: stuff every day or every week. It's a hobby. But
[24:16] Speaker 1: for people like you know, you were in the seal teams.
[24:20] Speaker 1: You guys are training all the time and you're running.
[24:23] Speaker 1: You mentioned like over the beach operations. You know, I'm
[24:26] Speaker 1: not typically doing over the beach operations here in Louisiana.
[24:30] Speaker 1: But you see stuff that most people don't see, right,
[24:34] Speaker 1: you see what does it look like? What does the
[24:38] Speaker 1: flash signature look like? And you see like the real
[24:42] Speaker 1: world applications of that. I mean, there are there times
[24:47] Speaker 1: that you can think about when you were actually working
[24:49] Speaker 1: in that environment where the flash, either from the enemy
[24:55] Speaker 1: or from you guys was noticeable. Like you're wearing nods.
[24:59] Speaker 1: I mean, do you think about out You look for
[25:01] Speaker 1: things in a different way because you've been there.
[25:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean flash alone, right, Like if you're under
[25:07] Speaker 2: night vision and you're you're shooting in a house or
[25:10] Speaker 2: in a you know, contained space, flash is a big deal, right.
[25:14] Speaker 2: You can you can get flooded out because there's a
[25:17] Speaker 2: fireball at the end of your at the end of
[25:19] Speaker 2: your gun, right, Yeah, with everything coming out the front
[25:21] Speaker 2: of our suppressor, it acts as a vacuum, so it
[25:24] Speaker 2: kills all of that flash. That fireball that comes out
[25:27] Speaker 2: the end. It is in a sense, it vacuums and
[25:29] Speaker 2: it contains it right, and it handle it does the
[25:31] Speaker 2: same with dust and it just captures all of that.
[25:35] Speaker 2: You know, we stood out at a at a range
[25:37] Speaker 2: out west this early spring and we were out there
[25:40] Speaker 2: under night vision staring at the end of the barrel
[25:42] Speaker 2: of just trying at the end of the suppressure trying
[25:44] Speaker 2: to catch the flash and it was nearly impossible, really, yeah,
[25:47] Speaker 2: because like it's that little, it's that it's that small
[25:49] Speaker 2: of a signature. Yeah, And that and signature management. You know,
[25:53] Speaker 2: you talk about like the advancements in technology and suppressors
[25:57] Speaker 2: and this and that, signature management is probably the thing
[26:01] Speaker 2: right now, that's the theme is managing signature and that's
[26:07] Speaker 2: something we're proud that we do really well.
[26:09] Speaker 1: Right, well, so many things have gone to fight at night, right.
[26:14] Speaker 2: Yes, and the ability to pick up someone's location, right,
[26:20] Speaker 2: and just with technology we've been better able to find, fix, capture,
[26:26] Speaker 2: do all these things of different degrees, and so yeah,
[26:30] Speaker 2: now it's become a signature management problem, a dilemma that
[26:35] Speaker 2: needs to be solved. So different companies are solving that.
[26:38] Speaker 2: Whether it's you know, your uniforms that we're wearing, right,
[26:42] Speaker 2: we're trying to create uniforms that handle your heat, your
[26:47] Speaker 2: body heat, right and give off less thermal signature. We're
[26:51] Speaker 2: doing the same thing here with our thermal signature. And yeah,
[26:54] Speaker 2: sometimes you don't want that. I mean we certainly overseas
[26:57] Speaker 2: at times pulled cans so they would see flash because
[27:01] Speaker 2: you want get people's heads down. Yeah, right, like, so
[27:05] Speaker 2: you know, sometimes you use flash to your advantage.
[27:07] Speaker 1: I want it loud and flashy.
[27:09] Speaker 2: Right, you know, we want they see me on down
[27:13] Speaker 2: kind of thing. But yeah, we're we're really happy with
[27:16] Speaker 2: the management, the signature management that we have out of
[27:19] Speaker 2: our suppressor and then other things like you know, I
[27:23] Speaker 2: can't tell you how many times I've been you know,
[27:25] Speaker 2: first rooms fine, second room, eyes are watering a little bit.
[27:29] Speaker 2: Third room, you're you know, you're just dealing with a
[27:33] Speaker 2: film over your eyeballs because you're eating all that garbage
[27:37] Speaker 2: in the face, not and not. You know, God forbid.
[27:40] Speaker 2: You're a left handed shooter, right me, I'm the guy
[27:44] Speaker 2: you're eating an all guy.
[27:45] Speaker 1: I'm I'm right handed. I'm super left eye dominant, so
[27:50] Speaker 1: I've always shot long guns on left shoulder, and I
[27:53] Speaker 1: am like the test case when when people are like oh,
[27:57] Speaker 1: you know this blowback thing. I'm like, yeah, I've I've
[28:00] Speaker 1: been bitching about it for years, guys. Yeah, because the
[28:02] Speaker 1: first time I started, or when I first started shooting suppressed,
[28:07] Speaker 1: was like whoa, because up until that point, people would say, well,
[28:11] Speaker 1: doesn't bother you, like the shell the brass is being
[28:14] Speaker 1: thrown across your face, and said, I never see it,
[28:16] Speaker 1: don't It doesn't bother me. I never see it. I
[28:19] Speaker 1: never noticed it. It's a big deal until I put
[28:21] Speaker 1: a suppressor on. This is old school. This is like
[28:25] Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, twenty ten AAC stuff, right, Yeah,
[28:29] Speaker 1: And I mean it was great at the time, yeah,
[28:31] Speaker 1: for what it was, but yeah, dude, it's throwing all
[28:35] Speaker 1: kinds of dust and junk into you. Like you want
[28:38] Speaker 1: to make sure that you're wearing eye protection. Yeah, I mean,
[28:41] Speaker 1: it's no joke. Yeah, I always laugh.
[28:43] Speaker 2: I fet you know, I feel like hundreds hundreds of
[28:46] Speaker 2: sets of clear eye protection laying around right then, because
[28:50] Speaker 2: every time they get a little scratched up, I want
[28:52] Speaker 2: another clean set. But you know, we wear that a
[28:55] Speaker 2: lot of times to manage all that garbage and gunk
[28:59] Speaker 2: that's coming back into your eyeballs. I mean, you know,
[29:02] Speaker 2: you men have act people overseas for lifelim or eyesight.
[29:05] Speaker 1: Oh, eyesight is a very important.
[29:07] Speaker 2: Thing, and and you know, we like to think that
[29:10] Speaker 2: we're helping the operator deal with that that problem that
[29:15] Speaker 2: they have when they're eating all that trash that's coming
[29:17] Speaker 2: out of their their bolt face. Right. Yeah. Yeah, when
[29:21] Speaker 2: we see a guy that's left handed step up to
[29:23] Speaker 2: the range at a demo day, we're like, yes, you know,
[29:26] Speaker 2: he's gonna love this. What do you hey, what do
[29:27] Speaker 2: you think? And they're always like, there's no gas in
[29:30] Speaker 2: the face, you know. So, yeah, we do a really
[29:35] Speaker 2: great job at mitigating really all the things that make
[29:40] Speaker 2: shooting unfavorable, uncomfortable. Right, So we're applying it a lot
[29:45] Speaker 2: of times to a professional sense. You're you're war fighter,
[29:49] Speaker 2: you're law enforcement officer. But the truth is they shouldn't
[29:53] Speaker 2: just have a better experience alone, right, the civilia and
[29:58] Speaker 2: the shooters that the guys that go to the range
[30:00] Speaker 2: or they you know, they care very very deeply about
[30:03] Speaker 2: personal defense and they trained hard, right, they want the
[30:07] Speaker 2: same equipment that we that we have, that we test
[30:10] Speaker 2: and we evaluate. Yeah, so and there's no reason they
[30:13] Speaker 2: shouldn't have that, Like we've talked a lot about like,
[30:16] Speaker 2: well this is for the professional, right, and you know,
[30:19] Speaker 2: civilians maybe don't understand this or don't understand that, and
[30:22] Speaker 2: that bridge is being gapped, a margin is narrowing, right,
[30:26] Speaker 2: Like civilians have access to all the information right as
[30:33] Speaker 2: fast as we get it there. They're right behind us
[30:35] Speaker 2: on our coattails.
[30:36] Speaker 1: So the same stuff and they want the same stuff.
[30:39] Speaker 2: And honestly they should have a better experience too. Right,
[30:42] Speaker 2: you should be able to go to the gun range.
[30:44] Speaker 2: You should be able to not feel like your ears
[30:46] Speaker 2: are bleeding when you leave it, right because you had
[30:49] Speaker 2: the ability to shoot suppressed, and the government and policy
[30:53] Speaker 2: and protocol and just the scare tactics haven't prohibited you
[30:58] Speaker 2: from shooting with a suppressor for all the years, right,
[31:01] Speaker 2: and then if you are shooting suppressed, you shouldn't have
[31:03] Speaker 2: to eat gas and hydrogen cyanide and all these other
[31:07] Speaker 2: things and replace your can your suppressors over and over
[31:11] Speaker 2: because they're shot out or you think they're shot out,
[31:14] Speaker 2: you don't know because you can't take them apart. Right, So, yeah,
[31:18] Speaker 2: we serve both communities.
[31:21] Speaker 1: If somebody comes to you and they're like, yeah, I've
[31:24] Speaker 1: been thinking about getting a suppressor. I've never had one.
[31:28] Speaker 2: What would you say is.
[31:29] Speaker 1: The number one reason to buy one?
[31:33] Speaker 2: You know, probably just the probably the reduction in recoil
[31:38] Speaker 2: and sound. I mean we I've said, hey, we focus
[31:40] Speaker 2: a lot.
[31:41] Speaker 1: Sound might be actually number two.
[31:43] Speaker 2: Huh yeah, I think so, I mean we You know,
[31:46] Speaker 2: I thought you might say that I take different folks shooting.
[31:49] Speaker 2: I run shooting courses, I do close quarters combat courses
[31:53] Speaker 2: and weapons fundamentals. And you know, the biggest, the biggest
[31:59] Speaker 2: thing that separates capable and non capable folks with their
[32:04] Speaker 2: firearms is the amount of training they do. So I
[32:06] Speaker 2: tell people when they come in, they shoot my guns,
[32:08] Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, is this what I should buy?
[32:11] Speaker 2: And I'm like, no, you should buy what suits you
[32:14] Speaker 2: because I want you to train with it, right, And
[32:17] Speaker 2: if putting a suppressor on the end of your gun
[32:21] Speaker 2: means you'll go train with it more because it's a
[32:23] Speaker 2: more pleasurable experience, I think you should shoot suppressed.
[32:26] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[32:27] Speaker 2: Right. You know I don't have gigantic hands, right, so
[32:32] Speaker 2: I'm probably not going to run some nineteen eleven you know,
[32:35] Speaker 2: big heavy framed pistol, Right. I run smaller framed guns
[32:39] Speaker 2: because they fit better in my hands. I think that
[32:42] Speaker 2: you should buy and things that will you know they
[32:46] Speaker 2: will facilitate your training needs. Okay, that way you become
[32:50] Speaker 2: better equipped down the road. Then you've got the hours
[32:52] Speaker 2: of the ten thousand reps. You get them because you're
[32:55] Speaker 2: not afraid of your gun. You don't want to go
[32:57] Speaker 2: have this thing bark at you and break your ear
[32:59] Speaker 2: drum every time you know you're on the range. And
[33:02] Speaker 2: I think that if everybody on the line is suppressed,
[33:06] Speaker 2: everybody's having a better time. And we all know that
[33:09] Speaker 2: guy that he's got his can off and jeez and
[33:13] Speaker 2: ear pro. You know, you should still wear your ear
[33:16] Speaker 2: pro because you know yours are important. But it's much
[33:21] Speaker 2: more pleasant when somebody has a suppressed system next to
[33:26] Speaker 2: you than unsuppressed.
[33:28] Speaker 1: Gonna make you a better shooter because you don't have
[33:30] Speaker 1: the recoil. It's going to help you to train more.
[33:32] Speaker 1: Kind of what you're saying, because it's more pleasurable to
[33:35] Speaker 1: shoot it. And very cool. I mean, you guys are
[33:38] Speaker 1: doing cool stuff. Silence Steel USA. And I guess is
[33:42] Speaker 1: how they find you guys.
[33:43] Speaker 2: Yes, Silence Steel USA.
[33:44] Speaker 1: All right, make sure to look us up very good,
[33:47] Speaker 1: all right, Thank you guys for listening, thanks for watching.
[33:49] Speaker 1: We'll see you next time on gun Talk Nation.
