[0:00] Speaker 1: The Ruger LC carbine is the ultimate range companion chambered
[0:04] Speaker 1: in five seven by twenty eight, is fun to shoot
[0:06] Speaker 1: and low recoiling, a folding stock and collapsible sites to
[0:10] Speaker 1: make a compact. Learn more at Ruger dot com.
[0:14] Speaker 2: Oh Man, there's so much for us to talk about.
[0:15] Speaker 2: A lot of things going on in the news. I'm
[0:17] Speaker 2: going to get to those in just a little bit.
[0:19] Speaker 2: A lot of thing's happening with gun rights and fighting
[0:21] Speaker 2: courts and what the debacle that's going on in the
[0:25] Speaker 2: Commonwealth of Virginia with the governor signing a whole bunch
[0:30] Speaker 2: of gun control bills. Gun bands waiting to see if
[0:32] Speaker 2: she go ahead and signs the ban on semi automatic firearms.
[0:39] Speaker 2: Harmie Dillon, the Assistant Attorney General Party wrote the governor
[0:45] Speaker 2: and said if you sign this, we will sue you,
[0:49] Speaker 2: basically saying if you try to ban AR fifteen's, that's
[0:52] Speaker 2: unconstitutional and we will sue you for that. We'll see
[0:57] Speaker 2: more about that and just a little bit first, let's go.
[0:59] Speaker 2: The phone was lying three you Malcolm's with us out
[1:01] Speaker 2: of Saint Mary's, West, Virginia. Hey, Malcolm, thank you for
[1:04] Speaker 2: your patience. How can we help.
[1:06] Speaker 3: Hi Tom, I was I've already signed up for a
[1:10] Speaker 3: shotgun class with a tactical defense institute in Ohio, and
[1:16] Speaker 3: I was wondering if you've ever had any experience or
[1:18] Speaker 3: any of the callers have had any experience with this facility.
[1:22] Speaker 4: I have not.
[1:23] Speaker 2: I went to the website tdiohio dot com looking at that,
[1:28] Speaker 2: it looks like they have a lot of different classes.
[1:30] Speaker 2: I don't know anything about them firsthand or even by reputation.
[1:36] Speaker 4: How did you decide on them? How did you find them?
[1:40] Speaker 5: Well, I've contacted several places because I've recently acquired a
[1:46] Speaker 5: Vanelli M four and I was wanting to take a
[1:49] Speaker 5: shotgun class with it, and a lot of places have
[1:52] Speaker 5: just not gotten back to me in Virginia, so I
[1:56] Speaker 5: started doing a wider search and came up with this
[1:59] Speaker 5: institute in Ohio.
[2:01] Speaker 2: So my sense is, just looking at it, I think
[2:05] Speaker 2: it probably is a pretty good facility. I think you're
[2:09] Speaker 2: going to enjoy it. As you probably have heard me
[2:13] Speaker 2: say before, just go into it with your eyes open
[2:15] Speaker 2: and make sure that everything looks safe and like it's
[2:18] Speaker 2: supposed to be. If something looks weird or seems weird,
[2:23] Speaker 2: honor that feeling and ask about it, and if it
[2:26] Speaker 2: continues to feel weird, don't be afraid to bail out.
[2:29] Speaker 2: But I think you're probably going to get some good
[2:31] Speaker 2: instruction there.
[2:32] Speaker 4: It looks like, okay, good, Well tell you what the
[2:36] Speaker 4: other year?
[2:37] Speaker 2: What the other part of this is. You know what
[2:38] Speaker 2: I'm going to say next? Right, You got to give
[2:39] Speaker 2: us a range report once you've been there.
[2:42] Speaker 5: Yes, sir, we'll be more happy to do that sounds good.
[2:45] Speaker 2: And if anybody listening has some information on TDI uh
[2:50] Speaker 2: let us know Tactical Defense Institute in Ohio, give us
[2:54] Speaker 2: a call and fill us in. Thanks for the call, sir.
[2:57] Speaker 2: Let me run over to Rich. He's online one out
[2:59] Speaker 2: of Buffalo, New York. Hey Rich, you're on gun Talk.
[3:01] Speaker 4: What's that man?
[3:03] Speaker 6: Hey Tom? Just a couple of quick things. One shout
[3:06] Speaker 6: out to Hornity.
[3:08] Speaker 7: Believe it or not.
[3:08] Speaker 6: I bought a powder measure online somewhere I don't remember
[3:12] Speaker 6: before COVID, and I just recently was able to finish
[3:15] Speaker 6: my reloading bench building it. And so I pulled this
[3:19] Speaker 6: thing out after probably almost seven years, and it's broken.
[3:23] Speaker 6: Who there's no indication in the box that it was
[3:26] Speaker 6: mangled or anything. And I called them up and without
[3:30] Speaker 6: even batting an eye, no question, Okay, we'll send you
[3:33] Speaker 6: a new one, no questions asked.
[3:37] Speaker 4: Did they once you send back the old one?
[3:39] Speaker 6: No? No, they just you know, and for all they knew,
[3:42] Speaker 6: I broke this thing, you know, between now and seven
[3:45] Speaker 6: years ago, and didn't even didn't even question.
[3:48] Speaker 4: What were you expecting when you call them with that? Well?
[3:52] Speaker 6: I was hoping that, and from listening to you talk
[3:55] Speaker 6: about it quite often about gun manufacturers and stuff like that,
[3:59] Speaker 6: I kind of had a ninkling that they would take
[4:01] Speaker 6: care of me and just wanted to let you know
[4:03] Speaker 6: that they most certainly did.
[4:05] Speaker 2: Isn't that a wonderful thing, though? I Mean, there aren't
[4:07] Speaker 2: a lot of industries where you call somebody say, yeah,
[4:10] Speaker 2: I bought this thing seven years ago and I finally
[4:12] Speaker 2: got around to open and it's broken. I mean, most
[4:15] Speaker 2: people would go, you gotta be kidding me, really, no,
[4:17] Speaker 2: we're not.
[4:17] Speaker 4: Going to cover that.
[4:19] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it probably just got crunched in shipping or something.
[4:24] Speaker 6: And you know, because I'm I'm sure the quality control
[4:27] Speaker 6: is really good, but you know it's out of their control.
[4:29] Speaker 6: And yeah, even covering something that the shipping company is
[4:32] Speaker 6: really responsible for, they just took care of it.
[4:35] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good company. All right. You got something
[4:37] Speaker 4: else you want to talk about?
[4:39] Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know if you ever heard of the
[4:40] Speaker 6: stealth Arms Platypus. It's a twenty eleven and the thing.
[4:47] Speaker 6: You can could customize it a bazillion different ways. Okay, yeah,
[4:52] Speaker 6: ever seen it?
[4:53] Speaker 4: No? I know, I've just heard about it. I mean,
[4:55] Speaker 4: people rave about it.
[4:57] Speaker 6: It's a great gun. You can get the the frame
[5:01] Speaker 6: however you want, stippled however you want. It's aluminum, so
[5:03] Speaker 6: it's it's permanent. Right. You can get a square trigger guard,
[5:08] Speaker 6: rounded trigger guard, skelt, nice trigger and hammer, all kinds
[5:12] Speaker 6: of different trigger weights. The slide you can get flat top,
[5:16] Speaker 6: round top, you know, pickrail, no pickrail, and if that
[5:21] Speaker 6: wasn't enough, you could get like every single slide, serration
[5:24] Speaker 6: and difference in parts like the hammer, the thasty, every
[5:31] Speaker 6: single thing. Any color you want, any color combination. It's amazing.
[5:36] Speaker 4: Why why did you do that?
[5:40] Speaker 1: Well?
[5:40] Speaker 6: Because you know I like orange, you know, and uh,
[5:45] Speaker 6: there's not many orange guns. I'm like, oh my god,
[5:46] Speaker 6: I could get this in combination of the bay Okay, wait.
[5:49] Speaker 4: At wait, you just won No.
[5:52] Speaker 2: One in thirty one years, I have never asked anybody
[5:55] Speaker 2: why they bought a particular gun, and the answer was, well,
[5:58] Speaker 2: I like orange.
[5:59] Speaker 4: You win thee today.
[6:02] Speaker 6: It's like I like turtles kids from back in the day, right.
[6:05] Speaker 6: And another thing, get it takes glock seventeen mags as well,
[6:11] Speaker 6: so they're cheap.
[6:12] Speaker 7: Oh yeah, you.
[6:14] Speaker 6: Can step on them, rack them. Who cares? They're twenty bucks,
[6:18] Speaker 6: you know, right? And it shoots like a dream, you know,
[6:21] Speaker 6: it's it's a great gun.
[6:22] Speaker 2: Now are you using this as a competition gun strictly
[6:26] Speaker 2: ranged defense?
[6:27] Speaker 6: What are you doing with it a competition? I shoot
[6:30] Speaker 6: the steel matches it. Steel matches with it mostly and
[6:34] Speaker 6: it fits in my hand great. A lot of times
[6:36] Speaker 6: the nineteen elevens the grip safety would get in the
[6:39] Speaker 6: way of my thumb and this one is just the
[6:42] Speaker 6: way the safety is oriented and everything in the thickness
[6:45] Speaker 6: of the grip it fits perfect.
[6:48] Speaker 4: And I know.
[6:49] Speaker 2: There's got to be some variation because you can customize
[6:51] Speaker 2: it all you want.
[6:52] Speaker 4: But just ballpark. What does the platyfums cost?
[6:56] Speaker 6: And it's it was about seventeen hundred, which you know
[7:01] Speaker 6: isn't cheap. But for all medal twenty eleven it's not.
[7:06] Speaker 6: It's probably ninety to ninety five percent of a staccado
[7:09] Speaker 6: for less than half the price.
[7:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's really where we are now with
[7:14] Speaker 2: just good nineteen elevens, especially double stack nineteen elevens. Seventeen
[7:18] Speaker 2: is almost the starting point.
[7:21] Speaker 6: Right, Yeah. Yeah, it's a great value and they look great.
[7:25] Speaker 8: You can How long have you had it?
[7:29] Speaker 6: About a year and a half now, Okay.
[7:31] Speaker 4: So you've put some rounds through. It's holding up, okay.
[7:33] Speaker 6: Hunh Yeah, you had not a single misfire, you know,
[7:37] Speaker 6: they tell you there's a break in period and stuff
[7:39] Speaker 6: like that. Never nothing yet, nothing just the factory AMMO
[7:44] Speaker 6: obviously because they haven't done many reload yet.
[7:46] Speaker 4: Sure.
[7:47] Speaker 6: Yeah, it runs great.
[7:49] Speaker 2: Great, that's a great range report, Rich, thanks to the call.
[7:52] Speaker 2: I appreciate that range report. Let me jump down to Billings, Montana.
[7:55] Speaker 2: They got John called in on five. Hey John, what
[7:58] Speaker 2: you have there?
[8:02] Speaker 7: Go ahead?
[8:03] Speaker 4: Hey there, go ahead, John. You're on the air, sir.
[8:06] Speaker 9: Okay, I'm waiting.
[8:09] Speaker 4: Well, you say you called me. What do you want
[8:13] Speaker 4: to talk about?
[8:15] Speaker 9: Well, you were talking earlier in your show today about
[8:19] Speaker 9: Dan Wesson and I have a Dan Wesson Guardian that
[8:23] Speaker 9: I've been caring for about four or five years, and
[8:27] Speaker 9: I have not been nothing but impressed with it.
[8:30] Speaker 4: Ah.
[8:32] Speaker 9: I'm an iPSC shooter and I shot a lot of
[8:34] Speaker 9: thirty eight super in the open class and I found
[8:38] Speaker 9: this one available. Super's hard to find, but it's got
[8:42] Speaker 9: a fully supported chamber, so I can use the same
[8:45] Speaker 9: animo I did in competition.
[8:48] Speaker 10: Uh.
[8:48] Speaker 9: And I have probably put five six hundred rounds to
[8:51] Speaker 9: this pistol and it has never ever quit. It just
[8:56] Speaker 9: keeps feeding and seeing. I've been in for.
[9:00] Speaker 2: You know, I like the quality of the Dan Weston guns.
[9:04] Speaker 2: I got the one I bought and then just got
[9:06] Speaker 2: these two in to try out, and you know they're
[9:08] Speaker 2: in the got to send the back category, but still
[9:10] Speaker 2: having fun with them.
[9:11] Speaker 4: So yeah, I like what they're doing.
[9:14] Speaker 9: Oh yeah, I'll tell you. The slide fit to the
[9:16] Speaker 9: train is just incredible, just incredible.
[9:22] Speaker 2: I'm just going to say that's what I saw in
[9:24] Speaker 2: all three of these. It's like, Wow, these things were
[9:27] Speaker 2: really I mean, they got good triggers, but they're really
[9:30] Speaker 2: accurate out of the box.
[9:31] Speaker 4: So I really like them. Yep, give it up.
[9:37] Speaker 2: That's about as good as it gets. At the recommendation.
[9:39] Speaker 2: I appreciate the calls there. Thank you all right, quick

[12:26] Speaker 8: and stay informed with the gun Talk podcast.
[12:41] Speaker 2: Oh let's see you guys talk about things that are out.
[12:44] Speaker 2: Ruger and Lipsy's get together again and they've got Ellipses
[12:48] Speaker 2: exclusive a new Ruger RXIM which I like that pistol anyway.
[12:53] Speaker 2: They call it this CoA Edition exclusive. It is I'm
[12:58] Speaker 2: reading from the release a feature rich pistol. The pairs
[13:02] Speaker 2: the popular RXm platform with a highly sought after aim
[13:05] Speaker 2: points CoA red dot reflex system offered in both fifteen
[13:10] Speaker 2: and seventeen round models. The Ellipsis Exclusive Ruger RXm CoA
[13:15] Speaker 2: additions available in three colors, et cetera, et cetera. But
[13:18] Speaker 2: what they're doing is this is a if you don't know,
[13:21] Speaker 2: a point has the CoA system of mounting a red
[13:25] Speaker 2: dot and it's pretty robust and pretty impressive. So you
[13:29] Speaker 2: might take a look over at Lipses dot com take
[13:31] Speaker 2: a look at that thing. Gun Rights Group sues California
[13:36] Speaker 2: over eleven percent Firearms and Ammunition Tax Second Amendment Foundation
[13:40] Speaker 2: saf is FIUL suit or actually a motion for a
[13:45] Speaker 2: summary judgment California charges an eleven percent excise tax on firearms,
[13:50] Speaker 2: firearms parts, and ammunition. Now you know there's already eleven
[13:53] Speaker 2: percent xcise tax on all guns. It's a federal xcise tax.
[13:59] Speaker 2: So this is a eleven sent on top of the
[14:00] Speaker 2: eleven percent. So we're now twenty two percent in California
[14:04] Speaker 2: that you're having to pay, and saf is suing saying
[14:09] Speaker 2: this is a tax on a fundamental civil right.
[14:13] Speaker 4: Clearly it is right.
[14:16] Speaker 2: Could set a precedent to think about this on whether
[14:20] Speaker 2: the states can impose special taxes on the exercise of
[14:23] Speaker 2: any constitutional right. If the tax is uphild, it could
[14:28] Speaker 2: open the door for unlimited tax increases on firearms and
[14:31] Speaker 2: other civil liberties. It doesn't take much imagination to think
[14:35] Speaker 2: of a number of states would say, well, you know,
[14:39] Speaker 2: if they got away with eleven percent, let's make it
[14:42] Speaker 2: twenty percent or thirty or fifty percent or one hundred percent.
[14:49] Speaker 2: I mean, if they're allowed to tax a firearm, and
[14:55] Speaker 2: owning a firearm is an enumerated constitutional right, a fundamental
[14:59] Speaker 2: constitutional right. If you can tax it, you can eliminate it,
[15:04] Speaker 2: you can tax it out of business. That was, of course,
[15:07] Speaker 2: the original intent behind the two hundred dollars tax on
[15:10] Speaker 2: NFA items. In nineteen thirty four, you could buy a
[15:14] Speaker 2: suppressor for like ten bucks or less. They say, hey,
[15:18] Speaker 2: we're gonna put a two hundred dollar tax on it.
[15:21] Speaker 2: Think about that. So what's that two hundred percent tax?
[15:27] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[15:27] Speaker 2: I think So what if they put that on a gun.
[15:31] Speaker 2: You got a thousand dollars gun, we'renna put a two
[15:32] Speaker 2: hundred percent tax on it. And you said, well, they
[15:37] Speaker 2: would never do that, Yes, they would, because they already did.
[15:41] Speaker 2: They already put a two hundred dollar tax on machine
[15:45] Speaker 2: guns and SBRs and suppressors back in nineteen thirty four.
[15:52] Speaker 2: In Rhode Island, they've already had a ban on the
[15:57] Speaker 2: sale and transfer of semi automatic firearms basically RS. And
[16:06] Speaker 2: immediately after that, no surprise, no surprise, because this is
[16:09] Speaker 2: what they really want. One of the legislators says, well,
[16:13] Speaker 2: you know, if it's too dangerous to sell, then it's
[16:20] Speaker 2: too dangerous to own. And so she said, we're just
[16:25] Speaker 2: going to amend that. We're going to change that to
[16:27] Speaker 2: include the word possess, so it'd be not just a
[16:32] Speaker 2: ban on the sale or transfer of RS, but the
[16:38] Speaker 2: possession of them. That would be a ban on the ownership.
[16:42] Speaker 2: That would be a confiscation of them. And then in Canada,
[16:49] Speaker 2: of course, they're requiring the registration of guns and they've
[16:55] Speaker 2: had like a two to three percent compliance rate. And
[17:00] Speaker 2: now in Cana they're saying, yeah, we're just gonna send
[17:02] Speaker 2: the police door to door. Not sure how well that
[17:06] Speaker 2: would work here, although there are plenty of politicians who
[17:09] Speaker 2: would do it. And again people say, well, they would
[17:11] Speaker 2: never do that here. Yes they would, because they already have.
[17:17] Speaker 2: In New Orleans Hurricane Katrina, they sent the police door
[17:22] Speaker 2: to door and if you weren't at home, they kicked
[17:24] Speaker 2: in your door and searched the house and took all
[17:29] Speaker 2: the guns. The mayor said, there will be no guns
[17:34] Speaker 2: here that are not owned by police. People say, well,
[17:38] Speaker 2: the police would never actually do that, Yes they would.
[17:41] Speaker 2: How do we know that, because they already did. They
[17:45] Speaker 2: will follow their orders or they'll find somebody who does.
[17:50] Speaker 2: He said, well, I quit, great, Bye. Joey over there.
[17:54] Speaker 2: He wants a job. He likes the Bennies, he likes
[17:57] Speaker 2: the retirement program. Indoors and take people's guns. Yes they will,
[18:04] Speaker 2: Jim said Matt for Oregon on too. Hey, Jim, you're
[18:06] Speaker 2: on gun talk.
[18:07] Speaker 4: What you got?
[18:09] Speaker 7: Hey, Tom, are you doing? I'm nice to talk to
[18:11] Speaker 7: you again. I bought one of your GG twenty five
[18:14] Speaker 7: is a long time ago, and I was just I've
[18:17] Speaker 7: been hearing you talk about how many you know, you
[18:19] Speaker 7: got so many in nineteen eleven, and I was just
[18:22] Speaker 7: curious what you thought of that in the in this
[18:25] Speaker 7: whole scheme of things all than that. Yeah, where you
[18:28] Speaker 7: would rate it?
[18:30] Speaker 4: Okaya, fair question.
[18:31] Speaker 2: GT twenty five was a commander size for that quarter
[18:35] Speaker 2: inch barrel nineteen eleven we did with Ruger. It came
[18:40] Speaker 2: out of their Ruger custom shop. I'm just trying to
[18:42] Speaker 2: let get everybody to know what we're talking about here,
[18:43] Speaker 2: and it was a ten minlimeter. What we did with that, Jim,
[18:47] Speaker 2: is we change the specs on that. It's a version
[18:51] Speaker 2: that Ruger never made, and we use parts from cylinder
[18:55] Speaker 2: and slide Bill Offfers's outfit and really up a lot
[19:00] Speaker 2: of the parts. I would offer that that pistol would
[19:06] Speaker 2: compare favorably with four thousand dollars pistols today. Now that
[19:10] Speaker 2: was what six years ago now maybe now by more
[19:14] Speaker 2: like five because we got caught up in COVID. We
[19:15] Speaker 2: were a little late with the T T twenty five,
[19:17] Speaker 2: so about five years ago, and that was helped me out.
[19:21] Speaker 4: Was that like seventeen hundred bucks for that pistol?
[19:24] Speaker 7: That's what I paid for?
[19:25] Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, that's what it was, seventeen hundred dollars. If
[19:28] Speaker 2: you can find them today. You can still find them
[19:30] Speaker 2: for about that price. If they ever, they rarely rarely
[19:33] Speaker 2: show up because I mean, we only made but three
[19:35] Speaker 2: hundred and fifty of them or something. I think it's
[19:38] Speaker 2: one of the better ninety eleven's out there. All the
[19:42] Speaker 2: ones that I have experienced and the reports I've gotten
[19:45] Speaker 2: for people say they really shoot well, mine really shoot well?
[19:48] Speaker 2: Well you have one, how does your shoot?
[19:51] Speaker 7: I really like it. I think it's great. But I
[19:54] Speaker 7: don't have any other ones, so I didn't have anything
[19:56] Speaker 7: to compare it to. But that was that's why I
[19:58] Speaker 7: was curious what you vot, how it compared to all
[20:01] Speaker 7: the rest.
[20:01] Speaker 10: Of you have.
[20:02] Speaker 2: Okay, I would say I would put it right up
[20:07] Speaker 2: against the three to four thousand dollars pistol or nineteen
[20:11] Speaker 2: eleven's being.
[20:12] Speaker 4: Made today, and I think it would hold up very well.
[20:15] Speaker 2: I just I mean, I really liked the pistol I
[20:18] Speaker 2: was really happy. I mean they were making Just as
[20:21] Speaker 2: an example, Ruger said, we can make five of these
[20:24] Speaker 2: a day because they had a special team in the
[20:28] Speaker 2: plant that made these, and they're hand lapping the parts
[20:32] Speaker 2: and getting it to fit just right. It's essentially a custom,
[20:36] Speaker 2: you know, production custom gun, but handmade by a select
[20:40] Speaker 2: team of people. So yeah, the GT twenty five I
[20:43] Speaker 2: think was one of the best of the gun Talk guns.
[20:46] Speaker 2: So you're lucky to have gotten one. The only thing
[20:49] Speaker 2: you got to do is shoot it more man.
[20:55] Speaker 7: Yeah, time for one more question real quick.
[20:57] Speaker 4: I got about a minute.
[20:59] Speaker 7: Okay. I have an ar that I but ten fifteen
[21:04] Speaker 7: years ago, and I wanted to upgrade it, and I
[21:06] Speaker 7: was just wondering what kind of a barrel would you
[21:08] Speaker 7: put on something like that, that would that would work
[21:11] Speaker 7: for like say a mass you know you were going
[21:16] Speaker 7: to shoot it constantly? That would last?
[21:20] Speaker 4: Are you?
[21:21] Speaker 2: Honestly My answer is going to sound weird, but I
[21:23] Speaker 2: would say, don't change anything, just keep shooting us. Unless
[21:27] Speaker 2: you think the barrel shot out or something. I'm not sure.
[21:30] Speaker 2: I mean, barrels last a long time, and it's really
[21:33] Speaker 2: hard to shoot out a two two three barrel. I
[21:36] Speaker 2: mean you're talking five thousand plus rounds, maybe ten thousand rounds,
[21:40] Speaker 2: and then when you do if it's me, I mean,
[21:43] Speaker 2: you can spend a ton of money on high end barrels,
[21:46] Speaker 2: but unless you're doing competition work, I would probably just
[21:50] Speaker 2: buy an average run of the mill barrel and swap
[21:52] Speaker 2: it out and just keep on shooting. Now having said that,
[21:55] Speaker 2: I mean I'm not a competition shooter. You can do
[21:57] Speaker 2: in long range stuff and oh yes, spend the money
[21:59] Speaker 2: you want with that very fine accuracy. But if you're
[22:03] Speaker 2: like me, I just like to go to the range
[22:04] Speaker 2: and shoot. But I'm just gonna get something to throws
[22:07] Speaker 2: the browns. Well, not that I want it to be
[22:09] Speaker 2: a acurate but not. I'm not gonna stand crazy body
[22:12] Speaker 2: on it. Just but you know, I tell you, you
[22:14] Speaker 2: do you.
[22:22] Speaker 10: I just want to go to the places I want
[22:24] Speaker 10: to go, and I want to hunt with people I
[22:26] Speaker 10: want to hunt with, and I don't care if I
[22:27] Speaker 10: pull the trigger.
[22:28] Speaker 8: But I'm with you.
[22:29] Speaker 10: If there's a somebody that's a friend of friends who's
[22:32] Speaker 10: got a kid, or somebody that's want to be introduced
[22:34] Speaker 10: to sport, bring them on, baby. I am absolutely up
[22:36] Speaker 10: for that task of love it.
[22:38] Speaker 2: Hey, welcome back to gun Talk. I'm Tom Gresham, of course,
[22:41] Speaker 2: and you can call us anytime because we'll talk about
[22:44] Speaker 2: darning or anything. Give you a call it Tom Talk Gun.
[22:46] Speaker 2: That's the number. Easy to remember that way, Tom Talk Gun.
[22:50] Speaker 2: It is that time of year we're thinking about spring stuff. Yeah, man,
[22:54] Speaker 2: in the fall we talk about hunting. But you know
[22:56] Speaker 2: a lot of us hunt. Well pretty much you're a
[22:58] Speaker 2: round and the guy I'm talking with right now, Chris
[23:00] Speaker 2: Ellis from Timmy Tregger's. I don't know that you ever
[23:02] Speaker 2: stopp hunting.
[23:03] Speaker 4: Burner. Well, I don't tell too many people.
[23:06] Speaker 10: Especially my employer and my wife, but no, yeah, absolutely hunt.
[23:10] Speaker 10: I hunt turkey birds and anytime there's a season, and yeah,
[23:14] Speaker 10: I'm notorious squirrel hunter, notorious white tail hunter. The reason
[23:19] Speaker 10: being Tom is I kind.
[23:20] Speaker 4: Of like to eat.
[23:22] Speaker 2: Well, you know, I mean, I know if somebody calls
[23:24] Speaker 2: you and says, hey, Chris, you want to go on
[23:25] Speaker 2: and X whatever it is, hunt the.
[23:27] Speaker 4: Extras for sure. Let me just check our schedule.
[23:30] Speaker 10: Usually it's yes, and then I'll forgo ot my schedule right, Yeah.
[23:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, sure we're going to do that. I'll go clear
[23:35] Speaker 4: the schedule. Let's go absolutely exactly.
[23:39] Speaker 10: Well, you and I in a couple of weeks, we're
[23:41] Speaker 10: going to be going down to the NRA show. And
[23:43] Speaker 10: I thought, well, that's right in the manner of turkey season.
[23:46] Speaker 4: We've got to stop.
[23:47] Speaker 10: By Oklahoma on the way down and see if I
[23:49] Speaker 10: can't fool one of those rio turkeys into a shotgun.
[23:53] Speaker 3: Rang. We know.
[23:54] Speaker 2: I like the way you think, because for a hunter,
[23:57] Speaker 2: for anybody else, they would look at that and think, yeah,
[23:59] Speaker 2: that's I am really on the way Chris. He said, no, no, no,
[24:02] Speaker 2: when you're a hunter, you go yeah. But we can
[24:05] Speaker 2: make it on the way because we'll just bend that
[24:07] Speaker 2: line a little bit over there.
[24:09] Speaker 10: Well, sure, it's least in the right direction.
[24:11] Speaker 4: I mean true, it's not next to Maine.
[24:14] Speaker 10: We're going to Texas State.
[24:18] Speaker 2: Okay, so you'll love this. I for about the last
[24:22] Speaker 2: two weeks. Our turkey season doesn't open until next week,
[24:25] Speaker 2: and but for the last two weeks, every morning I
[24:28] Speaker 2: step out on my deck, I give a big old
[24:30] Speaker 2: hootol and then I get them gobbling because I know
[24:33] Speaker 2: where they roosed up the hill right behind the house.
[24:35] Speaker 2: And then sometimes I'll take my call out and start calling.
[24:38] Speaker 2: I'll walk up and down the road behind our house
[24:41] Speaker 2: and make them think it's a hen. And I'm just
[24:43] Speaker 2: like Doctor Doolittle. I'm out there talking to the animals.
[24:45] Speaker 2: I'm having such a good old time.
[24:48] Speaker 10: Isn't it fun?
[24:49] Speaker 4: It really is.
[24:51] Speaker 10: I love to hunt when I can communicate as I
[24:54] Speaker 10: get older, just to be able to communicate with that animal.
[24:57] Speaker 10: And I don't care if it's sparking to a squirrel
[24:59] Speaker 10: or buglingto an elk, or yelp into a turkey or whatever.
[25:02] Speaker 10: When they respond, I just find that it just firks joy.
[25:05] Speaker 10: It's it just adds.
[25:07] Speaker 8: Another dimension to that hunt.
[25:08] Speaker 10: I guess duck hunters have done it well.
[25:10] Speaker 4: We had a boys. Duck hunters known that for years
[25:12] Speaker 4: there and years.
[25:13] Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, it's funny you say that,
[25:14] Speaker 2: because I kind of figured out at some point there's
[25:17] Speaker 2: just something.
[25:17] Speaker 4: Extra about it.
[25:18] Speaker 2: When I can call and as you say, whether it's
[25:21] Speaker 2: an elk or a duck, or a goose or a turkey,
[25:24] Speaker 2: you got some interaction going back and forth. And I
[25:27] Speaker 2: love to hunt elk, you know, and later season you're
[25:30] Speaker 2: not calling, but if you can get a chance to
[25:32] Speaker 2: get out there in this bugling season, it's a whole
[25:35] Speaker 2: different thing.
[25:36] Speaker 4: Oh, it's so much fun.
[25:37] Speaker 10: And you know, they compare turkeys to elk, and I
[25:40] Speaker 10: don't know if that's necessarily an apples to apples comparison,
[25:43] Speaker 10: but I have.
[25:44] Speaker 4: Been in the elk woods when they're.
[25:45] Speaker 10: Bugling like crazy and very very active, and I've been
[25:48] Speaker 10: in the turkey woods for the last thirty six years,
[25:50] Speaker 10: and when they're gobbling and they're acting like crazy, it
[25:53] Speaker 10: is a store a heck of a lot of fun.
[25:55] Speaker 2: Well, especially if you got them like on different sides
[25:58] Speaker 2: of you going off your shirt.
[26:00] Speaker 4: Sure what you're supposed to do with that? I love it.
[26:03] Speaker 10: I mean absolutely, I've been afflicted by the wild turkey
[26:06] Speaker 10: for like I said, I've been my thirty sixth season
[26:09] Speaker 10: hunting them fall in winter and spring. But yeah, if
[26:14] Speaker 10: I get an opportunity, I know this is this is
[26:17] Speaker 10: I'm really telling all myself.
[26:18] Speaker 8: But yeah, for example, n RA show in Texas.
[26:22] Speaker 10: Why not look and see what's in Oklahoma that's by
[26:27] Speaker 10: for a.
[26:27] Speaker 2: Day, or we'll swing over there and do all right,
[26:30] Speaker 2: So let's talk about gear because turkey. Yeah, I mean
[26:33] Speaker 2: I started hunting with Ben rogers Lee, so there are
[26:36] Speaker 2: very few people are gonna know what I'm talking about
[26:37] Speaker 2: but you do.
[26:38] Speaker 4: We're talking.
[26:39] Speaker 2: We're talking away, all right. You'll love this. One of
[26:41] Speaker 2: my favorite quotes from Ben. We're sitting out there just
[26:44] Speaker 2: at first light. We're standing on dirt road, right and
[26:48] Speaker 2: he hoots, we're here, gobbler over there.
[26:51] Speaker 4: You know.
[26:52] Speaker 2: He looks at me and says, there's one too many
[26:54] Speaker 2: people standing here. In other words, I'm going.
[26:59] Speaker 10: After this turn, and you're not exactly You didn't care
[27:03] Speaker 10: where you're going, You're just not Going's.
[27:06] Speaker 2: Right, That's right, all right. So that's a long time ago.
[27:09] Speaker 2: We got different gear today. I mean, we're basically just
[27:11] Speaker 2: taking whatever shotgun we used for waterfowl or anything else.
[27:15] Speaker 2: The gears different and specialized for turkey hunting. Now not it,
[27:19] Speaker 2: you know, don't want to leave out the trigger, but
[27:22] Speaker 2: it's we're basically shooting a shotgun like a rifle.
[27:25] Speaker 10: Yeah, it was. I'd have to think back on. I
[27:28] Speaker 10: was extremely proud of our customers. They wanted an eight
[27:32] Speaker 10: seventy trigger fix is what they called it back in
[27:35] Speaker 10: the day.
[27:36] Speaker 4: And you're exactly right.
[27:38] Speaker 10: The slug gun hunters, the turkey hunters, and even the
[27:42] Speaker 10: trap shooters to some extent, basically what you were doing,
[27:45] Speaker 10: you were trying to squeeze accuracy. It's the same thing
[27:47] Speaker 10: we've been doing with rifles for your years. You're just
[27:49] Speaker 10: trying to squeeze a little bit more accuracy out of it.
[27:53] Speaker 10: If you're going to have a load choke combination and
[27:55] Speaker 10: you're going to super tighten that choke up, then you
[27:58] Speaker 10: really need that trigger to go boom the same way
[28:01] Speaker 10: twice if you want that, you know, that pattern to
[28:04] Speaker 10: hit the same way. Especially when people started, you know,
[28:07] Speaker 10: stretching the boundaries a little bit of turkey hunting on
[28:09] Speaker 10: some of the distance, just like long range shooting. You know,
[28:13] Speaker 10: you know what I was going up. If you shot
[28:15] Speaker 10: a turkey at twenty twenty two yards, that was a
[28:17] Speaker 10: long shot.
[28:20] Speaker 2: Nowadays got these crazy loads and chokes. I mean it's
[28:23] Speaker 2: like what sixty seventy yards.
[28:26] Speaker 10: I guess it just depends on like long range shooting
[28:29] Speaker 10: for elk or western hanging out. If you're talented and
[28:31] Speaker 10: you've got the time and energy and you can prove
[28:33] Speaker 10: that you can do it, go for it. But yeah,
[28:35] Speaker 10: for stretch the barrel to a thirty yard turkey shot
[28:38] Speaker 10: of thirty five, a trigger does matter.
[28:41] Speaker 4: And that little trigger, that little.
[28:43] Speaker 10: Eight seventy fix It's all it does is tighten up
[28:46] Speaker 10: when that trigger is going to break and make that
[28:48] Speaker 10: trigger more repeatable every single time. So you have the
[28:53] Speaker 10: muscle memory turkey hunters, slug gun deer hunters to when
[28:57] Speaker 10: you call for that shot. You've got to get up
[29:00] Speaker 10: hitting right where you've been practicing.
[29:02] Speaker 2: You know, you and I have done this for a
[29:04] Speaker 2: long time, and it is hard to describe what you're
[29:07] Speaker 2: talking about, what the advantage is of a trigger, because
[29:10] Speaker 2: it's a field thing. You know, it's just and I
[29:13] Speaker 2: kind of figured one thing out, and you know, we
[29:15] Speaker 2: all talk about you know, all right, I want to
[29:18] Speaker 2: shoot right now.
[29:20] Speaker 4: The difference is a really good trigger, it goes.
[29:24] Speaker 2: Off before you can finish the end in now right,
[29:29] Speaker 2: absolutely right, and it's gone. It's like you think about it,
[29:33] Speaker 2: it's gone, and the difference is everything.
[29:37] Speaker 8: It's exactly right.
[29:38] Speaker 10: It's more of a mental call than it is because
[29:41] Speaker 10: you take all the physical creep and slop and just
[29:45] Speaker 10: the nastiness of a bad trigger. You take that out
[29:48] Speaker 10: and you get it to where it's down to a
[29:49] Speaker 10: muscle memory and it's totally repeatable with a little bit
[29:52] Speaker 10: of practice. You know, exactly when your brain says I
[29:55] Speaker 10: can make that shot that elks at two hundred and
[29:57] Speaker 10: nineteen yards. I practice make that shot. It's now a
[30:01] Speaker 10: mental decision, and the gun goes follows your brain because
[30:05] Speaker 10: you have practice and you have that muscle memory.
[30:08] Speaker 4: It's the same thing.
[30:08] Speaker 10: We've talked about this in the past, but the same
[30:10] Speaker 10: thing as somebody shooting a free throw over and over,
[30:13] Speaker 10: golfer sinking a putt or whatever. It's because they have
[30:17] Speaker 10: so much repetition, repetition behind them and so much muscle
[30:20] Speaker 10: memory that when their brain says I'm taking the shot,
[30:23] Speaker 10: they take the shot and they score.
[30:26] Speaker 4: YEP. I share a quick story with you.
[30:29] Speaker 2: I just got down a rifle because I'm crazy about
[30:32] Speaker 2: Melvin Forbes just ulted light arms sitting and you know,
[30:34] Speaker 2: I mean, you knew Melvin good Old And I got
[30:38] Speaker 2: another one if he is and came in two two
[30:40] Speaker 2: three left handed. Of course I do that thing the
[30:42] Speaker 2: wrong handed, So there you go, and try to trigger
[30:45] Speaker 2: it out and went, oh man, that's light. Holy smoke.
[30:49] Speaker 2: I mean, I like light triggers. But that was like, okay,
[30:52] Speaker 2: I gotta do something about that. And I remembered, wait
[30:54] Speaker 2: a minute, Malvioln put too many triggers in his guns.
[30:57] Speaker 2: All I got to do is adjust that. It's a
[30:58] Speaker 2: it's a nothing.
[30:59] Speaker 4: It's enough. I'll just make that whatever I wanted to be.
[31:03] Speaker 10: Yeah, he Melvin used our triggers long long, long, long,
[31:07] Speaker 10: long time ago and always always insisted that that you
[31:11] Speaker 10: use attendee and he understood the quality. And Melvin was
[31:14] Speaker 10: a dear friend of mine. He taught us a lot,
[31:16] Speaker 10: to be honest with you, because you know, Melvin was way.
[31:18] Speaker 4: Before his time. Oh he was a savant, he really was.
[31:22] Speaker 4: He was.
[31:22] Speaker 10: I mean that new new ultra light arms, that super lightweight.
[31:26] Speaker 4: You know, I carry him. You carry him.
[31:28] Speaker 10: The reason we do is because the first of all,
[31:30] Speaker 10: they're amazing hunting tool, and second of all, they shoot
[31:33] Speaker 10: better than we do.
[31:34] Speaker 8: I mean, they just do.
[31:36] Speaker 10: But he knew quality, and he knew what the what
[31:39] Speaker 10: the customer wanted, and he knew what he wanted to
[31:41] Speaker 10: put his name on, and he was way out in
[31:44] Speaker 10: front of this industry as just a West Virginia boy
[31:46] Speaker 10: that grew up as a shop teacher and just wanted
[31:49] Speaker 10: to make the lightest, lightweight, accurate hunting rifle. He did it.
[31:53] Speaker 10: I mean Melvin, I still carry Melvin today. I mean
[31:56] Speaker 10: I'm Melvin rifle was my go to.
[31:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. I ask you, I'm looking at the website.
[32:01] Speaker 2: You're doing these uh like giveaways. Got I'm looking at
[32:04] Speaker 2: your April giveaway right now. I got an ar trigger.
[32:08] Speaker 12: Yeah.
[32:08] Speaker 4: It started many, many years ago.
[32:10] Speaker 10: And again we had we have the best customers world.
[32:12] Speaker 10: Every manufacturer says they have the best customers world, but
[32:15] Speaker 10: I'm pretty partial to ours. And one of the things
[32:17] Speaker 10: that that I thought would kind of be cool and
[32:19] Speaker 10: they really really got behind it, was so every month
[32:21] Speaker 10: we just pick a maybe it's a popular trigger, maybe
[32:24] Speaker 10: it's a trigger that people hadn't really heard of, or
[32:26] Speaker 10: it's a new genre or whatever, and we just give
[32:28] Speaker 10: them a chance to win it. You get our website
[32:30] Speaker 10: and there's a little giveaway button there at the top.
[32:32] Speaker 10: You push that and hey, if you like that trigger,
[32:34] Speaker 10: you have a gun that you need a trigger for,
[32:37] Speaker 10: why not? You know, it's fun.
[32:39] Speaker 2: It's Timmy triggers. It's t I M N e y
[32:42] Speaker 2: people trying to figure out how to spell it t
[32:43] Speaker 2: I M anyway, timn triggers dot and then this case
[32:47] Speaker 2: just Timmy Triggers dot com. All right, so we got that,
[32:50] Speaker 2: you got triggers for shotguns. You got triggers for rifles
[32:53] Speaker 2: and you got into the handgun market some years ago,
[32:57] Speaker 2: and you're you're.
[32:58] Speaker 4: Really on top of that.
[33:00] Speaker 10: Oh, we absolutely Again, our customers asked us to build
[33:03] Speaker 10: a competition trigger. We started out with Alpha Competition with
[33:07] Speaker 10: Glock Gen three fours, and then they asked us for
[33:10] Speaker 10: the Gen five and then we expanded that, you know,
[33:13] Speaker 10: to the Ultimate Builder's Kit, and we have different colors
[33:15] Speaker 10: and shoes and just whatever our customers want. Well, it
[33:18] Speaker 10: didn't take them long. When Glock introduced a new Gen six,
[33:22] Speaker 10: they wanted to know if Timdy would make a replacement trigger,
[33:24] Speaker 10: competition trigger for that. And that's been about a month ago,
[33:28] Speaker 10: maybe just a touch more. So it's brand spanking new
[33:31] Speaker 10: that we came out with that. But yeah, we our
[33:34] Speaker 10: Alpha Competition series has just been an absolute game changer
[33:38] Speaker 10: as far as what our customers asked for and what
[33:40] Speaker 10: we've been able with their help to deliver to the market.
[33:43] Speaker 4: So we're excited about that. Yeah, I'm thinking about that.
[33:46] Speaker 2: In competition shooters, they're kind of like the race car drivers.
[33:50] Speaker 2: They do the proving ground stuff for us and we
[33:52] Speaker 2: get the benefit of it, but they would not be
[33:55] Speaker 2: taking their guns apart and putting in replacement triggers unless
[33:59] Speaker 2: they fail like a gamem an advantage.
[34:01] Speaker 4: I really as simple as that, exactly.
[34:04] Speaker 10: Bow hunters, competition shooters, they're all cut from the same thread.
[34:08] Speaker 10: If there is any way they can squeak out a
[34:10] Speaker 10: little bit of an advantage, a little bit more accuracy
[34:13] Speaker 10: or a little bit more yardage, they don't care what
[34:15] Speaker 10: hurdle they got to jump over.
[34:17] Speaker 4: And if they got to take.
[34:17] Speaker 10: A gun apart to put a new triger in that
[34:19] Speaker 10: that's that's price pick well paid for accuracy right for competition?
[34:23] Speaker 4: Sure?
[34:24] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean a couple of points makes the
[34:26] Speaker 2: difference between going home with the trophy and just going home.
[34:29] Speaker 10: Absolutely, meaning you you know, lifelong hunters, we concentrate on
[34:32] Speaker 10: a minute of angle of elk or the minute of
[34:33] Speaker 10: an angle of white tail. And don't get me wrong,
[34:35] Speaker 10: I mean we're we're tightening up our groups as tight
[34:37] Speaker 10: as possible because that's how we are. But those competition ladies,
[34:41] Speaker 10: they're men and ladies, they're they're they're different, they're different.
[34:45] Speaker 4: Different, aren't they.
[34:46] Speaker 2: Absolutely there's this there's absolutely nothing they wouldn't do to
[34:49] Speaker 2: get one more point or one hundredth of a second
[34:52] Speaker 2: off their time. And I want to say it's not
[34:55] Speaker 2: that the guns being made now have bad triggers. I
[34:57] Speaker 2: think actually, factor triggers now are so much better than
[35:00] Speaker 2: worth thirty years ago.
[35:02] Speaker 4: It's just that even though it's a good trigger, the.
[35:06] Speaker 2: Manufacturers generally can't or don't want to give you a
[35:10] Speaker 2: great trigger.
[35:12] Speaker 4: Fair enough.
[35:13] Speaker 8: Yeah, but you're exactly right.
[35:14] Speaker 10: Triggers, Well, Tom, you and I have been talking about
[35:16] Speaker 10: triggers for over twenty years and we really haven't changed
[35:19] Speaker 10: our you know, our delivery on it. It helps you
[35:22] Speaker 10: become more accurate with your firearm. That's it's period. That's
[35:25] Speaker 10: that's it. I mean, it's there's nothing else besides that.
[35:28] Speaker 4: Better you just shoot shoot better.
[35:30] Speaker 10: Yeah, But to your point, the triggers that are coming
[35:33] Speaker 10: on factory guns now and just the just the barrels
[35:37] Speaker 10: and just the factory guns and period in general, the
[35:39] Speaker 10: amos better, the technology is better, the you know, the
[35:43] Speaker 10: way they cut metal nowadays, the way we cut metal
[35:45] Speaker 10: nowadays is much better. All that stuff is so much
[35:48] Speaker 10: better than it was twenty thirty years ago, and it
[35:50] Speaker 10: just keeps getting better. But yeah, the replacement trigger, if
[35:55] Speaker 10: you need a trigger.
[35:56] Speaker 4: Replace it, if you don't don't, right.
[35:59] Speaker 10: I mean, if you that, you're real happy.
[36:03] Speaker 2: Here's the problem with that, though, cus is a lot
[36:06] Speaker 2: of people are happy with the situation that they don't
[36:09] Speaker 2: know can be a good bit better because they hadn't
[36:11] Speaker 2: been exposed to it.
[36:12] Speaker 4: I don't know what you do with that.
[36:13] Speaker 2: If you've never experienced what a really good trigger can do,
[36:16] Speaker 2: you just don't know what you're missing out.
[36:19] Speaker 10: On until you're at a range and try someone else's
[36:22] Speaker 10: firearm that has a decent trigger, or until you put
[36:25] Speaker 10: a trigger in it and understand, your eyes aren't open
[36:28] Speaker 10: until they're open. But once you know, you know, you're
[36:30] Speaker 10: like me and you once you know, you've got to
[36:32] Speaker 10: replace the trigger on everything you can.
[36:34] Speaker 2: And then, okay, here's the part that we don't talk about,
[36:37] Speaker 2: and it is the ugly part of this whole thing.
[36:39] Speaker 2: Once you start doing that, you're cursed to become a
[36:42] Speaker 2: trigger snob. From that point forward.
[36:45] Speaker 10: You gladly be called a snob for the first time
[36:48] Speaker 10: in your life.
[36:48] Speaker 4: You're like, yep, I.
[36:50] Speaker 10: Am officially a tongue question you are.
[36:53] Speaker 2: I mean, it's like you're thinking, yeah, okay, yeah, that's
[36:55] Speaker 2: a nice rifle you got there, guy, But and then
[36:57] Speaker 2: quietly you're thinking, pammit that trigger, holy cow, and it
[37:01] Speaker 2: ruins you. The first thing we do, what do we do?
[37:03] Speaker 2: We check your accent, We try the trigger on a gun.
[37:05] Speaker 10: Well it also you know, it can save you a
[37:07] Speaker 10: lot of cash too, because you probably got some guns
[37:09] Speaker 10: in your gun cabinet there and your gun safety. They
[37:11] Speaker 10: are probably good shooters if they had a trigger. Right. So,
[37:14] Speaker 10: if you're getting a little tighter or whatever, the world's
[37:16] Speaker 10: a little tight and you needed to put good scope
[37:19] Speaker 10: on it last year, maybe put a sling, worked up
[37:21] Speaker 10: some handloads or whatever, but you're still not getting that accuracy.
[37:24] Speaker 10: For a little bit of cash, you could try a
[37:25] Speaker 10: trigger and see if it tightens up. I'm betting it will,
[37:28] Speaker 10: all right.
[37:28] Speaker 2: And one last thing I want to say, if you
[37:30] Speaker 2: don't know how to put in a trigger, fear not,
[37:32] Speaker 2: because the folks Attimney will help you out. You got videos,
[37:35] Speaker 2: you got people you could talk to. I mean, you
[37:37] Speaker 2: make it possible and even easy.
[37:39] Speaker 10: Eighty years we've been telling people and teach them how
[37:42] Speaker 10: to watch triggers, minter and how to put them in firearms.
[37:44] Speaker 8: We got that down.
[37:45] Speaker 4: If they need help, I'm gonna be at the NRA Show.
[37:48] Speaker 4: You're gonna be over there too, right?
[37:50] Speaker 9: Well?
[37:50] Speaker 10: Absolutely, I'm hopefully I'll have some fresh turkey in my
[37:52] Speaker 10: check in, but go ahead.
[37:53] Speaker 4: There you go.
[37:53] Speaker 2: I just gonna say, uh, for folks, there are people
[37:56] Speaker 2: who are listening who are going to be at the
[37:57] Speaker 2: RA Annual meetings in Houston.
[37:59] Speaker 4: Be sure, die By, Are you guys gonna have a
[38:01] Speaker 4: booth there? Absolutely?
[38:03] Speaker 10: Yeah, we'll have our full technical folks there. If you
[38:05] Speaker 10: got any questions, We'll have all our men and women
[38:07] Speaker 10: that know everything about guns and triggers. Stop buying, shot
[38:10] Speaker 10: the stump to jump and tell us what suggars we
[38:12] Speaker 10: should be building. That's the funnest port about the NRARA
[38:14] Speaker 10: Show is learning what we know where all these triggers
[38:16] Speaker 10: came from the age seventy and the glockie all came
[38:19] Speaker 10: from somebody telling us, Hey, won't y'all make a timney
[38:21] Speaker 10: for that walk up.
[38:21] Speaker 2: To Chris and say hey, I want to show you
[38:23] Speaker 2: a picture of my deer, my elk, or my turkey
[38:25] Speaker 2: or something. And then you guys could take that turn
[38:27] Speaker 2: swapping pictures and show me everybody or what you' even.
[38:29] Speaker 4: Out there shooting.
[38:30] Speaker 10: I'd love that would make my day yeah, if you're
[38:32] Speaker 10: a hunter out there, stop buying. See me at the
[38:34] Speaker 10: NRRA show.
[38:34] Speaker 4: There you go, Chris Alis.
[38:35] Speaker 2: I appreciate your time, I appreciate your friendship, and you
[38:38] Speaker 2: guys make good stuff. I'm just gonna tell people, I've
[38:40] Speaker 2: been using Timney's triggers for fifty years, and uh, I
[38:44] Speaker 2: believe it and I use them.
[38:45] Speaker 10: Well, I appreciate that work for Timdy for twenty one.
[38:48] Speaker 10: Now talk You've been talking triggers together for twenty one years.
[38:51] Speaker 10: Isn't it crazy?
[38:51] Speaker 3: That?
[38:52] Speaker 4: Yeah? Cow, Well it's good company. You know.
[38:55] Speaker 2: It's nice when you work in a place you never
[38:57] Speaker 2: have to make any excuses for.
[39:00] Speaker 10: I love it. I love I love American manufacturing, love
[39:03] Speaker 10: the Second Amendment.
[39:03] Speaker 8: I love to hunt.
[39:04] Speaker 10: So that's just right up my aleand there you go.
[39:06] Speaker 4: Look, I will see you in Houston, my friend.
[39:08] Speaker 8: I'll be there.
[39:14] Speaker 2: I'm looking at this story out of California and had
[39:16] Speaker 2: a flashback to when I was growing up. The story
[39:19] Speaker 2: is someone may have maliciously caused a huge rodent invasion
[39:25] Speaker 2: in California. Sube is the state's multimillion dollar war on
[39:32] Speaker 2: neutria continues. All right, they got nutria in California and
[39:36] Speaker 2: they think they came from Oregon. I remember seeing nutrient
[39:39] Speaker 2: in Oregon, like twenty five thirty years ago. I was
[39:41] Speaker 2: played at a golf course there. Saw I'm swimming around.
[39:43] Speaker 2: What's the nutrient? Well, growing up in Louisiana, we're kind
[39:45] Speaker 2: of the home of nutrient. It's a twenty five twenty
[39:49] Speaker 2: to twenty five pound rat. Basically think of a beaver
[39:54] Speaker 2: that's cosmetically challenged. It has a skinny tale instead of
[39:58] Speaker 2: a flat tail, so it just looks like a rat.
[40:00] Speaker 2: And it is came from South America or big old
[40:03] Speaker 2: orange teeth. He'll tippered things well. As a kid, teenager,
[40:09] Speaker 2: we lived on a lake. We would go out and
[40:11] Speaker 2: hunt frogs, hunt this hunt that we decided we would
[40:14] Speaker 2: go out and hunt nutria at night with a bow.
[40:18] Speaker 2: And I don't know why, but I decided to use
[40:20] Speaker 2: my bow fishing rig. That's the one where you shoot
[40:22] Speaker 2: a really heavy, solid fiberglass arrow attached to a piece
[40:26] Speaker 2: of line that comes back to the bow. When you
[40:29] Speaker 2: shoot a fish, you can pull it back in. Sure enough,
[40:32] Speaker 2: We're going along at night spotlighting this nutria in like
[40:36] Speaker 2: a fourteen foot john boat and I shoot this nutria.
[40:41] Speaker 2: Didn't really make good contact with it just got under
[40:43] Speaker 2: the skin. And now I am attached by this line
[40:48] Speaker 2: to a twenty five pound really angry rat, and I'm
[40:54] Speaker 2: pulling it in towards the boat and he's splashing and
[40:57] Speaker 2: going crazy, and I'm thinking, all right, what are we
[40:59] Speaker 2: gonna do here? But I thought ahead. You know when
[41:02] Speaker 2: you go to the baseball games and they give out
[41:04] Speaker 2: those little tiny souvenir baseball bats.
[41:08] Speaker 4: Yeah, they had one of those in the boat.
[41:11] Speaker 2: So you can imagine fourteen year old Tom leaning overside
[41:16] Speaker 2: of this boat having hauled in this twenty five pound
[41:18] Speaker 2: rat that's just losing its mind because it got stuck
[41:21] Speaker 2: by this arrow and just under the skin. I pulled
[41:24] Speaker 2: it in and it's thrashing around, and I'm racing around
[41:27] Speaker 2: with this baseball bat, and I'm wailing on this thing
[41:31] Speaker 2: to try to pacify it, if you will. It was
[41:36] Speaker 2: I'm sure if somebody happened to be watching the biggest
[41:39] Speaker 2: goat rope you've ever seen. I did survive it. I
[41:43] Speaker 2: did conquer, and the Nutria bit the dust. People are
[41:48] Speaker 2: always trying to figure out how to get rid of Nutria.
[41:50] Speaker 2: They tried something in Louisiana many years ago. The marketing
[41:54] Speaker 2: on it was a little bit suspect. They decided to
[41:59] Speaker 2: market to restaurants and get the restaurants to serve it
[42:05] Speaker 2: as a Louisiana food, but nobody wanted to eat a nutrient,
[42:11] Speaker 2: so they rebranded the meat and they titled it swamp rebbit. Yeah,
[42:20] Speaker 2: nobody was having that either. They were not gonna be
[42:23] Speaker 2: able to cont anybody into thinking that this big rat
[42:26] Speaker 2: was a swamp rabbitt. And so now you've got actually
[42:30] Speaker 2: sheriff's departments in some parts of the state of Louisiana.
[42:34] Speaker 2: They're going round at night spotlight and nutria shooting them
[42:37] Speaker 2: to get them off the levees because they dig holes
[42:39] Speaker 2: in the levees and we need the levees for flood
[42:41] Speaker 2: protection and these things are drilling big holes and eroding though.
[42:45] Speaker 2: So they're out there it looks like zero dark thirty.
[42:49] Speaker 2: You know, Seal Team six going after nutrient a night
[42:52] Speaker 2: with nods and night vision and everything else. It is
[42:56] Speaker 2: great fun, but there is no possibility ever of wiping
[43:00] Speaker 2: out nutrients. Kind of like trying to get rid of
[43:02] Speaker 2: the faral hogs. Now that ship has sailed and it
[43:05] Speaker 2: is not coming back. You can knock down the numbers
[43:07] Speaker 2: as best you can be, which you're not going to.
[43:09] Speaker 4: Get rid of them. So there you go.
[43:10] Speaker 2: There's my nutriar story, and that's basically a good glimpse
[43:14] Speaker 2: of how I grew up on the water in boats
[43:17] Speaker 2: with guns, with bows with everything else. We skied behind everything,
[43:22] Speaker 2: We skied on top of everything. We would turn the
[43:24] Speaker 2: top of a ice and Nick glue cooter upside down
[43:27] Speaker 2: and jump on that and ski on that. It was
[43:30] Speaker 2: a wacky way to grow up, but boy, it was
[43:32] Speaker 2: sure fun. Don't go far, we'll be right back. I'm
[43:35] Speaker 2: Tom Gresham, glad that you're here.
