## Transcript

[0:03] Speaker 1: Last January, I decided to take a week off work
[0:07] Speaker 1: after New Year's. My plan was to enjoy a quiet
[0:11] Speaker 1: week while everyone else was back at work. I wanted
[0:15] Speaker 1: to do some shopping and just relax at my apartment.
[0:19] Speaker 1: On this particular day, I was driving around in the snow,
[0:24] Speaker 1: visiting a few stores before heading back home around 7 p.m.
[0:29] Speaker 1: I went inside, cooled off, and sat down on the
[0:32] Speaker 1: couch with some snacks. I was watching TV and even
[0:36] Speaker 1: dozed off a bit after a long day out. However,
[0:40] Speaker 1: around 8.30 p.m., the peer system in my apartment buzzed,
[0:46] Speaker 1: indicating that someone was outside and wanted to be let in.
[0:50] Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting anyone, so I had no idea who
[0:54] Speaker 1: it could be. They buzzed my room again, so I
[0:57] Speaker 1: went to the window to see who it was. there
[1:00] Speaker 1: stood a large man at the door of the apartment building.
[1:04] Speaker 1: It was still snowy and dark outside, but I could
[1:07] Speaker 1: tell he was older, maybe in his mid-forty. I had
[1:11] Speaker 1: never seen him before, and there were only three other
[1:14] Speaker 1: people living in the complex at the time, so I
[1:17] Speaker 1: was familiar with everyone. I assumed that if he lived
[1:21] Speaker 1: here or was visiting someone, they would let him in.
[1:25] Speaker 1: I muted the PA system, went back to the couch,
[1:28] Speaker 1: and continued watching TV. I didn't think much of it,
[1:33] Speaker 1: and even dozed off a few more times over the
[1:35] Speaker 1: next hour. Eventually, I turned off the TV and went
[1:40] Speaker 1: to bed, probably around 10pm. I fell asleep as soon
[1:45] Speaker 1: as I laid down. However, a few hours into the night,
[1:49] Speaker 1: I was abruptly awakened by a loud thud from outside
[1:52] Speaker 1: my room. I was startled and didn't know what it
[1:56] Speaker 1: was or where it came from. My heart was racing
[2:00] Speaker 1: as I stared at my door, listening for any other sounds.
[2:04] Speaker 1: It was eerily quiet, as if nothing had happened at all.
[2:08] Speaker 1: I rolled out of bed and sluggishly made my way
[2:11] Speaker 1: towards the door. Leaning in, I pressed my ear against it,
[2:15] Speaker 1: hoping to catch any sound from the other side. It
[2:19] Speaker 1: was eerily quiet, with only the occasional creaking of the walls.
[2:24] Speaker 1: With a deep breath, I turned the doorknob and peered
[2:27] Speaker 1: into the dimly lit living room. Everything seemed normal, but
[2:32] Speaker 1: a strange feeling lingered, urging me to stay silent. So,
[2:37] Speaker 1: I decided to navigate through the darkness, cautiously scanning the
[2:41] Speaker 1: front hallway. To my horror, the door to my apartment
[2:45] Speaker 1: was wide open. Panic surged through me, freezing me in
[2:49] Speaker 1: place as I stared at the gaping entrance. It felt unreal.
[2:54] Speaker 1: almost like a nightmare. I took a few steps back,
[2:58] Speaker 1: trying to stay as quiet as possible, and retreated back
[3:01] Speaker 1: to my room. As I closed the door behind me,
[3:04] Speaker 1: I noticed a massive dent near the doorknob. Fear consumed me,
[3:09] Speaker 1: and I immediately locked the door and dialed 911, hiding
[3:14] Speaker 1: in the safety of my closet. I was convinced that
[3:17] Speaker 1: the intruder was still lurking somewhere in my apartment, and
[3:20] Speaker 1: it was only a matter of time before they reached
[3:22] Speaker 1: my room. As I anxiously waited for the police to arrive,
[3:27] Speaker 1: the silence in the apartment was deafening. Strangely enough, the
[3:32] Speaker 1: intruder seemed to have vanished, leaving no trace behind. Even
[3:37] Speaker 1: the police couldn't find any clues to help identify or
[3:40] Speaker 1: locate them. Their theory was that the intruder had attempted
[3:45] Speaker 1: to gain access to other rooms before finally finding their
[3:49] Speaker 1: way into mine. The reason for targeting my room remained
[3:54] Speaker 1: a mystery. Perhaps they assumed it was unoccupied. The dent
[3:58] Speaker 1: on my bedroom door added to the puzzle, appearing more
[4:01] Speaker 1: like an act of frustration rather than a genuine attempt
[4:05] Speaker 1: to break in. Despite the unsettling experience, I still reside
[4:10] Speaker 1: in the same apartment, and thankfully, nothing else has occurred.
[4:15] Speaker 1: The identity and motives of the intruder remain unknown.
