After 20 years of making music together, Angus & Julia Stone have perfected the art of being siblings, bandmates and occasionally complete strangers. The pair recall the times they each got electrocuted on stage and somehow managed to finish the show, because apparently nothing, not even being fried by a power point, stops the gig. [0:00] Speaker 1: Get ready. Yes! It's Joel Creasy. Joel Creasy!
[0:05] Speaker 2: With The Joel Creasy Show.
[0:11] Speaker 1: Welcome to The Joel Creasy Show podcast. Now, last week
[0:15] Speaker 1: I had drag queens, I had Casey Donovan, I had
[0:20] Speaker 1: a Broadway star, I probably spoke about some housewives and
[0:23] Speaker 1: other things. Today I'm doing a complete pivot and talking
[0:25] Speaker 1: to two proper, very cool musos, Angus and Completely unqualified
[0:32] Speaker 1: to be chatting to. They are so very cool. But
[0:35] Speaker 1: I jumped at the chance because I can't remember a
[0:37] Speaker 1: time in Australian music that they weren't kind of part
[0:42] Speaker 1: of the tapestry, I guess you'd say. They are off
[0:45] Speaker 1: on tour. Straight after I spoke to them, they were
[0:48] Speaker 1: off to Quebec in Canada to record or do something
[0:52] Speaker 1: cool and trendy, I assume. They've won Arias. They've toured
[0:56] Speaker 1: the globe. They have stories aplenty. And they are brother
[0:59] Speaker 1: and sister, which... That working relationship in itself I find
[1:03] Speaker 1: fascinating because I can handle my sisters in small doses.
[1:06] Speaker 1: And by that I mean 30 seconds and then I
[1:08] Speaker 1: have to pretend I'm going through a tunnel and the
[1:10] Speaker 1: phone is cutting out a signal. So please enjoy my
[1:12] Speaker 1: chat with Angus and Julia Stone. This is The Joel
[1:15] Speaker 1: Creasy Show. Angus and Julia Stone, first of all, thank
[1:18] Speaker 1: you so much for joining me in the studio. I've
[1:20] Speaker 1: got to be honest, I'm a little bit intimidated by
[1:22] Speaker 1: the both of you right now.
[1:24] Speaker 3: Why is that?
[1:24] Speaker 1: Because I think if I were to write a punchline
[1:26] Speaker 1: of who's the last artist that Joel Creasy would be
[1:30] Speaker 1: talking to, like far too cool for him, it would
[1:33] Speaker 1: be Angus and Julia Stone. Like I am like K-pop
[1:36] Speaker 1: demon hunters type trash. And you guys are proper musos.
[1:43] Speaker 1: So thank you for joining me.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
[1:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
[1:46] Speaker 1: I don't know how, like I was just telling you
[1:48] Speaker 1: off air, I'm working with my mother on stage. How
[1:51] Speaker 1: have you done this for so long? Because I already
[1:53] Speaker 1: want to murder her.
[1:57] Speaker 3: I guess.
[1:57] Speaker 2: Lots of red wine.
[1:58] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:59] Speaker 1: That's important. Well, she's trying that or she's Chardonnay.
[2:04] Speaker 4: Yeah, I suppose it's been almost 22 years now and
[2:10] Speaker 4: I think a big key to still working together is
[2:14] Speaker 4: that we sort of take breaks from it, you know,
[2:18] Speaker 4: and we also don't force it. So it's like if
[2:21] Speaker 4: we want to make a record, it really has to
[2:23] Speaker 4: happen naturally. So there was this great quote, there's a guy,
[2:27] Speaker 4: Professor Holland, he.
[2:28] Speaker 3: Said, What is it?
[2:29] Speaker 2: Change of work is the best rest. It's, um, and
[2:34] Speaker 2: I think, you know, it's like in any relationship, you
[2:37] Speaker 2: have to know when to step forward and when to
[2:39] Speaker 2: allow space and having that awareness. Um, it's a dance. It's,
[2:43] Speaker 2: Julia and I have, we've been through so much. We
[2:46] Speaker 2: know each other, you know, through all the things that
[2:49] Speaker 2: life throws at you. It's, and I think that it
[2:52] Speaker 2: comes through in our writing and, um, We're still learning,
[2:56] Speaker 2: you know, we're still figuring it out each show, each
[2:58] Speaker 2: day together. But I think we're proud of what we've created. Yeah.
[3:02] Speaker 1: Well, I was thinking before you came in, I was like,
[3:05] Speaker 1: how do you just steal your career down into one chat?
[3:08] Speaker 1: It's just, it's been so stellar. And you're once again
[3:11] Speaker 1: on the road everywhere. Adelaide, Brisbane, double Melbourne, Forum Theatre, great. Sydney,
[3:17] Speaker 1: and then my home, Perth Kings Park. So when you're
[3:20] Speaker 1: not working, what's the level of communication? Is it daily?
[3:23] Speaker 1: Is it like every second day? Is it WhatsApp?
[3:25] Speaker 2: It's a 20-hour drive. Oh, really? Well, just as a joke.
[3:32] Speaker 2: But Julia lives in Tassie. I live up north.
[3:34] Speaker 1: That's probably wise.
[3:36] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[3:36] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[3:37] Speaker 4: We're kind of like probably more texters. Like definitely don't
[3:42] Speaker 4: chat on the phone unless it's about work.
[3:44] Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
[3:45] Speaker 4: We do talk a lot about like things that need,
[3:47] Speaker 4: you know, like especially with organizing tours and stuff, we'll
[3:49] Speaker 4: have a lot of like admin-y conversations. And I guess,
[3:53] Speaker 4: you know, our way of like, talking about not work
[3:56] Speaker 4: is we just pretend to be a couple of old
[3:57] Speaker 4: farmers and we talk about the weather for the first
[4:00] Speaker 4: 10 minutes of the conversation.
[4:02] Speaker 3: How you going, mate? How's it all going?
[4:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, I put the cows out down the back paddock. Oh, yeah.
[4:06] Speaker 3: Bloody hell. I don't know if.
[4:07] Speaker 2: You saw that. So I've been doing all the fence work.
[4:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, haven't had much rain down here, to be honest.
[4:12] Speaker 2: It would be great if you're going to chip in
[4:13] Speaker 2: for that.
[4:14] Speaker 3: Yeah, but I told you I'm not going to pay
[4:15] Speaker 3: for the bloody tractor.
[4:16] Speaker 2: You bloody drunkard.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, because you wouldn't be able to go anywhere. The
[4:19] Speaker 1: second people see your name, they'll be like, oh, shit,
[4:21] Speaker 1: it's there. Like, there's no other Angus and Julia Stone.
[4:23] Speaker 1: And I've been caught out before where I've tried lying
[4:26] Speaker 1: and I've been like, oh, I'm a wig stylist this
[4:27] Speaker 1: Friday night. I was like, I'm a wig stylist. And
[4:30] Speaker 1: then someone came and asked me for a photo. And
[4:31] Speaker 1: I just said, I'm a really famous wig stylist. And
[4:33] Speaker 1: then a friend arrived and ruined it all. And we're like,
[4:36] Speaker 1: what are you doing, Joel? I'm like, I'm acting.
[4:38] Speaker 3: I'm an actor.
[4:40] Speaker 1: I'm an actor. I'm an actor. And I'm having a
[4:42] Speaker 1: wonderful time. So how much prep goes into the tour?
[4:46] Speaker 1: Is there one of you that's more like the tour, theatre,
[4:50] Speaker 1: or theatre, I'm sorry, like the performance side of things,
[4:53] Speaker 1: or is that an equal split?
[4:56] Speaker 2: I think it's, you know, we're really fortunate now to
[5:00] Speaker 2: have a really beautiful team when it comes to production
[5:04] Speaker 2: and um, just being productive with time, um, and the
[5:11] Speaker 2: allowance for before we, we, we arrive, like tomorrow we,
[5:15] Speaker 2: we fly into Quebec and, um, they've put aside a
[5:18] Speaker 2: day where we all get together and, and just touch base.
[5:21] Speaker 2: And I think that planning for us in, in the past,
[5:26] Speaker 2: we'd had to do it ourselves. And I think, um, yeah,
[5:30] Speaker 2: we've always been okay at it.
[5:32] Speaker 4: Um, but, Yeah, there's just so many moving pieces, I think,
[5:36] Speaker 4: you know, because we're on tour but we're also doing
[5:38] Speaker 4: press and so we have a great team that really
[5:41] Speaker 4: organise the time and also communicate with everybody across the
[5:44] Speaker 4: different elements because, of course, as you know, there's like
[5:47] Speaker 4: lights and.
[5:48] Speaker 1: There's... There's so much more to it than that time
[5:49] Speaker 1: on stage.
[5:50] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[5:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, so.
[5:53] Speaker 4: I guess like when it comes to like set lists
[5:55] Speaker 4: and what we want to play, you know, we kind
[5:58] Speaker 4: of figure that out a couple of months before a tour.
[6:01] Speaker 2: Five minutes before.
[6:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, five minutes before a stage.
[6:02] Speaker 1: I'm very five minutes before. I'll just dot that now.
[6:06] Speaker 1: Karaoke bar, do people expect you to get up and
[6:09] Speaker 1: sing at like every occasion?
[6:10] Speaker 4: Well.
[6:11] Speaker 2: I think it's kind of a curse. Like when I
[6:14] Speaker 2: walk into a karaoke bar, everyone's looking over it and
[6:16] Speaker 2: you're like.
[6:16] Speaker 1: Of course.
[6:17] Speaker 2: I only know my own. have you got like a
[6:20] Speaker 2: back catalog here um but yeah i think the the
[6:25] Speaker 2: shitter you are the better like.
[6:26] Speaker 1: When it comes to watching absolutely because.
[6:29] Speaker 2: I'm like oh they're having so much fun i.
[6:30] Speaker 3: Can't do that i.
[6:32] Speaker 2: Can't have fun anymore um no that i mean that's
[6:36] Speaker 2: what it is it's it's that sort of democratic space
[6:38] Speaker 2: and the communion of everyone coming together and being vulnerable
[6:42] Speaker 2: and There is a three beer minimum, obviously. Of course.
[6:45] Speaker 1: Minimum.
[6:47] Speaker 2: Minimum.
[6:47] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[6:48] Speaker 2: But, yeah, I don't know. What's your karaoke tracks that
[6:52] Speaker 2: you like running?
[6:55] Speaker 3: I like singing Alanis Morissette.
[6:57] Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I think the same.
[6:58] Speaker 3: Yeah. Like how fun it is to, like, go there.
[7:00] Speaker 3: Just get that angst out.
[7:02] Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
[7:03] Speaker 3: What do you sing when you go to karaoke? I.
[7:08] Speaker 2: I'd go for Chris Isaac, Wicked Game.
[7:11] Speaker 3: Oh, really?
[7:12] Speaker 2: You know, a bit of that.
[7:13] Speaker 1: But do you like me that a karaoke bar terrifies me?
[7:17] Speaker 1: I think the bigger the crowd, the easier.
[7:19] Speaker 2: True.
[7:20] Speaker 3: I think you're right.
[7:21] Speaker 4: Like there's an element of I think, you know, especially
[7:25] Speaker 4: also when it's your own show, you have so much
[7:27] Speaker 4: control over so many of the elements of it.
[7:29] Speaker 3: You know, you've got your sound right. You sort of
[7:31] Speaker 3: know the structure. Karaoke bars are like.
[7:33] Speaker 4: The Wild West, you know, like the mic sometimes like,
[7:36] Speaker 4: you know, doesn't smell so good.
[7:38] Speaker 1: Those really, when the microphone's really light, like weighs nothing,
[7:42] Speaker 1: you're like, this is a cheap ass shit microphone.
[7:44] Speaker 3: This is going to sound bad. And you're like, normally
[7:47] Speaker 3: I have in-ears, like I can hear myself.
[7:48] Speaker 1: It's not me.
[7:50] Speaker 3: It's the sound guy.
[7:51] Speaker 2: Where is he?
[7:52] Speaker 4: And it's just.
[7:53] Speaker 1: That's good. So, okay. So karaoke, but you say it's
[7:57] Speaker 1: shaped by travel, instinct and connection. It's your sixth album.
[8:01] Speaker 1: It feels to me like you've been around for so
[8:03] Speaker 1: long that I, Six, that's just six very successful albums.
[8:06] Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess, like, it feels like, I don't know,
[8:12] Speaker 4: what does it feel like? I think you're just in
[8:14] Speaker 4: the moment you're in, right? Like, you kind of forget
[8:16] Speaker 4: that you've not.
[8:17] Speaker 1: Do you mark them as, no, they're just.
[8:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we were talking about it the other day.
[8:25] Speaker 2: We've never really chased the dragon to be like, we're
[8:29] Speaker 2: going to, you know, we're going to create... um, you know,
[8:32] Speaker 2: 10 albums in our lifetime or whatever we have this year,
[8:35] Speaker 2: we've got to make another one. I think what's important
[8:38] Speaker 2: for us is to have something that sparks the inspiration
[8:43] Speaker 2: to want to have the conversation. Yeah. Maybe we can
[8:47] Speaker 2: do this again. Um, and that's what this record we're
[8:50] Speaker 2: in Paris and we finished a world tour called the
[8:53] Speaker 2: living room sessions and it was inviting people back into
[8:57] Speaker 2: our living room style and, Telling stories of when we
[9:00] Speaker 2: were just figuring it out at the beginning. And we
[9:04] Speaker 2: finished in Paris, this beautiful tour. We had such a
[9:06] Speaker 2: good time. We were connecting really well on that. And
[9:10] Speaker 2: we got invited out to this studio called Miravelle Studios.
[9:14] Speaker 2: I don't know if you know much about it.
[9:16] Speaker 1: I've not been invited, but I have heard of it.
[9:19] Speaker 2: You will be. Don't worry. But, yeah, Brad Pitt has been...
[9:25] Speaker 2: become the the keeper of this this such historic place
[9:28] Speaker 2: and um we went out there and it's just such
[9:33] Speaker 2: a magical place you know bands like Pink Floyd and
[9:36] Speaker 2: The Cure and I think for us it was about
[9:40] Speaker 2: being on holiday and also writing at the same time
[9:43] Speaker 2: and Making that an allowance for, you know, just, we
[9:46] Speaker 2: have the choice to find happiness in amongst all this work,
[9:50] Speaker 2: you know, and I think that's what we're trying to
[9:51] Speaker 2: figure out as we move along. And that's what this
[9:55] Speaker 2: record was.
[9:56] Speaker 1: I love that. I promise I took on board every word,
[9:59] Speaker 1: but whilst also staring at your stunning jewelry.
[10:02] Speaker 2: Every one of those things is amazing.
[10:04] Speaker 1: And I'm going to mug you on the way out.
[10:06] Speaker 2: I've been collecting these along the way.
[10:09] Speaker 1: They're so good. Did you get any of them from Paris?
[10:12] Speaker 2: No. No, that's from Seattle. Julia got me this for
[10:17] Speaker 2: my birthday recently. There's a really beautiful message in there.
[10:20] Speaker 2: And this is from a balder opal. There's this big,
[10:24] Speaker 2: I love opals. There's this big balder opal. They told
[10:27] Speaker 2: me not to cut it, but I figured it's better
[10:30] Speaker 2: than sitting in a drawer, you know, like to admire it.
[10:35] Speaker 2: But yeah, we cut that one and made, but yeah,
[10:38] Speaker 2: I love it. It tells a bit of a story.
[10:40] Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
[10:41] Speaker 1: I was like, oh, they're amazing. The Joel Creasy Show.
[10:47] Speaker 1: Have you had those gigs where you're on stage? Because,
[10:49] Speaker 1: I mean, like, I go on stage on my own,
[10:51] Speaker 1: so I can kind of only talk to myself, where
[10:54] Speaker 1: you're like, I wonder what's happening right now. Like, you
[10:56] Speaker 1: know those gigs? Because I feel like I do remember
[11:00] Speaker 1: the great gigs. But you also remember the really weird ones.
[11:04] Speaker 1: Have you had those ones?
[11:05] Speaker 4: I'm so curious about your weird gig because it'll help
[11:08] Speaker 4: us understand.
[11:09] Speaker 1: Okay. I have fallen off stage straight into the lap
[11:12] Speaker 1: of an 80-year-old woman in Bunbury before. And the stage
[11:16] Speaker 1: manager came running out and said, don't move. So I
[11:18] Speaker 1: lay in her lap for about 20 minutes, got to
[11:21] Speaker 1: know her real well.
[11:22] Speaker 3: Don't move.
[11:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, because in case there was like spinal damage to me.
[11:25] Speaker 1: I'm like, what about her? Because the stage manager had
[11:28] Speaker 1: over fogged the stage.
[11:29] Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
[11:30] Speaker 1: Yeah. Have you had a gig like that? No, we
[11:32] Speaker 1: haven't fallen off the stage.
[11:34] Speaker 3: I'm trying to think. We have? We have. Oh, I
[11:39] Speaker 3: got electrocuted.
[11:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, I was going to say there's electrocution stories that
[11:43] Speaker 4: happen quite a lot.
[11:44] Speaker 2: Julie's got one and I got one too.
[11:45] Speaker 4: I had one where I got stuck on the mic
[11:48] Speaker 4: for a second from the electricity and I pulled my
[11:51] Speaker 4: head off.
[11:51] Speaker 1: What?
[11:52] Speaker 3: I was like, oh, and I went.
[11:54] Speaker 4: Like that and smashed my nose onto the microphone, split
[11:57] Speaker 4: my nose and had then blood just.
[11:59] Speaker 2: So you recoiled and then.
[12:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, I went like, oh, and then in the shock
[12:03] Speaker 3: cracked it on the microphone.
[12:04] Speaker 1: And you're mid-geek?
[12:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, we're only like three songs into it. Two-hour show.
[12:09] Speaker 1: What did you do? Did you finish the show?
[12:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, of course. Of course.
[12:13] Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, see, I got back up on
[12:16] Speaker 1: stage after falling off. They didn't like me, but I
[12:18] Speaker 1: got back up. So you were electrocuted as well.
[12:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, this was when we were sort of starting up.
[12:24] Speaker 2: We were in Edinburgh at a little show. We bought
[12:27] Speaker 2: an old Tarago and we'd sort of do open mic
[12:30] Speaker 2: nights and we were in this sort of like down
[12:32] Speaker 2: in this old club cellar thing.
[12:35] Speaker 3: Cellar basement.
[12:36] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[12:38] Speaker 1: All the places we've been.
[12:39] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[12:40] Speaker 2: We used to dress the stage ourselves, so we'd put
[12:43] Speaker 2: up fairy lights and put books around and lamps.
[12:45] Speaker 3: I love that.
[12:46] Speaker 2: Anyways, I was plugging in an old lamp, and it
[12:50] Speaker 2: didn't have the bit of plastic on the back of
[12:52] Speaker 2: the terminal, so I pushed it into the wall, and
[12:57] Speaker 2: I was wearing these boots at the time, not these ones,
[13:00] Speaker 2: but I remember it locked me in. And it fully,
[13:05] Speaker 2: like I was locked on the PowerPoint with the, What?
[13:09] Speaker 2: The terminal. And I was just, like, frying.
[13:12] Speaker 1: Oh, it sounds like a cartoon.
[13:14] Speaker 2: I could hear my boots going click, click, click. And
[13:16] Speaker 2: everyone's just, like, sound checking. It's like, so you can't
[13:19] Speaker 2: say anything.
[13:20] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[13:20] Speaker 2: But it let me go. And I was fully fried
[13:23] Speaker 2: after that ever since.
[13:24] Speaker 1: Wow.
[13:25] Speaker 2: Never recovered.
[13:26] Speaker 3: Never been the same.
[13:28] Speaker 1: Thank goodness you're still with us. Okay, yeah. You have
[13:32] Speaker 1: the stories. And did you say before– When you said
[13:36] Speaker 1: you're off to Quebec tomorrow, do you mean Quebec, Canada?
[13:39] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[13:39] Speaker 1: I love that.
[13:40] Speaker 3: I love that.
[13:41] Speaker 1: I'm a Celine Dion. I've only been to Canada like
[13:44] Speaker 1: eight times, only ever to Quebec, to Montreal for the
[13:47] Speaker 1: Comedy Festival.
[13:47] Speaker 3: Oh, it's so good. Montreal's beautiful.
[13:49] Speaker 1: But I have no idea what Canada's like, but I'm like,
[13:51] Speaker 1: I know Montreal.
[13:52] Speaker 2: That's a good place to start.
[13:54] Speaker 1: Such a good, yeah. Yeah. It's a very creative town.
[14:00] Speaker 1: So you're off there tomorrow.
[14:01] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[14:02] Speaker 1: And then you've got a world tour, but does it
[14:04] Speaker 1: start with the Australian dates?
[14:06] Speaker 3: Yes, it does.
[14:07] Speaker 1: How do you find that? Do you find that more
[14:08] Speaker 1: intimidating starting at home or whatever, a gig's a gig?
[14:12] Speaker 3: Oh, that is a good question. I would probably say.
[14:17] Speaker 4: We've done it both, like both versions where we've played
[14:20] Speaker 4: in Australia and then gone out.
[14:22] Speaker 2: I like finishing in Australia because you sort of.
[14:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[14:27] Speaker 4: You're, you know.
[14:28] Speaker 3: You're already home.
[14:28] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[14:29] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[14:31] Speaker 2: Less flights.
[14:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, less flights.
[14:34] Speaker 2: You get to sort of warm up. You grace the
[14:36] Speaker 2: wheels and by the time you get home, the end
[14:39] Speaker 2: of the tour, you're quite slick at that point.
[14:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like, check this out.
[14:43] Speaker 2: Check this out.
[14:43] Speaker 3: I've been doing this forever.
[14:46] Speaker 2: No, it is like that. You're quite warm to it
[14:48] Speaker 2: and you've got your bits down, your stories. It takes
[14:52] Speaker 2: time because when you come off tour and then you
[14:56] Speaker 2: start back up, You've still got all the sort of
[14:59] Speaker 2: things that you've learnt, but, yeah, it takes.
[15:01] Speaker 1: A little bit of warming.
[15:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
[15:04] Speaker 1: I love that. I love that I'm asking as if
[15:06] Speaker 1: I'm off on a world tour. I'm not. However, you are.
[15:09] Speaker 1: You're off to Quebec tomorrow, which is so camp and fabulous,
[15:13] Speaker 1: and then you're touring all around Australia, Adelaide Entertainment Centre,
[15:16] Speaker 1: Fortitude Valley Music Hall Forum, Sydney Opera House, Four Court.
[15:20] Speaker 1: That must be epic to play.
[15:21] Speaker 3: It's so fun.
[15:22] Speaker 4: It is, yeah.
[15:22] Speaker 1: So beautiful.
[15:23] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[15:24] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really like.
[15:25] Speaker 4: When our booking agent came in with the forecourt, we
[15:29] Speaker 4: were like, all right, this will be like, this will
[15:31] Speaker 4: be a great tour. Because it just is that like,
[15:34] Speaker 4: for us to be like where we grew up and
[15:37] Speaker 4: in a place like that, we used to, you know,
[15:39] Speaker 4: spend a lot of time, you know, coming into the
[15:41] Speaker 4: city and partying and to be down there and like
[15:44] Speaker 4: looking at the sunset and the heart.
[15:45] Speaker 3: It's just, yeah.
[15:46] Speaker 4: I know.
[15:47] Speaker 1: And I go to Sydney all the time and every
[15:49] Speaker 1: time you go, oh, that's right, it's really pretty.
[15:50] Speaker 3: Yeah. I forget.
[15:51] Speaker 1: And you're like, what's on Sydney? And then finishing Kings
[15:55] Speaker 1: Park and Botanic Gardens, which is also very stunning.
[15:58] Speaker 3: Also very beautiful.
[15:59] Speaker 1: And you've got Karaoke Bar out now. I just can't
[16:01] Speaker 1: remember a time where you guys weren't part of the
[16:03] Speaker 1: Australian music tapestry. So it's very cool to have you in.
[16:06] Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining me. And yeah, congratulations.
[16:10] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[16:11] Speaker 1: Say hello to, say bonjour to Quebec for me. We will.
[16:15] Speaker 1: That's a routine on my behalf.
[16:17] Speaker 4: I really wanted, like, I mean, sorry, I cut in
[16:20] Speaker 4: just before the end, but I wanted to just, like,
[16:22] Speaker 4: ask you as well about this show you do with
[16:24] Speaker 4: your mum because I've been.
[16:25] Speaker 3: Thinking about it since you said it. Like, what's the
[16:28] Speaker 3: sort of vibe? What's the story of the show?
[16:31] Speaker 1: Well, my mum was a West End actress and so
[16:34] Speaker 1: was my dad. They met on the set of Star Wars,
[16:37] Speaker 1: The Empire Strikes Back.
[16:38] Speaker 3: No way. Yeah.
[16:40] Speaker 1: And then my dad was the solo man in the
[16:43] Speaker 1: 80s commercials.
[16:44] Speaker 3: No way.
[16:45] Speaker 1: And they gave birth to this. And then my mum
[16:47] Speaker 1: kind of gave up her stage career to raise me
[16:51] Speaker 1: and my sisters. I forget their names. And I've taken
[16:55] Speaker 1: her on the road with me and it's fun and exhausting.
[16:59] Speaker 1: She's saved in my phone at the moment as Lord Voldemort.
[17:03] Speaker 2: Oh.
[17:03] Speaker 1: So that's November.
[17:04] Speaker 3: So she is a performer though.
[17:07] Speaker 1: Quite a while ago actually. Yeah, we sing and dance
[17:10] Speaker 1: at the end.
[17:10] Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
[17:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, drink too much.
[17:13] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[17:14] Speaker 4: But you have like, it's like, do you talk about
[17:16] Speaker 4: growing up with her as a mom and stuff?
[17:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, and we have images of her doing stage from,
[17:21] Speaker 1: you know, when she was younger. And, yeah, we talk
[17:24] Speaker 1: about our relationship because I always say to her, what
[17:28] Speaker 1: does the devil pay you? because nobody advocates to him harder.
[17:31] Speaker 1: Like I could get shot in the face and she'd
[17:33] Speaker 1: be like, well, what did you say? But it's good fun.
[17:36] Speaker 2: So, yeah. So good.
[17:38] Speaker 1: So we might see you, you know.
[17:40] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
[17:41] Speaker 1: We're not quite playing the Opera House Forecourt. We're playing
[17:44] Speaker 1: The Factory, but, you know.
[17:45] Speaker 3: When's that?
[17:45] Speaker 1: That's November.
[17:46] Speaker 3: Oh, we'll be back.
[17:47] Speaker 1: Yes, come along.
[17:48] Speaker 3: That's so good, yeah. Are you playing Tassie at all?
[17:52] Speaker 1: And that's the one– do you have a city that
[17:54] Speaker 1: you've gone to a few times and you're like, well,
[17:55] Speaker 1: we haven't sold here? You probably haven't. But Tassie's the
[17:58] Speaker 1: one I always get asked to do and then I
[17:59] Speaker 1: go there and don't sell a ticket.
[18:01] Speaker 2: It's a slow.
[18:02] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:03] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's annoying because it's like it'd be– Is Tassie
[18:05] Speaker 4: a walk-up? No, I think it's just like– I don't know.
[18:09] Speaker 4: I suppose it's quite specific about what– I don't know.
[18:11] Speaker 4: Like I don't get it because it's like we don't
[18:13] Speaker 4: play Tassie very often either.
[18:15] Speaker 1: I want to because it's so beautiful.
[18:16] Speaker 3: It's so beautiful.
[18:17] Speaker 2: It's expensive to get to.
[18:18] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:19] Speaker 1: Oh, well– Come on, Tassie.
[18:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to talk to some people.
[18:23] Speaker 1: Take us.
[18:23] Speaker 2: Take me.
[18:25] Speaker 4: You should do like a gig at Mona. That would
[18:28] Speaker 4: be so good out on the lawn at Mona. Yeah.
[18:30] Speaker 4: Because that would be like, you know, you get to
[18:32] Speaker 4: see the gallery, you know.
[18:34] Speaker 1: I'd have to do that one solo. My mum would
[18:35] Speaker 1: be like, what is this? A poo room? She would
[18:38] Speaker 1: not be in time. She would not get it.
[18:41] Speaker 3: They're so good.
[18:42] Speaker 1: She's a nightmare.
[18:43] Speaker 3: Just don't take it into the gallery.
[18:45] Speaker 1: What is this, a poo? Angus and Julia Stone, congratulations,
[18:50] Speaker 1: and thank you so much for coming in. You are
[18:53] Speaker 1: so cool. You're both so cool.
[18:54] Speaker 2: So are you. Thank you for having us, bro.
[18:57] Speaker 1: Oh, stop that. I wasn't fishing like what I caught.
[19:02] Speaker 4: The Joel Creasy Show is done, but Joel's got.
